- 0:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm ready for a good sexy chili autumn.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Let's bring on the coziness of autumn. Yeah. I think
- 0:34Speaker 2: the chicks have probably heard us winge.
- 0:36Speaker 1: About sorry Chip like Muggy Weather for about seventy two years.
- 0:41Speaker 2: If you're in Sydney, you get it, get it. It's
- 0:44Speaker 2: a week been what's the tea? Yeah, it's been good.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I mean Harry Styles was wearing alf.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Ears this week, so obviously it's been a great week
- 0:53Speaker 1: for me. That felt very targeted. That's my high Lord
- 0:58Speaker 1: of the night Court. Yeah, I was going, well, I
- 1:01Speaker 1: was going more Lord of the Rings of course, naturally.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Bar two sides are the same coin.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, if any of the chicks missed it, obviously,
- 1:10Speaker 1: Harry Styles was on the Royal Court with Britney Broski
- 1:14Speaker 1: and god, she's good, She's she's good. She needs race.
- 1:18Speaker 1: She could have chemistry with a slice of bread. But
- 1:21Speaker 1: he was great. He was really like bouncing off her.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I haven't watched it yet. I've been saving it.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I've been saving it for like a good I want
- 1:30Speaker 1: to sit down and watch it. Yeah, I might save
- 1:32Speaker 1: it for when I'm doing my makeup tomorrow.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Love that good idea.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I mean when I mean I'm saving it,
- 1:37Speaker 1: Like when I sit down to do my makeup, I'm like,
- 1:39Speaker 1: what do I want to watch on YouTube?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah? How was your week? Mark was good?
- 1:44Speaker 1: This week we've had not one but two people by
- 1:47Speaker 1: our screen Cordial from our last episode, which and Chippies
- 1:53Speaker 1: Too Doodles Wow and double coated Tim Dams. So I'm
- 1:57Speaker 1: pretty sure got about them the best team in the
- 2:00Speaker 1: ty Well, we're so lucky. That's the way to our
- 2:02Speaker 1: baby girls, I know. And like Brianna, our producer, came
- 2:07Speaker 1: in this morning and was like, I got your present.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I was like, give it to me. My reaction is no,
- 2:13Speaker 2: should have a like, I want it totally.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Other people would be like March maybe you know things
- 2:21Speaker 3: that are more like sophisticated, and we're.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Like, no, green Cordial girl.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Like I am I have like the iced coffee, the
- 2:29Speaker 1: coke zero, the soda stream and now the green cordial
- 2:31Speaker 1: on the rotation. Oh yeah, yeah, like you need a
- 2:34Speaker 1: drink minem me, let's go totally. I need to be
- 2:39Speaker 1: placated by some kind of beverage at all times.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah the dope for mean here of what as you will? Okay, Well,
- 2:49Speaker 2: today we.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Are back for our seasonal episode that every time the
- 2:54Speaker 1: season changes.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Over, we share our hot Chick.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Autumn or summer or winter, whatever it is checklist, So
- 3:01Speaker 1: naturally we're locked in for autumn. We sure baby or
- 3:05Speaker 1: fall fall. For any Northern Hemisphere listeners, fall they get
- 3:11Speaker 1: the best autumn they do. I wish like the Southern
- 3:15Speaker 1: Hemisphere locked into autumn a little bit more.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I feel like you need to go to certain parts
- 3:19Speaker 3: of the Southern Hemisphere to get that.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Like Canberra, I feel like really gives a good yes, beautiful.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Give a good autumn.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Hobart, Yeah, I could see that, definitely, Hunter Valley, Beautiful
- 3:32Speaker 3: New Zealand as well, incredible yees.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But before we get into it, so I need to
- 3:37Speaker 1: know what's your obsession of the week.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I hate the song ha do we do the song?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Okay, these are sessions down, just put like
- 3:51Speaker 1: a jingle behind it to help.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, we should make like a sting. Yeah, oh yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I know. I was going to make fun of you
- 3:58Speaker 1: for it, but then I was like, now, like she
- 4:00Speaker 1: was going to make fun of herself.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Just knocked it up and you hit it out of
- 4:04Speaker 1: a part for yourself. My obsession of the week is
- 4:07Speaker 1: that the celebrities are wearing wigs.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, do you wear wigs? When will you wear wigs?
- 4:14Speaker 1: So?
- 4:14Speaker 3: The Cut published an article this week with the headline, actually,
- 4:18Speaker 3: that's a week, And I think a lot of us
- 4:21Speaker 3: know that celebrities wear wigs, Like when we think about it,
- 4:25Speaker 3: we're probably reminded of Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga. Beyonce has
- 4:30Speaker 3: sported some beautiful weeks throughout her career.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Kim K Yeah, Kim K definitely. But apparently a lot
- 4:38Speaker 1: of celebrities are wearing wigs that we may not think
- 4:42Speaker 1: are weeks.
- 4:44Speaker 2: And have you noticed that speculation.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Around is it a wig? He has really popped off
- 4:49Speaker 3: over the last year.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I've seen this with the actress who was in I
- 4:54Speaker 1: Love La Yes, so Odessa asi On So she was
- 4:59Speaker 1: in Marty Sopre with Timothy Chalomey. So she was doing
- 5:02Speaker 1: like a lot of press and stuff for that, and
- 5:04Speaker 1: she has these amazing curls, and so a lot of
- 5:08Speaker 1: people have been speculating that's a wig. And apparently one
- 5:12Speaker 1: of them was a wig, and it was the hair
- 5:14Speaker 1: that she was sporting at the La Premiere. But that
- 5:17Speaker 1: was actually more of an.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Old Hollywood style curl rather than like the tight coils that.
- 5:23Speaker 2: She usually wears. But I thought that was really interesting.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Sabrina Carpenter sometimes well, there's also speculation that Sabrina Carpenter does,
- 5:31Speaker 1: especially on her tours, and she sort of coyly responded
- 5:36Speaker 1: when she's been asked about it, being like, I don't
- 5:37Speaker 1: know what a wig is.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I've never seen a.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Wig like kind of vibe And even another Harry Styles
- 5:43Speaker 3: mentioned even in the Royal Court episode, he makes a
- 5:47Speaker 3: joke about his hairline.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yes, I've seen this one, yeah, which.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Is wig adjacent, because you know, there's been speculation that
- 5:54Speaker 3: he's had a hair raison.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Was not a home that I thought would be coming
- 5:58Speaker 1: up on the podcast today, But.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Into it, you know how I be? I'm into it. Yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 3: But also apparently like Nicole Kidman, was wearing a wig
- 6:06Speaker 3: to the met Gala, I think last year or the
- 6:08Speaker 3: year before, and she was sporting like a pixie cut.
- 6:11Speaker 3: And Emma Stone as well has also been talking about
- 6:14Speaker 3: how she wears wigs right, And I thought it was
- 6:16Speaker 3: so interesting because a lot of us probably take celebrity
- 6:20Speaker 3: photos to the salon as our hairs or when we're
- 6:23Speaker 3: getting a hairstyled, and it's like, Mama.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That's a week. That's a week. That's a wig.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Wow, But like, can't we also think that with basically anything,
- 6:33Speaker 1: celebrities do the comparison trap of someone with.
- 6:36Speaker 2: A million dollars. Yeah, they're hot, but they're also rich. Yeah,
- 6:42Speaker 2: great reminder. It's always a good yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 2: And it was funny because when Odessa was.
- 6:48Speaker 1: As we are we about to get weird about shit
- 6:51Speaker 1: like that, they'd been like, I like.
- 6:52Speaker 2: It to be transparent if you were wearing a wig,
- 6:55Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 6:57Speaker 1: In this article they were interviewing like hairstyle, celebrity hairstyles
- 7:01Speaker 1: and stuff about it as well. I think a lot
- 7:03Speaker 1: of it comes from the fact that, you know, celebrities, actors,
- 7:07Speaker 1: people in the arts are on camera so often that
- 7:11Speaker 1: putting heat on their hair is so bad for their hair,
- 7:15Speaker 1: especially if they're constantly bleaching it or whatever, like the
- 7:18Speaker 1: public eye.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So I think it's a normal thing that people go
- 7:22Speaker 2: to wigs.
- 7:23Speaker 1: In that article, they also quoted Beyonce, who had spoken
- 7:26Speaker 1: about it in the past, and she was like, there's
- 7:28Speaker 1: a misconception that people who wear wigs have like unhealthy
- 7:32Speaker 1: hair underneath. And she was like, but that's not the case.
- 7:34Speaker 1: The whole reason we wear them is so that we
- 7:36Speaker 1: can actual hair.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, I just thought it was really interesting.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Okay, My obsession of the week, yep, my obsession is
- 7:45Speaker 1: the feud between Mecha Sephora and MCO Beauty Juicy.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a messy bit she lives first some drama.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 7:56Speaker 1: So only when it's not in my life and it's
- 7:58Speaker 1: with corporations, all celebrities from the two thousands. Okay, so
- 8:02Speaker 1: the Meccha, Sephora and mc beauty feud explained. I'm about
- 8:06Speaker 1: to tell you something though that you don't know about.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Oh fuck, I know something you don't know none.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Late last year, rumors were swirling that Hourglass Cosmetics, which
- 8:19Speaker 1: is like a viral brand, was leaving Mecca for Sephora,
- 8:24Speaker 1: and it had been stocked at Mecca for sixteen years.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Samn Our Glass had been at Mecca since twenty ten,
- 8:32Speaker 1: so they'd been with Mecha for a really long time,
- 8:34Speaker 1: so for them to move to Sephora was escandalor big deal.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Right fast forward to this year, both Meccha and Sephora
- 8:42Speaker 1: have had two really huge launchers. Mecha who officially started
- 8:46Speaker 1: stocking Road Beauty, which is founded by Hailey Bieber in February.
- 8:51Speaker 1: On the twelfth of February they officially started stocking, and
- 8:54Speaker 1: then Sephora this week, on the twenty sixth of February,
- 8:58Speaker 1: launched our Glass in store and on as the official stockist.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Here's where the messy bitch behavior comes into it. Mecca
- 9:07Speaker 1: decided to restock the sold out limited edition Puff Beauty
- 9:14Speaker 1: bag on the day of the Sephora Hourglass launch.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So there's also rumor swelling that they actually pushed this
- 9:24Speaker 1: restock date back to be on the same day as
- 9:28Speaker 1: a Sephorah Hourglass launch, so that both the brands had
- 9:33Speaker 1: really big launches on the same day.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Like that, that's a rumor that they pushed it to
- 9:38Speaker 2: be the same day.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Here's where the MC beauty taps into the equation.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Yesterday, MC beauty decided to launch a copy of the
- 9:51Speaker 2: Road Beauty Bag. And this bag is like.
- 9:54Speaker 1: A puff sleeve laptop clutch thing which retails for eighty
- 9:59Speaker 1: three dollars, which which.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I'm like, unsubscribed.
- 10:02Speaker 1: But MC beauty sent out an EGM with a essentially
- 10:07Speaker 1: a pink copy of this baby blue Road Bag, and
- 10:11Speaker 1: they also launched a copy of the Glazing Milk with
- 10:14Speaker 1: an influencer campaign on the day of the road launch.
- 10:18Speaker 1: So everyone's here going, oh, well, if you're doing that
- 10:22Speaker 1: on that day, then I'm going to do it on
- 10:23Speaker 1: that day too.
- 10:25Speaker 2: But here's where it gets crazy.
- 10:27Speaker 1: So there was an it was a TikTok comment that
- 10:29Speaker 1: I saw and I went, no fucking way, MC beauty
- 10:32Speaker 1: keeps launching.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Road dupes or copies.
- 10:36Speaker 1: But MCO Beauty did a collab with Hailey Biber in
- 10:39Speaker 1: twenty sixteen.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yeah, no way, Yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 1: MC beauty did a collection with Haley Biber or Baldwin
- 10:48Speaker 1: back in twenty sixteen, and it was literally called Hailey
- 10:52Speaker 1: Baldwin for Model co Whoa, And it consisted of twenty
- 10:56Speaker 1: one products, which was highlight, mascars, bronzes, eyeliners, eyebrow.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Kits lip products.
- 11:06Speaker 1: There's photos of the former CEO of m CO formerly
- 11:10Speaker 1: Model Co, and Haley together.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I'm really surprised that more people don't bring that up,
- 11:16Speaker 3: even just in conversation around Road and Hailey Baber's like
- 11:20Speaker 3: beauty Empire.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I agree. Yeah.
- 11:24Speaker 1: So my question is, like the beauty world is just
- 11:28Speaker 1: very messy at the moment. Is it just business or
- 11:31Speaker 1: is it getting petty? Yeah?
- 11:33Speaker 3: And also like as a consumer, I'm bored, Like, yes,
- 11:37Speaker 3: I'm titillated.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Oh you love that word for.
- 11:42Speaker 1: The drama and the tea, But as a consumer, I'm like,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I don't want a ripoff of the roadbag.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I want you to make your own, like its make
- 11:51Speaker 2: something you need.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's so boring, but I just all of
- 11:55Speaker 1: it in terms of like the red string on a
- 11:57Speaker 1: whiteboard of like m CO launching the Edition bag. We're
- 12:01Speaker 1: relaunching the limited edition bag on the same day as.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The four Hour Glass launch.
- 12:07Speaker 1: M CO releasing copies of the Glazy Milk on the
- 12:10Speaker 1: day of the road launch.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Do you know what I want to know?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Who's the girl gayl They doing the insider trading, spilling
- 12:19Speaker 3: the tea to the others being like.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Say, guess what, we're launching this on this day, because
- 12:23Speaker 4: I'm like, how did m CO know that Mecha was
- 12:28Speaker 4: launching the sold out bags on that data?
- 12:31Speaker 1: Maybe they just locked it in and they were like
- 12:33Speaker 1: whenever it goes like, they're like they had it ready.
- 12:36Speaker 1: They were like, had their finger over the red button.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Likes the button. Yeah, I don't know. That is what
- 12:43Speaker 2: I take a cake of feelings and everyone can just
- 12:46Speaker 2: get along. Yeah, That's what I'm like. Is it just business?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Is it like well yeah? Is it messy and petty?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Well, when it just like continuously happens, I'm like, it
- 12:57Speaker 1: feels gross.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I think they influencer campaign on the day of the
- 13:00Speaker 2: road launch was a rogue choice.
- 13:03Speaker 1: But I'm like, okay, doesn't have anything to do with
- 13:05Speaker 1: me exactly, And at the end of the day, people
- 13:07Speaker 1: can make their own decisions of what they want to
- 13:09Speaker 1: buy and where they want to buy, because I completely
- 13:12Speaker 1: understand the fact that eighty three dollars for a puff
- 13:15Speaker 1: sleeve laptop case essentially is a steep, steep price totally,
- 13:21Speaker 1: but you're paying for the logo. Yeah, oh yeah, that
- 13:25Speaker 1: MC beauty did a club with Hailey Bowlings.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I really want to.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I want to go back and look at the pic.
- 13:30Speaker 3: So just because I'm sure they're Peak twenty sixteen.
- 13:32Speaker 2: They're amazing, They're ten out of ten. Let's get into
- 13:35Speaker 2: the episode, all right, launch it. Okay.
- 13:39Speaker 1: So the first piece of agenda on our autumn Hot
- 13:42Speaker 1: Chick checklist is the March Theory.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I'm excited. Do you know what this is?
- 13:48Speaker 1: No? And I purposely didn't look it up because I
- 13:50Speaker 1: wanted to be titillated.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Oh did I use it in the right context? You did? Okay,
- 13:54Speaker 2: you did.
- 13:55Speaker 3: So you're not alone because we polled our audience to
- 13:59Speaker 3: see if they believe in the March theory.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Both even knew what it was.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and ninety seven percent of the chicks didn't know
- 14:05Speaker 3: what it was, which I thought was really interesting because
- 14:09Speaker 3: the March theory went completely viral on TikTok last year.
- 14:14Speaker 3: So it is kind of old news in the industry world.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Show how everything we watch online were like hap right?
- 14:23Speaker 1: Literally okay literally, and only two percent of the chicks
- 14:30Speaker 1: knew what the March theory was.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So WHOA, yeah, I know. Crazy. So I'll give you
- 14:35Speaker 2: a little TLDR.
- 14:37Speaker 3: So the March theory labels a month as a time
- 14:40Speaker 3: to either leave unfulfilling relationships or start new ones.
- 14:46Speaker 2: It's a breakup theory exactly. Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so essentially it labels March as a time for
- 14:55Speaker 1: new beginnings or farewells. Yeah, which I thought was really
- 14:59Speaker 1: really interesting because we know that December eleventh is breakup day, Yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 1: the most popular day for breakups of the whole year.
- 15:07Speaker 1: But according to relationship and dating coach Angelika Kosh, many
- 15:11Speaker 1: unhappy couples delay their breakups until after Valentine's Day. Oh
- 15:17Speaker 1: that makes sense. Yeah, so when you think about it,
- 15:21Speaker 1: because December eleventh was, you know, like three months ago now.
- 15:24Speaker 2: But the eleventh of December.
- 15:27Speaker 1: People break up on the eleventh of December is because
- 15:29Speaker 1: they don't want to do Christmas with the significant other.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Because people don't want to be alone on Valentine's Day.
- 15:35Speaker 1: It's more romance or maybe that's when it all goes yeah, true,
- 15:41Speaker 1: Like you have like what you didn't get me a gift?
- 15:44Speaker 2: I WoT you this and.
- 15:45Speaker 1: You go and I can buy myself flowers, I can
- 15:47Speaker 1: hold my own hair exactly, talking to myself to hours
- 15:51Speaker 1: say things you don't understand. I need Spotify to release
- 15:55Speaker 1: data of like the songs that are played on Valentine's Day.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Fuck yeah, like the difference between.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Like the breakup literally and then like let's get it old. Yeah,
- 16:07Speaker 1: So I thought that was interesting. But also, just like
- 16:10Speaker 1: a lot of these viral TikTok theories, I will say
- 16:13Speaker 1: that it is also quite Northern Hemisphere centric.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Yeah, because March in.
- 16:19Speaker 1: The Southern Hemisphere signals going into autumn and the cooler months,
- 16:24Speaker 1: whereas in the Northern Hemisphere its signals going into spring
- 16:28Speaker 1: and the summer months, aka the end of cuffing season.
- 16:32Speaker 2: So I think a lot of people also season.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so the end of cuffing season because a lot
- 16:39Speaker 1: of people will leave relationships as you go into the
- 16:44Speaker 1: summer months because you're like more free, you don't need
- 16:47Speaker 1: to stay inside and be cuddled, Like, there's more social
- 16:50Speaker 1: engagements and activities. So I do think that there are
- 16:54Speaker 1: some holes in this theory, just like all theories that
- 16:58Speaker 1: are on the internet and that go viral on TikTok,
- 17:01Speaker 1: But I do think that there are some points of
- 17:03Speaker 1: merit to it as well that I think we can
- 17:06Speaker 1: apply to our Hot Chick Autumn checklist. So in Australia,
- 17:11Speaker 1: March is the second most popular season to move house.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Love that. Yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 1: May is also one of the best times to apply
- 17:19Speaker 1: for a new job because of increased job listings and
- 17:22Speaker 1: lower competition. But I also think that January and February
- 17:27Speaker 1: aren't real months.
- 17:28Speaker 2: No, no, no, what you do in January and February
- 17:30Speaker 2: does not count, right.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I can't be held accountable for anything I do in
- 17:35Speaker 1: January of February.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Fact, your best friend's brother in January. February, you didn't.
- 17:39Speaker 2: We can't robbed a bank, No you didn't. It's February.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Spent all my money on the road collection January and February.
- 17:46Speaker 2: That was February May.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Sorry, I don't know what your boss a bitch and
- 17:49Speaker 1: accidentally send it to our own slack January and February, Right,
- 17:53Speaker 1: I think that.
- 17:53Speaker 2: The year truly begins in March, fully seventy ten. It's
- 17:57Speaker 2: because when you get to March, you can write the date.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I was just going to say that, you are so right,
- 18:04Speaker 2: You're so right. You're so sad over that.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and every new season is an excuse to have
- 18:11Speaker 3: a fresh start.
- 18:11Speaker 2: We said, rebrand and rebrand and reset, because why the
- 18:15Speaker 2: fuck not, Why the fuck not?
- 18:17Speaker 1: So's every week and so is every month and every
- 18:20Speaker 1: month and a Sunday.
- 18:22Speaker 2: And it's raining and it's cold and you get to
- 18:26Speaker 2: pull out your like cool coats. Yeah, and I just
- 18:29Speaker 2: want to wear a blazer and jeans. Right, That's all
- 18:31Speaker 2: a girl once.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Literally, And I do think that autumn is one of
- 18:37Speaker 3: the most underrated seasons of the American I concur and
- 18:41Speaker 3: the chicks feel the same because we also asked that
- 18:43Speaker 3: question and seventy seven percent of people think that autumn
- 18:46Speaker 3: is an underrated season.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Autumn is the best right for me.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I believe it goes spring, autumn, summer, winter. Oh okay, yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 1: that's my ranking. I know yours is probably winter, autumn, spread, summer. Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 19:03Speaker 1: our next order of business on the autumn checklist. Autumn
- 19:06Speaker 1: is the season of embracing rituals. Now, have you seen
- 19:10Speaker 1: how rituals has kind of become a little bit of
- 19:13Speaker 1: a buzzword at the moment?
- 19:15Speaker 2: Oh, give me some examples.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I've just seen a lot of people, you know, talking
- 19:19Speaker 1: about their daily rituals, embracing rituals.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And maybe that's also a little.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Bit to do with the fact that it's getting a
- 19:26Speaker 1: little bit cozy. We're getting a little bit witchy.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I was going to say, I've seen a lot around
- 19:30Speaker 3: whimsical rituals.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Exactly exactly and like aligning more to I think it's
- 19:37Speaker 1: more about rituals rather than routine. Yeah, so I think
- 19:42Speaker 1: autumn is more about like soft discipline rather than hardcore motivation.
- 19:48Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Yeah, interview I like that. Yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 2: you like that? You like that? Right, Yeah, you're like that,
- 19:54Speaker 2: you like that? Huh huh.
- 19:56Speaker 1: So I actually found a psychological stuff that talks about
- 20:02Speaker 1: the power of embracing rituals and like the difference between
- 20:06Speaker 1: rituals and routine because essentially, what I'm trying to say
- 20:10Speaker 1: with this is like, these are not rules. These are
- 20:13Speaker 1: not things you have to do, but they're things that
- 20:15Speaker 1: you do because it fulfills you and it doesn't actually
- 20:19Speaker 1: focus on changing what's happening around you, which at the
- 20:22Speaker 1: moment I think is really important because shit be crazy. Yeah. So,
- 20:28Speaker 1: a twenty seventeen review called The Psychology of Rituals argues
- 20:32Speaker 1: that rituals may not change the external world.
- 20:35Speaker 2: But they powerfully regulate our internal one, which I'm like,
- 20:39Speaker 2: sign me up on the wait list. Let's rock and roll.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So the researchers define rituals as structured, repetitive, rule bound
- 20:46Speaker 1: actions that are symbolic and not directly instrumental. In other words,
- 20:51Speaker 1: they're meaningful and oftenly casually opaque.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Oh okay, I'm into that right, Yeah damn.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So think like pregame routines, ceremonies, and even the very
- 21:03Speaker 1: specific way you make your morning coffee before a big day.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Their framework suggests that rituals serve three major psychological functions.
- 21:12Speaker 2: So number one is that they regulate emotion.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Rituals are especially likely to emerge during anxiety, uncertainty, or stress,
- 21:21Speaker 1: and studies show that people who turn to ritualistic behavior
- 21:25Speaker 1: when they feel a loss of control and performing rituals
- 21:28Speaker 1: can measurably reduce anxiety, grief, and psychological arousal.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Which I really hated that word being. Yeah, it's giving titillated.
- 21:38Speaker 2: It's giving titillated, but not in a good way. Untitled, untitled,
- 21:42Speaker 2: I am unt tittled, I'm untitled, you've untitled me? Not
- 21:46Speaker 2: long at titles undone my titles anyway. Continue.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So, the repetitive, structured actions focus attention and create a
- 21:54Speaker 1: sense of order, which is labeled as meaningful, and the
- 21:57Speaker 1: effect strengthens so it allows you to kind of focus
- 22:01Speaker 1: on the things that you can control and that means
- 22:04Speaker 1: something to you.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Which I think is nice because it does give that
- 22:09Speaker 1: different outlook rather than like the fucking seventy five hard
- 22:13Speaker 1: right total that it's like looking at rituals is like
- 22:15Speaker 1: something that you create that a personal to you.
- 22:17Speaker 2: What's your daily ritual.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Rather than like, here's the seven rules that you have
- 22:22Speaker 1: to follow each day, including seven hundred leaders of water
- 22:26Speaker 1: and a billion steps and don't even look at a
- 22:29Speaker 1: chocolate bar because then.
- 22:31Speaker 2: That makes you bad person, you know, devil. Now.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Number two in this study is that they regulate performance goals.
- 22:38Speaker 2: So rituals don't just calm you, they prime you.
- 22:42Speaker 1: So pre performance rituals can improve focus, self control, and confidence.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Completing a ritual successfully signals competence to yourself, increasing self
- 22:51Speaker 1: efficiency and before the real task begins. So if you're
- 22:55Speaker 1: doing something you know work wise, or you're trying something new,
- 22:59Speaker 1: having a ritual before or something that you know maybe
- 23:01Speaker 1: you're not super confident in, or maybe you're a little
- 23:03Speaker 1: bit more nervous about, like if you're going to a
- 23:06Speaker 1: birthday party and you don't really know that many people
- 23:09Speaker 1: having some sort of ritual within that can actually prepare
- 23:13Speaker 1: you better and make you more excited and calmer and
- 23:15Speaker 1: confident within it and feel more like yourself to one
- 23:18Speaker 1: thousand percent, I feel like it's a very grounding experience.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And then number three is that they regulate social connection,
- 23:26Speaker 1: so collective rituals, which.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I was like, yes, giving witchcraft.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So the study examples listed things like, you know, protests,
- 23:36Speaker 1: religious ceremonies, and even team chance yeah yeah, which like
- 23:40Speaker 1: bring back you know the sports house you were in
- 23:44Speaker 1: at the swimming carnival. Yeah, blue, If I was green,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I would.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I was blue, a ritual that was a chance? Yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Blue was always at the top of my ladder at
- 23:56Speaker 1: my high school and both my private schools.
- 23:58Speaker 2: No, it went red, blue, green, yellow. Obviously it's different.
- 24:01Speaker 1: You don't say unfortunately, that's the rule.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I do believe the internet will agree. Yeah, which yellow
- 24:10Speaker 2: in notoriously sucked.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Green was there for the vibes, and then blue and
- 24:15Speaker 1: red always had rivalry.
- 24:17Speaker 3: That says more than any personality test. What color house
- 24:21Speaker 3: were you in for school sport? And if you were
- 24:24Speaker 3: in yellow, how are you doing?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah, So collective rituals can increase bonding, cooperation and trust
- 24:30Speaker 1: with shared attention and synchronized movement creating emotional alignment, while
- 24:35Speaker 1: participation signals loyalty and group identity. So you can even
- 24:40Speaker 1: look at things like this, like doing a Taco Tuesday
- 24:42Speaker 1: with your besties, or I don't know if you did this,
- 24:45Speaker 1: but when like Game of Thrones really got to its
- 24:48Speaker 1: crux and every Monday you would like have Game of
- 24:51Speaker 1: Thrones watching parties, or recently, how the geelies would do
- 24:56Speaker 1: the summer I turned pretty watching parties. Like those are
- 25:00Speaker 1: things and examples of rituals that you can embrace collectively
- 25:04Speaker 1: with people that help to just enhance and create magic
- 25:08Speaker 1: in the season of autumn or any season.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Really.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yeah, so true, but I think especially in autumn as
- 25:14Speaker 1: we go into the cooler months, because a lot of
- 25:16Speaker 1: people do experience seasonal depression and like just low moods
- 25:21Speaker 1: as we go into the cooler seasons because there is
- 25:24Speaker 1: just less socializing.
- 25:25Speaker 2: And less light and all of those things.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's like, make a conscious effort to embrace
- 25:30Speaker 3: those rituals or enforce them if you don't have any already,
- 25:34Speaker 3: and see how that can make a huge difference in
- 25:37Speaker 3: your day to day.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I love them.
- 25:39Speaker 1: So the key insight of this study was that rituals
- 25:43Speaker 1: work through a blend of bottom up processes.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I tried not to make a joke.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Then this is like repetition, movement and attention capture, and
- 25:51Speaker 1: then also top down processes like meaning, symbolism, identity signaling.
- 25:56Speaker 2: So when those.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Combine rituals become powerful regular for emotion, motivation, and belonging,
- 26:03Speaker 1: they may not change reality, but they reliably change how
- 26:06Speaker 1: we experience it.
- 26:08Speaker 2: And that has me. I'm like, what are my rituals
- 26:11Speaker 2: for autumn?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Yeah, like my morning coffee is absolutely a ritual, very
- 26:15Speaker 1: boring example, but like I get up, I say good
- 26:19Speaker 1: morning to the cats, and I go and I press
- 26:21Speaker 1: that little button and goes same and.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I do do that, and then I like go to
- 26:27Speaker 3: the bathroom and like do my skin care and stuff
- 26:29Speaker 3: while that's like working.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I do in the bathroom in the morning, and.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Then come back, add the ice and then take it
- 26:36Speaker 1: down and then do my makeup. Yep.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Experience.
- 26:42Speaker 1: So we asked you chicks on Instagram, what are you
- 26:46Speaker 1: shedding this autumn?
- 26:48Speaker 2: Because obviously the leaves.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Are falling, we're shedding our skin all that fun sexy stuff.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Ah.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Someone said, feeling sorry for myself, going to fall in
- 27:00Speaker 1: love with my life again. I feel like that relates
- 27:03Speaker 1: really nicely to the rituals.
- 27:05Speaker 2: I love that.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Okay, I love this shedding the what if mentality in
- 27:09Speaker 1: a negative way instead what if in a positive way? Ah.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I love that what if it all works out? Yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Someone said summer fling roster. I keep them. It's funny,
- 27:21Speaker 2: it's giving the March theory. It's giving March theory.
- 27:24Speaker 1: A lot of people are shedding their shitty ass job
- 27:27Speaker 1: that can fuck right off.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Love that for her unrealistic New Years resolutions, and
- 27:33Speaker 2: that's statistically accurate.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Most people eighty eight percent of people or something like
- 27:37Speaker 1: that don't still do their news resolutions by the end
- 27:40Speaker 1: of February.
- 27:41Speaker 3: My dislike of autumn, time to embrace the cooler weather.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Love that.
- 27:46Speaker 1: And then another cheek has said, clean girl, minimal makeup,
- 27:49Speaker 1: go bold with a red or mulve lip or.
- 27:52Speaker 2: A soft smoky eye.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I do think that more dramatic and fun makeup looks
- 27:57Speaker 1: are definitely coming back around, which we love to see.
- 27:59Speaker 1: A lot of people also said like clutter. And then finally,
- 28:04Speaker 1: and probably on the best note feelings for my ex okay,
- 28:08Speaker 1: And then to wrap up the episodes, shall we get
- 28:12Speaker 1: into our quick fire of fashion and beauty trends for autumn? Now,
- 28:17Speaker 1: as always, these are just trends. You don't have to
- 28:20Speaker 1: subscribe to all of them. If they align with what
- 28:23Speaker 1: you like, then it stuning, amazing, brave. If they're not
- 28:26Speaker 1: for you, then put it in the recycling bin and
- 28:29Speaker 1: keep on going.
- 28:29Speaker 3: I think that autumn fashion is easily one of the
- 28:32Speaker 3: best fashion.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Periods, don't you agree? One thousand percent?
- 28:37Speaker 1: And a big part of it it's not too cold
- 28:39Speaker 1: and it's not too hot.
- 28:41Speaker 2: And all you need is a light jacket, so true.
- 28:45Speaker 1: What is that April twenty third actually applies to autumn
- 28:48Speaker 1: as well, which I love, okay.
- 28:50Speaker 2: But one of the first trends I want to tap
- 28:52Speaker 2: into is pairing bright colors with our autumn favorites.
- 28:56Speaker 1: So a lot of people do think of autumn and
- 28:59Speaker 1: winter fashion and think of deeper, maybe more neutral tones,
- 29:02Speaker 1: and then would reserve fun colors for spring and summer, right,
- 29:06Speaker 1: But we are saying a trend around matching some of
- 29:09Speaker 1: those more fun bright colors with some of those autumn staples,
- 29:12Speaker 1: which I think is really cool.
- 29:14Speaker 2: So examples are teal, which works really well with.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Earthy tones that are typically favored in autumn, like khaki
- 29:22Speaker 3: or camel or cream. Apparently Teal is the forecasting company
- 29:27Speaker 3: WGSN's twenty twenty six Color of.
- 29:30Speaker 1: The Year twenty sixteen is so bare transformative teal.
- 29:34Speaker 2: It's been cold. Wow.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Another trend in color is brown and dark brown. So
- 29:40Speaker 3: data also shows that both of these shades of brown
- 29:43Speaker 3: will have the most significant growth of any color in
- 29:46Speaker 3: twenty twenty six.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Not shocked at all, Like even within home, I think
- 29:51Speaker 1: this has become such a booming trend. We've seen the
- 29:55Speaker 1: blue and brown colour combo, especially with embedding really taking off.
- 29:59Speaker 1: And I got brown sheets, and can I just say
- 30:04Speaker 1: brown sheets are the best fake tan hack you will
- 30:08Speaker 1: ever get in your entire fucking life, because as someone
- 30:11Speaker 1: who sleeps in their tan and has previously had like
- 30:14Speaker 1: you know, buddy yellow cream maybe baby pink, I fake tanned.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And I got into that bed and I thought, what
- 30:22Speaker 2: are you, in a fact, can do about it?
- 30:23Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:23Speaker 2: What do you just say about it? It's the best
- 30:26Speaker 2: you don't have.
- 30:27Speaker 1: To do, Like, oh, I'll wear these trackis in these socks,
- 30:29Speaker 1: so that I don't get tan on my sheets, and
- 30:32Speaker 1: sure maybe I'm a grubby girl for that, but I
- 30:35Speaker 1: don't care. I've had the tan on for like i'ms
- 30:38Speaker 1: not like getting in there stopping sticky wet. Yeah, but
- 30:41Speaker 1: it's the best thing if you sleep in your tan
- 30:44Speaker 1: brown sheets.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Life hack, life hack of the century.
- 30:47Speaker 1: And also another training aesthetic that we're gonna see in
- 30:50Speaker 1: fashion in autumn and winter is poet core.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I love this.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I've already subscribed and I don't know what it
- 30:57Speaker 1: is right, So, according to Pinterest, poet core is up
- 31:00Speaker 1: seventy five percent. So I think oversized turtlenecks, blazers, messenger bags,
- 31:07Speaker 1: tires and tie accessories. My brain went like ye olden
- 31:13Speaker 1: day poet oh, like Shakespell Yeah, like a like a
- 31:17Speaker 1: rolling show.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Why not a feather in the hair? Love that?
- 31:22Speaker 1: But have you noticed that lots of people have been
- 31:25Speaker 1: wearing because tires were a huge accessory last year, but
- 31:28Speaker 1: a lot of people this year have been accessorizing the
- 31:31Speaker 1: ties with like brooches and pins. Brooches are also going
- 31:35Speaker 1: to be big dog trind Yeah, and I do think
- 31:38Speaker 1: that a broach gives autom energy. Bro Oh, absolutely, And
- 31:42Speaker 1: when you go into a Vinnie's or a Salvos that
- 31:45Speaker 1: is an absolute gold mine for beautiful brooches, doing like
- 31:50Speaker 1: a lovely like flea market, yeah, which autom energy. Yes,
- 31:55Speaker 1: a crispy autumn morning at a flea market it or
- 32:00Speaker 1: like a vintage market.
- 32:04Speaker 2: That is my flow state. That that is my flow state.
- 32:08Speaker 1: You have to go with someone who can enter the
- 32:11Speaker 1: flow state.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I can't. When you're a Vinage.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Shopping with someone and they start doing the hover behind
- 32:17Speaker 1: you and you're like, oh my.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Cue in the chair and watch me. Okay, I was
- 32:23Speaker 2: going to say the boyfriend chair, the same thing. True.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So an Autumn beauty is going to have a focus
- 32:29Speaker 1: on effortless aka lazy Beauty's me out per It's also
- 32:36Speaker 1: known as like undone beauty.
- 32:38Speaker 2: And I do think this.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Is potentially going to have that flow on effect from
- 32:43Speaker 1: the previous conversation we had in last week's episode that
- 32:45Speaker 1: was like.
- 32:45Speaker 2: This anti AI and anti perfection.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Trend that we're seeing that as a result to kind
- 32:52Speaker 1: of step back from the perfection that is AI generated
- 32:55Speaker 1: content and all of that stuff that we're seeing like
- 32:59Speaker 1: mess and like less perfect in everything in the sense
- 33:04Speaker 1: of the word, whether it's fashion, whether it's beauty whatever,
- 33:06Speaker 1: that is. So Narsha Penrose from l says that some
- 33:10Speaker 1: of the key moments from the full Sush Winter twenty
- 33:13Speaker 1: twenty six New York Fashion Week runways were shaped by
- 33:16Speaker 1: undone beauty. So lazy is in there's no need to
- 33:21Speaker 1: hit snooze five times to perfect your blowout or rush
- 33:24Speaker 1: through a full face of makeup to look impossibly polished
- 33:27Speaker 1: in fall and winter. If the runways proved anything, is
- 33:31Speaker 1: that looking like a working, tired human isn't something to hide.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Thank fuck, Oh my god, we're ahead of the trend.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Yeah, shit, trendshadters.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yeah, so this is the trend that's set to define
- 33:44Speaker 1: the year. And when they scanned the shows for Makeup
- 33:47Speaker 1: here and now moments destined for mood boards. Designers seem
- 33:51Speaker 1: to pull inspiration from somewhere more intimate, like the bedroom
- 33:55Speaker 1: smudgy just smooched lips appeared at Boy London and Alter's,
- 34:00Speaker 1: signaling a shift away from the hyper controlled, minimalist aesthetic
- 34:04Speaker 1: that dominated past seasons. So again, it's like that thing
- 34:08Speaker 1: of it's not perfect, it's undone beauty.
- 34:11Speaker 2: It looks lived in, it looks exactly.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And then last, but not least, I wanted to get
- 34:16Speaker 1: into something that our producer was telling us about before
- 34:20Speaker 1: the episode, and I was like, write that down, write
- 34:22Speaker 1: that down.
- 34:23Speaker 2: That's good shit.
- 34:24Speaker 1: In these episodes, we often share like something to watch
- 34:26Speaker 1: or something to read, but this was something a little
- 34:29Speaker 1: bit different that I was like subscribed And it's basically
- 34:33Speaker 1: the Good Read's achievements. So every three months or every season,
- 34:39Speaker 1: Goodreads set a new seasonal challenge and it comes with
- 34:43Speaker 1: twelve bookmarks that you can collect as you read books
- 34:46Speaker 1: throughout the season.
- 34:48Speaker 2: I love that.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Oh, I'm so into the the dover main hit of
- 34:52Speaker 3: the bookmark.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Or it solves that problem as well of being like,
- 34:56Speaker 1: well what do I read? Yeah, Like, I get so
- 34:59Speaker 1: many dms and so many questions from chicks being like
- 35:01Speaker 1: I don't know how to read.
- 35:02Speaker 2: I'm going to reading slump.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I've got a book hangover all of those very very
- 35:07Speaker 1: legitimate book problems, you know.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Typically, the first three book.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Marks are based on how many books you read. For example,
- 35:14Speaker 1: you get one for reading two books during the season,
- 35:16Speaker 1: and then three books, then five after that. Each bookmark
- 35:21Speaker 1: has a particular theme ooh, I know, and you can
- 35:26Speaker 1: pick from a list of eligible books, and then once
- 35:28Speaker 1: you finish that book, you unlock that achievement.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Oh fun love so much so.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Some of the achievements of the previous challenge, which ends
- 35:37Speaker 1: on March thirty first, include Choice Archive, where you need
- 35:41Speaker 1: to read a previous Goodread's Choice.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Nominee or winner. Oh okay, so.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Some examples of those is like the Midnight Library, A
- 35:48Speaker 1: Quart of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Mass, People We
- 35:51Speaker 1: Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry, So like fun fun books, Yeah,
- 35:55Speaker 1: Star selections, where you need to read a book that's
