- 0:02Hey, welcome to the City Point Church podcast.
- 0:04Thanks for joining us. Every day is an opportunity to
- 0:07take hold of. So we hope this message inspires
- 0:10you and build your faith, but it helps you have more of a God
- 0:13perspective for your day. Enjoy can.
- 0:17You declare out loud today. My heart is open, my ears are
- 0:23alert to grow and change and to never be the same.
- 0:30Amen, Amen. Please be seated.
- 0:35Amazing. Well, I've come to realize that
- 0:39God has a system when it comes to relationships.
- 0:44And over, over times, I think we've sometimes forgot this
- 0:49system of how do we formulate great relationships with people,
- 0:54especially those relationships that can go a little bit deeper.
- 0:58You know what I'm talking about, like the honesty that you can
- 1:01have with some people. And as we've been unpacking this
- 1:05year, discipleship as a church, I've been reading through the
- 1:09scriptures and I've come to realize that discipleship has
- 1:13greater depth and width than just me being discipled by
- 1:17someone else. I'm starting to realize that
- 1:21this is actually God's design for relationship.
- 1:25And because Pastor Mel and I, we've been talking a little bit
- 1:28about the discipleship concept and, and something we've come to
- 1:33realize is, is it's not, it's not the biblical way that it's
- 1:38always someone greater or more superior that disciples someone
- 1:45less superior. So obviously you want to be
- 1:49discipled by someone who's walked a few more years or you
- 1:54know, that that really helps in the discipleship journey.
- 1:57But the reality is discipleship is a journey of relationship.
- 2:03And so I've, I'm discipled by some people in my life.
- 2:06And I remember when Pastor Rick was the pastor of this church,
- 2:10Pastor Rick used to disciple, disciple me.
- 2:14And although he's 10 years older than me, it wasn't always the
- 2:18most superior person to the younger.
- 2:22It was a relationship that formed where I honored and
- 2:26respected the one that would disciple my life, but it was
- 2:30mutual. And our relationship grew deeper
- 2:34and deeper. Where true honesty and where the
- 2:37Bible talks about iron, sharpening iron could actually
- 2:42happen in our relationship. And so I want to encourage
- 2:46everyone in the church today that if you're seeking out good
- 2:51friendships or relationships with with people, can I
- 2:56encourage that the discipleship journey is part of how we form
- 3:01these deeper relationships with people because you walk a
- 3:05journey of life together. Is that good?
- 3:08And so that's just a little key. So I've I've titled today's
- 3:12message. It starts with a relationship.
- 3:16It starts with a relationship. Now many people assume
- 3:22discipleship begins in a classroom like internship,
- 3:27something like that Bible College in a Bible studying like
- 3:32you might get in our next steps course with Pastor Henry or
- 3:37after someone gives their life to Jesus, then discipleship can
- 3:42start in someone's life. But the the Bible paints a very
- 3:45different picture. And so we're going to look at
- 3:48what the Apostle Paul wrote in the Scriptures in Romans chapter
- 3:5510 verses 14 to 17. And it says this.
- 4:00How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?
- 4:05And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?
- 4:11And how shall they hear without a preacher?
- 4:15And how shall they preach, unless they are sent as it is
- 4:21written? How beautiful are the feet of
- 4:23those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of
- 4:28good things. But they have not all obeyed the
- 4:33gospel for Rosiah said, Lord, who has believed our report?
- 4:38So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
- 4:46Isn't that a fantastic scripture?
- 4:48Anyone read that one before? It's a good scripture.
- 4:51So Paul's laying out a clear progression for us.
- 4:56People must hear before they believe.
- 5:02People must hear before they believe.
- 5:06Listen. We need to pray that God moves
- 5:10in our community. We must pray because prayer is
- 5:13the toolkit. It's the greatest tool a
- 5:16believer has to breakthrough of anything in our worlds.
- 5:20We must pray, but we must also share the good news.
- 5:25We must pray for people, but we must go out and let it come from
- 5:30our lips. I believe this, that if we don't
- 5:34get it in US, the Holy Spirit has nothing to bring out of us.
- 5:39Does that make sense? And so it's the same principle
- 5:41here when we are praying for our loved ones or we're praying for
- 5:45our schools for revival or university or our community like
- 5:50we do all the all the time. Don't just be a bedroom prayer.
- 5:55Only be a bedroom prayer. Who then comes out with fire and
- 6:00anointing and goes and preaches the good news to people and tell
- 6:04them, tells them about the love of God.
- 6:06Don't just agree that Easter weekend is going to be an
- 6:10amazing weekend on the calendar. Take that agreeance in the
- 6:14spirit realm and make sure people know the invitation to
- 6:18come with you and if they need it, pick him up, Bring him to
- 6:21church each week, whatever it requires.
- 6:24Because we are the hands and the feet, not just the voice.
- 6:27Amen. So Paul's creating this clear
- 6:31picture before people hear the message clearly, they must in
- 6:36first encounter the messenger. Here's the reality.
- 6:41We pray in our bedrooms. We come out with fire and
- 6:46anointing oil all over us and then we share the gospel, the
- 6:50good news, with our next door neighbor.
- 6:52Guess what? They have just met the
- 6:55representative of heaven. They have just met someone who
- 7:02knows the one that they need and how we present ourselves, how we
- 7:08present the goodness of God. They have just met the
- 7:12representative of heaven. They meet you and they meet me.
- 7:18Before someone has a relationship with Jesus, two
- 7:22things usually happen. First, they hear about Him, and
- 7:28second, they see what it looks like when someone follows
- 7:32closely with Him because they see you and I Amen.
- 7:36So it starts with a relationship more than words, more than
- 7:40declaring. It always starts with a
- 7:43relationship. So this means something profound
- 7:47for every believer in this room today.
- 7:50You ready? Your life is always preaching.
- 7:56Your behaviour is always communicating something about
- 8:01Jesus. Now listen, for sure, your
- 8:04behaviour is always communicating, but did you know
- 8:07it's communicating something about the one you follow?
- 8:11Because people see you as a Christian, a Christ follower.
- 8:15Your kindness preaches. Your integrity preaches.
- 8:21Your patience preaches, your love It preaches even when
- 8:28you're not standing behind a pulpit.
- 8:30Your life is preaching Jesus to people and the world around you.
- 8:36Now, discipleship often begins long before a person walks
- 8:41through the doors of the church. In fact, I would argue they're
- 8:45walking through the doors of the church because there has been
- 8:48discipleship in their lives. That's a powerful thing to grab
- 8:52hold of. It begins in ordinary
- 8:56relationships, at work, at school, at the gym, across the
- 9:01fence with a neighbor. So instead of throwing balloons
- 9:05over to the neighbor, why don't we get to know them and hop over
- 9:09the fence and say hi. And it starts over a coffee with
- 9:14a friend. Every single time we are meeting
- 9:17with people, we are in a in a realm of discipleship.
- 9:21Amen. You see that on your life this
- 9:23morning. Can you say out loud I am a
- 9:27disciple? Say it again, I am a disciple
- 9:34because everywhere you go this is exactly what you're doing,
- 9:37whether we realise it or not. And as we've been studying this,
- 9:41I'm starting to realise if I can put immense attention, attention
- 9:47to that and purpose behind the way I conduct my life, I can be
- 9:52discipling people always towards Jesus Christ.
- 9:57And I have a a little saying the interns would have heard, and if
- 10:01you've never heard this before, it's your call this morning into
- 10:05internship mid year intake. And but I just have this thing
- 10:12that if you're in my sphere of life, you're just going to hear
- 10:15about Jesus. If you're in my sphere of life
- 10:19or in a conversation with me, I'm always going to guide you
- 10:23towards heavenly things or biblical principles.
- 10:27Now I might skin it a little bit different.
- 10:29I might not say James, you know, chapter 3, verse 14 says this,
- 10:33but the the language that will come out of yours or my lip out
- 10:38of our heart, our lips will speak guidance towards biblical
- 10:43things. In other words, we are we are
- 10:45influencing as a disciple, a person towards Jesus Christ.
- 10:51Let me tell you, discipleship is all about Jesus.
- 10:56It's to Jesus in Jesus, and from Jesus it's to Jesus.
- 11:01We're always disciple in people into a relationship with Jesus.
- 11:06It's in Jesus where we then start to mature and we start to
- 11:11grow. But it's from Jesus because
- 11:14Jesus sends us out into the world to share the gospel.
- 11:18Discipleship and Christian living is all about Jesus.
- 11:23So can I encourage you, when you go home today, you say, God, I
- 11:29just want my life to always be speaking, to always be
- 11:34witnessing, and to always be leading people towards you.
- 11:39Amen. See that this morning, Church?
- 11:42All right, so it starts with a relationship.
- 11:46When Jesus called the 12 disciples, they didn't yet fully
- 11:52understand who he was. And I think we forget that
- 11:56sometimes. Hey, Jesus was this new person
- 12:02on the block. Some people knew him because
- 12:05they were friends in school and things like that.
- 12:09And he's preaching about this God no one on planet Earth had
- 12:12ever heard about before, which is crazy to even kind of think.
- 12:17And then he was claiming that this God was his father.
- 12:21But, you know, everyone knew his father and it was just all
- 12:25different. But he called these people and
- 12:28he said, would you come follow me now?
- 12:30They didn't have perfect theology, they and if they were
- 12:35like me, they probably couldn't even say theology properly.
- 12:39They simply heard him say come and follow me.
- 12:44They heard him, then they followed him, then they
- 12:50experienced life with him, then they believed and obeyed.
- 12:57Let me tell you, church people have heard you.
- 13:01They're following you and they're experiencing what
- 13:05Christian life can look like, and if our example is pure,
- 13:10wholesome, filled with love and joy and peace, they will begin
- 13:15to believe and obey the one we are following.
- 13:19Also, Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote in his book The Cost of
- 13:24Discipleship. Christianity, man without
- 13:29discipleship is always Christianity without Christ, man
- 13:37Christianity without discipleship.
- 13:40And he doesn't even water it down.
- 13:44He says it's always Christianity without Christ.
- 13:50That says to me this words alone don't cut it.
- 13:57My life, my discipling people, my showing people is what people
- 14:05need to see Christ through me, not just Christ said from me.
- 14:11Amazing. What Bonhoeffer was highlighting
- 14:14is that discipleship is not just information, it's formation
- 14:20through relationship. People learn the way of Jesus by
- 14:26walking with people who follow Jesus.
- 14:29And you know the Great Commission is relational.
- 14:33In fact, Jesus said in Matthew 2819 to 20, he said go therefore
- 14:38and make disciples relationship of all the nations.
- 14:42And Jesus exampled this relationship, teaching them to
- 14:46observe all things that I have commanded, not telling them to
- 14:51observe, but teaching them, walking with them, showing them,
- 14:55releasing them and giving them a go to follow all things that
- 15:00Jesus commanded, but not what we command.
- 15:04So Jesus has written the words for you and I to read.
- 15:07But we exemplify, you know, it's we, we don't preach at people,
- 15:14we preach for people. We don't preach to condemn pre
- 15:19people, but we we preach to show people we give them the words.
- 15:24But then we but we behave in the same ways and we exemplify and
- 15:29then they walk with us and then we give them the opportunity to
- 15:32do that with someone else. This is called multiplication.
- 15:37Notice something important. Jesus didn't say go build large
- 15:40events and everyone says Amen. He didn't say go create
- 15:45impressive programs like our Easter, Easter after the service
- 15:51program outside for the kids. He said go make disciples.
- 15:56Making disciples always and only ever involves people.
- 16:04And it doesn't just involve other people.
- 16:06It involves you and me also, which is great.
- 16:10It involves walking with people. I feel like I'm giving you
- 16:14really good stuff this morning. It's a little bit quiet in this
- 16:17room. It's a little bit quiet in this
- 16:20room. Like I laboured over this.
- 16:24Yeah, there's 20 hours here. Can I get it just a little bit
- 16:27more this morning? Where's City Point NI Know
- 16:32you're listening and all that, but a preacher really needs a
- 16:34bit of a response. That's how you get the real good
- 16:37stuff. I'm giving you good stuff, but
- 16:39there's deeper and you got to draw it out this morning.
- 16:41Is this all right? Well, I know Nicole's not here
- 16:44this morning, but it's all good. She's ministering somewhere
- 16:47else. OK.
- 16:49Making disciples always involves people helping someone to learn
- 16:55about God, helping someone grow in their faith, which is just
- 17:00like the most wonderful thing we could possibly do is help people
- 17:04grow in their faith with Jesus and helping someone obey the
- 17:09teachings of Jesus. You know, I love how Pastor John
- 17:13this morning, you know, he brings out the word, but he then
- 17:15he gives you the, the Hebrew of it.
- 17:18And we're sort of we're learning the we're learning deeper
- 17:21levels. You know, this is what you get
- 17:23when you hang around faith believing people.
- 17:26The value of your life is that God has called you to grow and
- 17:32to sow the value of your life is not just in the growth.
- 17:40I know that sometimes we all try and become bigger and, and
- 17:43better, not bigger like that, but just bigger in, in our
- 17:46faith. And we try and get, become
- 17:49better people and, and we try to become more pure people.
- 17:53But sometimes I think we just get a little bit too focused on
- 17:57us. Like we need to do internship,
- 18:00not 100% for you and I, but we need to do internship because
- 18:04it's teaching us something to sow into someone else.
- 18:08We grow in our faith so that we can share to others.
- 18:12We read our word everyday, not just for us, but if God can get
- 18:17it through US, he'll get the revelation to us.
- 18:21And it's the same with money. If he can get money through you,
- 18:24he'll get money to you. And we'll just keep saying, well
- 18:28God, where's my blessings? Forget about your blessing, just
- 18:32say God, where is something that I can give to someone else?
- 18:36Give me what I can, what I need to be a blesser.
- 18:41And I think sometimes we focus a little bit too much just on us.
- 18:45We need to refine ourselves and we need to get our our skills
- 18:49all up and upgraded and we need to become better singers and,
- 18:54and better worshippers and, and have more money in the bank.
- 18:58We need all of this stuff for sure.
- 19:01But if you get it all and you do nothing with it, it does
- 19:05nothing. It achieves nothing.
- 19:08I want to go to heaven with a whole army of people of
- 19:11influence behind me. And we are learning today.
- 19:17My words aren't enough for that. Your words aren't enough for
- 19:23that. Your generosity does that.
- 19:26Your finance does that. Your open house does that.
- 19:31You're giving someone a room when they need it that does
- 19:34that. Being gracious with your
- 19:36children does that, you know, not always being the one that
- 19:40knows it all, but being the one that accepts people and guides
- 19:46them through the word of God and through life.
- 19:49You know, no one wants to go to a know it all, but everyone
- 19:53wants to go to a gracious person.
- 19:56The key is is to not remain gracious only and not to be a
- 20:00know it all gracious only. You might be a gracious person,
- 20:04but when people come to you, if they stay with you, you're not
- 20:08achieving the what God's called of us.
- 20:10People come to you because you've got an open house, open
- 20:14arms. And then we have to direct
- 20:16people. Where do we direct them to what
- 20:19you learn to internship, what you learn in the word of God,
- 20:22what you learn at Bible college, what you experience in your
- 20:25workplace and, and what's your example, you know, at university
- 20:29and things like that. So we're leading people always.
- 20:32The Old Testament come on in turns.
- 20:35We went through this on the on last week.
- 20:37The Old Testament always led to Jesus because he is the answer.
- 20:45And what that tells you and I our lives also must always lead
- 20:51to Jesus. The value of your life is that
- 20:55God has called you to grow and to sow.
- 20:58As we grow, God calls us to sow into someone else and help them
- 21:03grow. This is multiplication of
- 21:05discipleship. It starts though, with a
- 21:09relationship. Now listen.
- 21:11Relationships grow on the journey One Life group session,
- 21:18isn't it? And listen, you don't have to be
- 21:23fantastic on the first Life group gathering.
- 21:27Well, you're growing too, right? And that's why you call Pastor
- 21:31Mel during the week and say, Pastor Mel, I'll put it in the
- 21:34deep end, Pastor John and Rachel.
- 21:40All right, you can call me and you say, hey, I LED my life
- 21:45group this week and this is what happened.
- 21:48And you know, I, I, I know of, of a couple of people that had a
- 21:52life group and no one rocked up. How crazy is that?
- 21:56Could that happen to you that do they not like you, you know, and
- 22:01so because they don't like you, no one rocked up.
- 22:05And so I got a call or I had a conversation, and it was like,
- 22:09what do we do in this situation? And so I walked those people
- 22:13through and it was nothing to do with you.
- 22:14In fact, you're the most loved person in the whole church.
- 22:18Yeah, they love you more than Pastor Grey.
- 22:19They just listen to you because they got to.
- 22:21But. But here's the reality is we're
- 22:25growing together. You don't have to have the
- 22:28theology and remember 64 verses of the Bible before you can run
- 22:32a life group. What you do is you say, I want
- 22:35to lead someone to Jesus. Everything I have, I'm going to
- 22:40give. But I haven't achieved the goal
- 22:43of learning yet, and I'm going to continue to grow myself.
- 22:46Amen. Discipleship is not a moment,
- 22:50it's a journey. Systems help, but relationships
- 22:54transform. In the church, we create systems
- 22:59to help people grow. We've got life groups, we've got
- 23:02courses, we've got demographic ministries, we've got Sunday
- 23:06gatherings, we've got SWB conference coming up.
- 23:10These are powerful and these are important, but church don't rely
- 23:17on them. Be part of them.
- 23:20Empower them, go to them, learn and grow in them, and be serving
- 23:27them. Be part of them for other
- 23:29people, but don't let our lives rely on these things alone.
- 23:36They help believers grow in knowledge, faith, and community.
- 23:40But here is the reality. Systems organized discipleship.
- 23:46With relationship, discipleship matures.
- 23:50So the systems of the church organize avenues for
- 23:54discipleship to happen. But discipleship must happen in
- 23:59relationship because it's a journey.
- 24:02And so in that relationship journey, it then matures.
- 24:07People may attend a program, but they are transformed through
- 24:11connection. This is why discipleship often
- 24:16begins outside the walls of the church.
- 24:20It begins when someone hears for me.
- 24:22Back to our first verse, when someone trusts you.
- 24:26Why? Because you remain faithful to
- 24:29this. Let me tell you, I know fuel is
- 24:34ridiculous. I bought a diesel because I
- 24:36thought it was the better option, and now I'm learning I
- 24:40chose the worst option. Right.
- 24:43I understand they're saying that this is going to be worse than
- 24:46COVID, but does this shake your faith?
- 24:50Does this shake the when Pastor Dan gets up and talks about
- 24:54finances and money, does this shake that or is your faith in
- 24:58God? See, the, the reality is the
- 25:02world is always going to disintegrate.
- 25:05It's constantly going to, you know, the, the earth groans out.
- 25:10The Bible says as his coming draws nearer, it's going to,
- 25:14it's going to decay. We already know.
- 25:17We've read the book. I don't know, but if you go to
- 25:22let me find where it starts, New King James Version page, there
- 25:33we go, page 15118. There's the ending story for us.
- 25:42We already know it, don't we? The world has even heard about
- 25:46it. So faith remains faithful
- 25:49through that book. And it's always been a thing
- 25:54through every ear from the book of Genesis, Man, there's been.
- 25:57Imagine growing up in the medieval time just like crazy,
- 26:01crazy stuff, pirates and all that time, you know?
- 26:05Yeah. The other, the other part of
- 26:07history. Yeah.
- 26:09Imagine that. Imagine the disciples, what they
- 26:12went through, crazy crazy stuff. But we don't let it shake our
- 26:16church. In fact I reckon God loves this
- 26:19stuff. The church through history has
- 26:22always come out stronger at the end of mass trial and
- 26:28persecutions against the church. The church has always come out
- 26:32stronger, brighter and general. Generally revivals come out of
- 26:36it, which we all seek the revival but we don't like the
- 26:39beforehand. We all want to see our lives
- 26:44revive. Let me tell you that the the
- 26:46more the fuel goes up, the easier the conversation with
- 26:49your next neighbor will be. Yeah, the more chance you have
- 26:56to bring hope into a conversation.
- 27:00It's really hard to bring hope into, you know that.
- 27:02Reckon why the western world struggles with church growth is
- 27:08because the western world hasn't needed God as much as the rest
- 27:12of the world. And because life is easy.
- 27:15We got money and we're buying new cars all the time.
- 27:19I mean, look at all the cars on the road.
- 27:20Like everyone has one or two, you know, third world countries
- 27:24aren't like this. And so we don't need a a, a, a
- 27:30Messiah or as someone who brings us the answer because we all
- 27:34think our everyday life is OK. But the reality is the world
- 27:39starts to groan more and more and things start to happen at
- 27:43the you and I have it just so easy just to bring hope and to
- 27:47bring a life and to to pour out blessing.
- 27:50Let's not be the one in the conversation groaning about the
- 27:54groanings of the world, but let's be the one in the
- 27:57conversation that turns it around and goes.
- 28:00I understand diesels like this. Look, you can go any day and get
- 28:03an unleaded car. But let me tell you, in the
- 28:06church, we've been walking in blessing like never before.
- 28:10I've been tithing for 25 years in my life and I have noticed
- 28:15when I look back, no matter what has happened, even during COVID,
- 28:19that my life just kept moving forward stronger and stronger.
- 28:23Sure, sometimes I have to lose this or I have to lose that, but
- 28:27man, I've never lost the joy of life.
- 28:30I've never ever thought I don't want to bring children into this
- 28:34world because I understand that children are the answer of the
- 28:38world I have under I. You know what I mean?
- 28:40We can just bring so much goodness and disciple people
- 28:45through this season of our lives.
- 28:48But it begins when someone hears from you, when they trust you
- 28:53and begin to follow your example.
- 28:57Be in a room of negative conversation, be bold enough to
- 29:00bring in positive conversation. And I reckon someone in that
- 29:04group will start to be more positive.
- 29:07When people not just know that you're a Christian and hear
- 29:10about it, but they see you in the moments and in the situation
- 29:14and how you deal with them, it will bring influence.
- 29:17And out of that group of 10 people, what if one of them
- 29:20followed you into the House of God, into church?
- 29:25One of the most important truths about discipleship is this.
- 29:31You don't need to be a theologian to start.
- 29:36You simply need to share what Jesus has done in your life.
- 29:40Has God done anything in anyone's life in this room?
- 29:43Lift your hand. Whatever it is that he has done
- 29:47for you. I encourage you this week.
- 29:50Would you say, God, would you remind me of some of the things
- 29:54you've done in my life and give me opportunity to share it?
- 29:59And if you fail in that, just get straight back up.
- 30:03Just say, OK, God, I missed that one.
- 30:06Would you give me another opportunity?
- 30:08Because I just want to share about your goodness and I want
- 30:11to become amazing at doing this. Pastor Craig Rochelle says
- 30:16people would rather follow someone who is always real
- 30:21listen than someone who is always right, someone who is
- 30:28always authentic to their faith, then someone who has the right
- 30:35words to say. See in this world, in fact, the
- 30:40devil himself, he's a man of smooth words, knows what to say
- 30:46to peace the situation. Don't look to peace the
- 30:50situation. Look to guide someone through
- 30:53the situation. Jesus didn't come to be liked by
- 30:57everyone. He came to bring truth to
- 31:00everyone. He didn't come to be liked in
- 31:03the temples, but He'd come to bring revelation to His word in
- 31:07the temples. And you and I are the carriers
- 31:10of truth. Don't have a smooth tongue?
- 31:13Have a truthful tongue. Amen.
- 31:16And people will be attracted to that when the whole world is
- 31:20doing the opposite. Authenticity builds trust and
- 31:26trust creates the environment where discipleship can begin.
- 31:31When people see a genuine faith lived out in everyday life, it
- 31:36becomes compelling. They start to ask questions,
- 31:41they start to lean into your life a little bit more, and
- 31:45often the journey towards Jesus will begin.
- 31:50So as the band comes up this morning and joins me, this is my
- 31:57final thought. This week, I want to challenge
- 32:01every one of us to intentionally live like Jesus in the
- 32:06relationships already around us. Let's not be gossipers this
- 32:13week. Let's not be carriers of all
- 32:17negativity. Everyone saw the news.
- 32:22Everyone already knows. We don't need to bring it back
- 32:26up. What we need to bring, bring
- 32:28back up is an answer to what everyone already knows.
- 32:33Is that the Christian version of what everyone always knows, the
- 32:38Christian faith principle to what everyone already knows?
- 32:43That's what we are required to do.
- 32:46Look for one or two people in your world and a neighbor, A
- 32:50colleague, a family member or a friend and choose to invest in
- 32:55them with genuine care. Can I encourage all of us?
- 32:59We all have people in our world. Just choose one of them that you
- 33:03wouldn't normally do this with and just go.
- 33:06You know what, I'm going to actually call that person beyond
- 33:09their birthday or you know, Easter greeting.
- 33:12I'm going to call them randomly this week and I'm just going to
- 33:15invest a little bit of care into their world.
- 33:18You'll be amazed of the fruits of that one conversation.
- 33:22Or buy someone a coffee. If you've got the finances, or
- 33:26even if you don't have the finances, why don't you exercise
- 33:29this faith? But when you're in the shopping
- 33:31oil and there's someone there, pay for them.
- 33:35Or when you're buying a coffee, pay for the person behind you
- 33:39and bless them. Or when you're filling up your
- 33:41car, if you can, why don't you pay for their fuel and bless
- 33:45them? In the in the crisis of the
- 33:47world, shine the light of blessing on someone else's life.
- 33:52So how can I even say to do that?
- 33:54Because I understand the principle of the Bible.
- 33:57If he can get it through you, he'll get it to you.
- 34:00And I honestly have seen the fruits of that statement in my
- 34:04life. Take time this week to listen to
- 34:07someone to encourage and to show kindness in a practical way, not
- 34:13just show kindness with a smile and words because we remember
- 34:17words alone don't cut it, let's do it in a practical way.
- 34:22Let your words be gracious and your actions be patient and your
- 34:28character reflect Christ. Share what God has done in your
- 34:34life when the opportunity comes soon as the opportunity is
- 34:38there. Can I encourage you?
- 34:40This is something I've learned is I've I had to prepare myself
- 34:45to be ready. I say to our worshippers in the
- 34:49church, you notice that when the first song starts, the team's
- 34:55not warming up, but when the first song starts, they hit us
- 35:01with a wall of sound and worship and like, come on church, you
- 35:05know, because they, they're already prepared.
- 35:09And I've had to learn the same principle in my life, especially
- 35:12with generosity. And I'm not just talking money,
- 35:15generosity in all forms. I have to be mentally prepared.
- 35:20So when the moment comes, I don't need a warm up period.
- 35:25Church listen, you don't walk into prayer meetings and sort
- 35:30out your personal life in the prayer meeting before you can
- 35:33start to pray when Rachel's teaching prayer and she says she
- 35:37hasn't said anything to me, but when she when she says OK, let's
- 35:41start praying for this. We don't first repent of our
- 35:44sins. We're doing that on the drive
- 35:47here and when we get to the prayer meeting we walk in right
- 35:51Why you talk so much. I'm ready to pray and we're
- 35:54ready to go We're pre prepared with our life the way we live.
- 35:59You know, sometimes I even think, you know, I had this
- 36:03thought this morning, you know, God, what do you want to do in
- 36:06the service today? And what, what's what's
- 36:08happening in the atmosphere? I always say to God, what's
- 36:11what's in the atmosphere over the community.
- 36:15Now I, I'm not waiting for God to put a, a thought or a prompt
- 36:20into my spirit. And then I go, wow, that's a big
- 36:23one. Wow.
- 36:24OK, my prayer life wasn't that big this morning.
- 36:27This week, you know, I come ready.
- 36:31And when I say that and he puts something in my spirit, I'm
- 36:34like, OK, God, let's partner on that and we'll pray that one
- 36:37through. You know what I'm saying?
- 36:38So Church, this is a call today to be prepared to be the light
- 36:44to people. Yeah.
- 36:45When someone says I need this or I need a prayer or just yeah,
- 36:49yeah, yeah, I can do that. I can do that.
- 36:51I live ready. I live with money in my pocket
- 36:55to bless someone for a coffee. You might not have much money,
- 36:58but I'm pretty sure you can have $5.
- 37:01I'm pretty sure if you planned it, you might not be able to do
- 37:04$5 this week, but if you plan it next week, you'll have a $5
- 37:09note. And then, and then let me let me
- 37:12say this. When you buy someone a coffee,
- 37:14you now have nothing. You go, God, I'm not just
- 37:18grungingly giving this away. I'm sewing this today that you
- 37:24will bring blessing into their world.
- 37:26I reckon you'll end up with another $5 in your pocket.
- 37:33Remember this, People often see Jesus before thou will believe
- 37:40in Jesus. So let your life be a living
- 37:44example of love, of humility. That's a big one, isn't it?
- 37:51I struggle with that one of humility and truth to the world
- 37:57around you. Discipleship doesn't start with
- 38:01the program. Don't look for a program.
- 38:04You use your life. It starts with a relationship.
- 38:08It begins when someone hears from you and they trust you
- 38:14because you speak truth, not smooth words, and begins to walk
- 38:20with you because they follow a person of truth.
- 38:23And through your relationship, they will discover Jesus.
- 38:28Listen, and I'll finish with this statement.
- 38:30The greatest discipleship moments often begin with
- 38:35something very simple, a conversation, a friendship, and
- 38:43a relationship. You and someone else walking
- 38:48towards Jesus together. It starts with a relationship.
- 38:53Amen. That's how we build the House of
- 38:55God. That's how we build people in
- 38:58the world around us. And here's the reality of of
- 39:02this whole subject of discipleship of relationships is
- 39:07that Jesus wants to be in a relationship with all of us.
- 39:14You know, when Jesus was on planet earth, we, we often talk
- 39:17about how we chose 12 people. But did you know crowds of
- 39:22thousands used to follow him and depending on their heart, out of
- 39:26the attitude they were allowing Jesus to disciple them.
- 39:32You know, you might be in a crowd sometimes of thousands,
- 39:35like, you know, 5000 sometimes and 7000 people Jesus would
- 39:40minister to. And you might be that one person
- 39:43sometimes in that crowd. But you can look at that man and
- 39:48say that truth coming out of his mouth.
- 39:51I have seen him. He goes from town to town and he
- 39:55heals and he he loves people and he sits with people.
- 40:00And you might be like that to that you might go, you know, the
- 40:03church is vast people on planet earth.
- 40:06There's, there's millions of them.
- 40:08They're everywhere. Yet you're saying to me that God
- 40:12sees me in the crowd. Yes, he does.
- 40:16Because He wants a relationship with you.
- 40:18He wants to take you from who you are and where you are in
- 40:21your life today and continue to walk.
- 40:24Listen, not dictate to you. That's falsehood.
- 40:28That's not what the Bible teaches.
- 40:30He wants to walk with you on a journey of discipleship so that
- 40:35you and I can become the best version that we could probably
- 40:39possibly be of who we are. God wants to love you through
- 40:43struggles. He wants to sit with you through
- 40:46trials. He wants to encourage us all to
- 40:49grow and to move forward in our faith and in our lives.
- 40:54Listen, Jesus is your greatest cheerleader.
- 40:57He's all for you and your life. And it doesn't matter who we are
- 41:02today. We could have grown up in the
- 41:04church like myself, or we could just be what we would consider
- 41:08the worst of humanity. God doesn't view us like that.
- 41:12He doesn't rate US like this. What God sees is his children
- 41:17and we are all his children. We all know that God's formed us
- 41:20in our mother's womb. And so when he looks at your
- 41:23life, he doesn't really look and and start to counsel the sins,
- 41:29but he, he knows his sins. But he looks at your soul.
- 41:32He looks at who you are and who he made you to become, and he
- 41:38loves that.
