- 0:00Speaker 1: So Mark Silman now nine.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Till noon weekdays on seven W.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Well the best columnist in America, Michael Goodwin every Sunday,
- 0:14Speaker 1: every Wednesday in the New York Post. And get all
- 0:16Speaker 1: his columns. They're all up on the New York Post website.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Michael Goodwin, how are you, good morning, Mark? Thank you.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I loved yesterday's column. Kathy Hochel, what is she pretending
- 0:29Speaker 1: to be moderate? She's pretending to be this? What is
- 0:31Speaker 1: she really? Do you think? Deep down?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Well, she's also she revealed in an interview with The
- 0:38Speaker 2: New York Times, she's like mom, Donny's mother, counseling him.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You know, don't do this, speak this way, you know,
- 0:49Speaker 2: do this, don't do that. I think that for me,
- 0:55Speaker 2: this is the final sign. Of course, she greenlighted theaters
- 1:01Speaker 2: or tax and funneled a lot of state money to
- 1:05Speaker 2: the city. But this, to me is a clear linkage
- 1:10Speaker 2: that I believe Bruce Blakeman, the Republican opponent, really should
- 1:16Speaker 2: be running against Mom Donnie as much as Hoko, because
- 1:20Speaker 2: they are so closely connected now that there's no separation,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and I think that's something he to alert state taxpayers
- 1:31Speaker 2: to and to the city taxpayers. As well.
- 1:35Speaker 1: So Blakeman's a strong candidate. She's in a very, very
- 1:39Speaker 1: tough race. Is that why she's trying to get so
- 1:42Speaker 1: close to Mom Donnay, she feels she can't win unless
- 1:45Speaker 1: his voters back her.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yes, I mean, I think, you know, Mark, just a
- 1:51Speaker 2: short history view that Republicans need to get somewhere around
- 1:59Speaker 2: thirty five percent of the vote in New York City
- 2:04Speaker 2: in order to win statewide. They will Republican candidates will
- 2:08Speaker 2: win many counties up state, but the real population centers,
- 2:14Speaker 2: such as the city, they're close in suburbs Buffalo, for example,
- 2:20Speaker 2: So the Republicans only get a fraction of that vote,
- 2:25Speaker 2: maybe twenty five thirty percent. If they can get thirty
- 2:30Speaker 2: five percent, let's say in New York City, he would
- 2:33Speaker 2: Blakeman will probably win the election. So that's why I
- 2:38Speaker 2: think that the city is unpopular in much of the state. Right,
- 2:44Speaker 2: the city's politics are to the left of much of
- 2:48Speaker 2: the state. And so that's why I think that Blaateman
- 2:53Speaker 2: needs to make Mandani, you know, a central figure in
- 2:57Speaker 2: his campaign against Loco, because if not, this state is
- 3:02Speaker 2: going to become more like a city with eacht sixteen
- 3:07Speaker 2: out of the biker. And that's where I think Blakeman
- 3:10Speaker 2: has an opportunity to warn the rest of the state
- 3:14Speaker 2: that you're going to get a Mom Donny in your
- 3:17Speaker 2: town if you're not careful, and if you reelect Hockel.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Well, have you noticed hoche is running. She's got a
- 3:23Speaker 1: ton of money. She's running TV commercials all over the
- 3:26Speaker 1: place tying Blakeman so closely to Donald Trump, saying he's
- 3:30Speaker 1: the MAGA candidate, and they shows him hugging Trump And
- 3:34Speaker 1: is that going to hurt him? I don't really think
- 3:36Speaker 1: it'll hurt him that much, will it.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It could. I mean in certain areas, I think that,
- 3:42Speaker 2: you know, Trump, for example, in twenty twenty four, the
- 3:47Speaker 2: state New York State moved to red from blue to red,
- 3:52Speaker 2: further than any other state in the country, but still
- 3:56Speaker 2: Trump only got forty or just about forty four percent
- 4:01Speaker 2: stay wide. He got thirty percent into five Burroughs, but
- 4:07Speaker 2: forty four percent is impressive compared to what it was,
- 4:12Speaker 2: but it's not nearly enough. So I do think that
- 4:16Speaker 2: Blakeman is going to have to you know, if Trump
- 4:22Speaker 2: is a problem for Blakeman, then I think Blakeman has
- 4:25Speaker 2: to make Mom Donnie's yeah, a problem for a local.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely. Hey, one thing about mom, Donnie. We're talking
- 4:33Speaker 1: to Michael Goodwin. I'm starting not to worry about him
- 4:36Speaker 1: very much because it's all talk. He never gets anything done.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You'll never live to see these grocery stores. Even he's
- 4:43Speaker 1: talking about now we've got to fix the BQE. It's very,
- 4:46Speaker 1: very bad. It's got to be fixed. He said. The
- 4:48Speaker 1: construction's start in twenty and thirty and takes ten years.
- 4:53Speaker 1: He never gets anything, does he. I mean, do we
- 4:56Speaker 1: really have to worry that much?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Well, I think that's basically right. Mark that he has
- 5:03Speaker 2: not been successful, for example, and you know, pulling back
- 5:08Speaker 2: the police that stuff like that. But I do think
- 5:13Speaker 2: that his goals are from the most point really poisonous.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So these grocery stores, for example, free uh free bus right,
- 5:25Speaker 2: The MTA says, just the talk of free buses is
- 5:30Speaker 2: encouraging more people to evade the fair So it's already
- 5:36Speaker 2: having an impact. And I think that you know, he's
- 5:41Speaker 2: spending is out of control, and so that's going to
- 5:45Speaker 2: drive up the cost of government, the need for taxes.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I mean, what happened to the city has another fiscal crisis,
- 5:55Speaker 2: So I do think there is danger in his administration.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I mean, it's an odd thing. You're right though if
- 6:04Speaker 2: he succeeds, it's even worse. But the mere fact of
- 6:08Speaker 2: what he wants to do not to scare a lot
- 6:11Speaker 2: of people straight.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, So hey, this scheme of has closed Rikers Island,
- 6:18Speaker 1: opened five prisons around the city. Again he gets nothing done,
- 6:23Speaker 1: but it's a crazy scheme. It makes no sense to
- 6:26Speaker 1: close Rikers Island, does it?
- 6:28Speaker 2: No? And then the idea is you would have to
- 6:32Speaker 2: replace it with a jail in each borough. Now, name
- 6:39Speaker 2: the neighborhood wants to jail next door. I mean it's
- 6:44Speaker 2: one of those things that be preposterously expensive and disruptive
- 6:50Speaker 2: and unpopular. So yeah, charge have had a big guy,
- 6:55Speaker 2: but you're not. That's not a winning formula and it's
- 6:59Speaker 2: not a winning for me for public safety. I mean,
- 7:02Speaker 2: you basically have to be records and most of these
- 7:07Speaker 2: five new jails will not hold violent criminals, So what
- 7:13Speaker 2: do you do with a violent criminals? So it's a
- 7:17Speaker 2: silly idea, but it's one of those leftist things like
- 7:21Speaker 2: free rent and everything else that disrupts and causes a
- 7:26Speaker 2: lot of fear and noise. So even if he doesn't
- 7:30Speaker 2: get it done, I think it's still upseting, and it
- 7:33Speaker 2: still gives the city a kind of negative vibe that
- 7:37Speaker 2: I think will not be good for the city's economic future.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, the good news is if it's going to
- 7:44Speaker 1: take him five years to build a tiny grocery store,
- 7:47Speaker 1: that that sixteen story jail he's proposing in change, that'll
- 7:51Speaker 1: take him fifty years.
- 7:52Speaker 2: So you'll hope if we're lucky.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, Michael Goodwin, great stuff. Everybody can you can
- 7:59Speaker 1: read my Goodwin's Sunday column and it's every Sunday and
- 8:03Speaker 1: every Wednesday, and all his columns are up on the
- 8:06Speaker 1: on the New York Post website. Michael Goodwin, thanks for
- 8:09Speaker 1: being with us.
- 8:10Speaker 2: My pleasure, Mark, thank you.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Take care. Yeah, it's a good thing about mom, Donnie.
- 8:15Speaker 1: He gets nothing done. The grocery store. It's a little, tiny, nothing,
- 8:19Speaker 1: little little grocery story. Something about three years, four years
- 8:23Speaker 1: to build this thing. So his sixteen story jail figure
- 8:26Speaker 1: fifty years minimum. He'll never get it done. You know
- 8:30Speaker 1: one thing about Trump when he says he's gonna build something,
- 8:33Speaker 1: Remember said he was gonna build something in the Rose Garden.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Like a week later, it's there, decides he's gonna build
- 8:39Speaker 1: that heliport. Two days later it's there. The ballroom decides
- 8:45Speaker 1: he's gonna build a ball or the next day they've
- 8:46Speaker 1: got a hole in the ground. The next day they've
- 8:48Speaker 1: got girders going. I mean it's fast. Things get done fast.
- 8:52Speaker 1: The good thing about mom Donnie, nothing ever gets done.
- 8:55Speaker 1: He can rush out those TikTok videos, producing TikTok videos
- 9:00Speaker 1: efficient building something. Forget it, You'll never ever ever live
- 9:04Speaker 1: to see it. Hey, I don't forget. I don't forget.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm here nine to noon every day. It's now a
- 9:09Speaker 1: three hour show. Yeah, we start at nine am every day,
- 9:13Speaker 1: So this show is now nine am to noon. Then
- 9:16Speaker 1: at noon Buck Sexton and Klay Travis. You get two
- 9:19Speaker 1: hosts for the price of one and twice as much
- 9:22Speaker 1: information going on. Then at three o'clock you got the
- 9:25Speaker 1: most listened to radio show in America Sean Hannity. At three,
- 9:30Speaker 1: you got Jesse Kelly at six, and then Jimmy Fayla.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It does a really funny, interesting show. It's every night.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's nine to midnight. Here on seven to ten. WR
