- 0:02Welcome to Season 2 of Go Wildly podcast.
- 0:05We are Emily and Heather, 2 childhood friends who carry a
- 0:08mic into wild places like rivers, trails, and forests with
- 0:12wild people to host raw, honest conversations about adventure,
- 0:16healing, identity, and the transformative power of nature.
- 0:20In this season, we're centering the voices of people who call
- 0:23Southern Oregon home. Outdoor enthusiasts and outdoor
- 0:27professionals whose lives have been shaped, changed, or are
- 0:30continually influenced by time outside.
- 0:33Come along as together we go wildly.
- 0:40Oh. Hello.
- 0:41Hey. It's so nice to see you.
- 0:44Hi. Happy 2026.
- 0:45Oh my God, I got to get that. Oh, you got some shit in your
- 0:48teeth. Can I get it?
- 0:48It's like on your upper gum, a little piece of olive.
- 0:54Now it's actually on your tooth, you know, but it's on the side.
- 0:58They're not going to be able to see it.
- 0:59Only I can see it. Is it?
- 1:02Going to bug you. No, no, I just won't look at
- 1:04you. I could not.
- 1:06I could never not look at you. Mostly like.
- 1:10I feel it on my tongue. Now it's OK.
- 1:18Get it? It's now like tucked into your
- 1:20bottom lip. What?
- 1:22Yeah, why don't? I do that, it's moving around
- 1:29better. Is it upper or lower?
- 1:32Lower, I mean real friends. Hold on, I'll help you floss
- 1:38afterwards. Oh gosh.
- 1:48Oh God, Oh my God, over here I just ate some olive schmear.
- 1:55It was pretty good though, wasn't it?
- 1:57It was really good and right there.
- 1:59I. Know Oh my God, I literally have
- 2:03so much. You have so much olive in your
- 2:05teeth. Damn dude.
- 2:10We could have flossed before him, but it's OK, it's fine
- 2:13there. It's not going to be like all
- 2:15that visible and if it is, whatever.
- 2:17This. It won't be.
- 2:18Yeah, just to you. You're going to be looking at my
- 2:20mouth the whole time. Like anything near.
- 2:25Oh my God, that's funny. Oh, what the?
- 2:27Voice silence. That, yes, thank you.
- 2:31Did you hear me say what the fuck I was saying?
- 2:33What the fuck? Because I thought I did.
- 2:35Oh, I. Thought it was just in reaction
- 2:37to the to it making noise. Well, I guess that it is both.
- 2:43Yeah. OK.
- 2:46All right, We got to hurry. OK.
- 2:47Hello. Hello, Wildly Wonders.
- 2:50Welcome in to episode 1 of Season 2.
- 2:54That's what we're officially calling it because we know we
- 2:57kind of took a little ebb. We took a little hibernation.
- 3:01Hibernation mode. Emily was in a different country
- 3:04for how many weeks? 6 1/2. 6 1/2 weeks.
- 3:06So that was why. But anyways, if you're new here,
- 3:10I'm Heather. I'm Emily and we are go wildly
- 3:14that. Was a little rough.
- 3:15We're rusty. We're so rusty.
- 3:17OK, so yes, so we are. Take it from here.
- 3:22OK, Yeah, that's right. I'm Emily, This is Heather and
- 3:29this is our second season of Go Wildly.
- 3:32If you are new to Go Wildly, we are US and we're wild and we
- 3:38live in a wild place. We've been friends since middle
- 3:41school and though our lives took different channels over the many
- 3:45years we reconvened, we converged a couple years ago to
- 3:50create this storytelling podcast to highlight the beautiful, life
- 3:55changing stories. Fucking Jimmy, dude.
- 4:00OK, let me make sure it's done, Jimmy, just.
- 4:02Walked off. He just walked.
- 4:03Tripoded. It.
- 4:04But he's good. He's good.
- 4:07Jimmy, go lay down. He won't.
- 4:09He will eventually. But.
- 4:12He's. Good.
- 4:13We're good. We love you.
- 4:14You're. Good, Heather's just.
- 4:16Can you lay down right here? Sit.
- 4:18Not on my lap. You're not laughing right now.
- 4:21Sit. Anyways.
- 4:23Should we? Should we start over?
- 4:24Do. You want to?
- 4:26Yeah, I thought it was really a nice organic start.
- 4:30OK, I truly OK great. It was good Yeah, OK, I was
- 4:34going to take it from there. I us reconvening a couple years
- 4:38ago to start this project. I feel like we have just
- 4:41connected. It was like we didn't even we
- 4:44weren't even on different channels.
- 4:46It's such a weird feeling and I'm kind of going a little off
- 4:49on a tangent really quick here, but just like.
- 4:51Get used to it, yeah? Me and Emily's friendship, like
- 4:54while we spent like a solid 15 years kind of doing our own
- 4:58thing and but like still being connected because we both live
- 5:01in a small town and like social media these days, you it's
- 5:04really hard to like not see what anybody's up to.
- 5:07So you see what people? Are if you're sharing.
- 5:09But like, what we've grown over the past two years when we
- 5:12reconnected, I'm like, we didn't skip a beat.
- 5:15Yeah. Like I'm like, did we really
- 5:17spend 15 years of like, distant friends like crazy?
- 5:23Yeah, it was like just the right time in our lives to come back
- 5:28together and collide. And have like a really deep,
- 5:31good friendship from that. With like, with a, with a
- 5:35history, but also like, there's so many times that we've hung
- 5:37out over the last couple years that you've brought up a memory
- 5:41from our youth that I don't remember or I've brought up one
- 5:45from our youth that you don't remember.
- 5:47And so while we have a shared history, we also have lots of
- 5:50fragmented memories of our time together.
- 5:52And now we're just creating all these new memories with each
- 5:56other and building new bonds and new memories with people that
- 6:00are either familiar to just one of us or new to both of us,
- 6:04right? Right, I don't.
- 6:06Know it's been really cool. It's been a cool.
- 6:08This whole project has been really great, so we welcome
- 6:12here. Yes, it's a really fun ride here
- 6:14what we got going on and we hope you enjoy.
- 6:17And do you want to see anything else before we we got some
- 6:20bullet points? Hit today.
- 6:21Yeah, for those of you who may be new to go wildly, one of our
- 6:25new wildly Wanderers, we only do in person outdoor recording.
- 6:32One of our values is highlighting the beauty of
- 6:36nature. And since we are here telling
- 6:38outdoor stories, it just makes the most sense that we are in
- 6:43the outdoors telling these stories.
- 6:45When we thought about starting a podcast, initially we thought
- 6:47about being in a studio and both of us realized that we cannot be
- 6:51contained to a studio. Neither of us can sit inside
- 6:56looking at a screen for that long.
- 6:59And it's just like the the conversations you get into when
- 7:02you're on the river or hiking or just.
- 7:04Sitting around a campfire. Yeah, those are the best, like
- 7:08cracking into somebody. Also like the best, like bonding
- 7:11moments with people to like loop back around.
- 7:13Maybe that's why we've had such a good, deep, quick
- 7:17reconnection. It's like the outdoors does
- 7:19something to you. We got to be in it.
- 7:22Yeah, yeah. It's, it grounds you, it roots
- 7:25you, it connects you back to your innate self and to nature.
- 7:30And, and when we're telling stories about, we're telling
- 7:34stories about being outside that changed somebody's life, we
- 7:39can't do that inside. You can't do that.
- 7:41You can't feel, you can't feel it.
- 7:44We want you to be able to feel it.
- 7:45We want you to feel it, hear it, and see it.
- 7:48So what's our All of your senses are being engaged.
- 7:50Yes, our podcast Elevator Pitch is this is a podcast in the wild
- 7:55for the wild about the moments spent in the wild and we
- 8:01interview people of this region and we'll crack more into a
- 8:08little tidbit of that that we're the evolution of the podcast
- 8:11here in a little bit. But that's this podcast.
- 8:16We're we're telling everybody's most pivotal moment outside that
- 8:21they've that they've had outside.
- 8:23What's changed them? Well, like camping or hiking or
- 8:26fishing or hunting even or. Climbing trees.
- 8:30Climbing trees. What else has it been?
- 8:33Clearing trail. Playing sports even?
- 8:36Yep. Playing sports, we've had a lot
- 8:38of that rafting near death experiences.
- 8:43Wilderness Therapy. Just like all of it and how the
- 8:47outdoors did something like it. Just really that story that
- 8:51changed them. I found a lot of the stories
- 8:54that we had in last season and I think that it will continue to
- 8:57be true as we go on. But a theme that really stood
- 9:02out to me in last season was how often there was a young person,
- 9:06like aged four to seven, who was looking for freedom or a sense
- 9:12of belonging in their life and they Independence, freedom.
- 9:16Yeah. And found it outside, found it
- 9:20either within themselves outside or found community outside, or
- 9:24found it with an outdoor component with a tree or with a
- 9:28water source or with an animal outside and.
- 9:32That I think that moment that we've heard, we've heard that a
- 9:35ton of times. And then there's like this
- 9:38little invisible string theory that has LED them into what they
- 9:41do as almost like a career or an obsession hobby in their adult
- 9:47life. And that's kind of what we're
- 9:49here to expose that like thread from like outdoor moments and
- 9:54childhood that stemmed into like, what they do now.
- 9:58And they're like purpose and pillars, Yeah, in their lives
- 10:02now. How quickly, how quickly and how
- 10:04young it became it came to them and how they've really
- 10:07fulfilled, like the childhood, the childhood dream.
- 10:11Yeah, it's so cool. Love that.
- 10:14That was a strung out elevator pitch, but that is what it's all
- 10:17about here and that's what we're here to share.
- 10:19Yeah, we are. Also a thing to know about us is
- 10:22that we are essentially unedited, not only our our
- 10:26language and our conversation. We are not in a studio cutting
- 10:32and pasting what's being said. And really because like I said,
- 10:35we want to spend as little time sitting in front of a computer
- 10:38as possible. We shoot our episodes in one
- 10:41take and it's unless the battery dies or we say something like
- 10:49really private or like specifically private.
- 10:53To do this season because we found that there's a lot of
- 10:57trying to find the needle in the haystack and editing.
- 11:01Yeah, And it sometimes gets forgotten about.
- 11:03Yep. So we don't want to.
- 11:05Anyway, so these are these are like one take recordings.
- 11:09We don't we, yeah, we're completely unscripted.
- 11:12We have a guide, we follow a structure.
- 11:16But really what is happening here live is what you are going
- 11:22to be watching and listening. And yes, that's the birds in the
- 11:26background and the boats floating by and whatever comes
- 11:31up between US and whoever we have.
- 11:33So we will occasionally do episodes that are just us, where
- 11:37we'll kind of recap and touch base and just talk about Heather
- 11:41and I, but the majority of our episodes will feature another
- 11:45guest telling their story. Right, right.
- 11:48And then we have so in this episode today, this is episode 1
- 11:53of season 2, but it's just going to be in line.
- 11:57So it'll be what? Where are we at episode like 16
- 12:01or? Something like that.
- 12:02Anyway, I don't go, don't quote me on that.
- 12:04I don't know, but it'll be in line because that's what
- 12:06algorithm likes. But this is technically episode
- 12:10one of our new season. And so in today's episode, we're
- 12:15really kind of recapping what happened last year, doing some
- 12:18reminiscing on some episodes here and there and stuff, and
- 12:22then what we did in the offseason cuz Emily was gone.
- 12:26And Heather made a huge career advancement.
- 12:28I did, thank God. And then we'll talk about the
- 12:32Season 2 and upcoming stuffs we have planned, and then we'll
- 12:36just do a nice little like goodbyes.
- 12:38Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:39OK, so let's talk about last season.
- 12:42Yeah. Cool.
- 12:43It was such a learning curve. Yeah, lots and lots of editing.
- 12:49And then also like kind of a rejection of the editing that I
- 12:53think was our biggest lesson was we don't want to spend time
- 12:58editing, cutting and pasting, recreating what was happening
- 13:02live. And it was a lot of the very
- 13:05first recording that we went out and did.
- 13:07We were out recording for like 4 or five hours and it turned into
- 13:12a 2 episode production and took up our whole day with one
- 13:17person. It was fun.
- 13:18We saw, we went on a great, we had amazing conversation, but it
- 13:22is not sustainable for the long term productivity of our sanity
- 13:29and of the producing of this podcast.
- 13:31And I think just like any good show, even on TV, it's like you
- 13:36have a pilot episode to kind of work out the kinks, get better
- 13:39at acting. Sometimes you have a whole pilot
- 13:41season. A whole, you know, Yeah, well,
- 13:43this is that would be the pilot season.
- 13:45So even though there's some such great Nuggets, we learned so
- 13:48much and what works and what doesn't work and so.
- 13:52And it wasn't, I think until our third recording session that we
- 13:58actually came up with the structure that we wanted to
- 14:01follow. And so each time that we've gone
- 14:04out on a recording session, we've refined our craft.
- 14:07We've we've refined our structure so much more.
- 14:10And that's part of what makes us really excited for the evolution
- 14:14coming into 2026. But it really, it was just so
- 14:18much fun. It was so much fun to learn and
- 14:20so much fun to like kind of meet people that we already knew.
- 14:27But in a different light. It was like in a different
- 14:29space. We're really trying to work out
- 14:32how we speak to. Emily's already really good at
- 14:35that. I feel like I was honing that in
- 14:38and stuff. Still always am.
- 14:39That's always. We're always a work in progress.
- 14:41But yeah, it was just so much. I want to say too, that like we
- 14:48kept having epiphanies along the way.
- 14:50Like episode 3, we had like epiphany driving out to our
- 14:53location where we're like, this is what the podcast needs to be.
- 14:56And we've like we have followed this, the signs, so to speak.
- 14:59Like if somebody was driving down a dirt road and you're just
- 15:03driving or you're hiking down a dirt road or pat trail, it's
- 15:06like you're taking the signs, you're taking those signs from
- 15:10God and like. Just following our intuition and
- 15:13what sparks and asking asking questions of the spirit world
- 15:19and and saying non. Denominational.
- 15:22Yeah, yeah. I mean, we, I, we've talked in a
- 15:25couple of episodes about the influence of my dearly departed,
- 15:29deceased father and how he has guided this process.
- 15:33He was a guide in his life and he's a guide to us now in this
- 15:36podcast and Emily's world indefinitely.
- 15:40Yeah, Oh yeah, Infinity, Infinity.
- 15:42He is eternal even though his physical presence.
- 15:44Anyway, so we've been really taking signs from Gap and
- 15:50listening to him. When he says turn, we've been
- 15:52turning. And when he says you're doing
- 15:54the right thing, we keep doing that right thing.
- 15:56Yeah, and we've really, we really did that from episode
- 16:00well from all season. I felt like there was a little
- 16:02progressions of sign turning each one.
- 16:05Do you have a core episode that you're just super proud of and
- 16:09love so much of last year? I was going to ask you that too.
- 16:12Really. Yeah, because when I, when I
- 16:16tell people about the podcast who don't know me, listen to
- 16:19this one, which I was doing while I was in Europe for 6 1/2
- 16:23weeks, and they would say which one's your favorite?
- 16:26You know, it is really hard to choose.
- 16:28Like it's like, I would assume choosing who your favorite child
- 16:31is because all, every episode is like this little love baby that
- 16:36we've made. But I, I think that my favorite
- 16:43or my most like the one that I think I feel the most proud of
- 16:48was is Miguel's episode, The Wildland Firefighter, because
- 16:55I've I was gently coaxing him into agreeing to do an episode
- 17:03for a while. And when he finally agreed to
- 17:08it, I just felt like he he bloomed, like I watching him
- 17:14just blossom in in the space and in his story and in the feedback
- 17:20that I heard from his family about it, about how they were
- 17:25awakened to the reality of him that they weren't aware of and
- 17:33how much it grew their the depth of their love for him.
- 17:38And I just thought it was so special that he was, he was
- 17:43resistant and he was wary and he was nervous and he kind of felt
- 17:47like he didn't have a story to tell.
- 17:49Oh. He had such a.
- 17:51Story and then yeah outcomes this like.
- 17:53Shout out Miguel. Tear jerking, profound,
- 17:56beautiful, transformative story. And I'm I'm so proud of him and
- 18:04I'm so proud of that we got to facilitate that and, and like
- 18:11the container that we have to be able to bring this out of
- 18:14people. And I think that is something
- 18:16that is, there's so many special things about this podcast and
- 18:19about what we get to do, but that is probably the top, in the
- 18:24top three things that I'm most proud of that we get to do is
- 18:30find people who don't think that they have a story and then find
- 18:34that they have the best fucking story they do.
- 18:38Yeah. What about you?
- 18:42I think Betty's episode really hit me.
- 18:45Yeah, probably because it is the first one, but it was, I don't
- 18:51know, I just felt like it was a really well-rounded episode,
- 18:56even though it was the first one, we were still we're on the
- 18:58good path. Well, it was the first one that
- 19:00we released, but it was the first one that we followed our
- 19:03newly found structure. It was on the way to that
- 19:07episode that we came up with our this is how we want to structure
- 19:11the pod. And so we told her, OK, this is
- 19:13what we're going to try today. And it was the first I just
- 19:16felt. Like it was really like we were
- 19:20all vibing with each other too. So it's a really good one.
- 19:22I also really liked the Hunter's episode.
- 19:26Yeah, lately it was. It was good.
- 19:30It was a good. Episode it was so fun to
- 19:32reconnect a St. like again, reconnect with somebody that we
- 19:36knew but also really didn't know, like we have some kind of
- 19:41shared history with, but all pretty superficial.
- 19:45And then we we got to meet him in who he is now.
- 19:49That was cool. It was so cool.
- 19:50Yeah, that was a really cool. I just love the like trill.
- 19:55I'm just like a big like, oh, that sounds.
- 19:57It's like really neat. It's a really neat thing.
- 20:00Yeah. Anyway, yeah, those are some.
- 20:05I love it. Yeah.
- 20:06I mean, like, yeah, it's it really is just so hard to
- 20:09choose. I could go through every episode
- 20:11and be like, this one was so cool for this reason, and this
- 20:14one was because of this. I mean, like Gabe's episode was
- 20:18so cool. It was so rich with like value,
- 20:22value and knowledge and just realism.
- 20:26And I loved Paris's episode because of the variety of
- 20:33emotional experiences and the reflections that I saw her
- 20:39having and the like, the movement that we had, the
- 20:44floating on the boat and. Was that our first boat episode?
- 20:48We had floated with Kate, but I forgot the cord.
- 20:52So yeah, I think that might have been our first floating episode
- 20:58cuz I'm, yeah, we, we actually recorded with Kate afterwards.
- 21:02And I loved Kate's episode because she was also somebody
- 21:05that was like lives a pretty private life and doesn't really
- 21:09share her life story very often, if at all.
- 21:13And so if it's such an honor to get to, for her to agree to do
- 21:19this and to share her story and for it to be so unique and wild
- 21:26and, and like traumatizing, but also she's such a resilient,
- 21:34strong person who has built this incredible creative life.
- 21:39Yeah, and it was a little like off the beaten path too.
- 21:41It was totally like with her art and stuff.
- 21:44It was taking a whole new, I don't know, like subject turn
- 21:50for us, you know, like we've been we had been talking to
- 21:53people that like mostly about the outdoors.
- 21:54And while hers is very much rooted in the outdoors, her art
- 21:58took it just the art path, you know, and like she got to talk
- 22:01about how she became an artist and and then her like TV show
- 22:04she was in and. Like and being in a like a bad
- 22:08kids school that was. Oh my God, yeah, that was it.
- 22:12It was just so. And we had snacks on that
- 22:15episode. We did.
- 22:16We had some river charcuterie. Yeah.
- 22:18Love us some river charcuterie. So yeah, I don't know.
- 22:24Yeah, but. Really like episode every
- 22:26episode has been so unique. It's.
- 22:28Own baby. It's own little baby for sure.
- 22:30Yeah, yeah, there's been similar, similar threads and
- 22:34similar structure, but every single one has been so unique
- 22:39and special. Yeah, I also think just like
- 22:41recording this podcast in general has really helped
- 22:46blossom my like curious gene and like, you know, really like hone
- 22:51in my questions and answer receiving and how to like carry
- 22:56on and like get more deeper information about something and
- 22:59really like ask those right questions and like exercise that
- 23:02muscle because it's a total muscle to carry a conversation.
- 23:05On and. If you don't practice, you don't
- 23:08get better. Yeah, you got to practice.
- 23:09Yeah, that was so I was at a did you see that little yoga video
- 23:14that I shared that I was in the the caption of it was if you
- 23:18don't practice, you don't get better.
- 23:20Yeah, you don't. And that's why we're continuing
- 23:22and it's gonna be Season 2. It's.
- 23:24Gonna be. Great.
- 23:26Let's recap on your just quickly cuz I'm running a little running
- 23:30out of time. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:32Yeah, What were we doing in the offseason?
- 23:33Well. Emily had a big trip that she
- 23:37had hopes to do some recording but ended up just being a.
- 23:41Yeah, I had like soft hopes and I was prepared with the
- 23:46equipment to be able to do some recording.
- 23:49We. Even filmed an episode that
- 23:50would feature her in but we ended up it's it'll be a bonus
- 23:55type of maybe even. Yeah, maybe we'll steal some
- 23:57sound bites out of it, but yeah, we did like a preemie traveling
- 24:03little recording that. Never came to fruition.
- 24:05But that's what. Happens.
- 24:06That's literally the name of the game here.
- 24:08Yeah, we've done. We've recorded more than what
- 24:10we've produced because some things just don't, don't make it
- 24:15to copy, Yeah. I do really, I do really like
- 24:19the structure too. Just to recap on how we ended up
- 24:22taking like an organic break. I think it was very needed.
- 24:25And I know that we've said that we're you know, we're going to
- 24:28episode, the episode will drop every blah, blah, blah or every,
- 24:31you know, whenever. But like we really kind of like
- 24:33it petered off and stuff and then we were just like, let's
- 24:36take a break. That's what was needed because
- 24:38it's hard to bank up episodes and we also live wildly lives
- 24:44and that's just is what it is. And part of what makes this
- 24:48podcast sustainable for us is that we aren't putting pressure
- 24:52on ourselves to produce something based on somebody
- 24:57else's expectations of it. That we're, we're doing this for
- 25:01you and for our guests, but really we do it for us in a way
- 25:05that feels good to us and our energy and our timeline and, and
- 25:10all the other competitive priorities that exist in our
- 25:14lives. And we know that if we were to
- 25:17get to a point where this, where we were feeling like pressured,
- 25:21we would burn out so fast. And we don't want that to
- 25:24happen. So we have to give ourselves
- 25:26grace and treat ourselves and this baby product with with love
- 25:32and respect and tenderness so that we can keep doing it.
- 25:37Yeah, so. Sorry to kind of tangent off on
- 25:40that, but how was Europe? It was really good.
- 25:44I went with a one way ticket originally my I had four weeks
- 25:49kind of planned out. Originally the idea was that I
- 25:52was going to go with a friend who wanted to go to Europe after
- 25:56she graduated college and she wanted to go on a European
- 25:59adventure to celebrate being done with school.
- 26:02And so I and she invited me and I was an absolute yes.
- 26:08And so I started to put some feelers out on how I would get
- 26:12there and what I would do. And she didn't really have a a
- 26:15specific date or time, just that it was going to be in the fall.
- 26:19And my so my best friend from child childhood, we've been
- 26:24friends since we were two years old.
- 26:26She moved to Portugal several years ago.
- 26:29And she gave me Yeah, yeah, we went to middle school, high
- 26:35school together. But we grew up like 4 doors away
- 26:39from each other as little, little tiny children.
- 26:42And so yeah, she moved to Portugal a few years ago and she
- 26:45gave me a pretty open-ended, like open invitation to come
- 26:48visit any time. And so I saw my opportunity to
- 26:53do that and then. I'm really glad you did.
- 26:57She's. Me too, she's so cool.
- 26:59She's so cool. I would have loved to feature
- 27:03her in an episode and I have the utmost respect for her and her
- 27:06lifestyle that she chose not to. She does not want her life on
- 27:12YouTube or on the Internet. She doesn't want it promoted or
- 27:14projected. And I so wholeheartedly respect
- 27:18her for that because if I went through life, I wouldn't want it
- 27:21on the Internet too because it is so cool and unique and I'm
- 27:26I'm so proud of her and inspired by her and she's just fucking
- 27:30rad. Will she be listening to this?
- 27:32I hope so. Shout out Jade.
- 27:34She is one of She does subscribe on YouTube so.
- 27:37Hopefully one day I'll make it over to say hello.
- 27:41So that was kind of my like jumping off point was, OK, I'm
- 27:44going to go visit her. I know that.
- 27:46And then I was invited to go on a cruise out of Barcelona and do
- 27:52Barcelona, the Canary Islands, Morocco.
- 27:56And I've never I've never done a cruise before.
- 27:58But the opportunity presented itself.
- 28:00Agree. I put it and say no with episode
- 28:022 Rihanna. That was such a good episode.
- 28:06That was such a good episode. I know.
- 28:09So freaking cool. And I wanna have her back.
- 28:10Me too. Yeah.
- 28:11She's, like we said in that episode, like we could do a
- 28:14whole season just of her life. The hike was so epic.
- 28:18I was like, my God, I have to be back here like every day.
- 28:22Like I just wanna live on that fucking view.
- 28:25Excuse me, burp one. Every part of that episode was
- 28:29so inspiring and cool. So go watch all of our episodes,
- 28:34obviously. So yeah, Rihanna.
- 28:37Rihanna and two of her aunts invited me on this cruise.
- 28:41And that had a specific start and end date.
- 28:44So then I started to build my trip around that.
- 28:46And I decided, OK, I'm going to go visit Jade in Portugal for
- 28:50two weeks before the cruise and then I'll do 12 days on the
- 28:53cruise. And then I was open-ended after
- 28:55that, and I spent the first two weeks up in northern Portugal in
- 29:02a little tiny village pretty much by myself, walking around
- 29:06in the forest and cooking food and sitting by a wood stove.
- 29:12And, and while, yeah, I did have like an idea that I would look
- 29:18for people to record a podcast with in this little village I
- 29:22was in, I saw maybe like 7 people in a day and really
- 29:27nobody spoke English. And so I became pretty quickly
- 29:32recognized that that wasn't what the energy of the trip was.
- 29:36I was meant to be there by myself, in quiet, in reflection,
- 29:42and really to have the first opportunity in like 351012 years
- 29:51of actual solitude with myself to process and integrate all of
- 29:57the trauma and lessons that I've been experiencing over the last
- 30:02few years. And it actually give myself
- 30:05space to cry and feel and release a lot of shit that I've
- 30:12been carrying and that I've talked about.
- 30:15I've like openly talked about in lots of spaces but haven't
- 30:19actually just been able to sit and feel it.
- 30:22Needed an extra layer of just like removing from the box so
- 30:26you could process and wrap that box differently.
- 30:29And do it for me, like so much of the telling of the story of
- 30:33it. I'm telling a story to and for
- 30:35somebody else, but for me to actually just sit and be like,
- 30:39whoa, what was that like for me? What am I still holding on to?
- 30:44What? What are all the thoughts that
- 30:46still are spiraling in my head around this, that and the other
- 30:52thing? And I did very intentional
- 30:57journaling and guided breath work and quiet intuitive walking
- 31:03in the forest and really got back in touch with myself.
- 31:09And then I spent 12 days on a cruise and I got really sick
- 31:13with like everything under the sun.
- 31:16And that was a sure sign to me that I was not meant to be on a
- 31:19cruise ship and I needed to go back to be alone in nature.
- 31:25So I got off when the cruise ended, I got off the cruise and
- 31:28I went and spent like 5 days outside.
- 31:31I went back to Portugal. I was just feeling really called
- 31:34to be in Portugal. And so I went back to Portugal
- 31:39and I spent like 5 days. Did you take?
- 31:41A train there or did you? Fly.
- 31:43I flew, yeah. The train would have been just
- 31:45longer than I wanted to. And it was cheaper to fly,
- 31:48actually. Pretty far, yeah.
- 31:52So yeah, flew. I flew from Portugal to Spain
- 31:56for the cruise and then back to Portugal for nature time.
- 31:59And I spent like 5 days on the coast just outside Lisbon in a
- 32:05small, another little, small village called Trafaria.
- 32:09And it was next, like next along the Bay Ocean to this really
- 32:15cute little beach town, Costa de Capri, Rica.
- 32:18And I spent like every day just walking in nature and walking on
- 32:22the beach and just being quiet and alone.
- 32:25And I did a surf lesson and hung out in the rain and in the sun.
- 32:30And I climbed trees and was just like being wild in nature by
- 32:34myself. And then and then I went and
- 32:38spent a week on an olive farm, dog sitting in a eucalyptus
- 32:44forest. So olive farm was in a
- 32:46eucalyptus forest and I was dog sitting for this English guy who
- 32:52had to go back to England for a week to take care of his elderly
- 32:55mother. And I dog sat for him for that
- 32:58week. And I kind of again, just like
- 33:01alone in the forest with a wood stove and taking nature walks
- 33:05and intentionally crying and journaling and moving.
- 33:10And towards the end of that week, I was still open-ended.
- 33:15And towards the end of that week, I just felt like so much
- 33:19lighter and ready to come home and excited to come home and
- 33:24eager to jump into home life and home projects and work and and
- 33:31work, work that I love and enjoy.
- 33:33Yeah, like work is a weird word that Jade and I talked a lot
- 33:36about how like the word work doesn't actually feel like it
- 33:39reflects the way that we interact in the world and make
- 33:44money. Because I love everything that I
- 33:47do. It doesn't like, yeah, it's hard
- 33:50work. There's there's labor involved,
- 33:52but it doesn't feel like. Work.
- 33:55I don't. I don't dread anything that I
- 33:58do. Yeah, let the word.
- 33:59Work. I'm trying to find a new word.
- 34:01It's hard because you're like, well, what else does explain it?
- 34:03Yeah, like labor tasks even like, I don't know, it's busy.
- 34:08Yeah, but the even busy isn't the right word.
- 34:10I say I'm full, like my life is very full.
- 34:13That's. Cool, that's a good way to put
- 34:15it in full but full rot now. Yeah, we'd had a nice a nice pre
- 34:19recording snack. I got to get rolling so.
- 34:23Well, let's then you want me to stop talking?
- 34:25Is that what you're saying? Well I'm just showing you what
- 34:28time it is. I gotta I have a showing to go
- 34:31show client. Yeah, so good segue.
- 34:32Yeah, well, let me finish real quick.
- 34:34Yeah, I felt ready to come home. And now I'm home and I'm loving
- 34:37being home and I'm so excited for everything that I have in
- 34:40store for this year and the years to come.
- 34:42And Heather had a wonderful offseason as well.
- 34:46Yes. And I'm sorry to do that too.
- 34:47I'm sorry. Apologize to them I'm.
- 34:50Sorry guys. I'm sorry that I have a little
- 34:52bit of a time constraint. Me and Emily always pre record
- 34:56in just a hangout session that we're just like procrastinating
- 35:00getting our asses in front of the camera, which that's what
- 35:04that's. Yeah, that's OK.
- 35:05Which is great for you because everybody's attention span is a
- 35:09little bit smaller, I feel like. So a little shorter, yeah.
- 35:12Anyway. But tell us what you did in the
- 35:14offseason real quick before while this motorboat goes by I.
- 35:17Was being a badass real estate agent.
- 35:21Yeah, anyway, I did. Three houses.
- 35:24We sold three houses. I sold three houses almost.
- 35:26A fourth, but we terminated anyway.
- 35:28It feels and I know I've I think I've talked about this in
- 35:31another episode. Maybe I don't know, maybe that
- 35:33was the one that we're not going to release, but like whatever.
- 35:36I feel so full circle with like accomplishing something that's I
- 35:44needed to find a way to make money and find something that
- 35:48fit me. And I feel so aligned with
- 35:52selling real estate at this moment in time.
- 35:55It just is really. I like it.
- 35:57I like it. I like the reward, I like the
- 36:00people, I like the houses, I like the everything.
- 36:04The puzzle of all of it. I do I it is a very much hold on
- 36:08a second. The joys of being outside.
- 36:14Somebody's on the river. Yep, recreating.
- 36:16We love river users. We do.
- 36:19Oh, that was the sheriff. No, no, no.
- 36:21OK. I thought I've been no.
- 36:24And yeah. So that was that's literally
- 36:28what I was working on while Emily, Emily was gone.
- 36:30Just like just working on the craft of, you know, it's not
- 36:35really like I'm not really selling anything.
- 36:37I don't feel like, like I don't want it to feel like I'm selling
- 36:40people. I'm not selling anything.
- 36:41They already want it. They.
- 36:42Already want it. It's more of just like, this is
- 36:44about people and I'm about people.
- 36:48Therefore I feel very aligned with this work because I it's
- 36:53not really a house game, it's a people game.
- 36:55If you're taking care of your people in it and you're sitting
- 36:58in integrity while helping them find their home and they're
- 37:04arguably one of the biggest financial decisions they'll make
- 37:07in their life. Maybe they'll make a few
- 37:08hopefully, but like, this is my calling if it feels so good.
- 37:14So awesome. In alignment of like helping
- 37:16people settle, being transparent with the process.
- 37:20I just had a meeting today with a girlfriend of mine.
- 37:24She's going to be putting her house on the market and she was
- 37:26like, explain, can you explain to me how this will work, blah,
- 37:29blah, blah. And she's like, Oh my God.
- 37:32She had her house listed last year with we call them discount
- 37:36brokers, but just like in a broker that has its own their
- 37:39own brokerage and tries to do things on their own.
- 37:41I work for a big company Re/max and she's like Oh my God I he
- 37:48made. It make sense?
- 37:49I made it make sense to her and that I'm like, amazing, awesome.
- 37:56I'm so glad that you're feeling. She's like, I'm feeling so much
- 37:58better. Like that makes so much more
- 38:00sense. Like how people do things and
- 38:02how that works and how repairs work.
- 38:05Because she needs a new roof on her house and it's like, OK, how
- 38:07are we going to do that without her needing to go into a debt
- 38:10essentially? Well, there's equity in her
- 38:12house and we can do that still. And she was just so grateful.
- 38:16She was just like, I could saw the light bulb moment happen
- 38:18with her. And I'm like, I'm so happy that
- 38:21I'm in this position to help you and uncover for you and make it
- 38:24make sense. And that's what I'm doing.
- 38:25I feel like I'm making it make sense to people while still
- 38:28learning and refining the trade of like negotiating and like
- 38:32trying to get people good deals and, you know, working with
- 38:35people. But I'm finding that there's a
- 38:37lot of agents that don't do that.
- 38:41I just pulled a little You get to fill in, you do.
- 38:43It isn't being filled. And it just feels really good.
- 38:45So for me, it's about the people and the reward of that obviously
- 38:50is a nice Commission. But like it feels all really
- 38:54well-rounded and that's what I love about it.
- 38:56I love it. So that's what I was working on
- 38:58and I feel already very grateful.
- 39:00I'm almost six months in and so three houses, six months maybe
- 39:05like, well, it was gonna be a fourth we, but I'm still working
- 39:08with those clients and they're wonderful.
- 39:10And that's who I'm meeting in 7 minutes or 8, or, yeah, 7, no, 6
- 39:15minutes. Well, all right.
- 39:17I'm so proud of you. I think that proud of you.
- 39:20Look at all the work you've done you.
- 39:21Too. This was a year, all the work
- 39:23we're doing. Yay.
- 39:26This was a good year and let's talk a little bit really quick I
- 39:29can. OK, I can be so.
- 39:30They're my friends. I've literally made friends with
- 39:32strangers and they're like, we exchanged presents for
- 39:36Christmas. We hang out like.
- 39:38They're and when you tell them, sorry, I was recording my first
- 39:40little podcast episode of the season, they'll be like, when
- 39:42does it come out? When do we get?
- 39:43To see it, they will. They will.
- 39:45Come here. So we're getting real excited
- 39:48for this season. In our in our reflections, we
- 39:55found that and in in this evolution of the podcast, you
- 40:01know, like we've said, we are really rooted here in Southern
- 40:04Oregon and our lives are full and busy here.
- 40:08And while we have connections to incredible people throughout the
- 40:14region and the state and the country, we are finding that
- 40:19overwhelmingly the stories that exist already here in the people
- 40:24in Southern Oregon. Are enough and are amazing and
- 40:29profound and we love this place. And there are so many stories
- 40:34about why people are here, why they choose to live here, why
- 40:38their lives brought them here, that are worth telling.
- 40:41So this season is really going to be focused on the stories of
- 40:46Southern Oregon and the stories of the people who eat, sleep,
- 40:50breathe, live in the outdoors and Southern Oregon.
- 40:53Yeah. So I want to also add that it's
- 40:55just we're just adding a layer. We're going to be talking about
- 40:58all those profound moments in the outdoors that change people
- 41:02still uncovering that thread from childhood to what they do
- 41:06now, but also adding in that layer of Southern Oregon now and
- 41:10asking some questions around that.
- 41:11Why do you stay here? Why do you what, what do you
- 41:14love here? You know what?
- 41:16What is it about this place? What happened?
- 41:18Yeah, what what brought you here and why why do you choose to
- 41:21stay here? Right, right.
- 41:23Having grown up here, there's often been this like story about
- 41:29the area that the nature is beautiful, but the people
- 41:33aren't. And we're here to say no, no,
- 41:36no, the nature is beautiful and the people absolutely are.
- 41:40There are some of the most amazing, interesting, beautiful
- 41:45people who live here that we get to call our friends and our
- 41:48neighbors and our community members.
- 41:50And not only are we going to tell their story, but we're
- 41:54going to be telling the stories of Southern Oregon.
- 41:56Still in the outdoors, still revolving around outdoor.
- 42:01Everything. Everything just now an added
- 42:04layer of staying here because our original goal was to like
- 42:07broaden the horizon and like try to do some trips to bend to link
- 42:10up with people or more just centralized area.
- 42:13But now we're finding we're just going to hone it into here.
- 42:15We'll see where the path takes us, where Gab wants us to go
- 42:18next. But yeah, focusing in here.
- 42:20So just adding that extra layer. Emily had that epiphany last
- 42:24night and this morning and she brought it to me, or she's
- 42:28mentioned it and I was like, yes.
- 42:30Yeah. Yeah, and it's great.
- 42:32It makes so much sense. So that's what you have to look
- 42:34forward to. Just more like, I don't know,
- 42:38just more layers, more layers. Still still the all wildly.
- 42:42Yes, yeah. And because we're going to
- 42:45continue to grow, because this is just a baby, every season
- 42:48will bring some some new epiphany and some new lesson.
- 42:51And it'll always be the same thread.
- 42:54But. And I think our we'll probably
- 42:56have another offseason next winter to yeah, cuz Emily has a
- 43:00pretty strict summer schedule. And I usually need a break in
- 43:06the winter. To maybe an up and coming like
- 43:09hiking club thing to be on the horizon if you wanna like hike
- 43:13with us in the mornings. Me, me and Emily.
- 43:18Or just maybe Emily or just me or whatever, we're gonna explore
- 43:21those ideas of. There's more community building
- 43:23around the podcast, too. We wanna say to follow us on all
- 43:28of our social media for updates, but most likely most of the
- 43:32updates will come in the episodes.
- 43:34So like, follow, share, subscribe, get your friends
- 43:39listening. And if you know people in
- 43:41Southern Oregon, if you don't live in Southern Oregon and you
- 43:43know people in Southern Oregon who would make great guests and
- 43:46great listeners, please send them our way.
- 43:48Also, I'd like to ask if you know any small business owners
- 43:52that you think are aligned with this mission?
- 43:54We are going to be. We are open for sponsors.
- 43:57Yeah, we're gonna be vision around for our next how to like
- 44:02monetize this a little bit and work on that whole realm of
- 44:06project and business around the podcast as well.
- 44:09So if there's anybody that has any niche gadget, outdoor
- 44:13service or outdoor gear or anything that you think would be
- 44:18paired, no alcohol, we are down. You're welcome.
- 44:22I don't really drink either, so it's not a big deal.
- 44:24But we're looking for those people that really align that
- 44:28wanna do some sort of a sponsorship and we have a bunch
- 44:30of ideas for that. So it doesn't just have to be
- 44:32like a big monetary lump sum or anything like that, even though
- 44:35that would be such a blessing. It would be more of just what we
- 44:39could collaborate on. Yeah, right now we've done all
- 44:42of this just out of our own time and money and free will, and we
- 44:48really would like to make this be financially sustainable so
- 44:52that this can be at least my full time job and help pay the
- 44:57bills. And I think we do have a goal
- 44:58also of like maybe starting a Patreon with some added stuff,
- 45:02maybe like even deeper discount codes.
