- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 0:00Speaker 2: We've got Jack and we've got Mitch. It's all good.
- 0:02Speaker 3: It's all good.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Excellent. So you guys have got your, did you say
- 0:07Speaker 2: your first show?
- 0:08Speaker 1: No, it was first for the year.
- 0:10Speaker 2: First for the year. Okay, I was going to say. No, no, no,
- 0:14Speaker 2: not first show. First for the year. And so where's
- 0:16Speaker 2: that kicking off tonight?
- 0:18Speaker 1: We're at Oxford Arts Factory with Sonobia. So she's doing
- 0:22Speaker 1: her debut show, first show ever.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's kind of like a... I guess a launch.
- 0:30Speaker 3: She's yeah. It's, it's all ready.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. Yeah.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So stupid.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:42Speaker 1: So, so that one with, with Sanobia at Oxford Arts Factory.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So we may support.
- 0:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:49Speaker 1: So it's her big debut show and she's got a
- 0:52Speaker 1: lot of production behind it. So we're kind of trying
- 0:55Speaker 1: to keep that up. same energy on our end so
- 0:58Speaker 1: yeah it's gonna be good.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Oh excellent excellent and so you guys have uh coming
- 1:03Speaker 5: up for on the bill for um big sound which
- 1:06Speaker 5: is uh why we're chatting today so tell us a
- 1:09Speaker 5: bit about that if you play before is it your
- 1:11Speaker 5: first time what's.
- 1:13Speaker 6: Um so we're a little bit unusual we all kind
- 1:15Speaker 6: of come from different musical backgrounds so mitch and i
- 1:18Speaker 6: actually both worked a lot of sessions um so i've
- 1:21Speaker 6: played big sound like three or four times now with
- 1:24Speaker 6: different putting last year so I'm not sure if Mitch has,
- 1:27Speaker 6: but it's like, so we've all kind.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Of done things in that world. Yeah.
- 1:31Speaker 6: So, yeah, this is like the first time, at least
- 1:34Speaker 6: as this lineup, that we've kind of started pursuing our
- 1:37Speaker 6: own thing. And it's only been going, like, we put
- 1:40Speaker 6: out our first record in, like, August last year.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It was the first song.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:44Speaker 3: So it's kind of still, we're still within the first
- 1:46Speaker 3: year at this stage. So it's really cool to get there.
- 1:49Speaker 2: You guys have had some pretty big tractions.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess it feels like it's kind of hard
- 1:55Speaker 6: to step back and look at it kind of objectively.
- 1:57Speaker 6: There's a big picture, but yeah, we've, I guess maybe
- 2:01Speaker 6: off the back of some of the work we've done previously,
- 2:03Speaker 6: we kind of have managed to kind of not cut
- 2:07Speaker 6: the line, but like we.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Were a little bit more.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Known for what you do and yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 6: And we want to work with it and, and that
- 2:15Speaker 6: invariably has led to some other things. Like, so obviously
- 2:18Speaker 6: we're doing the Shinobu show tonight, Shinobu, show tonight and
- 2:23Speaker 6: then tomorrow we're with Between the Buried and Me in
- 2:25Speaker 6: Sydney as well.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yeah, nice.
- 2:27Speaker 6: And then before Big Sound we've still got another, our
- 2:30Speaker 6: first national tour with Pliny.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Oh, how exciting.
- 2:34Speaker 6: So that will be slightly bigger rooms and then we'll
- 2:39Speaker 6: have played again as this band before so it's a
- 2:43Speaker 6: nice thing to step up into and lead straight into
- 2:45Speaker 6: Big Sound with that. So we should be playing well
- 2:47Speaker 6: by then.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah, be seasoned into it. That's exciting. And it is,
- 2:52Speaker 2: I guess, one of those kind of things in the industry.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Sometimes it is who you know or who you associate
- 2:57Speaker 5: with rather than being an unknown, which, I mean, like anything,
- 3:02Speaker 5: you get a reputation for what you do.
- 3:04Speaker 2: So what do you guys play instruments? Drums, guitar, vocals?
- 3:08Speaker 2: What are we?
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I play drums.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm a guitarist and, yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, drums and guitars.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Play baseball yeah no it is it's um when you
- 3:23Speaker 7: um come together and you do stuff and you've got
- 3:25Speaker 7: you know that background it's always uh good to you
- 3:28Speaker 7: know when you can get that quick attraction but obviously.
- 3:30Speaker 5: You've got like the listeners that you know love you
- 3:32Speaker 5: love the sound which um you know helps as well.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Yeah it was actually interesting we had a few things
- 3:37Speaker 6: early on where it was like oh we thought you
- 3:39Speaker 6: know we might be able to kind of parlay again
- 3:41Speaker 6: things we've done in the past into but for the
- 3:43Speaker 6: most part to be honest like people don't really care
- 3:46Speaker 6: um it's more like if they like the songs and
- 3:48Speaker 6: then it's kind of like that just kind of obviously
- 3:50Speaker 6: is the main thing and then we can kind of
- 3:53Speaker 6: you know like obviously we're putting a show to you
- 3:55Speaker 6: and everything like mitch has done a heap of work
- 3:57Speaker 6: doing that for us um but it's again in our
- 4:00Speaker 6: wheelhouse like we're kind of used to playing shows all
- 4:02Speaker 6: the time like it's not like yeah um obviously the
- 4:04Speaker 6: band's new but we're kind of used to doing that
- 4:06Speaker 6: so i guess in that sense it's been nice to
- 4:09Speaker 6: kind of have a relatively smooth run up to yeah
- 4:13Speaker 6: But we're definitely stepping it up to another.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Level for us. So, yeah, we're just excited and stoked
- 4:19Speaker 3: that we've got the offer.
- 4:21Speaker 2: That's awesome. So hopefully we'll see some more things to come.
- 4:24Speaker 5: So you're well seasoned in your art, so that's always good.
- 4:29Speaker 5: So you mentioned that you guys are doing a tour
- 4:30Speaker 5: before Big Sound. Whereabouts are you heading off to with that?
- 4:37Speaker 2: Um, so it's, uh.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I was waiting for Jackie.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so it'll be with plenty. So the support, uh,
- 4:44Speaker 1: where it's us, so no, we are actually jumping on
- 4:46Speaker 1: that one as well. And then, uh, uh, international band
- 4:49Speaker 1: Delta sleep. Okay. And then, then clinic.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So we're pretty much, we started Brisbane, then Sydney and
- 4:55Speaker 1: then Melbourne and then Adelaide and Perth.
- 4:57Speaker 3: And then, yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So pretty much back to back, smack it out. Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 3: It's pretty good.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah. You guys are going to be busy. No sleep, eh?
- 5:05Speaker 1: Well, there's one day off in Perth, which is nice.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And I mean, it's mainly flying, but what are you
- 5:10Speaker 1: going to do?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 5: Perth's a different place. I mean, even the road, the
- 5:14Speaker 5: colour of the road's different over there.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I don't know. It just makes me uncomfortable.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Yeah. It's a nice remote city.
- 5:20Speaker 5: It is so far away. I think that just like
- 5:23Speaker 5: does my head in.
- 5:23Speaker 2: It's yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 5: I wasn't in a hurry to go back. It wasn't
- 5:28Speaker 5: anything specific. I just was so out of my comfort zone.
- 5:30Speaker 2: But yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Yeah, sure. It is a long flight.
- 5:32Speaker 6: It's a weirdly, you feel like you should be much
- 5:35Speaker 6: further away than just one side of another country.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I know.
- 5:37Speaker 2: It's like, you sure don't need a passport? Like, what's
- 5:39Speaker 2: going on? Yeah, yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 3: No customs.
- 5:42Speaker 5: And so you guys are flying, which is, I couldn't
- 5:44Speaker 5: imagine it having to do with that on a tour bus.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Like, it's a long haul. But hey, it's been done before.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Gotta do the flying. Gotta do the flying. It's not
- 5:53Speaker 3: too bad.
- 5:53Speaker 1: We're... Yeah, I probably, like, because Jack and I have
- 5:57Speaker 1: done this a bit, we kind of know the best
- 5:59Speaker 1: way to kind of figure it out, getting the most
- 6:02Speaker 1: out of the minimal.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Gear we have to take.
- 6:03Speaker 1: We're lucky, though, we get to... kind of piggyback on
- 6:07Speaker 1: some of the truck work that Pliny's got.
- 6:10Speaker 3: He's going to do some truck.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So we can chuck our stuff in the rig and
- 6:15Speaker 1: just fly, which is nice. Usually it would be in
- 6:18Speaker 1: a van and we'd just be doing East Coast stuff.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we like East Coast.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 5: I'm sure you've done the Gold Coast run before, so
- 6:26Speaker 5: there's plenty of nice venues around here.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Hopefully we might see you then. Whereabouts in Brisbane are
- 6:31Speaker 2: you playing? Brisbane. Oh, nice. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 3: The rooms are actually really cool.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I think it's Sydney's Liberty Hall.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Oh, nice. Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Brisbane is Princess Theatre. Melbourne is... Actually, I don't know
- 6:49Speaker 1: what Melbourne is.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Northcote.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Northcote. Oh, that's right.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah, of course. And then Magnet House and then something
- 6:57Speaker 1: else in Adelaide. Yeah. I think I only know a
- 7:00Speaker 1: couple of.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Benny's in Adelaide, actually.
- 7:03Speaker 2: There you go. You've got a manager that tells you
- 7:05Speaker 2: where you need to be at what time. Yeah. Master Tour.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Master Tour will do it. Yeah. The Master of Tours.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It has an album name right there, if you ever
- 7:14Speaker 2: heard it. Yeah, it is. Oh, you might not like that. No. Nice.
- 7:20Speaker 5: So you've got your first album coming up, which is...
- 7:23Speaker 5: Is it out yet, or it's about to be released
- 7:25Speaker 5: for a night out?
- 7:26Speaker 1: So this will be the second, technically, EP.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Oh, okay, second. So.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah, so we did an EP last year, and then
- 7:34Speaker 1: the second EP.
- 7:35Speaker 5: So you hit the road with an EP, did you,
- 7:37Speaker 5: pretty much? You went, bam, here we are.
- 7:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much for this one. Yeah, it'll be nice.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I mean, we got a nice amount of traction in
- 7:48Speaker 1: the first one, and then we just released two singles,
- 7:51Speaker 1: and they're doing excellent. And then it actually.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Drops on the 24th.
- 7:58Speaker 1: 24th yeah 24th um and then yeah it'll be all
- 8:01Speaker 1: that and it's kind of smack dead in between all
- 8:04Speaker 1: of the shows and everything like that which is good
- 8:07Speaker 1: but it's it means doing promo and stuff on the
- 8:09Speaker 1: on the road.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Or in between everything is a mild nightmare.
- 8:13Speaker 5: But it is expected like social media is obviously you
- 8:17Speaker 5: know where the where it's at with promo and stuff
- 8:20Speaker 5: and then it's it just is it's timely and it
- 8:23Speaker 5: can be exhausting and having, you know, unless you're paying
- 8:25Speaker 5: someone to do it, even then you're still going to
- 8:27Speaker 5: be present to be part of it.
- 8:28Speaker 1: So, I mean, we're lucky Sam, like, uh, so the
- 8:32Speaker 1: lead singer and guitarist, he, um, he's quite a bit
- 8:36Speaker 1: of a monster at kind of social stuff and marketing
- 8:38Speaker 1: and all these kinds of bits and pieces. So he's,
- 8:40Speaker 1: he's really on kind of directing us what to do
- 8:42Speaker 1: and content. And he's a bit of a, he can film.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And edit and it saves us a lot of, yeah
- 8:49Speaker 2: he's a he's a.
- 8:49Speaker 1: He's on on that stuff a lot it was a
- 8:52Speaker 1: huge learning curve for us because i mean jack and
- 8:54Speaker 1: i primarily a session guys were initially.
- 8:57Speaker 5: And um we were you guys are the backbone of
- 9:00Speaker 5: music everywhere yeah.
- 9:02Speaker 1: That's it we roll in early lobby calls play things
- 9:05Speaker 1: back up the leads you know we don't have to
- 9:06Speaker 1: worry about this stuff we get paid you know it's
- 9:08Speaker 1: fine so um to to actually be in the other
- 9:11Speaker 1: end is a bit of a bit of an eye-opening experience.
- 9:15Speaker 5: Especially with a hands-on, you know, which most bands are
- 9:17Speaker 5: these days, you know, because of it's just a cost
- 9:19Speaker 5: factor usually. But I think also too, like a creative
- 9:22Speaker 5: control when you've got that hands-on and you can, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 5: which direction you're going to take. But you do, you
- 9:29Speaker 5: get to learn so much, you know, about, you know,
- 9:31Speaker 5: editing and like video stuff and photography and it's kind
- 9:34Speaker 5: of cool as well as, you know, doing their own thing,
- 9:37Speaker 5: like playing and singing and whatnot that, you know, Yeah,
- 9:41Speaker 5: so you guys have got a video out as well,
- 9:42Speaker 5: I imagine, if you've got a young video person on board.
- 9:46Speaker 1: At the moment, in terms of the travelling crew for Pliny,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I think there's a videographer and stuff, but I'm not
- 9:56Speaker 1: too sure if they're gonna do too much with us
- 9:58Speaker 1: last time we toured with plenty in a different outfit.
- 10:01Speaker 8: Okay they're always interesting but um we'll see we'll see
- 10:04Speaker 8: how it goes yeah but we'll get uh get the
- 10:07Speaker 8: most out of what we can do um like i
- 10:09Speaker 8: said like sammy is a bit of a monster of
- 10:11Speaker 8: that stuff so no doubt he'll have the camera out.
- 10:14Speaker 1: And we'll cut something together at yeah he's.
- 10:19Speaker 5: A crazy man yeah that's exciting so um you guys
- 10:25Speaker 5: are gonna be busy pretty much until the end.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Of the year is that.
- 10:27Speaker 1: The yeah yeah pretty much like we have some time
- 10:34Speaker 1: no one else wants to bring us on the road but.
- 10:37Speaker 5: You get some spare time you just say jack everyone
- 10:40Speaker 5: might be not.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Happy with you.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You know, I know that's how it is.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You've got to fill up the calendar, otherwise it's full.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely.
- 10:50Speaker 5: You've got to have a full roster, as I say.
- 10:52Speaker 5: A roster full of gigs and your lyrics are unstoppable.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it.
- 10:56Speaker 5: How do you like the music that you guys are
- 10:57Speaker 5: making now as it's in this format?
- 11:02Speaker 1: I think, like, it's definitely heavy, but it's not, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 1: we're not metalcore, essentially. It's kind of, I guess, deftonesy
- 11:09Speaker 1: adjacent stuff.
- 11:10Speaker 2: A bit of rock heavy.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely, yeah. Ten kind of leans into
- 11:16Speaker 1: the alternative metal kind of world with a shoegaze. But
- 11:19Speaker 1: there's quite a, you know, hooky kind of poppy element
- 11:23Speaker 1: to a lot of the choruses.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I could have a good hook.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So it's that and there's like, you know, we do
- 11:30Speaker 1: not everything screaming either, which is nice. But yeah, it's
- 11:33Speaker 1: kind of hard to define.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I guess. Yeah, it's always interesting to.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Because there's so many different genres that people come up
- 11:42Speaker 5: with and it's, you know, often a lot of the
- 11:44Speaker 5: time that, you know, artists themselves are like, okay. And so,
- 11:48Speaker 5: you know, it's always good to, you know, how you
- 11:52Speaker 5: define yourselves. I guess, you know, you're influenced from a
- 11:53Speaker 5: lot of different backgrounds as well, which makes a big difference.
- 11:56Speaker 5: And when you come together collaboratively, it's always really interesting
- 12:01Speaker 5: when you essentially create a new genre that someone wants
- 12:04Speaker 5: to label, which why do we need labels anyway?
- 12:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 6: I guess people don't, probably don't. approach it from a
- 12:11Speaker 6: genre perspective it's.
- 12:12Speaker 2: More just like I don't think any of us does really.
- 12:14Speaker 6: Yeah it's more like it has to come because we
- 12:16Speaker 6: all have kind of eclectic backgrounds and like different things
- 12:19Speaker 6: and some of us have way into the heavier stuff
- 12:21Speaker 6: more than others and um you know it's a it's
- 12:24Speaker 6: it kind of makes it an interesting uh mix and
- 12:27Speaker 6: it has to kind of go through the five filters
- 12:30Speaker 6: of us to um get it across.
- 12:32Speaker 5: The yeah no 100% I love when like you've got
- 12:35Speaker 5: so much influence and it mixes and it's that's how
- 12:37Speaker 5: you the goodness is created isn't it and those unique
- 12:40Speaker 5: you know new sounds and and vibes that bands have
- 12:43Speaker 5: it's um it's where it all comes from not setting
- 12:45Speaker 5: out anything any that there's been an.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Artist yet I wouldn't be surprised that said I.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Want to sound like this and this is what we're
- 12:50Speaker 5: going to do I mean obviously to a degree like
- 12:52Speaker 5: you say you know what you like to play and
- 12:54Speaker 5: sound and listen like um but when it comes out
- 12:58Speaker 5: in the wash so to speak it's um it's always
- 13:00Speaker 5: interesting and it's It's the good stuff.
- 13:03Speaker 2: It's the good vibe. Yeah.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I find that the interesting part of all that is
- 13:07Speaker 1: like how we interpret it versus like someone else will
- 13:09Speaker 1: come back and be like, oh yeah, it sounds like this.
- 13:11Speaker 2: And you're like, you never heard that before.
- 13:14Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't have put it in that basket. You know
- 13:17Speaker 1: what I mean? Which is, is kind of nice. I mean, like, yeah, again, we're,
- 13:20Speaker 1: we're not really writing for a, to to be it
- 13:24Speaker 1: sound like anything else we're just kind of going i
- 13:27Speaker 1: like that that's good this is a cool thing why
- 13:29Speaker 1: don't we do this i mean the way we write
- 13:30Speaker 1: is pretty unique in the sense of like because we're
- 13:33Speaker 1: spread out a bit um it's a lot of dropbox
- 13:36Speaker 1: hey man this is this idea what do you think
- 13:38Speaker 1: we love dropbox you know yeah it just it's it
- 13:40Speaker 1: gets it gets slammed and then it's like oh yeah
- 13:43Speaker 1: i've done this version of this and you end up
- 13:44Speaker 1: with like six different version of it versions of it
- 13:46Speaker 1: and then someone goes all right why don't we just
- 13:48Speaker 1: trim the fat and it ends up like that And
- 13:51Speaker 1: then eventually we all get together and kind of polish
- 13:53Speaker 1: it out. And then because we're all producers in a sense, it's...
- 13:58Speaker 1: Jackie's uh job to make sense of the nonsense drum
- 14:01Speaker 1: parts that we've all.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Created so the you're the end product the end result.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah yeah usually.
- 14:08Speaker 2: We call them turd polishes yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Well actually yeah funnily enough it's it's the it's one
- 14:14Speaker 1: of the best parts of it all you know I
- 14:16Speaker 1: mean like Jackie will lean in and make it so
- 14:18Speaker 1: much more human and like at these bits and pieces
- 14:21Speaker 1: we're all like oh you know bunch of guitars in
- 14:23Speaker 1: a room with a mouse trying to write drums. And
- 14:25Speaker 1: he's like, when it feels and breathes like more naturally
- 14:28Speaker 1: like this.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Oh, I love it.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Like when a producer like, and you know, I've had
- 14:34Speaker 5: my own stuff like produced by two different people and
- 14:37Speaker 5: what they can do and how they interpret it. And
- 14:40Speaker 5: you know, the space they make and the layers, it's
- 14:42Speaker 5: always unique and individual. And it's really kind of cool
- 14:45Speaker 5: when you get that and you can go, and like
- 14:48Speaker 5: you say, they'll pick stuff out that you didn't even
- 14:50Speaker 5: hear or like, something that, you know, mightn't have been
- 14:54Speaker 5: so prominent with yourself.
- 14:56Speaker 2: And it's, it literally is a work of art on
- 14:58Speaker 2: its own producing.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Or miss things that were really important.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 2: That too. Yeah. We're going to take it off in
- 15:08Speaker 2: five minutes. We're going to take it off the nine
- 15:09Speaker 2: and the 12. Just because. And so what about your lyrics?
- 15:16Speaker 2: You know, where is that?
- 15:17Speaker 5: Is that something that you guys have first and then
- 15:20Speaker 5: do you create music around them or do they come
- 15:22Speaker 5: after you've got.
- 15:23Speaker 2: You know, a riff or something put down?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Lyrically, it's more, it's Sam pretty much is primarily the
- 15:29Speaker 1: kind of, you know, the content in that sense. He's...
- 15:33Speaker 1: He's a pretty, I don't know, he's a bit of
- 15:36Speaker 1: a deep thinker, a bit of a stoic guy.
- 15:38Speaker 4: So I feel like, yeah, he's got his own kind
- 15:40Speaker 4: of stories that come out within, you know, the themes
- 15:45Speaker 4: of a lot of like personal and like, you know, abstract.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I trust his artistic vision, especially with, you know, being
- 15:53Speaker 4: the vocalist and it's being his voice and that kind
- 15:56Speaker 4: of like projection. I think that's really important to kind
- 15:58Speaker 4: of let him do his thing.
- 16:00Speaker 2: It's good if you've got someone who does that.
- 16:01Speaker 5: So it's like kind of a deeper sort of, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 5: element of the lyrics um feel to it more than
- 16:06Speaker 5: you know punk kind of thing.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Yeah some of the I was gonna say yeah some
- 16:12Speaker 6: of the content's quite heavy but I don't think there's
- 16:13Speaker 6: been an example where the lyric like the the concept
- 16:16Speaker 6: and the story might have kind of inspired the writing
- 16:19Speaker 6: uh musically but I don't think the lyrics have ever
- 16:22Speaker 6: come first I might be wrong.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah yeah no I don't I don't believe so no
- 16:26Speaker 1: I think they're always like you know, it's, it's a riff,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know, again, it's a bunch of guitar nerds just
- 16:31Speaker 1: playing and then be like, Oh, what about that?
- 16:33Speaker 5: It's kind of, you know, it's always interesting to ask,
- 16:35Speaker 5: you know, it's cause I, you know, you get people
- 16:37Speaker 5: who will be like, no, they'll create music around lyrics
- 16:40Speaker 5: or like, yourselves you know it comes secondary um and
- 16:43Speaker 5: a bit of both i'm really i.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I respect a lot of people that can do it
- 16:46Speaker 1: so yeah i'm.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Don't sell yourself short mitch you never know no no.
- 16:51Speaker 4: I i don't i've spent so many years playing guitar
- 16:53Speaker 4: i'm cool with.
- 16:54Speaker 5: That yeah i'm a writer so that's where my it
- 16:57Speaker 5: just comes naturally for me and i'm just like it's
- 16:59Speaker 5: it's second second nature but uh i really appreciate um
- 17:03Speaker 5: like people who can freestyle rap because that shit's hard
- 17:05Speaker 5: to do. Oh, yeah. And they're just like bang, bang, bang.
- 17:08Speaker 5: And I'm like, wow, that's like hats off.
- 17:11Speaker 6: Mitch actually prepared one for you if you want to.
- 17:14Speaker 5: Are we going to have a battle rap freestyle?
- 17:18Speaker 2: That would be cool.
- 17:19Speaker 1: That would be diabolical times.
- 17:24Speaker 2: That would go down in heavy history. That's funny. We
- 17:28Speaker 2: might even go viral with that one, I reckon. Good
- 17:32Speaker 2: way to promote yourselves. That's funny.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Like you say, like your lyrics is also true where
- 17:40Speaker 5: you make, you know, significant connection with your audience too.
- 17:43Speaker 5: I think, you know, as well as if it sounds good,
- 17:46Speaker 5: as well as, and like you say, once it's out there,
- 17:48Speaker 5: everyone interprets it something different and, You know, once you
- 17:51Speaker 5: put it out there, you kind of cease to own
- 17:53Speaker 5: that side.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Of it, I guess, as an artist.
- 17:55Speaker 5: And when you come back, you know, people's take on it,
- 17:58Speaker 5: it's always, it's forever giving life to your works, which
- 18:02Speaker 5: is always nice, I think. Yeah.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 6: It would be cool to see how people receive the
- 18:08Speaker 6: new music tonight because a bunch of it obviously is still,
- 18:11Speaker 6: there's a couple of songs that are still unreleased.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Oh, excellent.
- 18:14Speaker 5: So, yeah, you guys get to do the new one,
- 18:15Speaker 5: you know, your previous release and your new stuff as well,
- 18:17Speaker 5: which is.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:18Speaker 3: So, yeah, cool to see how people respond in that
- 18:21Speaker 3: sort of room tonight. So, yeah.
- 18:23Speaker 2: And if it sounds good, you're going to love it.
- 18:26Speaker 2: You know, it doesn't matter what genre it is.
- 18:27Speaker 5: If it sounds good and makes you want to groove
- 18:28Speaker 5: and gives you that vibe, then.
- 18:30Speaker 2: It's all good and fast. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Excellent.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Well, thank you so much for coming and having a
- 18:35Speaker 5: chat with us today, Heavy. And in the lead up
- 18:38Speaker 5: to The Big Sound, which you guys have got some
- 18:40Speaker 5: stuff in between, which is awesome. And good luck with
- 18:44Speaker 5: your show tonight. First of the year, you guys are

- 19:01Speaker 5: Everybody's got different rituals, don't they?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Drive.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Surf, meditate, have a beer or three. Whatever you do. Awesome.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Give me ideas now. All right, guys, take it easy.
