- Shaun: Hello and welcome back to the reset. I am Shaun Tucker, human performance scientist and authority architect. Today we are in the living lab and I am documenting the struggle, the science, and really just something to impart to you as a high performance dad or someone who is ready to up level their life. Today we're in the going to be sharing about the topic of what it means to be truly resourceful. You probably heard things like, you don't need more resources, you just need to learn more about resourcefulness, or you need to be more resourceful. And I I remember reading that quote, I think it was Tony Robbins quote. It's ⁓ Essentially goes, you don't need more resources, you need to be more resourceful. And I was kind of dumbfounded by that quote because I'm like, but if I had more resources, I could expand, I could grow, I could focus on all these things. And the truth is, he's right. You don't need more resources in most cases. You actually just need to look at what you have and really explore what you're not. what you don't even see that's on the table. And I'll give you a good example of this. If you're running out of money and you have a service that you offer, you don't need to go and find a new client. Per se, you don't need to go and use resources to essentially find a new client. Like, you don't need a new marketing system, you don't need to run ads, you don't need to do any of that stuff. What you need is actually just to get out your phone and call out, or call up, I should say, someone who has already bought from you and understand what. their problem is right now. What's their goal? What's their problem? And how you can help them achieve what what they're setting out to do. Because I think there's so many reasons not to call someone, right? And you might think that this is like a little bit unethical, you're kind of just reaching out to get money, but no, it's this is I don't know, sales is such an entanglement process, I find. Because there is that element of you feel like you're doing it for the sake of just getting a sale, right? I'm running a business and I need money. Because if my business doesn't have money, I can't pay my staff, I can't pay myself. Which essentially just means I don't have a business anymore. Which is kind of silly, right? ⁓ but it's it's not that at all. On the other hand, it's really how can I help the person who is striving to achieve something I know that I can help them in. It's really that simple. And I d I don't know how it can be any more complicated than that. But the truth is, we make it so much more complicated. Because we have attachments and feelings and there's all these things that are going on in the background. We don't want to offend people, we don't wanna put them in a position where they feel like they have to do something. But forgetting all of that, and I know this is the hardest part of running a business, is it's really hard to switch that off. Or it's really hard to to to detach from the outcome. Can I can I truly help this person? If I think I can truly help this person and I want to help this person, then I should really be doing everything in my power to show that I can actually help this person. 'Cause it's not really about just taking their money and running away. And if it was, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be listening to this episode anyway. And but not only that, I'm pretty sure that You would be much more successful monetarily by simply acknowledging the fact that you've ⁓ you've switched off from your humanity and you've switched on to your let's say your your power trip and your ego trip and you'd much rather feel powerful than human. And if that's you, that's okay, right? There's lessons in life for everyone at different parts of their journey. But for me I think it's really important and I think it's the same for you if you're listening. Sales is a is a tool, is a system used for helping people. Right? You deserve to be paid for your time, for your skills, and for your ability to help people. If you were an employee, I'm do I don't think you would be complaining or feel bad about charging for your time. Right? You get paid When you clock on, you get paid when you click off. I think the only thing that's different is it's your reputation, not someone else's. And I get it, it is hard to really own this part. Cause it's something that I personally have struggled on in my business. And I think it's not so much the fact that I can't do it. I know that I can do it, but It's almost looking at I've had clients in the past who have not been great clients. They're not the right fit. And honestly I still have the scar. Like I still have the old wound that sits there and reminds me to be humble, to be present, to be really understanding that not everyone wants to receive help even though they claim to do. And this probably comes back to the the physiology. People will only change at the the rate that they can change. Which once again comes back to the art of resourcefulness because It really is an art. You have to look beyond the surface to see how many resources, to see what you truly do have. Because I think the other really important part to this resources versus resourcefulness, you don't need me r you don't need more resources, you need to be more resourceful. This is actually talking about Yeah. So, this is actually talking about focusing on gratitude and what you do have versus what you don't have. If you focus on what you don't have, you'll get more of what you don't have. If you focus on what you do have, you'll get more of what you do have. And gratitude is the doorway or gateway to abundance. So the more resourceful you become, the more resources you will have. That's pretty cool, isn't it? So always remember that. And I always have that quote sorta imprinted on my mind of what am I not seeing? Or how can I think about this differently? And what do I have currently that can really help elevate me out of this position? Because you can only solve a problem based on the level of thinking that you have. And that current problem requires a different level of thinking to solve it. So you it's really important to be part of these kind of masterminds and have people that you can ask questions to. mentors or friends or colleagues or whoever it is because if you try and apply the same knowledge that you have that problem at, you won't you won't actually be able to get out of it. It's impossible to get out of that. So it's just something to consider, something to remember. And I really employ or I really want to get that over to you that resourcefulness is really an art and there is a science to it of course. Cause I mean some things to consider just off the top of my head are obviously people. People are not resources. ⁓ but if you are resourceful, you can use your network, ⁓ your partner, your the people around you. You can receive answers and solutions and even just a listening ear. Cause sometimes it's just a listening ear that you need to Actually understand your problem a little bit differently, especially when it comes to r finances and things like that. If you feel like you need more resources, oftentimes it's not it's not that at all. Because if you're really, I suppose, desperate to get out of a situation that requires you to have resources, just think of a drug addict. I mean, someone who's looking for the next heroine. hit is gonna learn how to get money somewhere. They're gonna learn how that they can pay for their next hit. And yeah, they might cross a few lines to get there, but I think it it just gives a very visual representation or description of what it means to be resourceful. And it's funny because the stress actually comes from like when you think, ⁓ I don't know how I'm gonna pay for that, or so when you think, ⁓ I don't know how I'm gonna pay for that, I just don't have the money. It's never really a money issue that you have. It's more of I don't see what I can face or what I have to face. The the stress of dealing with that situation to be able to facilitate me. In the position where I can actually commit to that, ⁓ that's that's the difficulty. It's it's not really a money thing. It's usually having a a difficult conversation with someone like a partner or family member, someone that you love, maybe someone that you hate even. Maybe it's you, you've got clients owing you money and You know, having those difficult conversations. Maybe you've been avoiding. And really this commitment is for you to up-level yourself and really see the value that you bring and that you deserve to be paid, right? So the the next kind of financial commitment for you to level up is to face that part of you that maybe doesn't believe it deserves to be paid. Or that you deserve to be walked on by your clients. And you do the work and you don't deserve to be paid. Like that's it's it's sad, but you know, these are the kind of the unconscious programs that we run as human beings. And especially as providers. If you've got a a service that you want to provide to others, yeah, it can be a real challenge to maintain the integrity of that. And I think it really comes down to respect and mutual respect. And so I guess that brings us to the end of this episode of the reset. So if you found it valuable, all I do, all I would encourage you to do is to share it with one person. That's all I ask. Thanks so much for tuning in. I'll see you in the next one. Bye for now.
