- 0:00Speaker 1: Tune in Saturday evening. The Huskies will play on Tobacco
- 0:03Speaker 1: Road as they visit the Duke Blue Devils at Wallace
- 0:06Speaker 1: Wade Stadium in Durham. Our coverage begins at four point
- 0:09Speaker 1: thirty with a hard Uto Group countdown to kick off.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Bob Joyce on the scene Live, got to be a
- 0:13Speaker 1: big game if Bob's on the road, followed by the
- 0:17Speaker 1: game broadcast at six. Here along the Yukon Sports Network,
- 0:20Speaker 1: the Varsity Network app, and the Varsity Network dot Com.
- 0:22Speaker 1: We're back with coach More and Jim. We're talking about
- 0:26Speaker 1: Joe Finiano. But the offense, wow, I mean scoring at
- 0:30Speaker 1: will early on in that game, you really put Merrimack
- 0:36Speaker 1: on their heels. Every time you touch the ball, you
- 0:39Speaker 1: moved it quickly, and I mean quickly. There were a
- 0:42Speaker 1: number of drives. Three touchdowns came in less than a
- 0:45Speaker 1: minute and three others I believe less than two minutes.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So it was quick strike offense.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Well, you know, big plays, those are fun, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 2: they make it a little bit easier for you. We've
- 0:58Speaker 2: got some guys that can make some big plays. You
- 1:00Speaker 2: get them the ball out in space and they can
- 1:03Speaker 2: do some things with it.
- 1:04Speaker 3: And we saw that on Saturday.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Now we've got to build on that, and you know,
- 1:09Speaker 2: I feel confident these guys are going to keep working hard.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I mean, we're playing a great defense this week. I
- 1:14Speaker 2: mean one of the you know, it's only been two games,
- 1:17Speaker 2: but after two games, Duke is fifteenth in the country
- 1:19Speaker 2: and total defense, they're only giving up eleven and a
- 1:22Speaker 2: half points a game. You know, they're twenty eighth and
- 1:25Speaker 2: rush defense twenty eighth, and pass defense tenth and third
- 1:28Speaker 2: down defense twentieth in red zone defense. So you know
- 1:31Speaker 2: you're talking about a defense this week. It's going to
- 1:33Speaker 2: pose a lot of problems. You know, they're going to
- 1:36Speaker 2: be very challenging, and we'll see how we do. You know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: hopefully we can continue to break off some big plays.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And big plays are a function of everybody doing their
- 1:44Speaker 2: job and doing it well and doing it through the whistle.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You think about Cam's run down the sideline out the
- 1:50Speaker 2: little catch in the flat. If you watch Skyler Bell,
- 1:52Speaker 2: he blocked the heck out of his guy. I mean
- 1:55Speaker 2: he got contact on his guy twice in really significant
- 1:58Speaker 2: moments to help Cam get in the end zone. So
- 2:00Speaker 2: that's what you have to have for a big play.
- 2:02Speaker 2: To happen. Is everybody just committing to doing their job
- 2:05Speaker 2: at a high level as long as it takes playing
- 2:08Speaker 2: through the echo of the whistle.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And you got to have a number of players and
- 2:13Speaker 1: it looks like you do on the offensive side, who
- 2:16Speaker 1: can make break you know, breakaway type plays. I mean
- 2:20Speaker 1: even a TJ. Sheffield to wide out who came to
- 2:22Speaker 1: the university this year in his punk return game seven
- 2:27Speaker 1: times for seventy six yards. I think you know in
- 2:30Speaker 1: the game of football, and you can disagree with me
- 2:32Speaker 1: if you want, it's how much pressure can you put
- 2:35Speaker 1: on the other team in all your phases? Can you
- 2:38Speaker 1: pressure them on defense? Can you put the heat on
- 2:41Speaker 1: them when you have the ball? Can you return something?
- 2:44Speaker 1: Can you get down and make a turnover? All that
- 2:46Speaker 1: stuff adds up.
- 2:48Speaker 2: That's the key is putting pressure on your opponent constantly,
- 2:52Speaker 2: you know, every snap, making them feel pressure. And that
- 2:55Speaker 2: doesn't mean you're blitzing all the time or throwing deep
- 2:58Speaker 2: all the time, but it's the tempo at which you
- 2:59Speaker 2: snap the ball on offense and get back to the
- 3:01Speaker 2: line of scrimmage and go again. It's the pressure you
- 3:04Speaker 2: put on them by threatening them down the field with
- 3:07Speaker 2: deep routes. It's the pressure they feel on offense when
- 3:12Speaker 2: you're coming off the line with violence. On defense, it's
- 3:16Speaker 2: you know, tight coverage. It's the pressure that they feel
- 3:19Speaker 2: on kickoff when you know if the ball is being returned.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You know, they only got out to the eighteen point
- 3:25Speaker 2: four yard line average on their returns, which is really excellent.
- 3:27Speaker 2: You want to feel that pressure. Boy, you know, they're
- 3:30Speaker 2: all over the place. This field on defense got really
- 3:34Speaker 2: really big, and on offense, I'm talking about the opponent's
- 3:36Speaker 2: offense got really really small, you know. And same time,
- 3:41Speaker 2: you got to be able to react to pressure. And
- 3:43Speaker 2: that's one thing that we practice constantly is putting our
- 3:45Speaker 2: guys in really really, really really high pressure situations so
- 3:49Speaker 2: they know how to react. And they've done a nice
- 3:50Speaker 2: job of that.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to be able to handle it. And
- 3:53Speaker 1: as you said, quoting those numbers, Dukes a top thirty
- 3:57Speaker 1: defense in the country already in two weeks. Andy Diaz
- 4:00Speaker 1: is renowned as a defensive guy like yourself. So I
- 4:05Speaker 1: want to talk specifically about some of these skill guys.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I mean, Mel Brown to me fourteen carries the other day,
- 4:11Speaker 1: eighty seven yards. He just looks like a guy that
- 4:14Speaker 1: might just break something every time he touches the ball.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got birth, he's sudden, he's got really good
- 4:21Speaker 2: change of direction. Need to help him learn to trust
- 4:26Speaker 2: where the hole is going to be a little bit.
- 4:28Speaker 2: This is a little bit different scheme that he's been in,
- 4:30Speaker 2: this outside zone stuff, and you've got to be able
- 4:32Speaker 2: to run through the smoke at times and just trust
- 4:34Speaker 2: that the hole is going to open up. He's getting
- 4:37Speaker 2: much better at that. But I know this, when he's
- 4:39Speaker 2: got the ball in his hands, I always feel like
- 4:41Speaker 2: something good can happen. And he's a tough kid. He's
- 4:46Speaker 2: a team guy. Been a really great addition to this
- 4:49Speaker 2: to this team.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he ran the ball like except for eighty seven
- 4:52Speaker 1: to Row Robinson ninety six yards. You had Victor rose
- 4:57Speaker 1: for three carries and he got a ball in the
- 4:59Speaker 1: end zone for it. Victor unable to play this week,
- 5:02Speaker 1: I understand, as you were talking about on your press
- 5:04Speaker 1: conference Tuesday.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Victor. Victor broke his finger and practiced last week.
- 5:10Speaker 2: His pinky. It's been determined he needs this needs surgery
- 5:16Speaker 2: on it. It's a pretty pretty significant little break and
- 5:19Speaker 2: I know it sounds silly and it's pinky, but it's significant.
- 5:22Speaker 2: He uh, they wanted to do the surgery on Friday.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Vick was adamant that he planned the game. They were
- 5:28Speaker 2: able to put a protective protection over it, they were
- 5:33Speaker 2: able to harness it to his ring finger, put a
- 5:36Speaker 2: glove on it, and he went out and played and you'd.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Never known that he had a broken finger.
- 5:40Speaker 2: But it is something that that absolutely needs surgical repair.
- 5:44Speaker 2: So he's gonna have that done tomorrow. Should only miss
- 5:47Speaker 2: one game. This should be the only game he misses that.
- 5:49Speaker 2: They'll be able to pad that thing up, put a screw,
- 5:51Speaker 2: put a plate, put some wires, whatever they have to do.
- 5:54Speaker 3: It's his pinky.
- 5:55Speaker 2: They'll put the uh, you know, the molding over it
- 5:57Speaker 2: to help him and he'll he'll be back playing.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I believe you know the FAU game.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good to have depth, that's for sure. You
- 6:04Speaker 1: talked about it when the season began a little bit
- 6:07Speaker 1: later on, Bob Joyce to be talking to a couple
- 6:09Speaker 1: of the players, Cam Chadwick and Alex Huntig, and I
- 6:12Speaker 1: want to talk to you coach about the tight ends
- 6:15Speaker 1: because they got involved. We're going to do that in
- 6:17Speaker 1: just a moment. Quick time out We're on the Yukon
