- 0:01Speaker 1: Local news now, a VOCM News Update.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm Sarah Strickland. A new narrative research poll of Atlantic
- 0:08Speaker 2: Canadians shows a high level of satisfaction with the federal
- 0:12Speaker 2: government's performance to date, much higher than approval ratings for
- 0:16Speaker 2: each of the four Atlantic provincial governments. VOCM's Linda Swain
- 0:20Speaker 2: has more.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Of those asked in this province, 72% are satisfied with
- 0:24Speaker 1: the federal government's performance. That's up from 65% just three
- 0:28Speaker 1: months ago. Narrative research says the results reflect the Prime
- 0:32Speaker 1: Minister's response to the ongoing trade war with the U.S.
- 0:35Speaker 1: and President Donald Trump's increasingly erratic threats and insults against Canada.
- 0:40Speaker 1: On a provincial level, satisfaction in the performance of the

- 0:52Speaker 1: from 29% to 40%, while Churchill Falls continues to be
- 0:56Speaker 1: a defining issue, according to the pollster. Narrative research says
- 1:00Speaker 1: those who are dissatisfied focus on broken promises, including the

- 1:19Speaker 2: Leslie Lake says the massive gourd is already larger than
- 1:22Speaker 2: a 1,034-pound giant he previously grew. Lake, who has been
- 1:27Speaker 2: growing pumpkins for years, says genetics play an important role
- 1:31Speaker 2: in overall size.
- 1:33Speaker 3: It's the genetics. When you go to the store, you
- 1:35Speaker 3: buy like an Atlantic giant. That's not going to get
- 1:38Speaker 3: you what I have this year. So I'm on a
- 1:42Speaker 3: couple of Facebook groups, and I found that there's There's
- 1:47Speaker 3: a lot of pumpkins in the States and other places
- 1:49Speaker 3: where you can get the right genetics. So the genetics
- 1:53Speaker 3: I got this year, the seed, I can trace the
- 1:57Speaker 3: genetics and the parents and the grandparents back several years.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Once the pumpkin, he's named Pothole, is ready to be picked,
- 2:05Speaker 2: Lake plans to set it up on his front lawn
- 2:07Speaker 2: and invite anyone interested to come and have a look.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Applications are now open for Collision Clinic's Enriching Lives car giveaway.
- 2:16Speaker 2: The event has become a staple of the holiday season
- 2:19Speaker 2: in the province. Workers at Collision Clinic volunteer their time
- 2:23Speaker 2: to restore an accident-damaged vehicle, which is then given to
- 2:26Speaker 2: a person or family that otherwise could not afford it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: The application deadline is 4-30 on November 2nd. The recipient
- 2:34Speaker 2: of the refurbished rig is usually revealed within the first
- 2:37Speaker 2: few weeks of December. More information can be found at vocm.com.

- 2:45Speaker 2: Vladimir Putin as the U.S. demands more answers from Russia

- 2:52Speaker 2: a lab studying plagues in Siberia. Here's ABC News.
- 2:56Speaker 4: The World Health Organization wants Russia to provide more information
- 2:59Speaker 4: about why it put in place those public health measures
- 3:02Speaker 4: like quarantines at hospitals. And in a new alert, the

- 3:09Speaker 4: saying the U.S. government has limited ability to help citizens
- 3:12Speaker 4: who go there.
