- 0:52Speaker 1: your week. I am all ears. Send them to me

- 1:05Speaker 1: follow me on Instagram, then you know this week was
- 1:09Speaker 1: a week for me. Understatement and that is because you
- 1:14Speaker 1: want to be with someone else in quarantine until that's
- 1:18Speaker 1: someone or something else is a mouse yep, unwelcome guest
- 1:23Speaker 1: in my apartment this week a mouse popped out. I
- 1:27Speaker 1: was sitting on my couch the other night, had just
- 1:30Speaker 1: finished dinner, and all of the sudden, a mouse just
- 1:33Speaker 1: saunters out into the middle of my kitchen, and I
- 1:37Speaker 1: was livid. I was so frustrated. It was like as
- 1:41Speaker 1: if the mouse started to cripple me. So the first
- 1:45Speaker 1: time I saw the mouse was Saturday night, and then
- 1:49Speaker 1: he didn't pop back in again until Wednesday to say hello.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And of course, when he decides to do that again,
- 1:55Speaker 1: I am in the middle of a hurdle interview and
- 1:58Speaker 1: I freak out in the audio. Oh man, for your
- 2:01Speaker 1: sampling pleasure, please take a listen. Ah my god, this
- 2:09Speaker 1: is the worst. Oh my god. I just wanted to
- 2:12Speaker 1: go that's really funny. Oh my god, I'm so gota
- 2:18Speaker 1: or something over there. I like, I kind of think
- 2:21Speaker 1: I want to something in the Okay, what should I
- 2:25Speaker 1: a book? You have a big book? Yeah, I have
- 2:27Speaker 1: to have a hardcover book and just the next time
- 2:30Speaker 1: it comes out, just chuck it over there, get the
- 2:33Speaker 1: fuck away. So now you get what we're dealing with. Anyway,
- 2:37Speaker 1: I call my dad after I'm done with this podcast
- 2:40Speaker 1: interview and he is like, you know that you're bigger
- 2:43Speaker 1: than the mouse, right. That doesn't make it easier not
- 2:46Speaker 1: to feel like it is just all up in my space.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The mouse quickly became this thing that I could freak
- 2:54Speaker 1: out over, this thing that I could dedicate my energy to,
- 2:57Speaker 1: this thing that I could be mad at. And I
- 2:59Speaker 1: came to realize, I mean, think about how many things
- 3:02Speaker 1: there are in life, how many times that there are
- 3:05Speaker 1: where we cannot control this thing that we spend so
- 3:07Speaker 1: much time obsessing over. Before I went to bed last night,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I was scared to literally look at the ground of
- 3:14Speaker 1: my apartment because I thought that it would just be
- 3:17Speaker 1: crawling with mice. I knew, let's be real, that wasn't
- 3:22Speaker 1: gonna happen. I woke up this morning, I walked into
- 3:27Speaker 1: the kitchen. I didn't see him, got in there, and
- 3:29Speaker 1: I thought, to myself, it's really annoyed, exhale, I just
- 3:35Speaker 1: let out there. I made some tea, and I sat
- 3:37Speaker 1: on the couch and I closed my eyes and I
- 3:39Speaker 1: took five deep breaths, and I realized in this moment
- 3:44Speaker 1: that I had to let go of this thing that
- 3:46Speaker 1: I couldn't control, Like I couldn't sit here in my
- 3:49Speaker 1: home just being constantly paranoid, constantly angry, that angry feeling,
- 3:54Speaker 1: that stressed out feeling. It wasn't gonna do me any good.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Silver Lining here that I caught the mouse, so that
- 4:01Speaker 1: helps a little bit. But again, I'm just trying to
- 4:03Speaker 1: bring forth here this idea that they are gonna be
- 4:06Speaker 1: things that we have no control over. In particular, I
- 4:10Speaker 1: think the thing that we can all agree on is
- 4:13Speaker 1: what's going on with coronavirus. Sometimes the best thing that
- 4:18Speaker 1: we can do in these situations are just let go.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And so for this week's prompt, I'm asking you, what's
- 4:25Speaker 1: your mouse? What do you need to let go of?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Be honest with yourself. This is a big opportunity. Highlights
- 4:34Speaker 1: of the week. I clicked on over in Have a
- 4:37Speaker 1: Podcasts and I was looking for some new shows to
- 4:40Speaker 1: get into, and I am a sucker for Tom Hanks,
- 4:43Speaker 1: so I clicked on the NPR podcast Wait Wait, Don't
- 4:47Speaker 1: Tell Me, because they had an episode with him. And basically,
- 4:50Speaker 1: this show is a weekly current events quiz, so they
- 4:55Speaker 1: talk about a bunch of different news what's going on,
- 4:58Speaker 1: and they offer up different and opportunities for the audience
- 5:02Speaker 1: to kind of guess what the answers are. And I
- 5:03Speaker 1: actually really really loved it and it was funny. One
- 5:07Speaker 1: of the segments on the Tom Hanks episode was actually
- 5:10Speaker 1: talking about how people in major cities are seeing an
- 5:13Speaker 1: incidence of mice in their apartments. Crazy because the mice
- 5:19Speaker 1: don't have the normal restaurant stock of foods that they'd
- 5:21Speaker 1: be eating on the streets, and so they're coming in
- 5:24Speaker 1: and hunting for it. Anyway, they talked to Tom Hanks
- 5:26Speaker 1: and they asked him to describe what his kitchen looked like,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and it was just hilarious that I highly highly recommend
- 5:32Speaker 1: NVR podcast. Wait wait, don't tell me. Another favorite of
- 5:37Speaker 1: mine Whalebone Magazine. They are releasing a pop up newsletter
- 5:42Speaker 1: I love that phrasing here called Afternoon Delight, And basically
- 5:46Speaker 1: what they say is that it's here for a short while,
- 5:48Speaker 1: at least the next thirty days or however long it
- 5:51Speaker 1: can be doing some good and it's there to help
- 5:54Speaker 1: their followers, help Whalebone readers keep connected through social distancing,
- 5:59Speaker 1: and keep them smiling. In every newsletter which comes out
- 6:02Speaker 1: toward the tail end of the workday, they offer up
- 6:05Speaker 1: something to listen to, something to cook, and something to
- 6:08Speaker 1: smile about. And it's just got me smiling, so I'm
- 6:10Speaker 1: sharing it with you. Also, I cannot stop listening to
- 6:15Speaker 1: the soundtrack from last Saturday's One World together at home.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'm in particularly obsessed with the cover of What a
- 6:22Speaker 1: Wonderful World with Camillo Cabello and Shawn Mendes. And then,
- 6:26Speaker 1: last but not LEAs, I'm going to recommend a book
- 6:28Speaker 1: to you this week, one that I keep going back to,
- 6:31Speaker 1: and that is the Power of Habit by Charles Duhig.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I'm probably saying that wrong, maybe it's two Hig, but
- 6:38Speaker 1: in the book, he basically says that the key to
- 6:41Speaker 1: any of the habits that we all want to upkeep,
- 6:43Speaker 1: whether that's regular exercise or being more productive or being
- 6:47Speaker 1: quote unquote successful, is understanding how those habits work. I'm
- 6:52Speaker 1: going to close this out with what he says at
- 6:54Speaker 1: the end of the book. He says, sometimes change takes
- 6:57Speaker 1: a long time, sometimes it requiresyers, repeated experiments and failures.
- 7:02Speaker 1: But once you understand how a habit operates, once you
- 7:06Speaker 1: diagnose the queue, the routine, and the ward, you gain
- 7:11Speaker 1: power over it. And that's it for this week at
- 7:15Speaker 1: emilay Body at Hurdle Podcast, another Hurdle Conquered. Catch you
- 7:20Speaker 1: guys next time.
