- 0:53Speaker 1: Don't let a memory torture me.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Whiskey River, don't run dry.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I fire all I got.
- 1:04Speaker 5: To take care of me.
- 1:08Speaker 6: Whiskey River, take my mind.
- 1:10Speaker 3: It is All Welly Wednesday.
- 1:12Speaker 1: We thank you for being with us. Wednesday means Scott Clendenin.
- 1:16Speaker 1: He will be in here in about 30 minutes. And, um,
- 1:22Speaker 1: we're going to hear from Jeff Lebby, the Mississippi state coaches.
- 1:27Speaker 1: They get ready to host Alabama this weekend. Mallory is
- 1:31Speaker 1: here with some entertainment news in the second hour as well.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And we're keeping our eyes on October playoff baseball.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And it ain't even October yet.
- 1:44Speaker 1: They're playing October playoff baseball, but Hey, uh, It's the
- 1:50Speaker 1: last day of September. Bryce Harper hit a home run.
- 1:55Speaker 1: He's also singled, and he just grounded out. So there's
- 1:58Speaker 1: two outs in the top of the 10th inning right now. Phillies,
- 2:03Speaker 1: who rallied for two of the eight, three. Homestanding Braves, three.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Atlanta won yesterday. The Braves are trying to advance to
- 2:13Speaker 1: the Division Series. And starting up here in just a moment, Astros,
- 2:20Speaker 1: White Sox, Hunter Brown on the mound for the Astros
- 2:26Speaker 1: who lost yesterday and have to win today or their
- 2:31Speaker 1: season is over. Red Sox, Yankees. Sonny Gray, Max Freed
- 2:37Speaker 1: tonight at the stadium. The Yankees won last night. They
- 2:43Speaker 1: won handily last night. Red Sox have to win to
- 2:48Speaker 1: stay alive. And Cubs Padres. I don't think there's a man, woman,
- 2:58Speaker 1: or child alive that doesn't enjoy a good beverage. Um,
- 3:05Speaker 1: The Phillies have just hit a go-ahead home run in
- 3:09Speaker 1: the top of the 10th inning. Jeff Boehm, is that right,
- 3:16Speaker 1: I believe? He has just homered for the Phillies. And
- 3:21Speaker 1: we may have a game three in that series. Cubs Padres.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Did I say the Padres won last night?
- 3:28Speaker 3: They did.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And they can eliminate a team that I think had
- 3:33Speaker 1: high hopes.
- 3:34Speaker 3: The Padres... Have been good, too.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Of course, they play in the brutal NL West.
- 3:39Speaker 3: 4-3 Phillies. Two outs.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Top of the 10th inning. Mention Astros White Sox. Hunter Brown.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Sean Burke.
- 3:53Speaker 3: 5-3 yesterday.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And that game will be starting here in just a moment.
- 4:00Speaker 1: We'll keep you updated on that.
- 4:04Speaker 3: The We had this yesterday.
- 4:08Speaker 1: The team that wins game one of the best of
- 4:12Speaker 1: three series, I think, wins like 82% of the time,
- 4:15Speaker 1: something like that.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Go Sox! Am I right, people?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Go Sox! You can hear the Astros radio broadcast on
- 4:28Speaker 1: Willie this afternoon.
- 4:30Speaker 3: The crowd at.
- 4:35Speaker 1: The icebox yesterday booed a lot. The announced crowd was 40,000. No,
- 4:47Speaker 1: that's not true. The announced crowd was 34,000. Capacity is 40,000.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But look, I'm not going to rag on Astros fans.
- 4:56Speaker 1: This is a middle-of-the-week early game, okay?
- 5:02Speaker 3: I get that.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Uh, Bennett Sousa after the game said the lack of support,
- 5:10Speaker 1: even the anti support was not lost on Astros player.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie to you. He said, I
- 5:17Speaker 1: was pretty bleeped off in the dugout. When I came
- 5:19Speaker 1: in about the booze, this team has laid a lot
- 5:23Speaker 1: on the line to be in this position to give
- 5:24Speaker 1: fans a playoff game, a playoff series.
- 5:28Speaker 3: We want their support. Uh, uh, Shame, isn't it?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Apparently, there have been some upset alumni at that school
- 5:44Speaker 1: in Austin because athletic director Chris Del Conte felt obligated.
- 5:53Speaker 3: To respond today.
- 5:59Speaker 1: To the, in his words, embarrassing on-field celebrations by the
- 6:05Speaker 1: Longhorns at Tennessee on Saturday. Del Conte addressed the fallout
- 6:12Speaker 1: by defensive end Colin Simmons and running back for Lee
- 6:15Speaker 1: Brown during his weekly 40 Acres Insider blog post yesterday.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I'm not happy about that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I know none of us are, and it was embarrassing
- 6:29Speaker 1: to our proud and widely respected football team athletics program
- 6:33Speaker 1: and university. It certainly raised very warranted concerns that many
- 6:39Speaker 1: of you shared with me, drew a lot of attention,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and I understand why. Similar player conduct said Del Conte
- 6:49Speaker 1: cannot happen again. I don't know what that means. Is
- 6:55Speaker 1: that a threat to Sark? Is it a threat to
- 6:59Speaker 1: the next player? I don't know that. But a lot
- 7:04Speaker 1: of people upset and acknowledged by Del Conte. Many of
- 7:14Speaker 1: you shared your concerns with me.
- 7:16Speaker 3: He said.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Night two of the opening of hockey season. Thank goodness.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Penguins Flyers, Islanders Maple Leafs, Kings and Avalanche tonight. The
- 7:36Speaker 1: first game is on TNT slash True TV and the
- 7:41Speaker 1: late game, Kings Avalanche, is on the True TV TNT.
- 7:47Speaker 1: The Islanders Maple Leafs are streamed on the ESPN +.
- 7:53Speaker 1: The Dallas Stars will finally get their season underway Friday night.
- 8:00Speaker 1: They host the St.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Louis Blues.
- 8:03Speaker 1: That game on TNT and TruTV at 7 o'clock. I'm
- 8:08Speaker 1: very excited about getting to watch that game, by the way. And...
- 8:13Speaker 1: Arizona State hockey coach Greg Powers has been placed on
- 8:18Speaker 1: paid administrative leave after several members of his team asked
- 8:24Speaker 1: the university to remove him pending an investigation into a
- 8:29Speaker 1: teammate's collapse. After thorough and careful deliberation, says athletic Arizona
- 8:37Speaker 1: State A.D. Graham Rossini, I believe this is the best
- 8:41Speaker 1: move to provide stability to the hockey program. In a
- 8:45Speaker 1: letter sent to the school Monday and made public, seven
- 8:48Speaker 1: hockey players detailed the August 20th workout plan.
- 8:52Speaker 3: In which defenseman Matthew.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Mayich collapsed, disputed the findings of the university's review, and
- 9:00Speaker 1: asked the school to place all staff responsible on administrative leave.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Powers would not comment further today. He declined to answer
- 9:10Speaker 1: reporters' questions during a news conference last week. Mayich has
- 9:15Speaker 1: been hospitalized since his collapse, led by a former Green Beret.
- 9:22Speaker 1: and he is unlikely to recover, according to teammate, said
- 9:31Speaker 1: Maya suffered a heat stroke that reduced the.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Flow of oxygen to his brain. Even, and.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It begs the question, Seriously, Arizona State has a hockey team?
- 9:55Speaker 3: I mean, I know, look. Big Ten has hockey. They've
- 10:02Speaker 3: got good hockey.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Big 12 don't have hockey. They've got some club hockey teams.
- 10:12Speaker 1: There's one here. I think there's one in Austin.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Austin.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I don't know where Arizona State plays hockey. I guess
- 10:21Speaker 1: they play an independent schedule. I mean, good on them.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I'd love for A & M to have a hockey team.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And I know all the A & M administrative officials
- 10:35Speaker 1: listen to me every day, so I'm just telling you,
- 10:39Speaker 1: let's get some hockey here.
- 10:42Speaker 3: I would be a big supporter. Okay, it's 4-3-2. Bottom
- 10:48Speaker 3: of the ninth inning, Phillies, Braves.
- 10:51Speaker 1: If the Phillies hold on, there will be a game
- 10:54Speaker 1: three tomorrow in this wild card playoff. The Astros game
- 11:00Speaker 1: is just getting started with Hunter Brown on the mound,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and we will keep.
- 11:05Speaker 3: You updated with that. All right, we're going to take
- 11:08Speaker 3: a break. We're going to come back.
- 11:10Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Jeff Levy, the Mississippi State coach,
- 11:14Speaker 1: among other things, after this for ANCO Insurance.
- 11:20Speaker 8: Anco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 11:23Speaker 8: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 11:27Speaker 8: our name has changed, we're still the same local team
- 11:30Speaker 8: you know and trust. Now with even more to offer,
- 11:32Speaker 8: from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits, we're

- 11:42Speaker 8: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team. Anco Insurance,
- 11:46Speaker 8: a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.

- 11:55Speaker 9: Pub game day show, and it's brought to you by Texags.com.
- 11:59Speaker 9: Stop by Carney's Pub, spin the Zone prize wheel, say
- 12:02Speaker 9: hi to Olin Cease and even me. Hi, I'm Louie Bolina.
- 12:06Speaker 9: Take advantage of the amazing craft beer menu. Enjoy the
- 12:09Speaker 9: fantastic food, and you can watch all the games on
- 12:12Speaker 9: the Carnytron. It's the Carney's Pub game day show, 2
- 12:16Speaker 9: o'clock this Saturday right here on The Zone.
- 12:29Speaker 10: Shotgun Willie sits around in his underwear. Fighting on a bullet,
- 12:37Speaker 10: pulling out all of his hair. Shotgun Willie's got all
- 12:44Speaker 10: of his family there.
- 12:47Speaker 3: That's the title track.
- 12:49Speaker 1: From the album that made me a Willie Nelson fan,
- 12:52Speaker 1: and that would have been about, and check me out
- 12:55Speaker 1: on this one, Stan.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I'm seldom wrong, but I'm going to.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Say 1973, 74, 72.
- 13:00Speaker 11: 1973.
- 13:00Speaker 12: Ha!
- 13:00Speaker 3: That was my first guess.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Always go with your first guess.
- 13:04Speaker 13: Yeah, I didn't.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Oh, that's a shame. Lead off double by the White Sox.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And here we go. Yeah, I didn't know who Willie
- 13:27Speaker 1: was in 1973. He had just moved to Austin. And
- 13:32Speaker 1: I'm listening to Coke FM, Progressive Country, because Jerry Jeff
- 13:37Speaker 1: had already been there.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Mike was there. Michael Murphy was there.
- 13:39Speaker 7: B.W.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Stevenson was there.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And I hear this song. And the first words are,
- 13:47Speaker 1: Shotgun Willie sits around in his underwear, biting on a
- 13:53Speaker 1: bullet and pulling out all of his hair.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Shotgun Willie has all of his family there.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I went, I'm in. I didn't know who this was.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I said, I'm all in. And that was 53 years ago.
- 14:11Speaker 1: It's like, yep, that was my introduction to Willie. I
- 14:14Speaker 1: didn't know he had written crazy. I didn't know he'd
- 14:17Speaker 1: written Nightlife. I didn't know he'd written Funny How Time
- 14:24Speaker 1: Slips Away or Family Bible. I didn't know any of
- 14:28Speaker 1: that stuff. I just knew that whoever wrote that song.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Signed me up.
- 14:36Speaker 1: And, you know, not long after that was what many
- 14:43Speaker 1: still call his best album, Phases and Stages. And then
- 14:48Speaker 1: after that, red-headed stranger. And then all hell broke loose.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So there you go. Is it 1-0 if they already scored?
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah, they already scored. That's a shame.
- 15:05Speaker 1: That was quick, wasn't it? A double and a single,
- 15:09Speaker 1: I think. Or a single and a double. Something like that.
- 15:13Speaker 3: 1-0 White Sox. And the Braves down to their last out.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning and
- 15:27Speaker 1: traveling the Phillies 4-3. We're keeping you updated on a
- 15:29Speaker 1: little playoff baseball.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:34Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Jeff Levy. His team is
- 15:37Speaker 1: hosting Alabama. Mississippi State is ranked 16th in this week's
- 15:43Speaker 1: AP poll. The Tide come in ranked 7th. I think
- 15:49Speaker 1: this is right. Alabama has defeated Mississippi State 16 straight times.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And they played 16 games over a course of like
- 16:02Speaker 1: 18 or 19 years.
- 16:03Speaker 3: So they played a lot.
- 16:05Speaker 1: These two teams have played a lot in a league
- 16:09Speaker 1: whose schedule, as we know here in College Station, can
- 16:12Speaker 1: be really, really funky.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Hey, I'm going to play Georgia. Now I hear that
- 16:19Speaker 3: was right. Okay. Here's Jeff Lebby.
- 16:24Speaker 7: Yeah, it feels really good. You know, I got so
- 16:27Speaker 7: much trust in Zach.
- 16:29Speaker 14: And our defensive staff to be able to go put
- 16:47Speaker 14: a great plan together and get our guys to go
- 16:49Speaker 14: execute and play well. And he's a guy that, man,
- 16:52Speaker 14: he's easy to get behind, and we are. We're all
- 16:56Speaker 14: pulling the rope the same way. I love our staff.
- 16:59Speaker 14: The people inside this building, man, have just been great.
- 17:03Speaker 14: And so when you get to do it with people
- 17:05Speaker 14: that love to do it and do it for the
- 17:07Speaker 14: right reasons and are good to the core, man, it
- 17:09Speaker 14: makes it fun.
- 17:12Speaker 11: Coach, you built your roster for times like this where
- 17:14Speaker 11: calendars turn into October, some guys dinged up, some we
- 17:17Speaker 11: may know about later, but just before you're at this
- 17:20Speaker 11: point in the year, just talk about where you feel
- 17:22Speaker 11: like your depth's at heading into October.
- 17:24Speaker 7: Yeah, we are. We're banged up for our guys right now, man.
- 17:27Speaker 14: It's about going all in, going all the way in,
- 17:30Speaker 14: doing a great job taking care of our bodies, understanding
- 17:34Speaker 14: what we've got coming down the pipe from the standpoint
- 17:36Speaker 14: of man saturday morning at 11 and then we get
- 17:39Speaker 14: to reset and we've got this open date on the
- 17:40Speaker 14: back end of it so everybody inside our walls all
- 17:44Speaker 14: in doing everything we can and just to take that
- 17:47Speaker 14: next step and go be better on saturday morning but
- 17:50Speaker 14: that's going to be us and everybody else from a
- 17:52Speaker 14: dinged up standpoint that's part of playing in this league
- 17:54Speaker 14: but i like where.
- 17:55Speaker 15: We're at.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Coach keelan russell's another young quarterback who's starting to come
- 18:00Speaker 2: to his own What's it going to take for this
- 18:02Speaker 2: defense to prevent him from getting comfortable this weekend?
- 18:04Speaker 7: Yeah, we are.
- 18:05Speaker 14: We're going to have to move him off the spot.
- 18:06Speaker 14: We're going to have to do a great job tackling.
- 18:08Speaker 14: That's going to be a huge piece of it, and
- 18:11Speaker 14: he has. He's played really, really well. He's been incredibly productive.
- 18:15Speaker 14: There's been explosive plays. He's got great talent around him,
- 18:19Speaker 14: and so for us it is. It's going to be
- 18:21Speaker 14: about applying pressure, getting our fans really involved and excited
- 18:26Speaker 14: about what's going on in between those white lines.
- 18:29Speaker 16: Going back to the first question about the staff, you
- 18:31Speaker 16: brought in some new pieces in the offensive staff. You
- 18:33Speaker 16: brought back Mason Miller and all those. First, are you
- 18:37Speaker 16: really pleased, even impressed, how quickly you guys have meshed
- 18:39Speaker 16: with it? And second part, what's it like having all
- 18:42Speaker 16: these toys to play with at wide receiver.
- 18:44Speaker 7: And running back and Camario to use them?
- 18:46Speaker 14: Yeah, I think the offensive staff piece of it, when
- 18:49Speaker 14: you look at it with Phillip Montgomery, with.
- 18:51Speaker 7: Kevin Johns, there was system knowledge.
- 18:53Speaker 14: And so that piece of it makes it really a
- 18:57Speaker 14: lot easier to when they understand from a system standpoint
- 19:00Speaker 14: how we're going to go attack.
- 19:02Speaker 7: And there's new wrinkles every single year.
- 19:04Speaker 14: But I think that has made it really, really smooth
- 19:07Speaker 14: from a transition standpoint. At the receiver position, we've got
- 19:11Speaker 14: guys that can go make plays. And we've got to put.
- 19:14Speaker 7: Them in positions of success.
- 19:16Speaker 14: And we're going to need them to play at a
- 19:18Speaker 14: really high level, man, week in and week out. But
- 19:20Speaker 14: proud of the development of that group. We're going to
- 19:23Speaker 14: continue to need more and more and play cleaner and cleaner.
- 19:28Speaker 17: Kamaria talked to us about the Warriors mentality and having
- 19:31Speaker 17: the right mindset to come back in and make those
- 19:33Speaker 17: plays after getting a little banged up. And he talked
- 19:36Speaker 17: to us in preseason camp as well about just being
- 19:39Speaker 17: conscious of his body and his importance and just being available.
- 19:42Speaker 17: How have you seen that part of his game grow,
- 19:44Speaker 17: and how does that factor in this week after getting
- 19:46Speaker 17: a little banged up ahead of a big game?
- 19:48Speaker 7: Yeah, I think he's done a lot.
- 19:50Speaker 14: Much better job of understanding not taking the unnecessary hit.
- 19:54Speaker 7: Obviously we've seen him slide there.
- 19:56Speaker 14: I guess it was maybe the second play, third play
- 19:58Speaker 14: of the game after he gets the first down. So
- 20:02Speaker 14: him being able to continue to build on that, understanding
- 20:06Speaker 14: in the pocket, there's going to be things happening, having
- 20:08Speaker 14: two hands on the ball, not taking unnecessary shots at
- 20:11Speaker 14: that point as well, uh, will be important for him
- 20:14Speaker 14: said this at the beginning of the year. But our,
- 20:16Speaker 14: our very first goal for him was to start a
- 20:18Speaker 14: minimum of 13 games.
- 20:20Speaker 7: And then we were going to move from there.
- 20:22Speaker 14: But, uh, uh, he is, he's, he's all the way
- 20:25Speaker 14: in on taking care of himself and knowing how important
- 20:27Speaker 14: it is.
- 20:29Speaker 15: Coach, you've, kind of ignored, I guess, the stats for
- 20:33Speaker 15: previous schools for some of these wide receivers and just
- 20:35Speaker 15: looked at what you're getting in those wide receivers. Case
- 20:38Speaker 15: in point, Anthony Evans and Brennan Thompson, those guys. But
- 20:42Speaker 15: what have you seen from Ant? I know you were
- 20:44Speaker 15: expecting him to do this. What have you seen from
- 20:46Speaker 15: him as far as his growth over the last year
- 20:48Speaker 15: to become the receiver he's become after not having that
- 20:51Speaker 15: production before he got here?
- 20:53Speaker 7: He's continued to spend time.
- 20:56Speaker 14: He's working at it in a way that even a
- 20:59Speaker 14: year ago today, he was he just wasn't as mature
- 21:02Speaker 14: as he is today. And so there's been a great
- 21:05Speaker 14: growth for him, really proud of him. He wants a
- 21:08Speaker 14: couple back from the other day, been on him all morning. He,
- 21:12Speaker 14: he had a, he played his butt off and made
- 21:14Speaker 14: some incredible plays. He had a couple opportunities to have
- 21:18Speaker 14: some huge ones that man that we want back. So
- 21:22Speaker 14: for him, it's about taking advantage of every opportunity, continue
- 21:25Speaker 14: to play cleaner and cleaner. This guy's playing really good
- 21:28Speaker 14: football for us and proud of his toughness and and
- 21:31Speaker 14: how he's going about his business.
- 21:32Speaker 15: And, too, to follow up on that, Camario had mentioned
- 21:35Speaker 15: that Ant was kind of down on himself a little
- 21:37Speaker 15: bit going into that last position. What did you see
- 21:39Speaker 15: from him to kind of put the first half behind
- 21:42Speaker 15: him and have that amazing catch he had in the
- 21:44Speaker 15: fourth quarter?
- 21:45Speaker 14: Yeah, Ant still, like, he's frustrated in the moment because
- 21:48Speaker 14: how things had gone on, but he's a guy that
- 21:51Speaker 14: plays with great confidence. So you know when the time
- 21:56Speaker 14: shows up and the ball needs to go his way,
- 21:58Speaker 14: he's going to have the ability to go make the play.
- 22:00Speaker 14: And so never doubted that for a second. There was
- 22:03Speaker 14: plenty of frustration because of how we played, obviously, in
- 22:06Speaker 14: the second and the third quarter. But Newham would make
- 22:09Speaker 14: the play if he got a chance to.
- 22:13Speaker 11: Coach, Kamario was sacked four times, I believe that was
- 22:15Speaker 11: at the season high, but pressured a lot as well.
- 22:17Speaker 11: What do you see from the offensive line tape, and
- 22:19Speaker 11: how do you fix that going into this weekend?
- 22:22Speaker 7: Yeah, we did.
- 22:23Speaker 14: We had moments inside the game where we were really clean,
- 22:26Speaker 14: and then we had moments where, man, we've got to
- 22:29Speaker 14: continue to clean up. The fundamental pieces of it I'm
- 22:32Speaker 14: going to continue to talk about. Those guys playing clean
- 22:36Speaker 14: fundamentally to give us the best chance to protect one,
- 22:40Speaker 14: but there was. There were some issues from a game standpoint.
- 22:43Speaker 14: We didn't do a great job on the penetrator a
- 22:45Speaker 14: couple of times, and And that's part of being able
- 22:48Speaker 14: to clean that up as we watch the Tate and
- 22:50Speaker 14: be a huge focus for us this week.
- 22:52Speaker 7: And just a quick follow-up, do you have an update
- 22:54Speaker 7: on Isaac Smith? I do not. We'll let the Wednesday
- 22:57Speaker 7: report speak to that.
- 23:02Speaker 11: It's been 19 years since States beat Alabama. They've won
- 23:05Speaker 11: the last 16 in this matchup. How does that factor
- 23:08Speaker 11: into how you go about this week? And if it doesn't,
- 23:11Speaker 11: what does factor into the matchup from a mindset standpoint?
- 23:13Speaker 11: And what does it take to execute that?
- 23:15Speaker 14: Yeah, it means absolutely zero to me or our guys.
- 23:19Speaker 14: I think we're concerned with being as good as we
- 23:21Speaker 14: can possibly be on Saturday and just be us. I'm
- 23:25Speaker 14: going to continue to talk about really good football teams
- 23:27Speaker 14: get better every week.
- 23:28Speaker 7: And so that's our goal. That's our focus.
- 23:32Speaker 14: If we'll do that and we'll take great care of
- 23:34Speaker 14: the ball, then we'll be right where we need to be.
- 23:38Speaker 16: Your receivers are known for playing fast, but are you
- 23:40Speaker 16: impressed with how physical they're playing as well? They're dragging tacklers.
- 23:43Speaker 16: They're breaking tacklers. They're kind of picking up where Fluff
- 23:46Speaker 16: and Collin do with the running backs. Is that just
- 23:48Speaker 16: a mark of the physicality of the offense as a whole?
- 23:51Speaker 7: Yeah, we do. We talk about that a ton.
- 23:53Speaker 14: Guys that carry the football, that's a great judge to me,
- 23:56Speaker 14: passing the eye test, the physicality, how we finish, plus-two mentality.
- 24:00Speaker 14: everybody that touches the football. So we're going to have
- 24:03Speaker 14: to continue to build on that. We're going to need
- 24:05Speaker 14: to win our one-on-ones in space this Saturday and be
- 24:07Speaker 14: able to run through trash and run through tackles. That'll
- 24:10Speaker 14: be a big piece of it.
- 24:13Speaker 3: That's Jeff Levy.
- 24:16Speaker 1: And the last time Mississippi State beat Alabama was 19
- 24:21Speaker 1: years ago in 2007.
- 24:22Speaker 3: And this just in. In a repeat of yesterday's game one, the.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Chicago White Sox have jumped all over the Astros in
- 24:40Speaker 1: the first inning. They have scored four runs off Hunter Brown,
- 24:45Speaker 1: and they are still batting with a runner on in
- 24:49Speaker 1: the first again. White Sox four, the Disastros nothing. So
- 24:58Speaker 1: there you go. Um, Eight more innings, and the Astros, oh,
- 25:04Speaker 1: there's another base hit. I believe it's time to get
- 25:07Speaker 1: Hunter Brown out of this game. But wait, he used
- 25:11Speaker 1: Abreu yesterday. He used Hayter yesterday when it was 5-0.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Who will he bring in to replace Hunter Brown, who
- 25:20Speaker 1: is struggling? And I can't hear the audio, but I
- 25:26Speaker 1: can see the Astro fans with the bewildered look on
- 25:31Speaker 1: their faces. And I can just hear the booing right
- 25:35Speaker 1: through the TV set. Apparently, they booed the home team yesterday. And, man,
- 25:42Speaker 1: if they were booing yesterday, this is a worse start.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Because yesterday was 3-0, I believe, in the first inning.
- 25:48Speaker 1: And now we've got 4-0. in the, uh, in the inning. And,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you know, we could, we could probably.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Jump on here, uh, and listen to a little of that.
- 26:04Speaker 1: That's being broadcast on Willie.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Don't we have that on the board there?
- 26:08Speaker 1: Stan, can we bring that Astros up and, and here, uh, and,
- 26:14Speaker 1: and just see if we can, um, listen in for
- 26:18Speaker 1: just a second. Um, I don't know that we can.
- 26:23Speaker 1: But anyway, it's 4-0. There is one out and two
- 26:29Speaker 1: on in the top of the first inning. And Hunter
- 26:34Speaker 1: Brown is struggling. And by the way, final score, Phillies 4,
- 26:41Speaker 1: Braves 3. Game 3 and deciding game in Atlanta tomorrow.
- 26:47Speaker 1: And Bryce Harper hit the tying home run. And two
- 26:53Speaker 1: very entertaining games, by the way. Very entertaining games. Of course,
- 26:58Speaker 1: we don't get to see them. They're like 1 o'clock
- 27:00Speaker 1: in the afternoon, which is crazy. But that's a whole
- 27:03Speaker 1: other deal. I was going to talk a little bit
- 27:05Speaker 1: about Jeff Levy and Mississippi State. He has a quarterback.
- 27:09Speaker 1: That quarterback's really good. He has some other talent. He
- 27:13Speaker 1: brought in some players. What the portal has done, you
- 27:16Speaker 1: already know this. But for all the consternation and all
- 27:20Speaker 1: the angst, what it's done, it's given the Indianas and
- 27:26Speaker 1: the Mississippi states of the world hope.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Did they score another run? Oh, shoot. But that was
- 27:31Speaker 3: a wild pitch. We moved runners up. Okay, beautiful.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Now a single will score two more runs. It's given
- 27:39Speaker 1: the Mississippi states of the world hope, right? I mean,
- 27:44Speaker 1: that's just the bottom line. And I'm not saying Mississippi
- 27:49Speaker 1: State's going to win the SEC this year.
- 27:51Speaker 3: I think they're going to get beat by Alabama Saturday.
- 27:54Speaker 1: But you see these programs rising because you get a
- 28:00Speaker 1: few good players and you make the right call on
- 28:04Speaker 1: those players, by the way, and you have a quarterback
- 28:10Speaker 1: like they obviously have in Stark Vegas, then you have
- 28:15Speaker 1: a shot. And this kid playing quarterback for Mississippi State,
- 28:21Speaker 1: it's going to give them a shot.
- 28:24Speaker 3: It'll give them a shot on Saturday against Alabama coming in.
- 28:27Speaker 1: But guess what? Alabama has a really good quarterback, too.
- 28:32Speaker 1: If you haven't seen this kid play, he's good. And
- 28:39Speaker 1: Coleman Williams, who was just Williams for two years at Alabama,
- 28:44Speaker 1: You know this kid, when he catches his ball, he's
- 28:46Speaker 1: really good. Because he is fast.
- 28:48Speaker 3: He is twitchy. He tends to drop some passes.
- 28:53Speaker 1: But he's already had a couple of three touchdown catches
- 28:58Speaker 1: from Russell. I think he had two last week in
- 29:00Speaker 1: the game. And Alabama's running the ball a little bit better.
- 29:06Speaker 3: They're defending.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Alabama's going to be a handful. And they get Georgia up.
- 29:14Speaker 1: next week maybe, or the week after, they play Georgia.
- 29:17Speaker 1: But they play them in Tuscaloosa, and even if they didn't,
- 29:21Speaker 1: remember last year, they went to Athens and into Georgia's
- 29:26Speaker 1: home winning streak. Alabama has kind of owned Georgia. Even
- 29:32Speaker 1: with the Kirby dominance, Alabama knows how to beat Georgia.
- 29:37Speaker 1: That's going to be a big game coming up.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Did you get the date on that game, Stan? It's
- 29:44Speaker 3: next week. It is next week. Okay, cool.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Have they set the time on that game already?
- 29:50Speaker 18: 6.30.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Okay, beautiful. Next week, Alabama-Georgia. That'll be fun. Okay, we're
- 29:58Speaker 3: going to take a break. I'm still waiting for that
- 30:01Speaker 3: base hit. Oh, it's a walk.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Now the bases are loaded. So a grand slam, and
- 30:07Speaker 1: that will be it for Hunter Brown. He pitches two-thirds
- 30:11Speaker 1: of an inning. He leaves trailing four to nothing and
- 30:15Speaker 1: is responsible for all three runners on base right now.
- 30:21Speaker 3: So there you go. That's a shame.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Galleria is just kind of one of those magical names
- 30:32Speaker 1: in our community because when you mention it, people know, oh,

- 34:07Speaker 3: Sunday. Yes, Sunday.
- 34:09Speaker 1: That's the tiebreaker game. Brian Copper's Cove, College Station in Georgetown. Arkansas,
- 34:15Speaker 1: Texas A & M.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Pitt, Virginia Tech.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Penn State, Northwestern. Central Florida and Houston. Navy and Air Force. Alabama,

- 34:33Speaker 1: Make your picks. Anybody can win. Anybody but me.
- 34:39Speaker 3: I'm terrible.
- 34:39Speaker 1: But, hey, don't let that stop you. You can win
- 34:42Speaker 1: weekly prize. Somebody's going to get their name engraved on
- 34:46Speaker 1: the cup. It's funny how year after year after year,
- 34:49Speaker 1: the same people seem to rise to the top of
- 34:53Speaker 1: our leaderboard.
- 34:54Speaker 3: And I'm going to tell you something, how screwy this
- 34:58Speaker 3: year is.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Robert Cessna is near the top of my leaderboard, and
- 35:03Speaker 1: he's leading the Prague poll at the Eagle. Now, I've
- 35:08Speaker 1: already written a note to him when I turned.
- 35:10Speaker 3: My picks in today.
- 35:12Speaker 1: I believe he is stealing from Gary Blair's bookie. And
- 35:17Speaker 1: that's why Robert is doing so well so far with
- 35:21Speaker 1: this contest. Because there's no way he can win either
- 35:27Speaker 1: of these contests.
- 35:29Speaker 13: He's never been close before.
- 35:31Speaker 3: It's just not possible.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I've already, for the second year in a row... I'm
- 35:43Speaker 1: playing the game under protest. I have introduced a formal
- 35:47Speaker 1: protest for the Prague poll. And if it gets any
- 35:49Speaker 1: worse with this contest, I may introduce a protest to.
- 35:53Speaker 3: My own poll.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Friday's Fairless Football Forecast Contest, the Division of Sports Talk, presented.
- 36:00Speaker 3: By Chad Jones Law and Zorneman Flooring.
- 36:04Speaker 1: All right, we're joined in studio by Scott Clendenin.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 36:10Speaker 1: I'm sorry that you're not going to get to go
- 36:12Speaker 1: to the ALDS in Houston.
- 36:19Speaker 13: Yes.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I know you had high hopes for that.
- 36:22Speaker 7: Yes.
- 36:25Speaker 1: But the good news is, if the Astros can come
- 36:29Speaker 1: back without their fans booing them too much, Hunter Brown
- 36:34Speaker 1: will be available tomorrow.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Why is that?
- 36:37Speaker 3: I think he only threw about 25 pitches.
- 36:40Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Could have thrown 30. I mean, he threw a lot
- 36:42Speaker 3: of pitches, but he should be fine to come back.
- 36:46Speaker 4: You think?
- 36:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Will he throw any better than he did today?
- 36:49Speaker 3: How many did Hayter throw yesterday? Do you know?
- 36:52Speaker 4: Like 12.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Oh, so he's good.
- 36:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 3: How about Abreu? You don't want him in, right?
- 36:59Speaker 4: No, I don't want Brian King in.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Oh, okay. He was terrible.
- 37:04Speaker 16: Yes.
- 37:05Speaker 22: I don't know if the Astros have won a game
- 37:07Speaker 22: that Brian King, other than the game against.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Are you saying Espada's not real good at handling pitchers?
- 37:15Speaker 3: Hey, how about that? The Astros just got a home run.
- 37:18Speaker 4: By who?
- 37:19Speaker 3: I'm going to say it's the little guy. Pena. Oh,
- 37:22Speaker 3: it's Pena.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Led off home run.
- 37:24Speaker 3: We had him on the show yesterday.
- 37:26Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 37:26Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 37:27Speaker 3: And apparently now the fans are clapping and not booing.
- 37:32Speaker 4: Well, okay.
- 37:40Speaker 3: I like this Jeremy Pena kid. He's pretty good.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Steve Stone would not tell me that.
- 37:47Speaker 23: Really?
- 37:47Speaker 3: Is he doing the game?
- 37:49Speaker 7: Yes.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Steve Stone's doing the game? Oh, with the White Sox?
- 37:52Speaker 18: Yes.
- 37:53Speaker 13: I didn't know that.
- 37:54Speaker 4: And Jeff Blum. And Jeff Blum has never been on.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Network.
- 37:59Speaker 4: The national broadcast.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Well, this isn't a national broadcast. It's Peacock. That doesn't count.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Yes, it does. Because he's.
- 38:06Speaker 3: No one has Peacock.
- 38:07Speaker 4: The Astros.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Do you have Peacock?
- 38:08Speaker 22: Yes.
- 38:09Speaker 3: How'd you get Peacock?
- 38:12Speaker 13: The Astros.
- 38:13Speaker 3: What's your bill every month? How much do you pay
- 38:15Speaker 3: to watch TV every month? $ 2, 000.
- 38:18Speaker 13: I know.
- 38:18Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 38:19Speaker 4: But I've picture to picture.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:22Speaker 4: Actually, I can watch four of them now.
- 38:24Speaker 3: I can do that. Well, they have a mix even.
- 38:27Speaker 4: No, I get to choose.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Oh, you get to choose.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Well, if I do the your tube, I could do it.
- 38:34Speaker 22: So, Blummer has never done... Okay, this is his first time.
- 38:43Speaker 22: And he played for the White Sox. He beat the
- 38:44Speaker 22: Astros and won a World Series for the White Sox.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Who did?
- 38:47Speaker 4: Jeff Blum.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't realize that.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Yes, he hit the game-winning home run.
- 38:52Speaker 7: Really?
- 38:52Speaker 12: Yes.
- 38:53Speaker 3: I'd forgotten that.
- 38:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 38:55Speaker 1: But.
- 38:57Speaker 22: You've got to stand up when the Chicago White Sox
- 39:01Speaker 22: guy says something that is completely outrageous about the Astros team,
- 39:06Speaker 22: which he knows nothing about.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Well, he said Paredes couldn't play third base.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Blum said that?
- 39:12Speaker 2: No.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Stone said that yesterday.
- 39:14Speaker 7: Oh, Stone.
- 39:14Speaker 4: That he's a below average third baseman.
- 39:18Speaker 3: I'm a big Steve Stone fan.
- 39:20Speaker 4: I know you are.
- 39:20Speaker 3: I grew up watching him.
- 39:22Speaker 24: I know you are.
- 39:22Speaker 3: But he's pretty old.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Yes, he is.
- 39:25Speaker 13: Right?
- 39:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 39:26Speaker 3: He's got to be older than me.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Which doesn't, by the way, that doesn't mean he's not
- 39:34Speaker 1: eligible to call a game because here I am still talking.
- 39:41Speaker 1: You think I know more than Steve Stone about Chicago
- 39:43Speaker 1: White Sox?
- 39:44Speaker 4: You know more about the Astros than Steve Stone does.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Well, I probably do.
- 39:49Speaker 4: Blum should talk about the Astros.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Don't pitch to him.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Why not?
- 39:57Speaker 3: I'm telling you, do not pitch to him.
- 40:00Speaker 4: You're behind.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Don't pitch to him.
- 40:02Speaker 4: You're behind.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Don't pitch to him.
- 40:05Speaker 4: You're behind.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Oh, you mean on the TV?
- 40:07Speaker 25: Yes.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Okay, wait a minute. Then I've got to catch up.
- 40:11Speaker 3: But I'm just saying, don't pitch to him.
- 40:15Speaker 25: Really?
- 40:15Speaker 3: Well, he struck out.
- 40:17Speaker 4: I don't care.
- 40:18Speaker 3: I wouldn't pitch to him.
- 40:20Speaker 4: But I just, you know.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Would you pitch to him?
- 40:23Speaker 6: No.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Why do people keep pitching to him?
- 40:27Speaker 1: They did it yesterday in a 4-1 game with a
- 40:29Speaker 1: runner on third.
- 40:31Speaker 11: Yes.
- 40:31Speaker 13: I'm going, walk him.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Oh, well, you can't, you know, you can't bring up
- 40:36Speaker 3: the time.
- 40:36Speaker 13: That's BS.
- 40:38Speaker 3: That kind of thinking will get you beat.
- 40:41Speaker 26: Yep.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Except it's not against getting the Astros beat right now.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Well, I get that. I do. But you don't let
- 40:48Speaker 3: your best player beat you in any sport.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Unless quarterback. Quarterback is the only sport where that guy actually.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Well, you can't really control that, right?
- 40:59Speaker 4: And Michael Jordan.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Okay. There's a couple of exceptions. But there's not many.
- 41:06Speaker 4: But baseball has been, don't let that guy beat you.
- 41:09Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Well, so if a team has a good quarterback but
- 41:15Speaker 1: a great running back, you're not going to let that
- 41:17Speaker 1: running back beat you, right?
- 41:19Speaker 3: Like Ole Miss did last week with Baugh.
- 41:24Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 41:24Speaker 1: I mean, they still haven't stopped Jaden Baugh. It's like
- 41:27Speaker 1: you might want to find him and tackle him.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Oh, because they have a great quarterback?
- 41:31Speaker 3: If you can.
- 41:32Speaker 4: Florida has a great quarterback.
- 41:33Speaker 3: No, no, they don't. That's my point.
- 41:36Speaker 4: You have to attempt to not let the best player
- 41:38Speaker 4: win the game.
- 41:39Speaker 12: Always.
- 41:39Speaker 7: Always. In any sport.
- 41:41Speaker 22: Now, your head coach can be stupid.
- 41:45Speaker 3: That's true.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Okay. Ryan Day.
- 41:48Speaker 22: And not throw the ball ten times in the second
- 41:50Speaker 22: half to the best player in college football.
- 41:54Speaker 13: Okay.
- 41:55Speaker 3: I'm not going to argue with that.
- 41:56Speaker 4: I know you're not.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Get the ball. So if you're on the other side
- 42:01Speaker 3: of it.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Now, baseball, you can only bring the guy up when
- 42:06Speaker 1: it's his turn, right?
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:08Speaker 1: But in football and basketball, you can call people's numbers.
- 42:13Speaker 1: And you can do the same thing in hockey. You
- 42:15Speaker 1: can double shift guys, right, if it's important enough.
- 42:18Speaker 5: Yes, it is.
- 42:18Speaker 3: I mean, you don't put them on the ice.
- 42:20Speaker 21: Yes.
- 42:20Speaker 1: And you're not going to let Wayne Gretzky beat you. Now,
- 42:23Speaker 1: he's going to, like Michael Jordan is going to.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean you don't make an effort. That
- 42:29Speaker 1: doesn't mean you don't put two guys on him. That
- 42:31Speaker 1: doesn't mean your team... He doesn't have a target on
- 42:35Speaker 1: his back because you know he'll beat you.
- 42:37Speaker 22: And the great teams are like, you can't just say, oh.
- 42:40Speaker 22: The Cowboys had three, so how do you?
- 42:42Speaker 3: They had the triplets.
- 42:43Speaker 7: Right.
- 42:44Speaker 3: When you got the triplets, I would argue the same
- 42:46Speaker 3: thing in basketball, right?
- 42:47Speaker 7: Yes.
- 42:48Speaker 1: You can win with two great players, but if you
- 42:50Speaker 1: have three, it's almost impossible for you to beat them, right?
- 42:55Speaker 1: It's just, it's not going to happen. So don't pitch
- 42:59Speaker 1: to Jordan Alvarez, is all I'm saying. That's a long
- 43:02Speaker 1: way around, but quit pitching to Yordan Alvarez.
- 43:05Speaker 7: Throw it.
- 43:06Speaker 4: He's slumping. Go ahead and pitch to him.
- 43:08Speaker 21: No.
- 43:09Speaker 4: Yeah, he's terrible.
- 43:10Speaker 3: No, exactly.
- 43:12Speaker 7: Hey, he can't beat us.
- 43:13Speaker 3: He's 0 for his last 7.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Well, then he wasn't 0 for his last 7.
- 43:17Speaker 13: Okay, exactly.
- 43:19Speaker 3: All right, we're going to take a break. We're going
- 43:21Speaker 3: to come back.
- 43:22Speaker 1: We have the Oilers report brought to you by Oscar

- 44:01Speaker 26: The Houston Texans are prepping for the Lone Star Battle
- 44:03Speaker 26: as they host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. While the
- 44:06Speaker 26: Texans obviously hoped for a better start, Dallas is in
- 44:08Speaker 26: a similar spot as new additions to the Cowboys' defense
- 44:11Speaker 26: have not met preseason expectations, leading them to a 1-2 record.
- 44:15Speaker 26: Here's Texans head coach D'Amico Ryans with Texans Radio discussing
- 44:19Speaker 26: the rivalry with Dallas and the urgency for the first
- 44:21Speaker 26: win this year.
- 44:22Speaker 7: This is an important one for us, right?
- 44:23Speaker 24: For all the Houstonians, all the true Texans fans, this
- 44:27Speaker 24: is an important one for us. We know This was
- 44:29Speaker 24: the first win, right, for our organization, open it up
- 44:32Speaker 24: versus the Cowboys. So this will be a special one.
- 44:35Speaker 24: And I know it's even special for a lot of
- 44:37Speaker 24: us because there's a lot of Cowboy fans.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Around town as well.
- 44:41Speaker 3: They live among us.
- 44:41Speaker 7: They are here.
- 44:44Speaker 13: We've got to make sure we represent.
- 44:45Speaker 26: And Coach was correct on that fun fact. The first
- 44:47Speaker 26: ever win for the Texans as an expansion team in
- 44:50Speaker 26: 2002 was over the Dallas Cowboys that scored 19-10. Kickoff
- 44:53Speaker 26: between the Texans and Cowboys is set for noon Sunday
- 44:56Speaker 26: with coverage on Fox. With your Houston Texans report, I'm

- 47:25Speaker 10: The red-headed stranger from Blue Rock, Montana, rode into town
- 47:32Speaker 10: one day.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I probably shouldn't say this, but you could go on
- 47:35Speaker 1: the interweb and get a video of me singing this song.
- 47:40Speaker 1: You're going to have to hunt for it, but I'm
- 47:43Speaker 1: just saying.
- 47:45Speaker 4: I've got a chat bot. I'll just put the bot on.
- 47:47Speaker 3: There you go.
- 47:48Speaker 23: Scott Clendenin is here with us. It's 4-1, White Sox
- 47:58Speaker 23: over Astros, and we're going.
- 48:02Speaker 3: To the top of the second inning.
- 48:05Speaker 1: And Dak Prescott just overthrew a receiver in the end
- 48:08Speaker 1: zone by command of the head coach, apparently. Okay.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Where do you want to start? We've done baseball.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Huh?
- 48:21Speaker 3: We're done with baseball.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Why are you done with baseball?
- 48:24Speaker 1: What else is there to talk about? My team's out.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Your team's about to be out.
- 48:29Speaker 22: What I read today, Evan Grant wrote a story in
- 48:32Speaker 22: the morning news that the Rangers would have about $ 15
- 48:37Speaker 22: million to.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Spend on their team. To spend on 15 players. Yeah,
- 48:42Speaker 1: on 15 players.
- 48:42Speaker 7: Right.
- 48:43Speaker 3: That's correct.
- 48:45Speaker 4: So... Where does that leave the Texas Rangers?
- 48:50Speaker 1: Where it's left them 10 out of the last 11
- 48:53Speaker 1: years with a losing record.
- 48:57Speaker 3: And no hope.
- 48:58Speaker 4: No hope.
- 48:59Speaker 7: No.
- 49:01Speaker 13: Why?
- 49:02Speaker 22: How did you go from ownership that would actually spend
- 49:05Speaker 22: money to where you are now?
- 49:06Speaker 3: He did it one time. And he was begged to
- 49:09Speaker 3: do it. Begged to do it.
- 49:11Speaker 1: And he listened to him.
- 49:16Speaker 3: And he did it. and he won a World Series.
- 49:20Speaker 1: And then the cable stuff went south, right? All of
- 49:25Speaker 1: that went south. So he didn't have as much income
- 49:29Speaker 1: coming in because of that.
- 49:31Speaker 3: It was uncertainty.
- 49:32Speaker 1: He is a hawk, I've been told, when it comes
- 49:35Speaker 1: to labor negotiations beginning December 1st.
- 49:38Speaker 4: Okay.
- 49:38Speaker 1: So he's not going to spend a penny during any
- 49:41Speaker 1: of that, which may last into who knows when, right?
- 49:45Speaker 4: I don't think they're playing baseball next year.
- 49:46Speaker 3: They might not.
- 49:47Speaker 1: They might not play baseball next year. Frankly, that would
- 49:50Speaker 1: be the best thing for the Texas Rangers. Let's not
- 49:54Speaker 1: play next year.
- 49:58Speaker 4: But what happens to these contracts?
- 50:00Speaker 25: I don't know.
- 50:01Speaker 4: I just think you would have an older Seager, an older.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Yeah, a year older and not having played a year.
- 50:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and DeGrom? Would that be good that he was
- 50:11Speaker 4: a year older?
- 50:12Speaker 3: What, 65 million or something like that too? No, it
- 50:16Speaker 3: would not be good.
- 50:18Speaker 1: But maybe people will have forgotten their years this year
- 50:22Speaker 1: when they go to try to trade them or get
- 50:25Speaker 1: something of.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Value for them.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Because right now, for those two players that they owe
- 50:31Speaker 1: the most money to in particular, their value couldn't be
- 50:34Speaker 1: much lower in our whole careers, basically, than it is
- 50:39Speaker 1: right now. So, like I said, maybe it'll work out
- 50:44Speaker 1: great if the Rangers don't have to play baseball next year.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Because I've got no hope. Remember when the Astros were rebuilding?
- 50:53Speaker 1: That's been a long time ago.
- 50:55Speaker 7: Yes.
- 50:55Speaker 3: 16, 17, 18 years ago.
- 50:57Speaker 12: Yes.
- 50:58Speaker 3: When you started the season, it goes, well, you know,
- 51:01Speaker 3: they've got no hope.
- 51:03Speaker 1: That's where I am as a Rangers fan right now.
- 51:06Speaker 3: Got no hope.
- 51:09Speaker 1: And by the way, I kind of like the general manager.
- 51:13Speaker 1: I know because they've lost since the World Series. They
- 51:20Speaker 1: cut $ 33 million from payroll.
- 51:23Speaker 3: He had to piece together a bullpen. It looked like it.
- 51:26Speaker 1: But I can't blame him for the quality of arms
- 51:34Speaker 1: that he brought in and the fact that if you
- 51:42Speaker 1: want to blame him, blame him on the contracts. But
- 51:46Speaker 1: they don't have a World Series without those contracts. I
- 51:48Speaker 1: would argue that.
- 51:49Speaker 7: True.
- 51:50Speaker 1: And I'm fine with that, with getting the World Series.
- 51:54Speaker 1: So I'm not one of those get-rid-of-Chris-Young guys because he's
- 51:59Speaker 1: completely hamstrung.
- 52:00Speaker 3: I think he's a good baseball guy.
- 52:02Speaker 4: Do you think somebody else would?
- 52:03Speaker 3: Somebody would take him.
- 52:04Speaker 13: In a heartbeat?
- 52:06Speaker 3: Yeah, in a heartbeat. I believe so.
- 52:08Speaker 7: I do.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Over Dana Brown?
- 52:10Speaker 21: Probably.
- 52:12Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 52:15Speaker 3: What do you think? What are the Astros going to do?
- 52:17Speaker 3: They're going to have a new— As the GM?
- 52:21Speaker 4: As the GM.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Not Bagwell?
- 52:27Speaker 26: No.
- 52:27Speaker 4: It's Bagwell's choice.
- 52:30Speaker 3: Whether he takes the job or not?
- 52:32Speaker 4: No. Bagwell wants Ausmus to be the GM. Oh, he does?
- 52:36Speaker 4: He was on the short list last time.
- 52:39Speaker 3: What do you think about that? Where's Ausmus now?
- 52:43Speaker 4: He's bench coach for the Yankees.
- 52:44Speaker 3: Okay. So he's going to go from that to a
- 52:48Speaker 3: general manager?
- 52:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 52:49Speaker 22: I mean, he was somebody's baseball operations before he went
- 52:53Speaker 22: back to the Yankees.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Catchers usually make good front office people, right? Yes.
- 52:59Speaker 4: Well, I mean.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I mean, so you're okay with hiring Brad Ausmus as
- 53:03Speaker 1: of right now?
- 53:04Speaker 4: As of right now, I am.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:06Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think that it could be.
- 53:13Speaker 22: I think if you have somebody that Bagwell likes, that
- 53:15Speaker 22: means it's somebody that Jeff Crane likes because– Jim Crane, yeah.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Jim Crane.
- 53:19Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Because he's going to do whatever.
- 53:21Speaker 3: What Bagwell tells him to do.
- 53:23Speaker 4: Whatever Bagwell tells him to do.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Do you think that's actually the case? I know that's
- 53:26Speaker 1: the media story right now. Do you think that's what's happening?
- 53:29Speaker 4: I think some part of that is pretty accurate.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:37Speaker 4: And then– But Bagwell's also smart enough to not put
- 53:40Speaker 4: his name on the door either.
- 53:41Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. What about manager?
- 53:47Speaker 1: First of all, what kind of job do you think
- 53:49Speaker 1: Espada has done since he took over?
- 53:52Speaker 22: Considering what he's had to go through, I'm going to
- 53:54Speaker 22: be realistic.
- 53:57Speaker 1: You're kind of like I am about Chris Young, right?
- 53:59Speaker 18: Yes.
- 54:01Speaker 22: I mean, last year the Astros were in first place
- 54:05Speaker 22: in September, and Jordan Alvarez sprained his ankle and ended
- 54:10Speaker 22: up only playing 48 games when he was, again, in
- 54:14Speaker 22: the middle of everything the Astros did to get back
- 54:17Speaker 22: into first place after a horrendous start.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:20Speaker 4: When he wasn't playing. And, you know, this year, I.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Think that— The other axiom in sports is your best
- 54:30Speaker 1: player— has to be your best player during this time
- 54:33Speaker 1: of year.
- 54:33Speaker 4: He has to play.
- 54:34Speaker 13: Right.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Well, yeah, but that's my point.
- 54:38Speaker 22: Even a bad year by Seager, the fact that when
- 54:40Speaker 22: Seager is in the lineup, the Rangers are better.
- 54:43Speaker 3: Yeah, they were better down the stretch.
- 54:44Speaker 4: Better down the stretch because Seager was playing.
- 54:47Speaker 3: Correct.
- 54:47Speaker 22: The Astros couldn't, of all the people they couldn't lose
- 54:50Speaker 22: last year, he was primary guy.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:53Speaker 22: The interesting thing this year is Espada had to deal
- 54:58Speaker 22: with the beginning of the year where Hunter Brown gets hurt.
- 55:01Speaker 4: And you don't have Josh Hader.
- 55:02Speaker 3: Yeah, they had a lot of injuries early.
- 55:05Speaker 4: Okay.
- 55:06Speaker 22: I think that it is bad for the Astros that Emai,
- 55:10Speaker 22: their big money free agent guy, wasn't really good. And
- 55:15Speaker 22: the general manager took him out of the starting lineup
- 55:20Speaker 22: because either he or the owner.
- 55:25Speaker 22: If he pitched a certain number of innings, he guaranteed
- 55:29Speaker 22: another $ 2 million, not just this year, but for the
- 55:33Speaker 22: next two years that are on his contract.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 55:35Speaker 22: And they took him to where he wasn't pitching at all.
- 55:38Speaker 22: And I don't think that if, because he's, you know,
- 55:41Speaker 22: it's a player option. He's going to be back. He's
- 55:43Speaker 22: not going to turn down $ 20 million.
- 55:45Speaker 3: Or $ 22.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Whatever it ended up with.
- 55:49Speaker 22: For some of the bums that you ran out there,
- 55:51Speaker 22: I don't think it was a good position, but that's
- 55:55Speaker 22: not Joe Espada. That's the ones above them making decisions
- 56:01Speaker 22: about who plays and who doesn't play. That's the bad
- 56:03Speaker 22: thing about baseball now is you have a bunch of
