- 1:53Speaker 8: What up? Everybody events right, the Sports Governor. I am
- 1:57Speaker 8: live in direct Situation room and we have just finished
- 2:01Speaker 8: a wonderful interview and it's coming up next. We're gonna
- 2:05Speaker 8: get right to it here my main man, thor Neistrom
- 2:09Speaker 8: joining us from scored North, Score North Radio, Score North
- 2:13Speaker 8: Podcast everything you want to call it over at Score North.
- 2:17Speaker 8: The fine folks that used to be fifteen hundred KSTP
- 2:21Speaker 8: and Scordon I just you know, Judd zogat all the
- 2:24Speaker 8: guys over there, thor crew. Great job, great job. So
- 2:30Speaker 8: we did a interview that we just wrapped up, and
- 2:32Speaker 8: we're gonna be talking about the Vikings and it's all
- 2:35Speaker 8: about the quarterback folks.
- 2:36Speaker 6: I mean, what are we gonna do it? That's the question.
- 2:41Speaker 6: What are we gonna do?
- 2:42Speaker 8: If you're a fan of JJ, if you're not a
- 2:44Speaker 8: fan of JJ, We're gonna cover it all here in
- 2:47Speaker 8: the next half hour with our.
- 2:49Speaker 6: Special guests Thorn and Eistrim.
- 2:51Speaker 8: Again, he comes to us from Score North, host of
- 2:54Speaker 8: Thorpe talks Purple, which is on every day over there.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Make sure you check him out. You can follow him
- 3:01Speaker 6: at Score North and you can also follow him at
- 3:12Speaker 6: what happened at thor Ku at thor Ku. That's what
- 3:19Speaker 6: I was looking for.
- 3:20Speaker 8: Sorry about that, all right, So let's get to it, man,
- 3:23Speaker 8: because there's lots to get to here with the Minnesota Vikings.
- 3:26Speaker 8: Especially first off, though, we got to give some mad
- 3:29Speaker 8: props to the former Vikings quarterback Sam Donald. Went out
- 3:33Speaker 8: did his thing, and we talk about Sam in this interview,
- 3:37Speaker 8: but again, Sam did what he had to do.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Was he flashy?
- 3:41Speaker 4: No?
- 3:41Speaker 6: Was he you know, three hundred four hundred yards Sam Donald? No?
- 3:45Speaker 6: He was not.
- 3:46Speaker 8: But guess what he didn't need to be. And honestly,
- 3:50Speaker 8: I get it. It wasn't a great first half in
- 3:52Speaker 8: the Super Bowl. Was in nine nothing at half or
- 3:55Speaker 8: whatever the three field goals? If that game ended nine
- 3:58Speaker 8: to nothing, you think those Seattle Seahawks and their fans
- 4:03Speaker 8: and in the city and the region would give two
- 4:06Speaker 8: shits about it. If they won a Super Bowl nine
- 4:08Speaker 8: to nothing. Now, the rest of sports media would probably
- 4:12Speaker 8: be raking them over to Coles. But they're still Super
- 4:15Speaker 8: Bowl champions. And guess what second half got a much
- 4:18Speaker 8: better game. The Seattle defense man, they are phenomenal. They
- 4:23Speaker 8: were really the MVP and MACHA in my book. So
- 4:26Speaker 8: congratulations to Sam, Congratulations to the rest of the Seahawks,
- 4:30Speaker 8: to the city of Seattle, multi time winner now of
- 4:35Speaker 8: the NFL Super Bowl, And if you're a Vikings fan,
- 4:40Speaker 8: I get it. Tough to watch now, obviously, if Sam
- 4:43Speaker 8: stays here, that doesn't mean that we're going to the super.
- 4:46Speaker 6: Bowl by any means.
- 4:47Speaker 8: But you know, when you get a guy that gets
- 4:50Speaker 8: your fourteen wins and I get it, you know, the
- 4:52Speaker 8: playoffs last year, all that stuff.
- 4:54Speaker 6: But I'm just glad I don't have to make these decisions, man,
- 5:00Speaker 6: I really am.
- 5:01Speaker 8: So all right, let's just get right into our interview
- 5:03Speaker 8: and again the Sports Done Right podcast brought to you
- 5:06Speaker 8: by Seventh Avenue Pizza. You hear me say, get you
- 5:09Speaker 8: some every time I'm on the podcast here and in
- 5:12Speaker 8: the Situation room, you know, the Sports Done Right podcasts,
- 5:17Speaker 8: you know, I listen.
- 5:20Speaker 6: I love Seventh Avenue Pizza. I always have from the
- 5:22Speaker 6: moment I've had it.
- 5:23Speaker 8: I reached out to them on a sponsorship because that's
- 5:26Speaker 8: how much I believe in that pizza.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I get it.
- 5:29Speaker 8: And there's a lot of other really good frozen pizzas
- 5:32Speaker 8: out there nationally and especially in Minnesota.
- 5:34Speaker 6: I ain't gonna lie.
- 5:35Speaker 8: There's a lot a lot of good ones, but I
- 5:37Speaker 8: just think Seventh Avenue has a little bit better ingredients.
- 5:41Speaker 8: I love whatever they're doing with the sausage. I just
- 5:44Speaker 8: think it's a little bit better, people, a little bit better.
- 5:47Speaker 8: All right, let's get to it here. We're gonna take
- 5:51Speaker 8: a very quick break speaking of Seventh Avenue Pizza thirty seconds.
- 5:54Speaker 8: Then we're gonna get back into it and get into
- 5:57Speaker 8: our interview with Thor's right sports governor.
- 6:03Speaker 9: Hey, do you know that Seventh that Pizza is one
- 6:05Speaker 9: of the best frozen pizzas on the market, Well, they

- 6:37Speaker 8: Get you some, all right, everybody, Vince Right Sports Governor
- 6:44Speaker 8: Sports Done Right Podcast very honored to have a very
- 6:49Speaker 8: special VIP guest joining us in the situation room, mister
- 6:52Speaker 8: Thorn and Eistrom Thor talks purple over at Score North.
- 6:57Speaker 6: This man is blowing up all over the Twin City.
- 7:00Speaker 6: And you know, Thor, I'm just honored that we got
- 7:03Speaker 6: you for a few minutes.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Man.
- 7:04Speaker 6: I know everybody wants your time, So thanks for joining us.
- 7:06Speaker 2: No, thanks for having me.
- 7:08Speaker 6: Man.
- 7:08Speaker 10: I haven't been on before, so I was appreciative that
- 7:11Speaker 10: that you invited me on. Good to talk to you,
- 7:13Speaker 10: Good to be here. I'm excited to talk some football with.
- 7:16Speaker 6: You, exactly, all right.
- 7:18Speaker 8: So let's just get right to it, people, because, as
- 7:21Speaker 8: I was just telling Thor literally a few seconds ago,
- 7:23Speaker 8: it's just all about this Vikings quarterback conundrum, snap food,
- 7:28Speaker 8: whatever the hell you want to call it.
- 7:31Speaker 6: But you know, Thor, just real quick, you.
- 7:33Speaker 8: Know, especially obviously you know Seattle now super Bowl champions,
- 7:38Speaker 8: Sam Donald on top of the world, all that stuff,
- 7:41Speaker 8: But just real quick, give us your initial thoughts after
- 7:45Speaker 8: last year when it became known you know, hey, they're
- 7:47Speaker 8: going to JJ route and they let Sam Donald go.
- 7:50Speaker 6: Did you agree with it? Disagree? Kind of in the middle,
- 7:53Speaker 6: what were your thoughts?
- 7:55Speaker 2: No, I agreed with it.
- 7:56Speaker 10: I think ninety nine point well, we'll say ninety nine
- 8:01Speaker 10: percent of people agreed with it humorously. You know, national media,
- 8:05Speaker 10: you look around this past week and it's all the
- 8:08Speaker 10: Vikings are idiots for letting Sam walk. And it's most
- 8:11Speaker 10: the people saying that are the people who one year
- 8:13Speaker 10: ago were like, the Vikings would be idiots to re
- 8:16Speaker 10: sign Sam. I'm looking at you, Steven A. Smith, and
- 8:19Speaker 10: there's there's a whole bunch of other people like that.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 10: I mean, my my opinion was, you have set the
- 8:26Speaker 10: roster you for a couple of years now. You have
- 8:28Speaker 10: set the deck up, uh to take on the rookie
- 8:31Speaker 10: scale quarterback contract and then build up the rest of
- 8:34Speaker 10: the roster, use your free agency money with that. The Vikings,
- 8:37Speaker 10: they obviously had a rough free agency periods as we
- 8:41Speaker 10: come to see during the season, and then you can
- 8:43Speaker 10: pound that with four years of poor drafting obviously, then
- 8:46Speaker 10: Quacy getting fired. The depth issue was acute this past season.
- 8:52Speaker 10: But yeah, I'm very happy for Sam. He found a
- 8:55Speaker 10: great spot, you know. And it's interesting just the way
- 8:58Speaker 10: that things go with the Vikings. They tried their dangdis
- 9:01Speaker 10: to get Sam Donald traded last year at the combine.
- 9:04Speaker 10: They want they wanted to do a tag and trade.
- 9:06Speaker 10: Not one NFL team was interested in that. They shook
- 9:10Speaker 10: every single tree. No one was interested in it. And
- 9:13Speaker 10: so then and then Seattle ended up being the only team,
- 9:16Speaker 10: you know, that was willing to go monetarily to where
- 9:19Speaker 10: they went.
- 9:20Speaker 2: But to do that, they first had to trade Gino Smith.
- 9:22Speaker 10: And of course Mike Silver has since reported that Kevin
- 9:25Speaker 10: O'Connell was instrumental in selling Sam to John Schneider.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Uh sort of during that period.
- 9:30Speaker 10: But you have to love it for Sam, you know,
- 9:32Speaker 10: a guy who had a full circle, you know, and
- 9:35Speaker 10: winning the championship there.
- 9:36Speaker 8: You know, yeah, exactly, because you know, I'll be perfectly honest,
- 9:40Speaker 8: I was not a Sam Donald fan. You know, when
- 9:42Speaker 8: he came out of USC, I thought he was okay.
- 9:45Speaker 8: I didn't think anything great of him. And then obviously,
- 9:48Speaker 8: you know, he goes to the Jets. You know, nobody's
- 9:51Speaker 8: gonna look good with the Jets, it seems like, so,
- 9:53Speaker 8: you know, get the Carolina you know him Baker, kind
- 9:57Speaker 8: of competing in the same room, all that fun stuff,
- 9:59Speaker 8: but it didn't work. There started to change a little
- 10:02Speaker 8: bit once he got to the Niners. Obviously we know
- 10:04Speaker 8: what happened when he gets to Minnesota. So I was, yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 8: I was, I was happy for him. You know, I
- 10:11Speaker 8: was trying to think, Man, if we just now, obviously,
- 10:15Speaker 8: if you keep somebody that doesn't guarantee, like, hey, the
- 10:18Speaker 8: Vikings would have got to the super Bowl with Sam Darnold.
- 10:21Speaker 8: But what I you know, I just, you know, looking
- 10:25Speaker 8: back at it all, I just don't know about JJ
- 10:28Speaker 8: because Michigan never asked him to do anything great back
- 10:32Speaker 8: when he was in college. I think the Vikings might
- 10:34Speaker 8: have got enamored with having a national championship winning quarterback
- 10:39Speaker 8: available to draft and kind of ran from there.
- 10:42Speaker 6: But we will see, we will see, you know.
- 10:46Speaker 8: So here's here's what I wanted to talk to you about,
- 10:48Speaker 8: because I think you just hit an interesting point to him.
- 10:50Speaker 8: We'll get back into the quarterback, but talk about the
- 10:53Speaker 8: drafting here the past few years. You know, when when
- 10:58Speaker 8: Quazy was let go here about a week half ago,
- 11:01Speaker 8: you know, we kind of focused more on the quarterback
- 11:03Speaker 8: and then that situation. But yeah, he didn't really draft
- 11:08Speaker 8: all that great either, and you talked about the depth
- 11:10Speaker 8: on this team and a lot of key positions, so yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 8: just kind of spanned on that for or give me
- 11:15Speaker 8: your thoughts on that.
- 11:17Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean the reason that the Seahawks won the
- 11:19Speaker 10: Super Bowl, it's not the quarterback position, is because of
- 11:21Speaker 10: how well they've drafted the last four years.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Sam was the final touch on that.
- 11:26Speaker 10: But yeah, I mean watch the games, right, I mean, like,
- 11:30Speaker 10: you know, again, he's a complimentary piece. He even talked
- 11:32Speaker 10: about how he is so appreciative to Brock Purdy for
- 11:35Speaker 10: getting into his mind, like be a facilitator, be a
- 11:38Speaker 10: point guard, you know, a quarterback, don't try to take
- 11:41Speaker 10: over games.
- 11:41Speaker 2: That's exactly what Seattle needed him to be.
- 11:44Speaker 10: Like in the game against the Patriots, he wasn't throwing
- 11:46Speaker 10: the ball the best, But in that game, what did
- 11:48Speaker 10: they need him to do? Not turn the ball over,
- 11:50Speaker 10: not take debilitating sacks? What was he good at not
- 11:53Speaker 10: turning the ball over in that game? And then he
- 11:56Speaker 10: was very nifty at avoiding the first rusher that he
- 12:00Speaker 10: had to do to you know, to avoid putting Seattle
- 12:02Speaker 10: in second and seventeen type situations and when you're running
- 12:06Speaker 10: the ball as well as Seattle was in that game
- 12:08Speaker 10: where Kenneth Walker was just going nuts, you know. And
- 12:11Speaker 10: it's the organization Seattle, the way that they built it up.
- 12:15Speaker 10: Number one DVOA defense this past year, Number two special
- 12:19Speaker 10: teams and obviously they can run the ball. And the
- 12:22Speaker 10: advancements that Sam's made with his game was very close
- 12:25Speaker 10: to a long touchdown passer too, you know, just came
- 12:27Speaker 10: a little bit short in the Super Bowl. This is
- 12:29Speaker 10: nothing to take away from Sam Sam. Sam's one of
- 12:33Speaker 10: the you know, fifteen best quarterbacks walking the earth right now,
- 12:36Speaker 10: right Like it's not, you know, in any way to
- 12:39Speaker 10: disparage him, and like it's the full circle thing and
- 12:42Speaker 10: everything with his story is great. But yeah, that that
- 12:44Speaker 10: Seattle team, it was built up through the draft and
- 12:47Speaker 10: you start in twenty twenty two, you're coming off with
- 12:49Speaker 10: the Russell Wilson trade, which John Schneider was the GM
- 12:53Speaker 10: for Seattle, was blast for in the moment, but he
- 12:56Speaker 10: ends up getting multiple first round picks in that. You
- 12:59Speaker 10: turn around, you turn that into Charles Cross, Devin Witherspoon,
- 13:04Speaker 10: Kenneth Walker, and yeah, Mafe was one of the guys too.
- 13:09Speaker 10: That they got with the four picks that they got
- 13:11Speaker 10: from the bron you know, the Broncos in that trade
- 13:14Speaker 10: or whatever. But from twenty twenty two through this past season,
- 13:18Speaker 10: that Seattle's just been slaughtering every draft I went through
- 13:21Speaker 10: and I looked at the career value. There's a metric
- 13:24Speaker 10: career weighted value and Seattle, you look at the past
- 13:27Speaker 10: four drafts comparison to the Vikings, it's more than double
- 13:31Speaker 10: the career value that they have gotten from the prospects
- 13:35Speaker 10: just out of those last four classes. And the really
- 13:38Speaker 10: sick thing about the Vikings is meager output. In that is,
- 13:43Speaker 10: one quarter of the Vikings's w a V accounting for
- 13:47Speaker 10: the last four classes comes from ed Ingram and Videri
- 13:51Speaker 10: and Lowe. Much of it accrued with other teams, right,
- 13:55Speaker 10: I mean Ingram this past season, all of a sudden, voila.
- 13:58Speaker 10: He gets out of Minnesota and he's good. Right and
- 14:01Speaker 10: then lo, when he got out of here, he could
- 14:03Speaker 10: actually get on the field for New England.
- 14:05Speaker 2: So you have the issues with the drafting.
- 14:07Speaker 10: You could argue that it's development as well, but that's
- 14:10Speaker 10: that's got to get fixed here. It's the thing that
- 14:12Speaker 10: Seattle used to build up their juggernaut.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Ross.
- 14:16Speaker 8: No, exactly, very very well stated there. So let's let's
- 14:21Speaker 8: jump on the culture real quick. Koc had a lot
- 14:25Speaker 8: of love here the past few years, the quarterback whisper
- 14:27Speaker 8: all that stuff. Now past couple of seasons, you know,
- 14:32Speaker 8: finally kind of a little hiccup in the road, so
- 14:35Speaker 8: to speak here with him and kind of you know,
- 14:37Speaker 8: the public and whatnot. Give me your analysis here on
- 14:41Speaker 8: where we are with Koc. Now, I'm not saying, you know,
- 14:44Speaker 8: he needs to be fired anything like that. A couple
- 14:46Speaker 8: yahoo's out there we're calling for his job for some reason.
- 14:50Speaker 6: But you know, if we have another bad year next
- 14:54Speaker 6: year or something, well we'll revisit.
- 14:56Speaker 8: But thor, give me your thoughts on our head coach,
- 14:59Speaker 8: and exactly he is right now in your thoughts in
- 15:02Speaker 8: this organization.
- 15:04Speaker 2: He's coming off a bad year. I mean, it just
- 15:07Speaker 2: it just is what it is. You know.
- 15:10Speaker 10: People want to talk about the quarterback thing. O'Connell was
- 15:12Speaker 10: obviously the guy that that hand picked McCarthy developed him,
- 15:15Speaker 10: call his plays, But I'm talking even beyond the quarterback position,
- 15:20Speaker 10: the entire offense, which during his tenure has been rather mediocre.
- 15:24Speaker 10: The Vikings' offense here at the past four years. You
- 15:27Speaker 10: look at it in the aggregate, I think it's number
- 15:29Speaker 10: eighteen epa per play over the last four years in total. Yeah,
- 15:33Speaker 10: which was the same finish that Ed Donna Tell's defense
- 15:36Speaker 10: had in twenty twenty two that got him fired. Now,
- 15:39Speaker 10: you know, obviously the Vikings defense been really good since then.
- 15:43Speaker 10: That helped you get into the playoffs. A couple of times.
- 15:46Speaker 10: Are the Vikings a player or two away right now
- 15:48Speaker 10: from being able to make a run.
- 15:51Speaker 2: In the playoffs.
- 15:52Speaker 10: It's been a while since they've won a playoff game, right,
- 15:56Speaker 10: So yeah, as far as O'Connell himself can can he
- 16:00Speaker 10: can he get back to where he was? Sure, But
- 16:02Speaker 10: like now we're you're trying to win in a different way.
- 16:05Speaker 10: And I think what this past year proved in the
- 16:08Speaker 10: struggles a Kevin O'Connell, the intractability is something that we
- 16:11Speaker 10: hadn't seen before with the with the game plans, I
- 16:16Speaker 10: think in particular, but then you saw some just intractable
- 16:19Speaker 10: thinking as well when he was up in front of
- 16:20Speaker 10: the media. I would like to see more adjustments, more
- 16:26Speaker 10: more tailoring your game plan and your philosophy to the
- 16:29Speaker 10: personnel on hand, Like like his friend Sean McVay. Right,
- 16:34Speaker 10: Sean McVay, when he started off with the Rams, it
- 16:36Speaker 10: was a lot of high flying uh.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Three wide receivers, four wide receivers.
- 16:41Speaker 10: And then now with the way that defenses have changed,
- 16:45Speaker 10: McVeigh and the Rams use as much two and three
- 16:48Speaker 10: tight ends as anyone in the NFL. It's just been
- 16:51Speaker 10: a total philosophy change. But he's responding to the tide
- 16:54Speaker 10: of of the way the defenses are playing them right circumstantially,
- 17:00Speaker 10: Uh yeah, molding your strategy around that, Whereas it seems
- 17:03Speaker 10: like O'Connell every year, it's it's got to be my way,
- 17:06Speaker 10: got to be my way, gotta be more. It's it's
- 17:08Speaker 10: tough to do that when you're not changing your game plans,
- 17:10Speaker 10: because it makes you easier to game plan against as well.
- 17:13Speaker 10: You know, there's a thing in baseball of you know,
- 17:15Speaker 10: the first time through a lineup, but then your second
- 17:17Speaker 10: and third time through when they've seen you, they've seen
- 17:19Speaker 10: your stuff. Now, when when when hitters start to get
- 17:22Speaker 10: a beat on what's coming and you don't switch up
- 17:25Speaker 10: the sequencing and you have the same three pitches or
- 17:28Speaker 10: you O'Connell's case, maybe you could argue too.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Adapting needs to happen there and and I hope it does.
- 17:37Speaker 6: Ladies and gentlemen.
- 17:37Speaker 8: Thornnstrom joining us here on the Sports Done Right podcast,
- 17:41Speaker 8: and you see why I wanted them on. I mean,
- 17:42Speaker 8: nobody can dis set this team quite like big Thorn
- 17:46Speaker 8: and Eistrom can.
- 17:47Speaker 6: So Thorn, let me ask you this general manager, you
- 17:53Speaker 6: know we gotta gotta bring one in.
- 17:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I all of a sudden, so many moving parts
- 17:57Speaker 8: with this organization here this offseason.
- 18:00Speaker 6: What do you want to see in our next GM.
- 18:02Speaker 8: What's kind of the stereotype you're looking for or the
- 18:06Speaker 8: prototype I think is maybe the better word.
- 18:09Speaker 10: My biggest thing for it would be that it is
- 18:13Speaker 10: this is outside of even a trait of that guy,
- 18:16Speaker 10: which I know is what you're asking, But I wanted
- 18:18Speaker 10: to be a guy when he is hired where there
- 18:21Speaker 10: is no if ins or butts about it. This is
- 18:25Speaker 10: the guy that is making the personnel decisions. Every successful one,
- 18:30Speaker 10: it's it's because of him. Everyone that fails is on him.
- 18:35Speaker 10: This stuff that the Viking, this nonsense with the triangle
- 18:38Speaker 10: of authority and the collaboration and.
- 18:40Speaker 2: All this stuff. It always sounds good when they afforded
- 18:44Speaker 2: to the public.
- 18:45Speaker 10: We have now had the second administration that we've seen
- 18:48Speaker 10: here just recently, where the GM and the coach are
- 18:52Speaker 10: so at odds that you have to blow it up
- 18:55Speaker 10: right and.
- 18:55Speaker 2: In this case the GM goes.
- 18:57Speaker 10: The last case, it was both Spielman getting it the
- 19:00Speaker 10: same time as zimmer But you see the issues with
- 19:03Speaker 10: this philosophy.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And you know, the way that people can kind of
- 19:07Speaker 2: think about.
- 19:08Speaker 10: This is it's like, it's great in theory to you know,
- 19:11Speaker 10: open office concept plan and every department there's no barrier
- 19:15Speaker 10: between it and it's free communication and we're going to
- 19:18Speaker 10: come to.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Every decision collaboratively.
- 19:21Speaker 10: It sounds great in theory, but what ends up happening
- 19:25Speaker 10: is in every one off transaction you have a bunch
- 19:28Speaker 10: of different voices that are jocking for position to make
- 19:31Speaker 10: that ultimate decision.
- 19:33Speaker 2: The people who end up being.
- 19:34Speaker 10: Right if they're then proven wrong on that now all
- 19:37Speaker 10: of a sudden, the people that lost out on the
- 19:39Speaker 10: previous one, they now have more of a stick in
- 19:42Speaker 10: the next argument. You start having finger pointing and no,
- 19:45Speaker 10: you you were the guy that was pushing for that
- 19:47Speaker 10: one that didn't work out, and and all of a
- 19:49Speaker 10: sudden it becomes this this big finger pointing thing and
- 19:52Speaker 10: fight for uh say in the room and who has
- 19:54Speaker 10: the loudest voice, and all that's different. It just doesn't work.
- 19:57Speaker 10: And now it is that has been proven out. This
- 20:00Speaker 10: is not a coach problem. This is not a general
- 20:03Speaker 10: manager problem. This is a Wilf problem. There's only one
- 20:06Speaker 10: group of folks that can fix this one. It's the
- 20:08Speaker 10: same one that have allowed that culture seem to prefer
- 20:11Speaker 10: it for whatever reason they.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Have for that.
- 20:14Speaker 10: What needs to happen now is the next guy you
- 20:16Speaker 10: bring in there, this is the dude who's in charge
- 20:18Speaker 10: of that, And when the team goes on the field,
- 20:21Speaker 10: that's O'Connell.
- 20:22Speaker 2: He's in charge of that.
- 20:23Speaker 10: But it has to be clearly defined and delineated who
- 20:27Speaker 10: is in charge of what so that there can be
- 20:29Speaker 10: accountability when things don't go well. Because the last administration,
- 20:34Speaker 10: what we had the past four years, you could not
- 20:36Speaker 10: put a finger on where the decisions that didn't go right,
- 20:40Speaker 10: where they were coming from right. And then you have
- 20:42Speaker 10: the thing of okay, well, now we can get Quacy
- 20:44Speaker 10: out and he'll be the scapegoat for all of it.
- 20:46Speaker 2: And it's like that that's not actually how it went down.
- 20:48Speaker 8: No, exactly and you know the way that they also,
- 20:52Speaker 8: you know, I mean they I don't know whose idea
- 20:54Speaker 8: was to make a big deal of the story about
- 20:56Speaker 8: him on the paternity lead for you know, two weeks
- 20:58Speaker 8: after his child was born in the or kind of
- 21:01Speaker 8: working you know, working remotely so to speak there and
- 21:04Speaker 8: not being available you know, in house, you know, I
- 21:08Speaker 8: mean the Viking signed off on that, you know, I mean,
- 21:10Speaker 8: you know they're sitting here, whoever lead that story.
- 21:13Speaker 6: But it's like, well, the organization gave them the opportunity
- 21:16Speaker 6: to do to do that, so why wouldn't he.
- 21:19Speaker 2: But yeah, one hundred percent.
- 21:21Speaker 10: And and my whole thing with that, you know, because
- 21:23Speaker 10: because then it's like, well, well maybe there weren't people
- 21:25Speaker 10: in the organization saying it right then, that's it was
- 21:28Speaker 10: just an open secret, which is true. Uh, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 10: it was an open secret. And so that's how it
- 21:32Speaker 10: got into some of the stories. Well, well that that's fine.
- 21:36Speaker 10: You know, it's like because that's been offered as sort
- 21:38Speaker 10: of a defense of the people that are still in
- 21:40Speaker 10: the building, like they weren't speaking out of school right then,
- 21:42Speaker 10: Like that was just sort of a you know, but
- 21:45Speaker 10: but my whole thing is it's been reported that it's
- 21:48Speaker 10: like this league wide joke. And I can tell folks
- 21:51Speaker 10: out there that all the media people around here knew
- 21:53Speaker 10: about this because it was just spoken about like that.
- 21:57Speaker 10: My whole point is going back to the culture thing.
- 22:00Speaker 10: If you have a good culture, that is that thing
- 22:03Speaker 10: of quasy going out for two weeks. If you think
- 22:06Speaker 10: that that is bad enough, where Okay, this is indicative.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Of the way he does his job.
- 22:11Speaker 10: Fire him then, right, or or it's not a thing
- 22:16Speaker 10: and when he comes back it's over the fact that
- 22:19Speaker 10: it gets around the league. Right, that's indicative of you
- 22:23Speaker 10: talking your crap about him out of school, which by
- 22:26Speaker 10: this is to me more troubling that it goes back years.
- 22:29Speaker 10: So to me, it doesn't matter if one of the
- 22:31Speaker 10: coaches in you know, in that day or the day
- 22:35Speaker 10: after with one of their media content. It doesn't matter.
- 22:37Speaker 10: He'll let the cat out of the bag long before that.
- 22:40Speaker 10: And why did you do it in order to cut
- 22:42Speaker 10: him down at the knee? His influence and the respect
- 22:44Speaker 10: level that he had by the end there, crazy He
- 22:47Speaker 10: wasn't involved in a lot of transactions, right, He didn't
- 22:50Speaker 10: finish out the Adam DeLand trade. He didn't want to
- 22:52Speaker 10: do the Adam Delen trade, the price got above where
- 22:55Speaker 10: he was comfortable. Okay, you can't do it. Send in
- 22:58Speaker 10: rob B. He'll get that thing done. That's how that
- 23:00Speaker 10: trade got done, did Jonathan Allen negotiations were like that.
- 23:03Speaker 10: And it's not just that, right the coaches, and this
- 23:06Speaker 10: has been widely reported the draft decisions right arm wrestling
- 23:11Speaker 10: for those and they've sort of commenteered the draft process.
- 23:14Speaker 10: All of which is to say, I'm not arguing the
- 23:16Speaker 10: quazy deserved to keep his job, Like like, do I
- 23:19Speaker 10: think he was great at it?
- 23:21Speaker 2: No, he was definitely feckless by the end. So I
- 23:23Speaker 2: definitely get it.
- 23:25Speaker 10: But if you're going to put all that stuff on
- 23:27Speaker 10: and and this stuff is bad enough that someone has
- 23:29Speaker 10: to go, you almost need to clean out all the
- 23:31Speaker 10: house or else.
- 23:31Speaker 6: None of it well said, well said, all right, so
- 23:35Speaker 6: let's do this.
- 23:36Speaker 8: We got a few just a few more minutes here
- 23:38Speaker 8: with thor and excuse me from looking to the sides.
- 23:40Speaker 8: I got my trust the iPad over here, but Vikings
- 23:44Speaker 8: Territory dot Com. I used to do some work over
- 23:46Speaker 8: at Purple PTSD, so I like checking in with my
- 23:48Speaker 8: old fellas here article. Let me make sure I'm just
- 23:52Speaker 8: giving people proper credit. Dustin Baker article here, yeah and
- 23:57Speaker 8: good old dust yep yep.
- 24:00Speaker 6: And here's the thing.
- 24:01Speaker 8: He's got a list of about ge'z twenty twenty five
- 24:07Speaker 8: names for the Vikings next quarterback, starting with Aaron Rodgers.
- 24:11Speaker 8: I'm not going to go through the mall, but just
- 24:13Speaker 8: to give you an idea, Gardner Minshew's on the list,
- 24:18Speaker 8: Canny pick It, Joe flack O, Malik Willis, who's kind
- 24:21Speaker 8: of you know, his stock rising after the playoffs here,
- 24:26Speaker 8: Russell Wilson's still out there. He even put Teddy Bridgewater
- 24:29Speaker 8: on the list, Tyrod Taylor, Zach Wilson, and you know
- 24:33Speaker 8: everybody else that's available as well. Who do you want
- 24:38Speaker 8: to see in here? And do you want them to
- 24:41Speaker 8: come in? Because there's two scenarios people are talking about,
- 24:46Speaker 8: let's sign a quarterback that's going to be the solid
- 24:48Speaker 8: number two and if JJ gets injured again, he can
- 24:51Speaker 8: come right in and play and blah blah blah blah blah.
- 24:54Speaker 8: Or do we want a true quarterback competition. We're gonna
- 24:58Speaker 8: sign somebody and effort. Whoever wins this job wins this job,
- 25:02Speaker 8: and that's who we're rolling with. What kind of scenario.
- 25:06Speaker 8: Would you like to see and throw out a few
- 25:08Speaker 8: names that you wouldn't mind seeing the.
- 25:09Speaker 10: Purple You have to get a better insurance policy, right,
- 25:13Speaker 10: I mean everyone knows on the biggest JJ bobo out there.
- 25:16Speaker 10: But it's true, he's played ten games in two seasons, right,
- 25:20Speaker 10: and the durability concerns are real there. It's a guy
- 25:23Speaker 10: that didn't miss games in college, didn't miss him in
- 25:27Speaker 10: high school. Right, he was durable up till now. But
- 25:30Speaker 10: obviously with the data points you have here, and that's
- 25:33Speaker 10: the thing that sunk last season, right, if you had
- 25:35Speaker 10: Daniel Jones, if he could have gotten that done, if
- 25:37Speaker 10: he could have gotten done one done for a better
- 25:39Speaker 10: backup quarterback, you probably win the game that you needed
- 25:43Speaker 10: to get into the playoffs there, right, Hey, and real quick.
- 25:45Speaker 6: Can I stop you since you mentioned Daniel Jones. Yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 6: it's on the list. His name is on the list.
- 25:51Speaker 8: And obviously with him getting injured and the little quarterback reshuffled,
- 25:54Speaker 8: there might be an opportunity to maybe look at bringing
- 25:58Speaker 8: them back.
- 25:59Speaker 10: I don't know, so I think the Colts are going
- 26:02Speaker 10: to resign him, like they really like Daniel Jones, And
- 26:05Speaker 10: the one issue with that thinking about it. For what
- 26:07Speaker 10: the Vikings are looking for is you wouldn't get the
- 26:10Speaker 10: guy in camp to you know, quote unquote push JJ
- 26:13Speaker 10: or compete with him or however you want to say it.
- 26:15Speaker 10: And then also at the beginning of the season, like
- 26:17Speaker 10: let's say that you are trepidacious about JJ and camp,
- 26:21Speaker 10: right Like if you so, he's not a guy that
- 26:24Speaker 10: would be active at that point.
- 26:25Speaker 2: It wouldn't be until later in the season.
- 26:28Speaker 10: Obviously, I advocate for McCarthy starting next year, but I
- 26:32Speaker 10: think it's just as obvious or just as in my opinion,
- 26:35Speaker 10: just as common sense, you have to get the better
- 26:36Speaker 10: backup quarterback.
- 26:37Speaker 2: They should And Daniel Jones, you know, it was what
- 26:40Speaker 2: it was.
- 26:41Speaker 10: He knew that he was gonna have a better shot
- 26:42Speaker 10: to start with Indianapolis, and then he rebuilt his value
- 26:45Speaker 10: real quick, like he made a good business decision. But yeah,
- 26:48Speaker 10: the Vikings have to do a better job with that
- 26:50Speaker 10: this offseason. For me, I would want the guy where
- 26:53Speaker 10: it can be he's it's it's legitimate, you know, whether
- 26:57Speaker 10: again competition or however you want to see it in camp,
- 27:00Speaker 10: but someone and and so number one number two where
- 27:04Speaker 10: they wouldn't embarrass themselves on the field that they're they're
- 27:06Speaker 10: going to help out, you know, you know, if and
- 27:08Speaker 10: when they are on the field, they're not gonna embarrass themselves.
- 27:11Speaker 10: And the number three for me, the last criteria would
- 27:14Speaker 10: be someone that I could envision being a good teammate
- 27:18Speaker 10: as a backup quarterback if it goes down that way.
- 27:21Speaker 10: So that's why for me number one, and you know,
- 27:24Speaker 10: I can't believe I think this as well, it's kirkoh oh.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Kirko is the best guy that all the different things.
- 27:31Speaker 6: That was my next question, man, that was my next question.
- 27:35Speaker 10: It is he showed and I wouldn't have thought this before.
- 27:38Speaker 10: He proved things to me by not playing. He proved
- 27:41Speaker 10: to me I can be a good teammate and a
- 27:43Speaker 10: good influence when the organization goes with the younger guy.
- 27:47Speaker 2: And not only that, but I will be ready to
- 27:49Speaker 2: go the.
- 27:50Speaker 10: Second that that guy you know, injured taking off the whatever,
- 27:54Speaker 10: when I have to go in, I'm ready to go.
- 27:56Speaker 2: He proved that to me this past season.
- 27:59Speaker 10: I know it wasn't fun for him being in Atlanta,
- 28:01Speaker 10: but the fact that he was still the really good
- 28:04Speaker 10: soldier and everything like that.
- 28:05Speaker 2: So you prove that to me.
- 28:06Speaker 10: He showed on the field down the stretch last season
- 28:09Speaker 10: that he can still play.
- 28:11Speaker 2: It's a good teammate guy.
- 28:12Speaker 10: It's a guy that knows the Kevin O'Connell system, so
- 28:15Speaker 10: he checks a lot of boxes. And it shouldn't be
- 28:18Speaker 10: too expensive to too expensive right like you would think
- 28:21Speaker 10: it would.
- 28:22Speaker 6: Made his money. He'd be willing to take, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 6: a lower salary at this point of his career.
- 28:29Speaker 10: And it's a guy who I can tell you is
- 28:32Speaker 10: it's not one hundred percent that Cousins plays next year.
- 28:34Speaker 10: He is considering the TV thing, which obviously is retirement
- 28:38Speaker 10: in this case, and then starting the career. He'll be
- 28:41Speaker 10: fabulous and you know in the booth, but you think
- 28:44Speaker 10: about if he decides to play one more year, what
- 28:46Speaker 10: would that circumstance look like. He ain't going back to Atlanta,
- 28:49Speaker 10: can promise you that he didn't like it there. But
- 28:51Speaker 10: you look around, like at the other organizations. I do
- 28:55Speaker 10: think that there will be opportunities out there because of
- 28:58Speaker 10: how many teams need quarterbacks and in the draft you
- 29:00Speaker 10: only have one guy that can play right away. In
- 29:02Speaker 10: free agency, as you see, there's very few. You have
- 29:04Speaker 10: Malik Willis, You're I mean Daniel Jones a viable one,
- 29:07Speaker 10: but he hurt, right, Like, you just have so a
- 29:10Speaker 10: few and you have all these teams that need quarterbacks.
- 29:13Speaker 10: So it is certainly theoretically possible that there will be
- 29:15Speaker 10: a situation that either offers Kirk Moore year one money
- 29:20Speaker 10: next season and or could promise him the starting job,
- 29:24Speaker 10: at least initially. Then you know, then the Vikings could
- 29:27Speaker 10: because they're not going to do that with him. But
- 29:29Speaker 10: I do think there's still a shot that he might
- 29:32Speaker 10: pick Minnesota anyway if he wants to play the one
- 29:35Speaker 10: more season, because you think about some of the situations
- 29:37Speaker 10: where it could be like, all right, dude, we'll give
- 29:40Speaker 10: you a twenty four million next year and guarantee you're
- 29:43Speaker 10: the Week one starter, and you think, just logically, okay,
- 29:46Speaker 10: he probably but if it's a situation like the Jets,
- 29:49Speaker 10: it's a situation like the Browns, ye right, why in
- 29:52Speaker 10: his last season a guy who you can tell that
- 29:55Speaker 10: Kirk Cousins has feelings and stuff, but he's viewed as
- 29:58Speaker 10: a mercenary. There is not one fan base that like
- 30:01Speaker 10: owns Kirk Cousins because the way his career went down,
- 30:03Speaker 10: right like the Washington left him in free agency, the
- 30:06Speaker 10: way it ended in Minnesota Atlanta.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Obviously that thing was doomed from the start.
- 30:11Speaker 10: If you go back to Minnesota though, and play it
- 30:13Speaker 10: out for one last season, whether you get on the
- 30:15Speaker 10: field and you have a good season or whether you're
- 30:17Speaker 10: just a really good teammate, you're gonna get readopted by Minnesota.
- 30:21Speaker 2: We know Minnesota, don't events.
- 30:23Speaker 8: Yeah, we do, and we that's kind of my problem
- 30:25Speaker 8: with Minnesota at times. Yeah, come on back, you're one
- 30:28Speaker 8: back and this.
- 30:29Speaker 10: And that, I hear you, and send them off into
- 30:31Speaker 10: retirement where you go into the TV booth and there's
- 30:34Speaker 10: really good feelings and vibes with that. I actually think
- 30:37Speaker 10: someone like Kirk Cousins would put a value on that.
- 30:39Speaker 10: I don't know how much you would value that against
- 30:41Speaker 10: some of these other things, but I do think that's
- 30:43Speaker 10: the best option, and I absolutely think it's in play.
- 30:47Speaker 6: Thor.
- 30:49Speaker 8: You know, if you're a Kirk Cousins fan out there,
- 30:51Speaker 8: you just heard, you know, a five star case for
- 30:53Speaker 8: bringing them back, because you know, personally, I'm I'm like,
- 30:57Speaker 8: you know, we we've done it. We've you know, we
- 31:00Speaker 8: did what we did with Kurt, and can only get
- 31:02Speaker 8: so far. Blah blah blah, blah, you make a very
- 31:05Speaker 8: valid case. I mean, I'm gonna be honest with you
- 31:07Speaker 8: make a valid case because honestly, there's you know, it's
- 31:11Speaker 8: just a bunch of question marks out there all the
- 31:13Speaker 8: way around. And like you said, I think the good
- 31:16Speaker 8: point that you bring up is him being a good teammate.
- 31:19Speaker 8: And that's where even I as as you were talking there,
- 31:22Speaker 8: I started kind of thinking about it myself and being like, yeah,
- 31:25Speaker 8: that is a very good point because it's such a
- 31:27Speaker 8: you know, the it's the diva position on the football team,
- 31:30Speaker 8: and yeah, you don't want to get somebody in there
- 31:32Speaker 8: who is not you know, a team player, and then
- 31:35Speaker 8: may even be sabotaging JJ or something like that.
- 31:38Speaker 10: So you know, and however that decision goes like, you know,
- 31:42Speaker 10: if it's JJ and then there's the veteran, and it's
- 31:45Speaker 10: it's forwarded as a camp competition.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 31:47Speaker 10: The point when you're going to have to announce to
- 31:49Speaker 10: the week one starter is the media. Then they're going
- 31:51Speaker 10: to do what they've been doing the vikings last couple
- 31:53Speaker 10: of months and trying to coax them to criticize their teammates,
- 31:56Speaker 10: you know, and you have to have a guy that's
- 31:58Speaker 10: going to be cool with it, right, that's going to
- 32:00Speaker 10: be a good soldier if that's the way that it
- 32:02Speaker 10: ends up going down. And we know that that's going
- 32:04Speaker 10: to be the case of Cousins because we've already seen it, right,
- 32:08Speaker 10: So I mean that just sort of is what it is.
- 32:10Speaker 10: And I know that there's people out out there that
- 32:11Speaker 10: are like, you know, both, I never want to see
- 32:14Speaker 10: Cousins again.
- 32:15Speaker 2: I get that.
- 32:16Speaker 10: And I know that there's also people out there that
- 32:18Speaker 10: are like, I think Jaj McCarthy's a bus Now. I
- 32:22Speaker 10: understand maybe that less, you know, but I get it.
- 32:25Speaker 10: And you're like, I don't want either of those two guys.
- 32:27Speaker 10: I want to clean house. What I would tell those
- 32:30Speaker 10: folks is forget the names. Forget the names on both
- 32:35Speaker 10: of them. That just the profile of what Cousins is,
- 32:38Speaker 10: what he sort of represents as the one year stopgap thing,
- 32:43Speaker 10: where then you have.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Two quarterbacks that can play right that thing.
- 32:47Speaker 10: And then you look at this situation that we're in
- 32:51Speaker 10: right now in time where the twenty twenty seven NFL Draft,
- 32:55Speaker 10: the quarterback class is going to be one of the
- 32:56Speaker 10: best ones we've seen for the last twenty five years.
- 32:59Speaker 2: In my opinion, there's already four first round Locke quarterbacks
- 33:02Speaker 2: in that class.
- 33:03Speaker 10: That's Arch Manning, Dante Moore, Leonora Sellers, and Julian Saying,
- 33:08Speaker 10: and you have a list of like eight guys behind
- 33:11Speaker 10: that that have a shot to go in for the
- 33:13Speaker 10: first round.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:15Speaker 10: The last stat quarterback class of twenty twenty, the one
- 33:19Speaker 10: with Nix and McCarthy and Jade and Daniels and Caleb
- 33:22Speaker 10: and everything, he had six of twelve, right, and then
- 33:25Speaker 10: there was a break until the fourth round. This class
- 33:28Speaker 10: that's coming up here a year from April and twenty
- 33:32Speaker 10: twenty seven is definitely going to compete with that in
- 33:35Speaker 10: terms of qualitatively and just if you're a Vikings fan
- 33:40Speaker 10: thinking this through of how they have set up the
- 33:41Speaker 10: books and everything and what they're looking for in next
- 33:44Speaker 10: year's team, but then also in the future, I think
- 33:47Speaker 10: again it's just common sense of playing the thing out
- 33:51Speaker 10: for one more season. And if you think McCarthy stinks
- 33:54Speaker 10: out there, you think he's a bust, great play him
- 33:58Speaker 10: and work your way to the top of the twenty
- 33:59Speaker 10: twenty seven board. Or if, like myself, you think the
- 34:02Speaker 10: JJ is going to be a star, why would you
- 34:04Speaker 10: pull the plug early? It's common sense on both sides
- 34:07Speaker 10: of it to see it. And after year three is
- 34:11Speaker 10: when you have to know with the rookie, the first
- 34:14Speaker 10: round rookies, because that's when you have to make the
- 34:17Speaker 10: decision on the fifth year option is leading into the
- 34:19Speaker 10: fourth year, so that's when you need your data right,
- 34:22Speaker 10: So you have to see mccarthyel this year to know
- 34:25Speaker 10: whether you want to do that, because if you don't know,
- 34:27Speaker 10: that means that you're not going to do it, then
- 34:29Speaker 10: the asset has no value that's one.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Year from now if that's what it ends up being.
- 34:34Speaker 10: Right, So to me, this is just sort of common sense,
- 34:36Speaker 10: And again I think it's a vital importance this offseason,
- 34:39Speaker 10: right near the top of the needs list, go out
- 34:42Speaker 10: and get another quarterback that you feel comfortable playing, that
- 34:45Speaker 10: can fit all these different things.
- 34:46Speaker 2: But you probably don't want the multi year guy.
- 34:48Speaker 10: You don't have a bunch of money to spend, and
- 34:51Speaker 10: you need a guy that potentially could be cool holding
- 34:54Speaker 10: the clipboard there.
- 34:55Speaker 2: So for all those reasons, I think, cousins.
- 34:58Speaker 6: There you go.
- 34:59Speaker 8: Well, perfect spot to end it on man Thor, thank
