- 0:06Dr. Slaton Live: Hello, welcome to the Brain's Body Podcast.
- 0:19Dr. Slaton Live: I'm Dr Christopher Kevin Slaton, H uman Learning Consultant with the Progressive Investing Institute of Focus Learning, and today we're talking through the crises, the learning crises.
- 0:32Dr. Slaton Live: But I want to give you a sense of how and why we talk to the brain.
- 0:38Dr. Slaton Live: Because when you're upset and it's difficult for you to process the emotion that's moving through you and that voice that you hear, that you feel and that you have to act through is louder than your ability to comprehend the discipline to focus.
- 1:05Dr. Slaton Live: A sense of feel for self through Talking to the brain is a practice, because you have to reach self first in order to reach other people.
- 1:17Dr. Slaton Live: I say it like this because I know that I, as a human being, am not perfect, but one thing I do realize every day is that I have to forgive myself in order to forgive others, because I got to recognize my sense of feel for self and how I may have impacted the noise and sounds that are moving through me that I would like other people to recognize as they're moving through them.
- 1:47Dr. Slaton Live: And we talk about sense of receive past functions and open up a clear path to dialogue when there's a block, because there's emotion or there's thought and there's reflection that you just can't get rid of and I call those mood states.
- 2:06Dr. Slaton Live: States of mind, you know, and the way it moves you, because it's full of things that excite you negatively or positively, because it's happening and you're trying to understand why it's happening.
- 2:27Dr. Slaton Live: But you got to remember to calm yourself down, to cool off, to collect that sense of feel for self.
- 2:38Dr. Slaton Live: Now I'm saying those words and moving through me, but what made it clear is when I was a young kid, coming up in East Oakland, California, and James Brown and his song about image, ego, self worth.
- 2:56Dr. Slaton Live: You know, who am I, what am I?
- 2:59Dr. Slaton Live: How can I survive when I'm experiencing a day to day basis and what is that I'm experiencing?
- 3:06Dr. Slaton Live: I just know that in my community I felt different, so I felt in touch, I felt a higher sense of feel for myself.
- 3:17Dr. Slaton Live: But I began to realize it as I listened to the lyrics say it loud, say what loud.
- 3:24Dr. Slaton Live: Who are you?
- 3:25Dr. Slaton Live: What are you?
- 3:26Dr. Slaton Live: Why are you?
- 3:26Dr. Slaton Live: In a climate of disproportionate disadvantages, and so it worked on me and I couldn't let that go, because he was talking to the brain.
- 3:42Dr. Slaton Live: In my interpretation as an academic is that he was trying to get me and I'm talking about personally, self-first, before I relate to anyone else.
- 3:53Dr. Slaton Live: Get me to understand how to listen, to observe.
- 3:59Dr. Slaton Live: Thank you to learn how to help me lead me through the crises of self, because self has to be dealt with when you're at a disadvantage and people are blowing smoke and you're confused because you don't know what's real and what isn't real, because you're at a disadvantage because of your race, ethnicity, sex and so forth and so on, and you got to figure these things out.
- 4:27Dr. Slaton Live: But there's a base that you work from.
- 4:29Dr. Slaton Live: That's that sense of feel for who you are and what you are.
- 4:33Dr. Slaton Live: And so brain talk is understanding that when you make contact and you interact, there's voices taking place, whether it's your body, your brain or your senses that are transmitting information through you that you have to be balance out.
- 4:53Dr. Slaton Live: And I call that the emotion, the thought and the reflection, because it's happening and it's happening and it's not going to stop because you're living through it.
- 5:05Dr. Slaton Live: But what are you really saying?
- 5:07Dr. Slaton Live: What are you really experiencing?
- 5:09Dr. Slaton Live: Right, I'm saying that you experience life from the inside out.
- 5:13Dr. Slaton Live: So when those words hit me, they stayed with me and from that point on, I didn't know that I was studying the brain.
- 5:22Dr. Slaton Live: I didn't know that I was studying, ssnse the receive path functioning, I just knew that I was listening, and I was observing the contact interaction that was going on around me and I could see the hurt.
- 5:37Dr. Slaton Live: I could see the pain moving all around me, agreements filled and so forth and so on.
- 5:44Dr. Slaton Live: I'm saying to you that brain talk originated from my earliest phases of childhood and we're not understood until later on.
- 5:55Dr. Slaton Live: But in the discovery process and the research process, those words continue to resonate with me.
- 6:06Dr. Slaton Live: Who are you?
- 6:06Dr. Slaton Live: What are you?
- 6:07Dr. Slaton Live: Because it's very significant, because I can tell you, last time I was at a James Brown concert in Oakland, California, he said I'd never come back because on black on black crime.
- 6:19Dr. Slaton Live: He said he would never come back.
- 6:20Dr. Slaton Live: He never came back.
- 6:22Dr. Slaton Live: He's talking to my brain.
- 6:24Dr. Slaton Live: What was he saying about that?
- 6:25Dr. Slaton Live: Who are you?
- 6:27Dr. Slaton Live: Do you understand that you're better than this?
- 6:31Dr. Slaton Live: Well, that goes beyond just talking about your image to realizing that there's a higher sense of feel that you need to tap into.
- 6:42Dr. Slaton Live: That's what we're talking about when we talk about the brain's body.
- 6:46Dr. Slaton Live: That's what we're talking about.
- 6:48Dr. Slaton Live: We talk about talking to the brain.
- 6:50Dr. Slaton Live: We're not talking about neuroscience, we're talking about social cognitive science from the 21st century through human system science.
- 6:59Dr. Slaton Live: So, you're grounded and understanding.
- 7:01Dr. Slaton Live: You're trying to fix your problem of you Self.
- 7:04Dr. Slaton Live: How do you deal with self?
- 7:06Dr. Slaton Live: You don't go to a psychiatrist to deal with self.
- 7:09Dr. Slaton Live: No, you don't, because that means there's something inside of you that you're not paying attention to or that you're trying to ignore what's happening and what happened.
- 7:18Dr. Slaton Live: And you got to get within yourself and began to realize how do I deal with me?
- 7:23Dr. Slaton Live: Good or bad?
- 7:24Dr. Slaton Live: I gotta figure out how to move me to receive this information, experience it, so we can begin to respond appropriately.
- 7:33Dr. Slaton Live: Because we're feeling it, a sense of feel for self, get self out of the way.
- 7:40Dr. Slaton Live: And then you began to hear the noises and sounds that were once upsetting to you.
- 7:47Dr. Slaton Live: No, because listen, if you listen to the music James Brown say it loud.
- 7:52Dr. Slaton Live: That's what he's saying as he moves you through it.
- 7:56Dr. Slaton Live: And then, coming back to America, he's talking about the community.
- 8:00Dr. Slaton Live: He's talking about how you live in America, the way it is, not the way you want it to be in your brain or in your mind, but how it really is, because in order for it to be in your brain, you gotta be processing it.
- 8:12Dr. Slaton Live: That's what I'm talking about.
- 8:13Dr. Slaton Live: You have to process it if you want it to move through your inner sense of feel for self and the brain, you have to accept the fact that it's gonna hurt to become informed, because you can't be ignorant anymore about what's really holding you back, your unwillingness to cooperate with self, because self wants help, self wants to move through the crisis and not be so angry and frustrated.
- 8:41Dr. Slaton Live: Self want to experience relief and that therapy to come from the inside out.
- 8:48Dr. Slaton Live: Self wants to understand why this happens and continues to happen, where you're ending up on the short end of the stick in terms of feeling, your sense of feel for self and not understanding why you may feel depressed because you're entangled in this constant struggle from within to interpret the external environment, for a sense of control that you lack control over.
- 9:18Dr. Slaton Live: And so we're talking about the brain's body and we're talking about how to move energy, action and feelings through your sense of receive path for the information processing task of coming to understand self in relation to your brain and how your brain responds in the lead of your body, which is your, your, your measuring stick, because if the body is in the lead right, then it's an emotional effect and it's a state of mind or mood state state of mind and you can reflect on the pattern of behavior and see that you've gotten rigidly stuck in responding a certain way, no matter what the situation is, and that means that the information processing cycle, since the receive path functions, is not being allowed the year for year.
- 10:11Dr. Slaton Live: Not cooperating is something that has to happen in order for you to evolve, for personal growth.
- 10:18Dr. Slaton Live: I just said so.
- 10:20Dr. Slaton Live: We're talking about self on the front, because there is a self to be identified within the confines of living each day to become more informed.
- 10:27Dr. Slaton Live: And as you become more informed, you begin to evolve personally as a person inside the body, and it's a structural, but you got to understand something.
- 10:40Dr. Slaton Live: That's what I perceive as what rolls me up and led me through the chaos of my childhood and what academically attuned me to education from an informal perspective, because I became a researcher, I began to study the contact, interaction, everything that was being done around me.
- 11:04Dr. Slaton Live: You know the music, the concerts, the talent shows.
- 11:10Dr. Slaton Live: I mean all that stuff is better than my practices because I'm studying the brain, I'm studying human system science, brain, body and sense events, because I understand that if we're going to fix the problem of learning how to go to school and be successful, where you are, no matter what your background is.
- 11:33Dr. Slaton Live: You got to learn how to experience self and move through that anger and frustration in the experience of self, but it relates to the brain, so you can track and measure your respite to the chaos or trying to balance that effect.
- 11:55Dr. Slaton Live: Okay, and deal with that confluence of a response that encompasses all three, coming from the brain's response the emotion, thought and reflection that has to be stabilized as it gets to the sense to receive, have received, sense, past functions, forward, backward feed.
- 12:16Dr. Slaton Live: That's very complex, but that's why I was in crisis as a kid, because growing up, that's what you have to learn how to do.
- 12:24Dr. Slaton Live: It's balance those influences of emotion, thought and reflection.
- 12:30Dr. Slaton Live: Because you get caught up in a problem where it happened and it's happening and all you can remember is what happened and so nothing gets through, because you continue to reflect on what happened and not get to what's happening, because the happening is when you began to respond and yes, it hurts but you're responding to move through it so that you can begin to develop a knowledge base we always talk about to respond more effectively through changes in self, your sense of feel for self, and you know it because your brain is the leader of your body.
- 13:08Dr. Slaton Live: That means you're not reacting.
- 13:09Dr. Slaton Live: You begin to understand that.
- 13:12Dr. Slaton Live: Wow, I did that.
- 13:13Dr. Slaton Live: The experience that I referenced.
- 13:16Dr. Slaton Live: I came up fighting every day, but I fought every day because my brain was talking to me.
- 13:22Dr. Slaton Live: And every time I fought, my brain was telling me what to do.
- 13:25Dr. Slaton Live: And I was winning because I listened.
- 13:28Dr. Slaton Live: But I listened because I was trying to move through my community and survive, because that was the aggression that was in my community.
- 13:35Dr. Slaton Live: If I didn't fight, I get bullied and I had to do what I had to do.
- 13:39Dr. Slaton Live: So I just paid attention and that got me through it all the way through high school.
- 13:45Dr. Slaton Live: Yes, I dropped out, but I was educated when I dropped out, because you have the sense of feel for self and when you're angry, you are lifted because you understand what your faults are in that situation and you continue to move forward, not understanding how to understand that reflection, to the point in which you can say let me correct me, let me move me out of the way.
- 14:13Dr. Slaton Live: No, no, no, no, that don't happen like that.
- 14:15Dr. Slaton Live: That happens through the experience of experience, these experiences of awareness, where you begin to become more aware of your inner sense of feel for self and why those voices are leading you to make choices, to do, making that you reflect on and measure and sense and feel the brain and lead of the body.
- 14:39Dr. Slaton Live: Because you did not.
- 14:40Dr. Slaton Live: You did not hurt someone Black on the black crime.
- 14:44Dr. Slaton Live: You did not hurt someone male, female domestic violence.
- 14:50Dr. Slaton Live: You didn't hurt someone, even though that situation was heated.
- 14:55Dr. Slaton Live: You knew because your brain was a lead and you worked your way through it, fillings of thought all the way through, crushing that emotion, crushing that reflection and letting your thought come through because it's reflective on what you had to do to get to that point of realization.
- 15:14Dr. Slaton Live: That is me In the lead, in my brain.
- 15:18Dr. Slaton Live: Oh, and that's why my body is controlled and you know it, because other people around you see the change, because they know you're aggressive person.
- 15:29Dr. Slaton Live: They know you don't mind hurting people.
- 15:32Dr. Slaton Live: But when you don't, every step take a few steps back and look at your imagery, mirror other person looking at you, someone you trust, and watch their feedback they're shocked by because you control yourself.
- 15:47Dr. Slaton Live: You got you out of the way.
- 15:49Dr. Slaton Live: You got the emotional you out of the way.
- 15:52Dr. Slaton Live: You got the one that's vindictive and can't stop hating out of the way and you allowed yourself to surface through personal growth, to advance a sense of feel for self in relation to other people.
- 16:07Dr. Slaton Live: Now you feel more connected and they feel more connected because they feel more comfortable, because they sense a feel of control coming from you, right.
- 16:18Dr. Slaton Live: So, talking to the brain and understand the brain's body Go hand in hand and I want you to understand that because, you see, today we have a high level of mental illness in our community and it's important that you learn how to balance these things out, because you have to respond.
- 16:38Dr. Slaton Live: There's no getting on the bench.
- 16:39Dr. Slaton Live: You have to get in the game.
- 16:40Dr. Slaton Live: You got to make that contact, you got to interact and you got to know that you have emotion in you and that feelings and emotion not the same thing.
- 16:50Dr. Slaton Live: Ok, you're moving into a difficult situation.
- 16:53Dr. Slaton Live: You can feel it.
- 16:54Dr. Slaton Live: You have things going through you.
- 16:56Dr. Slaton Live: Those are feelings and those feelings are making blood flow, certain ways that influence temperature inside of you.
- 17:04Dr. Slaton Live: Those are feelings.
- 17:05Dr. Slaton Live: That's not emotion.
- 17:07Dr. Slaton Live: Emotion is the act.
- 17:09Dr. Slaton Live: Ok, I'm angry, I don't feel like thinking.
- 17:16Dr. Slaton Live: Ok, I don't feel like not hurting this person.
- 17:21Dr. Slaton Live: Ok, but that feel is what you're feeling as the energy moves through.
- 17:28Dr. Slaton Live: You can feel the hair on your neck rise.
- 17:31Dr. Slaton Live: So what am I talking about?
- 17:34Dr. Slaton Live: Talking to the brain, because that's what you do to calm yourself down.
- 17:39Dr. Slaton Live: You know that you're inside the body, but what you have to understand is that you're in the body for a reason not the self-destruct, but to learn how to think it through.
- 17:51Dr. Slaton Live: Understanding that.
- 17:54Dr. Slaton Live: That's what your brain does, as well as it also manufactures emotion.
- 17:59Dr. Slaton Live: But what kind of emotion?
- 18:02Dr. Slaton Live: That's what we're telling when we say inform the brain to discipline the body, discipline the body.
- 18:09Dr. Slaton Live: Why?
- 18:09Dr. Slaton Live: What does that mean?
- 18:09Dr. Slaton Live: Put the brain in the lead of the body because you're more informed and what you want to be able to do is check yourself.
- 18:17Dr. Slaton Live: So if something do happen, you're still in the lead, you can explain your way through it.
- 18:24Dr. Slaton Live: Because you, when you lose a sense of feel for self, that's because you come to the point where you don't want to realize that information because of the way it changes or calls for changing you.
- 18:37Dr. Slaton Live: You're not ready to do that, so you avoid the fact that it happened and what's happening deepens the chaos of withdrawal, isolation from reality.
- 18:51Dr. Slaton Live: Now, I'm talking from experience because, see, when you're hurt and you can't take it because you can't process it, because if you process it, you got to deal with that hurt.
- 18:59Dr. Slaton Live: If you deal with that hurt, you're on the other side.
- 19:02Dr. Slaton Live: The brain is going to give you some solutions and you're going to figure out ways to move through it each day, even if the effect is prolonged.
- 19:10Dr. Slaton Live: You're moving through it Now we don't know how long it's going to take you to get through it.
- 19:13Dr. Slaton Live: It depends on the level of anxiety you're moving through Emotion, but what I am seeing is talking to the brain is a process that you have to understand because they always say no, it's on you, you got to save yourself.
- 19:31Dr. Slaton Live: You can't save yourself unless you begin to understand who you are and what you are.
- 19:36Dr. Slaton Live: That's what James Brown was saying Take the time.
- 19:39Dr. Slaton Live: Take the time to figure this out because you're strong.
- 19:43Dr. Slaton Live: Then you understand a sense of feel for self to work through because you want personal growth.
- 19:50Dr. Slaton Live: Do a sense of feel for self that you're becoming more and more aware of as you inform the brain Like no one else can.
- 20:00Dr. Slaton Live: That's how other people become intelligent, because they know how to help self-help, inform self of the brain and through that they're measuring the personal growth performance-wise, what the response is and what's in the response that personifies the act and practice of self-development.
- 20:25Dr. Slaton Live: And when you can do that, let's go back to the other line that I threw at you.
- 20:28Dr. Slaton Live: When you can do that, you can forgive yourself.
- 20:32Dr. Slaton Live: And if you can forgive yourself, you can forgive others.
- 20:36Dr. Slaton Live: And if you can do those two things, then you can heal and recognize where you're right and where you're wrong.
- 20:44Dr. Slaton Live: The hurt and the pain, the suffering you can acknowledge and not be afraid to understand.
- 20:52Dr. Slaton Live: You're accepting that, because that's the key to helping time is accepting the difficulties of being you, who you are and what you're becoming.
- 21:03Dr. Slaton Live: As the information moves through you, there is the recycle process, because when it goes through you, there is a lot of things going on, but it's a confluence of things like reflection, it's a synthesis of things.
- 21:19Dr. Slaton Live: So when the brain releases that new information going forward, what do you think is at it?
- 21:27Dr. Slaton Live: It's a confluence and within that context, you've got real information Informing you or you wouldn't accept that.
- 21:38Dr. Slaton Live: That's the processing variables that I talked through.
- 21:41Dr. Slaton Live: Talking to the brain, you talked the ombre and I talked to mine.
- 21:45Dr. Slaton Live: Right, couldn't, couldn't, got through it without, without that.
- 21:50Dr. Slaton Live: Okay, I'm gonna close with this, because everybody experiences this.
- 21:53Dr. Slaton Live: I mean, if you grew up in America, you, you experienced this too.
- 21:56Dr. Slaton Live: How many of your friends are dead Before and after you got to the 12th grade?
- 22:02Dr. Slaton Live: And when you look back on that, how did it happen and what, what?
- 22:07Dr. Slaton Live: What helped you to survive?
- 22:10Dr. Slaton Live: How did you remove you out of the way so that didn't happen to you?
- 22:13Dr. Slaton Live: Sadder, brain works and what are required that you believe?
- 22:18Dr. Slaton Live: You believe because what's inside of you is real.
- 22:23Dr. Slaton Live: Now, can you deal with that?
- 22:26Dr. Slaton Live: Because many people can't deal with that.
- 22:28Dr. Slaton Live: That's why when I say talks to the brain like what, do what?
- 22:32Dr. Slaton Live: But what do you think you're doing?
- 22:34Dr. Slaton Live: When you wake up in the morning, you in the shower.
- 22:37Dr. Slaton Live: What are you doing?
- 22:37Dr. Slaton Live: How do you prepare your prayer for your day?
- 22:39Dr. Slaton Live: No, we balance this out in real time because you're grounded in the experience of the environment that you have to compete in through your sense of field for self, for personal growth and development.
- 22:52Dr. Slaton Live: This has been Dr Slate and live Brains by showcase, and I'm gonna keep coming.
- 22:58Dr. Slaton Live: I'm gonna keep coming because you know what?
- 23:01Dr. Slaton Live: Talking to the brain is a science and it's not just me talking about it.
- 23:07Dr. Slaton Live: Google it.
- 23:07Dr. Slaton Live: Talk to the brain, google it.
- 23:11Dr. Slaton Live: What about the brain body?
- 23:12Dr. Slaton Live: They don't talk about, like I do, but the construct of doing, the action Behind it is logical, because what are you trying to do?
- 23:22Dr. Slaton Live: You're trying to connect the brain to the body, but what human system science says, don't forget the sensory see path right.
- 23:30Dr. Slaton Live: So when you have conflict, you understand.
- 23:35Dr. Slaton Live: Your senses are transmitters, neuro transmitters, of information from the body and the brain.
- 23:42Dr. Slaton Live: Right the faculty of self, but in relation to noise and sounds, because that's the inner neurologic responses to what's going on externally, where you hear yourself Sending this information and messages backward and forward.
- 24:02Dr. Slaton Live: You can hear it In your sense of feel for self.
- 24:06Dr. Slaton Live: But you got to realize how your brain works and not be afraid when it talks back A few years later.
