- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 37 — can you believe it? Lucas: Feels like just yesterday we were learning the days of the week. Today, we're building on that with another time topic. Luna: Ooh, are we finally learning how to say the months in Cantonese? Lucas: Exactly! The months of the year. Let's start with the first three. January is 一月. Luna: 一月. Lucas: Great. February is 二月. Luna: 二月. Oh, that's like 'two' plus 'month' — because 二 means two, right? Lucas: Exactly! 月 means month. So 一月 is month one, 二月 is month two. Three is 三月. Luna: 三月. So March is month three. That makes so much sense. Lucas: Right? Now, let's do the next set: April, May, June. April is 四月. Luna: 四月. Lucas: May is 五月. Luna: 五月. That sounds like 'ng' — is that the number five? Lucas: Yeah! 五 is five. And June is 六月. Luna: 六月. So June is month six. I'm already thinking: if today is June, I can say 呢個月係六月. Lucas: Whoa, you're ahead of me! That's actually a perfect sentence. Let's break it down: 呢個 means 'this', 月 means 'month', 係 means 'is', and 六月 is June. So 呢個月係六月 means 'This month is June.' Let's hear it from you. Luna: 呢個月係六月. Lucas: Beautiful. Now let's move on to July, August, September: July is 七月. Luna: 七月. Lucas: August is 八月. Luna: 八月. That one is super short — just 'baat'. Lucas: Yeah, 八 is eight. And September is 九月. Luna: 九月. Lucas: Now the last three: October is 十月. Luna: 十月. Lucas: November is 十一月. Luna: 十一月. That's month eleven, so it's like 十一 plus 月. Lucas: Exactly. And December is 十二月. Luna: 十二月. So December is month twelve. I love how logical this is. Lucas: Let's do a quick practice. I'll say a month in English, you say it in Cantonese. January? Luna: 一月. Lucas: June? Luna: 六月. Lucas: December? Luna: 十二月. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's use the sentence. Imagine it's July. How would you say 'This month is July'? Luna: 呢個月係七月. Lucas: Awesome. What about 'This month is October'? Luna: 呢個月係十月. Lucas: You're nailing it. So now you can talk about the current month. Let's do a little dialogue. I'll ask you: 呢個月係幾月呀? — that means 'What month is this?' But we haven't learned 幾 yet. So for now, I'll just say the month in English. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: It's March. Luna: 呢個月係三月. Lucas: Excellent. Now, let's review all the months one more time. Repeat after me: 一月, 二月, 三月, 四月, 五月, 六月, 七月, 八月, 九月, 十月, 十一月, 十二月. Luna: 一月, 二月, 三月, 四月, 五月, 六月, 七月, 八月, 九月, 十月, 十一月, 十二月. Lucas: Wow, that was perfect. You've got it. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel like I can actually keep track of months now. Lucas: That's the goal. So, you can use these to talk about your birthday month, holidays, anything. For example, my birthday is in September — 我嘅生日係九月. Luna: Oh, cool. My birthday is in May — 我嘅生日係五月. Lucas: Love it. See how easy that is? Just plug in the month. Luna: Yeah. And since we learned 琴日 and 今日 before, I could say 'Yesterday was May' — 琴日係五月. But we'll practice past tense another time. Lucas: Right. For now, focus on the months and the phrase 呢個月係. Practice saying the current month every day. Luna: Great tip. Alright, let's do a final round. I'll say the number, you say the month. One? Lucas: 一月. Luna: Six? Lucas: 六月. Luna: Twelve? Lucas: 十二月. Luna: That's all twelve. I'm feeling confident. Lucas: Awesome. Remember to keep practicing with Fexingo — we've got more episodes coming your way. Keep up the great work, and we'll see you next time! Luna: Bye bye! 拜拜!
