- 0:08Speaker 1: What is Up My loves It is a La La
- 0:10Speaker 1: Kent on like Give Them Lala podcast with Randall. Here
- 0:14Speaker 1: we are. I can't believe that we have a legend
- 0:19Speaker 1: on the podcast today. She is best known for her
- 0:24Speaker 1: role on full House and then Fuller House, and she's
- 0:30Speaker 1: also a part of my little tribe in sobriety. So
- 0:36Speaker 1: we're going to keep this intro very short and sweetened.
- 0:40Speaker 2: You just gave it away.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It's my mom joke. We have Jody Sweeten. Yes, we're
- 0:46Speaker 1: gonna deep dive into all things Jody. I can't wait
- 0:48Speaker 1: to pick her brain, know what it was like to
- 0:50Speaker 1: be a child star and what her journey has been
- 0:54Speaker 1: in sobriety and helping others.
- 0:56Speaker 3: So we have Jody Sweeten on today, which we're both
- 0:59Speaker 3: excited about because Fuller House and full House was full
- 1:03Speaker 3: House was my generation and Fuller House is your generation.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Did you ever see full House when you were younger?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, of course you saw full House? Oh yeah, but
- 1:11Speaker 2: you got to be like zero or two years.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I think it came out before I was born, but
- 1:15Speaker 1: I've definitely seen it. I'm a huge Olsen Twin fan.
- 1:18Speaker 3: So well, we are very excited to have Jodie Sweeten today,
- 1:21Speaker 3: she is a total legend on every level. I think
- 1:25Speaker 3: how old was she when she was on the original?
- 1:27Speaker 1: I think she may have started at four or five,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and now she is definitely.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Young, and today she is.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Probably damn I think she might be like in her
- 1:38Speaker 1: late thirties, thirties.
- 1:40Speaker 3: You know, what's amazing to be on a TV show
- 1:43Speaker 3: that was one of the biggest hits in television for
- 1:45Speaker 3: whatever amount of years as a child, not even being
- 1:48Speaker 3: able to remember it, you know what I mean, because
- 1:50Speaker 3: at four or five, what do you remember? And now
- 1:53Speaker 3: being again like reinvented in the same show. I don't
- 1:56Speaker 3: has that ever happened before.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I think it's really hard to to recreate a show
- 2:02Speaker 1: that has already existed and kind of do some sort
- 2:05Speaker 1: of sequel to it. So when I saw Fuller House,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I was actually shook how good it was, how cute.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I didn't even see it's that good fun.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it's definitely cute.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Well, I'm excited to have her on.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I'm excited to have this podcast today and to just
- 2:22Speaker 3: celebrate your sobriety and her sobriety because this week is
- 2:27Speaker 3: your three year sobriety.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yep, I'm gonna go with my girlfriends to celebrate three
- 2:32Speaker 1: years on Friday.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Again.
- 2:33Speaker 1: It's I love one day at a time, but I
- 2:39Speaker 1: fully intend on celebrating on Friday my three years of sobriety.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I've come a very long way. Tonight, I'm finally getting
- 2:48Speaker 1: to do the signing of my book Give Them Lalla,
- 2:52Speaker 1: which is huge. I'm gonna thank you. I'm going to
- 2:55Speaker 1: have a little get together after with my girlfriends.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Just it.
- 2:59Speaker 1: It's a week of really celebrating you the cool shit
- 3:02Speaker 1: I've done.
- 3:03Speaker 2: And I want to.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Say something about your book. The fact that you launched
- 3:06Speaker 3: your book in a time of a pandemic where there
- 3:09Speaker 3: was no you know, like interaction with your fans. I
- 3:14Speaker 3: give you a lot of love and a lot of respect,
- 3:16Speaker 3: and I'm really proud of you. So kick ass tonight
- 3:18Speaker 3: with your book signing party.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It's going to be a big night for you. So
- 3:22Speaker 2: you deserve it. Yeah, So I take off my hat
- 3:25Speaker 2: to you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 3:27Speaker 4: I'm very excited.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I hope everyone enjoyed last night's episode of vander Pump Rules.
- 3:33Speaker 1: We're going to cut to a short break and we
- 3:34Speaker 1: will be back with Jody Sweeten.
- 3:38Speaker 4: We are back with Jody Sweeten. Oh my gosh, Yes,
- 3:45Speaker 4: I'm Randall loves the Goods. So I have to say
- 3:53Speaker 4: you obviously I grew up watching you on TV. And
- 3:58Speaker 4: it's so crazy that my hold on, hold on, no,
- 4:01Speaker 4: we're gonna jump in, but I have to tote I
- 4:03Speaker 4: have to toute my guest horn before we move on, because.
- 4:08Speaker 5: Well tuned away my friend to any Day.
- 4:11Speaker 4: So then my two step kids, not only are they
- 4:14Speaker 4: obsessed with full House, they're obsessed with Fuller House. Is
- 4:18Speaker 4: it so crazy that you have a show that stands
- 4:22Speaker 4: the test of time?
- 4:23Speaker 5: You know, it really is.
- 4:25Speaker 6: I know there have been a ton of reboots, and
- 4:28Speaker 6: you know, some have been super successful and some kind
- 4:31Speaker 6: of came and went, but Fuller House was really one
- 4:36Speaker 6: of the first of those, I think.
- 4:37Speaker 2: And it was really taken a chance.
- 4:39Speaker 3: You know.
- 4:39Speaker 6: We've pitched it to a lot of places and they
- 4:43Speaker 6: were like, you know, we think there's an audience for this,
- 4:44Speaker 6: and we we knew it as as cast members. We
- 4:47Speaker 6: were like, you guys have to tap into this, Like
- 4:49Speaker 6: there's such a huge audience out there.
- 4:51Speaker 5: And I'm so.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Grateful that something that I love to do, that I've
- 4:57Speaker 6: had so much fun doing that has been such a
- 4:59Speaker 6: wonderful part of my life has connected with people in
- 5:03Speaker 6: the way that it has.
- 5:04Speaker 5: You know, Full House is something.
- 5:06Speaker 6: I mean, I'm so grateful for the fans and that
- 5:10Speaker 6: I got to come back and do this as an adult.
- 5:13Speaker 6: You know, I had sort of walked away and was
- 5:15Speaker 6: a normal person land, you know, I was, I had
- 5:18Speaker 6: a normal job and was just doing my deal, and
- 5:20Speaker 6: then this opportunity came along. So it's been it's been
- 5:23Speaker 6: quite a wild ride.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:26Speaker 4: So when you say you had a normal person job,
- 5:28Speaker 4: what was that.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I was working in treatment. I worked at several treatment centers.
- 5:32Speaker 6: I was a director of operations, so I had you know,
- 5:35Speaker 6: gone back to school and gotten my certificate for drugon
- 5:39Speaker 6: alcohol counseling. I was working in drugon alcohol treatment and
- 5:42Speaker 6: I really thought my plan was going to be more
- 5:45Speaker 6: moving into case management and becoming a therapist, which is still.
- 5:49Speaker 5: That's the thing that I would probably love to do,
- 5:52Speaker 5: you know, other than my acting.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:54Speaker 5: But I was a director of operations.
- 5:56Speaker 6: I had you know a big staff of people under
- 5:58Speaker 6: me and was trying to run the daily operations of
- 6:01Speaker 6: a lot of recovery houses.
- 6:04Speaker 5: And you know, it was fun.
- 6:06Speaker 6: And it was a challenge and it was something that
- 6:08Speaker 6: I had never done before.
- 6:10Speaker 5: And then you know, I'll say when I.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Was directing, I got to direct an episode of Floorhouse,
- 6:17Speaker 6: I realized how much more confidence I had because I
- 6:22Speaker 6: had been in a position of kind of running something before.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I was like, okay, there's just a.
- 6:29Speaker 6: Lot of moving parts, like I can do this, and
- 6:30Speaker 6: it really it was amazing to me.
- 6:32Speaker 5: I was like, oh, I'm so grateful for that period
- 6:33Speaker 5: of my life.
- 6:34Speaker 4: That's amazing.
- 6:35Speaker 7: I just want to say it. First of all, you
- 6:37Speaker 7: said you grew up on that show. Yes, I am old.
- 6:40Speaker 7: I grew up on your show.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:42Speaker 7: She was like zero. Okay, Now I know she's a
- 6:45Speaker 7: fan because she does watch. She does watch with my
- 6:48Speaker 7: with with her step kids. She does watch it religiously
- 6:52Speaker 7: like she is in there. She educated them and by
- 6:56Speaker 7: the way, I never thought like my nine year old,
- 6:58Speaker 7: my sorry, my my.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Seven year old year old and my eleven year old
- 7:01Speaker 2: would ever and then they come home like we're watching
- 7:03Speaker 2: full House with La La.
- 7:04Speaker 4: And it was when I had to educate them and
- 7:06Speaker 4: show them that it was a show before, and then
- 7:08Speaker 4: they became obsessed with that.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, it's got to get a little bit of
- 7:11Speaker 5: the history.
- 7:11Speaker 6: I mean, the thing about older that was sort of
- 7:13Speaker 6: nice that we tried to do was like you could
- 7:15Speaker 6: just start watching.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That show anywhere without anywhere.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Necessarily, like it helps to have the background in the
- 7:21Speaker 6: first eight seasons, but it wasn't necessary, right, only field.
- 7:26Speaker 7: But yeah, But what I like about law is that
- 7:28Speaker 7: she really does love like old school shit. She loves
- 7:33Speaker 7: so the fact that my kids are even educated now
- 7:36Speaker 7: is just the coolest thing.
- 7:37Speaker 2: But I did grow up on your show.
- 7:39Speaker 7: And in nineteen eighty seven, I was, you know, rocking
- 7:41Speaker 7: at like sixteen years old, seventeen years old, so I
- 7:45Speaker 7: was in it to win it when you like were
- 7:46Speaker 7: what zero, like.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Three on that show? How old were you when you started?
- 7:50Speaker 5: I started? I started that show when I was I
- 7:52Speaker 5: just tried to find five.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why I thought five.
- 7:55Speaker 7: Yeah, So tell me tell me because obviously I've been
- 7:57Speaker 7: in the business a long time now, not not from
- 8:00Speaker 7: when I was five. What is it like to be
- 8:02Speaker 7: on a show for eight years or whatever it was
- 8:05Speaker 7: and then another five years? Like when you walk down
- 8:09Speaker 7: the street at that age, do people know you everywhere?
- 8:12Speaker 7: Was it like that kind of mayhem of celebrity?
- 8:15Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 8:15Speaker 6: When I was younger, Like when the show I'm saying,
- 8:18Speaker 6: like the fifth sixth season, it got really like it
- 8:21Speaker 6: was everywhere, and when you know, when Fuller House came out,
- 8:24Speaker 6: I mean we did such a huge launch. We were
- 8:28Speaker 6: traveling all over the place. And then you know, subsequent
- 8:31Speaker 6: seasons we traveled to Japan and we did you know,
- 8:33Speaker 6: we did.
- 8:33Speaker 5: A lot of stuff, and it's it is crazy and
- 8:36Speaker 5: it's crazy. It's crazy to go to a foreign country.
- 8:39Speaker 6: And get in a cab in Japan and watch you
- 8:43Speaker 6: as yourself on the TV in the cab dubbed over
- 8:47Speaker 6: in Jeopanese.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Wow, that would be crazy.
- 8:50Speaker 6: And like literally sleeping at your hotel like it's you know,
- 8:53Speaker 6: that kind of.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Steps me is wild when I think about it.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Of course, I don't live like.
- 8:58Speaker 5: Some fancy crazy see life. I like my my normal
- 9:03Speaker 5: life totally, and so it's just funny to me. And
- 9:05Speaker 5: I'm like, oh my god, people who land that's so weird, right,
- 9:08Speaker 5: Like you.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Have kind of an out of body experience and you're like,
- 9:10Speaker 4: what is life? I'm really confused. So at five years
- 9:14Speaker 4: old you start on this show, you know, at that
- 9:17Speaker 4: point in time, that's when most kids, I would say
- 9:21Speaker 4: five is when they like start playing teacher, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 4: whatever they've seen. They play dolls. When did you know,
- 9:27Speaker 4: like I want to be creating characters and be on TV,
- 9:32Speaker 4: like did it just fall in your lap?
- 9:34Speaker 6: I was like three years old when I told my
- 9:36Speaker 6: mom I wanted to be on TV. I used to
- 9:38Speaker 6: call the people on TV modelers and I would say, Mommy, I.
- 9:41Speaker 5: Want to be a modeler. I really want to be
- 9:42Speaker 5: a modeler.
- 9:44Speaker 6: And I was, you know, I was the kid that
- 9:49Speaker 6: you know, would run into the room of adults with
- 9:51Speaker 6: a harmonica and start playing some little made up song
- 9:54Speaker 6: and sing for everyone and then be like, hen, thank you,
- 9:57Speaker 6: and you know, exit the room.
- 9:59Speaker 5: You know, I pushed my way to the front of
- 10:01Speaker 5: my first dance recital because apparently I thought that the
- 10:04Speaker 5: girls in the front were just not bringing me to
- 10:07Speaker 5: stuff to stuff.
- 10:09Speaker 6: So you know, if my mom saw things like this,
- 10:11Speaker 6: and she saw you know, I was extremely luckily bright
- 10:14Speaker 6: for my age.
- 10:15Speaker 5: I mean I was reading, fully reading by the time
- 10:17Speaker 5: I was three years old. I had read books. I
- 10:20Speaker 5: could do all that. So you know, when I was
- 10:22Speaker 5: auditioning and stuff, I was the four year old.
- 10:24Speaker 6: We could walk into a room and all the people
- 10:26Speaker 6: script and read it, and you know, there were not
- 10:29Speaker 6: many kids at that age that could do that.
- 10:31Speaker 5: So I loved it from the beginning. It was always
- 10:34Speaker 5: something I wanted to do.
- 10:35Speaker 6: I loved to perform, and being somebody whose brain works
- 10:42Speaker 6: like you know, in hyperdrive most of the time, I
- 10:45Speaker 6: needed a lot going on.
- 10:47Speaker 5: I loved excitement and change and creativity and all of that.
- 10:50Speaker 6: So it really was, I think, for me, the perfect
- 10:56Speaker 6: place to come of age. And you know it brought
- 11:01Speaker 6: with it its difficulties too. You're like the normal existence.
- 11:05Speaker 7: But when you were ten eleven and you're at the
- 11:07Speaker 7: height of your fame for that show, which I assume
- 11:10Speaker 7: is like ten to twelve, you were like thriving.
- 11:13Speaker 2: You want that? I mean, where are the Where do
- 11:15Speaker 2: the difficulties lie there?
- 11:17Speaker 7: Because being a ten year old, like for my daughter
- 11:19Speaker 7: being an eleven year old, you know, we go to
- 11:21Speaker 7: the mall and the biggest conflict she'll see or the
- 11:23Speaker 7: biggest weird initial see is people will come up to Lalla,
- 11:26Speaker 7: or they'll come up to me and say, oh.
- 11:27Speaker 2: My god, we like you, or fans of that show
- 11:29Speaker 2: or whatever.
- 11:30Speaker 7: But to be the person at eleven years old where
- 11:33Speaker 7: they're coming up to you that's got to be just
- 11:36Speaker 7: awkward on every level, is it not?
- 11:38Speaker 5: Or yeah, for sure.
- 11:41Speaker 6: I you know, it's funny because as outwilling as I am,
- 11:46Speaker 6: you know, I definitely can be an introvert. I definitely, Like,
- 11:50Speaker 6: you know, growing up, there were times when it was like,
- 11:53Speaker 6: oh my god, I wish like I just want to
- 11:56Speaker 6: blend into the wallpaper.
- 11:58Speaker 5: I just want to be right in the.
- 11:59Speaker 6: Back round, you know, because every new class that I
- 12:02Speaker 6: went into, or a new school that I went into,
- 12:04Speaker 6: or you know, went to the mall, it was like never,
- 12:09Speaker 6: you know, I can go You can't go out to
- 12:11Speaker 6: eat with your family and not.
- 12:12Speaker 5: Have someone interrupt you while you're in the middle of kin.
- 12:15Speaker 5: You know. The thing was as a kid, it was
- 12:17Speaker 5: really hard because I.
- 12:19Speaker 6: Didn't I don't know, and I guess even as an adult,
- 12:21Speaker 6: like I said, I just I'm like relatively ambivalent and
- 12:27Speaker 6: sort of unimpressed.
- 12:28Speaker 5: By celebrity and and fanciness and all of that.
- 12:31Speaker 6: So like it's just so crazy to me when when
- 12:34Speaker 6: people come up and I'm like, oh my god, like
- 12:37Speaker 6: it's it's weird. And as an eleven year old kid,
- 12:39Speaker 6: and I don't think you can really process sort.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Of that loss of privacy.
- 12:44Speaker 6: But I will say I am forever grateful that I
- 12:46Speaker 6: grew up in the era before smartphones, as I hated
- 12:53Speaker 6: as a kid. It was one of the things and
- 12:55Speaker 6: still is in this day when papassey. One of the
- 12:58Speaker 6: weirdest things is when someone's taking your picture when you're
- 13:01Speaker 6: just trying to exist, yeah, and it feels so invasive.
- 13:05Speaker 6: And I remember feeling like that as a kid, feeling
- 13:07Speaker 6: like there were times when I was like I don't
- 13:09Speaker 6: want to be on you know, right, but also knowing
- 13:13Speaker 6: and being so incredibly grateful for those people and hearing
- 13:16Speaker 6: those stories and seeing people that this show meant so
- 13:18Speaker 6: much too. I felt that as a kid, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 6: being a very impacted, sensitive kid.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Like I took that on.
- 13:25Speaker 6: So I knew almost that there was like this big
- 13:28Speaker 6: responsibility of what this show meant to be, and I
- 13:30Speaker 6: was so grateful for that.
- 13:33Speaker 5: But I also had times when I was like I
- 13:34Speaker 5: just want to like walk into a.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Room and like slip it and not have every kid
- 13:39Speaker 4: in the room go like oh right, Like what a
- 13:43Speaker 4: conflict to battle as an eleven year old where you're
- 13:46Speaker 4: like I just want to be normal, But then you
- 13:48Speaker 4: have people that are like your show is changing my life.
- 13:51Speaker 4: It's like, and you want to be able to say
- 13:53Speaker 4: I don't want all of this. That's cut, Like, I
- 13:56Speaker 4: just want to.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Do my art right.
- 13:58Speaker 5: And you know, I don't know that at that age
- 14:00Speaker 5: that it even felt like that.
- 14:02Speaker 6: I think sometimes it too, is almost more reflective when
- 14:06Speaker 6: I think about it.
- 14:06Speaker 5: At the time, right, you were just in it. You
- 14:09Speaker 5: were in it at the time. It was just my existence.
- 14:11Speaker 6: I didn't you know, for me, five to thirteen was
- 14:14Speaker 6: when I was on full House, and so that was
- 14:18Speaker 6: like my formative years, right, that was all of.
- 14:20Speaker 5: My corentry in middle school years. So I don't really
- 14:23Speaker 5: have a whole ton of life and.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Memories before these people were in my life, and before
- 14:29Speaker 6: that was just sort of what I did.
- 14:32Speaker 2: And when you left was really.
- 14:34Speaker 5: Until I was an adult.
- 14:35Speaker 6: But I was like, oh, I see those feelings and
- 14:37Speaker 6: seeing where that like and pleasing and you know all
- 14:41Speaker 6: that kind of stuff. You know, I can talk to
- 14:43Speaker 6: you guys about this and you know this journey of
- 14:46Speaker 6: of getting through life and sobriety and all that kind
- 14:49Speaker 6: of stuff. But I think as an adult you reflect
- 14:50Speaker 6: on and you're like, oh, I see where this desire
- 14:53Speaker 6: to I just want to make everyone happy because that's
- 14:55Speaker 6: my role, that's you know, my job where that came
- 14:59Speaker 6: into play. And at the same time, like having an
- 15:03Speaker 6: awesome childhood. You know, I was surrounded by love. Our
- 15:06Speaker 6: past was amazing. Let's go to the White House formations, Bob.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I mean, it doesn't get any.
- 15:16Speaker 5: Better by side, Like I really, I have these amazing
- 15:21Speaker 5: things too.
- 15:21Speaker 6: So it wasn't like somehow I hated it and just
- 15:24Speaker 6: like plugged through it. It was what made me feel alive.
- 15:28Speaker 6: And I never feel more at home.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Than I do when I'm on set. When you when
- 15:33Speaker 5: you realize, like, oh yeah, not everybody went through that it,
- 15:37Speaker 5: you know, you realize you have a very different perspective
- 15:39Speaker 5: of life.
- 15:40Speaker 7: Yes, when the show, when the show ended, this is
- 15:43Speaker 7: the question when you're thirteen years old and you've been
- 15:45Speaker 7: in this crazy machine, you know, big publicity machine.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Bit.
- 15:50Speaker 7: You know, you're at a studio every day taping. You
- 15:53Speaker 7: know your life is the farthest thing from normalcy, but
- 15:57Speaker 7: it was your normal.
- 15:58Speaker 2: What happens when it.
- 15:59Speaker 7: All gets quiet for a minute, you know, when you're
- 16:01Speaker 7: thirteen years old, I mean, is it easy to adjust
- 16:04Speaker 7: into the next press?
- 16:06Speaker 6: I mean, there's definitely an adjustment period. But I think
- 16:09Speaker 6: at that point, you know, I was just starting high school,
- 16:11Speaker 6: and I was really fortunate in that our producers worked
- 16:16Speaker 6: with us as kids to make sure that we were
- 16:19Speaker 6: able to if we wanted to attend normal school. Oh
- 16:25Speaker 6: and it also worked out really well for me because
- 16:27Speaker 6: I grew up in Orange County, so we had a
- 16:29Speaker 6: bit of a commute. So the producers were like, look,
- 16:32Speaker 6: we can't work the kids that long anyway on rehearsal days,
- 16:35Speaker 6: just come in.
- 16:36Speaker 5: It'll you know, at noon, it'll be less traffic. We'll
- 16:38Speaker 5: get here at one, we'll rehearse the kids season, then
- 16:40Speaker 5: you go home.
- 16:41Speaker 6: So I was fortunate in that by the second season
- 16:44Speaker 6: when we moved, or the third season when we moved
- 16:46Speaker 6: to a forty work week, I was in school all
- 16:49Speaker 6: day Mondays, and then half days Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and
- 16:52Speaker 6: then Thursdays and Fridays. I was school exclusively on set
- 16:54Speaker 6: for tape days, but I still had I got to
- 16:58Speaker 6: do a lot of the normal pieces.
- 17:02Speaker 5: So I'm always grateful for that because I do know
- 17:05Speaker 5: that again in that regard, I had a different experience
- 17:08Speaker 5: than a lot of kids in.
- 17:09Speaker 6: This business in that they had no access and kind
- 17:14Speaker 6: of quote unquote real life experiences.
- 17:18Speaker 5: You know.
- 17:18Speaker 6: I had a little bit of both, and I'm always
- 17:21Speaker 6: so grateful for that because I lived a really grounded
- 17:25Speaker 6: normal life in that regard.
- 17:27Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:27Speaker 5: It wasn't I never was was, you know. I just
- 17:31Speaker 5: I grew up around normal people and I liked it
- 17:33Speaker 5: that way.
- 17:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Were either of your parents in the arts?
- 17:38Speaker 5: No?
- 17:39Speaker 6: No, my mom, you know, she was stay at home
- 17:43Speaker 6: mom with me, but she had been gosh everything from
- 17:46Speaker 6: a you know, school bus driver to secretary you know,
- 17:50Speaker 6: down in Lomby Tarbor. My dad was a superintendent of
- 17:53Speaker 6: a gypsum plant, which is where we get drywall from.
- 17:58Speaker 6: He worked there for like forty seven years. But that's
- 18:01Speaker 6: quite older. Has U has adult children as well.
- 18:04Speaker 5: But yeah, he was a.
- 18:05Speaker 6: Blue collar worker worked down at Long Beach Harbor that
- 18:08Speaker 6: came from Oklahoma post Depression era, like was a migrant
- 18:13Speaker 6: farm worker.
- 18:14Speaker 4: At yeah thirteen, This this kid with a huge personality
- 18:18Speaker 4: from a real normal family, and I'm so grateful for that.
- 18:23Speaker 4: I learned a hell of a work ethic too, of course.
- 18:26Speaker 4: So so how soon after you know, you you wrap
- 18:33Speaker 4: filming this show that has been a huge part of
- 18:36Speaker 4: your existence. And did you turn to if you don't
- 18:42Speaker 4: mind me asking drugs and alcohol?
- 18:44Speaker 5: I mean I think it was.
- 18:46Speaker 6: You know, look, there was this convergence also of like
- 18:50Speaker 6: all of the peak things of early teenage trip coming together, right,
- 18:55Speaker 6: which was.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Hormones, which was, oh my god, I've been high school now. Yeah,
- 19:02Speaker 5: you know, sorry, I don't know if I.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Can tell you.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, but you know, you're like, fucking cool man.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Here we go.
- 19:08Speaker 6: I'm gonna I know everything now, and you're thirteen, And like,
- 19:11Speaker 6: now that I have a thirteen year old, I'm like,
- 19:12Speaker 6: oh my.
- 19:13Speaker 5: God, I knew nothing. I was such a fucking child.
- 19:20Speaker 5: You know.
- 19:21Speaker 6: That combined with the normal identity crisis of most thirteen
- 19:24Speaker 6: year olds, which is who do I.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Want to be?
- 19:26Speaker 6: Let me try on these different personas and people and
- 19:30Speaker 6: friend groups and all of that.
- 19:32Speaker 5: And then I had something that most kids don't have,
- 19:35Speaker 5: which is I lost my job.
- 19:36Speaker 6: I lost my everyday routine existence for eight years in
- 19:41Speaker 6: a rather sudden way. You know, Full House we didn't
- 19:44Speaker 6: have very long. I think it was like the last
- 19:47Speaker 6: three weeks we knew we were getting canceled.
- 19:49Speaker 5: Wow.
- 19:49Speaker 6: So we didn't even go into the season knowing it.
- 19:51Speaker 6: We thought it was going to get picked up, and
- 19:53Speaker 6: it didn't, and there was back and forth maybe W B.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Wood.
- 19:56Speaker 5: So it was kind of a sudden loss, but it
- 19:59Speaker 5: was also the same.
- 20:00Speaker 6: In time, like I can just start this new chapter.
- 20:05Speaker 6: But what I soon found was everyone expected.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Me to be Stephanie Tanner.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Yeah, and so I was like, well, let's just be
- 20:15Speaker 6: the least Stephanie Tanner like.
- 20:16Speaker 5: That we can to prove a point, you know. But
- 20:21Speaker 5: it was kind of the same ship as everybody else was.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Doing because you were in high school. You were in
- 20:26Speaker 2: high school. You were in high school. So it was like,
- 20:27Speaker 2: like you said, the convergence was like it was just
- 20:29Speaker 2: a perfect timing.
- 20:31Speaker 6: Of lost your job, the normal ship that starts anyway,
- 20:34Speaker 6: and then to add on like this extra layer just
- 20:36Speaker 6: a real interesting life shift for someone who doesn't have
- 20:41Speaker 6: the emotional capacity to really even think about.
- 20:43Speaker 5: It at that age.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Correct.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Correct, So you start, you started this rebellious phase of
- 20:49Speaker 4: like I'm not fucking Stephanie Tanner. I'm Jody I And
- 20:53Speaker 4: it was.
- 20:53Speaker 5: It was like I'll be just as bad as you
- 20:56Speaker 5: all do the same stupid shit you do.
- 20:59Speaker 6: But you know, it's different when when it's you, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 6: and I remember my mom always saying like people will
- 21:04Speaker 6: always be watching, people will always be watching, and that's
- 21:08Speaker 6: like kind of a shitty mentality to grow up with,
- 21:11Speaker 6: although I think now in the age of social media,
- 21:13Speaker 6: I can spill that way anyway. But you know, it was,
- 21:18Speaker 6: it always was different. It wasn't just like oh that
- 21:21Speaker 6: you know, freshman girl got drunk at a party.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Was dude, did you see Julie Sweeten, the Gold of
- 21:26Speaker 5: the Stephanie Tanner get drunk at that party?
- 21:28Speaker 4: Totally?
- 21:29Speaker 5: You know, it was a thing.
- 21:31Speaker 6: And so I think I found that thing that just
- 21:35Speaker 6: made me feel like I didn't give a shit.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Okay, alcohol.
- 21:42Speaker 6: I finally was like, oh wait, here's the key to
- 21:45Speaker 6: where I can feel like I don't give a ship.
- 21:48Speaker 6: I don't you know, nothing matters, I don't care about
- 21:50Speaker 6: your judgment of me, you know, all that kind of
- 21:52Speaker 6: stuff that. Thank god, at thirty nine, I now have
- 21:56Speaker 6: you know, I worked through a process and actually have.
- 21:58Speaker 5: But yeah, thirteen it was, you know, that was the thing.
- 22:02Speaker 7: So when we started drinking at thirteen, when I mean
- 22:05Speaker 7: full alcoholic at thirteen fifteen, when did it get to
- 22:09Speaker 7: the point where it.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Is I mad?
- 22:09Speaker 5: I can say I was by fifteen or sixteen.
- 22:12Speaker 6: I do remember at one point there was a moment
- 22:15Speaker 6: when I said to my mom was like, I think
- 22:17Speaker 6: I'm an alcoholico. And of course at fifteen or you know,
- 22:20Speaker 6: sixteen minutes, and I was drunk when I'm saying it, so,
- 22:23Speaker 6: you know, like I think my mom was probably like.
- 22:27Speaker 5: The fuck you are?
- 22:27Speaker 6: You're just being an idiot, you know. But I think
- 22:31Speaker 6: at an early age I always knew, and I know
- 22:34Speaker 6: so many people in spiety talk about this. You know,
- 22:36Speaker 6: alcohol did something.
- 22:38Speaker 5: Different for me than it did for other people. I
- 22:42Speaker 5: didn't react to it like my friends would get drunk
- 22:46Speaker 5: and then they're like, oh, I'm that's it.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's like me. That's like me.
- 22:48Speaker 7: That's like, yeah, when I'm done, I'm like, you know, Saturday,
- 22:53Speaker 7: I wake up, I'm like I never need a drink
- 22:55Speaker 7: for like.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Months, you know me, I would wake up and I'd
- 22:58Speaker 4: be like, where are the bloody Mary's? Where our eyes
- 23:02Speaker 4: are open? Why are we not drinking?
- 23:04Speaker 5: You know?
- 23:05Speaker 4: So, at what point did it did it it spiral
- 23:09Speaker 4: into something? Fifteen sixteen is when it spiraled into something more.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Getting worse than I got sober the first time.
- 23:16Speaker 6: When I was eighteen, I started I started college and
- 23:20Speaker 6: I did not get off through great.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Start that semester. Can I talked about it in my book.
- 23:25Speaker 6: I had a point nine GPA, which, oh my god,
- 23:28Speaker 6: really hard to get under a one point zero, but
- 23:32Speaker 6: I did it.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Yeah, that's just like I didn't do anything.
- 23:37Speaker 2: What school? What school?
- 23:39Speaker 6: Drink and party? Like I all of a sudden had
- 23:41Speaker 6: this freedom and I have my parents knew this about me,
- 23:43Speaker 6: you know, like you have to come home on weekends.
- 23:45Speaker 5: Okay, I'm home on weekends.
- 23:46Speaker 6: So I was like, well, shit, that really cuts into
- 23:49Speaker 6: my partying time. But now I've got Monday through Thursday.
- 23:54Speaker 4: And like that was so we really got to live
- 23:56Speaker 4: it up Monday through Thursday. Wow, And what school at
- 24:00Speaker 4: this time or whatever?
- 24:01Speaker 6: You know, And and then I knew at some point
- 24:05Speaker 6: like it just got to a place where I was like, oh,
- 24:08Speaker 6: I'm in trouble, like it really, you know, I was eighteen,
- 24:12Speaker 6: and I was like, yeah, I am not like most of.
- 24:16Speaker 5: These other people here drinking, Like this is getting serious,
- 24:19Speaker 5: and you know, it wasn't easy to get sober at eighteen.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Starting college.
- 24:25Speaker 6: I remember rushing a sorority and then I was like,
- 24:27Speaker 6: what am I doing? One I don't like hanging out
- 24:30Speaker 6: with like these kind of people on too, Like the
- 24:32Speaker 6: fuck am I going to do in a sorority? It's
- 24:34Speaker 6: all they do, you know, and it's not all they
- 24:36Speaker 6: but like that, that's part of it, right, It's part of.
- 24:40Speaker 5: That college experience. And I was like, I don't want
- 24:41Speaker 5: to do this. I was really uncomfortable.
- 24:43Speaker 6: So you know, it was a struggle and and there's
- 24:46Speaker 6: been lots of back and forth in my in my
- 24:50Speaker 6: sobriety journey, but I always say, like it started for
- 24:53Speaker 6: me then, and I'm so grateful because it planted those
- 24:57Speaker 6: seeds of a thought in my head that it could
- 25:02Speaker 6: be different. Every time I would go back out to
- 25:05Speaker 6: do more research or say bucket and go get voaded.
- 25:09Speaker 6: If those those things and those people were always in
- 25:12Speaker 6: my head of like okay, well you know that's you
- 25:16Speaker 6: do that, but like just remember this, you know totally.
- 25:20Speaker 2: When was your last when when was your last time out?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Were you that was it?
- 25:24Speaker 5: Oh gosh?
- 25:25Speaker 6: Well my last drink was oh god, it's been eleven
- 25:31Speaker 6: years now?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Oh wow?
- 25:34Speaker 5: No, no, has it been eleven years? March twenty ten
- 25:39Speaker 5: years March twenty eleven, So that was my last?
- 25:42Speaker 2: Wow?
- 25:44Speaker 6: So well, I had had my last drink long before then,
- 25:48Speaker 6: but like I had gone out on Soma's at one
- 25:51Speaker 6: point and was.
- 25:52Speaker 5: For like three weeks.
- 25:53Speaker 6: It was like I got in a car accident, things
- 25:55Speaker 6: went bad. I did that and then I was like,
- 25:57Speaker 6: oh wow, this is fucked up. So yeah, so that
- 26:02Speaker 6: was you know, I this is something changed for me
- 26:06Speaker 6: at that point where it was like, Okay, this is different,
- 26:12Speaker 6: and you know, and the journey of sobriety for me,
- 26:15Speaker 6: it's like not about anymore about arriving at this destination
- 26:19Speaker 6: of life.
- 26:20Speaker 5: Here I am. Now, it's like, oh, this is just
- 26:22Speaker 5: the constant work, right, the totally questioning ourselves.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Of course I am approaching. Of course, it's always one
- 26:30Speaker 4: day at of time. I'm approaching my three year birthday.
- 26:35Speaker 4: And you know, there's so many moments where I think,
- 26:39Speaker 4: what did I do right in the time that I
- 26:42Speaker 4: was drinking for my rock bottom to look so differently
- 26:45Speaker 4: than a lot of people that I sit in rooms with,
- 26:48Speaker 4: and you know, they do the work every day and
- 26:51Speaker 4: you know, some of these people have twenty four hours
- 26:54Speaker 4: under their belt. Some of these people have twenty four
- 26:56Speaker 4: years under their belt. And you know, to me, it's
- 26:59Speaker 4: so humbling because it's it's the same. We are all
- 27:04Speaker 4: one drink away from having everything go wrong.
- 27:08Speaker 6: So I look at you like I always you know,
- 27:13Speaker 6: people were like, hey, you want to drink. I'm like, no, no,
- 27:15Speaker 6: I don't think anybody here wants to get Arrested's nice.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I'm like, if you want your restaurant burned down.
- 27:22Speaker 6: Were I to start drinking now, it would be balls
- 27:27Speaker 6: like it would be, you know, because I was looking like,
- 27:30Speaker 6: what's the point of a glass of wine?
- 27:31Speaker 5: I want a bottle. I'm like, oh, most people like that.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Most people don't think like that.
- 27:36Speaker 5: I don't think no.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Normal people are like, had a stressful work day, they
- 27:40Speaker 4: have a glass of wine, they go to bed. Me
- 27:43Speaker 4: we are off to the races, and oh yeah, we'll.
- 27:46Speaker 6: Winding up somewhere is Miami. Who knows, you know, Like,
- 27:50Speaker 6: I mean, I've done one way tickets to places, and
- 27:53Speaker 6: when are you going?
- 27:53Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't know who knows? Who does that?
- 27:56Speaker 3: You know?
- 27:57Speaker 6: It was the constant chase, and I think throughout my thirties,
- 28:03Speaker 6: I also and the pandemic too.
- 28:05Speaker 5: I mean, I'll be really honest. It was awful and
- 28:07Speaker 5: it was really.
- 28:08Speaker 6: Hard, but in some ways it forced us all forced
- 28:11Speaker 6: me particularly to slow.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Down totally yep, and start re evaluating.
- 28:19Speaker 6: Me and the pieces of me and what pieces of
- 28:22Speaker 6: me are at the forefront, and what my priorities are
- 28:26Speaker 6: and all of these things that I realized.
- 28:27Speaker 5: You know, sometimes when I stay busy, I can just
- 28:29Speaker 5: distract myself.
- 28:30Speaker 4: From y Yeah, you get to you get to have
- 28:33Speaker 4: time by yourself, what's working, what's not working? You know,
- 28:36Speaker 4: we were stuck by ourselves, and so I had a
- 28:41Speaker 4: similar It was really there's so much going on, so
- 28:45Speaker 4: much going on, like a freaking roller coaster, Like you
- 28:49Speaker 4: just talking yourself into all of these thoughts. So I
- 28:52Speaker 4: can relate to you saying that during quarantine. So then
- 28:57Speaker 4: flash forward to you pick up when you said your
- 29:01Speaker 4: oldest is fourteen.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Correct, she just turned thirteen in April.
- 29:05Speaker 6: Yeah, and then you're cool teenager and my younger daughter,
- 29:07Speaker 6: Beatrix is she just turned eleven.
- 29:10Speaker 4: So that's got to be So first of all, you
- 29:13Speaker 4: just said you were how old did you say you were?
- 29:15Speaker 4: You dropped it thirty nine that I'm shaking in my
- 29:20Speaker 4: nikes because I like you. You look like a child.
- 29:25Speaker 4: You look good girl, Good for you. I mean you
- 29:28Speaker 4: look amazing, Like I literally.
- 29:29Speaker 6: Like showered, I clip no makeup on I apologize. It's
- 29:33Speaker 6: you know, just be in the face.
- 29:34Speaker 4: No, never apologize. So I mean, what are your like,
- 29:38Speaker 4: what have you done for your skin?
- 29:39Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't know.
- 29:40Speaker 6: I smoked for years. I did a lot of hard drugs,
- 29:43Speaker 6: Like don't wear sunscreen.
- 29:44Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I like, yeah, gramatics.
- 29:48Speaker 4: What what do your kids think about? Like do they
- 29:51Speaker 4: watch your show? Like, what do they think about this?
- 29:53Speaker 4: I'm so curious. No desire.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Kids are for the most part, relatively unimpressed with the
- 29:59Speaker 6: fact that I'm on a show.
- 30:01Speaker 5: I think really the thing that they like most about
- 30:03Speaker 5: comings is set was craft service. The shit about what
- 30:06Speaker 5: I was doing?
- 30:06Speaker 4: Right, They were just like, oh, sushi on a Friday, Well,
- 30:10Speaker 4: I'd be impressed by that. Craft services too, I usually
- 30:13Speaker 4: see bananas and Julida.
- 30:14Speaker 6: They enjoyed the person it sometimes for sure, but it's also,
- 30:18Speaker 6: you know, at the same time, it's hard.
- 30:19Speaker 5: For them when I when I have to travel.
- 30:21Speaker 6: My younger one, you know, when I have to go
- 30:22Speaker 6: away for three weeks to do a TV movie or whatever,
- 30:24Speaker 6: she hates it.
- 30:25Speaker 2: It's hard.
- 30:28Speaker 5: But they, you know, they're just like, oh my god,
- 30:30Speaker 5: this is It's so weird, but it's also always been
- 30:33Speaker 5: their existence.
- 30:35Speaker 6: Well not entirely because most of the time that I
- 30:40Speaker 6: have you know, I have my kids, So they were
- 30:42Speaker 6: pretty young when I started back to Fuller House and
- 30:44Speaker 6: doing all of that, so you know, they had some
- 30:46Speaker 6: experience of like just normal life, you know, the four
- 30:49Speaker 6: bedroom apartment we're all sharing. Yeah, and you know, now
- 30:52Speaker 6: they've gotten to see some of the fun perks of this,
- 30:56Speaker 6: so I think they like that for sure.
- 30:58Speaker 5: But at the you know, at the end of the day,
- 31:00Speaker 5: I'm mom. I have rules.
- 31:01Speaker 6: I yell at them like I'm so not cool. It
- 31:05Speaker 6: doesn't matter, like blah blah blah. You just told me
- 31:07Speaker 6: to pay my room.
- 31:07Speaker 5: I hate you, so right, Yeah, that's mostant.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Let me ask you this.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Let me ask you this.
- 31:11Speaker 7: So five years you come back, the show comes back.
- 31:15Speaker 7: Everybody's older, everybody's more grown up. Now, it's Bob said,
- 31:18Speaker 7: it's a friend of mine. It's just the whole thing's awesome.
- 31:21Speaker 7: I mean, I just think, you know, I have a
- 31:23Speaker 7: show Power on Stars and a lot of spin offs,
- 31:26Speaker 7: and you know, we've never come back.
- 31:28Speaker 2: We're just still doing. But I've just tried it before
- 31:31Speaker 2: you came on. I try to think about, like, wow.
- 31:33Speaker 7: Fast forward seven, eight, nine years, how exciting that has
- 31:36Speaker 7: to be to bring back the family and go back
- 31:39Speaker 7: and do it again. What is the most fun part
- 31:41Speaker 7: about you being back besides the fact that you're old
- 31:44Speaker 7: enough to appreciate it, probably now, what else is fun
- 31:47Speaker 7: about it?
- 31:48Speaker 5: Yeah? I appreciated it when I was young.
- 31:51Speaker 6: But I think having like, had things as a kid
- 31:54Speaker 6: and build up that, and then not having things and
- 31:58Speaker 6: being like, you know, like I said, one.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Veteran apartment with two kids, and you know, trying to
- 32:04Speaker 5: figure it out and do all that, like, and then
- 32:06Speaker 5: being able to kind of come back, and then being
- 32:08Speaker 5: in a pandemic.
- 32:09Speaker 6: You know, all of those things have given me perspective
- 32:12Speaker 6: that I wouldn't have had had it been difficult or
- 32:17Speaker 6: not difficult rather but coming back with all of these
- 32:21Speaker 6: people who we've stayed friends. I mean, we've all been
- 32:25Speaker 6: super close thirty five years.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Oh my wow, that's what I mean.
- 32:30Speaker 6: Other than my parents, I don't have a lot of
- 32:33Speaker 6: memories with anyone else in my life.
- 32:36Speaker 5: Do the Fourhouse cast, And we've always.
- 32:39Speaker 6: Stayed in touch, you know, sometimes we're together more than others,
- 32:42Speaker 6: but we've always done dinners on a regular basis. We've
- 32:46Speaker 6: always talked to each other. I mean, Bob and John
- 32:48Speaker 6: are like brothers. Literally, Dave involved knew each other since
- 32:52Speaker 6: they were nineteen. I mean, look, you know, it's just
- 32:55Speaker 6: there's so many there's so much love in that family.
- 32:59Speaker 5: And I mean back was like a reason you need
- 33:03Speaker 5: to come back and have fun and like play with
- 33:05Speaker 5: our friends and make a show and do this all
- 33:08Speaker 5: over again.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Now you get to see you have new kids that
- 33:12Speaker 4: are a part of the show, where you know they
- 33:15Speaker 4: are where you once were.
- 33:18Speaker 7: You know.
- 33:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I was really close with Elias that played mass
- 33:23Speaker 6: yeah show because he was about my age. He was
- 33:26Speaker 6: the one that was the middle kid about my age
- 33:30Speaker 6: that I was when he started and thirteen when you
- 33:32Speaker 6: know all of that, and he and I just connected
- 33:34Speaker 6: and I really understood that, and it is it's such
- 33:38Speaker 6: a different thing to be the adults in the room
- 33:41Speaker 6: now and be the one that, you know, along with
- 33:44Speaker 6: Cannas and Andreas sort of felt like we're responsible for
- 33:47Speaker 6: the tone of this set and how this works and
- 33:49Speaker 6: how these kids are treated, you know, and how we work.
- 33:53Speaker 6: And he just brought that family of full house right
- 33:58Speaker 6: to that and to those kids.
- 33:59Speaker 5: The kids were a part of the family. You know,
- 34:00Speaker 5: I missed them went off at college.
- 34:04Speaker 7: It was you know, oh my god, did you film
- 34:07Speaker 7: at a tape or whatever film tape in the same
- 34:11Speaker 7: studio that you did the original?
- 34:13Speaker 5: We did?
- 34:14Speaker 2: Oh we we well.
- 34:17Speaker 6: The first six seasons of Full House we were on
- 34:20Speaker 6: the Sony lot in Culver City.
- 34:22Speaker 5: Then the last two years we moved over here to
- 34:25Speaker 5: Warner Brothers.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Okay, and.
- 34:28Speaker 6: We were on.
- 34:29Speaker 5: Stage twenty four for those last two years.
- 34:33Speaker 6: Wow. And when we first the first season of our show,
- 34:38Speaker 6: we were on a different set. Actually we were on
- 34:40Speaker 6: a smaller one and we had was outside. So the
- 34:43Speaker 6: second season we got to come back and we came
- 34:46Speaker 6: back to Stage twenty four to the dressing rooms, like
- 34:51Speaker 6: the little two story apartment dressing rooms that they had
- 34:53Speaker 6: built on set.
- 34:54Speaker 5: We were the first ones in them.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Wow.
- 34:58Speaker 6: Wow, Now you know I had Dave Coulier's old room,
- 35:03Speaker 6: Canvas had Bob's old room.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Oh my god, so amazing.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Elias had my like the school room was now this.
- 35:10Speaker 6: But we knew, I mean always, I knew every inch
- 35:13Speaker 6: of that set.
- 35:14Speaker 5: I could walk it in my sleep. That's so Coolam
- 35:19Speaker 5: there again? And then and also getting to say goodbye
- 35:23Speaker 5: on that set again.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Wow, Wait, tell me about the tell me about the
- 35:27Speaker 2: season finale. What was that day like and what was
- 35:30Speaker 2: that final bow like?
- 35:32Speaker 6: You know it was. It was hard, but in a
- 35:36Speaker 6: way it was easier for me the second time, only
- 35:40Speaker 6: because the first time, as a thirteen year old girl,
- 35:44Speaker 6: I had this fear that I'd never see these people
- 35:48Speaker 6: again and that this was it and that that family
- 35:52Speaker 6: was done and I had no connection to them anymore.
- 35:55Speaker 6: This time I got to say goodbye to my family
- 35:59Speaker 6: of thirty five years in a way that was like,
- 36:02Speaker 6: we did it again. I'll see you guys soon, you know.
- 36:06Speaker 6: But it was also heartbreaking because again we had built
- 36:10Speaker 6: another family of you know, it's not just the cast,
- 36:13Speaker 6: it's your crew. And our crew was so amazing every department.
- 36:19Speaker 6: I loved them all. I was friends with them all,
- 36:21Speaker 6: Like I dearly enjoy being with these people so much
- 36:26Speaker 6: of my life and it's hard to.
- 36:28Speaker 5: Say goodbye to that. But it was just a different
- 36:32Speaker 5: perspective of like, I'm just in shock that we got
- 36:37Speaker 5: to do this again in five years, you know, amazing.
- 36:40Speaker 7: It's like it's like it would feel like hitting the
- 36:42Speaker 7: lottery twice, you know, because it's hard enough to have
- 36:45Speaker 7: a show on the air for a year.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Let alone, I hit epic show that stands at time twice,
- 36:50Speaker 2: it comes back twice. It's like hitting a lot of twice.
- 36:53Speaker 2: But so I could tell it you're the way you
- 36:55Speaker 2: talk about it, you have such an appreciation.
- 36:58Speaker 7: And then the second time around, it's like I really
- 37:00Speaker 7: got to like because as a child, you might have
- 37:02Speaker 7: never got to understand the level.
- 37:05Speaker 2: You know what I mean, except you got to do
- 37:07Speaker 2: it as a just in your existence.
- 37:08Speaker 5: It's the only one you've ever known. You're normal, You're like,
- 37:11Speaker 5: this is just this is what it was like.
- 37:13Speaker 6: I get up, I go to half day school, I
- 37:15Speaker 6: you know, get lunch in the car, I work on
- 37:17Speaker 6: my lines, and I show up.
- 37:18Speaker 5: To my job and home to homework in the car,
- 37:20Speaker 5: and you know, but this is normal.
- 37:22Speaker 7: But this time, this time, I could tell you really
- 37:25Speaker 7: soaked it all up the five years, and I think
- 37:27Speaker 7: that's really neat.
- 37:28Speaker 5: And I really did I really, I really really did
- 37:31Speaker 5: you know? I stood in that.
- 37:32Speaker 6: I remember walking onto I remember walking onto the set
- 37:36Speaker 6: the very first time and looking at the house again
- 37:40Speaker 6: and it was exactly like walking into your old house.
- 37:46Speaker 5: That you grew up in.
- 37:47Speaker 6: Wow, and you noticed the little changes. You're like, Oh,
- 37:50Speaker 6: the alcove's bigger. Oh that's different.
- 37:52Speaker 5: Oh they put a laundry room there when that was
- 37:55Speaker 5: just an exit. Oh they did that. You know, Oh
- 37:57Speaker 5: this this counter wasn't this big like the things that
- 38:00Speaker 5: you absolutely.
- 38:01Speaker 6: Know about your childhood home and walking into that again,
- 38:06Speaker 6: it was like, it's a really incredibly emotional moment and
- 38:11Speaker 6: the past went.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Over there together.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Oh wow, for the first time right after our very
- 38:17Speaker 6: first table read at Warner Brothers, and we all decided
- 38:20Speaker 6: to walk over there together as a group.
- 38:21Speaker 5: And it was like we all had tears running down
- 38:24Speaker 5: our face back in the home.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Okay, who is who is the Who's the softest of
- 38:28Speaker 2: the cast? On the last day, who who?
- 38:30Speaker 1: I mean?
- 38:30Speaker 2: I know you all were like who lost it? Who
- 38:33Speaker 2: lost it the most? Like who I did?
- 38:36Speaker 3: Wow?
- 38:36Speaker 5: It was It was really interesting because.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I'm not across you come across. You come across tough,
- 38:45Speaker 2: so like but you and the song.
- 38:47Speaker 5: For sure, I am not like I'm not an emotional person.
- 38:50Speaker 6: I'm not like I'm a tough not to crack in
- 38:52Speaker 6: that regard, Like it's not I'm like, oh that's too.
- 38:54Speaker 5: Bad, you know what I mean.
- 38:55Speaker 6: Like, but at the same time, incredibly empathetic. Yeah, and
- 39:01Speaker 6: like I feel stuff really deeply, so I think it
- 39:03Speaker 6: comes out.
- 39:03Speaker 5: Because I'm like, n this is I got to keep
- 39:06Speaker 5: it all.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Yeah, not too much.
- 39:08Speaker 5: But Cannice had been crying.
- 39:10Speaker 6: Like the two weeks before, Andrew was crying all that
- 39:13Speaker 6: week like, and there were moments for sure that we
- 39:16Speaker 6: got like emotional together during that whole week. But man,
- 39:21Speaker 6: when I went out to shoot that last scene, I
- 39:24Speaker 6: could barely say my lines and I just I just sobbed.
- 39:29Speaker 5: I really cried.
- 39:30Speaker 6: And I remember Elias. I went right to him because
- 39:33Speaker 6: he was just a wreck.
- 39:35Speaker 5: I remember that.
- 39:36Speaker 6: I remember that as a kid, and I just stood
- 39:39Speaker 6: there and hugged him and held him, and you know,
- 39:41Speaker 6: I just sobbed and cried, like I've all the pictures
- 39:45Speaker 6: from that.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Man, I'm just.
- 39:48Speaker 5: And it was it was.
- 39:52Speaker 6: It was sadness that I'm not going to get to
- 39:55Speaker 6: do this every day because I just again, I loved
- 39:58Speaker 6: the routine of it.
- 39:59Speaker 5: I was so happy there. But it was also just
- 40:03Speaker 5: this immense wave of gratitude.
- 40:09Speaker 6: That I got to do that and experience that, and
- 40:14Speaker 6: travel with this family to Japan.
- 40:16Speaker 5: And go do that, and travel with them here and
- 40:19Speaker 5: go you know, I just was. I was crying because
- 40:22Speaker 5: I thought, Wow, what a life.
- 40:25Speaker 6: You know, every time that I think I know how
- 40:29Speaker 6: it's going to be and this is going to be
- 40:30Speaker 6: what it is forever, it is, right, And that's a
- 40:35Speaker 6: great thing.
- 40:35Speaker 5: And it's also a painful thing, right, is that you know,
- 40:38Speaker 5: the only constant in life has changed. But standing there,
- 40:43Speaker 5: it just I felt so much.
- 40:45Speaker 6: And my kids were there, and my parents were there,
- 40:48Speaker 6: and you know, Candice's family, and Andrew's family, and these
- 40:51Speaker 6: parents and and and you know, aunts and uncles in
- 40:55Speaker 6: the original cast and people that had grown up with
- 40:58Speaker 6: us now with my kids now, with our kids now,
- 41:03Speaker 6: with our parents like it generational.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Right moment, Oh, I would have lost in my mind too.
- 41:10Speaker 6: And I think I would be hard pressed to say
- 41:14Speaker 6: that there are very many shows like that.
- 41:17Speaker 2: No, I'll agree with you, doesn't exist anymore. I mean
- 41:20Speaker 2: it's rare. It's rare.
- 41:21Speaker 6: Yeah. And and to have a set where it's you
- 41:24Speaker 6: literally have three generations of family that all know each other, Bob.
- 41:30Speaker 6: You know, they all know my parents and Andrew's and
- 41:32Speaker 6: Kannas's parents and our kids and you know, it was
- 41:36Speaker 6: like the family reunion every Friday night on take nights.
- 41:38Speaker 5: Everybody's husbands and kids and this and that.
- 41:40Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, that sounds so fun.
- 41:42Speaker 5: That was that was what I loved. That energy. It
- 41:46Speaker 5: was wonderful. It was wonderful to watch and a really
- 41:49Speaker 5: special thing to be a part of. And I knew it.
- 41:52Speaker 2: But you know, it's it's even on my movies, all
- 41:55Speaker 2: the things you just discussed.
- 41:56Speaker 7: I get like a little feeling of that every movie
- 41:58Speaker 7: I make, Like you know, you're you know, three months
- 42:01Speaker 7: of pre production, three months of shooting.
- 42:02Speaker 2: It's like an eight month thing. Yah. Right, But what
- 42:06Speaker 2: you're talking about is.
- 42:08Speaker 7: Decades of friendship, of growing up, of evolving and with
- 42:13Speaker 7: your movies.
- 42:13Speaker 4: Sometimes you know, it's like you don't shoot with the
- 42:15Speaker 4: same people every day, and this was a cast that
- 42:18Speaker 4: they were shooting together.
- 42:19Speaker 5: You create this little this business. You know, I love it.
- 42:22Speaker 5: We're a bunch of.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Carnies, by the way, Jody, I say that to everybody.
- 42:27Speaker 2: We are exactly that.
- 42:28Speaker 7: We come into town, we set up the tents, we
- 42:30Speaker 7: put on the show, and then it's over and it's like,
- 42:33Speaker 7: you know, sometimes you get to go back with the
- 42:34Speaker 7: same people, but not always where your situation. You're talking
- 42:38Speaker 7: about decades of friendship, of growing, of seeing each other
- 42:43Speaker 7: have families, and then getting to do it again for
- 42:45Speaker 7: five more years. That is a blessing at the highest level.
- 42:49Speaker 7: I really, you're a lucky, lucky person.
- 42:53Speaker 5: For many many reasons, and.
- 42:57Speaker 6: I don't forget it, you know, gratitude, like and in sobriety,
- 43:00Speaker 6: but just in general, like looking around and being grateful
- 43:03Speaker 6: for what I have and then turning that into.
- 43:07Speaker 5: The fight and the passion that I have for others.
- 43:09Speaker 6: You know, I really, I know I've been really lucky
- 43:13Speaker 6: in a lot of ways, and you know, I don't
- 43:17Speaker 6: take that for granted any any at any moment.
- 43:20Speaker 4: You can definitely tell you you are amazing to talk to.
- 43:24Speaker 4: I'm so appreciative that you took time to be on
- 43:26Speaker 4: our podcast.
- 43:28Speaker 5: Very absolutely. My pleasure is so nice to talk to
- 43:30Speaker 5: you guys.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Yeah, no, this was great. I really enjoyed it.
- 43:32Speaker 7: And I think that people were all fans of this show.
- 43:36Speaker 7: Whether you're old like me and you're fans of both versions,
- 43:38Speaker 7: or you're nostalgic like Lala, you're fans of both versions.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Rights you know, it's the nineties.
- 43:46Speaker 5: Kids.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm a nice I'm a nice.
- 43:51Speaker 5: My boyfriend's older than I am.
- 43:52Speaker 6: He's fifty one, and so we have that say there's
- 43:54Speaker 6: like just enough of a gap sometimes where he's like, yeah, no,
- 43:58Speaker 6: I wasn't into that.
- 43:59Speaker 5: I'm like, you know, my god, that was everything, and
- 44:04Speaker 5: he's like.
- 44:04Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I'm just kind of old for that's like.
- 44:08Speaker 4: Your age is showing. Yep, there's the gap. Didn't realize
- 44:11Speaker 4: it until something.
- 44:11Speaker 5: From like Nickelodeon, Are You Afraid the Door Called? Like
- 44:16Speaker 5: I was like twenty one already at drinking and you're.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Like, oh, that's amazing.
- 44:21Speaker 4: It was such a pleasure to talk to you. We
- 44:24Speaker 4: hope to talk to you soon. You You're awesome.
- 44:26Speaker 5: Thank you, my love, thank you absolutely, thank you you guys.
- 44:29Speaker 5: It was a pleasure.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Bye me.
