• 0:11
SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to In the Crease, uh, a podcast where we like to shine the light on D2 Men's lacrosse.
• 0:19
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Kevin Stenstrom, and I'm joined by my partner in crime and fellow passionate lacrosse dad, Danny Moran.
• 0:29
  SPEAKER_00: How are you, Danny?
• 0:30
  SPEAKER_01: I'm good, Kevin.
• 0:31
  SPEAKER_01: How are you tonight?
• 0:32
SPEAKER_00: I am very, very good.
• 0:34
SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, since the last uh podcast, a lot has happened.
• 0:38
SPEAKER_00: We've had a lot of conference tournament championships, and the bracket selection occurred.
• 0:43
SPEAKER_00: The selection committee met and the final bracket is out, and we'll get to all that.
• 0:48
SPEAKER_00: But I want to start off tonight by highlighting something that's bigger than lacrosse that has, I think, touched the lacrosse community.
• 0:58
SPEAKER_00: So a little over two weeks ago, we found out that Ryan Scoble, who is a junior MIDI at Mercyhurst, needed a heart transplant.
• 1:10
SPEAKER_00: And you saw his team rally around him.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_00: They embraced what their family was going to.
• 1:16
SPEAKER_00: They deemed themselves no longer the Lakers, but Scoble's army, um, which I thought was just fantastic.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_00: Um, and I think a lot of the lacrosse community, and especially in the D2 world, obviously um embraced that as well.
• 1:31
SPEAKER_00: Um, I am happy to report that this past Monday a donor was found that was a match.
• 1:39
SPEAKER_00: And uh word from the Scoble family is that the transplant went beautifully.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_00: That's what the surgeon called it, went beautifully.
• 1:47
SPEAKER_00: And so that is just just great news.
• 1:50
  SPEAKER_00: It's great to hear.
• 1:51
SPEAKER_00: And so I just want to give a shout out to the Scoble family and to Ryan um and let them know that they are in our thoughts and prayers as they go through this recovery.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_00: And I know that Scoble's army is growing uh and behind them 100%.
• 2:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Ryan, we're very happy that things went well for you and the Scoble family.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_01: And just know that the entire lacrosse community from coast to coast in Division II is uh is rooting for you and and has your in their thoughts and prayers.
• 2:24
SPEAKER_01: And we just hope you to get back uh better soon.
• 2:26
SPEAKER_01: And what a great story, huh, Kevin?
• 2:28
  SPEAKER_01: What a great story.
• 2:29
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was great.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_00: I heard uh that uh uh that he actually that Ryan requested Motley's crew's kick start my heart in the OR to be played.
• 2:41
SPEAKER_00: So I mean that's just a great attitude to have going in.
• 2:45
SPEAKER_00: Love this kid already, yeah, yeah.
• 2:47
  SPEAKER_00: It's just fantastic.
• 2:48
  SPEAKER_01: It's there.
• 2:49
SPEAKER_01: All right, I'm digging it.
• 2:51
  SPEAKER_01: That's good.
• 2:51
SPEAKER_01: I'm glad to hear that things went well.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_01: And again, the the entire lacrosse community had been reaching out, and what a great thing.
• 2:59
SPEAKER_01: What a as as small as uh the the lacrosse world is, it's a big world as well.
• 3:05
SPEAKER_01: And and again, wishing all the best for Ryan and uh speedy recovery, kid.
• 3:10
  SPEAKER_01: Meet you back.
• 3:12
  SPEAKER_00: Well said, okay.
• 3:14
  SPEAKER_00: Uh now moving on.
• 3:16
SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about um the conference tournament champion, the championships for each uh conference.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_00: But because there's 10, I thought we'd mix it up a little bit tonight and do sort of like a rapid fire, quick release.
• 3:29
SPEAKER_00: So I will rapidly send you a pass uh of a of the conference, and you on the crease there with your quick release into the goal will give us a little highlights of players and stats of of that of those of those tournament games.
• 3:43
  SPEAKER_00: How does that sound?
• 3:44
SPEAKER_01: Putting the pressure on me.
• 3:46
  SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_00: All right, here we go.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_00: We're gonna start off with the Peach Belt Conference.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_01: Well, the Peach Belt Conference was the very first conference tournament for that for that conference, and uh the Montevallo Falcons over uh Uah, Alabama Huntsville.
• 4:00
  SPEAKER_01: Close game, 12-10.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_01: Uh sophomore MIDI, Connor Fredericks out of Queenstown, Maryland, was the big guy that day in that conference.

• 4:10
  SPEAKER_01: Congratulations, Monte Ballo.
• 4:12
SPEAKER_00: All right, so let's move on then to the sack.

• 4:21
  SPEAKER_01: It was a great game, 1914.
• 4:24
SPEAKER_01: Sophomore Will Canada with five goals in that game.
• 4:28
  SPEAKER_01: Congratulations, Lenore Ryan.

• 4:40
SPEAKER_01: My man Noah Haas, four goals in that game.
• 4:43
  SPEAKER_01: Noah's a good player.
• 4:45
  SPEAKER_01: He's had a great season.
• 4:46
  SPEAKER_01: Good job.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_00: Okay, now uh still in the in the the south region, but all the way out in the west.
• 4:53
  SPEAKER_00: Armak.
• 4:55
  SPEAKER_01: The Armac.
• 4:56
  SPEAKER_01: Where are we?
• 4:57
SPEAKER_01: Westminster with a huge upset over Colorado Mesa, 17-13.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_01: Uh junior attacks Spencer Winery from Thousand Oaks, California, Kev.
• 5:10
SPEAKER_01: Hit the back of the net five times in that championship game for that big upset win for Westminster.
• 5:15
  SPEAKER_01: Congratulations, Westminster.
• 5:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he also had three assists and was the all-turning MVP.
• 5:21
SPEAKER_00: So shout out to Spencer on that one.
• 5:23
  SPEAKER_00: Spencer was ball down.
• 5:25
  SPEAKER_00: He was all right.
• 5:26
SPEAKER_00: Moving on to the last in the South region, GLVC.
• 5:30
SPEAKER_01: The GLVC, U Indy over Lindenwood in a great game.
• 5:36
SPEAKER_01: That was a really good game.
• 5:37
SPEAKER_01: A one goal win, 10-9 for UIndy.
• 5:41
SPEAKER_01: Wyatt Awyer with three goals.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_01: 15 saves for goalie, Austin Barrett.
• 5:50
SPEAKER_01: 15 saves for Austin Barrett.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_01: He had himself a huge game, might have won the uh tournament for him.
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_00: Good point.
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_00: Good point.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_00: Okay, now moving on to the North region.
• 6:03
SPEAKER_00: Uh, we got four conferences to go over.
• 6:05
SPEAKER_00: We did not cover uh the uh Sunshine State Conference because they did not have a tournament championship game.
• 6:12
SPEAKER_00: Although let's just recognize Tampa as the the season champion for that conference.
• 6:18
  SPEAKER_01: That's correct.
• 6:18
SPEAKER_01: Tampa, good job this year.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_01: Uh, I know you've had a rough schedule with the postponements, but you're in the tournament.
• 6:26
  SPEAKER_01: You got your bid.
• 6:27
SPEAKER_01: Congratulations to the Spartans of Tampa.
• 6:30
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's move on to NE10.
• 6:33
  SPEAKER_01: The NE-10, Lemoyne Dolphins.
• 6:36
  SPEAKER_01: Is there any other?
• 6:37
SPEAKER_01: They're always there every year.
• 6:39
SPEAKER_01: Uh 9-4 win over St.
• 6:41
  SPEAKER_01: Anslum's a tough St.
• 6:42
  SPEAKER_01: Anslums team.
• 6:43
SPEAKER_01: Uh, senior attack, Jake Nelson with four goals.
• 6:47
  SPEAKER_01: Ready for this?
• 6:49
SPEAKER_01: CJ Hart in in goal for St.
• 6:52
  SPEAKER_01: Anslum's.
• 6:53
  SPEAKER_01: 21 saves.
• 6:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so he 21 saves for CJ Hart in goal for St.
• 7:00
  SPEAKER_01: Anslum.
• 7:01
SPEAKER_01: He had himself a game, even though it was a losing battle.
• 7:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I wrote his name down as I was watching that game, and we'll get more to him in when we talk about the brackets.
• 7:11
SPEAKER_00: I think that matchup uh with Seton Hill is going to be interesting.
• 7:14
SPEAKER_01: So yeah, congratulations to Le Moine for winning that tournament, uh that that conference.
• 7:20
SPEAKER_00: Let's go to the GMAC.
• 7:22
SPEAKER_01: The GMAC, the Mercyhurst uh over Seton Hill.
• 7:27
SPEAKER_01: Um, that was another good game.
• 7:30
SPEAKER_01: Um grad student Zach Lorenz with three goals from Bellingham, Washington, the kids from.
• 7:37
SPEAKER_01: So congratulations, Zach and the Mercyhurst uh team.
• 7:41
SPEAKER_01: Uh great job this year.
• 7:43
SPEAKER_01: What a what a squad they are.
• 7:45
  SPEAKER_00: Yep.
• 7:46
SPEAKER_00: So let's let's uh move over to the CAC then.
• 7:50
SPEAKER_01: The CAC Chestnut Hill with a championship this year, 17-9 win over Wilmington.
• 7:58
  SPEAKER_01: Ready for this?
• 7:59
SPEAKER_01: Freshman, true freshman, Jackson Melnick with three goals, five assists with an eight-point day.
• 8:06
SPEAKER_01: And Jackson's out of Milford, Pennsylvania, Kev.
• 8:11
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's great.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_00: The other thing I had was uh their their face-off specialist, Zach Ornstein, 24 of 26 face-offs in that game, and he was the tourney MVP.
• 8:21
  SPEAKER_01: I think I'd call that dominant, wouldn't you?
• 8:23
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes, I would.
• 8:24
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, I would.
• 8:26
SPEAKER_00: Okay, last but not least is the ECC.
• 8:30
SPEAKER_01: The ECC Mercy with the 7-5 win over Roberts Wesley and uh midfielder Brady Kearnan with three goals and two assists.
• 8:41
SPEAKER_01: He had five points out of the seven that mercy uh got.
• 8:44
SPEAKER_01: So congratulations to the ECC champs, Mercy Mavs.
• 8:48
SPEAKER_00: Yep, and they they also their face-off um specialist, Antonio Ray, uh won 13 of 14 face-offs.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_01: He's he's one of the best in the country, top three, Kevin.
• 8:59
  SPEAKER_01: He's no joke.
• 9:00
  SPEAKER_01: He he's he's really, really good.
• 9:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I well, when you once another dominant performance uh for Antonio.
• 9:07
  SPEAKER_00: So that's just great.
• 9:08
SPEAKER_01: It's great to see uh if they're on your team having that that dominant dominant getting you possessions, you know, time and time again, time and time again.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_01: So he's a great uh great face-off specialist, like I said, top three in the country right now.
• 9:24
  SPEAKER_01: He's just he's he's doing it all.
• 9:26
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so there we go.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_00: There's the rapid fire, quick release of the tournament championships.
• 9:32
SPEAKER_00: Good job, good job there, Danny.
• 9:34
  SPEAKER_00: So let's move on.
• 9:35
SPEAKER_00: Let's move on to the bracket now.
• 9:37
SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, let's just talk.
• 9:40
SPEAKER_00: I want to get your opinions of the bracket all overall in in the north and south region.
• 9:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, any surprises uh to you in the in the bracket and how it came out?
• 9:52
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a little bit.
• 9:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, um, I guess with the the Mercy Hearst Seton Hill game, that shook things up, I think, a little bit in that northern uh seating.
• 10:04
SPEAKER_01: Um, because Seton Hill, in my opinion, was just on fire.
• 10:08
SPEAKER_01: And then Mercy Hearst, Mercy Hearst took it to him pretty good.
• 10:12
SPEAKER_01: Um, it was a good game, but I don't think Seton Hill ever was really ever.
• 10:20
SPEAKER_01: I guess what I'm looking for, I don't think Mercyhurst was in trouble losing that game at any part in the game.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_01: I felt that Seton Hill was trying to perhaps push a little bit.
• 10:33
SPEAKER_01: You know, they were down a few goals quickly.
• 10:36
SPEAKER_01: Um, they had some time, they had a couple of fast break opportunities where maybe they took bad shots, you know, hot, you know, not high percentage shots instead of maybe getting that one more pass.
• 10:48
SPEAKER_01: And and I I think that they they gave away possessions and uh Seton Hill didn't play like I thought they would have played in that game.
• 10:58
SPEAKER_01: And I thought they would have been ranked one in in the north, but that that loss dropped them to the four spot.
• 11:06
  SPEAKER_01: I think.
• 11:06
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I agree with you.
• 11:08
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think um Mercy Hurst had control of the game, it appeared to me the whole time.
• 11:13
SPEAKER_00: Now, I'll admit I should have said this before we started this.
• 11:16
SPEAKER_00: Just remember, everyone that's listening, Danny and I are not professionals.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_00: We did not sleep in a holiday in express last night, but we we are are passionate fans, so we're just giving you our opinion.
• 11:30
SPEAKER_00: But I would agree with you that Mercyhurst seemed to have control of that game.
• 11:33
SPEAKER_00: And you're right, though, because the first the bracket that came out before this had Seton Hill seeded number one.
• 11:40
SPEAKER_00: And I think if they had won the game, they probably would have stayed there.
• 11:43
SPEAKER_00: And I think Lemoyne was number three back then.
• 11:46
  SPEAKER_00: That's correct.
• 11:47
SPEAKER_00: So it that their loss, Mercyhurst's win, you know, shook it up so that now Le Moyne goes up to the top seed.
• 11:57
SPEAKER_00: And as we know, you know, Mercy and Mercyhurst played a close game earlier in the season.
• 12:04
SPEAKER_00: Um I think since Mercyhurst beat Seton Hill in the championship, now you've got um that product brought Mercy and Mercy Hurst at two and three.
• 12:14
  SPEAKER_01: Uh there you go.
• 12:16
  SPEAKER_01: I mean, in a nutshell, I think that's exactly what happened.
• 12:19
SPEAKER_01: Um, Mercyhurst looks really good, you know.
• 12:22
SPEAKER_01: I I've liked them all year, all year.
• 12:24
SPEAKER_01: I've watched them, I must have watched seven or eight of their games this year.
• 12:29
SPEAKER_01: And even the Mercy game I watched where they lost.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, Mercy, we mercy's got a really, really good faceoff talked about.
• 12:40
SPEAKER_01: And um that's gonna be quite the game because they're matched up against each other up there in the north.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_01: So you have Lemoyne at the top seed, you have Mercy at two, Mercyhurst at three.
• 12:55
SPEAKER_01: So those two will play each other, Mercy and Mercyhurst.
• 12:59
SPEAKER_01: The playing game kind of for that last seed is Seton Hill versus St.
• 13:04
  SPEAKER_01: Anslum.
• 13:05
  SPEAKER_01: St.
• 13:05
SPEAKER_01: Anslem had a great season.
• 13:08
SPEAKER_01: Um, their only loss was the conference uh championship loss.
• 13:13
SPEAKER_01: Um, they got that, they got in on that five seed.
• 13:16
  SPEAKER_01: They've had a great season.
• 13:18
SPEAKER_01: I think they're gonna meet a Seton Hill team that's gonna be a little annoyed about their seeding, perhaps, and maybe maybe coming off another stinging loss from Mercy Hearst.
• 13:31
SPEAKER_01: That might put a little fuel.
• 13:34
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 13:34
SPEAKER_00: So here's what I would say about that game.
• 13:36
SPEAKER_00: So a couple things I would say.
• 13:38
SPEAKER_00: I like I think I talked about on our last podcast.
• 13:40
  SPEAKER_00: I said I felt St.
• 13:42
SPEAKER_00: Anselms needed to play a close game against Lemoyne to stay in as as the fifth seed and not someone come up.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_00: And and I think even though the score nine to four, it seems like oh, you know, Lemoyne had that game all the time, it wasn't a close game.
• 14:00
SPEAKER_00: It actually was a a fairly close game.
• 14:04
  SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think St.
• 14:05
SPEAKER_00: Anselm's uh played well against him.
• 14:09
SPEAKER_00: Obviously, you look at CJ Hart.
• 14:11
SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's the first thing I wrote down.
• 14:12
SPEAKER_00: I mean, if if CJ Hart wasn't in the goal, and oh, by the way, he was the uh conference goalkeeper of the year for NE10, and now you can kind of see why.
• 14:22
SPEAKER_00: I mean, if he wasn't there, the goal, the score would have been a lot different.
• 14:26
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely.
• 14:27
SPEAKER_01: CJ's a big part of that team, he's a he's a beast, and um that defense is pretty good though, too, for St.
• 14:34
  SPEAKER_01: Anselms.
• 14:35
SPEAKER_01: They're pretty, you know what, they're a solid squad, right?
• 14:37
SPEAKER_00: And so then you look on Seton Hill side.
• 14:40
SPEAKER_00: Guess who's who Seton Hill's uh goalie, Kevin Mo was goalkeeper of the year for his conference, you know.
• 14:47
  SPEAKER_00: So I think that's the matchup.
• 14:50
SPEAKER_00: I think that's gonna that's a a key matchup of this of this this game, Seton Hill, uh St.
• 14:55
  SPEAKER_00: Anselm's.
• 14:56
SPEAKER_01: But if you look at Seton Hill like as a team, they're they're in the top five and top ten in almost every category in the country, scoring points, assists per game, you know, scoring defense.
• 15:11
  SPEAKER_01: They're there's they're a solid squad, Seton Hill.
• 15:14
  SPEAKER_01: I I think I think St.
• 15:16
  SPEAKER_01: Anselm's gonna have a tough afternoon.
• 15:17
SPEAKER_01: I think Seton Hill advances.
• 15:19
  SPEAKER_00: I I would I would agree with you.
• 15:21
SPEAKER_00: Uh I you know, I'm I'm hoping for a really good game there, obviously.
• 15:25
SPEAKER_00: Um growing up in the New England area, I would love to see St.
• 15:30
SPEAKER_00: A's uh do really well.
• 15:32
SPEAKER_00: Um, but I agree with you.
• 15:33
SPEAKER_00: I think Seton Hill takes out.
• 15:34
SPEAKER_00: What do you think about Mercy and Mercyhurst?
• 15:36
SPEAKER_00: Do you have any uh projections there?
• 15:39
SPEAKER_01: Personally, I think in that first that first round in the North, I think that's the game to watch.
• 15:45
SPEAKER_01: I think, you know, again, uh Mercyhurst.
• 15:49
  SPEAKER_01: Um that's another team.
• 15:51
SPEAKER_01: Team statistically, they're at the top of the statistic charts in almost every category.
• 15:56
SPEAKER_01: Mercy Hearst, they put up a lot of points, they play defense.
• 16:00
SPEAKER_01: They have an LSM, this kid Bates.
• 16:02
  SPEAKER_01: He's a he's a he's a beast out there.
• 16:05
  SPEAKER_01: He plays hard.
• 16:06
SPEAKER_01: They, you know, mercy at the two spot, they had a good season, Mercy.
• 16:12
SPEAKER_01: You know, they have a good squad.
• 16:13
SPEAKER_01: I think they're a little smaller than Mercy Hurst.
• 16:17
SPEAKER_01: You know, Mercy Hearst seems to be a bigger team to me when you see them on TV.
• 16:22
SPEAKER_01: But Mercy beat him last time, right?
• 16:25
SPEAKER_00: So although I I look back at the stats of that game, to me, what stood out and the difference in that game that they played in the regular season was the saves.
• 16:35
SPEAKER_00: So Mercy had 12 saves, Mercy Hearst had six.
• 16:39
SPEAKER_00: I think that was the difference in that game.
• 16:41
SPEAKER_00: If if if Mercy Hearst can improve um you know that statistic and be closer to him, I think Mercy Hearst can win this game.
• 16:50
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know what?
• 16:52
SPEAKER_01: I I think I think Mercy Hearst comes up with the win this time.
• 16:56
  SPEAKER_01: I think I think they're I just think they're a little bit better than Mercy.
• 17:01
SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying I'm not trying to take anything away from the Mavericks of Mercy because they're a good squad.
• 17:06
SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you right now, if Mercy can control faceoffs, they have a good shot.
• 17:16
  SPEAKER_00: Good point.
• 17:16
  SPEAKER_00: Very good point.
• 17:18
SPEAKER_00: You know, and they've got the man to do it.
• 17:20
SPEAKER_01: They do, they do, they do.
• 17:22
SPEAKER_01: And that's I think that's gonna be key in Mercy, in Mercy winning against Mercy Hurst, because Mercy Hearst is one of those teams that doesn't make a lot of mistakes.
• 17:36
SPEAKER_01: Um, they move the ball quickly, the defense, they they ride, they do all the things necessary to be a championship team, and they do it well, they're well coached.
• 17:47
SPEAKER_01: Mercy, if they like I said, I think if they can control the face-off and steal possessions away from Mercyhurst, they got a shot.
• 17:59
SPEAKER_00: Okay, that then uh just to wrap it up.
• 18:02
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I you know uh Lemoyne.
• 18:05
SPEAKER_00: So if you say if we what do you think about the Le Moine uh matchup against either Seton Hill?
• 18:10
SPEAKER_00: If we look at Seton Hill, if we think Seton Hill is gonna go in there.
• 18:13
SPEAKER_00: Um any thoughts on that before we move to the South?
• 18:17
SPEAKER_01: I honestly think that Le Moyne hasn't played a team like Seton Hill this year.
• 18:21
SPEAKER_01: A Delphi is not really on that level, I think, this year.
• 18:26
SPEAKER_01: Um Pace, some of the other teams in in Le Moyne's conference is not really on Seton Hill's level, although they're a great team as well.
• 18:37
SPEAKER_01: Just maybe Seton Hill, Seton Hill's gonna give Le Moine a game, I think.
• 18:44
  SPEAKER_00: I agree, I agree.
• 18:46
  SPEAKER_00: They will.
• 18:47
SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be a great if if that's the matchup that happens, you know, then I think it's gonna be uh a great game.
• 18:55
  SPEAKER_00: Great game to watch.
• 18:56
SPEAKER_01: I I think I think that Seton Hill is a really you know how I felt about Seton Hill all year, too.
• 19:03
  SPEAKER_00: I do, I do.
• 19:05
SPEAKER_01: You know, they just they're good, man.
• 19:07
SPEAKER_01: They they're I I was kind of surprised that Mercy Hearst beat them so badly, to be honest with you.
• 19:13
SPEAKER_01: But then again, I wasn't surprised because Mercy Hearst has been one of my favorite teams all year in in Division II.
• 19:20
SPEAKER_01: They just they just meet all my criteria.
• 19:24
SPEAKER_01: The eye candy, the stats, the size, the speed.
• 19:27
SPEAKER_01: They meet all my criteria.
• 19:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I I think uh I think that um like like we talked about last week.
• 19:38
SPEAKER_00: Um those four teams, Lemoyne, Mercy, Mercy Hurst, and Seton Hill, nothing against St.
• 19:46
  SPEAKER_00: A's, nothing against them.
• 19:47
SPEAKER_00: They've played a great year, uh, had a great season, and they're a really, really good team.
• 19:52
SPEAKER_00: And they've got young players, and they're gonna be coming back every year and keep improving.
• 19:56
SPEAKER_00: But I I think um we're splitting hairs amongst those four teams.
• 20:02
SPEAKER_01: You know, I you know, I I I think Mercy Hurst goes all the way this year.
• 20:08
  SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
• 20:10
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 20:10
  SPEAKER_00: Well take the North.
• 20:12
SPEAKER_01: And I'm saying it now.
• 20:14
SPEAKER_01: I you know, I I just I just don't think Lemoyne is really, and they're really good too.
• 20:21
SPEAKER_01: They're a really good squad and they play the game well, not many holes in Le Moines game, but I don't know if they've been truly, truly battle tested against some of these teams that play hard and fast.
• 20:33
SPEAKER_01: And and Mercyhurst is one of those teams, and Seton Hill is one of those teams, and Mercy is one of those teams.
• 20:42
SPEAKER_01: So I like that bracket.
• 20:45
  SPEAKER_01: That's a good bracket, man.
• 20:46
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 20:47
SPEAKER_00: Well, and I I'll tell you this it doesn't help either you or me on this podcast to to waffle around and be wishy-washy.
• 20:56
SPEAKER_00: So I appreciate you coming out and saying mercy hearst, which is even funnier, is that was my pick, too.
• 21:03
  SPEAKER_01: Really?
• 21:03
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 21:03
SPEAKER_00: And now I haven't watched as many of those games, but if look in the last few weeks, um I I would put my money if I was a betting man, and I I don't bet often.
• 21:15
SPEAKER_00: So if I was a betting man, though, I'd I'd put the money on Mercy Hearst and to to win the North.
• 21:21
SPEAKER_01: And because of COVID, you know, I know that Mercy Hearst really didn't travel that much this year.
• 21:26
SPEAKER_01: Usually they go down south, they'll play some of the bigger teams down south, and some of the ranked teams, too.
• 21:33
SPEAKER_01: So their out of conference schedule usually, you know, outside of this year with the COVID and everything.
• 21:40
SPEAKER_01: But even their out of conference schedule was pretty tough.
• 21:44
SPEAKER_01: That's you know, Mercy Hearst is they're legit.
• 21:47
  SPEAKER_01: They're the real okay.
• 21:49
SPEAKER_00: Let's move on to the south.
• 21:50
  SPEAKER_00: Let's keep this moving.
• 21:51
SPEAKER_00: We'll move down the south region.
• 21:53
SPEAKER_00: Um, any uh surprises there in how the bracket came out?
• 21:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was surprised actually.
• 22:00
  SPEAKER_01: That Tampa got in.
• 22:02
SPEAKER_01: I didn't think they were gonna get in.
• 22:04
SPEAKER_01: But good for the Spartans.
• 22:05
  SPEAKER_01: Good for them.
• 22:06
SPEAKER_01: You know, um, they've been ranked two most of the year.
• 22:11
SPEAKER_01: Then they went to three.
• 22:12
SPEAKER_01: I think they sit at four today, right?
• 22:15
  SPEAKER_01: Four nationally.
• 22:16
SPEAKER_00: I you could be wrong.
• 22:17
SPEAKER_00: I have not checked uh recently.
• 22:19
SPEAKER_00: I was more I just got really bore focused on this bracket here.
• 22:23
SPEAKER_00: So I wasn't watching the Usilla poll.
• 22:26
SPEAKER_01: I think they sit at four in the country now, nationally in the rankings.
• 22:30
SPEAKER_01: So again, uh we talked about Tampa numerous times in the last podcast.
• 22:35
SPEAKER_01: Um, I just I didn't feel that their body of work was just enough to get them in, but the the uh committee did, the committee did, and and now they're in at as the last seed, right?
• 22:47
SPEAKER_00: And so I this is what I would say to that.
• 22:49
SPEAKER_00: I felt if if they beat Lynn, they would be in because they were B 9 and O.
• 22:55
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 22:55
SPEAKER_00: They're on and and you know their record.
• 22:59
SPEAKER_00: Um I think um COVID plays a part in this, and they've got to recognize that they couldn't play out of conference, and it makes a little bit tough.
• 23:09
SPEAKER_00: So that's definitely why they're the fifth seed, I think.
• 23:11
SPEAKER_00: What surprised me was U Indy jumping up to third when they were at like six last time, and I think that's due to the committee looking at things and saying, okay, they won their tournament championship, and they're you know 10 and 1.
• 23:27
SPEAKER_00: So good record, and they won the tournament championship, bumped them up, took Belmont Abbey, who was fourth, out and dropped uh Mount Belmont Abbey, who won their conference championship, but has also four losses.
• 23:42
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_00: U UMO Mount Olive wins out on that one based on record and them splitting uh games.
• 23:49
SPEAKER_01: And and to be honest with you, I watched that U Indy Lindenwood game, and that was a good game.
• 23:54
SPEAKER_01: And if you look at the stats, you indie shouldn't have won that game.
• 23:59
SPEAKER_01: Lindenwood outshot him, outground balled him, outcleared him.
• 24:03
SPEAKER_01: He won in every single category except the main one.
• 24:06
SPEAKER_01: Biscuits in the basket at the end of the game, and you know, Undy wound up with the conference win.
• 24:13
SPEAKER_01: That that game could have gone either way, you know.
• 24:16
  SPEAKER_00: Totally agree.
• 24:17
SPEAKER_01: And if U Indy loses, what happens then?
• 24:20
SPEAKER_01: You know, does Lindenwood get in?
• 24:23
SPEAKER_01: You know, that was a weird one.
• 24:25
SPEAKER_01: So not so sure about the U Indie pick.
• 24:30
SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I think I said last time I I figured if Undy won it, they'd be in.
• 24:35
  SPEAKER_00: I think you're right.
• 24:35
SPEAKER_00: If Lindenwood would have won it, maybe it would have stayed just the way it was before, and it would have been Belmont Abbey S4, Tampa S five.
• 24:46
SPEAKER_01: You know, I I I feel that Mount Olive is a better team than U Indy.
• 24:50
SPEAKER_01: You know, the Mount Olive's got one of the best defenses in the country.
• 24:54
  SPEAKER_01: A couple All-Americans over there.
• 24:56
SPEAKER_01: I thought Mount Olive would get the fourth, you know, and I thought the winner of that Lyndon Wood U Indie game would get, you know, that would be playing that play-in game or something.
• 25:07
SPEAKER_00: So they would have been fourth and Mount Olive would have stayed at three, yeah.
• 25:11
SPEAKER_00: So so I think um I think that's really interesting and a good segue into the matchup between Mount Olive and Tampa because I I had in my notes.
• 25:19
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I just think that Mount Olive is stacked defensively.
• 25:25
  SPEAKER_01: They're gonna beat Tampa.
• 25:27
  SPEAKER_01: They're gonna beat Tampa.
• 25:29
SPEAKER_01: Tampa's gonna have a tough time against Mount Olive.
• 25:32
SPEAKER_01: Mount Olive's a very good defensive team, and and they're not the greatest offensive team, but they're a great defensive team.
• 25:43
SPEAKER_01: And I'll tell you right now, Tampa has not played a team like Mount Olive.
• 25:47
SPEAKER_01: And now, would it surprise me if Tampa keeps it close?
• 25:51
SPEAKER_01: No, but I think Mount Olive comes on top.
• 25:55
SPEAKER_01: I think they're more battle-tested, they've had harder games on their schedule, and and and and there they are.
• 26:03
SPEAKER_01: I mean, they deserve to be in the tournament.
• 26:06
SPEAKER_01: I thought they were gonna get the three seed, actually.
• 26:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was surprised that they dropped down.
• 26:13
SPEAKER_00: And I and I tend to agree with you that I think Mount Oliver will win that game.
• 26:16
SPEAKER_00: Um, why don't we switch over but we before we talk about Lenore Ryan, let's switch down to the the two and three seed wingate against U Indy.
• 26:25
SPEAKER_00: What do you think there?
• 26:27
SPEAKER_01: You wingate Undy, I don't see them having a chance.
• 26:34
SPEAKER_00: I think um, and now you know they played each other last year.
• 26:40
  SPEAKER_00: Wingate won that 13-7.
• 26:43
  SPEAKER_00: Different season, different team.
• 26:44
SPEAKER_00: I actually think Wingate's team this year is much better than it was last year.
• 26:51
SPEAKER_01: Wingate's one of the top four teams in the country.
• 26:55
SPEAKER_01: They're they're the top two teams out of the south.
• 26:57
SPEAKER_01: There's Lenore, Ryan, and Wingate.
• 26:59
SPEAKER_01: Everybody else is behind them.
• 27:01
SPEAKER_00: I think they have uh greater depth and greater balance between offense and defense than you, Indy.
• 27:08
SPEAKER_00: And actually, a lot of teams, a lot of teams in D2.
• 27:12
SPEAKER_01: If you look at the team statistics, Wingate's another one of those teams, along with Seton Hill and Mercyhurst and LR, that are at the top of the league in just about every category statistically, you know, uh points, points per game, assists per game, defense.
• 27:29
SPEAKER_01: UNDA never faced a defense like Wingate's defense.
• 27:34
  SPEAKER_01: Wingate's defense is smothering.
• 27:36
SPEAKER_01: You know, you might have two possible all-Americans on that defense.
• 27:43
  SPEAKER_00: They they are smothering.
• 27:44
SPEAKER_00: They've not only their their uh close uh defense, but uh Reese Orman has their long stick middle.
• 27:53
SPEAKER_00: Um actually they got two great LSMs, but uh uh Reese is just he he seems to gobble up everything.
• 28:01
SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about um Lenore Ryan Mount Olive, if that's the matchup.
• 28:06
SPEAKER_00: What do you what do you think there?
• 28:09
SPEAKER_01: I think you know Lenore Ryan's one of the best teams in the country.
• 28:12
SPEAKER_01: I think you know, Mount Olive would have to play the game of their life, you know, really again.
• 28:19
SPEAKER_01: Mount Olive's got a good defense now.
• 28:22
SPEAKER_01: So if they can hold, you know, there's three of them up there.
• 28:25
SPEAKER_01: You got Eccleson, you got Erickson, you got Kannada, you got three kids on Lenore Ryan who can who can light it up.
• 28:34
SPEAKER_01: And if the defense of um Mount Olive can keep them guys at bay, and it's gonna be a tough thing to do.
• 28:43
SPEAKER_01: If they if they can keep them at bay, maybe Mount Olive stays in it for a while, but I think Lenore Ryan's just too strong of a team.
• 28:51
SPEAKER_00: And I I I see Lenore Ryan wing gate matchup third game of the season, third game of the year of the season for those two.
• 28:59
SPEAKER_00: It's the the rubber match.
• 29:01
SPEAKER_01: And and not only it's a rubber match, it's a rubber match that winner goes to the national championship.
• 29:08
SPEAKER_00: All the all the stakes are are in there.
• 29:11
SPEAKER_01: So if you have a Wingate Lenore Ryan, you're having a two top five teams in the country facing each other in the tournament.
• 29:21
SPEAKER_01: That's going to be one of the better games.
• 29:22
SPEAKER_01: That's probably going to be the game of the entire NCAA tournament because that's a rubber match between these two teams.
• 29:32
SPEAKER_01: And and again, both of them are so evenly matched.
• 29:37
SPEAKER_01: They're just so evenly matched.
• 29:39
SPEAKER_01: Um, wingate didn't do too great at face-off last game.
• 29:45
SPEAKER_01: They they kind of struggled at the face-off, and um, they were still able to put 14 points on the board with limited possessions because wingate caused a lot of turnovers.
• 29:59
SPEAKER_01: Um, they held uh the all-American Erickson um to only three goals.
• 30:04
SPEAKER_01: Who, you know, and that kid's like good for five six goals a game.
• 30:08
SPEAKER_01: So to hold somebody like that to three goals, that that's a big thing right there for Wingate.
• 30:14
SPEAKER_01: So if Wingate goes, they only won 20% of the face-offs in that game against against Lenore Ryan in the SAC Championship, and they still only lost by five.
• 30:26
SPEAKER_01: So if Wingate wins, let's say they go 40, 60-40 Lenore Ryan.
• 30:33
  SPEAKER_01: If Wingate can eliminate 15 to 16 possessions, that's a toss-up.
• 30:42
SPEAKER_01: So that game, I think, comes down to faceoff.
• 30:46
  SPEAKER_00: I I agree.
• 30:47
SPEAKER_00: I think if if wingate can turn that around um and and get it close, you know, I you know, 50-50, 45-55, somewhere around there.
• 30:57
SPEAKER_00: I I think I think they can win it.
• 31:02
SPEAKER_01: Like, for example, like in the last game between those two in the SAC championship, if you take like again, you know, with only winning 20% of the of the face-off matchups and and still being able to put 14 goals up on the on that team.
• 31:19
SPEAKER_01: I'm saying if you take 15 possessions away from that team, you you start going like this, you know, Lenore goes like this, and Wingate goes up.
• 31:29
SPEAKER_01: So I think personally, personally, Mercyhurst, Wingate, Lenore Ron should be one, you know, one, two, and three in the country.
• 31:42
  SPEAKER_01: Kind of flip them.
• 31:44
SPEAKER_01: I don't even think Lemoyne is number one.
• 31:46
  SPEAKER_01: I really don't.
• 31:47
SPEAKER_01: And even though they're undefeated, and yeah, but they played pace okay.
• 31:51
SPEAKER_01: They played, you know, Adelphi, okay.
• 31:56
SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, those weren't the one of the some of the better teams this year.
• 32:00
SPEAKER_01: So I think Le Moyne is gonna be in a game against Seton Hill.
• 32:05
SPEAKER_01: I think Seton Hill is gonna give them a game.
• 32:08
SPEAKER_01: I think Mercy Hurst is gonna beat Mercy this time.
• 32:11
  SPEAKER_01: I just that's just my opinion.
• 32:13
  SPEAKER_01: I think they're on a mission, you know, Scobie's army.
• 32:17
SPEAKER_01: They they got a lot to be fired up about, and they're playing great ball.
• 32:22
SPEAKER_01: So I think it's gonna be Mercy Hurst and Lemoyne in the north.
• 32:26
SPEAKER_01: Winner goes to the national championship, and out of the south, I think it's gonna be Wingate and Lenore Rhine, and the winner of that goes to the national championship.
• 32:37
  SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited.
• 32:39
SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be a great tournament, and I'm looking forward to uh this weekend.
• 32:45
  SPEAKER_00: I cannot wait.
• 32:47
SPEAKER_00: It's going to be a lot of fun to watch.
• 32:49
SPEAKER_00: Um, I wish uh good luck to all the teams as they as they venture forward, and uh and I think it's just gonna be a lot of fun.
• 32:58
SPEAKER_00: So uh with that, I think it's a wrap for today, uh Danny.
• 33:04
SPEAKER_00: So thanks again for uh spending this time with me.
• 33:07
SPEAKER_00: Once again, we we uh we uh filled much more than 30 minutes, I think, but I think we're we're we're getting close.
• 33:15
SPEAKER_01: The producers are gonna start, you know, they're gonna start hating us.
• 33:18
SPEAKER_01: We're going over time too much.
• 33:20
SPEAKER_00: I know I need someone to cut us off, but uh I'm enjoying talking to you too much.
• 33:25
  SPEAKER_00: So all right.
• 33:26
SPEAKER_00: So why don't you why don't we just uh move on out?
• 33:29
SPEAKER_00: Why don't you send us off with some of that music and and uh thanks again for tonight?
• 33:36
SPEAKER_01: We'll see you next time on the green.
