- 4:41Speaker 1: to see where the host is for tonight. I see
- 4:44Speaker 1: her guest is backstage. But nevertheless, we're gonna keep it pushing.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Y'all know, I'm always prepared to go forth if need be.
- 4:52Speaker 1: That's what I do. So I'm not gonna keep the
- 4:56Speaker 1: guests backstage because I see her back there and I'm
- 5:00Speaker 1: want to go ahead and bring her up. And y'all
- 5:02Speaker 1: we're gonna make this happen. This is what we do.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Of course. I am the Visionary, Angela Thomas Smith, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: I see we have another author at the Farren, micklick.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Moore Mac Lamore.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Okay, well, welcome, welcome, Welcome to the Crew podcast. Do
- 5:26Speaker 1: not delayed, but not denied the podcast. The original host
- 5:33Speaker 1: is Latanya Little John, but I am the Visionary. If
- 5:38Speaker 1: you would please introduce yourself.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Yes, first of all, thank you so much for having me.
- 5:45Speaker 3: It's a pleasure to be here. So my name is
- 5:49Speaker 3: Farren Baron maclamore and I am the author of Shining
- 5:53Speaker 3: Through My Journey with Incontinent to Your Pigment Tea. I
- 5:57Speaker 3: am a first time author, first time self published author.
- 6:01Speaker 3: So it's been such an amazing journey. And my book
- 6:05Speaker 3: has been nominated for the Distinguished Author's Guild Literary Award,
- 6:11Speaker 3: which has been so rewarding because it is my first book.
- 6:15Speaker 3: So a little bit about me. I'm passionate about helping others,
- 6:20Speaker 3: encouraging others and inspiring people. So this book allowed me
- 6:24Speaker 3: to do that. This book was inspired by my daughter
- 6:28Speaker 3: who was born with this rare condition, so I decided
- 6:32Speaker 3: to write a book about it to bring awareness and
- 6:36Speaker 3: just to be able to encourage those who you know,
- 6:39Speaker 3: have those difficulties and those those disabilities, and just encourage
- 6:45Speaker 3: them that no matter the pact that they have to take,
- 6:47Speaker 3: they can still win, they can still succeed, and just
- 6:51Speaker 3: to just make sure that you know, I've always been
- 6:55Speaker 3: excited to empower people, So this is a book of
- 6:58Speaker 3: empowerment Rezis, and it also teaches self love.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Wow that that that is amazing. I have a brother
- 7:11Speaker 1: that was a quad so I know what it's like
- 7:16Speaker 1: to deal with individuals that have disabilities. I had a friend,
- 7:21Speaker 1: she had a I forget the name of it, but
- 7:25Speaker 1: it was a bile disorder. She didn't have bio movements
- 7:29Speaker 1: like like we normally have bio moments. You know, there
- 7:35Speaker 1: were oftentimes when she would have to go to the
- 7:37Speaker 1: emergency room. So I definitely appreciate you and your willingness
- 7:47Speaker 1: to share your daughter's journey because oftentimes, even as kids,
- 7:53Speaker 1: the world can be so cruel when we we are different.
- 7:57Speaker 1: You know it is I don't even say it's just
- 8:03Speaker 1: that our ability is just a little different, because a
- 8:07Speaker 1: lot of people don't know that I have I have disabilities.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I have several. If you look at me, you wouldn't
- 8:16Speaker 1: think that I have disabilities, but one I have complications
- 8:22Speaker 1: from where I was shot from domestic violence, and I
- 8:30Speaker 1: have mobility problems. But to look at me, you wouldn't
- 8:34Speaker 1: think that there was anything wrong with me. And then
- 8:38Speaker 1: I have some underlying.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Mental health issues.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I've dealt with depression PTSD, So I definitely understand and
- 8:51Speaker 1: I thank you for, you know, just sharing your your
- 8:56Speaker 1: baby's journey and given another person and another child, another
- 9:01Speaker 1: adult out there the encouragement in the inspiration to press on.
- 9:07Speaker 1: So thank you. I think we have someone backstage. It's Trevida.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Let me see if Charita is supposed to let me
- 9:18Speaker 1: bring her up too.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Okay, hey, hey, hey, how are you? I'm good? Are you?
- 9:31Speaker 3: I'm good? Listen. I have no idea what's going on.
- 9:37Speaker 4: But my bestie text me and asked me if I
- 9:40Speaker 4: could do her show for her tonight because her internet
- 9:44Speaker 4: and stuff is out. And here I am, so you
- 9:48Speaker 4: get me yet again, and so you know that's what Bessie. Here,
- 9:56Speaker 4: they stick up and they show up for each other.
- 9:59Speaker 4: And I was like, girl, you just caught me because
- 10:03Speaker 4: I was not to get into bed. I got off
- 10:05Speaker 4: work early today too, and throats a little scratchy, so
- 10:09Speaker 4: I was going to bed.
- 10:10Speaker 3: But anyway, how are you doing? Honey? I am good.
- 10:14Speaker 3: How are you doing? How was your birthday? It was great?
- 10:22Speaker 3: It was great. I got to get it a little
- 10:24Speaker 3: get away, you know, it's always good to you know,
- 10:27Speaker 3: get away and refocus reset. So yeah, it was a
- 10:32Speaker 3: good weekend.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Okay, well, listen, my birthday's coming up at the end
- 10:38Speaker 4: of this month, and I am looking forward to turning
- 10:41Speaker 4: forty six. It's a new chapter. Chapter forty five has
- 10:46Speaker 4: been great. So I am blessed and highly favored to
- 10:51Speaker 4: have been able to survive this hurricane. And we're still
- 10:55Speaker 4: picking up the pieces from here. But let's talk about
- 11:01Speaker 4: the nomination for the book. Are you excited about that?
- 11:07Speaker 4: I'm very excited.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I was able to meet some of the authors face
- 11:12Speaker 3: to face this weekend. So, you know, we've been doing
- 11:15Speaker 3: a lot of communication, you know, through Messenger and you
- 11:19Speaker 3: know through these you know, supporting each other through our
- 11:22Speaker 3: podcast interviews. So this weekend we had a virtual book
- 11:26Speaker 3: fair and a couple authors came who were local, so
- 11:31Speaker 3: just to be able to put the name with the faces.
- 11:34Speaker 3: They're just as sweet and genuine in person as they
- 11:37Speaker 3: are online. So it was very very rewarding just to
- 11:41Speaker 3: see them and love on them in person.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Okay, I saw the pictures from the event that you
- 11:50Speaker 4: guys are at for the DAG Awards just a little.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I think she got knocked out. She probably look South Carolina.
- 12:10Speaker 3: It was.
- 12:13Speaker 1: North Carolina. South Carolina was destroyed mainly with this this
- 12:18Speaker 1: past hurricane, and a lot of them have just started
- 12:22Speaker 1: to get their power back on and then their internets
- 12:25Speaker 1: go it goes in and out. I was there because
- 12:29Speaker 1: I am of course from South Carolina as well, but
- 12:32Speaker 1: I am in Georgia right now, so I escaped that
- 12:35Speaker 1: part of it, but I was there when the storm
- 12:37Speaker 1: actually hit. My nephew is a firefighter. Shout out to
- 12:42Speaker 1: our first defenders. He's a firefighter. He's actually he works
- 12:46Speaker 1: in two departments in Greenville, South Carolina. He works in
- 12:50Speaker 1: South Greenville as a lieutenant and he's the chief of
- 12:56Speaker 1: the fire department of Dunklin, which is near the border
- 12:59Speaker 1: of Greenville and Greenwood. So shout out to him for
- 13:04Speaker 1: what he do. He just come off a forty eight
- 13:07Speaker 1: hour shift, so I definitely know what they're going through
- 13:11Speaker 1: up there. I saw a lot of the videos and
- 13:14Speaker 1: pictures of the down power lines, the flooding and all
- 13:18Speaker 1: of the stuff. Greenville, the city of Greenville downtown, it
- 13:21Speaker 1: was destroyed. I'm talking about it was under water. And
- 13:26Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of what was going on in
- 13:29Speaker 1: Spartanburg as well, and how it just walked away a
- 13:32Speaker 1: whole intersection on the interstate from I twenty six to
- 13:39Speaker 1: I forty. You can't even google it on the map.
- 13:41Speaker 1: It don't even show on the map. Anymore right now.
- 13:43Speaker 1: They said it's gonna be midw five before those those
- 13:51Speaker 1: interstates are back up, So definitely, I understand. I understand
- 13:58Speaker 1: their their frustration. I understand their struggle. Right now, a
- 14:02Speaker 1: lot of people, even families, have yet to hear from
- 14:06Speaker 1: their families that are in North Carolina. You know, people
- 14:09Speaker 1: are posting pictures, you know, trying to see if people
- 14:12Speaker 1: have seen these people, you know, and people lost Sailor Action.
- 14:17Speaker 1: You know.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Now people are having to.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Understand how serious it it is to be able to
- 14:22Speaker 1: connect to these satellites. They're now developing these phones now
- 14:27Speaker 1: that you can connect directly to the satellite, so all
- 14:31Speaker 1: those that have Apple phones, they can if you're selling service,
- 14:35Speaker 1: you ever lose your selling service, you can connect directly
- 14:38Speaker 1: to the satellite that's in your area. And a lot
- 14:41Speaker 1: of people don't even know that. So it was a
- 14:43Speaker 1: lot of people without connection to their families. So wow,
- 14:48Speaker 1: and you get to celebrate a birthday and you get
- 14:51Speaker 1: to meet some of these amazing authors that you chat with.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I tell you that is an amazing feeling. I love
- 14:58Speaker 1: doing live events where you can come off the social
- 15:02Speaker 1: media and actually put a face to that that voice
- 15:06Speaker 1: that you hear, you know sometime and then sometimes we
- 15:09Speaker 1: don't always look like but these these these screams say
- 15:13Speaker 1: we look like. But I just say, everybody say exactly
- 15:18Speaker 1: the same. I sound exactly the same, and I act
- 15:21Speaker 1: exactly the same. So I'm grateful, need to I'm the same.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I want to know what truly.
- 15:31Speaker 1: This journey has been like. I know, how how far
- 15:35Speaker 1: away are you guys from actually partaking in this event,
- 15:40Speaker 1: having your families come out and help celebrate you, and
- 15:44Speaker 1: being able to walk that red carpet and being able
- 15:48Speaker 1: to get that award? How far away are we from that?
- 15:53Speaker 3: So? Where about twenty seven days away? Twenty seven days
- 15:57Speaker 3: away No. Number tenth at Theater four forty seven in
- 16:01Speaker 3: Park Forest, Illinois. It's been such an amazing journey. Even now,
- 16:08Speaker 3: everybody's so excited just to network, just to fellowship with
- 16:13Speaker 3: each other. We're all winners in the end, no matter
- 16:17Speaker 3: what happens. And I love the love and support of everybody.
- 16:21Speaker 3: We all know that regardless of what happens. I love
- 16:26Speaker 3: the connections that we built and we have forever connections.
- 16:30Speaker 3: And that's what I loved about the journey.
- 16:33Speaker 1: And that's what it's all about, you know, out. It's
- 16:37Speaker 1: amazing when you can connect with like minded people that
- 16:41Speaker 1: it's on one accord, you can get so much, so
- 16:46Speaker 1: so much done. I'm excited for all of you guys.
- 16:51Speaker 1: It's just it's amazing. And then to be nominated. So
- 16:55Speaker 1: how did y'all get nominated? Was it by your peers
- 16:58Speaker 1: or was it by a committee?
- 17:02Speaker 3: So the Distinguished Authors Guild group you. So there is
- 17:08Speaker 3: a form that you would fill out. So anybody who
- 17:11Speaker 3: wants to be an author, who thinking about being an author,
- 17:14Speaker 3: who wrote a book, I encourage you to join the
- 17:17Speaker 3: Distinguished Authors Guild group on Facebook and that group is
- 17:22Speaker 3: going to guide you. You submit a form with your
- 17:25Speaker 3: book and they have a team that they have put
- 17:29Speaker 3: together who read the books that are submitted and they
- 17:33Speaker 3: provide feedback to the CEO, Gina Gadson, and they decide
- 17:38Speaker 3: whose books are nominated and then they notify all the
- 17:43Speaker 3: nominees and then you author. This amazing process. They you know,
- 17:48Speaker 3: get you in front of different audiences such as this podcast,
- 17:53Speaker 3: so thank you again for having us, and they just
- 17:55Speaker 3: they just support you through and even during the process,
- 17:59Speaker 3: even after the process. So you just submit your book,
- 18:03Speaker 3: submit your book through the Distinguished Author's Guild and then
- 18:07Speaker 3: they let you know if you're a nominee. Oh that's great.
- 18:14Speaker 4: That's a very simple process too, and I think a
- 18:17Speaker 4: lot of self published authors need to actually do that.
- 18:23Speaker 4: But finding areas and networks where there are more writers
- 18:29Speaker 4: and authors that look like us, it's sometimes kind of
- 18:32Speaker 4: hard to do. And since becoming a self published author,
- 18:39Speaker 4: have you found it difficult to find groups of people
- 18:42Speaker 4: that look like you, like you and I?
- 18:46Speaker 3: You know what so far?
- 18:48Speaker 1: Now?
- 18:48Speaker 3: So I think it's just the connection. So Distinguished Author
- 18:53Speaker 3: Guild is a group you know of people who look
- 18:56Speaker 3: like you and I, and then they just connect you
- 19:00Speaker 3: with all the other associations. You know how Facebook? Do
- 19:04Speaker 3: you know you can say something, Yeah, it brings up.
- 19:13Speaker 3: So no, it's not really difficult. You just have to
- 19:17Speaker 3: be careful because you know, becoming an author, you know
- 19:19Speaker 3: that all these people now who are you know, in
- 19:23Speaker 3: your inbox trying to do this and that for you
- 19:25Speaker 3: and you know, get your money. It's like you become
- 19:31Speaker 3: a target. Uh, So you definitely have to have decernment
- 19:36Speaker 3: wisdom to know who is actually real and who you
- 19:41Speaker 3: know is real to connect, right, they are, they're coming,
- 19:45Speaker 3: They're email you they inbox you and they're wanting to,
- 19:49Speaker 3: you know, do something for a video trailer or you know,
- 19:54Speaker 3: they want they're telling you what the services are, so
- 19:58Speaker 3: you know, you just want to be careful, you know,
- 20:00Speaker 3: with who you connect with and who you choose just
- 20:02Speaker 3: a yeah decision.
- 20:07Speaker 4: That is definitely true because there's always like my inbox
- 20:10Speaker 4: is always blowing up with people.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Well, what are you doing.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I can market your book for you, and it's gonna
- 20:16Speaker 4: cost you like five hundred dollars if I market for you,
- 20:19Speaker 4: and I can teach you how to do this, this, this,
- 20:21Speaker 4: and this, And it's like, okay, but you're gonna charge
- 20:25Speaker 4: me twelve hundred dollars for you to do all of
- 20:28Speaker 4: this when it's not even twelve hundred dollars worth of
- 20:31Speaker 4: work that you're gonna do. You're gonna give me a
- 20:33Speaker 4: form that I'm gonna have to fill out and I'm
- 20:35Speaker 4: still gonna have to do the majority of the work anyway,
- 20:39Speaker 4: So let me just do it myself and it's gonna
- 20:42Speaker 4: be ten times cheaper than what it is that you're
- 20:45Speaker 4: trying to get me to.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Pay you for.
- 20:48Speaker 4: So have you found it to be where you get
- 20:54Speaker 4: probably at least five a day where they're saying, Okay,
- 20:58Speaker 4: if you sign up for this course, I can give
- 21:01Speaker 4: you this, or I can give you these leads to
- 21:04Speaker 4: help you sell your book in these areas are you
- 21:09Speaker 4: can be part of this.
- 21:11Speaker 3: How many of those do you think you get a day?
- 21:15Speaker 3: You know what? They range from about three to five
- 21:18Speaker 3: a day. So the biggest thing is they are trying
- 21:21Speaker 3: to help me build reviews on Amazon. So again I'm
- 21:26Speaker 3: very new to the process. So even being new to
- 21:29Speaker 3: the you know, self published process, again, I perate for
- 21:33Speaker 3: desernment and wisdom because you know, I don't want to
- 21:36Speaker 3: just yeah anybody, you know, Yeah, a lot of the
- 21:41Speaker 3: things you can, you know, get done by yourself. I
- 21:45Speaker 3: mean especially things like Amazar reviews. You know, you're asking
- 21:47Speaker 3: your friends and your family just to go, you know,
- 21:50Speaker 3: leave a review. But I have people that reach out
- 21:53Speaker 3: and they're giving me a list of the things, especially
- 21:56Speaker 3: graphic designers, right, graphic designers are the biggest have been
- 22:00Speaker 3: reaching out to me. Yes, I'm trying to give me.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Some Yeah, those definitely are the main ones because they're like, Okay,
- 22:11Speaker 4: well I can create a logo, I can do illustrations,
- 22:15Speaker 4: I could do this, And I'm like Okay, well, let
- 22:17Speaker 4: me contact you if I'm in the need for that,
- 22:20Speaker 4: because they'll always say, well, I got a free promo
- 22:23Speaker 4: that's going on and you only have to pay for
- 22:26Speaker 4: such and such, and then it might be like nineteen
- 22:28Speaker 4: ninety nine.
- 22:29Speaker 3: But then after they do.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Whatever it is their free logo is, they come back, oh,
- 22:34Speaker 4: well it's two hundred and fifty dollars.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Well, I didn't ask you to do all of that.
- 22:37Speaker 4: You said that the one little thing that you were
- 22:40Speaker 4: gonna do was nineteen ninety nine. You done went off
- 22:43Speaker 4: and did a whole video and all kind.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Of crazy stuff that I didn't ask for, and now
- 22:47Speaker 3: you mad and you want to hould me go on
- 22:50Speaker 3: watch jobs and honey, because I'm not gonna do all
- 22:52Speaker 3: of it. I that fit to do.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Have you started working on the second one that is
- 23:03Speaker 4: basically like the Parents, but I know that's what we
- 23:05Speaker 4: talked about the last time, for the parents of people
- 23:09Speaker 4: who dealing with disabilities and skin disorders and things of
- 23:16Speaker 4: that nature. Have you started on working on that book
- 23:19Speaker 4: to help others get through what they've been going through.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Yes, I have, and you know it's it's been it
- 23:30Speaker 3: I get to relive it. But this time, you know,
- 23:33Speaker 3: without the pain, you know, without the hurt. Yeah. Now
- 23:37Speaker 3: it's more so of the empowerment stage, like I can
- 23:42Speaker 3: share what you know, my thought process was my experiences
- 23:47Speaker 3: and it I can't wait to share it, like I
- 23:50Speaker 3: cannot wait. I can't wait to share it. You know.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Now I'm just you know, getting thoughts out, but you know,
- 23:57Speaker 3: just going back and reading it's just like I can't
- 24:01Speaker 3: believe that, so that happened, you know, of her life,
- 24:07Speaker 3: so mm hmm. Yeah, I can't wait to share it.
- 24:10Speaker 3: And then you you know, you got you gotta be
- 24:12Speaker 3: fired up. But you know it could be this book, this.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Book, this book.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I told you that is what I'm going to do.
- 24:22Speaker 4: When you give me what your plan is, I'm gonna
- 24:26Speaker 4: be like, okay, well this is what you can do
- 24:28Speaker 4: with this, and this is what you can do with that,
- 24:30Speaker 4: and yeah, I'm gonna stay I'm gonna keep asking.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Okay, well how is this coming? What are you doing
- 24:36Speaker 3: with this?
- 24:36Speaker 4: I am that person, like I told you, Yeah, we
- 24:40Speaker 4: met by Gods grace and his mercy. However it was
- 24:44Speaker 4: by his design and whenever he puts a person in
- 24:46Speaker 4: front of me and they told me whatever it is
- 24:48Speaker 4: that they want to do. Oh yeah, I'm gonna get
- 24:51Speaker 4: on your nerves about it until it's actually done. Now,
- 24:54Speaker 4: for myself, somebody else has the whole man accountable for
- 24:57Speaker 4: things that I say that I'm gonna do, so so
- 25:00Speaker 4: it's like I can push you all night and day.
- 25:02Speaker 4: But for me, it's like, okay, am I gonna drag
- 25:05Speaker 4: my feet on something? And sometimes I.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Do, but I'm always all over the place anyway, So
- 25:10Speaker 3: it's like, eventually I do do what I said I
- 25:13Speaker 3: was gonna do. It's just that I never take time
- 25:16Speaker 3: to celebrate any of.
- 25:17Speaker 4: The stuff that I do. I just do it and
- 25:19Speaker 4: be like, Okay, yeah, I did that. Let's move on
- 25:21Speaker 4: to something else. And I'm in a place now where
- 25:24Speaker 4: I'm starting to learn how to celebrate those things. Because
- 25:28Speaker 4: one thing I will say, I've written four books myself.
- 25:32Speaker 4: I've been in a couple of anthologies. But you know what,
- 25:35Speaker 4: I have never done a book signing for neither book,
- 25:38Speaker 4: not one.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Why not have no clue? I have absolutely no clue.
- 25:46Speaker 3: I have not done that. You know when? So when
- 25:50Speaker 3: I first I had a friend of mine, when I
- 25:53Speaker 3: first told her I was writing a book, she was
- 25:55Speaker 3: so excited that she was like, I'm throwing you a
- 25:58Speaker 3: book signing, and I'm like, like, I now, mind you.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I didn't tell anybody that I was writing a book
- 26:09Speaker 3: because I didn't want anybody's fear to get in here.
- 26:14Speaker 3: So I announced that I was writing a book, like
- 26:18Speaker 3: after I wrote the book, you know, I showed the
- 26:21Speaker 3: cover and then I announced it. And even though I
- 26:25Speaker 3: did it that way, the support has still been amazing.
- 26:28Speaker 3: So she set me up that first book signing and
- 26:32Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't even know what to do. I
- 26:36Speaker 3: wrote interest to Google how the setup is, Like I
- 26:40Speaker 3: didn't know, you know, I just know I had I
- 26:43Speaker 3: know I was going to invite people to come, and
- 26:46Speaker 3: I was going to sign these books. That's all I knew.
- 26:48Speaker 3: But to do it because for one like me, or
- 26:52Speaker 3: I can tell you just like me, very personable, can
- 26:55Speaker 3: talk all day about things that you're passionate about. So
- 26:59Speaker 3: you know, you get to talk about your book and
- 27:02Speaker 3: then you get to tell people your journey. And that's
- 27:04Speaker 3: what I loved about the book fair this weekend because
- 27:07Speaker 3: these were people I didn't know at all. Like it
- 27:10Speaker 3: was breakfast in Gary, Indiana, and as people were looking
- 27:19Speaker 3: in to eat breakfast, you know, we were the vendor there. However,
- 27:23Speaker 3: you know, were people that walked up to the table
- 27:26Speaker 3: and there were people just sitting there eating breakfast, and
- 27:29Speaker 3: so you know, I was just kindly, hello, how are you?
- 27:31Speaker 3: Can I tell you about my book? And you know,
- 27:35Speaker 3: for me, like I had to talk all day, but
- 27:37Speaker 3: I'm kind of shy in those kind of areas. But
- 27:39Speaker 3: that and I connected with some really good people just
- 27:43Speaker 3: just sharing that. So that was a really good feeling.
- 27:48Speaker 3: But do it. Go get you find you a place.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Look and you have four, so go find your place.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Got to be expensive. Let's go and find you a
- 28:02Speaker 3: place and listen, get your book, get your books, sign
- 28:07Speaker 3: them and white people out. It's amazing, Like and even
- 28:10Speaker 3: for being my first time book signing event, like the support,
- 28:15Speaker 3: it was amazing. And I told you before like I've
- 28:19Speaker 3: included my daughter in this whole journey, so just to
- 28:23Speaker 3: see her confidence in her glow, you know, yeah, this
- 28:28Speaker 3: too was amazing. So yes, so I do have a
- 28:32Speaker 3: title for this book coming in the works, and I'm
- 28:39Speaker 3: to share it. Like I said, I even just going
- 28:42Speaker 3: back and looking you know at it today, and like
- 28:46Speaker 3: I told you before I wrote, I already wrote it,
- 28:50Speaker 3: you know, when I had, I felt like I had
- 28:53Speaker 3: the story down. So really just going back and referring
- 28:57Speaker 3: to that and then just you know, adding on then
- 29:00Speaker 3: just going kind of deeper, just for those mothers and fathers.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Fathers deal with you. So it's not just for mothers,
- 29:10Speaker 3: but to encourage fathers to I told my husband all
- 29:13Speaker 3: the time, you know you have a story too, like
- 29:15Speaker 3: you have too because you you know, you had your
- 29:20Speaker 3: own experience in it. But go back. Now I get
- 29:24Speaker 3: to hold you accountable those books. Yes, yes, you definitely
- 29:31Speaker 3: will have to do that.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Ask me why I haven't done one, And I think
- 29:37Speaker 4: for me is for one, I've had people who told
- 29:41Speaker 4: me that I would never write a book.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Number two, I've done it.
- 29:45Speaker 4: And anytime somebody told me I'm not gonna do something
- 29:47Speaker 4: or I can't do something, I do it.
- 29:50Speaker 3: And then it's like, Okay, yeah, you told me I
- 29:52Speaker 3: couldn't do it.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Now I did it.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Let's move on to something else.
- 29:54Speaker 4: So I never take the time to celebrate anything because
- 29:58Speaker 4: of that, I'm trying this year. I've broken the habit
- 30:03Speaker 4: just a little bit of not celebrating. So I've started
- 30:06Speaker 4: to celebrate myself and things that I've accomplished a little
- 30:09Speaker 4: bit more so than before, and so it's like, Okay, yes,
- 30:14Speaker 4: I know I need to do this book signing. When
- 30:17Speaker 4: I did the last book that I did, it's a
- 30:20Speaker 4: queen's mindset to, uh, well you go Cincida's.
- 30:27Speaker 3: That's my mentor she I'll help her set it up.
- 30:31Speaker 3: I live in Indiana, but I'll take a flight I
- 30:34Speaker 3: want to up, so if we can get together instead
- 30:38Speaker 3: of that was amazing. But it's important to celebrate yourself.
- 30:42Speaker 3: And my birthday is one of the biggest things I
- 30:44Speaker 3: celebrate every year, whether it's just going to dinner, whether
- 30:48Speaker 3: it don't have to be big. Yeah, that's the time
- 30:51Speaker 3: where I can celebrate me. And when I became an author,
- 30:56Speaker 3: it was it was surreal, Like I was like, thank you,
- 31:04Speaker 3: look sick. I shouldn't never said anything because she's gonna
- 31:11Speaker 3: ensure that this happened. Oh lord, I don't think I
- 31:16Speaker 3: ever told her that I had never done this either.
- 31:19Speaker 3: I don't think I ever mentioned that, And now that
- 31:22Speaker 3: I've said it out loud, she's definitely.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Gonna push for that. Like we have an event coming
- 31:28Speaker 4: up this weekend in Charleston. It's gonna be different for
- 31:32Speaker 4: me because I'm gonna be in the space of actually
- 31:35Speaker 4: speaking in front of people, and like we did. I
- 31:39Speaker 4: did something with her in twenty twenty two, I think
- 31:43Speaker 4: it was, and we were at Myrtle Beach. It was
- 31:46Speaker 4: a small little thing. It wasn't too big, but I
- 31:49Speaker 4: didn't have a lot to say. It was a new
- 31:52Speaker 4: space for me and I made some good friends there.
- 31:56Speaker 4: But this is different because I'm one of the ambassadors
- 31:59Speaker 4: for our South Carolina area for our podcast team as well,
- 32:04Speaker 4: So this is definitely taking me outside of my comfort zone.
- 32:07Speaker 4: So anything that she sees within you, child, she gonna
- 32:11Speaker 4: bring it out of you, even if you're trying to
- 32:13Speaker 4: hide behind the scenes.
- 32:14Speaker 3: She just don't go for that.
- 32:16Speaker 4: So this is why I'm doing the podcast. As a
- 32:19Speaker 4: matter of fact, as well, we did a virtual monologue
- 32:22Speaker 4: together and we've been hooked.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Ever since to each other.
- 32:26Speaker 4: That's my big sister, my mentor, my friend, my inspiration,
- 32:31Speaker 4: my encouragement, all of those things.
- 32:33Speaker 3: So I love her. I adore her in so many ways.
- 32:37Speaker 4: But let me tell you, she ain't gonna let you
- 32:39Speaker 4: just sit back in the sidelines and not do nothing.
- 32:42Speaker 3: It's gonna happen. So I know that this weekend is
- 32:48Speaker 3: gonna be amazing.
- 32:49Speaker 4: But I also know what's coming in twenty twenty five
- 32:52Speaker 4: is gonna blow my mind even more because she sees
- 32:56Speaker 4: stuff in me that I be trying to hide sometimes
- 32:59Speaker 4: and don't ever work out that way because if she
- 33:02Speaker 4: gets a glimpse of it, she's gonna pull it out.
- 33:05Speaker 3: So it's just they no need to trying to hide it.
- 33:08Speaker 3: But definitely hold me to the book signing, yes, yeah, yes,
- 33:15Speaker 3: hold me to beginning of time by the end of
- 33:21Speaker 3: this year, beginning at least one book signing I should
- 33:26Speaker 3: do for before the end of the year. I don't
- 33:28Speaker 3: necessarily know if I it's gonna go out. Okay, there
- 33:34Speaker 3: we go.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Listen, the double keeps trying to mess ups up, and
- 33:38Speaker 4: I ain't gonna give him no credit. I ain't gonna
- 33:40Speaker 4: just like yesterday, he gets no credit, he gets no
- 33:42Speaker 4: play and what we got going on because he just
- 33:46Speaker 4: get on my nerves right now because he missing with
- 33:48Speaker 4: this internet service and we got stuff we gotta say,
- 33:51Speaker 4: and we got stuff we gotta do. But I don't
- 33:55Speaker 4: know if I'll do a book signing before the end
- 33:56Speaker 4: of the year, but I definitely know the beginning of
- 33:59Speaker 4: next year. That's going to be something that I put
- 34:01Speaker 4: in the works for myself. But learning to celebrate me
- 34:07Speaker 4: is a hard thing for me to do. I'm not
- 34:09Speaker 4: really good at that, but I'm working on it. I'm
- 34:14Speaker 4: working on it. I will say that I am getting better.
- 34:19Speaker 4: It is one thing that my kids do fuss at
- 34:22Speaker 4: me about as well, because I don't. And they're like, ma,
- 34:26Speaker 4: you need to celebrate. You need to do something nice
- 34:29Speaker 4: for yourself.
- 34:29Speaker 3: You need to do this.
- 34:30Speaker 4: And I'm like, yeah, okay, well I'll go you know,
- 34:33Speaker 4: I might go to Starbucks or something or something crazy
- 34:37Speaker 4: like that. And they're like, Okay, that's not really celebrating.
- 34:39Speaker 4: That's just something you do on a regular basis anyway,
- 34:42Speaker 4: So you need to do something outside of that.
- 34:44Speaker 3: And I'm like, okay, well, I.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Don't really know what to do, which I don't because
- 34:48Speaker 4: I'm always focused on everyone else.
- 34:52Speaker 3: I'll do better one of these days. I don't, you
- 34:54Speaker 3: know what. It's just a mong thing. Mo. I learned that,
- 35:00Speaker 3: but with my mom, because she does so much, I
- 35:06Speaker 3: plan stuff for her, like surprise parties, like you're gonna
- 35:09Speaker 3: you're gonna get celebrated, you know, And I think as
- 35:12Speaker 3: mothers we automatically like our nation. You know, we are
- 35:17Speaker 3: natural nurturers, were natural cares. So this year was a
- 35:21Speaker 3: year that I wanted to make sure that you know,
- 35:26Speaker 3: I've done something different and I done something for me.
- 35:29Speaker 3: And even being an author, sometimes it was surreal, Like
- 35:34Speaker 3: there are times even now that I'm an author. And
- 35:38Speaker 3: what I love about distinguished author's guilt is they address
- 35:42Speaker 3: you that way, like they make sure that they put
- 35:45Speaker 3: you know, author in front of your name every time
- 35:47Speaker 3: they address you. So it makes you like like I'm
- 35:51Speaker 3: an author, like I really am an author, and you
- 35:55Speaker 3: you began to address yourself the way you feel it.
- 35:58Speaker 3: So it's definitely necessary, you know, to celebrate yourself, just
- 36:02Speaker 3: like even the small winds. I'll always make sure that
- 36:05Speaker 3: you know that is celebrated. But now that I know
- 36:08Speaker 3: that you don't celebrate you know that I'm rooting for
- 36:11Speaker 3: you because I'm always rooting for you, but now I
- 36:17Speaker 3: will cool, but I thank you for your birthday to
- 36:23Speaker 3: celebrate you, to make sure that you Okay, okay, that listen. Okay.
- 36:36Speaker 4: I just did something like I just redesigned a new
- 36:39Speaker 4: business card. And when I was working on the design
- 36:43Speaker 4: for the business card, I was like, Okay, I'm an author,
- 36:46Speaker 4: I'm an editor, and I also am a podcast host.
- 36:50Speaker 4: So I was putting that on the card and I
- 36:54Speaker 4: was like, dang, I do a lot of stuff because
- 36:56Speaker 4: I have a publishing business that I started in twenty
- 36:59Speaker 4: twenty one, and so I don't really talk about that
- 37:04Speaker 4: as much either, and I just people they send me
- 37:08Speaker 4: their stuff, I get them. Currently working on a book
- 37:14Speaker 4: with some wonderful ladies, and I'm also writing in this
- 37:17Speaker 4: book as well, and it's coming out November the eighth,
- 37:21Speaker 4: and so not only do I have the honor and
- 37:23Speaker 4: luxury of being a part of this, I'm also the
- 37:27Speaker 4: editor and publisher for this book as well.
- 37:30Speaker 3: So it's a beautiful thing.
- 37:32Speaker 4: And the title of this book is called From Their Eyes,
- 37:35Speaker 4: and it's an anthology book and it speaks about basically
- 37:40Speaker 4: people who were in foster care, who were raised by
- 37:44Speaker 4: other family members or family friends, who were adopted, things
- 37:48Speaker 4: of that nature. So it's basically telling their story from
- 37:51Speaker 4: their experience. And so it's a spin off to the
- 37:55Speaker 4: first book that the Young Lady did, so I have
- 37:59Speaker 4: the honor and luxury of doing that one and also,
- 38:03Speaker 4: you know, publishing it for someone else. So when I
- 38:05Speaker 4: was doing that business, card. I was like, okay, do
- 38:08Speaker 4: I just do it for my business or do I
- 38:11Speaker 4: do it for who I am and the things that
- 38:15Speaker 4: I actually do right now? And so when I was
- 38:19Speaker 4: doing it, I did it. I was like, okay, author,
- 38:22Speaker 4: editor and podcast hosts, and so I put all of
- 38:26Speaker 4: my information on there. And so my kids were like, okay,
- 38:29Speaker 4: it's about time you started putting your titles on stuff.
- 38:32Speaker 3: And I was like, okay, I'm getting used to these things.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I had done a bid, you know, I asked you
- 38:41Speaker 3: guys to send your bios over so that I could
- 38:43Speaker 3: figure out what we would talk about. And so I
- 38:46Speaker 3: was happy. It was a hard one. Yes, yes, and
- 38:54Speaker 3: it was hard for me. Yes, it was hard. So
- 38:59Speaker 3: I yeah it was.
- 39:00Speaker 4: And so he was like, send over your bio and
- 39:03Speaker 4: so I'm sending over and I'm like, okay, well I've
- 39:07Speaker 4: done a lot of stuff, and so I sent it over.
- 39:12Speaker 3: He was like, okay, can you shorten that just a
- 39:14Speaker 3: little bit. I said, sorry, do you not understand it
- 39:18Speaker 3: took me a while to even get this rough draft.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Let me see what I can cut out. And he
- 39:25Speaker 3: was like, look here, don't even worry about it. Don't
- 39:27Speaker 3: cut it out. Don't do nothing.
- 39:29Speaker 4: I'll just introduce you and then we'll go into all
- 39:33Speaker 4: of the stuff that you do.
- 39:34Speaker 3: And I was like, I didn't realize how hard it
- 39:37Speaker 3: is to do a bio for yourself in a sense
- 39:41Speaker 3: of putting your accomplishments and things.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Like I said, I just do the stuff because somebody
- 39:48Speaker 4: told me I couldn't do it, and I once I
- 39:51Speaker 4: do it, I just move on. I don't think about
- 39:53Speaker 4: it anymore. And I know that's crazy and I need
- 39:58Speaker 4: to start celebrating it. But it's like, okay, I need to,
- 40:04Speaker 4: you know, acknowledge the fact that I've done this stuff.
- 40:07Speaker 4: And like my oldest son would fuss at me all
- 40:11Speaker 4: the time because I had this this binder full of
- 40:14Speaker 4: awards and he was like, okay, you need to hang
- 40:17Speaker 4: these on the wall. And I was like, yeah, maybe
- 40:21Speaker 4: one day i'll hang them up, and he was like, no,
- 40:24Speaker 4: you need to hang get them out of the folder
- 40:27Speaker 4: and hang them on the wall. And so one day
- 40:31Speaker 4: he came home from working, so I had them all
- 40:33Speaker 4: lined up in my hallway on the wall. He was like,
- 40:36Speaker 4: it's about time because I know your awards were getting
- 40:39Speaker 4: mad at you being in that dog on folder because
- 40:43Speaker 4: I didn't go to college until I was thirty four,
- 40:48Speaker 4: and I made every excuse to not do that as well.
- 40:54Speaker 4: And my daughter was like, because by then I had
- 40:58Speaker 4: been out of school for nineteen years, and it was like, okay,
- 41:01Speaker 4: I have no idea what I need to be doing.
- 41:03Speaker 4: And I was just recovering from having a major flat
- 41:07Speaker 4: with my condition KERII malformation, and I had every excuse.
- 41:12Speaker 4: And so my daughter was like, you made an appointment
- 41:13Speaker 4: to go and talk to the enrollment specialist. Get up,
- 41:16Speaker 4: get dress, let's go. And I was like, yeah, I
- 41:18Speaker 4: don't think I'm going. She was like, no, get up,
- 41:20Speaker 4: get dressed, we're going. So we get out there, and
- 41:22Speaker 4: so as we're sitting there talking to the enrollment specialists,
- 41:25Speaker 4: I'm making up every excuse as to why I cannot
- 41:28Speaker 4: start school. And my daughter looked at me she said,
- 41:31Speaker 4: look here, let me go ahead and tell you something.
- 41:33Speaker 4: She said, there is nothing that you cannot do. I've
- 41:36Speaker 4: seen you lose your speech, I've seen you lose your
- 41:38Speaker 4: ability to walk, but I've also watched you regain every
- 41:41Speaker 4: bit of everything that you lost. So there's absolutely no
- 41:44Speaker 4: reason why you cannot go to school. So go in there,
- 41:48Speaker 4: take that assessment test, and then after that, we're going
- 41:51Speaker 4: to go talk to financial Aid because you're going to
- 41:53Speaker 4: start school. And lo and behold. I passed the assessment test,
- 41:58Speaker 4: got in, went to Financial Aid, enrolled, and I started
- 42:01Speaker 4: school actually on my youngest son's birthday, and so it
- 42:06Speaker 4: was it was a great experience, and I actually finished
- 42:08Speaker 4: and graduated in a year and nine months. It was
- 42:10Speaker 4: supposed to take me two years to complete it. I
- 42:13Speaker 4: did it in a year and nine months. And so,
- 42:16Speaker 4: looking at the stuff that I experienced while doing all.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Of that, it was.
- 42:24Speaker 4: A note that I had put in there when I
- 42:26Speaker 4: joined the National Society of Leadership and Success that they
- 42:30Speaker 4: ask you to write down what your goals are for
- 42:34Speaker 4: that while you're in school. And so when I did that,
- 42:37Speaker 4: I didn't look at that paper again until I was
- 42:42Speaker 4: doing an orientation for the new people who were getting
- 42:45Speaker 4: inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success. And
- 42:49Speaker 4: so when I looked at the paper of the goal
- 42:51Speaker 4: that I had, I was already in the middle of
- 42:53Speaker 4: accomplishing that goal, and I had never looked at that
- 42:56Speaker 4: paper from the day that I put it in that folder.
- 42:59Speaker 4: I looked that it about a month or so before
- 43:02Speaker 4: graduation came up, and I was speechless when I was
- 43:05Speaker 4: telling them, explaining them how they were going to fill
- 43:08Speaker 4: that paper out, and I was like, you guys, I
- 43:10Speaker 4: gotta take a moment here because I did not realize
- 43:14Speaker 4: I had accomplished a goal because I haven't opened this
- 43:16Speaker 4: binder since they gave it to us, and that was
- 43:20Speaker 4: that I wanted to finish school by the spring semester
- 43:24Speaker 4: in twenty seventeen. And I had accomplished that without looking at.
- 43:28Speaker 3: That paper again. So if I write it down, it's
- 43:33Speaker 3: going to happen. See yeah, right, you wrote it, so
- 43:40Speaker 3: it you know. So hearing your testimony as well, because
- 43:44Speaker 3: it's inspiring. I love that your kids push you and
- 43:48Speaker 3: your kids remind you that you can do it because
- 43:51Speaker 3: you know, our kids they can be our biggest advocate.
- 43:55Speaker 3: They can also, you know, hurt our feelings at the
- 43:58Speaker 3: same time. But yeah, you know, and my parents too.
- 44:04Speaker 3: I'm the same way. I'm the biggest advocate. And because
- 44:07Speaker 3: you know, anything that our parents do for us after
- 44:10Speaker 3: we're adults is a blessing because they don't have to yes,
- 44:14Speaker 3: and so I love it exactly. I'm in that with
- 44:17Speaker 3: my mom my, girl. You know what, come on, let's
- 44:20Speaker 3: you know, whatever you want to do, let me help
- 44:22Speaker 3: you do that. And even in this author journey, she's
- 44:25Speaker 3: one hundred percent there. And I tell her all the time.
- 44:28Speaker 3: I can't thank you enough. I just just know that
- 44:31Speaker 3: when the Lord blesses me, you're gonna be blessed to
- 44:35Speaker 3: bless But yeah, so most definitely. Now you told me,
- 44:41Speaker 3: I'm gonna make sure I stay on you too. Now
- 44:44Speaker 3: make sure I stay on YouTube. Make sure you start
- 44:47Speaker 3: celebrating yourself. So for your birthday, that's what we're gonna
- 44:51Speaker 3: start with.
- 44:52Speaker 4: Yeah, my birthday is the twenty ninth of this month,
- 44:55Speaker 4: and I'm gonna be forty six. And my mom was
- 45:00Speaker 4: the big supporter of this podcast thing. And when she
- 45:07Speaker 4: began to transition over, she actually my mentor let her
- 45:12Speaker 4: host her own podcast episode, and yeah, and so she was.
- 45:19Speaker 4: She was definitely one of a kind and I miss
- 45:22Speaker 4: her dearly, but she supported the podcast. I'm grateful that
- 45:27Speaker 4: she got an opportunity to see me do this. Also,
- 45:30Speaker 4: it was the first time I introduced my mom to
- 45:34Speaker 4: my podcast family. She said that she was shocked and
- 45:39Speaker 4: surprised that I actually had friends because I'm a loner
- 45:44Speaker 4: by choice, and so she could not believe it and
- 45:48Speaker 4: they allow her to do the prayer. Oh my gosh,
- 45:51Speaker 4: my mom, that prayer.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Was not.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Without some explored in there. So I was like, she
- 46:03Speaker 4: was like, well, God, know who I'm talking to. It's
- 46:06Speaker 4: all right, and you know who I'm talking about.
- 46:09Speaker 3: You are absolutely right, Mama, You are absolutely right. He
- 46:13Speaker 3: knows who he created.
- 46:15Speaker 4: But you know, I am grateful that my mom was
- 46:20Speaker 4: here to experience that because it was new and different
- 46:23Speaker 4: for me. And so when I'm missing her, I can
- 46:25Speaker 4: definitely go back and watch her episode. And then the
- 46:29Speaker 4: one that we did together, that lady was something else,
- 46:35Speaker 4: something else, And I am grateful that she was my
- 46:39Speaker 4: mom because she's taught me a lot while she was here,
- 46:41Speaker 4: and she taught me a lot while she's been gone.
- 46:44Speaker 4: And you know, you don't realize just how much they
- 46:48Speaker 4: impact your lives until you don't have them in the
- 46:51Speaker 4: sense of being able to reach out and touch them.
- 46:55Speaker 4: So I created a lot of memories because I wasn't
- 47:00Speaker 4: raised by my mom, So it was one of those
- 47:02Speaker 4: things where I grieved her a lot before she left,
- 47:08Speaker 4: and then when she left, it was a different kind
- 47:13Speaker 4: of grieving, so to speak. And I'm working on a
- 47:17Speaker 4: book for her now, and it is one that is
- 47:23Speaker 4: titled from Fractured to Fulfilled My Journey with my Mom,
- 47:28Speaker 4: and it's basically where we close the chapter of going
- 47:34Speaker 4: from a fractured mother and daughter relationship to one that's fulfilled.
- 47:39Speaker 3: And so that's the one that I'm working on now.
- 47:42Speaker 4: I hadn't really told anybody about this one, but that
- 47:46Speaker 4: is the one that I am working on now. So
- 47:49Speaker 4: don't have a deadline for when that one is coming out,
- 47:53Speaker 4: but I'll share the cover that I have for it,
- 47:57Speaker 4: So I will do that.
- 47:59Speaker 3: Okay, I get a.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 48:09Speaker 3: So you know, I am grateful and honored that you
- 48:13Speaker 3: are here tonight. I'm grateful that my best friend asked
- 48:18Speaker 3: me to do this. And you know what, I will
- 48:20Speaker 3: say this, Normally, I would have been at work and
- 48:23Speaker 3: I would not have been able to do this tonight.
- 48:26Speaker 4: So I always say that it's always by God's design
- 48:29Speaker 4: that we're in the space and in the time that
- 48:32Speaker 4: we're supposed to be in. Because I usually worked twelve
- 48:35Speaker 4: hour shifts, today we had to close early because our
- 48:40Speaker 4: provider had to leave at five, so we didn't have
- 48:43Speaker 4: anybody in the office, and so I came home and
- 48:48Speaker 4: I actually took me a little nap, and I was
- 48:51Speaker 4: grateful that I was able to take a little nap
- 48:53Speaker 4: and be in the space and a way to be
- 48:57Speaker 4: able to do this with you tonight. So it was
- 49:00Speaker 4: meant for us to have another conversation and for you
- 49:03Speaker 4: to get the information that I think needed to be
- 49:05Speaker 4: shared for me. So I'm not going to say that
- 49:11Speaker 4: it was you know, it's so you know, God always
- 49:19Speaker 4: knows what you're supposed to be doing, when you're supposed
- 49:22Speaker 4: to be doing it, and how it's supposed to be done.
- 49:25Speaker 4: So and these last few minutes we have not had
- 49:29Speaker 4: any interruptions with the Internet or anything like that. So
- 49:33Speaker 4: it was God's design, God's purpose, in God's plan for
- 49:37Speaker 4: us to speak again tonight. Now, is there anything that
- 49:41Speaker 4: you want to let any of the listeners know tonight about.
- 49:46Speaker 3: You that we did not talk about. Just come out
- 49:56Speaker 3: now the awards show. Just come out to support the

- 50:22Speaker 3: be such a celebration just to network, just to fellowship. Yeah,

- 51:38Speaker 4: as my best friend, this is her podcast is not
