- 0:03Speaker 1: in Variety, the Show Business Bible has an article it's
- 0:08Speaker 1: the one hundred greatest TV performances of all time, and
- 0:13Speaker 1: it's it is amazing to go through.
- 0:15Speaker 2: This list greatest TV performances. Yeah, actors, you know, acting performance,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Oh okay. And so they had to set up a parameter.
- 0:23Speaker 2: They said, we started with certain parameters in order to
- 0:26Speaker 2: defind the pool of shows we were working with. We
- 0:28Speaker 2: limited ourselves to scripted series that began on or after
- 0:33Speaker 2: January first, the year two thousand. Because when you said performances,
- 0:37Speaker 2: I was like, I mean like perform like the Beatles
- 0:40Speaker 2: on the Ed Sullivan.
- 0:41Speaker 1: You know, these are performance in shows. And I thought
- 0:45Speaker 1: might be maybe we could just do the bottom ten
- 0:48Speaker 1: and the top ten, although they said, don't think of
- 0:52Speaker 1: this as really quantitative, you know, oh okay, they're all
- 0:55Speaker 1: just great performances.
- 0:57Speaker 3: You should go watch all of these.
- 0:58Speaker 1: If you can, of most many of them you will
- 1:00Speaker 1: have seen. So at number ten, number one hundred is

- 1:18Speaker 1: and she's English and you wouldn't even know it. Let's
- 1:23Speaker 1: see number ninety eight Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Ted Lasso Beardless or without.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm a hair person. Here's one that you may not
- 1:36Speaker 1: think about. But remember how good this guy is. He's
- 1:40Speaker 1: been in our studio too. Number ninety seven Justin Kirk
- 1:43Speaker 1: is Andy Botlin on Weeds. Oh yeah, he was really
- 1:47Speaker 1: good on that show.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I never saw.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Ninety six Katya Herbers as doctor Christen Bouchard on Evil.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I've watched that somewhat. She's she's very good. Five Kelly

- 2:05Speaker 1: Ninety four Matt Barry as Laslow Cravensworth and What We

- 2:21Speaker 1: it's funny, and he's somebody named Elliott Goss and hideously
- 2:25Speaker 1: dressed attention starved Elliott. Yes, very funny. Ninety two. Kate
- 2:29Speaker 1: Blanchette as Phillis Shaffley and Missus America ninety one Hemish
- 2:36Speaker 1: Patel as even the Jaudrey in Station eleven. Yep, excellent.

- 2:45Speaker 1: In How I Met Your Mother? Yeah, and then what
- 2:47Speaker 1: is she from the Penguin?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, she just won the Golden Globe.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah for the Penguin. So here's the top at the top,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and with number one, sir, okay, let me go to
- 3:00Speaker 1: let's see there's okay. Number ten Sandra Oh on Grey's Anatomy. Yeah,
- 3:06Speaker 1: it's always good. Ria Seahorn as Jim Wexler and Better
- 3:10Speaker 1: Call Saul.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Everything about Better Call Saul is underappreciated.
- 3:14Speaker 1: She just got better and better and better as that
- 3:16Speaker 1: series went on. Number eight Andre Brower on Brooklyn nine.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Oh, on Brooklyn n nine doing the comedy role, not
- 3:25Speaker 2: even on homicide.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I mean he's good in both. Yeah, Carrie Coon on Leftovers. Yes,
- 3:31Speaker 1: she is excellent, and she's in the White Lotuses. Michael
- 3:35Speaker 1: Kenneth Williams as Omar on The Wire.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Had to be on that list.

- 3:48Speaker 3: No, no, I have watched that.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I don't want I think I saw one or two.
- 3:52Speaker 2: She plays a version of herself. Yeah, you know, an
- 3:56Speaker 2: actress trying to get he's getting older. Yeah, he was
- 3:59Speaker 2: trying to get back in the game.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And number three Elizabeth Moss not in not in It's
- 4:05Speaker 1: in mad Men, not not in the hand. Well, she
- 4:08Speaker 1: was good at madmnt. Oh, excellent.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Madman is a show about her. If you think it
- 4:13Speaker 3: really is, it starts with her, it ends with.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Well, now I got to go back and watch it.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Number two Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy on Succession of course,
- 4:22Speaker 1: is really good. And number one you'll be very pleased
- 4:25Speaker 1: with this. It's a show that I didn't really watch much,
- 4:29Speaker 1: although when I did see it, I went, why aren't
- 4:31Speaker 1: I watching this all the time? It's Julia Louis Dreyfus
- 4:35Speaker 1: on Veep Amen Number one A man. I yes, absolutely,
- 4:41Speaker 1: who else could it be? It says over seven seasons,
- 4:44Speaker 1: Julia Louis Dreyfus delivered the signature comedy performance of the
- 4:47Speaker 1: century so far, and did so with such focused intensity
- 4:51Speaker 1: that it was easy to forget that Veep was a
- 4:53Speaker 1: comedy at all. The evolution of The plot allowed Louis
- 4:56Speaker 1: Dreyfus to rove as the sitting vice president to an
- 4:59Speaker 1: unse president who hardly cared for her input.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Yes, I've never seen her in anything that I didn't love,
- 5:05Speaker 3: and that includes that really weird movie from last year,
- 5:11Speaker 3: The Cancer One. Yeah, Tuesday or Wednesday, it's like a.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Day or a week. Yeah, I keep eating wat.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Curious drama. She's great in, that, says her her podcast.
- 5:24Speaker 3: I don't know if you've listened to her podcast, Wiser
- 5:26Speaker 3: than Me is a great podcast.
- 5:29Speaker 2: We went to a restaurant that she frequents, just hoping
- 5:32Speaker 2: that we would see.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Her, he says. Through it all, Louis dreyfus deafness with
- 5:37Speaker 1: a profane insult, her ability to convey the physicality of
- 5:41Speaker 1: a tense person, a temptee to seem relax, yes, and
- 5:46Speaker 1: her sheer willingness to go anywhere to convey Selena's abject
- 5:49Speaker 1: need for power made a sometimes uneven show into an
- 5:53Speaker 1: all timer.
- 5:54Speaker 2: See if you if you watch her on Seinfeld, if
- 5:57Speaker 2: you watch her on Beep, and then watch her in
- 5:58Speaker 2: this new Marvel stuff that she's doing. It's essentially the
- 6:01Speaker 2: same character that has evolved because Elaine was she had
- 6:05Speaker 2: her meanstreak a little bit.
- 6:07Speaker 1: They're horrible, didn't show up.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They're horrible people, viep she had a mean streak, horrible,
- 6:13Speaker 2: horrible person. And this character she's playing in the Marvel
- 6:16Speaker 2: movies now she's the leader of the bad guy Avengers
- 6:19Speaker 2: and just does not even bother hiding her mean streak.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Just this describes her as in deep perfectly. She was
- 6:26Speaker 1: the creature that our political system created. Yes, mutable to
- 6:30Speaker 1: the point of meaninglessness, willing and able to say just
- 6:33Speaker 1: about anything that prolonged her moment in the Spotlight exactly.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I love Yes, you're right, Bill, you teased it before
- 6:41Speaker 3: we diet. You're like, you're gonna love number. She is
- 6:44Speaker 3: a treasure.
- 6:45Speaker 1: This is a great list to just go through and go,
- 6:48Speaker 1: oh yeah, jeez, I forgot about there's a number twenty two.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Alec Baldwin is Jack Donahan thirty Rock. Also, he was
- 6:57Speaker 1: a brilliant, great role for him. Catherine o'haro's Moira Rose, Yes,
- 7:02Speaker 1: all of them on that Geene Smart and Hack, Yes,
- 7:05Speaker 1: Ian McShane of course, El Swearingen in Deadwood.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I need to go back, and I think I want
- 7:11Speaker 3: all these shows. It's been long enough that I think
- 7:13Speaker 3: we can.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Oh, this is a good one. Yeah, it has been
- 7:16Speaker 1: a while. Brian Tyree, Henry has Alfred Paperboy Miles on Atlanta.
- 7:21Speaker 1: That's a really performance, good performance.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Somebody texted in and said enough said was the movie
- 7:27Speaker 3: she did with James Gandolfini. I haven't seen that. I
- 7:30Speaker 3: guess I need to look for that. That was his
- 7:32Speaker 3: last movie. Remember and see.
- 7:34Speaker 2: There's so many great Selena Myers quotes and I can't
- 7:39Speaker 2: play any of them for you because Selena Myers is
- 7:41Speaker 2: so foul foulmouth. Here's one of my favorites. Why do
- 7:45Speaker 2: you put on your running shoes and get to the
- 7:47Speaker 2: effing point.
- 7:50Speaker 1: About Murray Bartlett as armand on the White Lotus the
- 7:54Speaker 1: hotel manager hurry, yeah, yes, oh man, Uh, Susie s
- 8:00Speaker 1: mand Curby, your enthusiasm.
- 8:03Speaker 3: This is green for a long weekend. You can maybe
- 8:07Speaker 3: go back and have some time to leave it.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So one of the great performances, though, is uh what's
- 8:14Speaker 1: her name on? Uh? What's her name on? You know?
- 8:22Speaker 1: Jason Bateman? Yeah, Julia Garner, Julia Garner, don't quote.
- 8:28Speaker 3: She has the best quote ever. And you can't say
- 8:30Speaker 3: you can't say it.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And I have never ever, she has never been as
- 8:34Speaker 1: good in other things. She's okay, but she's just brilliant.
- 8:39Speaker 2: There's another Selena Myers quote. Being vice president is like
- 8:42Speaker 2: being declaued, defanged, neutered, ball gagged and sealed in a
- 8:46Speaker 2: in an abandoned coal mine under two miles of human s.
- 8:53Speaker 3: The writing on that's great.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Rachel Bloom and crazy ex girlfriend. She was
- 8:58Speaker 1: very good. An I just it's these perform It's just
- 9:03Speaker 1: so fun to go through these and think about it's
- 9:06Speaker 1: amazing that, you know, the TV has just become such
- 9:11Speaker 1: a a high high bar. Another Selena Myers quote. I
- 9:17Speaker 1: gotta be careful with this one.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Uh okay, So they want me to go to a
- 9:23Speaker 2: pig roast to meet a bunch of men who probably
- 9:25Speaker 2: took turns to have sex with the pig before they
- 9:28Speaker 2: roasted it, to which Amie replied, I wouldn't presume they
- 9:32Speaker 2: took turns.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I forgot how good that show is. Oh god, that's one.
- 9:40Speaker 3: If I'm on like a plane, Yeah, I don't have
- 9:43Speaker 3: time to watch a whole movie, just watch a few.
- 9:45Speaker 1: V Anthony starrs Homelander, Carrie He.
- 9:49Speaker 2: He is the best, like comic book villain, and if
- 9:54Speaker 2: you see him in other things as well, he's always different. Yeah,
- 9:57Speaker 2: amazing As Homelander, he is absolutely the best comic book
- 10:01Speaker 2: villain and he is the villain, you jerks,
