- 0:22Speaker 2: for all liberty. Enter that at nine three three kji
- 0:25Speaker 2: dot com for your chance to when twenty five hundred
- 0:27Speaker 2: dollars ian. I'll have a word for you at two o'clock,
- 0:29Speaker 2: Tave Softimon and Dick Fane at five o'clock. Okay, now,
- 0:32Speaker 2: cam Inman from San Jose. I guess you're not teaching class. Hello, sir,
- 0:36Speaker 2: you been.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'm not only not teaching class, I'm not at a
- 0:40Speaker 3: There's no mandatory mini camp for me to attend today
- 0:42Speaker 3: because the Niners called it quits last week. Oh so
- 0:46Speaker 3: there's no The Niners are done for the summer, and
- 0:48Speaker 3: I'm I got to go cover the Giants camp a
- 0:51Speaker 3: little bit. They're opening the clubhouse four hours before first.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I don't miss that. Yeah, I don't miss that.
- 0:56Speaker 4: That is.
- 0:58Speaker 2: That is what they compare the NFL to baseball. I
- 1:01Speaker 2: do not miss that exactly. I'm sorry about that.
- 1:05Speaker 4: So, in fact, one of the Giants made it. Hold on,
- 1:08Speaker 4: let's tak for first second.
- 1:09Speaker 3: One of the giants made relations guys like, he's like,
- 1:11Speaker 3: wait a minute, you guys don't talk to the head
- 1:12Speaker 3: coach before the game.
- 1:14Speaker 4: No chance of Shanahan would want any of us.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Near him before a game. We're forty eight hours away
- 1:21Speaker 3: from a game.
- 1:21Speaker 4: That's enough for him.
- 1:22Speaker 3: So that is baseball access is much different than football.
- 1:25Speaker 4: They have a game every day and we don't.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:29Speaker 2: So they he just bagged mini camp as a cookie
- 1:32Speaker 2: for the players or what is that about?
- 1:35Speaker 3: So the official reason, unofficial official reason was that they
- 1:40Speaker 3: had such great participation one hundred percent. I don't know,
- 1:43Speaker 3: you never really know it's one hundred percent, right. I
- 1:46Speaker 3: know some guys, some bets came in just for a
- 1:47Speaker 3: couple of days, and that's that's why. But then if
- 1:53Speaker 3: you look at Levice Stadium right now, it is a
- 1:56Speaker 3: fortress thanks to the World Cup coming in town this weekend.
- 1:59Speaker 4: So my feeling is.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Because the Niners practice there, there's just so much going
- 2:04Speaker 3: around that stadium where it's like, all right, they've got
- 2:06Speaker 3: their work in.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Two days of.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Mini camp is not absolutely vital for this team. It's
- 2:13Speaker 3: everybody that's on offense essentially is returning, right. It's a
- 2:16Speaker 3: very veteran offense. Mike Evans is a board. I don't
- 2:20Speaker 3: think Mike Evans needs two days of mini camp to
- 2:22Speaker 3: get ready for his thirteenth season. Defensively, you know, they
- 2:26Speaker 3: always have issues on defense, as the Seahawks know, and
- 2:31Speaker 3: they basically are without their starting front five or six
- 2:35Speaker 3: guys because they're all rehabbing or being held out, and
- 2:38Speaker 3: that includes Bosa, mikel Williams, Alfred Collins, and then behind
- 2:43Speaker 3: them is Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw's back and none
- 2:46Speaker 3: of those guys are practicing, so you know, cutting it early.
- 2:50Speaker 3: You know, obviously practice is good, but the Niners are
- 2:53Speaker 3: also petrified of getting injured after all their history of it.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And it's not from the electrical lines next door say so,
- 3:02Speaker 3: have a good summer, everybody. It was they extended They
- 3:05Speaker 3: extended OTAs like an extra day last week, and that
- 3:09Speaker 3: essentially meant that that was there would be no minute
- 3:12Speaker 3: mand A turned to the camp this week.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Okay, forty nine ers go soft in the spring. I
- 3:16Speaker 2: got that's the headline there?
- 3:17Speaker 1: Are you now?
- 3:18Speaker 4: They kind of did that? They kind of did that
- 3:20Speaker 4: in the divisional playoffs too.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Right, I wasn't going to say that you did. So
- 3:25Speaker 1: are you now?
- 3:25Speaker 2: Brandon Ayuk's Instagram follower are you like? Primary Instagram? Is
- 3:30Speaker 2: he daring the forty nine ers to just cut him?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Is that what they're trying to do? He's trying to
- 3:33Speaker 2: do here? What's going on there?
- 3:35Speaker 3: I think he's tried to be doing that for the
- 3:37Speaker 3: last year. This is nothing new. I I do not
- 3:39Speaker 3: make a living understanding Brandon Ayuk's hieroglyphics that he posts
- 3:43Speaker 3: on his Instagram captions. It is a very dangerous I
- 3:46Speaker 3: mean it's kind of gone like this for a few years.
- 3:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Back two years ago when he was trying to get
- 3:51Speaker 3: a new contract, there was a big stare down and
- 3:55Speaker 3: a lot of this similar stuff online and it wasn't
- 3:59Speaker 3: healthy and and the both sides eventually caved where the
- 4:03Speaker 3: Niners are ready to trade him to Pittsburgh and then
- 4:05Speaker 3: I says, okay, I'll take the deal, and Shanahanah had
- 4:08Speaker 3: to go run upstairs to Lynch's office and say, don't,
- 4:11Speaker 3: don't make the trade.
- 4:12Speaker 4: We're gonna sign him. They sign him.
- 4:13Speaker 3: A month and a half later, he gets a knee
- 4:15Speaker 3: injury that, you know, very serious knee injury, the ACL
- 4:19Speaker 3: and some other stuff in there. But he was looking
- 4:21Speaker 3: pretty good, just kind of jogging on the side at
- 4:24Speaker 3: the start of last training camp, and he seemed upbeat.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And then about a month later we find out that
- 4:30Speaker 3: all of his contract stuff is voided, so he has
- 4:34Speaker 3: no guaranteed money, and then he disappeared in October. No
- 4:36Speaker 3: teammates coaches could get in touch with them, and I Greg,
- 4:41Speaker 3: I haven't seen him or spoken to him in about
- 4:43Speaker 3: eight months, so I can't really tell you exactly what's
- 4:47Speaker 3: going on. I know there's a lot of concern from
- 4:50Speaker 3: teammates about him because they just didn't know where he's at,
- 4:53Speaker 3: whether he wants to get continue playing football, whether it's
- 4:56Speaker 3: obviously he doesn't want to be at the Niners and
- 4:58Speaker 3: they don't want him.
- 5:00Speaker 4: It's just a weird situation.
- 5:01Speaker 3: At the same time, the Niners don't feel compelled they
- 5:04Speaker 3: have to do anything like it.
- 5:05Speaker 4: It'd be almost like, look, we paid.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Him a lot of money and then we reward him
- 5:09Speaker 3: by giving him his release and let him go pick
- 5:11Speaker 3: where he wants to play. He just wasn't that great
- 5:14Speaker 3: of a soldier or teammate for them where they feel
- 5:16Speaker 3: compelled to do it, and they don't have any financial
- 5:19Speaker 3: ramifications to get rid of him until the start.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Of the season.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So this is this, This can continue or could end
- 5:25Speaker 3: any day they want to.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Is Is it true that's an arrest warn't out for
- 5:28Speaker 2: him for going one hundred miles an hour down?
- 5:30Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that was a story
- 5:33Speaker 3: that came out last week. It was I think it
- 5:36Speaker 3: was last December. He posted a video on his YouTube
- 5:40Speaker 3: channel driving one hundred, one hundred and four on Tasman,
- 5:43Speaker 3: which is the road side street.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I thought it was one one yes, yes, oh yeah, and.
- 5:49Speaker 3: There's let me if I can pilot between stop lights,
- 5:53Speaker 3: you know there's probably I mean, you can obviously can
- 5:55Speaker 3: get going.
- 5:56Speaker 4: He hasn't.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I found that exact same car actually last weekend it
- 5:59Speaker 3: wasn't his. But anyhow, he posts a video, he gets
- 6:02Speaker 3: he gets in, he gets in trouble, takes the video down,
- 6:07Speaker 3: and then I get so the rest warrant didn't just
- 6:10Speaker 3: happen last week We had our news Crime Side reporters
- 6:14Speaker 3: dig into it, and the arrest warrant went down in February.
- 6:17Speaker 3: It's been out for him since February, and like the
- 6:20Speaker 3: count the county or Santa Clare County or Santa's they police,
- 6:23Speaker 3: whichever one it was, they referred the case of the
- 6:26Speaker 3: DA and then the DA and put the rest wart out,
- 6:28Speaker 3: which to me is it's just kind of silly, Like
- 6:30Speaker 3: there's so much stuff, bigger issues in the world than
- 6:33Speaker 3: a guy that has other issues going one hundred miles
- 6:36Speaker 3: an hour down the street. And I don't know where he.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I think he's in Atlanta because like after he after
- 6:41Speaker 3: that news broke last week, he posted a video of
- 6:44Speaker 3: him racing a car legally around a racetrack in Atlanta.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I think it was, which I mean, it's just so
- 6:50Speaker 3: there's so much like juvenile stuff that's going on. It's like,
- 6:53Speaker 3: are you a professional football player now, like get your
- 6:56Speaker 3: stuff in line. The Niners basically let me just but
- 7:00Speaker 3: it this way. The Niners have kind of washed their
- 7:02Speaker 3: hands at this back in October September. We can keep
- 7:05Speaker 3: talking about it, but but third done and he's done
- 7:08Speaker 3: with them. It was just it was a very weird
- 7:11Speaker 3: two and a half the past two and a half
- 7:13Speaker 3: years with him, and you know by bringing in Mike Evans,
- 7:16Speaker 3: they're brought in Christian Kirk. They use their top pick
- 7:18Speaker 3: on Deshawn's dribbling. They had they revamped their wide receiver
- 7:22Speaker 3: course so you don't have the diva drama drama guys
- 7:25Speaker 3: like Debo, Brandon Ayuk and Juwan Jennings they're all gone
- 7:28Speaker 3: now and so now Evans and Christian Kirk. When they
- 7:31Speaker 3: got signed, the keywords were like people were like, oh,
- 7:34Speaker 3: there's now adults in the room, which was like, oh,
- 7:37Speaker 3: I mean they were not. They're like, these guys are men,
- 7:39Speaker 3: they're professionals, and they haven't and and Evans brings this
- 7:44Speaker 3: really noble presence to the receiving corps because of his
- 7:48Speaker 3: track record in Tampa is you know, you had eleven
- 7:50Speaker 3: straight seasons about over a thousand yards and then he
- 7:52Speaker 3: got hurt last year, which fits perfectly with the Niners
- 7:55Speaker 3: model because all the receivers are hurt. But he's been
- 7:57Speaker 3: healthy in camp and good rave reviews, and Kittle's like
- 8:02Speaker 3: excited to play with him, and Kittle's on the men
- 8:04Speaker 3: and looking ready to he'll be ready to go early
- 8:07Speaker 3: in the season, if not week one. So you know,
- 8:10Speaker 3: I think Ayuk is the furthest thing from their minds. Honestly,
- 8:13Speaker 3: it's great talk show fodder for us and and people
- 8:16Speaker 3: in Washington. Can people in Washington think that the Niners
- 8:19Speaker 3: canceled Many camp because they didn't want a Uke showing
- 8:21Speaker 3: up And.
- 8:21Speaker 1: That's not the case.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Hey, if I Yuke showed up, I think he'd have
- 8:25Speaker 4: an arrested.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Right, that's why you haven't seen him. This is this
- 8:31Speaker 2: is cam In been making me feel glad I am
- 8:33Speaker 2: with the Seahawks beat rather than the forty nine ers
- 8:35Speaker 2: beat the Senters. They Mercury News.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Wow, that is.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Well, maybe Brandon Ayuk wants to put a bit in
- 8:41Speaker 4: on the show they stuff.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yeah, he has a different reality than those people.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I'm sure he's got ten billion dollars lying around. Can
- 8:50Speaker 2: out bid Steve Balmer and a bunch of Indian steel tycoons.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go.
- 8:56Speaker 5: I was gonna ask about Mike Givens, but you kind
- 8:58Speaker 5: of answered that in itself. And talking is what he's
- 9:00Speaker 5: bringing to this team, especially with the young core receivers
- 9:03Speaker 5: they have around him.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But let's look at Nick Bosa.
- 9:05Speaker 5: He's targeting I think a training camp return and osa,
- 9:09Speaker 5: O dig.
- 9:10Speaker 4: He's oh diggy do well?
- 9:12Speaker 5: Oh, I said it right there, we go already emerging
- 9:14Speaker 5: as that new guy in the in the D line.
- 9:16Speaker 5: How concerned should Niners fans be about the pass rush
- 9:19Speaker 5: to start the season in September, especially with you know
- 9:23Speaker 5: this young D line.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Well, I thought it was the biggest issue going into
- 9:27Speaker 3: the off season and I think it's still the biggest
- 9:30Speaker 3: issue because they didn't bring in any top flight defensive
- 9:34Speaker 3: end and there's so much pressure and weight on the
- 9:37Speaker 3: comebacks of Nick Bosa Mikel Williams, who is their first
- 9:41Speaker 3: round pick last year. Both are coming off acls. Mike
- 9:44Speaker 3: Kel's was later in the year, so there's a great
- 9:46Speaker 3: chance he's not ready to start the season. But you know,
- 9:49Speaker 3: they signed a couple guys or brought in a few
- 9:52Speaker 3: rookies that have this six foot three two and thirty
- 9:55Speaker 3: to thirty five pound body frame that essentially is like
- 9:59Speaker 3: the fifth a fifth alignment, kind of like a stand
- 10:02Speaker 3: up guy that can also drop in coverage. And Raheem
- 10:05Speaker 3: Morris is their defensive coordinator. So the biggest defensive acquisition
- 10:08Speaker 3: they changed to was bringing Raheem in because they're the
- 10:12Speaker 3: Niners defensive front, and their attacking scale really has gotten
- 10:16Speaker 3: stale over the years. Everybody knows it's a wide nine
- 10:19Speaker 3: where the ends are on the outside, and if the
- 10:21Speaker 3: quarterbacks conduct inside or throw a screen pass over the
- 10:25Speaker 3: defensive end, it's how you get how you beat them,
- 10:27Speaker 3: especially when there's not a really speedy compliment on the
- 10:30Speaker 3: other side of Bosa. Bosa is still a tremendous pass wretcher.
- 10:33Speaker 3: He'll he'll get back from the acl fine, but who's
- 10:35Speaker 3: going to be on the other side to flush it out?
- 10:38Speaker 4: So the biggest addition they made was.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Oh so diggi zoo trading from uh, getting them from
- 10:43Speaker 3: the Cowboys who kind of had a surplus of the
- 10:45Speaker 3: starting defensive tackles. And so he's supposed to really be
- 10:50Speaker 3: a great presence on the inside, but he's never had
- 10:53Speaker 3: more than four and a half sacks in a season,
- 10:56Speaker 3: And so it's not like you're getting Aaron Donald to
- 10:58Speaker 3: like to all of a sudden, you know, say this
- 11:00Speaker 3: defensive front. I think what they're gonna have to do
- 11:02Speaker 3: is it's gonna have to be a shell game, and
- 11:05Speaker 3: it's going to be a lot more unpredictable and a
- 11:07Speaker 3: lot more variety in their front and just hope that
- 11:11Speaker 3: those guys that are coming back from serious injury are
- 11:13Speaker 3: going to be healthy.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Cam how's the defense going to be different with Raheem
- 11:16Speaker 2: Morris and how much is Matt eberflu Is going to
- 11:19Speaker 2: be involved?
- 11:21Speaker 3: I think I think they're gonna be a lot different
- 11:24Speaker 3: with Raheem because I think he's gonna have a lot
- 11:26Speaker 3: more fun just to's playing with an attacking style defense.
- 11:30Speaker 3: They he's their fifth defense coordinator in five years. He
- 11:33Speaker 3: coach the Falcons last two years, was with the rams
- 11:36Speaker 3: of the DC for the three years before that. Could
- 11:39Speaker 3: it be more of a three to four front with
- 11:41Speaker 3: maybe sometimes five guys on the defensive line, That's very possible.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Will to be more blitzing, that's possible. They still don't
- 11:49Speaker 3: have an accomplished secondary. The secondary is really suspect and
- 11:53Speaker 3: when you have a lack of pass rush. The Niners
- 11:56Speaker 3: only had twenty sacks last season right as a team
- 11:59Speaker 3: Miles Garrett had twenty three and now Miles garrettson in
- 12:02Speaker 3: your same division.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Good luck.
- 12:03Speaker 3: But I think just by bringing in Raheem there is
- 12:07Speaker 3: going to be this added energy and optimism. He's a
- 12:10Speaker 3: very positive, fun guy, and I think they need that
- 12:13Speaker 3: because they're also getting Dray Greenlaw back. There's a lot
- 12:16Speaker 3: of just hype about that of reuniting with Fred Warner,
- 12:19Speaker 3: but I try to caution everybody. It's like, yeah, Drey
- 12:22Speaker 3: is awesome when he's healthy. He just really had struggles
- 12:25Speaker 3: with health the last five seasons of his career, and
- 12:30Speaker 3: he had the Achilles, he's had quad, he's had growing issues.
- 12:33Speaker 3: There's been a lot with Dre. If he's healthy and
- 12:37Speaker 3: Fred Warner's next time, it's really fun to watch. And
- 12:41Speaker 3: Seahawks fans will remember watching Willison Bowman as the Niners
- 12:44Speaker 3: stud linebackers ten years ago, maybe fifteen or getting old.
- 12:48Speaker 4: But it's just.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Hard for me to envision that Dray green Law is
- 12:52Speaker 3: going to be fully healthy now. Fred Warner missed the
- 12:55Speaker 3: second half of last season with a fractured ankle, and
- 12:58Speaker 3: Fred's all the way back, and Fred's eater of that
- 13:00Speaker 3: whole defense. So to me, that's the biggest the most
- 13:03Speaker 3: important part of that defense being back together is Fred
- 13:06Speaker 3: Warner's healthy.
- 13:07Speaker 5: From what you've seen at OTAs no meaning camp, what's
- 13:11Speaker 5: is the legit Is there a legitimate buzz around Jacob Cowing,
- 13:14Speaker 5: cohing and do you think he has a chance to
- 13:16Speaker 5: make an impact on this offense this season.
- 13:20Speaker 3: So those unfamiliar Jacob Cowing is he and Jordan Watkins
- 13:25Speaker 3: are both like third fourth round draft pick maybe fourth
- 13:28Speaker 3: fifth rounders from previous years that have been injured that
- 13:30Speaker 3: barely contributed. Cowing last year with a hamstring injury. Watkins
- 13:35Speaker 3: was a rookie who had an ankle and then something else.
- 13:38Speaker 3: And so they haven't they haven't done anything but last
- 13:40Speaker 3: off season this time they were the talk of the town.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Hey, these guys look great.
- 13:44Speaker 3: So did Ricky Pearsall and Pearsall is looking They all
- 13:47Speaker 3: three of them are looking good in OTA's a couple
- 13:49Speaker 3: of weeks ago, but it's kind of like, all right,
- 13:51Speaker 3: we'll get to camp and see who's still healthy. So
- 13:54Speaker 3: they have this hope for these guys, these younger wide receivers,
- 13:58Speaker 3: But at the same time, there's a because you have
- 14:00Speaker 3: the older guys that they brought in with Evans, Christian Kirk,
- 14:04Speaker 3: DeMarcus Robinson, that you know they're fighting extend their careers
- 14:08Speaker 3: and you know they can easily be out these unproven guys.
- 14:11Speaker 3: So kind of know what he brings in He can
- 14:14Speaker 3: be the turn specialist because he did that a couple
- 14:16Speaker 3: of years ago. Sky Moore did it really well for
- 14:18Speaker 3: the Niners last season, but he left for the Packers riches,
- 14:22Speaker 3: and now the Niners got to find a new return specialist.
- 14:26Speaker 3: And watching in Ota last week when they were fielding punts,
- 14:30Speaker 3: I saw a couple of klank off Jacob Cowen's hand,
- 14:32Speaker 3: which is not very assuring for the Niners.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Cam Mimmn San Jose, Mercury News joining us here on
- 14:37Speaker 2: the Beacon Plumbing hot Onne on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 14:41Speaker 2: When they're healthy, the Niners have been the team they've
- 14:43Speaker 2: dropped off in the two years of the last five
- 14:45Speaker 2: when they've injuries have ravaged him. Do you think they've
- 14:49Speaker 2: reve you mentioned they're changing defense or maybe changing philosophy.
- 14:53Speaker 2: They've got their guys like Warner Greenlaw back. Do you
- 14:56Speaker 2: think they've done enough that they're won a one B
- 14:59Speaker 2: one C with the Rams at forty nine.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Ers they think they are, I'm I'm very hesitant. I mean,
- 15:08Speaker 3: first of all, there's so much focus right now on
- 15:10Speaker 3: the Rams, and especially because they got Miles Garrett.
- 15:14Speaker 4: They still have the reigning league MVP.
- 15:16Speaker 3: They have talent all around, and it's like, don't overlook
- 15:20Speaker 3: the fact that this the other division rival, just won
- 15:22Speaker 3: a Super Bowl in your own locker room. Like that
- 15:25Speaker 3: to me is like why are we talking about the
- 15:27Speaker 3: Rams so much? I mean, I don't expect the Seahawks
- 15:31Speaker 3: to just disappear. I posted like something on my Instagram
- 15:35Speaker 3: at forty nine ers dot cam last week of saying,
- 15:38Speaker 3: who's the Niners' biggest villain right now? Is it Matthew Stafford,
- 15:41Speaker 3: Miles Garrett, you know, Mike McDonald, or the power plant
- 15:46Speaker 3: next door? And uh, I think Miles Garrett barely edged
- 15:51Speaker 3: out the power plant And and like, you guys realize
- 15:56Speaker 3: Mike McDonald and the Seahawks have had the Niners number.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Like Mike's very good at the defensive scheme that the
- 16:01Speaker 3: Niners just simply can't unlock. So they need Mike Evans
- 16:05Speaker 3: in the passing game to open it back up, so
- 16:07Speaker 3: Christian McCaffrey can run and not have to be their
- 16:11Speaker 3: number one wide receiver, and so that the Niners need
- 16:15Speaker 3: to be able to get that offense going because they
- 16:16Speaker 3: could not run the ball last year, and they couldn't
- 16:19Speaker 3: stop the run, and they couldn't do much, and obviously
- 16:22Speaker 3: they were. That was Shanahan's coaching job at the end
- 16:25Speaker 3: of the year, to get them in contention for the
- 16:26Speaker 3: number one seed up to the last game and then
- 16:29Speaker 3: to win and to throwing the Eagles in Philly in
- 16:31Speaker 3: a wildcard game was that was one of the best
- 16:33Speaker 3: coaching jobs I've ever done. I've ever seen because there's
- 16:35Speaker 3: guys coming in off the street playing linebacker and breaking
- 16:39Speaker 3: up passes on fourth down. We're like, are you kidding me?
- 16:43Speaker 3: So his coaching prowess is amazing too. But I just
- 16:47Speaker 3: don't think that the Niners should overlook the Seahawks or
- 16:50Speaker 3: the Rams.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Cam.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I know you're busy, man, because you got to go
- 16:53Speaker 2: cover batting practice at noon for a seven pm game.
- 16:56Speaker 2: So we'll let you go enjoy the Giants, enjoy your summer.
- 17:00Speaker 4: I'll be on the.
- 17:00Speaker 3: World Cup too, So yeah, all of America is gonna
- 17:04Speaker 3: get consumed by World Cup fever, right, So let's I
- 17:07Speaker 3: do like the World Cup. I love soccer, so I'm
- 17:10Speaker 3: sure the I didn't. Isn't Seattle doing like a floating
- 17:13Speaker 3: barge for a big party they see every every like
- 17:16Speaker 3: a lot of these host cities in America are going
- 17:19Speaker 3: all out. The Bay Area Crickets promoted it well.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Well outside the stadium.
- 17:23Speaker 2: They'd have to do it in a strip mall parking
- 17:25Speaker 2: lot if you did it in Santa Clara, there's nothing.
- 17:27Speaker 3: But you know, there's enough stuff in the Bay Area
- 17:29Speaker 3: for people to I mean, they put on a pretty
- 17:31Speaker 3: good Super Bowl, but they just kind of they're trying
- 17:33Speaker 3: to pick it up this week and it's like they
- 17:35Speaker 3: have the worst draw of any stadium that's hosting World
- 17:38Speaker 3: Cup games. Like there's no like superstar, big name team.
- 17:41Speaker 3: So uh, they're going to rely on soccer purists and
- 17:44Speaker 3: like Bay Area front runner crowds to show.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Up for it as long as the sun's not shining
- 17:49Speaker 2: in the east stands, and then no one will be
- 17:51Speaker 2: in the stands and they'll be empty seats.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Nine pm kickoffs that.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Night, it's like four am. Back in the Europe. You
- 17:58Speaker 2: got any European teams? Jeez n' PM's right, that's right,
- 18:03Speaker 2: Thanks cam O, check up soon.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Appreciate you man, All right, Greg, Thanks appreciate you too,
- 18:08Speaker 1: by bye.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Cam Inman Santase Mercury News. We used to cover the
- 18:12Speaker 2: Raiders together, covered some forty nine ers stuff together, hung at.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Him at the Super Bowl.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I taught I guest taught in his class at San
- 18:19Speaker 2: Jose State University. He teaches an undergrad journalism class, and
- 18:24Speaker 2: I dropped in on that when I was at the
- 18:25Speaker 2: Super Bowl. A long time friend of mine. He says,
- 18:27Speaker 2: that should be music to Seahawks fans. Ears hum crazy, say,
- 18:30Speaker 2: I don't know why everyone keeps talking about the Rams.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Man forty nine ers, biggest rival just settled in your
- 18:35Speaker 2: locker room. He's one hundred percent right, though you worry
- 18:37Speaker 2: about the wrong thing. Aren't the Seahawks the team that beat.
- 18:40Speaker 1: All Fortnight four five one, Fortnite four five one. Where
- 18:45Speaker 1: to the forty nine Ers on the Ta coma Dodge
- 18:47Speaker 1: Tech sign?
- 18:48Speaker 2: I asked, where do the forty nine ers rank in
- 18:50Speaker 2: your concern level as a Seahawks threat? Chris is putting
- 18:54Speaker 2: up like eight fingers way down the list.
- 18:56Speaker 5: Or yeah, they're Seahawks fans should be like the who Okay,
- 19:02Speaker 5: it goes the Rams, the Rams, and then then there's
- 19:06Speaker 5: a drop drop, drop drop drop the Niners and then
- 19:09Speaker 5: a huge cliff like a canyon, and then you can
- 19:13Speaker 5: point to the actually we'll go.
- 19:15Speaker 2: A light year and then you go to the Cardinals.
- 19:17Speaker 2: They might be more worried about the the Browns than
- 19:20Speaker 2: the Cardinals. They might be more worried about they play
- 19:23Speaker 2: the Browns. You dub the Cardinals.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Okay, Okay, Okay, maybe next year then, because they do
- 19:28Speaker 5: play the NFC North. I believe AFC North next year.
- 19:30Speaker 1: If I'm not mistaken, maybe I'm wrong about that. I
- 19:32Speaker 1: don't who cares.
- 19:33Speaker 2: I don't think we'd play it. I don't think. I
- 19:35Speaker 2: know we're not going to Cleveland as a road trip
- 19:37Speaker 2: for the Seahawks. But fort nine four five one that
- 19:39Speaker 2: the Kama Dodge text line, where is your level concerned
- 19:42Speaker 2: with the forty when they're healthy? They have been a problem.
- 19:45Speaker 2: They haven't been healthy, so they haven't been a problem.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And as Cameron been pointed out just now, Mike McDonald
- 19:50Speaker 2: seems to have throttled Kyle Shanahan's offense, absolutely throttled in
- 19:55Speaker 2: really all three games, but especially the final two games
- 19:57Speaker 2: of last season. Where are the forty nine ers rank
- 19:59Speaker 2: on you're concern of Seahawk fans? We'll read back your
- 20:03Speaker 2: text next on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back
- 20:06Speaker 2: to the Greg Belt Show with Christopher Kidd Live on
- 20:08Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJRFM. If you missed our talk
- 20:10Speaker 2: with forty nine ers beat writer Camenman the same as
- 20:12Speaker 2: a Murcurr News. You can go to nine through three
- 20:14Speaker 2: KJR dot com download it. We'll go to the iHeartRadio
- 20:17Speaker 2: at nine through three KJR. Marcus Tuyosa Soapa. You remember
- 20:22Speaker 2: him from Husky's Quarterback. I covered him as a Raiders quarterback.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I covered him as the interim coach after Steve Sarkeesian
- 20:28Speaker 2: left of the University of Washington. Marcus Tuyasa Soapo's son,
- 20:33Speaker 2: Bryce is a freshman six four to two hundred and
- 20:36Speaker 2: thirty pounds freshman in high school in Marvel High School
- 20:40Speaker 2: at Manville High School in Texas. He's a high school
- 20:43Speaker 2: freshman who got eighth college football scholarship offer this weekend
- 20:49Speaker 2: from the University of Washington. Marcus Tuyosa SOAPU said, this
- 20:53Speaker 2: one hits home. Congrats son. Put that on Twitter X
- 20:57Speaker 2: you know what time it is. The music means it's
- 20:58Speaker 2: time to be a part of the show. And the
- 21:00Speaker 2: Camadage text line four nine to four or five.
- 21:02Speaker 5: One, Greg was sharing information about Ryan Bliss and Brad
- 21:07Speaker 5: Adam wearing the same shoe size. I came up with
- 21:09Speaker 5: a quirky idea of I don't know, maybe making a
- 21:13Speaker 5: film of it. Go to the two five to three
- 21:15Speaker 5: the scene Bliss knocks on Brad's hotel room door. Brad
- 21:19Speaker 5: greets him and asks what he can do for him.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Bliss says nothing, just slowly looks down to Brad's feet,
- 21:24Speaker 5: camera pans to brad sneakers. Scene cuts to Brad doing
- 21:28Speaker 5: postgame interview on field, and camera slee pans down to
- 21:31Speaker 5: Brad's feet where he's wearing bunny slippers with dress socks on.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Naylor the shoe guy asked what size are those? Bud
- 21:36Speaker 5: Final scene barefoot, Brad walks up to the steps with
- 21:39Speaker 5: the bus turns the corner and Naylor's kickback in the
- 21:41Speaker 5: first seat with feet propped up bunny slippers on.
- 21:46Speaker 1: You guys are so creative. Thank you.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I have to call Brad, get him on and talk
- 21:50Speaker 2: about Yeah, like I said, he's got five more days
- 21:53Speaker 2: on the road trip Baltimore and Washington to go shopping.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It's saying you can get it done.
- 21:58Speaker 5: From the three six to so, I was impressed by
- 22:01Speaker 5: Kyle Shanahan giving the Seahawks props during the Super Bowl interviews.
- 22:04Speaker 1: He really showed a lot of respect. It was pretty cool.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Five eight five. Where the heck is that? I don't
- 22:13Speaker 1: even know? Okay, Well again, can I guess Alabama? Alabama? Well?
- 22:17Speaker 5: I don't know what to say other than good guess, Greg, Hey, Greg,
- 22:20Speaker 5: As you know, about a fifth of all active duty
- 22:23Speaker 5: military transition and moved to new duty stations every summer.
- 22:27Speaker 5: This is a fifth of those. How do professional athletes
- 22:29Speaker 5: do it? Do they get compensation for moving? Support finding
- 22:32Speaker 5: a home, spouse, job replacement, childcare, school placement.
- 22:36Speaker 1: For their kids? The military doing does a great job
- 22:39Speaker 1: of supporting families when they move. Good question.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I know in the NFL, and I'm pretty sure still
- 22:43Speaker 2: in Major League Baseball, every team has a community outreach
- 22:48Speaker 2: person that is in charge of family placement. The mo
- 22:52Speaker 2: Kelly is the Seahawks guy who's all things off field
- 22:55Speaker 2: in player wellness, and mo Kelly's a confident for guys,
- 23:00Speaker 2: and moe Kelly will steer guys towards certain neighborhoods, certain condominiums,
- 23:04Speaker 2: complexes that Seahawk players have stayed in in the past,
- 23:08Speaker 2: advice on school systems, like there are resources there, Yes,
- 23:12Speaker 2: they have moving. Yes, the teams usually cover the moving expenses,
- 23:16Speaker 2: not that NFL player can't afford to do that, but
- 23:19Speaker 2: you load it up and send it off and a
- 23:21Speaker 2: moving company delivers.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It to where you're going.
- 23:24Speaker 2: They find their own homes, and that's sometimes the lengthy process,
- 23:27Speaker 2: especially when you have kids and you're looking at school
- 23:29Speaker 2: systems and all that. And oftentimes, interestingly, when players get
- 23:33Speaker 2: traded during a season, spouses and their kids, if they're
- 23:36Speaker 2: of school age, stay back in the schools there rather
- 23:39Speaker 2: than pull them out of school in the middle of
- 23:40Speaker 2: the school year. So often players Leonard Williams players like
- 23:43Speaker 2: that that get signed in the middle or traded to
- 23:45Speaker 2: a team in the middle of the season are by
- 23:48Speaker 2: themselves without their family for most of them, if not all,
- 23:51Speaker 2: the rest of that season. Players talk about how it's
- 23:54Speaker 2: a little different when the wife and kids aren't around,
- 23:56Speaker 2: especially around the holidays, because they're back home, still going
- 23:58Speaker 2: to school in their former cities.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Good question, that's a real life good question.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Last one for me four to two five, Greg, what's
- 24:05Speaker 5: your prediction for tonight's finals game? My prediction Vegas goes
- 24:08Speaker 5: up five in the first, Carolina counts with five in
- 24:10Speaker 5: the second, and the drama builds of no Gold in
- 24:12Speaker 5: the third. Finally in the fifth, ot Carolina scores and
- 24:15Speaker 5: wins six five. Because these games have to keep one
- 24:17Speaker 5: up being the previous one, right.
- 24:18Speaker 1: But say you that's true.
- 24:20Speaker 2: The only way that one up Saturday's Game three would
- 24:23Speaker 2: be a five nothing rally from a five to nothing
- 24:25Speaker 2: deficit in three or four overtimes.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I'll be watching.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Channel ninety nine, six nineteen on Comcast Cable, CBC sports Net,
- 24:33Speaker 2: and then listening tonight John Foresland Eddie Olchik five o'clock
- 24:37Speaker 2: Game four of the Stanley Cup Finals with Vegas leading
- 24:40Speaker 2: two games to one in Las Vegas, Carolina in Vegas.
- 24:43Speaker 2: But yes, it's been an unbelievable series, and point taken,
- 24:46Speaker 2: it's got to be a five nothing come back. The
- 24:48Speaker 2: top Saturdays four to two five says, I would rather
- 24:52Speaker 2: have Congress fix our issues with lowering gas prices and
- 24:55Speaker 2: make sure all of that is in order. If they
- 24:59Speaker 2: can do the end issue, if they do the dude
- 25:02Speaker 2: that do fix the NCAA issue, I'm okay with it.
- 25:05Speaker 2: That's our US Coast Guard and O Day listener Buddy
- 25:08Speaker 2: from the four two five. Michael from the two five
- 25:11Speaker 2: three says, the mafia just got really happy. This ruling
- 25:14Speaker 2: just opened the door for them on top of the
- 25:17Speaker 2: rest of the student athletes, where there still are those
- 25:19Speaker 2: who are still there. This kid should be done, goodbye,
- 25:23Speaker 2: good luck, but nope. Shall be fun to watch as
- 25:27Speaker 2: it unfolds, depends what your definition of fun is.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I think.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Two six is Texas Tech and this judge had their priorities.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Bast Awkwards absolutely ridiculous that Soresby will be allowed to play.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I hope more teams boycott and refuse to play Texas Tech.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I think something I infernescn have probably a little more
- 25:46Speaker 2: to say about this. He is down in renting. I
- 25:49Speaker 2: think we're going to talk to him via the remote.
- 25:52Speaker 2: If not, it's Anderson Hurst. Their show's coming up will
- 25:55Speaker 2: preview what they have going on next on ninety three
- 25:57Speaker 2: point three KJRFM and Fornes is our there for Seahawks
- 26:01Speaker 2: mini camp practice this afternoon. His shows from twelve until
- 26:04Speaker 2: three with Anderson Hurst hair on KJR.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Hello, sir, Hello are you yeah? Well, thank you?
- 26:10Speaker 2: I was listening to your comments about Brennan Soresby. Yes,
- 26:14Speaker 2: And since that time, it seems like this is the
- 26:17Speaker 2: one issue that is actually uniting all of college sports
- 26:22Speaker 2: against one program. I don't know if we have another
- 26:27Speaker 2: college sports issue where everyone is united against one enemy
- 26:32Speaker 2: it's Texas Tech University.
- 26:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm gonna get into it a little bit again today.
- 26:35Speaker 6: I spent some time with it yesterday, as you said,
- 26:37Speaker 6: and I'm gonna get into it against it. I do
- 26:39Speaker 6: find it multiple things can be true. Would you agree? Yes,
- 26:42Speaker 6: multiple things can be true. Yes, you can't bet on
- 26:48Speaker 6: your own You can't bet on your own sport, correct,
- 26:51Speaker 6: you just can't. I mean, just let's just blanket that
- 26:53Speaker 6: out there.
- 26:54Speaker 1: That's for those who have ethics and morals and kind.
- 26:57Speaker 6: But against it is against the rules on every level.
- 27:01Speaker 6: Like it doesn't matter what it just it's you cannot
- 27:04Speaker 6: do that, and there should be a harsher punishment than
- 27:08Speaker 6: two games. I mean most of the time your band.
- 27:11Speaker 6: At the same time, I find it rather interesting that
- 27:15Speaker 6: the Big Ten and others are taking some sort of
- 27:19Speaker 6: moral high ground. We're not gonna play you where you're
- 27:23Speaker 6: wrong and all this. It's like, okay, are super you
- 27:29Speaker 6: do that? You're the same conference that destroyed the Pac twelve.
- 27:33Speaker 6: You care about what's good for college sports? Really? Like,
- 27:37Speaker 6: how in what way now we all agree this is good?
- 27:41Speaker 6: But I so they're unrelated, but they're in my mind
- 27:45Speaker 6: they're related because I just I And then the Big
- 27:47Speaker 6: Twelve Utah's ad all this is reprehensible in this and that,
- 27:52Speaker 6: and said, dude, I covered you guys, I know some
- 27:54Speaker 6: of the punks you had playing for you over the years.
- 27:56Speaker 6: Like stop it, like there's this whole thing we're not
- 27:59Speaker 6: gonna play. This is a really simple solution, really, I
- 28:03Speaker 6: mean to me, Greg, it's a simple solution. The Big
- 28:05Speaker 6: Twelve steps in and says he's ineligible.
- 28:07Speaker 1: It's as simple as that.
- 28:08Speaker 2: They could do that, but you know why they won't
- 28:10Speaker 2: because then those university presidents will be afraid to get
- 28:13Speaker 2: ensued themselves, which is the whole reason why they're asking
- 28:15Speaker 2: for Congress to come in and bail on them.
- 28:17Speaker 6: Right, But that won't happen before then, and the appeal
- 28:19Speaker 6: won't happen until February. The only solution, the only solution,
- 28:22Speaker 6: is just to bite the bullet your mark, who's you know,
- 28:24Speaker 6: he glass floors and everything else. Just say you're ineligible.
- 28:27Speaker 6: It's as simple as that. It just isn't that hard,
- 28:29Speaker 6: you know. And let's just go back to the Big
- 28:31Speaker 6: ten for a second. The Big ten enforced a rule.
- 28:33Speaker 6: They helped Washington enforce rule, and they forced him on
- 28:36Speaker 6: Williams to stay here.
- 28:36Speaker 1: That's why he's still here.
- 28:37Speaker 6: That's he in no way, shape or form wants to
- 28:40Speaker 6: be here, right, But he's here because the conference, not
- 28:44Speaker 6: the nc DOUAA, not a court. The conference stepped in
- 28:48Speaker 6: and stopped him. You worked at the UDV forever. Remember
- 28:51Speaker 6: back in the day there were the conferences had rules.
- 28:54Speaker 6: The PAC twelve, I think those conferences they had rules.
- 28:57Speaker 6: They had a rule that said, hey, you know what,
- 28:59Speaker 6: you can can't transfer inside the conference. If you do,
- 29:01Speaker 6: it's two years of sitting out right. And everyone shared
- 29:06Speaker 6: it and no one, No one sued anybody. Nobody said, hey,
- 29:10Speaker 6: you know, like you know so and so is going
- 29:12Speaker 6: to go from from Oregon to USC and we're not
- 29:15Speaker 6: gonna we're gonna sue you for not letting us play. No,
- 29:17Speaker 6: they just enforced it. Hell do we not have the
- 29:19Speaker 6: biggest precedent of the conference setting a standard that anybody
- 29:22Speaker 6: Don James nineteen ninety three or two whenever it was yes, yeah,
- 29:27Speaker 6: that wasn't because was that not in it? That was
- 29:29Speaker 6: at Cuba. Now that was a twelve back ten. That
- 29:31Speaker 6: was a pac ten sanction. It's just simple guys. At
- 29:35Speaker 6: the same time, Texas Tech has been in the crosshairs
- 29:39Speaker 6: of everybody for a while, and because Campbell's out there
- 29:42Speaker 6: spending money like nobody's business and all the good old
- 29:45Speaker 6: boys down south Man is pissing them off. So they
- 29:48Speaker 6: they were waiting for Texas Tech to slip up, and
- 29:50Speaker 6: boy did they didn't slip up. They went down the
- 29:53Speaker 6: slip and slide buddy, Yeah they did.
- 29:55Speaker 2: They're the modern day SMU. Everyone was mad about SMU.
- 30:00Speaker 2: They wanted to get Eric Dickerson and Craig James illegally
- 30:02Speaker 2: recruited and trans ams and they finally got SMU.
- 30:06Speaker 1: But now you can't.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I mean, no one's going to put a death penalty
- 30:09Speaker 2: on Texas Tech because they'll get sued for that too.
- 30:11Speaker 2: The college presidents have to step up and if that's
- 30:14Speaker 2: the Big twelve, so be it. But Texas Tech could
- 30:16Speaker 2: suspend him for a season too, but I'm going to
- 30:18Speaker 2: because the large portion, a large portion of their revenue
- 30:22Speaker 2: sharing plus the donors billions are going to his six
- 30:24Speaker 2: million dollar nil deal.
- 30:26Speaker 1: They're trying to get a return on their investment.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Well, and it's too late to get another quarterback, right
- 30:30Speaker 6: the other thing, let's just cut to the chase. It's
- 30:33Speaker 6: too late to get.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Another They already signed him too, a five six million
- 30:35Speaker 1: dollar nil deal.
- 30:36Speaker 6: And you're right, everyone, every the portal isn't it opened.
- 30:41Speaker 6: It closed and anybody who is worth their salt already
- 30:43Speaker 6: got signed. It's as simple as that. You can't transfer
- 30:46Speaker 6: right now. You can't. There's no portal open right now
- 30:48Speaker 6: for college football. They stopped that after spring games, remember,
- 30:50Speaker 6: because everyone was poaching guys after spring games, right, and
- 30:54Speaker 6: so they so then they're kind of they're they're in
- 30:56Speaker 6: a tough situation. I just can't believe Texas Tech didn't
- 30:59Speaker 6: do any kind of doue diligence like.
- 31:03Speaker 1: And they just thought it will just buy lawyers and
- 31:05Speaker 1: buy a judge that will if it.
- 31:07Speaker 6: Goes over it. But don't you think, don't you think, Greg?
- 31:09Speaker 6: I mean, I mean we've all applied for jobs. They
- 31:12Speaker 6: do background checks and they're pretty I mean, depending on
- 31:14Speaker 6: the job, they can be fairly I mean, I've been
- 31:16Speaker 6: stressed out over those things before, not not here in
- 31:19Speaker 6: kJ our iHeart man, We're just we will we open
- 31:21Speaker 6: the door.
- 31:21Speaker 2: But I can't think that for a five or six
- 31:25Speaker 2: million dollar nil contract that they did not know that
- 31:27Speaker 2: he was doing this at Cincinnati or Indiana.
- 31:29Speaker 6: I if they did, if they did or didn't, I
- 31:33Speaker 6: don't even know. It just it seems odd. Right. But
- 31:36Speaker 6: here's the thing, all those all these quarterbacks available, and
- 31:39Speaker 6: you pick this guy right right because because if you
- 31:42Speaker 6: did know, there's red flags and you just got even
- 31:44Speaker 6: if you think, hey, we can buy our way out
- 31:46Speaker 6: of it, not necessarily. I think the whole thing I
- 31:50Speaker 6: I'm highly entertained by it. I am highly highly entertained
- 31:53Speaker 6: by it because there are just so many there's there's
- 31:56Speaker 6: some levels of hypocrisy here with other conferences in schools. Uh.
- 32:01Speaker 6: I got to think even in you know, like how
- 32:03Speaker 6: about how about Iowa State. You know they've they've had
- 32:06Speaker 6: players been suspended for some minor gambling violations. Iowa had
- 32:09Speaker 6: ad tackle a couple of years ago that bet on
- 32:11Speaker 6: the winned dollars.
- 32:13Speaker 2: One bet self reported, Iowa reported it. Nobody appealed to
- 32:16Speaker 2: the NCAA, nobody got injunctions.
- 32:18Speaker 1: It was his his career was over.
- 32:20Speaker 2: It's just it's it's from it's that's accountability, which is
- 32:23Speaker 2: kind of what we're supposed to be teaching college.
- 32:25Speaker 6: College sports are broken, and it's just it's just what
- 32:27Speaker 6: it is.
- 32:28Speaker 2: College president's got to fix it. Man, they aren't doing it.
- 32:31Speaker 2: They're feckless. They're taking the revenue. They're afraid to get sued.
