- Courtney Koenig: Hello, welcome to the ROI of Peace podcast. I'm so excited you're here. I'm sending you love and hugs and reaching through whatever device you're listening to or watching and giving you all the hugs and loves. cannot wait for you to dive into this amazing conversation with Charisse. I was telling Charisse before we started recording that she's like, how are things going? And I'm like, well, I didn't sleep super well last night because I was talking to Scott and my son Beckham. And we were talking about what the next month is going to look like. And basically we have, ⁓ everybody's coming into town, all my family for my nephew's wedding. So we're going to house family and have a fun weekend. The next weekend we have, ⁓ is I think it is Ashlyn Lamar are moving to her, their apartment. So they're getting that all situated. The following weekend is Ashlyn's bridal shower. The following weekend is Ashlyn's wedding. The following weekend is Beckham is serving a mission for our church and so he has a party and getting him all off to go. And I was like, my gosh, I am doing, I was like, this is really the countdown, countdown to wedding, countdown to getting more kids out of the nest, you know, officially and all the things. also, did I tell you guys? I don't think I did, but I am altering Ashlyn's wedding dress because the dress is tulle, the skirt is tulle and All that we're gonna do is bring it to someone who's gonna be like, let me just cut off two inches. It's just a raw hem. You know, there's nothing, it's not sewed at all. And I've done alterations. I sewed, I took a sewing class back in the day. I have a beautiful sewing machine that my mom, it was my mom's. And so it really means a lot to me. So anyway, I was like, I'm gonna sharpen my, get my. sewing scissors sharpened and I'm gonna cut two inches off this tool skirt, you know? But anyway, there's all these things and I'm just like, ⁓ my gosh. And then of course business is scaling and booming and the app is going like crazy and like all this beautiful feedback of private clients and my mastermind and my brain could not shut off last night. There was no peace and you know, I don't know if you guys do this too, but like if I am trying to go to sleep and it's been a while. I get this pan, this sleep panic and I'm like, I can't go to sleep. I'm not going to survive tomorrow. I will never be able to go to sleep again. I will never ever be able to fall asleep again. I'll be one of the only humans on earth that can't fall asleep, you know? And I just go to this train wreck of a situation. And so this morning through this very fitful sleep last night that I swear wasn't even sleep, I decided I was like, I'm going to take a little walk outside and I'm going to feel peace. There was a slight rain and so It was just really, really lovely and just beautiful. And it just reminded me that peace can be the center of everything. I've hoped and prayed for these beautiful things that are coming up. I've hoped and prayed for a beautiful business that I have. And so everything is going to be fine. It's not going to be perfect, but it's going to be amazing. And that's the beauty of this journey that we're all on. It's not going to be perfect, but it's going to be amazing. And I can't wait for you to jump into this conversation with Sharice. Sharice Bateman has helped hundreds of business owners clean up their books, save thousands in taxes and plan for real growth. She is not just an accountant. Her company is called Blue Heart Accounting and it's a heart centered accounting firm. She just hired her fifth employee. And we just hit it off so much. should be best friends, even though we live on opposite sides of the country, but whatever, we're going to see each other in real life. And I can't wait for you to meet someone who is balancing all kinds of things, being a mom for loving her and expanding and scaling her business ⁓ and loving things that she gets to do, like pedal boarding and snowboarding, you know, all these things that she gets to do. as part of her personality and her beautiful human design because it is amazing. Let's spend more time together. You can get in the show notes, you can find your inner fears assessment and see what inner fears are bugging you. You can find out your human design and what are the gifts that you were born with. And we can spend more time together in my mastermind, in the app or in private coaching. All right, I can't wait to have this chat and we'll see you inside the episode. Take a breath. You've got this. Welcome to the Our Rewive Peace podcast. I'm so excited you're here. I am so happy to be here. Thank you for having me, Courtney. I am so glad. We connected through Entrepreneesa, which you guys is the best online female founder space. And we instantly hit it off. We were in a little mini group and we were just doing our own conversation and chatting away. I was like, we are best friends. Too bad we live across the country, you know? But. I'm so excited that you're here and I'm so excited that we get to dive into your story and your beautiful human design chart. I cannot wait. I've been waiting and waiting. I'm so excited. This so great. So everybody friends on, know what we do before we jump in is we do a game called Pick Your Piece. And this is from my app. And this is one of the pages on the app that talks about the interferers. Now each of these 12 spots is an interferer. We have 12 Ways that we can sabotage ourselves over and over and over again, right? So it's people pleasing, perfectionism, over busy, ⁓ all these things. And through the assessment on my website, you can see which interferer is really taking hold of your life. And so ⁓ now you're going to, I've assigned randomly a number between one and 12, and you're going to choose a number and we'll do the visualization story with that. So. What number would you like? Three. Okay. We have the, let me see, ⁓ the over giver. Okay. Tell me why you're laughing. Yeah, this tracks. It's actually really something funny that I was working on a few years ago. That was that I have to exceed expectations instead of meet expectations. And we were talking about that. in relationship to our client deliverables. And I just, if I met someone's expectations somehow, it was insufficient. And then it was, and then my, my guru, Dawn, had challenged me on why is that a failure if you actually meet someone's expectations? And so then that idea that I over give, you know, that I, that I have to shoot past in order to succeed is interesting. Yes. I agree. have a lot, there's a lot of overgiving tendencies and really the over giver is about proving worth in love and value to others and yourself. It's really this mismatched message that in order to feel valued, we have to over deliver, over give, you know, whether it's personally or professionally that we're somehow going to be less than. if we don't really give it all, you know? And giving it all, like, ⁓ is a lie, you know? We can give a lot and we do good work and that is enough. It's not so much the overgiving. Sharisa, it looks like you're sitting down so you can close down your eyes and all our friends on, go ahead and close down your eyes if you're in a seated position. Let's take a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling and In these few minutes, you're investing in peace and that investment starts working right now. There once was a woman who carried a candle wherever she went. She loved helping others find their way. And when she met someone lost in the darkness, she would light her candle to guide them forward. Soon, words spread through the villages. There was a woman whose light never failed. People came to her from miles away. And every night she lit her candle again and again, sharing her flame until every home glowed with warmth. But she never noticed that each spark she gave, her own wax thinned, her wick shortened. Her hands trembled from exhaustion. One night as she walked home after lighting the last house on the hill, she realized the path before her was darker than she had ever seen. The stars were hidden, the air was cold. She looked down, her own candle had burned to the end. All around her, windows shimmered with light. But she stood alone in the shadow. Her heart ached with truth she had avoided. She had given everything away, even the glow of her own soul. Tears filled her eyes as she whispered, I have nothing left to give. Then in that silence she felt a faint warmth deep within her chest. Not a flame she had to light, but one that had always lived there. She placed her hand over her heart and a slow, soft light rose from within, steady, golden. It wasn't borrowed, it wasn't given, it was hers. She understood that true service doesn't come from depletion, it comes from devotion. from a flame that is tended, loved, and renewed from within. From that day on, she still offered her light while also nurturing her own light. As her soul grew brighter, so did every flame that she touched. Where have you been giving so much that you've dimmed your own light to depletion and exhaustion? What does your soul need to feel nurtured and refueled? How can you serve others personally and professionally from a place of devotion instead of depletion? Take another deep breath and exhale. When you're ready, open your eyes. right, Shereece, what were you feeling during that? Well, that was less of a game and more of a therapy session. It actually felt really great. It felt like a re-centering. Yeah. It felt like a re-centering, like that. Like a recalibration. Yeah, I feel that too. What came to you as you were thinking about areas that you could, instead of depleting yourself, you could still give without diminishing your own ⁓ value? So tricky. Like I can feel the inner conflict as I even like suggest, you know, because there's like, there's something really difficult and painful for me with less, you know, and I've always struggled with simplify, you know, and there's this joke about, you know, there's this joke that somebody said about simplifying and doing this thing and they made a simple simplifying quilt, you know, like, in your effort to teach about simplifying, I'm going to make this really complicated quilt, you know, and I just, that is my world. Like I, if I can make something harder, I probably will. so there's something that I bulk at internally about when it's like, you don't have to give as much. And immediately I kind of, you know, ⁓ but then that will make me less than. And I had, again, my, my friend, her name is Dawn Patton and she was such a good mentor for me. Worked with her at, ⁓ my last firm. And she, one time it was, it was my mother-in-law, my aging parents. was actually my aging parents now. It's my aging mother-in-law right now that's in a care facility. And I have deep, deep desires to show up in the most purposeful way for her while running a business, while taking care my family, while doing all these things and, and while having, trying to go snowboarding and paddle boarding and enjoy my life. know, but I just want to show up for her in her, in her hours of need. And I was kind of workshopping this through with her one time and she said, Is there something that you have against a phone call and email? Like you, you seem to feel like the only way you can show up is in real life with five hours with whatever. And she's like, but could you maybe start with, ⁓ doing some smaller things more consistently so that I don't feel like, okay, well, I have to block out my entire day. Yes. Do the 30 minute commute, unpack everything, be there, be present, shut everything down. Could I just schedule a 15 minute call in the morning? Could I send an email at the end of the day recapping my day? And as I started coming up with other, and could I one day send flowers? Which is so funny, because though I don't value gifts as much, my mom did. And I value time, so I always felt like I had to show up with just, if I showed up with less time, it meant I love her less. And then like, And maybe that's not even what she wanted. She's like, gosh, can you get out of here? know, like, if you want. And then realizing that I could show up in other ways for her. Yes. It's kind of that feels like that all or nothing mentality. If we can't do that 120%, it's not good enough. But it is those small and simple things. On my walk this morning, I saw this woman in our neighborhood that I haven't seen in a while. And we used to see each other on a walk. So I was like, just for a couple of minutes, I was like, hey, how are you doing? You know? And it was just a very little blip, but I think it just really meant a lot to her. And, ⁓ and it's a small, simple things that we can do in order to love and support others. And it doesn't have to be, ⁓ huge every time, you know? And really, I think about this thing too, of a delegating, diminishing, or deleting. We can delegate something to other people. We can help support people by finding support for people, you know? We can delete that thing. Maybe we don't really need to do it, you know? or we can diminish it and it can look differently like something smaller, you know? Yeah. That feels good. I'm breathing it in. Like, that was funny. I didn't realize that I did that. I was kind of like, yes, yes, totally. I breathe in that concept. It is lovely. I use it with my clients all the time. Now take us back to this moment where everything crashed. Your husband was suddenly unwell. And you realized you had to figure out everything, your career, your family, all on your own. Take us back to what was happening. picked tax and accounting very specifically as my career choice because I felt like this could be something that just runs in the background. You know, it could be something that I do three months out of the year and then be completely available to my family and raise this family. got four lovely children and a wonderful husband and always wanted to to do the mom life. live remotely. We live on acres, you know, very foreign to most people, but we literally end up in nowhere, you know? And it was this, that was the map, you know, was just my husband will work the full time. I'll get to be mom most time. I'll supplement. And about the time that I'm sick of working, I'll be done working for nine months and then I'll come back. And that was, that was the, that was the gig. That was what I wanted. And suddenly my husband's career, imploded and he did along with it and he couldn't get out of bed and he couldn't face the world. And I had a son that was graduating from college and ready to go and leave on a church service mission. I had a daughter that was your senior year. had, and you know, we were still full-time parent mode and I had to decide, I had to create a career, you know, instead of just a part of, you know, a background job. I had to create a career, but I couldn't just swap it and be like, okay, well I'll create the career and then you be the stay at home dad because he literally was life or death. He was unwell. And so I couldn't count on him for anything. Like for carpools, I couldn't count on him for groceries, for cooking, for, you know, so then I had to just all of a sudden step into this full-time role of not just caring for my kids, but also caring for my husband and caring for my elderly parents who were in their eighties. and also needing care. And I was the closest touch point for my, I actually have five siblings, which is like the best ever. And they are the best siblings, but they live further away. And so while they were incredibly supportive and incredibly supportive to me, to my parents, but there just was certain ways and things that only I could show up for and ways that I felt like I could only show up for. Even though my sister's like, you don't have to do that. And I'm like, yes I do. And so I had to figure out in an alter ego, I was like, I will be the CFO of some multinational company. you know, but that was also, that was such an alter ego for me because it was a whole different life without a husband, without kids, without, you know, and so it was this other life that I actually didn't want, didn't choose that would be, you know, on those bad days, I'd be like, hmm, would that be great? But now I couldn't choose that life either. So now I'm somewhere in between where I'm going to have to create a career that, and build it out of nothing, create a career, but that I still have capacity to care for everybody. So can I get paid like a full-time person, get benefits like a full-time person, but also only work 30 hours a week and only if I need to, and also be able to step away in emergencies and also be able to, and also, and I was like, could it be, could it be? And the girl that I worked with, talked to her about it and I was like, you I'm ready to go sell my soul to corporate if I have to, because I have to, if I have to save my family, I will. But if there's another way, if we can, if we can build another way. And she's like, we can. And so we did. And then we built it for ourselves and for others. And our motto was peace cannot be around the corner. Peace has to be every day, you know, like. in our life, in our work, we can't just, you you get into that work. I just get this done. I just, you know, like, okay, next week, you know, I'm going to grind this week and I'll get ahead this week and then next week I'll relax and it never comes. ⁓ and I, you know, I love the peace mantra of like peace has to be now and the possibilities of like, yes, because you're, you had to take on all these roles. and not knowing how it would generally work out, how did you keep hope during that time of so much pressure in that area? Very, very intentionally. I'm very much a Christ-centered, God-centered woman, and so I went to my faith regularly. I went to my faith, and in fact, ⁓ you know, I go to a temple where I find a lot of peace, and my husband would drop me off on the way to his therapy appointment and I would go to my therapy in my holy place, you know, and I would just, and I would just sit there and be one, you know, and I would just be one. And I had a really profound experience there where I got this, this answer to my prayer that said, know, Sharice Sharice from, is biblical, but Sharice Sharice, you are troubled about many things, but one thing is needful. And then I was like, what, what is the one thing, you all the many things, what's the one thing? And it was just like, it's one thing always. You only have to ever do one thing. So, and it was this message to me to be present when I'm with my mom, be there. And don't carry guilt with me about, but I'm supposed to be with my kids right now. And when I'm with my kids, don't be guilty. Like the worst part about taking a break and going snowboarding with my family is taking a whip and beating myself while I'm like, they'll just, what's the point then? You know, and so it was this message of like, be where you need to be. And then my journey kind of continued because as I was rebuilding it and it was working, you know, then, um, my, the business I was working for, she's like, it's time to sell my, it's time to sell this business. Do you want to buy it? And I was like, do I want to buy this business or do I want to build my own? This is such a huge decision. The timing of that, that I thought this is impossible timing. I had to. make a proposal to buy this business or figure that out while in my mom's room while she's on hospice dying that week. No way. And I'm like, and you know, it's just, I'm like, this just does not feel like a healthy time to make this decision. And also it does not feel like a healthy time to start a business while I'm planning a funeral. know, like I just, I, I, I could not, I just couldn't believe that this timing could not be worse. And then. Moving forward and we just experienced miracle after miracle where my husband actually I'm really happy to report that he's well and he's happy and he has a new career and he loves his life. And I have launched a business and it is thriving and successful. And I, I'm, I'm hiring my fifth employee next week. And, you know, and, and, and I have all of these beautiful, beautiful life experiences that I just could not have imagined were even possible. You know, I really kind of felt in the moment of despair, I'm going to figure out how to gut it out. You know, I would just endure this, you know, and I would try to endure it well. um, and that another really pivotal moment for me, and this won't be the truth for everybody. This was just my experience was, um, I kind of was like, I'm going to work on this, you know, like when you get married, regardless of whoever gets married, it's really typical to think that, you know, through sickness, through health, you know, through. Yes. You know, it's like very typical and no matter where you come from, it's kind of like you have to be married in the good times and the bad. And I was like, so I was really committed to that principle of like, will, I will stay married even through this sickness. But I kind of felt a little gypped, you know, kind of like, but then I feel like I do this hard thing and I'm, I win the booby prize, you know, like, yes. And I get. You're gonna stay with this forever? And the answer that I received, the clarity that I got about that was that my husband was not finished. He wasn't done with his journey. He isn't who he's going to be anymore than I'm who I'm going to be. We have more growth to have happen. And the message to myself, the message that I received was if I promise that when he's done becoming the man he's supposed to be, that I will find that desirable and attractive and... everything that I want it to be. And if I don't weather this well, I won't be worthy of such a great man. Yes. And I feel like now I'm kind of living that where I feel so grateful to him and for him sticking it out, even though he also felt like I'm done, you know, like I'm done. I want out this can't, I don't see any light. I don't see any hope. And yet, you know, flash forward a really short amount of time and There is hope. There is the other side. There is change. And that is like, it is really hard to be a caregiver in so many areas. know, caregiving for your husband in a position where you didn't see that happening. Being the breadwinner, you know, where you thought, well, I'm a mom. That's my primary role. You know, I'm the primary leader, primary parent, you know, and flipping that script in your head and doing all those types of things to support yourself through that. is a lot of change and it's a lot of listening to God and it's a lot of listening and being resilient to the journey that you're on and having faith even when things don't work out, you know? And having faith when things do work out, you know? All those things that really build us into who we are and how we can continue to grow because I always think like, We, the cool thing about having a new day each day is I get to grow, I get to learn, I get to choose to look at life through a positive lens. And, and I get to be excited for all the great things that are coming towards me. And I'm not going to miss what's meant for me. I will never miss what's meant for me. And I just keep believing and that is a huge, huge thing. And I love. On your human design chart, I was telling you before we started recording that we are so alike. It's crazy on our human design chart for everybody. All our friends listening. Let's just make sure what we know human design is. Human design is like a personality test. It's like Enneagram and Strength Finders. And it's based on the time date and place that we're born. Can you say those words again? Oh yeah. Enneagram and the Strength Finders. They're like personality tests. They're like other, um, that corporations. and founders use to understand teams and things like that. but human design goes into like 10 times more depth. It's kind of like this puzzle system, again, based on our time, date and place of birth, which I feel like is very divine and very much harmonic with where God wanted us, where he wanted us, you know? And so it creates a map and a puzzle. that paints a picture of how do we make decisions best, how do we operate best, what things do we need to do to support ourselves, what are the gifts that we're born with? And so it puzzle pieces everything for us. And so yours, your blueprint starts off with your human design type. And this is a projector. Now I'm a projector too, so I just, I'm dying inside. Projectors, gifts are, you're a great guide. You're a fantastic strategist. have the gift of this zoomed out perspective. So you're always seeing this kind of bigger picture of how things are going. So you're a big systems person, you know, how are we going to get from A to Z? But you're not like, we're going to do 17,000 steps. You're like, what's the simplest way to get there so we can jump, skip and be there. Now you also, your energy comes in ebbs and flows like waves of the ocean up. and down, one minute you're on and one minute you're off. You love people, but they also exhaust you, you know? And so noticing and supporting yourself through those ebbs and flows of energy. The mantra for a projector is I'm here to guide, not grind. So think about leadership in a style of like, I'm delegating these certain things. I'm delegating this vision. You know, I have a vision. I'm telling it to other people. I'm the leader of this. I'm not here to do all the busy work behind it, you know? but we're gonna be a weld oil machine because I can see all the parts that will work together. Now, I would love to hear, what have you noticed this ebbs and flows of energy throughout your business and how do you support yourself as you're juggling all these things? Okay, so super funny that like how you, you know, somebody articulates something that's been part of just your everything. And I get comments a lot about I am very, very high energy. I am a freight train. am a beacon of positivity. know, like I'm so high energy and people are like, how do you do that? Like how every time I see you. And I was like, well, that's because every time you see me, there's high energy. And I crash out hard. Like I will, you know, and you won't see it because I'll be like, if we're at together for a weekend. I can keep that high energy the entire weekend, sometimes for the entire week. But if when I come home, hibernate. Hibernate for like a full day, you know, and it's not a common, it's not regular that I will sleep in until 1pm, you know, but it's, it's common. Like it would not be unusual for me to be like, yes, she's, we haven't heard, we don't know what happened to her. Yes. Well, and it is so important to not feel guilt over those times of rest. Like one of the things I used to do before I knew my human design is I would judge myself against other people. Other human design types have energy that goes go go like Energizer Bunny all the time. And ⁓ I would judge myself against them and be like, well, I can never be part of that five. I always needed a little nap every day, even before I was diagnosed with MS. I always needed like a 15 minute nap and I would judge myself about why can't you just keep on crushing it all throughout the day, you know? I would get around lots of people and be like so excited and so in it and then come home and be like, I am exhausted. I need to not be around people, you know? And that's what human design has, especially as a projector, has really helped me to navigate is I need to support myself in the way that it looks best for me. and not necessarily other people or not what Pinterest says or Instagram says, you know, it doesn't make a good female founder to be the certain no, no, no, no way, you know, I can get things done really quickly because I see the strategy open up to me and it's really clear, you know? So one of the other parts on your human design, ⁓ wait, the strategy for this, ⁓ I wanna go back to this, make sure strategies for projectors is to recognize that you have all these gifts within your soul and acknowledge that. Because a lot of times projectors will put themselves in a, let's let someone else lead the way. You know what? I can, like in a female founder space, I'll work for someone, you know what? Instead of being the lead, instead of having, being the spotlight, you know? And recognize that you have so many gifts that of being able to read the room, understand people's feelings without them having to speak it. You know, all these layers of gifts. so consider yourself a leader and step into those spaces even more. Okay. I love your, your face. Tell me what you're thinking. Well, I literally just this morning and this week, multiple times have said, I just really love playing second fiddle. Like I just love that role. Love I now I can lead. can lead, but man, to help support someone else do their thing is so much more fun. And the reason it's been super relevant was I recently got an assignment to be this director of something and I was like, sure, I'll do it. And then, and then I learned, I found out that I'm actually the assistant director. And while some people would be like, I was like, even better, like, ⁓ my gosh, even better. And especially if I can find someone who I, that is super competent, you know, then man, I will ride someone's coattails. You know, like. Yes. Yes. And it is, it's thinking that like, you get to step into that role and your leadership is going to look different than someone else's leadership. And that's completely okay. Like what I love about our leadership style is that we listen to the room. We understand what people are saying. Sometimes people. We're very, very good listeners because we have this kind of empathetic souls within us and that's on the design of our chart as well. But also one of the things on your chart that will help you to be this leader is you have a gift of communication. Yeah, on human design, there's centers, kind of like chakras, and they line up with different organs in the body. And so you have a defined throat center. So this is the gift of communication. It's always on. You always have this ability to express and to have a reliable voice to land your messages. I have this gift as well, because we are so alike. And when I was getting into human design, I was like, I have never thought of myself as a good speaker or someone that could really do this. But I thought, well, what if I just play around with it and see what it would be like? And that's how this podcast was born. I was like, well, this would be kind of fun. Let's try this, you know? And it's not about like speaking perfectly or communicating perfectly, because no one can really do that. But it is about that feeling that you get across to others that they can really feel and resonate with. ⁓ And you can see that deeply. So your mantra for this is my voice is the bridge between vision and reality. So what you're feeling in here, you're able to speak to others. So whether it's personally or professionally, whether you're having a tough conversation with a, ⁓ you can understand their fears and you can see those and you can speak to that and you'll be able to land it so that they feel confident and good about things going forward. Okay. My voice is the bridge between vision and reality. So what's internal becomes external. Yeah. And just play with it and just trust yourself that it's there. That's the other thing that kind of flips the script on us using these gifts is like, I was born with this gift. So if I was born with this gift, let me trust it. Let me use it more. You know what? And those are what makes gifts grow even more, you know? So. Okay. It's noted. I love that! desk. have all these hearts with my Montress and it's now making the wall. my goodness. And it's a blue sticky for everybody who's not watching. It's a blue heart sticky. I love that. With blue heart accounting. Oh my gosh. That's so brilliant. How has your voice been a tool for you personally or professionally or maybe it's been hard? Yep. No, that's actually been something that other people have noted about me, you know, commented about me that my ability to communicate. One of my friends had said, you know, you, you have the ability to take my what's up here and put it into what's out here, you know? And she's just like, and I can't ever do that. And she goes, I, I feel like you're able to do that not only for yourself, but also for me. Like I can extrapolate what, what she has as far as a vision and put it into meaningful words that then give it. form and structure and that kind of thing. So I definitely see that. And then the systems, you know, that speaks to being able to really find that strategy in that system of going here's the vision, here's the goal, and then here's the path to get there. And I feel that. That definitely resonates. that is so beautiful. And the strategy for you to kind of use this gift is don't dilute your truth to make it easier for people to hear, you know? You can, you'll say it in a way that people will land with them, even when it's a tough conversation. So just trust yourself because you have their best interests at heart and you'll be able to have those conversations around those things and it will land in the way that it needs to. Yeah, that's actually, that's needful. That was a needful thing because that is something that I need to, you know, sometimes I want it to land softer. want it to be received a certain way. And so then You know, there's a really good study on counterfeit emotions out there where it kind of talks about this difference between being kind and being nice. And being nice is like trying to keep the peace, but it's artificial peace. Yes. And kind is, and it's not the difference between nice and mean, you know, it's not about being mean, but being kind. And if I'm kind, then I have the courage to say the truth. Yes. And it's in a kind way. you know, but still, and I care about them and have caring about someone enough to say the harder thing versus I just want to be nice and not, you know, not make waves. I just, I'm really passionate about that. Trying so hard to be kinder. Yes. And that kindness is courage. I love that. One other part on your human design chart is they're called gates and gates and channels are these layers of gifts and characteristics that you have. Now, this one is gate 48 and this is called the beacon of integrity. So you have this gift of truth, integrity, ⁓ inspiring others with your courage and unwavering strength. Like, I know, and oftentimes we think, ⁓ well, that's just what everybody does. Isn't that just what we're supposed to do? You know? but it truly is you always have a choice, right? You know those people that are like half glass empty, people versus half glass full? This is kind of the same thing. You're bringing in this value of honest, real, and rooted in integrity, this compass of within your soul. And so the mantra for this is I'm a beacon of integrity. How perfect is that for accounting because you need your... your account to be full of integrity because there are some shady practices out there, you know? Yeah. So one of my mantras is I want to build something heartfelt, personal, and real in a world that is increasingly artificial. And there is that. And there is actually, it's really interesting. My background is lightly blurred. And I almost never do that. I don't do the phony backgrounds. And not that I think there's anything wrong with that. But there's something that I'm like, I don't want artificial, like I want the truth. even with, especially with accountants, I meet with clients all day on Zoom and they get the real me and the real me has like my refrigerator in the background. it has, you know what I mean? Like, and I let that be on purpose because I want my clients and the experience and. to end myself to be like, have nothing to hide. It's not a show. It's not about me. It's about those who are blessed by what I do. so I just, I'm a big believer in that authenticity and integrity and just high level. Yeah. That tracks. ⁓ my gosh. This is so crazy. Like literally, this is so wild. And it is, it really is about that using that gift because people are magnetized towards you. say all of our gifts when we utilize them and we talk about them. And oftentimes we go throughout our lives just thinking that's just kind of what I want. But instead we can flip the script and say, is who I am. And that's why this is resonating so much. This is who I am. This is the true connection and seeing yourself for that way. So I love that in business, we always talk about metrics and especially like, yeah, with sales and performance and accounting and finance and all these measurable markers. But the ROI of peace has its own indicators of clarity, resilience and joy and alignment, truth and integrity. Which area of your life are you asking for more peace right now, personally and professionally? And what would it look like in your daily life to bring that in more? Oh my gosh. just, okay, just so you know, we did not get these questions in advance. So this is like, it's as much of a surprise to me as it is to the listeners. But one of the things that I'm working on right now and that I'm really passionate and fascinated by is the idea of capacity. Because now as I have my fifth employee coming on and I have to figure out what, I have to define what is capacity and in the accounting world, it is billable hours. Yes. It is billable hours. It is. You have this many returns, you have this many things, you know, and, in the world of business, there's this many sales, there's this many minutes in the day. Here's my segmented time. And, and if you live in a world where you have to charge by time, you get more and more of like everything is in, you know, even six, some, I'm accounting and industries charge in six minute increments. So you are tracking your daily time in the, six minute increments, some in 15 minute increments. And, and it is the Like, and, your capacity is when you have done 40 hours and 80 % of it is billable and 20 % of it is, know, and you have these things. And I'm like, but there's, it's missing, it's missing something. And so as I have designed my business, there's, there's two things that we're doing that I have not seen anyone else do. And the one of them is that I want to create dream space for my accountants. So that, because there's a magic that happens when you're not doing your work. If you have to do. I have to input this tax return. have to review this. have to categorize this. have to, you you do these things. It, it's a different part of your brain that you're engaging. And if you're doing that all day and then you clock out and then you go, whatever, there's no dream space. There's no way to access that other side of the brain that allows you to think creatively. And so when I'm looking at capacity for my accounting managers, there's, it's, it's where we're coming up with a whole different metric. So yes, it's how many clients can they, how many? How much time does the work of this client do? But also different clients carry a different emotional weight. Some clients are very, you know, they don't have an emotional drag or even some clients at a certain time in their business. They don't, they're very taxing to, to me. Other times, other clients or other times in their business, I am losing sleep over this client. You know, I am like, and there's a weight. about that, that eats into the capacity. And then there's a part of showing up for each other, because our accountants work in collaboration pods. And so that they collaborate and learn from each other and creating that space where I can show up really well for my collaboration pod and give, rather than, okay, well, I'm here. What help do you need? I got to hurry and get back to my thing. And so we're trying to create that space and that this whole different level of what is, what is capacity? What is, what can you carry and how many, and sometimes too, it's like, you know, you'll relate to this. I'm sure any mother out there will. There's a plate spinning effect where if you have one job and it takes 40 hours, that has a whole different weight than 40 jobs that take one hour. Cause you have to like, and there's like, I can't drop it. can't, there's something draw. If I only have the one thing to focus on, it's easier for that thing to not draw. And so there's that balance in our capacity too of just how, how many things are you juggling? So that, that just speaks to all of that for me. That's just a revolutionary thing and way to claim. that space. is amazing. I've never heard of accountants doing their business in that way because it's usually pretty cut and dry. It's like, you know, and especially during tax season, it's like all it goes crazy and sideways, you know, but that is such a beautiful way to take your vision and to look at something and innovate it. And, and then again, that's part of your gifts of seeing this like you know, A to Z and being like, wait a second, we can do this better by doing it this way. It doesn't have to be the same old. You're very good at innovating and bringing that space to the world. ⁓ my gosh, Charisse, I wish we could hug in person. I wish this was a live podcast. I'm like, this has been so fun. I know everybody wants to get into your world and I know that you have such a great heart and you're doing and scaling and growing. So how do people get into your world? The, think the very best place I, I have the beautiful web designer, Launch Designs Labs is who it is, Casey Hall. Shout out to her. She built, we built my brand and my website with such intention so that you could go there, get a vibe check. There's pricing on there. There's services on there. There's a way to book with me on there. There's free resources on there. And so I would say of all the places to go, go to the website and hang out and figure out, you know, if, you know, try it on. Try on whether, you know, I have like a tagline that says, you don't love your accountant, we should talk. I would like to win out against dentists. I realize that not everybody's gonna be like, I would love to see my accountant this weekend, you know? And I get that I'm not an amusement park, but if you would rather see your dentist than see your accountant, then get a new accountant because there's a better way. It can be fun. It can be pleasurable. It can be very empowering. really, one of my clients just recently said, you're literally changing lives. You've changed mine.
