- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:06to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:10I'm your host, Anna McGivern for October 6th.
- 0:13Now, you might have noticed that my voice is a little off today.
- 0:17I've been having some health challenges over the past two
- 0:20weeks or so and now on top of all that, I'm losing my voice.
- 0:25But that's OK, everything's good.
- 0:27I'm on the mend and and I will be fully recovered soon, but the
- 0:32show must go on. Today is National Noodle Day, a
- 0:36delicious celebration of one of humanity's most versatile and
- 0:39beloved foods. While the exact origins of this
- 0:43holiday remain a bit mysterious, what we do know is that noodles
- 0:48themselves have been nourishing humanity for over 4000 years,
- 0:53making them one of the oldest prepared foods in human history.
- 0:58The beauty of noodles is their universality.
- 1:02From Italian pasta, the Japanese ramen, from Chinese Romain to
- 1:08Thai Pad Thai, from Korean Jab Chai to German spatial,
- 1:15virtually every culture has embraced noodles in their own
- 1:18unique way. These simple strands of
- 1:21unleavened dough have traveled across continents, adapted to
- 1:25local tastes, and become integral cuisines worldwide.
- 1:31What makes National Noodle Day special is that it celebrates
- 1:34this incredible diversity while recognizing a common thread.
- 1:38Noodles bring people together, their comfort food, celebration
- 1:43food, everyday food, and special occasion food all rolled up into
- 1:48one. Today's quote comes from food
- 1:51writer Ruth Weischel, who said pull up a chair, take a taste,
- 1:58come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.
- 2:02Reichl's invitation captures exactly what noodles represent
- 2:07in our collective culinary consciousness.
- 2:10Noodles are fundamentally communal food.
- 2:13Think about how we eat them. Ramen shops with their long
- 2:16communal tables. Family style Italian dinners
- 2:20with big bowls of pasta passed around.
- 2:24Asian noodle dishes shared from a common plate.
- 2:27Hot pot meals where everyone cooks their own noodles
- 2:30together. When Reichel says pull up a
- 2:32chair, she's talking about more than just eating.
- 2:36She's talking about connection, community, the way food brings
- 2:40us together and makes life richer.
- 2:43Noodles embody this perfectly. They're rarely eaten alone in
- 2:47silence. They're slurped, shared,
- 2:51celebrated and discussed. Think about the memories you
- 2:55have around noodles. Maybe it's your grandmother's
- 2:58chicken noodle soup when you were sick.
- 3:00Maybe it's a late night ramen with friends in college.
- 3:05Maybe it's that life changing bowl of pasta you had in a tiny
- 3:09restaurant in Rome. Noodles aren't just sustenance,
- 3:13they're woven into our stories, our relationships, our most
- 3:17delicious memories. Reichel understood that life's
- 3:20richness isn't found in isolation or perfection.
- 3:24It's found in Sharon tasting and joining together around tables.
- 3:29Aladdin with food that brings us joy.
- 3:33And don't forget Mac and cheese. Friend of ours makes mean Mac
- 3:37and cheese and she gave us the recipe.
- 3:39And now my daughters love making this Mac and cheese delicious.
- 3:48So today, think about Reichel's invitation and what National
- 3:52Noodle Day celebrates. How can you embrace the noodle
- 3:56spirit of connection and sharing?
- 3:59Maybe it's inviting someone to lunch instead of eating at your
- 4:02desk alone. Maybe it's cooking dinner for
- 4:04friends or family and actually sitting down together without
- 4:07devices. Maybe it's trying a new noodle
- 4:11dish from a culture you're not familiar with, expanding your
- 4:15culinary horizons. That's going to do it for today.
- 4:19Thanks for listening. I'm Anna McGivern, signing off
- 4:22for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 4:28Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
