- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:11Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. A lot of body judging on Matt Jones yesterday.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Oh it's interesting that after I got destroyed all of
- 0:25Speaker 1: last year for claiming that he probably could use a
- 0:28Speaker 1: little nutritional help, he looks really good. He's not, He's gone.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Who said it, Kendrick Bourne? Can't you imagine that? You're like, Okay,
- 0:38Speaker 1: watch me work out. Joe Judge offensive genius, the hot
- 0:43Speaker 1: new name in offensive football. But what if Brian Hoyer
- 0:47Speaker 1: called the plays based on what? Because he's Brian Hoyer,
- 0:51Speaker 1: he has those funky little hats. I wish everyone could
- 0:54Speaker 1: have seen Mike and his chair apprehensible because I thought
- 0:56Speaker 1: it might get made fun of carrying it out there,
- 0:58Speaker 1: but he did every cheese. No, Chunky's it's a movie theater,
- 1:02Speaker 1: but it's kind of like overWe I hear Chunky, and
- 1:04Speaker 1: I like, I start seeing red from seventh grade? Who's Chunky?
- 1:07Speaker 1: You're Chunky? Finished? This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan
- 1:16Speaker 1: all Right, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:19Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium, and I think everybody has Memorial Day
- 1:23Speaker 1: on their mind. The long weekend, right finally, yeah, some
- 1:27Speaker 1: kids sports free, just a free weekend for the first
- 1:30Speaker 1: time in about two months. No kids, I got nothing really,
- 1:33Speaker 1: no like tournaments and tournaments. Yeah, I don't have tournaments
- 1:37Speaker 1: this weekend either. I used to be Memorial Day was
- 1:40Speaker 1: big for the soccer to yes, huge, huge my town, Holliston.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I would always meet people Memoire. I used to go
- 1:46Speaker 1: to the Memorial Day tournament Halston because they would just
- 1:49Speaker 1: do everybody would descend upon not anymore. Well, my kids
- 1:53Speaker 1: don't play soccer, nor do mine. Oh so perhaps it's
- 1:56Speaker 1: still going on. But yeah, no, it's gonna enjoy soccer
- 2:01Speaker 1: a little pool time. You got your pool gone. The pools,
- 2:03Speaker 1: open pools, open, open pools, open water. Good water's cold
- 2:08Speaker 1: cold because it's still getting cold at night. That's okay. Yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 1: get some steaks, grill them. Yeah. I felt like a
- 2:13Speaker 1: Stanza when I had a vacuum in the pool last week.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It was cold, little shrinkage going on. You weren't even
- 2:19Speaker 1: in the pool, You're just standing next to it. So yeah, yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and then uh saw Maddie pe walking out us down
- 2:29Speaker 1: here earlier, so I know they're they're still continuing OTAs today,
- 2:32Speaker 1: so we'll get a look at them on Tuesday. So
- 2:34Speaker 1: I guess we should say too that the show will
- 2:36Speaker 1: be Wednesday. Yeah, we made that decision. Fred was nice
- 2:40Speaker 1: enough to grant Mike and I the practice extends into
- 2:44Speaker 1: the showtime, and we figured, you know, rather than changed
- 2:48Speaker 1: the show, and you know, having at two or three
- 2:50Speaker 1: in the afternoon, you guys can wrap up what happened
- 2:53Speaker 1: at you know, get the blobservations up all that stuff,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and then we'll have a full show. We have, like,
- 2:58Speaker 1: you know, a few hours to ruminate on, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: full show on Wednesday of next week. So we'll be
- 3:04Speaker 1: on Wednesday and Thursdays Wednesday. Yeah, so next week Wednesday
- 3:09Speaker 1: and Thursday, twelve to two, just so everybody knows, be good,
- 3:14Speaker 1: get get another look. See if there's anybody else. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 1: curious to see that, you know, some of those those
- 3:18Speaker 1: kinds of things. You know, Um, we had some players
- 3:23Speaker 1: that were around on Monday, but we're kind of not
- 3:26Speaker 1: really involved, you know, like Peppers and mcgron, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: Pierre Strong. I think there was you know, various levels
- 3:34Speaker 1: of player be curious to see if there's any progression
- 3:38Speaker 1: in that regard. You know, when we move ahead to
- 3:40Speaker 1: next week, I try not to get too carried away,
- 3:42Speaker 1: and mandatory mini camp will be the next week. So
- 3:44Speaker 1: that made me give you a little bit more in
- 3:46Speaker 1: terms of the attendance of some of the veteran guys
- 3:48Speaker 1: that weren't there. Maybe they show up. If they're not there,
- 3:51Speaker 1: that might be something. And it's hard to know too,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you know, along those lines, Mike, you know who's there,
- 3:57Speaker 1: but you don't really see there that you know. I mean,
- 4:00Speaker 1: I don't think both kickers decided to I'm not going
- 4:04Speaker 1: to throw that. It's it's it's voluntary. I'm not going
- 4:07Speaker 1: I'm sure they were kicking somewhere. Yeah, probably you know,
- 4:10Speaker 1: inside or something or somewhere that we just didn't see them,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you know. So you know, there's fifteen twenty guys that
- 4:16Speaker 1: we didn't see. I think on Monday, I'd be curious
- 4:20Speaker 1: how many of those guys actually decided they're not going
- 4:22Speaker 1: to OTAs or maybe it was just a day that
- 4:25Speaker 1: now I can't today I got something. I mean, I've
- 4:26Speaker 1: seen plenty of times just random walking on the baby
- 4:29Speaker 1: having a baby six month process in the offseason having
- 4:33Speaker 1: a baby. But you know, once you get them to mandatory,
- 4:36Speaker 1: medi can't maybe get a little bit clear of a picture.
- 4:39Speaker 1: But it'd be good to get back out there. I
- 4:40Speaker 1: feel like you get so overwhelmed that first day and
- 4:42Speaker 1: the numbers are new, when guys you know over here
- 4:45Speaker 1: and who's this and you don't really have a sense
- 4:47Speaker 1: of everybody yet, and it just gets so tough year
- 4:50Speaker 1: to year two where you always have like an offensive
- 4:52Speaker 1: linemen in number fifty eight that you know, it's just
- 4:54Speaker 1: you can't is that on when you like, is that
- 4:57Speaker 1: they all just kind of start to blend together a
- 4:58Speaker 1: little bit. I mean that that is really uh, it's
- 5:02Speaker 1: it's annoying beyond beyond belief at this point, like trying
- 5:07Speaker 1: to like, you know, get the smaller guys that are
- 5:09Speaker 1: in the big numbers, and you know, like, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: there's the poor punter out there. Who the punter there's
- 5:15Speaker 1: a second punter in camp Freddie Yeah, and I thank you.
- 5:19Speaker 1: The name was escaping me at the moment. He does
- 5:22Speaker 1: not looked like a punter, you know, he's not the
- 5:24Speaker 1: tip of it. Doesn't look like Jake Bailey at all. Um.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You know, and he's a little stocky and he's got
- 5:30Speaker 1: like a sixty something number, right, uh, sixty two. He
- 5:33Speaker 1: looks like he could be an offensive linement. I'm not exaggeray,
- 5:35Speaker 1: he's a little short um, but he's a little thick
- 5:39Speaker 1: for an offensive alignement. Just and as I have said
- 5:42Speaker 1: all last year with Mac Jones, I know Doey, I know, overweight,
- 5:46Speaker 1: like you know, like this guy doesn't look like a
- 5:48Speaker 1: punter to me. And you know back up long snapper
- 5:52Speaker 1: two number seventy two. I said, you know, there's just
- 5:54Speaker 1: a lot to look at it focused on Tuesday and
- 5:58Speaker 1: a little bit more able to to watch things, but
- 6:00Speaker 1: you know talking about you know, scheme stuff and what
- 6:04Speaker 1: are they doing? And that's I was like, this is
- 6:05Speaker 1: just a snapshot of like two weeks where they're out
- 6:08Speaker 1: there every day. You know, what are the what are
- 6:11Speaker 1: the chances that they were like, well, let's wait till
- 6:13Speaker 1: the media is there to really unveil the new stuff
- 6:15Speaker 1: that we're doing, Like we'll do it that day, right
- 6:17Speaker 1: and don't think and rightly so don't think Bill doesn't
- 6:20Speaker 1: think along those right, he knows the day the media
- 6:23Speaker 1: is there. The question is is if he decides to
- 6:26Speaker 1: put something boring in, or if he puts something completely
- 6:28Speaker 1: extraneous in just to screw with everybody too, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 1: like like that's more common than all right, So today's
- 6:34Speaker 1: the day we'll put in all the secret stuff. Yeah,
- 6:36Speaker 1: the day the media is there here. Yeah, you know
- 6:38Speaker 1: we're really thinking of moving you know, so and sod
- 6:41Speaker 1: this position. Let's do it on the day the media
- 6:43Speaker 1: is there. You know. That's why I think the mini camp.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You get three consecutive days, and you know, it's a
- 6:48Speaker 1: little bit harder to hide stuff and everybody's supposed to
- 6:51Speaker 1: be there. So I'm I'm more this. It's just so
- 6:55Speaker 1: hard like people are and I hey, I love me
- 6:58Speaker 1: some five things to watch kind of post some stuff,
- 7:00Speaker 1: but like five things to watch it ota is really
- 7:02Speaker 1: like are you really? It's who's there? That that's kind
- 7:05Speaker 1: of it. Like after that, I came up with way
- 7:07Speaker 1: more than five things don't hate. I don't know what
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'm doing next week, but I had a good one week.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Forty seven things to see. I didn't do that. Does
- 7:16Speaker 1: Thornton look any faster? Has he gotten faster and gotten up?
- 7:21Speaker 1: I like, has a risk put out any weight? Yet
- 7:24Speaker 1: risks are still very very skinny. Yeah, yes, so, as
- 7:27Speaker 1: you can guess, we don't have much to talk about it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I got one thing I thought was the practice squad stuff.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I thought that was a little bit of news yesterday
- 7:35Speaker 1: of of interest, which I'm glad I missed it. I'm glad.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So there instead of fourteen, they're up to up to
- 7:40Speaker 1: sixteen members of the practice squad. It wasn't sixteen was
- 7:43Speaker 1: supposed to there was. It was supposed to go as
- 7:46Speaker 1: the old CBA, the progression each year it went from
- 7:49Speaker 1: like twelve and then this year it was supposed to
- 7:50Speaker 1: be fourteen. But so they did away with that. They said,
- 7:53Speaker 1: let's just go straight to sixteen. I think it was
- 7:54Speaker 1: going to go to sixteen like next year maybe, so
- 7:56Speaker 1: they kept it at sixteen. So they kept it at
- 7:58Speaker 1: six Its been the last two right yep. And so
- 8:01Speaker 1: then you can elevate h three times and you can
- 8:03Speaker 1: have six veterans. So there's you know, they kept that,
- 8:05Speaker 1: which I mean, I'm a huge fan of it. I
- 8:07Speaker 1: think it's great just for being able to give veteran
- 8:10Speaker 1: guys jobs, having some some security on your roster of
- 8:14Speaker 1: backups who are experienced and you know, have the ability
- 8:17Speaker 1: to protect people a little bit. So, um, I think
- 8:19Speaker 1: it's I think it's good, especially for a team like
- 8:21Speaker 1: the Patriots where they're you know a little bit in transition,
- 8:24Speaker 1: they're able to you know, have a bigger roster and
- 8:26Speaker 1: hold on to more of those guys. I think it's
- 8:28Speaker 1: it's a good thing. I agree. I have a question.
- 8:31Speaker 1: It's more of a content question for fans. But you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: there was news yesterday that the NFL wants to start
- 8:37Speaker 1: like an NFL Plus type thing, you know, similar to
- 8:40Speaker 1: what everybody else. And so my question that I'd love
- 8:44Speaker 1: to get input from fans on is, other than having
- 8:48Speaker 1: access to any game at any time, what would you
- 8:51Speaker 1: be what kype of content would you be willing to
- 8:53Speaker 1: pay extra for or just pay for you know, you know, um,
- 8:57Speaker 1: and again outside of the game, you know, yeah, because
- 9:01Speaker 1: I think a lot of people would be willing to
- 9:03Speaker 1: pay you know, five bucks a month to have access
- 9:05Speaker 1: to every game, you know, sure, Um, But outside of that,
- 9:09Speaker 1: what what would you be willing to pay money for?
- 9:11Speaker 1: I mean, I would love it if they could fix
- 9:14Speaker 1: the All twenty two stuff. I mean last year, I know,
- 9:16Speaker 1: they completely redid it and they started from scratch on it. Um,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and it's just it it's really tough to watch. It's
- 9:22Speaker 1: really tough to watch now. You know, you used to
- 9:24Speaker 1: be able to search by a player and and and
- 9:28Speaker 1: categorize it by plays, and hey, you know, the Patriots
- 9:30Speaker 1: just signed Kendrick Bourne. Let's put let's search him. Let's
- 9:34Speaker 1: see all his big plays that he's had over the
- 9:36Speaker 1: last three years, and you could search that and you
- 9:37Speaker 1: can watch it on the All twenty two when you
- 9:39Speaker 1: pop up. You know now the way it is, it's
- 9:41Speaker 1: it's you gotta pick which camera you want. Do you
- 9:43Speaker 1: want the end zone camera, do you want the big
- 9:45Speaker 1: guy in the sky, and then it just kind of
- 9:47Speaker 1: runs through the plays you can't search. So, I mean,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I know this is the nerd part of the program,
- 9:52Speaker 1: but but for me, that was just something that that
- 9:55Speaker 1: that that completely got taken apart and just kind of
- 9:58Speaker 1: thrown back together and it's nowhere near as it used
- 10:01Speaker 1: to be. I'm not aware of all that stuff, but
- 10:03Speaker 1: I would agree with Mike on that. I think if
- 10:05Speaker 1: they had that feature that was easily sortable and surgeable
- 10:08Speaker 1: and they took it away, that's that's a step in
- 10:11Speaker 1: the wrong direction. I would say, fred Danton, your request. Um,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I would be interested in paying for something, And I
- 10:19Speaker 1: know this probably is unlikely to happen, but something hard
- 10:22Speaker 1: knocks ish for behind for my team? Can I get
- 10:26Speaker 1: any behind the scenes content that's not public? Now? I
- 10:29Speaker 1: know that that's a huge ask, right, I'm not stupid,
- 10:32Speaker 1: especially for organizations like hours that are pretty guarded with
- 10:35Speaker 1: you know, the the behind the curtain stuff. But anything
- 10:39Speaker 1: that I could get that's not public uh publicly accessed,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I'd be willing to pay five What about what about
- 10:46Speaker 1: stats wise like anything? Do you care about that, like
- 10:50Speaker 1: the next gen stuff? For any of that? I mean,
- 10:52Speaker 1: I think I'm a bad example for that because I
- 10:55Speaker 1: think there are a lot of people who love that,
- 10:57Speaker 1: love that stuff and love you know, if you could
- 10:59Speaker 1: incorporate PFF or advanced the analytics kind of stuff into it.
- 11:03Speaker 1: But not not really for me. That that's not something
- 11:06Speaker 1: I'm really dying for. I like to be able to
- 11:08Speaker 1: just kind of watch it and interpret it myself. It's
- 11:10Speaker 1: not for me either, But for the people that do
- 11:12Speaker 1: like it, I think they have it For those kinds
- 11:15Speaker 1: of things, I think they can pay for. Right. What
- 11:17Speaker 1: about gambling? Anything there? I think? Can I say? I
- 11:20Speaker 1: think I think anything and everything. If you think, I
- 11:23Speaker 1: think there's an enormous I have this idea for you know,
- 11:28Speaker 1: the league can't actually take the bets, you know what
- 11:30Speaker 1: I mean, Like they can't get into the business of
- 11:32Speaker 1: being a bookie, not yet, right, but but um, I
- 11:37Speaker 1: have an idea for the league to build this engine
- 11:39Speaker 1: or engine as I say. And what this does is
- 11:44Speaker 1: it you go in there, you pay like a subscriber fee,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and it offers you all the bets that all the
- 11:51Speaker 1: approved bookies are offering, like MGM and Caesar's and all that,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and so you can look at everything from who's gonna
- 11:58Speaker 1: win to over and under two the little microprop bets,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and you use this engine to place your bets with
- 12:04Speaker 1: these approved you know houses. And the engine also tracks
- 12:09Speaker 1: your bet on game day, so you know, during the
- 12:11Speaker 1: game you're watching the game, you can also see how
- 12:12Speaker 1: your bets are doing. Am I winning? Am I losing?
- 12:15Speaker 1: What's the probability of me making money today? And you
- 12:18Speaker 1: can like you know, go in and make more bets,
- 12:20Speaker 1: you know. So it's this like total like sort of
- 12:23Speaker 1: platform that manages your game day gambling. Um. And you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: the league, what how the league makes money is the
- 12:30Speaker 1: Caesars and the MGMs of the world pay to be
- 12:34Speaker 1: part of this engine, you know, so my, my, my
- 12:37Speaker 1: offerings are being exposed to you know, the person um,
- 12:42Speaker 1: but the league doesn't take any vig or anything like
- 12:44Speaker 1: that obviously. You know what would would would part of
- 12:48Speaker 1: it be that, you know, I'm getting these odds from MGM,
- 12:51Speaker 1: but I'm getting a's part of it. You you can shop.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And also, you know, prop bets aren't the same with
- 12:58Speaker 1: every house, so like MGM might be doing a certain
- 13:02Speaker 1: type of prop bed and Caesars is doing a completely
- 13:04Speaker 1: different one. Oh, this is an interesting one. Yeah, if
- 13:08Speaker 1: you could sort by game down on this bed, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 1: for you know, when I you know, dabbled a little
- 13:13Speaker 1: bit in college football gambling way back when like I
- 13:16Speaker 1: know I'm going to be stuck watching this game. I
- 13:18Speaker 1: can sort by the game, pull that game up and
- 13:20Speaker 1: gives me everything, the line, the props, everything right there,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and I can shut and this manages for you. And
- 13:25Speaker 1: so at any point in time during the day, you
- 13:27Speaker 1: can see how am I doing? Am I up? Am
- 13:29Speaker 1: I down? You know? And what about like draft Kings
- 13:33Speaker 1: or you know, daily fantasy where you have a team,
- 13:35Speaker 1: is there could there be Ye, I think I wasn't
- 13:38Speaker 1: you know. I think that might be overcomplicating it a
- 13:41Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, you know, um, but this is for
- 13:45Speaker 1: like straight betting with the with the sports books. Yeah
- 13:48Speaker 1: you know, yeah, well I think if the comparison, you know,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and having one stop shop for for everything, if if
- 13:53Speaker 1: you if you're into that kind of I like it.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I'm not the next I mean, yeah, it's again, it's
- 13:56Speaker 1: not geared to me, but I can understand the appeal,
- 14:00Speaker 1: you know, like if you know, like and you can
- 14:02Speaker 1: you can do the micro bets, like it's a buck.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna do a buck on this prop bet, and
- 14:07Speaker 1: so I have fifty dollars that I'm gonna play with
- 14:09Speaker 1: on game day and I'm gonna spread it out and
- 14:11Speaker 1: then see how I'm doing. You know. Yeah. It's like
- 14:14Speaker 1: you see on Twitter all the time, you know. I
- 14:16Speaker 1: think Ravel, Darren Ravel always tweets out these outrageous parlays
- 14:21Speaker 1: that get hit, you know, like sixteen team parley, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 1: like and you're win fifty grand. But this is a
- 14:26Speaker 1: good way to like track it. You have it in
- 14:29Speaker 1: an easy yeah, easily digest. How's my parlay doing up?
- 14:33Speaker 1: I just lost or I'm still in the running. You know,
- 14:36Speaker 1: all I need is these two other things. But you
- 14:37Speaker 1: have it all in front of you, decide what you
- 14:39Speaker 1: want to do, yes, even before you know, like obviously
- 14:41Speaker 1: anybody can track their own bets, but like I have
- 14:44Speaker 1: all of my options very easily digestible right in front
- 14:48Speaker 1: of me. I think people would pay. I think, you know,
- 14:50Speaker 1: this is probably part to have this engine available to them,
- 14:54Speaker 1: and I think the the sports books would pay to
- 14:57Speaker 1: be part of it. Yeah, it guess. I mean it's
- 14:59Speaker 1: can convenience. I don't know enough about people's gambling habits
- 15:03Speaker 1: of you know, are you kind of dedicated to one
- 15:06Speaker 1: particular place, like I just I only go with this
- 15:09Speaker 1: outlet you know that and this you set up an
- 15:12Speaker 1: account and so then it's convenient. And how much of
- 15:15Speaker 1: that is done? Like again I'm asking because I don't
- 15:17Speaker 1: I don't do any of this, but like I know,
- 15:19Speaker 1: like draft kings sites are huge now with all their
- 15:22Speaker 1: like the tradition not just fantasy, daily fantasy, but regular
- 15:26Speaker 1: sports betting, right, I mean, how much of that has
- 15:28Speaker 1: already done? Well, it's done. But again, when you're with
- 15:31Speaker 1: draft Kings, you're just doing DraftKings you're just doing their book. Yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 1: you know this exposes you to everyone's books. That's part
- 15:38Speaker 1: of it. And like you said, you can shop, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 1: like I can get minus seven here, but I can
- 15:43Speaker 1: get seven and a half year. I'm gonna put it
- 15:46Speaker 1: with this one. If there was a Draft Kings kind
- 15:49Speaker 1: of element to it, I wonder if they're by they
- 15:51Speaker 1: a service to have a consultant, you know, somebody privately
- 15:54Speaker 1: or whatever can look at your team and say advisor, advisor,
- 15:58Speaker 1: and I'll give you some some tips. I'm a consultant.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I consultant. Well, I go back to you know, my
- 16:03Speaker 1: cousins were all way into it, and we went to
- 16:06Speaker 1: the Patriots forty nine Ers game back in twenty sixteen.
- 16:09Speaker 1: You know, it's great family trip. Let's all stay in
- 16:11Speaker 1: the hotel, we get up game day morning and there
- 16:14Speaker 1: are they got like spreadsheets out there. I mean it
- 16:17Speaker 1: was a whole thing for them though. And the multiple
- 16:19Speaker 1: lineups and you know, trying to find that one key
- 16:23Speaker 1: random dude who's gonna go off that one day that
- 16:26Speaker 1: that seems like everything in Daily Fantasy. So it's a
- 16:29Speaker 1: it's a huge world, huge world, sure, you know. So
- 16:32Speaker 1: again I'm throwing out there. What would you be willing
- 16:35Speaker 1: to pay money for in terms of content or things
- 16:37Speaker 1: like this. You know this isn't necessary content, but it's
- 16:40Speaker 1: a tool that you know. Uh, and Mike brought up,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know, an old San Francisco game from twenty sixteen.
- 16:49Speaker 1: In terms of news in the league, there was some
- 16:51Speaker 1: news yesterday had not really involving the Patriots by Colin Kaepernick,
- 16:55Speaker 1: you know, supposedly getting a tryout with the with the
- 16:58Speaker 1: Raiders Josh McDaniels deciding to bring him in to give
- 17:00Speaker 1: him a look and see what comes and what do
- 17:04Speaker 1: I gotta do? Seriously, well, you brought the forty nine
- 17:08Speaker 1: ers up. I thought you were going to talk about
- 17:09Speaker 1: that linebacker that got into the thing Law. It didn't.
- 17:15Speaker 1: The kid kept asking what did I What did I say? What?
- 17:18Speaker 1: You know? What? What? He never would he never got
- 17:20Speaker 1: into it. I didn't see it. So I guess Javon
- 17:23Speaker 1: Kin Law has had a problem with the the Sports
- 17:27Speaker 1: Illustrated San Francisco guy, I think his name is Grant
- 17:30Speaker 1: Cohen or something like cone Um and he sort of
- 17:36Speaker 1: confronted him on the practice field the other day. And
- 17:39Speaker 1: I don't know, like I generally, I generally I'm on
- 17:43Speaker 1: the side of the player on these kinds of things.
- 17:46Speaker 1: But then I guess he was, you know, so he
- 17:49Speaker 1: confronted the guy and whatever, and you know, that was that.
- 17:54Speaker 1: And then the guy was doing like a video podcast,
- 17:56Speaker 1: like a video report, and they told Ken Law that
- 18:00Speaker 1: he's out doing it. So he he goes, I want
- 18:02Speaker 1: to be part of this. I want to be on it.
- 18:04Speaker 1: So I guess he went on it, you know, a
- 18:06Speaker 1: via zoom or something like that, right, Yeah, did you
- 18:08Speaker 1: see this? I didn't see it. I heard it. Yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 1: And he just like Fred's right, he just like the
- 18:14Speaker 1: guy kept saying, well, what did I write? What did
- 18:16Speaker 1: I say? And he just wanted to be like a big, intimidating,
- 18:20Speaker 1: tough guy, you know, while eating, like I'm tougher than you,
- 18:24Speaker 1: Like he's got food in his mouth. Yeah. It was like, yeah,
- 18:27Speaker 1: you know, you know, you you coward, you cowared like
- 18:30Speaker 1: a little like respect my name. It's like, what did
- 18:34Speaker 1: I do to disrespect? And he wouldn't answer. He never answered.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So I don't know if the guy is like a
- 18:39Speaker 1: muck ray. I find him. Hard to believe that anybody
- 18:42Speaker 1: nowadays around the league, especially anybody doing like video podcasts,
- 18:46Speaker 1: is killing the players, Like I'm sorry, they're all so
- 18:50Speaker 1: pro player, pro team. Now. I don't really think that
- 18:53Speaker 1: anybody could have done anything that was that bad. So
- 18:55Speaker 1: kin Law came off really poorly, I thought. And it's
- 18:58Speaker 1: not really sports illustrated anymore, like you, but it's sports
- 19:02Speaker 1: illustrated like dot forty nine ers, right man, Like every
- 19:06Speaker 1: buddy that does our pre and postgame pregame show from Miami, Paul, Yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 1: he I think does some of that stuff for Sports
- 19:14Speaker 1: Illustrated Miami. Is that what? Oh? No, Henry, I don't
- 19:19Speaker 1: know who the Henry is Henry that guy for the Today,
- 19:23Speaker 1: But it's like kind of similar ways that they've tacked,
- 19:26Speaker 1: but they all have like a blog team by he
- 19:29Speaker 1: might be a USA. It's so funny, you know. You know,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you call it a podcast and you you do something
- 19:34Speaker 1: for a half hour an hour, and all that does
- 19:36Speaker 1: is take it one step above just posting on social media.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I mean, anybody can do it, you know, but it
- 19:42Speaker 1: gives it a little bit more legitimacy. Like nowadays, like
- 19:46Speaker 1: all the controversial stuff is being set on these stupid podcasts. Yeah,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know, like because people get on it and they
- 19:52Speaker 1: they act more relaxed and whether you know what's from
- 19:55Speaker 1: the top like Lebron James show, you know, down to
- 19:58Speaker 1: like this guy. You know, you feel like you could
- 20:01Speaker 1: say whatever you want and people are getting in trouble.
- 20:04Speaker 1: And I got the opinion, I mean the impression I
- 20:07Speaker 1: should say, um that it might have been like injury related,
- 20:11Speaker 1: like he didn't like that he was talking about his
- 20:13Speaker 1: injury or something like that, something like you said, I
- 20:16Speaker 1: was in the training room and I wasn't in the
- 20:17Speaker 1: training room. Yeah, training rooms, not even here, something like
- 20:20Speaker 1: I don't even know, like why that would have gotten
- 20:22Speaker 1: him so mad. And then someone had said because I
- 20:24Speaker 1: was listening to this untoucher and rich, I assume that's
- 20:26Speaker 1: what Fred was hearing it too, Um not my show.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Never really been on that show, um. But someone had
- 20:35Speaker 1: looked back and saw that other other players were upset
- 20:40Speaker 1: with this guy. And I think Deebo Samuel was like saying,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you know, calling it uh FN right, And I assume
- 20:48Speaker 1: that that Oh, no, FR fake reporter. I assumed that
- 20:52Speaker 1: means FR. I don't want anybody named. It could be
- 20:56Speaker 1: it could be a lot of things. Far. No, that's true,
- 20:59Speaker 1: that's true. You're right, you know, I was trying to
- 21:01Speaker 1: be clean. Yeah, with the Dynasty book in the background.
- 21:09Speaker 1: There you go. Geez. I wonder how he got ahold
- 21:12Speaker 1: of that. Yeah, there we go. Um let's see. Uh, Tim,
- 21:18Speaker 1: our friend from Duncan writes in to answer your question
- 21:21Speaker 1: regarding what I would pay five bucks a month for.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I think about the time you had the Not Done
- 21:26Speaker 1: Network one year for Super Bowl Week. You had everything
- 21:29Speaker 1: related to the Patriots that was live, and then you
- 21:31Speaker 1: showed all of the great Patriots games in the off hours.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I remember what an undertaking that was, but I must
- 21:37Speaker 1: tell you it was great and worth paying for. It's
- 21:41Speaker 1: gonna cushie. But that's the other thing, you know, from
- 21:46Speaker 1: the team side, if you're offering it, it's got to
- 21:49Speaker 1: be sustainable, right. That's not sustainable, right, And that's what
- 21:52Speaker 1: I was saying, like behind the scenes stuff. Yeah right,
- 21:56Speaker 1: ray Leota did huh. No, I didn't know it was sick.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think I knew he was sick. But he says,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I'm seeing a banner here sixty sixty seven. Oh, I
- 22:07Speaker 1: didn't know that it was that old either, ray Leoda.
- 22:11Speaker 1: That's that's was he in Good Fellas? Who did he play?
- 22:15Speaker 1: He was the guy Henry Hill. Oh okay, yeah all right.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Uh my wife Lane interviewed him once that one of
- 22:22Speaker 1: her old jobs, and thought he was just the greatest guy,
- 22:24Speaker 1: had a great had a great story. Just like did
- 22:28Speaker 1: he have the story? Uh you know the laugh from
- 22:30Speaker 1: Field of Dreams? Probably right right, that's that's what he said. Yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 1: he was in Field of Dreams? Ye? Now who was
- 22:37Speaker 1: he in that? She was the guy? I think he
- 22:42Speaker 1: came out of the corn. That's that's so interesting, had
- 22:45Speaker 1: a storied career. I wasn't even aware what else hand?
- 22:49Speaker 1: Oh right, they cooked the brain? Yeah that one? Yeah?
- 22:52Speaker 1: Who was he in that one? The guy? I didn't
- 22:55Speaker 1: see him that they cooked the brain? They fed it to?
- 22:58Speaker 1: Was his brain? Yeah? Oh? Rest in Peace radio? That's uh,
- 23:02Speaker 1: just in the Sopranos movie that came out last year.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh yeah. He was York, New York, New York, York.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Um Anthony writes in from Connecticut. Long time, no email,
- 23:16Speaker 1: But I heard about the NFL unveiling NFL plus this
- 23:19Speaker 1: summer and was wondering if that was going to affect
- 23:21Speaker 1: content coming from you guys. Uh not not to my knowledge. No,
- 23:27Speaker 1: as for my patriots question, if you gave Robert Craft
- 23:30Speaker 1: Truth Serum, how long do you think that leash would
- 23:33Speaker 1: be for Mac Jones? In other words, what is he
- 23:35Speaker 1: looking for in Mac? In same question for what Bill
- 23:38Speaker 1: thinks of Mac. I think he's looking for wins wins. Yeah,
- 23:42Speaker 1: but how long would the leash be? Three years? Yeah,
- 23:46Speaker 1: until I think if you don't see steady improvement after
- 23:50Speaker 1: three years, you start looking for the next right, And
- 23:52Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. I'm not like, like, if he
- 23:55Speaker 1: has two more years like the first year, I don't
- 23:57Speaker 1: think they'll pull the plug. But if he you know,
- 24:01Speaker 1: like Plateautin is going the other way, and you got
- 24:04Speaker 1: to think about it, well's I think that having to
- 24:06Speaker 1: pick up the option will be at the after year three.
- 24:09Speaker 1: That's kind of that inflection point of that's why why
- 24:12Speaker 1: I chose that. Yeah, yeah, I mean today, I think
- 24:15Speaker 1: that's gonna be That'd be interesting, That'd be interesting. Um.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Let's say James, the most interesting Patriots fan of the world,
- 24:24Speaker 1: says he's in Scotland at the moment, Edinburgh and pay
- 24:28Speaker 1: for the European version of Sunday ticket. It comes with
- 24:30Speaker 1: every NFL game, which I don't care for, and loads
- 24:33Speaker 1: up other NFL crap. I would like a package like that.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Um would be Patriots games, Red Zone, NFL Network, and
- 24:41Speaker 1: NFL films. NHL lets me buy either all Bruins games
- 24:46Speaker 1: or all NHL games. Do it, Fred? Yeah, so that's
- 24:49Speaker 1: the games, obviously, I think, and I think there will
- 24:51Speaker 1: be something in terms of games domestically. But games, yes.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I mean, we've had Sunday ticket forever and people bought
- 25:01Speaker 1: direct TV just because they wanted. I mean, the games
- 25:06Speaker 1: are the are the crown jewel. I get that that's
- 25:08Speaker 1: worth paying money for. But besides that, that's what I'm
- 25:11Speaker 1: looking for. I think you need to access I mean
- 25:13Speaker 1: maybe they already have this too, but I mean access
- 25:15Speaker 1: to the NFL films library. You know, I'm demondered about that.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Like if you watch any game, you know, the end
- 25:21Speaker 1: of pass games, you know, like from the history of
- 25:25Speaker 1: the NFL, would that be worth paying for? I mean
- 25:28Speaker 1: give me that, give me all the coaching life or
- 25:30Speaker 1: the football life's give me those. Okay, So you pay
- 25:32Speaker 1: for that for one year? Would you pay for it
- 25:35Speaker 1: for two years? Like the second year would be like
- 25:37Speaker 1: I really need this, you know, That's what I wonder, Like, like,
- 25:42Speaker 1: you know, one of I was talking with the league,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and one of the examples I used was Mandalorian, Like,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I like, when I'm watching Mandalorian, I'm so glad that
- 25:50Speaker 1: I bought Disney Plus like that, like, Okay, it's worth it,
- 25:56Speaker 1: you know. And that's the key. That's to me, that's
- 25:58Speaker 1: the test. When you're watching the content, are you happy
- 26:01Speaker 1: you made that purchase? Yeah? I think that's a great example.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I mean, and I would, you know, piggyback off that
- 26:06Speaker 1: and say, you know, I'm the same way with Mandalorian
- 26:08Speaker 1: and now with Obi Wan Premier, Like I haven't probably
- 26:11Speaker 1: watched Disney Plus at all since Mandalorian ended, but I
- 26:14Speaker 1: kept it. You don't care you have it because there's
- 26:17Speaker 1: something that you will, right. I know, they're going to
- 26:19Speaker 1: keep churning out that kind of content and it's too
- 26:22Speaker 1: much of a pain in the butt to stop paying
- 26:24Speaker 1: six bucks a month or whatever it is. What if
- 26:26Speaker 1: you had um and I don't know if you can't
- 26:28Speaker 1: even do this, but during games, um you had some
- 26:32Speaker 1: sort of hometown like maning cast. Yeah, that's alternate viewing
- 26:38Speaker 1: or something. Yeah. Yeah, do we already say that. I'm sorry, no, no, no, no, no,
- 26:44Speaker 1: that's a that's a that's another one. And let's just
- 26:47Speaker 1: say that's say, well, we can't do that because we
- 26:49Speaker 1: have to protect a broadcast. Right, what if you had
- 26:52Speaker 1: that same idea, But it's after the game, so a
- 26:55Speaker 1: reviewing of the game. So I've watched the game, but
- 26:57Speaker 1: now I'm going to watch it with you know, mattch
- 27:00Speaker 1: ch Adam or whoever. Yeah, you know and Matt Chadam. Okay,
- 27:05Speaker 1: but it's going to be a director's cut of the
- 27:07Speaker 1: game from this, you know, person's opinion who I respect
- 27:12Speaker 1: or can give me insight that Chris collins Worth and
- 27:16Speaker 1: you know how Michael's even couldn't. I think it's a
- 27:18Speaker 1: really interesting question. Um, that would be worth a study
- 27:22Speaker 1: of some sort. What are fans viewing habits after the game,
- 27:26Speaker 1: whether the team wins or loses? What are you are? You?
- 27:28Speaker 1: Are you more likely a winner or a loss? I
- 27:31Speaker 1: mean I think everybody would probably or not everybody. But
- 27:33Speaker 1: I think what makes the most sense is people would
- 27:35Speaker 1: want to tune into team specific content, so you know,
- 27:38Speaker 1: coming right into a Patriot's perspective of the loss or
- 27:41Speaker 1: the win. But do people want that? Is that? You know?
- 27:44Speaker 1: Or do people just all right, I watched the game
- 27:45Speaker 1: it's been a long day. I got things to do.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I'm not ready to jump into you know, to watch
- 27:50Speaker 1: for another hour. I mean, I know people listen to
- 27:52Speaker 1: the postgame show. It's a little different though when it's
- 27:54Speaker 1: a you know, a TV show that you have to
- 27:55Speaker 1: watch and sit down and be around for. So I
- 27:58Speaker 1: don't know, I just would wonder what what are fans
- 27:59Speaker 1: view habits like before and before the game too? And
- 28:02Speaker 1: after the game? Is there a space there too? Um?
- 28:05Speaker 1: I mean we obviously we do the pre and postgame show.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Those you know, work pretty well, but you know, as
- 28:10Speaker 1: there could could it be bigger? Could it be bigger
- 28:11Speaker 1: than that? And it's also kind of one of the
- 28:14Speaker 1: tests I had for like stuff you're willing to pay
- 28:16Speaker 1: for is if I don't watch it, if I don't
- 28:19Speaker 1: see it, I'm not part of the conversation because so
- 28:23Speaker 1: many people are watching it. So like for a team
- 28:26Speaker 1: were they like, so many people watch this thing. If
- 28:29Speaker 1: I don't watch it, then I don't know what people
- 28:30Speaker 1: were talking about. You know. Yeah, that's hard. That's a
- 28:34Speaker 1: tough bar to hit because it's gotta be like really
- 28:39Speaker 1: really compelling content, you know, water cooler type content. Yeah,
- 28:43Speaker 1: you know, right, it's tough. I mean, you know, I
- 28:47Speaker 1: think I mean sometimes get a player. You know, it's
- 28:51Speaker 1: like little things that you could see, like if we
- 28:53Speaker 1: had like a you know again Pie in the Sky,
- 28:56Speaker 1: but if you could have like two or three different
- 29:00Speaker 1: player podcast like they own it, it's their shows, but
- 29:05Speaker 1: we we have it under our umbrella and you pay
- 29:08Speaker 1: you know, X amount per month to have access to
- 29:10Speaker 1: these players shows. Would you be willing to pay for that?
- 29:14Speaker 1: I don't know, I wouldn't. I mean, the only thing
- 29:18Speaker 1: and there's no way of ever knowing this, like if
- 29:20Speaker 1: you hit gold, like if you have like a Pat
- 29:22Speaker 1: McAfee right, like you never know if you have that
- 29:25Speaker 1: guy right right, you know, and that's just the personality
- 29:28Speaker 1: drive person right. It would have to be something that
- 29:32Speaker 1: you would do and then you to you a point, Fred,
- 29:35Speaker 1: you'd be hearing about it like, hey, you know this
- 29:37Speaker 1: this Peyton Manning cast him and UI are kind of funny.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna listen, you know, the third week that they
- 29:42Speaker 1: do it, you know, people are talking about this, that's
- 29:44Speaker 1: kind of funny. I'm gonna try it. Pat McAfee show
- 29:47Speaker 1: has taken off, right, but I don't know how many
- 29:49Speaker 1: shows how many like if the Colts ever could rap
- 29:53Speaker 1: bring him back in right now they have they have
- 29:55Speaker 1: a winner. I mean you could do it with Brady
- 29:57Speaker 1: like I mean, I know he's not you know not,
- 29:59Speaker 1: but but every team has that, right if you had
- 30:02Speaker 1: after the game, here's gonna be your direct access to
- 30:05Speaker 1: a famous Hall of Fame player breaking down what just happened.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I mean, no, no disrespect to me and Paul and party,
- 30:11Speaker 1: but you know that's one of those things that you
- 30:14Speaker 1: get a guy of that caliber. It doesn't matter if
- 30:17Speaker 1: he sucks like that's that. That's like right, what we
- 30:21Speaker 1: were talking about, Like if if we ever get Bill
- 30:23Speaker 1: to do anything right and doesn't matter if he doesn't
- 30:26Speaker 1: have anything to say, it's Bill. It's Bill. Every people
- 30:29Speaker 1: hang on everywhere, interest and everything that he does right,
- 30:31Speaker 1: The same would be the case with a guy like Brady. Yeah. Um,
- 30:35Speaker 1: speaking of Brady. Um, his little internet fraud yesterday, Oh
- 30:41Speaker 1: that was that was made up. He didn't really hit
- 30:43Speaker 1: a hole on one. What do you think? I don't know?
- 30:46Speaker 1: I mean, Matt, what do you think? I mean? I
- 30:49Speaker 1: need to see it from the videos. I saw no
- 30:51Speaker 1: way they said that. They actually they filmed every one
- 30:54Speaker 1: of his shots, and so that he happened to hit
- 30:57Speaker 1: a hole in one. So it's not like they happen
- 30:59Speaker 1: to have a camera on that time and he hit
- 31:01Speaker 1: a hole in one. No, they shot the whole round. No,
- 31:03Speaker 1: I I know, but like there's no real shot of
- 31:06Speaker 1: the shot. Yeah, there's this lame the drone pilot, which
- 31:11Speaker 1: looks completely hard to do, like the drone I know,
- 31:16Speaker 1: looks kind of cgish to me. Really, I don't know,
- 31:19Speaker 1: Like I was just happy to see something go right
- 31:21Speaker 1: for him. You know, it's been a tough grime. He
- 31:23Speaker 1: caught a break well, speaking of like what to believe
- 31:29Speaker 1: on Twitter, Like, there was a picture going around the
- 31:32Speaker 1: other day of Aaron Judge and he's got a Poland
- 31:35Speaker 1: Springs bottle and it's they claim it's a it's a
- 31:39Speaker 1: normal size bottle, but it looks like a little thing
- 31:41Speaker 1: in his hands. And I guess I think it was photoshop.
- 31:44Speaker 1: But it was so funny. I was gonna starting, I
- 31:48Speaker 1: like Aaron Judge. I was gonna start like, you know, uh,
- 31:51Speaker 1: putting mentions in, like you know, Aaron Judge miss like
- 31:54Speaker 1: you know, his foot is so big and he can't
- 31:57Speaker 1: fit in the batter's box and you know, things like
- 31:59Speaker 1: that he's a giant. He's like almost out of proportion.
- 32:02Speaker 1: He's just that big for base. Imagine, he's just gotta be.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I mean, I saw a picture I think from of
- 32:08Speaker 1: him from like high school where it was he was
- 32:10Speaker 1: already just well, this is what I hope Paul knows.
- 32:13Speaker 1: This is what I hope for Aaron Judge. I wanted
- 32:16Speaker 1: him to be the next Babe Ruth, you know, the
- 32:20Speaker 1: bigger than the game. And like now I don't know
- 32:22Speaker 1: if he's gonna resign with the Yankees. Um a lot
- 32:26Speaker 1: of money. No matter where he goes, he's gonna like
- 32:29Speaker 1: break the bank. But I hope, I kind of hope
- 32:31Speaker 1: he stays with the Yankees because that's where that guy
- 32:35Speaker 1: should be in New York. Judge one right down the line,
- 32:46Speaker 1: you know, like, yeah, but I love him in the
- 32:47Speaker 1: Red Sox of course, but like you know, he could
- 32:51Speaker 1: be out on the Red Sox of the Dodgers, yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 1: the Yankees, but like he can't be like a Kansas
- 32:55Speaker 1: City royal, Yeah, like Otani over with the Angels. Yeah,
- 32:58Speaker 1: So that's what I was going to bring up. Yeah,
- 33:00Speaker 1: a ceiling, right, imagine if he was doing that for
- 33:03Speaker 1: the Yankees of the Red Sox, Right, right, so maybe someday.
- 33:07Speaker 1: But I love I love me, Smaron Judge. Yeah, there's
- 33:10Speaker 1: as much. Yeah, it's really kind of weird. He loves
- 33:15Speaker 1: great athletes. He just like it's just but they haven't
- 33:18Speaker 1: won the title yet. Usually you waited till the well
- 33:21Speaker 1: And this kind of feeds into how I felt about
- 33:23Speaker 1: Sedano Chart. There are certain professional athletes where it's just
- 33:26Speaker 1: you're too big, Like it's unfair, you know, like you
- 33:28Speaker 1: shouldn't be allowed. You know, like it's like okay, like
- 33:31Speaker 1: you're just and I mean, you get it. In high school.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I bring up Kara Walters, who was in my high school,
- 33:36Speaker 1: was just she's six six in high school, there's you know,
- 33:39Speaker 1: these little girls running around her. They just throw to
- 33:41Speaker 1: her and she's just I know, and not every big
- 33:45Speaker 1: guy can hit like he can in the pros. You know, yeah, um,
- 33:49Speaker 1: they just too awkward. And he's got it all and
- 33:51Speaker 1: he can steal bases, he can play. He's a good player.
- 33:54Speaker 1: He's a good all around player. He's not he's not
- 33:56Speaker 1: just a home run. He's a good hitter and he's
- 33:59Speaker 1: a good all around player. Yeah, it's too big though,
- 34:02Speaker 1: you got too many kings, but that was the Dano.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I'm just like, he's the greatest defenseman, Like he's the
- 34:09Speaker 1: biggest defenseman of all time and everything that goes with that.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I mean, he's good. He's tough, for sure, but he's
- 34:14Speaker 1: also got an immense advantage over everybody else. I remember
- 34:17Speaker 1: when first I remember when they signed Chara originally and
- 34:22Speaker 1: I was on, you know, Fred likes to make fun.
- 34:24Speaker 1: It's like weekend Ei. It was like Mark Sivard and
- 34:27Speaker 1: jar I think around the same time they signed them both,
- 34:30Speaker 1: if I recall in, it was just like, really, is
- 34:33Speaker 1: n't like the six nine guys like one of the
- 34:37Speaker 1: greatest Bruins ever. I mean, it's got to be scary
- 34:40Speaker 1: to play. I mean I played against haw Haw Gil,
- 34:41Speaker 1: who was who was no small small guy. He was
- 34:44Speaker 1: just saying it was the guy who was in the NHL.
- 34:47Speaker 1: That's that's the guy that you're talking about. Yeah, you're big,
- 34:50Speaker 1: You're big. He had no other skill other than you size.
- 34:53Speaker 1: All due respect to how Gil, he's an NHL player,
- 34:55Speaker 1: but I couldn't stay. He smoked me in Fall League
- 34:58Speaker 1: one time too, So sorry, how five Now you got
- 35:01Speaker 1: mad because you you hit I don't like five hundred
- 35:05Speaker 1: is the a ticket outline? Let's go to Christian in
- 35:07Speaker 1: La on the phone. What's up? Hey, good morning you guys.
- 35:11Speaker 1: How are you doing? Okay? Good? Good to talk with
- 35:14Speaker 1: you guys. I love the idea you guys are going
- 35:17Speaker 1: into the whole rebroadcasting this week. I get it. You're
- 35:21Speaker 1: in a TV mood, in in a wondering mood. Like
- 35:23Speaker 1: I said, I work in holliways, all that stuff always
- 35:25Speaker 1: fascinates me. Yeah. Football, Um, are you guys actually as
- 35:31Speaker 1: I'm sorry starts to not following, while you guys actually
- 35:33Speaker 1: at the practice? Do you see the players only once
- 35:36Speaker 1: a week? On Monday? We were Yeah, we were there.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Mike and I were out at Monday's practice. Will you
- 35:42Speaker 1: guys go out to see the players? Do you do
- 35:44Speaker 1: you put a focus on Oh yeah, we want to.
- 35:46Speaker 1: We want to put our eyes on this guy so
- 35:48Speaker 1: we can give information. Or do you try to like
- 35:50Speaker 1: put your eyes on as many different guys that you
- 35:52Speaker 1: cannot Do you focus on something specific? I try to
- 35:55Speaker 1: watch as much as I can. Yeah, I try to
- 35:57Speaker 1: see what catch am. I definitely have a kind of
- 36:00Speaker 1: curiosity of what the kind of personnel packages are and
- 36:03Speaker 1: like I said on Tuesday, you can definitely tell there's
- 36:06Speaker 1: a line between guys who are kind of with the
- 36:08Speaker 1: starting playing kind of group and then young guys who
- 36:10Speaker 1: were with the kind of working group. So it's it's
- 36:13Speaker 1: that and you know who kind of goes in when,
- 36:15Speaker 1: and you know, certain plays catch your eye. But I think,
- 36:18Speaker 1: I think, I mean, that's kind of what we're getting
- 36:20Speaker 1: to at the beginning. Was just now going into the
- 36:22Speaker 1: second practice. All right, this is what I missed. Now
- 36:24Speaker 1: I really want to focus in more on, you know,
- 36:27Speaker 1: a few handful of certain things to see if you
- 36:29Speaker 1: can gather anything. But it's tough. You never know who's
- 36:31Speaker 1: not competitive, what they're doing. Yeah, you know, but we
- 36:34Speaker 1: watch what we you know, he's just asking what we're
- 36:36Speaker 1: looking at. And I agree with Mike. I think the
- 36:38Speaker 1: packages um and the groupings are much more important anything else.
- 36:41Speaker 1: But I do try to focus specifically on any newcomers,
- 36:46Speaker 1: whether it be a guy like DeVante Parker I was
- 36:48Speaker 1: watching on Monday, or the rookies, yeah, young guys that
- 36:53Speaker 1: haven't really played yet. You know, you try to get
- 36:57Speaker 1: a feel for how they move and what what some
- 36:59Speaker 1: of the things they dogether like when you guys focus
- 37:02Speaker 1: on the running back when you guys focus on defense.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I never how do you well give us well, no,
- 37:10Speaker 1: like for T camp, which training camp starts, um, you know,
- 37:15Speaker 1: and like we can see every practice like for you know,
- 37:19Speaker 1: two or three weeks. We we kind of I do
- 37:21Speaker 1: that sometimes, like I'll say, Okay, I'm gonna go focus
- 37:24Speaker 1: on this offensive defensive line drills, you know, and I'll
- 37:28Speaker 1: call out who I think just one a drill, you know,
- 37:31Speaker 1: while other guys might be watching the wide receivers, you know,
- 37:35Speaker 1: because it's it is, it's like a five ring circus
- 37:38Speaker 1: stirring training camp, and really wherever you look, there's something
- 37:41Speaker 1: to focus on. Yeah, I mean it's it's kind of
- 37:44Speaker 1: they'll be in different drills, and so sometimes it's hard
- 37:46Speaker 1: because do you want to watch the wide receivers going
- 37:48Speaker 1: against the cornerbacks or do you want to watch the
- 37:50Speaker 1: defensive lineman going against the offensive lineman. So you kind
- 37:53Speaker 1: of have to to pick your spots sometimes. But and
- 37:55Speaker 1: there's like Fred said, there's a lot going get in there. Yeah, okay.
- 37:59Speaker 1: So it's the end of the season, we are headed
- 38:03Speaker 1: into our second game of the playoff. What would Max
- 38:07Speaker 1: that have to have been in your guy's eyes, for
- 38:09Speaker 1: us to be there, Ah, thirty touchdowns, I think he's
- 38:15Speaker 1: got to have um sixty five plus percentage completion. I
- 38:21Speaker 1: think he's got to have thirty touchdowns, ten interceptions, ten
- 38:25Speaker 1: interceptions about you know, like maybe a little bit more.
- 38:28Speaker 1: It's okay, what does the defense do? Like, I think
- 38:31Speaker 1: we're just talking about back? I know, what how do
- 38:34Speaker 1: you answer that question? No, I know, but I'm just
- 38:36Speaker 1: saying Max's part of it. Obviously. My my record for
- 38:40Speaker 1: the Patriots right now is still eight nine. It's still
- 38:43Speaker 1: eight nine because I'm so unsure of the defense. You know,
- 38:47Speaker 1: so even with those stats, the record would be eight
- 38:49Speaker 1: and nine. If the defense doesn't play well. Yeah, what
- 38:53Speaker 1: if the offense doesn't play well well, then everything gets
- 38:55Speaker 1: thrown out the window, you know, jish I mean, and
- 39:00Speaker 1: both sides of the ball aren't playing well, they're not
- 39:01Speaker 1: gonna they're not gonna win game. But no, what if
- 39:04Speaker 1: the offense doesn't play well in the defense, does it
- 39:06Speaker 1: could be still eate nine? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah, I mean,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I mean, I think where you're trying to get at
- 39:12Speaker 1: is what kind of you know, performance you made out
- 39:14Speaker 1: of Mac Jones? What kind of progress could you get.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I need it. I just don't think it'll show up.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I know it's simple, it sounds simple, But I need
- 39:21Speaker 1: teams to stop saying that the Patriots are easy to defend. Yeah,
- 39:25Speaker 1: that's what I need. More of the Cleveland game where
- 39:27Speaker 1: it just seems like, man, they're rolling. Everything's kind of working. Yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 1: well for you guys for that to happen, but teams
- 39:35Speaker 1: to stay they're not easy to defend. Which which players are? Like,
- 39:39Speaker 1: what's the po with the running game? Have to pick up? No,
- 39:41Speaker 1: it's Mac, Mac has to Mac has to get smarter.
- 39:45Speaker 1: What's the X factor for you guys, Matt Jones, Mac Jones,
- 39:48Speaker 1: it's max max improvement, his development, his understanding of what
- 39:52Speaker 1: he's looking at when he looks at a defense, his
- 39:53Speaker 1: pre snap reads, all that stuff. The better he gets
- 39:57Speaker 1: at that, the heart of the Patriots are going to
- 39:58Speaker 1: be to defend, and the more they'll be able to
- 40:01Speaker 1: open up the playbook for him. You know, I think
- 40:04Speaker 1: Matt can throw us to victory more than the the
- 40:07Speaker 1: the pieces around him have to have to raise their game.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Well obviously, Yeah, that's gonna have to happen to All
- 40:15Speaker 1: these free agents are gonna have to have that second
- 40:17Speaker 1: year free agent jump. But really it doesn't matter if
- 40:20Speaker 1: Mac hasn't improved, and you know, and I think he will.
- 40:24Speaker 1: That's why I'm excited about that. I made the combat
- 40:26Speaker 1: on Tuesday. When you keep you know, you keep focusing
- 40:29Speaker 1: on the people said that they were easy to defend.
- 40:32Speaker 1: I think they're easy to defend because their quarterback is right,
- 40:35Speaker 1: it's a rookie. Yeah, not necessarily. I just think physically
- 40:38Speaker 1: he's limited. There are there are certain things that he
- 40:40Speaker 1: does well. I think it took about half a season
- 40:43Speaker 1: for the lomest of the league to figure that out.
- 40:44Speaker 1: According to Mikearty, who talked to an AFC head office person,
- 40:50Speaker 1: he's a lot more athletic than people give him credit
- 40:52Speaker 1: for it. Right. And the response to that was someone
- 40:55Speaker 1: on Twitter snarkly writing that he ran a four two
- 40:58Speaker 1: one in the office. Just crack me up, guys. Which
- 41:03Speaker 1: free agent do you guys? If they don't make a
- 41:05Speaker 1: quantum leap in this this second year of their contract,
- 41:08Speaker 1: which free agent do we? Oh? I think a galore
- 41:10Speaker 1: in in Smith, you know, Mills go, yeah, yeah? Those
- 41:17Speaker 1: are those are all good, all good examples. I mean,
- 41:20Speaker 1: like I said, I think you feel a little bit
- 41:22Speaker 1: heavy on wide receiver, so maybe I think it depends
- 41:25Speaker 1: on on Thornton. And but those guys got injury issues too.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I mean, Parker really stay healthy. But that's a great
- 41:30Speaker 1: one with with Al and Thornton. If Thornton has a
- 41:34Speaker 1: promising rookie year, then absolutely yeah, you could see that happening.
- 41:40Speaker 1: He only asked a two year contract anyway. It's gonna
- 41:43Speaker 1: be a free agent a year anyway, right, you don't
- 41:44Speaker 1: be signed. Part of me just wants to burn that
- 41:47Speaker 1: off and just let it all kind of play out
- 41:48Speaker 1: instead of feeling like, oh, we're all set at wide
- 41:50Speaker 1: receiver now. Because so let me ask you for it.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Thanks for the christ, appreciate it. Let me ask you
- 41:55Speaker 1: a question. If Thornton does get a lot of opportunities
- 42:01Speaker 1: this year, what does that mean about agalore Into or
- 42:05Speaker 1: other receivers. Well, it means something bad. It means something
- 42:08Speaker 1: bad for somebody. I don't know who it is, because
- 42:10Speaker 1: Mike and I talked on Tuesday that we kind of
- 42:13Speaker 1: both feel that there's a chance that Aglare might get
- 42:15Speaker 1: more opportunities in the slot. I mean that's where he
- 42:18Speaker 1: means something bad for Jacoby Myers, right right, I mean,
- 42:21Speaker 1: that's I think it's a good way to tie it
- 42:23Speaker 1: together and again or Agala, That's that's really where he's
- 42:27Speaker 1: been most productive in his career. You know that Raider
- 42:29Speaker 1: season was a little bit outlier, but I think Thornton
- 42:32Speaker 1: if I just think it's a really great thing. If
- 42:34Speaker 1: Thornton is able to come in and actually contribute this year,
- 42:37Speaker 1: it's a young guy that you can build with and
- 42:39Speaker 1: three affordable years left on it is that better? Is
- 42:42Speaker 1: Thornton breaking through and being able to be a contributor
- 42:44Speaker 1: this year, better than he just can't break through because
- 42:47Speaker 1: everyone's doing well. Yeah, Um, I would say yeah. I
- 42:50Speaker 1: would say yeah, because is gone and users yere Aglare
- 42:55Speaker 1: and Myers will be unrestricted free agents. DeVante Parker will
- 42:58Speaker 1: have a year left on his D. But Mike is
- 43:00Speaker 1: right and to say that he should you know, rent
- 43:03Speaker 1: and not buy, you know, at this stage of his career.
- 43:05Speaker 1: So if you have Thornton showing promise and being a
- 43:09Speaker 1: regular contract, I'm not just talking about Well, someone had
- 43:11Speaker 1: to catch it, you know, Ken Brell Tompkins was the
- 43:14Speaker 1: leading receiver, like in thirteen, someone had to catch the passage. No,
- 43:18Speaker 1: he's so good. We can't keep him off the field.
- 43:20Speaker 1: We got to get him playing time. That would be
- 43:22Speaker 1: better than we can't get him on the field because
- 43:25Speaker 1: everybody else's playing, especially because if he's on the field,
- 43:27Speaker 1: he's and he's doing well. He's bringing speed, he's got
- 43:30Speaker 1: some length on the outside. I mean, those are things
- 43:32Speaker 1: that they need. Is it's Mac, you know, got just
- 43:35Speaker 1: a sense for him downfield, and he's able to you know,
- 43:37Speaker 1: put it up there and know where he's going to
- 43:39Speaker 1: pull away. So, I mean, I think it just speaks
- 43:41Speaker 1: to the general theme of the team. The more rookies,
- 43:44Speaker 1: second even third year guys at this point cha that
- 43:47Speaker 1: can emerge and play well, the better. And I don't
- 43:49Speaker 1: really care about, you know, whether or not it works
- 43:51Speaker 1: out for Devon Godchaw. What what better they get the
- 43:55Speaker 1: younger and if they cut Devin mccordy, i'd feel love younger.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Why do you always pick the only one? I don't
- 44:01Speaker 1: really have a huge problem. That's why That's why I
- 44:04Speaker 1: picked him. Paul, what's up, William? What's up? Fred? How
- 44:07Speaker 1: are you doing good? Hey? Um? I had a question
- 44:11Speaker 1: for you Mike and Paul of course, Um okay, So
- 44:16Speaker 1: I heard Greg Bernard podcast basically, so he has predicting
- 44:21Speaker 1: that the Patriots will be about eight and nine were nine,
- 44:24Speaker 1: So wouldn't that wouldn't that be an l forwards? Bill? Basically?
- 44:27Speaker 1: You know what I mean? And it's like, what does
- 44:29Speaker 1: Robert Kraft do? Did I say say? Like everything just
- 44:33Speaker 1: it was just a basically it just went went left. Basically,
- 44:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean, nothing went right? The offense
- 44:38Speaker 1: was that, the coaching and all that. So what do
- 44:42Speaker 1: you what do you think Robert Kraft? Well, where do
- 44:44Speaker 1: you I think we should go next to the nick?
- 44:46Speaker 1: I mean following year or whatever. Yeah, well that's the thing.
- 44:49Speaker 1: You know, again, it's tough to answer without putting it
- 44:52Speaker 1: in content. But let's say they're eight and nine and
- 44:55Speaker 1: it's evident they've got talent. I nine, I don't I
- 45:00Speaker 1: think that's evidence that nothing went right. Right. I'll tell
- 45:02Speaker 1: you that. If they go eight to nine and it's
- 45:04Speaker 1: evident that they have talent, but they're just not listening,
- 45:07Speaker 1: like Bill's lost the locker room, that's worse than you know,
- 45:11Speaker 1: they still don't have now if what they need to
- 45:14Speaker 1: get over the hump, Like if you think it's like
- 45:16Speaker 1: a you know, eight to nine and man, I don't
- 45:19Speaker 1: know how that that team won eight games, right, they overachieved,
- 45:22Speaker 1: like exactly, they stole two games down the street. That's
- 45:25Speaker 1: that's a concern. But if you're looking at it is like, yeah,
- 45:29Speaker 1: they were in every game they won eight. They will
- 45:31Speaker 1: you know, they're coming on guy like making some catches.
- 45:35Speaker 1: You know, maybe a Kevin Harris is you know, integrating
- 45:39Speaker 1: in the backfield. Next Bull Strange looks like a keeper
- 45:43Speaker 1: at left guard. Yeah, you know, we got more money
- 45:45Speaker 1: to spend next year, we're building. The quarterback made some progress. Right,
- 45:48Speaker 1: It's just the context is important because you could you
- 45:50Speaker 1: could you could lay out what happened last year in
- 45:52Speaker 1: terms of, all right, they're gonna finish with this schedule,
- 45:54Speaker 1: they're gonna make the play they're back in the playoffs
- 45:56Speaker 1: with a rookie quarterback, and they're gonna lose the Buffalo
- 45:58Speaker 1: the first rue. How would you feel And at this
- 45:59Speaker 1: point last year you would have said, Okay, let's still
- 46:02Speaker 1: sign up. And yet how it happened and they beat
- 46:04Speaker 1: You're kind of like, you know, the beginning of the
- 46:06Speaker 1: year and the end of the year, they were not
- 46:08Speaker 1: a very good football team. In the middle they dominated. Yeah,
- 46:11Speaker 1: I just want to be better than last year that
- 46:13Speaker 1: saw maybe take another step for you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 46:16Speaker 1: And that's what's hard. It's like, but is better, but
- 46:18Speaker 1: the records worse. I don't make the playoffs, but they
- 46:21Speaker 1: but you feel better. That's the same place. And if
- 46:23Speaker 1: you if you, if you're just like writing down player
- 46:25Speaker 1: for player and you're objectively looking at it, they're probably
- 46:28Speaker 1: not as good as they were last year on paper.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I just don't want I just don't want the team
- 46:32Speaker 1: to think and the Pagers are just a push over
- 46:34Speaker 1: all they just eat fin and all that, you know
- 46:36Speaker 1: what I mean, right, Yeah, that's a bad Let them know,
- 46:38Speaker 1: like YO were here right right exact, So William, they
- 46:41Speaker 1: could be what you just said they are and have
- 46:42Speaker 1: a worse record than last year. Yeah, I think you
- 46:45Speaker 1: know what I mean, that's definitely And it's kind of
- 46:48Speaker 1: how I felt like throw out you know, well Fred
- 46:51Speaker 1: accurately brought up you know, Hammer and all those crappy
- 46:54Speaker 1: injured teams in the kind of the middle. But I
- 46:55Speaker 1: think that like little period between Dallas and Tampa Bay,
- 46:58Speaker 1: those games, I came out of those games feeling like
- 47:01Speaker 1: this is a competitive game that are gonna be in everything. Yes,
- 47:04Speaker 1: might feel good about it, you know, and then obviously
- 47:07Speaker 1: the season went as it did. I felt I felt
- 47:09Speaker 1: like that in the Tampa game. I didn't really feel
- 47:11Speaker 1: that against the Dallas stop. And I know the Dallas
- 47:14Speaker 1: game went over time and obviously the Patriots more like
- 47:17Speaker 1: I will say, I will use the words should have.
- 47:19Speaker 1: The Patriots should have won the Dallas game. You know
- 47:22Speaker 1: that you got them third and twenty five well out
- 47:25Speaker 1: of field goal range. You got to find a way
- 47:26Speaker 1: and you couldn't. And it was unfortunate. But I think
- 47:29Speaker 1: Dallas was so much better than the Patriots that day Tampa.
- 47:33Speaker 1: The Tampa game was pretty pretty competitive all game long.
- 47:37Speaker 1: You know, I had a good feeling after the Tampa game. Dallas.
- 47:41Speaker 1: What to me, Dallas was the two Buffalo games, only
- 47:45Speaker 1: Buffalo didn't turn the ball over, you know, three times,
- 47:48Speaker 1: and you know, shoot themselves in the foot constantly. Yeah,
- 47:51Speaker 1: that was the difference. All Right, We're gonna take a break,

- 57:08Speaker 1: check out this snippet from the latest episode of Pats
- 57:10Speaker 1: from the Past with Ernie Adams. Can you think of
- 57:13Speaker 1: one thing where that ignition sort of happening to you said, Man,
- 57:17Speaker 1: I'm really interested in this or the game of football.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Sure it was when I was an eighth eighth grader
- 57:23Speaker 1: at Dexter School in Brookline. It was a football was
- 57:27Speaker 1: mandatory intramural, so there was no no choice. I want
- 57:32Speaker 1: to play football. I don't know if you're at Dexter School,
- 57:33Speaker 1: You're gonna play football. And I was the athletic director there.
- 57:37Speaker 1: George downpat was just a wonderful human being, and I
- 57:40Speaker 1: had also why don't we do this? Why don't we
- 57:41Speaker 1: do that? And he finally said, look, you're so smart.
- 57:44Speaker 1: You coach your team. We'll see how you do. And
- 57:46Speaker 1: that's where it started. Did you envision at that point
- 57:49Speaker 1: in time, was that this is this is a real love? Oh?
- 57:52Speaker 1: I knew, Hey, this is this is a lot of fun.
- 57:55Speaker 1: And it grew from there. Okay, so you got we're
- 57:58Speaker 1: really into it. And then you know, you do your
- 58:00Speaker 1: your high school and you meet another guy who's really
- 58:04Speaker 1: into it. How long did it take you to realize?
- 58:06Speaker 1: Bill Belichick was pretty similar in his thoughts, Um, I'm
- 58:10Speaker 1: probably about a minute. Uh so, of course we have.
- 58:14Speaker 1: We met fall of nineteen seventy. We were both hi
- 58:19Speaker 1: seniors at Phillips Academy in Andover. We uh played on
- 58:22Speaker 1: an undefeated football team and we had a great time
- 58:25Speaker 1: together and it was It's basically started a fifty plush
- 58:30Speaker 1: year conversation about football. That's part of the latest episode
- 58:38Speaker 1: of Pats from the Past. Former Patriots research director Ernie
- 58:42Speaker 1: Adams was the guest of No Socks Mattie Smith and
- 58:45Speaker 1: Paul Perillo bu Hall of Famer and highlights a nearly
- 58:48Speaker 1: half century h of his career in the National Football League.
- 58:54Speaker 1: You know, I would say it's probably the most extensive
- 58:57Speaker 1: interview Ernie Adams has ever done. Yeah, I mean, I'm
- 59:00Speaker 1: not outside of the job either, Pink stripes. Yeah, and
- 59:04Speaker 1: I will tell you announcement. It could still be going
- 59:06Speaker 1: if if we wanted to. I mean, he was having
- 59:10Speaker 1: a good time and telling stories, and so he talks
- 59:13Speaker 1: about as you know, how his passion for football began.
- 59:16Speaker 1: We you know, we just heard that what made what
- 59:19Speaker 1: he thought made the mid nineteen seventies Patriots so great?
- 59:23Speaker 1: That was that was a really good team. Uh and
- 59:26Speaker 1: what was his Patriots favorite Patriots team of all the ones?
- 59:30Speaker 1: So I did a little write up that's up down
- 59:31Speaker 1: the site now too, with just a five of my
- 59:34Speaker 1: favorite little anecdote moments. But yeah, a lot on the
- 59:38Speaker 1: seventy six and the seventy eight Patriots liked. Paul I
- 59:40Speaker 1: think asked him which of the two would you choose?
- 59:43Speaker 1: And he wanted seventy eight, which you agreed with. You
- 59:46Speaker 1: agreed with the seventy six team went farther. That was
- 59:48Speaker 1: the sugar Bear Animal. So we're giving out spoilers. Oh yes, sorry,
- 59:51Speaker 1: Oh well, he writes these write ups. I always think
- 59:55Speaker 1: that why would anybody watch everybody? Well a little bit,
- 59:58Speaker 1: there's a lot. Both of those teams went the same.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: By the way, they both got knocked out in their
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: first playoff game. Um, I would say the seventy eight team,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: um was more experienced. That's why I think they were
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: sort of just they were sort of just on the come,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: as I like to say, in seventy six, and then
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: by the time they got to seventy eight, I think
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: they were really ready to do some damage. But the
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Past from the Past podcast is already a whole bunch
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: of them there, so you can subscribe to that and
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: listen to many many Expatriots make those available on the Plus. Yeah,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: there you go extensive interviews with them, and from now on,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Paul's going to be part of that. Yeah. I think
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: it's great. You know, they finally have wished his arm.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: He didn't want to do it. I'm enjoying it. And
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: then and then he realized, I'm glad you guys made
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: me do good I should be part of it, and
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: so now he's going to be part of it. Yeah,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: it's good. Are we letting anybody else up? Again? I
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: leave that. I leave that to I just show up.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: They just call you in. They need the arm. But
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I have enjoyed the two podcasts that I've been a
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: part of. What about Fred talking about plus ups? What
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: about um? Access to player commentaries from games from the season.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: So after the season, maybe we sit down with Matthew
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: jude On and we watched his three sack game and
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: you know, kind of like we did with Butler. But
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: that's something like that little extra yea access to the
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: unique stuffy commentary. Yeah, I just think anything that gives
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: you do you mean Mitchell Mitchell? Did I w I
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: say Malcolm Butler? Yeah, it's a lot of Malcolm's out there,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: get them wrong. We're in the middle. Welcome in the middle. Yep. Um. Yeah,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: So that's something we threw out in the first segment.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: What would you what content aside from games? What content
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: would you be willing to pay for, either at the
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: league level or at the team level. I bet you
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: people will pay for the Belichick breakdowns. We give them
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: away for free. But I think people would. I don't
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: think they don't do. I'm not like I hate to
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: say that. No disrespect to the greatest coach of all time,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: but you know, judging from just the engagement we get
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: from the free, you know, putting it up free, I
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: don't think so. Yeah. Sometimes when you charge it, charge
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: for it, people think it's better than this. That's true.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: You create the value. Yeah, yeah, that is a thing. Yeah,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: perceived value. People say. You know, if it's free, it's
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: not worth it, then wouldn't be giving it away if
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: it was any good? Right? Who knows? Interesting? Um Joe
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: writes in I was listening to Andrew Callahan's podcast the
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: other day and he mentioned how stacked the Patriots beat is.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: He named people like Evan Lazarre, Phil Perry, and et cetera.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: He didn't mention anyone from PU, but I figured it
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: was because you were on a different tier. So there
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: you go. I figure it's for different reasons. They hate us,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: that's my fault. They just hate Paul. Yes, why do
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: they don't? No one hates Mike. What does sing out
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: with that guy? Uh? No? I like, I like, I
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: think he does a decent job. Yeah, I don't. I don't.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I mean, he's the one that kind of runs the beat. Now, um, yeah,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I didn't. He didn't include us last year though, when
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: the Good Guy Award, which which usually in the past
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: we had been included in. So I don't know, I
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: get on fine with him. My I mean, Paul and
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: I were talking about though, well, you know how like
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: a president, you know, picks their vice president based on
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: who can we bring in to you know, get the
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: ex vote. You know, yeah, I brought in Mike to
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: get the you know, the blogger the blogger vote. Yeah,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: you got some blogger rep. But but Paul and I
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: were talking about it hasn't worked. Just just you know,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: they all kind of sit together, and I, you know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I do practices with those guys. I get along with everybody.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: But I just think that there's an element of group
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: think when you're all sitting together and you're all talking
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: about stats and you're all calling each other's attention and stuff. Now,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: granted I'm sitting with Paul and Andy. You know who
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: purports to that theory is Mike Reece. He does his
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: own thing. He doesn't want to care. And I mean,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I'm skewed shirt sitting with Paul and Andy and and
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: you know, there's some side joking conversations going on. But
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: I just like having that separate perspective. And then I
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: like being able to go to Twitter and you know, say,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: all right, did I miss anything? What did they all see?
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: What are they all talking about? Because a lot of
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: times they come out of practice and everybody's got the
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: same kind of take the same numbers, the same things
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: that stood out, And you know, I just think it
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: provides more value if you're you know, trying to be
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: neutral and not be influenced by the people sitting around
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: you being like, oh look at that play look, oh
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: look at you know. That is the main reason I know,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: I like to play up the fact that I don't
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: really like any of them. And that's what because I don't.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I have no problems with very virtually any of them
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: on a personal basis. And I think Andrew's a nice
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: a nice kid. But that's why I like to sit
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: by myself. In general, I sit with Mike. I'll sit
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: with Andy, Mike Giardi, um, Mike Reese. I'll always try
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: to Mike's always floating around like Fred, but I always
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: try to go over to Mike Reese at some point,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: you know, just a sort of touch base. He does
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: the same thing every every practice. He comes up to
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: me after practice. Yeah what I miss? What I miss?
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: You know, like and you know that kind of stuff.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: It's always good to have some communication. But Mike is right,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: like when you read ten different beat writers and they
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: all have the same exact impression, that's not genuine. Yeah,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: And Mike, even during you know, when we used to
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: have locker room AX, he would even do the same
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: strategy there, you know, wherever the scrum was, he goes
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: somewhere else and talk to the guy that no one's
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: talking to. Yeah, you know, now part of that the
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: locker room thing is what you're doing. Yeah, Like you
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: have a luxury if you're not necessarily beholden to the
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: story of the day, right, So you don't need that. Yeah,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: you know, if you know everybody's talking to one guy
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: just because that's the guy that's available, then you don't
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: need that. But if like I always use the Ted
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Johnson example when Ted Johnson would a wall when he
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: found out that he was going to be inactive for
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: the opener, that's the story, Like, you need to talk
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: to Ted john Like, you can't be wandering around talking
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: to a practice squad guy and not get ted Johnson's
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: reaction that Nay, that was the story of that day.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: So sometimes if you're the beat guy, you can't afford
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: to miss the story. True, but the logic, I mean,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: I would wholeheartedly disagree with that. The the beat is
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: stacked by the way, like I mean, Fred will tell you,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: like the caliber of guys that you know used to
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: be back in the day, I mean Will McDonough and
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: ron Borges, Kevin Mannox, Yeah, you know Ronnie Hobson, Like
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: whatever you think of Borges, he was a good writer.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: He was a good reporter too, Like yeah, you know
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: did he did he have biases? Yeah, just like they
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: do now, only they're different, right, Borgeses were negative. These
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: guys are positive, right, But there's definitely a bias. Yeah,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: there's probably only two people that I seek out to
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: actually read what they write about the Patriots, And I
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: think he's going to get the same two that I do. Yeah, No,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: probably different, it's going to be different, But I Bedardenalos
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: are those are the two I expect? Yeah? Really it
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: went over to ye see for me, No, for me,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: it's recent current. Oh yeah, but current is not really
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: like the beak. No, but Current doesn't have to do that.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: Get my facts from Mike, Yeah, and then my opinion
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: from time. I would agree with you, Fred. I think
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: that's a good way to go about it. If you
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: if you don't have time to read what everybody's writing. Yeah,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: those are two guys to go to. I'm not interested
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: in is like, uh, you know who was at the
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: three technique and you know, playing the inside shade like
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I I mean, I leave that to scouts. Yeah, and
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: those those two guys, that's what that's where they are.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: They think they're scouts. Yeah, I like it. That's fine,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: that's good. There's the audience though everybody has the room. Absolutely.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: I wouldn't never make fun of anybody that wants to
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: know more about football and thinks those guys do. Yeah,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: I mean, and I didn't mean that in any I
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: don't even count Reese as I mean, I just think
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: he is just like kind of the stable runner of
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: the ship. That of course he's telling you what's happening.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: You have to read them. You have to read them.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I'm not I didn't mean to
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: imply that Oh, I don't read. I mean that just
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: is like a given to me. And the same thing
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: with Current though, but I think I agree with how
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: you said it. Current's a little bit on the outside
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: and he'll come out you know some I what I
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: like about Current. You never know what you're gonna get. Like,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: I think he has really strong opinions one way or
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: the other. Something sometimes I do I want to know
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: gives the team, not the play. I can see the
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: play myself, he like. I can watch the games on
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Sundays and I can watch the practices at training GAMP,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: and I'm comfortable that what I see and what I
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: think I'm comfortable with. I don't need someone else's opinion
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: on again. Yeah, who won the one on one battle
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: between you know and Andrews? Right right? I can watch
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: that myself. Yeah. But what I don't know sometimes is
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: when Tom Carmon will say that this was something I
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: read from him during the course of the winter that
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: one of the things about the defensive coordinator was that
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Steve does a lot of the defensive coordinator Steve Belichick
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: does a lot of the defensive coordinator duties, but wasn't
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: as comfortable speaking in front of the team to deliver
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: the game plan, and that's what Gerard Mayo would come
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: in because he was more comfortable in that environment. I
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: can't I don't know that. I can't see that, right,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: I can't experience that he's giving me something. Yeah, well,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: I mean the other the other guys have given you,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: like you know, who's the third third stringthree technique? Yeah,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: that's not reporting. Yeah yeah, well, Uman, Mike, I'm trying
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: to remember who said it. One of the linebackers said it, though,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: might have been McMillan talking about Steven Gerard and the
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: way he describes Steve was the guy in the back
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: of the room who would chime in with things. So
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: I mean it kind of that's not that's not And
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: I also think it makes you know, it just makes
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: sense with who Garrod Mayo was. He was captain of
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: a defense, he's a linebacker, he's called plays. I mean,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I think that that goes a long way towards you know, accountability. So, um,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: you know, interesting, it is interesting. Um. Joe has a question.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: He says, of all the drafts the Patriots have had,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: which draft before the season started were you were not
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: a fan of? Is it this season's draft. Who's asking
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: this question? Um, this is the same person who um
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: want to you know, said that it was a stack beat,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: right according to Andrew draft to Yeah right, yeah, that's
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: exactly what I was thinking. Is that the one that's yeah,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Harry and yeah Harry. Yeah, Well, you know, does it
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: count with Pete Carroll? Sure? Because I remember at the
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: time like that was a bad draft. It was like
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Chris Christy, you know, I like, you know, that was Belichick.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: That was Why do I keep thinking he was? That
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: was Carroll Belichick's first draft pick. It was like twenty seventeen,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: they only took like four guys total, like in the
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: whole draft. That was one of those two. Yeah it
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: was Tony Was it in Tonio Garcia? Yeah? Yeah, maybe
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: wise maybe it was in that group. Perhaps I Forgetio
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: was a way we could look these through my computer
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: down for this, But yeah, there's definitely been Uh. I mean,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: I think last year's twenty twenty with with mac that
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: was like boom boom one two, that's gonna that's gonna
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: be okay. It looks like, you know, three guys that
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: out of the top four picks that contributed significantly. Yeah,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I'm hoping things that happened this year make two years
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: ago a better draft, you know. Yeah, I mean I
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: think that's on the table. That's a big part of it.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: You know our Za or Keen are they gonna are
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: they gonna do anything? And then Ronnie Perkins, Perkins, well
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: those guys this year, those guys are drafted last year?
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Oh where they Yeah? Yeah, but they're all the same
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: thick I think. I mean the twenty nineteen drafts kind
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: of gone. But I mean at twenty twenty, twenty twenty one,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I think all those guys, you know, any of those
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: that twenty was the one that I think Fred's looking at. Dougga,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: maybe Cher is a better player than you're shown so far.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Maybe you could look at that differently. But yeah, I
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: mean I don't know. I think he's a think that
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: that looks like a shaky draft to me. Dougger does it?
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Does you know? It has been solid? I like Dugger.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I like Dugger, I think more than most, which is
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: very rare for me to be higher on a Patriots
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: player than a lot of our listeners. Yeah, I just
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: love to see him hit the next level this year.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: And I mean I think he started to find the
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: ball last year a little bit more. It seemed like
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: he'd be starting to get a little more comfortable in
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: coverage and stuff. What's the ceiling? How much you know?
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Is he a true I think you can work all
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: all the way up to the manager of the department,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: and then wasn't paying attention. That's when the big bucks
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: start rolling in. Um, we were talking about that reporter
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: in San Francisco that had the beef with the player
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: UM Grant Sean and Petaluma writes in that I've seen it.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: It's in the Bay Area on a roadside. He says,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: just an FYI, everyone hates Grant Cone. Oh really that's
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: the guy. Players, other reporters, fans, everyone see. That's why
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: this is where I was getting. Yeah, he's a smug, smarmie,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: self serving little tool. His daddy was a Niners beat
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: guy who got him the job. His daddy, kin Law
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: was only expressing what everyone feels about the guy. It's
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: a surprise something like that hasn't happened sooner with him.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Who Yeah, I don't know what the details are, but
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I you hears something like that and immediately seems like
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: it's all one side you all. I always think to myself,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: that's not what it is. There's another side to that
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: story that we don't know, and that's probably part of it.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Had there been other beat writer, I mean, I'm assuming
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: maybe Felger walked that line a little bit of guys
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: that maybe we'll get unto the player's skin a little bit.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like there's anybody really on the beat
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: right now. When Felger was a beat writer, he was
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: he was, he was on board, like he was totally different. Yeah,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: he was totally different. He played the game, right, he
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: played the game. Oh yeah, he was Like I said,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: I was at the fortieth anniversary for Robert Kraft Admira
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: and at my table was Felger and Scott Pioli. He
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: was so in the pocket of the of the team.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: How many other beat writers were there, I don't remember
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: any Yeah, there's a different reason why he was there,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: but I'll save that for anyway. But there's nobody like
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: that right now. I feel like that, like, oh they
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: hate him, like questions. I mean, I think I think
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: there's people they don't like. Yeah, I mean I think
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: you know people that they don't I'm sure Tommy probably has.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: I mean, but I think he does it in a
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: way that is I gotta ask this. Yeah, yeah, he's
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: he's good about it. But I mean those guys tended
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: to put there are guys that could under bill skin,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: to be sure, and there's one that you would never expect. Yep, yep,
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: all right, five five five hundred. Web radio is the email.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: Let's go to Sean and Vancouver. Who's been holding on? Hey,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: Sean hero Paul observation. I saw that you said that
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: time Montgomery spent time I practiced as a receiver. Do
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: you see him trying or you see the Patriots trying
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: them a spot at all in the slot? Um? Yeah,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think so. I mean, yeah, I
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: mean Canny Canny operate out of the slot. Yeah, he's
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: not a not a huge guy, and he's probably quicker
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: than fast. Yeah. I mean, I think I wouldn't rule
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: it out. But I just think that people are searching
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: for like the unicorn again, like they're they're searching searching
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: for Edelman Ker, you know, And I don't know, I
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: just doubt. I mean, I don't know. I feel like
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I think the odds are against that. I feel like
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: he's just kind of on the injury bench, and then
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: like if James White can't go with Jacobe Meyers or like,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: depending on which position gets dinged, that's where they'll kind
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: of move him to. I kind of look at him
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: as the Brandon Bolden replacement, and I think that maybe
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: he has a higher end on offense, despite the fact
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: that I thought Bolden had a pretty solid year last
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: year filling in. I think they look at him as
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: a guy who will be a core for special teamer, perfect,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: who can play out of the backfield, who can catch
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: passes and do different things. Yea, if we're in a pinch,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: we can put him here for you know, we could
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: boom over there if we need to. You know, I'm
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: not going to dismiss his chances to be able to
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: play in the slot. I think he could do that.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: I think that's when we when we saw him the
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: other day, he was kind of running from the slot
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: more more often than not. Right, I thought you meant
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: his media availability, Yeah, oh yeah. Mike wasn't high on
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: the Wison. I always saw him as someone who's like
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: good at a lot of things, but never great at anything.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: But last year he really built himself into that white role.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: You know, eventually was like shake key to start, but
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: then he was pretty decent, And I would agree that's
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: that's that's how I think of Time Montgomery. I think
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: because he can play running back in wide receiver, I
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: think people think more of him, like, oh, there's this
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: eighty something guy who lines up in the backfield. But
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: but you know, because he wasn't a good enough wide receiver, yeah,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: and they moved into running backer. He's not a good
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: enough running back to be a full time running back,
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: but because he can do him bold, he's carved out
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: a nice career for himself, all right, sort of a
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Swiss army neck. Okay, yeah, thanks, Sean, appreciate the call.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: Todd's in North Carolina. Hey, Todd, let me start by
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: throwing Marine Corps under the bus. I called it in
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: yesterday to the show, and he goes, PFW and Progress,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: Oh and it was an even PU Patriots unfiltered Rook
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: show though yeah he never it was Rook show. I
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: just slipped up and said unfiltered, right, Yeah, Matt's never mad.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Progress doesn't even know what it is anyway, Guys, I
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: was talking to a friend and they seem to think
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: that maybe part of the defensive drop off last year
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: was just fatigue because the accompanying pieces to Barmore and
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Jude arm just got worn out and we did they didn't,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: you know, they weren't able to hold their position, so
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Jude On and uh Barnmore started to fall off towards
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: end of the year. I don't know. I thought it
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: was just they played tougher teams, the schedules got harder.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: But what's what's your take on that? Yeah, I don't
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: think that like did J. C. Jackson get tired like Mills?
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I think it's what, did you
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: play a better schedule? Yeah, But I also think it's
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: bigger than that. It was bigger than I think they
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: they played below their talent level. I think they you know,
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: it was bad, but I don't think it needed to
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: be as bad as it was. And I think it's
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: been like that for a couple of years now, and
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: that's you know, if you if you do it again
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: this year, you're the same kind of thing. It's schedule
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: is gonna be defined by that final stretch run and
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: you know, they got to find a way to get
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: back to that all right, you got some leeway in September,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: figure out what you do, lock in on it in
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: October and November and then and then really start to
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: execute it in December, and we just we just haven't
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: seen it. Now with the extra game, it's even you know,
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: more exacerbated by the poor play down the end, and
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: you know, with teams pushing for playoff positions and all that,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: it's it's not gonna fly this. Do you think anybody
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: mailed it in? Like my friend I guess I kind
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: of agree with them said that J. C. Jackson for
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: the last couple of games was thinking out. I think
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: he mailed it in in the second half of the
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: playoff game. Yeah, that's it. I don't think he mailed
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: it in down the stretch. I mean there was a
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: game I forget which one where he missed that tackle
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: around the run around below. It was Buffalo in the
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: second half, right, yeah, yeah, So you know, those things
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: tend to like take on a life of their own. Typically,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: put you take that one play and then you draw
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: a picture of that's what he was, you know, and
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: you get out on the team anymore. That's part of
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: the equation too, Right, If he had resigned because Devin
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: mccordy had a couple of those plays in the same
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: second half. But as Mike likes to point out, every
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: thirty seconds, he resigned here, So no one's saying that
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: he took the took the second half. All right, thanks
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: h David and Maine writes in first they have a
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: bone to pick with Mike, It's obvious that there are
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: times you disagree with Paul. Why not me? What? Why
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: don't anybody have a bone to pick? There's plenty of people. Um,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: it's time you disagree with Paul, but you don't dive
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: into an argument with Paul's echo chamber. Eric off the show. Now,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: this is the perfect opportunity to step up to the
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: wide challenge and fight the good fight. There are times
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: even Fred concedes. Now, so question, where do the three
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: of you disagree the most on the Patriots for this year?
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: Can they over come Belichick's drafting Hubris? Can Mac become
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: a true Pro Bowl quarterback? Where do we disagree the most?
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: I think there's hope Paul doesn't well, I mean, I
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: think I would just say I think Paul's bigger concern
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: is the offense, and our bigger concern is the defense. Oh,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: I'm equally concerned about both. Oh okay, y see, I'm not.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: I don't think we have much to disagree on. I
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: hate to let the guy down. I think we want
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: agree on a lot. And I'll tell you one thing
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: for me, monkeys fight. I'll tell you another thing. I
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: can count on one hand the amount of things Eric
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: ever said that I agree with. So to have him
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: be my echo chamber, I don't think so. I wonder
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: if Verick's listening. No, he didn't listen when he was here.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: It's true, Yeah, he's probably like I'm serious, like like
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: he is so happy right now to be free of this.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: Did Mike and I ever tell you the story about
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: the weekend when we signed Cam Newton? It was like
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: in late June, Yeah, that you called me. You and
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: Matt called me on like a at our Sunday. I think, yeah,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: and you told me, you know, get ready this is
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: happening and blah blah blah blah. Kim talking about it
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: with Mike on Monday. You think Eric knows, wasn't He
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: had vacation that week and we were like, we were off, like,
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: what's what's the odds that he has had no idea. Well,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: I do still watch the news that evidently, fortunately for
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: the Patriots that made it on the news. So he
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: probably follows ten times the amount of people on Twitter
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: that I do, but none of them are the people
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: that would get you the Patriots right right, Nope. If
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: you want to know, like, you know a new restaurant
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: that opened up in Madrid, he just got like, I
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: think Mike has concerns about the offense in the coaching scenario.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: My concerns are probably bigger than Mike's. But I don't
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: think that he thinks it's a nothing burger and I
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: think it's huge. I think I think it's bigger than
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Mike thinks. Yeah, we're not going to fight about that. No, No,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: it is no bigger than you think. I'm like, that's
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: not anything to really fight up. We're both on the um,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: you know, concerned with it. I think mac Jones is
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: probably something down the road that we could argue about.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: But but you're always surprised that I'm not like all in.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: I don't think we're that far apart right now on
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: most things. Yeah, and the fact that Fred, like you said,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: even Fred sort of relents now, relents about what like,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: you don't argue with me quite as specificiously about right now.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: It's like because you're right right, right like, And I
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: know people don't like that because you just want to
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: always think they have a chance to win the super Bowl.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: I don't think anybody in this room right now thinks
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: they have a chance to win the super Bowl. Back
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: when Brady was here, we argued a lot because I
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: thought the Patriots are pretty good, right, you know, it
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: always that Trump card to go down at the end,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: to move on. I couldn't wait to get to this
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: point where it's I thought Brady was a good quarterback,
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: you know, right. For some reason, Mike couldn't wait to
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: get rid of him. That's a great point. Eric thought
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: the window closed in twenty fifteen, fifteen. I think it
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: was before that. Really, Uh, Jake from that's what happens
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: when he gives an opinion, right, and that's why he
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: doesn't give a lot. Nope, Jake from Bendigo, Australia, he's
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: got a bone to pick with me. Everyone gets drunk
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: holiday in Australia because it's the best drinking culture in
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: the world. Also, every second animal could kill you. So
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: what's what's not enticing about that, I said, I had
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: no interest to vacationing in Australia. Yeah, it kind of
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: makes my point. Oh did you happen to see the
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: guy that wrote in an ASPFW He was he wanted
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: us to not talk as much about the coaching thing,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: but at the bottom he said, he's from Napa Valley
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: and nobody's absolutely nobody sniffed the cort right. Eric went
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: on a whole big rant about how they do actually
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: sniff the court before he left here. Yeah, yeah, and
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: that's what the guy from Napa Valley said. I mean,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: I know it's an obscure, you know, wine area. I'm
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I'm not denying that people sniff the court. They do.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: What I'm saying is that experts say it means nothing
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: like occasionally you'll be able to smell like if a
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: wine went totally bad, because you can smell that, But like,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: you know, like, what did it smells like wine to me?
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: I'm sorry? What was that? Sounds like a red probably
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: or a Two football questions, One, do you think we
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: will get the throwbacks this year? Yes? I do think
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: we'll get that. I hope so. And Two does anyone
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: on here have a crack at fantasy football. I'm thinking
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: of giving it a crack this year. Any tips Like
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I don't like fantasy Matt, you do it, Matt, I
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: suck at it, But you have like four teams going
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: and I suck at it. Okay. I used to play
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: fantasy a lot, and I had a partner who was
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: way into it and would want to have conversations about it.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: And I just found it too. I like just rooting
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: for the Patriots and watching one team and knowing, like
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: not having a like, Oh, I got Seattle and I
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: got to figure out at eleven o'clock how many points
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: this guy scored. It's the most accurate about ever anybody
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: ever made. I don't know who made it first. But
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: nobody cares about your fantasy football team. No one cares
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: about your NCAA brackets. No one cares about your fantasy football, right.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: I mean, can it be fun when it's in the
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: playoffs and you're coming down and you've got a little
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: bit of a lead or a little bit of a margin,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: and there's one random player you're watching Monday night football
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: to see if that guy delivers, Like that could be fun.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: That could be fun. But I just found that the
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: tonnage of trying to follow it every Sunday and all
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: the games, and how are all my guys doing it?
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: It's a thing Mike and I agree on. That's exactly
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: why I don't. But you don't have to just want
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: I just want to watch the games. I don't want to.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: You can set it and forget it, I know, but
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't want to watch the
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: games with the thought that my team scored a touchdown,
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: but right guy didn't score right. And that's why I
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: never really got into it. Like if I had Ceedee
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: Lamb and you know, against last year and then he
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: scored that touchdown, like I would want to be like, well,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: at least I got six points. The one year I
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: did it, I did exactly what you're talking about, Fred,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: I said it, and forget it. I mean it add
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: weeks that I didn't even have quarterback active, just auto drafted.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: But by the time that's respectful the rest of the league,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: you know, like I didn't like it, wasn't that disrespectful.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: I lost one game the whole year and I won
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: the championship, proving didn't even look at it. How it's
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: one thousand percent luck based. Yeah, all I did was
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: picked all my favorite guys. I picked Curtis Martin went
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: in like two thousand and four, but just because I
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: like him, he was like passed his prime. He ended
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: up leading the league and rushing. I had Michael Vick
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: like I just it was silly. It was a silly,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: silly like fantasy team. I never made one transaction the
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: entire year. In the championship game, I was one. I
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: had one few one too few players to have a
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: full active roster. I just let it go. Yeah, and
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: I won, And then there's like people, I'll never do
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: it again. Do you really think the experts are experts
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: in fantasy fo Andrew Berry like, I don't even field yates.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I think yeah, yeah, I think more. You know about
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: who's injured, who's in, who's out, who's playing well, what
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: the matchups are, what good defense is good, you know
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: what they I think there are people that are like
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: really really good at that. I think so too, even
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: though I don't do it um Like I would say
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: the equivalent of me winning that, you know and just
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: saying it's entirely based on luck is like you know,
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: someone who bets games and says, I like the Ravens
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: uniforms better than the Steelers. I'm gonna bet the Ravens
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: and they win. You can win doing that like it's
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: but it's luck. And I think that's what I did
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: in Fantasy that year, Like is that what broke you
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: of it? And you're like this, No, I just like
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: they they they needed one more guy to fill out
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: the league. It was a Patriots league, and we did
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: it all together. And I just did it just to
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: be a team player. And I mocked everybody, as you
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: know I can alan right. Oh. The third thing that
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: no one cares about, Fred Ash your golf game. No
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: one cares that you're Pard the ninth that Leo J. Martin, Right,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: no one cares. It's like that guy, the TV guy,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: you know, people growing up to be their parents. Yeah,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: nobody cares. There's nobody here made the movie right, right,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: you know what I mean? It came down seventeen the fairway.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: I just really yea hear people talk like that. Oh yeah,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: and I golf all the time, and I tell you
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: that I went golfing. I never like to hear about
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: how your body felt, like, oh man, I was dying,
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: you know, how well or bad you play. Because I
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: had to play a team. I don't usually play a team,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: but I did a week ago Monday. This is a difference.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: Fat bash Alan says, glad to see in his absence
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: that Eric is still contributing as much to the show
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: as he did when Andy was there. Speaking of Big Head,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: he seems to be really high on Jack Jones. Just
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: curious if you have any favorite new additions to watch
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: to play a significant role on this team this season.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: Not yet. I mean, I think he's an easy one
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: if you watch that practice, just because he was involved
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: and look quick, look look scrappy. I thought, if you
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: had to say right now, other than Cole Strange, could
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: you pick a guy that you think will play a
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: significant role this year. I want to believe Marcus Jones
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: will at least on, you know, as a returner and
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: kind of a piece in the in the secondary somewhere.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: But after that, yeah, I don't know if you're gonna
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: get anybody that plays a significant role. I mean, Cole Strange,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: I think we'll start that will be obviously significant, but
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: it's hard to see Jack Jones and Marcus Jones both
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: unless they both play out of their minds, you know,
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: dethroning Jalen Mills and Malcolm Terrence Mitchell and Jonathan Jones
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: and Miles Bryant. And it's hard to see them do that.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: But I think strange. You're right left Garden as a returner.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I think that's the minimum. That's the minimum I'm hoping for.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Let's see, Matt writes in and by the way, Andy
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: sat with Mike and I and that's why we're all
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: high on Jack Jones. Sort of full circle. When you
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: sit together, you'll like minded, right, Yeah, Matt says he's
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: writing in from Chicago. Then a long time Patriots fan,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: but a new listener to the podcast. We'll welcome. I
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: believe Rashad brought up a similar point on Tuesday's podcast.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: But do you think at the Patriots defense will carve
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: out a niche for themselves this season, such as having
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: a great run stopping game or a third down defense
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: for example, Like, well, they kind of have something they're
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: known for on defense. I mean, I think Paul said
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: it and I agree, Sorry to do that again, um,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: but that they were good on third down last year.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: I think it was one of the one of the
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: only areas especially third and longs. I think they're one
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: of the best teams in the league, but it's hard
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: to see it on paper right now. I can't. I
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: can't sit here and give you a good reason why
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: they run defense is going to suddenly, you know, turn
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: around this year, or you know that their pass rush
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: is suddenly gonna be better. I mean, Barmore and jude
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: On feel great. Hopefully they're able to do it and
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: you can get some complimentary guys that open up stuff
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: for them a little bit. But after that, I don't know.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: That's the safety group. How do they deploy them? Is that,
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: you know, something that gives them a new edge, Like
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: that's the only kind of thing I could make it. Well,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: they could create some turnovers turnover team, but like, but
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: getting pressure of force and bad throws. You know, he
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: didn't you didn't really do that. I mean it seemed
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: like Josh Allen had you on your heels and was
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: just dealing. You know, how do you get him uncomfortable?
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: How do you get him into mistakes? That's you know
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: what you just you didn't see any of it down
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: down the stretch last year. Also, do you think that
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: trading down and letting Trent McDuffie go to Kansas City
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: will come back to bite the Patriots. I know they
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: don't play Kansas City this year, but he seemed like
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: a guy who could have an immediate impact at corner.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I thought he was fine.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: I like, he just seemed like he matched up with
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: their kind of guy at a position and need. But
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the day, do you
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: feel like, oh, he's a thousand times better than Marcus
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Jones or Jacksons. I don't know. They all seem kind
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: of in the same little family a guys. Any of
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: them could be, you know, maybe Marcus more than Jack.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: But like, but like I said on the Draft Show,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: I wasn't pounding my fit like we gotta get Trent McDuffie.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: He's gonna change it. Like if we had Trent McDuffie
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: right now, I probably feel exactly the same about the defense.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: What if you had Trent McDuffie and Cole Strange same.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: I don't know, Like, fine, you don't think Trent McDuffie
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: is better than the Joneses. I mean, maybe maybe potentially
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: a little. I just can't see a five eight guy
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: really covering out a niche as a regular cover corner
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: in the NFL. Maybe I'm a sizeist. Yeah, does that
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: make me a size It seems like he's in between,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: you know, like, so is he at five of whatever
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: he is? Five eleven? Is he you know, he's not
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: that big for outside? So is he going to be
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: an outside guy or is he gonna get stuck in
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: the slot? And then if you're in the slot and
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: you're five eleven versus five eight, I don't know. I mean,
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see what kind of player he is.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: Maybe he's a starting outside corner, and maybe he looks great,
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: and damn that's exactly what we needed and we were wrong.
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: But you're right. I mean, that doesn't mean just because
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: he was drafting the first round, we've seen it. But
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: I don't mean he's good my you know, my concern
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: with him was just that, all right, well, he's not
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: that prototypical man kind of size. Yeah, he's got all
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: the intangibles, but he's probably more of this like slot
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: safety kind of hybrid guy. And and and I don't
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: know for sure if that's exactly what they need. So
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: I think i'd think a little more of McDuffie than
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Mike does. Is that enough for an argument? Yeah, sure,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: he's gonna stink Paul. We'll make that into an argument.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Tim and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have a
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: question for Deuceoper, he's our expert on clothing in a
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: tie or for the Patriots. What do you think about
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Jack Jones's eighty arm bands? Buddy of mine was arguing
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: about it. He thinks it's the stupidest thing ever. But
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: I think if he's sweet, a lot of kids would
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: do it. I don't know what that means. If he's
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: I think he's Yeah, well, if he's good, so what
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: I don't even know what. He wears a lot of
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: like wrist bands on his arms, so it looks like,
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: you know, there's like five, six, seven of them, so
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: it looks like they're all, you know, lining his arms.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: I don't know, but I I have to say I
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: kind of like his his overall, the way he plays,
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: the style that he plays him. But I don't know
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: that he's got an athleticism to him that sort of
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: showed up just by watching him move around the field,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: just a very like superficial first impression. Yeah, we'll see
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: just seemed kind of wired and quick and talking about
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: you know stuff. I like the fact that Bill spent
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: as much time with him as he did. I know
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: that sounds silly, but I like the fact that Bill
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: was talking to him about some of the techniques on
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: punt returns and stuff in two different times during that
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: last drill. Yeah. Joel in Lake Tahoe, California, Joel, I
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: would pay for Bill's breakdowns if he analyzed plays other
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: than punt and kick return every freaking week. If Bill
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: would break down the best four plays instead of the
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: four most boring plays. You watch the plays forward and
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: reverse about twenty times that Bill spits out one sentence,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: Look how the punter walks onto the field, look at him,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: extend his leg. Fix that, and I would come one,
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: that's that's he's no, wait a minute, what he's obviously
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: doing the Paul slash Andy exaggeration. Yes, but there's some
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: truth to every exaggeration. He doesn't like unbelievable amount of
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: special teams plays, which I think it's his insistence of
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: telling you how important special teams are. He does that
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: which no one cares. And unless it's like the game
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: winning punt return for a touchdown, no one cares. And
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: the other thing is, I do feel like when he
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: watches the play, he's he does it like he would
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: do it, you know, with his coaches. I'm sorry, but
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: most people just watching it layman like me, they're not
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: watching the ninth time to see the different Nuance showed
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: me a play a couple of times. Explain it to me,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: Describe why it worked or didn't work, whatever the case
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: may be. Who you know who did the right you know,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: maybe you know, maybe if there's a big run stuff
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: on on third and one, show me the guy that
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: no one's talking about that occupied two blockers and then
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: let's get on with it like it goes on. Well,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I think I think he does special teams a lot
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: because I think, like anything else, he doesn't really want
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: to give away what he really thinks about opponents. You know,
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: you might be right, you know, you might be right.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: I think it's more the last couple of years ago
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: you kind of have to use the special teams plays
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: the last couple of years. Let's not make last year
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: out to be like it was a train wreck. Yeah, guy,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: don't make me out to be uh Sunshine dot com.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: That's only during the season Patrick's in Germany. Since it's
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: still offseason issue, I got one quick question about Jamie Collins.
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: I think everybody knows his elite athleticism in the kind
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: of plays he's able to make. He got two big contracts,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: but never really made it as an elite player that is,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: leading a defense. What do you think is the reason
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: or reasons for that. He definitely carved out a real
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: nice career, but he'll never be remembered as the guy,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: if you know what I mean. I don't know what
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: you mean. Yeah, I don't know. I mean I think
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: he probably just one of those guys who was a
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: little bit more athletic than he was. I don't want
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: to say leader as but just but I also don't
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: think he was ever paid as a superstar. Like. I
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: don't think that those contracts were completely like out of
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: the realm at you know, yeah, reality for him. You
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: know he went to Cleveland, he was like the elading tackler.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: I don't think he was. He's not Miles Garrett on
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Cleveland's defense, right. That's the the money for the like
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: the elite players is twice what Jamie Collins made. Didn't
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: even like a fifty million dollar contract something like that.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: And I don't remember or am I misremembering? Did he
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: get more money than I thought? Oh? I saw it
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: with too. I saw Deuce's reaction in the different monitor
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: Recover his rehab. His rehab girl was on you like
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: her Recovery America? Yeah, the old lady. No, she's fine,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: an old lady. She's a cool and he and he
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: used to be obsessed with that woman on National Force directional.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: I said she had a he's got a type. He
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: liked her. Do you guys think you guys disagree with
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: me on that? Can we fight on that? Like? Did
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: Jamie Collins get like Khalil mac money? I missed it
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: or something he didn't like? He was never paid like
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: a super st. Yeah, no, he got, but he got
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: good free agent contract, but it always flamed out for whatever.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: I mean, he just hadn't had. But I think he
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: played fine. Yeah, and it's hard. He's a little bit
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: of a different cat. Why why do you think he
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: keeps leaving here? Right? Right? He's an odd ball? Yeah,
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: and he's not Yeah, he's not signed. I don't know
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: if football is as important to him as they would
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: like it to be. Right, And It's like every team
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: you're on, there's always guys who are super talented but
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: just weirdos, or guys who aren't all that talented but
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: they love it and they're great leaders and just great guys,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: and or they're super talented, but there's just something that
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: holds them back from being, you know, seeing their full potential. Yeah,
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: you know, especially like it stinks when it's an injury
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: at that situation where it's like a guy who is, oh,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: got all this potential, but he just can't seem to
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: stay on. Did I ever tell you about my coffee
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: table book idea on coffee tables? No, it's the four years,
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: fifty million is what he signed with Cleveland. I don't
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: think that's a ridiculous contract. Yeah, it's he could have
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: been cofee right, Yeah, I can tell you about Tony Knnigliaro,
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: Vo Jackson. You know all those guys. Just make it
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: a post like, yeah, both of those guys. Yeah, No,
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: there's a whole there's a whole list of them. You know,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: all of those guys we do just pat No, it's
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: gotta be everybody. Let's go to kill a sick five
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: five past five hundred Johns in Duxbury. Hey John, Johnny, gentlemen,
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: who are you John? Doing great? Yeah? Well, you know
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: of all the farm you guys touched a couple of
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: minutes ago about the defense being a problem. But I
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: think the real problem is that linebacker. I mean, you've
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: got you done and deadly, and outside of McMillan, who
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: had somewhat of a resume, you've got Jennings, Oochie, Wilson,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Perkins and mcgron and not one of them. Isn't a
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: big question mark? You're right, Yep, you're right. I think
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: they're they're rolling the dice there. What's the backup plan
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: for that? If these guys don't work out? I don't
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: think there is one. I think they feel like that
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: group they'll get, they'll get enough guys. You know, you
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: get seven safeties on the field. Well they do have.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: I mean, I suppose you're right for that's a good point.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: Why don't you explain that like that? That might be
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: the backup plan is you have the four safeties. You know,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: if none of those linebackers turns out to be an
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: every down player or a guy that they can rely on,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: you know, maybe you see a lot more peppers or
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: Phillips just acting as line briers. Yeah, I mean I
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: think that's the one. Yeah, that's what we're just saying.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: All yeah, all right, thanks, But John, I think that
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: that John's point is is right. I think that's what
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: they're relying on. I wrote that draft weekend. Um. I
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: think on one of the days, I think the day
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: two analysis mean, for better or worse, it's it's time
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: for these guys. We talked about mccrown on Tuesday. He's
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: the smaller, faster type. I'm a little dubious, as I
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: mentioned on Tuesday, of just how fast he is. I know,
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: you know the timed run, you know, uh, you know,
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: is there the time speed? But when I watched them
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: a little bit at Michigan, I didn't see that kind
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: I didn't see a Devin White type kind of you know,
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: even Nakobe Dean you know, watching you know, Georgia this year.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: So we'll see if he can do that. And then
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: not only that, you know, maybe he was a four
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: four guy. What is he now coming off? Al I
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: just think one of at least two of these guys
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: that he listed off they have to step up and
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: have to be plus NFL players and they're you know,
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: going from essentially young guys who have played a handful
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: of games. Maybe in the best case scenario, you know,
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: Anthony Jennings, those j Perkins, like one of those guys
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: at least at least perfectly too have to step up.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: I'll give you a friend fred like question like he
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: was doing with Taekwon Thornton. If if Jawan Bentley is
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: a full time starter, is that good or bad? I
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: think he's bad. If it's on third down, I mean,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: I get him off the field. I mean I think
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: it's fine first second down. I mean I think he
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: needs to be better, he needs to be more consistent.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: I think he has improved a lot. But you know,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: I think it's going to be some kind of mixture
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: with with mack Wilson, with Ray Kwa McMillan. I think
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: those are the two guys. Like I said, I mean,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: everybody wants to talk about Jay look at the veterans first.
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: I think mac Wilson will be next to Bentley. I
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: really do, And I don't have much faith in that,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: to be honest with you, I think, how could you
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: you know? And I'm just judging. You know, Listen, I
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: know we've had guys that have come here that haven't
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: been terribly successful elsewhere. You know, Kyle van Noy, it's
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: a huge post a child for that, right he was
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: just sort of there in Detroit, came here, he was
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: a full time player for several years, made a lot
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: of plays. I don't know if we can expect that
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: all the time. Right, Well, that's and that's like a
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: complimentary player that feels like it puts you over the top.
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: You know, you had some guys it wasn't like we
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: need Kyle Vannoy to come in here and just be
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: the man. And right now I feel like Rakua McMillan,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: we need you to be the man. Mac Wilson, we
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: need you to be the man, like you need to
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: come in. Most of the guys they took from other
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: teams and they brought in for a look ended up
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: being similar to what they were with other teams. You know,
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: Kyle van Noy is a to me an exception, not
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: the rule. Like van Noy was a second round quasi
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: bust with Detroit. Came here and he was really good. Yep,
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: Bill and DC writes in there's been a lot of
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: talk about who will call the plays this season for
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: the Patriots, and the biggest concern among some media members
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: seems to be that if it might be Bill himself
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: did some dig I did some digging, and there were
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: thirteen head coaches that called plays last season. Most of
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: them were under fifty, with the best example being Sean McVay,
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: but there were some in their fifties and sixties, most
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: notably Andy Reid at sixty three. What are your thoughts
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: about Bill as a potential play caller? Obviously, he's seen
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: everything there is to see in this league on both
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: offense and defense, and would bring a wealth of knowledge
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: to the position. But at seventy, is it too much
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: to expect him to be able to handle those duties
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: over a seventeen game season. I'd be concerned that he'd
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: wear down trying to do it all, and that would
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: affect the overall performance of the team. No, he needs
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: to be the head coach. He needs to be the
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: head coach who oversees everything and can go where he's
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: needed to go. He can't be enveloped in do it
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: well because maybe they have staffs around them that that
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: can support it better. Perhaps maybe they're coaches who came
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: up that's their thing, you know, John Gruden, Josh mcdandy's
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: are play caller guys, Kyle Shanahan. Um, it's not his thing.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: I think he's most effective when he's able to hover
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: around and take the big picture of you on things
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: and make the call on you know, when to go
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: for it and all that kind of stuff. So I
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: don't I think it's just gonna be It's gonna be
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Joe Judge, and I think I think he could do it.
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: He's got the mfant over this. I agree with you,
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: he can't do it. He's gonna have to delegate. You know.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: If he does do it, he's gonna have to hand
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: over the defense. That's why I don't want somebody, you know,
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: That's why I don't want him do it. I think
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: I think he needs to do it on defense. Yeah,
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: I don't think he'll wear down because he's seventy. I
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: don't think it'll take away from you know, like to
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: Mike's point about I think he's in charge of the team.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: I don't think that. I don't. I don't worry about
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: the decisions suddenly. Oh no, I wasn't ready for that
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: because I was calling a play. I worry about what
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: happens to the defense if he's not there to put
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: as much effort into what I think again not fact.
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: My opinion that that Dallas game, to me, was the
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: line of demarcation and he said, I can't do this anymore,
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: and he basically took over the defense. That's what I
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: think happened. Now, maybe he won't need to do that
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: this year. Maybe they can get it straightened out, but
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: I don't think so. I think he's gonna need to
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: to do that on defense. He can't do that on
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: defense if he's calling players on offense, right, But I
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: do think there's a really good chance that he'll call
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: plays on offense. Um, yeah, I see, I think what
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: I hate about I think he can do it, first
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: of all. But what I hate about the idea is
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: you lose him for the rest of the teams, like
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: how many how often, whether it's offense or defense or
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: what you know, he turns his back to the field
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: and he's with that group talking about adjustments or something
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: that he saw or that's fine, you know, like you say,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: like like the thirteen other players, why can't you know
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: the thirteen other coaches? None of them have to run
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: their defense too. Right, that's my point. I think he
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: can run the team. I think he can turn around
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: and talk to the offense, just like he turned around
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: and talked to the defense at times. Right, he had
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: us back to the game many times, I can guarantee
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: you that. But he can't do both on those thirteen teams.
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: And you know, I'm not an expert. I don't know
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: all the names, but I'll bet you on most of
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: them where the coach is calling the plays was an
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: experienced defensive coordinator. Yeah, Like that's that's Sean mcvay's thing, right,
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: that's why you Originally he got Wade Phillips to make
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: sure he had a strong veteran presence. Now Wade Phillips
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: is gone now. But yeah, I also think people make
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: it out to be so cut and dry, like builds
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: the head coach. He's on the headset, Like he doesn't
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: have to be holding the card and talking to the
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: quarterback to be calling the plays. He can say, hey, Joe,
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: let's go in this direction with these Let's let's try
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: to go this, you know, and continue to take in
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: the big picture, we're gonna run it here, right, but
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: but not have to be like in the weeds of
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: like or fifteen seconds, let's go. It's a strong right,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: you know that reading off the play I agree those
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: because those two things aren't the same. I agree with you,
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: there's there there's some nuance to it that I think
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: is lost a little bit on how play calling works.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: And as we touched on last show too, though, it's
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: always such a buzz thing for fans of like the
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: offense of the play calling. You know who people get
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: so mad in Max ear? Yeah, I think it'll be
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: Joe Judge and that's who it is right now, and
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: I think he'll be throughout. Is Bill chiming in and situations?
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: I probably? I bet he did it with Josh too.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: Of hey, let's think about this here, those kind of
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: things of of guiding the offense and not necessarily being
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: in the weeds of the quarterback communication run out right
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: right right, all right, all right? Watch the bundle linebacker
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: on this one. You know they're gonna drop out. No,
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: no disrespect to the ind call, but we're going out
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: all right, right right. I Meanwhile, they're like culture, they
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: just walk right down the field on defense. What are
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: we supposed to do? Just tell them to do their job?
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: I'm we're working on my offense here, you know, like
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: that's that's not gonna happen. Tell them to do their job,
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: Alex and Pentucket. Uh, just wanted to touch on something
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: Paul mentioned in an earlier show. I'm still really concerned
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: that this defense will get run all over. There was
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: minimal change to the front seven, and we didn't take
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: one of the top linebackers. Do you all believe that
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: the run defense is our weakest point on defense or
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: is it still corner? Also for content purposes, I would
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: pay for seeing the PU crew versus Patriots coaching in
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: athletic challenges. That would be sight to see Brown, and
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: I've got my money on the PU coach. Something outside
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: of football could be fun. You have seeing Troy Brown.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: He's still we lost Andy. He was like most of
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: them are young, yeah, right, Like Pellegrino played like d
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: one lacrosse right there and they and they like run
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: out to practice, they run across the field. I mean
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: they're running old. We're just sitting on It's the only
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: one I could compete with, right. Joe Judge is a
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: big dude too, Yeah, I mean they're all twenty years
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: must want to get it. Unless we want to get
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: going with hockey, then let's get him out there. All
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: we get Mayo stack if we get to Choo, was like,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: what it is like you do something hockey? Maybe I could,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: I don't know, I haven't played tennis. Maybe throw throw
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: batting practice, you know, something like that. Paul striking out
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: Matt Patricia. I'm here for it. I'm here for Belichick
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: in Patricia, I could compete with both of them. Brian
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: from the Bay Area, Uh, you should be able to
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: argue about mac Jones. At various times, Paul Is called
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: mac Jones short, fat, too small, too slow, and proclaimed
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: that he does not have an NFL caliber arm. He's
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: basically saying that the Patriots will never go anywhere until
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: they dump Mac and find someone else. By the way,
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: I kind of agree with him, right, And Mike is
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: higher on mac Jones than I am. I am too,
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: but not strongly. But I'm not banging the drum then, right,
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: He's the guy forever, no questions asked. I think he's
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: got a lot to prove. I do. That's why I
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: sit down the road. That's something I think that we
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: should do. I am fine, but I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: I'll give you the spoiler alert if he has, like
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: you know, a meteoric rise this year. I'm not going
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: to be the guy that says no, no, no, he
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: still sucks. Yeah, well, he's just limited. He can't know.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: Then he's Brady. Then he overcomes his physical shortcomings with
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: his mental acuity and he becomes a better quarterback as
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: a result. Right, And I'll admit that much like I
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: did with Brady. Yeah, I'm perfectly fine with Mac. Yeah,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: me too. I mean it goes back to what I
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: said last week. I love everything he is, a great
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: way to put it, I'm perfectly fine with it too. Yeah,
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: I love everything he is off the field in terms
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: of his dedication to the team, is focused, the way
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: that he came in, the way he competes, the way
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: he bounces back from tough situations. But I think there
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: are certainly questions and and and the other part of
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: it that that people are mentioning is that it's a
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: blood bath in the league right now. Like he's got
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: to beat Josh Allen like he can be. He could
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: be a plus quarterback and still not lead his team
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: to victory over over what the Bills are right now.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: So it's a huge task and I just I don't
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: feel it's fair to him till all of a sudden
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: carve out my area And this is it. I you know,
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: this is the guy, Like you got to let him
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: prove it, and then when he does prove it, then
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: then give him credit for it. Absolutely, and I will. Yeah.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: Chris from Virginia, hearing Paul talk about Cougars, I had
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: to write in my thoughts about the coaching staff. I
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: have concerns over the offensive coaching staff, but not because
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: they haven't named an OC. Even if they name one,
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: my concerns would be the same. There's not a lot
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: of experience, and with Mac going into a second year,
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: the decision to not have someone experienced an offense is concerning.
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: I just hope for consistency with Mac and his development.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: All right, Like I know, I again, Yeah, what happens?
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: Did you talk about Cougar? Yeah? No, I mentioned Cougars,
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: but I thought we were talking about and then I
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: think he did a non sequitor. But anyway, um, listen,
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: I know people are really dumping on Patricia and Joe Judge,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: but I'm gonna go back to the fact that they
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: were NFL head coaches, and that experience is worth something.
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: And like good or bad, Joe Judge has experience with offense.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: He does. He played quarterback, he does. What what is
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: that he's played in any any as a head coach,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: you know, and like these guys like it was a
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: special team or at Mississippi State in like fifth quarterback
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: on the depth shop. But he played special teams. Okay,
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: he was the punt protector. But like he didn't get
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: get his coaching resume out, like he coached wide receivers
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: and special teams one year. Okay, but that's not an
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: experience as an offensive coordinator. I don't know. I didn't
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: say I said an offense. I didn't. It's not really
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: any like discernible experience as an offense. The email has said,
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: regardless of whether who they name always see I would,
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: he said, he, I'd still be worried because there's not
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: of a lot of experience on the offensive side and coaches. Yeah,
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: I mean in his entire career he coached partially part
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: time one year an offensive position. So there's not a
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: lot of experience on the offensive coaching staff. Does that
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: mean they can't do it? No, it doesn't mean they
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: can't do it, but it does mean like that's a
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: fact they're not experienced offensive coaches. I think he's an
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: experienced coach, Yes he is. He knows football, Yes he does. Erico,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: I think I think he can not the same. I
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: think he can coach offense. That's a leap, yeah, but
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: but leaps have been made in coaching though. I mean,
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: you know, like, these are the things that happen, right.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: All I want is one comp Just give me one
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: comp of this happening. What do you mean, like a
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: coach a team that took two defensive guys and made
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: them offensive, cordinal, there's no comp and you know, winning
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: six super Bowls in twenty years either. But it happened,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: and he's back. I'm proud of you, Fred, Thank you.
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: Andy would be proud right now. Of course Andy probably
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: would have just burst a blood vessel, right, But that
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: was that was good. I like that. Um. Chris with
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: a T I A. N. Writes in now that Eric
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: is gone, who travels with Fred on road games? This year?
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: In will this affect the pre and post game shows? Oh?
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: We'll see, Yeah, it will not affect the pre and
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: post game shows we'll see. It has been said. I
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: might make Paul all year what I never tried, what
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: I never traveled before, never dug a hole thirteen years
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: every game. We'll see how the season goes? Now how
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: much people want to travel? Yeah, well we're not done.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: We might be hiring somebody. Yeah yeah, in fact I
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: can say that we're gonna. In fact, it might already
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: be posted. Yeah, staff writer, was it? Is it posted?
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: But you did send it to me? So yeah, So um,
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: if you're sending it to him, what is what? Why
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: am I not in the loop anymore? Because because my
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: son with that Deuce is gonna hire what do you
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: mean he's hiring He's gonna work for Duce? Oh my god,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: this is this is this is I need. I don't worry, Paul.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: You're gonna be fine. But no, Deuce is gonna every
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: time I let you hire someone not Mike is the
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: only guy that I was in on the ground floor
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: and we hit Oh yeah, I'm running perfect. I hire you.
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: He doesn't yell at you. Yeah. I wasn't here to
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: do anything about that in Mike Greece. Yeah, yeah, it's
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: the rings you know, I'm still living on that. You
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: know you used to work here. You know it is
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: Chinese food orders. Um, nobody knows what you're talking about. Oh,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: sometimes you forget what things it's nobody knows what you're
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: talking about. Um. Yeah. So if you're a young staff writer,
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: as someone who's covered, maybe you want to travel, you know,
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: college sports or pro sports for you know, you want
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: to work for the Patriots. Yeah, go to glett Stadium
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: dot com. But in an app and apply what kind
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: of person you're gonna be looking for? Whatever Paul tells me.
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: Evidently I don't have already say yeah, I don't know
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: somebody who who loves it? Why would you know someone
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: that you know substantively running back, I guess I've lost
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: some some juice that I didn't know about. We'll find
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: someone who loves loves it, wants to wants to jump
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: right in right and yell at Paul. Yeah, oh, yell
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: at Paul. Paul's not involved, you'll be involved. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: well I'll be involved. So but what you see someone
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: who loves it? Oh? Yeah, somebody who's I mean to say,
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: I mean I would say somebody who was like me,
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: who wants to just be immersed in it and cover
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: it and do whatever. Someone who loves to write and report. Yep,
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: yeah right, exactly that right, you know, wants to do video,
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: wants to beyond camera, wants to produce, wants to maybe
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: at some point beyond this show. Maybe at some point
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: beyond this show. A little personality would be great. Um,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: you know, easy going and yeah, yeah, I guess that's it.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: That's buzz much fun. Well, I mean I gotta see
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: what kind of people apply, right yeah, sure, uh being
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: Fresno non football question. What are some good stories you
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: have about eccentric names, roommates, or other ancillary characters in
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: your life, you know, oddball or otherwise distinctive people with
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: whom you've crossed paths. We writeing a sitcom here, Pretty sure.
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: I've told stories of my neighbor who is an Elvis impersonator.
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: All right, yeah that's good. Yeah, I don't think he
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: does it anymore. But I had some crazy neighbors in LA.
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: I remember we had a rolling blackout one time and
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: we just listened to this girl break up with her boyfriend. Um,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: she also had two yappy Pomeranian dogs that would just
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: how did you listen to that? It was? It was
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: it wasn't even like so, you know, the powers out,
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: so there's no we can't watch TV. So it's quiet,
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: and there's maybe four feet between our building and theirs,
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: and you could just you know, hear this girl tearing.
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: The boyfriend's like hard out, you know, just and he
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: was like, what do I have to do? And me
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: and Lane are just sitting there like listen, we got
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: nothing else to do, but they but but the dogs
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: bothered our neighbor, who was this old, angry, angry guy
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: who lived next door to us. And so what he
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: did in retaliation was we start to just put like
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: I don't know if it was Japanese Korean radio. He
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: would just put like AM radio with whatever it is,
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: like Korean and blasted out his window into her apartment
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: as like psychological warfare. So we were well, but then
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: we got you know, we were we got the crossfire,
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: We get caught and we gotta listen to you know,
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: just this AM radio channel on blasts. So, m that's
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: the first random thing. I don't know what else. Yeah,
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: I'm sure I'd have to think about it, but I
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: and then I'd have to think what can I say
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: without getting sued? But you know, I've had some oddball
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: interactions with people. I'm a little concerned. I saw my
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: neighbor today out with the tree tech guy walking their
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: yard and I was like, Oh, he's using tree tech. Yeah,
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: tree tech. So I'm hoping that that's not Yeah, this
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: tree's on years the bucket truck or I don't know
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: how they're going to get back there. They're gonna get
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: a Monster Korean to get back there between our houses.
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: So I don't know. That's That's something that's on my
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: radar right now, especially after my boiler just broken. Yeah,
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: all right, well listen, that's going to be it for
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Everyone, have a good Memorial
