- 0:21forty three. That's five three five four three four three. Andrew, How
- 0:26you doing this morning? Oh, you know, I'm trying to stay above
- 0:31water. That's gonna say. Do you guys build arcs at larstome Services.
- 0:34I mean, hey, we're capable of a lot of I think, you
- 0:37know, I probably could figure it out. But yeah, this amount of
- 0:41rain is I mean, all I did last year I think was talked about
- 0:45the fact that we had such a lack of rain. Yeah, we had
- 0:50a measurable amount of rain the first week of May in twenty twenty three,
- 0:54and I don't believe we really had a measurable rain until almost August. There
- 0:59might have been a couple other times where you know, we got our hopes
- 1:02up and it may be sprinkled, but it was super dry. And now
- 1:06this is kind of the other end, which I mean we needed some good
- 1:10rain to fill up the rivers and streams and lakes that had been down for
- 1:14a while. But this is almost getting comical now, it's crazy what's going
- 1:19on. And then looking at the at the forecast, it doesn't look like
- 1:22we're going to get some but not a lot of relief. And Andrew,
- 1:26as we talk, of course, with Andrew Larson of Larsen Homes Services,
- 1:29the website Larsenomeservices dot com. Golf number six so eight five three five forty
- 1:33three forty three, that's five three five four three four three. Earlier this
- 1:37week, a friend of mine was dealing with water in his basement, in
- 1:42his basement, and and somebody another friend said, hen, he lives up
- 1:47on a hill. That's so weird. And I said, it's not about
- 1:49elevation, it's about it's about getting the water. This is something I've learned
- 1:53from you, Andrew. It's about getting water away from the house. No
- 1:56matter where you are, you've just got to get that water away. And
- 1:57it starts with solid gutters to catch all that all that water, doesn't it
- 2:04It does. I mean, you can live on a hill, but the
- 2:06lowest point there of your structure is still your basement. And listen, water
- 2:13takes the path at least resistance. If the water can come off the roof,
- 2:15go through a good gutter system that's clean, sloped and flowing properly,
- 2:20hit a down spout, go out that down spout, and exit to the
- 2:24ground where it has a slope going away from the house. Awesome, if
- 2:30not especially Honestly, it depends on the type of dirt you have too.
- 2:35Like where I live, all in the Lake, Wisconsin area, it's very,
- 2:39very, very sandy. I can't even imagine what you'd have to do
- 2:44to get water in your basement, but I'm sure it's possible, but it's
- 2:46very very sandy. But a lot of people more south of me, in
- 2:52the Madison area, they've got nice black dirt and then underneath that there's clay.
- 2:55Well, water is not going to go through clay. It will go
- 2:58through the black dirt, it will hit the clay, and then it will
- 3:00take the path of least resistance, And for a lot of people, unfortunately,
- 3:04over the past couple of weeks, we have literally set three hundred appointments
- 3:09in the past few weeks. It's insane the amount of calls we've been getting
- 3:14and the business we've been getting from this. And it's not the type of
- 3:17business that I necessarily am like, oh, listen, we want business,
- 3:21we want to grow, we want to prosper. I want everybody within the
- 3:23company to be successful, and we want to help a lot of homeowners.
- 3:25But getting water in the basement and leaks in your roof, you know,
- 3:30that's just not something we wish upon anybody. But I can't even tell you
- 3:32the amount of calls over the past month where people have called in upset,
- 3:37in tears. My roof is five years old. It's leaking through my ceiling
- 3:40right now. And Sean, this is the stuff I talk about with roofing.
- 3:45It's the details, the specific details that matter. And we go back
- 3:51to these roofs and the important things now that they weren't even done right.
- 3:55They just weren't even done. Oh, same pipe boots, same side wall
- 4:00flashing, same chimney flashing. Because here's the thing. To the untrained eye
- 4:05or uneducated person, not even uneducated person, I mean, who really knows
- 4:09that much about roofing. Let's be honest. The roof is just something that
- 4:12people For a lot of people, it's an afterthought. It's on a building,
- 4:15it's on your home, and it just works. But when you look
- 4:18at the roof and you got a new one. How the new one looks
- 4:23new. You can't see those little things. I've always said, I've said
- 4:26this one hundred times, you could probably repeat it. But you can put
- 4:29the best thing in the world on your roof. But if the if the
- 4:31underlayments of flashing, if the important details aren't done properly, it doesn't matter,
- 4:34it will leak. All the shingles do are protect the important things.
- 4:40So we've been going back to a lot of homes fixing flashings, just things
- 4:46just not done right. Valleys roof valleys are a big issue. So it's
- 4:51it sucks to hear and then people calling and saying, I got water in
- 4:55my basement. I got water in my basement, And it usually starts off
- 4:59with the first time ever, the first time ever we've had water in our
- 5:03basement. Well, I don't know. Well, I think we must have
- 5:05got a foot of rain in May and it hasn't stopped, and it's usually
- 5:10come in two to three inch increments. That's just a lot of water.
- 5:14So if you have one wrinkle in your gutter system that's not working properly,
- 5:17or it plugs up when you're not paying attention to it. Yesterday was pouring
- 5:24in town and I had to I'm part of the Lodi Fare Committee and we
- 5:30had a work night, and of course I get down there and it just
- 5:32starts pouring. It seems like it does every day. And so I'm just
- 5:36driving around and what do I do when I drive around rohing and I'm driving
- 5:44around going uh, actually no, in my Norwegian had I'm going, ope,
- 5:53those gutters are plugged, there's nothing coming out the down spout and it
- 5:56is pouring. Oh ooh, they got some shingle lift over there. So
- 6:01we've been dealing with a lot of issues and it's honestly, it's not fun
- 6:05for people when they need emergency response immediately and we just don't even have the
- 6:14people to help. I mean, I've had sales reps going on out on
- 6:16estimates when it's raining, doing quick leak fixes on roofs for people just because
- 6:21they can, and people it's a helpless feeling, super helpless feeling. I
- 6:26mean, if your AC or your heat stops working, that can be a
- 6:30helpless feeling. But you know, you can go down to a shortened t
- 6:34shirts and turn some fans on in your home and if it's cold, you
- 6:39can put some more clothes on. If it's leaking and it's still raining,
- 6:43there's nothing you can do to stop it, you know, put a bucket
- 6:46underneath it and cross your fingers. So that's what we've been dealing with,
- 6:49Sean. But again, you know we can help. Yeah, And I
- 6:53want to I want to ask you just a couple of things too. Well.
- 6:55Obviously we talked about gutter shutter, and for a lot of folks,
- 6:57I think, you know, we always talk about cleaning of the gutters and
- 7:01what a terrible job it is, and having gutters shutter and keeping those those
- 7:05gutters debriefy free and having them engineered properly is a big thing. The other
- 7:10big thing that I've learned over the years is so where I am at right
- 7:15now, I'm just south of the Dane County line. We've had tornadoes and
- 7:18strong winds roll through. It's yeah. And so there's also folks that are
- 7:25dealing not only with rain and water in their basement or water in the house
- 7:29because of because of their gutters not functioning properly. You're also having people that
- 7:34have situations where some of those winds are some of the hail that came through
- 7:39damaged parts of their roof and they're starting to now see with all of this
- 7:43rain, starting to see some of the some of the results from that damage.
- 7:46And that's another area you guys can help out at Larstom Services, I
- 7:50know, roof restore and some other things that you guys are doing. We
- 7:53talk about whether you want to do a replacement of a whole roof. If
- 7:56it's time for that, it's definitely something you want to get done. But
- 7:59if it's something on a newer roof that simply needs some minor repairs or adjustments,
- 8:03you guys are able to help folks with that as well at Larsen Home
- 8:05Services, aren't you. Yes, Yes, we've talked a lot about storms
- 8:09here this year, and you know, we have a storm response team where
- 8:13we can go into a neighborhood and really get to our customers and help them,
- 8:18you know, deal with insurance companies and put their how their home back
- 8:22to the way it was or better than it was before. And these storms
- 8:24this year, there's been hail, but but it hasn't been a lot of
- 8:28hail. It's been wind damage and then damage from trees and tree limbs,
- 8:31and after the last storm, and honestly, I don't even remember which one
- 8:35it was, because there's been quite a few, and in your area,
- 8:39especially yes the Janesville, Edgerton, Fort Adkinson, Milton, like it's been
- 8:43one after another. And I get in in my marketing directors like, well,
- 8:48should we send all the storm response team? And I looked a him
- 8:50and said to where. Like the storm started in Dubukee, it went all
- 8:56the way to West Bend, and there was damage everywhere in between. And
- 9:00we're seeing the residuals of that, and it's horrible. Limbs, you know,
- 9:03trees down on homes, limbs through roofs now. The one silver lining
- 9:07for some people is there were some people that had really aged roofs and now
- 9:11they had a limb go through their roof. We can get out there,
- 9:13we compare that, we can repair that and patch that for the time being.
- 9:16See, those are the type of that's the type of storm damage that
- 9:20needs immediate attention. A lot of times hailed is not this does we can
- 9:24get out, we can patch it, we can fix it, and then
- 9:28we can get a sales rep out there to help you with the insurance.
- 9:31So for a few home owners here lately, and more than that's actually been
- 9:33more than a few. It's been it's been an opportunity for them to say,
- 9:37Okay, like my whole my whole roof isn't damage, but part of
- 9:41my roof is damaged. And you can really take that as an opportunity to
- 9:43get you know, use your insurance that you've been paying for for years and
- 9:46you're going to get a nice down payment and get the whole roof replaced,
- 9:50Get it done how it needs to be done, how it should be done.
- 9:54Get a Class four impact rated shingle on so when storms come through the
- 9:56next time, you're not as worried about. So, I mean, between
- 10:01with the rain that we've had, the services that we offer, I mean,
- 10:05it is right in our wheelhouse and it shows with how busy we've been
- 10:07getting. But we're here to help. We're here to take care of everybody
- 10:11that we possibly can. And you know, calling and having has come out
- 10:16and taking a look is the first step, and well we're going to give
- 10:18you an honest price and go from there. One of the great things too
- 10:22about working with Andrew and the team at Larstome Services is they obviously they know
- 10:26their stuff inside and out and when it comes to working with and dealing with
- 10:28insurance companies, it's not always the most pleasant thing. It's definitely not something
- 10:33you want you want to deal with on your own. Andrew and the team
- 10:35at Larstome Services will make sure that you're getting what you're owed when it comes
- 10:39to getting your roof replaced and repaired and all that stuff. Again, if

- 11:03through, it's obviously made this area very attractive for folks that may not always
- 11:07be on the up and up. Maybe folks that don't don't really stand behind
- 11:11or will not be found when it comes time for warranty. One of the
- 11:15great things about Andrew is, obviously you've been hearing him here on the station
- 11:18for years. The company's called Larson Home Services. He puts his name right

- 11:56born. Yeah, there will be a point where we don't have storms and
- 11:58things were Yeah, Benngel home improvement questions, anything is on the table.
- 12:03I've been in the business for a long time and and honestly, we've been
