- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Tristan, what's up, man?
- 0:49SPEAKER_04: It's been a minute.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: Yes, sir.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: This is live from the new recording studio from Hill Country, Texas, my friend.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: How are you doing?
- 0:58SPEAKER_04: I'm good, man.
- 0:59SPEAKER_04: It has been a while.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: Um, summer is upon us.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: Therefore, sports are spare.
- 1:08SPEAKER_04: Sports.
- 1:10SPEAKER_04: Sparse.
- 1:10SPEAKER_04: That was the word I was thinking.
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you got it.
- 1:13SPEAKER_04: Uh sports this time of year is tough.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: It's really tough for all of us.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: Now the NBA finals are officially over.
- 1:20SPEAKER_04: We're getting into like off season stuff.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be this is our catch-up episode because despite it being this time of year, there is actually a lot of Texas Tech stuff that has come out that is worth talking about.
- 1:31SPEAKER_04: So this is what we're gonna use this episode for.
- 1:33SPEAKER_04: Catch up.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Steven, I I always say I thrive in the offseason.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Like this is this is my place, dude.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: Like, nothing to talk about.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: No, there's there's there's plenty to ramble about and make stuff up.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: Stir the pot a bit.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 1:48SPEAKER_04: We don't want to, we're not reporters, okay?
- 1:50SPEAKER_04: We we talk and we bullshit and we just go back and forth on stupid conversations.
- 1:55SPEAKER_04: That's what this is all about.
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: Look at you using your degree.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: Look at us, look at us.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: We're real journos over here.
- 2:05SPEAKER_04: No, we gotta start here with baseball because it's been a while now since the season has ended.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: I think we talked about baseball a combined two minutes on this podcast this year.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, based on the that's an official stat, by the way.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, based on the team's performance and just us not being baseball guys, we didn't get to we didn't get to talk about Tim Tadlock and his uh his coaching staff and his team this much this year, but uh overall very disappointing year.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: Didn't even make the postseason.
- 2:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, this is the first time since 2015 that that has happened for Texas Tech and Tim Tadlock.
- 2:42SPEAKER_04: And I know at the at the heart of it, whenever we got kicked out of the Big 12 tournament, everybody was on Twitter talking about, oh my god, do we need to blow it up?
- 2:53SPEAKER_04: What's going on with Texas Tech?
- 2:55SPEAKER_04: What are your kind of thoughts on Texas Tech Baseball?
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: Just is this just a down year or is this something more?
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: Well, Steven, I did a quick glance over the last few years of Texas Tech Baseball, and it appears that a trend is forming when it comes to the way our record looks.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Um, our overall records they look fine.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh, they're not stellar, but it doesn't start looking bad until you start looking at the conference record, where it's been absolutely on a down downhill trend since the uh since 22.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, because last year we went 12 and 12, 500 in the Big 12 conference, but we did make the postseason still and did okay.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: Um, but this year was truly a a another another dip whenever we went 12 and 18 in the Big 12.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it's that's obviously not something you're looking for whenever you're wanting, whenever you have a down year in your in your team's overall um uh prestige level, I should say, uh, because you know Tim Tadlock has absolutely built up a winner, but it's been frustrating to watch us go on a down slope.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: And it's I am by no means going to say we need to look at the captain and say maybe he's not the guy because I I I'm not there.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Uh he is the guy.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: You will never find a better guy for this job um during during his tenure.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it's there's something concerning going on, and it's I'm sure lots of people have strong opinions as to what it is.
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, you look back at it, you made the college world series in three out of the four years from 2016 to 2019.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: You that was your pure dominance as a program.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: You were winning conference championships, you were dominating in the regionals, super regionals, hosting regionals and super regionals, going to Omaha.
- 4:44SPEAKER_04: I mean, you that was and and you kind of set the standard from there.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and then COVID happened, and it just seems like everything's been downhill from there.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: There is a few, you know, you could compare this to when NIL started getting really big.
- 5:00SPEAKER_04: Is baseball struggling with NIL, getting guys here and keeping them here?
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: Because we have had a lot of high-profile pitchers and players enter their name in the portal even after a successful season where we make the postseason here at Texas Tech.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: Is that an issue to where uh bigger programs like Arkansas or LSU or AM now?
- 5:21SPEAKER_04: You see, the Aggies are about to win a freaking national championship, Texas, you know, all that kind of stuff.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: Are they being are they taking our players or why are we not able to retain some of these pieces that should still be here at Texas Tech?
- 5:35SPEAKER_04: Um, and I think you've also seen a continuing trend of bad pitching.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: Your bullpen has not been where it needs to be the last several years.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: You don't have the relievers and the help you need in that department to be a successful program throughout the entire season.
- 5:51SPEAKER_04: It also seems like you have like one or two good starters, and then that third guy you can't seem to get.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: You know, it's always kind of you're switching, you're going through a rotation, you're trying out different guys.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: You don't seem to get that Friday or Sunday starter that you need at Texas Tech the last several years.
- 6:07SPEAKER_04: And so, um, yeah, I mean, two straight regional bounces in 2022 and 2023, and then you're not even making the postseason.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's definitely, you know, uh you're on the downswing here.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: So um I I'm not ready to say we need to get rid of Tim Tadlock.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: I I don't know enough, quite frankly, to start talking about the assistant coaches, yeah, and if we need to get rid of the pitching coach or if we need to get rid of this or that.
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: No, a lot of people are calling for his head, but um, you know, there needs to be some sort of change, whether it's NIL related or whether it's, you know, just getting the right guys here to Texas Tag.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Do you it kind of makes you wonder, like, you know, with this extremely successful decade we had with Tadlock, uh, like you were just saying during the teens um or the 2010s, whatever we want to call them, do you think that he perhaps garnered so much goodwill from the fan base and and the athletic department that people kind of start stop paying attention to what's going on?
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: Do you think, like, do you think maybe the leash is getting too long?
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm not judging Tim Tadlock at all, but do you think things are just maybe a little too stagnant and comfortable over there right now?
- 7:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, I think stuff changes so quickly in college sports.
- 7:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, you go, we've I mean, we've seen it with basketball now several times, where you think you have your guy, and then all of a sudden, you know, stuff changes real quick.
- 7:29SPEAKER_04: You know, we thought Mark Adams was the dude after year one, and he was not.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: He's not the dude.
- 7:34SPEAKER_04: He was not the turns out he wasn't the dude.
- 7:36SPEAKER_04: And I'm not saying Tim Tadlock is Mark Adams here.
- 7:39SPEAKER_04: Tim Tadlock has obviously shown the ability.
- 7:42SPEAKER_04: He's a Texas Tech guy, he's stayed, he's gotten lucrative offers to go to other schools, and he's remained at Texas Tech.
- 7:49SPEAKER_04: Like what I think the real struggle here is is NIL.
- 7:53SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't know if Texas Tech is necessarily giving what we need to stay competitive in collegiate baseball right now, to get players here.
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: We all know the business, it's it's a money game now, and you need to it's it hasn't changed even with baseball.
- 8:10SPEAKER_04: Um, obviously, it's a little more uh insane when you start talking about football numbers and basketball numbers, but NIL is still prevalent in NCAA baseball.
- 8:20SPEAKER_04: And if we're not either paying up to keep some of these talented guys or paying to get some of these talented guys, like I just don't know if Tim Tadlock is necessarily doing enough in that department, you know.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think I think that's an easy uh thing to go to because that's obviously the biggest conversation when it comes to how wire things or how are things changing in the college athletics, and obviously goes to that, you know, and it's just strange to see us, you know, trend downward with this with the with the because there's also been a lot of investment in baseball, you know, with the new training facility and locker room, all that being built up for the for the for the ballpark.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: And it's just it's it makes you scratch your head is like what what's the missing link?
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: And and the reason why I brought up do you think things are getting too comfortable over there is like is either for there's a lack of shuffling going on, is is and do you think that's because maybe Kirby kind of gave Tadlock the keys to the kingdom where it's just like I we trust you to just handle everything and get us winning rather than hey, is there something going on within the staff that needs to be adjusted in order for us to get back on track?
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: You know, or is is he protecting his his guys a little too much?
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: I don't mean this in any hostile way at all.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: I'm just I'm just saying, like, is that perhaps uh the uh attitude in there, you think, is was my point.
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: No, it's definitely something to bring up.
- 9:32SPEAKER_04: I mean, if anything, Tim Tadlock has shown fierce loyalty to his guys, he's had him on staff forever.
- 9:39SPEAKER_04: You know, when it comes to making those sort of decisions, we haven't seen Tim Tadlock make those decisions because one, he hasn't had to.
- 9:45SPEAKER_04: We've had a very successful team, and he hasn't really had to come to that point.
- 9:49SPEAKER_04: But now that we're at that point, and you're looking at a guy like Matt Gardner or you're looking at uh uh, I think it's Joe Bob, uh, whatever, J Bob, sorry.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: Um just guys that have been with Tim Tadlock since the beginning at you know, at Texas Tech, do we need to start looking at those guys?
- 10:07SPEAKER_04: Before I I think before you start even mentioning uh getting rid of Tim Tadlock, you have to look at those guys first to see if there's any changes in you know in the assistance um that could potentially elevate your program back up to its dominance that it was in kind of the late 2010s.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: But um I I'm just not well versed enough in baseball to truly know.
- 10:29SPEAKER_04: Like I think you and me were both talking about this.
- 10:31SPEAKER_04: We did not watch more than two games of Texas Tech baseball this year, and I mean you can say what you want about that.
- 10:38SPEAKER_04: We uh when it comes to baseball, we're just not we're not very uh well versed.
- 10:44SPEAKER_04: Hey, it depends.
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: If there's if there's a hot dog and cold beer in my hands, then dude, I I know I know it all, you know.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: I'm saying love going to a baseball game, uh throwing it on TV.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: I I'm not so keen to do, but um, you know, it's just it's gonna be interesting.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: This next year is gonna be very interesting for baseball.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be interesting for every department, but baseball is gonna be interesting as well because um, you know, there's there's a shakeup in the conference, and Texatech has every ability to be a top dog in the Big 12 when it comes to baseball.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's some great programs still in the Big 12, you know, with Oklahoma State now.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: You have Arizona come in, which is very good as well.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: And um, it's just we there's no reason for us not to dominate um if things uh crack right.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Obviously, I don't think any program in this conference is going to dominate at all times in any of the sports at this point, just due to the makeup.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: But it's just I I hope that we take this next year as a refresh and hit the reset button and get us back to what we were in the 2010s.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: It's what we all expect, and it's it's just it's time.
- 11:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:41SPEAKER_04: It's getting old.
- 11:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for real.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: Changes on the other side, uh staying with the you know, swinging back and hidden balls kind of thing.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: Softball went through an unexpected, uh unexpected head coaching change with Craig Snyder announcing that he is leaving for an assistant, a pitching coach job for the Tennessee Volunteers.
- 12:06SPEAKER_04: Um we'll talk about the new head coach here in a second, but what were your what were your thoughts when you saw so Craig Snyder building up the program, right?
- 12:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, very he was uh doing really well in recruiting, he was getting this program turned around.
- 12:22SPEAKER_04: He really all of a sudden, boom, I'm gonna take a pitching coach job at Tennessee.
- 12:29SPEAKER_04: What's the deal, man?
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: Dude, what what is the deal there?
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: I think I I had the same reaction that most of the fans did where it was just like WTF, like what what for an assistant position, you know?
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: And I'm sure Tennessee's a fine program and all that, but it's it it's just a real head scratcher whenever you first look at it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: But it appears that this was a family move.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: Um looks like his wife was also getting a job within the University of Tennessee.
- 12:55SPEAKER_04: So Beyonce, Beyonce's gonna be on the same apologies, yeah.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: So that sounds like it was kind of coming together, or it's like, you know what, and apparently he's from the area.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: So it sounded like a good excuse to get back home and work, you know, and you're you and your job, and meaning you mean you and your fiance be on the same uh page when it comes to employment.
- 13:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: And uh I I I think that's where it really is at the end of the day, because I don't think that TexTech wouldn't have matched an assistant uh payroll because I'm sure he's taking a pay cut at the end of the day.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: Um, so it it really bizarre thing because it really felt like softball was becoming a program that that was fun to talk about again.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Um, because it's just been an absolute mess.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: And this does not help it being an absolute mess because now we're gonna obviously a lot of young ladies are gonna want to transfer out, you know.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: Obviously, no no ill will to that.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's just really frustrating, you know, with all the success that we experienced with baseball, softball has been the absolute dungeon of Texas Tech athletics.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: And it really is a blind spot for us.
- 13:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think uh what was it, four coaches in six years, a couple scandals mixed in there um to the softball program.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, we thought we had something really going with, and that's what's frustrating because yeah, you know, this job at Texas Tech, uh I think the conversation started flowing of hey, is Texas Tech doing enough here for these for the women's sports and for some of the you know non uh not very profitable sports and all that kind of stuff.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: I don't think it really was that.
- 14:23SPEAKER_04: Like you said, I I don't think we would have matched a Tennessee pitching coach job uh to be the head coach here at Texas Tech.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: We probably like you said, he probably took a pay cut in that department, but the fact that it's not a good look, like you just look at it just on its basis, it's not a good look.
- 14:41SPEAKER_04: You're you're losing a coach to an SEC program uh for an assistant job, and that's something that happens with lower tier conferences, you know.
- 14:49SPEAKER_04: Head coach, we just saw that with uh Jeff Linder in Wyoming coming to be Kam McCass's top assistance.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: You know, and so and and that's happening more and more.
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: It's happening with football.
- 14:59SPEAKER_04: We got head coaches coming to be coordinators now at bigger programs and that type of stuff.
- 15:03SPEAKER_04: But Texas Tech is not a lower tier program, you know?
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like we we have the money.
- 15:10SPEAKER_04: It's just our is our athletic department necessarily putting that at the front here and you know, avoiding these type of situations.
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: Well, obviously, we're not in the back back rooms of all this, but I really truly think that it was way more so the non-financial, non-tangible aspect of life with this.
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: You know, people this happens all the time in the normal world.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: Be that people will take a job and an employment that may not necessarily be a step up, but will put their family in a better situation where they, you know, see themselves.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, my wife and I just did it, so it's just it's it's not necessarily all about the money.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: Um, and I really think that's where this was at.
- 15:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, it very well could have.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, the only person who really knows this is Craig Snyder, and you know, he's I I absolutely respect what he did here at Texas Tech.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: I wish it would have been longer uh to build more of momentum going.
- 16:03SPEAKER_04: But we did hire a new coach.
- 16:05SPEAKER_04: We do the new guy in the Scarlet and Black.
- 16:07SPEAKER_04: It is Jerry Glasgow from ULL Lafayette, uh has taken the Rage and Cajun program to new heights as the softball uh head coach.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: These last, I think he's been there for six, seven years, and they've made the postseason every year, um, including you know a uh uh super regional uh in 2023.
- 16:30SPEAKER_04: And I think the Rage and Cajun program was thought to have potentially made a women's college world series run this coming year.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: So by all means, I mean, this is a pretty darn good hire.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, it really seems like a great hire.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: And this one's you're actually hiring a head coach this time around.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: Like a you're actually poaching a uh head coaching position from a you know, quote Schmarks lower level program in Louisiana Lafayette.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: But apparently Louisiana Lafayette has been on one with this guy.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: They have he has a 300 to 88 win loss uh record with the UL.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: It's like a 78 win percentage 0.773.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: It's that is pretty gosh darn good.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: And he it wasn't like he just got there and you know wrote a winning program or anything like that.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: The guy was there for six years.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: So you you have obviously that takes a lot of maintenance or in a lot of building to keep that sort of success rolling.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: And obviously, I think this is the I'm sure this guy was really excited to get a call from Texas Tech because you you have so much success at that level with what you're working with.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: It just I'm sure he gets really excited whenever he's like, Well, my resources can double the talent pool I can I can attract is obviously it multiplies from there.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: And now I'm sure he's got visions of you know, I don't know if I ever could have truly won a national championship at VULL, but at a school like Texas Tech, that's a real possibility, especially in a sport like softball.
- 17:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and there's a couple things.
- 17:56SPEAKER_04: So, like, first off, he's a little older, 65, I believe.
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: So, you know, the last 65-year-old guy that we hired uh didn't end up too well.
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: But uh that was all 65-year-olds are the same.
- 18:08SPEAKER_04: That wasn't the age that ended that ended the Mark Adams.
- 18:13SPEAKER_04: He retired.
- 18:14SPEAKER_04: It was plenty of other things.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: Uh, but no, I he has he seems like he's still got fire, he seems like he's uh a good program builder.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: Um, and it just seems like a good move at this point.
- 18:26SPEAKER_04: Like, you know, you're you're hiring a a seasoned guy who has been there before and has taken a program to new heights, which Texas Tech desperately needs right now.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: And we need from the recruiting that Craig Snyder did, we need to keep some of those players.
- 18:40SPEAKER_04: And if you're poaching some of those players from Lafayette, I mean, come on down, come to Loving, Texas.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: You they had a damn good team, and going into 2025, they were gonna have a good team.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: So, you know, hopefully we can get some of those girls in the Scarlet and Black.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I know that it's he's an older guy, you know, and he's been a head coach uh for the six years, but dude, his associate uh associate head coaching uh resume, it's damn good, and it's in good footprints where you'd like to be.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: Associate head coach at Auburn, uh, Georgia, and probably the most important one, AM.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: So he's he's familiar with Texas and probably has uh connections within the state already.
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: And hopefully, you know, he doesn't burn his resource, but his his contact book in Louisiana and keeps going from such a talent-rich state there, too.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: So I really feel like, like you said, at his age, the only thing you're really concerned about is the fire.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Because obviously, if he goes on a tier for five years and retires, it's fine.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: You know, the program's in a better place for that.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: But um, you obviously you just hope that he has the energy to maintain that sort of record.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: And obviously, I feel like at ULL, it's probably a tougher job than at X Tech.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're gonna be playing better teams, but you know, obviously you have the resources that don't make you strain as much, uh, personally.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm I'm excited about the hire.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: I think we'll see smart hire, and I feel like it whenever you look at it, it's an obvious hire of just from money and work.
- 20:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you just want to see some consistency here.
- 20:03SPEAKER_04: I mean, we don't need another head coach in two years.
- 20:05SPEAKER_04: I I just hate this trend that we constantly have to get different head coaches for softball.
- 20:09SPEAKER_04: But hopefully, this is our guy, and uh we'll see softball continuing to trend up like it has been.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: All right, man.
- 20:17SPEAKER_04: Well, let's move on to a little bit of football stuff.
- 20:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's football adjacent uh related stuff.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: So uh the Big 12 is uh Brett Yormark's all sports adjacent, it's all sports, but it it pertains to football, especially the Adidas stuff that we're gonna get into because that's gonna be like the release, and we're gonna see the football uniforms before we see anything.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: But um, this one, you're right, is more all sports related with the Big 12.
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: Brett Yormark has been on one.
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: Yes, he's been on a heater uh lately.
- 20:48SPEAKER_04: He's just been putting all sorts of stuff out there uh regarding the conference and uh money and financials, and trying to get uh private equity people and uh you know, naming the conference, the all-state conference.
- 21:03SPEAKER_04: What's what's going on?
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: Dude, uh obviously he's been trying to remain agile and doing what he was hired to do and really, really think outside the box.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, whoever, whoever President Scubenek, oh, and big ups to President Scubanek getting healthy.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: Um, I hope oh, hope all is well in that household right now.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: Um uh what President Scubanak always says is like, oh, he's just got so many ideas.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: Like, y'all ever heard anything yet?
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: Like he's got he's got a long list.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: And I think it's just just another one of those.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: Um, he's just a business guy trying to to trying to wheel and deal.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: Um, so when it comes to the private equity, and uh that's obviously the more boring conversation.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Is I a lot of people are scared of that because you you kind of corporatize the sport, but I think the only uh salvation you can find from that or respite is the sport is already so long gone from what you remember that this is what's any different.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: About uh people investing private uh uh privately into the into the conference to make the money back.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: But it really doesn't this it's a professional league now.
- 22:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like this is not exactly bingo.
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: We're not playing with amateurs anymore.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: This is absolutely a professional league that we're dealing with.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: So I I I feel like I can understand the heartburn with that, but at the end of the day, it's like that's just what it is now.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: You can love it or hate it, but I I will let's just go along with it.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: Um, and if it if it makes the Big 12 more competitive financially, then I mean I'm not necessarily against it.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: I I don't know enough about that world uh on a detailed level to truly know where the evils would lie.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's to me, dude, if it if it makes the if it makes the Big 12 more attractive and more stable, um, I'm all for it.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: What I what I hope doesn't come of this, if if we do end up going through with something selling 20% of the conference to private equity or whatever, is and I may be naive because uh we're talking about a completely new beast here when we're talking about this stuff, but I hope if we do sell a portion of this conference or however this deal goes down, that it's not just a uh something to get more money right now and then screws us up in the future.
- 23:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: Um I I want this to be, and I'm sure these guys are having much more in-depth conversations than we could ever have about this situation, but um for this conference, I don't need this to be a hey, let's catch up to the SEC and Big Ten right now financially, and then screw ourselves up 10 years, five years, whatever down the line, and hope that some of this private equity stuff maybe brings in new ideas.
- 23:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe maybe these people that are investing money into the Big 12 have connections that can help better market them.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 23:53SPEAKER_04: Uh you just hope that Brett Yormark is not just trying to say, hey, our conference does make as much as the SEC or Big Ten in 2025, but then 2030, we're looking at it like, oh shit, we're this did not go well at all.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: Like, I just I just hope they're doing their due dil diligence here.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: Well, I I I don't know much about it, but and here's just me trying to spitball on it is you know, where you're talking about like uh equity groups and uh these these types of firms is not only are they there to make money back for their investors, I I might be completely wrong on this, but as far as I know, these companies, these firms are actually legally obligated to make money back for their um investors.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: So they would it wouldn't be like some skeezy loan shark sort of thing.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: It's these these are very sophisticated organizations that uh pull levers to ri uh to raise the the value of whatever they're investing in.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: So you're you're not it's not like you're just bringing on a bunch of uh you know greedy guys in top hats behind a door smoking cigars.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: Like these these are obviously people that will have to put in the work to ensure that the Big 12 indeed uh increases its value.
- 25:04SPEAKER_04: So like we just said I I'd be afraid of a guy in a top hat right now, going, gonna buy the buy the big 12.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: Man, wait, man, forward forward cash.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: What?
- 25:16SPEAKER_04: Sorry, I cut you off.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: No, it's cool, but yeah, I I think because it just kind of ropes back to what you were just saying, is that perhaps then you could bring in these different ideas of how you increase value.
- 25:26SPEAKER_03: Um, maybe new it can open the door to new events being put on for the Big 12, new branding opportunities, uh, more like licensing deals, perhaps uh like you know, streaming opportunities to put together shows and such, you know, just just different things like that.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: So obviously, Brett Nort Yormark is a smart guy and he knows way more about this than I do, but I'm with you.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: As long as it's like an investment that is supposed to always bring in incrementally higher returns to everybody, then I don't really see what the issue is.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: And I kind of make keep making this point, and we'll talk about it more when we talk about the naming rights.
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: Is in a lot of ways, I feel like the Big 12 is just gonna be the first to do all these things because eventually no one's if they see if it's successful, they'll be like, Why then why aren't we doing this?
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: Like, what do we lose by not just doing it?
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: You know, yeah, even I mean, that with the SC and Big Ten too, like because it's not like they're going, like, man, we make so much money now, we're so satisfied.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's otherwise, we would have stopped this a long time ago.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: We'd probably still be in the Southwest conference, you know.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it's it I feel like this is just kind of the first whenever the Big 12 is doing all these things.
- 26:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and the one thing that I can firmly say I am for is the Big 12 trying new things because right now we're in a situation, like it or not, where the SEC and the Big Ten are making more money, and it's because they have the bigger brands, they have the better TV deal.
- 26:49SPEAKER_04: We have to find a way and get creative here.
- 26:52SPEAKER_04: This is something that Brett Yormark was brought in to do, is to at least you know look into stuff like this.
- 26:59SPEAKER_04: So I'm glad he's actually doing stuff and he's not just you know sitting and just hoping our TV deal covers it.
- 27:06SPEAKER_04: Hey, let's convince you know the people, even though it's a clear right now the SEC and the Big Ten are are making more money than us right now.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: I'm glad we're trying different things and looking at different outlets right now.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, it's whatever people like Kenna, you know, from the outside, they sit here and laugh at the Big 12 from doing this, like, oh, look how desperate the Arlie, you know, look at the bunch the bunch of mids trying to play with the big boys.
- 27:29SPEAKER_03: I think what people have to remember is the Big 12 could shoot could do literally anything, anything impressive, and the haters will always have something to say about it.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: Always the Big 12 can go off and rattle off like five nattties in a row, and they'll still say, Well, you don't have a Michigan or Alabama, you know, kind of thing.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: So it's the haters will always find a way to rip on it.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: So I applaud the Big 12 just nosediving and just trying to not nosediving in a in a bad way.
- 27:54SPEAKER_04: That's a bad bad way to put it.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: That's a bad way to say it.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: I I busting through walls, I should say, you know, and trying new things because at the end of the day, like now I think we're just this, we're sitting off like tidal waves.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Obviously, we're you know, we're breaking up against the uh SEC and Big Ten walls, it's not doing much, but I think you are rocking the boats of the ACC, you know, like in the I'm sure the ACC is looking at the Big 12 and going, you know, they probably I'm sure I don't know if they've truly admitted it to themselves yet, but that's their competition.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: And if we could sit there and just uh toss their boat around, I feel like the Big 12 can do what they just did to the Pac 12, destabilize it to a point to where you can grab some more brands.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm not saying just it to be evil, but just to stabilize yourselves even more, you know, make the Big 12 more valuable, uh, and have a stronger longevity plan of growth.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: We're still in the eater be eaten situation right now, exactly.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Especially like the SEC's stable, they're just doing just fine.
- 28:48SPEAKER_04: The Big Ten doesn't have a lot to worry about, but right now the Big 12 ACC, like this is all right, it's you or me.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: You know, me, buddy.
- 28:58SPEAKER_04: So yeah, whatever, whatever we and we know more realignment is to come.
- 29:02SPEAKER_04: What for sure?
- 29:03SPEAKER_04: The the stability of Clemson and Florida State right now and all that kind of junk.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: It you know, this stuff is going to change even further, and I'm glad we got a guy who's willing to get creative uh with this type of stuff.
- 29:14SPEAKER_04: So uh the other part of this that I wasn't so keen on that we kind of had a conversation on is the Big 12 discussing selling the naming rights to the conference to corporations, brands.
- 29:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, we're I guess they're looking at a bunch of different uh people right now to I know Allstate was named as one of the main um companies that is looking to buy naming rights to the conference, and this would is definitely different, it definitely changes stuff.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: Um I mean, okay, what are your thoughts?
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: Um, this one this one isn't nearly as scary in the in in the sense as the private equity firm is than selling off your conference because all all you are doing is selling a broadcasting right at the end of the day, because what you're doing is you're just attaching a company to headline the league on TV.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: That's all you're doing.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: All you're they're just doing that.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: So the talking heads have to say the all state Big 12 game.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: That's all they're doing.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: And I feel like people are losing their minds over this for no reason.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: I really think I think this is out of all of it, is truly free money.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: Because whenever you think about it, you can even a la carte it.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: I'm sure your mark's already thinking about this, where the football is gonna be the all-state football Big 12 league, and then the basketball can be the Phillips 66 basketball league, and then you so on and so forth.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: Like you can use you have all these opportunities for naming rights for companies to come in and drop big bucks.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: So every single time they say Big 12, they have to say blank Big 12.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: I really I have zero issue with this because this is not new, like this is this has happened all over sports.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: It hasn't happened though at this level, it hasn't happened with a conference name, you know, where it like the the names that were thrown out there by Brett McMurphy and a few others that were reporting on this big Allstate conference, all state 12 conference, literally getting rid of either the big or the 12 in the big 12 conference.
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: That's dumb.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: Uh to me, that would be uh a bad look.
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: It's just a bad look to completely throw in whatever name, Allstate, Panera Bread, Auto Zone, like I don't I I don't care what it is, it doesn't look good.
- 31:29SPEAKER_04: The little C's 12 conference, hot and ready conference taking a pep conference.
- 31:36SPEAKER_04: Like, I don't I don't want this, I don't want the pepperoni and the cheese divisions, I don't want this.
- 31:43SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'm fine with just keeping the big 12.
- 31:46SPEAKER_04: I what I'm more concerned about here is how much money is every team actually making from doing something like this.
- 31:54SPEAKER_04: Is this like if this is a big deal and we're making 10 million more bucks a year to do this, great.
- 32:01SPEAKER_04: But if we're bringing in a million and a half, two million dollars to completely sell off the name and call ourselves the Allstate 12 conference, like I'm not for that.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: Well, up to I mean, in this in this in today's game, I'm sure it's always been this way.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: The margins are razor thin, man.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: Like everyone's always talking about like how much money they're making, but you have to spend that money, dude.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: It's not like you can just hang on to it like a dragon of gold, because A, you're a non-profit organization in theory, and B, um, you have to you have to use it, yeah, or you have to pay the players, like you otherwise someone else will pay them more, kind of thing, you know, or then the coaches and so on, and the facilities and so on.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: Um, so I think any money you can get out of it is enough in a sense, you know.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you have to be realistic.
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: Like if it's like five bucks, then no.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: But like I'm saying, but if it's like a it's like a million to two million to be the the the Taco Bell uh mild sauce and hot sauce division, you know, the chalupa versus uh quesarito division.
- 33:00SPEAKER_04: Um then I mean why I just I just don't know if that's worth it.
- 33:05SPEAKER_04: I guess that's for everybody to decide on their own personal feelings for it, but like I don't know if one superstar level transfer from the portal is worth calling ourselves the nacho cheese division and the cool ranch division, you know.
- 33:20SPEAKER_04: Like, I don't I don't want to do that.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: I don't want to live moss conference, dude.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: That I mean you say like that's not worth it, but you just changed your season.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: You literally just said something that changed your season.
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, yeah, I I mean I feel like the money here would not be big enough to where it's we're not gonna get like the clowning is worth it, I guess.
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: But I I feel like whatever the school makes from this type of thing is gonna go directly to NIL and you're just gonna spend it on either one or two or three, you know, potential players for your basketball program, for your football program, wherever you want to spend it.
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: But I just don't know if the money is big enough to actually make this worth it.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: I I personally I don't think I have I really don't have much of an issue with it because it truly is at the end of the day a broadcasting trademark.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: Because are you really gonna go up to your buddy at the bar and say uh who's gonna win the Allstate 12?
- 34:17SPEAKER_04: We're gonna say the Big 12 at the end of the day, you know, like I'm gonna say who's gonna win the little C's hot and ready league or or the Big Ten.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: Who's gonna win?
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: And here's a representative from the QT truck stop conference.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: Would be dope.
- 34:35SPEAKER_04: That would be dope as shit, but anyway, Chili's came out with some great tweets.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: Chili's, I think Bucky's had some good ones, but like Quick Trip, Quick Trip literally tweeted, we'll make it the truck stop conference.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: That's what it was.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: That's what it was.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, QT, man.
- 34:49SPEAKER_04: You gotta do it.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: But uh again, man, I I don't have an issue with it because again, I I also want to reiterate that I think the Big 12 would be the first to do this.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Like it would just be all right, yeah, everyone clown on the Big 12 for being the all-state Big 12 conference on TV, but then like it's five to 10 years down the road, it'll be the the freaking Pizza Hut Big Ten.
- 35:09SPEAKER_04: I mean, I don't see, and I don't know why.
- 35:12SPEAKER_04: I don't know why you'd get rid of Big 12 though.
- 35:15SPEAKER_04: Like, don't get rid of bigger 12 in the name.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: Like, I do the all-state Big 12 conference, like that's fine, but don't do the all-state 12 conference or the big all-state conference.
- 35:26SPEAKER_04: Like, come on, that's so dumb.
- 35:28SPEAKER_04: You don't need to get rid of bigger 12 in this.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: No, no, because you basically I feel like the smart way to do this, and I'm obviously way more smart with than Bretton Your Mark when it comes to this stuff, is that you just you just attach the sponsor's name to the conference, yeah.
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: You just say it's like the bowl games, man.
- 35:46SPEAKER_04: It's yeah, it's the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, you know.
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: Come on, and for for several years, it was the monster NASCAR cup.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: Like, it's this isn't new in sports, like it happens a lot.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: So I I really don't I think people are just blowing out of it.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: It's fun to clown on it because it's really funny, it really is.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: But like if it gives if it gives our teams who are already at a disadvantage uh a another bump to get a star player that could change the season, then yes, do it.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: If it's if it's the big bush light league, I'm there.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, yes, dude.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: And I like how you're saying like the little C's pepperoni versus cheese division, like as if we wouldn't eat that up all day long, dude.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: It would be it would be really easy to clown on, though.
- 36:29SPEAKER_04: Like you and I would have fun with it.
- 36:31SPEAKER_04: But if like there if somebody if somebody on Twitter, I'm thinking about some jackass UT guy on Twitter, is just like you literally play in the cheese division of the little Caesars League.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: I'd be like, I have nothing to say to you.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: After every touchdown, they're no longer touchdowns, they are pizza pizzas.
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: All right, you might be convincing me.
- 36:57SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, pizza pizza.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: They have the little C's guy just come out, little animation, every single touchdown, every single drive.
- 37:11SPEAKER_04: Get rid of all mascots, and it's just the little C's guy at all Big 12 schools with its own little twist.
- 37:20SPEAKER_04: Put the red mustache for Texas Tech on the little C's guy, and that's Texas Tech Pizza Pizza.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: As long as they sell hot and ready's taking a pep in the Jones dude for five bucks, I'd be there right now.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: Listen, how have we not thought about this?
- 37:35SPEAKER_04: Regardless if little C's wins the naming rights, they need to be in the stadium.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: Give me a five buck pizza instead of a$17 beer and hot dog combination.
- 37:46SPEAKER_04: Like, come on.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: Let me feed the boys.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: Student section would go crazy with that.
- 37:52SPEAKER_04: There would be now this is a bad idea because there'd be a lot of pizza being thrown on the field.
- 37:59SPEAKER_04: There'd be sauce everywhere, and you know, students would throw literal whole pizzas like trying to throw like a tortilla.
- 38:12SPEAKER_04: Imagine just an entire pizza just being thrown onto the field.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: It's a red covered in red sauce for the rest of the game.
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: Okay, maybe this is a bad idea.
- 38:23SPEAKER_04: Maybe this is why they don't sell pizza in football games.
- 38:26SPEAKER_04: Oh okay.
- 38:28SPEAKER_04: That's a crazy red field goal.
- 38:30SPEAKER_04: Let's move on.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: Let's move on to more sponsorship fun times.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: Uh starting July 1st, Texas Tech University is officially switching from Under Armour to an Adidas school.
- 38:45SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech, so there's been a lot of talk about this.
- 38:48SPEAKER_04: What's gonna happen?
- 38:49SPEAKER_04: Is the logo gonna change?
- 38:51SPEAKER_04: What are the uniforms gonna look like?
- 38:54SPEAKER_04: How what are your thoughts on Adidas right now?
- 38:56SPEAKER_04: What's are are you excited?
- 38:58SPEAKER_04: How excited are you?
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: Do you want to keep the the double T that we have right now?
- 39:02SPEAKER_04: Do you want to switch to flat?
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: What's going on?
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, dude, I feel like that's a real possibility about what's about to happen.
- 39:08SPEAKER_04: I think so.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Like this is a complete new rebrand opportunity here for Texas Tech if they want to take it.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Do you uh do you think it's just the athletic department or do you think the whole university is about to go into it?
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Like, do you think that the university might maintain this this uh beveled double T while the athletic department moves to a flat?
- 39:27SPEAKER_04: So I go back, I I like it's not an easy decision, right?
- 39:32SPEAKER_04: It's not an easy decision just to completely change your logo and rebrand who you are and what you've been for the past however many years since we've had the beveled double T.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: But I feel like Texas Tech is hinting at it a lot.
- 39:45SPEAKER_04: They have they're they're using the flat double T on a lot of stuff.
- 39:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, the new locker room sneak peek pictures.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: They're the Matador Club literally only has the flat double T as the Matador Club.
- 39:58SPEAKER_04: Like they they put these little sneak sneak peeks and this and that.
- 40:02SPEAKER_04: It doesn't seem like they're using the bevel double T a lot.
- 40:05SPEAKER_04: And like I feel like it could absolutely be happening.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, it's it, but again, like is this just kind of like an athletic department kind of trying to fresh it up?
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: Or do you think the whole university is about to do this?
- 40:17SPEAKER_03: Because I mean, I feel like the double T is this new one has done a good job of like searing itself into the brains of people of what Texas Tech is, especially young people.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: Like people our age don't know the old double T as the actual logo for Texas Tech, and we're almost 30.
- 40:31SPEAKER_04: I just said that on the they do though, they do though, because they use it so much.
- 40:36SPEAKER_04: Still, they always have a throwback uniform, they always have throwback merch.
- 40:40SPEAKER_04: Like, you know what the old double T is, even if you're uh incoming freshman.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I know, but for I'm just saying for like the general person, like say in like Kentucky, like do you think do you think they think of the bevel or the flat double T when you say Texas Tech?
- 40:54SPEAKER_04: You're right, you're right.
- 40:55SPEAKER_04: I think you would think of the bevel, but uh you know, over time that stuff changes no matter what.
- 40:59SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, it's that's true.
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: You know, it's it that's not, I think, where their mind's at.
- 41:04SPEAKER_04: I think their mind is at a lot of people have been clamoring for the flat double T.
- 41:08SPEAKER_04: A lot of people.
- 41:09SPEAKER_04: This isn't a small group that is saying bring it back.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: I know the the flat double T is sharp, it looks so good on uniforms and stuff.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: It really does look good.
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: They do, they both look like let's let's state that first and foremost.
- 41:23SPEAKER_04: Some of you flat double T people are way too crazy about it.
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: Like the bevel logo looks just fine.
- 41:29SPEAKER_03: It does.
- 41:29SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: I like that the bubbly logo, maybe it's just because of familiarity thing more than anything.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: Um, but I I like it, and it has all of our school colors in it.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: The the flat double t is just red.
- 41:39SPEAKER_03: Um, but dude, I feel like they're hinting that TechSec is about to kind of turn the clock back and go for a very throwback look with Adidas as the standard look.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, so I feel like that is coming.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: I I I I would not be surprised if the big reveal was okay.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: Here, I'm gonna go in and bet.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm gonna bet they don't take away the bevel.
- 42:03SPEAKER_03: I think they'll reveal a bevel uniform, but I think most of the attention will be on several options with the flat.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: I think that's where I'm putting my money right now.
- 42:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I I think I don't think they're gonna do a complete switch.
- 42:16SPEAKER_04: Um, even though all the little hinting added and this or that on social media or whatever.
- 42:21SPEAKER_04: I think they're gonna maintain the bevel as the main logo for Texas Tech.
- 42:25SPEAKER_04: That's what's gonna show up on the on the TV screen when Tex playing, whoever, you know, it's not gonna be the throwback logo full time, and and even and even then they wouldn't go back to the throwback logo, like they would do some sort of I I won't say hybrid because I don't know how you make a hybrid between a bevel and a non-bevel, but I think it would be like a revamped old school version of the double T is what they would do here.
- 42:54SPEAKER_04: Like they would not go just to the double T from 1972, like they're not gonna do that.
- 43:00SPEAKER_04: So I I like I think it would be updated in some way, whether it's like sharper in certain areas or there's maybe an outline or a different color.
- 43:07SPEAKER_04: There's not much you can do with that, but I I don't think it will be some insane, you know, let's take it back straight to 1960, right here.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I agree, I agree.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: I I I but I do think there's like you're saying, like, I think there's gonna be a heavy, heavy emphasis on the double flag double T.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: I think you'll see the flat double T incorporated into more uniforms like kits that we choose for that weekend.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: I bet it'll be at least 50-50.
- 43:32SPEAKER_04: Wow, you think 50-50?
- 43:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, see, I think that's a little dangerous too because you're not really identifying yourself in the way that you need to, like you're using two different logos.
- 43:44SPEAKER_04: Like, that's not the way to do things.
- 43:46SPEAKER_04: You need to have a primary and a throwback logo.
- 43:50SPEAKER_04: Like, you don't even you don't even necessarily need a secondary logo, even if you do have a secondary logo, use it lightly.
- 43:57SPEAKER_04: And I'm I've always felt this way.
- 43:58SPEAKER_04: Anybody that's been listening This podcast for a long time knows that you need to use this stuff sparingly.
- 44:04SPEAKER_04: Like the secondary and the throwback stuff, use it once, twice a year for football, and then you're good.
- 44:10SPEAKER_04: Like throw it on a bunch of merch, and people can buy up all the merch that they can.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: Don't like not sell the merch at certain times of the years, but don't use it so much that it becomes stale.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: I'm with you.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: Um, I just I think I I do think that my gut is kind of in the right spot.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: I think I think there's gonna be just a much heavier emphasis on the flat double T um being used way more, like way more.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: And we are using it quite a bit.
- 44:36SPEAKER_04: We're yeah, I was about to say we're already using I we had three throwback uniforms last year.
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: Like dude, they always look sick, they always look great.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: They look great.
- 44:45SPEAKER_04: They I didn't really love the 60s throwbacks that we had last year.
- 44:48SPEAKER_04: The I they were all right, but yeah, we've definitely had better ones in the past.
- 44:52SPEAKER_04: But uh yeah, I just I like I don't I think the bevel is fine.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: Some people just hate it so much, and it's like it's just fine.
- 45:00SPEAKER_04: The bevel works, okay.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: I don't understand the bevel hate either, but uh because I think I think it does it is cool to see uh feature all the colors of your school into one logo.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: I think that's I think that's cool.
- 45:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:13SPEAKER_04: Well, speaking of throwbacks, Kirby Hokut also announced that Texas Tech is gonna enter three new members into the Ring of Honor for football next season.
- 45:23SPEAKER_04: It looks like they're all gonna get inducted during the North Texas game.
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: Uh I think it's like the third game of the season next year.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Um, Thomas Howard, Wes Welker, and Andre Tillman are all gonna have their names up in Jones ATT Stadium.
- 45:38SPEAKER_04: Um, it took them long enough for Wes.
- 45:42SPEAKER_04: For real, dude.
- 45:43SPEAKER_04: It took them long enough.
- 45:44SPEAKER_03: That's what I was saying.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: Like it'll it's kind of obviously not to use the word insulting, but it'll it's kind of insane when you think about it to put Patrick Mahomes on the wall before Wes Welker.
- 45:55SPEAKER_04: They're really trying to ride on the Pat Mahomes high right now, though.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: I get it, and there's zero, I have no, there's no issue with that, but I cannot believe he's not already up there.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: You know, it they are revving the Ring of Honor up, dude.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: Like they are they're starting to throw them on there.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: So uh, because I mean I feel like there's a clear argument to be made that before Patrick Mahomes, it was probably an argument between West Welker and Zach Thomas on who is our most famous football player of all time, like in the in the NFL at least.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it's it's about damn time.
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it is.
- 46:28SPEAKER_04: Weswel was a for sure that needed to happen.
- 46:31SPEAKER_04: I'm glad it's happening.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: He deserves it.
- 46:33SPEAKER_04: One of the all-time Texas Tech Red Raiders, um, you know, had a wonderful career in the NFL, is still coaching, I believe, for the Dolphins or the 49ers, one of those.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: Um, just an all-time red raider.
- 46:43SPEAKER_04: He deserves it.
- 46:44SPEAKER_04: But we do have to give also a shout out to the other two guys um who are gonna get overlooked here because Wes Welker is going in.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:51SPEAKER_04: Um, Thomas Howard, who was a linebacker from 1974 to 1976 at Texas Tech, and Andre Tillman, tight end uh from 1971 to 73.
- 47:01SPEAKER_04: So I I'm not a historian, you know.
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: I think there's people that have done a much better job of going back and even some that were there for these type of games at Texas Tech.
- 47:12SPEAKER_04: But you know, reading the little uh write-up that they had about both of these guys, Thomas Howard, I mean all American um here at Texas Tech, uh really had a 10-1 regular season and the blue bonnet bowl appearance in 1976.
- 47:26SPEAKER_04: Uh, he was their best defensive player, he was probably their best player on that team.
- 47:30SPEAKER_04: You beat AM, you beat Texas in that year.
- 47:33SPEAKER_04: Um, 54 solo tackles as a junior in 75, uh, team MVP award, you know, uh and play had a long career in the NFL, played nine seasons for the Chiefs and the St.
- 47:44SPEAKER_04: Louis Cardinals.
- 47:45SPEAKER_04: So um absolutely deserving of having his name up there, Terrence Howard or Thomas Howard, I'm sorry, um, up there for Texas Tech.
- 47:55SPEAKER_04: Andre Tillman, so all-time red raider.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, don't get it twisted.
- 47:59SPEAKER_04: Like, tight end from 1971 to 73.
- 48:02SPEAKER_04: I don't mean to crap on the guy.
- 48:04SPEAKER_04: This seems more of like giving somebody from the 1973 Gator Bowl team that went 11 and 1 more than you know, your stats pop out at me.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: And like commemorating the season more than the guy, yeah.
- 48:17SPEAKER_04: And like they wrote in, you know, was really known for his blocking.
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, okay, when you're putting really known for your blocking, it's like and I wasn't there.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: I don't mean to crap on the 1970s or whatever.
- 48:30SPEAKER_04: I know I'm I'm a youth, I guess I'm almost 30, but like it's like it's like, I don't know if if he necessarily needed to go in before a guy like Graham Harrell, you know.
- 48:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's all I'm saying.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, I can't believe Graham Harrel's not in there yet.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: He's going to be awesome.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: He will, he will Graham's just a young guy.
- 48:50SPEAKER_04: Probably happen next year.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: The next year.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: I obviously you have to be pretty old and like pretty out of your playing career for people to really consider.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: Obviously, Graham is, but I'm saying like he's still a pretty young guy.
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: Uh Patrick Romans is just obviously a clear outlier in every single way, every single way possible.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: Um, but dude, you're uh I though that was a good synopsis of the both of them.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: And I feel like if if you're an all-American at Texas Tech, it's pretty much a given that you should probably be on the wall.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: And and Andre Tillman was Andre Tillman was an all-American.
- 49:18SPEAKER_04: Okay, I don't mean to say that he was like a bad player or anything.
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: He was his just stats don't pop out to me.
- 49:24SPEAKER_04: So he might, he's probably one of those guys that you had to see to see how good he was.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: But yeah, man, well, if you're an all-American at TechSeck, that's probably a pretty good indication that you are in the conversation that he put up there.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so it's good, it's good.
- 49:37SPEAKER_04: You're getting more from your past, you're you're digging into that type of stuff, and you're putting a bunch of deserving guys up on the Jones ATT stadium wall.
- 49:44SPEAKER_04: Um, and it's it's good for them, man.
- 49:46SPEAKER_04: It's awesome to see that.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: Uh, it's awesome to learn about a lot of this stuff.
- 49:50SPEAKER_04: I know a couple of years ago during one of the offseasons when we did kind of like our top five at every position or whatever.
- 49:57SPEAKER_04: I know that Andre Tillman popped out at me, and I was like, oh man, this guy was good.
- 50:01SPEAKER_04: You know, he was uh and for us guys who were not around in 1971 to see them play, yeah, it is cool learning about these players and learning about the history of Texas Tech football.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: So absolutely, man.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: So uh it'll be obviously the Ring of Honor uh always always a fun game.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: So again, it's just what the one that pops out the most is Wes Walker, and it's about damn time.
- 50:23SPEAKER_03: He's he's he's in our dang opener for this podcast.
- 50:26SPEAKER_04: So absolutely that was fun when that cliff that uh clip resurfaced, yeah, of the of the AM game.
- 50:32SPEAKER_04: So yeah, uh shout out Wes.
- 50:34SPEAKER_04: It was cool.
- 50:34SPEAKER_04: He also uh the video that they put out showing him getting a little emotional when Kirby told him.
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: Um it was cool.
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was really cool, yeah.
- 50:42SPEAKER_04: But all right, man, let's uh hit on a few more things before we get to song of the week here.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: Hey, what what before we leave this old school crap?
- 50:50SPEAKER_03: Sure, we we we glaze over the uniforms, and I know everyone wants to talk about uniforms more than anything else.
- 50:55SPEAKER_03: So you you mentioned in the show notes that you want to talk about the possibility of the the uniforms being minimalistic, minimalistic.
- 51:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, good call.
- 51:03SPEAKER_04: Good call.
- 51:04SPEAKER_03: Um, so I just want to put in some thoughts there.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: They will be minimal, they will be minimalistic.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: That's where everyone's going right now.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: They're gonna be very basic, very clean.
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: Um, they're just gonna it's gonna be they're not gonna be busy at all.
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be very they they're gonna use color sparingly, they're gonna use pattern sparingly.
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: It's they might do the stripes on the shoulders that everybody is doing right now.
- 51:25SPEAKER_04: Everybody's doing the damn stripes on the shoulder.
- 51:27SPEAKER_04: I get it.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: It's a it's a good look.
- 51:29SPEAKER_04: The stripes are a good look.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: But I think we're gonna be basic.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: I think we're gonna look pretty much look at it like everybody else.
- 51:34SPEAKER_04: Now, the only thing that's making me think otherwise is Baylor, TCU, and North Texas were the three big ones in the Texas scene at least that have released new drones.
- 51:46SPEAKER_04: All of them are Nike school.
- 51:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, every single one is a Nike school, and all of them look pretty much the same.
- 51:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they do, very plain, nothing really, just the number on the front, probably some stripes on the shoulder, but stuff.
- 52:02SPEAKER_04: TCUs looks like shit.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it looks like I cannot believe they took the car.
- 52:06SPEAKER_04: It looks very bad.
- 52:07SPEAKER_04: It looks very bad.
- 52:08SPEAKER_04: The the real image that got me was the one that they showed.
- 52:11SPEAKER_04: I don't know if somebody took a picture of it at like a media day or something, or like the release day or whatever.
- 52:16SPEAKER_04: Uh, the in-person, it looks horrible.
- 52:20SPEAKER_04: Like the logo placement, there's no pattern, there's no it's boring.
- 52:24SPEAKER_03: It's boring, so boring safe is the word we're looking for, I think.
- 52:29SPEAKER_04: It it looks like your generic like TV show football uniform.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: It's like we're yeah, it's like it's like like I don't know, parks and recreation had a football episode, and it was like, okay, this is your generic uniform.
- 52:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, throw a logo and make it a solid color, and we're good to go.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: Or it's like no, no licensing in the show, it's just tech versus state.
- 52:49SPEAKER_03: Like, no, it's just red versus blue, you know.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:53SPEAKER_04: Exactly, exactly.
- 52:54SPEAKER_04: It looks like that TCU's was the worst of it.
- 52:57SPEAKER_04: North Texas, they at least have a logo on the helmet that kind of gives it a little variety.
- 53:03SPEAKER_04: Baylors look bad.
- 53:04SPEAKER_04: I didn't enjoy Baylors.
- 53:06SPEAKER_04: Uh just like I don't know, man.
- 53:08SPEAKER_04: I hate the minimalistic kind of turn that we're going in.
- 53:12SPEAKER_04: And I think that Adidas, because it's not Nike, and all of this has been Nike that has been showing this minimalistic kind of turn.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think there's a chance at least that Texas Tech does not go in that same direction, and we have a little more variety.
- 53:27SPEAKER_04: Like, listen, I'm not asking for this 2014 Under Armour set that we did, uh, where we just went insane and had your gross Texas Pride uniforms and your like the red turning into the white or or black or whatever it was.
- 53:40SPEAKER_04: The UN Ts.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: The Under Armour was on it.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: Like they were, they were they were throwing they were throwing stuff out there during that time period.
- 53:49SPEAKER_04: Under Armour had some cocaine when they were making some of those jerseys because that was a those were bad looks.
- 53:56SPEAKER_03: I it felt like they were trying though, you know, like it felt like they gave a a crap about uh trying to get Under Armour out there because like I feel like that was like the last breath of Under Armour trying to be cool again, and yeah, it fizzled out because they're not cool anymore.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Now, Under Armour, I think it has actually done a very fine job on our jerseys the last few years.
- 54:15SPEAKER_04: Even like this year's basketball uniforms were mad, but like the the the football ones, I think they've done a fine job.
- 54:22SPEAKER_04: The throwbacks that they've come up with have been great.
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: Like a lot of this stuff has been great with Under Armour, but uh it I mean I'm glad we're moving to Adidas.
- 54:30SPEAKER_04: Like, let's doesn't need to be like a oh no, I'm gonna miss Under Armour because I'm not, especially when it comes to basketball.
- 54:36SPEAKER_04: Like basketball, it was the more the more I'm looking into this, the more I'm seeing that Adidas is gonna be such an a recruiting advantage for us because these basketball players are so tied to these Nike and Adidas brands that I mean they go to all these high school camps, they go to these AAU camps, they go, they play on these teams that are represented by these brands.
- 54:57SPEAKER_04: Like Under Armour isn't involved in any of that.
- 54:59SPEAKER_04: No, you know, no, like Adidas is heavily involved, and that's where the biggest advantage here is gonna come is gonna be basketball, more so than football.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I I I fully agree.
- 55:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, and you're a basketball guy, is in in the basketball world, Nike and Under and Adidas are like equals in that zone, right?
- 55:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I mean, Nike, I think still has the clear advantage over everything, and even Jordan brand now surfacing, you know, they're kind of separating from Nike more and more, even though it's still the same company and everything.
- 55:27SPEAKER_04: But yeah, it's uh Adidas is still really prevalent in uh in basketball for sure.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, I guess I guess one thing that maybe can change my mind that they're gonna be minimal minimalistic.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: I just I mean, I just go off the trends and what we've been that I feel like kind of teasing with it, it seems simple.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: Like if you if you go into the flat tea, flat tea is minimalistic.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: It's it's simple, it's clean.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: Um, the the bevel is not, it's complex.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Um, but uh I I think maybe what can give me some pause is Texas AM, an Adidas school, has been out there with their uniforms.
- 55:59SPEAKER_03: Like they they they especially during the the Stumbling era era, they were really trying some new things, like they're all blacks, uh like trying to uh like the old ones are like trying to replicate the leathery uh helmets and stuff and all that.
- 56:11SPEAKER_03: So I guess I guess they have been getting pretty creative.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: Um, it's just I don't know why in my head I associate Adidas with being simple.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: Louisville's also Adidas, I believe.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: And I think they uh no Adidas.
- 56:24SPEAKER_04: I think Adidas back in like I don't know if it was 2015 or 16, they came with those awful uh basketball uniforms where they had like the striped pants, the striped yeah uh shorts and the and the sleeve jerseys.
- 56:36SPEAKER_04: That was like an Adidas thing.
- 56:38SPEAKER_04: Uh AM, you're mentioning that leather one, that uniform was horrible.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm not saying they were good, I'm just saying they were trying, you know, they're being creative.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: Florida, is Florida Adidas?
- 56:48SPEAKER_04: Uh no, I think I I think they're they had an awful uniform a while back where the Gator skin.
- 56:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the Gator skin, yeah.
- 56:55SPEAKER_04: Oh, those were horrible.
- 56:56SPEAKER_04: And I hope that wasn't Adidas, too.
- 56:58SPEAKER_04: I don't want to get anything like that.
- 57:00SPEAKER_04: I'm just saying put Texas Tech on the uniform.
- 57:03SPEAKER_04: Like, you don't have to get so minimalistic where you're not putting a logo and the name of the school on your uniform.
- 57:11SPEAKER_04: Like, I I don't get it.
- 57:13SPEAKER_04: Like, I Baylor needs to have Baylor on their uniform, it doesn't need to just be some bear logo on the collar and then the rest is green.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: Like if I if I was gonna give our rivals TCU and Baylor some pointers with my expert fashion opinion, um, I would what I would say with Baylor is you know, you can keep the clean and simple look, but bring back the bear claws on the shoulders, it doesn't have to be the same way, like where it's kind of the faded gold and green.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: You can keep the bright uh yellow and green, but like have a cleaner bear claw on the shoulders.
- 57:44SPEAKER_03: I think those look cool.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: And with TCU, like I feel like TCU's lizard collar was becoming iconic.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: Like it was like it.
- 57:50SPEAKER_04: I liked it too.
- 57:51SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm saying.
- 57:52SPEAKER_03: I feel like everyone liked it.
- 57:53SPEAKER_03: It felt it felt like it was becoming synonymous with TCU football.
- 57:56SPEAKER_03: Like they had the lizard collar, it was TCU.
- 57:59SPEAKER_03: So I I cannot believe they ditched that.
- 58:01SPEAKER_03: Like, I just you know, the I feel like Nike is in a very much in a uh less is more attitude right now.
- 58:08SPEAKER_04: Um, and it's well, I also I also I also saw a thing where it's like Nike is moving towards a more minimalistic look because they're trying to add sponsorship space to these uniforms.
- 58:20SPEAKER_03: That's pretty conspiratorial, I feel like.
- 58:22SPEAKER_04: That I saw that on Twitter and I was like, that's not the worst thing I've heard today.
- 58:26SPEAKER_04: Like I I get it because it's gonna get there.
- 58:29SPEAKER_04: There's a big ol' open spot right there on that left shoulder, and it's like, uh, I you know, it's it's gonna happen eventually.
- 58:36SPEAKER_03: It's gonna it's gonna get there, yeah.
- 58:37SPEAKER_04: And you know, I the thing I think of when it comes to like jersey patches and that kind of stuff.
- 58:42SPEAKER_04: Like everybody hated when the NBA announced they were gonna do jersey patches.
- 58:46SPEAKER_04: Nobody talks about the jersey patches anymore.
- 58:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's just another thing.
- 58:50SPEAKER_04: They sell the jerseys that have the patch on it, and everybody still buys the jerseys, like it's just it is what it is.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: The NBA did a really great job, I think, with integrating it.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: It's it seems very organic in the NBA uniform.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's probably, and I feel like you'd hopefully go with that.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: You know, you don't want a logo that has all these clashing colors with yours kind of thing.
- 59:11SPEAKER_03: You got to make sure it blends in well, like you do with the uh the conference patch on your jersey, make sure it blends in nice and well.
- 59:17SPEAKER_03: Um, so I feel that's what I would hope.
- 59:18SPEAKER_03: But you know, it's funny that we would make fun of putting sponsors on jerseys when the most popular sport in the world, soccer, their jerseys are decked the frick new in sponsors from top to bottom, dude.
- 59:32SPEAKER_04: So it's not necessarily a new thing or an agreement sort of like when I was when I was a kid, I didn't know Emirates was an airline.
- 59:39SPEAKER_04: Like I didn't, I thought it was a soccer thing.
- 59:41SPEAKER_04: I thought it was just like, okay, they produce soccer uniforms or something.
- 59:46SPEAKER_04: And then it's like Emirates no, and they it's an airline.
- 59:49SPEAKER_04: I'm like, oh yeah, yeah.
- 59:50SPEAKER_03: And of course, with NASCAR, you have or any automobiles, you have the the cars decked out and the driver's suits decked out in sponsors, so it's always new to sports.
- 59:58SPEAKER_04: Always love the MM's car.
- 59:59SPEAKER_04: Whoever's driving the Eminem's car, you're a winner.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_03: Hell yeah, yellow baby.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_03: Um so, but yeah, that I I I I that's good, that's coming.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, I've we've obviously gotten a bit off topic from are they are they gonna be minimalistic?
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_03: This went really deep.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_04: But you know, I love the MM's car.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_03: But you know, I it's it's fun talking about this, and I know we gave crap to the fun uniforms that the Kingsbury era brought, but at the end of the day, why not try it every once in a while?
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_04: Like once a season, once a season throw something out there that's you don't need to just go crazy and be like, hey, it's 2025.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_04: Let's just let's just say F it and give us like five different alternate uniforms.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: Like I said, if if you know, I really would like there to be a game where Texas Tech rolls out a Mahomes brand uniform.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_03: I think that would be pretty dang cool.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_03: Just one game, it doesn't have to be every day, but instead of the Adidas stripes, it's the Bumba Holmes patch.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_03: I think that'd be pretty dang cool.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_04: There was a leaked picture that popped out that was quickly deleted, and then I saw it reposted a few different times of it had it was like a big display, and it had Texas Tech, it had the Adidas logo, and then on the other side it had the Pat Mahomes logo.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_04: They're definitely gonna do something with it.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_04: I just hope they don't put it on the jerseys, and it's fine if they do it on one whatever, one week, Pat Mahomes is in attendance, whatever.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_04: But do not make that the full-time sponsor.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_04: Put the three stripes on instead of the Pat Mahomes logo.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_04: That's what you need to do.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_03: I don't think I don't think they would.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: I think because I think what you can do with it is like you could be the next Pat Mahomes uh logo right here, you know, once once a year kind of thing.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: You know, you could be him, you could be the next Mahomes.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: There's a lot of opportunity, there's a lot of great merch that they can do and Pat Mahomes and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_04: Like, I would buy some, even though I'm not a big fan of the logo, I'd still buy it because it's Mahomes, you know.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: Like you absolutely have like unlimited potential to to sell Mahomes branded stuff now, like completely.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_03: The amount of Mahomes like officially licensed clear Adidas Mahomes jerseys that are about to be sold is ludicrous.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_04: So it's gonna be a lot.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_04: So sign up on your this is not a uh this is not a plug, but uh sponsor us if you want to, Red Raider Outfitters.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_04: But uh Red Raider Outfitters, I know, is putting they're having like a sign up, and it's like get ready for Adidas drop.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_04: And then I everything we've heard is that July 1st is the official date where we're gonna get, and also July 1st is a commitment uh announcement for a lot of these Texas Tech targets for football.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: Oh, sweet.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, maybe it's got some correlation.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: It's a little twisted in, sir.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_03: Good way to spiral it.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_03: Good good thinking cap, sir, because that maybe that gives us that gives us some hopium that they're gonna pick us, you know.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: Just do it.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: That it's not quite just coincidental, you know.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_04: Please, there's a few big targets, but um, let's hit on a couple of basketball things before we end with song of the week here.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_04: Um, last time we talked, uh JT Toppin did not yet announce his decision.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_04: He is a Red Raider.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_04: Big news.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_04: Everybody's already known this for several months now.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_04: But uh no, JT Toppin absolutely like kind of finalizes what your roster is gonna look like.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_04: I don't think they're gonna add a whole lot more going forward.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_04: There's still two open scholarships, but there's kind of a trend in college basketball where teams aren't necessarily using all their scholarships.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_04: One, because it's becoming harder and harder to like balance egos and playing time and all this kind of stuff, transfer portal.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_04: I I'm sure it makes it hard.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_04: So if Grant McCassin thinks he's got a team, he's got his team.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_04: Like, don't use those other two scholarships.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_04: That's just fine, or maybe elevate some of your walk-ons.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_04: I don't care.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm just fine with the roster that we have, and JT Toppin is going to be a beast next year.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_03: So, obviously, sounds like a key piece.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_03: Um, obviously, every time a new commitment uh hops on, I kind of gauge your how threatening of a Big 12 run are we now?
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_03: And at what level would you say are we at now?
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_04: I think right now you're probably standing at the fifth best roster in the Big 12.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_03: Holy cow, dude.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_03: With a roster like this, you're fifth.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: Dude, I kept thinking about it, and I'm like, oh shit, we have Arizona coming in there.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_04: We have so it's not just Kansas, it's not just Baylor, it's not even just Houston, it's now Arizona.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: And I think you're behind, I think you're right behind all of those right now, okay, with potential to be even more.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_04: Like this is just preseason stuff.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_04: I really like this team.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_04: I really like what Grandma Castlevan has built this offseason.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_04: He's got a really good roster together with a lot of different options, a lot of different lineups you can play with.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_04: Elijah Hawkins is awesome.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_04: JT Toppin might be one of your best one of the best players in college basketball next year.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_04: Same with Darien Williams.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_04: So I'm just really excited.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's it's funny that you just like talk about how these other teams are ahead of us and stuff.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_03: It's like every time there's any uh I feel like once a day, Rothstein posts uh Big 12 basketball, like he has the shark gif now, like tearing apart the boat.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_03: Is that Jaws, right?
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_04: Big Jaws, big Jaws guy.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it it's it's it's funny like how how and insane that even the national media understands that this is about to be like it's this this league might be like the best basketball league college basketball's ever seen.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_04: It's it's ridiculous to me that anybody's saying any other conference.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_04: Like, there's there's nobody that has their top five as stacked as the Big 12.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_04: Like the SEC is pretty good, they've absolutely gotten better, and they're they have a lot of contenders in that league.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_04: Alabama made the final four, you know.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_04: Tennessee usually puts together a pretty good squad.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_04: They got they just got good Florida's pretty good, Kentucky, obviously.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_04: Um but there's nobody.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: The ACC doesn't compare.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: The Big Ten definitely doesn't compare.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_04: Uh the well, the Pac 12's dead, but uh the Beaves and Coups, but even the Big East, like the Big East, they have Yukon.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_04: That's awesome.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_04: Back to back national champions, but and Creighton was good and Marquette was good, but there's Not like you know, it after that it's like okay, you're solid, but the sheer volume, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm just like it's insane.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_04: This conference in Cincinnati's gonna be better, you know.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_04: TCU usually puts together a good team, Kansas City.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_04: BYU, the new coach, but apparently he's doing some good stuff.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_04: Um, that it's ridiculous every year.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_04: Ridiculous is what I'm saying.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_03: That's good news though.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_03: Like we ended on good news.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_03: We're good.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_04: We did, we did.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: We can also get better.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, we were tournament team.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_04: We just whatever.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_04: It's first year of Graham Castlin, we'll get better.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_04: Um speaking, uh just to keep hitting on a couple of basketball topics.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_04: Mark Adams officially joined at Ole Miss.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_04: Don't mention it.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_04: They deserve each other.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_04: They're that's insane.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_04: They're they're two real pieces of work that did bad stuff off the court that ruined their jobs at their respective programs.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_04: Um, and whatever, man.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_04: Like if you're they're trying to rekindle some magic that they had at Texas Tech at Ole Miss, and it's I just don't know if it's gonna work.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_04: No, I don't think it's gonna work.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_04: Ole Miss is not a better program.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_04: Ole Miss is not a good historical basketball program.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I just don't know.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_04: Like, I I know I recognize Beard's talent to coach some of these guys and ability to bring up a program, but I don't know if Mark Adams moves the needle anymore, man.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_04: I just don't.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I I feel like his his time is done, and he's an old guy at this point.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_03: And obviously, his his defensive acronym has to have passed him by at this point, or the game the game just evolved so quickly.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying it won't be an effective setup, it's just like this isn't novelty anymore.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was a really big deal at X Tech because no one has really seen this style out there before.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_03: It's much like the air raid with Mike Leach, it just doesn't make you that unique anymore.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_03: It's just because people will figure it out and manipulate it and find a better way to do it.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_04: A lot of teams do a version of the no-middle defense, like they do.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_04: The Baylor does a really, really good version of it that's not quite the middle, the no-middle defense, but it's a little better version of it, and they do it every year, and it's awesome.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_04: But um, I mean, you know, I don't think this beard old miss thing is gonna last very much longer.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_04: I think he's moving on to whatever program is gonna take a chance on him next.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_04: Um, so I I don't think he's there for more than two years, tops.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_03: No, no, so yeah, like you said, they deserve each other.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_03: I I just I can't believe that Mark Adams like succumbed to working for him again, you know, too.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_03: With what went down, dude.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_03: It's like come on, have some dignity.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_04: Two pieces of shit deserve each other.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_04: So wow, all right, they're bad people, they're not good people.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_04: We don't have to fake that.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_04: It's not good.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_03: How about don't sleep with your brother's wife allegedly?
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_04: So don't do that.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_04: And how about don't beat your wife?
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, allegedly, awful, awful people.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_04: Uh the good news though, on some former Red Raiders, Terrence Shannon, um, who is going into the NBA draft, which is happening this week, um, he was found innocent of all charges.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_04: He was uh um uh there was a big scandal this year, came out middle of basketball season, um, where sexual assault was involved.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, they Terrence Shannon was obviously the forefront of it, and um, he was found completely innocent of all charges um in court.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_04: I I think the what it happened maybe two weeks ago at this point, a week and a half ago.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_04: Um, so just good news, man.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_04: I mean, Terrence Shannon was always a good person, he's always been a stand-up dude and a stand-up player off the court, everything like that.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_04: Nobody has a bad thing to say about him.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_04: And this was a really shitty situation that he was put into this year.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_04: And for if you've read anything about the case, he shouldn't, it should never have gotten even this far of what it did.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_04: And I mean, the guy stayed uh poised and he stayed, you know, didn't show any sort of bad faith during this whole entire thing, and he's about to get drafted to the NBA.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_04: So I'm glad this got settled now.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_03: And I I know we're saying that he's completely clear in you know, out of the woods and all that, but this poor young man's reputation has been dragged through the mud, you know, and every every game he went to, the opposing fans would be yelling heinous cheers.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, at him, you know, looking back now and uh of something that was a lie.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_03: And it just it's just it's really sad because that's a piece of him that he can never really give back, you know.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_03: Like his reputation is always going to be sullied in a way that just won't.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously, screw the haters who don't understand the situation, but like it's just out of his control in that sense that like this just got so out of hand that the for the rest of his life, like that is in it, that's like a part of his past, and it should have to be.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and it sucks.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_04: And I hope that did they don't take that into account when teams are looking at drafting him or if he falls or anything like that.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_04: Like, he this dude deserves a shot in the NBA for his basketball talent, and there's nothing off the court that should sway that.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, just just thought I'd mention him because TJ's a good kid, and uh yeah, glad, glad this stuff got settled.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_03: Go ahead and all right, man.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_04: Right before we get to song of the week, we got like I just mentioned, we got the NBA draft coming up this week.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_04: I'm a big NBA guy, I've been big into it, big Spurs fan over here.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_04: Shout out, Mabs.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_04: You may be able to do it.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_03: You've been big just just now, you just just started getting into it.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_04: No, I've been into it, been into it a lot of years being in San Antonio, 28, 28 years, or nearly all nearly 28.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_04: Almost 28.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_04: Not 27 still.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_04: All right, take it easy.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_04: Uh I thought I'd mention it because the Texas teams are all doing some significant stuff.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_04: Dallas obviously just made the NBA finals.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_04: Uh, really good run for them.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, they couldn't pull it out, but um, yeah, seriously, that was a fun run.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_04: All the Mavs fans on Twitter.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_04: I I really compare the Mavs fans to Texas Tech fans on Twitter, they're like the same thing, and it's a lot because they're the same people a lot of the time.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_04: So uh, you know, I'm I'm not a Maverick fan, but it do recognize that it was a heck of a run.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_04: Um, and then the Rockets picking third, the Spurs are picking fourth and eighth coming up in the NBA draft.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_04: Rockets are gonna take Reed Shepard.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_04: I think we all know it.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_04: He's the guard from Kentucky, white shooter.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_04: He's awesome.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_04: Um, I think that would be the best pick for Houston right here.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_04: If they do something different, I would be surprised.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_04: I don't think they're taking a big guy.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_04: They have enough of those already.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_04: Shangoon's coming into his own.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_04: Jabari Smith is coming into his own.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_04: They have guards, they just don't have a lot of shooting.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_04: And I think Reed Shepard is their guy there at three.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_04: So um getting and getting a Kentucky player in the NBA, it usually works out pretty well for you.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_04: So I think that's who the Rockets are taking, or they're trading out of it, um, and maybe trading down for a future pick or whatever they end up doing.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_04: So the Spurs, the Spurs, they could do so much.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_04: They have they need so much.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_04: They have a generational superstar, which is awesome.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_04: Wemby is incredible, he's uh the best thing that has happened to me in a long time.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_04: Uh besides marrying my wife.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_04: No, no, not dying close.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_04: Wemby's unbelievable.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_04: Um, the weird thing, we don't have a point guard, we don't have a good point guard, at least.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_04: Trey Jones isn't a uh a starting caliber point guard in the NBA.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_04: I don't think you need to take a point guard.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_04: And I like all the French guys.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_04: So if you're a Spurs fan listening to this, if you if Alex Sarr falls to you, if Zachary Richeshe falls to you, if you have uh a shot at T John Salon at eight, you take any of those French guys because you want to make Wemby feel at home, you want to make him happy, and they're also very good at basketball and have a chance to be have superstar potential.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_04: They don't have like like the the thing about this draft is you don't have a lot of guys who are going to be guaranteed superstars.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_04: Like you have a lot of players that have a lot of potential, but haven't really put it together yet.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_04: Like you don't have a Paolo Banquero, you don't have a Wembenyama, you don't have a LeBron in this draft.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_04: Like you're just hoping for a piece, a starting caliber piece.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_04: So if you're San Antonio, take if Alex Starr or Risa Shea falls to you at four, you take one of them, and at eight, you take either T John Salon or Rob Dillingham.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_04: That's my final uh take on it.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_03: Have they uh consulted you yet?
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_04: I wish they would.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_04: I wish they would.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_04: They they've been drafted pretty well though over the years.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_04: Like Sohan's been pretty good.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_04: He has his flaws, but he's pretty good.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_04: Vassel's coming into his own, you know.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_04: San Antonio historically has done a pretty darn good job at drafting, considering they got Manu Ginobli at the 57th pick and uh Tony Parker, I think, at the 28th pick.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_04: Derek White at the 29th pick, DeJounte Murray at the 29th pick.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_04: They traded for Kawhi, who was the 15th pick.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_04: They know how to draft, they know what they're doing.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_04: I hate that guy, but he was a good pick.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_04: Good pick, especially for that, you know, at 15 or whatever.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_04: So, but just thought I'd uh give a few draft thoughts for the NBA people out there.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_03: I have nothing to add.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_04: Gus Spurs, baby.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_04: All right, song of the week.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_03: All right, dude.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_03: Uh as we mentioned before, I just um moved, I moved to Kerrville, um, which is a town outside of San Antonio, outside of the Alamo City, just north.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_03: Um, and a local superstar here uh in the Texas country scene lives here.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_03: Uh, probably one of the single most famous ones, and that is Robert Earl Keen.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_03: Uh Robert Earl Keene is obviously a godfather of the Texas Country scene, and uh he's the only good Aggie to live.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_03: And um the song I'm gonna grow a roll with as a celebration to Kerrville is a good summer song, and it's that's gonna be Corpus Christi Bay by R.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_03: E.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_03: K.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_03: Um it's a great beach song, it's a classic.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, the people familiar with the genre will know the song, and it's just an easy beer drinking beachy song.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_04: Very nice, very nice.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_04: I don't know if we've done Robert O'Roquen on the pod before, but uh I don't maybe oh you've done that one because I have that one on my phone.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you've definitely done that one.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_04: Okay, but uh no, good choice, man.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_04: Uh could always use it's summer, it's summer, yeah.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_04: Gotta have some summer jams.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm gonna keep it with a throwback country theme here.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_04: Uh doing an AJ song.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_04: We love Alan Jackson over here um on the talk of tech pod.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_04: My song of the week is going to be It Must Be Love by Alan Jackson.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_04: It is such a fun, boppy song.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_03: Bopy.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_03: That's what I was about to say.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_03: It's boppy.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_04: It's so boppy.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_04: It's just like you just always you throw it on in the car, you're always happy.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_04: You throw it on by the pool, you're happy.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_04: You throw it on the river, you're tubing down, it you're happy.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_04: It's just a fun happy song, yeah.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_04: Bopy song.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_04: We love it.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_04: It must be love.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_04: Alan Jackson.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_05: You must be the dream I've been dreaming of.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_03: You can't go wrong with either of the guys we just picked, legends in their own rights.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_04: All right, dude.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_04: Good catch-up episode.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_04: Indeed, man.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_04: All right, man.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_04: We're back.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_04: We're back.
