- 1:12Speaker 3: you weren't with us here on Tuesday, I do want
- 1:14Speaker 3: to start off today's show. We're going to be talking
- 1:16Speaker 3: about Bowling Green here, but I want to give you
- 1:19Speaker 3: a little bit of time here to give me your
- 1:22Speaker 3: thoughts on our season opening win against Ohio.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so oddly enough, it went similar to how I
- 1:31Speaker 1: thought it was going to go. As far as the score,
- 1:36Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be really close first half.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I thought we'd pull away more in the third, and
- 1:43Speaker 1: we ended up winning by pretty much the spread. I
- 1:50Speaker 1: know it ended stronger than how it started, but we
- 1:58Speaker 1: were texting during it, and I just got the feeling
- 2:01Speaker 1: that this isn't it. You know, I know we played
- 2:06Speaker 1: like 44 different players on defense. I don't know what
- 2:09Speaker 1: the actual number was, but there's an incredible amount of
- 2:12Speaker 1: defensive players that got snaps. Owen Chambliss did not play.
- 2:16Speaker 1: He was supposed to be the linebacker and kind of
- 2:19Speaker 1: the quarterback on the defense. Our offense looked decent. The
- 2:25Speaker 1: running back room, you know, Jamal Rule and Kai Nelson
- 2:31Speaker 1: looked good. Jamal Rule actually looked really good. That was
- 2:36Speaker 1: really the only positive I felt from the game. Like, oh, okay,
- 2:38Speaker 1: this dude looks like he's kind of got something. Did
- 2:43Speaker 1: not strike confidence. I said, we'll be lucky to go 6-6,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and I still kind of feel that way, even how
- 2:49Speaker 1: the game ended. We left all of our starters in
- 2:53Speaker 1: after they pulled their starting quarterback. Didn't love that. Especially
- 2:59Speaker 1: when you have the chance to– I get it. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: understand that, yeah, these are the games you need to
- 3:05Speaker 1: get your reps in. But when you're up by 20
- 3:10Speaker 1: and you have the ball with less than two minutes
- 3:16Speaker 1: to go and then you still run plays to score
- 3:19Speaker 1: a touchdown, I don't know. I didn't feel good about anything.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I didn't feel good about anything except for Jamal Rule.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I changed my mind. Jamal Rule made me feel good.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess I didn't really care about that. I mean,
- 3:30Speaker 3: to me, that's... It's reps, additional reps, game reps, new team,
- 3:35Speaker 3: a lot of new players. Nothing about Calandria?
- 3:42Speaker 1: No. Didn't feel great about it. I know there were
- 3:45Speaker 1: a lot of drops from our receivers. Yeah, he looked
- 3:49Speaker 1: more mobile, but I wasn't like, wow, this guy. Whoa, wow.
- 3:56Speaker 1: He had a couple of drawn up runs that I
- 3:58Speaker 1: thought looked good, but.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Austin's the Debbie Downer of the group.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I mean, 18 for 32. I don't know. There wasn't
- 4:12Speaker 1: like a– I was looking at his arm. You know,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I feel like running is– especially against the team we
- 4:18Speaker 1: were playing, it seemed like running wasn't our problem. If anything,
- 4:21Speaker 1: the offensive line impressed me more than Calandria.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Well, that was my thought of Calandria, and I don't know. Like,
- 4:28Speaker 3: I guess I knew he probably was mobile. I thought
- 4:31Speaker 3: he– I mean, he can really sling it. I mean,
- 4:35Speaker 3: he can strong arm. I mean, I thought he zips
- 4:39Speaker 3: it better than we've seen in a while. Like, I
- 4:42Speaker 3: was probably most impressed with his passing game.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Oh, really? Overall.
- 4:46Speaker 3: So, there will be more debate here to come, that's
- 4:49Speaker 3: for sure. I mean, I think– but we'll see. Like,
- 4:53Speaker 3: this was my big takeaway– it didn't help me feel
- 4:59Speaker 3: there's that little bit of glimmer or hope that like you,
- 5:02Speaker 3: we could go nine and three or 10 and two, whatever.
- 5:04Speaker 3: It didn't help me get to that point. Um, like
- 5:07Speaker 3: that way that game went, but I, I do think it,
- 5:10Speaker 3: it doesn't hurt for sure of, of winning seven games
- 5:15Speaker 3: and getting to that win total over. Um, I mean, I,
- 5:19Speaker 3: I gave us a B grade overall. Like that was
- 5:21Speaker 3: my thought is like, it was better than average, right?
- 5:24Speaker 3: Like I think C is, C doesn't change my outlook
- 5:27Speaker 3: on anything because it wasn't what I expected. I mean,
- 5:31Speaker 3: I was overall positive takeaways. I don't think I'm, like,
- 5:35Speaker 3: jumping for joy, but that was my overall thing. Like,
- 5:39Speaker 3: it makes me feel a little bit better about getting
- 5:41Speaker 3: to seven wins.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And I said, again, last week, I acknowledged, like, they're
- 5:47Speaker 1: a good back team. You know, Ohio, they're not pushovers.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And we saw, you know, Oregon and Indiana and... Michigan,
- 5:56Speaker 1: they all had not issues, but the teams they all
- 6:00Speaker 1: played put up points and they were games for a
- 6:04Speaker 1: little bit. I don't think us having to be a
- 6:08Speaker 1: game for the first two and a half quarters would
- 6:10Speaker 1: have necessarily been a bad thing. We were just sloppy.
- 6:15Speaker 1: The way the game started, usually I'm like, oh, that's
- 6:18Speaker 1: just one play. You take away that one play. It's
- 6:20Speaker 1: a totally different vibe, but it just felt like we
- 6:24Speaker 1: weren't ready for Saturday. Like there's a lot of penalties. Yeah.
- 6:32Speaker 3: It wasn't clean. It wasn't crisp. That was one thing
- 6:34Speaker 3: we were looking for. And again, I think for me
- 6:36Speaker 3: like that, if we were on top of everything and
- 6:41Speaker 3: clicking every button, right. That, that get, that probably helps
- 6:45Speaker 3: you feel good about a lot of things. I guess
- 6:48Speaker 3: we're still, it goes back to the conversation of expectations, right? Like,
- 6:54Speaker 3: I guess we're still, to me, not a good football,
- 6:59Speaker 3: like a great football team. Unfortunately. So I guess there
- 7:05Speaker 3: are a lot of, to me, more positives than negatives. Now,
- 7:09Speaker 3: if we see some of those same things come up
- 7:11Speaker 3: here in the next couple of weeks, I think that's
- 7:14Speaker 3: also a concern moving forward. So it is good to
- 7:19Speaker 3: face some adversity so you can learn from it. But
- 7:23Speaker 3: you got to learn from it if you're going to
- 7:24Speaker 3: have it. So that's what, I mean, one big thing
- 7:27Speaker 3: I think this week and then next week too that
- 7:31Speaker 3: we got to be aware of.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I'll give it, I know the next couple
- 7:38Speaker 1: games are, we'll talk about Bowling Green here. You know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: we're going to look good against the next two teams.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Like that's just how it's going to shake out. But
- 7:46Speaker 1: I don't know. I thought, I thought, Yeah, we'll have
- 7:54Speaker 1: more time to talk about Evincan Landreth next week. I'll
- 7:56Speaker 1: see how it goes, but I don't, it didn't really
- 7:58Speaker 1: feel like we were looking downfield with him, which is fine.
- 8:01Speaker 1: A lot of our big plays were, because we have
- 8:04Speaker 1: really good, we have really fast receivers. I thought Jacory
- 8:07Speaker 1: Barty looked sick. Forgot to mention him. He just looked,
- 8:11Speaker 1: he looked sharp. So, that was last week. We're here
- 8:16Speaker 1: to talk Bowling Green.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Well, who is Bowling Green? Eddie George. Yes, the Eddie
- 8:22Speaker 3: George that you know of. He is the head coach
- 8:26Speaker 3: at Bowling Green in his second year. He had a
- 8:29Speaker 3: 1995 Heisman Trophy winner, more than 10,000 NFL rushing yards.
- 8:36Speaker 3: His coaching resume, he spent four years building at Tennessee State.
- 8:40Speaker 3: He reached the FCS playoffs in 24, was the Big
- 8:43Speaker 3: South Coach of the Year, and then Bowling Green hired
- 8:46Speaker 3: him in March of 2025 to Year one last year,
- 8:50Speaker 3: Bowling Green was 4-8 and 2-6 in the MAAC. Last year,
- 8:55Speaker 3: he played four different quarterbacks. They had an offensive coordinator change.
- 9:03Speaker 3: So this year is really year two of a rebuild
- 9:09Speaker 3: at Bowling Green. Greg Nosal is the offensive coordinator. He's
- 9:15Speaker 3: the offensive line coach as well. and then Joe Bowden,
- 9:19Speaker 3: defensive coordinator. I think my overall knowledge or what I've
- 9:25Speaker 3: heard of Bowling Green so far is they're one of
- 9:27Speaker 3: the bottom dwellers of the entire country.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Well, they lost to an FCS school last week.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Yeah, they did.
- 9:33Speaker 1: 2013. Which is unfortunate. You never want a fan base
- 9:41Speaker 1: to go into the year knowing that they're going to
- 9:42Speaker 1: have a rough year. But I was looking at their schedule.
- 9:47Speaker 1: It could be a rough year. Not going to lie.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Not a lot of W's on their schedule based off
- 9:51Speaker 1: of losing to Tarleton State.
- 9:57Speaker 3: And I guess I will defend them a little bit.
- 10:00Speaker 3: think Tarleton is a pretty good FCS school as well.
- 10:06Speaker 3: We are going to face a good FCS school next week,
- 10:11Speaker 3: but Bowling Green really just couldn't put any points on
- 10:15Speaker 3: the board. They did have 366 yards of offense, but
- 10:19Speaker 3: They just couldn't score. And it sounds like Tarleton State
- 10:25Speaker 3: also had a decent time running the ball right at
- 10:30Speaker 3: Bowling Green as well, which I think it is, I mean,
- 10:36Speaker 3: positive for us going into our next game. Bowling Green's offense,
- 10:44Speaker 3: like I mentioned, with their offensive coordinator, Greg Nosal, he's
- 10:49Speaker 3: We're preparing for a very diverse run game. Their quarterback
- 10:58Speaker 3: is Constantine, spelled with a K. He was 24 over
- 11:05Speaker 3: 30 last week, had 262 yards. That was pretty decent.
- 11:15Speaker 3: We'll see. I think this is a game for our
- 11:17Speaker 3: defense when we... look back at last week right obviously
- 11:22Speaker 3: that first play of the game was not good uh
- 11:26Speaker 3: but outside of that i thought our defense settled in
- 11:29Speaker 3: pretty well yeah during the game and i i don't
- 11:34Speaker 3: think that we got a lot of disruptive plays if
- 11:38Speaker 3: you want to call them that like there wasn't a
- 11:40Speaker 3: lot that i was looking at and saying you know
- 11:42Speaker 3: quarterback pressures we had a couple uh but To me,
- 11:47Speaker 3: that's a big thing this game is, are we able
- 11:50Speaker 3: to do that against a team that we should be
- 11:53Speaker 3: able to do that against?
- 12:00Speaker 1: Just so everyone remembers, this game was supposed to be
- 12:02Speaker 1: against Tennessee this week, so we could have been facing Tennessee.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And I think we have a very different opinion of
- 12:10Speaker 1: how this week's going to go. But yeah, no, I agree.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I think we'll talk about what we want to see,
- 12:16Speaker 1: but this is definitely the offense that I want to
- 12:19Speaker 1: see get quarterback pressure. Cause I do think, you know,
- 12:22Speaker 1: last week's quarterback was, he was, he was good. He
- 12:24Speaker 1: was big and mobile and he had a decent arm
- 12:27Speaker 1: on him. And we got next to no pressure on him.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Partly because he was mobile. He was able to get
- 12:34Speaker 1: out of the pocket. And there were a couple of
- 12:36Speaker 1: times where he got, I don't want to say lucky,
- 12:38Speaker 1: but they, you know, fumbled snaps or, and they still
- 12:42Speaker 1: were able to make plays.
- 12:43Speaker 3: And, And Constantine, I think, is a decent runner, too,
- 12:49Speaker 3: coming in this week as well as a quarterback. Yeah, and, like,
- 12:52Speaker 3: I do think that the Ohio quarterback, like, he did
- 12:56Speaker 3: a lot of good.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Things, right?
- 12:57Speaker 3: And I think there's this old narrative of Nebraska makes
- 13:01Speaker 3: every quarterback look better than they're supposed to. Like, you
- 13:07Speaker 3: went off the stats of Calandria. Like, if you look
- 13:09Speaker 3: at Nick Polis' stats from last week, They weren't very good.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I mean, I guess he had 70 rushing yards. I mean,
- 13:19Speaker 3: if you're a mobile quarterback, you should be having some
- 13:21Speaker 3: sort of rushing yards, right? And I think that, yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 3: against these teams, if you're looking at them, you're saying
- 13:31Speaker 3: you should make them look horrible. They're not very good.
- 13:34Speaker 3: They're a quarterback for Bowling Green. They're a quarterback for Ohio.
- 13:36Speaker 3: They're a quarterback for MAAC teams. Like, they're still Division
- 13:40Speaker 3: I quarterbacks. They're not Bethune-Cookman quarterbacks. they're not, who'd we
- 13:45Speaker 3: play last year? That was really, really bad.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Houston Christian. That was last year. Yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 3: They're not, they're not playing for Houston Christian. Like they, they,
- 13:55Speaker 3: they're going to be probably a little bit better than that.
- 13:57Speaker 3: So yeah, they're going to do some good, some things
- 13:59Speaker 3: sometimes it's just overall, like, how do you, how do you,
- 14:03Speaker 3: how do you handle that? You were obviously going to
- 14:04Speaker 3: see better quarterbacks and better offenses in the big 10.
- 14:08Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, he's, he's, I think that, this
- 14:14Speaker 3: offense has the capability of moving the ball. They obviously
- 14:17Speaker 3: couldn't put points on the board last week though, against
- 14:19Speaker 3: Tarleton state. So I, I think for me on this
- 14:24Speaker 3: side of the ball, I, I think Nebraska, I want us,
- 14:28Speaker 3: I want us to be a little, I want us
- 14:29Speaker 3: to see more disruption. Um, and hopefully that results in turnovers, right?
- 14:34Speaker 3: Like that was something last week that I wanted to
- 14:35Speaker 3: see too. And, and, and something you want to see
- 14:40Speaker 3: that you're capable of doing against these teams that way
- 14:43Speaker 3: you can see that in big 10 games right we
- 14:48Speaker 3: have the ability to do it not saying that if
- 14:51Speaker 3: you don't get any turnovers or any disruption in these
- 14:53Speaker 3: first three games you can't do it but i i
- 14:57Speaker 3: think there's okay i'll take a step back too there's
- 15:00Speaker 3: two ways i think two general ways that you get
- 15:04Speaker 3: turnovers cause disruption one you just have dudes and guys
- 15:10Speaker 3: that can go make plays and and are better than
- 15:14Speaker 3: the guy across the ball from you, no matter what
- 15:17Speaker 3: position you're at. That happens a lot in football. The
- 15:22Speaker 3: other way is scheming it up, right? And yeah, you
- 15:28Speaker 3: might not have very good players, but if you call
- 15:30Speaker 3: the right play and you scheme it up, you can
- 15:33Speaker 3: get a sack. You can disguise a blitz and force
- 15:37Speaker 3: a quarterback into making a bad read and a bad throw, right?
- 15:40Speaker 3: And then there's obviously a combination of everything in between. So, like,
- 15:44Speaker 3: I think maybe we're still feeling that out, right? What
- 15:46Speaker 3: kind of team do we have? And, you know, if
- 15:50Speaker 3: we have the players, you would think that we'd be
- 15:54Speaker 3: able to do some of that on our own, regardless
- 15:57Speaker 3: of what we're calling. And, again, we don't know what
- 15:59Speaker 3: the game plan was in the Ohio game, and we're
- 16:02Speaker 3: not going to know in any of the other games either.
- 16:03Speaker 3: So let's see what kind of disruption we can get
- 16:09Speaker 3: or are experimenting with here against Ohio. Bowling Green.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Nope. I mean, I think it has to come from
- 16:16Speaker 1: a team pressure because I don't think we have that
- 16:21Speaker 1: guy that's going to disrupt independently. And usually they have
- 16:27Speaker 1: to be on the line or close to the line.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Could be a linebacker, but maybe Owen Chambliss is that guy,
- 16:33Speaker 1: but I didn't see on defense last week anyone jump
- 16:37Speaker 1: out of the screen like, oh man, this dude's this
- 16:40Speaker 1: dude's making it work for it. Not that they're, you know, again, there,
- 16:43Speaker 1: there are good plays, but I agree. I think scheming wise,
- 16:47Speaker 1: we have to design the aggression and I don't think
- 16:50Speaker 1: it's going to naturally happen from the guys we have.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I will, I will call out to just another guy
- 16:58Speaker 3: to watch on the bowling green side of the ball
- 17:01Speaker 3: is Jeremiah Scobie. He's their tight end. He had 10
- 17:05Speaker 3: receptions last week for 102 yards. I got targeted 11 times. So,
- 17:10Speaker 3: He's 6'3, 218. Think more of a tight end H-back
- 17:17Speaker 3: receiving threat. Instead of a 260-pound line tight end guy,
- 17:25Speaker 3: he's more of a receiving tight end.
- 17:28Speaker 1: There.
- 17:28Speaker 3: So he's a favorite target for Constantine. Switching sides of
- 17:34Speaker 3: the ball here, Bowling Green's defense. Joe Bowden is the
- 17:39Speaker 3: first-year defensive coordinator. They coached together at Tennessee State. They
- 17:46Speaker 3: were NFL teammates. Tarleton was one of ten on third
- 17:52Speaker 3: down is the big stat that jumps out. The defensive
- 18:01Speaker 3: edges that I've been seeing can make some negative plays.
- 18:05Speaker 3: They're actually Eric George, Eddie George's son. is one of
- 18:08Speaker 3: those defensive ends. He is, he had four sacks last year. So,
- 18:16Speaker 3: so I guess what we're going to see here on
- 18:19Speaker 3: that side of the ball, I guess it goes to me.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I don't know why I'm all about disruption right now,
- 18:27Speaker 3: but can we prevent disruption on offense?
- 18:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Can, can in the last week, I thought we did
- 18:34Speaker 3: a pretty good job of that. I think there was
- 18:35Speaker 3: only one play that sticks out in my mind that,
- 18:39Speaker 3: the intentional grounding on Calandria where he kind of just
- 18:43Speaker 3: started backtracking and couldn't get out of the pocket and
- 18:45Speaker 3: threw it away. Like, to me, that was the one
- 18:49Speaker 3: big negative disruptive play. Other than that last week, like– I.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Would probably add the fourth down play. That one was
- 18:57Speaker 1: pretty messy. Right before the end of the half. Correct, yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Calandria had no time really. Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 3: But again, overall, like I think this offense last week, I,
- 19:11Speaker 3: you feel, I guess I felt good about it coming
- 19:15Speaker 3: out of it for, for what I was expecting and
- 19:17Speaker 3: what we've definitely seen in the past few years. I
- 19:22Speaker 3: was impressed, more impressed relative to expectations on a lot
- 19:27Speaker 3: of guys. There wasn't really anybody that I was like, well,
- 19:29Speaker 3: that was disappointing. Dana Holgerson mentioned how good Luke Lindenmeyer was.
- 19:34Speaker 3: He got caught a couple of passes and, Walked really,
- 19:39Speaker 3: really well for his grade there. So, like, I think
- 19:44Speaker 3: just keep continuing. Keep continuing the trend and let's continue
- 19:47Speaker 3: to see what this identity feels like. I felt like
- 19:51Speaker 3: last week was a pretty good picture of intro, I guess,
- 19:55Speaker 3: chapter one of what we could see with a Dana-Calandria combo.
- 20:01Speaker 3: And then, obviously, Jamal Rule, you mentioned earlier, really just
- 20:07Speaker 3: taking it to another level of, what we expected and, and,
- 20:11Speaker 3: and McKay Nelson and Mosey looked good too. So let's
- 20:14Speaker 3: just continue to build on that. Offensive line was solid. Well, let's,
- 20:19Speaker 3: let's not take a step back here in week two.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah. I, for the most part agree, like our offense
- 20:25Speaker 1: did look pretty decent towards the end of last week. Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Like I said, I kind of want to see Calandria.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I want to see what, like we had big plays
- 20:38Speaker 1: last week, but most of them happened within, you know,
- 20:42Speaker 1: 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. And then we, our,
- 20:45Speaker 1: our guys were just really fast and they just broke
- 20:47Speaker 1: down field. So I would kind of like to see it.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Like I want to see it. I want to see
- 20:51Speaker 1: a long shot and see us connect through the air deep.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Isaiah Hunter didn't get super involved. Was it, he was
- 21:02Speaker 1: the one who had the touchdown called back on the,
- 21:05Speaker 1: or on the block in wide side block by Barney.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So I see the one. So I do think, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: as we probably looked, it was fine last week, but yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 3: And I guess I want to be clear on what
- 21:19Speaker 3: you're looking for, because I do think, especially early on,
- 21:23Speaker 3: we had a couple and I'm not, they're not fades.
- 21:27Speaker 3: They're not like, or long deep posts, but we had
- 21:30Speaker 3: a couple of scene balls that I thought Calandria made
- 21:32Speaker 3: some throws on that were, you know, 25 yards down
- 21:35Speaker 3: the field over a linebacker, you know, looking off the safety.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm thinking more of those. He had a couple of.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Good flood route combos, too, that were 25 yards down
- 21:46Speaker 3: the field on the sideline. So, like, you're saying more, like, deep, like,
- 21:52Speaker 3: Gray Palmer type shots.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I just want to see them. I just want to
- 21:56Speaker 1: see them. Not that I expect them to hit them.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I just want to see what it looks like.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and to me, sometimes some of those plays, you
- 22:02Speaker 3: have to have– the guys to be able to run
- 22:05Speaker 3: the routes to do that too.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Like, so do we have those? That's what I want
- 22:09Speaker 1: to see. These are the teams I want to test
- 22:11Speaker 1: that out on. Cause I, I agree. Most for the
- 22:14Speaker 1: most part, our offense looked good. Our run game, our
- 22:18Speaker 1: offensive line looked pretty solid last week. The holes were,
- 22:20Speaker 1: were huge and the run game looked good. Our play,
- 22:25Speaker 1: our passes to the receivers in the middle all looked
- 22:27Speaker 1: pretty sharp. You know, they all, all of our receivers
- 22:30Speaker 1: looked really fast against Ohio and Corey Barney, I thought,
- 22:34Speaker 1: looked really good. Fawzi Gilmore looked good. Like I said,
- 22:39Speaker 1: Isaiah Hunter wasn't super involved, so maybe hope to see
- 22:41Speaker 1: a little more involvement there. So, yeah, the offense looked fine.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I just wasn't, there wasn't any, like, there were just
- 22:53Speaker 1: a couple of penalties that were driving me nuts. Our
- 22:58Speaker 1: third down conversion rate was pretty solid, and I think
- 23:02Speaker 1: it's a little bit better than we averaged last year.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Because if I remember correctly, last year wasn't great. Yeah,
- 23:13Speaker 1: I agree. I just want to see those things that
- 23:15Speaker 1: we did see last week to see how they look
- 23:18Speaker 1: with our new players. And that's really what I'm looking
- 23:22Speaker 1: for against a team that we should be handling.
- 23:26Speaker 3: So my two players to watch or things to watch,
- 23:29Speaker 3: I guess, their players for this week. or actually the
- 23:33Speaker 3: exact same two as last week. On offense, it's Jamal Rule.
- 23:40Speaker 3: And I think we saw exactly, or not exactly, what
- 23:44Speaker 3: we were expecting from him. And he was pretty damn good.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I think, like you said, out of anybody, that's the
- 23:51Speaker 3: guy that you can be very impressed with. I'm curious
- 23:55Speaker 3: to see how this backfield evolves into Week 2. I
- 23:59Speaker 3: actually am predicting that it's not going to change much
- 24:02Speaker 3: and you kind of ride the hot hand and that's
- 24:04Speaker 3: looked like that was the approach last week. And Jamal
- 24:08Speaker 3: rule was definitely that hot hand. I don't think you're
- 24:10Speaker 3: always going to see a hot hand every game. And
- 24:13Speaker 3: it looked like that. It obviously is nice to, um,
- 24:16Speaker 3: now I could be wrong and it could be the
- 24:18Speaker 3: opposite where Jamal rule isn't just a hot hand. He's
- 24:20Speaker 3: just better. And if that's the case, well, he starts
- 24:24Speaker 3: seeing more of the snaps. Um, I think I'm just
- 24:28Speaker 3: curious to see what that will look like on that
- 24:30Speaker 3: side of the ball.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I mean, I think we'll still see because, again, we're
- 24:37Speaker 1: going to have a big– we're going to have a
- 24:39Speaker 1: decent lead in the second half, I'm assuming. So, Isaiah
- 24:43Speaker 1: Mosey will probably get more snaps just because of that.
- 24:45Speaker 1: But I do think, based off last week, the three-headed
- 24:50Speaker 1: running back room has shrunk to a two-headed running back room.
- 24:53Speaker 3: So, okay, I– I don't think so. I actually think
- 25:01Speaker 3: Mosey's going to get the first carry again. I thought
- 25:03Speaker 3: Mosey had a good game as well. He just didn't
- 25:05Speaker 3: have a breakaway run like the other two had. To me,
- 25:10Speaker 3: I think Rule stood out because he's the freshman, and
- 25:14Speaker 3: he did. He was the hot hand last week, but
- 25:16Speaker 3: I didn't think Mosey had a bad day.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I don't think he had a bad day, but I
- 25:20Speaker 1: think the fact that he was the fourth person on
- 25:24Speaker 1: our team with rush attempts says something. Right.
- 25:27Speaker 3: With how that game went for sure. Like, and I
- 25:29Speaker 3: don't think they're knocking him down to me. I don't
- 25:31Speaker 3: think they're knocking him down. I don't think our running
- 25:33Speaker 3: back room went from a three to a two. I,
- 25:35Speaker 3: I just think that I, I honestly think he's going
- 25:37Speaker 3: to get the first carry again, potentially this week. Like
- 25:39Speaker 3: that's my prediction.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I still think he's going to have the four highest.
- 25:46Speaker 3: And he could, yeah, I guess we'll just, we'll see.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I that's my thought is I don't think we're going
- 25:51Speaker 3: to see much different yet. And, and, I think you
- 25:56Speaker 3: want to keep all these guys got their confidence and
- 25:59Speaker 3: everything high. And I think that there's potential very much
- 26:03Speaker 3: so that Mosey could pop one early and have the
- 26:06Speaker 3: most carries. Like I just, I think it's all kind
- 26:08Speaker 3: of up in the air right now for running backs.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Two players that I'm watching Matt rules says, Oh, and
- 26:17Speaker 1: Chambliss is playing. So I do want to see, this
- 26:19Speaker 1: is supposed to be the guy that, And Rob's defense
- 26:25Speaker 1: in the middle, so I am eager to see how
- 26:26Speaker 1: he plays. I'd be remiss to not mention our Lord
- 26:31Speaker 1: and Savior, Archie Wilson, having a rough outing last week.
- 26:35Speaker 1: You know, special teams in general, I wasn't super... I
- 26:39Speaker 1: won't say it felt like a step back from last year,
- 26:41Speaker 1: but it felt flat. So.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Comment on Owen Chambliss, because he's my other player, too. I.
- 26:49Speaker 3: You know, I think those guys like that are the
- 26:52Speaker 3: middle linebackers. The guys are your quarterbacks or your defense. Now,
- 26:58Speaker 3: I do think it's important to note, too, I think
- 27:00Speaker 3: Roel even commented on that, that it's not– there's not
- 27:03Speaker 3: someone necessarily calling the defense like it used to be
- 27:06Speaker 3: because of the way the players communicate, the mic communicates,
- 27:09Speaker 3: how loud it is. Like, you can't– it's not like
- 27:12Speaker 3: what you think traditionally, but he still is, like, the
- 27:15Speaker 3: leader in the– guy that knows the defense the best.
- 27:21Speaker 3: So yes, like I do think having him out there,
- 27:25Speaker 3: I'm curious what that looks like. It's scary that it's
- 27:28Speaker 3: a hamstring. Like I think hamstring injuries just kind of
- 27:32Speaker 3: just linger. It's not something that you get over and you're,
- 27:35Speaker 3: you know, back to a hundred percent.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Yep.
- 27:38Speaker 3: And, and special teams, I'm going to dive deeper into
- 27:41Speaker 3: that tomorrow too, on, on a few things like, Rule said,
- 27:47Speaker 3: it didn't hurt us, it didn't help us. And I
- 27:51Speaker 3: think there's, to me, I guess I'm going to dive
- 27:53Speaker 3: deeper tomorrow on special teams. There's a certain level of
- 28:01Speaker 3: what you're capable of doing. Like, for example, if a
- 28:03Speaker 3: team punts it out of bounds or kicks it out
- 28:06Speaker 3: of bounds, like, you can't do anything. Like, it's physically
- 28:09Speaker 3: not possible, right, if you don't have the opportunities to
- 28:13Speaker 3: or if they have good coverage, I guess that kind
- 28:16Speaker 3: of goes into blocking, too. So, like, on the flip side, too, like,
- 28:21Speaker 3: punting and kicking field, like, if you do what you're
- 28:24Speaker 3: supposed to do, it might not look flashy. So I'm
- 28:27Speaker 3: going to go into that a little more deeper tomorrow,
- 28:29Speaker 3: but I agree. Like, it wasn't anything.
- 28:31Speaker 1: It was there.
- 28:33Speaker 3: It was just there.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I just remember there was probably, I don't know, how
- 28:36Speaker 1: many games last year? Three?
- 28:38Speaker 2: Four?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Where it felt like special teams was a plus. So,
- 28:44Speaker 1: I– and I don't– we got really close to getting
- 28:48Speaker 1: two of the three punts blocked, it felt like. So,
- 28:54Speaker 1: special teams in general. And I agree with you. I
- 28:55Speaker 1: want to see if Jamal Rule is a guy or
- 28:58Speaker 1: if he just had a– you know, was the hot
- 29:00Speaker 1: hand and had a really good game. I think he's good.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong. I just want to know if he's, like, good, good. Like, oh,
- 29:05Speaker 1: this dude's– he carries it over from this week to
- 29:09Speaker 1: last week. Or last week to this week, I should say.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that is really about all I got for today.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I will do our predictions and our score predictions. I
- 29:24Speaker 3: will say I think I didn't exactly hear where you
- 29:27Speaker 3: guys were at. I was pretty close with mine. I
- 29:29Speaker 3: think I said 42-13. So I was what? Touchdown off
- 29:35Speaker 3: each team? Touchdown short?
- 29:38Speaker 1: I was the same. I had 13-35, I believe. So, close.
- 29:53Speaker 3: And I guess for me, too, we should look In
- 29:59Speaker 3: a game like this, we're more talented than Bowling Green.
- 30:02Speaker 3: That's not beating irrational confidence. That should be what it
- 30:08Speaker 3: looks like. I guess for me, the biggest thing will be,
- 30:11Speaker 3: does it look that way after the first couple of
- 30:15Speaker 3: drives again? Or is it going to be one of
- 30:19Speaker 3: those things that we've got to wait until the second
- 30:22Speaker 3: half to really go off?
- 30:25Speaker 1: And....
- 30:28Speaker 3: I think you can write off the first game to
- 30:31Speaker 3: some of that stuff to be an, it's the first
- 30:33Speaker 3: game narrative, a new team, a new defensive coordinator, a new, this, whatever.
- 30:38Speaker 3: You can write some of that off, even though a
- 30:40Speaker 3: lot of teams have that. Like, I think that that's
- 30:43Speaker 3: a little bit of an excuse. Like it happens everywhere. And,
- 30:47Speaker 3: and not every team has the same mistakes we had
- 30:51Speaker 3: at the start of the game, but you know, it happens.
- 30:53Speaker 3: And if you want to say that great, well then
- 30:55Speaker 3: we better not be showing it here again.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Um, Week two.
- 30:58Speaker 3: And week two. And you're right. Like you mentioned the
- 31:01Speaker 3: Tennessee thing. I do think that's why this schedule, like
- 31:05Speaker 3: it's why you got to do it this way. You
- 31:07Speaker 3: got to treat these games more like when you're, when
- 31:09Speaker 3: you're a power four team, you got to treat these
- 31:12Speaker 3: games as get some, a little bit of adversity, get
- 31:16Speaker 3: some things to learn from it, but they are your
- 31:19Speaker 3: preseason game before you get ready for conference play and
- 31:22Speaker 3: jump into the meat of your schedule. I think that's
- 31:25Speaker 3: super smart. Like, especially in today's college football landscape and
- 31:28Speaker 3: the evolution.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Of the playoffs. When all you have to do is
- 31:31Speaker 1: be top 12? Yeah, exactly. I don't want the Tennessee
- 31:35Speaker 1: loss if I could lose three games in schedule, you know,
- 31:40Speaker 1: within conference. So I get it.
- 31:43Speaker 3: And, yeah, you want to say you played– well, then
- 31:45Speaker 3: play Tennessee in the first round of the playoffs. Like
- 31:47Speaker 3: that's better than playing them in week two or three, right?
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 3: You're going to get more games and– everything later on,
- 31:55Speaker 3: because there's more ability if you make the playoffs, so, like,
- 31:59Speaker 3: to me, the schedule set up for the non-con is
- 32:02Speaker 3: what you want, especially in today's world, now things could change,
- 32:07Speaker 3: you know, you move to a different format and different
- 32:09Speaker 3: way of a league, it could look completely different, but
- 32:12Speaker 3: as of right now, like, I agree, this is where
- 32:14Speaker 3: you want to be, so good job scheduling, getting it
- 32:18Speaker 3: this way, and then Then we get an ease into
- 32:22Speaker 3: Big Ten play here too, which I also think is
- 32:24Speaker 3: a nice bonus. We're not starting off the Big Ten
- 32:27Speaker 3: season with, heck, even we're not starting it off with Illinois.
- 32:30Speaker 3: I'm not saying Michigan State's worse than Illinois, but they
- 32:33Speaker 3: feel worse. It's a good way of starting that off
- 32:36Speaker 3: with Michigan State and Maryland before you get thrown into
- 32:40Speaker 3: the wolves.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Shortly after. We have time to figure it out, the kinks.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't think anything happened last week that I mean,
- 32:50Speaker 1: it made me change my over under from seven and
- 32:52Speaker 1: a half to six, you know, like, or sorry, like
- 32:55Speaker 1: I was at the seven and a half for our
- 32:56Speaker 1: season record. And now I'm like, well, we're probably going
- 32:58Speaker 1: to be six and six. So, I mean, it wasn't detrimental.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Gosh, that's just funny. It's funny that I guess the
- 33:06Speaker 3: more talks I've had with people on expectations and, and
- 33:10Speaker 3: you're kind of the first one that this game made
- 33:12Speaker 3: you feel worse, I guess, than going in. I, I,
- 33:18Speaker 3: most people I've talked to, it's like a B, you know,
- 33:20Speaker 3: B anywhere from a C plus to a, well, I
- 33:22Speaker 3: guess there's one person that said a, but B to
- 33:26Speaker 3: a B to a C plus and, and, you know,
- 33:29Speaker 3: feeling pretty good about where things were at, um, after
- 33:34Speaker 3: the first game. So I, and I think that's all
- 33:37Speaker 3: based on your brain going in and what, what you expect. And, um,
- 33:42Speaker 3: everyone has different thoughts going into games.
- 33:44Speaker 1: So I think six of our last seven games are
- 33:48Speaker 1: going to be really hard games. That's really where it's at.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Not more of a reflection of us, but I think
- 33:52Speaker 1: it's a really tough second half schedule. Yeah.
- 33:57Speaker 3: All right. We'll be back tomorrow morning. Some more deep
- 34:02Speaker 3: dive into Bowling Green preview. Go Big Red. GBR.
- 34:09Speaker 2: The headlines change, but the mission stays. From Memorial Stadium
- 34:13Speaker 2: to PBA days. Football Saturdays, basketball nights.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Every story chasing.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Red and white.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Recruiting buzz, big time commits. Camp battles, coaching hits. Transfer
- 34:25Speaker 2: moves and rising stars. The road to glory's never far.
- 34:30Speaker 2: This is Return to Glory, where every headline.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Tells a story.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Big Red pride every season, Husker Nation's got a reason.
- 34:41Speaker 2: From touchdown dunks and championship dreams, we'll be back with the.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Latest from every team.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Until next time, keep the faith, keep believing, because the
- 34:50Speaker 2: Return to Glory is just beginning.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Go Big Red!
- 34:57Speaker 2: See you next episode!
