- 0:00Aloha. Sunday morning. Tropical storm Fausto is heading toward the islands — it'll arrive Tuesday, and we're looking at dangerous surf and heavy rain through Wednesday.
- 1:30Today and tomorrow stay breezy with scattered showers mainly in the windward mountains overnight and early morning. If you're heading to the leeward side, conditions are manageable. But starting Tuesday, that changes fast — Fausto brings possible strong winds around 40 miles per hour, heavy rain, and surf that'll reshape the east-facing shores. Thursday it clears out.
- 1:48Kauaʻi's running 6.8 feet — experienced swimmers and surfers only right now. Oʻahu is 5 to 5.4 feet on both shores, moderate and manageable. Maui and the Big Island are smaller and calmer. By Tuesday, though, the east-facing shores will be dangerous. South-facing shores stay elevated through mid-week.
- 2:03Parks are operating normally. Keep an eye on the National Weather Service updates through Tuesday as conditions evolve. If you're planning to be on the water or on exposed shorelines Tuesday through Wednesday, check the latest marine and high-surf warnings before you go.
- 2:17If you're planning ahead for fall, our new airfare guide covers the post-Labor Day window when fares drop and hold steady through mid-November. It's a smart booking period, especially if you're trying to dodge the Thanksgiving cliff. The piece walks through the exact booking windows and what to expect at each one.
