1:41
Speaker 3: And I don't know if it's just the weather or what,
1:44
Speaker 3: but does this seem like it's been the longest week
1:46
Speaker 3: in history? It does to me. Coming up a little
1:49
Speaker 3: bit later on the show, the Southern West Virginia Toy Ride, Folks,
1:51
Speaker 3: you're going to stop by. This is big an annual
1:53
Speaker 3: event where a whole lot of motorcycle riders from Charleston
1:56
Speaker 3: and the surrounding areas go on a big ride to
1:58
Speaker 3: collect toys for kids to Christmas, happening December the twentieth.
2:02
Speaker 3: The meet up is Daniel Boone Park and the ride
2:04
Speaker 3: will go to Women's and Children from there. There are
2:07
Speaker 3: several drop off locations around the valley a ton of fact,
2:10
Speaker 3: and they've already been collecting toys at those venues, which
2:13
Speaker 3: we'll go over all those a little bit later. They've
2:15
Speaker 3: actually been doing that since first and November, I understand.
2:17
Speaker 3: So they're going to wrap up the drop off spots
2:19
Speaker 3: to get ready for the right. We'll talk about it
2:20
Speaker 3: with them coming up a little bit later on Plus
2:22
Speaker 3: on the show yesterday and all the promos, I promise
2:25
Speaker 3: you I was going to have the return of a
2:27
Speaker 3: radio legend to the airwaves here in Charleston, West Virginia.
2:31
Speaker 3: The laugh may sound familiar, ladies and gentlemen formerly of
2:35
Speaker 3: another station, just hanging out with us for the day.
2:37
Speaker 3: Would you please make welcome Coach Kid, buddy, good morning,
2:41
Speaker 3: how are you doing good?
2:42
Speaker 4: Let's let's let's ease up on the legends. Come on,
2:44
Speaker 4: come on, let's back that down.
2:47
Speaker 3: Come on. Coach Kid, of course, is very well known
2:51
Speaker 3: personality in the Charleston market for a number of years,
2:54
Speaker 3: stepped away from radio to go do something else, and
2:56
Speaker 3: he's back with us today.
2:57
Speaker 4: And by the way, I'm not sure or what that
3:00
Speaker 4: something else is yet I've stepped away. I just don't
3:04
Speaker 4: know what. He's just something else.
3:05
Speaker 3: So Coach Kid and I are going to talk about something.
3:07
Speaker 3: He's actually got a project totally outside radio and out
3:11
Speaker 3: that he's very passionate about. And so that's why I
3:13
Speaker 3: really brought him on the show. But then when I
3:15
Speaker 3: found out that he had a little extra time this one,
3:17
Speaker 3: I said, won't you just come on early, buddy, I'm
3:19
Speaker 3: off today, So here he is. We're gonna explain all
3:21
Speaker 3: that coming up a little bit later on. Plus, your
3:23
Speaker 3: calls and texts are always welcome. Big Lee Pigley Wiggley
3:25
Speaker 3: Hotline three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight.
3:28
Speaker 3: Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine three five
3:31
Speaker 3: five zero zero eight. Let's welcome in now, Angie Gillan
3:33
Speaker 3: water from the Canoil Charleston. You've made association with this
3:36
Speaker 3: week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week and as always,
3:38
Speaker 3: our pets pictures posted to Dave Aland Radio and Facebook
3:41
Speaker 3: and at Dave A seventy on X Angie, good morning
3:44
Speaker 3: and welcome to the show.
3:46
Speaker 5: Good morning. It's it's very cold and very hard to
3:49
Speaker 5: get out of bed.
3:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, I got you. I gotta say. I texted you
3:53
Speaker 3: this morning and I said, oh, by the way, I said,
3:56
Speaker 3: I'm going to have a coach kid formerly from another
3:59
Speaker 3: company here on the radio. And you said, here's the quote.
4:03
Speaker 3: How exciting the sound of my teen years?
4:05
Speaker 6: Wow?
4:06
Speaker 4: Wow, Angie, it's a pleasure talking to you.
4:10
Speaker 5: Oh, I'm very excited. I've been waiting on this phone
4:12
Speaker 5: call morning.
4:15
Speaker 4: Angie.
4:16
Speaker 3: You know I'm here too, right, Yeah, yeah, we've got
4:18
Speaker 3: the host of the show. Yeah, okay, I'm just old news.
4:22
Speaker 3: I guess all right. So, as always, we have our picture,
4:26
Speaker 3: our pitts picture posted over Dave Island Radio on Facebook,
4:29
Speaker 3: the WHS network Facebook page and at Dave seventy on X.
4:33
Speaker 3: I want you to tell us the story of Twinkle Toes.
4:37
Speaker 5: Twinkle So Twinkle Toes, contrary to his name, is a
4:42
Speaker 5: very very large dog. He's about sixty town. Something about
4:46
Speaker 5: naming these giant dogs very petite names just tickles me.
4:51
Speaker 5: But he is very sweet. He's very mannerly. He's about
4:55
Speaker 5: like six years old. We assume so he's got all
4:59
Speaker 5: that puppy energy out. All he wants to do now
5:01
Speaker 5: is just lay on the couch and stay warm. But yeah,
5:07
Speaker 5: he's extremely housebroken. You will not have any accidents in
5:10
Speaker 5: your house with this dog, and if you do, think
5:14
Speaker 5: about taking him home. He's great with kids. He probably
5:17
Speaker 5: needs to be the only pet in your home or
5:19
Speaker 5: you need to have female dogs. He is very much
5:21
Speaker 5: a lady man.
5:26
Speaker 3: More like the part about wanting to dis lay around, Okay,
5:30
Speaker 3: I want to. I want to spend a little time
5:32
Speaker 3: talking Angie about fostering pets from the shelters, because I
5:35
Speaker 3: feel like sometimes we don't spend enough time about the
5:37
Speaker 3: importance of fostering.
5:38
Speaker 4: Talk about that.
5:39
Speaker 5: So fostering, I'm the foster for our shelter and it's
5:42
Speaker 5: one of my favorite things that I do for the shelter.
5:45
Speaker 5: You get temporary pet ownership, so whether it's for a night,
5:48
Speaker 5: a weekend, a couple months until the pet gets adopted,
5:52
Speaker 5: you get to have that pet in your home. We
5:54
Speaker 5: learn a lot of information about them in a home
5:56
Speaker 5: setting that we don't get to see at the shelter,
5:59
Speaker 5: which increases their adoptability. Pictures of them like in a
6:02
Speaker 5: home rather than surrounded by concrete walls. Also increases their adoptability,
6:08
Speaker 5: and also it greatly greatly improves their mental health. And
6:12
Speaker 5: the other good thing about fostering is it's free. We
6:14
Speaker 5: provide any supply that you might need, including back care
6:17
Speaker 5: for the foster pets.
6:19
Speaker 4: It's great.
6:19
Speaker 3: It's a great program. And I know several of my
6:21
Speaker 3: friends that do that and will foster dogs and cats,
6:24
Speaker 3: and then they love it and it's a very very
6:26
Speaker 3: important part of the of the process too. Also, I
6:29
Speaker 3: love the fact that on your social media you have
6:31
Speaker 3: some dogs up for adoption, Angie, that you have divided
6:34
Speaker 3: them into different categories, cat tolerant, loves kids, never met
6:38
Speaker 3: a stranger, et cetera. I noticed that this morning. That's
6:40
Speaker 3: a pretty good idea to do it that way.
6:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, because there are a lot of people in our comments,
6:44
Speaker 5: we try to listen to the community and what they're
6:46
Speaker 5: looking for, and a lot of people will comment these
6:48
Speaker 5: specific traits. So to make it easier, we will, I mean,
6:52
Speaker 5: we will lay it right out for you. We want
6:54
Speaker 5: these dogs into homes and out of the shelter, so
6:57
Speaker 5: we're trying to make it as easy as possible. I'm
7:00
Speaker 5: pretty similar to online shopping, just add it to car
7:02
Speaker 5: and check out.
7:04
Speaker 4: And you when when when the pet has adopted Let
7:07
Speaker 4: me go back to that a second, When when the
7:10
Speaker 4: pet has adopted for foster? Is it a better chance
7:13
Speaker 4: for the pet to get adopted than rather being in
7:15
Speaker 4: the kennel itself? I mean, I know you said, you know,
7:18
Speaker 4: taking pictures like that. Do the owners that foster him,
7:21
Speaker 4: do they do they actually get to to hold on
7:24
Speaker 4: to him? And do they end up adopting him rather
7:27
Speaker 4: than giving him to someone else?
7:29
Speaker 5: So I will say, if it's your first time fostering,
7:32
Speaker 5: usually they will foster fail. But we do have a
7:36
Speaker 5: pretty strong community I said. I'll say strong as in
7:38
Speaker 5: they don't give into to adopting their foster pets, but
7:41
Speaker 5: a pretty big community of those foster parents that their
7:44
Speaker 5: sole purpose is fostering. And should they what we call
7:48
Speaker 5: foster fail and adopt their foster pet, they can't foster more.
7:52
Speaker 5: So I would say, if it's your first time fostering,
7:55
Speaker 5: you're probably gonna end up keeping.
7:57
Speaker 4: Yeah.
7:57
Speaker 3: I don't know that I could ever do that or
8:00
Speaker 3: that exact reason, because once I bring you in your mind,
8:04
Speaker 3: oh yeah.
8:05
Speaker 4: That, and and the love grows, you start to get
8:07
Speaker 4: to know the pet a little bit more, because my
8:09
Speaker 4: family's actually thought about it before, I know, just thought
8:12
Speaker 4: about it. But at the same time, I'm like, I
8:14
Speaker 4: don't think I could return this animal. Once I start
8:16
Speaker 4: to love on it, understand its personality, get to get
8:20
Speaker 4: to love on it a little bit more, sleep with
8:21
Speaker 4: you and all that kind of stuff. I don't think
8:23
Speaker 4: that pet's going back there. He's gonna stay right here.
8:25
Speaker 3: Oddly enough, the same thing that Coach's wife.
8:27
Speaker 4: Says, Yeah, I think he's gonna stay right We have.
8:31
Speaker 3: A text here for you and Gie. So do the
8:32
Speaker 3: animals suffer separation anxiety once again after returning to the
8:36
Speaker 3: shelter from their foster family.
8:39
Speaker 5: I would say, and this is actually proven. There are
8:42
Speaker 5: research studies about this.
8:44
Speaker 7: Uh.
8:44
Speaker 5: Their stress levels do not increase upon returning to the shelter.
8:49
Speaker 5: They if anything, they just return to normal levels. But
8:52
Speaker 5: upon returning from a foster home, especially like overnight trips,
8:56
Speaker 5: stress levels do not increase upon returning to the shelter.
9:00
Speaker 3: Important to note talk with Angie gilben Water with this
9:02
Speaker 3: week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. The Day
9:03
Speaker 3: Island Show in five eighty Live brought to you in
9:05
Speaker 3: part by Hustin's Pizza Gets The Hustin's Homedy pack a
9:08
Speaker 3: large Eten Nitch Pepperoni pizza, ten bread stick, twelve hot wings,
9:11
Speaker 3: and a two looter bottle PEPSI only thirty three ninety nine.
9:14
Speaker 3: You guys out at about anywhere this weekend? I think
9:16
Speaker 3: I saw that you got an event going on with
9:17
Speaker 3: some other shelters over in my neck of the woods
9:20
Speaker 3: or in Tays Valley. Is that right?
9:21
Speaker 5: Oh? Yeah, we have a huge adoption event with Best
9:25
Speaker 5: Friends Animal Society. It's at Valley Park, one Valley Park Drive.
9:30
Speaker 5: So many shelters are going to be there with so
9:32
Speaker 5: many adoptable pets. And this is if we get, you know,
9:35
Speaker 5: three feet of snow, we're still going to be there.
9:37
Speaker 3: Nice. What time is the event? I mean, maybe that'll
9:41
Speaker 3: help you out, but what time is the event?
9:43
Speaker 5: So we're starting We will be there with pets getting
9:46
Speaker 5: set up at ten am. So if you roll through
9:48
Speaker 5: at ten, we'll likely show you some animals and we're
9:51
Speaker 5: going to be there until five.
9:52
Speaker 3: Pus okay, because I think you should be okay early on.
9:55
Speaker 3: From what the weather folks are saying, it's probably going
9:57
Speaker 3: to hit night, probably mid afternoon or something like this.
9:59
Speaker 3: You may have to cut a little bit short, but
10:00
Speaker 3: I think at ten o'clock, ten eleven o'clock, I think
10:02
Speaker 3: you should be in pretty good shape. And it would
10:04
Speaker 3: be a great day to be there because there's going
10:06
Speaker 3: to be so many people in a hurricane for the
10:08
Speaker 3: Christmas parade tomorrow, so you're gonna have a lot of
10:10
Speaker 3: that traffic rolling through there.
10:12
Speaker 5: We're hoping so this is an outside event, so we're
10:14
Speaker 5: hoping every one adops these dogs so we don't have
10:17
Speaker 5: to sit in the cold the dog.
10:19
Speaker 3: And speaking and speaking of cold, it is going to
10:21
Speaker 3: be bitterly cold starting Saturday night really through early Tuesday morning.
10:25
Speaker 3: You shouldn't have to remind people of this, Angie, but
10:27
Speaker 3: please please make arrangements for your outside pets and some dogs.
10:31
Speaker 3: I know people will say, well, my dog loves it
10:33
Speaker 3: and they're bread for it, and that may be the case,
10:35
Speaker 3: but the reality is the majority of animals are not
10:38
Speaker 3: bred for it, and despite what they may have told you,
10:42
Speaker 3: they really don't want to be outside.
10:45
Speaker 5: Absolutely, if your dog is, you know, bread for the
10:48
Speaker 5: cold temperatures and it is an outside pet, that's great,
10:51
Speaker 5: that's fine. Just please make sure that you have the
10:53
Speaker 5: proper shelter in place, straw instead of blankets or any
10:58
Speaker 5: type of soft material that the area that you have
11:01
Speaker 5: them for housing is covered with. You have three walls,
11:05
Speaker 5: windshield and make sure that water bowls are not frozen.
11:09
Speaker 5: But yeah, Usetiorka is a fan of the snow. I
11:11
Speaker 5: have one like that. Great, but please make sure those
11:14
Speaker 5: are there. Yeah, in the events that they don't want
11:17
Speaker 5: to be outside anymore.
11:19
Speaker 3: We had a texture. So is there any particular donation
11:21
Speaker 3: item you need to protect the pawpads from frostbite outside?
11:26
Speaker 5: So we actually do pet safe pet safe salt that
11:30
Speaker 5: we put down ice melt. We have that on our
11:33
Speaker 5: wish list on Amazon, which you can see on our
11:35
Speaker 5: Facebook page. But that is the precaution that we take
11:39
Speaker 5: just because we do not have enough little tiny booty
11:41
Speaker 5: to put on all the eggs the Seltzer does.
11:45
Speaker 3: I didn't know that was the thing. So they make
11:46
Speaker 3: pets safe salt. I was unaware of that.
11:49
Speaker 5: Yep, they do, and they sell it anywhere you can
11:51
Speaker 5: get pet supplies.
11:52
Speaker 3: Well, there you go.
11:53
Speaker 4: Well, Angie, before you go, I want to let you
11:55
Speaker 4: know thanks for being on the program. And we have
11:57
Speaker 4: an eight track cassette coming your way with Turkey time
12:00
Speaker 4: on it for you. Okay.
12:01
Speaker 3: Oh, yes, I saw somebody posted that video the other
12:07
Speaker 3: day of that.
12:08
Speaker 4: All right, we only could get it in eight tracks.
12:11
Speaker 3: I'm interested in the fact you said it's an eight
12:13
Speaker 3: track cassette.
12:16
Speaker 4: It could be both Buddy psychology marright.
12:19
Speaker 3: Oh and also another text where you, Angie, somebody said,
12:21
Speaker 3: don't forget about those strays too, because every neighborhood probably
12:23
Speaker 3: gets some strays out there. If you, if you're so inclined,
12:26
Speaker 3: make a make a place for the strays outside too.
12:30
Speaker 5: Absolutely, our shelter is busting at the seams right now.
12:33
Speaker 5: But also give us a call and we will do
12:35
Speaker 5: what we can to assist you with those strays as well.
12:37
Speaker 3: All right, Angie Gillenwater Kanal Charleston. You main association with
12:41
Speaker 3: our check in this week. I appreciate you being here
12:43
Speaker 3: and I'm glad I was made able to make your
12:45
Speaker 3: dream come true and getting to talk to talk to
12:47
Speaker 3: Coach Kid on the air. I'm sorry, but next week
12:51
Speaker 3: you're just gonna have to deal.
12:52
Speaker 4: With just me.
12:52
Speaker 3: Is that okay?
12:53
Speaker 5: I guess that's fine.
12:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, I know. You gotta take the good with the
12:57
Speaker 4: bad engine and you appreciate it.
12:59
Speaker 3: We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot. To talk to you
13:01
Speaker 3: next week.
13:01
Speaker 5: Thank you have a good one.
13:02
Speaker 3: Do you want to remind you that they are out
13:03
Speaker 3: at Valley Park tomorrow So it would be a good
13:05
Speaker 3: opportunity if you're heading to the Hurricane Christmas Parade to
13:07
Speaker 3: swing on in there. It's a huge adoption event. All
13:09
Speaker 3: of these different shelters are going to be there together,
13:12
Speaker 3: so coach would be a good time for people stop by.
13:13
Speaker 4: Absolutely, It's what a great organization, and and and and
13:17
Speaker 4: all that. Again, we've got our pet from from there
13:19
Speaker 4: as well. It's I got to be honest with you,
13:21
Speaker 4: it's very difficult to go in there.
13:23
Speaker 3: I have never been in there. Yeah, and as much
13:25
Speaker 3: as I love the people up there, I have never
13:28
Speaker 3: set foot inside the shelter.
13:30
Speaker 8: Now.
13:30
Speaker 3: My wife and I the first cat we ever adopted,
13:33
Speaker 3: she went and got it, and I said, well, why
13:36
Speaker 3: don't you just go again? And did you come home
13:38
Speaker 3: with it with a cat? And she did. The two
13:40
Speaker 3: we have now just showed up at strays on our eyes.
13:43
Speaker 3: So you just.
13:44
Speaker 4: Adopted them, took them in, they adopted us.
13:46
Speaker 3: I got you, yeah, both of them.
13:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember I'm in a quick story. I met
13:49
Speaker 4: my wife there at the shelves. Yeah, she wasn't behind
13:54
Speaker 4: the cage, but I wasn't doing a Halloween thing there.
13:57
Speaker 4: I was broadcasting you do it a Halloween thing there,
14:00
Speaker 4: and we were kind of talking. But she came out
14:02
Speaker 4: and we really got That's when we got to see
14:04
Speaker 4: each other. She was looking at cats with their little daughter, Emma,
14:08
Speaker 4: And now we're married. Emma's eighteen years old. Oh so
14:11
Speaker 4: there you go.
14:12
Speaker 3: There's so many spae and neuter jokes going there, but
14:15
Speaker 3: I'm not going to do that.
14:17
Speaker 4: That wasn't until after we got married.
14:18

Speaker 4: Kid. No, I don't see that even a little bit.
16:58
Speaker 3: Okay, why not?
16:59
Speaker 4: No, because I'm I'm just coach.
17:02
Speaker 3: Okay.
17:02
Speaker 4: And the funny thing is, I'm gonna blow you away here.
17:05
Speaker 4: That's not even my real name. What coaches not coach
17:08
Speaker 4: is not your I know it blows a lot of
17:10
Speaker 4: people away. They're like, my real name is milburn Sminia.
17:13
Speaker 4: It was just hard to spell.
17:14
Speaker 3: I got so it was. I thought it might be like, uh,
17:17
Speaker 3: coach delicious or something like that.
17:19
Speaker 4: No, that's that's now.
17:20
Speaker 3: Don't don't, don't don't. We're we're working. We're working on
17:25
Speaker 3: a project here. Coach, don't don't, don't don't. Don't blow
17:28
Speaker 3: it out? Okay, okay, buddy, coach kid is with us
17:31
Speaker 3: as well.
17:31
Speaker 4: I don't be in here. I don't know why you
17:34
Speaker 4: thought this would be a good idea. You need to
17:36
Speaker 4: rethink things, dude. I know a whole lot of things. Yeah,
17:39
Speaker 4: I really do.
17:41
Speaker 3: All right, save us folks, if you will. We'll get
17:43
Speaker 3: to the folks from the southern West Virginia toy Ride
17:46
Speaker 3: here just introduced us. If you will introduce yourselves to us,
17:49
Speaker 3: if you will.
17:50
Speaker 7: Please, I'm Corey Mohawk Kinkle. I'm the founder of the
17:53
Speaker 7: toy Ride for women's shown his hospital.
17:54
Speaker 3: Okay, and his daughter. Okay, but that microphone down there
17:58
Speaker 3: a little bit. It's all right, it's all good. It's
18:00
Speaker 3: all good. And you are known as Giggles.
18:03
Speaker 4: I don't believe it.
18:04
Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, not at all. All right, So
18:09
Speaker 3: let's talk about this ride. How many years this thing
18:11
Speaker 3: been going to How many years this thing been going on?
18:14
Speaker 3: Twelve years? And were you there from the very beginning
18:17
Speaker 3: in this quarry? Were you there from the very beginning.
18:19
Speaker 7: Yeah, she was in the hospital when she was three
18:21
Speaker 7: years old at Women's Chordren's with the upper respiratory infection,
18:26
Speaker 7: and it kind of just took off from there. What
18:29
Speaker 7: happened was there's a playroom up there at the fifth
18:31
Speaker 7: floor at Women's Children. So a lot of stuff is
18:34
Speaker 7: broke missing DVD players the hospital, the kids' rooms up
18:37
Speaker 7: there on the fifth floor and throughout some of the
18:39
Speaker 7: rest of the hospital. There they got DVD players. You
18:42
Speaker 7: put xboxes on a cart and wiel it to the
18:44
Speaker 7: room and the kids can play games and stuff like
18:46
Speaker 7: that while they're in there, just something to give them
18:48
Speaker 7: something to do while they're in there not knowing what
18:50
Speaker 7: exactly is going on with the MO they're getting test
18:52
Speaker 7: run and everything on them.
18:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've had you guys on the show for
18:54
Speaker 3: the last couple of years to talk about this big
18:56
Speaker 3: event and then it's going to be on It's gonna
18:57
Speaker 3: be December twentieth. But you've been collecting toys up till
19:00
Speaker 3: that point. But this is this is personal for you
19:02
Speaker 3: and your families. Yes, yeah, yeah, I mean take us
19:05
Speaker 3: back through. I mean I don't want to, you know,
19:08
Speaker 3: like dig up any bad memories anything, but obviously it
19:11
Speaker 3: left an impression on you, Corey, or you wouldn't be
19:14
Speaker 3: doing that what you're doing. Now, take us back through
19:16
Speaker 3: those days with your daughter.
19:17
Speaker 7: Really, it started out she was in there. She was
19:20
Speaker 7: in there like any other kid that was in the hospital,
19:22
Speaker 7: don't know what's going on, scared have everything hooked up
19:25
Speaker 7: to her test being run, trying to figure out what
19:27
Speaker 7: was going on.
19:28
Speaker 3: She was in there for several days.
19:31
Speaker 7: And then we got to talking after we've seen the
19:33
Speaker 7: playroom originally started out with the lady by the name
19:37
Speaker 7: of Christy Bissett, and we started working with her in
19:40
Speaker 7: the beginning of this, but now the lady we work
19:42
Speaker 7: with is Summer Right Women's Children's. It's just something good
19:47
Speaker 7: to do. I guess you could say give back to
19:49
Speaker 7: the community. You always got people saying do this or
19:52
Speaker 7: do that, but in the end, you really don't know
19:55
Speaker 7: who you're helping out when you're just going and donating something,
19:58
Speaker 7: or where it's going. If you don't, if it's going
20:00
Speaker 7: on a shelf with the price tag on it, and
20:02
Speaker 7: this you actually get to see it go straight to
20:04
Speaker 7: the hospital and kids wake up Christmas Morning with toys
20:07
Speaker 7: and they get given out throughout the rest of the year.
20:09
Speaker 4: Yeah. And that's the thing that I think a lot
20:12
Speaker 4: of people misinterpret as well, is that you have no
20:15
Speaker 4: idea where anything's going, and you have first look, yes,
20:18
Speaker 4: and you're right there, and like this is going there,
20:20
Speaker 4: this is going there, This is perfect.
20:23
Speaker 7: One hundred percent of the toys stay here local. They
20:25
Speaker 7: don't go out of the state of West Virginia, they
20:27
Speaker 7: don't go out of Charleston area. They stay here and
20:29
Speaker 7: go to the kids at the hospital Christmas morning, and
20:31
Speaker 7: throughout the rest of the year. Over the years, we've
20:35
Speaker 7: had businesses donate tablets some of the kids. If you
20:39
Speaker 7: go to the pre off room that are having surgery
20:41
Speaker 7: and stuff like that, sometimes they'll bring a tablet out
20:43
Speaker 7: for the kids to play games on or do something
20:45
Speaker 7: before they go in to have surgery. That's been donated
20:48
Speaker 7: over the years from this event, and there's a lot
20:50
Speaker 7: of stuff that goes on.
20:51
Speaker 4: I would also imagine that you would want for the
20:54
Speaker 4: kids that are in the hospital too, as you've seen
20:58
Speaker 4: any time they're in the hospital. Number One, importantly they're
21:00
Speaker 4: not home. No, so exactly, you want a little bit
21:04
Speaker 4: of a normalcy when it comes to Christmas Morning or
21:06
Speaker 4: just activities that happened because they've been there for so long.
21:09
Speaker 7: Yeah, they have no clue what's going on with them.
21:11
Speaker 7: All they know is they see all these machines going off. Yeah,
21:15
Speaker 7: and you know, it's got to make them feel uncomfortable because,
21:18
Speaker 7: like you said, they ain't at home.
21:21
Speaker 3: Most of the time.
21:22
Speaker 7: When they're not at home, Santa's kids, they want to
21:25
Speaker 7: know how Santa's going to get there too.
21:27
Speaker 3: You know.
21:27
Speaker 7: Wow, we got a guy that dresses up to Santa
21:30
Speaker 7: every year. He's done it for twelve years now.
21:34
Speaker 3: Jimbo.
21:35
Speaker 7: He goes by lock Tight, he dresses up to Santa
21:37
Speaker 7: and rides a bike and he leads us to Women's
21:39
Speaker 7: Children's Hospital.
21:40
Speaker 3: And the visual I have seen that in the past,
21:43
Speaker 3: because our sister station ninety eight seven a month is
21:45
Speaker 3: usually a big part of this, and I've seen that
21:46
Speaker 3: visual in the past of those motorcycles rolling into Women's
21:50
Speaker 3: and children led by Santa Claus and the kids maybe
21:53
Speaker 3: at the windows or so on. You've got kids in
21:55
Speaker 3: the windows waving at us.
21:56
Speaker 7: You got kids holding signs up and then before we leave,
21:59
Speaker 7: we go up with a few of us, will go
22:01
Speaker 7: up with Santa and he'll pass out toys to a
22:04
Speaker 7: few of the kids up there, so they actually get
22:06
Speaker 7: to see Santa before we leave, and some of them
22:10
Speaker 7: actually get to get something from Santa before we leave
22:12
Speaker 7: that day.
22:13
Speaker 3: And again this is happening on December twentieth. The ride
22:15
Speaker 3: is but you've been collecting things really, I think since
22:18
Speaker 3: the first of November, and to'll be doing that through
22:20
Speaker 3: the weekend. There's so many places here. I just mentioned
22:22
Speaker 3: a few of them. Gunnies, Bar and Grill and Nitro,
22:24
Speaker 3: Blizzard's custom Cycles, Generation's Barbershop at South Charleston, Red Lobster,
22:29
Speaker 3: Elk River Bar and Grill See Adam Tony Tire, Fifth Third,
22:32
Speaker 3: Bank Town and Country Lanes, twenty one Pool Room in Cissonville,
22:35
Speaker 3: Reads Barbershop at South Charleston, Gresham Plumbing, Swamp Fox Tavern,
22:40
Speaker 3: Johnson Controls O'Reilly's Auto Parts across Lanes, Smith's Grocery Store.
22:44
Speaker 3: Now if you Family Dollar Stores and Dunbar, Cross Lanes, Kanas, City, Marmette,
22:49
Speaker 3: South Charleston and Charleston, I mean, all these businesses are
22:52
Speaker 3: stepping up. And these are businesses guys that don't have
22:55
Speaker 3: to do this. No, they don't have to.
22:56
Speaker 7: They I get ahold of them to be in of
22:58
Speaker 7: this starting in October, call to make sure that they
23:00
Speaker 7: want to do it again this year. And usually I
23:03
Speaker 7: speak with the general managers or district managers for Dollar
23:07
Speaker 7: General and Family Dollars and stuff like that, and they
23:09
Speaker 7: put all their stores on.
23:10
Speaker 3: Board for it.
23:11
Speaker 4: Is there anything particular that maybe for next year obviously
23:15
Speaker 4: that you really are wanting or needing A short of.
23:22
Speaker 3: DVDs?
23:23
Speaker 4: Okay, wow, DVDs.
23:26
Speaker 7: That's a shortage, yeah, because a lot of the DVDs
23:29
Speaker 7: if you go up to the hospital. In the playroom,
23:31
Speaker 7: they got a wall there that's nothing but like a
23:33
Speaker 7: bookcase of DVDs and you open them.
23:35
Speaker 3: Up and a lot of them are missing, missing, scratch
23:38
Speaker 3: or whatever.
23:39
Speaker 4: Yeah.
23:39
Speaker 7: Interesting, And those kids and the kids in the room
23:42
Speaker 7: up there on the fifth floor, they got TVs and
23:44
Speaker 7: DVD players mounted to the walls so they can actually
23:47
Speaker 7: watch cartoon movies or they can watch movie with their
23:50
Speaker 7: family or something, just like they're at home, like you said.
23:52
Speaker 4: And that should be easy to find. I mean, I
23:54
Speaker 4: know exactly. I got like fifteen to twenty of those things,
23:57
Speaker 4: just obviously. I never look at them out with platforms, and.
24:00
Speaker 3: I think you mean you had those. I had those,
24:02
Speaker 3: you had effective now you no longer have no exactly
24:07
Speaker 3: talk about breaking it down into the age groups for
24:09
Speaker 3: the kids, guys, I mean, because you should get certain
24:12
Speaker 3: things for certain ages.
24:12
Speaker 4: Talk about that.
24:13
Speaker 7: I got on the flyer toys needed for children's ages
24:17
Speaker 7: infant to fifteen years of age. The babies get overlooked
24:21
Speaker 7: a lot, so baby toys, rattlers, anything like that, small
24:26
Speaker 7: stuffed animals that they can see that they can cling to.
24:31
Speaker 3: Just infants.
24:33
Speaker 7: A lot of the infants get overlooked because they're little also,
24:37
Speaker 7: so I mean anything for a baby or something like that,
24:39
Speaker 7: even bright new baby bottles. I mean that might help
24:41
Speaker 7: a family out even during the time.
24:43
Speaker 3: Turn anything away that somebody to do, No, just nothing used.
24:49
Speaker 7: It can be used as long as it's like a
24:51
Speaker 7: dollhouse or a kitchen, plastic kitchen, something that can be
24:54
Speaker 7: wiped off. Right the playroom up there at the hospital.
24:57
Speaker 7: They go in there and they have like door kitchen
25:00
Speaker 7: nets and stuff like that, and as long as they
25:02
Speaker 7: can wipe it off or disinfect it, it'll stay there
25:05
Speaker 7: in that room and kids can go to that room
25:06
Speaker 7: and play with the stuff.
25:07
Speaker 4: Well, a lot of times when it comes to things
25:09
Speaker 4: like that, are people asking for things. Unfortunately, children and
25:13
Speaker 4: infants really get overlooked. Yes, I remember broadcasting and doing
25:16
Speaker 4: things like that and people would bring, you know, socks
25:19
Speaker 4: and stuff for grown ups, but for infants you really
25:22
Speaker 4: had to hit that hard to get it.
25:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's overlooked a lot. I mean it really is,
25:28
Speaker 3: just because of how little they are. And you're talking
25:30
Speaker 3: about things that people could donate that aren't necessarily going
25:34
Speaker 3: to break the bank. And look, if you want to donate,
25:37
Speaker 3: you know an Xbox or one of these things. That's fine.
25:39
Speaker 4: We would love that.
25:40
Speaker 3: However, if you want to just donate some smaller things
25:43
Speaker 3: like that, that would be great as well.
25:45
Speaker 7: Yeah, cordless remotes for xboxes, PlayStations, anything like that. If
25:49
Speaker 7: you got an old PlayStation game set at the house
25:52
Speaker 7: and your kid's got a new PS five and it's
25:55
Speaker 7: two or three years old. I mean, anything that the
25:58
Speaker 7: kids can use in that hospital. Like I said, it
26:01
Speaker 7: all stays local.
26:02
Speaker 3: And you never know.
26:03
Speaker 7: Every one of us have kids or grandkids that might
26:07
Speaker 7: be in there one day, and you never know, you
26:08
Speaker 7: might be in there with your kid or grandkid and
26:12
Speaker 7: end up using something that gets donated.
26:14
Speaker 3: You got a Facebook. I'm presuming somebody can reach out
26:17
Speaker 3: to you on there because there may be people listening
26:19
Speaker 3: to us right now that maybe want to go to
26:21
Speaker 3: one of these places I mentioned. We said you're going
26:22
Speaker 3: to be collecting items there through the weekend, but you'll
26:25
Speaker 3: be doing the ride itself December twentieth. You got to
26:27
Speaker 3: get information out there on social media, guys.
26:29
Speaker 7: The actual Facebook page is Southern West Virginia Toy Ride
26:32
Speaker 7: for CAMC Women's and Children's Hospital. The guys will start
26:36
Speaker 7: picking up the boxes from the drop off locations on
26:38
Speaker 7: the sixteenth, and the toy ride is actually December twentieth.
26:43
Speaker 7: It's a good thing. I mean, we leave Daniel Boom
26:47
Speaker 7: Park about twelve ten, twelve fifteen. We'll gather there between
26:51
Speaker 7: ten and twelve and then we'll say prayer before we leave,
26:54
Speaker 7: and then we'll come down to Boulevard Pennsylvania Avenue and
26:57
Speaker 7: turn into the hospital right there in the loop. All
26:59
Speaker 7: that's required to participate is one new unwrapped toy, something
27:03
Speaker 7: you can drop off to the hospital when you go
27:05
Speaker 7: through the loop. You'll have kids there, you'll have nurses there,
27:09
Speaker 7: you'll have people from the hospital helping collect the toys.
27:12
Speaker 4: And you don't even have to get out of your car. No,
27:14
Speaker 4: that's awesome.
27:15
Speaker 7: It's mostly this is mostly a motorcycle ride. We have
27:20
Speaker 7: a few vehicles that all allowed to ride behind us
27:24
Speaker 7: to pull the trailers and stuff like that.
27:25
Speaker 3: Over the years, we've had a.
27:27
Speaker 7: Twenty six foot enclosed trailer and I think another thirty
27:30
Speaker 7: six foot enclosed trailer. We usually have three to four,
27:33
Speaker 7: sometimes five enclosed trailers full of toys that goes.
27:36
Speaker 3: To that hospital.
27:38
Speaker 4: Now, if I bring some toys, DVD players, which I
27:40
Speaker 4: do have. Can you teach me how to ride a motorcycle?
27:43
Speaker 3: Absolutely? Let's remember you're right, but I want to do
27:47
Speaker 3: wheelies and everything I can do this, Yeah, you might
27:50
Speaker 3: want to try that in a wheelchair first money, you
27:53
Speaker 3: put me in bubble wrap and I'm ready to go.
27:55
Speaker 3: All right, all right, go ahead, and I know you
27:57
Speaker 3: do you want to say something that's we.
27:58
Speaker 4: Wrap it up.
27:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, I do.
27:59
Speaker 7: Got a couple of people i'd like to absolute help
28:00
Speaker 7: outing this every year. Aaron at Charleston Blueprint Market, Appleatch
28:05
Speaker 7: and Mini Storage, Michael Moore, also known as Burnout, Charles Morton, Bootlegger.
28:10
Speaker 7: They've helped put out boxes while I've been at work.
28:14
Speaker 7: J D. Stowers He's gonna probably help pull trailer this year.
28:16
Speaker 7: He helped last year. He on stours body shopping customs.

Speaker 4: All right?
28:44
Speaker 3: What is his nickname going to be? What are you
28:46
Speaker 3: gonna call coach kidd? I think you already named it
28:48
Speaker 3: a second ago?
28:49
Speaker 7: What was it?
28:49
Speaker 3: Coach Delicious or something like that? What'd you say?
28:52
Speaker 4: It was? Easy?
28:55
Speaker 3: All right? Okay, you gave him that one, okay, and
28:59
Speaker 3: my would be what what was it last year? I
29:02

Speaker 3: to continue tomorrow's our station will be in a hurricane
33:17

33:20
Speaker 3: still going on as far as we know. If that changes,
33:23
Speaker 3: we will let you know. Coach Kid has been my
33:27
Speaker 3: co host pleasure. This is fun, dude, This is great, okay,
33:30
Speaker 3: But right before though, I get into some more fun
33:33
Speaker 3: and high jinks and zaniness that you and I are going.
33:36
Speaker 4: To get into on this show this morning. You're a
33:38
Speaker 4: wacky dude. I'm very telling you didn't call that all right.
33:41
Speaker 3: You first reached out to me though about something that
33:45
Speaker 3: you're very passionate about that you wanted to come on
33:47
Speaker 3: the show and talk about today, and then I'll I'll
33:49
Speaker 3: tell the folks how it evolved. Are you hosting the
33:51
Speaker 3: whole show with me today? After that? But go ahead
33:54
Speaker 3: and talk about this.
33:55
Speaker 4: It's merinatho is where I go now? And to church? Yeah,
33:59
Speaker 4: to church and back in twenty fourteen they put on
34:02
Speaker 4: a passion play and then they did another one a
34:06
Speaker 4: little while after that called The Journey, and now we
34:10
Speaker 4: have another one called and I'm drawing a blank, Holy
34:14
Speaker 4: Kyle Ror Advent. There we go. Yeah, I know, yeah,
34:18
Speaker 4: I know, Roor Advent. And basically it's surrounding the Lion,
34:24
Speaker 4: the Wardrobe, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Have you seen
34:28
Speaker 4: that movie, dude? It's amazing. As a matter of fact,
34:31
Speaker 4: I just saw it last night and it's so good.
34:34
Speaker 4: And it's loosely based on that, but there are some
34:36
Speaker 4: things that you would recognize. Tons tons of time have
34:40
Speaker 4: gone into this, just crazy amounts of time. Miss Tammy,
34:44
Speaker 4: which is the pastor Darren's wife, have put it all together,
34:48
Speaker 4: a ton of volunteers and the first show is coming
34:51
Speaker 4: up tomorrow at seven o'clock, and I'm telling you pyrotechnics,
34:56
Speaker 4: we're talking fog, We're talking great a fact, great performances
35:01
Speaker 4: from all the children and the kids that we have
35:04
Speaker 4: in there. I'm telling you it's a top not show.
35:07
Speaker 4: You will not be disappointed, and if you are disappointed,
35:10
Speaker 4: I'll give your money back from the door. Although it's free,
35:13
Speaker 4: that's right, that's right.
35:14
Speaker 3: I mean when you talk about having all that for
35:16
Speaker 3: a play like that or a production like that, this
35:19
Speaker 3: is a long way from what I remember growing up
35:21
Speaker 3: in church wearing my Dallas cowboy robe and which was
35:25
Speaker 3: your first mistake. Yeah, yeah, that's a first mistake. But
35:29
Speaker 3: it's come a long way parently.
35:30
Speaker 4: Well, you know. And again it's it's tons of hours.
35:34
Speaker 4: It's tons of Corey, which is our graphic guy and
35:37
Speaker 4: just all around dude of everything. He spent tons of
35:42
Speaker 4: hours on things, and like I said, you will not
35:45
Speaker 4: be disappointed. To the point where I've seen many plays
35:48
Speaker 4: of the Passion play to the Journey to this one.
35:51
Speaker 4: To me, this one is by far the best one
35:53
Speaker 4: we've put together, especially with all the time, and it's
35:56
Speaker 4: absolutely free to get in. It's at twenty nine to
35:59
Speaker 4: ten Terrace, Marinatha Church is where it's going to be
36:02
Speaker 4: held tomorrow. It'll be seven o'clock Sunday. If you want
36:06
Speaker 4: to come, it's at ten o'clock during service, and then
36:09
Speaker 4: the last two shows are Tuesday and Wednesday. And if
36:13
Speaker 4: you have like ten or more you can reserve seats.
36:17
Speaker 4: Can you just call the church?
36:18
Speaker 3: I just to say that's how they do.
36:20
Speaker 4: That is mfc net dot com. You can, you can
36:23
Speaker 4: MFC dot net.
36:24
Speaker 3: I should sall right, we'll talk about that a little
36:25

36:53
Speaker 3: long as you and I have known each other. Yeah,
36:55
Speaker 3: as far as I know, this is the first time.
36:57
Speaker 3: And I might be wrong. Maybe we did something I
36:59
Speaker 3: don't remember, uh somewhere, which is highly possible. I think
37:02
Speaker 3: it was the first time we've ever been on microphone
37:04
Speaker 3: at the same time.
37:05
Speaker 4: No, that is not correct. Okay, that's I did a
37:09
Speaker 4: you were I think it was either your client or
37:12
Speaker 4: you were a part of it out at Putnam Valley
37:14
Speaker 4: and there was an art show that they were they
37:16
Speaker 4: hung they hung like wire or and they put there
37:21
Speaker 4: and I had you on the air at that time.
37:22
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, I forgot about that. Yeah, you're absolutely
37:24
Speaker 3: right about it. They still trap up here. I gets
37:26
Speaker 3: my mine's a little rusted. Yeah, it's okay, But I remember, yeah,
37:29
Speaker 3: actually I do remember that.
37:30
Speaker 2: Now.
37:30
Speaker 3: You were out there with the other guys, and I
37:32
Speaker 3: was there with the Putnam County Tourism folks. I was
37:35
Speaker 3: the head of the Putnam Tourism Board for a few terms,
37:38
Speaker 3: and that's why I was out there for that, all right.
37:39
Speaker 3: So but in a conventional setting, down studio setting, the
37:42
Speaker 3: first time we ever started, all right, So, how did
37:45
Speaker 3: the Charleston radio market get lucky enough to have you come.
37:50
Speaker 3: Did we lose a.
37:51
Speaker 11: Bat or.
37:54
Speaker 2: What was?
37:54
Speaker 6: What?
37:55
Speaker 3: What was it alleged you to try?
37:56
Speaker 4: They just threw darts and went up, Okay, we'll take him.
38:00
Speaker 3: So you're a Michigan guy, obviously, as he's sitting here
38:02
Speaker 3: with his Detroit Tigers baseball cap and your and your
38:06
Speaker 3: Michigan quarters zip here. So what was it led you
38:09
Speaker 3: to West Virginia?
38:10
Speaker 4: It was I was in Sue Saint Marie. Have you
38:12
Speaker 4: heard of sus Saint Marie. It's up in the upper
38:15
Speaker 4: peninsula of Michigan. And I was working as a production
38:18
Speaker 4: director up there at wyss S FM. And a guy
38:24
Speaker 4: that worked over at was it a B ninety four,
38:29
Speaker 4: remember back in the day when that was there, And
38:31
Speaker 4: he called me and he said, hey, they're looking for
38:33
Speaker 4: an afternoon guy on the station electric and I said, okay.
38:37
Speaker 4: So I sent him my stuff. And this was back
38:39
Speaker 4: in the day when you would send cassette case and
38:42
Speaker 4: your resume and a picture and all this, you know,
38:45
Speaker 4: stuff that you took in the kitchen, you know, as
38:47
Speaker 4: far as your buckshot or whatever. And I sent it
38:50
Speaker 4: down and then the late Bill Shahan he gave me
38:54
Speaker 4: a call and but this is the interesting part. Jeff Whitehead,
38:58
Speaker 4: and I love him and respect him like a father.
39:01
Speaker 4: He called me, Now, mind you, I'm in Michigan and
39:04
Speaker 4: I don't have a Southern accent and all that, but
39:07
Speaker 4: he called me and he said, Jeff's Jeff Wyhead. Now
39:11
Speaker 4: I mean that in all due respect. But I remember
39:13
Speaker 4: hearing his voice going what have I done? Where am
39:17
Speaker 4: I going? All I could picture was him his cowboy
39:21
Speaker 4: boots on the edge of the desk, cowboy hat and
39:23
Speaker 4: a bolo with a cigar, going hey, we want you
39:26
Speaker 4: to come on down here. He ain't from here, No,
39:28
Speaker 4: it took me three planes to get down here, but
39:32
Speaker 4: I came down and I remember this. I remember coming
39:35
Speaker 4: out of the airport and coming around on Greenbrier to
39:38
Speaker 4: get over on sixty four, and I remember seeing the
39:41
Speaker 4: city and I remember it like it was yesterday, and
39:43
Speaker 4: I went, this is it. This is where I want
39:45
Speaker 4: to be. Really, I kid you not. I remember it,
39:48
Speaker 4: and I still travel that obviously, and every time I
39:50
Speaker 4: look at the skyline, I go, yep, this is where
39:53
Speaker 4: I want. And I left a couple times, but it's
39:55
Speaker 4: always brought me back, and I love it here.
39:58
Speaker 3: I love hearing stories about people who aren't from here,
40:02
Speaker 3: but either adopt it, yeah, or people that leave and
40:06
Speaker 3: come back, or they leave and are always trying to
40:09
Speaker 3: work their way back home.
40:10
Speaker 4: And I've heard those stories before. I left first and
40:13
Speaker 4: I went to UH. I went to Texas, Austin, Texas. Basically,
40:17
Speaker 4: I went to Texas and turned on the light, grabbed
40:20
Speaker 4: a sandwich and said, now I don't like it here.
40:21
Speaker 4: I'm going to come on back home. It does and
40:26
Speaker 4: I didn't like it, and it was it was culture
40:28
Speaker 4: shocked to me. I was far from my family. It
40:30
Speaker 4: was during the holidays. I'll give you this. I was
40:32
Speaker 4: in Texas the weekend of Thanksgiving and I was back
40:37
Speaker 4: here in West Virginia on New Year's Day, moved all
40:41
Speaker 4: my stuff, everything in the back of you haul. I
40:44
Speaker 4: called up the radio station. They said, yep, come on back.
40:46
Speaker 4: Matter of fact, animal he took over the show, or
40:49
Speaker 4: was going to. And then I made the phone call
40:52
Speaker 4: and they're like, okay, coaches coming back. You can't have
40:54
Speaker 4: the show.
40:56
Speaker 3: That's amazing. It's amazing.
40:57
Speaker 4: He still talks to you. I know it is. Yeah.
40:59
Speaker 4: And another time I went and I went to be
41:02
Speaker 4: production director at Kiss FM ninety two to one Kiss
41:06
Speaker 4: FM in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and that was working out. I
41:09
Speaker 4: loved it there. It was nice, but I was married.
41:12
Speaker 4: I was married at the time, and she wanted to
41:15
Speaker 4: go back home and my again, theory family first, okay,
41:19
Speaker 4: And it wasn't It wasn't like, oh, I gotta quit this.
41:22
Speaker 4: And I realized one thing, those are bigger markets than here.
41:25
Speaker 4: But after I've realized those markets mean nothing compared to
41:29
Speaker 4: what you're happy with. And I was happy with being
41:32
Speaker 4: in Charleston, West Virginia, and I'm still happy here and
41:35
Speaker 4: I will not move for anything else. I will stay home.
41:38
Speaker 3: All right. Yeah, well that's good stuff and I love
41:41
Speaker 3: to hear those stories. So how long total were you
41:45
Speaker 3: I mean not counting when you left came back. How
41:47
Speaker 3: long total were you on the air in Charles?
41:49
Speaker 4: Twenty seven years? Twenty seven years? All right?
41:51
Speaker 3: What was it about this crazy circus that we're in
41:54
Speaker 3: that led you in as a young kid of a
41:56
Speaker 3: boy that made you say I want to do that
41:58
Speaker 3: because we've all got those stories. I got mine, listeners
42:01
Speaker 3: have heard mine, but I want to hear yours.
42:03
Speaker 4: What is so?
42:03
Speaker 3: What was it about this medium that appealed to you
42:06
Speaker 3: to begin with?
42:06
Speaker 4: Well, the the the interesting thing that the medium didn't
42:09
Speaker 4: do anything for me, and I'll and I'll talk about
42:12
Speaker 4: that in a second. But radio was just one of
42:15
Speaker 4: those things. I remember hearing rick o'she I remember hearing
42:19
Speaker 4: Scott Shannon, he was down there. He came to my school,
42:22
Speaker 4: did speech class. And I got my first taste when
42:25
Speaker 4: he came into my speech class because they brought this
42:27
Speaker 4: little recorder and on the recorder was the one O two.
42:32
Speaker 4: It was w IOG one O two jingle Weather jingle
42:36
Speaker 4: and you had to what we call in the business,
42:38
Speaker 4: a don it. So it has a beginning has just music,
42:40
Speaker 4: and then it has an out with another jingle, and
42:43
Speaker 4: so he he said, anybody want to try it? So
42:45
Speaker 4: I went up and I nailed it, you know, from
42:48
Speaker 4: and I didn't know the time. I just did weather
42:50
Speaker 4: and I was like hmm. And then I decided, you
42:52
Speaker 4: know what, I want to be an intern. I woke
42:55
Speaker 4: up one day. I woke up and I said, I
42:57
Speaker 4: think I want to be an intern at a radio station.
42:59
Speaker 4: And I went into the first radio station and they said, no,
43:02
Speaker 4: you have to have an aircheck, you have to have this.
43:04
Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't know anything about that stuff. And
43:06
Speaker 4: then I went to another one. It was Cars one
43:08
Speaker 4: O eight, went there and they said, yeah, we're happening
43:11
Speaker 4: to you know, looking for a production intern. And that's
43:14
Speaker 4: what I became. But it was perfect for me because
43:16
Speaker 4: I lived at home. I was twenty one years old,
43:19
Speaker 4: and I ate it. I drank it, I slept it.
43:23
Speaker 4: I was there from six in the morning till almost midnight,
43:26
Speaker 4: went back home, got four hours of sleep, back up,
43:28
Speaker 4: and I'm talking springing out of bed to go do
43:32
Speaker 4: this thing. And all I was was an intern. But
43:34
Speaker 4: it worked out perfect because I was home and my
43:36
Speaker 4: parents would help pay for gas. And I was in
43:38
Speaker 4: college at the time, working at the w MCC, which
43:42
Speaker 4: was the college radio station. It was Mock Community College.
43:45
Speaker 3: That's and all of us I think that do this
43:48
Speaker 3: and have a passion about it, are the same way
43:50
Speaker 3: I drove at one point for one job, I drove
43:53
Speaker 3: thirty seven and a half miles one way to make
43:55
Speaker 3: minimum wage. Oh yeah, that's either dedication or that's just
43:59
Speaker 3: freaking crazy.
44:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, it becomes a passionate. And even though I've been
44:02
Speaker 4: out of radio, and as you said, we'll talk about that,
44:05
Speaker 4: but I've been out of radio for a year and
44:07
Speaker 4: a half. I miss it, and the thing was is
44:11
Speaker 4: that it really just became about family. But at the
44:13
Speaker 4: same time, it's in you and I've heard it, and
44:17
Speaker 4: it will stay in you until your last day. You
44:20
Speaker 4: will always have that radio bug.
44:21
Speaker 3: Kind of like a fungus.

48:26
Speaker 4: I can whistle through my teeth.
48:30
Speaker 3: Okay, your best friend in fourth grade it would be
48:35
Speaker 3: Dave Blackburn. What's your middle name?
48:37
Speaker 4: Earl?
48:39
Speaker 3: Destined to be in West.
48:40
Speaker 4: Virginia with an E at the end.
48:44
Speaker 3: Oh for them? That's got money?
48:47
Speaker 7: All right?
48:48
Speaker 3: All right, you're driving across the country and you can
48:51
Speaker 3: only listen to one artist? Who is it?
48:53
Speaker 4: Bon Jovi?
48:55
Speaker 3: Had you not been on the radio or now you're
48:57
Speaker 3: in the school system, we'll close with that. What career
49:00
Speaker 3: would you have taken?
49:01
Speaker 4: Bible philosophy? Your first car? A Sunbird, a Pontiac Sunbird.
49:07
Speaker 3: A film you can do the majority of lines from.
49:09
Speaker 4: Oh that's easy. That A few good men?
49:12
Speaker 3: Last one, knowing that you're a huge Michigan guy, which
49:15
Speaker 3: we talked about earlier, how much money would it take
49:19
Speaker 3: for you to stand on the Capitol steps dressed in
49:22
Speaker 3: all Ohio state gear?
49:24
Speaker 4: Millions? Millions?
49:27
Speaker 3: You have completed ten questions. Congratulations, So tell people what
49:31
Speaker 3: it is that you're doing in the school system now
49:33
Speaker 3: and you're off today. By the way, you're not skipping,
49:35
Speaker 3: you're off today.
49:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, like Mohawks said, dude, it's they're they're on pins
49:39
Speaker 4: and needles about calling off school or going to school.
49:43
Speaker 4: All right, but yeah, I'm driving a school bus. And
49:46
Speaker 4: one of the reasons why I wanted to do that
49:48
Speaker 4: was when my son Christopher is off, then I'm off,
49:53
Speaker 4: and I wanted to spend some more time with family.
49:55
Speaker 4: This year was my first summer off, and dude, I'm
50:00
Speaker 4: telling you to have a whole summer off. It was incredible.
50:03
Speaker 3: Just say, dude, that's all you get it. I mean,
50:05
Speaker 3: because year round is busy in radio, but especially during
50:08
Speaker 3: the summer summer it's.
50:09
Speaker 4: A whole And it was funny because a lot of
50:12
Speaker 4: people that I know were like, oh, summer's coming. I
50:13
Speaker 4: would dread it like I don't want something.
50:16
Speaker 3: I got to go and we have. Don't get me wrong,
50:18
Speaker 3: we love doing it, but we also love our.
50:21
Speaker 4: Time absolutely absolutely. I mean, as you said, you just
50:23
Speaker 4: love laying on the couch and sometimes that is few
50:26
Speaker 4: and far between, just chilling out. But yeah, I'm driving
50:28
Speaker 4: a school bus. I do love it. I love the
50:30
Speaker 4: interaction with kids.
50:31
Speaker 5: Uh.
50:32
Speaker 4: Sometimes it can be very very challenging where I kind
50:35
Speaker 4: of want to just take the bus off a cliff,
50:38
Speaker 4: but I don't. I don't hr he's kidding. I'm kidding. No,
50:42
Speaker 4: he's just kidding. When you're a bus driver, you have
50:45
Speaker 4: all kinds of hats on. You know, you're disciplinary, you're
50:48
Speaker 4: watching in the mirror, you're driving social worker, all of that.
50:51
Speaker 4: It is very, very very challenging. But we get your
50:54
Speaker 4: kids safe and and and I know I'm biased when
50:56
Speaker 4: I say this real quick, but I will say this,
50:58
Speaker 4: I don't think the public really knows what bus drivers do.
51:03
Speaker 4: I think we are just known as bus drivers. We
51:06
Speaker 4: are very much responsible for the safety of your kids.
51:10
Speaker 4: And there are a lot of things we have to
51:12
Speaker 4: do on the bus to make sure we don't have
51:15
Speaker 4: an E. I don't have an eight on my bus.
51:16
Speaker 4: It's just me, So I'm looking in that mirror constantly.
51:19
Speaker 4: Other merors I have like ten to fifteen mers I
51:22
Speaker 4: have to work at and try to make sure navigate
51:25
Speaker 4: the road, navigate what I have, and you know who's
51:28
Speaker 4: in behind me.
