1:58
Speaker 3: think I think you got the picture. You got a
2:01
Speaker 3: couple of more days. As a matter of fact, they
2:03
Speaker 3: say overnight tonight we could break records for the low
2:05
Speaker 3: temperature well below zero. That's not wind show, that's the
2:08
Speaker 3: actual temperature when we go on the air, probably here
2:11
Speaker 3: tomorrow morning, so we'll kind of get our mind off
2:14
Speaker 3: the weather. Coming up a little bit later on the show, Delgo.
2:16
Speaker 3: Jb Acres is here. He was recently named as the
2:18
Speaker 3: House Judiciary Chair. He'll join us. Plus, there's lots to
2:21
Speaker 3: talk about ambulance rates going up in Conawk County. We're
2:24
Speaker 3: going to talk to Tom Susman, who's sort of service
2:26
Speaker 3: as a spokesperson for the Knaw County Emergency Ambulance Service Authority.
2:29
Speaker 3: He'll be in the studio as well. And we're only
2:32
Speaker 3: two days away from the second annual WVRC Media Charleston
2:36
Speaker 3: Sock Drive for Union Mission presented by Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration.
2:39
Speaker 3: We'll spend a little time talking about that. Of course,
2:41
Speaker 3: the big news is the Trump inauguration yesterday, So I'm
2:44
Speaker 3: gonna go ahead and tell you now, I am going to
2:46
Speaker 3: talk about it a little bit later on, but if
2:48

3:10
Speaker 3: Virginia Trophy Hunters Association will present the annual Hunting a
3:13
Speaker 3: Fishing Show at the Condo Seema Convention Center. Good friend
3:16
Speaker 3: Glenn Gerald is here to join talk about it. Glenn,
3:18
Speaker 3: Good morning, Welcome to the show.
3:19
Speaker 5: Good morning, Thanks for having me.
3:21
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Do you do you loathe
3:24
Speaker 3: it as much as I do? When people say is
3:26
Speaker 3: it cold enough for you? Or is it hot enough
3:27
Speaker 3: for you? I mean, it is what it is, right.
3:29
Speaker 5: It is what it is, and I'll tell you what
3:31
Speaker 5: it is. Going to want warm up a little bit
3:33
Speaker 5: this weekend and the show is coming to the Civic
3:36
Speaker 5: Center and we're ready for it.
3:37
Speaker 3: All right, now, how many years has this been this?
3:39
Speaker 5: Thirty seventh year.
3:40
Speaker 3: Thirty seventh year? Yes, all right, you've been there for
3:42
Speaker 3: all of them, Yes, been there for all of them.
3:45
Speaker 3: So it's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Condo Seema
3:47
Speaker 3: Convention Center. It's going to be a great time. It
3:49
Speaker 3: always is. What are some of the maybe new things
3:52
Speaker 3: we have this year and some returning favorites.
3:55
Speaker 5: We have several new things, several new outfitters that are coming.
3:58
Speaker 5: They'll be outfitters from the Western it's from Canada. If
4:01
Speaker 5: you want to book a bear hunt an ell count
4:03
Speaker 5: everyone that they'll be there this year. We have a
4:06
Speaker 5: lot of new things this year for the children. Also,
4:09
Speaker 5: we'll have a rock climbing event there where the National
4:12
Speaker 5: Guard will be be sponsoring it. Uh, there's there's excuse me,
4:19
Speaker 5: I'm still cold from outside. There's a there's a lot
4:24
Speaker 5: of excuse me, a lot of a lot of new
4:26
Speaker 5: things coming. So it's there, it's ready, All the booths
4:31
Speaker 5: are sold. Everyone's everyone's ready.
4:33
Speaker 6: Come on down.
4:34
Speaker 3: Well, and I was looking at your schedule of events
4:36
Speaker 3: that you have here. I mean you go to start
4:38
Speaker 3: things with the ribbon cutting in the noon. You've got
4:41
Speaker 3: all of these different things going on throughout the weekend.
4:44
Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence, as he always does, Chris is going to
4:46
Speaker 3: be a big part of it. He'll be doing his
4:49
Speaker 3: a live three hour show from there on Saturday morning,
4:53
Speaker 3: nine am.
4:54
Speaker 5: Absolutely, Chris does a great job. He does We liked
4:57
Speaker 5: having Chris.
4:58
Speaker 3: There and a lot of good inform out there too.
5:01
Speaker 3: And I know there's a lot of folks that say, well,
5:03
Speaker 3: I'd like to come to the show, but I don't
5:05
Speaker 3: necessarily have the money to spend. Look, you can come.
5:07
Speaker 3: We want you to visit the outfitters. Obviously, we want
5:10
Speaker 3: you to purchase stuff, But if you just want to
5:12
Speaker 3: walk around, as we used to say growing up in
5:14
Speaker 3: the church, fellowship one with the other and just talk
5:17
Speaker 3: to other outdoors people, whether they're professionals, whether they're amateurs,
5:21
Speaker 3: people just like you, they're all going to be there.
5:23
Speaker 5: Absolutely, they're there, and like I say, there's something for everyone.
5:26
Speaker 5: If you want to come down just look at the
5:28
Speaker 5: latest equipment and so forth, it will be there. If
5:30
Speaker 5: you want to look at a fishing equipment, we have
5:31
Speaker 5: a great display of boats out in our lobby. If
5:35
Speaker 5: you want to talk to someone, like I say, about
5:37
Speaker 5: the hunting or fishing, the trout unlimited guys will be
5:40
Speaker 5: there to talk to you about what's going on with
5:42
Speaker 5: the troiut here in the state. The Department of Natural
5:45
Speaker 5: Resources will be there if you want to discuss anything
5:48
Speaker 5: with the law enforcement guys or the wildlife guys will
5:52
Speaker 5: be there if you want to talk about any surveys
5:54
Speaker 5: they have going on, or any projects they have going on.
5:57
Speaker 5: And they'll also be there to score the whitetail mounts
6:01
Speaker 5: that you have. If you've scored a or if you've
6:03
Speaker 5: harvested a great white tail here in the state, bring
6:05
Speaker 5: it down. They'll score it for you and benefit qualifies
6:08
Speaker 5: will hanging up in the white Tail Hall of Fame,
6:10
Speaker 5: which is a beautiful display.
6:12
Speaker 3: It's one of the great things I like about the
6:13
Speaker 3: sevent Glenn And again when we're talking about this weekends
6:15
Speaker 3: West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show at the Kytle Seema
6:18
Speaker 3: Convention Center Friday through Sunday, one of the things I
6:20
Speaker 3: like about this is the amount of education that's available
6:23
Speaker 3: and for the for outdoors people and and and guys
6:26
Speaker 3: and gals come in, they take it in many times
6:28
Speaker 3: with notebooks in hand. They set there and it's just
6:31
Speaker 3: like they're going to class man.
6:32
Speaker 5: Absolutely, it's a world of information there. Anything you want
6:35
Speaker 5: to know about conservation that's going on in the state
6:38
Speaker 5: that the West end of Trophy Hunter is a big
6:40
Speaker 5: support of conservation programs that's going on. So if you
6:44
Speaker 5: want to talk about those see what's going on to
6:46
Speaker 5: come on down. There'll be someone there to help help
6:49
Speaker 5: you with anything you want to talk about.
6:51
Speaker 3: The day Islands showing five aby Line Bright to you

7:13
Speaker 3: And I'm looking ahead glen at the weather, and of
7:16
Speaker 3: course light can change between now and then, but Friday
7:18
Speaker 3: looks like partly cloudy twenty eight, Saturday, Sunday thirty seven,
7:22
Speaker 3: Sunday thirty nine, So it doesn't look like there's going
7:24
Speaker 3: to be any weather issues to keep people away. Because
7:27
Speaker 3: when you have this in January, it happens. And I
7:31
Speaker 3: would think, and I'm not the biggest outdoor person in
7:33
Speaker 3: the world, but I will say this that with the
7:35
Speaker 3: January that we've had with these cold temperatures and the
7:38
Speaker 3: snow and the ice, it's enough to make me want
7:41
Speaker 3: to go head out to the lake. I mean it
7:43
Speaker 3: really is.
7:44
Speaker 5: Yes, And if you just want to get out, if
7:46
Speaker 5: you've got Cavin favorite, come on down for the show.
7:48
Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, let's talk about admission prices and things of
7:52
Speaker 3: that now.
7:52
Speaker 5: Oh, it's a great deal. Adults is twelve dollars. Anyone
7:56
Speaker 5: under twelve is in free. So it's it's prety simple. Okay,
8:01
Speaker 5: twelve for adults and under twelves in free.
8:04
Speaker 3: And I know people that go all three days. I
8:08
Speaker 3: mean I literally know people that will go Friday, Saturday
8:11
Speaker 3: and Sunday and they'll because really, in my experience, and
8:14
Speaker 3: I've been there the last couple of years, my experience
8:16
Speaker 3: is is it's hard to take it in all all
8:19
Speaker 3: at one time. And the more crowded it is, it
8:22
Speaker 3: makes it even harder because you got to get through
8:23
Speaker 3: the crowds and everything. And that's a good thing. We
8:25
Speaker 3: want people to come out and talk and as I said,
8:27
Speaker 3: fellowship and so on and so forth. But if you
8:31
Speaker 3: really you might want to consider coming back a second day.
8:33
Speaker 5: Absolutely, if you come down Friday afternoon, that's a great time.
8:36
Speaker 5: But then if you want to come back Saturday, we'll
8:39
Speaker 5: have an auction on Saturday afternoon, which is a big deal.
8:42
Speaker 5: You can get some great deals there.
8:44
Speaker 3: I want to talk about that auction. Give us all
8:46
Speaker 3: of the details on that.
8:47
Speaker 5: Okay, Really what happens there is our outfitters will present trips.
8:53
Speaker 5: If it may be just a fishing trip on the
8:56
Speaker 5: Great Lakes, or if you want to go hunting and
8:58
Speaker 5: be a hunting trip, or there's some beautiful guns will
9:00
Speaker 5: be auctioned off, and beautiful clothing, beautiful artwork, beautiful knives.
9:05
Speaker 5: It's all there and there's some great deals. That's Saturday
9:08
Speaker 5: afternoon at five o'clock in the main arena, And.
9:11
Speaker 3: As I said earlier, we'll be there. Chris Lawrence is
9:14
Speaker 3: going to be there. This is one of those events
9:15
Speaker 3: that we do that pretty much all of us will
9:17
Speaker 3: be there at one time or another. I haven't gotten
9:19
Speaker 3: the schedule yet, it's what I'm going to be there,
9:20
Speaker 3: but I'll be there this weekend. All of our station's
9:23
Speaker 3: KWSKAZ We're all going to be hanging out there and
9:27
Speaker 3: talking to the talking to the fine folks there at
9:29
Speaker 3: the Colosseum of Convention Center this weekend, and a whole
9:32
Speaker 3: lot of work, Glenn, a whole lot of work goes into.
9:35
Speaker 5: This, Absolutely, the Trop one hundred work all year on it,
9:38
Speaker 5: get getting it ready, and we really try to present
9:41
Speaker 5: a great quality show. So come on down. There's something
9:48
Speaker 5: for everyone there.
9:49
Speaker 3: And Friday it's actually going to be a really big
9:51
Speaker 3: day at the Colosseumic Convention Center because there's a concert
9:54
Speaker 3: that night. Parker McCallum is in concert, and also the
9:57
Speaker 3: Reds Caravan is going to be there Friday evening as well,
10:00
Speaker 3: so there's more than one reason to go to the
10:02
Speaker 3: Kyloseuma Convention Center. It's all going to be going on
10:05
Speaker 3: on that Friday night.
10:07
Speaker 5: Absolutely, come on down to the show.
10:09
Speaker 3: All right, So again, give us the hours, give us
10:12
Speaker 3: the rundown again.
10:13
Speaker 2: Okay.
10:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, if we're going to start at noon on Friday,
10:16
Speaker 5: go to on nine at night on Saturday it's nine
10:19
Speaker 5: to nine and Sunday ten to five. And again the
10:22
Speaker 5: price is just twelve dollars for adults. Anyone under twelve
10:25
Speaker 5: gets in free.
10:26
Speaker 3: All right. It's going to be a great time. It
10:27
Speaker 3: always is. Glenn. I appreciate you being here and we'll
10:31
Speaker 3: see you there this Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the
10:34
Speaker 3: Kyloseum Convention Center. Actually, you're doing the ribbon cutting at
10:37
Speaker 3: noon on Friday. I'm going to have you back in
10:38

13:34
Speaker 3: I do want to throw out a couple of texts
13:36
Speaker 3: because with everything happening in the news yesterday. You know,
13:40
Speaker 3: there was an inauguration yesterday. You may or may not
13:42
Speaker 3: be familiar with that, but I just thought I would
13:44
Speaker 3: give folks an opportunity. I'm going to weigh in on
13:46
Speaker 3: a little bit later on after our guests are here,
13:48

Speaker 3: five five zero zeroid if you want to text me
13:54
Speaker 3: with your thoughts of the inauguration and guess what, I've
13:57
Speaker 3: got some, So here we go. Hey, Dave says, how
14:00
Speaker 3: about Elon Musk throwing up the Nazi salute twice at
14:03
Speaker 3: Trump's riley. You know how it will go if you
14:05
Speaker 3: saw it, that's what wasn't what it was. If he
14:08
Speaker 3: did it, it was an accident, but he didn't do
14:11
Speaker 3: it because it was ai generated by the Libs. Then
14:13
Speaker 3: Elon will use as wealth to bury the video of
14:16
Speaker 3: him giving the Heil hitler twice on national television. I
14:19
Speaker 3: saw that, I saw a lot being written about it.
14:22
Speaker 3: But again, and I agree with the texture. It all
14:25
Speaker 3: depends on your perspective of whether you thought that was
14:27
Speaker 3: a Hitler thing or it wasn't, because if you're a supporter,
14:30
Speaker 3: you're gonna say it wasn't. I actually heard the audio
14:33
Speaker 3: and a lot he was actually talking about love and
14:35
Speaker 3: things of that nature. I probably wouldn't have been a
14:37
Speaker 3: little bit more careful with my arms if it were me,
14:40
Speaker 3: just saying, Tex says today, thank god President Trump is
14:44

Speaker 3: We're bringing Tom Susman to the show now. Tom, good morning,
15:49
Speaker 3: Welcome to the show.
15:49
Speaker 9: Good morning, Dave. I'm sitting here just like having studio
15:53
Speaker 9: envy on your new studio. As a side note, I'm
15:56
Speaker 9: kind of involved in radio in Ravenswood and our studios
16:00
Speaker 9: up there are not anywhere as nice as this studio.
16:03
Speaker 3: Well, this is our temporary holding place, you know, because
16:07
Speaker 3: eventually we're remodeling all of the studios here. So this
16:10
Speaker 3: is where like I you know, I'm in here. Hotline
16:13
Speaker 3: is in here. TJ's portion of talk line is in here.
16:16
Speaker 3: But eventually we're going to move back into the old studio.
16:19
Speaker 3: And so the next time mister Susman, you appear on
16:21
Speaker 3: the show, you may be on TV, there will be
16:24
Speaker 3: a cameras well.
16:25
Speaker 9: Nobody to want to watch.
16:26
Speaker 3: No, well, I mean me too, me and that, but
16:30
Speaker 3: I do appreciate the nice words before we get into
16:32
Speaker 3: talking about the ambulance service rates here in Kadawa County,
16:36
Speaker 3: and there's been a lot of talking. I know you,
16:38
Speaker 3: as a spokesperson have fielded a lot of questions about it.
16:41
Speaker 3: I didn't want to mention something about warming centers that
16:43
Speaker 3: you wanted to bring up, so I'll give you an
16:44
Speaker 3: opportunity to do that, because it's maybe it's cold outside.
16:47
Speaker 9: It's cold today and it's going to even be colder
16:49
Speaker 9: tomorrow or tomorrow evening, and I saw somewhere on weather
16:52
Speaker 9: Channel it could be as low as four below, so
16:55
Speaker 9: I kind of want to go through. We got these
16:56
Speaker 9: from CW. Sigmund, who is the Kanawa County Emergency Emergency
17:00
Speaker 9: Manager coordinator. So I'm gonna go through a couple of
17:03
Speaker 9: warming centers that are open. Dunbar's operating a center twenty
17:08
Speaker 9: four hours a day at the Senior Center at City Hall.
17:11
Speaker 9: Saint Aubins is having an overnight shelter at the Hanford
17:14
Speaker 9: Center from eight pm until eight am. Marmett is operating
17:18
Speaker 9: an overnight center at the Recreation Building from six pm
17:22
Speaker 9: until six am. And again, how long these will stay
17:27
Speaker 9: open don't know, it will depend on the forecast. Really
17:30
Speaker 9: appreciate these municipalities stepping up. Also, the Breams Center in
17:35
Speaker 9: Charleston is operating one between seven pm and seven am.
17:39
Speaker 9: There may be others, Dave, Maybe folks need to text
17:42
Speaker 9: you and let you know, but you know, ask take
17:44
Speaker 9: care of your loved ones. Don't need to be outside
17:47
Speaker 9: very long today if you don't have to be, And
17:50
Speaker 9: check on seniors to make sure they're being taken care of.
17:53
Speaker 3: Absolutely absolutely, And actually I have a list of those
17:57
Speaker 3: posted on my social media on Dave Alan Radio, so
17:59
Speaker 3: if you want to go to Dave Allen Radio you
18:00
Speaker 3: can see a list of those. And we appreciate the
18:03
Speaker 3: folks in Knawa County for giving us that information. All right,
18:06
Speaker 3: tom So, we reported on this last week. The Canawh
18:09
Speaker 3: County Ambulance Authority has approved rate increases for its service.
18:13
Speaker 3: The increases and the numbers always stick out when you
18:16
Speaker 3: say that the increases on some things could be upwards
18:19
Speaker 3: of two hundred percent. Now, Aaron Parker has a story
18:21
Speaker 3: posted about it on the archives section from last week
18:24
Speaker 3: wv metronews dot com. And all this is, as I understand,
18:29
Speaker 3: to make up for a more a four million dollar
18:31
Speaker 3: budget deficit. Tom, you are a spokesperson for the Ambulance
18:34
Speaker 3: Service Authority. I guess the big question is how did
18:37
Speaker 3: we get here?
18:38
Speaker 9: Well, I think there are a couple of reasons. One
18:40
Speaker 9: is that over the period of years, they have not
18:41
Speaker 9: been keeping pace with what those rates should have been.
18:46
Speaker 9: And the impact of the rates, there's two impacts. One
18:50
Speaker 9: is that if we can get these rates adjusted up,
18:52
Speaker 9: it'll help us fill the budget gap. And but for
18:56
Speaker 9: the individual who's listening going, oh my gosh, my rates
18:58
Speaker 9: are going to go up. So first off, if you're
19:00
Speaker 9: on Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Peia, this really
19:06
Speaker 9: won't have an impact on your rates. And any insurance
19:09
Speaker 9: company that we have a contract with, what this will
19:13
Speaker 9: do is it allows the ambulance company to then go
19:17
Speaker 9: back and begin to negotiate with the insurance to get
19:20
Speaker 9: increased rates. Now Medicare Medicaid PI, they have an established
19:24
Speaker 9: rate schedule their governmental payers so that they'll only pay
19:29
Speaker 9: what they will pay. And I think your story indicated
19:32
Speaker 9: that about seventy seven percent of the insurance payments in
19:35
Speaker 9: West Virginia are are that. So that's part of the
19:37
Speaker 9: problem because they play they pay way below cost for
19:41
Speaker 9: the insurance companies that have contracts with with with the
19:45
Speaker 9: Ambulance Authority. This just gives us the ability to go
19:48
Speaker 9: back and renegotiate those contracts for the individuals who are
19:54
Speaker 9: having issues in terms they can't afford and probably we
19:57
Speaker 9: can't afford the rates today, much less the increased rate.
20:00
Speaker 9: There's a hard chet process that we work with so
20:04
Speaker 9: that those rates will either be adjusted down or we
20:06
Speaker 9: charge off those We charge off those rates. But really
20:09
Speaker 9: this is a positioning to get us where we can
20:12
Speaker 9: go to the insurance companies and begin to negotiate rates
20:15
Speaker 9: where they really should have been, and we are significantly
20:18
Speaker 9: below those rates. The squad brought in a consultant and
20:24
Speaker 9: they looked at it from top to bottom. They've made
20:26
Speaker 9: eighteen recommendations and this is one of the recommendations and
20:30
Speaker 9: they looked at our cost structure and it's really not
20:33
Speaker 9: an expense structure problem. It's a revenue problem and we're
20:36
Speaker 9: having to work through that.
20:38
Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with Tom Susman, who's a spokesperson for
20:40
Speaker 3: the Ganawa County Emergency Ambulance Service Authority, and Tom, this
20:43
Speaker 3: is a problem that's happening statewide and happening nationwide. You're
20:47
Speaker 3: somebody that's pretty close to the healthcare field a lot
20:49
Speaker 3: of different things that you do. This is a nationwide issue.
20:52
Speaker 9: Well, and it's even more in particular problem for EMS
20:54
Speaker 9: in West Virginia. We've had a number of squads I
20:57
Speaker 9: think twenty some closed in the last couple of years.
21:00
Speaker 9: The goal of the authority is to try and work
21:03
Speaker 9: through this situation on the deficit and not reduce services
21:08
Speaker 9: in the county because Kanawa County has got some of
21:12
Speaker 9: the best ambulance services in the county and they're like
21:15
Speaker 9: nine hundred and some square miles in this county and
21:18
Speaker 9: there's a lot of territory that's very rural, and so
21:22
Speaker 9: the goal is to maintain the service that we have.
21:24
Speaker 9: And again, like I said, there are seventeen or so
21:26
Speaker 9: other recommendations that the authority is looking at at this
21:29
Speaker 9: time to see if this is things that they need
21:32
Speaker 9: to do to bring to improve service, reduce costs, and
21:38
Speaker 9: do what needs to be done for the citizens of
21:41
Speaker 9: the county.
21:42
Speaker 3: But Dave Island showing five any line brought to you
21:43
Speaker 3: in part by Pinnacle Consultants. Pinnacle offers a four phase
21:46
Speaker 3: assessment for your properties inspection, in sampling, that analysis, comprehensive
21:50
Speaker 3: reporting and management planning. Visit Pinnacle cort dot net. Because
21:53
Speaker 3: what you don't know can't hurt you, Tomy is you're
21:55
Speaker 3: somebody who has spent a little time under the dome
21:58
Speaker 3: as a as a legislator and also as a as
22:01
Speaker 3: a lobbyist. At what point, if any does the legislature
22:06
Speaker 3: get involved. Is there anything that they can do to
22:08
Speaker 3: work with these counties like Kanawa and others work with
22:10
Speaker 3: these ambulance service authorities? And you mentioned the closing of
22:13
Speaker 3: several fire departments and things of that nature. Is this
22:16
Speaker 3: something that the legislature needs to take a look at
22:18
Speaker 3: in your opinion?
22:19
Speaker 9: Well, the EMS coalition and Monica who's the executive director
22:22
Speaker 9: of Kanaha County and Chris Hall, who's the executive director
22:26
Speaker 9: of the Association and other squads have been working with
22:29
Speaker 9: the legislature and they've done some funding on workforce, they've
22:34
Speaker 9: done some funding on other things. But the market of
22:38
Speaker 9: EMS has changed in West Virginia and a lot of
22:40
Speaker 9: the squads, like Kanaala County, used to do a lot
22:42
Speaker 9: more non emergency transports, but there are other entities doing
22:46
Speaker 9: that today, so that the business model, if you will,
22:50
Speaker 9: has changed. But the problem we find is that at
22:53
Speaker 9: this juncture, the states that are four hundred million dollars shortfall.
22:56
Speaker 9: According to the incoming governor folks, they're not looking to
23:00
Speaker 9: increase revenue, but there is a problem, and I think
23:03
Speaker 9: Kanawha County will be able to work its way through it.
23:05
Speaker 9: I think in the rural counties it's even gonna be
23:07
Speaker 9: a more acute problem.
23:08
Speaker 3: It's very similar in some instances, although similar but different
23:13
Speaker 3: with the jail bill. You hear people talking so much
23:15
Speaker 3: about the jail bill, and again the larger counties seem
23:19
Speaker 3: to do a little better than the other ones, but
23:21
Speaker 3: you start getting into some of the more the smaller
23:23
Speaker 3: the work counties Calhune, Clay County, whatever, it's it's a
23:26
Speaker 3: real issue there. Not that it's not here, but it's
23:28
Speaker 3: a real issue there.
23:29
Speaker 9: And it's really expensive. I mean everybody looks at a
23:31
Speaker 9: van and then go, well, that's an ambulance. That's just
23:33
Speaker 9: a van. Well it's not. I mean there's a couple
23:35
Speaker 9: hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment if you order an ambulance.
23:39
Speaker 9: And one of the things the report says is we
23:41
Speaker 9: need to we need to replace because we have a
23:43
Speaker 9: number of ambulances that have several hundred thousand miles on them,
23:46
Speaker 9: but there's a two year waiting period to get those
23:49
Speaker 9: ambulances to equip them. And so for a small rural
23:53
Speaker 9: county that doesn't have col severn sacks like they used to,
23:56
Speaker 9: or they don't have the industry like they used to,
23:58
Speaker 9: it's a problem, a problem here in Kanawha County, and
24:01
Speaker 9: we're going to try and work through that. But again,
24:04
Speaker 9: the goal is not to reduce the level of service.
24:06
Speaker 9: We're going to try and soften the impact on individual
24:09
Speaker 9: citizens of these increases and try and work within the
24:11
Speaker 9: insurance market.
24:12
Speaker 3: And I think people sometimes forget, uh, what a vast
24:16
Speaker 3: area Kanawah County is. I mean, uh, I mean it
24:19
Speaker 3: is a big old county and getting from point A
24:23
Speaker 3: to point C and D. Tom not always easy, and
24:27
Speaker 3: we've seen it especially now with the with the winter
24:30
Speaker 3: we've had here.
24:30
Speaker 9: I mean if you go from Tornado all the way
24:33
Speaker 9: to Montgomery, which is pretty farce. The fur pieces they
24:37
Speaker 9: used to say down to Logan in that day. Yeah,
24:40
Speaker 9: it's it's a it's so trying to trying to maintain
24:43
Speaker 9: uh appropriate response times, trying to make things work. And
24:46
Speaker 9: that's the reason that the authority they they solve the
24:50
Speaker 9: they saw where they were heading to deficit. They have
24:53
Speaker 9: dollars on hand, but they don't want to go through
24:55
Speaker 9: those dollars and then wake up one day and say
24:58
Speaker 9: we can't afford to maintain the service level. So they're
25:01
Speaker 9: working through those issues.
25:02
Speaker 10: Now.
25:03
Speaker 3: You mentioned earlier non emergency calls. Explain for the for
25:08
Speaker 3: the the average list or what exactly is a non
25:10
Speaker 3: emergency call.
25:11
Speaker 9: So there are two kind of levels that there's the
25:15
Speaker 9: so emergent we all know, you know Tom Rex's car
25:19
Speaker 9: Amalys has got to come.
25:19
Speaker 3: Take me to the heart attacks or part attacks.
25:21
Speaker 9: Those kind of things. Non emergency sometimes would be from
25:25
Speaker 9: nursing home to hospital. It may be hospital to hospital,
25:29
Speaker 9: it might be from home to dialysis.
25:31
Speaker 10: Center.
25:32
Speaker 9: So that's one level of non emergency. And then there's
25:34
Speaker 9: a thing called critical care transport. And critical care transport
25:38
Speaker 9: is when you may be a hospital saying, Beckley, you
25:43
Speaker 9: have a significant health need and they need to take
25:45
Speaker 9: you to Ruby or to c AMC or to Cleveland
25:49
Speaker 9: and you need a high level of service. So there's
25:51
Speaker 9: a lot of different that would fall in the what
25:53
Speaker 9: we call non emergent, but generally non emergency for the
25:57
Speaker 9: most part, think of none one one calls and lights flashing.
26:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's a definite. I mean, I think the
26:04
Speaker 3: average person might, like myself, you probably knew and you
26:08
Speaker 3: see headlines. You hear headlines from time to time you say, okay,
26:11
Speaker 3: well this is an issue. Well, you know, Tom, when
26:14
Speaker 3: you throw out a number and people say as much
26:16
Speaker 3: as two hundred percent to some people for some services,
26:19
Speaker 3: people are like, oh, pump the brakes here, hold on
26:21
Speaker 3: a second.
26:22
Speaker 9: And I understand that, but you know, you know, you
26:26
Speaker 9: have this need. We've got to maintain this need. And
26:29
Speaker 9: like I said, the big bulk of this is going
26:30
Speaker 9: to allow us to negotiate with insurance companies to get
26:33
Speaker 9: the rates up for the individuals who are who are
26:36
Speaker 9: paying cash or don't have insurance, will work with them.
26:40
Speaker 9: There's a hardship form that you can get hold of
26:42
Speaker 9: the authority or any very soon will be on the
26:45
Speaker 9: website that people can draw down and we work with
26:47
Speaker 9: them on that.
26:48
Speaker 3: So what kind of a where are we now as
26:50
Speaker 3: we start the new year? Is a sort of a
26:52
Speaker 3: timeframe that that these things are going to take place that.
26:54
Speaker 9: You're to be The rate increase took effect January one.
26:58
Speaker 9: There's an implementation committee that's it can get some of
27:00
Speaker 9: the other aspects, like for example, we have a bifurcated
27:04
Speaker 9: dispatch where some of the dispatches that the ambulance office
27:09
Speaker 9: on Brook Street and some is up at nine one one.
27:11
Speaker 9: It really should all be at nine to one to
27:12
Speaker 9: one based on industry standards better patient care. So you know,
27:17
Speaker 9: the authority is going to work through with the nine
27:19
Speaker 9: one one folks Metro to see how you implement that.
27:23
Speaker 9: One of the issues that they've got is the amount
27:25
Speaker 9: of weight time at the emergency room that once you
27:28
Speaker 9: show up at the emergency room, how long does the
27:31
Speaker 9: hospital hold our crews because that then takes ambulances out
27:35
Speaker 9: of circulation and it can be hours sometimes and that's
27:38
Speaker 9: a big issue that it's driving costs. So there are
27:41
Speaker 9: a number of issues that we're working through that that
27:47
Speaker 9: I think will help at the end of the day.
27:48
Speaker 9: And it's going to take a year to eighteen months
27:51
Speaker 9: to get all these implemented.
27:53
Speaker 3: All right, Tom, good information. As always. I appreciate you
27:56
Speaker 3: being here. Next time i'll have you on the show.
27:57
Speaker 3: We'll talk politics. Absolutely. I don't want to mix the two. Now,
28:00
Speaker 3: we don't want to mix the two. Okay, well, hold on,
28:03
Speaker 3: do you have a texture for you? It says, why
28:05
Speaker 3: not provide a non emergency medical with a taxi type
28:08
Speaker 3: vehicle for a fee. There are companies that do this.
28:10
Speaker 9: Yeah, there are there are companies that do do that,
28:14
Speaker 9: do do and you can get those to get from
28:17
Speaker 9: point A to point B. Generally, when they call the
28:19
Speaker 9: ambulance for non emergency, there's a health need that's a
28:22
Speaker 9: higher level of acuity that you need for that transport.
28:25
Speaker 9: But if you're just going to the doctor's office, there
28:28
Speaker 9: are services that can can be like a cab that
28:31
Speaker 9: can take folks.
28:32
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, I was gonna say, I want to
28:33
Speaker 3: get that tax in there. I'll have you on here
28:35
Speaker 3: maybe before the legislature comes in because it's gonna be
28:37
Speaker 3: interesting to see what happens here, So absolutely hang out

32:40
Speaker 3: West Virginia, says a Texter. This past Friday, it was
32:43
Speaker 3: announced to Knawk County Republican Jbacres, representing the fifty fifth,
32:46
Speaker 3: would be the new House Judiciary chair. Originally the job
32:49
Speaker 3: was going to go to Brandon Steele, but to following
32:51
Speaker 3: the release of shall we say Troubling Things? You all
32:54
Speaker 3: know the story by now, a decision was made to
32:56
Speaker 3: put jb Acres in that role, and the good Delegates
32:58
Speaker 3: joins us this morning. Mister Acres, good morning, how are
33:01
Speaker 3: you hey?
33:01
Speaker 10: I'm good man. I'm just glad that those texts came
33:03
Speaker 10: in before I took the chairs. But there's probably more
33:06
Speaker 10: of those comments.
33:07
Speaker 3: There always are, there always are. I guess congratulations are
33:10
Speaker 3: in order, sir.
33:10
Speaker 10: I appreciate it, man, And I just want to say
33:13
Speaker 10: quickly before we move on to me patting myself in
33:15
Speaker 10: the back, that you know, hope Delegates Steals doing well.
33:19
Speaker 10: I messaged with him just once a day after this
33:21
Speaker 10: stuff all hit the media. I didn't know anything about it.
33:24
Speaker 10: I mean when I saw in the news is the
33:26
Speaker 10: first time I knew about it. So, you know, he's
33:28
Speaker 10: got a family of wife and children, and my thoughts
33:31
Speaker 10: are with them, and he's taking a little break. He's
33:33
Speaker 10: still in the legislature, but he's just taking a little
33:35
Speaker 10: personal break, which he and his family deserve, and I
33:37
Speaker 10: just hope they're doing well.
33:39
Speaker 3: So I'm asking a really dumb question because that's what
33:41
Speaker 3: I do here. You didn't have to laugh at that,
33:43
Speaker 3: by the way, So what exactly is the role of
33:46
Speaker 3: the House Judiciary Chair? I mean, you hear it thrown
33:48
Speaker 3: out there in the news a lot. It's a high,
33:50
Speaker 3: very high profile position. But what exactly does the judiciary
33:53
Speaker 3: chair do?
33:54
Speaker 10: Yeah, so we were joking before we went in the
33:56
Speaker 10: air about how I wish sometimes this was a podcast
33:58
Speaker 10: we could spend more time. I'll do my best to
34:00
Speaker 10: encapsulate this quickly. So in the House, well the Senate.
34:04
Speaker 10: In the House both have multiple committees. The structure on
34:08
Speaker 10: both sides is a little different, especially this year. The
34:10
Speaker 10: House has been completely restructured in terms of we have
34:14
Speaker 10: six what we call major standing committees. Then under each
34:17
Speaker 10: one of those standing committees, they have authority over three
34:21
Speaker 10: subcommittees each. So the Judiciary is one of what we
34:25
Speaker 10: call the six major standing committees, and Judiciary and Finance
34:30
Speaker 10: are generally referred to as the two most significant committees
34:35
Speaker 10: really in both chambers, but in the House in particular.
34:37
Speaker 10: It's not because I'm going to say that the work
34:39
Speaker 10: we do is more important than the work any other
34:41
Speaker 10: committee does. You know, we have an Education Committee, for example,
34:45
Speaker 10: which nothing's more important than education. But the reason why
34:48
Speaker 10: Judiciary is often referred to as one of the two
34:50
Speaker 10: most significant committees is our subject matter in that committee
34:54
Speaker 10: is so broad day we deal with all kinds of issues.
34:57
Speaker 10: So the Education Committee will focus solely in it educational
35:00
Speaker 10: issues obviously, as the name implies, but we also sometimes
35:03
Speaker 10: get educational issues in Judiciary. I mean, example might be
35:07
Speaker 10: school discipline issues. There could be a broad range of
35:09
Speaker 10: things that deal with schools. The only thing we really
35:12
Speaker 10: don't delve into in Judiciary is the budget. That's strictly
35:15
Speaker 10: what the Finance Committee does. But you know, we also
35:17
Speaker 10: have a Government Organization's Committee, which is a major standing committee,
35:21
Speaker 10: but we deal with with local government issues like municipal
35:24
Speaker 10: laws and ordinances, for example. Some of those are addressed
35:26
Speaker 10: in judiciary. So we have the broadest range of issues
35:29
Speaker 10: we deal with in Judiciary, and we're also the busiest
35:32
Speaker 10: committee by far. It's really not even close in terms
35:34
Speaker 10: of the number of bills that come in, and it's
35:36
Speaker 10: because we do have so much overlap with the other committees.
35:38
Speaker 10: I mean, we have a health committee. Sometimes we get
35:41
Speaker 10: health issues that run through Judiciary. So my role is
35:44
Speaker 10: the chair the way I see it. At least other
35:46
Speaker 10: people who've been sharing may disagree, but my role is
35:48
Speaker 10: chair as I see it is Number one. Just run
35:50
Speaker 10: a solid committee. You have a lot of responsibilities. I've
35:53
Speaker 10: got a staff of a handful of people who I've
35:56
Speaker 10: got to help manage. And they're all professionals. They're going
35:58
Speaker 10: to be fine. They're going to they were there before
36:00
Speaker 10: where I was chairing. They'll be there after I'm gone. Uh,
36:02
Speaker 10: but they're they're good people. But I've got to, you know,
36:04
Speaker 10: help manage them. We have bills that the body of
36:09
Speaker 10: the legend the House wants to run that may wind
36:13
Speaker 10: up in Judiciary, so I've got to make sure those
36:14
Speaker 10: bills are managed appropriately. And but the biggest difference in
36:18
Speaker 10: my time is going to be I'm gonna have to
36:19
Speaker 10: meet with just a lot more people during the session,
36:23
Speaker 10: and that's there's pros and cons to that.
36:25
Speaker 9: You know.
36:25
Speaker 10: Last year is a regular delegate, Uh, I was able
36:28
Speaker 10: to focus, you know, on what happened at the State
36:30
Speaker 10: House and constituent services. I get a lot of calls
36:33
Speaker 10: and emails. Now I've got to be the guy who
36:35
Speaker 10: a lot of the people who are what we call
36:37
Speaker 10: stakeholders and these bills. It could be a criminal justice
36:40
Speaker 10: reform because judiciary deals with a lot of criminal justice
36:42
Speaker 10: issues is one example we look at. I can have
36:45
Speaker 10: to meet with those folks Sheriffs Association, prosecutors, uh, the
36:50
Speaker 10: Public Defender's Office uh, or just any number of other
36:53
Speaker 10: other people. Uh. So we have banking bills that wind
36:56
Speaker 10: up in for judiciary sometimes, I mean, you name it.
36:59
Speaker 10: So I'm gonna have to meet with those folks and
37:01
Speaker 10: just hear them out and give everybody a seat the table.
37:04
Speaker 10: And that's going to be a high demand of my time.
37:06
Speaker 10: In terms of just being face to face, which I
37:08
Speaker 10: want to do. I think that's the best way to
37:10
Speaker 10: communicate get things done, is just actually sitting down talking
37:12
Speaker 10: to people, which you know in this day and age
37:14
Speaker 10: when people are on their phones a lot. Communicating to
37:17
Speaker 10: me there's no substitute for a face to face conversation.
37:20
Speaker 3: Talking again with the new household this year A chair

37:35
Speaker 3: session itself a little bit later start this year because
37:38
Speaker 3: the governor, you know, put a new governor into very
37:41
Speaker 3: twelfth I think is going to be the starting date.
37:44
Speaker 3: What are you most looking forward to with the new session.
37:46
Speaker 10: It'll start the day for my birthday, so I hope
37:48
Speaker 10: that that goes well. What a birthday present?
37:50
Speaker 3: Yeah?
37:51
Speaker 10: The thing I'm looking forward to most is is getting
37:54
Speaker 10: things done. I ran for this position to get stuff done,
37:59
Speaker 10: and I mean that whole So I like to accomplish
38:01
Speaker 10: things like to be positive. I've been on your show
38:03
Speaker 10: multiple times. I hope you'll agree that I generally try
38:06
Speaker 10: to maintain a positive demeanor. I don't, you know, I don't.
38:09
Speaker 10: I don't say negative things better people. Sometimes you've got
38:11
Speaker 10: to be critical of other ideas and that's just part
38:15
Speaker 10: of politics and part of government, but I try it
38:17
Speaker 10: to be critical of people and personalities. So, uh, I
38:20
Speaker 10: most look forward to going there and solving challenges and
38:24
Speaker 10: getting stuff done. And I'll tell you this too, people
38:26
Speaker 10: can tell me I'm crazy. Actually enjoy being at the Capitol.
38:31
Speaker 10: I've formed a lot of genuine friendships there, and some
38:34
Speaker 10: of the people there I don't agree with on a
38:36
Speaker 10: lot of issues, but I consider those folks to be
38:39
Speaker 10: my friends. And we can sit down and we can
38:41
Speaker 10: talk about stuff and hash it out, and we may
38:43
Speaker 10: still not agree when when the conversation is over with,
38:46
Speaker 10: but we walk, we shake hands, and we walk away.
38:48
Speaker 11: Uh.
38:49
Speaker 10: I enjoy the process, and I enjoy hearing from people
38:51
Speaker 10: in my district. I mean, uh, sometimes I'll go out
38:55
Speaker 10: and people complain about some sort of road issue that
38:58
Speaker 10: they're having, and I'll drive look at it myself, and
39:01
Speaker 10: as long as I've got time to do those things, like,
39:03
Speaker 10: I really kind of like that. And that's small level stuff.
39:07
Speaker 10: But then the thing that I'll tell you I really
39:08
Speaker 10: enjoy the most is I love to focus on economic
39:13
Speaker 10: development for the state of West Virginia. Job recruitment, business recruitment,
39:18
Speaker 10: job creation, I was on the phone multiple times last
39:21
Speaker 10: week with some folks out of state trying to get
39:23
Speaker 10: them to do business with the state of West Virginia.
39:25
Speaker 10: I've got another phone call with somebody this later this week,
39:28
Speaker 10: trying to get them to come to the state of
39:30
Speaker 10: West Virginia. So, if you're gonna ask me what the
39:32
Speaker 10: thing is that really gets me excited the most, it's
39:34
Speaker 10: the proposition that we're going to get more jobs here
39:37
Speaker 10: for the people who live in the state and to
39:38
Speaker 10: attract more people to move to the state.
39:41
Speaker 3: You're a relative newcomer to the legislature. I mean, you've
39:44
Speaker 3: been there for a couple of years, but there are
39:46
Speaker 3: going there are some totally new faces, but that it
39:49
Speaker 3: will be there this year. If you had any advice
39:51
Speaker 3: to a new legislator coming into the House, or of
39:54
Speaker 3: the Senate for that matter, if you had any advice
39:55
Speaker 3: for anybody coming in, what might that be.
39:59
Speaker 10: Remember that guy gets two years in one mouth, do
40:02
Speaker 10: a lot of listening, which is good advice for anybody,
40:05
Speaker 10: you know. But a lot of people who run for office,
40:07
Speaker 10: they make promise that they're going to go there and
40:09
Speaker 10: change things. And that's something that's fine. You should do
40:13
Speaker 10: that but at the same time, you got to remember
40:16
Speaker 10: there's one hundred people in the House of Delegates. Just
40:18
Speaker 10: on our side, there's thirty four senators. So these issues
40:21
Speaker 10: take take a work, and they take a lot of compromise.
40:23
Speaker 10: And the Judiciary Committee, for example. You know, if people
40:26
Speaker 10: don't know this, by the time you see the stuff
40:29
Speaker 10: that happens on the floor of the House, stay that's
40:30
Speaker 10: the big room where we all set and it's a
40:32
Speaker 10: really nice chamber. Most of the work has already been
40:35
Speaker 10: done on a bill before it gets to the House floor.
40:37
Speaker 10: You'll see some significant changes occasionally on a floor, but
40:40
Speaker 10: usually the significant work is done in the committee and
40:43
Speaker 10: for people who haven't been to the Capitol. And I
40:45
Speaker 10: would encourage anyone to come to my committee room. It's
40:47
Speaker 10: a public These hearings are public. I'd love to see
40:49
Speaker 10: folks actually come and be part of the process, even
40:51
Speaker 10: if you're just going to watch. I mean, we have
40:53
Speaker 10: witnesses who coming unto oath, We have evidence presented, so
40:57
Speaker 10: you know, by the time he gets to the floor.
40:58
Speaker 10: I think some people think we just go there, we
41:00
Speaker 10: stand up and we argue, and you know, we point
41:02
Speaker 10: fingers and how hold a microphone? But there's a lot
41:04
Speaker 10: of work that goes into a bill before it gets there.
41:06
Speaker 10: The real work is done in the committee room. So,
41:08
Speaker 10: as you said, hundred percent. And that's one reason why
41:10
Speaker 10: you talk about the influence of the committees. It's because
41:12
Speaker 10: the build that comes out of the committee is the
41:13
Speaker 10: version that hits the floor, which might be a lot
41:16
Speaker 10: different than how it came into the committee room. So, yeah,
41:18
Speaker 10: the real work isn't committee.
41:20
Speaker 3: All right, delicate Acres, I do have a text here
41:23
Speaker 3: for you that says, I bet you the relish lobby
41:26
Speaker 3: won't get a meeting with the judiciary chair. Now, if
41:29
Speaker 3: you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, this is
41:31
Speaker 3: a thing that delegated. It never dies. Delegate Acres and
41:35
Speaker 3: his wife have a difference of opinion. And I love
41:38
Speaker 3: the fact that you know the silliest things, and the
41:42
Speaker 3: silliest things are what we need more of in this life.
41:44
Speaker 3: It's a difference of opinion between you and Judge Acres
41:48
Speaker 3: on hot dog relish on relish.
41:51
Speaker 10: Yeah, so this started. I didn't mean to suck up
41:53
Speaker 10: too much of our time talking about this, but West
41:56
Speaker 10: Virginia Day of last year, Junia twentieth of twenty twenty four.
42:00
Speaker 10: Or my wife loves a relation a hot dog and
42:02
Speaker 10: I'm against it. I tell her that a West Virginia
42:03
Speaker 10: hot dog is you know, it's chili mustard slaw on
42:05
Speaker 10: onions only, and she puts Relish on hers. So I've
42:08
Speaker 10: got a T shirt that says that it's chili mustard
42:10
Speaker 10: slaw onions and I put it on. Took a softie
42:12
Speaker 10: on West Virginia and I thought would get you know,
42:13
Speaker 10: maybe ten of my friends would like if it's dead.
42:16
Speaker 10: But then she put up some smarter like comment about
42:18
Speaker 10: Relish and somehow it just spun out of control, took
42:20
Speaker 10: on a life of its own, and for the next
42:22
Speaker 10: I don't know, five months, I was getting people to
42:25
Speaker 10: send in Relish to my house. I was getting relished
42:28
Speaker 10: T shirts sent to me, and she had course, you know,
42:30
Speaker 10: because my wife is the better version of us, she
42:33
Speaker 10: was getting most of the support, whether people like relish
42:35
Speaker 10: or not, there on her side. So but then we
42:37
Speaker 10: all see it turned in to a positive thing as well,
42:39
Speaker 10: because it was a joke. It was very lighthearted, but
42:43
Speaker 10: it kind of was a West Virginia issue because it
42:45
Speaker 10: dealt with WESTERNI hot dogs and so, you know, I
42:47
Speaker 10: just kind of made the most of it, and it
42:49
Speaker 10: was a way to actually just in a positive way,
42:52
Speaker 10: just communicating and talk to people, which is my favorite
42:54
Speaker 10: thing to do.
42:55
Speaker 2: Well.
42:55
Speaker 3: And again I think sometimes we need a little we
42:59
Speaker 3: need a little a BlimE every now and then. You
43:01
Speaker 3: can't take your kitting he too seriously, we need we need.
43:04
Speaker 6: More of that.
43:04
Speaker 5: Well.
43:05
Speaker 3: Uh, you know, it's always pleasure to having the show
43:07
Speaker 3: delegate house to share a chair. Any final work for
43:10
Speaker 3: you before.
43:10
Speaker 10: You go, h you mentioned my wife, So she's in
43:12
Speaker 10: the middle obviously of a very high profile trial. She's
43:15
Speaker 10: a judge here in Kannall County, and man, what a
43:17
Speaker 10: horrible situation that is. Uh, with the facts of that case.
43:20
Speaker 10: You guys are covering it at your station. That's a
43:22
Speaker 10: white feather a trial involving the child abuse. So I

46:56
Speaker 3: I think we've already covered that. Text in all capital letters,

47:35
Speaker 3: onder day one of the new and improved Trump administration.
47:39
Speaker 3: It was a day of a celebration or sorrow, depending
47:42
Speaker 3: on your perspective. And I had lots of people reach
47:45
Speaker 3: out to me from my perspective, and for me, it's complicated.
47:51
Speaker 3: You know, you've listened to me for nearly five years now.
47:53
Speaker 3: You know my story when it comes to President Trump.
47:55
Speaker 3: I voted for him in twenty sixteen and again in
47:57
Speaker 3: twenty twenty, but not in twenty twenty four. I just
48:01
Speaker 3: could not bring myself to do it for a variety
48:03
Speaker 3: of reasons. It didn't mean I've abandoned my mostly conservative
48:08
Speaker 3: slash libertarian views on a lot of things. I just
48:12
Speaker 3: could not go along with the chaos of the first
48:14
Speaker 3: Trump administration, or perhaps more so, the way Trump behaved
48:18
Speaker 3: or didn't behave on January sixth, and during the Biden presidency,
48:24
Speaker 3: I would have supported and voted for any other Republican
48:27
Speaker 3: on the debate stages. Okay, not Ramaswami because that guy
48:31
Speaker 3: was nuts. But the voters overwhelmingly chose former President Trump.
48:35
Speaker 3: Not my choice, but I'm okay with it because that's
48:38
Speaker 3: how this whole system works. To say I'm happy that
48:42
Speaker 3: Trump is the president of no, I probably not, but
48:46
Speaker 3: it doesn't matter. He's the president, and I'm going to
48:49
Speaker 3: support him and hope he does well. I'm kind of
48:51
Speaker 3: weird that way. I'm an American and I want my
48:54
Speaker 3: president to succeed. Novel consent. Also, I wanted former President
48:59
Speaker 3: Biden to do well, and Obama and Clinton, the Bush
49:01
Speaker 3: is Reagan Throwing, Carter Ford, Nixon, all the presidents during
49:05
Speaker 3: my lifetime. I want them to succeed and to do well.
49:08
Speaker 3: And you're never going to hear the words not my
49:11
Speaker 3: president come from my lips period. Donald Trump is my
49:15
Speaker 3: president now today one he did exactly what he said
49:20
Speaker 3: he was going to do with the executive orders. You know,
49:23
Speaker 3: them all. You know, you know them all by now.
49:26
Speaker 3: I am most troubled by the party end of the
49:28
Speaker 3: January sixth guys, to be honest, but that's just me,
49:34
Speaker 3: and most of our daily lives really aren't impacted that
49:37
Speaker 3: much by what goes on at sixteen hundred Pennsylvania Avenue.
49:43
Speaker 3: I guess one of my big issues for me to
49:45
Speaker 3: talk about this is the idolatry that a lot of
49:48
Speaker 3: people have for Donald Trump. I'm not talking about people
49:51
Speaker 3: that voted for him. I'm talking about and you know
49:54
Speaker 3: him as well as I do. There are a lot
49:55
Speaker 3: of people that treat him like a god, and he's
49:57
Speaker 3: the furthest thing from a god that you could probably
50:00
Speaker 3: ever imagine, as are most politicians for that matter, Democrat
50:04
Speaker 3: or Republican. I'm a little troubled as well scrolling social
50:08
Speaker 3: media and seeing grown people making comments like daddy's home.
50:13
Speaker 3: I didn't call my own late father daddy, and I'm
50:16
Speaker 3: definitely not going to call Donald Trump daddy.
50:18
Speaker 6: But you know, it is what it is.
50:21
Speaker 3: I hate that expression probably as badly as you do.
50:24
Speaker 3: He's the president of the United States. I will say
50:26
Speaker 3: this about the inauguration performance Kerrie Underwood yesterday the sound malfunctions,
50:33
Speaker 3: and she goes all acapella, and I wonder if that
50:35
Speaker 3: were happening in the Super Bowl here in a couple
50:36
Speaker 3: of weeks. How many Super Bowl performers could pour that up?
50:39
Speaker 3: Probably not many. So this morning, you're either extremely happy
50:43
Speaker 3: or you're ready to jump off a bridge. There was
50:46
Speaker 3: a quote from the always great George Will who said
50:50
Speaker 3: this is a direct quote. Today, many emotionally dilapidated obsessives
50:55
Speaker 3: experience either despair or euphoria about the inaugurations of presidents
50:59
Speaker 3: who come and go oh. Both groups should rethink what
51:02
Speaker 3: they expect from politics and why they do it. Let
51:06
Speaker 3: that one sink in for a moment. Tex says Dave,
51:10
Speaker 3: no contest. The best hot dog is a spring Hill
51:12
Speaker 3: pastry hot dog, says a text. Okay, all right, t J.
51:18
Speaker 3: Meadows is here, hay do on man.
51:19
Speaker 15: I'm down in the dumps, But not because of the inaugural,
51:22
Speaker 15: because Ohio State one.
51:24
Speaker 3: You're a You're not a Buckeye fan, are not at all?
51:27
Speaker 3: I'm a Georgia Bulldog fan. They watched it at home
51:29
Speaker 3: like I did. So what's on a big show today?
51:31
Speaker 10: Bud?
51:32
Speaker 3: So we kick off ten oh six, Greg Thomas is here.
51:34
Speaker 15: We'll talk the inaugural, we'll talk executive orders, all things
51:37
Speaker 15: President Trump, and much more. Jared Halprin from Washington, DC
51:40
Speaker 15: at ten twenty three. He'll go through those eos one
51:43
Speaker 15: by one. We'll get a you know, check on where
51:45
Speaker 15: we are coming up. At ten forty five, Brad mclaheney
51:47
Speaker 15: has a piece at wv metro news dot com talking
51:49
Speaker 15: about West Virginians who were JA sixers and otherwise they
51:53
Speaker 15: got pardons.
51:53
Speaker 10: We'll get into that.
51:55
Speaker 15: Robert Bolton, Fairmont State University political scientist joins us at
51:59
Speaker 15: eleven six again to talk about all things Donald Trump.
52:03
Speaker 15: And then eleven thirty three, Chris Hamilton from the West
52:05
Speaker 15: Virginia Coal Association joins us. David's cold outside. Really, PJM
52:09
Speaker 15: has actually issued a voltage alerts, which you know, loosely says, hey,
52:14
Speaker 15: we gotta we gotta watch here. We gotta make sure
52:16
Speaker 15: the grid maintains integrity. Cole has skyrocketed in use in
52:20
Speaker 15: the last couple of days. Chris will talk about that
52:23
Speaker 15: and we'll talk about the future of COLE.
52:24
Speaker 3: All right, DJ, I appreciate you being here, man. We
52:26
Speaker 3: gotta go. My thanks to Tom Sussman for Delegate in
