  And on this episode we're going to talk about Tesla and we're
• 2:25
  going to be talking about V's in general.

  Actually. So a lot of people have sort of
• 2:32
  a barrier of entry for a Tesla, whether it's the range, the
• 2:36
  price or the time, it takes to charge and, you know, some
• 2:40
  people just don't want to sit around for 45 minutes to an hour
• 2:44
  while their car charger. Has it sounds like a pain in the
• 2:47
  bunt, you know, if you just going out to do your daily
• 2:51
  chores, you know, like you going to go down to the grocery store
• 2:54
  or something, you don't want to have to wait to charge your car
• 3:01
  for 45 minutes to an hour. Basically what I'm getting at is
• 3:06
  if you're on a road trip and you just want to stop real quick,
• 3:10
  get some gas, get back in the car and keep going.
• 3:14
  Then that's what you want to do. You don't want to wait around
• 3:18
  for an hour get lunch or whatever.
• 3:21
  It doesn't seem like a really opportune thing to do.
• 3:25
  You just have something in mind that you are going to be doing
• 3:31
  traveling from point. A to point B, and in between you
• 3:33
  have to get Some sort of fuel and is how it's always been with
• 3:36
  vehicles with modern-day combustion engines.

  It takes a couple minutes to pump gas, you know, to fill a
• 3:43
  tank. It takes about 3 to 5 minutes
• 3:46
  and the car batteries takes a long time.
• 3:52
  So the Pennsylvania State University researchers have come
• 3:57
  up with a plan to charge your battery in 10 minutes and you
• 4:04
  Get a 200 to 300 mile charge out of that, so the 10-minute trend
• 4:13
  is what everybody's looking for, right?
• 4:14
  So, 10 minutes isn't really that much time.
• 4:16
  You could just sit in your car for 10 minutes, charge, it up,
• 4:20
  play on your phone, check your social media, listen to this
• 4:23
  podcast, and then you're good to go, right?
• 4:25
  That's part of the range anxiety.
• 4:28
  It's like, okay, I'm going to have to wait 40 minutes for my
• 4:31
  battery to charge again, and I have to go 300 Mi that sucks.

  So these researchers at the Pennsylvania State University
• 4:43
  have come up with an idea to charge the battery rapidly.
• 4:47
  And it's basically what they do is they pump a charge in it
• 4:52
  really fast, high voltage. High wattage. get in there as
• 4:57
  fast as possible, but the problem is, when you charge it,
• 5:02
  that rapidly with that amount of energy, The lithium deposits on
• 5:07
  the batteries, electrodes, right in this lithium plating, it
• 5:12
  decreases, the batteries performance, and the lifespan of
• 5:15
  the battery. And it could possibly
• 5:17
  short-circuit your battery and make it dangerous.
• 5:20
  So, that's not a good thing. And what researchers have found
• 5:24
  is that they can heat it, right? So they can heat the technique
• 5:30
  of moving the energy so fast. And that if they charge the
• 5:34
  battery at a high temperature of 60 degrees Celsius, and then
• 5:37
  quickly cooled, it it charged with out plating in 10 minutes.

  It's discharged, a room temperature.
• 5:46
  So, how would that work in a Tesla vehicle?
• 5:49
  They'd have to make a new system, where it charged fast
• 5:53
  and hot. And then cooled it off really
• 5:56
  quick. And that would have, you know,
• 5:58
  they'd have to come up with a whole new system for that.

  I'm not exactly sure how they would do that.

  I'm not an engineer myself, but it seems like this is sort of
• 6:07
  the way of the future. You know, we want to get down to
• 6:11
  5 minutes charging that would be amazing, but 10 minutes charging
• 6:15
  would be absolutely. Awesome at this point because
• 6:20
  like I was saying before we all want to charge our vehicles at a
• 6:26
  decent clip, I don't want to have to stop at the mall, go to
• 6:29
  the food court, you know, I don't want to do these other
• 6:32
  things. When I'm out doing the thing
• 6:35
  that I want to do, which is traveling from point.
• 6:36
  A to point B, just want to go do the thing that I want to do and
• 6:40
  if you know, it's my fault, if I don't charge my car overnight,
• 6:43
  that's my fault. But you know we're only human
• 6:46
  and sometimes those things happen.
• 6:49
  So you have to think about that too.
• 6:51
  Like what would you do if you were presented in that situation
• 6:56
  and you don't have the time, you know, some people just don't
• 6:59
  have the time to charge for 45 minutes.

  You're running late for work, you have 10% battery.
• 7:06
  Usually you can stop at a gas station real quick.
• 7:09
  Pump it real quick. You're good to go.

  You're back on your way to work, but if you were an in an EV, you
• 7:17
  know, You know, a 20 mile charge could take 10-15 minutes at this
• 7:25
  point. Maybe not that long, but, you
• 7:27
  know what I'm saying? It takes a couple of takes a
• 7:29
  little bit too long to do that at this point with the
• 7:32
  technology. So this new technique for
• 7:36
  charging seems like it could be the wave of the future so to
• 7:42
  speak. So hopefully they figure this
• 7:45
  out and hopefully Tesla Tesla. Involves this sort of technology
• 7:50
  in their next round of upgrades for their next Vehicles.
• 7:54
  Maybe we're going to get on Cyber truck.
• 7:56
  I mean, it's coming out in a couple years so maybe they can,
• 8:00
  you know, maybe I'll buy the technology, who knows, maybe
• 8:03
  look by the patent and go crazy with it.

  And next thing, you know, we will be charging our vehicles in
• 8:12
  10 minutes or less. That would be awesome.

  Cyber truck here I come if that's the case.

  I mean, I don't see why Tessa wouldn't scooped up this
