- 0:06Speaker 1: This is going to be a good one. Today we
- 0:07Speaker 1: have JP Morgan versus Ripple. We're going to break it
- 0:10Speaker 1: down for you. My name is Paul Barrel. Welcome back
- 0:11Speaker 1: into the show. Let's get into it. I do want
- 0:13Speaker 1: to thank our sponsor and that is Uphold. This is
- 0:15Speaker 1: where you guys can go to get into your own
- 0:17Speaker 1: strategy for building digital asset wealth. Now, there's a lot
- 0:21Speaker 1: of things you can do over there. Staking rewards is one.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You can get access to three hundred different cryptocurrencies. You
- 0:27Speaker 1: can also get new tokens early and as you go
- 0:30Speaker 1: through the rolodex here full transparency, you can go over
- 0:34Speaker 1: get that app earn up to four and a half
- 0:35Speaker 1: percent apy on your dollars going into Upholds.
- 0:38Speaker 2: So check it out.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Use our link down below for a little bit of
- 0:41Speaker 1: a discount. A couple of weeks ago, we did this video.
- 0:43Speaker 1: This of course had Canary Capital Stephen mclarg on it.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And in this video what it broke down was the
- 0:48Speaker 1: issue of fees coming from banks, meaning remember that your
- 0:51Speaker 1: plaid connection between a lot of these digital services is
- 0:55Speaker 1: now going to get a fee. And this is going
- 0:57Speaker 1: to happen in all areas, but specific we're going to
- 1:00Speaker 1: see it in the crypto market, meaning if you were
- 1:02Speaker 1: trying to move something to Gemini or Coinbase or Robinhood,
- 1:05Speaker 1: eventually there's going to be a fee there that would
- 1:06Speaker 1: slow you down. This is what they were talking about,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and now it is starting to happen. Here is, of
- 1:12Speaker 1: course Tyler Winklevoss breaking this down my tweet from last
- 1:15Speaker 1: week struck a nerve. JP Morgan told us that because
- 1:18Speaker 1: if they were pausing re onboarding of Gemini customers, they're
- 1:22Speaker 1: going to off board us during the operational change here,
- 1:26Speaker 1: which is where they're going to start charging for you
- 1:28Speaker 1: know FinTechs like Plat etc. This hurts all those kinds
- 1:31Speaker 1: of companies and it puts a little bit of a
- 1:34Speaker 1: slow down in crypto onboarding. Now, if you've got cash
- 1:37Speaker 1: already in these places, that's different, but if you need
- 1:39Speaker 1: to move cash into them, we're going to see fees
- 1:41Speaker 1: coming up in the future. Let me know in the comments,
- 1:43Speaker 1: would you guys pay a fee on your side? We
- 1:46Speaker 1: may see this fee being paid by the other side
- 1:50Speaker 1: when you're still having it. But it is going to
- 1:52Speaker 1: slow things down because what we've seen with Plaid and
- 1:54Speaker 1: things like that in terms of transferring money. It's almost
- 1:56Speaker 1: been instantaneous. This is a clip that breaks down. Well, actually,
- 2:00Speaker 1: let me show you something. This is what it's going
- 2:01Speaker 1: to look like. Inside one of these wallets, add a
- 2:05Speaker 1: payment method deposit or withdrawal, and then you're going to
- 2:08Speaker 1: have to go in and actually go wire transfer. That's
- 2:12Speaker 1: the route you're going to have in terms of options,
- 2:14Speaker 1: so really limits you and being able to not collect
- 2:16Speaker 1: or connect directly to your bank. This again gets back
- 2:19Speaker 1: to kind of this version of choke point three point zero. Now,
- 2:22Speaker 1: what are these fees going to look like? Well, you've
- 2:24Speaker 1: got them right here, JP Morgan, Wells Fargo. These are
- 2:27Speaker 1: the kind of scenarios that are going to play out
- 2:29Speaker 1: in coming domestic, outgoing, domestic, et cetera. Fees across the board,
- 2:34Speaker 1: all of this coming at the industry and a lot
- 2:37Speaker 1: of investors I think out there who have been investing
- 2:39Speaker 1: in this space for a while understand this is big
- 2:42Speaker 1: banks continuing to turn the knife, and I think this
- 2:45Speaker 1: may end up snake biting them in the future. And
- 2:49Speaker 1: the reason is is you're going to have companies like Robinhood,
- 2:52Speaker 1: who's already started to move into their banking strategy, talking
- 2:55Speaker 1: about launching this in the fall. Here's a little bit
- 2:57Speaker 1: of a sneak peek this. It will be a welcome
- 3:01Speaker 1: site I think for many people under the age of forty.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And what I mean by that is that when you
- 3:06Speaker 1: look at this next generation of investor, savers and people
- 3:11Speaker 1: using finance products, they are starting to look at alternatives.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We're already seeing this across the board, and in fact,
- 3:18Speaker 1: I think we're going to see this accelerate. Robinhood cannot
- 3:22Speaker 1: get here fast enough with their program, all right, So
- 3:26Speaker 1: the point behind this is there's going to be a
- 3:27Speaker 1: lot of other people that are joining them, other companies
- 3:29Speaker 1: that are joining Robinhood and others for these banking license
- 3:32Speaker 1: of course Bitco, you know, Ripplenational Bank or National Trust Bank.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And then of course you've got Circle right there. First,
- 3:39Speaker 1: National Digital Currency Airport, which is a Peter Thiel organization
- 3:43Speaker 1: that's going after almost a neobank concept, Fidelity, you know,
- 3:47Speaker 1: in the National Digital Trust, all of these of which
- 3:49Speaker 1: are next generation banks, all filing for a banking charter.
- 3:54Speaker 1: This is going to put a lot of pressure on
- 3:56Speaker 1: the existing bank. So what has happened out here is
- 3:59Speaker 1: the OCC is saying, hey, the banking system is well
- 4:02Speaker 1: embraced or well a positioned to embrace crypto in general,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and for the most part, I think they are going
- 4:08Speaker 1: to proceed down the normal process of approval. The issue
- 4:12Speaker 1: that's starting to brew right now is that JP Morgan
- 4:16Speaker 1: and many others are trying to circle the wagon, so
- 4:19Speaker 1: to speak, and develop other alternatives. One thing to point
- 4:22Speaker 1: out right here is JP Morgan saying that they're saying
- 4:25Speaker 1: that they're going to test blockchain stable coin services for
- 4:28Speaker 1: these institutional payments. But if you look at some of
- 4:31Speaker 1: the things that really align here within the Genius Act,
- 4:34Speaker 1: let me kind of zoom up on that Genius Act
- 4:36Speaker 1: distinguishes between deposit tokens from payment stable coins. So payment
- 4:40Speaker 1: stable coins right there designed to be used as means
- 4:42Speaker 1: a payment or settlement. Then you have deposit tokens right there,
- 4:45Speaker 1: which are for deposit banks. These are explicitly issued or
- 4:49Speaker 1: excluded from the definition of stable coins under the Genius Act.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So this starts to change the dynamic here. Now I
- 4:56Speaker 1: want to go to a clip because this will explain
- 4:59Speaker 1: why we we believe that diamond is absolutely against stablecoins.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Take a look utilizing leveraging competing with stable coin, and
- 5:09Speaker 3: how the JPM d deposit token feeds into all of
- 5:15Speaker 3: this as well. Thank you.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Yeah, so deposit token is effectively the same thing. You're
- 5:19Speaker 4: moving money by token. You can pay interest. We don't
- 5:22Speaker 4: know exactly. I think they're real, but I don't know
- 5:24Speaker 4: why you'd want to stable coin as opposed to payment.
- 5:27Speaker 4: But I do think you have fintech. You know these
- 5:29Speaker 4: you guys are very smart. They're trying to figure out
- 5:31Speaker 4: a way to create bank accounts, to get the payment
- 5:34Speaker 4: systems and rewards programs. And we have to be cognizant
- 5:37Speaker 4: that the way to be congreizan is to be involved.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Okay, super all.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Right, so you can kind of see he says you
- 5:43Speaker 1: don't need them, we realize they're real. Well, you do
- 5:47Speaker 1: need them if you're gonna see yields and potential engagement
- 5:50Speaker 1: in different kind of platforms, whether it's DeFi or a
- 5:53Speaker 1: lot of these alternative markets out there. It's not only
- 5:57Speaker 1: JP Morgan, it's also City Group talking about conser tering issue.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It's issuing its own deposit token. Let's get away from
- 6:04Speaker 1: using the term stable coin. That's not what they are.
- 6:06Speaker 1: This is coming from your CEO. Now, I want to
- 6:08Speaker 1: go to this next clip, which is where they have
- 6:11Speaker 1: a whole issue of where JP Morgan is actually and
- 6:14Speaker 1: he's kind of gas lighting people around this open banking concept.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Take a look.
- 6:19Speaker 3: And then separately on the topic of open banking, I
- 6:24Speaker 3: think that's on hold right now with the CFPP. Does
- 6:27Speaker 3: this hold period give you an opportunity to change how
- 6:32Speaker 3: you're pricing for your open banking and fintech relationships here?
- 6:37Speaker 4: So this is very important. So if we get pricing
- 6:39Speaker 4: for a second, we are in favor of the customer.
- 6:44Speaker 4: And if you see today, you know a lot of
- 6:46Speaker 4: these scams and foods you run through third party social
- 6:49Speaker 4: media and stuff like that, there should be a little
- 6:51Speaker 4: more responsibility in their port. That's why.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Excellent, Okay, thank you so much for that.
- 6:57Speaker 1: All right, So now he's calling many of these companies
- 6:59Speaker 1: has been around for over a decade scams and the
- 7:02Speaker 1: point is is that they continue to put these barriers
- 7:05Speaker 1: up because they know that the end is near. One
- 7:07Speaker 1: of the things that City Bank, this is coming from
- 7:09Speaker 1: one of the reports from City Group actually says this
- 7:12Speaker 1: out in the open. And what they're saying here is
- 7:13Speaker 1: that if you group together this is Bank of American,
- 7:16Speaker 1: JP Morgan and others, you could very quickly create a
- 7:20Speaker 1: whole alliance that would be impenetrable by these new entrants.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So think of Gemini, robin Hood, you know, Circle Ripple,
- 7:27Speaker 1: et cetera. This is a little bit of the thing
- 7:30Speaker 1: because remember they did this with Zell And this is
- 7:34Speaker 1: the issue because to me, this is what needs to
- 7:35Speaker 1: happen for all the benefits that they're talking about to
- 7:38Speaker 1: stay locking you in their ecosystem. This gets back to
- 7:43Speaker 1: the point of holding customers hostage instead of giving the
- 7:47Speaker 1: ability to move around in different financial systems. And as
- 7:50Speaker 1: we see all of this take place, Guys, this is
- 7:53Speaker 1: a big, big deal. This could be choke point three
- 7:56Speaker 1: point zero hidden inside of the Genius Act for helping
- 8:00Speaker 1: these big banks hopefully defend off. Now can they hold
- 8:03Speaker 1: it for long? That I don't know, because it will
- 8:05Speaker 1: all depend on the occ and how quickly they approve
- 8:09Speaker 1: these banks. If they approve them quickly, then it's a
- 8:11Speaker 1: different deal. One thing that happened a very long time
- 8:14Speaker 1: ago was Brad garling House actually foresaw this. Look at
- 8:18Speaker 1: what he said, this is the case against bank Cooin
- 8:21Speaker 1: what he called it. This was August twenty fourth, twenty sixteen. Guys,
- 8:25Speaker 1: twenty sixteen, and he kind of goes into it. He's
- 8:28Speaker 1: talking about Deutsche Bank, standard er Be and y all that,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and then their city coin and guess what, Golden Sacks
- 8:33Speaker 1: and even their settle coin. So the point being is
- 8:36Speaker 1: he knew this was coming. This was just a matter
- 8:38Speaker 1: of time. A couple of things had to happen, though,
- 8:40Speaker 1: to make all this work. One, the regulation had to happen.
- 8:44Speaker 1: We had to see Potus get into office, restructure crypto.
- 8:47Speaker 1: That's been done. Then we had to see the Genius
- 8:50Speaker 1: Act get through. Now that's been done. Stable Coin is underway.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Now you have to go in through the process of
- 8:55Speaker 1: these charters. All of this is now underway. And what's
- 8:59Speaker 1: interesting to me is the banks didn't foresee this company coming,
- 9:03Speaker 1: so they had to rely on other methods. One of them,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and this is a quirre garling House kind of goes
- 9:09Speaker 1: in and roast JP Morgan a little bit, and I'll
- 9:12Speaker 1: explain why and their tactics they're going to try here
- 9:15Speaker 1: in a second. Take a look at this.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I think it's great for the blockchain and crypto industry
- 9:19Speaker 2: to have players like JPM leaning in thumbs up. That's great.
- 9:23Speaker 2: That's the only nice thing IM gonna say about this.
- 9:26Speaker 2: So is Morgan Stanley going to use the JPM coin?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Probably not, you know, And so Well City going to
- 9:30Speaker 2: use a JPM coin, Is b of A going to
- 9:32Speaker 2: use a JPM coins P and Z? And the answer
- 9:34Speaker 2: is no. Does that mean we're all going to have
- 9:35Speaker 2: these different coins? And does that mean like we're back
- 9:37Speaker 2: to where we are where there's lack of interoperability, So like, well,
- 9:39Speaker 2: I don't get it. One more quick thing on a
- 9:41Speaker 2: JPM coin. They announced for institutional customers, if you give
- 9:45Speaker 2: them a dollar and deposits, they'll give you a JPM
- 9:48Speaker 2: coin that you then can move within the JPM ledger.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Wait a minute, just use the dollar, right, Well, I don't.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I really don't understand if you're just moving it within
- 9:57Speaker 2: the JPM ledger and it has to be dollar to
- 9:59Speaker 2: a dollar, you know, a one to one backing, it
- 10:02Speaker 2: honestly doesn't. Actually, I don't understand what problem that solves. Look,
- 10:04Speaker 2: if it solves the problem of JPM being associated as
- 10:07Speaker 2: they're leaning into crypto, ya, that's all I got.
- 10:12Speaker 1: As you see right there on that this is pretty
- 10:14Speaker 1: much a PR stunt from the banking industry. The problem
- 10:17Speaker 1: is is They're getting into an era of next generation
- 10:20Speaker 1: investors and banking customers that already kind of see through
- 10:24Speaker 1: this fraud, and I think that is a factor. They're
- 10:26Speaker 1: either going to have to change their ways at some
- 10:28Speaker 1: point or they will die. And the reason they're going
- 10:31Speaker 1: to die, well, it's things like this right here, This
- 10:33Speaker 1: is AVE, and we had standing on the other day
- 10:36Speaker 1: that kind of explain this. This is rl USD average
- 10:39Speaker 1: ap y right now ten zero point one nine percent. Guys,
- 10:43Speaker 1: there is no bank in the world paying those kinds
- 10:45Speaker 1: of yields on a stable product like rl USD or
- 10:49Speaker 1: SDC or USDT. Those are the kind of things that
- 10:52Speaker 1: are happening in DeFi right now, Ripple. If you take
- 10:55Speaker 1: a look at their stable coin right now on market
- 10:57Speaker 1: cap continuing to climb. This is just the beginning of
- 11:01Speaker 1: where this is going. Expect a lot more other things
- 11:04Speaker 1: that I want to hit on right here, right there,
- 11:06Speaker 1: right now, ave R l USD nine and a half
- 11:09Speaker 1: XRP ledger integration, borrow, steak and swap that's coming. When
- 11:12Speaker 1: we start to see that, you're going to see another
- 11:13Speaker 1: explosion in terms of our assets are moved, especially into DeFi.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I think AVE is gonna be a big part of this. Then,
- 11:19Speaker 1: of course you got others out there paying ridiculous amounts
- 11:22Speaker 1: of APR right now. So the point is you've got
- 11:24Speaker 1: a lot of markets starting to open up, two stable
- 11:27Speaker 1: coins and the interoperability of things like r l usd USDC, etc.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Let me go to one more clip. This is Charles
- 11:33Speaker 1: Hoskinson Cardano breaking down why the Dino tokens will actually
- 11:39Speaker 1: benefit from all this. Take a look.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Is that the dynamic with some of these other like
- 11:44Speaker 5: I don't know how you feel about this term, but
- 11:45Speaker 5: like Dino coins, like you know, there's when the market
- 11:48Speaker 5: really pumps, like you guys pump, Ripple pumps, Hadera pumps,
- 11:52Speaker 5: Algorm pumps.
- 11:53Speaker 6: What was really cool is that the Japanese buy and
- 11:55Speaker 6: holding you just never sell fifty percent or more is
- 11:57Speaker 6: still sitting in Japan. So it's about fifteen billion dollars.
- 12:01Speaker 6: They sell, they get a fifty five percent tax rate.
- 12:03Speaker 6: So here's why it's going to supercharge default.
- 12:05Speaker 5: So they just never sell because of the tax rate.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Yeah, just told it. But basically, if you make a
- 12:09Speaker 6: yield product out of it where they lend their aid
- 12:11Speaker 6: to create a stable coin and do that, then they're
- 12:13Speaker 6: not selling right. So once those DeFi markets turn on
- 12:16Speaker 6: and the Japanese decide to do that like instantly, the
- 12:19Speaker 6: TVL goes to like.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Okay, So Charles, I agree with you. Think about this
- 12:26Speaker 1: right here. This is a good example of this. If
- 12:28Speaker 1: it suddenly cost you ten bucks to move one hundred
- 12:30Speaker 1: bucks into coinbase or Robinhood, fewer people possibly would do it.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Or if it cost you ten bucks to get a
- 12:37Speaker 1: cheaper from fintech, maybe you'd be forced to take a
- 12:40Speaker 1: crappier one by JPM. So this is a problem because
- 12:44Speaker 1: it starts to move into holding customers hostage. I agree
- 12:48Speaker 1: with this statement. This is a problem for banks. Now,
- 12:51Speaker 1: there's two things that can happen here. The banks can
- 12:53Speaker 1: eventually open up to this, but how much damage have
- 12:56Speaker 1: they done versus embracing it in the beginning. It's still
- 13:01Speaker 1: old school thinking. That's the problem right now with old
- 13:04Speaker 1: school banking. If they would just move forward, there's no
- 13:07Speaker 1: telling how big and how great they could be and
- 13:10Speaker 1: how easy it would be to maintain that customer base
- 13:13Speaker 1: that they already spend billions, if not trillions to obtain.
- 13:17Speaker 1: All right, So with Ripple applying for the banking license.
- 13:20Speaker 1: The reaction was the BPI. This, of course is the
- 13:23Speaker 1: Bank Policy Institutes. They are a lobbying group. They represent
- 13:26Speaker 1: forty two different banks. We'll explain that in a second.
- 13:29Speaker 1: But here's what the letter said. If you go further
- 13:31Speaker 1: on down here, and they're talking about this deadline, because
- 13:34Speaker 1: the deadline August fourth, you'll see it right there. This
- 13:36Speaker 1: is an insufficient time period of time to meaningfully consider
- 13:40Speaker 1: or comment on the application in light of the novel
- 13:43Speaker 1: activities in which the applicant seemingly poses to engage. The
- 13:47Speaker 1: applicant may implicate major legal and policy questions for the
- 13:51Speaker 1: first time, and therefore requires more time for review. In
- 13:54Speaker 1: other words, they're stalling further into that. They go down here,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and it's kind of interesting. This is a high level
- 14:02Speaker 1: generic description. I love this proposed by activities does not
- 14:06Speaker 1: provide adequate information about the operations to allow public to
- 14:11Speaker 1: evaluate these potential problems, risk, legal policy, all of this.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It's going to blow up. And the reason it's an
- 14:19Speaker 1: OS moment for them is because of this right here,
- 14:22Speaker 1: let's take a look at the Policy Institute. Well, there's
- 14:25Speaker 1: Jane Fraser, the CEO of City Bank, and who's this
- 14:28Speaker 1: guy who's that guy? That must be Jamie Diamond. He's
- 14:31Speaker 1: right there in the middle of all this. Of course, guys,
- 14:35Speaker 1: this is a strategic move to delay, defend, deflect, whatever
- 14:38Speaker 1: you want to call it. The OCC is going to
- 14:40Speaker 1: approve this. It's all about the timeline. Add another sixty days,
- 14:44Speaker 1: add another thirty on top of that, because you're going
- 14:46Speaker 1: to see this little dance start to happen. And what
- 14:48Speaker 1: it boils down to is maybe a January first or
- 14:51Speaker 1: earlier launch of what we're going to see, and that
- 14:55Speaker 1: is the ripple banking system being improved. So one hundred
- 14:57Speaker 1: and fifty six days on the outside, on the inside
- 15:01Speaker 1: we could see much faster. I hope that is the case.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But more importantly, I hope that banks start to realize
- 15:07Speaker 1: that you are much smarter and that the next generation
- 15:10Speaker 1: of investors and bank customers are extremely savvy of what's
- 15:14Speaker 1: going on. I think they are a little bit blind
- 15:17Speaker 1: to all of this. So it's a big one, all right.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So you guys make sure and leave comments below. And
- 15:21Speaker 1: I think one of the things you should be doing
- 15:23Speaker 1: is start to check with your own banks. What are
- 15:24Speaker 1: they doing. Are they starting to implement these fees on you?
- 15:28Speaker 1: Speak up, let them know you're not happy with those
- 15:31Speaker 1: kind of things. And I think the opportunity educate them,
- 15:34Speaker 1: the more customers talk to them and start to hit
- 15:36Speaker 1: them on social maybe, just maybe they'll change their ways.
- 15:40Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I don't think they will. I think there's a next
- 15:43Speaker 1: generation that's in front of us, and it's all happening
- 15:45Speaker 1: right here on the blockchain. You guys, make sure and
- 15:47Speaker 1: subscribe to the show. If you're not in the Diamond circle,
- 15:49Speaker 1: get in on that right now. That's our own private
- 15:51Speaker 1: email list that goes out to you with additional research.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Follow me on x at Paul Baron. We'll catch you
- 15:56Speaker 1: next time, right here on the Paul Baron Show.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Do you think
