- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a d M podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Don't tell them, Okay, Hello and welcome back to No Dribble,
- 0:24Speaker 2: the podcast where we talk about network, but we talk
- 0:25Speaker 2: about so much else. My name is Caroline Swindle. I'm
- 0:28Speaker 2: a comedian. I am joined each week and this is
- 0:31Speaker 2: so exciting because we've got the gang back together again.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I am joined by two legends of the Court.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Cathain and lose Alice.
- 0:40Speaker 2: She's back. We missed you.
- 0:43Speaker 3: The chair is back at the chair. I missed you
- 0:46Speaker 3: guys too.
- 0:47Speaker 4: I was a bit worried because you know, Gordi is
- 0:49Speaker 4: pretty funny and I thought, oh my goodness, she's going
- 0:51Speaker 4: to come back and take my job. And then, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 4: I have a real thing for underpaid work. At the moment,
- 0:56Speaker 4: I didn't want to lose this particular.
- 0:58Speaker 1: No, she didn't have some rock star stories. You might
- 1:01Speaker 1: have to up again.
- 1:02Speaker 2: If you're free up some time, someone might pay you
- 1:04Speaker 2: for it. So keep giving your time to us because
- 1:06Speaker 2: we appreciate it. Yeah, how was your holiday?
- 1:09Speaker 3: I was good fun.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Actually, we just took the caravan and just did a
- 1:12Speaker 4: little turtle through sort of western Queensland. We do like
- 1:15Speaker 4: a random road trip, and we just pointed the car
- 1:18Speaker 4: and the caravan west and headed out to Roma. They
- 1:21Speaker 4: have the biggest cattle yards in Australia, so we wanted
- 1:24Speaker 4: to go there for their Tuesday cattle sales and have
- 1:26Speaker 4: a look at that.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Don't tell me my life's not excited.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I can see Catherine's face going totally worse.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I grew up in queens saying. A girl I went
- 1:34Speaker 2: to high school with was heading over. She was a
- 1:36Speaker 2: woman this stage, heading over to Italy for her honeymoon,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and she was talking to her brother's then girlfriend and
- 1:42Speaker 2: she's going, oh, I'm going to roll mar She said, Rayma,
- 1:44Speaker 2: what do you want to go to Roma for?
- 1:49Speaker 4: You'd have to say it through your nose if you're
- 1:51Speaker 4: talking about Rama and Queensland, know you go to Rama.
- 1:54Speaker 3: That was lovely.
- 1:55Speaker 4: And then we just spent lots of time camping in
- 1:57Speaker 4: free camps on the sides of rivers and all out there.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And this is something that.
- 2:01Speaker 4: You like, you sort of don't realize until you go
- 2:03Speaker 4: they're all out there. There's all these artesian barths, right,
- 2:06Speaker 4: So there's all these little towns that have got these
- 2:08Speaker 4: little spas and you go and sit in the wall
- 2:11Speaker 4: and the warm water just comes and bubbles up.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And we went to this little place called Mitchell and
- 2:15Speaker 3: it had like.
- 2:16Speaker 4: A beautiful little warm pool and a pretty good coffee
- 2:19Speaker 4: and a nice little cafe, and then there was a
- 2:21Speaker 4: cold pool that you had to plunge into. They had
- 2:23Speaker 4: a hooter that went and the only people that got
- 2:25Speaker 4: out on the hooter were me and my kids or
- 2:27Speaker 4: the other oldies. They all stayed in there.
- 2:29Speaker 2: What happens at the hooter? What do you meant to do?
- 2:31Speaker 4: Well, you're supposed to get out and get in the
- 2:33Speaker 4: cold water, so you don't, I don't know, boil.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Because okay, right, you should behind.
- 2:41Speaker 3: But we had so much fun, and we just had
- 2:43Speaker 3: We just had campfires and just talked and went full
- 2:46Speaker 3: walks and just looked at stuff. So it was fun.
- 2:49Speaker 3: We went on a little river cruise out at Saint George.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Like you don't think that there's all of these beautiful
- 2:53Speaker 4: big rivers sort of.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Out in the outpack that you can just jump on
- 2:56Speaker 3: a boat and door.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Now, I thought we'd wrecked them all, But there are
- 2:59Speaker 2: still rivers out there apparently.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Yeah, there are stories sort of being hit pretty hard
- 3:04Speaker 4: with sort of different sort of uses.
- 3:05Speaker 3: But yeah, it was good fun. We had had some fun.
- 3:07Speaker 4: But I missed you guys, and I'm back in time
- 3:11Speaker 4: for the great final weeks.
- 3:14Speaker 1: She just saunters on in for the biggest game.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Of the year. She's the chair.
- 3:18Speaker 1: You're going to Adelaide, aren't you?
- 3:20Speaker 3: I am?
- 3:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Are we having drinks afterwards? It's the most important question.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I'm relying on you on the social coordinate.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I'm on it. I guess what. Speaking of Adelaide, I've
- 3:30Speaker 1: got a very exciting little message before people don't slide
- 3:33Speaker 1: into my d MS in a good way until this morning.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Well do you know what I mean? I want yeah, yeah, No,
- 3:41Speaker 2: there's so much in this to unpack.
- 3:43Speaker 1: There is, but let's just before you.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Go your message.
- 3:45Speaker 4: You don't get like, I don't know, hot plumbers and
- 3:48Speaker 4: stuff sliding into your day hot plummers.
- 3:50Speaker 1: That's very.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And I have been partnered up for since well before
- 3:56Speaker 2: anyone was sliding into anyone else's d MS.
- 3:59Speaker 3: This is it's very interesting.
- 4:01Speaker 4: But I have to say after I did the jungle
- 4:03Speaker 4: last year, I got I got women sliding into my
- 4:07Speaker 4: d MS asking for an introduction to Harry Goweside.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Really, Oh that's hysteroid.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Was like Harry, he was gunking up my inbox. I
- 4:15Speaker 3: can't imagine what his inbox was like.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Well, anyways, it's not it's not so much courtship this
- 4:19Speaker 1: particular message, but I still got very excited about it.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Fruit chocks. Wow, fruit chocks. After talking about the.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Fruit chocks though, it's fruit chocks, fruit chocks.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Fruit chocks.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Okay, I thought you said fruit chocks.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I did say fruit choks, but not fruit chos.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It is fruit for you.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I've been yeah this whole time, and sorry, they're sliding
- 4:39Speaker 2: into your dms.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And I can't even get the name right now. I
- 4:41Speaker 1: don't I'm too busy eating them.
- 4:43Speaker 2: All right, So what did fruit chocks have to say?
- 4:46Speaker 1: They said, A little Birdie told us you're a huge fan.
- 4:49Speaker 1: We've just listened to the potty and we are netball
- 4:51Speaker 1: fans as well, And I wrote back, Now, this is
- 4:54Speaker 1: almost as exciting as a Georgie Horges message. But I'll
- 4:59Speaker 1: see you in the way, Catherine.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Free chocks or a hot plumbers or.
- 5:05Speaker 2: You know what fruit chocks are. Consistently good.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I'm going the free chocks, the nearly
- 5:13Speaker 1: fifty year old version of me. Yeah, anyway, that story, Elizabeth.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They'll be in Adelaide on the weekend. I may share
- 5:21Speaker 1: some with you.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Oh that's a bit exciting.
- 5:24Speaker 2: May I said, Well, this is what an idiot I am.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I am performing at the Comedy Store on Saturday night.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I thought the Grand Final was on Sunday and so
- 5:34Speaker 2: I and I love performing at the Comedy Store in Sydney.
- 5:37Speaker 2: It is the best comedy probably in Australia. But it's like,
- 5:40Speaker 2: I don't want to be here with you guys, So
- 5:41Speaker 2: I'm going to be watching it on my phone backstage
- 5:44Speaker 2: between acts. I think, oh, I know, you.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Can't even do that. I feel like you just need
- 5:47Speaker 1: to not look at social media and wait till you
- 5:50Speaker 1: get the telly in front of you and do it
- 5:52Speaker 1: properly with a wine. Just don't talk to anyone. Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Then I can't chat with the dribblers though. And I
- 5:56Speaker 2: got to say on Facebook, it was really fun on
- 5:59Speaker 2: the week ken for those of us who were watching
- 6:02Speaker 2: it on our televisions. It's a lot of fun. Joined
- 6:04Speaker 2: the Facebook page, guys, if you're not already on it.
- 6:05Speaker 2: It's no Dribble podcast is the page our Facebook group.
- 6:08Speaker 2: We're over three thousand strong of just really nice people
- 6:12Speaker 2: and like people sharing tickets and saying I can't go,
- 6:16Speaker 2: or now I've got a better seat somewhere else. Does
- 6:19Speaker 2: anyone want to use it? We had Allison come up
- 6:21Speaker 2: from Tazzy and saying, any dribbler is going to go
- 6:24Speaker 2: to the game, and it was just I love it.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It's great. So if you're not part of it, get
- 6:27Speaker 2: on board.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You know what else I love about them? They take
- 6:30Speaker 1: the piss out of us, and I'm so.
- 6:32Speaker 2: He especially you.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I know, I love it. But I was the only
- 6:36Speaker 1: one that wasn't spotted either but before the weekend, and
- 6:39Speaker 1: then there was a few shots of the back of
- 6:41Speaker 1: me with my VPL that ended up on Facebook.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Oh really?
- 6:44Speaker 4: Can I say how nice it is to have the
- 6:46Speaker 4: piss taken out of us by people who love us
- 6:48Speaker 4: as opposed to our children.
- 6:50Speaker 3: True?
- 6:50Speaker 4: Yeah, my fed end year old girl has started it,
- 6:52Speaker 4: and I don't know she loves me that much. So
- 6:54Speaker 4: thank god for the dribblers. Thank God I actually made
- 6:56Speaker 4: my kids five years apart. You'll appreciate this, Carolyn, when
- 7:00Speaker 4: one goes through like puberty and becomes a teenager who
- 7:03Speaker 4: rolls their eyes at you. The other one still loved you,
- 7:05Speaker 4: and then I'm hoping that when Austin goes into this
- 7:09Speaker 4: puberty teenager business and everyone will come back to me.
- 7:11Speaker 3: So I think, like a five year GAP's good.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I did a five year gap is good too, and
- 7:15Speaker 2: I didn't It was by no intention. I intended to
- 7:18Speaker 2: have them closer together. What I didn't factor in though,
- 7:21Speaker 2: is menopause in that and the three of us having
- 7:24Speaker 2: read late being geriatric pregnancies, which I think is a
- 7:27Speaker 2: delightful term, thank you very much. That is something you
- 7:29Speaker 2: now need to think about, that you might have adolescents
- 7:32Speaker 2: and menopause in the house at the same time.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So rage, there's the difference between boys and girls, right,
- 7:40Speaker 1: like when Austin gets to he's a pp I had
- 7:45Speaker 1: AVV whatever it is called now, No, But like when
- 7:47Speaker 1: Austin becomes a teenager, he's not going to be as
- 7:49Speaker 1: bad as a teenage.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Girl for.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Having a teenage boy in the house. The unbridled hatred
- 7:59Speaker 2: for me that because just briefly and he's very self aware,
- 8:04Speaker 2: you know, quite quickly thereafter. But yeah, man, we've had
- 8:07Speaker 2: some stuff.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Oh really, that's because you wear a propeller hat in
- 8:10Speaker 1: front of him.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I'm forced to do. I'm forced to hate, Liz. Can
- 8:15Speaker 2: we just have a quick update because you've got some
- 8:17Speaker 2: good news about a sad story you told us a
- 8:19Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago.
- 8:20Speaker 4: I did tell you a sad story about having to
- 8:23Speaker 4: give up Jack Russell Terry a flip because he was
- 8:26Speaker 4: presenting not just a danger to himself, but a danger
- 8:29Speaker 4: to local bike riders and peacocks and our chickens. So
- 8:33Speaker 4: we had to give him up, and we gave him
- 8:34Speaker 4: up to the Northern River's Animal Service in northern New
- 8:37Speaker 4: South Wales, which.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Is actually where we got him from.
- 8:40Speaker 4: And I was really worried, so I thought, oh, just
- 8:42Speaker 4: thought of giving up your puppy who you loved. But
- 8:44Speaker 4: it was freezing good and for our good. And anyway,
- 8:47Speaker 4: he was on their Facebook page for a hot five
- 8:50Speaker 4: minutes and he's off there.
- 8:51Speaker 3: He got off there.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he's got a new home.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Found a home.
- 8:55Speaker 4: But actually, when we're on holidays, we went into this
- 8:57Speaker 4: place at Roma and we're booking in to have dinner,
- 9:00Speaker 4: and we had to sort of walk around to this
- 9:02Speaker 4: little reception area, and the lady walked out and she
- 9:05Speaker 4: goes and she had all these little dash.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Hound they're like sausage dogs ships have on crime dogs,
- 9:13Speaker 3: very low them and the kids will beside them.
- 9:16Speaker 4: So she said, oh, you've got kids, just hang on
- 9:18Speaker 4: a second, and she walked out. We walked back to
- 9:21Speaker 4: her back room and walked out with these two dash
- 9:24Speaker 4: ound puppies and they were beautiful, and of course.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Our kids are like. I thought, this is it.
- 9:30Speaker 4: I'm going to drop two thousand bucks here or five
- 9:32Speaker 4: thousand bucks whatever they are on dash hound puppies, because
- 9:35Speaker 4: how can I say no?
- 9:36Speaker 3: But then she said the magic words. They're already sold.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I said, kids, go for your life, right. I love them,
- 9:43Speaker 3: but you have to give them back.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Can you imagine a sausage dog at your place? Though?
- 9:47Speaker 1: The funniest thing with Flip and Jock, who was the
- 9:50Speaker 1: one before, is they would follow the truck up the
- 9:52Speaker 1: property which is all long grass, and they would just
- 9:54Speaker 1: jump out of it. They're full of beans. You would
- 9:56Speaker 1: lose a sausage dog in that long grass and never
- 9:59Speaker 1: find again.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I don't think sausage dogs have the same prey driver
- 10:02Speaker 4: that terriers do, so I suspect if we had a
- 10:04Speaker 4: sausage dog, it would stay put.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Well, I do have friends. We've got a dashound of
- 10:09Speaker 3: sausage dog.
- 10:10Speaker 4: And it's very anxious, like they can't leave it at
- 10:13Speaker 4: home by itself, and they can do it for a
- 10:15Speaker 4: short time while unless they've got the television on and
- 10:17Speaker 4: it's got a special and then when they go to work,
- 10:20Speaker 4: they've got to take it to like doggy daycare because
- 10:22Speaker 4: it doesn't cope ver well.
- 10:23Speaker 3: So I don't know. I don't know that the dashound
- 10:25Speaker 3: is nice.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I've got to say I have a real bias against
- 10:28Speaker 2: the dashound. And you would think, as a person with
- 10:31Speaker 2: short legs that I would really like the animals with
- 10:35Speaker 2: short legs. But I look at it and go, you're
- 10:37Speaker 2: all wrong, Like, give me a Jack Russell. It's got
- 10:40Speaker 2: short legs, but it's proportional to its body. I'm not
- 10:42Speaker 2: a fan a lot of dash so that puts you off.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It's the long tour, so yeah, so anyway we can
- 10:49Speaker 2: unpack that in counseling after the episode. There's a lot
- 10:53Speaker 2: of netball to talk about, so we need to get
- 10:55Speaker 2: to that. Obviously, there was a final on the weekend.
- 10:58Speaker 2: There's been a whole lot of stuff in terms of
- 11:01Speaker 2: players coming off contract and announcements being made there. So
- 11:05Speaker 2: we will get to that shortly. But Kath, speaking of counseling,
- 11:10Speaker 2: do you have something you need to share with us?
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah? And just reminded me too, because Liz was talking
- 11:15Speaker 1: about her daughter giving her grief. So what is it
- 11:18Speaker 1: about people that, particularly when you're tall or there's something
- 11:22Speaker 1: about you that might be a little bit different, they
- 11:24Speaker 1: feel like they can just say it to your face.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So I was doing the grocery shopping the other day,
- 11:28Speaker 1: got in the lift heading up, so the door's open
- 11:31Speaker 1: and I walk in and this guy it's like he
- 11:33Speaker 1: just his filter wasn't working, but he just looks straight
- 11:35Speaker 1: at me and goes, geez, they didn't stop wording you,
- 11:38Speaker 1: did they.
- 11:42Speaker 2: That?
- 11:43Speaker 1: That was kind of my reaction. I wanted to punch him,
- 11:46Speaker 1: but I also wanted to give him a little pat
- 11:48Speaker 1: on the back because I haven't heard that one before.
- 11:50Speaker 3: No, that was a good.
- 11:51Speaker 4: One, better than nose And what's the weather like up there?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Were?
- 11:58Speaker 1: I haven't done that one before. That was be tempty,
- 12:00Speaker 1: But God, there was so much I wanted to say back,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and I thought I won't because your comments are more
- 12:06Speaker 1: about you and your shit than they are about me.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I'll just sit back and take very grown up Catherine.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Even though he was short and bald so much I
- 12:15Speaker 1: could have gone back with.
- 12:17Speaker 2: So you didn't respond in the moment, which demonstrates your maturity.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I'll wait till I have a microphone and thousands of
- 12:23Speaker 2: people listening, and that's when I'll respond.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Love it. Yeah, I was going to say, it's not maturity,
- 12:28Speaker 3: it's more shocked.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Like when someone says that to you, you're a bit like,
- 12:31Speaker 4: what are you gonna do? You? You don't want to
- 12:33Speaker 4: stop and engage and have a conversation about how they are, Like,
- 12:36Speaker 4: just move on with my day.
- 12:38Speaker 3: You have to go home.
- 12:39Speaker 4: And live with the fact that you've just said something
- 12:42Speaker 4: really stupid to somebody who didn't deserve it.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel more sorry for you if you didn't
- 12:47Speaker 2: hang shit on me every week for how short are.
- 12:50Speaker 2: But I do get it about my surname Swindle and
- 12:53Speaker 2: who Swindle. It's funny. And I've worked in politics, and
- 12:55Speaker 2: I've worked in sales, and I've worked in public relations,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and I get that's funny. But it's like, is this
- 13:00Speaker 2: primary school like you? What is there nothing better to say.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I know, but that's the thing.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I mean.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I think it took my breath away because it's been
- 13:06Speaker 1: a long time since someone's hung shit on me because
- 13:08Speaker 1: of my height. Now back in school was big bird,
- 13:11Speaker 1: particularly after wearing my yellow suit the other night that
- 13:14Speaker 1: came up again high tower. You know, all that sort
- 13:19Speaker 1: of lameo stuff.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Can I just take this weather though, as a segue
- 13:27Speaker 2: and talk about my pain from the weekend? So I
- 13:31Speaker 2: was all ready to talk today. I spent last week
- 13:33Speaker 2: doing a whole lot of planning for my under elevens.
- 13:35Speaker 2: We were already going to have six, so still trying
- 13:37Speaker 2: to find a sub. But the other age groups all
- 13:40Speaker 2: play at the same time. The younger age groups play
- 13:42Speaker 2: somewhere else, so it's like, okay, we might have to
- 13:43Speaker 2: play with six. So I was planning to start short.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I was planning to drop the wing attack for the
- 13:49Speaker 2: beginning and see how we went, and then if we
- 13:52Speaker 2: were competitive, then I would drop the wing defense and
- 13:55Speaker 2: move more into attack. And I was interested in your
- 13:57Speaker 2: point of view on this. Now. The tragedy of this story,
- 14:00Speaker 2: obviously is that it bloody rained again in Sydney on
- 14:02Speaker 2: Saturday morning, and so we lost another game and we
- 14:07Speaker 2: didn't get to play. Liz, can you talk to your
- 14:09Speaker 2: mate elbow and see what the government is doing about
- 14:12Speaker 2: the Saturday morning rain that is riven in netball?
- 14:14Speaker 1: Please God if he's got that much.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But can you comment on my strategy, my thinking? If
- 14:20Speaker 2: I'm going in with six and I know nothing about
- 14:22Speaker 2: the other team, where do you shut yourself wing defense?
- 14:26Speaker 3: Now?
- 14:26Speaker 4: I reckon it's a good idea to start without a
- 14:28Speaker 4: wing attack for two reasons. One is that if you
- 14:31Speaker 4: don't know anything about the other team, you need to
- 14:33Speaker 4: look at what their attack line is like, and if
- 14:35Speaker 4: you can at least stop them from scoring, you limit
- 14:37Speaker 4: the damage.
- 14:38Speaker 1: That's such a defensive mindset.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Carry on, I know, but at eleven years of age, Like,
- 14:44Speaker 4: if you leave a wing defense with nothing to do,
- 14:46Speaker 4: with no play to mark, what's she going to do?
- 14:48Speaker 3: Like your opposition wing defense? Is she gonna like? If
- 14:51Speaker 3: you leave a wing attack unmarked at the other end,
- 14:53Speaker 3: they can do your damage? Right?
- 14:54Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 14:54Speaker 3: Damage could an unmarked wing defense to it does? So?
- 14:57Speaker 4: I get this increases the work rate of the goal
- 14:59Speaker 4: shoot in the goal attack and the wing attack. But
- 15:02Speaker 4: I reckon, unless you've got a wing defense who's really
- 15:05Speaker 4: switched on on the other team. She's not going to
- 15:07Speaker 4: do your damage like a wing attack, an undefended wing attack.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Could see.
- 15:10Speaker 1: My thinking would be that you get even center passes,
- 15:13Speaker 1: you've got to score off yours, and doesn't matter what
- 15:15Speaker 1: they do, but you have to score off yours and
- 15:18Speaker 1: then you're going to win the game or at least
- 15:19Speaker 1: draw it. So you have to have you punch up
- 15:21Speaker 1: the attack line to at least score. Who cares what
- 15:23Speaker 1: they do if they score off theirs, it's a drawn game,
- 15:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like it's rather the game
- 15:29Speaker 1: then go oh, let's worry about them, you guys.
- 15:32Speaker 2: So I understand, and I knew. I knew that that
- 15:34Speaker 2: is exactly what you would say. And I was thinking
- 15:36Speaker 2: about that last week and I just thought, first quarter,
- 15:38Speaker 2: I need to take their measure. I need to see
- 15:40Speaker 2: what we're dealing with here. And I can't let the
- 15:42Speaker 2: score line blow out in the first quarter and then
- 15:44Speaker 2: try to dig back on that with only six players.
- 15:47Speaker 1: West Coast faver did it not with six players? Well,
- 15:50Speaker 1: so you can come.
- 15:51Speaker 3: And they did have a super shot.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yeah right, all good points you makee ladies.
- 15:55Speaker 2: And they could even do the unique Polavii bounce off
- 15:58Speaker 2: the post if they want, which is something again and
- 16:00Speaker 2: I've banned in the under elevens, but thank you. It
- 16:02Speaker 2: is very nice as an under eleven's coach in a
- 16:05Speaker 2: suburban comp to be able to ask two best in
- 16:08Speaker 2: the business what to do, Elizabeth, did you have a
- 16:11Speaker 2: rain out?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Well, we didn't have a rain out, And like there's
- 16:14Speaker 4: a bit of a saying up here on the Northern Rivers,
- 16:16Speaker 4: if you don't play in the rain, then you won't
- 16:17Speaker 4: ever play.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Because it rained so much, we had lightning, so to
- 16:21Speaker 2: be fair, it wasn't just rain, it was lightning.
- 16:23Speaker 3: It turns out not as much as Sydney this year.
- 16:25Speaker 4: But my son had a rugby match on Friday night
- 16:28Speaker 4: at evans Head, so that's about half an hour down
- 16:30Speaker 4: the road, beautiful little coastal town at half an hour
- 16:33Speaker 4: from Ballina, and we went down there all pump six o'clock.
- 16:36Speaker 4: We're playing against Casino at evans Head and everyone's standing
- 16:38Speaker 4: around and we.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Got there and I was thinking to myself, you don't you.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Just know that something's not right, Like there's something a
- 16:43Speaker 4: bit and you don't know what it is. And so
- 16:46Speaker 4: I dropped Matthew and osin off and they went over
- 16:48Speaker 4: and I parked and I go to the car, and
- 16:50Speaker 4: I still could have put my finger on what the
- 16:52Speaker 4: problem was. And there was a blackout. The whole town
- 16:56Speaker 4: was blacked down, and no one knew why. And so
- 16:59Speaker 4: I've out of the car and I needed to they
- 17:01Speaker 4: had sort of half hour to get ready, and I
- 17:02Speaker 4: needed to go to the shop.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I thought I'd just go down to.
- 17:05Speaker 4: The little supermarket and just get some past so that
- 17:07Speaker 4: I was going to cook for dinner. And I walked
- 17:09Speaker 4: down to the supermarket. And as I walked down, and
- 17:13Speaker 4: I had this whole thing about what's wrong with this picture?
- 17:15Speaker 4: And I got to the supermarket and I realized the
- 17:17Speaker 4: supermarket was dark, but the doors were open, and that's
- 17:20Speaker 4: when I realized it was a back at. And I
- 17:21Speaker 4: looked in the supermarket and there were people with trolleys
- 17:25Speaker 4: full of food for a Friday night, just standing there
- 17:28Speaker 4: pay they couldn't pay.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Nothing was working.
- 17:31Speaker 4: There was one lady who was getting really agitated and
- 17:34Speaker 4: upset because she's like, I've got food for my kids.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I've got it. And I was like, I get that, understand.
- 17:38Speaker 4: This, and I civilized that I have this theory that
- 17:42Speaker 4: the veneers of civilization is very thin. We'd ching COVID
- 17:47Speaker 4: and I was there, going, what do you do in
- 17:49Speaker 4: that situation? So I backed away slowly and I thought later,
- 17:53Speaker 4: and I walked back past the bottle shop, and the
- 17:55Speaker 4: guy who owned the bottle shop was looking so sad,
- 17:57Speaker 4: and I said, mate, this is not good.
- 17:58Speaker 3: He goes Friday night. I'm like, I get that.
- 18:02Speaker 4: And then I walk back to the fields and WestEd
- 18:04Speaker 4: around for half an hour. I mean, the kids their
- 18:06Speaker 4: eight year old boys, right, They just and a couple
- 18:09Speaker 4: of girls on the team.
- 18:09Speaker 3: They were just rumbling around in the dark. They thought
- 18:11Speaker 3: it was great fun.
- 18:12Speaker 2: But and how long did it last?
- 18:15Speaker 4: I don't know, because we left it about in court
- 18:17Speaker 4: to seven because we weren't going to play.
- 18:19Speaker 2: We're heading back to Power Suckers the road to where
- 18:24Speaker 2: I'm lizzealous. I put my hands on Power, I sez it.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So yeah, there was a big netball game on the weekend.
- 18:36Speaker 2: There is another sporting contest going on. Something else. I know,
- 18:40Speaker 2: try Hard's right whatever. Some Cops, Super and Apple finals
- 18:43Speaker 2: are on, but you have to try to have some
- 18:45Speaker 2: giant parade along a river. So yeah, the Olympics are
- 18:48Speaker 2: on did anyone get up early to watch the opening ceremony?
- 18:51Speaker 1: No, I do love it, but I'm definitely not getting
- 18:54Speaker 1: up early to watch any of it. No, I didn't
- 18:57Speaker 1: know about that person.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Yeah, when it comes to the opening ceremony lights person.
- 19:02Speaker 2: One thing I do love though, is watching how they're
- 19:04Speaker 2: going to light the cauldron. So I think it was
- 19:08Speaker 2: like in was it nineteen ninety two in Barcelona where
- 19:11Speaker 2: they got the archer and this is that was like
- 19:14Speaker 2: that guy just had ice water running through his veins,
- 19:17Speaker 2: didn't It's like everybody is watching. You need to nail it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Surely though they had a little button they were switching
- 19:23Speaker 1: on for it to go up in case.
- 19:24Speaker 2: He fucked up. I would think so, But you would
- 19:27Speaker 2: still then see the footage of the arrow going somewhere
- 19:31Speaker 2: near it or not making it someone's whatever. So I've
- 19:36Speaker 2: done a bit of research about how they like the cauldron.
- 19:38Speaker 2: We obviously saw Kathy Freeman standing there with the torch
- 19:41Speaker 2: and then there was just a malfunctions, like why is
- 19:43Speaker 2: she standing there for so long? But it was nineteen
- 19:46Speaker 2: sixty eight was the very first time some genius and
- 19:49Speaker 2: this was for the Mexico Olympics. Some genius thought maybe
- 19:52Speaker 2: we could let a woman like the cauldron. So well,
- 19:56Speaker 2: ladies near fire. That's a bit dangerous, isn't it. Fellers.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Up until then, it had always just been a bloke
- 20:02Speaker 2: running in holding a torch, lighting the torch. Beijing two
- 20:05Speaker 2: thousand and eight they had the guy on the high wire,
- 20:07Speaker 2: remember that coming through? Flying through? Was it Nicki Webster
- 20:11Speaker 2: who was on the high wire at the Sydney two
- 20:13Speaker 2: thousand Yeah, and then they had a balloon on the weekend,
- 20:18Speaker 2: which I thought was good, but I think Brisbane needs
- 20:21Speaker 2: to just take it up a notch and maybe we
- 20:24Speaker 2: could offer some suggestions for them.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Well, you know, I actually got to spend some time
- 20:29Speaker 4: with some of the organizers of the Sydney Games a
- 20:32Speaker 4: few years ago, and you know when Pathy Framan was
- 20:35Speaker 4: standing there with the torch in the air, and she
- 20:38Speaker 4: stood there for an eternity because there was a malfunction.
- 20:41Speaker 4: They were literally down to vapors in her tork.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Oh god, So there was this whole moment of what
- 20:49Speaker 3: are we going to do?
- 20:49Speaker 4: And then it all the mechanism kicked off and off
- 20:52Speaker 4: they went because she lit it and then it started
- 20:54Speaker 4: to move and then it stopped. There was only vapors
- 20:56Speaker 4: left in the things, so it wasn't like they could
- 20:58Speaker 4: get another torch like she brought in this and then
- 21:00Speaker 4: it was moving up and then to get to the
- 21:02Speaker 4: top to click in to get more gas to.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Keep going or whatever.
- 21:05Speaker 1: She had a lighter in a pocket.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Well, fortunately in two thousand there were more smokers around. Nowadays,
- 21:10Speaker 2: you'd be in trouble. I've got a vape. Can I
- 21:12Speaker 2: use that to like the Olympic.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I maybe for Brisbane.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Maybe if we push for netball to be an Olympic sport,
- 21:22Speaker 4: then the great Vicky Wilson, who was a goal shooter
- 21:24Speaker 4: from Queensland, maybe she could like shoot a goal and
- 21:28Speaker 4: the Olympic cauldron could be like a netball ring because
- 21:31Speaker 4: you know now that we've seen it in like it's
- 21:33Speaker 4: in a hot air balloon, right, So it doesn't.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Have to be in a beautiful big cauldron.
- 21:37Speaker 4: It could be a beautiful big netball ring and something
- 21:40Speaker 4: like that.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Nice.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Do you know what we'd have to do though, is
- 21:42Speaker 1: what was the massive kangaroo that was at the Brisbane Matilda? Yeah?
- 21:48Speaker 1: Where was she?
- 21:49Speaker 2: Still somewhere in Queensland? I will look that up. I
- 21:52Speaker 2: do I remember reading about this not so long ago.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Remember when it winked and everyone went, oh my god,
- 21:56Speaker 2: it's the future.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 22:01Speaker 4: We need to get right of nine at those Commonwealth Games,
- 22:04Speaker 4: and I remember everyone being so excited, like everyone came
- 22:07Speaker 4: to school.
- 22:07Speaker 3: She weep.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I went up to Brisbane last week. It was the
- 22:10Speaker 2: funeral of one of my very good friends fathers, and
- 22:13Speaker 2: she was actually in that opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Game.
- 22:16Speaker 2: So nineteen eighty two, we were twelve thirteen and she
- 22:18Speaker 2: had this really daggy best and less tracksuit that she wore.
- 22:22Speaker 2: But it was like, oh, I'm super jealous just running around.
- 22:27Speaker 2: You know, they didn't do terrifically much. It's a whole
- 22:29Speaker 2: lot more sophisticated now, so then it was just sort
- 22:31Speaker 2: of running out. But yeah, that was It was hard
- 22:35Speaker 2: for me to get over that jealousy and maintain a friendship.
- 22:38Speaker 2: But I think it shows maturity that I.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Have, she says, still talking about it with me.
- 22:43Speaker 2: My son when he was little used to like to
- 22:45Speaker 2: get the magnifying glass and the sun and set fire
- 22:48Speaker 2: to leave some things. So maybe we could do something
- 22:51Speaker 2: like that in Brisbane, just playing on the fact that
- 22:53Speaker 2: it is hotter than the sun. In Brisbane for a
- 22:55Speaker 2: lot of the you're beautiful right now, but in summer
- 22:57Speaker 2: it's unbearable. So a giant mag a fine glass and
- 23:01Speaker 2: a pile.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Of leaves and Lewis's arson tendencies have they increased?
- 23:05Speaker 2: Well, he still likes to light candles put them out
- 23:09Speaker 2: and you know, wants to have candles in his room.
- 23:10Speaker 2: It's no way.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yeah right, Well, now doesn't Brisbane have river fire where
- 23:14Speaker 4: they do fire works and stuff along the bridge? Now
- 23:16Speaker 4: they've seen the whole Germany along the stand in Paris.
- 23:20Speaker 4: I don't know, who knows, Maybe there'll be something along those.
- 23:22Speaker 1: What do we think about the athletes not doing the
- 23:25Speaker 1: lap of the stadium?
- 23:26Speaker 3: I felt like they were yeah.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I love the change up and
- 23:31Speaker 1: if it was a beautiful sunny night or clear night,
- 23:33Speaker 1: it would have been magic. But you still want to
- 23:35Speaker 1: see them, you know. I felt sorry for Jess Fox
- 23:37Speaker 1: he finally gets to carry the fly.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and it's like stand there. Well it's a
- 23:41Speaker 2: bit like Rose and Jack on the front of the bow,
- 23:43Speaker 2: isn't it. I'm flying?
- 23:45Speaker 3: Did you see that TEAMGB did that? They had their
- 23:48Speaker 3: male flag bear out the front.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Being did they.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Fantastic.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Oh that was very clever.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I don't know what are you I mean, Catherine, you've
- 23:57Speaker 4: walked in opening ceremonies for the Coble Off before.
- 24:00Speaker 3: There is something so magical about walking into a stadium
- 24:04Speaker 3: that is a bit time full of people, that is
- 24:08Speaker 3: buzzing with energy and just.
- 24:10Speaker 4: You know when you look up and you go, oh
- 24:12Speaker 4: my god, there are people to the sky. This is
- 24:14Speaker 4: amazing And just like doing that four hundred meters, it's
- 24:17Speaker 4: the quickest four hundred meters that you're doing in your
- 24:19Speaker 4: mind when if you.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Have Kathy Framan that one faster.
- 24:22Speaker 4: True, true, But you know, when you're an athlete, it
- 24:25Speaker 4: just it's over in a blink.
- 24:26Speaker 3: And I did one. I'd love to speak to the athletes,
- 24:28Speaker 3: you know, when they get home about whether was it
- 24:30Speaker 3: still magical?
- 24:31Speaker 4: Was it magical because they're on a boat and I
- 24:33Speaker 4: don't know, Like I love that they tried to change
- 24:35Speaker 4: it up and do something different, but I like love
- 24:37Speaker 4: to get an athlete in an honest moment, Yes, what's better?
- 24:41Speaker 2: Was it the world's most boring booze cruise? Because it's like, well,
- 24:44Speaker 2: I'm going to get to bed early.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Yeah, No one's having booze.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Anyway, the Olympics are on for the next two weeks.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Do not say please, but we need to talk about netball?
- 24:57Speaker 1: Which part about the game that just was on, about
- 25:00Speaker 1: the Queensland fire beds and all that's happening up there,
- 25:03Speaker 1: or about the Grand Final?
- 25:05Speaker 3: Where do we stop?
- 25:06Speaker 2: Well, I think we should talk about the weekend. Should
- 25:07Speaker 2: the weekend just gone? How good?
- 25:10Speaker 1: Well, it was good because it was the start of
- 25:12Speaker 1: the game. I thought West Coast fever, They're in complete
- 25:15Speaker 1: control of this, They're going to run away with this game.
- 25:17Speaker 1: And then god knows what samonment in A said at
- 25:20Speaker 1: halftime in the change room. Would love to have been
- 25:21Speaker 1: a fly on the wall. But the Vixens came out
- 25:24Speaker 1: a different side, altogether complete control of the second half,
- 25:28Speaker 1: so much so they are up by twelve with three
- 25:31Speaker 1: minutes to go. Three minutes that's not a last time.
- 25:34Speaker 2: That a thrilling end. I just I think it was
- 25:38Speaker 2: the right end. I was pleased to see it as
- 25:40Speaker 2: close as it was. But I think that the Vixen's
- 25:43Speaker 2: well and truly won that.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Game, and they came out with a real intent to
- 25:47Speaker 1: put pressure on the scoreboard. You could see them going
- 25:50Speaker 1: for the super shot right from the very get go,
- 25:53Speaker 1: and I reckon they're going to have to do that
- 25:55Speaker 1: against the Adelaide Thunderbirds, particularly in light of the margin
- 25:58Speaker 1: last time, and mentally, they've got to do something different.
- 26:01Speaker 1: I think if they go in with a similar game
- 26:04Speaker 1: plan to what they had in that semi final where
- 26:06Speaker 1: they got flogged, they're going to be in trouble. But
- 26:08Speaker 1: if they go in with just high risk, high reward
- 26:11Speaker 1: kind of mindset. It's a grand Final, there's nothing to
- 26:14Speaker 1: lose apart from the Grand Final, they'll be in better shape.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:18Speaker 4: I think that's certainly from an attacking point of view.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I reckon defensively, they've hit on what you have to
- 26:23Speaker 4: do to beat a tall Jamaican shooter like you go
- 26:25Speaker 4: this week told Jamaican s Tutera. Next week told Jamaican shooter,
- 26:28Speaker 4: I reckon.
- 26:30Speaker 1: In your worlds Liz, what was that? Then they took risks.
- 26:33Speaker 4: And cut off supply, so they frustrated Janille so you
- 26:36Speaker 4: could see her coming.
- 26:37Speaker 2: She was frustrated to her higher up.
- 26:39Speaker 4: In the circle coming out because the bull wasn't coming
- 26:42Speaker 4: down to her as fast as she would have liked.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I thought Kate Eddie in particular was just magnificent.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Kate Eddie the wing defense.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Interesting, yes, yeah, I mean I'm a fan of wing defenders, Carolyn,
- 26:53Speaker 4: so yeah, but I thought she was great. I thought
- 26:55Speaker 4: Rudy Ellis did a great job. Wardens and copples of
- 26:58Speaker 4: my heart to see and Ellis doing a great job.
- 27:00Speaker 4: But then I think stepped.
- 27:01Speaker 3: From the switch to m Manick Mannix. Yeah, paid dividends.
- 27:05Speaker 4: It was like Rudy Ellis got out there and did
- 27:07Speaker 4: a job and wore Janil Fowler down, and then m
- 27:11Speaker 4: Mannix came on and just just had the extra spark
- 27:14Speaker 4: to start to pick up ball.
- 27:15Speaker 3: But you know, the Workdoun out in front of her
- 27:17Speaker 3: was good. And I think you.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Heard Simone saying in one of the time outs that
- 27:22Speaker 4: might've been in the third quarter, she said to them,
- 27:23Speaker 4: you've got to go for the ball, so you can
- 27:25Speaker 4: have these defensive structures set up. And you could see
- 27:27Speaker 4: them trying to get Fever to throw a cross court ball.
- 27:30Speaker 4: But the Vixen's were setting it up, but they weren't
- 27:34Speaker 4: having a crack. And then when they started to have
- 27:35Speaker 4: a crack, they started to build pressure. Even if they
- 27:38Speaker 4: didn't get the intersect. The attack has heard them coming
- 27:40Speaker 4: and they were a little bit off balance and then
- 27:41Speaker 4: then a bit rushed with their decision making for the
- 27:43Speaker 4: next time. So I think that was really impressive work,
- 27:48Speaker 4: like great coaching from simone, pulling the right things at
- 27:50Speaker 4: the right time. And you know you're talking about taking
- 27:52Speaker 4: a risk in attack, Catherine. I also reckon they've got
- 27:54Speaker 4: to take risks a bit up the court in defense
- 27:56Speaker 4: and even if they don't get the ball, they build
- 27:58Speaker 4: that pressure.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I agree with you and defense stuff, but I also
- 28:01Speaker 1: felt like they roughed her up. It was a very
- 28:05Speaker 1: physical They deliberately went in there to get under a
- 28:09Speaker 1: skin and rough her up. You could see that. It
- 28:11Speaker 1: was very very physical.
- 28:13Speaker 3: You know. It's interesting though I couldn't see it on Telly.
- 28:15Speaker 4: You can see the reactions from fouling them out on
- 28:18Speaker 4: the telly, but you couldn't. You can't see what's going
- 28:20Speaker 4: on when you're not that close to it. I mean,
- 28:22Speaker 4: you guys would have seen it. But it's interesting, isn't it.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Something that's getting a lot of talk on not just
- 28:27Speaker 2: our Facebook group No Dribble podcast please join us, but
- 28:30Speaker 2: other netball groups is the discussion about why the defender
- 28:34Speaker 2: seems to get pinged so often when the shooter steps
- 28:37Speaker 2: into the defender and the defender is holding the ground.
- 28:39Speaker 2: And we saw that with Joe Weston, didn't she that?
- 28:40Speaker 2: And you guys were talking about this a lot that
- 28:43Speaker 2: she had a hand right up, she had to stand
- 28:45Speaker 2: perfectly still and she slightly moved her fingers forward and
- 28:49Speaker 2: then she was called for the penalty. It's so interesting
- 28:52Speaker 2: how much of the onus is on the gold offence
- 28:55Speaker 2: and the goalkeeper to be absolutely perfect in that moment
- 28:59Speaker 2: and all the and if it seems to go to
- 29:00Speaker 2: the shot benefit, the doubt seems to go to the
- 29:02Speaker 2: shooter in that instance.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I still don't know why fellon Emmard
- 29:06Speaker 1: continues to do it. I mean, she can do it
- 29:08Speaker 1: because she's so much taller than everybody else, so ultimately
- 29:11Speaker 1: the defense over the SHOT's not going to impact it.
- 29:14Speaker 1: But it was a really interesting point, and Bianca Chatfield
- 29:17Speaker 1: was in commentary with me and she was just saying,
- 29:19Speaker 1: as you say, the fingers and then we played we
- 29:20Speaker 1: did a replane. It was literally because at that point
- 29:24Speaker 1: you're defending and you're clear of the ball, but as
- 29:26Speaker 1: soon as you touch it, you've contacted the ball. It's
- 29:29Speaker 1: a ticky touch with stupid stuff like that, but I
- 29:32Speaker 1: agree because some of them I think should definitely go
- 29:34Speaker 1: against the shooter, but it doesn't ever seem to be
- 29:37Speaker 1: the way, and Liz would forever say it should always
- 29:40Speaker 1: go against the goal shooter.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I would say that being goal defense or goalkeeper must
- 29:46Speaker 2: require the most emotional management of any position on the court,
- 29:51Speaker 2: because you are so constantly called out for penalties and
- 29:54Speaker 2: the things, and it's like you cannot afford to get
- 29:57Speaker 2: angry in that situation. But it's like it is always
- 29:59Speaker 2: the goal people and the gold offence.
- 30:01Speaker 4: I got angry, but you have to actually you have
- 30:05Speaker 4: to focus on getting on with the next thing, right
- 30:07Speaker 4: if you get so caught up in that, and you
- 30:09Speaker 4: can see it when players like do you get caught
- 30:11Speaker 4: up here and you think, oh, well you're not being effective, right,
- 30:14Speaker 4: You've just got it. Okay, I've got caught up. Then
- 30:17Speaker 4: how do I adjust? How do I do it differently?
- 30:19Speaker 4: How do I make sure I don't sort of draw
- 30:21Speaker 4: the whistle next time?
- 30:22Speaker 3: It just happens?
- 30:22Speaker 1: Right?
- 30:22Speaker 4: But then the other the emotional management at the other
- 30:24Speaker 4: end of the court, just to block everything out because
- 30:28Speaker 4: three seconds is a long time to stand there, I
- 30:30Speaker 4: think think about shooting a goal, like you just have
- 30:33Speaker 4: to be so strong mentally at either end of the
- 30:35Speaker 4: court to just be able to go right block.
- 30:37Speaker 3: It all out and get on with the next thing.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Okay, let me ask you a question straight away. Let's
- 30:41Speaker 1: fast forward to this Grand Final. Who wins it?
- 30:45Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm not even going to try. It's I
- 30:47Speaker 2: didn't know. I know you so sorry.
- 30:49Speaker 1: You're jigs people, But like no one at this point
- 30:52Speaker 1: would say the Vicent's would they? I don't think after
- 30:55Speaker 1: the last performance against the Thunderbirds, but having seen them
- 30:58Speaker 1: on the weekend, would you change she's care?
- 31:01Speaker 2: Austin looked convincing on the weekend, didn't she She looks
- 31:04Speaker 2: like someone who knows what her job is and wants it.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I don't know that she had on her a whole heap.
- 31:11Speaker 1: She was good because I don't think she was really
- 31:13Speaker 1: put under that amount of passion, which will be different
- 31:16Speaker 1: on the weekend. It's a very very hard one to tell.
- 31:18Speaker 1: All I want, obviously, is a close game, super close
- 31:21Speaker 1: extra time. It'd be great, thanks guys, you could thought
- 31:25Speaker 1: that out. That'd be what we want.
- 31:26Speaker 2: So Liz, would you like to venture a tip for
- 31:29Speaker 2: the weekend.
- 31:30Speaker 3: N if you two aren't going there, I'm like, well, I.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Think I think Path has gone there, and I have
- 31:36Speaker 2: I've like tipped one thing this this in twelve episodes
- 31:40Speaker 2: that we've had, so.
- 31:40Speaker 1: I just had nothing to do with that ball.
- 31:42Speaker 2: It's so unfair to the fans for me to tip anyone.
- 31:46Speaker 4: So based on the semi final, it's hard to go
- 31:48Speaker 4: past the taburs, right, But I just the Vixen show
- 31:53Speaker 4: the mental strength to bounce back from that lost and playlight.
- 31:56Speaker 4: They did on the weekend super impressive. So yeah, maybe
- 31:59Speaker 4: t Bird, but I just want a close game game.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So we've also put my adelaide Thunderbirds winning the whole
- 32:07Speaker 1: thing forward, haven't we like? Because we remember we talked
- 32:12Speaker 1: about me in the end of the rounds.
- 32:13Speaker 2: But I said, you can't have it both ways. I've
- 32:15Speaker 2: already said I was wrong and that it was a preliminary.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Then that's fine. I said, I'm happy to stick with
- 32:22Speaker 1: them to Okay, all right, No, I don't want to
- 32:24Speaker 1: wear a scratch and you're still.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Going to wear a spongey. Actually, this is what I
- 32:26Speaker 2: would like to see. I find it very hard to
- 32:28Speaker 2: tell all the Vixens apart, and we talked about Hailey
- 32:31Speaker 2: Rasso and the Matilda's wearing the ribbon in her hair
- 32:33Speaker 2: for her grandmother, Joe Mannix and Rudy Ellis. It's like,
- 32:35Speaker 2: who is who? Hannah Mundy and Kate Maloney? Who is who?
- 32:39Speaker 2: It's like, can you just change up your outfits a
- 32:41Speaker 2: little bit?
- 32:42Speaker 3: Joe Western and Rudy Ellis?
- 32:44Speaker 2: Is that what I said?
- 32:44Speaker 3: No?
- 32:44Speaker 2: Sorry, yes, that's what.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Put that combination of those two Oh my god, that would.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Be the very blonde platte yes, I find that hard
- 32:55Speaker 2: and the Hannah Monday Kate Maloney have the same hairstyle.
- 32:58Speaker 2: It's like, I just come on, can someone, maybe someone
- 33:01Speaker 2: go and get a perm this week and dye their God?
- 33:04Speaker 1: Can you imagine? I wouldn't be able to talk about
- 33:08Speaker 1: anything else.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Well.
- 33:10Speaker 2: One of the things that this was one of the
- 33:12Speaker 2: things during the week was there was a question for
- 33:14Speaker 2: kath on the Facebook page about who decides who gets
- 33:17Speaker 2: the player of the game? Is it commentary? And it
- 33:19Speaker 2: wasn't really clear who it was. But then two of
- 33:22Speaker 2: our dribblers, Leanne Hopkins and Christy Collins demonstrated some great
- 33:25Speaker 2: faith in my technical abilities and asked me to put
- 33:27Speaker 2: up a poll as to who the Dribblers would have
- 33:30Speaker 2: as the player of the match. So I did this
- 33:32Speaker 2: right this time. I've set it up so that you
- 33:34Speaker 2: could only vote once, not every single time, and I
- 33:36Speaker 2: said I was going to take this down. Thirty minutes
- 33:38Speaker 2: after the end of the game, our Dribblers declared there
- 33:42Speaker 2: were eleven players who received votes. Eleven out of the
- 33:44Speaker 2: twenty received votes the runaway winner and this was early
- 33:49Speaker 2: in the match too, so not just something they looked
- 33:51Speaker 2: at at the end and when I'm going to vote
- 33:52Speaker 2: for that. The runaway winner was Kira Austin as the
- 33:55Speaker 2: player of the match and Janille fallon Emmart and Rudy
- 34:00Speaker 2: ellis worth runner.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Because a lot of the time we do pick it
- 34:04Speaker 1: off from the NISS and their points, okay, because in
- 34:06Speaker 1: some games it's hard to tell, isn't it. Like some
- 34:10Speaker 1: people like Liz Watson, for instance, is so good every
- 34:13Speaker 1: week and does her job every week, but she doesn't
- 34:15Speaker 1: necessarily stand out. So it's sometimes you have to kind
- 34:18Speaker 1: of have a look at the NISS and net points
- 34:19Speaker 1: to see, really who's had a good game. But that
- 34:22Speaker 1: game she was about fourth or fifth in the nest
- 34:24Speaker 1: and their points interesting, but she was a standout, you know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: performing in that game.
- 34:30Speaker 4: And so I've done in the in the past, whenever
- 34:33Speaker 4: I've done the player of the match, you know, years ago.
- 34:36Speaker 3: So Catherine, it's not commentators.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Who do it now, No, it is. We kind of
- 34:40Speaker 1: have a discussion with our ma. It's just the other
- 34:43Speaker 1: commentators unless it's a unless it's a hard one, they
- 34:47Speaker 1: won't come to us because it's pretty obviously it is.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Or when I say, oh, I think you're Austin's a
- 34:52Speaker 1: player of the match for the moment, they might just
- 34:53Speaker 1: run with that. So I don't know.
- 34:55Speaker 3: But one of the things that I used to do
- 34:57Speaker 3: was I would do a three to two in one
- 34:59Speaker 3: at the end of every quarter.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Oh that's smart.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Then you don't get to the end the match and go.
- 35:04Speaker 4: They had an awesome last quarter, but they went missing
- 35:07Speaker 4: for the first three quarters, but they just stood up
- 35:09Speaker 4: at the end.
- 35:10Speaker 3: So yeah, I like that.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I'm going to steal that. Thanks Elia, way to give
- 35:14Speaker 1: me the tips and the last game.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Of the year.
- 35:21Speaker 2: There's so much netbor to talk about. There was some
- 35:23Speaker 2: other stuff that we wanted to talk about this week,
- 35:24Speaker 2: Kath There's been a lot of talk on. So obviously
- 35:27Speaker 2: the Firebirds made an announcement that Danelle Wallom and Remy Carmo
- 35:30Speaker 2: are not going to be offered contracts next year. There's
- 35:33Speaker 2: questions about, well, who's making these decisions because it's only
- 35:36Speaker 2: been subsequent to that that they have announced their new coach.
- 35:40Speaker 2: I'm really interested in the player contracting stuff. I don't
- 35:42Speaker 2: think we've got time to unpack it this week, but
- 35:44Speaker 2: can you explain that to us all next week so
- 35:46Speaker 2: I can on it. Great, fantastic.
- 35:49Speaker 1: It's shorter than you think. People will talk about it, for.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Sure, fabulous. We could talk all day. But obviously one
- 35:56Speaker 2: of the most important things we do every week is
- 35:58Speaker 2: our Win Beneath our Wings nomination. This is where people
- 36:01Speaker 2: out in clubland nominate other people in clubland who are
- 36:05Speaker 2: keeping our game alive at the community level. Obviously, the
- 36:09Speaker 2: prize is worth more than dollars and cents can measure,
- 36:14Speaker 2: and we have had Win Beneath our wingers covering our country.
- 36:18Speaker 2: But there's two glaring absences. Cath do we have a
- 36:22Speaker 2: nomination for Win Beneath our Wings this week?
- 36:24Speaker 1: Where do I need to cover? There's two absences at
- 36:27Speaker 1: the moment.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Well, Obviously we have legends all over this great nation
- 36:30Speaker 2: of ours, but we haven't yet identified a specific legend
- 36:35Speaker 2: in the act or Tasmania.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Oh what a shame. I've got a tesman E.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Tazsy punching above its weight this week with Arian Titmus
- 36:45Speaker 2: and who is our win beneath our winger. Well, it's
- 36:47Speaker 2: come from Liz Thomas and she'd like to nominate Judy.
- 36:50Speaker 1: It's Judy Headlam everyone from Esknitball Club in lawn System Cystein.
- 36:55Speaker 1: She says, there isn't a role the duty hasn't been
- 36:57Speaker 1: involved in at the club. She's coached umpired score, she's
- 37:00Speaker 1: been on the committee, even had roles within the Tasmanian
- 37:04Speaker 1: netball and she's amazing.
- 37:07Speaker 2: She said.
- 37:07Speaker 1: She does have short hair though, so she's not sure
- 37:09Speaker 1: the scrunchy will work. But I have I have no
- 37:12Speaker 1: told you you put it around, you put it around
- 37:14Speaker 1: your rears stick and I don't know. I mean.
- 37:20Speaker 2: You could wrap it around your water bottle or a
- 37:22Speaker 2: wine bottle.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Absolutely, So congratulations Judy Headler, you are amazing and thank
- 37:27Speaker 1: you Liz for your nomination. You've got a twenty five
- 37:29Speaker 1: dollar Printhy wine vouch.
- 37:30Speaker 2: You fantastic and Judy, we will send you our money.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Can't buy No Dribble scrunchy handmade by the No Dribble team.
- 37:38Speaker 2: But that's all we've got time for this week. But
- 37:41Speaker 2: what does happen is the fun goes on from episode
- 37:44Speaker 2: to episode. So firstly, if you enjoy this podcast, please
- 37:47Speaker 2: share it with a friend, Please let them know we
- 37:49Speaker 2: would love to have more people joining our army of dribblers.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Join us on the Facebook page No Dribble Podcast, Join

- 37:59Speaker 2: Yes very much, thank you, and if we have any
- 38:01Speaker 2: further nominations for Beneath our Wings please we'd love to
- 38:05Speaker 2: have a voice note because we do love to hear
- 38:06Speaker 2: your voices and that's easiest done through Instagram.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Act your lagging, come on.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Act, let's get it now.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Act.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Oh fantastic. It's like a political advertising campaign brought to
- 38:20Speaker 2: you endorsed by Elizabeth Ellis, chair of Netball Astrap.
- 38:23Speaker 1: You've got to say it way faster than that.
- 38:26Speaker 2: This message advice containing this message may not play you.
- 38:33Speaker 2: On that note, I don't think one game of super
- 38:36Speaker 2: Netball a weekend is enough. But We're getting down to
- 38:39Speaker 2: facing the prospect of having zero, so let's really milk
- 38:42Speaker 2: the life out of this last weekend of the super
- 38:44Speaker 2: netful season. And good luck to all the fans of
- 38:48Speaker 2: the Vixens and the Thunderbirds and let's just type for
- 38:50Speaker 2: a cracking game.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Can't wait in Radelaide, Bring on the fruit chops, prove
- 38:55Speaker 1: through chotsos.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Okay, I'm Caroline Swindell past.
- 39:01Speaker 1: God Bye bye everyone, Happy GF week.
