- 2:37Speaker 4: kind of keeping an eye on the national news here
- 2:39Speaker 4: as well, where John Bolton's home is currently being rated
- 2:43Speaker 4: by the FBI is home and BUTTHESTA Maryland so of
- 2:47Speaker 4: course your network news, ABC News, I believe just talked
- 2:49Speaker 4: about it a couple of moments ago, and we're kind
- 2:51Speaker 4: of keeping an eye on that story as well. I'm
- 2:53Speaker 4: sure Meadows and Wilson will have more on that coming
- 2:55Speaker 4: up during talk line as well as we do every Friday.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Let's check in whether good friend, Angie, Gil and Water
- 3:00Speaker 4: from the Ganal Charleston Humane Association with this week's Adopt
- 3:03Speaker 4: Me Please Pet of the Week, Angie. Good morning, Happy Friday,
- 3:06Speaker 4: Welcome to the show.
- 3:07Speaker 7: Good morning and happy Friday all you guys now.
- 3:10Speaker 4: As always, our pets picture posted on Dave Allen Radio
- 3:13Speaker 4: on Facebook and also on the WCCHS Network Facebook page
- 3:17Speaker 4: and dave A at Dave A seventy on exits at
- 3:20Speaker 4: Dave A seventy on X tell us about Tiny Dancer.
- 3:24Speaker 4: That is our dog this week, and we have featured
- 3:27Speaker 4: her before?
- 3:29Speaker 7: Oh we have? I did not know that we had
- 3:32Speaker 7: featured Tiny Dancer already show.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Did I misread your text? I'm sorry?
- 3:36Speaker 7: We actually featured her brother Crocodile.
- 3:39Speaker 4: I got you, okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I
- 3:42Speaker 4: must have. I must have misread your text. I apologize
- 3:45Speaker 4: for that.
- 3:45Speaker 7: But even if we have featured her before, you know what,
- 3:48Speaker 7: I really hope she gets adopted. She's gonna be my
- 3:50Speaker 7: current favorite at the shelter right now. She is about
- 3:54Speaker 7: nine months old and about thirty to forty pounds, so
- 3:58Speaker 7: kind of on the smaller side, great with other dogs,
- 4:02Speaker 7: loves to go to our play groups, and great with kids.
- 4:05Speaker 7: She's already stayed and upgrade on all our vaccine, so
- 4:08Speaker 7: if you do an adopt her, she gets to go
- 4:09Speaker 7: home immediately with you. And the only downside to Tiny
- 4:14Speaker 7: Dancer is she is what we call an escape artist.
- 4:17Speaker 7: She does love to jump fences, so she will need
- 4:21Speaker 7: to be monitored if you're outside or on a leash
- 4:24Speaker 7: if you don't have a fence, because she is the
- 4:26Speaker 7: type that will hit the.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Ground running or hit the ground jumping, as the case
- 4:30Speaker 4: may be. Yeah, yeah, and so I will go and
- 4:33Speaker 4: throw this out there. You know you need to know
- 4:35Speaker 4: that going in. But I mean it's not saying that
- 4:37Speaker 4: she can't be worked with because she's still so very
- 4:40Speaker 4: very young. But if you're going to consider adopting this
- 4:44Speaker 4: dog and think, well, I'll just leave her chained up,
- 4:47Speaker 4: then don't do it.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Just don't do it, Yes.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Please do not do that. We can offer a lot
- 4:52Speaker 7: of resources for you as far as training goes to
- 4:55Speaker 7: encourage her not to be a fence jumper and not
- 4:58Speaker 7: that you know, tie out and as an air quotes,
- 5:02Speaker 7: chaining the dog up is not you know, it's not
- 5:05Speaker 7: necessarily a bad thing for a small periods of time
- 5:08Speaker 7: while you're working on training her. One of my dogs
- 5:11Speaker 7: has a tie out while we work on training. But
- 5:15Speaker 7: her living on a tie out is not what we're looking.
- 5:17Speaker 4: No, no, it's never what you're looking for in any case.
- 5:19Speaker 4: But that's a good point that you brought about the training.
- 5:21Speaker 4: But if you're going to get a dog and you're
- 5:23Speaker 4: going to leave them chained up, then don't get a dog,
- 5:25Speaker 4: get a fish. That's my opinion. We'll get back to
- 5:29Speaker 4: a tiny dancer here momentarily. Again, we're talking to Angie
- 5:31Speaker 4: Gillan Water from the Canala Charleston Umane Association. Your numbers
- 5:35Speaker 4: are quite high, Angie, And according to your social media
- 5:38Speaker 4: that I check out before the show, I did it
- 5:40Speaker 4: earlier this morning, you're looking at something like four hundred
- 5:42Speaker 4: and thirteen animals up there? Is that, right?
- 5:46Speaker 7: Yes? And what's crazy is four hundred and thirteen. I'm
- 5:49Speaker 7: glad we're in the four hundreds at this point, right,
- 5:53Speaker 7: I'm glad we're out of the five hundreds. Four hundred
- 5:55Speaker 7: and thirteen is still a lot to be taken care of.
- 5:57Speaker 7: I'm glad we are away from the five hundred exactly.
- 6:01Speaker 4: And I say that because we want to bring up
- 6:03Speaker 4: that you folks are in need of a lot of
- 6:06Speaker 4: different things, but primarily food is what you're looking for now, right.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Yes, yesterday we have found out we were close to
- 6:13Speaker 7: cracking open the last bags of Purina dog Chowl and
- 6:17Speaker 7: we did use our last bag of Purina kitt and
- 6:20Speaker 7: Chow yesterday. So food is a big need for us,
- 6:23Speaker 7: as well as down dishwashing liquid. We're completely out of
- 6:26Speaker 7: that as well, and that is very important for us
- 6:29Speaker 7: to have to be able to wash dishes each day.
- 6:31Speaker 4: All right. So again, you know, we do the segment
- 6:33Speaker 4: every Friday, and I get people all the time to say, man,
- 6:36Speaker 4: I love listening to you and Aerngie on the radio,
- 6:39Speaker 4: and I wish I could adopt a dog, but I
- 6:41Speaker 4: live in a small place. I've got other dogs I can't.
- 6:44Speaker 4: There are ways you can help out the Canal Charleston
- 6:46Speaker 4: Humane Association in the shelter without actually adopting a pet,
- 6:49Speaker 4: and this is one of those.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Absolutely. Donating supplies that we need is a big way
- 6:54Speaker 7: to help us. Or you can stop by the shelter
- 6:56Speaker 7: and volunteer or borrow a buddy for the day. If
- 6:59Speaker 7: you don't know what borrow he is, you quite literally
- 7:01Speaker 7: can just borrow one of our dogs, takes them on
- 7:03Speaker 7: a super fun day and then bring them back before
- 7:06Speaker 7: we could.
- 7:06Speaker 4: And this would be a great weekend to do that
- 7:08Speaker 4: because the weather is actually going to be really, really
- 7:11Speaker 4: nice this weekend, and I was looking ahead, Angie at
- 7:14Speaker 4: the next week. It's almost going to feel like fall, sunshine,
- 7:17Speaker 4: temperatures in below seventies pretty much every day next week.
- 7:19Speaker 4: It would be a great time because it's been just
- 7:22Speaker 4: so hot this summer. It would be a great time
- 7:24Speaker 4: for somebody to go and borrow buddies, you say, take
- 7:26Speaker 4: them for a walk, take them to one of the
- 7:28Speaker 4: dog parks, take them, you know, out on the boulevard,
- 7:30Speaker 4: and he don't have to worry about burning their their
- 7:32Speaker 4: their pads on the on the ground or anything. Be
- 7:34Speaker 4: a great time to do that.
- 7:36Speaker 7: Absolutely. We actually had one of our long term residents, Bongo,
- 7:40Speaker 7: he went to a borrow a buddy yesterday and he
- 7:43Speaker 7: was simply taken because he likes to play in the
- 7:45Speaker 7: water and he likes pools. Someone actually came and got
- 7:49Speaker 7: him because she has an end ground pool and wanted
- 7:51Speaker 7: him to have fun swimming for the day.
- 7:53Speaker 4: So it's as simple as a I love it, I
- 7:55Speaker 4: love it.
- 7:55Speaker 2: You did.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Somebody just said I need I need a water dog
- 7:58Speaker 4: for the day, and then they went and got the bongo.
- 8:00Speaker 4: The Nave Island Show in five eighty live is presented
- 8:03Speaker 4: apart by Generations Physical Therapy with nine practices all offering
- 8:06Speaker 4: extended hours. So access to physical therapy has never been
- 8:08Speaker 4: easier for your appointment three zero four, seven, six zero
- 8:11Speaker 4: fifty six to sixty or visit generationspt dot com. When
- 8:14Speaker 4: you were talking about some of the things that you
- 8:17Speaker 4: needed Antie as far as donations go, and you did
- 8:19Speaker 4: mention Dawn dishwashing liquid. Had somebody asked me one time,
- 8:22Speaker 4: why is it brand specific? But there's a reason for that. Explain.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Oh uh, We actually we're not too picky about brands
- 8:30Speaker 7: when it comes with the dishwashing liquids specifically. Now with
- 8:34Speaker 7: our foods we are, but things like dishwashing legs that
- 8:39Speaker 7: we are not tacky out. Okay, Yeah, people just recognize
- 8:43Speaker 7: Dawn really popular.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's kind of like saying band aid, which
- 8:48Speaker 4: is actually a brand name, you know, or crayon or
- 8:50Speaker 4: something like that. Okray olda Okay, I got you because
- 8:53Speaker 4: here's the reason I say that is because somebody had
- 8:55Speaker 4: asked me at one point, and I know there are
- 8:57Speaker 4: certain things like that that you want specific brands for
- 9:02Speaker 4: one reason or another, and I thought maybe with don
- 9:04Speaker 4: it may be because it was just better, you know,
- 9:06Speaker 4: for cleaning purposes or whatever, something in the chemicals or whatever.
- 9:09Speaker 4: But but you'll pretty much take what take what you
- 9:12Speaker 4: can get. Are you as specific on the on the
- 9:14Speaker 4: brands of animal food that you ask for?
- 9:18Speaker 7: Yes, So we feed everyone on a Purina diet number one,
- 9:22Speaker 7: just because it is like the most affordable food out
- 9:25Speaker 7: there for us to maintain in bulk. And then also
- 9:29Speaker 7: we feed everyone the same food just that way. If
- 9:31Speaker 7: someone has, you know, tummy issues, we know that it's
- 9:35Speaker 7: probably food related because we're feeding everyone the same thing good.
- 9:39Speaker 7: So then we can you know, explore other options with that.
- 9:42Speaker 7: And then as far as the cast goes, same thing,
- 9:45Speaker 7: pretty specific on food with that, just to keep an
- 9:48Speaker 7: eye out for tommy issues and we know it's not
- 9:50Speaker 7: food related or it is food related with that, So
- 9:53Speaker 7: that is why we are specific with that. If you
- 9:56Speaker 7: do donate brands that are not Purina brand foods, we
- 10:00Speaker 7: still have a great use for those. We actually have
- 10:02Speaker 7: a public food pantry for pets in the community that
- 10:05Speaker 7: need fed so they don't have to come into the
- 10:08Speaker 7: shelter system, so we use other brands for that.
- 10:12Speaker 4: That's something we haven't spent a lot of time talking
- 10:14Speaker 4: about and what we may explore that in the future
- 10:17Speaker 4: segment is that food pantry that you have. Got a
- 10:19Speaker 4: couple of questions here for you. Via the text line,
- 10:22Speaker 4: somebody said, for Angie, has anyone brought in the kitten
- 10:25Speaker 4: that was thrown from the bridge last week? Just wanted
- 10:28Speaker 4: to see if he or she's okay emotionally. I hope
- 10:31Speaker 4: someone or someone had a camera got the license of
- 10:34Speaker 4: that white suv that did that to this sweet thing.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Time to start arresting these pieces of human fecal matter
- 10:40Speaker 4: for this evil are you Are you familiar with that story, Angie?
- 10:43Speaker 7: I am familiar with the story, and we I mean
- 10:46Speaker 7: I prepared our whole team. I saw it on Facebook
- 10:49Speaker 7: and I was like, we've got a kitten that was
- 10:50Speaker 7: thrown off a bridge, like, get medical ready, to get
- 10:52Speaker 7: our cat team ready, get everyone ready. And the kitten
- 10:55Speaker 7: never came in, So I'm assuming that maybe the finder
- 11:00Speaker 7: had taken it to a vet. It was fine and
- 11:02Speaker 7: they found a new home for it. That is best
- 11:05Speaker 7: case scenario and what I'm assuming that had happened. But
- 11:08Speaker 7: we have not gotten that kitt and yet. If we do,
- 11:10Speaker 7: I'll definitely be sure to update.
- 11:12Speaker 4: All right, Another question that person says, I'm asking if
- 11:15Speaker 4: one of the portable classrooms could be used to help
- 11:19Speaker 4: with shelter overflow. Its not just Gnaw, but all over
- 11:21Speaker 4: the states. Please consider that idea. The portable classrooms maybe
- 11:25Speaker 4: that aren't being used anymore, something like that.
- 11:27Speaker 7: Oh, that is a great idea. I'll definitely take that
- 11:30Speaker 7: to the higher ups that aren't me and see if
- 11:34Speaker 7: that is something that could be used. Because the adult dogs,
- 11:37Speaker 7: as far as spacing goes, is what we've been struggling with.
- 11:41Speaker 7: And when I tell you, there's not a single kennel
- 11:43Speaker 7: open ever, as soon as one does open up, another
- 11:46Speaker 7: dog is there to take it to spot. So that
- 11:49Speaker 7: is something that I will definitely share with our team
- 11:51Speaker 7: and we'll look into.
- 11:52Speaker 4: And you know, Angel, We've got our WVRC Media Cares
- 11:55Speaker 4: for Kids radiothon going on right now. Started yesterday, It's
- 11:59Speaker 4: going to wrap up to day raising money for WVU
- 12:03Speaker 4: Children's WU Medicine Children's and somebody sent a text They've
- 12:08Speaker 4: been listening to that and they asked they and do
- 12:10Speaker 4: hospitals like WVU Children's or maybe c AMC ever adopt
- 12:14Speaker 4: a mascot or therapy pets for patient comforts, especially for
- 12:18Speaker 4: kids and the elderly.
- 12:21Speaker 7: So I have not seen a hospital do that in
- 12:24Speaker 7: our area yet. But Metro nine one one actually adopted
- 12:29Speaker 7: a dog from us that lives up there. His name
- 12:31Speaker 7: is Pep. He you know, just kind of offers support
- 12:35Speaker 7: and love to the workers up there that need it,
- 12:40Speaker 7: so he is up there. And then we also have
- 12:43Speaker 7: a contract worked out with Edgewood Summit where we take
- 12:46Speaker 7: puppies to them or kittens to them and visit once
- 12:49Speaker 7: a month. So that is kind of answering that question.
- 12:53Speaker 7: But I've not seen any hospital or anything like that
- 12:56Speaker 7: do that in the area quite yet.
- 12:57Speaker 4: All right, before we let you go, what else you
- 12:59Speaker 4: got going on you guys out and about anywhere this
- 13:01Speaker 4: weekend or any other activities you need to tell us about.
- 13:04Speaker 7: So we do have a special going on this weekend.
- 13:07Speaker 7: Any dog that's over the age of four months old,
- 13:09Speaker 7: you get to pick your price as long as it's
- 13:11Speaker 7: a dollar or more. You get to pick your price
- 13:14Speaker 7: on their adoption tee and we will actually be at
- 13:17Speaker 7: Ellen's ice Cream tomorrow from one to three with adoptable
- 13:21Speaker 7: puppies and kittens and hoping to fund them homes as
- 13:24Speaker 7: well at Ellen.
- 13:25Speaker 4: All right, Ellen's Downtown, all right, and you appreciate it
- 13:28Speaker 4: and we will talk again soon. Thanks a lot.
- 13:31Speaker 6: Down's great, have a good one you as well.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Nine to twenty and again are adopt me? Please put
- 13:36Speaker 4: up the week picture posted on Dave Allen Radio on
- 13:38Speaker 4: Facebook and at Dave A seventy and x. Also on
- 13:40Speaker 4: the WCCHS Network page as well. It's a Tiny Dancer
- 13:44Speaker 4: and a Tiny Dancer is nine months old, fully vaccinated
- 13:49Speaker 4: and spade great with kids. The only drawback to Tiny
- 13:52Speaker 4: Dancer is that maybe Tiny Dancer's name should be Tiny
- 13:55Speaker 4: Jumper because she does like to jump and so she
- 13:59Speaker 4: just needs to be worked with. She's relatively young, so
- 14:01Speaker 4: and she's kind of an escape artist. But somebody could
- 14:03Speaker 4: definitely come into work with its beautiful dog. To check
- 14:05Speaker 4: out the picture, get in touch with the folks at
- 14:07Speaker 4: the GNAWE Charles Newman Association. Let's get this week's pet adopted.

- 16:47Speaker 4: good morning.
- 16:48Speaker 6: What's going on.
- 16:49Speaker 10: I'm not in the studio. I'm from Parts unknown right now.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Brother, I missed your smiling face.
- 16:56Speaker 10: Well I'm smiling right now. You can hear it through
- 16:58Speaker 10: the phone, I.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Hope right, yeah, exactly exactly. So it ain't over till
- 17:02Speaker 4: it's over. And brother, we got one more.
- 17:05Speaker 10: I'm so excited. Yeah, we had a little rain this
- 17:08Speaker 10: summer and we got one of them lightning and rained out.
- 17:12Speaker 10: So the city said, you know what we gotta do.
- 17:14Speaker 10: We gotta do one more kind of a I don't
- 17:17Speaker 10: know what you call it, a little what do you
- 17:20Speaker 10: call them when they come back on the Encore? Yeah,
- 17:24Speaker 10: you have an Encore performer tonight. So yeah, August and
- 17:26Speaker 10: twenty second season twenty one. The Moses Otter Group Live
- 17:30Speaker 10: Levy will come to an official end tonight at six
- 17:34Speaker 10: o'clock down at Hadad Riverfrump Park. Our good friends, we've
- 17:38Speaker 10: known them forever. They're West Virginia Legends or Canal Valley
- 17:41Speaker 10: and they're just Charlestonians that everybody loves. The Carpenter ants
- 17:45Speaker 10: will take center stage at the show and bomb stage
- 17:48Speaker 10: and you know they got that toe tap and Appalachian rock, gospel, eclectic,
- 17:54Speaker 10: write their own stuff, do some covers. They're just great
- 17:57Speaker 10: with Michael and Mark and the guys. And they'll play
- 18:00Speaker 10: for sixty straight minutes. They'll get the audience warmed up,
- 18:04Speaker 10: and then we'll do a little break. We'll thank our sponsors,
- 18:07Speaker 10: we'll let you get a bite to eat, we'll let
- 18:10Speaker 10: you get a spirited beverage or of water or soda,
- 18:12Speaker 10: whatever you'd like down there, enjoy the nice breeze off
- 18:16Speaker 10: of the majestic Canala River. It's going to be a
- 18:19Speaker 10: picture perfect evening weatherwise. We're going to start out about
- 18:22Speaker 10: eighty five and we're gonna go to the mid seventies,
- 18:26Speaker 10: maybe seventy three, and then at seven.
- 18:28Speaker 11: Thirty pm tonight.
- 18:30Speaker 10: They didn't get a chance to do it a month ago.
- 18:32Speaker 10: I know, we talked to Shila and Brandy on the
- 18:34Speaker 10: show about a month ago. But we're bringing back the
- 18:37Speaker 10: Charlie West All Stars. This is the group that's been
- 18:40Speaker 10: together for about ten years, and it's just that it's
- 18:44Speaker 10: the Charleston's best of the best. It's Canall Valley's best
- 18:47Speaker 10: of the best. It's the best vocalist, the best guitarist,
- 18:50Speaker 10: the best drummers, the best bass. I mean, we're bringing
- 18:53Speaker 10: back about ten twelve people. They all have their own
- 18:56Speaker 10: specialty and they're gonna do ninety minutes of raw different
- 19:00Speaker 10: genres and folk and country, and Shayla's going to be,
- 19:05Speaker 10: you know, the lead vocalists, along with Brandy Odell. But
- 19:08Speaker 10: it's going to be a picture perfect evening in my mind.
- 19:11Speaker 10: I look forward to hosting it as I finish up
- 19:14Speaker 10: my twentieth season of Live on the Levee. Kudos to
- 19:18Speaker 10: the City of Charleston, City Hall, the mayor, her team,
- 19:21Speaker 10: Thanks to all the great, great sponsors, and thank thank
- 19:24Speaker 10: all the listeners who've been coming down. It's been a
- 19:27Speaker 10: great summer. We've enjoyed the music. Come down one more time,
- 19:31Speaker 10: you got one more opportunity. The summer's not over until
- 19:35Speaker 10: the Fat Lady's singing. And she hasn't done yet, and
- 19:38Speaker 10: she's and she's not really the Fat Lady's not singing
- 19:41Speaker 10: to night Shay this singing tonight by the way, clear no,
- 19:47Speaker 10: but everybody understand it's not over yet and it'll be
- 19:50Speaker 10: over the night. So you have one more opportunity to
- 19:52Speaker 10: come down and enjoy the levee and enjoy your fellowship
- 19:55Speaker 10: with your friends and ensure the enjoy the river and
- 19:58Speaker 10: enjoy the weather and everything to Charleston offers and I
- 20:01Speaker 10: just want to say, hey, thanks to the City of
- 20:03Speaker 10: Charlson for affording me the opportunity to serve as the
- 20:06Speaker 10: MC for twenty years, and thank you to the WBrC
- 20:10Speaker 10: radio family for helping us support this tonight. I think
- 20:12Speaker 10: your sister station is going to be down there tonight.
- 20:15Speaker 10: Are good friend Steven Jinny with the B one hundred.
- 20:17Speaker 11: You guys have been down there.
- 20:18Speaker 10: We've had a we've had a great run and all
- 20:20Speaker 10: the media partners have been great.
- 20:22Speaker 11: I just want to.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Say thanks Dave Todave Iland Showing five any Live is
- 20:25Speaker 4: brought to you part by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest
- 20:27Speaker 4: injury law firm. So let's talk about the season overall.
- 20:31Speaker 4: I mean, uh, you know, we we did have the
- 20:33Speaker 4: one I think it was just one that was canceled
- 20:35Speaker 4: or postponed, is that right?
- 20:36Speaker 10: Yeah, well we got we had a couple that were tricky.
- 20:40Speaker 10: We got one opener in and then at lightning and
- 20:43Speaker 10: one that we didn't make it all. So it was
- 20:44Speaker 10: a little hectic, but we got you know, we're going
- 20:47Speaker 10: to get them all in and and all. This year
- 20:50Speaker 10: was six and we went with you know, the quality
- 20:52Speaker 10: this year. You know, we mixed in some levees with
- 20:55Speaker 10: the cycling, which was a big night. You know, we
- 20:58Speaker 10: didn't do the levees to the REGDA of course because
- 21:00Speaker 10: that was so huge, but we had we had a
- 21:02Speaker 10: lot of mini regd is down there on Friday nights.
- 21:05Speaker 10: I think they were great. We even had a Thursday
- 21:07Speaker 10: night one one one uh Thursday because of the car
- 21:11Speaker 10: show that came through town. So the city did some
- 21:13Speaker 10: different things. But it's still it's still when I think
- 21:17Speaker 10: about it, it's still live music, no charge for you
- 21:20Speaker 10: to come down. It's still delicious food, it's still affordable beverages.
- 21:24Speaker 10: It's still just the fellowship, the happiness, the joy. As
- 21:28Speaker 10: I always say day, my favorite thing is standing on
- 21:30Speaker 10: that stage and I'm trying to find people that are
- 21:33Speaker 10: not having a good time or smiling on their face,
- 21:36Speaker 10: and I never can. So it still is what it
- 21:39Speaker 10: was intended to do. It's great fun for a great cause.
- 21:43Speaker 10: We helped those five inner city charities. So I think
- 21:46Speaker 10: it was a good summer. I'm already talking with the
- 21:49Speaker 10: city about next summer. We'll see what happens next summer.
- 21:52Speaker 10: I know we're doing it next summer. I know the
- 21:54Speaker 10: city's involved with discussions right now how it's gonna look.
- 21:58Speaker 10: But I know the vendors want to come back, and
- 22:00Speaker 10: I know the patrons want to come down and enjoy
- 22:02Speaker 10: their music. So I think it's going to continue.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Well, it's a summertime tradition, you know, and you come
- 22:07Speaker 4: on to talk about it, and you know it's undergone.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Like everything else in life, Jimmy, you know, sometimes it
- 22:13Speaker 4: has to undergo some changes here or there, but overall
- 22:17Speaker 4: it's been a success. In the bottom line is it's
- 22:18Speaker 4: about providing people fun, It's about providing the musicians and opportunity.
- 22:22Speaker 4: But it's also about raising money for those five inner
- 22:25Speaker 4: city charities that you talked about.
- 22:26Speaker 10: Yeah, we've raised one hundred and twenty seven thousand dollars
- 22:29Speaker 10: the last twenty one seasons for those five inner city
- 22:32Speaker 10: charities and help you we need a bit to eat,
- 22:35Speaker 10: the place to lay their head.
- 22:36Speaker 4: At night, and the one and go ahead. I'm sorry
- 22:40Speaker 4: to go ahead. Well, I was just going to say,
- 22:41Speaker 4: the weather is going to be great tonight.
- 22:45Speaker 10: Have you seen it?
- 22:45Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it looks it looks good.
- 22:47Speaker 10: I start out warm, but it's going to go down
- 22:49Speaker 10: to the mid seventies and I think the humidity will
- 22:51Speaker 10: be low. As a matter of fact, here's how I
- 22:54Speaker 10: know the weather's going to be fine. My mom's walking
- 22:55Speaker 10: over from where she lives on Choyer Streets. That's the
- 22:59Speaker 10: barometer right there. So all you need to know my
- 23:01Speaker 10: mother's walking over. She's eighty nine. If my mom can
- 23:03Speaker 10: walk to the levee, folks, you can come to the
- 23:06Speaker 10: levee tonight.
- 23:07Speaker 4: So what are we going to get into next? I mean,
- 23:09Speaker 4: after this, what's the next big project for us?
- 23:11Speaker 10: Jimmy, Well, I'll go ahead and put a bug in
- 23:13Speaker 10: your ear and I'll be in soon to talk about it.
- 23:15Speaker 10: But September twentieth or twenty first, it's a big weekend
- 23:18Speaker 10: in Charleston. I know there will be other things before that,
- 23:21Speaker 10: like the Charleston Distance Run and some football games in
- 23:24Speaker 10: high school football, but a couple of fundraising events. I
- 23:26Speaker 10: just want to mention that I'll be in to talk
- 23:28Speaker 10: about him. But on September twentieth, on a Saturday, it's
- 23:32Speaker 10: called Mountaineers Night Out. It's gonna be at the Red
- 23:35Speaker 10: Carpet Pavilion. It's gonna be for men and women, and
- 23:37Speaker 10: it's gonna be just that a Mountaineer tailgate party watching
- 23:40Speaker 10: the Mountaineers take on Kansas when they're out there playing
- 23:44Speaker 10: the Jayhawks in Kansas, and we're gonna just watch the game,
- 23:47Speaker 10: have a tailgate party, but we're gonna be raising money
- 23:50Speaker 10: for the kids with cancer. The Westernian Kids Crusaders and
- 23:54Speaker 10: the barbaradeat Center on the West Side. This is something
- 23:56Speaker 10: that was very near and dear to Doug scaff Junior's
- 23:59Speaker 10: hard and we're going to honor his legacy with this event,
- 24:04Speaker 10: raise money for those kids with cancer and the Bobberdebt Center.
- 24:07Speaker 10: So more to come on that, but circle your calendar folks.
- 24:10Speaker 10: September the twentieth. We don't know when the event exactly
- 24:15Speaker 10: will start, but it'll be two hours prior to kickoff.
- 24:17Speaker 10: We're hoping to have three point thirty kickoff that day,
- 24:20Speaker 10: which means the event will start at one point thirty.
- 24:23Speaker 10: We have a little Facebook page, Mountaineers Night Out, go
- 24:26Speaker 10: and learn more there. Always give me a call. I'm
- 24:29Speaker 10: an open book five four one four seven, five six.
- 24:32Speaker 10: We got tons of sponsors already lined up and we're
- 24:35Speaker 10: looking for more ticket sales and five hundred dollars sponsors,
- 24:37Speaker 10: So anyway that's coming. And then the next day, on
- 24:40Speaker 10: September twenty first over at Slack Plaza, the third annual
- 24:43Speaker 10: Leah's Legacy will happen at five o'clock down there. You're
- 24:48Speaker 10: surely honored the service the master ceremonies, but our good
- 24:51Speaker 10: friend would he was, will be spending some vibes there
- 24:54Speaker 10: and Josh Pantry's on a post ceremony concert. We're raising
- 24:58Speaker 10: money for the Leah Trickman Memorial Scholarship Fund, the little
- 25:02Speaker 10: girl that was tragically killed three years ago on I
- 25:05Speaker 10: seventy nine heading home from a soccer match, and we're
- 25:09Speaker 10: going to raise money for her. So it's a five k,
- 25:11Speaker 10: it's a two mile, it's a two mile walk and
- 25:13Speaker 10: a kid's fun run. But it's just a great time
- 25:16Speaker 10: with food vendors and beverages and music and a concert
- 25:19Speaker 10: and raising money for that and the strict and family.
- 25:22Speaker 10: So I'll be in more to talk about that, maybe
- 25:25Speaker 10: have maybe have the family come in and talk about Leah.
- 25:28Speaker 10: But anyway, those are just a couple of strange Dave,
- 25:30Speaker 10: and I appreciate the line and the buying as always
- 25:33Speaker 10: with you and our friendship, and you're always so good
- 25:36Speaker 10: to me to allow me come on even when I'm traveling.
- 25:38Speaker 10: I'm actually traveling up ice seventy nine now, so I'll
- 25:41Speaker 10: look forward to seeing you guys this weekend. And if
- 25:44Speaker 10: nothing else, brother, let me get back to my thing here.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Brother, Okay, all right, I do appreciate it and we'll
- 25:51Speaker 4: see you down live on the leve of tonight. Man,
- 25:52Speaker 4: thanks a lot.
- 25:54Speaker 10: I'll be there, bless your heart. Thanks Dave, a good one.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Jim Strown And you know, whenever I say to Jim,
- 25:59Speaker 4: well what's going on next now that Live on the
- 26:01Speaker 4: Levies coming to an end tonight, He's always got stuff
- 26:04Speaker 4: that's Leah's legacy thing. It's just gotten so huge. And
- 26:07Speaker 4: I've Jim mentioned about coming on the show to talk
- 26:10Speaker 4: about that, and I've had the Leah's parents on the
- 26:12Speaker 4: show the last couple of years. So you got that
- 26:14Speaker 4: going on. And I'm glad that they're going to continue
- 26:17Speaker 4: this Mountaineers Night Out. It's going to be at the
- 26:19Speaker 4: Red Carpet Pavilion. Now, you know the way the WVU
- 26:23Speaker 4: schedule works, now, we don't know until about a week
- 26:26Speaker 4: or so, you know, maybe two before the game what
- 26:29Speaker 4: time kickoff will be. But we'll give you plenty of
- 26:31Speaker 4: notice on that. And this is I'm so glad that's
- 26:33Speaker 4: continuing because this was an event that was so near
- 26:36Speaker 4: and dear to my good friend and yours, Doug scaff
- 26:40Speaker 4: who we tragically lost early this year in an auto accident.
- 26:43Speaker 4: So that's going to continue, so well, that'll be at
- 26:45Speaker 4: the Red Carpet Lounge. We didn't have a text about that.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Asking Jim if anything was planned while warm weather was
- 26:53Speaker 4: going on for WVU football games on the boulevard of
- 26:55Speaker 4: downtown outside would be awesome. I will make sure Jim
- 26:58Speaker 4: sees that. Jim was on a kind of a tight
- 26:59Speaker 4: schedule to get to a meeting. He was kind of
- 27:01Speaker 4: hurried me up there a little bit, so I didn't
- 27:03Speaker 4: get a chance to read that. One of the problems though,
- 27:06Speaker 4: that you run into sometimes, and I'm not going to
- 27:09Speaker 4: say this is an all case, is college athletics can
- 27:12Speaker 4: be can be depending on where you put the things
- 27:17Speaker 4: up on the big screen. They can be very picky
- 27:19Speaker 4: for copyright purposes. And so when you have a place
- 27:23Speaker 4: like the Red Carpet Lounge, and I'm just using that
- 27:26Speaker 4: as an example, those folks pay all the rights to
- 27:28Speaker 4: be able to broadcast whatever they want, but just having
- 27:30Speaker 4: it just anywhere, you gotta be careful because and this
- 27:34Speaker 4: is not a WVU thing, this is an NCAA thing.
- 27:36Speaker 4: College athletics NFL is the same way, and you get
- 27:39Speaker 4: a little bit to picky, you know, on where you
- 27:41Speaker 4: can broadcastings. But I do. I definitely appreciate that text
- 27:45Speaker 4: and make sure that Jim gets that Joe Stevens has
- 27:47Speaker 4: covered up a little bit. Later on, also, we're going
- 27:49Speaker 4: to talk about a big event happening to Capital Market
- 27:51Speaker 4: as it pertains to Jelly's and Jams. I do want
- 27:54Speaker 4: to mention, though, thank you to everybody that came out
- 27:56Speaker 4: last night for the annual Paint the Capital City Green event.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Marshall University Quarterback Club at Charleston held the event at
- 28:01Speaker 4: the bill No Flight School up at Western Giniater National
- 28:05Speaker 4: Yeger Airport, and it was completely sold out of this thing.
- 28:08Speaker 4: I think officially sold out about a week or so ago,
- 28:11Speaker 4: and it was just a great night, picture perfect up there.
- 28:14Speaker 10: You know.
- 28:14Speaker 4: I told we had some people sitting at our WVRC
- 28:17Speaker 4: media table that had never had never gone to the event.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Matter of fact, I don't think any that was at
- 28:22Speaker 4: our table had ever gone to the event before. I said,
- 28:24Speaker 4: you guys don't know what you're in for, because it's
- 28:27Speaker 4: going to be a great, big party celebrating the Marshall
- 28:29Speaker 4: University Thundering Herd, but also in the venue up there
- 28:32Speaker 4: at the bill No Flight School, and we just had
- 28:34Speaker 4: a great night weather, It was perfect, lots of great food,
- 28:37Speaker 4: lots of great drinks celebrating the thundering herd. Senator Shelley
- 28:41Speaker 4: Moore Capito was there trying to off the top my head.
- 28:44Speaker 4: A lot of other elected officials, Mayor Amy Goodwin kick
- 28:46Speaker 4: things off, Marshall, President Brad Smith, all the coaches were there,
- 28:49Speaker 4: including the coach. Julie Falks track and field coach was there,
- 28:51Speaker 4: and of course coach Gibson and Coach Jackson were there
- 28:54Speaker 4: as well, and just a great, great night all around,
- 28:58Speaker 4: and so many sponsors help make it possible raising money
- 29:02Speaker 4: for the Big Green, So thank you. I got to
- 29:04Speaker 4: serve as the MC last night. I got a lot
- 29:05Speaker 4: of pictures posted about it over on my social media
- 29:08Speaker 4: on Dave Alan Radio and Facebook, so you can go
- 29:09Speaker 4: check that out. We had a great time up there
- 29:11Speaker 4: last night. Looking forward to doing it again really really soon.

- 32:37Speaker 4: we don't know exactly what's going on. ABC News is

- 32:57Speaker 4: in Nitro. Tomorrow Joe Stevens join just to talk about it. Joe,
- 33:01Speaker 4: good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 33:04Speaker 11: Good morning Dave, and yes, a busy, busy Saturday in
- 33:08Speaker 11: the fine metropolis of Nitro.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Now, you and I both love our baseball, but you
- 33:14Speaker 4: know me, football is my real passion, and I got
- 33:17Speaker 4: really fired up last night going up to the Painting
- 33:19Speaker 4: Capital City Green Events, sold out event from Marsha University's
- 33:23Speaker 4: Big Green last night. Of course, college football really actually
- 33:26Speaker 4: getting underway this weekend. There's some college action going on
- 33:29Speaker 4: this weekend really begins to earn his next weekend, the
- 33:31Speaker 4: pros will be here in a couple of weeks. You know,
- 33:33Speaker 4: I'm all fired up about that. But you got an
- 33:36Speaker 4: event going on with the mount of your legend tomorrow
- 33:38Speaker 4: talk about and you got actually a couple of events
- 33:40Speaker 4: talk about it.
- 33:42Speaker 11: Well, yes we do. We have probably the greatest quarterback
- 33:47Speaker 11: to play for WVU, and that's Major Harris number nine himself.
- 33:52Speaker 11: He will be here in Nitro. Tomorrow's starting off with
- 33:56Speaker 11: being the Grand Marshall and the Nitro Youth League Football
- 34:00Speaker 11: League annual parade he will be serving. Major will be
- 34:04Speaker 11: serving as the Grand Marshal and the parade goes starts
- 34:09Speaker 11: at the Nitro Boat Ramp and then follows the backstreets
- 34:13Speaker 11: up into Underwood Field at Nitro High School and then
- 34:17Speaker 11: from there Major will be flipping the ceremonial first coin
- 34:22Speaker 11: of the season. And the little side note on the coin,
- 34:26Speaker 11: it's a commemorative coin that we've had made especially for
- 34:30Speaker 11: the event. On one side is the Major's number nine
- 34:34Speaker 11: jersey and then on the other side is the logo
- 34:38Speaker 11: for the Nitro Youth Football League. And by the way,
- 34:42Speaker 11: these coins will be set for sale at the game
- 34:45Speaker 11: and also at the sports Guard show going on. I'll
- 34:50Speaker 11: tell you about that in the second but it's ten
- 34:52Speaker 11: dollars per coin for the commemorative coin. All the proceeds
- 34:55Speaker 11: the coins. We were able to have the CVB take
- 35:00Speaker 11: the coins cost and all the proceeds will be going
- 35:03Speaker 11: to the Nitro Youth League. But after the flipping of
- 35:06Speaker 11: the coin, and by the way, it'll be Nitro versus
- 35:10Speaker 11: Winfield for the Youth football game that will be the
- 35:14Speaker 11: opening game for the season. We'll be taking Major over
- 35:18Speaker 11: to the high school at the Commons area for the
- 35:21Speaker 11: Nitro Sports Cards Show that begins actually at ten o'clock.
- 35:25Speaker 11: We'll go to four o'clock in the Commons area of
- 35:28Speaker 11: Nitro High School. Major will be signing autographs around twelve
- 35:34Speaker 11: thirty one o'clock until three o'clock and the money, the
- 35:38Speaker 11: proceeds that he gets from the signing of the autographs,
- 35:42Speaker 11: half of the proceeds will be going to the Nitro
- 35:46Speaker 11: Youth League Football League. So it's a great time. Eleven
- 35:49Speaker 11: o'clock the parade, twelve o'clock, around twelve o'clock the coin flip,
- 35:54Speaker 11: and then we'll get Major over to the Sports Cards show.
- 35:58Speaker 4: And you know the thing about it is, I think
- 35:59Speaker 4: it's great Major Harris does these sorts of things. But obviously,
- 36:03Speaker 4: I mean, you know, Major was in college at the
- 36:05Speaker 4: same time that I was. These uh, these kids only
- 36:09Speaker 4: know of the legends of Major Harris. Thankfully, a lot
- 36:12Speaker 4: of that video is available on YouTube, but I'm sure
- 36:14Speaker 4: there's gonna be I mean, they'll be excited to know
- 36:16Speaker 4: that a mountain your legend is here. But I must
- 36:17Speaker 4: say mommies and daddy's or grandparents are gonna be probably
- 36:20Speaker 4: a little bit more excited about getting to meet Major Harris.
- 36:23Speaker 11: Oh, without a doubt, as many as fans of we
- 36:27Speaker 11: that we have of w v U football, and and
- 36:30Speaker 11: to be able to meet and greet and say I
- 36:33Speaker 11: met you know, Major Harris. That's gonna be a fun
- 36:35Speaker 11: time and it and it's you know, not behind glass
- 36:38Speaker 11: or anything like that. We're gonna be he and I
- 36:40Speaker 11: are gonna be sitting at the table. It's just like
- 36:42Speaker 11: what we did with George Foster with the uh, you know,
- 36:44Speaker 11: the Cincinnati Reds great that came in for the opening
- 36:47Speaker 11: of the Little League Baseball here in Nitro. It's it's
- 36:51Speaker 11: very uh fan friendly as it may be, and it's
- 36:55Speaker 11: just gonna be a good time.
- 36:57Speaker 12: Dave.
- 36:58Speaker 11: It's just it's it's really to see some of these
- 37:01Speaker 11: kids that they they all of a sudden they realize
- 37:05Speaker 11: who is with them and the smiles that come on
- 37:07Speaker 11: their faces, and that's what it's all about.
- 37:10Speaker 4: But Dave Allanchow and five Any Line brought to you
- 37:11Speaker 4: part by Bridge Valley offering custom tailored trainings, iss last
- 37:15Speaker 4: field graduates and apprenticeship for your company visit Bridge Valley
- 37:18Speaker 4: dot Edu. And I can just imagine the conversations Joe
- 37:20Speaker 4: that are going on with these parents and grandparents that
- 37:24Speaker 4: are getting their kids aside and said, let me tell
- 37:26Speaker 4: you about the legend of Major Harris.
- 37:30Speaker 11: I you know, I hope, I hope a lot of
- 37:34Speaker 11: the young people are going, like you said, go onto
- 37:36Speaker 11: YouTube and see some of the some of the plays
- 37:40Speaker 11: that he had where he should have lost twenty yards
- 37:43Speaker 11: and he scored a touchdown from sixty yards out. I
- 37:46Speaker 11: mean he as a as a player, you know. And
- 37:50Speaker 11: we were talking the other day here in the office
- 37:52Speaker 11: about what if he didn't hurt his shoulder against Nordre Dame,
- 37:56Speaker 11: what could have happened. It didn't, but it will always
- 38:01Speaker 11: be a what if for every WBU fan out there.
- 38:04Speaker 11: And it's just gonna be fun to meet him and
- 38:06Speaker 11: have him meet all the kids too, and enjoy a
- 38:09Speaker 11: day with a WDU great without a doubt.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Well, and I'll say this, you know, there's been a
- 38:14Speaker 4: lot of great WVU teams teams over the years, and
- 38:17Speaker 4: there's a lot of excitement about the Mountaineers this season
- 38:19Speaker 4: with coach Rod Back and Pat White as an assistant
- 38:21Speaker 4: so on, and so forth. You think about those names
- 38:24Speaker 4: from a few years ago, like Pat White, Steve Slayton
- 38:26Speaker 4: and all these others. But you know, I was a
- 38:28Speaker 4: young man in radio when the Mouth of Eers had
- 38:31Speaker 4: that magical season in nineteen eighty eight when Major was
- 38:35Speaker 4: the star, and there's so many other great players on
- 38:37Speaker 4: that team, and I was just beginning my broadcasting career.
- 38:40Speaker 4: My Saturday afternoons were spent putting the Mouth in Eer
- 38:43Speaker 4: games on the air, and you know, doing the commercial
- 38:45Speaker 4: breaks and things of that nature. But I can still
- 38:48Speaker 4: hear in my head the legendary Jack Fleming calling some
- 38:53Speaker 4: of those some of those plays as you talked about
- 38:56Speaker 4: when he should have lost twenty and he gained twenty
- 38:59Speaker 4: five for Major Harris. And because I could just hear
- 39:02Speaker 4: Fleming in my head saying Major, because they didn't even
- 39:05Speaker 4: need to put the last name on it, it was
- 39:06Speaker 4: just Major. And I know, and I've been around, I've
- 39:09Speaker 4: done a lot of events with Major Harris over the years,
- 39:11Speaker 4: and I can tell you he never gets tired of
- 39:14Speaker 4: talking about and An's not really talking about himself, but
- 39:17Speaker 4: answering questions from fans that will say, well, you know
- 39:20Speaker 4: this play and trust me. I mean We love our
- 39:23Speaker 4: we love our college teams in West Virginia, and I
- 39:26Speaker 4: think a lot of that goes because we don't have
- 39:28Speaker 4: a pro team. We all have our favorite pro teams,
- 39:30Speaker 4: but we don't really have a pro team here. So
- 39:33Speaker 4: Mountaineer fans, Marshall fans and the others, they're very knowledgeable
- 39:37Speaker 4: and they'll bring out a specific play. And I've seen
- 39:39Speaker 4: people do this with Major Harris, say do you remember
- 39:41Speaker 4: this game against you know, filled end name here, and
- 39:44Speaker 4: Major may not necessarily remember all the details, but by golly,
- 39:47Speaker 4: the fans do. And that's that's a part of being
- 39:50Speaker 4: a living in a state where we do, where everybody
- 39:53Speaker 4: gets so wrapped up in Mountaineer sports and Marshall sports.
- 39:58Speaker 11: And you know what with that said, you you know
- 40:00Speaker 11: that a lot of folks are going to be talking
- 40:02Speaker 11: to Major, But hey, I saw you when you did
- 40:05Speaker 11: this against Pitt. I saw you when you did this
- 40:07Speaker 11: against this team or that team. So that'll be a
- 40:10Speaker 11: lot of fun to hear, especially at the sports cards
- 40:13Speaker 11: show and everything. Speaking of professional team State, I will
- 40:16Speaker 11: not I'd be amiss without saying, what do you think
- 40:21Speaker 11: of our cowboys this year?
- 40:22Speaker 4: And how far are they going to super Bowl, buddy,
- 40:24Speaker 4: super Bowl.
- 40:26Speaker 11: Oh God, bless you well.
- 40:29Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I'm using that as a very
- 40:32Speaker 4: loose term. Now, I don't know what's going to We
- 40:34Speaker 4: got a new head coach, and you know, we brought
- 40:37Speaker 4: in a backup quarterback for when Dak gets hurt and
- 40:39Speaker 4: we thought was going to light the world on fire.
- 40:42Speaker 4: And he's not done a whole lot in preseason, but
- 40:43Speaker 4: it is preseason. We opened up again in two weeks,
- 40:47Speaker 4: two weeks from last night in Philadelphia, the defending Super
- 40:50Speaker 4: Bowl champions. So who knows what's going to happen with
- 40:52Speaker 4: the Cowboys. But Hope Springs Eternal, Man, Hope Springs Eternal,
- 40:56Speaker 4: give us all the details on the big event that
- 40:59Speaker 4: you got tomorrow. G recap it.
- 41:01Speaker 11: Okay, So the Nitro Youth League Football League, Youth Football
- 41:05Speaker 11: League will be getting underway tomorrow. We'll have the parade
- 41:09Speaker 11: from the area the put In area for the boat
- 41:15Speaker 11: ramp area for Nitro. It'll go down Main Street, a
- 41:18Speaker 11: couple side streets, end up at Underwood Field that starts
- 41:21Speaker 11: at eleven o'clock. Coin flip for the first game around
- 41:24Speaker 11: twelve o'clock or so. Then we're gonna get major over
- 41:26Speaker 11: to the Nitro Sports Card Show which is going on
- 41:29Speaker 11: in the Commons area of Nitro High School, and that
- 41:34Speaker 11: the card show itself is from ten until four. Major
- 41:36Speaker 11: will be there from twelve thirty one o'clock till about
- 41:38Speaker 11: three o'clock or so, so sign an autograph saying hi
- 41:41Speaker 11: to everybody. So it's just gonna be a fun day
- 41:43Speaker 11: for everybody here in Nitrol on Saturday.

- 44:52Speaker 4: Welcome to the show. Talk about what's what's you got
- 44:56Speaker 4: going on here with jams and jellies. You had me
- 44:58Speaker 4: at jams and jelly.
- 44:59Speaker 14: I know, right, who doesn't a good jam or jelly,
- 45:01Speaker 14: especially in the morning. So tomorrow actually is the twenty
- 45:04Speaker 14: twenty five jam Off. We're back by popular demand, if
- 45:07Speaker 14: you will. So the very first jam Off happened in
- 45:09Speaker 14: twenty twenty three during my time at Tutor's Biscuit World,
- 45:12Speaker 14: used to be their marketing director, and so the event
- 45:15Speaker 14: was founded as a Make a Wish event to celebrate
- 45:18Speaker 14: the partnerships long or the two brands partnerships long lasting relationship.
- 45:23Speaker 14: And yeah, I brought it back this year with my
- 45:26Speaker 14: own small business. I'm super excited to get to be
- 45:29Speaker 14: hosting it and you know, bringing it back, allowing this
- 45:31Speaker 14: platform to be here for the jam and jelly makers,
- 45:34Speaker 14: and we're gonna we're gonna try some jams and jellies tomorrow.
- 45:37Speaker 4: So it's a capital market, that capital market from.
- 45:39Speaker 14: Ten am till two pm. We've got over twenty different
- 45:43Speaker 14: jams and jellies to sample. We did things a little
- 45:46Speaker 14: differently this year, so there's gonna be multiple different types
- 45:49Speaker 14: of vessels. People are going to be trying them on.
- 45:50Speaker 14: So you might see some crackers, you might see some bread,
- 45:53Speaker 14: some biscuits, different types of things. But we're gonna have
- 45:56Speaker 14: we have an amateur division and a commercial division, and
- 45:59Speaker 14: we're gonna have a jug just panel that votes our
- 46:01Speaker 14: first place prize winners. They're each going to get five
- 46:03Speaker 14: hundred dollars. And then we're also going to have a
- 46:05Speaker 14: People's Choice and a Wish Kid's Choice, so the public
- 46:08Speaker 14: can come out, they can buy tasting tickets, try and
- 46:10Speaker 14: sample some of their favorite jams and jellies, even buy
- 46:13Speaker 14: a couple if they like them. And then at the
- 46:16Speaker 14: very end of it, we're going to do the award
- 46:17Speaker 14: ceremony and let everybody know who won.
- 46:19Speaker 4: And again, this is going to be a benefit.
- 46:22Speaker 3: Yes, it all goes to make a wish.
- 46:23Speaker 14: So the event was originally created as a fundraiser and
- 46:27Speaker 14: I always want to help out our community, especially the kiddos,
- 46:30Speaker 14: as much as possible.
- 46:31Speaker 4: And I'll tell you, you know you see these stories
- 46:35Speaker 4: with Make a Wish around the country and they are
- 46:37Speaker 4: very very touching because some of these kids that I mean,
- 46:40Speaker 4: they that they reach for the stars and other ones
- 46:43Speaker 4: just want just want simple things.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Yeah, some of them.
- 46:46Speaker 14: Stories, absolutely, some of them you know, want the grand things,
- 46:48Speaker 14: and some of them just want to have a fun experience.
- 46:51Speaker 14: So we actually are able to provide a great experience
- 46:54Speaker 14: for some of these children. We have a Wish Kids panel,
- 46:56Speaker 14: so they get to go around, taste and judge some
- 46:59Speaker 14: of the gams, jellies, and then Wish Kids Choice is
- 47:02Speaker 14: what's awarded for that. So very happy about the community support.
- 47:07Speaker 14: Couldn't be more thankful for you know, all of the
- 47:09Speaker 14: people who are participating helped sponsor, donate and everything. But yeah,
- 47:14Speaker 14: we're looking for a great time. We're gonna have live
- 47:15Speaker 14: music as well. We've got local West Virginia country rock
- 47:19Speaker 14: artist Brandon Laxton. He's going to be playing some music
- 47:22Speaker 14: for us during the event. We'll have a silent auction,
- 47:25Speaker 14: we'll have some T shirts for sale, some water, and
- 47:28Speaker 14: we're expecting a good turnout, so come out and see us.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Now, you said there's going to be an amateur division
- 47:33Speaker 4: in one for more commercial type folks. Can they still
- 47:35Speaker 4: sign up for that or is it too late at
- 47:37Speaker 4: this point?
- 47:37Speaker 14: If you get with me today, I will allow it today,
- 47:40Speaker 14: probably up until five o'clock today. If you want to
- 47:44Speaker 14: hurry and scurry.
- 47:45Speaker 4: What's the best way to reach you?
- 47:46Speaker 14: So the best way to reach me is by email probably,
- 47:49Speaker 14: which is Liz Martin LLC at gmail dot com. We
- 47:52Speaker 14: also have a Facebook page that I'm monitoring pretty actively
- 47:55Speaker 14: right now, so if you want to send us a message,
- 47:57Speaker 14: feel free to do so. That's just twenty twenty five
- 47:59Speaker 14: jam off. You can find out all sorts of information
- 48:01Speaker 14: on there as well, all the details about some of
- 48:03Speaker 14: the silent auction items, some of our contestants that are
- 48:06Speaker 14: going to be there. Our judges panel, we do have
- 48:09Speaker 14: Hannah Kleine from w HS TV. We've got Stephen Keith,
- 48:13Speaker 14: the guy, the food guest, who else could you get right,
- 48:16Speaker 14: He's got to be there. And then of course we've
- 48:18Speaker 14: got Candice Nelson from the Capital Market. So we've got
- 48:21Speaker 14: a wonderful Yeah, she's wonderful. She has been such a
- 48:24Speaker 14: huge help and just helping organize and plan the event.
- 48:27Speaker 14: And although you know, my business is the one who's
- 48:30Speaker 14: coming and bringing this to the public. It really is
- 48:32Speaker 14: a team effort, and I'm so thankful for the help
- 48:34Speaker 14: and the people that have been involved.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Now, as somebody that considers themselves a food guy, I
- 48:38Speaker 4: think it's interesting because you know, I'm my background is
- 48:41Speaker 4: a whole lot more rural than Charleston. Uh And but
- 48:44Speaker 4: I can remember, you know, every year, my grandparents, my
- 48:47Speaker 4: aunts and you know whatever, canning jellies.
- 48:50Speaker 3: But it was it was good.
- 48:52Speaker 4: But it's pretty simple, you know, it was great. It
- 48:54Speaker 4: was strawberry apple, whatever the case. Maybe this has become
- 48:58Speaker 4: a major deal with all these exotic flavors, not only
- 49:01Speaker 4: here in apple Atcha, but all over the country.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Really, yeah, there are I.
- 49:05Speaker 14: Was very novice in the jam of the world of jams,
- 49:08Speaker 14: if you will, before I kind of got involved in this,
- 49:10Speaker 14: and I have learned so much. There are so many
- 49:13Speaker 14: different flavors that I wouldn't have even fathomed. I mean,
- 49:16Speaker 14: we've got an elderberry elixir that's going to be there.
- 49:19Speaker 14: We've got a peach hob andara that's going to be there.
- 49:22Speaker 14: We definitely have some of your wonderful basics, like your
- 49:25Speaker 14: grapes and your raspberries, but we've also got like some watermelon,
- 49:29Speaker 14: which is a little unique. And we've got all kinds
- 49:32Speaker 14: of different flavors, so there's a there's a really great
- 49:35Speaker 14: variety to try. And these people take a lot of
- 49:38Speaker 14: pride in what they do. They're wonderful at what they do. So,
- 49:41Speaker 14: I mean, twenty twenty three, the jams and jellies were amazing.
- 49:44Speaker 14: I'm just so excited to see what this year has
- 49:46Speaker 14: in store for it, how it all tastes. I didn't
- 49:48Speaker 14: get to sample really any in twenty twenty three. I
- 49:51Speaker 14: just heard from word of mouth, and I think I
- 49:52Speaker 14: maybe tried one because I was just busy. So this
- 49:54Speaker 14: year it is a priority. I will be trying those
- 49:57Speaker 14: jams and jellies. I will not be walking out without
- 49:59Speaker 14: a taste.
- 50:00Speaker 4: Now you gotta have it. And you mentioned the peach hoabinnio.
- 50:02Speaker 4: I've got my wife and I have a very good
- 50:03Speaker 4: friend of ours who's originally from this area but lives
- 50:06Speaker 4: in Indiana now, and anytime that she comes in to
- 50:09Speaker 4: visit family, oh yeah, I get the peachab good stuff.
- 50:12Speaker 4: It's good stuff. What's the most exotic jelly? You mentioned
- 50:15Speaker 4: some of the elder elderberry, but even outside this realm
- 50:19Speaker 4: what's some of the most exotic ones You've know some
- 50:22Speaker 4: of them.
- 50:22Speaker 14: That I've heard, And this is honestly from last year,
- 50:25Speaker 14: which unfortunately they weren't able to They ended up not
- 50:28Speaker 14: being able to compete. But we had some like onion marmalades.
- 50:31Speaker 4: And I mean I'd try it.
- 50:33Speaker 14: Yeah, I would absolutely try it. I would never turn
- 50:36Speaker 14: it down. Like I said, We've got the elderberry elixir,
- 50:38Speaker 14: which I'm really excited to try this year. I know
- 50:42Speaker 14: that there were some I'm trying to think that because
- 50:45Speaker 14: there's been so many flavors, they kind of all it's
- 50:48Speaker 14: amazing how many flavors there really are. But yeah, there's
- 50:52Speaker 14: there's wild berry mixes mixed with some pepper jellies. It's
- 50:55Speaker 14: just delicious, all right.
- 50:56Speaker 4: They give us, give us all the details again.
- 50:59Speaker 14: Yeah, so you can find the most information on us
- 51:01Speaker 14: on Facebook. It's twenty twenty five jam off real simple there.
- 51:05Speaker 14: If you want to reach out and get involved in
- 51:08Speaker 14: the event, either volunteer, sign up a jam and jelly,
- 51:10Speaker 14: contact me directly at Liz MARTINLLC at gmail dot com,
- 51:15Speaker 14: or again, you can message me on Facebook. I have
