- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Epstein Chronicles. Over the past twenty four hours or so,
- 0:08there have been reports on TikTok that when you punch
- 0:11Epstein's name into the search function, you're instead met with
- 0:15an error message, and according to users on TikTok, other
- 0:18politically sensitive topics were also being censored. Now, according to CNBC,
- 0:25they couldn't independently verify the broader claims of political censorship,
- 0:30but they were able to confirm that there was an
- 0:33error when searching for Epstein's name. Now, I don't use TikTok,
- 0:37so I have no idea about the ecosystem over there
- 0:40or what goes on, because I really have no desire
- 0:43to watch thirty second clips. And that's because the topic
- 0:46we're talking about is a topic that needs to be
- 0:49long form, right. I don't think that this is a
- 0:52topic that you're going to figure out in thirty second clips.
- 0:55There's just way too much nuance and way too much
- 0:58going on for clips to get the job done. But
- 1:01obviously there's a lot of people that are into it,
- 1:03and according to them, there has been some censorship over
- 1:07at TikTok. Now, of course, TikTok says that it has
- 1:11something to do with their data centers and it has
- 1:15nothing to do with censorship. So let's dive into this
- 1:19article from CNBC and let's see what the hell's going
- 1:22on here headline TikTok blames data center outages for US
- 1:27app problems, deny censorship claim. The author of this article
- 1:33is Dylan Butts. TikTok's US app, now under majority American ownership,
- 1:39set a recent wave of glitches and content disruption was
- 1:43due to a power outage at one of its data centers,
- 1:46pushing back against claims that the platform was censoring political speech,
- 1:52which is ironic considering that's the whole reason that TikTok
- 1:55had to be under a majority of American control in
- 1:58the first place. Right again, the oh, the misinformation, and
- 2:02what they really meant by that was that it wasn't
- 2:05the right flavor, Right, it wasn't the right flavor of misinformation.
- 2:09If it was something that was beneficial to the powers
- 2:11that be, that shit would be getting amplified by people
- 2:14like Elon Musk. Users have reported issues with their accounts
- 2:20since the video sharing app began operating under a newly
- 2:24formed US led venture following months of political pressure over
- 2:28it's Chinese ownership. And I know that I'm going to
- 2:30sound my age here, but I just don't understand TikTok.
- 2:33I don't understand all the trends that come out of it.
- 2:36I don't understand, you know, the people that are putting
- 2:38their whole life out there on the Internet for other
- 2:40people to look at. I just don't get it. And obviously,
- 2:44like I just said, that has to do with when
- 2:46I was born. I'm a product of gen X. I
- 2:50grew up in the eighties and the nineties, and all
- 2:53that shit seems bizarre to me. Put that phone down
- 2:55for a little while, get outside and enjoy your life.
- 2:59And the truth is, the vast majority of people outside
- 3:02of the Internet are good people. You might have different opinions,
- 3:06you might feel differently about politics or whatever, but for
- 3:09the most part, people aren't at each other's throats. That's
- 3:13something that's going on online. But for some people, that's
- 3:17the only perspective they have because they never get outside
- 3:20of their bubble. Against the backdrop of tense political environment
- 3:26in the US, a growing number of viral complaints about
- 3:30TikTok have accused the platform of censoring certain political positions
- 3:35and even the word Epstein within direct messaging. CNBC confirmed
- 3:39the messages containing the word Epstein triggered a error message,
- 3:43but was unable to independently verify broader claims of political censorship.
- 3:48And I don't care what anybody says or tells you.
- 3:50The truth is the most damaging thing to the administration,
- 3:54to the powers that be in general, is the Epstein story.
- 3:59You notice how they've all all pivoted away. It's all
- 4:01about other things, right, But it really comes back to this.
- 4:07If the federal government's lying to you about Epstein, do
- 4:10you really think they're telling you the truth about what's
- 4:12going on with anything else? And if we can't have
- 4:14accountability here, I promise you there is not going to
- 4:17be accountability anywhere else. Asked about the issue, a spokesperson
- 4:23for the TikTok joint venture told CNBC that the platform
- 4:27does not prohibit sharing the name Epstein in messages, and
- 4:30that it's investigating why some users are experiencing the problem.
- 4:34Among others, the sensitivity surrounding the messaging issues related to
- 4:40Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier, pedophile and convicted sex offender.
- 4:44The Department of Justice has since December been releasing caches
- 4:48of documents tied to investigations of Epstein, but has yet
- 4:53to release the entirety of the so called Epstein files.
- 4:56What does that even mean? The so called Epstein files.
- 4:59Do you do not believe they exist? Do you not
- 5:01believe they're a thing? What does that mean? The so
- 5:03called Epstein files. They think they're slick with these little
- 5:06subliminal messages like this so called Epstein Files nonsense, But
- 5:11the truth is they just expose themselves as people who
- 5:13really have no idea what they're talking about in the
- 5:16first place. The recent complaints about TikTok have been amplified
- 5:20by California Governor Gavin Newsom, whose press office said in
- 5:24a Tuesday post on x that our office has received
- 5:28reports and independently confirmed instances of suppressed content critical of
- 5:33President Trump. Well I need to see some proof. I'm
- 5:38not really a big fan of people like Gavin Newsom
- 5:41because he's not somebody that really gives a shit, just
- 5:44another camera hound who wants to advance his political career.
- 5:48And look, I hate to be so cynical, but these
- 5:50people have proven me right time and time again. Every
- 5:54time they open their mouth, every time there's a disaster,
- 5:57every time there's a moment when they should be trying
- 5:59to bring the country together. What are they doing and
- 6:02what you think that's good for the country or for them.
- 6:07Newsom's office didn't provide evidence to support the claims, though
- 6:10many users have posted videos allegedly showing the issue. In
- 6:15a viral X post, freelance journalist David Levitt shared a
- 6:18screenshot of videos on his profile that had been flagged
- 6:21as ineligible for recommendation and claim TikTok had begun censoring
- 6:26anti Trump and anti ICE content. Does that really sound
- 6:31like a gigantic leap to anybody? I mean, these people
- 6:35are out here just shooting people in the street on camera.
- 6:38Do you think they care about any of this shit?
- 6:40You think they care about censoring your freedom of speech
- 6:43or what you see on the internet. Hell no, they don't.
- 6:47They don't care about the constitution, straight up. And I'm
- 6:50not going to sit here and pretend anything otherwise. ICE
- 6:55refers to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, which
- 6:58is currently engaged in politically charged operation in the city
- 7:02of Minneapolis. The fatal shooting of two US citizens during
- 7:05federal enforcement actions by ice have sparked outrage and political debate. Well, yeah,
- 7:11usually when you know, you see somebody get executed on TV,
- 7:15that's a moment when debate begins, right, And I don't
- 7:20think there's any debate about what happened to mister, Pretty
- 7:23zero debated at all in my opinion. Now, look, you
- 7:26can talk about scuffling with the police. Not a good
- 7:29idea ever, and you shouldn't do it. But is that
- 7:33a death sentence? Five guys on top of you. You've
- 7:36already been disarmed. I saw the video, and then you
- 7:40get shot and killed. And we're in a country now
- 7:43where people celebrate that. Sorry, bro, I'm not on that train.
- 7:46I never will be. And this whole US versus them
- 7:49mindset is really setting the whole ass country back. Just
- 7:55hours before Newsom issued his threat, the new TikTok Joint
- 7:58Venture posted an update on its X account saying the
- 8:01company was continuing to resolve it's major infrastructure issue. It's
- 8:06always something else, right, It's never oh shit, we got caught.
- 8:10It's always a glitch. Oh I was hacked. Somebody else
- 8:14did it. Never taken self responsibility, and that's the way
- 8:18they're able to keep the confusion going, right, Well, you
- 8:20think you're going to ever get a reason why this happened,
- 8:23Of course you're not. While the network has been recovered,
- 8:26the outage caused a cascading systems failure that we've been
- 8:29working to resolve with our data center partner, it said,
- 8:33adding that users may notice multiple bugs, slower load times,
- 8:36and timed out requests when posting new content. Like I said,
- 8:40I can't confirm it one way or the other. I
- 8:42don't use TikTok, so I have no idea. But as
- 8:46far as censorship goes, that's Internet wide. And all you
- 8:50have to do is take a look at what happens
- 8:52in the aftermath of somebody committing a Hanus crime. Look
- 8:55how quickly they scrub their Internet profile. Now why should
- 8:59they do that and why do they do that? Well,
- 9:01it's to control the narrative, right. They don't want you
- 9:04to know the real story. They don't want you to
- 9:06know the truth, so they control the narrative. And what
- 9:10better way to control the narrative than to not let
- 9:12the information out in the first place. Separately, users reported
- 9:16this week that direct messages containing the name Epstein failed
- 9:20to send through TikTok's direct messaging feature, CNBC was able
- 9:24to recreate this message when sending a message containing the
- 9:28name Epstein. That message read this message may be in
- 9:32violation of our community guidelines and has not been sent
- 9:35to protect our community. Users were given the option to
- 9:39report potential mistakes. Oh yeah, I'm sure it is an error.
- 9:44Last thing they want is Epstein being blasted everywhere. And
- 9:47if you're really somebody that's into conspiracies, take a look
- 9:50at the new owners of TikTok, and if you dive
- 9:53down that rabbit hole, there are many warrens to explore.
- 9:56TikTok had faced a potential shutdown in the US last
- 9:59year after the Supreme Court upheld a law requiring it
- 10:03to exit the market unless its China based parent company
- 10:06by Dance, divested the business among other national security related
- 10:10to requirements. Trump later issued a series of executive orders
- 10:15allowing the platform to remain online while negotiations over a
- 10:18divestment continued. Last Thursday, TikTok announced it informed a joint
- 10:24venture to keep the app operating in the US under
- 10:27new leadership and under the deal, by Dance retains a
- 10:31nineteen point nine percent ownership stake, while US and global
- 10:35investors hold eighty point one percent. Key investors include Oracle,
- 10:40silver Lake, and MGX, each with a fifteen percent stake.
- 10:45Oracle's co founder, Larry Ellison, a prominent Trump supporter, was
- 10:49previously floated by the US President as a potential TikTok
- 10:53buyer as far back as January of last year. The
- 10:56Trump administration and Trump back crypto firm I've previously been
- 11:00involved in deals with MGX, an Amarati state owned investment
- 11:04firm focused on artificial intelligence technologies. All right, So, any
- 11:10of you guys out there that use TikTok, have you
- 11:12ran into this issue? If so, shoot me some emails
- 11:15and let me know as far as this one goes, well,
- 11:18that's going to do it. All of the information that
- 11:21goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
