- 0:13Hello friends, it's Sean here. Hello friends, it's Yvonne here
- 0:17too. And it's June.
- 0:19Sure is. It's Friday.
- 0:20It's the 5th of June. Great to have your company.
- 0:24Yes, great to be here on on. The Oh yes honey, it's always
- 0:28lovely to have your company, but we have had a very, very rainy
- 0:32few weeks here in Tasmania and our rain gauge literally
- 0:35overflowed for the first time. We got to 150 mils and it kept
- 0:38on coming. Yeah, that was last week.
- 0:41It was. And then there's been more rain
- 0:43this week. So much rain, and when there's
- 0:46rain, sometimes we get these beautiful rainbows even.
- 0:49Yes, well, I'm at the risk of starting a new segment called
- 0:53Friday Funnies. I did actually hear a rainbow
- 0:56joke. OK, I'm just the other day.
- 0:59OK what? Where do bad rainbows go?
- 1:02I don't know where do bad rainbows go?
- 1:05To prism, it's a light sentence, but it gives them time to
- 1:10reflect. Oh butter.
- 1:11Boom, butter tish. See, there you go.
- 1:14That. That's the joke that keeps on
- 1:16giving well. That it just keeps.
- 1:17Going alright. Speaking of keeping on going, we
- 1:20should probably turn our attention now to keeping on
- 1:23going on our way through Proverbs.
- 1:27Such a great segue, Yvonne. Keep going.
- 1:29Talk us. In So today's Bible reading is
- 1:33from Proverbs chapter 24, and we're going to be reading verses
- 1:3715 to 22. Don't wait in ambush at the home
- 1:51of the godly, and don't raid the house where the godly live.
- 1:56The godly made trip 7 times but they will get up again.
- 2:00But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
- 2:05Don't rejoice when your enemies fall.
- 2:07Don't be happy when they stumble.
- 2:09For the Lord will be displeased with you, and will turn his
- 2:13anger away from them. Don't fret because of evildoers.
- 2:19Don't envy the wicked. For evil people have no future.
- 2:24The light of the wicked will be snuffed out.
- 2:28My child, fear the Lord and the king don't associate with
- 2:34rebels. For disaster will hit them
- 2:37suddenly. Who knows what punishment will
- 2:39come from the Lord and the King? And again.
- 2:47Don't wait in ambush at the home of the godly, and don't raid the
- 2:51house where the godly live. The godly may trip 7 times, but
- 2:56they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to
- 2:59overthrow the wicked. Don't rejoice when your enemies
- 3:04fall. Don't be happy when they
- 3:06stumble. For the Lord will be displeased
- 3:11with you, and he will turn his anger away from them.
- 3:15Don't fret because of evil doers.
- 3:18Don't envy the wicked. For evil people have no future.
- 3:23The light of the wicked will be snuffed out.
- 3:27My child, fear the Lord and the king don't associate with
- 3:32rebels. For disaster will hit them
- 3:34suddenly. Who knows what punishment will
- 3:37come from the Lord and the King? Well, this is just a great
- 3:51reminder that judgement is God's.
- 3:55Yes, I yeah, I found it good to hear the reminder not to envy
- 4:02the wicked. Sometimes you can just look at
- 4:05other people and think, oh, I wish I could get ahead like
- 4:08that. Or it just you know, but it is
- 4:12not the right way. No.
- 4:13And there's always this. You know, the concept of karma
- 4:18is just so deeply entrenched in the human spirit, like if, if we
- 4:22do good things, good things will come.
- 4:23And if they do bad things, surely bad things must come.
- 4:27And we often feel like we should be the agent of making sure that
- 4:31bad things come. And so we think badly about
- 4:33people and we hope that they have misfortune.
- 4:36But here the the wise king says, don't wish misfortune on the
- 4:40evil, that that is something that God will take care of.
- 4:44It's that challenge, you know, the challenge of praying for our
- 4:47enemies, you know, wishing good to those people who harm us
- 4:51intentionally. Not only is it good for our soul
- 4:55and good to free us of that hate, but it's, yeah, puts God
- 4:59back on that throne of judgement, not us.
- 5:02Absolutely. And of course we don't have to
- 5:05worry about karma. We live under a rule of grace.
- 5:08Hot diggity. Which is a way better system.
- 5:12Our Lord, thank you that you are a God of grace and that on that
- 5:16cross Jesus has taken care of karma once and for all and He
- 5:21has covered us in your love and your forgiveness, completely
- 5:26undeserved, but offered to us nonetheless.
- 5:30And Lord, thank you that you are the righteous 1 You are the
- 5:35perfect judge and that that you will make all things right in
- 5:41your time. And Lord, when sometimes it can
- 5:44look awfully tempting and, and, and we can be envious of those
- 5:47who may take shortcuts or or do things that may not be the right
- 5:51way but get good outcomes. Lord, you tell us to rest in you
- 5:56and your ways and not to want any part of that.
- 6:00So Lord, transform our hearts. May they not be shaped by the
- 6:04corrupted world that we live in, but by your perfect Kingdom.
- 6:08So we just offer ourselves again to you, Transform us, use us,
- 6:14shape us to be your instruments because we love you and we want
- 6:19our lives to be in service of you and your Kingdom.
- 6:22We pray all of this in your loving name, Jesus, Amen.
