Uh, welcome to the program, everybody. It's the Full Spectrum Cycling thing with, uh, Sven, JK- Hello, hello... and Tony Berger. Buenos noches. Hey, it's show number 40. 40. 40. Oh.
• 0:32
And even though- We shoulda had 40s... Lordy. Lordy, Lordy... holy fail. Oh. Oh, man, 40s would've been the way to go. Could've played Edward's 40 Hands. [laughs] A little Schlitz, little Schlitz malt liquor.
• 0:42
[laughs] Oh, yeah, King Cobra or [groans] Put it in a bag and- St. Ides... holiday. Yeah. Ooh, yeah, there you go. Private Stock. Right on, right on. There were a handful. Those were formative, [sighs]
• 0:57
college dorm years. [laughs] So, uh, even though our fine listener is hearing this on its normal day, we're, we're actually a day later. Yes, indeed. Hour shorter. 'Cause, uh, yesterday was, uh, Xmas. Xmas. Yeah.
• 1:11
Anybody, w- anybody get any cycling stuff for Christmas? Some gloves. Right on. Oh. I- Got some, some gloves that work out very nicely for this kind of weather is 62-degree weather... well, yeah.
• 1:24
[laughs] Did you call it 62 over here? It was 62. It was 58 by me, but- Yeah... holy crap. Yeah, it's definitely not your typical December weather here- Oh, yeah... in Wisconsin.
• 1:33
Maybe, uh, the less- And then yesterday, had the door open, had a fire outside- Yeah... and, like, just grilled out [laughs] as well. I know last time we did this show it was nine. [laughs] Nine degrees. Nine. Wow.
• 1:47
So, d- your, uh, significant others or families just, they don't buy you cycling stuff because they know better and you just get what you need, or do they just...? Uh, kind of. Kind of.
• 1:59
Unless it's something that they just can't pass up and it's l- like a knick-knack- Yeah, it's lighting... lighting system or... Yeah. Art for me, yeah. Cycling art. Cycling art? I like that idea.
• 2:09
That's not something I would probably normally buy for myself, but, uh, you know, clothing or accessories, I- She-- My wife won't even think about it. She'll like, "Just go get your own clothes."
• 2:17
[laughs] Kinda curious what other folks out there got for their Christmas goodies. I know, uh- Put it in the notes, put it in the notes... I know Dave, Mr., uh, Ludden's got something very nice on his couch.
• 2:28
I'd say, I'd say. [laughs] Yeah. What was that, the super, super fast? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. The Gulf colored super fast. Two speed. Two speed auto shift.
• 2:37
Kinda Dina picked it up for him and then just took it over to his house and threw it on his couch. [laughs] Dina, if you wanna throw something on my couch, I'm, uh, generally a 53. [laughs] Right on. No, just saying.
• 2:52
Just saying. So, Molly and I- Yeah... uh, Molly and I said no gifts this year. No gifts. Well,
• 2:59
had to get her one gift, and I was too excited so I just told her, I'm like, "Hey, I know we said no gifts, but I got us tickets to Shellac." Oh, nice, nice.
• 3:08
And she looked at me dead in the face and she said, "I know we said no gifts. I got you tickets to Shellac." [laughs] So now we have four tickets to Shellac. [laughs] Well, that's, that's quite a ways off, isn't it?
• 3:19
Uh, March- March what?... 12th. Yeah, two days after my mom's birthday. Oh, it's gonna be a f- I've seen Shellac a bunch. It's never a bad time, and at Turner Hall. [laughs] Yeah, they just did the venue change- Yes...
• 3:32
'cause I think it was- What?... supposed to be Pabst. Yeah. No, it was supposed to be the Bagermi Collectible. Oh, no. That's why they sold out immediately. Oh, okay, okay.
• 3:39
[laughs] That makes- It's like what can they hold in there, like 45? [laughs] We could put more people in this shop. [laughs] Shellac at the shop. Sh- Oh, Shellac at the shop. [laughs] Are you listening, Steve?
• 3:51
[laughs] Mr. Albini's gonna be- Mr. Albini, pl- please, please pick up the phone. [laughs] Anywho. So it's a week before Fatter By The Lake. That's coming up.
• 4:04
And the jump in the lake, people, this week- Oh, yeah, let's talk about that first... Tuesday. The annual use of picture ride. Yes. If you're in Milwaukee, that's what you need to look up to find out where the, the
• 4:14
Everyday Cycles crew and, uh, some fatbike.com folk and whatnot are gonna go watch the dips do the dip at the Polar Bear Plunge. You know, they have a lot less beach this year. [laughs] Holy cow. Yeah, yeah. Holy cow.
• 4:27
But they don't have any ice yet, so. Right, and they're not gonna have any. I don't think so. No, no. It's still looking like 50s-ish. Oh, I saw 38, but even that's- Yeah... pretty nice to walk in the water.
• 4:36
It's still pretty nice. You know? It's still pretty nice. I bet they get a big turnout. I think they'll be huge. Yoge. Huge. Yep. So that is, uh, starting at Nomad on Brady Street, 10:00, 11:00, somewhere in there.
• 4:50
Yeah, most likely. I mean, I'm sure they're gonna be open early. Oh, they're gonna be open early for sure. All night. Way... Oh, yeah, they... Yeah, 'cause they have- It's all night...
• 4:56
yeah, they have Paul H, I think- Yeah... doing the DJing overnight. Oh, I haven't even looked at New Year's Eve festivities. I always just wait- [laughs]... for New Year's Day proper. Yeah, me too. Exactly.
• 5:06
[laughs] Jamaican crab legs as usual. Speaking of crab legs- Big old baked potatoes... I got some jerky. [laughs] What kind? But it's, but it's not crab jerky.
• 5:15
[laughs] Yeah, it's funny 'cause I went to Helds to get some jerky for family at Christmas, and they were out of every jerky I wanted, so I had to buy other jerkies, not that I'm complaining.
• 5:23
[laughs] But it was like, "Holy crap, you're out of ghost pepper. You're out of Jamaican hot. You're out of hot sticks. You're out of Cajun." Well, he's like, "Yeah, it's been a good one." This is just teriyaki.
• 5:35
[laughs] Oh, look at that. No. That's, it's like a piece of tree bark. I will take a quarter of that. [laughs] That's like, yeah, that's, that's... Yes, that I'll take. That I'll take. What do we got here? What country?
• 5:47
Teriyaki. Oh, it's a good one. Teriyaki. Yes, I mostly buy there. Couple weeks ago on the way up to Stevens Point, where they still had snow. I doubt they have any snow left there.
• 5:59
Hoping they still have some up north further in. Planning a Hayward trip here not too far down the road. Mm. Hard tack. Mm. [laughs] Sorry, there'll be some chewing going on temporarily.
• 6:13
[laughs] So- Oh my gosh, it's good... anyway, Fatter By The Lake, uh, coming up, too. That's a week from tomorrow. Well, actually a week from today, Friday, the 3rd it starts.
• 6:24
And on said 3rd we have a party at the Illinois Resort and Convention Center, which will include a live podcast. We're gonna do it on the spot with music from Smooth Evil. Smooth Evil. Smooth Evil. And, uh,
• 6:39
I just, uh, kinda solidified a thing today. We're gonna have Jay Petervery on the show. All right. Yeah. He's gonna do a little post salsa talking about what's he's been doing since the kerfluffle. Wow.
• 6:52
And, uh, it's gonna be... He's a, he's a great guest. We've had him on before. In fact, I think I'm gonna pull up an archived Jay interview from the past on the Weekly Dose. Mm-hmm.
• 7:03
See what we can do to kinda keep the conversation going. He's got some interesting things going on, running some events and doing some coaching and guiding and keeping his foot in the fire, or whatever you say.
• 7:17
One of those, one of those things- Bog... you say when you say a thing. Iron? And then, uh, we also will be discussing the Pugsley Games, which is sort of an offshoot of the old Pugsley World Championships. Oh.
• 7:31
Because we have the axe and it hasn't been awarded for a while, we're kinda changing it up. Spinner's got some ideas for some events, and
• 7:40
that will be awarded Saturday night at the same Illinois Resort and Convention Center event, Fatter By The Lake. Probably ought to be there or be square. Thank you for that jerky. That- It's pretty delicious... you bet.
• 7:57
Even though I just came from the Swinging Door and- Oh. Oh. [laughs] There was something on the... for my tardiness. [laughs] Do, do tell, what did you have for this? Thursday. You know what Thursday is. Oh, pulled pork.
• 8:10
Mm-hmm. Oh, that thing's so good. And two shrimps. Always. [laughs] Well, we're at... We're almost there. We're getting there, Greg. Hang on. Choo-choo-choo. Top of the hill. Top of the hill. Top of the hill.
• 8:21
Top of the hill. And that's how it felt getting here. Getting here. To the top, top of the hill. [laughs] You are at the top of the hill. I'm like, "Oh, hell." I looked at the phone, I'm like, "It's five after. Shit."
• 8:31
Today we got Lakefront Brewery's Shifter Pale Ale. Interesting. This, oh yeah, this is Lakefront.
• 8:41
Yeah, I've heard people order this, and it, it's funny 'cause it, it comes off at the voice of it saying, be like, "I'll have my shift drink," or shifter. Mm-hmm. You know? Yeah. You feel...
• 8:50
I'm like, "I didn't know that person worked here." You know, so I'm like, "Ah, now I get it." Da, da, da, da. I, I think it's cool that they had to use a six-speed transmission to come up with pale ale. Oh, yeah.
• 9:01
And it also happens to be the Volkswagen shift pattern, so. So P is for parking? P is for, well, in this case, yeah. [laughs] It should be rrr. So is, is A first gear or is A second gear? A would be first. And second.
• 9:16
And second. [laughs] L is thir- Look at, they're all- Oh my God. That's weird... L1 or L2. Yeah, I guess. Maybe it's only a three-speed with a dual range transmission. And then the econo mode for E&E. Yeah.
• 9:31
It's, um, it's interesting. It's a pale malt, wheat malt, hops, and yeast-type beer. It's not bad at all, actually. Not very boozahol-y at 5.2. Oh, that's not... Yeah, I was gonna- Yeah. Very drinkable... order that.
• 9:44
Um- Made right here in the backyard... goes great with, uh, teriyaki jerky. Jerky. Yeah, it does. Oh, hell yeah. But I guess the response to that is, what doesn't? Yeah, true that. I mean, you know. Mm.
• 9:59
So, uh, yeah, a little bit more about the Pugsley Games idea. Um, in the past...
• 10:04
Well, we're gonna do more of a history on the show next week, but, uh, it started in Decorah and, and kind of went from 2011 to 2015, so five years of being there, and then it just, the, the axe kind of languished for a little bit.
• 10:19
So the d- idea is now to rekindle it as the Pugsley Games, which will have more events and shenaniganry,
• 10:27
and make it a traveling trophy so that whoever wins it has to do the next event, and then award it to someone else, and keep a, keep it, keep it going somewhere and keep events happening around the axe.
• 10:37
So hopefully we can rekindle that thing. Was that w- uh, when Spinner did the good, uh, body slam of Lunds? That, that was n- that was during, uh, Decorah Time Trials I believe. Okay. But same basic- Exactly... area.
• 10:51
It seemed like it- Yeah... could, could very well have been... close, close to. Certain things you wanna have recorded that see, see forever, and I- Yeah, I wish that was on video somewhere... like that, yeah.
• 10:58
[laughs] The picture, the picture, the two, the pictures I saw of it just worked very nicely. I can- [laughs] Oh, yeah... make the move. You betcha. Um, yeah. Let's see, what else do we have here for you fine people?
• 11:15
Do, do, do, do, do, do. There's a pretty cute bike in the bike stand right now. Jeebus, that's nice looking. Kind of revamping an old frame from 10 years ago or so that
• 11:25
basically never got ridden because I couldn't fit wide enough mountain bike tires into it. Well, it'd be a great winter bike now. Yeah.
• 11:32
So it's been 650 bead with some studs on it for when it gets cold outside, at least for now. Touching the studs. Studs. We don't need them now, though, so- Oh, but you-... not any big hurry to-...
• 11:43
but you still hear them. Yeah. You hear them on some people. Yeah. And it's like, "Whoa." I rode a- You got a little early on this one. Yeah. I mean, granted, we did have some- Yeah, I put mine on-... snow dump early...
• 11:51
to ride with the snow dump from, from Halloween of all things. Yeah. [laughs] And, uh, yeah, I decided I'm not gonna ride again till we get more snow, so it's, it's gonna sit there for a minute or two.
• 12:00
Hey, here's an idea. Uh, the Brazen Dropouts- Brazen... Brazen Dropouts', um- Swap Meet... Swap Meet, that's what they call it, is happening in Madison, Wisconsin, 1/11. 20 and 20 It's my mom's birthday. Oh, nice. Mr.
• 12:17
Scanlon came in today and had a very good idea, being the organized guy that he is. Mm-hmm. Make a list when you go there so you're not just willy-nilly buying stuff that you don't actually need.
• 12:28
[laughs] Like, "Well, I'm looking for such and such and such and such." Now wait a minute. What do you actually need when you go to there? You go there to buy things you don't need and enjoy.
• 12:36
[laughs] I don't think I've ever gone with a list. I, I've gone with, like, I, if I see this kind of a thing, I might grab it type of an idea. But I don't know how many vendors they're gonna have there, 60, 70?
• 12:48
They got a lot- Oh, boy... a lot of vendors from all over the Midwest, so. Shout out to my buddy Kyle- And I-... who got his wife a Gunner there that was in, like, new old stock, beautiful bike. Her cyclocross bike.
• 13:01
I wish I was one of those bike shops that was into losing money hand over fist so I could just take all this stuff and give it away at a swap meet. Mm-hmm. [laughs] That would be great. You'll get a frame.
• 13:11
You'll get a frame. Everybody gets a frame. [laughs] So if you're gonna go to this thing, I think it's worth noting that it's, like, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. That doesn't go real long. I'm not sure what the 2:00 PM cutoff is.
• 13:22
There may be another event at the Alliance Center there or some such, but if you're gonna go get your deals, you're gonna wanna be there early. I've, uh, I've heard rumors that concerts there are dry. Really?
• 13:34
My, my, my nephew- They were? At w- At the Alliance, my, my nephew went to see, uh- Hmm... um, who's that band that, uh, people like? Oh, the Foo Fighters. And- Do people like those guys? I guess so.
• 13:45
And, uh, full disclosure, I've seen the Foo Fighters live. They're okay. Um, but yeah, uh, he was pretty disappointed to find out he could not order a beer when he got inside. Wow.
• 13:56
Wouldn't have expected that out of Mad Town. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gonna kinda call it, I don't know, not as angry town or- Yeah. [laughs] Mellow town. Mellow town. Clown town. Clown town.
• 14:07
[laughs] Yeah, I'm trying to place where... Oh, wait a minute, I think I know where this place is. The center? Yeah. Right off the breezeway on the beltway. By the- Yeah. Easy to get to. Yeah.
• 14:21
I'm sure most people that are coming there will probably know where it is already, but- Oh, yeah, yeah. I stayed, yeah, I stayed at a hotel across the street from there. Okay, that makes more sense now.
• 14:31
[laughs] I was, like, really trying to place it. I'm like, as a venue. Okay, all right. All right, we're all back together. Hallelujah.
• 14:39
Speaking of concerts on that, and I was like, no, I just know Majestic, and I know Silvy just opened, and Orpheum and- Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I'm like, I can't think of seeing one there.
• 14:51
They're the big venue type place, you know? The, the Pfizer Forum-y type bands. Fair enough. Yeah. Shows I don't wanna see. Yeah. [laughs] Right. Yeah. So. All right then.
• 15:03
Well, uh, we got that huge ass fat bike race too on Saturday the 5th down in Zion, sort of in conjunction with the Fatter by the Lake thingamajigger. Shirley games and everything. Right. I'm working on getting Amelia on.
• 15:17
Hopefully we can talk to Amelia Kegel about the series in general- Yeah... more than just the specific race, but, uh- Oh... gonna try and wrangle her into- She lives, like-... some conversationing... two blocks away.
• 15:27
Right? [laughs] We either get her in the studio, or we'll catch up with her at an event somehow. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Um, yeah. Yeah. I think we're kinda done. [laughs] I'm not done with my jerky yet.
• 15:42
[laughs] You know, I'm totally enjoying it. Nice. Savoring. Good call. Well, I knew it was gonna be an abbreviated show on account of the Christmas holidays and all. Um- Yeah, my brain was like, what? Where? Oh, yeah.
• 15:55
Even when I saw your text, I'm like, "Oh, what day?" I'll, uh- I don't even know what day it is. Dang.
• 15:59
The reason I can, can never forget is 'cause my, uh, I'm gonna say this on air just to probably aggravate her should she ever listen, but- [laughs]... my mother-in-law last night just kept talking about scrotum- Oh...
• 16:10
because of our new boy. Oh, boy. And- The scrote... she kept bringing up scrotum at Christmas. I'm like, "Roseanne, can we, can we drop the scrotum?" [laughs] How about smegma? Are we gonna talk about smegma? Oh, boy.
• 16:23
Can we just drop this? Come on. And she kept bringing it up, and kept bringing it up. Interesting conversations at- So that was, yeah... oh yeah... at, uh- Burger Christmas dinner. Yeah.
• 16:33
No, that was the Matthias Christmas dinner. Oh, okay. Burger was way more casual. That was, uh- Yeah, there was only two bums rush-... Christmas Eve. Two, two bums rush- Oh, yeah?... on Christmas Day from the house.
• 16:45
[laughs] Whoop, and another much more delicate voomp. [laughs] Go. You go now. [laughs] You go now. Oh, yes. Oh, yeah. I kept my fool mouth shut. Uh, well, no, I didn't actually, now that I think about it.
• 17:00
[laughs] I forgot there was one door that I had to close. I'm like, "Yeah, I think it is a good idea- [laughs]... to get the hell out of here." [laughs] Hey, you know what? Since it's Thursday- Actions-...
• 17:09
instead of, uh-... louder than my rulers... m- No, it's Friday. Well, I mean- Friday... when we're doing this, it's Thursday, so. Oh. We can go to- My bad... uh, Stubby's tonight. $3 off all pints of beer. Oh, my. Yeah.
• 17:21
This kinda ties in with our starting on the 8th doing rides after the show. So if you'd like- Yeah... to join the crew, we're gonna be going a little further afield than just the local stops- Mm-hmm... beginning 1/8.
• 17:37
Next week, we got the big show down at Zion, so I think we're just gonna let that pass as our show. Right. So we're really not gonna be back here until the 10th- Next year...
• 17:48
at which point, JK, are you gonna be in here for the 8th? Uh, y- yeah, yeah. So- For the 8th I will. Yeah. Oh, right on. JK's heading over to Portugal. Portugal. Not the man. [laughs] So- Exactly. And Tangiers.
• 18:05
We'll s- Ding-a-ling... talk, talk at you next week from Zion, and then we'll be back in the studio the following week. Bye. Thanks, everybody- Bye, bye, bye... for listening to our show.
• 18:16
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
• 18:24
  [upbeat music]
