Transcript
- 0:18Hello, and welcome to gate Leapers, the pop culture game show that shines
- 0:22a spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your games master and sentient Plannert,
- 0:27who's actually your dad, Matt Watson. But of course we couldn't play these
- 0:32games without our team Captains, a pair of interstellar misfits who at first wanted
- 0:36to kill me, but now we ride around the galaxy together, well we
- 0:40ride around the state together. First, she's a cherry bomb who's got us
- 0:44hucked on her feeling, and in this game, she could go all the
- 0:48way. It's ultra Stevenson. Hi, that's me. I recognized some of
- 0:53those. Yeah, and come a little bit closer and surrender to mister blue
- 0:58Sky. It's Jason nown Hello, Hello, captains, are you ready for
- 1:02a series of games about Marvels, outcasts and rejects. But they're a popular
- 1:06brand now, so they're actually just the new establishment. Yes, that is
- 1:08exactly right, because that's what James Gunns likes to do, doesn't he.
- 1:11He likes to take the most obscure, random characters and then he makes them
- 1:15fucking popular. Yes, it's insane. I like did a little bit of
- 1:19research on them, so is that in the spirit of it. Yeah,
- 1:23I think I did a little bit of research and I was astonished, Like
- 1:27I thought they were invented for TV for movies. I'm gonna be real,
- 1:34it's terrible. The Guardians pre James Gunn aren't terrible, but they're like filled
- 1:38with character's name like phila Vell and Quasarn. I will I will not hear.
- 1:45I'm sorry to jump in before, but I will not hear a bad
- 1:49word about Quasar, about Quasar specifically. Okay, because phila Vel is also
- 1:53known as Quasar. Are you talking about the male Quasar the female Quaezar?
- 1:57I mean both also Flavelle like Fi Lavel is in a like lesbian marriage with
- 2:02a dragon. So oh that I'm not gonna I'm not gonna hear about it.
- 2:07Isn't mean dragon yet. Oh shit, Look, comic book fans connecting
- 2:10already. This is fantastic. Oh my god, Well, Aden, Aden's
- 2:14gonna hate me after my views segment. I'm gonna go back to my my
- 2:17quiet spot. Now. That was amazing. Good interjection. Obviously, Jason.
- 2:24You're a comic book guys, so this is going to be one of
- 2:27those episodes for you, isn't it Yeah. Yeah, and Ultra Itden came
- 2:30out of with some hot knowledge. Yeahintimidated definitely, definitely, And Ultra You've
- 2:35done your research, but ultimately not a comics person. I'm gonna be honest,
- 2:38I thought this is going to be the comics one. I'm gonna watch
- 2:40a timeline like so that I know what's just a general overview. I am
- 2:46as confused as I am with any other comics narrative. These people remember,
- 2:52remember them? I slightly mentioned them five minutes ago in the video. No
- 2:55I don't, I don't. I'm gonna try my best. It is one
- 3:00of my favorite comics films, like Groupings. Yeah, so, so I'm
- 3:06sure I have some knowledge stored in the recesses of my mind. Definitely,
- 3:10definitely. But either way, to play these games about Guardians of the Galaxy,
- 3:15you'll each need to pair up with a raccoon or a tree or that
- 3:17guy who does the Batista bomb. Jason. Who is your teammates today?
- 3:23Well, the Guardians are all about found family, so I've decided to do
- 3:25the complete opposite and bring my family family. It's my cousin, Chuck Tran.
- 3:30Hello, Chuck, Welcome to the podcast. Welcome back to be here.
- 3:35It's nice to see you. It's nice to see you. How are
- 3:37you doing. I'm doing great. How are you guys? We're doing good.
- 3:39Thank you so much. So polite. You've got such a polite family,
- 3:44Jason, Why aren't you this polite? So Chuck? I guess important
- 3:50thing up top? Are you a fan of Guardians of the Galaxy? I
- 3:53would say I am. I did enjoy the two movies, although I am
- 3:55not a comic greater. I am mostly basically my knowledge of what seen at
- 4:00the screen. Nice. Yeah, I think that'll do for most of the
- 4:03games. And if not, you've got a big old nerd of a cousin
- 4:06to help you. Yeah, good stuff. And Audra who is joining you.
- 4:12They're a writer, an actor and also part of my actual family by
- 4:16law. It's Aidan Watson. Hello, Aiden, welcome podcast. It's really
- 4:23good to be here. I found I've I've realized that you have done a
- 4:27video segment like an element to your your Patreon Now, yes, so if
- 4:31you just if you just give me one second, Um, I'm just gonna
- 4:39this one is just for the Patreons. So this is great, you gotta
- 4:44this would be really good. If I wasn't like stuck in the jacket there.
- 4:49No, the audio smooth as anything, very fancy. Thank you.
- 4:55I'm ready to leap some gates. Yes please, yes, please. That's
- 5:00a I mean, that's a great mug as well. We're talking about the
- 5:02luck and I probably shouldn't keep talking about visual content on an audio meeting.
- 5:05That's a lovely It just encourages people to join our Patreon. Yes, so,
- 5:13Eyton, I mean games master mode, not sibling modes. So we're
- 5:15going to keep this very formal. Are you a fan of Guardians of the
- 5:19Galaxy. I am a huge fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I
- 5:25was I think nineteen when the film came out, Um, and like just
- 5:30starting my first year at university. So I was already insufferable, and then
- 5:35this film came out and I just made it like my entire personality for a
- 5:39good six months. Yeah, you became a raccoon. I became. I
- 5:46had the surgery, you know, I went through the whole thing. Um,
- 5:48and then yeah, I've like kept up with the films. I actually
- 5:53I got to see an early screening of the third one by like a few
- 5:58hours and see the third film. Oh have we both seen the third film.
- 6:01Yeah, we're the only ones on each good balancing here. We've got
- 6:06like a big old nerd and then a casual fan on each team. It's
- 6:11it's quite nice. I'm excited. This one's oh my god. Yeah,
- 6:15I'm getting incompetitive. Okay, I should probably small copy then. Yeah,
- 6:20okay, teams, you've all been trafficked as infants by a space pirate,
- 6:25but don't worry. More information will result in you loving him like a father,
- 6:28so as you make the long trip into hyperspace, I'd like each pair
- 6:31to come up with a Guardians themed team name, please, So let's start
- 6:35with Jason and Chuckle. A team work Chuck. I texted you that I'm
- 6:39bad at these, so here are my bad ones. I'm really hoping you
- 6:43got some good ones because I put down the needle drops. I think the
- 6:46Guardians movies were the first time I noticed a needle drop in a movie.
- 6:49They're pretty big in those films. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I have
- 6:54space daddy issues. We're very we're very Asian. We do a lot a
- 7:01lot of approving grunts in our household. We do that a lot. Uh,
- 7:05and then approving grunts are great for an ulty medium, so it works.
- 7:10Yeah, and then I've done listening. I've got Earth animals in space
- 7:14because the Guardians have a lot of those and I quite enjoy them. Yeah,
- 7:16those are those are kind of like the long time I had I was
- 7:18thinking like space animals, because there's just raccoon in space for the space animals.
- 7:23I just love that. I love that as a duo name for us.
- 7:25I think we should call each other that space space animals. Yeah,
- 7:29just in real life. Yeah, every time we talk to your sister,
- 7:30we've referred to ourselves as the space animals. One. I'm okay with that.
- 7:35Yeah, the fairy shame that that was a longer con of mine,
- 7:43but sure. The only other one I have is like a tree huggers,
- 7:46but like group huggers, ugad it's good. I think it sounds like it
- 7:54sounds like a group hug as well, so it's got like a Yeah.
- 8:00So I like both of yours. Honestly, you choose because they're yours.
- 8:03M hmm. I think we're gonna go on the basis of family. I
- 8:07think we're gonna go through sash group huggers yea, the grout huggers. Yeah,
- 8:11it's lovely stuff. Okay, so we've got the Grout Huggers. Fantastic
- 8:15team named Charlie, thank you very much. Um, let's see who the
- 8:18grout Huggers will be facing, Audre Aiden. What do you got? I
- 8:20have very little? Just um. The phrase, one of the phrases that
- 8:28I liked from it was we're not heroes, We're just jackasses standing in a
- 8:31circle. So jackasses in a circle. Oh nice, would be literally the
- 8:37only thing that I came up with. So, I, having having seen
- 8:41the third film, I have had space hogs in the meantime like stuff in
- 8:48my head because it's in like all the trailers and features in the film.
- 8:50Yeah, and I just I just I don't know if we can do it,
- 8:54but can we just be space hogs? I would love absolutely space.
- 8:58Yeah, it's like sematic as well because it's in space. So yeah,
- 9:01lots of animals in space is space? Yeah? Yeah, I will in
- 9:05the quick fire round, I will be buzzing in um by doing snorting.
- 9:13Yeah, that's just adding a confusing layer to an already confusing round. Lovely
- 9:18stuff. So yeah, would you like the space hogs or space hogs?
- 9:22Ordre? What what do you think? I'm debating space hogs parentheses meantime.
- 9:28Okay, yeah, we'll just go none. We'll just go You took like
- 9:33Aiden's concern about copyright and just went, yeah, let's definitely just remove all
- 9:39ambigu um, just space hawks, just space songs. Okay, space hogs.
- 9:46It is all right, So we have the groot Huggers versus space Hawks.
- 9:52Very thematic. You just put that out there. Everyone knows we're talking
- 9:56about Guardians more exactly exactly maybe in the meantime next line in that song.
- 10:05And I've not gotten to see Guardians three on an advanced screening, like a
- 10:07couple of ye. So all right, and if you're listening to this and
- 10:11thinking, well, they all seem like moderately charming people. But I've not
- 10:15watched a Marvel property since Iron Man two sucked ass. Don't worry his audra
- 10:20with a little segment we like to call passing knowledge. Guardians of the Galaxy
- 10:26are a group of space faring superheroes in the Marvel universe. The group was
- 10:31initially introduced by Marvel Superheroes in January nineteen sixty nine, a full five months
- 10:37before the moon landing coincidence. I think, yeah, probably space is really
- 10:43popular at the time. It was in a lot of media. We were
- 10:46going into the sky. It was the time. It was the time.
- 10:48There's another name. You might know me by star Lord Who. Even though
- 10:54the Guardians in name have been around since then, most of us commoners think
- 10:58of the group introduced in mid two thousands and brought to screen by James Gunn
- 11:03in twenty fourteen, including star Lord the Leader played by Chris Pratt, Rocket
- 11:07the Raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper, Drax the Destroyer played by Dave Battista,
- 11:13and Groot the Grout voiced by Vin Diesel in the one role in which being
- 11:18called Wooden might actually be a compliment for him. Also, Zoe's aldana Is
- 11:24plays Gomorrah. It's a very relevant character, but she's a woman, so
- 11:28I'm not really going to give her a place of prominence in order to honor
- 11:31comics and sci fi. I'm going to die surrounded by the biggest idiots in
- 11:39the Calaxy. The series, both in comics and on screen, focuses on
- 11:43found family. Even if the one you're born into isn't always there for you.
- 11:48You can find like minded people who care about you and who will support
- 11:52you. Sometimes those people are the last of an alien race or a galactic
- 11:56space orphan seeking truth in the stars, and if really lucky, it'll be
- 12:01a raccoon with a big gun. Now, I'm standing you a happy we're
- 12:05all standing up now, bunch of jackasses standing in a circle. With much
- 12:11of culture experiencing superhero fatigue when it comes to all of these superhero groups,
- 12:16James Gunn's adaptation of the Guardians remains popular, with action quips and a hell
- 12:22of a lot of heart. The third film provides everything we wanted from the
- 12:26culmination of a superhero saga. It's no surprise Guardians of the Galaxy has us
- 12:30I've done a feeling nice nice. I like the commitment to the bad back
- 12:37a little bit. Yeah, maybe not enough. I don't I don't know.
- 12:41Thank you so much for that oldrad you did you just assume that that's
- 12:45what the response had been to the third one? Or is that what the
- 12:48review's genuinely art? Because I've I've not seen yet. Is that everyone happy
- 12:52with the third suppose I I should ask Jason and Aden to be honest.
- 12:54I texted Charlie like as soon as I finished the movie, and I was
- 12:58like, best Marvel movie I've ever, Like, it's it's the best one,
- 13:01the best one ever. Yeah, it's pretty good. I like,
- 13:05I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a Morbil film as much as as
- 13:09that one. Nice. Nice, Yeah. I looked on a lot of
- 13:11like sub credits and other places to see general comments, what's up, voted,
- 13:16what's not, and people saying like this is what I felt when I
- 13:20first started watching comic book films, or like this is what I wanted from
- 13:26end game, like certain amounts of emphasis and not etc. So yeah,
- 13:33blank, yeah, But that was the general consensus that I found, both
- 13:37from the fact that it had a much higher rating than the second film audience
- 13:43score wise, um, and just general good vibes, general good vibes.
- 13:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, good good stuff, good stuff. Well,
- 13:50I hope that's called everyone up on Guardians of the Galaxy, and if not,
- 13:54Jason's going to make a joke around the fifty seven minute mark. That's
- 13:56what's sticking around. It's gonna be great. Hold me to that, yeah
- 14:03I will. Just before we get to today's games, I've asked each player
- 14:07to bring in a muse that's something that inspires them or something they love from
- 14:11this particular fandom. Guardians of the Galaxy is inspiring to me because it shows
- 14:16you can take any old comic book character attached the hero's journey narrative arc and
- 14:22turn them into a billion dollar franchise. I'm still hoping to sell my ip
- 14:26for a billion toilet man. He even experiences a dark night of the Bowl
- 14:31of the Bowl a bit a narrative humor there. Yeah, Jason will start
- 14:37with you. What's inspiring you from the world of Guardians. Yeah, what's
- 14:41inspiring me is my underestimation of James Gunn at every turn, And I really,
- 14:46I really need to quit that because when Guardians first came out, I
- 14:50was in high school and it was like at the peak of like people getting
- 14:54interested in nerd culture, and like I was the one guy who like read
- 14:58comic books in my high school that people felt comfortable asking questions about combooks,
- 15:03and so they were like, what do you what is Guardians of the Galaxy?
- 15:05Who are these people? What do you know about them? And I
- 15:07was like, it's shit, It's like this this is Marvel's attempt at like
- 15:13because at that point in time, they weren't these misfits necessary They're all very
- 15:18serious characters, and when I tried to get into them, they were part
- 15:20of this big saga like type of story called Annihilation, and it was very
- 15:24hard to track even for someone who like I feel myself as verse, because
- 15:30there was just so many characters with so many backstories, and Annihilation didn't do
- 15:33a very good job of like letting newcomers come into that in my opinion.
- 15:39Well wait, well Waite frightens for abuttal on that. Yeah, And the
- 15:41same thing when the Suicide Squad was announced, verily, very shortly after it
- 15:48was announced or the trailer drop or something like that, they straight up went
- 15:50or making a Peacemaker series and I was like, the movie hasn't even come
- 15:54out yet. So I remember texting Chuck. I was like, this is
- 15:56fucking insane. What an asinine moved from there like perspective and it turned out
- 16:02really good. So I'd really need to stop underestimating James Gun because he comes
- 16:04out with the bangers every time. Yeah, yeah, I've got I've got
- 16:08to say, I think the James Gun stuff is the only superhero stuff I
- 16:11like. Yeah really, which means I probably don't like superhero stuff. I
- 16:15just like his brand of Blockbuster. Yeah. Probably, um, but yeah,
- 16:18I mean that's the good news. Are you gonna follow the advice or
- 16:21you're gonna piecemaker? Season two comes out, you're gonna be like this is
- 16:23shit. I know, I'm like the first season. Yeah, but it's
- 16:29gonna go downhill from here. Now. I'm really excited for Superman Legacy,
- 16:33especially his comments about like his dad passing away and how that story is gonna
- 16:36be about dad's Superman famously has two So it's gonna be a lot. Oh,
- 16:41yes, I feel in the fields and emotions, but that's dc we
- 16:45should we should stick with marm Yeah, and move on over to your teammates,
- 16:49Chuck, what's inspiring you from the Guardians? I will say that I
- 16:56think my news is going to be the evolution of group throughout the movies.
- 17:00I think you start off with like a super cool, super old, super
- 17:03tall group and everyone falls in love, and by the end you find baby
- 17:06group and it's like, wow, great next movie, Yeah, teenage group
- 17:10and you're like, man, what the heck is this? I mean,
- 17:14he makes like the handle the Stormbreaker. That's pretty cool. Yeah, and
- 17:17then I recently so I haven't watched the movie yet. But I watched a
- 17:19trailer and then you see like adult group. I guess he's a young adult.
- 17:22Yeah, swo is what they're calling. This guy looks like he's like
- 17:26a baby face, but he's just like a buff baby. It's just himbo
- 17:32group. You're gonna love this movie. There's a there's an evolution of group
- 17:37in it. Yeah. So I guess, like just the ability to change
- 17:40one character that looks over one characters, Yeah, definitely, definitely you get
- 17:45that because he's essentially the mascot of the of the Guardians franchise, but you
- 17:48don't get that same thing that you get with other franchises where the mascot stays
- 17:52exactly the same every time. Yeah, he evolves and changes over time and
- 17:56as a result, has a different personality in each film, which is pretty
- 17:59cool. So yeah, yeah, good good news. And we see like
- 18:02all the other characters grow in their personalities and stuff, but Grout's kind of
- 18:06good from the start, and so to be able to see like the physical
- 18:10changes the rest of them have, like an emotional change is just like I
- 18:19wasn't thinking that art about it. Yeah, yeah, I was totally think
- 18:25of that. Yeah, exactly, we knew it we knew that's what you
- 18:29were thinking. That's that's fantastic news. There's a pair of fantastic muses from
- 18:34the Group Huggers, which you know thematic. But let's move on over to
- 18:38the Space Hawks and let's start with Aiden. What's inspiring you from the Guardians.
- 18:44I wanted to just reply to Jason absolutely, absolutely, no. I
- 18:49I do think that he was right about Annihilation being like a little bit a
- 18:53little bit messy with introducing characters because it is like it's it's mainly about over
- 19:00and then you try and like give him this team of like weird like side
- 19:03characters that they're trying to revive. Um. But then they give it a
- 19:07second go and do Annihilation Conquest, which is just like where the Guardians really
- 19:11get started. Um, And like I think it's where they get their name.
- 19:15Like I think they get given the name Guardiance to the Galaxy in Annihilation
- 19:18Conquest. And that is basically like Marvel being like, oh, we fucked
- 19:23up introducing these guys. We're going to give it another girl. I'm a
- 19:26different problem to solves, and then we'll and then we'll do it again.
- 19:30Um. I also really like Group in Annihilation as well. Um to link
- 19:36your two muss or like your two points, because he starts off like the
- 19:40I Am grousing didn't really start until the film. Really. Um, he
- 19:45speaks like full coherent English, like almost Expearean, and it's like, yeah,
- 19:48he's like this towering like yes, massive guy. Yeah, and he's
- 19:53just like monologuing as he's like smashing deep Rocket has like an Australian in or
- 20:00British accent. It depends back then too that moment. I think therefore,
- 20:06I am grout you can kind of shoehorn like a Brooklyn accent into the like
- 20:11the wording of stuff. Maybe. Yeah, but my news is from volume
- 20:18six of Guardians of the Galaxy comics, which is the one so there's like
- 20:25a current one where the Cowboys for some reason, yeah, but it's it's
- 20:27the one before that where like Doom Doctor like Doctor Doom joins them for a
- 20:33little bit. But Peter quill In like the first issue maybe like the first
- 20:38few issues of it, gets like sent through a black hole and everyone thinks
- 20:42he's dead, but he's actually like on the other side of the black hole,
- 20:47still fighting the dudes that he puts through the black hole. Um,
- 20:51he's immortal for some reason. Now, sure, okay, time's weird in
- 20:55black holes, it's fine, and he like when he arrives there, he
- 20:59meets this like married couple who are like already fighting these people, and he's
- 21:03like, sure, I'll team up with you guys, And then he spends
- 21:06like nine hundred years with them, and like, I think there's two points
- 21:11where they're like, hey, you wanna you know, you want to make
- 21:15a thrifle and he's like, I'm I'm taken, but thank you, I
- 21:19mean, and on the sorry, I was just gonna say, like nine
- 21:23hundred years, you'd say yes. I bet you'd say yes, one hundred
- 21:26and fifty no matter how you felt about polygamy, you would join in.
- 21:30Yeah, I was just gonna say the same. But then on the third
- 21:34time he's like, I'm probably never seeing Gomorrah again. Why not? And
- 21:40then like the next panel is the three of them like naked in a hot
- 21:42tub. So, my my muses is Peter Quill's immortal polyamorous relationship. Great
- 21:51title for a muse, and a lovely journey to get there. That was
- 21:55a journey. Yes, what's going on? Bouy your reactions? You didn't
- 22:00know about it, so I I'm like, I'm vaguely aware of that era
- 22:04that Aiden is referring to, because also like Kitty Prye joins in and she
- 22:07hooks up with Peter Quill. Yes, it was, Yeah, it was
- 22:12all part of that era of comics post the movies where they were like,
- 22:15oh shit, like people like these guys, We've got to make comics about
- 22:18them, but also we gotta put the other popular character. So people read
- 22:22this comic as well, and so there was a lot going on, and
- 22:25it was probably the peak of the comics since like Annihilation if that's like your
- 22:29era of Guardians comics, So it was like a really interesting time to be
- 22:32reading those. I just didn't get to all of that. That was Insane
- 22:37volume six, which signals there will be more films after volume three. I'm
- 22:41sure it never ends. Okay, finally, Ultra, what is inspiring you
- 22:48from The Guardians? Dave Batista Wrestling? I have a recurring thing in my
- 22:55heart where I just love wrestler's turn to actors, specifically John Cena and Dave
- 23:00Batista. I know that the Rock did it first, and he's huge,
- 23:03and I get that he's not as good as either of them, and I
- 23:07think that Dave Batista's range is so fucking phenomenal. And I if I'm remembering
- 23:15correctly, the first Guardians film is the first one that kind of pushed him
- 23:21out of smaller roles. Yes, there's like interviews where he had filmed Guardians
- 23:26and then came back to WWE thinking I'm going to get a good response,
- 23:30like I've just filmed this um to come back, people are going to be
- 23:33like, yeah, he's in the next Marvel movie, we will cheer for
- 23:37him. Nope, nothing, Blue Tista, and then like saw it.
- 23:47He was Oh sad, but they saw the film and absolutely fell in love
- 23:51with his performance, as did I. He's been amazing and at least ten
- 23:56years ago when the first film came out. Now, we've had some better
- 24:00some better representations for neurodivergence, But when the first film came out, a
- 24:04lot of the artistic community like really saw themselves yeah in drags, and I
- 24:11fucking love that. And so, like I said, now we've had some
- 24:15better interpretations and better representation, but at the time it was fucking great.
- 24:22But in the time, Blue Alien, who'd never spent any time on Earth,
- 24:25was the best Hollywood had to offer for representing neurodivergence. They should put
- 24:30him in the Good Doctor. Yeah, just replace the Good Doctor with Dave.
- 24:36Yes, okay, but yeah I'd watch Yeah, definitely, So Dave
- 24:40Batista arguably my favorite wrestler turned actor until the next season A Peacemaker comes out.
- 24:45Yeah, and don't doubt him. Don't doubt James Gunn is gonna be
- 24:48good God another fantastic news to round out that little segment. Are feeling inspired?
- 24:56Are we ready to play some games? Oh? Yeah, yeah,
- 24:59okay, right, teams, grab your nearest misfit and let's escape this besieged
- 25:04planet as we jet off into round one. Round one is called Rogues Gallery.
- 25:15Where would heroes be without their villains? Who would Spider Men be without
- 25:18Docc Probably just a happy, well adjust a teenager. But that will be
- 25:23boring, so we need villains. In turn, I will give each team
- 25:27a lineup of three villains. Our teams must identify the villain that featured in
- 25:33the Guardians franchise at one point or another, so comics or films. They'll
- 25:37be hidden amongst villains from DC and My own Brain, which surprisingly isn't as
- 25:44problematic as DC is at the moment. Oh, and I'll give you a
- 25:48bonus point if you can describe the correct villain once you hear the answer.
- 25:52So, what their power is, what they do, what they look like,
- 25:56that sort of thing. I'll give you the bonus point. So we
- 25:59will begin the groom tug is. Here are your first three villains. Black
- 26:03Jack, Oh, here, Jack o Lantern, Phantom oh Black. Okay.
- 26:11I think Jack o' lantern is a real Marvel villain because I'm pretty sure
- 26:17Agian Venom like beat the shit out of him at one point. Do you
- 26:19remember that comic Charlie. No, I'm just to give like Halloween decorations right
- 26:23now, just starned that one where even stuck on that I think he is.
- 26:29I think he's like a hob cob hob goblin like type of guy.
- 26:33Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, And I think he's a real one.
- 26:34I don't think he's ever fought the Guardians, but I'm pretty sure he's
- 26:37a Marvel character, so maybe he did at one point. And I think
- 26:40that's that's all we have to do, right, is actually identified the the
- 26:44one that fought the Guardians at one point or so defaultly the Marvel villain because
- 26:48I don't know if fault the Marvel villain, you go with Jacko Lanson.
- 26:52Yeah, Chuck, do you trust me? Yeah, go for it.
- 26:53Okay, okay, it is not Jacko Lanson. Jacko Lanson is a DC
- 26:59villain now, he is he is he is he absolutely, he absolutely is
- 27:07a Marvel villain as well, but the but never fought the Guardians in any
- 27:11capacity. What do you say? What do you mean so Jackal Lanton is
- 27:14a Marvel villain but was a DC villain. First Marvel copied and then Jackal
- 27:18Lanton has never fought the Guardians, whereas black Jack Black Jackal Hair fights the
- 27:22Guardians all the time, all the time. He has four a Guardian he
- 27:29like like. Jason said that the show of him and Agent Venom was in
- 27:33the Guardians at one point. Yeah, okay, hell, it's a DC
- 27:38villain and one of your own making. Yes, Jackal Awards a Marvel villain,
- 27:42also a DC villain. No, but I hear no, I hear
- 27:47your point. I actually do think I'm going to give you a point,
- 27:48not on the basis of my very correct premise on what Aiden added to the
- 27:55conversation of yeah if if At one point, Agent Villa agent Venom was a
- 27:59guardian and then are you yes, Jack o' lantern did did fight the discovery
- 28:03that he's an alia? I mean, yeah, he didn't. He didn't
- 28:06fight like the guardians. He fight a guardian, a person who would be
- 28:10a It's a big enough historically, it's a big enough loophole that I'm willing
- 28:14to slide a point through it. Thank you, Adam. I'm gonna I'm
- 28:18gonna stop giving the other team, but for a bonus point, black JACKO
- 28:23hair, can you tell me about black JACKO hair? Black Jack, oh
- 28:27hair? I mean he's a he's a rabbit right like that's I was thinking
- 28:32like a gambit style. Oh okay, because okay, yeah, black Jack.
- 28:37So he's a he's a he's a he's a rabbit man with a gambling
- 28:40problem. He's a rabbit man with a gambling problem. Yeah. You know,
- 28:45I'm gonna give you a bonus point because it's the easy one at the
- 28:47start. Yeah, a rabbit man, a genetically engineered rabbit, a rival
- 28:52of rocket head of the Black Bunny Brigade, the Black Bunny. That's correct,
- 28:57but I'll I'll give you the bonus point that ebb Okay, next set
- 29:00of villains for the Space Hawks. Here it is Tamma the Watcher, Murder
- 29:07the Wizard, or On the Searcher. Oh, I recognize on the Searcher,
- 29:14but I do not know what from ah, I got nothing. What
- 29:19was the first one? Tamma the Watcher. Tamma the Watcher. There there
- 29:26are Watchers in the Marvel universe and they are like cosmic being, so it
- 29:30makes sense for the Guardians to come up against him. But I don't think
- 29:33that's one of them. I know Uatu is like is like the main one.
- 29:38Yeah, um, the Searcher guy sounds really familiar, but it might
- 29:42be like a DC part of my brain like activating, and that's actually a
- 29:47DC guy. No loa for Murder the Wizard. I have a lot of
- 29:52love for Murder the Wizard, and I hope to God he's real. I
- 29:56don't think he is, honestly, I just want to protect him from all
- 29:57this fame. I would be okay going with the last one because I don't
- 30:03know why, but it was just happened to be like that one. So
- 30:07maybe I came across it in a wiki mm deep dive. It might be
- 30:11he might be like a Herald of Galactus, like because he's had a like
- 30:15the because Silver Surfer was one of those guys and he's had a lot of
- 30:18like others. Yeah, and they do fight some of the Heralds in either
- 30:22Annihilation or Annihilation Conquest. Oh yeah, so I don't I mean, I'm
- 30:26gonna go with that one. I can't go with east On the Searcher.
- 30:30Yeah, it is east On the Searcher, that is that is the correct
- 30:33answer. Are you going to stick with your analysis of who that might be
- 30:37as the as the bonus point? Only because I don't want to just sit
- 30:42here and try and like spout like my Wikipedia knowledge of the Guardian. I
- 30:49acknowledge that this is a game show, so it does have to be fun
- 30:52to listen to. It hasn't hasn't stopped Jason on comic book episodes. I
- 30:57was want to say, I love it, I eat that up. Well,
- 31:00can absolutely do it here in the room. It just might not make
- 31:03the edit. Yeah, that's fine, that's fine. So are they locking
- 31:07that answer in? Yeah you see the Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I
- 31:11think so, like a Herald of Galactus before you reveal it. I was
- 31:15going to say, the more you talked, the more I've remembered that the
- 31:19celestials often have pronouns like that, Oh yeah, it's the judge or something
- 31:26like that. Oh you offering to help back. No, no, no,
- 31:27no, no, they locked it in. They locked it. Wow,
- 31:33I've locked him offered. Yeah, I've locked in a Herald of Galactus.
- 31:37But I think it might be a celestial. Yeah, yeah, it's
- 31:38gonna be no bonus point. S On the Searcher is a celestial. The
- 31:44origin of the Power Stone comes from s On the Searcher and is in Guardian
- 31:48the Galaxy one in like yeah, he's like when when the collectors like explaining,
- 31:53yes, well the stone is yeah, yeah, I will give you
- 31:56guys help if if Matt's a dick, because that's why. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:00that is actually Tamma the Watcher was fake, and Murder the Wizard is
- 32:06from DC who is a wizard who is possessed by Aquaman's toy Octopus toys.
- 32:13Yep, it's toy Octopus. Um. All right, that's a good question.
- 32:17Let's move back on over to the Groot Huggers. Here is your next
- 32:22lineup, Lobo Bastic, Lunatic or Solo might that's hard? I mean,
- 32:30Lobo Bastic is is that's too close to Lobo? Oh? Is it just
- 32:35Lobo and DC? Yeah, okay, Lobos DC. So that's way too
- 32:37close to Lobo. Like I know, Marvel and DC, copeach other all
- 32:40the time. That's like bold. Yeah, that's pretty on the nose.
- 32:44Yeah, so what is it? It's yeah, you've got Lunatic or solo
- 32:50might. That is all right, solo might sounds like a like a sixties
- 32:53comic book name or something. So it sounds like a bug or a Pokemon.
- 32:59That was pokemon. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Lunatic is so vague.
- 33:05But I could also see Matt going like, yeah, that's that's vague
- 33:07enough that that is definitely a trick question, you know what I mean.
- 33:10That's that is how I approach writing these. I'm gonna give if it's fifty
- 33:15fifty, I'm gonna give it to you. Man, you make me oh
- 33:17man, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go with Lunatic.
- 33:24All right, you're going with Lunatic as the villain that fought the Guardians.
- 33:28That is correct. I think it's the correct answers. And for a
- 33:31bonus point, can you describe anything about Lunatic even if you're just taking stabs
- 33:36in the dark. It's just crazy loco. Yeah, yeah, that's another
- 33:43synonym. He's a maniac show. I'll think it like a split personality man
- 33:49like Phases of the Moon, split personality, split personality. Pretty pretty decent.
- 33:52I guess there is a little bit down there, but I haven't heard
- 33:55any of the keywords. So bonus point, shape shifter, an ancient killed
- 34:00killed, Drax at one point killed. Oh he's I thought Banos was the
- 34:04one that maybe dracks his dad multiple times. He's done. Yeah. I
- 34:07think comic book characters die all the time. Yeah, for sure. So
- 34:09back on over to the Space Hawks. Here we go. Chronograph Man,
- 34:15calendar Man, Oh, topographical Man, you're all very bad. Calendar Man
- 34:23is a real DC villain. So it is terrible, but in like a
- 34:29fun way. Yeah. Yeah, he's part of that Harley Quinn joke that
- 34:31you guys like so much, the one who, yes, I can't remember
- 34:35his son's on birth. Yeah, and it's a good gag, to be
- 34:38fair, it's pretty good. Um, So you've got chronograph Man and topographical
- 34:43Man. Ronograph like sounds more yeah, like like it would be a guy.
- 34:51Yeah, Like Rono is Chrono time yeah, yeah, I think scientist.
- 35:00But I do think that chrono is time, so like chronograph would be
- 35:04like time measurer, and Marvel has the like time cops. Yeah, there
- 35:09are also a lot of lumpy, bumpy guys in in the Marvel universe.
- 35:13A topographical also makes sense. I'll give the logic. I suppose. I'm
- 35:20I'm happy to go with your first answer. Okay, let's go with them
- 35:22chronograph. You're going with chronograph, men, it's not it's topographical. It's
- 35:30the lumps and bumps, the lumps and bumps. But can for a bonus
- 35:34point, can you say more than lumps and bumps about is he like like
- 35:40a sentient like space rock or something like, So he's got he's got topography
- 35:46to him, like a living asteroid. I'll give you that. That's that's
- 35:50pretty it'd be a massive asteroid. But yeah, a living it's similar to
- 35:53ego, but instead of a planet, it's like lots of mountains in space.
- 35:57Wow, I was just I was just a guess. Yeah, I'll
- 36:01take it. Jesus, good stuff one for the space hogs there, yeah,
- 36:07holds a star in each fist. Us. There's a pretty cool cover
- 36:12art that I saw of topographical man. Stupid name good. I was gonna
- 36:15say, like having such like a majestic like yes, or inspiring creature.
- 36:21It's like, hey, I'm topographical man. Check out my lumps and that
- 36:29size. He must have so many. This is one lump I can't get
- 36:35into the back. Can you just check it up? Really concerned, I'm
- 36:38at that age now he's holding stars. That's like a big skin cancer risk.
- 36:47Oh god, good stuff. Okay, back on over to the Great
- 36:52Huggers. Here is your next lineup. Bing Bang Bong's fin fang Foom.
- 36:59Okay, we want a Mattapaya. It's you know this right, Chuck?
- 37:04Yeahin Bo fin fang Foom. Yeah yeah, h bing Bang Bong, I
- 37:07swear was one of the villains that we did for the Spider Man episode that
- 37:12you were on. Chuck, really like, there's something about my memory that's
- 37:15kicking back to that. But yeah, it's Fin Fang Foom. He's a
- 37:19he was long thought to be a dragon. Oh yeah, sorry, this
- 37:22is part of the question. I forgot got it, you gott I just
- 37:24did gun. He was thought to be a dragon, but he's actually part
- 37:29of like an ancient alien race that like went to colonize Earth, and then
- 37:32they all died out, and so their fossils and their image became the basis
- 37:37of what human beings believed dragons to be. A wait, dinosaurs dragons?
- 37:43Dragons? Yeah, dragons, but he looks really ugly as a dragon,
- 37:45Like, he looks nothing like an actual you've got the bones, point,
- 37:49you've got you scold two points a team. Yeah, but I got to
- 37:51ask if we found dragon bones as humans, if we done that? Yeah.
- 37:55Yeah, there's and from the Bronx that is literally like a living piece
- 38:02of orange cheeto. Yeah, that's true. Suspension of disbelief is heavy.
- 38:12Okay, back on over to Space Hawks. Here is your next lineup?
- 38:15In between a Equinox or Balencio Balencio, I want to know more about Valencio.
- 38:22I hope sounds fascinating. Forget the quiz um. I like, I
- 38:36think in between A there's a there's a there's like a character called the Beyonder,
- 38:40So it would make sense that there is also an in between A.
- 38:45It's like someone who's on the way to the sinuates the existence of an in
- 38:52between. But then also it just makes me think of the British TVC queenas
- 39:00Simon Byrd. I was just thinking, yeah, books suspiciously, and so
- 39:04that is probably where like if Matt was going to make one up, that's
- 39:07probably where that came from. But also if Matt I'm trying to like Mega
- 39:12one from us, Yeah, and he found a character called the in Between
- 39:15Her, he'd be like, Hey, they they're probably gonna think of the
- 39:17TV show and they're going to think that I'm joking with them. Yeah,
- 39:21you've assumed a lot about my thought process, but it's not all wrong,
- 39:29Like is it Balencio? It was you don't remember the name of your love?
- 39:36Yeah, and then what equinox is the other one? Equinox is the
- 39:38other one? Um, watch it be equinox, but I think it's the
- 39:45first or the last one. I think it's in between her or Balencio.
- 39:50Yeah, equinox, Like there is that like a sun thing? Yeah,
- 39:52like a yeah, celestial body type thing. It's either it's highest or lowest.
- 39:58I don't remember. There are and there are a lot of like star
- 40:01based powers in in the Marvel universe as well, though, So I'm I'm
- 40:07gonna say the in between her, Yeah, in between her? Yeah,
- 40:13you were incorrect about my thought process. But you were right about the question.
- 40:21I just wanted to make that as confusing as rowing ourselves off. I
- 40:25mean, and would you like to guess anything about in between her? As
- 40:30um? I think that the is it? Is it the in between or
- 40:35just in between? Just in between her, but maybe in SOMEX is referred
- 40:38to as the in between. Yeah. I think that, Like they're just
- 40:43a regular looking person kind of yeah, but also like they wear like very
- 40:47fancy stuff. So like the Collector and the grand Master are like they're like
- 40:52ancient beings, but they just look like regular fancy people. Yeah. And
- 40:58I think I think in between or whoever that is, might belong to like
- 41:00this little subset. Okay, okay. I would like to think because the
- 41:05Collector collects the what is it the Grandmaster, he's like the Grandmaster. He
- 41:10likes to he likes to do the battles. If the in between er is
- 41:14one of those people, I like to think that he's just constantly unemployed and
- 41:16people keep asking it's job status. I'm just in between stuff right now,
- 41:22sick. I know that's they're super power, not quite enough. I like
- 41:30the idea of like being between something that does make sense than the thing.
- 41:32But there's the there are the entities Order and Chaos within the Marvel universe.
- 41:37It's like Lord Order and some some mister Chaos, I think, and the
- 41:42in between. It was created by both of them to be the balance of
- 41:45both of their powers, but ultimately went rogue. M because that's what happens.
- 41:50That's what happens when you try and like bring in middle management, absolutely
- 41:55and Balencio that was made up by me. Oh, Marvel, give me
- 42:00a call, Marvel, come up with characters at any point. Okay,
- 42:04well, one final lineup of villains for each team. So here's your final
- 42:08lineup, The Great Huggers, shatter Racks, cracker Jack, Fragmentsald. Shatter
- 42:16Racks is reminding me of something. There's shatter Star, which is like X
- 42:22Men, and then there's Terrax, which is a Herald of Galactus. And
- 42:27so I don't know if it's just the love child of those two that I'm
- 42:30thinking. What are the other names you've got cracker Jack and Fragmental m hm,
- 42:37they sounds like really good serials. Now, oh man, I mean
- 42:46we can go of my gut, which is not really a gut of anything.
- 42:49It's just that sounds like a calm. Well, it sounds like you
- 42:51should go with Charlie's guts. What are you? What are you thinking?
- 42:57Man? So here read off the names one more time. Yeah, absolutely,
- 43:00shatter Racks, cracker Jack or Fragmental? Right? Yeah, I think
- 43:07I can go with cracker Jack. Yeah, just with your gut, cracker
- 43:10Jacks, do it? Yeah, I mean, follow your gut. It's
- 43:14gonna lead you down the wrong path in this case, because it's not the
- 43:15correct answer. The correct answer is Shatteracks. Goddamn cracker Jack I made up
- 43:22or just looked inside my cupboard. And Fragmental is DC DC Okay that also
- 43:29sounds like like an actual comic name, but for a bonus point, shatter
- 43:31Racks is it? Is it? Well, there's a few keywords I'm looking
- 43:38for here. Are they made of rock? Are they like a crusty person?
- 43:43Cut skin? Do they stink? And ned? Why they're villain?
- 43:52I got nothing? You say something? Yeah? Throughouts my ideas, Charlie.
- 43:58I mean we could go with your additional idea, like what was it
- 44:00the child of Terrax and the other person Shatterstar? Yeah, just two amalgamations.
- 44:07Herald of girl Actus. How about that one of those. It's not
- 44:10not quite. I was looking for cree super soldier sensors and lasers can fly
- 44:15through space. Basically a big space robot who works for the Creeze. Oh
- 44:20robot, Okay, it was damn cree Okay. One final lineup of villains
- 44:25for the space Hawks. Sorry Space Hawks, no that, I'll hold you
- 44:30to it. Here it is audro the Unstoppable, Jason or Matthew w I
- 44:42know the ja apostrophe son, isn't that a? Yeah? That is his
- 44:49dad in the comics U Jason of of I can't remember the name of like
- 44:55his planet Sparta Spartaks. Yeah, that's it, Yeah, Jason of Spartas.
- 45:00Yea is Yeah, you've answer in the description as well. Yeah.
- 45:07And this yeah, and this guy is just a dude. He's like a
- 45:12guy. He was a cool helmet and like a big cloak like type jacket.
- 45:15Yeah, yeah, maybe alias as well. Also Jason also known as
- 45:21is that ego? Is it the same? King? I think like he's
- 45:23king. He's king. At one point, at one point you've said enough
- 45:28because you've said father of star Lord in the comics. That was the key
- 45:30thing there. And I know that was a slightly easier question at the end,
- 45:31but I had to go for it for the order Jason Matthew w Thing
- 45:35Yeah, yeah, order the Unstoppable completely made up, Okay, Matthew Matthew
- 45:40W is from DC. Is a rich kid who's obsessed with Bruce Wayne,
- 45:44who orders his butler to kill his parents. Become like Batman. Pretty wild.
- 45:50They just they just copied your life. They owe me money. That's
- 45:55DC and Marvel now. But yeah, Jason, father of Lord j Hipostrophe
- 46:00son is mister Knife is the alias that he goes by. Such. I
- 46:06know that his son is star Lord, but it's brutal. That is the
- 46:12end of round one. Let's gather our spoils and counter up our ravaged treasures
- 46:16aka the scores, Oh tessaract. The grout Huggers are on five points and
- 46:24tying it up with that last question, space hogs are also on five points.
- 46:29Dawn, we got two easy ones. We got thing things whom they
- 46:32got Jason. Yeah, yeah, that's it. Balanced, It felt balanced.
- 46:37Yeah. Up next is round two. But first here's a series of
- 46:40smart ads, so they'll probably be about space tourism, gardening supplies, and
- 46:45taxidermy. We'd all love to stuff Rocket what I think. I think there's
- 46:50a segment of the internet that would like to stuff Rocket. Round two is
- 47:00called pitch Battle. It's like a quicker, snappier version of our game Pitch
- 47:05It. And if you don't know our game, Pitch It, listen to
- 47:07some other episodes after you've done with this one. So in this game,
- 47:10I will ask our team to give a quick response, like the first answer
- 47:14you think of off the top of your head, to a prompt which will
- 47:17involve changing or adding to the Guardians franchise in one way or another. I'll
- 47:22then ask the other team the exact same prompt, and I'll pick my favorite
- 47:25answer of the two to four answers and award points based on my whims and
- 47:30preferences. Because life isn't fair, but we'll make the game fair by going
- 47:35back and forth with which team gets to go first. So the Groot Huggers
- 47:40Chris Pratt has mercifully left the franchise to do seven more marios, but we've
- 47:45been greenlit for three more movies. So who would you cast as star Lord
- 47:50Edge? Sheeran nice? They are the same brand of Bland white dude,
- 47:57So yeah, that Jason God, you don't think you're going to top Edge
- 48:05here and then no, we're just gonna go ahead dream Yeah, all right,
- 48:08let's let's move on over to Space Hawks. Florence pew Oh. I
- 48:14like it. I this is meant to be like a quick round, right
- 48:16because I've got like a big x plainer behind it, Elliott Page. Wow,
- 48:24because at one point in the comics Kitty Pride was star Lord like she
- 48:30took that mantle, and long long ago, Elliott Page played Katie Pride in
- 48:36the X Men film. So I think there's like a little little link though.
- 48:39That is a good link. That's a good line. I'm good.
- 48:42I'm gonna give a point to each team because we've got a good link.
- 48:44Cancer and Edge here and made me laugh a lot. You won that case
- 48:50ed you did it for music? Well, then just topical news there.
- 48:53Yeah, okay, next prompt. This time, I'd like an answer from
- 48:57Space Hawks. First, raccoons aren't testing well with audiences in the twenty thirties
- 49:00after Bandit went on that spree. So Rocket is now a different animal?
- 49:05What animal is rocket? First thought is red panda because I can't I cannot
- 49:12imagine them testing portly and any Mark pangling. That is all I'm gonna say.
- 49:17We'll go with that. Yeah, you with pangling, just a scaly
- 49:21guy with a gun. Yeah, that's good. That sounds great, all
- 49:24right, groot huggers. Gonna go with Rocket Baboon just because it runs.
- 49:30That's good, red ass all over the screen all the time. It is
- 49:35good. Rocket Baboon is good. I'm gonna give the point a Rocket Baboon's
- 49:40irreverence, and I appreciate that. I assumed you were happy to go with
- 49:45Rocket Baboon. Charlie like a duck because of like how the duck like a
- 49:52goose, just like waddling around if you just go yeah, but funny,
- 49:57Rocket Baboon was good. Untitled Goose movie. Okay, next prompts quick.
- 50:04We need one more twentieth century pop song that hasn't been on the soundtrack yet.
- 50:07It's for a fight scene in a space canteen. What's the song?
- 50:13Thinking out loud but from the twentieth century? Do you reckon? Oh shit?
- 50:20Old music answers to everything usher. I also messed that up. Yeah,
- 50:24okay, shit nine twentieth century? Uh fucking what is the song from
- 50:30the twentieth century? I don't even know one seventies eighties, nineties. Oh
- 50:35shit, that's a lot like the old The soundtracks tend to be seventies eighties.
- 50:38Uh fucking oh shit, I can't think of any I'm so bad a
- 50:45music, dude. I can't think of a single fucking song. Oh what
- 50:50did I listen to in the nineties? Would what did it make us listen
- 50:53to? Uh? Oh this is horrible? Yeah, all right, we
- 51:00might just move on over waterfalls. I'll see Yeah, you good. I've
- 51:07never seen someone so filled with anguish during gately p Charlie just then, just
- 51:13just like trying to narrow it down. I was like, you gotta be
- 51:15you gotta know the nineties, Jason, God, that's all you know.
- 51:20It's not from um, like the correct timeframe, but it was if it
- 51:23was a vintage canteen UM, I can't remember the name. My boy,
- 51:28Lollipop would be a good Oh yeah, okay, fight that that is tunny
- 51:31and century for sure. I was. I was going to borrow from another
- 51:35film soundtrack and Missus Robinson by Simon and we have a winner. Imagine that
- 51:40while plates of food are being thrown everywhere, people like in their heads chopped
- 51:44off. I'm not gonna make you sing it. Thank you, thank you.
- 51:50Yeah, let's let's go in, Missus Robinson. I loved the struggle.
- 51:53I still can't think of Honestly, I just could see it. I
- 51:57could see the poet points of the space has the okay, space space Oks,
- 52:01you'll be answering this one. First. One of the Guardians must die
- 52:06in Guardians Volume four? Who is it and why? Star Lord? Fuck
- 52:12Chris Pratt. Yeah, yeah, I can't think. I don't want anyone
- 52:19else to die. Yeah, it's a common thing. I like to side
- 52:23characters more than the main character. Let's get rid of him, Okay,
- 52:27star Lord, if we have to choose someone different, I don't mind the
- 52:30idea of like losing I know it's a controversial take, but Rocket just because
- 52:37like he's beloved and it would impact really hard. But just like he is
- 52:40an animal, he does have a short lifespan, and I think like it
- 52:45just hits heart, like he's the heart. Yeah, I would say he's
- 52:46the heart of that team and it just hits it. It would hit harder.
- 52:50Yeah, I'm gonna give it the points here because it's a bigger risk.
- 52:52I also agree, fuck Chris Pratt, But it's a bigger risk,
- 52:54and we like risks. Yeah, my other choice is just going to be
- 52:57a group again. Just keep killing him, honestly, if he can grow
- 53:02back, literally there is no risk. No, you can just go for
- 53:06it, just keep doing it. Yeah, okay, groot huggers, you're
- 53:07first on this one. If a grout falls in a forest and no one
- 53:10is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Is the forest?
- 53:15Counter question? It's a forest full of other grouts. He is part
- 53:19of an alien species. We'll say, only this grout is in the forest,
- 53:23all the other trees that to watch. I think, I think,
- 53:27what do you what do you think, Charlie? Do you think if a
- 53:29grout falls in a forest and no one's around to hear it, does it
- 53:31still make a sound? Yeah? I would say so. I think it's
- 53:34like as he's falling, he gives like a huge like I'm grow and like
- 53:38moves across the world. Yeah, yeah, I like it. I like
- 53:43it. Yeah. I think he says fuck. I think because he knows
- 53:47as no one else around and he just like looks around and just says fuck.
- 53:51Yeah. Deep than diesel voice. Yeah, it's wooden acting. It's
- 53:57just non modified in any way. Oh, it's that sound bite of Vin
- 54:02Diesel like he's got Justin Limb like fucking hostage and he's like, hey,
- 54:07Justin, is fast X really good? And Justin's like, yeah, I
- 54:09guess you sound like what do you think? Justin Week one? The French
- 54:17Week one? How does it feel? It feels like the beginning of of
- 54:22an epic ending? Is it fair to say that this will be the best
- 54:29one? In my heart? Yes, I'm gonna give both teams a point
- 54:35there because you've said the correct thing, and yes, a noise was made.
- 54:38If you'd have said no, you'd have failed philosophy class in physics and
- 54:44physics the waves are there, whether you perceive him or not. They're not
- 54:49real science, and we believe in science at Gate Leapaz. I guess I
- 54:53should probably just not physics space first on this one. What would the title
- 55:01of a drag spinoff movie be called? I'm trying to trying to think of
- 55:07rhymes for drags. I was training them, um drags, the something else
- 55:13other than destroyer? Oh yeah, the employer. It's a workplace. Might
- 55:21I was gonna say Drasia and it's just still kind of a workplace. Comedy.
- 55:27You can marry those ideas. Yeah, damn, that's really good.
- 55:30I was gonna say, because I guess it's over to us. I was
- 55:34gonna say, um, what is it kicking names? Taking drags? Okay,
- 55:38yeah, yeah, that's nice. I was gonna say, like drags
- 55:43never seen because it's like they's seen in gardens and guy too, where's Oh
- 55:46yeah, I'm invisible? Yeah, play into the old. Oh yeah,
- 55:52but that's Dave Batista, not John Cena. We recast. Oh hello,
- 55:59No, Dave's great. Yeah. Yeah. Prisis a faith points of the
- 56:05space hugs there for this one with drags, the employee stuff, it was
- 56:08crazy. Um. And finally, if you could add one DC character to
- 56:14the Guardians, who would it be? Who would fit in with the Guardians?
- 56:16Is it us? First? It is? Oh plastic Man? Dude.
- 56:21Oh that is a good one. That's a good one, right,
- 56:23that is a good one. I was thinking, I want I want the
- 56:27interaction pretty Batman and tracks. Oh yeah, two bloody boys. Yeah,
- 56:31serious as well? Yeah, who is who is plastic Man? Plastic Man
- 56:36is um. He has the essentially the powers of mister fantastic Um. He
- 56:39decides to take shapes of very cartoon ish characters. He's an ex con as
- 56:45well, so his background has always been like the black Sheep of superheroes.
- 56:47He falls sometimes back into his ex con ways, but he's ultimately like a
- 56:52womanizer kind of guy. Um but just like as a silly character, he's
- 56:57like that guy you love to hate. Yeah, type of situation, but
- 57:00difficult to recycle, like Flat Stanley. Flat Stanley now joining the Guardians of
- 57:10the Galaxy. M what is your offering to counter plastic man? Do you
- 57:16have a good one? Because I know very few DC characters, Um,
- 57:23I would I would like a villain like yeah, Like there's a lot of
- 57:28villains that end up like joining the Guardians of the Galaxy and I'm doing good
- 57:30for a little bit. I think my pitch would have been King Shark,
- 57:37because I like the idea of underwater things in space. It's like the repeating
- 57:40whale. The whales are always in space. Would be really fun. Yeah,
- 57:45that would be my im glad I think, yeah, like it was
- 57:51just I think especially like the the DC film, like King Shot. I
- 57:53don't know if he's like this in the comics, but they like himbo.
- 57:58Yeah, I think would would would fit really well. Oh, this is
- 58:00tough because now there's the plastic man answer that led led to the flat Stanley
- 58:05thing that really made me laugh, and then a really good answer for who
- 58:08would actually fit in with the Guardians. I's gonna give a point to each
- 58:10team. Okay, I like this game. Honorable mentions Blue Bedo. I
- 58:15think Blue Bedo would also be really good because he's alien based and he's a
- 58:17younger kid. Nice space animal get in there. Yeah that's true. Yeah,
- 58:23and younger younger kid the thing of carrying on the legacy of like taking
- 58:29care of those discarded Yeah, yeah, good stuff. All right, that's
- 58:32the end of the round. Let's ask Mantis to use her mind powers to
- 58:37calculate the latest scores. Yep, she's just told me, and it turns
- 58:42out I'm her brother. Okay. The Groot Huggers are on ten points and
- 58:49space Hogs are also on ten points. It's still tied. Oh man,
- 58:54Well, Round three is next, but first we've got to play some commercials
- 58:59to keep the lights on. Go on, buy another mattress. I know
- 59:01you've got twelve already, but throw another one on the pile. You'll be
- 59:05more comfy. Round three is called wiki Wiki what. Fandom wikis are a
- 59:17useful source of information when making podcasts just like this, but they're also managed
- 59:22by the biggest gatekeepers in any fandom. So for this game, I search
- 59:27the fandom wiki for sentences that proved their incompetence. That's right, I'm gate
- 59:31keeping the gatekeepers. Nice. I will read an extract from the official fan
- 59:37wiki that either had bad grammar or spelling, but also a word of phrase
- 59:40is missing from that sentence. So legit shoot had terrible pros, but there's
- 59:46a word missing that is from the law. It's up to our teams to
- 59:51fill in that missing word or phrase in exchange for one shiny point, which
- 59:55is worth the same as a regular point. I need to clarify. So,
- 1:00:00just like round one, will go back and forth between the teams.
- 1:00:02I'll give each pair an extract. You just fill in the blank, and
- 1:00:07it's all from either the movies or Earth six one six. There's no like,
- 1:00:10okay, extra content in there. The groot Huggers. Here is your
- 1:00:15first extract. Udonta and his Ravager clan arrived at Berhart to maybe it's not
- 1:00:22that Burhart, to capture the Guardians and to hand them over the blank and
- 1:00:28it should be hand them over to the is what it should be. But
- 1:00:31when I made the edit on the fandom, they changed it back. Who
- 1:00:38the fuck is you? Danta? Forget but Danta and his rave. There's
- 1:00:42so many confusing words in Marvel. It's horrible. Udonta and his Ravager clan
- 1:00:45arrived at Burhart to capture the Guardians and to hand them over to the I
- 1:00:51think there's a movie thing, and I think, oh, oh, okay,
- 1:00:55yeah, I think it's I think it's either the Novacorsi answer or the
- 1:01:00Gold People. Oh shit, you've really God damn it. I don't know
- 1:01:05now. Oh, I don't know who you Danta is, unless that's another
- 1:01:07name for Yondu. Yeah, that's what I was thinking about. I know
- 1:01:10I've never heard that name. Fuck shit, all right, So it's like
- 1:01:14the Novocord or the Sovereign or the Gold People. I was also thinking the
- 1:01:16Creed because the cree of the bad guys at number one, Oh you go
- 1:01:20three options? Wow, yeah, see this is not even if I'd made
- 1:01:24it, those would have been the three choices Nocor would like higher, like
- 1:01:28the averages decent deduction. I think, so, okay, I don't know
- 1:01:31I forget that movie. It's been a while. I just watched three.
- 1:01:34I didn't watch one Man. Yeah, let's go Novacord fuck it, happy
- 1:01:38you go Novocord Chali, Yeah, I agree, I'll back it. Okay,
- 1:01:43let's let the internal team fighting begin. It's the gold people, It's
- 1:01:47damn it sovereign. So sorry, all right, you got you took one
- 1:01:52from me. I took one from you. That results itself quite peaceful,
- 1:01:58like, yeah, okay, space Ogs, here we go. Here is
- 1:02:01your extract. As they flew to Nowhere to meet with the Blank, tension
- 1:02:07developed between the five as they clashed over the lack of trust. I mean
- 1:02:12nowhere is where the Collector hangs out, and they do. I think they
- 1:02:17go and meet with him in Infinity War to like get the stone. That
- 1:02:22sound familiar. But then yes, question mark, I think they also like
- 1:02:28go to nowhere after the prison break in the first film, Like I think
- 1:02:31that's where they like flee to and like obviously there would be like a lack
- 1:02:37of trust them because they've just met. But see that's the that's you should
- 1:02:40have said. This is what I tried to edit it to a lack of
- 1:02:43trust or their lack of trust. But they put the lack of trust.
- 1:02:46But that's like a possessive concept, which like you've got to have their or
- 1:02:52I changed it. They changed it right back. Unbelievable. Matt's ride or
- 1:02:57brain is going nutty. Yeah, so you're going with collector. If you're
- 1:03:01happy to go with the with the Collector, I'm good with that. It
- 1:03:05is the Collector that's correct issue. The lack of trust feels like it's a
- 1:03:09continual thing that they always experience. Exactly. That's my email. Sorry you're
- 1:03:16going to say yours again. I was just gonna get pedantic with yours.
- 1:03:22I've turned my pedantry into the recurring joke of this round. Um okay,
- 1:03:28back on over to greet huggers. Here is your extract. In their first
- 1:03:31ever mission, the group clashed with the revitalized Universal Church of Blank to stop
- 1:03:37their brutal journey of forcidly converting people to their faith. This is the video
- 1:03:44game, isn't it? This is the video game? Oh? I know
- 1:03:45this too, No chuck search search it the Reversal Church of I want to
- 1:03:55say, like like reform or like reformation Universal Church of Reform. Are you
- 1:04:00happy to go with it? Jason. Yeah, I said about the video
- 1:04:06game, but I didn't play the video game. It's not reform. It's
- 1:04:10a good guess, but it's not reform. It's truth, Universal Church of
- 1:04:15Truth. I think the Universal Church of Reform is like an American mega church
- 1:04:18tree, one of those like, yeah, it happens, it happens.
- 1:04:27Okay, back on over to spaces. Alongside Emperor Hulkling and his consort Blank,
- 1:04:33the Guardians fended off the progenitors, but we are surprised by Doctor Doom.
- 1:04:41Should be, but were surprised by Doctor Doom, But we are,
- 1:04:45didn't you just I was? I? Yeah, this is this is volume
- 1:04:49six. I think, ah, do you remember who Emperor Hulkling's consort is?
- 1:04:56Can you read like the phrasing of it again? Absolutely alongside Emperor Hulkling
- 1:05:00and his consort Blank, the Guardians fended off the progenitas. That's the word
- 1:05:04I'm struggling with. But were surprised by Doctor Doom. Emperor Kling is like
- 1:05:10he's like part Cree, part Scroll, and so he's like united those two
- 1:05:15empires into one single one, and his his consort is lots of people.
- 1:05:23So I'm I'm trying to think of who the specific person would because Super super
- 1:05:27Scrull and Ronan the accuser, are both there. Okay, but then there's
- 1:05:32also another accuser whose name I forget, and iron Man I think is there
- 1:05:38as well. Like I think like this is like a he's always there.
- 1:05:41This is like an Avengure Guardians thing. I definitely believe you when you say
- 1:05:45that lots of consorts are there. There are there are lots of contents like
- 1:05:48yapecifically. I mean it could also be his husband, Wickan. You said
- 1:05:54it, you said the answer. I was looking for it because that's what
- 1:05:57console means in this context. Yeah. Yeah, I take it from the
- 1:06:01damage, that's what that's that's what they meant too. I like that they've
- 1:06:05made Wickan like a like a little concubine consort. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 1:06:12consolet is the word. Okay, So back on over to Groot Huggers.
- 1:06:15Here is your next extract. Lady Lilah is a sapient otter and rocket raccoon
- 1:06:20soulmate. She is the heiress to the largest blank empire on the planet's half
- 1:06:27world. Damn it. I don't know who she is, but I love
- 1:06:30her. Yeah, she's the honor you see in the trailer. Yeah,
- 1:06:33she's in the trailer. Yeah yeah, and that is a real thing that
- 1:06:38happened in the comics. I don't know what race she is. Uh,
- 1:06:42the trick is just to say, like the otter, well, i'll give
- 1:06:46you I'll give you the clue. It's more business related. It's the largest
- 1:06:49something empire on the planet half World. So it's not like a race based
- 1:06:53empire. It's like a business empire. So you're trying to name like a
- 1:06:57type of business. I mean, she's supposed to be a good girl,
- 1:07:00so it wouldn't be like slave business. It would be honest. Fish.
- 1:07:03Yeah, the fish. Yeah they fish fishing empire. It's a good guess.
- 1:07:09Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's aishing empire. It's a good guess.
- 1:07:13It's a funny answer. I love it. If I were behind the
- 1:07:15wikia, I would give you the point. But no, it's it's the
- 1:07:19largest toy making empire. Oh appy, they make toys on half World apparently.
- 1:07:26Okay, so no point there. Back on doing bad in this round.
- 1:07:29Track great in this round. I don't think we've gotten one. That
- 1:07:33may be true. Moving back on over to Space RX, the Guardians were
- 1:07:38enlisted to the corrupted Nova Corps by Blank as the Raptors represented a common enemy.
- 1:07:45Is this part of annihilation? Oh, this might be annihilation conquest um
- 1:07:50because like that has a lot of like mind control, corruption stuff, and
- 1:07:57the Novacre maybe still exists at that point they get like they get annihilated and
- 1:08:01annihilation. But then it might be like that. I mean, it could
- 1:08:03just be Nova. He's the guy, uh, the titular Nova, the
- 1:08:11titular Nova Uldre. You've read all six volumes and starting on volume seven,
- 1:08:15what's got any ideas here? I think my biggest idea is building people up.
- 1:08:25And so I think, and you know, I'm just gonna I'm just
- 1:08:30gonna validate that. I believe in it entirely. You're going with Nova.
- 1:08:35It's not Nova. It is Commander ad Sit, Commander add Sit, that
- 1:08:40classic Marvel character Chunky Wikipedia page. But it is. It is largely because
- 1:08:47he has the same name and is drawn the same as the actor Scott ad
- 1:08:51Sit. Yeah, who is in thirty Rock and who voices Ba Max,
- 1:08:56and so there's a little crossover to our thirty Rock episode. But they just
- 1:08:59basically took a real life person, were like, you're a Marvel character now
- 1:09:03so no point there. I've got one final extract for each team. Come
- 1:09:09on, bit of redemption, Lets go, you've got this. You've got
- 1:09:11this. Rockets and Groot arrive in Wakanda and helped fight off hordes of outriders.
- 1:09:18However, when Thanos arrived seeking the Blank Stone, he effortlessly defeated Groot.
- 1:09:25Did he ever defeat Gut? I think that's wrong in itself. I
- 1:09:28don't even think that. Yeah, but anyways, that's not that's Yeah.
- 1:09:33Banos comes to kind of looking for the Mindstone, which is still in vision
- 1:09:38at the time. Yeah, happy with that, Charlie, same mindstone.
- 1:09:42Yeah, it is Mindstone. I was helping a trip up a couple of
- 1:09:45nerds that all these mcguffins are the same. How can you tell the difference
- 1:09:49between the stones? But it turns out you can. Okay, final extracts
- 1:09:54for space Hawks, Mantis and Drax returned with Blank and employed the help of
- 1:10:00the other Guardians to decorate nowhere. Kevin, you want to say it,
- 1:10:05Yeah, it's Kevin Bacon. He Kevin Bacon. They still Kevin Bacon.
- 1:10:09They still Kevin Bacon. Well, I'm gonna give you the point, because
- 1:10:12that is actually the correct answer, but according to the fandom wikia, it's
- 1:10:15just small bee bacon. So the fandom wikia says Mantis and Drax returned with
- 1:10:23bacon. They just like knit to the score bacon. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 1:10:30take a moment in this podcast to talk about something that's been on my mind
- 1:10:32about the Guardians for like a long time. Yeah, so, like star
- 1:10:36Lord's ship is that he loves eighties action heroes because that's where he was.
- 1:10:40You know, like you're old now, so you understand these references. Yea.
- 1:10:44Also, he was abducted in the eighties, but Sylvestor Stallone is like
- 1:10:47in these movies, and I'm pretty sure Rocky one would have been out by
- 1:10:50the time, if not Rocky two, by the time you got abducted.
- 1:10:55And he just never mentioned Sylvester Stallone because Sylvester Stallone is also in these movies
- 1:11:00and that guy is clearly just Sylvester Stallone. Yeah, like he's not an
- 1:11:03alien. He also his dad is Kurt Russell Sneaki is that guy's name,
- 1:11:12right, Yeah, unbelievable. It's just like, what is this, Like,
- 1:11:15does Sylvester Stallone not if the system this universe is Samuel Jackson also not
- 1:11:19exists in this universe when it's clearly Nick Fury. It's a valid point.
- 1:11:24It's a very valid point. Yeah, a valid point that we wouldn't have
- 1:11:27a question about if they didn't introduce Kevin Bacon as Kevin Bacon. Yes,
- 1:11:30exactly right, or um fucking Hassehoff. Yeah, it's a problem of their
- 1:11:35own making. Yeah, anyways, anyways, Yeah, that's the end of
- 1:11:41round three. Now, am I going to do the math or ignore the
- 1:11:45math? If I ignore the math, we won't be able to finish the
- 1:11:48podcast. So I'm going to do the math. Oh it's all changed.
- 1:11:51It's finally changed. Oh god. The Grouse Huggers are on eleven points,
- 1:11:57but the space Hugs and now in the lead with thirteen points. I thought
- 1:12:00the lead was higher. I thought the lead was higher if I'm being honest,
- 1:12:02Yeah, yes, it's close. Yeah, it's anyone's game. We
- 1:12:05could do this. I think that was a rough round for both teams.
- 1:12:11So you know, it's just the Wikipedia page. It's a nightmare. Made
- 1:12:15eight changes. They were not well received, and honestly, based on that
- 1:12:19Fanosk group thing, it sounds like there's a valid change to be made.
- 1:12:23That's not just me being pedantic. Yeah yeah, unless it's like they're counting
- 1:12:27bonus features which are deleted scenes. Maybe they are get a fucking way.
- 1:12:30Yeah. Okay, before we get to our final quick fire around, let's
- 1:12:35talk prizes. This episode. Star Prize is the concept of found family.
- 1:12:42Last time it was family, this week found family. And it's great to
- 1:12:45be saying these words I'm about to say in front of our actual family.
- 1:12:48But here we go. Family is not always about who you're related to you
- 1:12:53by bloods. In fact, it's often isn't. Found family are the people
- 1:12:57you can truly be yourself around, and they usually healthier relationships than actual blood
- 1:13:01relatives. Okay, this is just getting cruel, so I'm gonna stop.
- 1:13:04Well, I'm gonna hold on. I'm gonna if you don't mind, I'm
- 1:13:06gonna put a lighter note on that. I very much consider Matt and Audre
- 1:13:11my found family, Chuck. I like had a two hour phone call with
- 1:13:15Isabelle, your sister of my cousin about our family, and like the grievances
- 1:13:20I have and the complaints I have about them and so and so forth.
- 1:13:23I feel closer to Matt and Audra than I do most of our aunts nowadays,
- 1:13:29which is crazy. Uh, And like like I keep you and Isabel
- 1:13:32close of course, and so and so forth, but like it's good to
- 1:13:34know that I have both you and Isabel and Matt and Audra as well,
- 1:13:39just as like close people. So I've always your aunts. Listened to the
- 1:13:43podcast Want To Tried, It was very valiant, but that was back in
- 1:13:47Drinkipedia day, so that's been like, yes, I mean when I was
- 1:13:51growing up, I knew I didn't want kids, but I always wanted to
- 1:13:55be a cool aunt. So for me, oh Tiadra, uncle Matt is
- 1:14:04fine though. Yeah, I found family, good concept. Yeah, everyone
- 1:14:12has found family. We all have it. Everyone's good friends. It's awesome.
- 1:14:15But our winning team will also receive a meet and greet with Chris Pratt
- 1:14:20this Sunday at his celebrity megachurch. Oh no, minimum five thousand dollar donation.
- 1:14:28You had me in the first half. I was like, I actually
- 1:14:30wouldn't mind having dinner. Oh no, not, I've been in a church
- 1:14:34in a while. I think I burn God, I would and group nightmare
- 1:14:41first up. Next is our crucial quick fire around. But here's one final
- 1:14:47set of adverts just like this whole podcast is one unpaid ad for Guardians of
- 1:14:53the Galaxy Volume three in cinemas. Now go see it. What Am I
- 1:14:56doing with my life? Our final quick fire round will test your broader pop
- 1:15:09culture knowledge and it is called we Are Root. They're used throughout pop culture,
- 1:15:15dating back to ancient mythology. But how well do you know your pop
- 1:15:18culture trees? That's right, we're running out of categories for the quick fire
- 1:15:27In this game, I will give our players clues to a tree from pop
- 1:15:30culture history. Those clues will be a list of other characters they're often surrounded
- 1:15:35by, aka the fellow guardians of their universe. And there's of course a
- 1:15:40classic gatesleaper's twist. You need to say I am before your answer. You
- 1:15:45can do it in the style of Groot a big booming Vin Diesel voice,
- 1:15:48or you can just say the words I am. If you think this whole
- 1:15:51performance thing is a bit too much, it's quickfire, so buzz in by
- 1:15:57yelling out your team name. Let's practice that now, Space Hogs, I
- 1:16:03say just grew because it counts and it's faster than saying Groot Huggers, because
- 1:16:08I mean, we can just yell hugs yeah, or if Adro was gonna
- 1:16:12win, I had already abandoned the bit. You say hogs, busus Huggers.
- 1:16:18Oh, if you're gonna go grew, I was gonna go huggers.
- 1:16:24Yea. Let's do accept any of the words from your team name. Um,
- 1:16:28so let's do Let's do a practice Let's do a practice question just to
- 1:16:31test out the form. So if I said rad aghast Mary Pippin, I
- 1:16:38was hoping that this would be the practice round up, I am tree Beard
- 1:16:44exactly that, so it would be team name to buzz in and then say
- 1:16:47I am and in this case tree Beard gotch it. Okay, we will
- 1:16:53say Uldra. You said the wrong team name when you buzzed in, just
- 1:16:57then did sp I'm precy sure you said huggas. This is my eternal bays.
- 1:17:03I just don't know how buzzing, and it causes me so much stressed.
- 1:17:08I will not know many of these answers. One of these days,
- 1:17:11I'll get you a real buzzer. Look, this is almost tenuous category yet
- 1:17:15so and there are twelve questions. So let's go Harry Ron Groove my yes,
- 1:17:21Jason, the I am the swamping Willow that is correct. You are
- 1:17:26the swamping Willow. I can't believe I knew that I gave it. I
- 1:17:30can't believe you knew it half a second before me. I gave it a
- 1:17:35second delay as well. Odin Rat Yeah, hugs, yes, Ultra,
- 1:17:43I am idrisill Yes, Idris still all the world tree. That's good.
- 1:17:46Miko, No coma Pocahontas grouts hugs. You said our name, Yeah you
- 1:17:57did, you did, so I've got it. I gotta go with Jason,
- 1:18:00and then we said it at the same time. I was like,
- 1:18:08what is going on? I am Grandmother Tree. I believe it's your name,
- 1:18:13right, I'll give you it, Grandmother will I'll give you it.
- 1:18:15You said grandmother. Okay, I don't know what my team name is and
- 1:18:18I wasn't allowed to watch Pokahontis growing up, but I know it's grandmother Willow.
- 1:18:23Oh, let's not explore that one, okay. Moat Nate Re Jake
- 1:18:30Sulley hugs. Yes, Aiden, I am that big fucking tree from Offe.
- 1:18:40You said Avatar. I'll take it, and it's not Tree of Life
- 1:18:42eyes, No, it's the Should I name it, Charlie if you can
- 1:18:47name it I'll also give your team a point. Is it the mother Tree?
- 1:18:50It's not the mother Tree, I sign climactic. It's the tree.
- 1:18:56It's the Tree of souls. But you said, you said that big fucking
- 1:18:59tree from Avatar. That's good enough for this quick fire out faster Okay,
- 1:19:03next ellen, deal is sealed to hogs. Yes, oldra oh, I
- 1:19:12am the White Tree of Gondor. I am the White Tree of Gondo.
- 1:19:15Yes, I think it's sorry, sorry to hog over your hogs. Also,
- 1:19:23hogs flying around all over the place. I couldn't remember if it had
- 1:19:26a name beyond that. Okay, next one, phantom phantom fantomp oh hogs
- 1:19:31fuck? Yes, I do damn it. I am trevalent. It is
- 1:19:36it? Am trevalent little Pokemon reference. It took me a little bit.
- 1:19:43Should just buzzed in my dough Navi link groot, Yes, Jason, I
- 1:19:49said it like anyone else is gonna fucking answer. I am the Decu Tree,
- 1:19:54Yes, the Great Decu Tree or the Decutree. Yes, awesome.
- 1:19:58The sugar just went to my body. I just that match is hidden now.
- 1:20:03Yeah, that one second delay might be going out the window. Sorry,
- 1:20:05guys, all right, we might get touch more tenuous now, Bain
- 1:20:11Joker. Yes, I knew this was coming up. I am swamp thing,
- 1:20:16you know, I'm gonna give you it. I've got poison ivy here,
- 1:20:18but I'll take something still tree like villain. Yeah from that, damn
- 1:20:23it. No, No, you still generous. That's point. I've got
- 1:20:27to be generous. The green who knows trees? Who the fuck knows trees?
- 1:20:31Barbaris Yeah, you know fair answer, ned brand John, I keep
- 1:20:41buzzing seeing your name. That's fantastic because yeah, I'll give you off for
- 1:20:45Charlie for this answer. Yeah. Oh is it like the like the Old
- 1:20:49God's willow or whatever? You know, I gave the avatar one. I'll
- 1:20:53give you that because the Old God tree is like a nickname for it,
- 1:20:56the weir wood tree they also call up. But yeah, I'll give you
- 1:20:59the point for that one. Patrick, mister mushnick Seymour, Oh hogs,
- 1:21:03hogs, hogs hogs, Yes, Aiden, I am Audrey too. That
- 1:21:08is correct, kind of kind of a big tree by the end, kind
- 1:21:11of yeah. Okay, next one, Scorchio cacheek jub jub. What tree
- 1:21:19is that? Oh hogs? Yes, Aiden, I can't remember the name
- 1:21:25of it and it's going to really annoy me. Um, but I am
- 1:21:29I am the Neo Pets tree. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you recognize
- 1:21:32the Neopets. Yeah, I recognize the Neopets. It is the money tree
- 1:21:36from Neo Pets Tree. But I am I'm based on how this round is
- 1:21:41going, I'm gonna give you the point is there is there is there a
- 1:21:43tree from Club Penguins, because Charlie would know that. Sorry, write a
- 1:21:48question real quick, rusal quick, watching as like face of realization is so
- 1:21:54funny because they just heard a Neopets reference for the first time in a decade.
- 1:22:02Yeah, it was like like like a calcified part of my brain.
- 1:22:09Oh and quick before the buzzer, Baby Rocket, Baby Mantis, Baby star
- 1:22:13Lord Groots. Yes, Jason, I am Baby group. You are Baby
- 1:22:16Grooves of course, and that's the buzzer like a baby Mario situation there.
- 1:22:19Yeah, yeah, you assume only babies groups. I was like, how
- 1:22:25do I make it Guardians but not Guardians for the finale, Like, oh
- 1:22:28there's a baby version. Yeah, okay. Before we get to the final
- 1:22:30scores, I'd like to thank our players. You've all been thrown together by
- 1:22:34fate but survived. Because of it. Actually it wasn't fate. We just
- 1:22:39sort of planned it and then it happened. Just good organization skills, right
- 1:22:42Lyah, I reckon still good Aiden. Where can our listeners follow you online?

- 1:24:18Adam Wood for the continued support at the highest tier over at Patreon dot com
- 1:24:23Forward slash Gate Leapers. You are our executive producers and you know how to
- 1:24:28make a better soundtrack than even James Gunn. High praise. That is high
- 1:24:31praise. He's got bangers. They're just they're just that good at making playlists.
- 1:24:38Okay, should we do it? Should we get to the final school,
- 1:24:40should we find out who won? Should find out who knows the most
- 1:24:43pop culture? Because that's what this entire game was about. Yeah, definitely.
- 1:24:49Before we get to the score, I will say I was waiting for
- 1:24:51Professor Oak, but realize he's not a tree fantastic. It would be like
- 1:25:00linked out his mind. He was like, it's gonna come, and when
- 1:25:01it comes, it's my time. He's like, wait, fuck, oh
- 1:25:08that's so good and honestly, would have made for a better series of questions
- 1:25:11if it was people named after trees, because there's a lot more of them.
- 1:25:14Yeah, I had to reach for neopets. Okay. Final scores are
- 1:25:17thus Space Hawks finish on nineteen points. Wow, that's a big score.
- 1:25:27Big score. That's a big score. And the group hook has finished on
- 1:25:29seventeen points, which means space Hooks are the winners by two points. Well
- 1:25:33one, Nio, what a one hit wonder. This is the first time
- 1:25:44because I'm a stat leapers guy, uh, this is the first time I've
- 1:25:46lost a Marvel one. And I'm to be honest, well deserved. Aiden
- 1:25:53and Audra like well deserved, Like like you came in hot with Guardians knowledge.
- 1:25:57I was just like, oh my god, I have not caught up.
- 1:25:59You all must be us with tree knowledge to be fast. I just
- 1:26:04didn't know how to buzz in. I think I get worse every episode having
- 1:26:12having people who like one, didn't listen to our episode at all. In
- 1:26:15the Fast episode like the episode before this, and had just met us.
- 1:26:18There was like this realization for them that it's like, oh my god,
- 1:26:20this is genuine and too holy shit. Yeah, it's like the most genuine
- 1:26:26I love that so much. How do you feel, Chuck having helped your
- 1:26:30cousin lose his first Marvel quiz? I mean, I guess it was both
- 1:26:35our faults because we took an answer, which of us. So I was
- 1:26:39like, yeah, true, I will say hats off to Inns knowledge.
- 1:26:44That was I was pretty impressive about the Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:26:47I was. I was good. Yeah. Oh, we're we're ended
- 1:26:49on a wholesome moment, not a joke. It's the nearer divergence. Yeah,
- 1:26:55but newer divergence isn't a joke. I mean sometimes it feels like it
- 1:26:58is. Yeah, I'm kind to come up with a drax the Nope,
- 1:27:04I got nothing we have being gate Leapers. Thank you so much listening.
- 1:27:08Subscribe to this feed for more geeky game shows. We've done game shows about
- 1:27:12a bunch of other Marvel sub fandoms like tons, so if Marvel's your thing,
- 1:27:15check those out. Please leave us a five star review if you had
- 1:27:18a good time, and ignore this sentence. If you didn't, thank you
- 1:27:21very much. I never normally say that, but I've said it. It's
- 1:27:24written in the copy. I've said it. I'm still talking. Please share
- 1:27:27this episode with a friend, a Marvel fan, a DC fan, Chris
- 1:27:30Pratt bother him at church. We'll be back next time when we'll play and
- 1:27:34play never changes. But until then, I leave you with this heartwarming quote
- 1:27:40from Yondo. He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't
- 1:27:44your daddy. Oh kinky, that's at Bye. I don't think you needed
- 1:27:49to add the oo kinky you said, daddy. What an episode, guys,
- 1:28:21it was? I mean like, it's always fun recording with family.
- 1:28:25Yes, family is a blast to record with, even if we didn't exactly
- 1:28:29match the theme with the fandom that it was fun. It was fun because
- 1:28:33we got a couple of nerds on which I really a surprising big Guardians,
- 1:28:40surprising, like I told myself as a combook fan. But when aiden's sort
- 1:28:44of dropping down, like like the fact that I had mentioned Phy Lavelle and
- 1:28:47all this other stuff, and not only that they're reading current stuff like volume
- 1:28:51six and all this stuff that they've been talking about is current shit, I
- 1:28:55would even dare to say. And it's only because this is at the end.
- 1:28:59I didn't say it during the actual episode. I think Aiden, Yeah,
- 1:29:02might be either a bigger combook nerd than me or more knowledgeable at the
- 1:29:08current moment, at least at least with the Gaudians franchise. So we got
- 1:29:12half of that. I lost lost well received myself. I was prepared to
- 1:29:15lose graciously, and then Aiden started spouting off stuff and I was like,
- 1:29:20I don't think, I don't know if I'm gonna yeah, no, that
- 1:29:27to me, that's too cool and hip to beat this into the well.
- 1:29:30Every now and then on Twitter, they'll like put a little panel out there
- 1:29:34and say something funny there, and I'm like, oh, they're reading that.
- 1:29:36That's that's I'll be honest. I was like, that's cute that they're
- 1:29:40reading that. Yeah. Yeah, I think they're fucking bigger there than me,
- 1:29:42and I need to show them their respect. They desire the point the
- 1:29:45points per Yeah, that's that's why we do this, right, it's a
- 1:29:46prive who knows small. Yeah. Absolutely. But also to the point of
- 1:29:49Aiden on having Chuck on, We've never had both of our family members no
- 1:29:55at the same time at the same time. Yeah, And that was fun
- 1:29:58because like Chuck brought it energy that I really enjoyed about the Spider Man episode
- 1:30:01of just like, I don't know how the kid's brain works, and I
- 1:30:04love that about him. Very funny. Chuck was fantastic. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:30:12the Professor Oakline had in regards to the trees at the end, because
- 1:30:16it does. It does make sense. And I've done that too, where
- 1:30:18I've just had something in my head he's got to do this one, He's
- 1:30:21got to do this, and then it just is like, oh no,
- 1:30:27he didn't for for a reason. Yeah, so good guess good good subject.
- 1:30:32Can we can we expect a family member of yours soldram anytime anytime soon?
- 1:30:39I love your mom. One if your mom has interesting insights about things,
- 1:30:42I don't know if we'll ever get her on, but it would have
- 1:30:45to. I don't think I could swear. You could swear in front of
- 1:30:50your mom. I think I could sworn in front of your mom. Think
- 1:30:53I think I could. I've sworn in front of your mom. I know
- 1:30:56I have, But there's something about the like the record did posterity. I
- 1:31:00think I can just like pretend that she didn't hear me swear if we're not
- 1:31:05oh like, if we're not recorded, it's just I don't know. A
- 1:31:11Parents episode would be an awkward all time. Oh god, we'd have to
- 1:31:15be in the same room I think for them to understand what's happening. Yeah,
- 1:31:18and even then, that's never happening. It's for my mom's that's never
- 1:31:24happening. I'm calling it now, Yeah, my parents. My parents is
- 1:31:30just referred to this as that little thing you do. There's a joke in
- 1:31:34that, but also I hear the truth in it. Yeah, I live
- 1:31:40that truth. Yeah. But love our family found family was the subject,
- 1:31:45yes, but love our actual family yeah yeah, yeah, Like having those
- 1:31:49two individuals on is just like a testament to like, you, we know
- 1:31:54each other well enough and we get along well enough that you can be a
- 1:31:57part of this as well. Yeah, which is like it sounds intuitive.
- 1:32:00It's like, yeah, it's your family, but anyone who has family knows
- 1:32:02that. It's like you, a lot of family members, if you knew
- 1:32:05them, like as a person, you probably wouldn't be friends with them.
- 1:32:09Yeah you know what I mean, Like people like I wouldn't be I would
- 1:32:13not be friends with you outside of this family event. Like I'm talking to
- 1:32:16you the whole time while we're here, but outside of this family reunion,
- 1:32:21I would not be seen with you. I think you're describing most families.
- 1:32:25Yeah, exactly right. But meanwhile, i'd be seen with you guys anywhere.
- 1:32:30Oh yeah, regularly we are ye seen with each other. Yeah,
- 1:32:32And I'll say this, I'll segue this. Anyone who's listening to the podcast,
- 1:32:36and especially those of you who are listening this far, you are part
- 1:32:41of our extended found family. I'm not going to say found family, because
- 1:32:44I don't like that whole parasocial thing that no have. But you are definitely
- 1:32:46part of our extended found family. And look, if you enjoyed this episode,
- 1:32:50let us know what you thought. Come join us in our discord.
- 1:32:53I'll put a fresh link in the show notes here. Come and come and
- 1:32:57hang out with us. Let us know what you thought. If you're already
- 1:32:59in the disc again, let us know what you're thought. I need a
- 1:33:01synonymous phrase for let us know what your thought? Yeah? Absolutely, uh
- 1:33:06common down below, No, it doesn't apply here. Thoughts, feelings,
- 1:33:11What did you find funny? Did you know any of the answers that are
- 1:33:15players? Did not get? Questions? Comments, concerns? Do you have
- 1:33:17any um actually style corrections? Yeah, thing that we said? Are you
- 1:33:21an og Marvel NERD, who's like, um, actually I like The Guardians
- 1:33:25with Charlie five and Martin X star Hawk some kind of It's funny how the
- 1:33:30nineteen sixties nineteen sixty nine version never came up in the quiz. No,
- 1:33:35I just referenced that it existed because I wanted to make that joke about the
- 1:33:39moon. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, but yeah, like it's
- 1:33:43it's it's always good to do a combook thing because it's one of the things
- 1:33:46I love. It exposes Also how little I know, because you can never
- 1:33:49know everything. Yes, as well, now that some of the funnest episodes
- 1:33:54to research because the wikis are thick. They are some thick wiki yeahs are

- 1:34:19fandom flashback for April. Oh my god. That was a good one.
- 1:34:23And it was a it was a really good one. It got a bit
- 1:34:26awkward at the end as we got into like the Ezra Miller flash stuff,
- 1:34:30but it was it was very funny throughout. Yeah, and you know,
- 1:34:32we don't get too serious with it. If I had to advertise the phantom
- 1:34:35flashbacks, it's yes, we talk about the news of the month and sometimes
- 1:34:39people like that, but honestly, what it is too, it's just an
- 1:34:41excuse for us to get weird. Yeah, and just be friends in a
- 1:34:45room. So like gate leapers, but you're like, let's structure, please,
- 1:34:47just more you guys. Yeah, that's what the phantom flashbacks are.

- 1:35:05are twice a month. And that's all for just three fifty a months.
- 1:35:09It's the price of a Starbucks coffee, it's the price of a pint of
- 1:35:12beer. Cheaper than eggs nowadays, cheaper than eggs. That's crazy. And
- 1:35:16in the audio version, it'll probably be edited out the part where I got
- 1:35:20frustrated and left my seat. It's just sat on the floor for a couple
- 1:35:25of seconds. But you know what that'll be in the video, Yeah,
- 1:35:28you can you can see that. It's an old time Gateleaper's moment for sure.
- 1:35:32Um, and just before we go, where else can people keep abreast
- 1:35:35of us? What's what we got going on? You like to keep abreast

- 1:35:58If you're a bunch of free loaders, yeah, if you want to.
- 1:36:02Yeah, I guess if you want a little taste of the page,
- 1:36:04little taste, yeah, then check out. It will be slow, it
- 1:36:06will not be current, and that is the cost of free. Yeah that
- 1:36:11I'm trying my best, and those will be the socials for that. No.
- 1:36:13Hey, we're all learning video editing. Yeah we are. And you
- 1:36:16can find me on Tumblr. Yeah, I'll be posting some stuff about muses,
- 1:36:20et cetera. The top ten cats list is coming, um, but
- 1:36:26also links to the episodes and just stuff I find that I like. Yeah,
- 1:36:30just reblog lots fandom stuff I reckon do like it's twenty eleven. Okay,
- 1:36:34I can do that. I did that so successfully. I got a
- 1:36:38husband. Yeah, I should be able to find someone you really love the
- 1:36:43tumb of girls dream as well. Yeah, high, high cheekbone British boys.
- 1:36:49That's yeah crazy. I'm nothing. I'm not as talented as Benedict Cumba
- 1:36:55Batch, but I'm slightly less abrasive. So yeah, honestly, I got
- 1:37:01I looked out dude. That's the jacket, that's the Internet jackpot, and

- 1:37:24up. There was a clue to what it is, but if you're listening
- 1:37:27this far, I will say it is Fallout. We are leaping into the
- 1:37:30Fallout franchise. I hope you don't fall out of our listening ship. You
