- 0:01Speaker 1: The plays in Confused.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Podcast is rated M from marijuana no minors, but your
- 0:05Speaker 2: audience is only.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Is it too loud? Turn it down? Here we go,
- 0:10Speaker 1: Here we go, one two, one two, a little louder.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Use a little more feet on me? Okay, yeah, just
- 0:16Speaker 3: a little bit. Just look tweak, just a little bit. Good.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Good levels are good? Levels are good? Yeah. Man, it
- 0:22Speaker 1: reminds me of the old days when we would record
- 0:24Speaker 1: together in the studio.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Man, so long ago.
- 0:27Speaker 2: You know, a good production director saves everything, ship everything.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Here's a good one. Should we start with this one?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Let's start with this one.
- 0:38Speaker 4: There we go, there you go.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Sorry for the smell, you know, you can't anything.
- 0:44Speaker 4: What was it?
- 0:45Speaker 1: I didn't need lunch, so that was ti noodles. That
- 0:49Speaker 1: sounds really good, though probably doesn't smell tasted.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Noh my god.
- 0:54Speaker 1: What year do we think this is from? I was
- 0:56Speaker 1: probably in what like the second grade, listening to you
- 0:58Speaker 1: on the radio when you were doing this, which is
- 1:01Speaker 1: probably yeah crazy. What year did you get your surgery?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Which surgery? Take a listener's the belly? That's the worst thing?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Would you have surgery on? I had?
- 1:11Speaker 5: HEARNI had done one in the groin, one in the
- 1:13Speaker 5: belly really. Yeah, the belly is way worse than the groin.
- 1:16Speaker 5: It's so swollen. I can't wear pants really, they'll just
- 1:21Speaker 5: keep falling off. I can't use a belt or anything.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm talking about my surgery. Yeah, that's great, that's great.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Thanks your best, the best days, the best days, man.
- 1:36Speaker 2: So that must have been based on my voice. I
- 1:39Speaker 2: feel like I sound pretty young, man. I was probably
- 1:42Speaker 2: about four years old. I was nineteen, and that was
- 1:44Speaker 2: a two thousand and four when I arrived at the
- 1:46Speaker 2: radio station. Oh so that was probably I was probably
- 1:49Speaker 2: about twenty one. Year I came back was two thousand
- 1:51Speaker 2: and four. Yeah, that's when I started. Yeah, the same
- 1:54Speaker 2: year I came back, Yeah, was a four. And whatn't
- 1:56Speaker 2: you doing knights at that point? Weren't you ever on
- 1:58Speaker 2: knights on the Hawk? Well?
- 1:59Speaker 1: Even evening? All right, come on, dude, it's different. Starting
- 2:04Speaker 1: at seven o'clock and it's nights evening. They call it
- 2:07Speaker 1: nights now it's the evening. Here's another good one.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Does your loved one scrutum smell like mothballs? I think
- 2:16Speaker 2: that one was for Were you advertising that? I think
- 2:19Speaker 2: it was some kind of old folks home or something.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Like that, that's bad. That's so nasty. Is your loved
- 2:26Speaker 2: one mistaken for dead while sleeping? You know I didn't
- 2:31Speaker 2: do any of this? Is they used a I tore
- 2:33Speaker 2: my voice.
- 2:35Speaker 1: No, this ain't no AI, this is this is about
- 2:38Speaker 1: as real as it gets.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Here.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I have a hard drive of my entire career. Why
- 2:42Speaker 2: because the moment it's not sad.
- 2:46Speaker 1: You know what the funny thing is. I said to him,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'm like, what are you gotten there for me? And
- 2:49Speaker 1: we looked and pretty much when I arrived is when
- 2:51Speaker 1: that place started really like the dumpster fire started to
- 2:54Speaker 1: be lit. And then suddenly there was like less and
- 2:56Speaker 1: less and less and less and less clips like as
- 2:58Speaker 1: if you were having less fun at Imagine that pretty
- 3:02Speaker 1: damn accurate. Imagine that. And now look at me. Yeah,
- 3:06Speaker 1: now we're on a podcast and we can smoke weed
- 3:08Speaker 1: and say fuck. I mean it's pretty cool. Yeah, isn't
- 3:11Speaker 1: it nice? I mean, is it is? It's a little strange.
- 3:15Speaker 1: It might be strange for you know, uh, a classic
- 3:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna slap you, You're gonna slap me. I don't
- 3:21Speaker 1: know how I can still hit No, I know, I know,
- 3:24Speaker 1: but you can say fucking to a microphone. Now, I
- 3:26Speaker 1: will admit that, listening back to previous episodes of this podcast,
- 3:29Speaker 1: my potty mount is bad. Actually, you know what, My
- 3:32Speaker 1: father made a comment to me. You know, you say
- 3:35Speaker 1: fuck every other word and oh your body mouth below
- 3:39Speaker 1: and I know Fading knows best.
- 3:41Speaker 2: So I was doing really well a few episodes one, two,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and three, and then like four came by and I was.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Like, yes, last week with your sister, your little potty mouth,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I think you were worse than me last week. We
- 3:51Speaker 1: should keep a running tally of who says fuck more.
- 3:53Speaker 1: You were me. Well, I'll bring my sister around. She's
- 3:55Speaker 1: gonna piss me off, and I'm gonna curse a lot
- 3:57Speaker 1: more so.
- 3:58Speaker 3: In my family, you wouldn't know it from looking at
- 4:00Speaker 3: me or speaking to me, But the Heft family we
- 4:03Speaker 3: are notorious for being the picassos of profanity.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Really, our family reunions, it's like you'd be surprised there
- 4:10Speaker 3: were two PhDs in the room.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It's not me, by the way, So Todd Heft not
- 4:19Speaker 1: a big Ganja guy, not anymore, sir, used to be
- 4:22Speaker 1: back in the day. See, because all I hear is
- 4:23Speaker 1: that all I hear from from people of a certain age,
- 4:26Speaker 1: people of a certain age, is that to at some
- 4:30Speaker 1: point vacuum my day.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It was awful weed.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It was.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It was here's how it was. So back in my time,
- 4:37Speaker 3: as they say, weed was very different. It was not supercharged,
- 4:40Speaker 3: because that's just a growing technique now, the way they've
- 4:43Speaker 3: hybridized the plants and the way they grow them for
- 4:46Speaker 3: maximum impact. Right, So my whole life I smoked one
- 4:49Speaker 3: kind of weed.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I didn't smoke for a number of years, and I
- 4:52Speaker 3: moved to Boston and I was managing bands up there.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Well.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Early on, I was managing this kick ass band and
- 4:59Speaker 3: we went to a party at the one guy's house
- 5:01Speaker 3: and he passes me a joint. He's like, here, you
- 5:03Speaker 3: hit on this, dude. So I'm like, sure, dude, don't
- 5:09Speaker 3: do that.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I was like why, oh no, and he was like,
- 5:12Speaker 2: oh that's right, year old man, it's not like the
- 5:15Speaker 2: wead you grew up with. I was like, what do
- 5:17Speaker 2: you mean?
- 5:18Speaker 3: An hour later, I was tripping balls. I was just
- 5:22Speaker 3: like sitting on the couch. My eyes were bugging out
- 5:25Speaker 3: of my head. I was like, what the fuck is
- 5:27Speaker 3: in that?
- 5:27Speaker 2: He's like, nothing, man, it's just weird. I was like,
- 5:30Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it. I was like, Okay, I need
- 5:32Speaker 2: to not do that. And so you had one bad
- 5:35Speaker 2: experience and then you were done with it. No, one
- 5:38Speaker 2: bad experience.
- 5:39Speaker 1: No, So were you done after that or did you
- 5:41Speaker 1: continue to smoke marijuana after that?
- 5:43Speaker 2: That's some time after that, Yeah, the story ends. What
- 5:47Speaker 2: about cigarettes?
- 5:48Speaker 1: Never never tasted like shit, even when you would drink,
- 5:51Speaker 1: like the drunk sticks don't count. You always hear people
- 5:53Speaker 1: say that, you know, it's weird, And I've heard that too.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I've had friends that just smoked when they drank, right,
- 5:58Speaker 1: But now I grew up My entire hire family smoked right,
- 6:01Speaker 1: my mother, so I was just like, I smelled it
- 6:04Speaker 1: my whole life. And there's a weird, kind of a
- 6:07Speaker 1: nostalgic psychological aspect to that. For me, this is not
- 6:10Speaker 1: to get too deep, but it's weird. So I smell
- 6:12Speaker 1: cigarette smoke and I don't mind it. You know, it
- 6:15Speaker 1: doesn't bother me. It don't flip out over it. Yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 1: because it reminds me of that. Plus Plus I lived
- 6:20Speaker 1: in nightclubs when I was at Zzo. You know I
- 6:22Speaker 1: was there. You could smoke in clubs back then. Yeah,
- 6:25Speaker 1: so I was around it. My whole life. I might
- 6:26Speaker 1: as well have been smoking, but I never liked it.
- 6:29Speaker 1: My lungs could never take it either. I as of
- 6:31Speaker 1: recently quit vaping. I've vaped really hard for like three years.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I mean, like, this is why vaping is ten times
- 6:38Speaker 1: worse than cigarettes is, because you do it all freaking
- 6:40Speaker 1: day long, all day, every day, middle of the night,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and all those times I got awful for I was
- 6:47Speaker 1: thinking about this today. I went to the doctor because
- 6:49Speaker 1: I felt like I was getting sick, and sure enough,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I have bronchitis. And my doctor listened to my chest
- 6:53Speaker 1: and like listen to my lungs or whatever, and said that, yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and it said that my lungs sounded like a seventy
- 6:58Speaker 1: year old man. And he said, he said, I want
- 7:00Speaker 1: to see you back here in a month and a half,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and I want you to be done with that fucking vape.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And I swear, when your doctor says fuck to you,
- 7:06Speaker 1: there's profanity, it's something something, right, It hits a little
- 7:12Speaker 1: different when your doctor drops the little left bomb. Right.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So I was thinking about this earlier today, though, I'm
- 7:18Speaker 1: so excited to go back to my doctor and be
- 7:20Speaker 1: like I'm done with this. I finally quit it like
- 7:22Speaker 1: I did the I'm a month and a half in
- 7:24Speaker 1: now yeah. No, I feel like I can breathe now. Yeah.
- 7:28Speaker 1: But the weed does that to your lungs too. Okay,
- 7:30Speaker 1: so this brings me to my next point. So I'm
- 7:31Speaker 1: over at my parents' house yesterday and I said to
- 7:33Speaker 1: my I said to my mother, I'm like, I'm very
- 7:35Speaker 1: proud of myself. I'm excited to tell my doctor I
- 7:38Speaker 1: finally quit the vaping. And I said, but next, I
- 7:40Speaker 1: want to quit weed. A long pause, and then I said,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I still kind of smoke weed every day, and she
- 7:46Speaker 1: goes every day, and she was so like, oh, by
- 7:50Speaker 1: every day.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Why are you telling your mother this?
- 7:52Speaker 1: I don't know, because I feel like if I tell
- 7:54Speaker 1: my mother this, then it's easier for me to hold
- 7:56Speaker 1: myself accountable and get my shit together. However, this weed
- 7:58Speaker 1: theme podcast ain't helped me much. You know.
- 8:00Speaker 3: The bottom line is you want to push your mother's
- 8:03Speaker 3: buttons and you know it.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I mean, I wouldn't say that.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I don't know. You're pretty good at it for a
- 8:08Speaker 2: guy who's not I think every teenager.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm a teenager. Toddlee. Practically, I might
- 8:16Speaker 1: act like a teenager, but I'm not a teenager.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Todd Half. You were just talking about how you had
- 8:20Speaker 2: managed bands at one point. Yeah, you had a cool
- 8:23Speaker 2: radio career. Most people are probably listening to this. No
- 8:25Speaker 2: me best from my radio career. But after I left here,
- 8:28Speaker 2: I went. I lived in New England and I did
- 8:30Speaker 2: two things. I was a promotion and marketing executive for
- 8:34Speaker 2: record companies and I also on the side was managing
- 8:37Speaker 2: artists and I got one of them signed and so
- 8:40Speaker 2: that was an amazing experience. So I worked all the
- 8:43Speaker 2: Northeast and mid Atlantic states. The first band we broke
- 8:46Speaker 2: was Tool.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Oh wow.
- 8:48Speaker 3: You know this is a great kind of radio slash
- 8:50Speaker 3: record story. So when we were working Tool, they had
- 8:54Speaker 3: released the EP that had been big at college radio
- 8:57Speaker 3: undertow right Yeah, without a amazing track on it, with
- 9:01Speaker 3: stop motion kind of Jesus stuff going on in there, right,
- 9:04Speaker 3: And that was mind blowing, and I'm like, hell, yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 3: I want this job. So they hired a big field staff.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I was working out of Boston. Like I said, I
- 9:12Speaker 3: worked in mid Atlantic in New England, and so the
- 9:14Speaker 3: release was on Himah. The first single was called anybody.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Oh Man, You're gonna stump the DJs stink fist.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Okay, which was five minutes long. I think I got
- 9:25Speaker 2: that in college one time.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Okay, where's the rim shot?
- 9:31Speaker 6: Wait?
- 9:32Speaker 1: Wait wait, wait, wait, wait, wait pause, because I have
- 9:34Speaker 1: one of those wait wait wait, wait, wait, keep and
- 9:36Speaker 1: hang on wait where is it? Oh?
- 9:38Speaker 4: Here?
- 9:38Speaker 1: It is.
- 9:41Speaker 3: All right, So we get this and of course it's
- 9:44Speaker 3: an amazing album. They actually took us all into New
- 9:47Speaker 3: York City. I don't know if you're familiar with that album,
- 9:49Speaker 3: deeply familiar with it. But Tool had hired one of
- 9:52Speaker 3: the greatest producers of all time, who'd produced the albums
- 9:55Speaker 3: from King Crimson in the nineteen seventies. This guy was
- 9:58Speaker 3: like a genius at placing little things in the in
- 10:01Speaker 3: the sound spectrum all over the place, right, so his
- 10:04Speaker 3: sound mixes would go all around you. This guy was amazing.
- 10:07Speaker 3: When I heard they hired him, I was just like,
- 10:08Speaker 3: oh my god, this is so exciting. So they flew
- 10:11Speaker 3: us all into New York and there was at the time,
- 10:13Speaker 3: there was a Harmon Cardon showroom, you know, Harmon Cardon
- 10:17Speaker 3: Beautiful that, so it was like a showroom and they
- 10:21Speaker 3: had decked it out like a living room for us
- 10:23Speaker 3: set up all the chairs in a big circle and
- 10:25Speaker 3: they played this album at concert level sound, and I
- 10:29Speaker 3: mean there wasn't a hint of distortion and it sounded
- 10:33Speaker 3: better than anything I'd ever heard in my life. And
- 10:35Speaker 3: that album came out, it was just my head completely exploded.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So we were taking Stinkfist to radio and I was
- 10:41Speaker 3: like it might be a tough sell.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Just the name. The song is brilliant, right, but there's
- 10:47Speaker 2: no apparent chorus, long ass intro but powerful, you know,
- 10:51Speaker 2: it just like cooked from this first beat. So well,
- 10:54Speaker 2: what was on the playlist then is the important thing
- 10:56Speaker 2: I was trying to get to, Like, The Cure was
- 10:58Speaker 2: the most played band at that time at all alternative radio,
- 11:01Speaker 2: so we were working mainstream rock, which we knew would
- 11:03Speaker 2: be slow to the party. I was having to bring
- 11:05Speaker 2: in all the alternative stations in New England. So I
- 11:08Speaker 2: go to this guy out in Northampton, Massachusetts, small station,
- 11:12Speaker 2: important station. Boston was on the fence. BCN was the leader.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Then they were on the fence. They were almost there.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I go out to Northampton. I'm telling this guy the story,
- 11:21Speaker 2: I play him the song and he just about throws
- 11:24Speaker 2: me out.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Of the radio station. He's like, just there's no fucking
- 11:27Speaker 3: whim ever playing this song. I was like, listen, dude,
- 11:29Speaker 3: you're in Northampton, Massachusetts. I no, it's a hip little town.
- 11:33Speaker 3: But outside of this town, it's just dudes laying bricks
- 11:36Speaker 3: all day. They're getting their pickup trucks. At the end
- 11:38Speaker 3: of the day, they want to drink a beer and
- 11:39Speaker 3: they want to rock on their way home, and this song.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Is going to do it.
- 11:44Speaker 3: He's like, it's called stink Fist. I said, I know,
- 11:47Speaker 3: so don't say the title. Play the song. They don't
- 11:50Speaker 3: say that in there.
- 11:51Speaker 2: You know, it's not like they're going stink fings, you know,
- 11:55Speaker 2: nothing like that. Nobody will even know what the words mean.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Just play it.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Guarantee you this is going to be a monster. Well
- 12:02Speaker 3: he resisted for weeks, you know, until stations started slowly
- 12:05Speaker 3: coming in. BCN adds it. I finally talked to this
- 12:08Speaker 3: guy after he adds it. He's like, oh my god, dude.
- 12:10Speaker 3: And that was so rewarding to be part of that project.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I mean, that was just amazing. And you know, I
- 12:16Speaker 3: covered all their shows on that tour for god about
- 12:18Speaker 3: a year, and uh, if it wasn't for us in
- 12:21Speaker 3: the field really badgering the ship at our program directors
- 12:25Speaker 3: and music directors. It wouldn't have gotten on and they
- 12:27Speaker 3: wouldn't be the band they are today.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Wow, it was a cool thing to be a part of.
- 12:31Speaker 2: We want to talk about your radio career, but we
- 12:32Speaker 2: should tell it. Do you wanted that later?
- 12:33Speaker 1: Yeah? We should? I should. We should click the open button,
- 12:35Speaker 1: shouldn't we? Yeah?
- 12:36Speaker 2: But seriously, an awesome way to start the show. Tot
- 12:39Speaker 2: half episode seven The Blaze the Confused podcasts. We're gonna
- 12:42Speaker 2: start it right now.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Welcome to the Blazed and Confused podcast with Becker and Joel,
- 12:49Speaker 6: the trivia podcast where the questions.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Are high, and so are they.
- 12:53Speaker 6: He's time to stuck your curiosity and light up some knowledge.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Though.
- 12:58Speaker 6: Blazed and Confused Podcast starts now.
- 13:05Speaker 1: All right, So, like the format of the show is
- 13:07Speaker 1: that we have four questions that we'll go back and forth.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I'll give him four questions, he'll give me four questions,
- 13:12Speaker 1: and you're like the lifeline. We don't have official rules,
- 13:14Speaker 1: just kind of figuring that out as we go out
- 13:16Speaker 1: every episode. That what it is the six episodes that
- 13:18Speaker 1: we still don't have several rules. Yeah, wah, yeah, but
- 13:22Speaker 1: last time you said that you could use the lifeline twice. Yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: there's four questions. Yeah, that's half the question. I know,
- 13:29Speaker 1: at least it's fifty to fifty. It should be one time,
- 13:32Speaker 1: all right, it shouldn't be one time.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Question number one?
- 13:37Speaker 1: First category tonight today, whenever you're listening, Are you smarter
- 13:41Speaker 1: than a fifth grader? Are you asking me? Yeah? Is
- 13:43Speaker 1: that the first question? I mean the answer for me?
- 13:45Speaker 1: You know it's an easy one. Are you smarter than
- 13:48Speaker 1: a fifth grader? Now that's a category. Remember the show
- 13:50Speaker 1: that back on the Day with us Jeff Foxworthy? You know,
- 13:52Speaker 1: are you smarter than the fifth grader?
- 13:55Speaker 4: All right?
- 13:55Speaker 1: How many adjectives are in this sentence? Can I write
- 13:58Speaker 1: it down?
- 13:59Speaker 2: Or no? You don't need a This is going to
- 14:00Speaker 2: be so embarrassing for you, Becker, because you write you
- 14:03Speaker 2: do copyrighting, Still doing copyrighting? Yeah, okay, go.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Billy made a rude noise in clash? An adjective, adjective?
- 14:14Speaker 1: How many adjectives? No, don't, don't give events.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I was a peace sign man.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Billy made a rude noise in clash. Oh there's two,
- 14:28Speaker 1: there's two. He made no, hold on? Hold on?
- 14:35Speaker 2: Now I'm questioning what a fucking adjective is?
- 14:38Speaker 1: Good question? I knew you would do this.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Adjectives and adverbs are a big stumbling block.
- 14:44Speaker 1: My answer is too. Is that your final answer? Final answer?
- 14:47Speaker 1: And the answer is wrong. Yeah, the answer is one.
- 14:52Speaker 1: What was the adjective rude? Because it's a described descriptor? Yeah?
- 14:57Speaker 4: Right?
- 14:58Speaker 2: What I was right before?
- 14:59Speaker 1: I said it was the DISCRIBI you were wrong because
- 15:01Speaker 1: he said too. Oh yeah, oh that question too. Hmmm.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Adjectives were you and not?
- 15:13Speaker 2: Again?
- 15:14Speaker 1: Hello, Joe, Hello, I'm looking at these questions here, trying
- 15:18Speaker 1: to take charge of the board and stuff. Yeah, I know.
- 15:21Speaker 2: He's also clearly in charge of the weed.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Exactly, which, by the way, I need moore. All right,
- 15:26Speaker 1: so do you heal you? That'll help health? Okay? What's
- 15:32Speaker 1: the medical term for high blood pressure? Dude?
- 15:35Speaker 2: Come on? Is it like an acronym? That is so easy?
- 15:39Speaker 2: Is it an acronym? Remember you have blood pressure? Remember
- 15:42Speaker 2: you have ane? No, he gives it to me now
- 15:45Speaker 2: and fucking tell you that. Oh god, you have a lifeline.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Use your lifeline, Todd. The answer is hyper hypertension. I
- 15:54Speaker 2: never have guessed that, never would have gotten never.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Okay, all right, so too wrong?
- 16:00Speaker 2: We get to hang him out the window upside down
- 16:01Speaker 2: if he gets all wrong and shake his pockets out
- 16:04Speaker 2: and see what happened.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Actually, come on, P Diddy, Oh god.
- 16:12Speaker 2: P Diddy, come on, I know you got that money
- 16:15Speaker 2: in your pockets.
- 16:19Speaker 1: On that note, let's go to question three.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Let's question three.
- 16:26Speaker 1: How many rings are on the Audi logo?
- 16:29Speaker 2: Four?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Four?
- 16:30Speaker 6: Four?
- 16:31Speaker 1: Very good? Very good. See I love picking these questions
- 16:34Speaker 1: that he knows the answer to. But he sits here
- 16:36Speaker 1: and he's.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Like, second, guess, I guess is the wrong?
- 16:40Speaker 1: Guess?
- 16:41Speaker 4: Is wrong?
- 16:41Speaker 2: A natural inclination on that is three? Right?
- 16:44Speaker 3: You think about that, but you're like, no, the Olympics
- 16:46Speaker 3: would have a problem with that. It's got it before.
- 16:48Speaker 3: That's the way my mind goes. Wait, the Olympics have
- 16:51Speaker 3: three rings?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Three rings? Really? Don't they have five? Is it watched smoking? Yeah?
- 16:57Speaker 1: I know? Yeah? Really get in the contact.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Question four twenty?
- 17:03Speaker 2: What?
- 17:05Speaker 4: All right?
- 17:06Speaker 1: I have one more question for you. Let's do it.
- 17:08Speaker 1: It's this music question that I hope you get wrong.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, and Ray Wilson have all served
- 17:16Speaker 1: as lead singer of what British rock band.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Genesis Wow Very good?
- 17:22Speaker 1: Some other like man I didn't know about him. Oh,
- 17:24Speaker 1: very good.
- 17:25Speaker 2: I was piecing it together, very good. So I did
- 17:27Speaker 2: pretty well. What did I get three out of two
- 17:29Speaker 2: or three out of four?
- 17:30Speaker 1: Three out of two? Yeah, you got three out of two.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I have more of that joint.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Trivia you didn't know you needed, or maybe you still don't.
- 17:39Speaker 6: It's still Blazed and Confused podcast.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I've got stuff for you. Now. Yeah, you should go
- 17:44Speaker 1: back to giving me multiple choice. I liked when you
- 17:46Speaker 1: did that.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Everyone complained.
- 17:47Speaker 2: They're like, you give him multiple choice questions and that's
- 17:50Speaker 2: how he gets them right on the time. But yeah,
- 17:52Speaker 2: but now I don't do that anymore. Uh oh, gonna
- 17:55Speaker 2: make it more even, all right.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Question number one?
- 18:00Speaker 1: All right, buddy, here we go. What is a palindrome?
- 18:03Speaker 1: I give you? Have you ever heard of that word before?
- 18:06Speaker 2: Now?
- 18:06Speaker 1: What are you talking about?
- 18:07Speaker 2: It sounds like a Ford or something for Yeah, No,
- 18:12Speaker 2: not a forty fourteen eighty three Ford palandrome. Oh fort
- 18:16Speaker 2: palandro fort palandrome like a war thing.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That's not it at all. Palandrome.
- 18:22Speaker 2: You have to give yourself the buzzer because you got
- 18:24Speaker 2: it wrong. That was a stupid That was a dumb
- 18:26Speaker 2: ask question a palindrome is when a word is spelled
- 18:31Speaker 2: the same way forwards are backwards. So race car is
- 18:34Speaker 2: r A C E C A R If you spell
- 18:37Speaker 2: it backwards, it's still race car.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but is race one level?
- 18:43Speaker 2: L e v E L L e v E L
- 18:46Speaker 2: rot r O t O R R O t O
- 18:49Speaker 2: R palindromes.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Rot r t O R ro. What was the question again?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Who are you?
- 19:00Speaker 4: You question too?
- 19:04Speaker 1: What is a group of flamingos called a ship? I
- 19:08Speaker 1: know this too. I've asked this as a trivia question before,
- 19:14Speaker 1: not to you, but as at my various trivia events,
- 19:18Speaker 1: and I don't remember. You know, you would think that
- 19:20Speaker 1: after three years a host and a weekly trivia night
- 19:22Speaker 1: that you would retain some sense of information, And now
- 19:26Speaker 1: you don't really, at least in my case, don't really.
- 19:31Speaker 2: You know, a group of crows is a murder, which
- 19:33Speaker 2: I think is a pretty cool A group of flamingos
- 19:36Speaker 2: of flock? That's wrong, You're not You're kind of close.
- 19:40Speaker 2: You got the first two letters right.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Block. Oh, should I be going to my lifeline here
- 19:48Speaker 1: for question? Now?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Don't know the answer to that? Okay, what's the answer, Joel?
- 19:53Speaker 2: I don't know what is the answer is a flamboyant, Yes, a.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Mingos. Flamboyants of flamingos. You remember that one?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Now?
- 20:05Speaker 1: No, probably not, I don't think so.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Question three, which state is the only state that has
- 20:12Speaker 2: a flag a state flag that is not rectangular or square?
- 20:18Speaker 1: Dude, it's that rectangular or square?
- 20:20Speaker 6: What is it?
- 20:21Speaker 4: One?
- 20:24Speaker 2: I give them all these easy ones, which.
- 20:26Speaker 1: By the way, I didn't even take the SATs. You
- 20:28Speaker 1: know that I took the PSATs and I got an
- 20:31Speaker 1: embarrassingly low st Go on.
- 20:33Speaker 4: What was it?
- 20:33Speaker 1: What was your embarrassing what's the highest you can get
- 20:35Speaker 1: on that thing? Like a fifteen hundred, right, isn't that
- 20:38Speaker 1: what it is? I was twenty one, twenty one hundred.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I think I got like a seven something or got
- 20:42Speaker 1: a seven seven. It's not like a seven hundred something.
- 20:46Speaker 1: So you get a certain amount of points for getting
- 20:48Speaker 1: your name scale.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Ye. That all I remember.
- 20:52Speaker 1: About the p s A TS, the practice SSATS, was
- 20:55Speaker 1: that I paid money to take it, right, and then
- 20:57Speaker 1: they packed us all in a room like fucking sardine.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And you get to the one point in the math
- 21:02Speaker 1: portion of it, which is no calculator. It may you
- 21:05Speaker 1: turn your calculator in. Yeah, I just literally thought, oh,
- 21:08Speaker 1: I'm never getting any of these right. So I just
- 21:10Speaker 1: went up and down with the scantron like ABCD BCD,
- 21:14Speaker 1: you know, and you make like little fun drawings on
- 21:17Speaker 1: the well Christmas tree shop. Yeah you little drawl. Yeah yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 1: it's like seven, which is pretty good at battleship, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: battleship for a seven hundred with the PSA TS and
- 21:27Speaker 1: I paid for that. What a scam? What kind of
- 21:30Speaker 1: bullshit is that?
- 21:31Speaker 4: Anyway?
- 21:32Speaker 1: Asked me the question again.
- 21:35Speaker 2: What state has the only state flag that is not
- 21:39Speaker 2: rectangular or a square? There's only one state even I
- 21:43Speaker 2: knew this before I looked it.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Up for and I want to say Arkansas. No, it's Ohio.
- 21:50Speaker 2: The internet said it was a burgie shaped flag. No clue.
- 21:55Speaker 2: It's like, uh, it goes like this and then comes
- 21:58Speaker 2: in at an angle like a tryang almost, and then
- 22:00Speaker 2: it comes back out like like the old school things
- 22:03Speaker 2: in medieval yay movies, like in medieval times. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 2: maybe you'll know this one doubted question four twenty. What
- 22:13Speaker 2: Dutch engineer lou Autens Jesus was famous? What the oh
- 22:19Speaker 2: my god? He was famous for inventing this in nineteen
- 22:22Speaker 2: sixty two. It was introduced to the public in nineteen
- 22:25Speaker 2: sixty three. What was his name?
- 22:27Speaker 1: Lou Autens? How the hell am I supposed to know that?
- 22:30Speaker 2: What kind of a device was it?
- 22:32Speaker 1: You would listen to it in sixty two?
- 22:35Speaker 2: Yeah, he developed it, invented it in nineteen sixty two,
- 22:38Speaker 2: and it was introduced to the public in nineteen sixty three.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Became very popular on how you would listen to musicytte? Yeah, yeah, yeah, wow.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I figured there was gonna be something audible.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Thanks hit, Why did you think that I would ever
- 22:51Speaker 1: know that with just the guy's name? Listen.
- 22:54Speaker 2: People kept telling me you were getting these easy questions,
- 22:57Speaker 2: So I'm trying to make it a little more difficult
- 22:59Speaker 2: for you and.
- 22:59Speaker 1: You're learning something at the same time. Oh wow, you're
- 23:02Speaker 1: never going to retain any of this, but it's still
- 23:05Speaker 1: fun for me. I feel like I learned a lot.
- 23:08Speaker 1: What was the guy's name? Oh jeez?
- 23:13Speaker 6: Trivia, man, it's like the universe asking us questions, you know.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Yeah, the Blazing Confused podcast.
- 23:23Speaker 1: She actually did have one question that I could have
- 23:25Speaker 1: asked you about the longest running TV show in TV histories,
- 23:29Speaker 1: Meet the Fucking Press.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Did you know that I did not know that you
- 23:31Speaker 3: would have gotten that right, you knew that that or
- 23:34Speaker 3: sixty minutes I would have guessed.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Are you good with trivia?
- 23:36Speaker 2: Depends what it is trivia of Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:39Speaker 1: You ever go to a trivia night and like rip
- 23:40Speaker 1: it up?
- 23:41Speaker 2: Not really? I used to host them though, like you,
- 23:43Speaker 2: I mean so yeah, you know it's crazy people get
- 23:45Speaker 2: nutty about their trivia.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Especially when they want to challenge you on an answer.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Sometimes I just want to be like yeah, like dude,
- 23:51Speaker 3: your dude, it's on the card.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, listen to.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Man, listen, you're playing for a fifty dollars gift card.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Let's let's relax, let's calm down a little bit. I
- 23:59Speaker 1: had a guy at Guy that wanted to punch me
- 24:01Speaker 1: in the face because of a question about a month ago.
- 24:03Speaker 1: My question was something about the MLB teams that like
- 24:07Speaker 1: changed their name, changed their changed their name or something. Yes, nuts,
- 24:11Speaker 1: but this question was about the baseball teams that changed
- 24:14Speaker 1: their name. This dude wanted to fight me that the
- 24:16Speaker 1: Oakland Athletics changed their name and should count because they're
- 24:20Speaker 1: no longer in Oakland, and I'm like, yeah, but they're
- 24:24Speaker 1: still the athletic Athletics. Yeah, but he like loves me
- 24:27Speaker 1: on it. He fought me, and so finally I told him,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I'm like, listen, I'm gonna give you the point back,
- 24:31Speaker 1: but you're still, you know, gonna lose. It's like not
- 24:33Speaker 1: going to make that. It's not gonna make a difference.
- 24:35Speaker 2: But he got the satisfaction, did he though? I don't know,
- 24:37Speaker 2: people get nice, you're nice. You at least listen to
- 24:39Speaker 2: these people. Hear him out my former boss Bill, Oh Bill.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I used to do trivia with him and if somebody
- 24:45Speaker 2: came up and challenged him, he'd be like the fuck
- 24:47Speaker 2: out of here. I always thought it was really cool
- 24:52Speaker 2: to like work in the record field, and it's so
- 24:54Speaker 2: cool that you got a chance to do that and
- 24:56Speaker 2: with tool of all bands, like promoting.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Them, putting them on the map. I started in records
- 25:00Speaker 3: in seven ninety seven. I was at Zzo for fourteen years. Wow,
- 25:04Speaker 3: you were more than that. No, because I was in
- 25:06Speaker 3: Hartford in between that kind of station, rock station, very
- 25:09Speaker 3: similar to Zezo.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Did you do night or evenings?
- 25:12Speaker 2: Now?
- 25:12Speaker 1: Was the program director up there and there's a difference.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Droll.
- 25:18Speaker 1: No, it's funny you said that. When you walked in,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I said, Wow, this is fucking cool, just like when
- 25:22Speaker 1: Blake was here. I'm like, man, I used to listen
- 25:23Speaker 1: to you guys. Now you're in my apartment. This is
- 25:25Speaker 1: like for a radio nerd. Pretty cool. Okay, pretty cool,
- 25:29Speaker 1: pretty cool, glad I could but make your day. But
- 25:32Speaker 1: you said, you said, mister radio man, you said, well,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you didn't listen to me on zez Oh you're right.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I was born one year after you left. Fuck, I'm right,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you're right.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Now.
- 25:46Speaker 2: You know, we were talking with Blake. He was talking about,
- 25:48Speaker 2: you know, fun radio times, things like stripper Tuesday. You
- 25:51Speaker 2: don't look like the stripper Tuesday type. If I had
- 25:54Speaker 2: to guess, uh oh oh man, I'm wrong, but you
- 25:57Speaker 2: it wasn't the stripper. Yeah, no one wants to see
- 26:00Speaker 2: that shit. But do you recall some of like really
- 26:03Speaker 2: just amazing times saying your radio career with Zizia.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Well, sort of building off of what you said, the
- 26:07Speaker 3: late Fred Shade. Fred just passed away a little while ago.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I don't know if you if you knew of Fred,
- 26:12Speaker 3: but he was the name. He was a producer of
- 26:15Speaker 3: mine when I did remotes, and he also was kind
- 26:19Speaker 3: of like what we called the whipping boy at the
- 26:21Speaker 3: radio station. So basically we had him do everything. Great guy,
- 26:24Speaker 3: great personality, really outgoing, really over the top. He would
- 26:27Speaker 3: do anything that needed to be done, and I mean
- 26:29Speaker 3: like crazy stuff. But he was also a little out
- 26:31Speaker 3: of his mind too, which was great. So he was
- 26:33Speaker 3: like he was like my guy. Anyway, I was doing
- 26:37Speaker 3: afternoon Drive and back then you got to understand how
- 26:40Speaker 3: big radio was. I mean, today's radio is miniscule audience
- 26:45Speaker 3: wise compared to what we were different back then it
- 26:47Speaker 3: was lifestyle. You know, we were of the demo we
- 26:50Speaker 3: were targeting, and all of our friends listened, and if
- 26:54Speaker 3: you had listeners, you had like three hundred thousand.
- 26:56Speaker 2: People listening to you. You know, it was. It was crazy.
- 26:59Speaker 3: So they sent me to do my afternoon Drive show
- 27:03Speaker 3: from Daytona. Spring Break is when MTV used to host it.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Right.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Oh man, I was like, yeah, we go down there
- 27:11Speaker 2: with no plan.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Fread's my producer, all right. So the idea of a producer,
- 27:15Speaker 3: as you know, is to kind of take all the
- 27:18Speaker 3: pressure off the talent so the talent can do a
- 27:20Speaker 3: great show, set up everything, come up with ideas, get
- 27:22Speaker 3: us to where we need to go, you know, do
- 27:24Speaker 3: all the stuff that so I can just think about entertaining.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Now.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Back then, we had to do the show with the
- 27:32Speaker 3: first cell phones. Now, this cell phone was about the
- 27:35Speaker 3: size of your laptop there with a handset on it.
- 27:39Speaker 3: But basically I was pre recording every break, but I
- 27:41Speaker 3: was doing it close to the airtime. So first day
- 27:45Speaker 3: we go down there, it's like great wet t shirt
- 27:47Speaker 3: contest at the pool.
- 27:48Speaker 2: One o'clock. Let's go record, you know, go in there.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I do it up, do it up, do it up.
- 27:53Speaker 3: You know, there's a lot of exaggeration that goes on.
- 27:55Speaker 3: It's radio. We have to make it sound like it's
- 27:57Speaker 3: a complete mess of insanity theater, even though I'm standing
- 28:01Speaker 3: on the back, like, you know, yelling into the phone.
- 28:03Speaker 3: A lot of great background noise because those college kids
- 28:06Speaker 3: from all over the country that are going out of
- 28:07Speaker 3: their minds. Yeah, describing the girls on stage, et cetera.
- 28:11Speaker 3: So so, and then we do a few more breaks.
- 28:13Speaker 3: You know, you gotta do what you got to do
- 28:15Speaker 3: some of those breaks. And then every night we saw
- 28:18Speaker 3: a different band. You know, it was great. So the
- 28:20Speaker 3: next day comes, I'm like Fred, what's going on. He's like,
- 28:23Speaker 3: not much. There's really not that much going on. Another
- 28:25Speaker 3: wet t shirt contest. I was like, okay, fuck, okay,
- 28:27Speaker 3: so we'll go there. So I do it again. It's crazy, crazy,
- 28:31Speaker 3: crazy do the show and it's great. It's playing really
- 28:33Speaker 3: well back here in town. Third day comes again. I'm like, Fred,
- 28:38Speaker 3: I just this is insane, going to like Groundhog Day.
- 28:42Speaker 2: It was crazy, Like you know how many wet t
- 28:45Speaker 2: shirt contests can a full grown viril male handle.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Not many, apparently, because it was like I was like,
- 28:53Speaker 3: this is actually getting boring, and I can't believe I
- 28:55Speaker 3: actually said that to myself. I'm like, what am I
- 28:57Speaker 3: going to talk about? I can't I'm doing the same thing.
- 28:59Speaker 3: So but we go through it the third day and
- 29:01Speaker 3: my fiance calls.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Me in tears.
- 29:04Speaker 3: I mean, she's freaking out and she's like, so much fun.
- 29:10Speaker 3: I'm like, honey, I swear to god, it's pretend I
- 29:13Speaker 3: am making up everything.
- 29:16Speaker 4: No, you're not, Yes, I am.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I'm like, Fred, be a good producer.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Fred.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Now it was true, but it.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Was very tough to communicate that, and that just shows
- 29:27Speaker 3: I was creating this image of total cacophony right and
- 29:32Speaker 3: it was fun and that was the magic of it,
- 29:35Speaker 3: but also got me into a lot of Trouble. We
- 29:37Speaker 3: also that night saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers pool Side.
- 29:40Speaker 3: That was one of the greatest shows of my life because,
- 29:43Speaker 3: for one thing, it was very small. The one thing
- 29:45Speaker 3: I remember, I remember just being blown away first time
- 29:47Speaker 3: i'd seen him. They were such great musicians. They're playing
- 29:50Speaker 3: one of their tunes and in the middle of it,
- 29:53Speaker 3: they just launched into back and Black, I mean, no warning,
- 29:57Speaker 3: just like it's going going, going the boom and the
- 30:01Speaker 3: beat was completely opposite. I was like, oh my god,
- 30:07Speaker 3: that was such a great show. I mean, that's one
- 30:09Speaker 3: of the great things about my early life is I
- 30:11Speaker 3: experienced so much great music and art. A lot of
- 30:15Speaker 3: it was art that was coming along and so happy.
- 30:18Speaker 3: A lot of those bands are still with us too,
- 30:19Speaker 3: and I'm still a huge fan of all those bands.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Do you have any radio outlets now? Do you ever
- 30:24Speaker 1: get the edge to get behind the mic and do anything? Now?
- 30:26Speaker 3: What you guys, podcasting is the first exciting thing I've
- 30:29Speaker 3: seen because, for one thing, you can do whatever you want.
- 30:32Speaker 3: It is the thing we all complained about in radio
- 30:36Speaker 3: when we were having our hands held by the corporation
- 30:39Speaker 3: quote unquote corporation saying you gotta do this, you got
- 30:41Speaker 3: to do that. You gotta do this, you got that.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Don't go crazy, you're going to offend people. Don't talk
- 30:47Speaker 3: about this and I'll talk about that. I'm like, you're
- 30:48Speaker 3: tying my hands. It's not interesting. And then we had
- 30:50Speaker 3: to be creative within those confines. Now it's great because
- 30:54Speaker 3: it's completely dependent on your personality usually your ability to
- 30:58Speaker 3: interview or at least do bits. So I think it's
- 31:01Speaker 3: it's a whole brave new world podcasting. I mean, if
- 31:04Speaker 3: I was going to do something, I would do something
- 31:06Speaker 3: like this, but I'd probably do like an interview show
- 31:08Speaker 3: or something. I really loved doing interviews. I interviewed a
- 31:11Speaker 3: million artists. I still have the tapes. I just can't
- 31:14Speaker 3: do a podcast because I don't know the clearance, you know,
- 31:16Speaker 3: to put the music on.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Best interview, go.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Oh, I'll take the story up to the interview too.
- 31:22Speaker 3: It had to be Chris Robinson of the Black Crows.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Cool, who were playing music Fest this year.
- 31:28Speaker 2: They played a few years ago, five years ago. Maybe
- 31:31Speaker 2: I saw him down.
- 31:31Speaker 1: At they like Bethlehem.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Yeah, God, they're an amazing band.
- 31:34Speaker 3: So their second album was coming out, you know, the
- 31:37Speaker 3: first album slowly became massive, and then the second album's
- 31:41Speaker 3: about to come out. They had just released a remedy
- 31:43Speaker 3: you know what you know is just a great song,
- 31:45Speaker 3: fucking balls out. I mean we were flipping out over
- 31:48Speaker 3: this song, playing the shit out of it. So he
- 31:50Speaker 3: and Rich Robinson are coming in for an interview along
- 31:52Speaker 3: with their record guy, and they are going to be
- 31:54Speaker 3: on my show for the whole as long as I
- 31:56Speaker 3: want them. Right, this is really cool. I'm really excited,
- 31:58Speaker 3: really getting anxious, getting aamped up, really excited to hang
- 32:01Speaker 3: with these guys. I had hung out with them before this.
- 32:04Speaker 3: They had actually played on their first tour through the
- 32:06Speaker 3: area at a place called the Airport Music Hall in Allentown.
- 32:10Speaker 3: I think the record was out a week and after
- 32:12Speaker 3: the show, I was like, you guys are great, went
- 32:14Speaker 3: up to the dressing room, hung out with them for
- 32:16Speaker 3: a while, talked to classic music.
- 32:18Speaker 1: You know.
- 32:18Speaker 3: They were like the fans of the same stuff I
- 32:20Speaker 3: was growing up, like those early Rod Stewart albums, which
- 32:23Speaker 3: are all very raw, you know, and that's the kind
- 32:25Speaker 3: of vibe they're trying to capture on the first album,
- 32:27Speaker 3: and they succeeded really well. And the second album, I thought,
- 32:30Speaker 3: did that times ten But anyway, so I'm really excited
- 32:32Speaker 3: about seeing these guys. I'm standing out at the window
- 32:36Speaker 3: that overlooked the parking lot and I see this big
- 32:39Speaker 3: car pull up, and I kid you not, the door
- 32:42Speaker 3: opened and smoke poured out of it. It was a
- 32:45Speaker 3: Cheech and Chong movie right in front of my eyes.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I couldn't believe it. I started laughing my ass off.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I said, this is gonna be great. Their eyes were
- 32:54Speaker 3: as red as that candle wax. It was great. But man,
- 32:58Speaker 3: that's a dude who will just riff when you ask
- 33:01Speaker 3: him one question. Him and Jeane Simmons a kiss. You
- 33:03Speaker 3: can kind of like, so, how you doing today, and
- 33:05Speaker 3: just like sit back and relax.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:07Speaker 3: I mean, they'll talk forever, and they're great at it.
- 33:10Speaker 3: They're incredibly entertaining. That was a great interview. They didn't
- 33:14Speaker 3: do an in studio performance. They weren't prepared to do
- 33:16Speaker 3: that at that point. We were set up at Zzo
- 33:18Speaker 3: that we could do performance in the studio. You know,
- 33:21Speaker 3: did you ever see that studio back in the day. Yeah,
- 33:23Speaker 3: I remember that you would have seen it, but I
- 33:25Speaker 3: had little feet in there. Did in studio performance, which
- 33:27Speaker 3: is great. Matthew Sweet came in ironically enough that I
- 33:30Speaker 3: worked with Matthew At. He was on the same label
- 33:32Speaker 3: as Tool, so I worked his records right after the
- 33:35Speaker 3: Tool records. But Matthew did a great in studio performance
- 33:39Speaker 3: that was fantastic.
- 33:40Speaker 1: It's so cool.
- 33:40Speaker 3: I had all kinds of cool indie artists coming through,
- 33:42Speaker 3: Like I was all about, like, get everybody in here,
- 33:45Speaker 3: get everybody up here. That's another thing I don't hear
- 33:47Speaker 3: going on in terrestrial radio anymore either. Back in the day,
- 33:50Speaker 3: the live radio, oh my god, it was great. We
- 33:52Speaker 3: did a ton of fundraising as EZO two. One of
- 33:55Speaker 3: the good things.
- 33:56Speaker 2: People would show up for it, you know, dude, Like
- 33:58Speaker 2: you said, it was a lifestyle before, I very much
- 34:00Speaker 2: believe that. That's so active it was.
- 34:02Speaker 3: I mean, people would come up the next day in
- 34:04Speaker 3: the grocery store and talk to you about what you
- 34:06Speaker 3: said on the other day before.
- 34:07Speaker 2: That was so funny, so great. You're out of control, dude,
- 34:10Speaker 2: you know that kind of stuff.
- 34:11Speaker 1: It's great.
- 34:12Speaker 2: It's like real human connection. Yeah, that's exactly what it's
- 34:14Speaker 2: all about. And because it was live, you know. So
- 34:17Speaker 2: this is one of my greatest memories. We had a
- 34:19Speaker 2: fundraiser for muscular Dystropee. Like I said, we did a ton.
- 34:22Speaker 2: I mean every month we were doing something. We could
- 34:24Speaker 2: do big numbers for these local charities.
- 34:27Speaker 3: So we did this thing at Muscular Dystrophee at the
- 34:29Speaker 3: Lehigh Valley Mall and I did my show laying on
- 34:32Speaker 3: a table and we asked people to come stack quarters
- 34:34Speaker 3: around me. Now I'm six four, that's a lot of
- 34:37Speaker 3: area to cover, right, But I mean we had a
- 34:40Speaker 3: wall that was probably two feet tall, a quarters you know,
- 34:44Speaker 3: around you and all around.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Wow.
- 34:46Speaker 3: And that was like many thousands of dollars. And they
- 34:48Speaker 3: were so appreciative, and you know what, it took two hours. Yeah,
- 34:52Speaker 3: you know it's great, just good badger people on the air.
- 34:55Speaker 3: They're walking by this from malls mattered, you know, they're
- 34:58Speaker 3: walking by. They're just taking their loose change out putting
- 35:00Speaker 3: it on the table. It's so simple, wow, you know.
- 35:03Speaker 3: And that's the way we gave back. We I Rick
- 35:06Speaker 3: Strauss might have an accounting of the amount of money
- 35:10Speaker 3: we raised while we were the team there, but I
- 35:13Speaker 3: mean it had to be an extraordinary amount. Bullvine Bengo
- 35:15Speaker 3: was another good fundraiser too. What you do is you
- 35:18Speaker 3: go out to a parking lot and you draw squares
- 35:20Speaker 3: on the parking lot and you number every square and
- 35:23Speaker 3: you make a big area, and then you allow cows
- 35:26Speaker 3: to roam it, and people bet on the numbers wherever
- 35:31Speaker 3: the cow is.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Shit, that's bingo. I was like, that's the most genius thing.
- 35:37Speaker 2: I don't know. I was like, they did that for
- 35:41Speaker 2: like three years in a row, and I was like,
- 35:42Speaker 2: this is the most genius thing. And nothing happens.
- 35:45Speaker 3: The cow just roams around, he eats a little grass
- 35:48Speaker 3: and wanders the parking lot. And but Bearman was so
- 35:52Speaker 3: good at just talking about it on the air.
- 35:55Speaker 2: He was another great natural. I mean, you know why
- 35:57Speaker 2: we miss him.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Wow. I could sit here and listen to you to
- 36:00Speaker 1: radio stories all day.
- 36:01Speaker 4: But.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I wasn't going to give you the butt. There's no butt, Yeah,
- 36:07Speaker 2: no bus. You tell them very well. Oh you know,
- 36:10Speaker 2: you're a great storyteller. What a cool career.
- 36:12Speaker 1: It was fun. Thanks and such a cool guy. You know.
- 36:14Speaker 2: I talk about Todd very fondly whenever I and I
- 36:17Speaker 2: do reference you a lot.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Believe it or not.
- 36:19Speaker 2: There are people in my career that were just like
- 36:22Speaker 2: super into doing quality work and actually like gave a
- 36:25Speaker 2: shit copy production sound everything. He and I would just
- 36:29Speaker 2: sit together at my computer and just like produce spots together.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I love that, Mike.
- 36:34Speaker 2: You were so good with that.
- 36:36Speaker 3: You were like a good foil for me because you
- 36:38Speaker 3: also cared and you also wanted to find just that
- 36:40Speaker 3: right sound effect. But then I had a problem with
- 36:43Speaker 3: you when you were totally cool about it. When we'd
- 36:45Speaker 3: do a take, you would cut out every pause in
- 36:49Speaker 3: the voice in the beginning. Yeah, you didn't let anything breathe. Yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 3: And I was like, dude, let it breathe. It creates
- 36:56Speaker 3: its own motion there. The parts you don't play are
- 36:58Speaker 3: as important as the parts you Yeah, you know, And
- 37:01Speaker 3: that's like something we all learn.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Well, I learned a lot and uh in my career,
- 37:06Speaker 2: and a lot from you, So thank you. And I
- 37:08Speaker 2: think I took your advice back then, and I think
- 37:11Speaker 2: I did a pretty decent job.
- 37:12Speaker 1: We love having the radio nerds on the podcast.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we can literally sit here for another two hours
- 37:16Speaker 2: and just listen to talk to you what we ought
- 37:17Speaker 2: to do to.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Start a new podcast just for talking about the radio
- 37:20Speaker 1: nerd bullshit, you know what I mean?
- 37:22Speaker 2: That's that's a whole What else do you guys talk about?
- 37:24Speaker 2: Who else do you talk to who have we had
- 37:26Speaker 2: on so far? We did Bob Holder. We did Tyler Rothrock,
- 37:29Speaker 2: local comedian. Oh Bob's also a local comedian, Blake Dannin.
- 37:35Speaker 2: We had George Whacker of Lehigh Allley with Love. We
- 37:39Speaker 2: had my sister randomly for Father's Day. And now you
- 37:42Speaker 2: and now you, Oh wow, Thank you so much for
- 37:44Speaker 2: coming on. Todd Halft Episode seven Blazed
