- 0:23Speaker 1: is in session.
- 0:24Speaker 2: The Beauty Court is well and truly in session. Chicks.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm so excited. Welcome to the show.
- 0:30Speaker 2: So excited to be here.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Please right, I like photoshop one of those big court wigs.
- 0:44Speaker 2: For it.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yeah, So we're here to chat because if you haven't
- 0:50Speaker 1: seen this incredible series Jilly is doing at the moment,
- 0:53Speaker 1: it's called Beauty Court is in session and we're breaking
- 0:56Speaker 1: down the beauty industry and girl matthing way to save
- 1:00Speaker 1: money and it's a real girlma exposing a few things,
- 1:04Speaker 1: bit spicy thing. But before we get into the episode,
- 1:08Speaker 1: we do like to start with our life lesson of
- 1:09Speaker 1: the week, Sojalie, do you want to kick us off?
- 1:12Speaker 3: I do my life lessons more of a quote really,
- 1:14Speaker 3: but I feel like it's been a life lesson this
- 1:16Speaker 3: week and it's that success is on the other side
- 1:19Speaker 3: of Cringe Mountain.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So true.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I feel like more often than not, we stop ourselves
- 1:24Speaker 3: from doing something because we think it's too embarrassing or
- 1:27Speaker 3: it's too cringe. But if you can push past it,
- 1:29Speaker 3: and I mean speaking from experience, success really is on
- 1:32Speaker 3: the other side of cringe mountain.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Chicks, what's the cringe mountain that you moved past this week?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Is that?
- 1:37Speaker 3: Honestly, I feel like just doing TikTok in general, so
- 1:41Speaker 3: many people look at it and they think, oh, it's
- 1:42Speaker 3: so cringey. But I've had the most amazing opportunities this week,
- 1:46Speaker 3: and I honestly feel like it was born from getting
- 1:48Speaker 3: over the mountain that.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Was a little bit cringe being TikTok and it was
- 1:52Speaker 2: worth it.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah. And our friend Jem also says this thing that
- 1:55Speaker 1: you'll never be judged by anyone doing better than.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I heard that this week. It is so true.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Ni.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you find a hater who thinks that they're doing
- 2:03Speaker 3: better than you or just so true.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So yeah, so so.
- 2:07Speaker 1: True, because and I just live by that too.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Yeah. And how often do you like scroll through TikTok
- 2:15Speaker 4: and you're just watching people and you're not even having
- 2:17Speaker 4: a second thought, You're not thinking like, oh, they had
- 2:19Speaker 4: to set their camera up and like, oh, they probably
- 2:21Speaker 4: fumble their words a few times and it's been cut
- 2:23Speaker 4: here and they're like, you're not thinking that. You're just
- 2:25Speaker 4: like smooth brain watching, So just.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Do it your best.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And I really would like us to pepper smooth brain
- 2:35Speaker 1: into it. We care a lot more.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I feel like the chicks would get around it.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Cringe is just to construct. We did an episode on it.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Oh no, it was a life lesson because I was
- 2:44Speaker 1: walking down a really popular road in Bundo and I
- 2:47Speaker 1: didn't realize my fly was down. I heard this and
- 2:50Speaker 1: I was wearing my green shandies and it was like,
- 2:52Speaker 1: March take it.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Yeah, there's been a lot of things.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's allays me.
- 3:01Speaker 1: It's never sou and it does piss me off if
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm honest. Like when I got my tits out for
- 3:07Speaker 1: a skin check. I think we did like a recap
- 3:09Speaker 1: last year, and I was like listing all the things
- 3:12Speaker 1: that I had done. It was like, went croutchless on
- 3:13Speaker 1: a walk, got tits out of skin check, and I
- 3:17Speaker 1: was like, I need to evaluate some things.
- 3:20Speaker 4: And I was like and so I was like, I
- 3:22Speaker 4: like it.
- 3:22Speaker 1: They're all good stories for the pod. Yeah, when are
- 3:25Speaker 1: you going to start contributing.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I fell at that event.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I've got that bling.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's not the same thing as having your coochie out
- 3:31Speaker 1: in bond eye.
- 3:32Speaker 4: It is when you throw a whole glass of champagne
- 3:34Speaker 4: on a poor girl wearing a silk dress. Anyway, anyway, okay,
- 3:40Speaker 4: so I want to your life lesson.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Of the week.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Okay. My life lesson of the week is a reminder
- 3:45Speaker 4: that before you go on holidays, make sure you call
- 3:48Speaker 4: your bank and let them know that you're going to
- 3:49Speaker 4: be traveling overseas and that you may be spending in
- 3:53Speaker 4: a foreign currency. Because I did this right, but I
- 3:58Speaker 4: still got flagged for spending in a foreign currency and
- 4:02Speaker 4: then my account got suspended because I didn't read the
- 4:05Speaker 4: text properly. Kill me dirty. And I thought that the
- 4:10Speaker 4: text said like we were at a bar by the way,
- 4:13Speaker 4: if you're wondering why. I was having some confusion reading
- 4:15Speaker 4: the text, and it was like respond yes, if you
- 4:19Speaker 4: authorize this transaction, or respond no. And I thought, you know,
- 4:23Speaker 4: sometimes it's like respond no if you don't need us
- 4:26Speaker 4: to do anything. I thought that's what it was saying.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And said, was this transaction you and you said no,
- 4:33Speaker 1: you can tell me that part.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I only realized yesterday.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Oh really, Look, we're gonna be honest. We were sideways.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I also left my card behind the bar and we
- 4:42Speaker 1: had to walk with shame there back the next morning,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and I was like, z card here. They were like yeah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and that's that cool.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 4: So that's a two pronged one. Remember to call your
- 4:50Speaker 4: bang beforehand.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And at the end of it.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Even if you do, it still might get flagged as
- 4:56Speaker 4: a suspicious transaction. So read the text properly.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Very good, good, very good. Okay, what your lifeless lesson is?
- 5:04Speaker 1: I feel like I'm on the pot. I've said as
- 5:06Speaker 1: well that I'll just like stop watching TV shows and
- 5:09Speaker 1: stop reading books if like they're not very good, and
- 5:11Speaker 1: like that's been a thing being like you don't have
- 5:13Speaker 1: to finish something if you're not enjoying it, which I
- 5:15Speaker 1: do think is tip. However, I stopped reading Iron Flame.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Do you read books? I do?
- 5:22Speaker 3: But I'm also like nonfiction okay, yeah, the one that's real.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Nonfiction sometimes that was the most relatable. Gotcha. I'm like,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I go between both, but I like just going to
- 5:44Speaker 1: a fantasy world where like nothing's real, and I'm like, okay,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I'm aw I'm like exhale.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Yeah, fairy wings and everything. Yeah, literally fairy.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Porn, and I'm good again. But I was reading Iron
- 5:57Speaker 1: Flame and I was like probably a little bit over
- 5:59Speaker 1: half and I was like, this isn't hitting, and so
- 6:02Speaker 1: I stopped reading to read a different book. And then
- 6:05Speaker 1: I was like, do you know what, I'll finish it
- 6:07Speaker 1: because everyone was like, oh second, I was feeling good,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and I was like and then anyway, I read one
- 6:12Speaker 1: chapter from where I was and I was in I
- 6:16Speaker 1: read the rest of the book for like in like
- 6:18Speaker 1: a day because it was so good that I was like, fuck,
- 6:21Speaker 1: sometimes you do just need to give things the chance
- 6:24Speaker 1: to get good, because I'm so glad I did finish
- 6:27Speaker 1: it and it really was a great ending, like it
- 6:30Speaker 1: was so good. Like I was with Sau and I
- 6:32Speaker 1: don't think we spoke for like five hours because I
- 6:34Speaker 1: was like, this is so good and Soul could hear
- 6:36Speaker 1: me reading going and I was like laughing.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I was crying.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I was like commentating, you know that, yes, just came
- 6:44Speaker 1: really good, that like maybe we should give things a chance.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Maybe if there's like the encouragement there, if people are
- 6:51Speaker 1: being like no.
- 6:51Speaker 4: If it's not going.
- 6:52Speaker 1: It's really good, like for shows, movies, TV shows, I said,
- 6:56Speaker 1: TV shows, books, Yeah, you know what I mean, all
- 6:59Speaker 1: the content.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's a good one.
- 7:01Speaker 1: But yeah, if you haven't finished Iron Flame, I highly
- 7:03Speaker 1: recommend no spoilers. But apparently this is what happens. Okay,
- 7:09Speaker 1: let's get into court, all right. So to bring the
- 7:16Speaker 1: chicks up to speed in case they haven't seen it yet,
- 7:20Speaker 1: you launched a series on socials called Beauty Court is
- 7:23Speaker 1: in Session and the first video got over seven hundred
- 7:26Speaker 1: and fifty thousand views.
- 7:28Speaker 4: So we're going to get.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Into the specific topics later, but can you tell us
- 7:31Speaker 1: what inspired you to start this series?
- 7:34Speaker 3: Yeah, so, I mean, obviously, we're in a cost of
- 7:36Speaker 3: living crisis in Australia at the moment, and I think
- 7:38Speaker 3: now more than ever, we're going into our supermarkets and
- 7:41Speaker 3: we're really having a look at cost per kilo, cost
- 7:44Speaker 3: per gram, cost per meal. But for whatever reason, we're
- 7:46Speaker 3: just not doing it with our beauty retailers. I think
- 7:49Speaker 3: so often we walk into the Sephoras and the Mechas
- 7:52Speaker 3: of the world and we see a price on a
- 7:53Speaker 3: shelf and we just accept it for what it is
- 7:56Speaker 3: without really delving deeper into is it actually work my money?
- 8:01Speaker 3: And that's really where that series was born from. Was
- 8:03Speaker 3: I suppose bringing awareness to the consumers and inspiring people
- 8:07Speaker 3: to actually go into these retailers and check for yourself.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think that's such a valid point because we will
- 8:14Speaker 1: be looking at, you know, the supermarket price tag and
- 8:20Speaker 1: like looking at that being like, what's the unit pricing? Yeah,
- 8:23Speaker 1: but one I would love to see the unit pricing
- 8:25Speaker 1: in beauty stores too.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Can you imagine cost per gram on a setting powder?
- 8:30Speaker 1: I would die, we stop shopping.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Well, that would be very exposing for me.
- 8:36Speaker 1: The thing is, we don't get that because we would
- 8:38Speaker 1: probably not spend the money one hundred percent on what
- 8:41Speaker 1: we'd be spending our money on.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and interestingly, they don't actually advertise it on a
- 8:45Speaker 3: lot of the websites as well. Really, yeah, if you
- 8:47Speaker 3: go into Macri, you go into Sephora. Unless you're actually
- 8:50Speaker 3: zooming in on the photo of the foundation and it's
- 8:52Speaker 3: displayed on the front of the foundation, you can't see
- 8:55Speaker 3: the grams.
- 8:56Speaker 2: You can't see the mills.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That is wild.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, all right, should we get into our first
- 9:02Speaker 4: one first topic? Gavel? Yeah? I know, seriously, I feel
- 9:05Speaker 4: like we need like the bag. For anyone who's not aware,
- 9:12Speaker 4: what's the gavel?
- 9:13Speaker 2: The gavel is.
- 9:15Speaker 3: This is not an ad, but the gavel is the
- 9:17Speaker 3: abbey from bush and it's a great gavel. I would
- 9:20Speaker 3: recommend said gavel, and she gabbles well, gable.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Has great battery life and gavel achieves goal of gavel.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I also have said gavel, gavel with gavel, I gavel
- 9:35Speaker 1: with a few other gavels.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I gabbled in a few gavels.
- 9:39Speaker 4: We love a multipurpose gavel.
- 9:40Speaker 2: We do love a multi Yeah.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I do like an outside region stimulator gavel. Okay, yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 1: those gavels are probably my favorite.
- 9:48Speaker 4: All terrains gavel if you will, all right, let's get
- 9:57Speaker 4: into our first beauty court is in session? Is Mechamax
- 10:00Speaker 4: completely ripping you off? Talk us through the research and findings?
- 10:05Speaker 3: Oo okay, So this actually started funnily enough with an
- 10:09Speaker 3: eyebrow pencil, as most things do.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Is there any other option the meaning of life?
- 10:16Speaker 3: Well, I mean you'll soon find out that setting power
- 10:18Speaker 3: was an option as well, apparently. But I recently did
- 10:22Speaker 3: a hole through Mechamax for a video. I was doing
- 10:24Speaker 3: full face on Mechamax. Funnily enough, and that's how it started.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I purchased an eyebrow pencil, and after that video went live,
- 10:30Speaker 3: I was using it for about two weeks and it.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Ran out and I thought, funny, isn't it?
- 10:35Speaker 3: And I've looked down at it zero point zero four grams,
- 10:37Speaker 3: And as an avid beauty lover myself, I already knew
- 10:41Speaker 3: that a lot of the products that I was purchasing
- 10:43Speaker 3: of the same type were, you know, on average, zero
- 10:46Speaker 3: point zero eight grams, So straight away I knew it
- 10:49Speaker 3: was half And that's where it really started, and I
- 10:51Speaker 3: started going down the rabbit hole of is this happening
- 10:53Speaker 3: with other products?
- 10:54Speaker 2: And I came to find out, yes, ma'am.
- 10:56Speaker 1: It is, Oh my gosh, yeah, but the packaging is
- 10:59Speaker 1: the same.
- 11:00Speaker 2: The packaging is the exact same.
- 11:01Speaker 4: To the eye, the entire.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Components the same actually, But yeah, to the eye, you
- 11:06Speaker 3: wouldn't know unless you had actually looked at the very
- 11:09Speaker 3: very fine print on that eyebrow pencil.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Zero point zero.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Four gram Yeah, And so how much is that eyebrow
- 11:17Speaker 4: pencil in comparison to others?
- 11:19Speaker 3: So that eyebrow pencil in particular, it's called the brow
- 11:22Speaker 3: Guru that retails for twenty dollars zero point zero four grams.
- 11:25Speaker 3: By comparison, if you were to look at the Anastasia
- 11:28Speaker 3: Beverly Hills brow Whiz, which retails for forty dollars, that
- 11:31Speaker 3: zero points zero eight grams, which is exactly double the
- 11:35Speaker 3: amount of grams and exactly double the price, therefore making
- 11:38Speaker 3: it the same cost pergram.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Well, so what were some of your other findings.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Kincealer was the next one. So I looked at the
- 11:46Speaker 3: Mechamax Kincealer. So that was five mills and that retailed
- 11:51Speaker 3: for twenty four dollars. So looking that in comparison to
- 11:55Speaker 3: the tart Shape tape, which retails for fifty one dollars
- 11:58Speaker 3: for ten mills, so exactly double. Again, realistically, if you
- 12:02Speaker 3: were to bring the Mechamax up to the same amount
- 12:04Speaker 3: of meals as the tart Shape tape, you're looking at
- 12:07Speaker 3: a three dollar difference for the same amount of mills. Well, yeah, definitely.
- 12:13Speaker 3: The powder was the best one though. The powder, Honestly,
- 12:16Speaker 3: that got me. When I realized that, I was like, oh,
- 12:18Speaker 3: get the try bought out.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I love that God, bitch kind of got bitch. No
- 12:27Speaker 2: one says nobody is safe.
- 12:29Speaker 3: So the powder from Mechamax, it's five grams retails for
- 12:32Speaker 3: twenty eight dollars. The Hood of Beauty Easy Bake Loose
- 12:35Speaker 3: Powder is twenty grams retailing for sixty six dollars. So
- 12:41Speaker 3: at face value, you look at that and you say, oh, mechamax, yep,
- 12:43Speaker 3: one hundred percent twenty eight dollars.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Let's go baby. But then when you actually make it
- 12:47Speaker 2: the same.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Amount of grams, so you times that five by four
- 12:50Speaker 3: to give you twenty grams, like the Hood, all of
- 12:52Speaker 3: a sudden, your Mechamax becomes one hundred and twelve dollars
- 12:55Speaker 3: for the same amount of grams.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Wow.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah it. The thing is, though, it's like, you
- 13:05Speaker 1: know how people will buy like the travel size product, yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 1: to save money. Yeah, because they don't want to have
- 13:11Speaker 1: the big expense, right, And that's definitely something we have
- 13:13Speaker 1: to consider absolutely, which is you know, and I saw
- 13:17Speaker 1: you saying this as well, like on your post as well,
- 13:19Speaker 1: you were saying, like cash bow, Yeah, cash flow is
- 13:22Speaker 1: definitely a thing to consider, Like, yeah, sometimes we don't
- 13:24Speaker 1: have the forty dollars to spend on the eyebrow pencil
- 13:27Speaker 1: and we do want to go but that's kind of
- 13:29Speaker 1: why we'll go for the travel size, like you'll go,
- 13:31Speaker 1: but because the packaging is the same. That's where I
- 13:36Speaker 1: think the misleading part comes into it that one hundred
- 13:39Speaker 1: you don't quite realize that you're not getting as much product.
- 13:43Speaker 2: And to throw another spanner in the works here.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Oh god, Chillie, I'm scared.
- 13:48Speaker 3: The Hood of Beauty travel size is still more grams
- 13:51Speaker 3: than the Mechamax.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Wow.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's called the baby bake and yeah still more grams.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Wow yeah yeah. And I think also like it's just
- 14:04Speaker 4: good to shop in line with your values and how
- 14:07Speaker 4: you use your makeup too, because for example, like with
- 14:09Speaker 4: the eyebrow pencil, if that is something that you know
- 14:12Speaker 4: that you use every single day, yeah, but it's going
- 14:14Speaker 4: to run out in two weeks, And you're like, well,
- 14:16Speaker 4: do I necessarily have time to go into the store
- 14:19Speaker 4: every two weeks to buy a new eyebrow pencil as well? Like,
- 14:23Speaker 4: if I can make that work because I know that
- 14:25Speaker 4: that is one product that I have to use every
- 14:28Speaker 4: single day, maybe I will shift my budget a little
- 14:31Speaker 4: bit too, allowed to buy the more expensive one so
- 14:35Speaker 4: that I get more product that's going to last a
- 14:37Speaker 4: longer time.
- 14:38Speaker 3: One hundred percent, I think formulation is a big thing
- 14:41Speaker 3: to consider here as well. Yeah, and I mean, just
- 14:43Speaker 3: from my personal opinion, if you're looking at the Mechamax
- 14:47Speaker 3: concealer versus tart shaped tape with a three dollar difference,
- 14:50Speaker 3: in my opinion, the tart shape tape formula so much better,
- 14:54Speaker 3: so much better, the hood of beauty powder so much better.
- 14:57Speaker 3: And so I think, not even just looking at it
- 15:00Speaker 3: a cost program or cost per meal perspective, the formulation's
- 15:03Speaker 3: not there either. So when it comes down to working
- 15:05Speaker 3: out is it worth your money? That's something to consider too.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Is it going to perform for you? And if you're
- 15:10Speaker 3: going to spend money on it, I're actually gonna like it,
- 15:13Speaker 3: you know.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I just love how much smarter like consumers are getting one.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Hundred percent, everyone's becoming so much more savvy. Yeah, you
- 15:21Speaker 3: can't hide these kind of things anymore, especially when you've
- 15:24Speaker 3: got platforms like TikTok.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you just can't.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Even things like fabrics and fabric composition like people are
- 15:29Speaker 1: understanding that more. Like I feel like ten years ago
- 15:33Speaker 1: I really did not understand fabric composition and like the
- 15:36Speaker 1: value that was there, And now I'm like, I know what,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I'm getting a good deal because if I'm buying a
- 15:42Speaker 1: five hundred dollar coat and it's a certain fabric that
- 15:44Speaker 1: I know is a cheap fabric, I'm like, we're done here.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Yes, all like sustainability and ethical scores as well. Like
- 15:51Speaker 4: we're just so much more informed, which is incredible.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, let's get into our second beauty quarter is
- 15:56Speaker 1: in session, m CO Beauty. I feel like this might
- 16:01Speaker 1: be not what people are expecting to yeah, because there
- 16:04Speaker 1: is a lot of controversy surrounding m CO Beauty, and
- 16:07Speaker 1: it is we have spoken about it on the podcast
- 16:10Speaker 1: before and it's kind of that that flywheel of it's
- 16:14Speaker 1: you know, it's a cost of living crisis. People need
- 16:17Speaker 1: more affordable options. But how far do you take it
- 16:20Speaker 1: between joop and displaying copy. Yeah, people feel very differently,
- 16:24Speaker 1: and we kind of just say shop within your own values. Yep.
- 16:27Speaker 1: But yeah, talk us through our session. Your honor.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Please be seated.
- 16:33Speaker 3: So, yeah, you're right, MC beauty does have a lot
- 16:37Speaker 3: of controversy surrounding them. I think it's important to note
- 16:40Speaker 3: here that when we speak of the controversy, we're really
- 16:43Speaker 3: talking about IP infringement, of which, legally speaking, m CO
- 16:47Speaker 3: Beauty is not infringing on. So, I personally am a
- 16:51Speaker 3: huge fan of m CO Beauty. I speak about them
- 16:53Speaker 3: a lot on my TikTok, and you know, partly because
- 16:56Speaker 3: the cost of living crisis. I think it's amazing to
- 16:58Speaker 3: have affordable options out there. Interestingly enough, MC beauty is
- 17:03Speaker 3: not doing what Mechamax is doing. And that was a
- 17:06Speaker 3: consistent comment I had on that initial video, is you know,
- 17:09Speaker 3: is MC beauty doing this too?
- 17:10Speaker 2: No, they're not.
- 17:11Speaker 3: So when you look at their products, which I'm just
- 17:14Speaker 3: going to call jupes for the purpose of this exercise,
- 17:17Speaker 3: when you look at the dupes, they are the exact
- 17:20Speaker 3: amount of grams that the original product is, obviously with
- 17:24Speaker 3: a much cheaper price tag attached. Personally, I think the
- 17:28Speaker 3: quality is very high as well. So really, when you
- 17:31Speaker 3: are looking at MC beauty, you genuinely are getting bang
- 17:34Speaker 3: for buck on quality but also the amount of product
- 17:37Speaker 3: that you're getting. I think it's worth it. And I
- 17:39Speaker 3: think when we talk about, you know, products that are
- 17:41Speaker 3: accessible as well, getting MCO Beauty from your Woolward to
- 17:44Speaker 3: chemist warehouse, your big w much more accessible than Mecca.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Truly as well. We put up a story recently and
- 17:52Speaker 1: it was like, what's been your best like spend and save,
- 17:55Speaker 1: so whatever you spent money on that saved your money.
- 17:58Speaker 1: And one that was sent in from the chicks was
- 18:01Speaker 1: MC beauty versus like the high end products and how
- 18:04Speaker 1: they get you know, the same amount of product, but
- 18:08Speaker 1: it's more likely to be on sale because they're very
- 18:10Speaker 1: often discounted at Walworths, like they have forty percent off
- 18:12Speaker 1: sales all the.
- 18:14Speaker 2: It's not worth it's a big ws exactly that.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah. I think if it does sit within your values
- 18:22Speaker 1: that you find that you want to shop there, then
- 18:24Speaker 1: it's good to know that you are getting like the
- 18:25Speaker 1: bank for your.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Bar exactly, Yeah, exactly. It's interesting, right because I think
- 18:30Speaker 3: when you talk about MC beauty versus Mechamax, we have
- 18:34Speaker 3: a brand in MC beauty who is consistently coming to
- 18:37Speaker 3: market with high quality products at a low price point,
- 18:40Speaker 3: as you mentioned, very frequently on sale and they're highly accessible.
- 18:45Speaker 3: And then we have what is often coined as the
- 18:47Speaker 3: beauty retail giant in Mecca coming to market with in
- 18:51Speaker 3: my opinion, inferior quality and the cost per mill and
- 18:55Speaker 3: cost per gram is so far out of the ballpark.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I just struggle to understand where the leg to stand
- 19:01Speaker 3: on is if MC beauty can do it, surely, surely
- 19:05Speaker 3: Mecca Max can do it too. I had actually heard, allegedly,
- 19:09Speaker 3: I had heard that if you are an influencer who
- 19:12Speaker 3: aligns themselves with MC beauty, allegedly Mecca will not align
- 19:18Speaker 3: with you because of that IP controversy. Much of that
- 19:22Speaker 3: exists within their stores. So I, because I'd already been
- 19:26Speaker 3: posting about MC beauty quite frequently, I sort of already
- 19:29Speaker 3: knew that the likelihood was quite low that I would
- 19:32Speaker 3: be aligned with Mecca in future. And then when I
- 19:36Speaker 3: found this out and I started going down the rabbit hole,
- 19:38Speaker 3: I thought, I'd honestly rather align with the consumer on
- 19:41Speaker 3: this because I'm a consumer, Yeah, and just it is
- 19:45Speaker 3: what it is.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you know what, though, I think a lot
- 19:48Speaker 1: of people, a lot of creators that I follow, do
- 19:52Speaker 1: align with the consumer a lot more, which is I
- 19:54Speaker 1: think really amazing. I think it's really good that we're
- 19:57Speaker 1: seeing that in socials as well at the moment, that
- 20:00Speaker 1: people are giving more honest reviews like I always see
- 20:04Speaker 1: in comments of people being like this is a Jeffree
- 20:06Speaker 1: star level review, because it was always like.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Rutal, like a very controversial person would just say what
- 20:18Speaker 4: they were thinking.
- 20:19Speaker 1: It was like it was ages ago, but Carlie launched
- 20:23Speaker 1: like brushes, this is like one of the was the
- 20:26Speaker 1: silvery like yeah, like this is a little bit cheap.
- 20:32Speaker 1: And then Jefferson was like garbage. That was so funny.
- 20:36Speaker 1: It's like definitely a pop culture beauty moment, but it
- 20:39Speaker 1: was funny, okay. And moving on to our final beauty
- 20:43Speaker 1: quarters in session. I'm really excited for this one and
- 20:46Speaker 1: it is loyalty programs.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Oh yes, this is my favorite topic as well as
- 20:51Speaker 3: somebody that spends far too much money at all beauty
- 20:54Speaker 3: retailers your home here with us, Thank you chicks. So
- 20:58Speaker 3: this one's really interesting right. Interestingly enough, Australia Posts actually
- 21:03Speaker 3: publish an annual report where they sort of delve into
- 21:06Speaker 3: the year that was in e commerce. Now I work
- 21:10Speaker 3: in the logistics industry, so I'm very across this report.
- 21:13Speaker 3: It details supply chain logistic statistics across multiple industries. In
- 21:18Speaker 3: their twenty twenty three report, they published that Mecca Beauty
- 21:21Speaker 3: Loop had seen a more than twenty percent growth over
- 21:25Speaker 3: the last year.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Twenty percent on a rewards loyalty program is a huge
- 21:30Speaker 2: substantial amount of growth in.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Way and in a cost of living crisis.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Yes, especially when you take into consideration that you have
- 21:37Speaker 3: those spending brackets. Yeah, and the goalpost have changed on
- 21:41Speaker 3: those recently. So very interesting. But when it actually comes
- 21:46Speaker 3: to Mecca beauty loops, so you've essentially got five levels.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Wow, why did I think there was three?
- 21:54Speaker 3: So first the public know that there's four. There's actually
- 21:58Speaker 3: a secret fifth levels.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god, guys, we're uncovering the secrets onto abrottics.
- 22:04Speaker 2: The prosecution did not come to play today.
- 22:07Speaker 3: So the fifth level is called Magic Circle and that's
- 22:10Speaker 3: the secret level.
- 22:12Speaker 2: It's invitation only.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Secret society.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yeap, So Mecca has a secret society. They do, guys,
- 22:19Speaker 1: whoa they do good.
- 22:21Speaker 3: My understanding is that there's very few people that are
- 22:24Speaker 3: in the Magic Circle. I have spoken to a few
- 22:26Speaker 3: people in the know. I've done done a bit of investigation.
- 22:30Speaker 1: People in the makea secret circle.
- 22:31Speaker 3: No, but I've had a lot of Mecro employees reach
- 22:34Speaker 3: out to me. So I've been speaking to a substantial
- 22:37Speaker 3: amount of them, and this is sort of how I
- 22:38Speaker 3: got that information. There is actually a lady on TikTok.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I cannot, for the life of me remember her name,
- 22:43Speaker 3: but she's in the magic circle and she speaks about it.
- 22:46Speaker 3: She shows like the gifts she gets, the anniversary gifts
- 22:48Speaker 3: she gets, all that sort of thing. But yeah, it's
- 22:51Speaker 3: the secret fifth level. But traditionally we've got the four
- 22:54Speaker 3: levels that most people know about. Now I will say
- 22:57Speaker 3: in that video, I got one if the figure is incorrect,
- 23:01Speaker 3: so we're going to redact that and I will give
- 23:03Speaker 3: you the correct figure for this. So for Beauty Loop
- 23:07Speaker 3: level one, it's a minimum spend of three hundred dollars
- 23:10Speaker 3: to six hundred dollars. Level two is six hundred to
- 23:14Speaker 3: twelve hundred dollars. Initially I said two thousand. That was incorrect.
- 23:17Speaker 2: We'll take that back.
- 23:17Speaker 1: The fun's fine. Redacted, redact from the record.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Level three is twelve hundred dollars to three thousand, five
- 23:25Speaker 3: hundred dollars. Level four is three thousand, five hundred dollars
- 23:28Speaker 3: and above and then level five. We don't know, but
- 23:31Speaker 3: I'm going to assume the spend bracket is rather high.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I was like,
- 23:35Speaker 1: do we know what the spend bracket for I've.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Spoken to a few employees who have said it's upwards
- 23:40Speaker 3: of ten grand in a year, in a.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Year, in a year, they must be buying all of
- 23:45Speaker 4: the like beauty tech. I'm like, how much are you like.
- 23:49Speaker 1: The fragrances make fragrance?
- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, Yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 3: And then if we compare it to Sephora, so you've
- 23:58Speaker 3: got three levels of Sephora. So we've got a White
- 24:00Speaker 3: Card level, so that is a minimum spend of zero dollars,
- 24:04Speaker 3: so you don't have to spend anything, and you're technically
- 24:06Speaker 3: speaking in the White card, so that's between zero and
- 24:09Speaker 3: three hundred dollars. Then you have the Black Card, which
- 24:11Speaker 3: is between three hundred dollars and fifteen hundred dollars, and
- 24:14Speaker 3: then we have the Gold Card, which is fifteen hundred
- 24:16Speaker 3: dollars and above.
- 24:18Speaker 2: So interestingly enough, to be.
- 24:20Speaker 3: At the very first level of Sephora's loyalty program, which
- 24:24Speaker 3: gives you fifteen percent off when they do their VIP sales,
- 24:28Speaker 3: you would have to already be by the time to
- 24:31Speaker 3: get into that second bracket. You've only existed in Mecca's
- 24:35Speaker 3: first bracket, So just so much better from a loyalty
- 24:39Speaker 3: program perspective.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Interestingly, with Sephora.
- 24:42Speaker 3: As well, we know that they give discounts, which is
- 24:44Speaker 3: not something that Mecha do. We all would have seen
- 24:47Speaker 3: the Mecca beauty loop boxes all over our feed recently
- 24:50Speaker 3: and we know that that is how Mecha rewards their
- 24:54Speaker 3: loyalty members. But Sephora gives you discounts, and I think
- 24:58Speaker 3: when you take into consideration cost program and the cost
- 25:01Speaker 3: per meal, and then you also add to that your discounts,
- 25:04Speaker 3: in my opinion, you are better off shopping with Sephora
- 25:08Speaker 3: from a consumer perspective.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's the thing I think looking at probably
- 25:13Speaker 1: what brands you're buying is going to determine where you're
- 25:18Speaker 1: shopping as well. Like, if you are shopping with brands
- 25:20Speaker 1: and stocked at Mecca, it probably makes sense, yeah, to
- 25:24Speaker 1: stay in that loyalty program or do you think it's
- 25:27Speaker 1: better to potentially look at alternatives.
- 25:30Speaker 3: So interestingly, I was a Mecca diehard. I was a
- 25:34Speaker 3: Mecca girly through and through. When I started looking into
- 25:37Speaker 3: this further, and this came before the whole cost per
- 25:39Speaker 3: meal and cost program situation, I actually decided to align
- 25:42Speaker 3: myself more with the brands that were housed within Sephora
- 25:45Speaker 3: because of what it was worth, you know, through the sales,
- 25:48Speaker 3: what it was going to be beneficial to me as
- 25:50Speaker 3: a consumer. I moved away from Mecca, so there are
- 25:54Speaker 3: some brands which, unfortunately I still have to purchase through
- 25:57Speaker 3: there because Mecha hold exclusivity right Australia. But for the
- 26:01Speaker 3: most part, my makeup in my skincare comes from Sephora,
- 26:05Speaker 3: and honestly I'm quite happy with it.
- 26:07Speaker 2: So yeah, it's it's good.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I genuinely think from a consumer perspective, supports where it's out.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Wow, I love this shit.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah it's interesting.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Serious.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So love girl math, I love data. I can't wait
- 26:22Speaker 1: to read that Australia Post report at the end.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Of the year. Seriously.
- 26:25Speaker 3: I mean, if this is how I was taught maths
- 26:27Speaker 3: in high school, I can tell you I would have
- 26:30Speaker 3: been much better at it.
- 26:33Speaker 1: So true. There's also like Pinterest also do a similar
- 26:37Speaker 1: thing where they release like reports on the month of
- 26:41Speaker 1: what's been like going up in searches, so like, if
- 26:44Speaker 1: you want to see whether or not like a fashion
- 26:47Speaker 1: trend is something you want to invest in, you can
- 26:49Speaker 1: see whether or not it's been going up in searches
- 26:52Speaker 1: with their like end of months thing end of month report.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I know the word report.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Obviously love when social platforms come out with this sort
- 27:00Speaker 3: of thing. TikTok's got one for creators as well, where
- 27:03Speaker 3: you can go through and you can see what's performing
- 27:04Speaker 3: through seo et cetera.
- 27:06Speaker 2: So good, it's so good.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Good. The data doesn't lie data.
- 27:09Speaker 1: There's a really amazing Instagram called data but Make It
- 27:12Speaker 1: Fashion and she pulls in like search terms and where
- 27:16Speaker 1: people are searching for it, and whether a trend is
- 27:19Speaker 1: going up or down interest. So she did one on
- 27:22Speaker 1: like leopard print, and it was leopard print was going.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Up trending upwards, yeah, and it.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Was like people being like, no, I don't want to buy,
- 27:28Speaker 1: it's just a trend, and it was like it increased
- 27:30Speaker 1: thirty percent in the last week or something. That's not
- 27:33Speaker 1: a direct quote. I'm paraphrasing here, but it's a really
- 27:36Speaker 1: cool Instagram page.
- 27:36Speaker 4: It's good as well because she presents the data via
- 27:39Speaker 4: memes basically. Yeah, so it's very entertaining as well.
- 27:43Speaker 1: So I feel like you'd love it.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I'm going to look into this, Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 27:47Speaker 1: What are some ways that we can beauty court is
- 27:49Speaker 1: in session or like save or splurge in our everyday shopping.
- 27:52Speaker 3: I think if we're talking every day shopping, one hundred percent.
- 27:56Speaker 3: If you're not already doing this, when you're going into
- 27:58Speaker 3: the supermarkets, check the tears please on the bottom of
- 28:02Speaker 3: price tickets. It'll actually have a unit price. And I
- 28:06Speaker 3: think that's really where you can start in your everyday shopping.
- 28:08Speaker 3: But very similar to what you said before, start educating
- 28:11Speaker 3: on composition of fabrics to learn whether it's a save
- 28:14Speaker 3: or whether it's a splurge. And when it comes to
- 28:16Speaker 3: your beauty retailers, do the research. Unfortunately you will have
- 28:20Speaker 3: to go in store or you can just watch my videos,
- 28:22Speaker 3: but start checking what's the cost per mil, what's the
- 28:26Speaker 3: cost program, and deciding for yourself if it's aligned with
- 28:30Speaker 3: your values, is it worth your money. It is going
- 28:33Speaker 3: to take a little bit of legwork, but honestly, long term,
- 28:35Speaker 3: it's going to be worth it.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Love that.
- 28:37Speaker 4: I feel like you've mentioned a couple of them, But
- 28:40Speaker 4: what are your top three beauty brands that offer the
- 28:43Speaker 4: best bang for buck in terms of quality, size of
- 28:46Speaker 4: product and the cost.
- 28:48Speaker 3: I think this will not be a surprise to anybody,
- 28:50Speaker 3: but MC beauty takes top position for me. I definitely
- 28:54Speaker 3: think when we're talking size of the product, cost of
- 28:57Speaker 3: the product, quality of the product, and accessibility one hundred percent.
- 29:00Speaker 3: MC Beauty All the Way, cannot recommend it enough. I
- 29:03Speaker 3: think second to that, Lorel Lorrel is very good. Loreal Paris.
- 29:07Speaker 3: You obviously can find them pretty much any quote unquote
- 29:11Speaker 3: drug store. But yeah, when it comes to the size
- 29:14Speaker 3: of the product, when it comes to the actual quality,
- 29:16Speaker 3: shade ranges, et cetera, definitely definitely up there. And then
- 29:21Speaker 3: I think definitely for skin care, I couldn't really decide
- 29:24Speaker 3: between the two of these quite frankly, but the Ordinary
- 29:27Speaker 3: love the Ordinary. I speak about the Ordinary a lot
- 29:30Speaker 3: on my page as well. I definitely think for the money,
- 29:33Speaker 3: it is fantastic. It's a staple in my skin care routine.
- 29:36Speaker 3: And then almost pretty much anything Korean skincare, love Korean skincare.
- 29:42Speaker 3: The Brent Annua is fantastic. Ten out of ten recommend
- 29:45Speaker 3: for the price point, it's very well positioned, quantities everything.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Definitely recommend.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Another one I love is TB skin Care. Have you
- 29:54Speaker 1: tried them?
- 29:55Speaker 2: I have.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't like it.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I didn't like Honestly, I'm be indifferent. So it wasn't
- 30:02Speaker 3: groundbreaking to me. It wasn't terrible, Okay, I just didn't
- 30:06Speaker 3: find it made a difference. Gotcha, I have very acne
- 30:09Speaker 3: prone skin, and honestly, I like better products out there.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I love it. I love the honesty.
- 30:16Speaker 4: And also that's the thing. It's especially with skincare or
- 30:19Speaker 4: even with makeup as well. It really does come down
- 30:22Speaker 4: to your skin type and concern because there arevan times
- 30:25Speaker 4: where I'm like, I love this product blah blah, and
- 30:28Speaker 4: people like what I used it and I did not
- 30:30Speaker 4: see a difference, and then we talk about our skin concerns,
- 30:33Speaker 4: and I'm like, Okay, that's why, because you're looking for
- 30:35Speaker 4: something maybe a little bit more like, you're looking for
- 30:38Speaker 4: something that's targeting a completely different skin type than.
- 30:41Speaker 1: What I have.
- 30:42Speaker 2: One hundred percent, Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Okay. So let's finish off with a game of save
- 30:47Speaker 1: or splurge. So we're going to give you a beauty product,
- 30:50Speaker 1: and you're gonna tell us whether or not you think
- 30:52Speaker 1: people should save on it. Am I a more affordable option,
- 30:56Speaker 1: or if you think it's a splurge and splurge on
- 30:58Speaker 1: this product? Okay, Okay, you don't have to go onto
- 31:01Speaker 1: specifics like in terms of specific products, but you can
- 31:04Speaker 1: explain why if you want. Okay, So Number one foundation.
- 31:08Speaker 3: I'm going to say, splurge on this, with the exception
- 31:12Speaker 3: of Mabeline fit Me Gigii did actually wore it to
- 31:15Speaker 3: the Metgala. It is, in my opinion, the best drug
- 31:18Speaker 3: store foundation on the market. It seriously is anything else, though,
- 31:22Speaker 3: I've got to be honest. Splurge, but that's my skin
- 31:24Speaker 3: concerns as well. Honestly, I think, yeah, do what fits
- 31:27Speaker 3: your budget, do it fits your values, But I must
- 31:31Speaker 3: splurge nine times out of ten.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Number two Mascara Save.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Save immediately say you do not need to be purchasing
- 31:40Speaker 3: sixty dollars mascas.
- 31:41Speaker 2: It's not worth it.
- 31:42Speaker 3: The formulas at you know, your chemist ware house, your
- 31:45Speaker 3: price lines, they are so good. Don't sleep on drug
- 31:50Speaker 3: store mascara people, it's good.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Also the expiry on muscara as well, like, it's not
- 31:56Speaker 4: worth splurging on.
- 31:57Speaker 1: It when you can't even keep it for that long.
- 31:58Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Number three primer splurge.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Definitely splurge, and I say this purely on the basis
- 32:06Speaker 3: that I find the more affordable primers. The formula is
- 32:10Speaker 3: just not there for me. The only exception to this
- 32:13Speaker 3: I would say is the m CO Grip primer that's
- 32:15Speaker 3: highly comparable to the milk hydro grip. But as a generalization,
- 32:19Speaker 3: you've got a splurge on primary in my opinion.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Number four lipstick Save Come on, there are some great
- 32:28Speaker 3: brands out there for lipstick, Revlon Seriously, Like, I just
- 32:32Speaker 3: don't think you need to be spending one hundred dollars
- 32:34Speaker 3: on lipstick.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I lose them a lot.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's my main thing, one hundred percent.
- 32:38Speaker 2: I love a lip product. I'm for a lip product.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Probably shouldn't say that. I've said, kunt, you're all good,
- 32:48Speaker 1: but yeah, no, I'm like little products I lose quite easily.
