- 2:02Hey beautiful Treasured Mama, Coach Kori here. It is an exciting time on the
- 2:07podcast as we are unpacking love and the most beautiful love story of all,
- 2:14which is found in the Bible.
- 2:17Our last episode, we looked into Genesis chapters 1 and 2 and really uncovered
- 2:24the love story and and how it starts in creation.
- 2:28Today, we're going to further that discussion and unpack Genesis chapter 3,
- 2:34where we talk about the fall.
- 2:37Another way of thinking about that is the rejection of God's perfect love.
- 2:42And although that is sad, it is also a necessary part of the story.
- 2:48And the latter part of this episode, we will dive into the book of Hosea,
- 2:52specifically chapter 11 verses 1 through 4 where we are talking about the Father's
- 2:59love and how He is faithful even when we are not.
- 3:04I'm going to be reading some excerpts from a handbook called The Bible Themes Handbook.
- 3:10It's a phenomenal resource and it helps us look at different themes that are
- 3:15in the Bible, love being one of those themes.
- 3:19So let's dive into Genesis chapter chapter three, talking about the fall.
- 3:24For context, if you are new to the Bible story, I first want to welcome you
- 3:30in and give you a little bit of context.
- 3:34The fall is referred to when sin enters the equation.
- 3:39Some people say this is when things begin to get a little bit dicey.
- 3:44So the main characters are Adam and Eve, which are the two people.
- 3:49Then you have, of course, God.
- 3:51And then you have the serpent, the devil. You have the enemy to God.
- 3:56It's very interesting because Adam and Eve lived in harmony with God.
- 4:01He gave them everything that they needed in the Garden of Eden.
- 4:04And then there was Satan and he came in and his desire was to deceive Adam and Eve.
- 4:12He didn't like that they were drawing near to God who is perfect love.
- 4:17And so his angle was to tempt them with the thought that God was withholding
- 4:24from them, that God was keeping something from them.
- 4:28Even with all God had given them, Adam and Eve still fell for the devil's evil temptation.
- 4:36His desire was to tempt them and say, if you eat from the specific tree that
- 4:43God forbid you from eating from, then you will have what God is withholding from you.
- 4:50The reason he is withholding it from you is because he doesn't want you to be like him.
- 4:56He doesn't want you to have all that he has.
- 4:59And that is an absolute lie. The enemy manipulates what is already established.
- 5:07He doesn't create anything new. He's not creative. He's not an original creator.
- 5:13He is perverse in nature.
- 5:16He simply perverts what is already established.
- 5:19When you think of somebody twisting your words, this is exactly what the enemy was doing.
- 5:25Unfortunately, what happened is Adam and Eve gave in to the temptation.
- 5:30They partnered with the deceptive lie of the serpent and ultimately they disobeyed
- 5:36God and they ate from the tree.
- 5:39Think about that. How often do we do that?
- 5:44We partner with someone who is deceptive and we separate ourselves from someone
- 5:50who is trustworthy trustworthy because our sinful nature desires to have something.
- 5:57We realize through the pursuit of the unholy thing, it comes at the expense of the greatest thing.
- 6:06And we can look at this story and we can both acknowledge the tragedy that is
- 6:11them making this decision to reject God's perfect perfect love,
- 6:16but it is part of the story.
- 6:19And as a result of that, their eyes were opened to sin.
- 6:23And this is where fear enters the equation because they were now afraid.
- 6:29They disregarded God, they broke their relation with Him, and God cast them out of His presence.
- 6:37They were no longer allowed to live in total and complete harmony with God in
- 6:43the beautiful garden that He had provided for them.
- 6:46Even then though, God never stopped loving them.
- 6:50This is the Father's perfect love, which we're going to talk about in a minute.
- 6:55He had a plan to restore the harmony that He allowed them to experience in the beginning.
- 7:03He had a plan to restore their loving relationship with Him.
- 7:08And He did this by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to take our place on the cross
- 7:13so we could be forever restored with Him.
- 7:16That is such a powerful thing. There is no other experience like it. Think about this.
- 7:24A father gives his only begotten Son so that you and I can be restored in our relationship with Him.
- 7:32Praise God. The story doesn't stop here with the fall and the rejection of his perfect love,
- 7:38but we get to continue the story and specifically in Hosea chapter 11 verses
- 7:451 through 4 where we unpack the father's love and we are reminded that God is
- 7:52faithful even when we are not.
- 7:55Adam and Eve had children and they continued in rebellion to the extent of being
- 8:01only only evil all the time.
- 8:04We see this in Genesis chapter 6 verse 5.
- 8:07So God brought another form of exile by flooding the entire earth.
- 8:13Through God's relationship with his people, there are tons of highs and lows
- 8:18and ebbs and flows and twists and turns through all of the generations.
- 8:24And yet we find that it was love that kept God close because God's love is so pure.
- 8:32He doesn't love us less because of our actions, because he continues to see
- 8:37us as his children and the way that we were designed and created.
- 8:44Hosea chapter 11 shows us God's persevering love, and I would write that down.
- 8:50To think of perseverance is to continue with something even in challenging circumstances.
- 8:58God is faithful. His love is persevering in nature.
- 9:03He is in pursuit of His children. It is a love that is so strong that it continues
- 9:09despite sin and consequence.
- 9:13And there is interesting imagery in Hosea 11, the imagery of a father's love for his son, Israel.
- 9:21So there's the Old Testament of the Bible, and then the New Testament.
- 9:26You can think of this before Jesus and after Jesus, you know, is on the earth.
- 9:33And in the Old Testament, God made a promise to Abraham Abraham,
- 9:36that he would grow his family.
- 9:38He would make it into a great nation.
- 9:41He would make it into a great nation. Think about that. By which he would bless every family on earth.
- 9:48And this family later becomes Israel and was God's chosen nation.
- 9:54One to be his treasured possession.
- 9:57You can reference Deuteronomy chapter 7 verses 6 if you want to unpack that.
- 10:02As a treasured mama, it is is really fun to unpack being his treasured possession.
- 10:09So we move forward as we're talking about this persevering, faithful love of
- 10:15the Father, and we see that the Israelites eventually find themselves in oppressive slavery in Egypt.
- 10:23God brought on Moses to lead a charge that would set them free,
- 10:28that would lead them to the promised land.
- 10:31Once rescued, God provided everything they could ever need.
- 10:35And isn't that interesting? Because when we go back to Genesis 3,
- 10:38we're talking about the fall.
- 10:41One of the first things that I shared was Adam and Eve lived in harmony with
- 10:45God. They had everything that they need.
- 10:48Here we are talking about once God rescued the people, he provided everything they could need.
- 10:55Moses led them to Mount Sinai, and that is where God made a covenant with them.
- 11:00You can think of a covenant as a binding agreement that they would be God's
- 11:06people and God would be their God.
- 11:08His grace protected them, sustained them as they went on this incredible journey
- 11:14through the wilderness, and His love brought them through the Red Sea and all
- 11:19the way into the promised land of Canaan.
- 11:22Even with all that He did, Israel still began to go astray and step off the
- 11:30path that God had established for them.
- 11:32They began to show up in rebellious ways. they worshipped other gods,
- 11:37and yet God was still faithful in His love, even though Israel was not.
- 11:44I am both deeply saddened that people would reject God's love,
- 11:49and yet as sinners, we do it every single day.
- 11:53And in addition, I am so incredibly grateful for the Father's love,
- 11:59that He doesn't stop loving us because of a sinful choice that we make.
- 12:04No, He continues to show up for us.
- 12:07Again, it is a depth that we can't truly comprehend.
- 12:11God is faithful regardless of circumstance, even when we're running from Him.
- 12:17And that would be my message for you today, day is no matter what you have done
- 12:23previously in your life, no matter how far, how fast,
- 12:29how frequent you have run in the opposite direction of God's love being extended
- 12:35to you, it doesn't cut off the extension of his love. It's still there.
- 12:41Imagine God extending his hand with the the most exquisite and beautiful gift
- 12:46in the palm of his hand, his love.
- 12:48He's not even asking you to reach for it.
- 12:51He's asking you to receive it, and he will position it right there for you to receive.
- 12:59In our next episode, we're going to talk about a rebellious son,
- 13:03but for now, I want you to focus on the father's love.
- 13:07In summary, in this episode and the one prior to that, we have walked through
- 13:13Genesis chapters one through three, talking about the most beautiful love story
- 13:18of all and how we are God's most prized possession.
- 13:21And even when sin enters the equation, his faith is still enduring.
- 13:28His love is still faithful. He has faith in us and He loves us faithfully.
- 13:34Heavenly Father, we thank You so much for Your faithful love.
- 13:39We thank You so much, God, for Your perfect love.
- 13:44Even when we have rejected You, we know that You are right there as our righteous
- 13:49God, loving us, just waiting for us to accept what it is You have to offer us, God. God.
- 13:55It is my prayer today that the incredible human being that is your son or daughter
- 14:00that is listening right now, God, would receive you maybe for the first time ever,
- 14:05that they would receive you maybe after a season of running away,
- 14:10or that they would receive you in a greater way, with a greater depth,
- 14:15so they can impact the people, the places, the spaces you have called them to,
- 14:21to reach God, to expand your kingdom.
- 14:24In your mighty name, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
- 14:34Music.
