- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Where's the jingle bells?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: There they are.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Hey! Alright, sorry, sorry.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I was off the ball.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: It's a little late today.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: It's fine.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Alright, welcome to a winter episode of Bards and Barrels.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: It's good to be back.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: How are we doing, fellas?
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Well.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: We're doing well.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Just well.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: That's the appropriate.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: We're doing terrible.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: It only took us how many ticks to get the opening song right?
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Two.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Two.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: It's a process.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: And then we ended up letting Damon sing the whole thing by himself.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: It's fine.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, he does sing better than we do.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I would recommend it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: So on today's episode of Bards and Barrels, it's going to be pretty laid back.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: We're going to talk a little bit about the beer we're drinking, a very holiday cheer beer, if you will.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: And then we're going to have a little uh conversation about uh a threads post that we had um recently where we talk about uh Christmas stories that could be um DD one shots.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: So that should be interesting.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: We'll get the the uh thoughts from the group on that, and then we'll dive into a little Christmas trivia to wrap us up before we get out of here.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: So uh Damon, do you want to introduce today's beer?
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: Um yes.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: It is a beer.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 1:49SPEAKER_04: It's a fermented beverage.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: I have brought for your the enjoyment of your taste buds.
- 1:55SPEAKER_04: Um this is uh this is a beer brewed at Steeplebrewing Company in Hastings, Nebraska.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: It's located at 717 West First Street for those who are in the area and would like to stop by.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: Maybe a sponsor.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Just kidding.
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: Uh it is titled Christmas Carol is as the name of this beer.
- 2:16SPEAKER_04: It's a spiced amber.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: So amber ale, sort of a base with a whole bunch of extra brown sugar to boost the alcohol content, some orange peel, and then a proprietary blend of moling spices.
- 2:33SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 2:33SPEAKER_04: Are you trying to patent your proprietary blend?
- 2:36SPEAKER_04: No.
- 2:36SPEAKER_04: No, okay.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: It's actually someone else's proprietary blend.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: It's like what's on the shelf today?
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Uh so last year when we did this, we drank uh Shiner's Christmas ale, which was really good.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: That was a good one.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: And that was a unique fine.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: It had like the peach peachy notes in it and stuff like that.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: It was pretty good.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: But peach pecan?
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: I had one last one.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: It's not the pecan one.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was pecan uh PS pecan peach or something like that.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: I will say though, Christmas Carol for me screams more Christmassy.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: It's got more Christmas, it's got more Christmas spices in it, right?
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Like we've got some.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't know that it's in there because it must be in the proprietary spice blend, but I definitely pick up maybe some like clove hints in there that are pretty delicious.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Definitely some clove.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: That's that's a pretty obvious one.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Uh just curious, how much brown sugar goes into this beer?
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Ooh, about 25 pounds.
- 3:28SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's a lot of brown sugar.
- 3:31SPEAKER_04: And we make like five barrels at a time for anybody who's curious about doing the math at home.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: But so what percentage does this does this batch come in at?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: It's about 8.5.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: It's not like it does not taste like an 8.5.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: It doesn't get that like alcohol-y content that you get with some of the higher.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think all of the other flavors uh helps with that.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: Ask me when I stand up.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a s it's a slow beer.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's delicious.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: It is amazing.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: So uh let's dive right into this first section.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: We can always come back to the beer if we need to.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: And don't worry.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: We will.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Don't worry, everybody.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, everybody out there, we will.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: I'll need a refill.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Uh so a couple weeks ago, uh, from when you're hearing this, we posted uh But I'm hearing it right now.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: In indeed you are, yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: You're not on Threads, are you?
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: Wait, what timeline am I in?
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: You're on Earth 616.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Oh, is that good?
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: Is that the good one?
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Uh so first of all, I guess if you're not following us on us on Threads, you should absolutely go do that at Bards and Barrels.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, we're pretty active over there.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, we engage with our audience quite a bit.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: We ask a lot of unique questions.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Uh, but the one that we're gonna discuss today, uh, I had asked the question on what folks thought would be the best Christmas story that would become that could become a DD one-shot.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: And I had it as a poll.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: I had the Christmas Carol, the Nutcracker, The Night Before Christmas, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the options, uh, which in case you were wondering, it was a pretty tight race between how the Grinch Stole Christmas and the Christmas Carol, uh, 36 to 31%.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Uh, but then I kind of opened it up if anybody had other ones that they could suggest that they just drop them in the comments, diehard being one of them.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: And I feel like an idiot that I didn't think of diehard because that would be fun.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, but what do you guys think?
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: What what do you think would make what Christmas story would make the best DD one shot?
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: Well, should we talk about this which one the one?
- 5:31unknown: How the Grinch.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: How the Grinch still?
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: How the Grinch stole Christmas.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: Maybe we should maybe Luke we should start by talking about whether or not we agree with that.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: Do you like do you guys do you guys agree with the results of this poll?
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: Do you do you think that of these four, how the Grinch stole Christmas would make for the best?
- 5:50SPEAKER_04: It didn't win by a lot.
- 5:52SPEAKER_04: It doesn't, it's not a pretty even personally Do you think that would be the the best of those four choices, and there's a lot more other choices that could have been included.
- 6:00SPEAKER_04: Personally, no.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: And if so, then like how how?
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: I I think this if you're trying to like build something based off the story that exists, there's not a whole lot there to go off of.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: It's a pretty straightforward.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: This is funny to me because it depends what kind of a player you play.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I agree with this because I love to play rogue.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: And in my mind, like this is the greatest one-shot ever.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: You have a group of rogues and you go in and you steal Christmas.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: But if you're a Chrisma-based player, you would probably lean towards a Christmas carol, because that's probably a more enjoyable playstyle.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: How would you do this?
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: How would you do how the Grinch stole Christmas with multiple players?
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: I think it would be a team.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: So like the Grinch and Max work together to steal Christmas, so you would have multiple players in your party work together to steal Christmas.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: I was thinking they're going to be more of an organized crime syndicate.
- 6:56SPEAKER_04: Max is very loyal.
- 6:59SPEAKER_04: Is that a thing?
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: Is that an alignment?
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Maybe lawful.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: It'd be a good person.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Personality trait for sure.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: So I think yeah, you could.
- 7:13SPEAKER_04: How do you feel as though it's tough?
- 7:16SPEAKER_04: Because you know the ending of all of these stories.
- 7:22SPEAKER_04: So how do you how do you create a story that people already know the ending to?
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: You change the ending.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: You let the dice decide.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: I was thinking if I was really gonna play out Grinch, so you run into a scenario where you go to steal something and you get caught, then dice rolls are involved, right?
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: So how you get out of that, and if you get caught, or if you like make it out of the house or they keep you there, you bring law enforcement in, right?
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: I think there are ways that you can change the You know, there are some dark Christmas movies that could fit really well here, like Krampus.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, sure.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like some of those like dark alternate versions of movies.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Hear me out.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: This is what I would run as a one-shot for Christmas.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: The Santa Claus.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: But only the part where Santa Claus is taken.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: And you are the elves.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Oh, plus Santa.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: That's a that's a perfect one shot.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: That's what I would run.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: Nobody mentioned that either.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: Nobody mentioned the Santa Claus at all.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: I didn't get to the post in time where I would have put it.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: But you know, yes, you know I think it'd be really interesting to do a like a dark version of one of the Hallmark movies.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Like Love Actually, or something like that, where it's you could completely make it go off the right hand.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Please expand on this.
- 8:42unknown: All bards.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: All bards.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: There, that's the perfect use for all bards.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: There's a so somebody actually mentioned a Hallmark movie.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: They said uh shout out to Moot Lagoon.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: They said, uh, I just played a Christmas one shot where we were in a stereotypical Hallmark Christmas town that worshipped Mariah Carriot and gave her power via sacrificing visitors.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: If you weren't a sacrifice, you were trapped forever.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: So we killed the Queen of Carol.
- 9:14unknown: Oh no.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: Sorry, R.I.P.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: Mariah.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: That is pretty awesome.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Sound effects in that campaign are a bit.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Lots of high pitches, very high pitches.
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: I like that idea of taking a smaller portion of something that exists.
- 9:33SPEAKER_04: And because you could like you could play around a lot with like that sort of little thing, and it doesn't really matter that the end of the story is already determined, right?
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're gonna have people figure out a way to get Santa Claus out of jail, but whether it's by comedy or by superior action, right?
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like Christmas Carol, you could do like w do a like a side adventure with one of the ghosts or something like that.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: So it's like you're not actually playing through the story, you're playing through like a piece that was like glossed over.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Not glossed over, because they they go pretty deep into that, but like you know you know what I mean?
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Like you're playing out things that you didn't necessarily see, like pieces from Scrooge's past or something like that.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: I like Brett's idea of like a Krampus or like spin-offs from some of these, because that makes me think of like Bill Murray's Scrooged.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: Did anybody see that movie?
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: Like it's like that's kind of a darker twist on it a little bit.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Still ending in redemption, of course, but yeah.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Any votes for jingle all the way?
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: No, I didn't see any in there.
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: J-May rush it down to Pratzapix and Comic Keeper.
- 10:44SPEAKER_04: How did I learn the names of the reindeer?
- 10:47SPEAKER_04: Jingle all the way.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: That's how I learned the names of the reindeer.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, the Polar Express, when they are driving across the train on the ice.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Like you could do something with that potentially.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: That'd be fun.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: That would be cool.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: It can be like really suspenseful campaign, potentially.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Like you have to roll vehicle handling or something like that to keep your the train on the tracks, and you have all these distractions that are coming up, too.
- 11:12SPEAKER_04: That would be played that might improve that part of that movie.
- 11:17SPEAKER_04: Hey, I can't.
- 11:17SPEAKER_04: I like that movie too.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: There are no good parts of that movie.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: What?
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: No, it's terrible.
- 11:22SPEAKER_04: I a thousand percent agree.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: What if you players?
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: They're not the leadership.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Uh what if you play through the backstory of the hobo, who's like also a ghost?
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: That would be cool.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's what the new maybe that's what the new movie's about.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 11:35SPEAKER_04: There's a new one of those?
- 11:36unknown: Oh, you didn't.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, you didn't.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Polar Express comes every year.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: There's always stories to tell, Damon.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: They're calling it the Christmas train.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: It's the origin story, I believe, of the Polar Express.
- 11:45SPEAKER_04: I'm predisposed to not like that.
- 11:46SPEAKER_04: Get your tickets now, Damon.
- 11:48SPEAKER_04: I will try to give it a chance.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: I'm saying it's got a high bar to cross.
- 11:53SPEAKER_04: Actually, it has a very low bar to cross.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: And I don't think it will do it.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: Like, okay, maybe.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: What is it about it that you don't like?
- 12:02SPEAKER_04: There is not a single character in that movie who seems to have any control of any of their limbs.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Of all the things, that's what you picked.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: That's the whole movie.
- 12:12SPEAKER_04: The whole movie is no one has any control of their limbs.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Like, literally, like you see them not have control of their own.
- 12:21SPEAKER_04: They can't sit in the damn seat.
- 12:23SPEAKER_04: It's so he's not wrong.
- 12:26SPEAKER_04: Every character in there is so annoying.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 12:30SPEAKER_04: To me.
- 12:30SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 12:31SPEAKER_04: Just sit down and hold on to your ticket.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: They're kids.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: They're also pumping them with like hot chocolate and candy while I'm not.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Why are they doing that?
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: In the middle of the night, too.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Because drugs sell, okay?
- 12:47SPEAKER_04: They're flopping around.
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: All the waiters look the same.
- 12:51SPEAKER_04: That's weird.
- 12:52SPEAKER_04: Apparently we don't hear the bell.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: I guess not.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Goodness gracious.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Holy moly.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: I could go on.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: Uh okay.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Let's take a look at other um Let us know if you want us to expand the book.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: They'd be happy to tell you.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: It's a very unpopular take in my household.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: The soundtracks kicking up.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: The the nutcracker was uh was I know people love it.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: It's so sacrin.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: It's so we're not even doing a beard.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: And David, David's still got hot takes.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 13:29SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: It's Tom Hanks.
- 13:31SPEAKER_04: They're so annoying.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: The doctors are so annoying of that train on the end of the whoever's running the who are the trolls that are running the train?
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: Not elves.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Like two fat guys.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: Oh really good.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Oh my yeah, because of like the the the reindeer or whatever.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Pull it again.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: So annoying.
- 13:58SPEAKER_04: Okay, that part was a little dumb, I'll give you that.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: And that go one creepy car that has all the broken toys and stuff in it.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: Why is that there?
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: I can really well, I don't know why it's there, but I can I get the creepiness though.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: Like I think dolls are creepy.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: Well, sure.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, why is that on the Christmas train?
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, I I don't know.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Forgotten toys.
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: Why?
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: They're going to the land of misfit toys.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: It's an odd old movie.
- 14:24SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 14:25SPEAKER_04: I think it's just there to pad time because the book is 12 pages long and they tried to turn it into an hour and a half.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Adaptation.
- 14:34SPEAKER_04: They tried to turn it into an hour and a half movie.
- 14:37SPEAKER_04: Brett's brain just went.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Is it better than the movie?
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: It's 12 pages.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: It's shorter.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Very concise.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: That is the when was there ever a movie better than the book?
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: That's the only version of that story that should be a thing.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: The 12 pages.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Damon likes the book, not the movie.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: Actually, I don't even know that I like the book.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: You can't tell that their arms are foiling in the book.
- 15:06SPEAKER_04: Well, it was in that time period, which makes perfect sense.
- 15:09SPEAKER_04: It was kind of like an hour and a half tech demo.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like Avatar, the like the big one that was debuting all this 3D animation stuff.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Avatar actually had a story.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: But Avatar was Pocahontas.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: It was a rip-off.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Is that another movie I love to hear the shit all about?
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: It was a ripoff.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: And then Avatar 2.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Still Pocahontas, but with water.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Haven't seen it, don't rude.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: You're not going to watch it.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Have you ever seen The Shape of Water?
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Speaking of Christmas.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Back to movies that would fit really well.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Home Alone.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: I wondered that.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: I wondered that.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: I was surprised.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: Somebody mentioned Spectral Hyena also mentioned Home Alone.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: So shout out to them.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: I get that though.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: That would be a lot of fun.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: Like trying to defend your bastion against it could be anything.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Well, sometimes I feel like so.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you guys have ever had this, but like you go through lulls of not being able to play, and you're like, God, if I could just get one person to play with me, right?
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Like you could do something like a home alone where they are the one person, and then you come up with all of the obstacles that they would have to get to to either get out of the house or get a hold of help or something like that.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: It would work.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: If you could pick a class to play in that adventure, what would you pick?
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, barbarian, because he has so many improvised weapons.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: The paint can on a string.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: That's a good idea.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: He could be anything.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: The blowtorch over the door.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Artificer?
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, I could go for that too.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Either one.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: So much of what he does in that film is based on trickery.
- 16:47SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 16:48SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would have picked a rogue, but that's just a big thing.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: Always a rogue for literally everything.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: Isn't there like a like a really tricksy wizard sort of a Yeah, it's called a rogue.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Oh okay.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Well, it doesn't have magic, but you better eat bet I'd use that bag of ball bearings when I was playing to get out of that.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Kevin McAllister wishes he had a bag of ball bearings.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Kevin McAllister is a rogue slash.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: What did you say?
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Barb because of the improvised weapons.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Is that a rogue slash barb?
- 17:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Slash barb slash artificer.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: Go on triple triple triple class, triple class.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Take a level on each.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: I haven't read the new player's.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: You're level three, one of each.
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: There's a little known Christmas film that was produced.
- 17:37SPEAKER_04: I saw it originally, I believe, on ABC Family.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: Which has been a long time since AB since ABC Family existed.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: Um and it's essentially a Christmas version of Groundhog Day.
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: It's called It's Christmas Every Day.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: And it's about a teenager who uh gets mad and then uh wishes that it would be no, like his daughter his younger sister wishes because she loves Christmas, so she wishes that it would be Christmas every day.
- 18:13SPEAKER_04: And then he gets stuck in Christmas every day, and he has a real bad time of it for quite a while.
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: And he's just sort of re- you know, he's reliving the same day over and over again until he learns whatever vague lesson it is that he's looking for.
- 18:26SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: It's a it's a terrible movie.
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: How how old is this?
- 18:29SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna defend the quality of this movie in any way, shape, or form.
- 18:33SPEAKER_04: Does he does he have control of his limbs?
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: Oh, yes.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: Okay, does he start every day with karate?
- 18:38SPEAKER_04: Oh he's making basketball shots.
- 18:41SPEAKER_04: He's not losing his ticket.
- 18:43SPEAKER_04: No, not once.
- 18:45unknown: It's good enough to be redone.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: It's good enough to be redone, though, because there is a one of the Mickey Mouse Christmas specials is a similar thing with the chip with the uh the nephew, duck nephews, Huey Dewey and Louie.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: They go through the same thing where they relive, they wish and they relive Christmas over and over and over again.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: A time loop that would make a great yeah, I think you could have all sorts of fun with that, right?
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: I'm a big fan of Groundhog Day, so I'm all for this.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Why not?
- 19:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this is an awful movie.
- 19:13SPEAKER_04: Um but I and I love it.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: Do you like any Christmas movies?
- 19:19SPEAKER_04: Uh yes.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Didn't you hear his love for Polar Express?
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: No, I'm not gonna lie, I'm kind of tired of most of them.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Um you don't want to watch Elf for the 400th time?
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: I really don't.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: No.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: I I don't know.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: Uh let's talk about the elephant in the room.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: Die Hard.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: I I think first first, is it a Christmas movie?
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: I would say no.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: If I'm voting, I would say no.
- 19:47SPEAKER_04: That's not a Christmas movie.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: There's a lot of people that would disagree with you.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: I I understand that it's set during Christmas, but Sure.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: That's like Iron Man 3 is a Christmas movie?
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: It's set during Christmas.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: It's very good.
- 19:58SPEAKER_04: Christmas really plays a central role in the film.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: Nakatomi Towers doesn't Nakatomi Towers, Nakatomi Plaza.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: I don't remember what it is.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: Doesn't scream Christmas to you.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: Well, no, it's just a building, but yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: It's like arguably, I also think the nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween movie.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Sure, I agree with that.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: More than a Christmas movie.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: More than a Christmas movie, but the vast majority of Hallmark movies have nothing to do with Christmas.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: They just take place.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Other than being set around the time, right?
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: So how's that any different than I mean they do make a lot of gingerbread houses?
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: What's our definition of a Christmas movie?
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: I guess I don't I don't know.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: It's Christmas and something.
- 20:37SPEAKER_04: I'm also I'm not really gonna get into like a big argument if somebody wants to say that Die Hard's a Christmas movie.
- 20:43SPEAKER_04: Sure, go for it.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Pretty sure they came out with one of those all dogs go to heaven movies that was based around Christmas time too.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: There was there was there was there was one.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: I know there was.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: We watched it on my grandma's Christmas movie.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Love it.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: I have no idea what it's about.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: I have no idea what it's about.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Uh okay, so let's uh I'm gonna I'm gonna insert something here.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Uh we've kind of been flirting with this.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: Uh it's gonna veer off from DD a little bit here, but uh let's talk a little bit about what our favorite Christmas movies are.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Like, do you have one?
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Do you like them all?
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: I'm guessing Polar Express is not on Damon's list.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's awful.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: It might be the worst thing ever made.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: So, what what do what do you guys think?
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Every year at Christmas, we watch uh White Christmas with Ben Crosby and Danny Kay.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: I love that movie.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: I've grown um more and more like there are parts like particular parts of Christmas movies that I really enjoy, and the rest that I could kind of do without.
- 21:43SPEAKER_04: You mentioned Scrooged earlier.
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: Scrooge is would be probably one of my more favorite Christmas movies.
- 21:51SPEAKER_04: But really, I really love the end.
- 21:55SPEAKER_04: I think that it has the best ending of any Christmas movie.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Of Scrooged.
- 22:03SPEAKER_04: Oh, you love the end.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: Any p any telling of Scrooged, sure, maybe, though it's tough to argue with a Muppets Christmas Carol.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: Like the the redemption and like finding the meaning of Christmas Carol.
- 22:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I just I think that in that like the last twenty or so minutes of that film, Bill Murray does an amazing job of portraying the change in that character.
- 22:27SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: A lot of the movie leading up to that is kind of slow uh and and just kind of not very focused, sure, I think.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: And then at the end it just all of a sudden gets this laser focus that I just I really enjoy.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: I would say mine are not because they're good, just because of the nostalgia, is all of the claymation movies like Rudolph, uh Frosty, Santa Claus is coming to town.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, all those.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: The ones you used to have to watch on TV.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: And secretly kinda hard to find.
- 23:06SPEAKER_04: We just watched uh Frosty the Snowman last weekend.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: There's a lot in there that doesn't really make sense.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: They didn't age well.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Like the whole the whole setup doesn't know.
- 23:17SPEAKER_04: Like it's set on Christmas Day.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: It's a Christmas snow that comes, and the Christmas snow is magical.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: But all the kids are in school for some reason.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: They had to walk uphill both ways.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: And like I mean, they're just having a Christmas party at school, but still, why are why are they at school?
- 23:37SPEAKER_04: And none of the boys are wearing long pants, everybody's just wearing shorts.
- 23:42SPEAKER_04: I totally missed that.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 23:45unknown: I think for me.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: I think for me, so there are a couple that um life has changed, right?
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: So there's a couple that McKinsey and I always watch, and then like a few that I like to watch with my kids, and then some that my in-laws love.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: So there's just this like rotation of movies that we always do.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: So my wife and I, every Christmas Eve, we always watch them up at Christmas Carol.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: It's my wife's favorite Christmas movie.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: And if you've never watched it, do yourself a favor because it is it's my favorite rendition of the season to be merry and joyful.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Falala.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: We always say only one more sleep till Christmas.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: Only one more sleep till Christmas.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: Uh so that's one of my favorites.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I I do like the Polar Express.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: I'm alone in that.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: My wife does not like it, but I enjoy it.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe for the music.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: The hot chocolate song is fantastic, and Josh Groben is a wonderful singer.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, and uh my father-in-law's favorite movie is Elf, so we always have to watch Elf.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: I've watched it enough times that it's a little much.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Um But my the one I have to watch every year is National Amphous.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Yes, oh my god, I watched it last night.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: It's just a great movie.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: It's just a great movie.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Like I know it's ridiculous.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: It's just funny.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Every every year I think it's funny.
- 25:00SPEAKER_04: It's the best thing ever since Bing Crosby tap dance with Danny Moon.
- 25:05SPEAKER_04: Oh, Danny Kay.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: Um for me, I think Christmas vacations up there, the Claymations, I watch those every year growing up too.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: So I 100% agree with Rudolph Mostly was the one that we would always watch.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Um White Christmas is the other one, I think I mentioned that.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Um I think those are the three main ones.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: I do like watching Elf.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: We don't watch it super much.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: I haven't like burnt I've gotten burned up on it yet.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: We always watch the Santa Claus.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: The first one.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Because I that is my one of my favorite portrayals of the North Pole.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: Popo Gizo.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: What is that juggles about?
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: It is one of my favorites as far as like representation of Santa, the North Pole.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: It's one I remember as a kid.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Santa.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Saint Nicholas, Père Noel, Popo Gijou.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: You know, but if we're gonna really say what I'm gonna be watching, like right up before Christmas, it's bowl games, college football.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: That's what I would much rather be watching.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Holiday bacon changes.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: Um we I just found last year, I think I think that's an Apple production.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: Oh, so nobody else has seen it.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: Spirited?
- 26:28SPEAKER_04: Have you guys seen Spirited?
- 26:29SPEAKER_04: Spirit movie?
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: This is the Spirited Away, I think.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: Uh this is the Ryan Reynolds, Will Farrell.
- 26:39unknown: I didn't watch it last year.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: I didn't watch it last year, but it is.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a telling of it's the Scrooge story again, but it's a musical.
- 26:47SPEAKER_04: Um, which I it's a interesting, it's really good.
- 26:50SPEAKER_04: Um and it it's sort of trick is that it imagines that it imagines that the ghost of Christmas present is Scrooge.
- 27:04SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, okay.
- 27:05SPEAKER_04: And so then uh and then the Ghost of Christmas present and Ril Ryan Reynolds, who plays the contemporary Scrooge character, they sort of affect change in one another.
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, which is uh so it's got a little bit more inter more going on than uh the normal Scrooge story.
- 27:29SPEAKER_04: But the music's great.
- 27:31SPEAKER_04: It's really fun.
- 27:32SPEAKER_04: That's awesome.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: Okay, let's uh let's do a little Christmas trivia just to break things up here, and then uh as uh maybe this will spark some conversations as we go here.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: So uh first question What was the highest grossing Christmas movie of all time?
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: Now they don't define Christmas movie as in released at Christmas or like actually about Christmas, so just keep that in mind that it could be So it's neither necessarily about Christmas or released during Christmas.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: So you have the the entire world of movies at your disposal here.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: I will say we've talked about this movie already today, though, if that gives you a hint.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: Diehard.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: No.
- 28:09SPEAKER_04: Uh elf.
- 28:12SPEAKER_04: Highest grossing Christmas movie of all time.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: I think it's like it's gonna be like Wizard of Horror or something.
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: No.
- 28:20SPEAKER_04: Um, I feel as though it's gonna be like a family movie that was released around Christmas time.
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: Um that's apparently not actually about Christmas, otherwise you wouldn't have said that.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: Wait, how many weeks was Moana 2 count?
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: Not not not about Christmas.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: It does happen over Christmas in the movie, I guess.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: I think I think it happens over Christmas.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, did they release one of those I Heart's back on the table?
- 28:51SPEAKER_04: Did they release one of those Harry Potter movies around Christmas time?
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: Is it a Harry Potter movie?
- 28:55SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: It wasn't a Harry Potter movie.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: We haven't talked about Harry Potter.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: It's true, we have.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Although I do I get very nostalgic for Harry Potter like during the movie.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: This is the season I want to watch them all, too.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: They're very like winter movies.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Yes, like that.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: I think it's just like the colors in the movies, like it's just very warm and fuzzy to me.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: Happy Christmas.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Happy Christmas, Ron!
- 29:13SPEAKER_04: I think it's a little strange that the wizards celebrate Christmas, but that's whatever.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, okay.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: That's yeah.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: What?
- 29:21SPEAKER_04: Magic Jesus.
- 29:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I mean I think there's an intersection somewhere.
- 29:25SPEAKER_04: I can see the overlap.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Uh okay.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Home alone is the highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, the first one.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: Yes, correct, the first one.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, how long does it take for a tree to reach the average ideal Christmas tree height?
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: Uh do we get to know what the ideal Christmas tree height is?
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: What is the average Christmas tree height?
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: It doesn't say, so I would say it's probably six between six and eight feet.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: It would probably be a safe add.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna say five years.
- 29:58SPEAKER_04: Five years.
- 29:59SPEAKER_04: I think I would I was gonna say seven.
- 30:02unknown: Maybe ten.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: Um I'm gonna say the appropriate number of years for a Christmas tree to reach its proper average height.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Three seasons.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: Three seasons.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: No, which is defined as three seasons.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Three seasons.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Phil.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Three growing seasons.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: No, no.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: God bless you, Phil.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Spring, summer, fall.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: I'll say three years.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: Three years.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, we should keep in mind, I don't know how accurate this website thought catalog is here.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Oh no, they're the best.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: They say they say 15 years.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: All their stuff is peer-reviewed.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Well, okay, so like at the beginning they start like from tiny tree, I think, yeah.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're talking about from the tree farm.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: Well, going out to the boonies to cut down his tree, man.
- 30:49unknown: Well, I gotta count the rings.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: Well, I gotta count the rings.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: You do you have a real tree in your house?
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Oh hell no.
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: I contend.
- 30:58SPEAKER_04: Are you kidding?
- 31:00SPEAKER_04: Oh geez, here he goes.
- 31:01SPEAKER_04: Here he goes.
- 31:02SPEAKER_04: I've already Christmas once this year.
- 31:03SPEAKER_04: One of my other Christmas piccadillos.
- 31:06SPEAKER_04: All the trees are real trees.
- 31:09unknown: Yeah, mine's a real fake tree.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, mine's a real fake tree.
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: All exists.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: Some of them used to be alive.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: But they're dead now because you cut it off.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: When they put them in water, it's fine.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: It's like putting it on hospice.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: I was thinking about this conversation because we've already had this once.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: Damon and I.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Uh the garden store has a sign-up right now that says artificial trees.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: The garden store.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: So they sell like quote unquote real trees.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: The one here in town by the like they don't Earl May?
- 31:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: They don't have the garden store.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: I didn't know if we were allowed to say the name of it or not.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: They're not a sponsor, it's fine.
- 31:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, they they sell they sell plastic trees there.
- 32:00unknown: Oh.
- 32:01SPEAKER_04: That's where I got mine, actually.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: After Christmas one year when it was on sale.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: So just briefly, none of us have a used-to-be living tree in our house.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: I do not.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Have you ever taken care of a used-to-be-living tree?
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you do it once, and you can do it.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: My mom used to swear by it until she also went to the garden store in the last three years.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: Spent a lot of money on a tree, and now she loves her.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: We have the stand or whatever that they go into, but sure.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: That's all.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: How do you say Merry Christmas in Hawaiian?
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: I I think I know.
- 32:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, wait.
- 32:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:37SPEAKER_04: Malakalikimaka.
- 32:38SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: Malikaliki Maka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: That's the island greeting that they spring to you from the land where palm trees sway.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: It's the swimming pool scene.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: How do you know that song?
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: Because there's a scene.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Well, we just got cop.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: We don't need to discuss the scene.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: We just got copyrighted strike.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: It's fine.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: Which popular holiday plant is known to be an aphrodisiac?
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, what was the question?
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: Roll for constitution.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: What popular holiday plant is known to be an aphrodisiac?
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: See, now you're all gonna be wishing you had those trees in your house.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: This is a Christmas holiday plant?
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's all Christmas treaty, so yes.
- 33:28SPEAKER_04: Well, there's only so many Christmas holiday plants.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: What Christmas holiday plant do you think?
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: None of them.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: They're mostly I thought they were pretty much all poisonous.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: Like poinsettias are hazardous to cats and dogs.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: Uh the one that mistletoe is also poisonous as well.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: Is my understanding.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Uh cranberries.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: I have one.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: I don't even remember what it's called.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Christmas cactus?
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: No.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: Well, clearly Brett is not taking advantage of its properties.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: What wrong Christmas balls.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Christmas bulb.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Bulb.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: No, bulb, bulb, a bulb wouldn't be my bad.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: Wrong word.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, sorry.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: What was it again?
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: Christmas bulb.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: We're talking about what?
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: Christmas Christmas.
- 34:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it says Christmas plant.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: I think you mean to say Christmas bulb.
- 34:25SPEAKER_04: Okay, okay.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm I'm gonna say Amaryllis.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: That's what it's called.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Is it an amoryllis?
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: No, it's amaryllis.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: It's not.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: I think it's a flower, right?
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: What does the trivia side say the answer is?
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: It says it's mistletoe, but I also thought that was poisonous.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: Look at look at is mistletoe poisonous.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: Maybe the aphrodisiac is not that you've got you could just have to smell it.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: You've gotten close to it.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: I guess that would make sense because you're supposed to kiss under it.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: I guess it's societal.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: It's a pressure that society.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: Did you see the mistletoe hanging upstairs when you walked in?
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: I did not.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: I did not.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Just don't stand under next to one of us.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: Uh mistletoe is poisonous, although it is doubtful as to whether it will actually cause death.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's worth a kiss in my mind.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Why not?
- 35:09SPEAKER_05: What the hell?
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: What the hell?
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: That's a bad question.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: What are two of the most popular names for Santa Claus that are not Santa?
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Not Santa.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: Saint Nick.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: Saint Nick is one.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: Kris Kringle's got to be a good one.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Yes, that is correct.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: How many ghosts?
- 35:30SPEAKER_04: I like that we've turned this into a team game.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: That's fine.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Us against Ross.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: I'm the DM.
- 35:37SPEAKER_02: It's never me against you.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: We're winning.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Always.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I got licked.
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: Scared the crap out of you.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: All those Christmas balls.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: The dungeon dog.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: In Home Alone, where are the McAllisters going on vacation when they leave Kevin behind?
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Paris, right?
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: They are going to Paris.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: The McAllisters.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: But yeah, because they're loaded.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: But what do you think?
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: They probably got a Black Friday deal on this.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: I want to know what he did that he could take their whole family, plus his brother and their family, to Paris.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: And live in that house.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: And live in that house.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: Probably work for Goldman's house.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: They're both attorneys.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: Are they really, you think?
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: Can you look that up?
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: What were what we're doing?
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: Does it ever sell it?
- 36:24SPEAKER_04: I don't think it does, but they're both.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a both well-paid professionals.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: We're gonna check that out and bring it back to you uh after the break.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Just kidding, there's no break.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: Uh name the animal from my cassette blank.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: When am I gonna get more beer?
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: Right now.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: You don't have to wait.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: It's right here.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: I need some more carol.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Again, Aphrodisia.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: It puts the McAllisters in the top 1% of Chicago area earners, just based on like where they live and what they're able to do.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it never actually reveals what they do.
- 36:54unknown: I didn't think so.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: I didn't think so.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: All right, what's this question about a uh uh yeah?
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Name the animatronic cassette playing bear toy that every kid wants for the Christian in the mid-1990s.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: I don't even finish the question.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna finish the question, Damon.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: What is it?
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: Teddy Ruxpin.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Yes, that is correct.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: In what year?
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: It just says the 80s.
- 37:13SPEAKER_04: Oh, it wasn't born yet.
- 37:15SPEAKER_04: Teddy Ruxpin.
- 37:16SPEAKER_04: And yes, I had a Teddy Ruxpin.
- 37:18SPEAKER_04: And yes, that's how old he is.
- 37:20SPEAKER_04: I also had his caterpillar friend whose name I don't remember.
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: He had a friend?
- 37:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, who was a caterpillar?
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: If anyone knows the caterpillar's name, let us know.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: What is this thing?
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Don't look at it.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: Take it.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: If you're listening to this, look up Teddy Ruxpin.
- 37:36SPEAKER_04: Did it help me learn how to read?
- 37:37SPEAKER_04: No, I don't really think so.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: These things are terrifying.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: That was great.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: Did you guys ever have a cabbage?
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: I still have mine.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: His name is Double.
- 37:47unknown: I'll bring him sometime.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: I'll bring him sometime.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: We'll take pictures with him in pose.
- 37:51SPEAKER_02: Did you ever have shirt tails characters?
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Shirt.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: I remember Shirt Tails vaguely.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: I feel like I'm in the slightly in-between because I had older siblings, so I like can relate to Damon stuff, but I'm your guys' age, like slightly older than you guys.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: So it's like that's weird.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: Because like I know the 80s got like G.I.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: Joe and and um let's see what else.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: The tri original Transformer.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: We've talked about this before.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: Johnny Quest.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: This has become a very nostalgic movie.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: It has.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's what Christmas time's good for, right?
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: Uh next question.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: The movie Miracle on 34th Street is based on a real life department store.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: Which one?
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: Macy's.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: Macy's.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: Boom.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Also one of my wife's favorite movies.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: What U.S.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: state was the first to declare Christmas an official holiday?
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: Vermont.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: New York.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: One in fifty chance.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: I haven't thought about it.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: Odds are still a little long there.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: Definitely thinking New England.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Has to be.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: Massive.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's gotta be in New England.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: Well, I can tell you you're all incorrect.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I'm definitely thinking West.
- 38:55SPEAKER_04: Idaho.
- 38:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you didn't let us think it through.
- 38:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, sorry.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: Ross.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: Which is the most uh similar role.
- 39:03SPEAKER_04: Weirdly religious state.
- 39:05SPEAKER_04: Nobody never mind.
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: Missouri.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: Close, but no.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 39:10unknown: Yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_04: What is it then?
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the place.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Actually, it kind of makes sense when you think about it, because it's like a super, it's a it's a very Christian holiday, so it seems likely that it would be a more Republican state.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: I don't know when this happened, it doesn't say, but I could see that why that might be the case.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: But I don't know.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: Um whose eyes are all aglow in the Christmas song.
- 39:35SPEAKER_04: Uh, which is Chestnuts Roasting on an open fire.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: That's the Christmas song.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: Chestnuts roasting.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: Carolers.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: Yuletide Carolers with their eyes all aglow.
- 39:44SPEAKER_04: Somebody's the somebody's heart's all aglow.
- 39:46SPEAKER_04: Who is it?
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: Jack Frost nipping at your nose.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Keep going.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Yuletide Carol.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: Carol's being sung by a choir.
- 39:54SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 39:54SPEAKER_02: And folks dressed up.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Dressed up like Eskimo.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: Everybody knows.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: Everybody knows some some mistletoe.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: Damon is very subtly trying to hurry me along.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: Help to make the season bright.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: There it is.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: It's right.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: It's next.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: You skipped a piece here.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: It's not.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: Help to make the season.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: It's time to get away.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: People are yelling at Tiny Tots.
- 40:23SPEAKER_04: It's the only part of the Tyson.
- 40:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, but they'll find it hard to sleep tonight.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Find it hard to sleep, Junior.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: Anybody listening to this was just yelling at his performance.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: On with it, let's go.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: No, they're yelling at Tiny Tots.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: Probably both, let's be real.
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer started off as a marketing gimmick.
- 40:45SPEAKER_02: I actually heard this on the radio the other day.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: For what store?
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: Wasn't Macy's.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: What I heard on the radio was uh they actually wrote the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer song as part of this marketing campaign.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: It's always old department stores.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: Yes, it is.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: And there used to be one in Hastings, actually.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Not that that's gonna happen.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: JCPenney?
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: Well, there was a JCPenney.
- 41:12SPEAKER_04: This would have been long, long Drury's or uh uh what's the Piggly Wiggly's or uh Piggly Wiggly.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: There was a Woolworth store in Hastings, but not that is not what this one is.
- 41:28SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna think of it.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: It is Montgomery Ward.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Monkey Wards.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Monkey Wards, that's what my dad calls it.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: Do they still exist?
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: Uh according to legend, what holiday goodies were shaped to resemble a shepherd's staff?
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: Candy canes.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's an easy one.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: Shouldn't have done that.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, we need the points.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: How many points do we have?
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: Uh you you have approximately 25 points for the 25 uh the 25.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: What's our goal?
- 41:57SPEAKER_02: It's like you know, it's the points to points to add up, don't matter, you know, all that all that jazz.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: So okay, we're gonna wrap it up here pretty quick.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: Uh let's do one last question, though.
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: In the classic Christmas movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Grinch was described with three words.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: What were they?
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: Stink, stink, stink, crack.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: Stunk bum.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: That that is correct.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say green.
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's a mean one.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: He's a mean one.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: You're a mean one, Mr.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: Grin.
- 42:27SPEAKER_04: Who sang the original Robert Gooley?
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: No.
- 42:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, it was that guy who's from Nebraska.
- 42:31SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Tiger Ravenscroft or something.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: Close, thorough Ravenscroft.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: Tiger Ravenscroft.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Say it starts with the same.
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: So Tiger Woods changes his name.
- 42:42SPEAKER_04: He was also the voice of the Jolly Green Giant and the original Tony the Tiger.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: I think I knew the Tony the Tiger one.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: He's the voice of several like Disneyland characters still to this day.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: Like in like Pirates of the Caribbean Ride and stuff like that.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: So uh Phil, do you want to talk about our gift to all the players out there who are listening?
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: For all of you listening, our gift to you this year.
