- 0:09Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, welcome, welcome, welcome. Media's
- 0:11Speaker 1: time now for one on one with Broms. But it's
- 0:13Speaker 1: two on one today. We've got our friends from Truity
- 0:16Speaker 1: Credit Union here today we have Amanda and Eric with
- 0:19Speaker 1: is how you doing?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Can good?
- 0:21Speaker 3: Thanks for having us well.
- 0:23Speaker 1: First things first, Trudy Credit Union, great partnership here and
- 0:26Speaker 1: down with many many people. Got the beautiful location downtown
- 0:30Speaker 1: and the beautiful location out there on Washington that is
- 0:34Speaker 1: really something else. You guys have got that big mural
- 0:37Speaker 1: going on downtown and then the downtown or the one
- 0:41Speaker 1: just south that's kind of like brand new. I mean,
- 0:44Speaker 1: it's been a while, but you guys give it a
- 0:45Speaker 1: little bit of a facelift.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Looks pretty cool.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And first things first, let's get to business scams.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Boy, might as well just open up with a wild one.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Huh My goodness sake, how prevalent are these Its huge?
- 1:00Speaker 4: Unfortunately, our scammers are always looking for the opportunity to
- 1:05Speaker 4: take advantage of our members. So it's an everyday thing
- 1:08Speaker 4: that we see at preind of Union.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Well mctially around the holidays.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Oh I imagine.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So, but I understand that your top person there, your
- 1:16Speaker 1: CEO here is actually a tech person, and I understand
- 1:21Speaker 1: that tech is a lot of what it's all about
- 1:25Speaker 1: as far as being safe and being in very good
- 1:27Speaker 1: hands because you guys.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Are like cutting edge on protection.
- 1:31Speaker 1: We try to mean, boy, yeah my goodness thinks you know,
- 1:35Speaker 1: you have to have that secure web address.
- 1:38Speaker 2: If you don't have that, you're in troubles.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean really, what we want our members to
- 1:43Speaker 4: know is that we're happy to educate you for things
- 1:47Speaker 4: that you may or may not know. So looking out
- 1:49Speaker 4: for scams are going to be you know, am I
- 1:51Speaker 4: honest secure address? You know that tried and true? Is
- 1:53Speaker 4: it HTTPS? Does it have that lock icon? That's a
- 1:58Speaker 4: big deal when you're online shop this time of year,
- 2:01Speaker 4: and then there's just lots of other opportunities that our
- 2:04Speaker 4: members have people out there trying to take advantage of them.
- 2:07Speaker 4: So you know, whether it's you know, is someone looking
- 2:11Speaker 4: for love online and they're you know, taking advantage of you.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Are they you know, trying to get you to buy
- 2:18Speaker 4: gift cards and then give them the information over the
- 2:20Speaker 4: phone or buy email? Those are all big red flags
- 2:25Speaker 4: when you're interacting online and people don't want to go
- 2:28Speaker 4: through a secure payment channel, and anytime that you authorize
- 2:32Speaker 4: and you give someone money or card information willingly, unfortunately,
- 2:37Speaker 4: that's going to be a loss for you.
- 2:38Speaker 1: If you haven't bought a lottery ticket, chances are you
- 2:40Speaker 1: haven't won the lottery.
- 2:41Speaker 2: So watch out for that one.
- 2:42Speaker 5: Correct, Yes, that's the number one. I won this And
- 2:45Speaker 5: it's like, did you enter that contest? No, it's probably
- 2:49Speaker 5: a scam.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Oh, you got to watch out that too. And also
- 2:52Speaker 1: when people say, you know, why don't you give it
- 2:56Speaker 1: to me in gift cards? Like you mentioned earlier, it
- 2:58Speaker 1: was runraceable and you know, darn let aget scammed there.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So educating your members pretty good thing. Maybeah, sure you're
- 3:05Speaker 1: in good hands. Also develops good trust with everybody going
- 3:08Speaker 1: on here. Speaking of education, the credit union has financial counseling.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But that's wonderful because I'm telling you there are a
- 3:16Speaker 1: lot of adults out there.
- 3:17Speaker 2: They don't have a good financial IQB. You know what
- 3:18Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Well, I mean if you don't get that education somewhere,
- 3:22Speaker 5: you're not going to get it. So it is something
- 3:24Speaker 5: newer to the credit union. We rolled it out earlier
- 3:27Speaker 5: this year, and so it's free to all of our
- 3:30Speaker 5: credit union members. We have certified financial counselors that have
- 3:34Speaker 5: gone through a twelve week course. It's quite a they
- 3:38Speaker 5: stuff a lot into that course in that twelve weeks
- 3:41Speaker 5: and then to get certified, they do have to take
- 3:43Speaker 5: a proctered exam and get a passing great on that
- 3:47Speaker 5: in order to be certified, and then they'll be certified
- 3:49Speaker 5: for three years.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And so members can come in.
- 3:52Speaker 5: We've broken it up to basically a six week program
- 3:56Speaker 5: in that we have an.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Intake form, a budget form.
- 4:00Speaker 5: We kind of dive into their situation as well as
- 4:03Speaker 5: some educational parts on that because we work with a
- 4:05Speaker 5: company balance that has basically just the wealth of knowledge
- 4:08Speaker 5: and financial education that's free to our members as well
- 4:11Speaker 5: because we cover that cost for them.
- 4:13Speaker 3: But then we've got like.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Pre recorded materials, live materials, you know, webinars, seminars, handouts
- 4:20Speaker 5: we can give out on that, and so we really
- 4:22Speaker 5: try to educate as well as get you know, their
- 4:25Speaker 5: situation because we kind of break it out into is
- 4:28Speaker 5: it credit building, is it that consolidation, or.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Is it budgeting.
- 4:31Speaker 5: We want to have the counseling on or a variety
- 4:34Speaker 5: of those, and so we kind of move that direction
- 4:37Speaker 5: once we have that with them to really impact their
- 4:40Speaker 5: life as well as their future going forward with the
- 4:42Speaker 5: education they've gathered.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Well, so far we have covered the fact that you're
- 4:46Speaker 1: out to care for your people now and to educate
- 4:48Speaker 1: them too. So you've got concern and you've got education
- 4:52Speaker 1: going for you.
- 4:53Speaker 2: But it doesn't stop there with the youth. Do you
- 4:55Speaker 2: even have a little thing going on.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Too, Yeah, absolutely, So we've also introduced green Light debit
- 5:02Speaker 4: cards for our kids and our youth members. So if
- 5:05Speaker 4: you're a Truity member, your green Light subscription is actually free.
- 5:09Speaker 4: So not only is our focus on, like Eric said,
- 5:12Speaker 4: helping our members, but that education has to start somewhere,
- 5:16Speaker 4: and so what better opportunity than to start teaching our
- 5:19Speaker 4: kids at a young age not only how to manage
- 5:21Speaker 4: a debit card, but also how to manage a budget.
- 5:24Speaker 4: So the green Light app allows you to, you know,
- 5:27Speaker 4: reward your kids with like an allowance. You can set
- 5:31Speaker 4: up different goals and as they reach those goals, you
- 5:34Speaker 4: reward them by putting money on that debit card. So
- 5:38Speaker 4: it's really a great opportunity for our kids. My kid
- 5:41Speaker 4: has one, I think your daughter has one.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Hey, can I have this job to get money? Or
- 5:46Speaker 3: you know, can I get more?
- 5:48Speaker 5: You know, and then of course she loves using the
- 5:49Speaker 5: debit card and she can create her own savings accounts,
- 5:52Speaker 5: so you know, it kind of gets some involved there.
- 5:55Speaker 5: And there's even some like educational tools within green Light
- 5:58Speaker 5: that they can play games and stuff.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Well that's great.
- 6:01Speaker 3: I mean, don't learn without even realizing that.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Oh that's the part. The kids will go, hey, I
- 6:06Speaker 2: see what you did there. They catch on to it.
- 6:08Speaker 1: A little bit later on, but while they're having fun
- 6:10Speaker 1: and learning at the same time, you don't question it
- 6:12Speaker 1: too much. Right, that's great. Now you've got this thing
- 6:17Speaker 1: that's called name It, Save It and save it for good.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Tell us a little bit about that.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Yeah, So, like we said, educating in savings and stuff,
- 6:25Speaker 5: we do have some savings products at the Credit Union
- 6:28Speaker 5: that are really great. We have a consumer product and
- 6:31Speaker 5: a commercial product. So our consumer one has been out.
- 6:34Speaker 3: For a little bit. It's our name It Save It account.
- 6:36Speaker 5: The nice thing about this account is you can contribute
- 6:39Speaker 5: to it as often as you want. It has a
- 6:41Speaker 5: higher rate, so it's usually right right now it's floating
- 6:45Speaker 5: around four percent apy and then you get four free
- 6:48Speaker 5: with draws out of that account. As well throughout the
- 6:51Speaker 5: rolling twelve months, so you're not penalized like you would
- 6:54Speaker 5: be with.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Like a certificate of deposit.
- 6:57Speaker 5: And so it's a great way to save for vacations,
- 7:00Speaker 5: rips Christmas is.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Another good one.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of coming up.
- 7:05Speaker 5: And then our Safe for Good is kind of on
- 7:07Speaker 5: that commercial side, and this is a newer and a
- 7:09Speaker 5: little unique because it's only for our nonprofits. Realizing how
- 7:13Speaker 5: great our nonprofits are and want to help them out.
- 7:15Speaker 5: We actually right now, I just look this morning. It's
- 7:18Speaker 5: offering four and a half percent and that as long
- 7:21Speaker 5: as you're a nonprofit you can have that. You can
- 7:24Speaker 5: contribute up to one hundred thousand dollars in there. You
- 7:26Speaker 5: get the four free withdraws. So as long as you're
- 7:29Speaker 5: a five oh one C three, that's something you can have.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Talk to our commercial department and you know, it's a
- 7:34Speaker 5: great way, especially if you're doing any type of capital
- 7:36Speaker 5: campaign or something. Stick it in there and make your
- 7:39Speaker 5: money work for you.
- 7:40Speaker 2: That's cool when your money works for you, because the
- 7:42Speaker 2: Lord knows you work hard for your money.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Absolutely, boy, that it is really cool.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Thanks Trudy for just you know, showing us around a
- 7:48Speaker 1: little bit and then you can make things a little
- 7:50Speaker 1: bit easier on us here. Now we've got some fun
- 7:53Speaker 1: coming up here. December is just a door knock away.
- 7:55Speaker 1: It's like we have a Johnny apple Seed night at
- 7:58Speaker 1: the ice rinks.
- 8:00Speaker 2: That all about.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Yeah, So our Johnny apple Seed is our again our
- 8:04Speaker 4: youth savings. So if you're thirteen or under, you're qualified
- 8:08Speaker 4: to have that special savings account, whether you're a member
- 8:13Speaker 4: or not. We're actually going to rent out the ice
- 8:16Speaker 4: rink on Monday, December sixteenth from five point thirty to
- 8:19Speaker 4: seven and so bring your kids out, let them skate.
- 8:22Speaker 4: We'll also have people there to answer questions about if
- 8:25Speaker 4: you're interested in open a savings account, we'll be happy
- 8:27Speaker 4: to take your information and follow up with you to
- 8:29Speaker 4: help you get that account opened. So that's going to
- 8:32Speaker 4: be obviously down at Christmas in the bill over in
- 8:34Speaker 4: front of the chamber.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Well there you go. I want to go back to
- 8:37Speaker 1: the counseling education here, that new.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Service that you have here.
- 8:41Speaker 1: This is great now we're talking about it's free for
- 8:44Speaker 1: Truity members. But you talk about counseling on budgeting, debt consolidation,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and credit building. Can we go into those things about
- 8:52Speaker 1: debt consolidation and credit building goes work.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Hand in hand.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Absolutely, So obviously debt consolidation. If somebody comes in and
- 9:00Speaker 5: you know they're having trouble making ends need or they've
- 9:02Speaker 5: got a high interest rate on something they're just not seeing,
- 9:05Speaker 5: you know, that balance on that credit card going.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Down, that's something we could look at.
- 9:08Speaker 5: You know what a lot of people don't realize is
- 9:10Speaker 5: that best rate on those major cards you hear out
- 9:13Speaker 5: there is higher than our worst rate that we could offer.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Being a credit union, we're not in that business of
- 9:18Speaker 5: making the money like major credit card companies, So we
- 9:21Speaker 5: can a lot of times do a balance transfer, move
- 9:24Speaker 5: that balance from a high interest card to our low card.
- 9:28Speaker 5: They can pay it all there, It would be less
- 9:30Speaker 5: for them to pay. They pay it off sooner, more
- 9:32Speaker 5: money stays in their pockets.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Or if it's a couple auto.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Loans, credit cards, other loans, we might be able to
- 9:38Speaker 5: roll that into an auto loan, save the member money
- 9:41Speaker 5: on interest. Just make it easier, is instead of paying
- 9:44Speaker 5: four or five different people, they can maybe consolidate it
- 9:46Speaker 5: to one or two easily digestible payments for themselves.
- 9:50Speaker 2: My goodness sakes, you really are there to help.
- 9:53Speaker 3: That is something we try.
- 9:54Speaker 1: You know, if you get a credit card offer from
- 9:58Speaker 1: the big companies, you'll see that it's almost what used
- 10:02Speaker 1: to be called a usury rate. And there are folks
- 10:05Speaker 1: who are wondering how do they even get away with that? Yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 1: but it's out of hand these days. But if you
- 10:11Speaker 1: trust a good partners like Truity, you're going to be
- 10:13Speaker 1: in the ballpark and yes, doing real well.
- 10:16Speaker 5: That's what we want people to understand is go see
- 10:19Speaker 5: somebody who's a professional, reputable institution to get your questions answered.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Your rates when you get those in the mail, those
- 10:27Speaker 4: are anywhere from probably twenty four to thirty two percent
- 10:30Speaker 4: last time I looked at them. The maximum rate the
- 10:33Speaker 4: credit union will offers eighteen percent. So our rates right
- 10:36Speaker 4: now are somewhere between I think a little over fourteen
- 10:39Speaker 4: to eighteen percent, so you can see you're saving well
- 10:43Speaker 4: over ten percent or more. Our cards also have zero
- 10:47Speaker 4: percent for the first twelve months or if you're a
- 10:48Speaker 4: new card holder. So when Eric's talking about doing a
- 10:52Speaker 4: balance transfer consolidation, if you're going from thirty percent opening
- 10:56Speaker 4: a new card getting down to zero percent, you're going
- 10:58Speaker 4: to see that and start to decline where you probably
- 11:02Speaker 4: hadn't seen that balance.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Move for years on an old card.
- 11:06Speaker 4: We also have rewards on our cards, so if you're
- 11:08Speaker 4: using it, you're getting something for free. So yeah, it me, Yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 4: it pays you.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Well, well that's always a good thing. Yeah, that's always
- 11:16Speaker 2: a good thing. See, it's all these things that you
- 11:18Speaker 2: don't know till you ask. But Drudie's got it there.
- 11:21Speaker 2: You know something.
- 11:22Speaker 1: You guys have a great website too, because thank you.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I'm not a technology kind of guy. I mean, I
- 11:28Speaker 1: touched my first computer when I think I was forty.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That tells you how old I am. But it's easy
- 11:35Speaker 1: to navigate. Even a guy like me can get around
- 11:37Speaker 1: on that pretty good. You like to hear, and you know,
- 11:41Speaker 1: if you can even ask a question it, they'll take
- 11:44Speaker 1: you where you want to go.
- 11:45Speaker 2: It's like, thank you very much.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Yeah. They introduced chat video chat, so now if you
- 11:49Speaker 4: want a video chat with someone.
- 11:51Speaker 3: So you're right.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Our website's easy to use, but we're constantly adding to it,
- 11:55Speaker 4: trying to make sure that when our members want to
- 11:57Speaker 4: contact us, they have the easiest way and the manner
- 12:01Speaker 4: in which they want to communicate. So lots of different
- 12:04Speaker 4: options available.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Man, that is just incredible.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And of course being a credit union you mentioned earlier,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you're not in it. You're not there with these big
- 12:12Speaker 1: nationwide or international shareholders. Everybody who has an account with
- 12:16Speaker 1: Truity is part owners that.
- 12:19Speaker 3: They're a member. We don't have customers. We have members.
- 12:21Speaker 2: We have members. That's a big difference, it is.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and we're finally with rates coming back up. Eric
- 12:28Speaker 4: mentioned you know, four four and a half percent, so
- 12:30Speaker 4: people are finally starting to see as those rates come up,
- 12:33Speaker 4: we're putting money back in your account every month in
- 12:36Speaker 4: dividends and so you know, minimum of five dollars to open.
- 12:40Speaker 4: But then when you start building your savings account, you
- 12:41Speaker 4: see that savings grow.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Wow, just like that.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Huh, just like that.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Guys are killing me.
- 12:47Speaker 3: You're so good.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And if you ever have questions, folks, simply go to
- 12:52Speaker 1: the website or just to pop in, because I'm telling you,
- 12:55Speaker 1: the customer service representatives very knowledgeable. They'll help you out
- 12:59Speaker 1: with just about anything you need to know. And if
- 13:02Speaker 1: they don't know it off the top of their head,
- 13:04Speaker 1: you know what they know somebody who does, and you'll
- 13:07Speaker 1: be helped pretty darn quickly. That's one thing that I've
- 13:10Speaker 1: always liked about being a member of Trudy Credit Union.
- 13:14Speaker 1: You're not going to be out there going help. You know,
- 13:16Speaker 1: there's a lifeline there for you. You know, all you
- 13:18Speaker 1: got to do is just access that it's there. Yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: and talk about customer services, that's top nuts.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we want to be there for our members.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So yeah, and of course you know, being a member
- 13:30Speaker 1: has its benefits, as it always does, and especially with
- 13:33Speaker 1: your credit union. So once again, watch out for scams.
- 13:36Speaker 1: And if you're looking for financial counseling, we've got that
- 13:39Speaker 1: new service offered here.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Did you say it's a it's a twelve week course.
- 13:44Speaker 3: So that counselors go through a twelve week course.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Our typical session is broken out into six six weeks
- 13:49Speaker 5: for about an hour each time I see And then
- 13:52Speaker 5: if they I didn't mention, if they do want to
- 13:54Speaker 5: sign up, they can call in or they can just
- 13:55Speaker 5: go to our website and there's under the appointments they
- 13:58Speaker 5: can go to appointments and do findial counseling in their area.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Because we've got them in our Lawrence market or Bortlesville,
- 14:05Speaker 5: We'll be getting them into Houston and so they can
- 14:08Speaker 5: just book that appointment.
- 14:09Speaker 3: It'll go out to.
- 14:10Speaker 5: The consultant letting them know, hey, you've got an appointment
- 14:12Speaker 5: for financial counseling. They should reach out kind of let
- 14:15Speaker 5: them know what to bring to that first one, and
- 14:17Speaker 5: then they kind of start the process from there and
- 14:19Speaker 5: go through it.
- 14:20Speaker 1: But I tell you what, that's good for anybody of
- 14:22Speaker 1: any age because things do change, you know, basic common
- 14:25Speaker 1: sensus addition and subtraction, but sometimes you know, you get
- 14:29Speaker 1: a factor in there that you might not be aware of.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And education is always a good thing.
- 14:33Speaker 5: And as you mentioned credit earlier, credit is a very
- 14:38Speaker 5: tumultuous thing to understand and why it works and what
- 14:41Speaker 5: causes it to go up and down, and so we
- 14:42Speaker 5: can touch on a little bit of that too. But
- 14:44Speaker 5: you know a lot of people I've talked to just
- 14:46Speaker 5: have no idea how that works. And so when you
- 14:49Speaker 5: can give them that correct information versus what they've heard
- 14:52Speaker 5: over the years or seen on the internet, you know,
- 14:55Speaker 5: then they kind of put it together and you know,
- 14:57Speaker 5: now they've got that and their tool belt to help
- 15:00Speaker 5: and going forward financially.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And just remember, just because you saw it on social media,
- 15:03Speaker 1: dos it mean it's true?
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yes? Now, we go back to scam.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, I was just thinking that.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Amanda and Eric, thank you very much for being here
- 15:12Speaker 1: with us, here with the truity on our on one
- 15:15Speaker 1: of the pro Thanks for listening to one on one
- 15:20Speaker 1: with a professional paid presentation in fourteenth
