- 0:23chickens. Hey good morning everybody from
- 0:30the Porch of the very windy, very cold and very rainy farm
- 0:35this morning chickens are not even outside at this point
- 0:39because it is so rainy and cold, and they are all tucked away.
- 0:44So, we are doing it from the porch today and I have an
- 0:49interesting subject to talk about my son, so it's fun to
- 0:55watch somebody else, learn something about themselves and
- 0:59my son has recently had Experience where he is
- 1:02home-schooled and he had to finish a certain number of
- 1:08things before he was able to move on and be done with summer
- 1:11for having to having his summer, you know, start off.
- 1:14And I told him that unless he finished his pre-algebra
- 1:17program, he couldn't stop. He had to finish it before and
- 1:22now he realizes his friends are getting out of school like this
- 1:25is it his friends are out. Some of them are already out so
- 1:28he's very much Gaston. I want to be done like well
- 1:33buddy, you managed your time because this is part of the
- 1:36wonderful thing of homeschooling is we really get to see how he
- 1:39can manage himself. And we can see where he lacks
- 1:42and we can see where he puts effort in and does not put
- 1:44effort in a very different way. So we're having a conversation
- 1:49and I said, well, you didn't manage your time.
- 1:51Well, you made choices and you said you were going to finish
- 1:54your entire module on world geography because he loves
- 1:59geography and can identify I pretty much every single
- 2:02country, it's amazing how he does it, but he doesn't love
- 2:06math. And there are many of us who
- 2:08don't present company included but had to still finish it.
- 2:13So he put it off and put it off and put it off and I said, well,
- 2:16it's fine. You don't have to do it but
- 2:18can't be done. So this week came up and he said
- 2:22to me, I'm never going to get out of school.
- 2:24I said, well, it depends on how you look at it.
- 2:27I said, you listen to me, talk to my clients sometimes You know
- 2:31what I say to them? What do you think?
- 2:32I would say to them and he said that you would tell them that
- 2:37they have to put the blinders on and focus and I said exactly.
- 2:41So you're going to put the blinders on and focus.
- 2:43Are you going to shut off? All the the noise are you going
- 2:47to just do it? Are you going to make yourself
- 2:49uncomfortable in order to get comfortable?
- 2:53And he stopped and paused? And he said, what does that
- 2:54mean? And I said, will you take the
- 2:56short-term discomfort for the long-term gain?
- 3:01And he paused and he said there are just so many questions in
- 3:03there. Mom, I don't think I can do this
- 3:05in this. I said, listen, you're giving me
- 3:08all the excuses as to why you can't do something.
- 3:11Why are you arguing for your limitations instead of your
- 3:14greatness. So he paused and he's like so
- 3:18you're saying I should go in there and I should just do it
- 3:22power through it. I said that's exactly what I'm
- 3:24saying. So fine I'll try so Monday came
- 3:29and he said Well, I've done everything else except this
- 3:34meaning the pre-algebra. So I've got hundreds of
- 3:37questions and I'm going to just start off and see how far I can
- 3:42go. I said, okay.
- 3:44And we were to limit our distractions.
- 3:45We're going to limit you getting up and we're going to see, I
- 3:49have to get up, Mom, I have to get up.
- 3:50I, you know, I can't sit still, I understand, but let's just
- 3:53try. Well, let me say this, he got
- 3:57very focused on the first day he did, And a half hours, straight
- 4:02of a pre-algebra, not ideal. I understand that.
- 4:06However he did it and he shocked himself and he that night when I
- 4:11finished coaching he said to me, you're not going to believe this
- 4:15and I said, what he was, I was able to do four and a half hours
- 4:17and I didn't even like I didn't even know I could do that.
- 4:20And I said, are you shocked? And he's like yeah I said okay
- 4:23what's up for tomorrow and he goes well I want you to wake me
- 4:25up when you get up. I'm like, you're not waking up
- 4:27at 5 or 4:30 whatever time it was.
- 4:29I was going to get up that Day and he's like, no we hit me up
- 4:32at 6:00. I was like, okay, so I got him
- 4:34up at six. He started by 6:45 and we didn't
- 4:40see him. Mark keeps asking me do you see
- 4:43him? Has he been up?
- 4:44No, he's just focused we go in, he's focused, he's focused now,
- 4:49this is unbelievable for a child who has been told many times.
- 4:53He has trouble focusing and he's in tune, like he's seeing a
- 4:57result. So his his pull is He's getting
- 5:01the result which means he's clicking off on what he's able
- 5:04to accomplish fast forward yesterday, I come home from
- 5:09getting my haircut and he runs out in the driveway about 2:00
- 5:14in the afternoon, throws his arms around me and he says, I
- 5:17did it. I finished, I said you finished
- 5:20everything. He said, yes, I come inside.
- 5:23I'm like, let me check your grade.
- 5:25I go to the portal where I have to log in to see and he got a B,
- 5:29he got an 80. T, which is astounding because
- 5:32he hates it, which is more astounding that he pushed
- 5:35himself, he did it. And I said, what did you learn
- 5:38from all of this? And he said, I learned that I
- 5:41can sit still a lot longer than I thought I could and I said,
- 5:45okay. And he said I sucked it up and I
- 5:48just did it. He's like I can be uncomfortable
- 5:51and that's something that a man needs to know how to do be
- 5:54uncomfortable, dad tells me that all the time, and I started
- 5:57laughing in my eyes filled up with tears.
- 5:59And I said, you know what, You're right.
- 6:02And here's the thing. You now know you can go much
- 6:05further than you thought you ever could go.
- 6:08And you have to always remember that.
- 6:10That's why we teach people to firewalk and pull jump and break
- 6:14arrows, and do all these other things break boards because it
- 6:17teaches you can go further than you ever thought you could go
- 6:20and he learned that lesson with algebra.
- 6:23So I'm bringing this to you. To ask you to ask yourself where
- 6:27do I think I can push myself that I can go further.
- 6:30Than I ever thought I could go. Because when you do that, you
- 6:34stretch and you feel amazing. That kid is walking around,
- 6:37puffed up like a little peacock so push yourself.
- 6:41See what you can come up with. All right, my friends.
- 6:44Hopefully tomorrow will be warmer.
- 6:45I won't be in the winter jacket on my porch and it'll stop
- 6:49raining. All right, I'll see you guys
- 6:51tomorrow. I have a blessed day.
- 6:53Bye.
