- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the Best of Stugatz & Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: So we start today with a surprise small fact.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Of the day.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I have no idea what this is. Ben Verlander going
- 0:26Speaker 1: to join us coming up. In about 15 minutes, we'll
- 0:29Speaker 1: talk some baseball with him. But Taylor tells me, Mikey,
- 0:33Speaker 1: he has a surprise small fact of the day. I
- 0:37Speaker 1: have no idea. Are you aware of what it is
- 0:39Speaker 1: he's about to unleash on us here at Small, though?
- 0:42Speaker 3: I have tried to figure out what this could be,
- 0:45Speaker 3: and he is giving absolutely nothing.
- 0:48Speaker 4: He won't tell me what sport, if it is a
- 0:52Speaker 4: sport that it has to do with. He will tell
- 0:54Speaker 4: me absolutely nothing about this.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Yes. To the point where this could actually be anything.
- 1:00Speaker 4: He could be telling me about a black hole supernova
- 1:03Speaker 4: type thing, and I still don't know.
- 1:05Speaker 1: You were very Izzy-like. He announced that he had a
- 1:08Speaker 1: surprise small fact of the day. You did ask a
- 1:11Speaker 1: ton of follow-up questions, and he gave us nothing. Yes.
- 1:15Speaker 1: He gave us absolutely– it's a big secret. He will
- 1:18Speaker 1: not reveal a single thing to us, even though it's
- 1:21Speaker 1: a very short fact.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 1:23Speaker 4: This is a short fact that all he did was say,
- 1:26Speaker 4: I have a short fact for you guys that you're
- 1:30Speaker 4: not going to believe. But at this point, I've asked
- 1:33Speaker 4: so many questions and gotten so little response that this
- 1:37Speaker 4: can't live up to anything.
- 1:38Speaker 1: No. He also said he has a short game for
- 1:41Speaker 1: us right after the short fact of the day. I mean,
- 1:44Speaker 1: everything's short. All right, Taylor. Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:49Speaker 1: You have piqued our curiosity. What is your surprise small
- 1:53Speaker 1: fact of the day?
- 1:54Speaker 5: So my fact that'll surprise you, because I'm not sure
- 1:57Speaker 5: this is on anybody's radar. I'm not sure anybody's aware
- 2:00Speaker 5: of it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:01Speaker 5: The NHL starts tonight.
- 2:05Speaker 3: What? We're back on the ice.
- 2:10Speaker 5: This is a situation where the NHL has to know
- 2:13Speaker 5: its place in the sports calendar.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:15Speaker 5: We got MLB postseason starting tonight. We're in the heart
- 2:19Speaker 5: of the college football season, the heart of the NFL season.
- 2:23Speaker 5: We don't need NHL at this point.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Mikey, you seem blown away by that small fact of
- 2:30Speaker 1: the day, as was I, by the way. I had
- 2:32Speaker 1: no idea the Florida Panthers season started tonight. I mean,
- 2:36Speaker 1: hockey starts. Hockey is back, Mikey. I belong to.
- 2:43Speaker 3: All of the betting sites. And usually you get, Hey,
- 2:46Speaker 3: the season started today.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Here's a prop profit boost token for you.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I've gotten nothing.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I had zero idea that we were back on the
- 2:59Speaker 4: ice today.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I gotta be honest. If a Taylor didn't provide us
- 3:02Speaker 1: with the surprise, small fat to the day, a month
- 3:04Speaker 1: could have gone by. I still wouldn't have known that
- 3:07Speaker 1: hockey had started. How about that? Huh?
- 3:10Speaker 3: So who you guys got lifting the cup?
- 3:11Speaker 1: Who lifted the cup last year? Who did?
- 3:15Speaker 3: The Hurricanes.
- 3:17Speaker 1: That's right. Congratulations to Rob Brindamore. How about that? Who
- 3:23Speaker 1: hoisted this year? It's not going to be Edmonton. It's
- 3:25Speaker 1: never Edmonton. It was Edmonton back in the 80s after
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Islanders won. It hasn't been Edmonton since. So who's
- 3:32Speaker 1: going to hoist the cup before we get to some
- 3:34Speaker 1: baseball here?
- 3:35Speaker 5: Ricardo is over my shoulder right now saying the florida
- 3:38Speaker 5: panthers he keeps doing the i like their sound effect he's.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Like yeah they got the wingmen they got brady and
- 3:43Speaker 1: matthew kachuk it's a great podcast i love those guys
- 3:47Speaker 1: uh yeah.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Mikey listen nobody follows hockey like i do nobody follows
- 3:53Speaker 4: the pucks like i do yes i mean i knew
- 3:56Speaker 4: the hurricanes won last year yes so i'm telling you
- 3:58Speaker 4: now right The Avalanche's Cup to lose.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Put it on the poll, Taylor. Did you know the
- 4:03Speaker 1: NHL season starts tonight?
- 4:08Speaker 4: There's going to be 12 hockey hardos that are going
- 4:10Speaker 4: to be so mad that that's even on the poll.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Sorry, guys. Follow a better sport.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Right, like hardcore hockey fans who are like, why are
- 4:22Speaker 1: you guys doing this? Why are you talking like this
- 4:24Speaker 1: about my sport? How do you not know when you
- 4:26Speaker 1: do this for a living, host a national show– One
- 4:29Speaker 1: of the four majors starts tonight.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Who is worse? Which hard-o? Soccer hard-o or hockey hard-o?
- 4:39Speaker 1: Oh, soccer hard-o is the worst. No, no, no, no, no.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Hockey hard-o is worse because the hockey guy is always
- 4:46Speaker 5: in comparison with the NBA, and they'll do anything in
- 4:49Speaker 5: their power to let you know why the NBA is
- 4:52Speaker 5: worse than soccer. The NHL and everybody else kind of
- 4:54Speaker 5: watching is like, hockey guy, nobody really cares.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but the soccer hard-o is different. The soccer hard-o
- 5:01Speaker 1: is constantly trying to explain why the game is so beautiful.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Why the game is so great. They're constantly trying to
- 5:08Speaker 1: explain to me what it is that I'm watching. I
- 5:10Speaker 1: know what I'm watching. I'm watching two teams play on
- 5:12Speaker 1: a pitch and no one's scoring goals. That's what I'm
- 5:14Speaker 1: watching every single time I tune into soccer. I know
- 5:17Speaker 1: what it is. I just don't like it.
- 5:19Speaker 5: So the soccer guy is trying to explain the sport
- 5:22Speaker 5: to you. The NHL guy is trying to convince you
- 5:24Speaker 5: to like his sport.
- 5:27Speaker 4: See, I agree with both of you, but I think
- 5:30Speaker 4: the answer is easy. Soccer guy wants you to watch
- 5:33Speaker 4: his sport. He wants to bring you in. He wants
- 5:36Speaker 4: to grow it. Hockey guy is looking down on you
- 5:39Speaker 4: because you're not already there with him.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I mean, the soccer guy could grow it if the
- 5:44Speaker 1: soccer guy would go out on the pitch and score
- 5:46Speaker 1: a couple of goals for me.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Well, listen, we're not talking about which sport is better.
- 5:51Speaker 4: We're talking about which hard-o is worse.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yes. Well, for me, it's soccer, but I understand why
- 5:57Speaker 1: you guys would say hockey because Taylor's right. The soccer
- 6:01Speaker 1: hard-o is simply trying to grow the sport. He cares
- 6:04Speaker 1: that much about it that he wants to take the time.
- 6:06Speaker 1: He wants to explain it to you. The hockey hard-o,
- 6:10Speaker 1: he has no time to explain anything. He just wants
- 6:12Speaker 1: you to watch. They're both awful meals because one of
- 6:18Speaker 1: them has better customer service. Soccer does, right. It's like
- 6:23Speaker 1: Chris Whittingham explaining soccer to you. He's going to do it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: He's going to do it.
- 6:27Speaker 3: He's got a smile. Yes.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:30Speaker 1: He's very polite. And you might actually find yourself liking
- 6:33Speaker 1: soccer just because you like the guy who's explaining soccer
- 6:36Speaker 1: to you.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Listen, I had a three-week run where I was really
- 6:40Speaker 4: into Chelsea. And then they lost a couple of games.
- 6:44Speaker 4: And I just– and football started. And I just completely
- 6:47Speaker 4: checked out.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Who was my soccer team?
- 6:49Speaker 4: I forget.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I forget.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Ashton Villa.
- 6:51Speaker 1: How are they doing?
- 6:52Speaker 5: They can't be doing well.
- 6:53Speaker 1: They're just not that good. Let's talk some Yankees here
- 7:00Speaker 1: before Ben Verlander comes on. You have Yankees, Red Sox tonight.
- 7:04Speaker 1: You guys excited? Yankees and Red Sox. I mean, come on.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I know you want it later in the playoffs, but
- 7:09Speaker 1: you do have Yankees, Red Sox, wild card round. No judge.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Stanton's playing. Not the guy you want playing. You'd rather
- 7:17Speaker 1: have judge. If you could only choose one, you would
- 7:18Speaker 1: want judge over Stanton. But how do you guys feel
- 7:21Speaker 1: headed into the series?
- 7:22Speaker 5: So I'm nervous heading into the series with no Aaron
- 7:25Speaker 5: judge because you would like your MVP who crushes lefties.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:32Speaker 5: In against a team that's going to primarily throw lefties.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Game one for me, it's as close as a must
- 7:37Speaker 5: win as you could get when you have somebody like
- 7:40Speaker 5: Cam Schlittler taking the mound for the Yankees. He's going
- 7:42Speaker 5: to go up against Peyton Tolley from the Red Sox.
- 7:45Speaker 5: And Tolley has held the Yankees to an 093 batting
- 7:48Speaker 5: average over his career. He's 1-0,. 69 ERA, 18 strikeouts
- 7:52Speaker 5: in his career against the Yankees. This is just strength
- 7:55Speaker 5: on strength right now with Tolley and Schlittler. And right now,
- 7:59Speaker 5: you would be... The only thing that gives me confidence, Mikey,
- 8:02Speaker 5: is that this series is in New York. Other than that,
- 8:07Speaker 5: I'm very scared for this wildcard series.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have a playoff Stanton
- 8:14Speaker 4: on the roster right now than a playoff judge.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Now, I want Aaron Judge back.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Wow.
- 8:18Speaker 4: He does hit lefties and all that stuff. But let's
- 8:21Speaker 4: not discount what playoff Stanton is like. I will say this, though.
- 8:26Speaker 4: This is kind of a lose-lose series for us because either–
- 8:32Speaker 4: the Yankees are going to win and dominate like they're
- 8:34Speaker 4: supposed to, because they are the better team.
- 8:36Speaker 3: They're the better roster. There is no, like they just
- 8:39Speaker 3: are the better.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Team or they're going to lose in those ugly fashion
- 8:43Speaker 4: stolen base in the ninth inning, followed by a single
- 8:46Speaker 4: to lose the game type ways. Not that I'm still
- 8:50Speaker 4: reeling from 2004. And it's just going to break my heart.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Aaron Judge batted 500 last postseason.
- 8:59Speaker 5: I think we might want him in the lineup.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I mean, 500, Mikey. And how many games? How many games?
- 9:10Speaker 1: How many at-bats? Give me all the postseasons. What did
- 9:13Speaker 1: he go, two for four? Hold on, I want to
- 9:14Speaker 1: hear them all. Just relax for a second. He'll get
- 9:16Speaker 1: to them. He's getting to them. He'll get to them.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I want to hear all of them because this is
- 9:22Speaker 1: the guy that Mikey doesn't– I.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Didn't say I didn't want him in the lineup.
- 9:27Speaker 4: I'm just saying historically postseason Stanton better than postseason.
- 9:31Speaker 1: If you noticed, I was pulling my thoughts back there
- 9:34Speaker 1: for a second. This is a guy he'd rather have
- 9:36Speaker 1: over Stanton, would less rather have than Stanton on his
- 9:40Speaker 1: playoff roster. Give me the numbers from last year for Judge.
- 9:43Speaker 5: So last postseason, he was 13 of 26 in seven games.
- 9:48Speaker 5: The one knock, if you're trying to give Mike Yeh
- 9:50Speaker 5: credit here, only one of those 13 hits was a
- 9:54Speaker 5: home run.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:55Speaker 5: So so that's the knock on Aaron judge that he
- 9:58Speaker 5: has seven RBIs in seven games. And you would expect
- 10:02Speaker 5: better production in terms of extra base hits for somebody
- 10:05Speaker 5: like him when it carries over into the postseason.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But what Mikey A is saying is the Yankees have
- 10:09Speaker 1: to win this. Winning this series just means they did
- 10:12Speaker 1: what they were supposed to do. Losing this series, you
- 10:14Speaker 1: never stop hearing it from Boston. I'm totally with you
- 10:17Speaker 1: on this, yes. You have to win this series. You
- 10:19Speaker 1: have the better team, and you do have the better
- 10:21Speaker 1: pitcher tonight, and you're at home.
- 10:25Speaker 3: And where I live in Connecticut, it's a 50-50 split.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:30Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's it's a lot. So I can't
- 10:33Speaker 3: get away from it. Taylor, you're down in Miami.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Right. The Yankees lose and you just walk down the
- 10:38Speaker 4: street and just nobody cares.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 10:40Speaker 4: I have to no matter where I go, there's somebody
- 10:43Speaker 4: that knows I'm a Yankee fan.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I go to the deli. They're like, oh, how about
- 10:46Speaker 3: your Yankees? Go Sox.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yes. Mikey lives in a neighborhood where his neighbor could
- 10:50Speaker 1: be a Red Sox fan, could be a Yankee fan.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Every other house is a Yankee fan, Red Sox fan,
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yankee fan. Red Sox fan. Although people do like to
- 10:58Speaker 1: mock the Yankees nationally. They do. Doesn't matter. Like Taylor
- 11:02Speaker 1: might walk into a deli in South Florida. It might
- 11:04Speaker 1: be one random guy, you know, Ricardo, who just starts
- 11:08Speaker 1: mocking him because the Yankees have lost to the Red Sox.
- 11:11Speaker 1: But you're right. Other than that, no one really cares,
- 11:13Speaker 1: especially down here.
- 11:14Speaker 5: My only pushback here is that. Calling this series a
- 11:17Speaker 5: lose-lose for the Yankees. Because if you win, you still
- 11:20Speaker 5: move on to the next round.
- 11:22Speaker 3: You're supposed to win.
- 11:23Speaker 1: If you win, you did what you were supposed to do.
- 11:25Speaker 1: That's all I say.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Are they really supposed to win? The Yankees are favorites
- 11:30Speaker 5: in this series because it's in the Bronx, but I
- 11:32Speaker 5: don't think the Yankees are supposed to win with their
- 11:34Speaker 5: struggles against lefties.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Yeah, but if you look at their starting who should
- 11:40Speaker 6: be the runaway Cy Young winner, and we're sitting here
- 11:43Speaker 6: worried about Ben Toley or whatever the hell his name is.
- 11:48Speaker 3: It's a lineup full of no names.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It's Peyton Toley.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Him too.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Yes, Peyton Toley.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Him too. Yes.
- 11:53Speaker 4: And now we're sitting here, and it's like the Red
- 11:56Speaker 4: Sox road– an amazing run in the middle of the
- 12:01Speaker 4: summer but they've been basically 500 since then there's no
- 12:04Speaker 4: way the yankees should lose this series at home right
- 12:08Speaker 4: starting cam schlittler max freed yeah and your game three
- 12:12Speaker 4: starter just happens to be one of the best pitchers
- 12:16Speaker 4: of the last decade like there's no way they should
- 12:18Speaker 4: lose this.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Series uh garrett coles who he's talking about uh most
- 12:21Speaker 1: teams would love to have him as their ace as
- 12:24Speaker 1: their number one starter he starts game three for the Yankees.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Baseball is random. We all know that. The Yankees are
- 12:30Speaker 1: the better team, have been the better team for the
- 12:32Speaker 1: entire season. The Red Sox had their moment. They had
- 12:35Speaker 1: their runs. But Mikey's right. They're kind of limping into
- 12:38Speaker 1: the playoffs here.
- 12:39Speaker 5: Yeah, but even then, the Yankees are minus 170 favorites
- 12:43Speaker 5: to win this series. It's not like they're a minus 400, like,
- 12:47Speaker 5: a massive upset.
- 12:48Speaker 1: No, but they're the favorites. He's just saying winning doesn't–
- 12:51Speaker 1: it's no cause for celebration. If you win, you did
- 12:53Speaker 1: what you were supposed to do. You moved on to
- 12:55Speaker 1: the next round of the playoffs. If you lose, you
- 12:57Speaker 1: get mocked by Red Sox fans who know they don't
- 12:59Speaker 1: have a better team, yet they still beat you. I mean,
- 13:02Speaker 1: so I'm with Mikey. We had a short fact here
- 13:07Speaker 1: that blew us away. Hockey is starting. Now let's get
- 13:10Speaker 1: to a short game that Taylor has for us before
- 13:13Speaker 1: we get to Ben Verlander. Oh, there's music.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Yep. Always is.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Of course there is.
- 13:18Speaker 1: By the way, if you want our football thoughts, last
- 13:20Speaker 1: night's game, Stugatz and Company, check it out, the show
- 13:22Speaker 1: before the show. Download, subscribe, rate, review, do all that
- 13:25Speaker 1: good stuff.
- 13:27Speaker 5: So with the baseball playoffs starting today.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Our two contestants, Mikey A.
- 13:33Speaker 3: And Stu Gotts.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Wow.
- 13:34Speaker 5: I need you guys to do one thing for me.
- 13:38Speaker 5: The Astros-White Sox game. Name either starting pitcher.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Wow. Wow. Astros and White Sox. Wow. What a turnaround
- 13:50Speaker 1: year for the White Sox. I mean, geez. Postseason.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Also, while you guys are thinking, when Jose Altuve takes
- 13:58Speaker 5: the field today, he will have played in more postseason
- 14:01Speaker 5: games than the entire Mets franchise. Almost impossible.
- 14:06Speaker 1: That's a great stat. That should have been your fact
- 14:10Speaker 1: of the day. Vargas. Vargas. It's a good guess. No. No,
- 14:19Speaker 1: it's a great guess.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I'm trying to hear Ricardo laughing in the background.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Well, because, yeah, there's probably 15 starting pitchers in the
- 14:25Speaker 1: majors with the last name Borges.
- 14:28Speaker 3: I played the numbers, man. I played the numbers.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Vasquez.
- 14:32Speaker 5: No, Javi Vasquez is not on the White Sox anymore.
- 14:34Speaker 1: He's not.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Should be.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Contreras.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Jose Contreras is not on.
- 14:39Speaker 1: The White Sox.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Mark Burley still doing things? Ah, Burley.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Mark Burley hung it up.
- 14:45Speaker 1: He's done, huh? Ooh, so an Astro.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Listen, my favorite White Sox is Colston Montgomery because I
- 14:53Speaker 4: love saying his name.
- 14:54Speaker 3: He's an English gentleman who hits home runs.
- 14:56Speaker 1: How about Danks? Wasn't there a pitcher named Danks?
- 14:59Speaker 5: Bobby Danks.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:00Speaker 5: No, he's not starting, though.
- 15:01Speaker 1: What? I think it was a closer.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Yeah, Bobby Janks.
- 15:05Speaker 1: No, there was a Danks, too, for the White Sox.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Sure.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Sure there was. Look it up. Back in the day.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Not too long ago.
- 15:12Speaker 5: John Danks.
- 15:13Speaker 1: John Danks. Danksy. thank you later take that to the
- 15:18Speaker 1: dank smith ah smith.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Mikey you got it yes hey playing the numbers i
- 15:27Speaker 5: was gonna say johnson the matchup tonight hagan smith takes
- 15:32Speaker 5: the bump for the white socks at 5 p.m eastern
- 15:35Speaker 5: yes first somebody named aj blue ball burnett A.J.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Blue Ball. A.J. Burnett. Pitch for the Marlins.
- 15:46Speaker 3: And the Yankees.
- 15:47Speaker 1: And the Pirates. Yes, and the Pirates.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Really? Yep.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I didn't know that. I had to stop short there
- 15:53Speaker 1: for a second. Small fact of the day right there.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I had no idea. There you go.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Wait, so who's the pitcher that Mikey got right?
- 16:01Speaker 5: Hagen Smith.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Smith.
- 16:05Speaker 1: How many guesses would I have had to given you?
- 16:08Speaker 1: To guess his first name before you got it right,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you think?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Forever? We'd just be guessing forever. I would sneeze and
- 16:16Speaker 3: have a better shot of getting it right. Did you
- 16:18Speaker 3: say Aiken? Bless you.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I was going to guess Justin Verlander.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 16:34Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific on
- 16:38Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 16:43Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the if the season ended today.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It's a game we like to play around here after
- 16:50Speaker 1: each week. Week four is wrapped up in the NFL.
- 16:53Speaker 1: It moves quickly, guys. We're going to be at Radio
- 16:56Speaker 1: Rose and we're going to miss this thing before you
- 16:59Speaker 1: know it. So what do you have for us?
- 17:00Speaker 5: Well, week three wrapped up.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Week three. Listen, green screen. Kenneth Gainwell. I'm old.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I'm senile.
- 17:06Speaker 5: I thought I lost a week.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Well, I'm sorry.
- 17:11Speaker 3: It was a hell of a witching hour. Yes.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Week three is wrapped up. My apologies with last night's victory.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Case Keenum has become the best backup in the NFL.
- 17:21Speaker 1: What do you have for us, Mikey?
- 17:24Speaker 3: You want AFC playoffs, NFC playoffs or number one pick?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Taylor preference.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Are we not doing coach of the year? Because Clint
- 17:34Speaker 5: Kubiak has wrapped that up, right?
- 17:36Speaker 1: If the season ended today. If the season ended today.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I don't know. Has he?
- 17:38Speaker 3: Ben Johnson would like a word. Ben Johnson would like
- 17:41Speaker 3: a word.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Would he?
- 17:43Speaker 3: He would.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I think Kubiak.
- 17:45Speaker 3: And that's just until Kevin O'Connell takes it from both
- 17:48Speaker 3: of them.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Todd Bowles.
- 17:49Speaker 5: I'm not Todd Bowles.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Todd Bowles. Brian Flores.
- 17:52Speaker 5: Brian Flores, my man.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Todd Bowles, the rare Owen three. Not on the hot
- 17:55Speaker 1: seat ever. Wait, so coach of the year?
- 17:59Speaker 5: Kubiak. So then I think we go number one pick.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I mean, McCarthy. Who's the Browns coach? Munkin.
- 18:10Speaker 5: He's done way better than I thought.
- 18:12Speaker 1: They're 2-1. Anyway, we're not doing that. AFC, Mikey.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Okay.
- 18:20Speaker 1: You said, you said AFC playoffs, NFC.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Taylor, and then Taylor something. And then you ignored what
- 18:26Speaker 3: Taylor said. He said, just did it. You're you're listen.
- 18:29Speaker 3: He's in a green screen. We're good.
- 18:31Speaker 4: AFC playoff picture. The number one seed. No surprise. Patrick
- 18:36Speaker 4: Mahomes all the way back. The Kansas city chiefs. They
- 18:38Speaker 4: have the number one seat.
- 18:39Speaker 1: All right. Makes sense. If the season ended today. Yes.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Plenty of games to be played. They play the Raiders
- 18:46Speaker 1: this weekend.
- 18:46Speaker 3: But if the season ended today.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 18:50Speaker 3: If the season ended.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Today, the Denver Broncos are traveling to the Buffalo Bills.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Wow.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Playoff rematch from last year.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Great game.
- 19:01Speaker 5: Revenge game for Josh Allen.
- 19:04Speaker 1: It always is because he always loses in the postseason.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I was going to say.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Well, last year was in Denver. Now he gets it
- 19:09Speaker 5: at Highmark.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Yeah. How do you feel about Highmark, by the way?
- 19:14Speaker 5: I feel like I got a go to experience. It's
- 19:18Speaker 5: like giving a review for a restaurant before you taste
- 19:21Speaker 5: a meal.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:23Speaker 4: It's like commenting on someone's background when it's a green screen.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Like you can't really tell because you're just staring at
- 19:28Speaker 4: a screen.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Thank you for reminding me.
- 19:31Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So this is a big game. It's a playoff game.
- 19:35Speaker 1: It's Broncos at Bills. Josh Allen. And Bo Nix. I
- 19:40Speaker 1: don't know, man. I would take the Bills here. I
- 19:41Speaker 1: think it's Josh Allen's here. I'm going to say it.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I think it's just if the season ended today, I
- 19:46Speaker 1: think it's Josh Allen's here. Yes. MVP. Yes.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Your second matchup in the AFC.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:54Speaker 3: The Ravens at the Jaguars. Another great game. It really is.
- 20:01Speaker 5: I like the Jaguars here.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Really?
- 20:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Yeah. So do I believe it in Trevor Lawrence. Are you?
- 20:08Speaker 3: Listen, if the season ended today, yes.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Believing in Lamar Jackson, am I? If the season ended today,
- 20:19Speaker 1: Baltimore with so much momentum coming off that win in
- 20:22Speaker 1: Rio to get themselves the home field advantage of this game.
- 20:28Speaker 1: If the season ended today, I would take Lamar Jackson
- 20:30Speaker 1: and the Baltimore Ravens in that game. If the season
- 20:32Speaker 1: ended today.
- 20:33Speaker 3: On the road.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I would.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Against that juggernaut in Jacksonville.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Yep. All right.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Your last playoff matchup in the AFC.
- 20:40Speaker 1: If the season ended today.
- 20:43Speaker 3: The 3-0 Las Vegas Raiders.
- 20:46Speaker 7: Jesus.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Get into a rock fight with the AFC North champion,
- 20:51Speaker 4: Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins and Aaron Rodgers.
- 20:56Speaker 5: The last thing Aaron Rodgers wants to see right now.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Wow.
- 20:59Speaker 5: The last thing Aaron Rodgers wants to see right now
- 21:02Speaker 5: is Max Crosby lined up against him. I love this
- 21:06Speaker 5: Raiders team. There's something about this Raiders team. I would
- 21:08Speaker 5: have the Raiders beating the Steelers.
- 21:10Speaker 3: You like that?
- 21:12Speaker 1: You like that? I'm just trying to imagine just Lamar Jackson,
- 21:18Speaker 1: Josh Allen, Mahomes sweating the fact that they have to
- 21:21Speaker 1: play the winner. Aaron Rodgers. Kirk cousins. Oh boy.
- 21:27Speaker 3: No, they received. Remember one of them's got to face
- 21:29Speaker 3: the chiefs.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Right? I know. But just the idea of any of
- 21:32Speaker 1: them being afraid of either of those quarterbacks as they
- 21:35Speaker 1: go through the playoffs is laugh out loud. Funny. I'm
- 21:38Speaker 1: going to take the Raiders special season. If the season
- 21:41Speaker 1: ended today. Wow. Yes.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Wow.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I don't disagree with you.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I'm getting behind the Raiders, man.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I am.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I like them. Welcome.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 1: What do you mean, welcome? All right.
- 21:53Speaker 3: I've been here.
- 21:53Speaker 1: The water's warm.
- 21:54Speaker 3: He's been here. He has been here.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Where?
- 21:57Speaker 3: He has.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I'm not aware that he's been here. What do you mean?
- 21:59Speaker 5: I've been telling people since March that this Raiders team
- 22:01Speaker 5: was pretty good.
- 22:02Speaker 1: That's right. The Raiders. Yes. He has been since March.
- 22:05Speaker 1: He has been. Blessing in disguise from Max Goresby. Anyway,
- 22:11Speaker 1: NFC playoff.
- 22:12Speaker 4: NFC, your number one seed, coach of the year, Kevin O'Connell,
- 22:17Speaker 4: number one seed, the Minnesota Vikings.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:20Speaker 8: Fraud your first playoff matchup nfc west showdown between the
- 22:28Speaker 8: seattle seahawks traveling to the 49ers wow nine has been.
- 22:33Speaker 1: The best team in the nfl this year i feel like.
- 22:36Speaker 5: I would pick the seahawks just because i don't think
- 22:38Speaker 5: the niners are going to have enough bodies to feel the.
- 22:40Speaker 9: Team soon plus if something happens to sam they have
- 22:48Speaker 9: drew lock Not the best backup.
- 22:50Speaker 1: He's the second best backup. Case Keenum. I'm going to
- 22:54Speaker 1: take the Seahawks in that game to win it.
- 22:56Speaker 8: Okay.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Your next matchup. Dust off Case Keenum because it's a
- 23:01Speaker 3: rematch of yesterday.
- 23:03Speaker 4: The Chicago Bears at the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Wow.
- 23:07Speaker 1: At the Eagles. But Caleb is better.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Yeah, this is an easy one for the Bears winning.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Well, listen, if you tell me Case Keenum's starting, I
- 23:15Speaker 3: agree with you. Ben Johnson.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Ben Johnson has Fangio's number right now.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I still put it on the poll. Does Ben Johnson
- 23:23Speaker 1: have Fangio's number right now if the season ended today?
- 23:27Speaker 1: I am taking the Eagles. I still believe in Jalen Hurts.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I still believe in Nick Sirianni. I'm taking the Eagles
- 23:33Speaker 1: to win.
- 23:35Speaker 4: And your last playoff matchup, the Detroit Lions are at
- 23:40Speaker 4: the Carolina Panthers.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Panthers are back, huh?
- 23:45Speaker 5: Matchup of cats.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Meow.
- 23:51Speaker 1: A lion or a panther. Lion's the king of the jungle, right?
- 23:57Speaker 5: Panthers are the king of the south.
- 24:00Speaker 1: They are. It's well said by you. Something's got to give.
- 24:04Speaker 1: A couple of kings cutting it up. I take Carolina
- 24:10Speaker 1: just because I want Carolina to never stop playing football.
- 24:14Speaker 5: I do love that team.
- 24:16Speaker 1: They're a roller coaster.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 24:22Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Kenneth Gainwell is going to join us coming up here
- 24:30Speaker 1: in about 15 minutes. I'm looking at a report right
- 24:33Speaker 1: now on my television before we get to if the
- 24:36Speaker 1: season ended today. I'm looking at a report right now.
- 24:40Speaker 1: that Lincoln Riley's future is in jeopardy at USC.
- 24:44Speaker 3: No kidding. You don't say.
- 24:49Speaker 1: What took so long? Why do you think it's in
- 24:54Speaker 1: jeopardy right now? I mean, just out of curiosity. Is
- 24:58Speaker 1: it because he's coming off a loss and because his
- 25:00Speaker 1: player tried to take the Oregon quarterback's head off? Oh, God.
- 25:04Speaker 5: I would probably say it's the 5-15 record against ranked opponents.
- 25:08Speaker 5: That's kind of what's doing him in.
- 25:11Speaker 3: That would help.
- 25:12Speaker 4: I would say that losing in a stage like that
- 25:16Speaker 4: with a player acting the way he did after a
- 25:18Speaker 4: hit like that, I would say also is very bad
- 25:22Speaker 4: optics for the university.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Yep.
- 25:24Speaker 5: So what it's going to come down to, USC, I
- 25:28Speaker 5: don't think there's any way Lincoln Riley comes back from this.
- 25:30Speaker 5: I think Lincoln Riley is a dead man walking right
- 25:32Speaker 5: now in L.A.
- 25:33Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 25:34Speaker 5: It's going to cost $ 70 million to buy him out.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 25:37Speaker 5: And if you're USC, you have to decide whether or
- 25:40Speaker 5: not that price tag is worth it. if he's just
- 25:43Speaker 5: going to keep dragging your program down and making a
- 25:46Speaker 5: mockery of your program, is $ 70 million worth it? And
- 25:49Speaker 5: I don't really think we have that kind of answer
- 25:51Speaker 5: in college football.
- 25:54Speaker 3: It's a big price tag, but it's also USC.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Like if you were to tell me, hey, pick three
- 26:00Speaker 4: schools that have the money to do a $ 70 million buyout, USC.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Is one of them, right?
- 26:06Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. Texas. There are certain schools that can absorb
- 26:10Speaker 1: that amount of money. And USC, with its lack of
- 26:13Speaker 1: fan base, is somehow one of those schools. But that's
- 26:17Speaker 1: going to be a job that a lot of people covet, right? Like,
- 26:19Speaker 1: coaches are going to want that job. Being the head
- 26:22Speaker 1: coach at USC still means something. Being the coach at
- 26:25Speaker 1: LSU still meant something to Lane Kiffin. It's why he's
- 26:28Speaker 1: at LSU, even in a changing college football environment where
- 26:32Speaker 1: you can win anywhere. Look at Indiana. Being the head
- 26:35Speaker 1: coach at USC is going to mean something to somebody, right?
- 26:39Speaker 1: They're going to get a big name. People are going
- 26:41Speaker 1: to be interested.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I fully agree with you, but I would also ask,
- 26:46Speaker 4: who's available that doesn't have one of those jobs you
- 26:50Speaker 4: don't leave that you're like, yeah, that's the guy they
- 26:53Speaker 4: can go after? Who's a coach that you're looking at
- 26:56Speaker 4: and you're going, you know what? We could pry that
- 26:59Speaker 4: guy away from that program because we're USC.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Signetti from Indiana.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't think Cignetti's leaving Indiana. Probably not.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I want you guys to think about that. I want
- 27:10Speaker 1: you to think about what we just said. Cignetti would
- 27:13Speaker 1: not leave the University of Indiana to go be the
- 27:16Speaker 1: head football coach at USC. Man, have things changed. That
- 27:20Speaker 1: is incredible.
- 27:21Speaker 5: I think if you're USC, the pipe dream would be
- 27:25Speaker 5: Alabama season blows up. Alabama moves on from Kalen DeBoer.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Kalen DeBoer goes over, goes back to the West Coast
- 27:32Speaker 5: where he had his most success at Washington. And then
- 27:36Speaker 5: behind that, it's... The list of coaches right now, it's
- 27:41Speaker 5: not really that enticing. It's not?
- 27:43Speaker 3: No.
- 27:43Speaker 5: We're going to do the song and dance that we
- 27:45Speaker 5: do every offseason with somebody like Kenny Dillingham and Arizona
- 27:49Speaker 5: State doing their best efforts to keep them. It's Sataki
- 27:52Speaker 5: from BYU, and we saw what happened when Penn State
- 27:55Speaker 5: tried to get involved last year. And then it's going
- 27:57Speaker 5: to be like, do they take a chance on a
- 27:59Speaker 5: Georgia up-and-coming coordinator?
- 28:01Speaker 3: Right. Do they— Do they call Pete Carroll back?
- 28:05Speaker 1: I would. Hey, Pete. Hey, Pete. No.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Hey, Pete, remember?
- 28:09Speaker 1: Pete, remember? He's saying, hey, Pete, so many times because
- 28:13Speaker 1: Pete is old enough where he can't hear what's being
- 28:16Speaker 1: said to him. Who is this? Yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 4: First off, Pete Carroll runs circles around you when he's
- 28:23Speaker 4: like 30 years old.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Oh, I know he does. When he's dead, he'll be
- 28:27Speaker 1: running circles around me.
- 28:28Speaker 5: If USC wants my advice, is somebody in the failed
- 28:32Speaker 5: NFL head coach's tree right now?
- 28:34Speaker 1: Take Belichick.
- 28:35Speaker 5: No, I'm telling USC, stay away from the NFL coach
- 28:41Speaker 5: that flamed out.
- 28:42Speaker 1: All right. How about Urban Meyer? You're going to get
- 28:44Speaker 1: those names. Like those guys are going to be interested.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I'm telling you. How about your boy, Bob Chesney? You
- 28:49Speaker 1: love that guy. I mean, no, no.
- 28:52Speaker 5: You think he leaves UCLA for USC?
- 28:54Speaker 1: It's USC, man.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:58Speaker 5: I think you're, you're seeing it now in, in the
- 29:00Speaker 5: college football world. Like, You're not taking, I think UCLA
- 29:04Speaker 5: to USC at best in 2026 is a lateral move.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Okay. How about Will Stodd, Kentucky?
- 29:10Speaker 3: Hold on a second. Back to that.
- 29:12Speaker 4: What if it comes out that he said no? like
- 29:15Speaker 4: what kind of tarnishes that on usc to have the
- 29:18Speaker 4: ucla coach say no i'm not going there too risky
- 29:22Speaker 4: it's it's right it's a big swing and you miss
- 29:25Speaker 4: it's a big miss.
- 29:26Speaker 7: It's embarrassing correct and i don't think a a sitting
- 29:30Speaker 7: scc coach is leaving their job for a usc job
- 29:34Speaker 7: like like stew you mentioned will stein i think if
- 29:37Speaker 7: you want a successful coach you're going to have to
- 29:39Speaker 7: go to a conference like the ACC and somebody like
- 29:41Speaker 7: maybe Rhett Lashley at SMU who's had success at SMU,
- 29:46Speaker 7: but An SMU coach is getting on.
- 29:49Speaker 5: The first flight to LAX to be the next USC coach.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Would Dan Lanning leave Oregon to go to USC?
- 29:55Speaker 3: No.
- 29:57Speaker 7: No.
- 29:58Speaker 5: He bullies USC right now.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I know he does.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Yeah, he's hated there right now, and he should be.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I'm trying to think. Would– Well, I was going to
- 30:08Speaker 1: say Dabo, but why would you want Dabo at this point?
- 30:10Speaker 1: Clemson barely wants him.
- 30:13Speaker 4: One for one trade. Lincoln Riley for Dabo Swinney.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Who says no?
- 30:19Speaker 1: Clemson barely wants him. It's unbelievable. But Lincoln Riley should. Listen,
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm glad that his job's in jeopardy. I shouldn't say
- 30:28Speaker 1: I'm glad. I don't root that upon anyone. But what
- 30:32Speaker 1: took so long?
- 30:35Speaker 4: Here's my question about Lincoln Riley yes this was a
- 30:37Speaker 4: guy who was one of the.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Most coveted coaches when he was at Oklahoma.
- 30:41Speaker 1: He was the coveted coach Mike yes what what does
- 30:45Speaker 1: it look.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Like for him now like there's no Nick Saban to
- 30:49Speaker 4: come come be my offensive coordinator rebuild your image and
- 30:52Speaker 4: you'll go take another job right there's no like Sark
- 30:55Speaker 4: or or Lane Kiffin did so like where who wants
- 31:00Speaker 4: Lincoln Riley now.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Huh it's a good question maybe back to Oklahoma.
- 31:04Speaker 5: No, he's hated in Oklahoma.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Taylor, you don't realize you can be hated for leaving
- 31:10Speaker 1: Oklahoma and then go back to Oklahoma and be the savior,
- 31:13Speaker 1: and they'll love you all over again. I mean, that's
- 31:15Speaker 1: the way sports works.
- 31:16Speaker 5: I think there's always a place for somebody like Lincoln
- 31:18Speaker 5: Riley in the world where he's such a good offensive mind.
- 31:24Speaker 5: that that's going to play anywhere if his only goal
- 31:28Speaker 5: is let's recruit the best players, let me just focus
- 31:30Speaker 5: on offense, I don't have to run the entire team
- 31:34Speaker 5: because the problems that he had in Oklahoma and the
- 31:36Speaker 5: problems that he had at USC are now the same
- 31:39Speaker 5: where in big games, you cannot trust his defense to
- 31:42Speaker 5: get any stops.
- 31:43Speaker 7: Right.
- 31:45Speaker 4: But what level of school are we talking? Are we
- 31:47Speaker 4: talking like Arizona? Are we talking a school like that?
- 31:50Speaker 4: Are we talking like if Sataki leaves, is he up
- 31:55Speaker 4: for that job?
- 31:56Speaker 3: Or is that like, no, we're okay. Thank you, Lincoln.
- 31:59Speaker 1: If Sataki leaves BYU, is Lincoln up for the BYU job? Yes.
- 32:03Speaker 5: It just doesn't seem like a cultural fit at BYU.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Of course it doesn't seem.
- 32:09Speaker 4: I'm talking like what program is the height of what
- 32:14Speaker 4: Lincoln Riley can get right now?
- 32:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:16Speaker 1: It's a good question. I don't know.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Bill Belichick leaves. Do you want him at North Carolina?
- 32:21Speaker 1: Taylor would take him at North Carolina.
- 32:22Speaker 3: North Carolina want him?
- 32:24Speaker 5: I think you take Lincoln Riley.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yes.
- 32:25Speaker 1: And North Carolina would want Lincoln.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:28Speaker 5: North Carolina is in no position right now to be,
- 32:30Speaker 5: to be beggars. Mikey, you mentioned the Dabo Lincoln Riley
- 32:34Speaker 5: one for one trade. The name I mentioned before as
- 32:37Speaker 5: a potential USC name, Rhett Lashley at SMU, I think
- 32:40Speaker 5: that's a situation where if you flip those guys and
- 32:43Speaker 5: get somebody new at USC and Lashley's coaching the Trojans
- 32:46Speaker 5: and then Lincoln Riley goes back to SMU, that's probably
- 32:49Speaker 5: a decent landing spot for somebody like Lincoln Riley to
- 32:53Speaker 5: try to get back in a much weaker conference and
- 32:56Speaker 5: establish himself again.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Is there an NFL coach who perhaps is on the
- 33:00Speaker 1: hot seat who might be thinking, hey, you know what?
- 33:02Speaker 1: The college game don't look so bad right now. They're
- 33:04Speaker 1: getting paid over there. I'm wondering. LeFleur, probably. Yeah, but
- 33:10Speaker 1: LeFleur fancies himself an NFL coach.
- 33:12Speaker 5: Mike McDaniel.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Oh, wow. He's right there. Oh, my God. Wow.
- 33:18Speaker 5: Actually, I forgot about that. Mike McDaniel is in L.A.
- 33:21Speaker 1: He is situated right now. Wow.
- 33:26Speaker 4: I think I want Mike McDaniel to USC to happen.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Why? Because you want him to be bad?
- 33:31Speaker 3: No, I just– you know what? I'd love to see
- 33:33Speaker 3: him in college.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I'd love to see him doing all that in college
- 33:37Speaker 4: in L.A.
- 33:37Speaker 3: I think– I mean– It just kind of fits, doesn't it?
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yes, it certainly does. Unlike Lincoln Riley at BYU. Satake's
- 33:50Speaker 1: never leaving that place enough.
- 33:52Speaker 5: No, they kind of showed that with Penn State, with
- 33:55Speaker 5: the crumble cookie money coming in and getting everybody from
- 33:58Speaker 5: Penn State off the Satake trail.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm trying to think of, I mean, they can
- 34:02Speaker 1: have Aaron Glenn. I'm just looking at it.
- 34:07Speaker 3: You would take Lincoln Riley?
- 34:09Speaker 1: For the Jets?
- 34:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:11Speaker 1: No, I would not. I'm just saying they can have
- 34:13Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn. I don't care who they're going to replace
- 34:15Speaker 1: him with. They can just have him.
- 34:17Speaker 5: I'm so torn on Aaron Glenn where every week, which
- 34:21Speaker 5: can't be a good sign for Aaron Glenn that I
- 34:23Speaker 5: flip-flop every week in terms of thinking that he's the
- 34:25Speaker 5: coach of the future because the Jets, just in comparison
- 34:29Speaker 5: to last year, The Jets are a much more competent
- 34:33Speaker 5: football team.
- 34:34Speaker 3: They are.
- 34:34Speaker 5: But then there's still moments that poke through on occasion
- 34:38Speaker 5: with Aaron Glenn where you're like, man, this guy, I
- 34:40Speaker 5: don't think he's cut out to be a head coach.
- 34:44Speaker 5: And if you're even questioning if a guy's cut out
- 34:47Speaker 5: to be an NFL head coach, I guess that's your
- 34:49Speaker 5: answer right there.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Yes. Just looking through the NFL teams here. Just a
- 34:54Speaker 1: little scroll through the NFL teams, looking for the bad ones,
- 34:57Speaker 1: thinking Jim Harbaugh's not going back to college. There's no way.
- 35:01Speaker 1: although he should. D'Amico Ryans would be a great college
- 35:03Speaker 1: coach and someone I would want and covet to be
- 35:07Speaker 1: coach of my favorite university or NFL team, for that matter,
- 35:10Speaker 1: even though they're 0-3. Robert Sala seems like he would
- 35:13Speaker 1: be a good college coach. Oh, I don't know. That's
- 35:18Speaker 1: a coveted job, though. I like Mike McDaniel. I think
- 35:21Speaker 1: Mikey's on to it. I think Mike McDaniel to USC
- 35:23Speaker 1: would make a lot of sense. And I'm saying this
- 35:25Speaker 1: having no idea if Lincoln Riley is ever going to
- 35:27Speaker 1: be fired. Just a rumor that he's on the hot seat.
- 35:30Speaker 5: Who do you guys think will be the first NFL
- 35:32Speaker 5: coach fired in 2026? Because it feels like a two-man
- 35:35Speaker 5: race right now with Todd Bowles in Tampa.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Todd Bowles is never getting fired.
- 35:38Speaker 5: And Matt LaFleur in Green Bay.
- 35:40Speaker 1: LaFleur.
- 35:41Speaker 5: And guess what? This week, Tampa versus Green Bay.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Wow.
- 35:47Speaker 3: That might be a loser-lose town. Loser doesn't get a
- 35:49Speaker 3: ride home, right?
- 35:50Speaker 1: The losing coach leaves town.
- 35:54Speaker 3: I'll throw out another one at you.
- 35:55Speaker 1: All right.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Shane Steichen.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Colts.
- 35:58Speaker 6: Colts.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Colts.
- 36:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:00Speaker 3: They've already kind of given him like the shot across
- 36:03Speaker 3: the bow warning from the ownership. Right.
- 36:06Speaker 4: They they have been I mean, they lost what, nine
- 36:09Speaker 4: in a row. Then they eke out a win against Houston.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Now they're going to London.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I could see this ending quickly for Shane Steichen.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I do think it's fascinating. I don't have an answer
- 36:22Speaker 1: for you, but I do not know if Lincoln Riley
- 36:25Speaker 1: would be coveted as a head coach elsewhere, anywhere. As
- 36:28Speaker 1: an OC, yes. As a quarterback whisperer, yes. I'm not
- 36:31Speaker 1: certain he would be wanted at any university. It's crazy
- 36:35Speaker 1: to say that because he was the hottest coach.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 36:39Speaker 4: So if Lincoln Riley was willing to take an NFL
- 36:43Speaker 4: offensive coordinator job Are you excited?
- 36:47Speaker 1: Is it Chicago?
- 36:49Speaker 3: No.
- 36:50Speaker 9: We'll say it's the Jets.
- 36:52Speaker 3: We'll say the Jets.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Get rid of Glenn. They're going to hire a new coach.
- 36:57Speaker 4: This coach goes, hey, Lincoln Riley's my OC. We're going
- 37:00Speaker 4: to bring in a rookie quarterback, and here's my guy.
- 37:03Speaker 4: You're excited.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I'd be excited. Would you?
- 37:05Speaker 5: Okay.
- 37:07Speaker 3: I would be intrigued. I would be very intrigued.
- 37:11Speaker 4: Because his sole focus would be developing quarterbacks.
- 37:15Speaker 3: He can do that. And running an offense, he can
- 37:19Speaker 3: do that.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Yes. It is interesting. I'm not certain what took so
- 37:23Speaker 1: long for Lincoln Riley to be on the hot seat
- 37:25Speaker 1: for his future at USC to be in jeopardy. But
- 37:29Speaker 1: we'll see what happens with him. Before we get to
- 37:32Speaker 1: Kenneth Gamewell here, do you guys have any– Have any
- 37:35Speaker 1: other thoughts on what transpired last night? I do feel like,
- 37:39Speaker 1: and I've been laughing about it the entire day, we
- 37:41Speaker 1: are making way too much of the performance of, God,
- 37:45Speaker 1: who's the Texans quarterback?
- 37:47Speaker 3: Case Keenum.
- 37:47Speaker 1: That guy, yes. I'm tired. I was up all night watching.
- 37:49Speaker 1: The Texans quarterback.
- 37:50Speaker 3: You mean the Chicago Bears quarterback.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I meant the Bears quarterback, but I associate him with
- 37:54Speaker 1: the Texans. I'm tired because I was up all night
- 37:56Speaker 1: watching that game because I picked up Case Keenum on
- 37:58Speaker 1: waivers for my fantasy team. I needed a QB, and
- 38:00Speaker 1: he delivered last night. But I am laughing that we're
- 38:03Speaker 1: making too big of a deal about Case Keenum having
- 38:06Speaker 1: the game that he had at home, a singular game,
- 38:10Speaker 1: and we're talking about Case Keenum. He's a pro's pro.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Troy Aikman said when your number's called, you got to
- 38:15Speaker 1: be ready, and Case Keenum is always ready. And they
- 38:18Speaker 1: asked him about his longevity in the NFL, and he
- 38:20Speaker 1: said he keeps getting up. That's the key to his longevity.
- 38:24Speaker 1: He keeps taking hits, and he keeps getting up. He
- 38:26Speaker 1: hasn't taken a hit in five years. But we're making
- 38:29Speaker 1: too much of Case Keenum. Are we not? It feels
- 38:31Speaker 1: like we are.
- 38:33Speaker 4: I feel like we are making more about Case Keenum
- 38:36Speaker 4: than need be. I think the star of the game
- 38:38Speaker 4: yesterday was Keenum, but with Ben Johnson pulling the strings,
- 38:43Speaker 4: I think the more intriguing thing from yesterday's matchup is
- 38:47Speaker 4: just how inept the Philadelphia Eagles looked. on the road
- 38:51Speaker 4: against a team that you should have steamrolled without their
- 38:53Speaker 4: starting quarterback.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts. We've all given up on Jalen Hurts and
- 38:58Speaker 1: the Eagles, right? You were just waiting for that.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I don't think I was ever on the Jalen Hurts train.
- 39:04Speaker 3: I know.
- 39:04Speaker 1: So if you're pounding the Eagles today, you were waiting
- 39:06Speaker 1: for a performance like that and a game like that
- 39:09Speaker 1: so you could pound the Eagles today, pound the quarterback,
- 39:12Speaker 1: and pound Nick Sirianni.
- 39:13Speaker 3: You're right.
- 39:14Speaker 1: It's a game they should have won. They lost. The
- 39:16Speaker 1: Eagles are going to be fine.
- 39:18Speaker 4: What I think is that Jalen Hurts has been screaming
- 39:21Speaker 4: for years that he wants everything his way.
- 39:23Speaker 3: And I think this is as.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Close to it that the Eagles have given him with
- 39:28Speaker 4: the offensive game plan, the play caller, the system, all
- 39:33Speaker 4: of it, and I don't think it looks good.
- 39:35Speaker 5: And this is now just a trend for this Eagles
- 39:37Speaker 5: offense dating back to 2025 where they have 60 drives
- 39:41Speaker 5: ending in three and outs. over that stretch, which is
- 39:44Speaker 5: 30th in the NFL. 7.7 yards to go on third down,
- 39:49Speaker 5: which is 31st. 131 rushes for zero or negative yards
- 39:53Speaker 5: over that stretch. That's 31st. Like, Stu, since 2025, this
- 39:57Speaker 5: has been a pretty bad offense that's just being buoyed
- 40:01Speaker 5: up by somebody like Saquon Barkley at the running back position.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I understand that, but they're still a team. Granted, they've
- 40:07Speaker 1: lost A.J.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Brown.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Granted... Last night was pretty ugly, but there's still a
- 40:12Speaker 1: team that has won a Super Bowl recently and been
- 40:15Speaker 1: to two, and they have a pretty good head coach. Listen,
- 40:19Speaker 1: I do think the bigger story is the Eagles losing
- 40:21Speaker 1: that game than the Bears winning that game, and I'd
- 40:23Speaker 1: rather be Chicago for the remainder of this year than
- 40:26Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles, but I'm not giving up on Jalen Hurts.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I mean, and it seems like a lot of people aren't.
- 40:32Speaker 4: I would argue that there is very few teams more
- 40:36Speaker 4: talented top to bottom than the Philadelphia Eagles roster is.
- 40:39Speaker 3: So what's the problem?
- 40:41Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni. He's headed to USC. I'm sorry, Kenneth Gainwell. Next.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Kenneth Gainwell. Man, he's got a great smile. What a
- 40:55Speaker 1: nice kid, huh?
- 40:55Speaker 3: Fantastic smile.
- 40:58Speaker 5: Now, this is a radio medium.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Yes.
- 41:00Speaker 5: So the radio audience is just going to have to
- 41:02Speaker 5: trust us that we saw Kenneth Gainwell smile.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 41:06Speaker 5: And man, that thing glistened.
- 41:07Speaker 1: They're going to have to trust Oral-B and Crest because
- 41:09Speaker 1: they wouldn't select an athlete to endorse their products if
- 41:12Speaker 1: he didn't indeed have a great smile. And that was
- 41:15Speaker 1: a great smile.
- 41:16Speaker 5: There was also another awkward part in or an awkward
- 41:19Speaker 5: part in that interview where you were questioning him on
- 41:22Speaker 5: how nice his background was.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Yes.
- 41:24Speaker 5: But he had a green screen background behind him.
- 41:27Speaker 1: I didn't realize. Yeah.
- 41:30Speaker 5: You had him in like this mahogany like office setting.
- 41:34Speaker 5: And I think that's why he kind of laughed off
- 41:36Speaker 5: your question about it, because every time he moved, you
- 41:39Speaker 5: would see like that that very clearly wasn't the background.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Taylor, you could have gone the rest of the time
- 41:45Speaker 1: without telling me that. I just would have thought that
- 41:48Speaker 1: Kenneth Gainwell.
- 41:49Speaker 5: For some reason- Man, the Gainwell's residence is beautiful.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Had a dark mahogany. Rich mahogany. He studied mahogany is
- 41:55Speaker 1: a great word. Put it on the ball. Is mahogany
- 41:57Speaker 1: a great word?
- 42:01Speaker 4: I know you can't tell on Zoom, but as soon
- 42:04Speaker 4: as you said that to Kenneth Gainwell, I looked at
- 42:07Speaker 4: Taylor and he looked at me and we both kind
- 42:09Speaker 4: of gave this- Did he really just ask him about.
- 42:13Speaker 3: A green screen background and where he is?
- 42:15Speaker 5: Yes.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Because it was clearly a green screen. Like there was
- 42:19Speaker 3: things coming in and out.
- 42:22Speaker 5: And it was.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Every time you say we're the same age and then
- 42:26Speaker 4: you do something like that, it makes me mad.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Well, it should make you happy that we're not the
- 42:30Speaker 1: same age. You're 15 years younger. Wait, so the look.
- 42:36Speaker 3: It's called 20.
- 42:37Speaker 1: The look you gave Taylor and the look that Taylor
- 42:39Speaker 1: gave you. Is it a look that Stugatz is old
- 42:42Speaker 1: and senile?
- 42:43Speaker 5: And the look that Kenneth Gainwell gave you while you
- 42:44Speaker 5: asked that question.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Yes, I didn't even notice. I was staring at his teeth.
- 42:48Speaker 3: And his mahogany. And his hands, his great hands. Wait,
- 42:55Speaker 3: so it was a Greed's Greed?
- 42:56Speaker 4: 1,000%.
- 42:57Speaker 1: 1,000%.
- 42:57Speaker 3: You're sure?
- 43:00Speaker 5: Yeah, my guess was he was up against a beige wall,
- 43:03Speaker 5: an empty wall or something.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Oh boy, I'm getting old.
- 43:06Speaker 5: If you work in logistics, you know nothing moves without you.
- 43:09Speaker 5: Companies need skilled people now, and Express Employment Professionals can

- 43:22Speaker 5: Express Pro, Pro of the Week. The Pro of the
- 43:24Speaker 5: Week goes to Bears quarterback Case Keenum. In his first
- 43:27Speaker 5: start in nearly three years, the 38-year-old was 24 of
- 43:30Speaker 5: 34 for 247 yards. and two touchdowns in the Bears'
- 43:36Speaker 5: win over the Eagles last night. Congrats to Case Keenum
- 43:39Speaker 5: for being our Express Pros Pro of the Week.
- 43:41Speaker 1: That's a nice story. We're making too big of a
- 43:43Speaker 1: deal of it. I mean, seriously. He wins the Express
- 43:46Speaker 1: Pros Employee of the Week? I mean, what are we
- 43:48Speaker 1: doing here?
- 43:50Speaker 3: Should. Give me a better pro this week. Go ahead.
- 43:55Speaker 3: I dare you.
- 43:56Speaker 1: He's a pros pro.
- 43:57Speaker 3: You're right.
- 43:57Speaker 1: He's a pros pro. Listen, they called his number, and
- 44:01Speaker 1: he was ready when his number was called. That's all
- 44:03Speaker 1: you can ask from a pro's pro. You're right, Mikey.
- 44:05Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 44:05Speaker 5: He's number one in my backup quarterback's power rankings now.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Really?
- 44:09Speaker 5: Yep.
- 44:10Speaker 1: He vaulted ahead of Drew Locke? I mean.
- 44:12Speaker 5: What have you done for me lately?
- 44:13Speaker 1: And Jameis.
- 44:14Speaker 5: Oh, Jameis stinks. Something's wrong with Jameis Winston. I'm going
- 44:18Speaker 5: to be the first one to call it right now. Yes.
- 44:21Speaker 5: There is something wrong with Jameis Winston's arm that they're
- 44:24Speaker 5: not telling us about. Because Jameis Winston used to be this, like,
- 44:27Speaker 5: fun fantasy quarterback. Like, he's out there slinging it. He's
- 44:31Speaker 5: going to throw interceptions. He's going to throw touchdowns.
- 44:33Speaker 1: He'd get you six and take six away. Yes.
- 44:36Speaker 5: And now when you watch him throw, there's no zip
- 44:39Speaker 5: on the ball.
- 44:40Speaker 4: No.
- 44:40Speaker 5: And I know it's going to happen. They're going to
- 44:42Speaker 5: use the Rams game as an excuse for a short
- 44:45Speaker 5: week in preparation. Jameis wasn't prepared, even though, again, that's
- 44:48Speaker 5: Jameis Winston's fault that he wasn't prepared to step into
- 44:52Speaker 5: that game when Jackson Dart goes down. And then the
- 44:54Speaker 5: Titans game, they're going to say it was weather-related. That's
- 44:58Speaker 5: why Jameis Winston... didn't have a great performance but there
- 45:01Speaker 5: is a reason why the giants went out and got
- 45:03Speaker 5: jj mccarthy yesterday yeah i think jamis is playing for
- 45:06Speaker 5: his job this weekend.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Uh you could have said i know what's going to
- 45:09Speaker 1: happen jj mccarthy is eventually going to be the starting
- 45:12Speaker 1: quarterback for the new york giants it would have been
- 45:13Speaker 1: a lot more efficient there i understand what it is
- 45:17Speaker 1: you're saying something is wrong with his army as a
- 45:20Speaker 1: noodle arm now yeah mikey.
- 45:22Speaker 3: What happens if J.J. McCarthy does well? I can't even
- 45:24Speaker 3: say it too loud. I'm not whispering. But, like, what
- 45:28Speaker 3: happens if he does well?
- 45:31Speaker 1: Right. Well, what do you mean what happens? You mean
- 45:32Speaker 1: next year? What happens when Jackson Dart comes back?
- 45:36Speaker 3: When Jackson Dart comes back, it's going to be his job.
- 45:38Speaker 3: But if J.J. McCarthy plays well.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:43Speaker 3: Are teams going to be trying to get J.J. McCarthy?
- 45:45Speaker 1: Are the Giants going to try to resign J.J. McCarthy?
- 45:48Speaker 1: Do you think Jackson Dart likes the presence of J.J. McCarthy?
- 45:51Speaker 1: I think he likes it with Jameis.
- 45:53Speaker 5: There's no world where J.J. McCarthy steps into the Giants'
- 45:58Speaker 5: starting quarterback position enough to displace what Jackson Dart is
- 46:02Speaker 5: as their potential franchise quarterback.
- 46:05Speaker 1: There's always enough.
- 46:06Speaker 3: But with two years of injuries, season-ending injuries.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Do they lock him up a little bit? Like, hey,
- 46:14Speaker 3: Dart's our guy. But JJ, you just hang around. You'll
- 46:18Speaker 3: get some time.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Well, if he's good, why would you not lock him up? Yeah,
- 46:21Speaker 1: I would think, right? If he's good. And why would
- 46:23Speaker 1: you not consider him over Jackson Dart? I mean, the
- 46:25Speaker 1: guy's always injured.
- 46:26Speaker 5: It feels strange with JJ McCarthy where I'm not even
- 46:30Speaker 5: sure if there's a precedent of it in the NFL
- 46:32Speaker 5: where He was drafted in the top 10 in 2024,
- 46:36Speaker 5: and just 10 games into his career, we've already kind
- 46:38Speaker 5: of written him off as a quarterback?
- 46:40Speaker 1: Yes. Well, most people have. John Harbaugh hasn't. I mean,
- 46:44Speaker 1: he just hasn't. How do you guys feel when an
- 46:46Speaker 1: expert like Ben Verlander comes on and he says your
- 46:50Speaker 1: team is going to the World Series? I am wondering,
- 46:53Speaker 1: as Yankee fans, is that something that's encouraging to you?
- 46:56Speaker 1: Would you rather not hear about it? Like, how do
- 46:58Speaker 1: you feel about experts saying your team is the team
- 47:01Speaker 1: That's going to the World Series. He had Phillies-Yankees, which
- 47:04Speaker 1: is a World Series that everyone would love.
- 47:06Speaker 5: What I don't understand there, if you're going to go
- 47:08Speaker 5: as far to say the Yankees are going to make
- 47:09Speaker 5: the World Series, the Phillies are going to be the
- 47:12Speaker 5: thing that stops them?
- 47:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:14Speaker 5: The Phillies aren't like the big red machine in the 70s.
- 47:20Speaker 1: No, but that's why they're far from it. That's why
- 47:23Speaker 1: it was a bold prediction by him. He said, bold take,
- 47:25Speaker 1: bold prediction. He's going with the Philadelphia Phillies to make
- 47:28Speaker 1: it out of the National League against the Yankees. And
- 47:30Speaker 1: by the way, the caller who called in last week
- 47:35Speaker 1: about Aaron Judge, the Yankees winning a World Series without
- 47:37Speaker 1: Aaron Judge, Ben Verlander says they're getting there. I don't
- 47:40Speaker 1: know if Judge comes back or not, but if it
- 47:43Speaker 1: does come to fruition, that is the worst case scenario
- 47:46Speaker 1: for Aaron Judge.
- 47:47Speaker 3: It is.
- 47:49Speaker 4: I can't speak for Taylor, but getting to the World
- 47:51Speaker 4: Series is not the goal of the New York Yankees.
- 47:54Speaker 5: They play for rings.
- 47:56Speaker 1: 27 of them.
- 47:57Speaker 5: We'll remind you of that at every turn.
- 47:59Speaker 1: We know you will. Embarrassing. Yes, but you're not... Neither
- 48:05Speaker 1: of you answered my question correctly.
