- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, it's Alex Garrett. One Lug Up Alex and we
- 0:06Speaker 1: are in twenty twenty six, which means one Lug Up
- 0:09Speaker 1: Alex in twenty twenty six.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Tune in.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We've just published over fifteen hundred episodes in twelve years,
- 0:15Speaker 1: with more toicomb thanks to you out there listening. One
- 0:18Speaker 1: Leg Up Alex in twenty twenty six. All right, well,
- 0:22Speaker 1: you can get your Cody Bellinger Shirsey right now at
- 0:25Speaker 1: Fanatics through my partner link at Fanatics, and that's how
- 0:30Speaker 1: I want to kick off today's One Leg Up with
- 0:32Speaker 1: Alex Garrett. He is signed, sealed and delivered I think
- 0:36Speaker 1: for like five years here if I'm not mistaken. So
- 0:39Speaker 1: it's gonna have some back in the city. It's gonna
- 0:43Speaker 1: have belly bombs back for another few years, and you
- 0:46Speaker 1: can get my link. But combine that with the other
- 0:49Speaker 1: bigger better news today. Well, on one Leg Up Alex Sports,
- 0:54Speaker 1: I see who was in I believe New York City today.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Heis Mendoza himself, Fernando Mendoza. Lou, where was my invite
- 1:01Speaker 1: to that? I wanted to meet Fernando.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I want to meet husband, doz, where's my invite Luzmnello.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Alex, I'm shocked. I thought you would have a picture
- 1:07Speaker 3: with him by now.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Right, he just wanted two days ago and yesterday.
- 1:12Speaker 1: But hey, you know me, I'll find them somewhere some ways,
- 1:15Speaker 1: so there is.
- 1:16Speaker 3: No doubt in my mind that you will send me
- 1:18Speaker 3: a picture with Unfortunately, it looks like, oh, Las Vegas
- 1:23Speaker 3: ready to quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I do want to start there, because this kid, beyond
- 1:29Speaker 1: the athleticism, he's got such an indomitable spirit, Like I
- 1:35Speaker 1: think I called him jovial the other day, and I
- 1:38Speaker 1: do believe that, and.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I don't want the Raiders to ruin that. Like that's
- 1:44Speaker 2: I'm worried.
- 1:44Speaker 1: They're gonna dampen his spirits because of how crap they've
- 1:48Speaker 1: been run.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Maybe Tom Brady turns around, though.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Well again, they are a franchise with iconic history, so
- 1:56Speaker 3: it's not like he's going to the Jacksonville Jaguars or
- 1:59Speaker 3: the the Caroline the Panthers. But right now, the Radars
- 2:03Speaker 3: are in toll disarray. I mean, looked like Pete Carroll
- 2:07Speaker 3: would straighten them out. He didn't, and they got rid
- 2:10Speaker 3: of him after one year. So but Mendoz is the
- 2:12Speaker 3: real deal. What he did on Monday night, he kind
- 2:15Speaker 3: of willed them to victory. You know, he didn't have
- 2:19Speaker 3: one of his great, great offensive nights, but that fourth down,
- 2:23Speaker 3: fifteen yard run, and Alex I'm sitting here watching the game, saying,
- 2:27Speaker 3: you got to keep the field goal, he got to
- 2:29Speaker 3: get the three points, go up six. But they roll
- 2:32Speaker 3: the dice and it looked like the kid wasn't gonna
- 2:34Speaker 3: get into the end zone that those last three yards.
- 2:37Speaker 3: But he willed himself in the end zone. And don't
- 2:42Speaker 3: don't kid yourself. That kind of effort, especially when it
- 2:48Speaker 3: comes from the leader of your team, just resonates throughout
- 2:52Speaker 3: the rest of the roster, throughout the rest of the game.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Oh.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I think his energy resident throughout the whole game. I mean,
- 2:57Speaker 1: especially right down to that interception to seal it for
- 3:00Speaker 1: Indiana by Sharp, How cool was that?
- 3:02Speaker 2: And by that kids in Miami native as well.
- 3:04Speaker 3: So yeah, and actually when back through that ball, I
- 3:10Speaker 3: thought he was gonna he was going to hit that completion,
- 3:14Speaker 3: and if he did, he probably would have been a
- 3:16Speaker 3: touchdown with which put Miami ahead. But I'm so happy
- 3:19Speaker 3: for Indiana. I mean, they did a great job. Now again,
- 3:23Speaker 3: they took advantage of the new era of college football
- 3:27Speaker 3: forty seven on their players are between the ages of
- 3:30Speaker 3: twenty two and twenty five.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Well did you see, I did not know Fernando was
- 3:34Speaker 1: actually from Cal. You know, it came out of the Cals.
- 3:38Speaker 1: But apparently the guy who hit him pretty hard in
- 3:41Speaker 1: the game when he was at Cal, he ran right
- 3:43Speaker 1: past him for the touchdown against Miami.
- 3:46Speaker 2: So that's pretty interesting.
- 3:47Speaker 3: That is interesting. I actually I didn't know that.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, TikTok telling me a lot of different facts about
- 3:52Speaker 2: this kid. And I love his energy.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I really I love his energy and his spirit and
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know one other thing about them him it's very interesting,
- 4:01Speaker 1: how connected. And you've heard this on my other podcast.
- 4:04Speaker 1: He did something in the college level Brady could not
- 4:06Speaker 1: do in the NFL level, which I find really interesting.
- 4:09Speaker 1: That the guy's about to draft him a seven time
- 4:12Speaker 1: super Bowler, but he's got one up on him.
- 4:14Speaker 3: He did an undefeated season.
- 4:15Speaker 1: How cool is that?
- 4:18Speaker 3: That is cool? That is cool, and it looks like
- 4:22Speaker 3: Brady's going to really have a lot of it.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But that was the college level. That's why I'm so
- 4:26Speaker 1: excited for his NFL potential. That was at the college level.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean sixteen and oh the last team
- 4:34Speaker 3: to do it was the eighteen ninety four Yale Bulldogs.
- 4:38Speaker 1: It was sixteen and oh, well, I don't know the
- 4:41Speaker 1: last time a Heisman winner actually went on and led
- 4:44Speaker 1: his team to the to the title.
- 4:46Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 4:47Speaker 1: That's daddy, though maybe you might know that one.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Well, didn't keep Tebow, did he wanted when he wanted.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Mister Tibo as Fernando's mister Tebow, which I thought was
- 5:01Speaker 1: awesome too.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Berow did in twenty nineteen. So only two quarterbacks have
- 5:12Speaker 3: won a national championship and won a Super Bowl, and
- 5:18Speaker 3: Joe Montana, well Mendoz would be the third. It looked
- 5:23Speaker 3: like Joe Burrow was going to do it. Yeah, a
- 5:26Speaker 3: couple of years ago. We came within ninety seconds, but uh,
- 5:30Speaker 3: the Bengals couldn't hold on.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So and they were saying this, But by the way,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I gotta give Kirk Kurbstreet a lot of credit for
- 5:37Speaker 1: all this exact and he did this whole season. He
- 5:39Speaker 1: went from college football today, you know, the college game day,
- 5:44Speaker 1: to the doing the game, and then he'd fly out
- 5:47Speaker 1: do every Thursday night game and he did the playoff
- 5:49Speaker 1: game a couple of weeks ago with al Michaels, guy
- 5:52Speaker 1: was everywhere.
- 5:53Speaker 2: This year, Louis, he's everywhere.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And you know, some people try to nitpick his work
- 6:00Speaker 3: on Thursday night football. His work on Thursday night football
- 6:03Speaker 3: is perfect. He lets the game breathe, he doesn't talk
- 6:06Speaker 3: too much. And even Al Michaels, who people say, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 3: it's past his prime. Okay, the guy is eighty one
- 6:12Speaker 3: years old. But I'm telling you this is just my opinion.
- 6:16Speaker 3: He's still He's still I'm not gonna say at the
- 6:20Speaker 3: top of his game. He's still pretty good.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And of course we miss League Courso not being there
- 6:25Speaker 1: for this year's college game day, but I guess you
- 6:28Speaker 1: know and him are very close.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Still former head coach at the University of Indiana Courso.
- 6:35Speaker 1: That's right, that's right, So it'll be good. Look, this
- 6:38Speaker 1: is not just a revitalization of the football program. This
- 6:41Speaker 1: brings back and it's interesting. Happened almost you know, in
- 6:45Speaker 1: the same year Gene hackmen past. Because he put Hoosiers
- 6:48Speaker 1: on the map with that movie. There's no doubt about.
- 6:50Speaker 3: He's no question, you're right.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And so I would say this puts him on the map,
- 6:55Speaker 1: not just for football, But I think for all sports
- 6:58Speaker 1: there's gonna be a bigger eye on blooming and which
- 7:00Speaker 1: by the way, I looked this up, Louis is not
- 7:02Speaker 1: a small town. Eighty thousand people. Is not a small town.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Actually it's not. I've been. I was there once, but
- 7:10Speaker 3: obviously it was for it was to see the football program.
- 7:16Speaker 3: It's obviously a basketball program. That was the I was
- 7:19Speaker 3: there just one time. Uh yeah, it's it's you know,
- 7:21Speaker 3: it's not you know, it's a college town, but it's
- 7:25Speaker 3: not a small college town. Eight thousand people, Like you
- 7:28Speaker 3: said a lot of people.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Now, do you think this kid is gonna get like
- 7:31Speaker 2: the media tour?
- 7:32Speaker 1: I feel like you get that you said one in
- 7:34Speaker 1: Super Bowl, but it's expanded, you get the you get
- 7:36Speaker 1: the media tour, even after winning a national championship like
- 7:39Speaker 1: he did.
- 7:39Speaker 3: No, he will. Now, he might turn down some things
- 7:44Speaker 3: because that's the type of guy he is. He might
- 7:46Speaker 3: not take everything he has.
- 7:48Speaker 1: One time for a girlfriend, he said the other day,
- 7:50Speaker 1: girlfriends are distracted.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Girls are distracting. I want to focus on.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I Actually I actually read that story this morning, and
- 7:58Speaker 3: he's focusing on what's gonna be a big challenge, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 3: he's not getting drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 3: a Super Bowl contender even though they make the playoffs. Yeah,
- 8:08Speaker 3: he's getting He's getting drafted by a team in all likelihood,
- 8:13Speaker 3: hopefully they find somebody else that they like. It's not
- 8:16Speaker 3: a quarterback and drop Mendoz the number two that would be.
- 8:20Speaker 3: That would be like a godsend for the Green and White.
- 8:23Speaker 3: But good things don't happen to them. But yeah, you know,
- 8:28Speaker 3: he's got he's got to concentrate on learning how to
- 8:31Speaker 3: play the NFL game, and I think he'll do a
- 8:34Speaker 3: great job. I'm so impressed with the guy.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Natural leader, and he actually overcame what not a hit
- 8:41Speaker 1: to the face, but his lip was bleeding and all that.
- 8:44Speaker 3: And yeah, that wasn't Alex. That was a cheap in
- 8:47Speaker 3: my opinion, that was a cheap shot. That was a
- 8:50Speaker 3: dirty shot. How how all those striped shirts could miss
- 8:56Speaker 3: that is beyond my comprehension. He got hit, laid out
- 8:59Speaker 3: of bounds, that there was at least three personal fouls
- 9:02Speaker 3: on him. Now I'm not saying that the that the
- 9:05Speaker 3: officials were favoring Miami. They just blew him, but that
- 9:10Speaker 3: first one, how could you blow that call. Everybody saw it.
- 9:14Speaker 3: That was that was unsportsumate like conduct targeting nowadays, you know,
- 9:19Speaker 3: we blow on the guy and uh they throw a
- 9:22Speaker 3: flag and he got racked, but you got key came
- 9:26Speaker 3: through it and uh, you know he was the MVP again,
- 9:30Speaker 3: and uh, he's gotta be on cloud nine.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Man.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Great, great, he's a great kid. I loved. I would
- 9:41Speaker 3: love to see him where number fifteen in green and white,
- 9:44Speaker 3: but that's not going to happen.
- 9:45Speaker 1: So well, you know what we could, you could see
- 9:48Speaker 1: a surprise and the Raiders draft down, but I don't
- 9:52Speaker 1: think that's gonna happen either.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think so because there are no quarterbacks
- 9:56Speaker 3: in this draft. I shouldn't say or no, that's not right.
- 9:59Speaker 3: They are no slam dunk quarterbacks in his draft besides him,
- 10:06Speaker 3: and uh, they're not gonna They're not gonna pass him up.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I mean, some of these defensive players are are amazing
- 10:14Speaker 3: better in the draft, but I just don't think in
- 10:15Speaker 3: a league where quarterback play is so tough to find
- 10:21Speaker 3: that that the Vegas Raiders are going to not pass
- 10:27Speaker 3: them up. I'm not going to take him and pass
- 10:28Speaker 3: them up for somebody else. I just can't see it.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Now, let's say they do draft him, does that mean
- 10:33Speaker 1: he sits behind Gino? I kind of like the formula
- 10:36Speaker 1: where these guys are sitting and learning from these guys
- 10:38Speaker 1: that are veterans, then taking the place of them.
- 10:41Speaker 2: You know, I like that formula two.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Well, I actually I actually agree with you. And you know,
- 10:46Speaker 3: throwing these guys in day one sometimes really hurts them.
- 10:51Speaker 3: And I'm not saying that. You know, you don't make
- 10:53Speaker 3: himself the whole year, but make him watch maybe put
- 10:56Speaker 3: him in game six if Gino Smith, who they still
- 10:59Speaker 3: have for another two years unless they cut him. You
- 11:04Speaker 3: know Falters, let's face, he's going to be the Las
- 11:07Speaker 3: Vegas Raders quarterback at some point. I just went and
- 11:10Speaker 3: saw him on opening day. But again, we don't even
- 11:14Speaker 3: know who the coach of the Raders is yet.
- 11:18Speaker 1: No, there's a lot of open spaces there, but we'll
- 11:21Speaker 1: see them get filled.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Now.
- 11:23Speaker 1: You mentioned about throwing them in there, and I wanted
- 11:26Speaker 1: to start with my dad's bears because it's his birthday
- 11:29Speaker 1: week this week, and you know, you saw the value
- 11:32Speaker 1: of QB on Sunday night. Caleb made that really I
- 11:36Speaker 1: thought one mistake, but it was a great matchup between
- 11:38Speaker 1: the two of them, Stafford versus Caleb. He can match
- 11:41Speaker 1: up with the good, the great ones. I could say
- 11:43Speaker 1: that now I feel like you can.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Well. The thing is he just had to get and
- 11:47Speaker 3: we've talked about this before. He's got great talent, He's
- 11:50Speaker 3: a great athlete. He just needs to become more consistent.
- 11:55Speaker 3: He missed a lot of open receivers and then he
- 11:58Speaker 3: makes that hillacious throw to Cole to the end.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Zone when he h whether they Caleb or something like that.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Yeah. So, but I think he's in the right situation, Alex.
- 12:09Speaker 3: He's with an offensive coach in Ben Johnson. I think
- 12:13Speaker 3: now the Bear Now, the Bears had a big jump
- 12:15Speaker 3: this year and a lot of things went their way.
- 12:18Speaker 3: But I think the Bears if Caleb Williams stays healthy,
- 12:24Speaker 3: I think you want to see him improved as a
- 12:27Speaker 3: quarterback next year. His accuracy still needs to be better.
- 12:31Speaker 3: I mean, he completed fifty eight percent of his passes
- 12:33Speaker 3: last year. That has to that has to improve in
- 12:36Speaker 3: today's NFL. When I saw watching football, if you complete
- 12:39Speaker 3: fifty eight percent of your passes, they would put you
- 12:42Speaker 3: in the Hall of Fame while you were still playing
- 12:45Speaker 3: that's how the game has changed. But you know, the
- 12:49Speaker 3: Bears did a Hey did any Bear fans thought they
- 12:53Speaker 3: were gonna be twelve and five?
- 12:55Speaker 1: And U then win a playoff game but the first
- 12:57Speaker 1: time in fifteen years against the Packers, and I thought, well,
- 13:02Speaker 1: green Bay always seems to have their number, but not
- 13:04Speaker 1: this time in the playoffs. So it was a nice
- 13:06Speaker 1: change of pace. Rams and see it. Look, I'll be
- 13:11Speaker 1: quite frank except for Drake May, I don't know the
- 13:13Speaker 1: appeal of this whole rest of the season, I postseason.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I just the Seahawks are Rams. That's an NFC West thing,
- 13:21Speaker 1: that's not really a New York thing we deal with.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And then the you know, the Broncos down in a
- 13:26Speaker 1: bow Nicks. This should be Drake May's super Bowl. To lose, well,
- 13:30Speaker 1: you know what I mean, to get to and then
- 13:31Speaker 1: maybe win. I feel like it's his time.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Well, I mean, here's a guy in the second year
- 13:36Speaker 3: and he didn't start in his first year until the
- 13:39Speaker 3: middle of the season. Obviously, the Patriots, okay, you know,
- 13:48Speaker 3: are the favorite on Sunday, even though you're playing in Denver.
- 13:53Speaker 3: A lot of things have gone to Patriots way, and
- 13:55Speaker 3: I believe I read the other day that since the
- 13:58Speaker 3: merger in nineteen seventy, and that's really the beginning of
- 14:01Speaker 3: the new era of football. The merger maybe wrong, go
- 14:05Speaker 3: back to nineteen sixty, but anything really before that is okay.
- 14:09Speaker 3: But the Patriots since the merger, which was nineteen seventy
- 14:14Speaker 3: to today, had played the tenth easiest schedule in the NFL.
- 14:23Speaker 3: They got a breaking game, you know, in the first
- 14:25Speaker 3: game against the Chargers, who played according to analytics, they
- 14:29Speaker 3: played a Charger team beat up injury offensive line, the
- 14:34Speaker 3: fifth or sixth analytically driven offensive line in the history
- 14:41Speaker 3: of NFL playoff teams. So a lot of things have
- 14:44Speaker 3: gone their way. I think they gotta be careful on Sunday.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I don't think beating Denver, even with Bo Nicks out
- 14:51Speaker 3: and Jared Stidham in the game, I'm sure it's gonna
- 14:54Speaker 3: be a heavy dose of run and play action passes,
- 14:58Speaker 3: a trick play or two at the right time. Uh.
- 15:02Speaker 3: The Denver dy, especially at front seven, might be able
- 15:07Speaker 3: to of course, all kinds of havoc with the Patriots
- 15:11Speaker 3: offensive line, which is a little shaky. But Kenni Kenne
- 15:16Speaker 3: Broncos win on Sunday.
- 15:18Speaker 1: You know why, because they have a big and I
- 15:20Speaker 1: know he had the scandal with New Orleans, but they
- 15:22Speaker 1: have a really damn good coach can navigate this thing.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no, no doubt about it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And actually, and you know, Rabel's had his struggles as coach,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but I mean he's improved with Drake May this year
- 15:33Speaker 1: for sure, you know, And I should take it back.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I think people will be interested on Sunday in the
- 15:38Speaker 1: ram Syhawks. He because I'm a Matt Stafford guy. I've
- 15:41Speaker 1: always liked Matt Stafford. I always thought that trade would
- 15:44Speaker 1: Detroit benefited both sides, unlike other trades.
- 15:47Speaker 3: It did. It was an unusual trade that both sides
- 15:50Speaker 3: benefited from.
- 15:52Speaker 1: But but the Sam Darnold story is fascinating to the
- 15:56Speaker 1: New Yorkers who saw him struggle here. I mean, there's
- 15:58Speaker 1: no doubt that we want to see him succeed at
- 16:01Speaker 1: least I think I do too, don't you.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I mean I don't think. I don't. I
- 16:06Speaker 3: think the Jets treated him, and I don't mean tried
- 16:09Speaker 3: by me treated him. I don't think that they abused
- 16:11Speaker 3: him anyway. But I mean, as he should have started
- 16:16Speaker 3: his first game, he should have watched for five or
- 16:18Speaker 3: six or seven games. Again, Patrick Mahomes didn't play at
- 16:21Speaker 3: all his first year until the last game of the
- 16:24Speaker 3: season when the Chiefs had everything clinched and they arrested
- 16:27Speaker 3: Steve Smith. So it's it's no sin in sitting down
- 16:32Speaker 3: for a while. He had he had absolutely no players,
- 16:38Speaker 3: He had no receivers and and then the Jets decided
- 16:43Speaker 3: to cut loose and drafted Zach, which was a huge
- 16:46Speaker 3: mistake drafting Zach Wilson, and then they saw him right away,
- 16:49Speaker 3: which was a mistake. So again the difference between success
- 16:54Speaker 3: and failure sometimes it's when you get drafted by and as.
- 17:00Speaker 1: It would be kind of cool to see this guy
- 17:01Speaker 1: who was now match Tom Brady with fourteen plus win
- 17:04Speaker 1: seasons say f you to both teams gave up on
- 17:08Speaker 1: him and I actually take the Seahawks up Bowl. I
- 17:10Speaker 1: kind of liked that revenge story he seems to be
- 17:12Speaker 1: going on because look, he should have been all intends
- 17:14Speaker 1: and purposes of Viking.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Okay, we we.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Sayed over and over, but that was his team. He
- 17:20Speaker 1: took that team and brought to another level and they
- 17:23Speaker 1: let him go. So I hope he gives them an
- 17:25Speaker 1: FU two because he no because You're right, Yeah, it's
- 17:29Speaker 1: suck to see them let him let go, you know,
- 17:31Speaker 1: let let go of him like that.
- 17:33Speaker 2: But it's been fun to watch him in Seattle.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 17:38Speaker 2: And I said to you, does Kyle Shanahan.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Have a job situation here? And You're like no, And
- 17:44Speaker 1: I'm like, but they got beat up. I didn't expect
- 17:46Speaker 1: the Seahawks to beat them up that much.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Well, they had, they had no roster left, Alex. Kyle
- 17:52Speaker 3: Shanahan is the best coach probably in an entire National
- 17:55Speaker 3: Football league. I mean, I would how would he broke
- 17:59Speaker 3: and play for him to be the coach of my
- 18:02Speaker 3: New York Jets. He's the best coach in football right now.
- 18:06Speaker 3: He's better than Harbor, He's better than Tomlin. He's right
- 18:09Speaker 3: there with McVeigh. He'd made chicken salad out of chicken
- 18:14Speaker 3: crap even to get that far. That's my analyzation.
- 18:18Speaker 1: A look at the way he had. I mean, I
- 18:19Speaker 1: remember when he first started, he had Garoppolo and it
- 18:21Speaker 1: just I think he had Smith's end of the year
- 18:24Speaker 1: area two. But you know, he's really turned it around.
- 18:26Speaker 1: With Brock Purty, It's been amazing to watch Brock Party,
- 18:30Speaker 1: who we knew. We never knew about it until he
- 18:32Speaker 1: had to take over for I think injured Garoppolo and
- 18:35Speaker 1: then he became a star. Look at that. So well,
- 18:39Speaker 1: we'll have to see what the Niners do. But the
- 18:41Speaker 1: Seahawks domination was a surprise. Can we I think we'd
- 18:44Speaker 1: safely save that all year long?
- 18:48Speaker 3: Yeah? No, I mean, obviously they were a new quarterback.
- 18:52Speaker 3: You never know what's gonna happen. Even though we had
- 18:54Speaker 3: a big year with the Vikings last year. When Donald
- 18:55Speaker 3: came into Seattle, different situation, but he picked up where
- 18:58Speaker 3: we uh where we left off. Their defense is awesome
- 19:04Speaker 3: and I could be wrong. I will be rooting for Seattle. Well,
- 19:10Speaker 3: I should say I will be favoring Seattle. I only
- 19:12Speaker 3: rooted for one team, and it's not the Seattle Seahawks,
- 19:16Speaker 3: but Alex I have. I mean, if you're gonna make me,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and you know I hate to pick games, but if
- 19:21Speaker 3: you're gonna make me pick one, I would lean towards
- 19:24Speaker 3: the Los Angeles Rams.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Well, because the Rams have this energy about him McVeigh.
- 19:33Speaker 1: And by the way, how interest is gonna be Cooper
- 19:35Speaker 1: Cup versus old team in the NFC title game?
- 19:37Speaker 2: So that's very interesting as well. That's very it's very
- 19:40Speaker 2: interesting on Sunday.
- 19:42Speaker 1: But you know, I'm I'm a New Yorker, so I'm
- 19:44Speaker 1: not supposed to say this, and I thought about this today.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm starting to feel like I'm picking player over team
- 19:50Speaker 1: and I want to see Drake May do something his
- 19:53Speaker 1: second year. I saw potential him last year. I wouldn't
- 19:56Speaker 1: mind seeing him win the Super Bowl. I'm not supposed
- 19:58Speaker 1: to say that because I'm in New Yorker, but player aside
- 20:01Speaker 1: from the team, he's a great player, and I think
- 20:03Speaker 1: i'd like to see him complete that incredible turnaround of
- 20:06Speaker 1: the Patriots.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Sure, sure, Now I understand and remember Alex, when you know,
- 20:12Speaker 3: just because we live here, that doesn't mean we have
- 20:15Speaker 3: to We get we and we always give our realistic opinions.
- 20:20Speaker 3: And I agree with you about Drake May. It would
- 20:23Speaker 3: be cool if he finishes the job.
- 20:26Speaker 1: It would almost be like the Mendoza turnaround of Indiana
- 20:29Speaker 1: if I'm honest.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but again, but again, you know, don't feel sorry
- 20:33Speaker 3: for the Patriots. I mean, they had two crappy years
- 20:35Speaker 3: after you know, twenty great ones, so it's not like
- 20:39Speaker 3: the Patriots were in the crapper like Indiana. Was for
- 20:42Speaker 3: the last seventy years.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's in the peril of the two of them.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So well, we'll have to see what happens this this
- 20:51Speaker 1: this weekend. All right, Let's get to what happened yesterday,
- 20:54Speaker 1: two days ago already. Geez, Thursday, Harbaugh.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Rockstar Entrance, Rockstar press conference.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And I love that he started off saying, we are
- 21:04Speaker 1: the New York Football Giants. I am proud to be
- 21:07Speaker 1: head coach of the New York Football Giants. Maybe that
- 21:10Speaker 1: that brings a serious tone to the conversation. Now by
- 21:12Speaker 1: adding football, I know Steve Summers to.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Take the truth considering the baseball Giants left when I
- 21:18Speaker 3: was four years old, which is sixty eight years ago.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I don't know why they're still being called the New
- 21:22Speaker 3: York Football Giants since we since there's no baseball team
- 21:25Speaker 3: in New York, but that's their corporate name. And uh uh.
- 21:31Speaker 3: I thought Harbor was magnificent in that press conference. I
- 21:35Speaker 3: really did, as I told you. I thought that the
- 21:38Speaker 3: entire process, which was un giant like, uh, they handled it.
- 21:46Speaker 3: They handled it perfectly.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Now, Michael Rubin and fanatics, if you're listening out there
- 21:51Speaker 1: and you want to go to Eli's Mediterranean. We can
- 21:53Speaker 1: make a deal and do a podcast for fanatics. Terminello's
- 21:56Speaker 1: take on with fanatics. How cool would that be. Let's
- 21:58Speaker 1: get an.
- 22:00Speaker 3: I'm only an hour away from fifty five minutes away
- 22:04Speaker 3: from that restaurant. I'd be there in a heartbeat, So
- 22:08Speaker 3: let's get let's do it. But Harbo was magnificent. But
- 22:15Speaker 3: the thing is, this was the This was the first
- 22:18Speaker 3: time in my lifetime the New York Giants, excuse me,
- 22:22Speaker 3: the New York Football Giants hired an alpha male as coach.
- 22:28Speaker 3: When I hired Parcels, he was an unknown. He wasn't
- 22:31Speaker 3: an alpha male. He became one when he became coach
- 22:34Speaker 3: of the Patriots or the Jets and the Cowboys. And
- 22:40Speaker 3: you saw right away, I don't care what the organizational
- 22:44Speaker 3: chart says. He is running the.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Entire four coaches already were not even into genuine At
- 22:54Speaker 1: the end of the week, he just fired four coaches, right,
- 22:57Speaker 1: so you know.
- 22:58Speaker 3: He's he's running the oh.
- 23:02Speaker 1: But that's what And I know people are gonna say dable, mismanaged, dark,
- 23:06Speaker 1: but I also know he wasn't the kind of fire anybody.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I think that was one of the issues they probably
- 23:11Speaker 1: had with him. You could have fired Shane Bowen after
- 23:13Speaker 1: that Denver debacle and he didn't like Come on, man,
- 23:17Speaker 1: and I like dable the first year. Then it just
- 23:18Speaker 1: wore off on me.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Well, the thing, the thing is Alex, you know Harbor.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I think, yes, they fired some guy who was not
- 23:30Speaker 3: some guy and the assistant general manager and I.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Can't the senior vpat of operation from yeah, since nineteen
- 23:36Speaker 1: ninety nine.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I love it.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Though.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You need change.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Kevin Abrams, that's his name, just puffed into
- 23:42Speaker 3: my head. Yeah, but you need absolutely, you know you
- 23:46Speaker 3: need change. But again it shows you how uh. I
- 23:54Speaker 3: don't want to say double standard, but.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Maybe yeah, maybe maybe this is a test.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Maybe he'll see I Shay, if he doesn't like the
- 24:02Speaker 1: way they drafted, maybe he'll get Shane fired after well,
- 24:06Speaker 1: d with Alex.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Alex, Shane is not Shane is just going to be
- 24:10Speaker 3: a complimentary situation with the draft. He's gonna make his
- 24:14Speaker 3: voice heard. The guy who's gonna the guy who's gonna
- 24:16Speaker 3: pick the player that he wants. It's gonna be John Hobbor.
- 24:19Speaker 3: John Hobbor is pointing directly to John Marra. Now I'm
- 24:23Speaker 3: gonna say something else. This is where as the pro
- 24:26Speaker 3: giant they kissed the giants ass all the time. Media
- 24:29Speaker 3: is hypocritical. Now everybody criticizes Whatdy Johnson because the coach
- 24:35Speaker 3: reports directly or Rdy Johnson. But now, for the first
- 24:38Speaker 3: time ever, the coach is reporting the direct directly. John
- 24:42Speaker 3: Marra I gets that's okay. And oh, by the way,
- 24:46Speaker 3: when when John Harbower was in Baltimore for those eighteen
- 24:50Speaker 3: years and won one hundred and ninety three games an
- 24:53Speaker 3: amazing total, he reported directly to the owner, Steve Buscatti.
- 24:59Speaker 1: So I then trages him out as he's out the door.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I don't really understand that one, but.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Well, again he he's the owner. But my point is
- 25:09Speaker 3: he replied directly to the owner. But when the coach
- 25:13Speaker 3: reports directly to the owner of the Woody Johnson, Woody
- 25:15Speaker 3: Johnson's a piece of crap. So that's I just had
- 25:18Speaker 3: to I had to throw it out in there.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Your daily dose, your weekly dose of jets.
- 25:23Speaker 3: I'm just I'm just being realistic. That's all.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Just being is what I call it.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Again. I think I'm as realistic and as non bias
- 25:35Speaker 3: on the show as possible. But when I see something,
- 25:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna say something. I guess he fired the Giants trainer.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I haven't I the long time Giants trainer Ronnie Bonds,
- 25:45Speaker 3: or they're gonna shift him into a different position.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's like an usher looks away. The
- 25:50Speaker 1: usher will be fired before the end of the game.
- 25:52Speaker 3: But again, Alex, the only thing that matters if the
- 25:57Speaker 3: next year the Giants are ten and seven and a
- 25:59Speaker 3: year after that, uh, they were in any NFC championship
- 26:02Speaker 3: game or Super Bowl. That's the only thing that matters.
- 26:06Speaker 3: It's the end result.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this because remember when I
- 26:09Speaker 1: saw Patino struggling his first year, and I'm like, uh, oh, Louis,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and You're like, give it time. Could we see a
- 26:15Speaker 1: struggle situation here in the first year and then all
- 26:18Speaker 1: of a sudden that second to whatever many years, Yes
- 26:21Speaker 1: you could, I would say, yes, Yes, that's possible.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Mm hm.
- 26:25Speaker 1: So I mean cause I know a lot of pressures
- 26:26Speaker 1: are gonna be a lot of rgused on him already.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I mean he came in here almost like Frando is
- 26:30Speaker 1: gonna be going into Raider and you know, Las Vegas
- 26:34Speaker 1: as like a savior almost. So it's gonna be very
- 26:38Speaker 1: interesting to see how the media handles him after the
- 26:41Speaker 1: first few weeks.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I'm way for the first few weeks of the season
- 26:44Speaker 2: to see how they react to it. I'm very curious actually,
- 26:48Speaker 2: so we'll happen to see.
- 26:51Speaker 1: You know, the Jets did not make any moves as
- 26:54Speaker 1: far as firing any coaches, really have they. I haven't
- 26:57Speaker 1: seen any moves made around Aaron Glenn yet.
- 26:59Speaker 3: No, you know, and I think we might have mentioned
- 27:01Speaker 3: this last week, and I'll mention it again. It's gonna
- 27:04Speaker 3: be hard for if the Jets want to h bring
- 27:09Speaker 3: in some new coaches get rid of some old ones.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Let's face it. And I'm telling you when you're gonna
- 27:14Speaker 3: be pulling out this and I hope, and believe me, Alex,
- 27:16Speaker 3: I hope I'm wrong. I'm hoping. I hope he successful.
- 27:20Speaker 3: But come Halloween or before that, you're gonna be going back.
- 27:24Speaker 3: And I'm gonna say, Alex, you gotta start the podcast
- 27:27Speaker 3: off with the tape of when I said he'll be
- 27:30Speaker 3: gone by Halloween and if and believe me, other people
- 27:34Speaker 3: in the league know that. So if you're a top
- 27:37Speaker 3: notch defensive coordinator, possibility like a Jim Leonard, one of
- 27:40Speaker 3: my favorite Jets and I guess he interviewed for the
- 27:45Speaker 3: defensive coordinator. Drop would you take that job? Where maybe
- 27:50Speaker 3: by November first, by Halloween, Aaron Glenn's gonna be fired,
- 27:54Speaker 3: which means you'll be looking for another job next year.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Now he'll get one because he's a highly respected defensive coach.
- 28:00Speaker 3: But again, that hurts recruitment of of these coaches. Again,
- 28:08Speaker 3: Hopefully I'm wrong, Hopefully Aaron Glenn is successful. Alex, I
- 28:13Speaker 3: don't see it.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I also think he's been I don't think he's been
- 28:18Speaker 1: saddled with a good system around him either. But we'll
- 28:20Speaker 1: have to see. And it is frustrating when the other
- 28:25Speaker 1: side of town, the Giants have this hoopla, and all
- 28:28Speaker 1: of a sudden you look at the jets'd its are
- 28:30Speaker 1: like cold and and despair and.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Right right, But look two years ago Jets had all
- 28:36Speaker 3: the hooplat when they got Rogers, and four plays into
- 28:38Speaker 3: the season, he blew He blew out his achilles. Now again,
- 28:42Speaker 3: as I said to you last week, even if hardball
- 28:44Speaker 3: blows out his achilles or tars hiss acl somebody runs
- 28:47Speaker 3: into him on the sidelines, he can still coach. That's
- 28:50Speaker 3: the big difference. But there's no guarantee of success. And
- 28:53Speaker 3: we saw with Pete Carroll, a guy who won a
- 28:55Speaker 3: national championship in college football, went to two Super Bowls,
- 28:59Speaker 3: won them, won one of them, and uh couldn't get
- 29:03Speaker 3: out of his own way this year? What the what
- 29:05Speaker 3: the what? The Vegas rops the.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Team of coaches. That's a really sad exit for him.
- 29:10Speaker 1: But I want to I want to go back to
- 29:13Speaker 1: to last two years ago because who was the coach
- 29:16Speaker 1: two years ago?
- 29:18Speaker 2: Robert Salad for six weeks.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, I don't know what you can bring to
- 29:24Speaker 1: the Titans. What do you think they hired him for?
- 29:27Speaker 1: Where's the second chance going to lead him?
- 29:29Speaker 3: Well, Alex, if I was in my job, if I
- 29:32Speaker 3: was when I was working, if I was twenty and
- 29:34Speaker 3: thirty six equivalent in my job, I probably would be
- 29:36Speaker 3: fired and never been hired again. So he was twenty
- 29:39Speaker 3: and thirty six. He's an outstanding defensive coach. He had
- 29:43Speaker 3: he is he and uh, you know, the Titans have
- 29:49Speaker 3: a lot of work to do. I mean, their roster
- 29:52Speaker 3: is full of holes. But he must have impressed them
- 29:55Speaker 3: in the interview. I don't know why they hired him,
- 30:00Speaker 3: but they they have a quarterback that looks like he
- 30:03Speaker 3: might be okay in cam Ward. And uh again, some
- 30:10Speaker 3: organizations don't want the alpha male, they don't want Hall.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I still think there because Misica was letting Derek Henry
- 30:16Speaker 1: go to Baltimore. But that's just me.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I mean, that's just uh.
- 30:20Speaker 1: They they they fell off after that. And of course
- 30:23Speaker 1: Rabel tried his best in Tennessee. It just didn't really
- 30:26Speaker 1: work out. But yeah, I mean, now we tried to,
- 30:29Speaker 1: you know, work with a young quarterback here and it
- 30:32Speaker 1: didn't really work. I guess he's gonna try and redo
- 30:35Speaker 1: do something different with cam Ward.
- 30:36Speaker 2: We'll have to see.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Well. And I also think, let's face it now, we
- 30:40Speaker 3: you know, he was in an NFL coach of sixties
- 30:43Speaker 3: fifty six games. Robert Salill learned some things during all
- 30:48Speaker 3: fifty six games, some of the mistakes he made with
- 30:50Speaker 3: the Jets for his sake, hopefully he won't make again.
- 30:56Speaker 3: So you know, yeah, there was a learning curve, and
- 30:58Speaker 3: I'm sure he learned. He learned, He he learned a lot
- 31:01Speaker 3: for his sake. I hope he did. I mean, but
- 31:05Speaker 3: we'll see.
- 31:06Speaker 1: We'll have to see, all right. The other stuff is baseball,
- 31:10Speaker 1: but I'm such we can talk baseball in the second.
- 31:12Speaker 1: But I'm such an NFL move just I just okay,
- 31:15Speaker 1: it's just a lot going on and a lot of moves.
- 31:18Speaker 1: But the thing with and a lot, I always feel
- 31:23Speaker 1: like these names always pop up like it's I'm trying
- 31:27Speaker 1: to lead somewhere, but it's always like I remember last year,
- 31:29Speaker 1: we had like three guys from the New York area
- 31:31Speaker 1: that was about being the Super Bowl with the Vikings,
- 31:33Speaker 1: and it was like, how did that happen? All these
- 31:35Speaker 1: guys pop up everywhere else? Why can't we have guys
- 31:39Speaker 1: be successful here before they move onward. That's what I'm
- 31:41Speaker 1: trying to figure out year after year.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Well, you have different decision makers every year. That's been
- 31:47Speaker 3: a problem.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Like maybe salad goes on in the AFC Championship. I mean,
- 31:51Speaker 2: this is how crazy the thing could happen.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Remember Pete Carroll his first year in coaching as a
- 31:58Speaker 3: head coach, he was head coach of that JED six
- 32:00Speaker 3: and ten and they made them one and done, which
- 32:03Speaker 3: was a mistake.
- 32:06Speaker 1: But I'm a very big parallel guy. So I think
- 32:12Speaker 1: about thirty years ago when the jet when the Yanks
- 32:15Speaker 1: brought on, and I know it was a different reception
- 32:17Speaker 1: because the media actually hated Tory. But thirty years ago
- 32:21Speaker 1: there was another big splash in a managerial change, and
- 32:25Speaker 1: he led them to a few World Series. I know
- 32:27Speaker 1: football is different, but I couldn't help but think of
- 32:29Speaker 1: the thirty year parallel of like, well, maybe horror BA
- 32:32Speaker 1: do something to bring New York sports back, because let's
- 32:34Speaker 1: face it, when Tory got hired thirty years ago, he
- 32:37Speaker 1: changed the landscape of New York sports forever. And I
- 32:40Speaker 1: think we're trying to hoping Harbor does the same. Right now.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Well, I'm not helping that, but I think you could
- 32:46Speaker 3: be right.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Because look you look at the other sports. Oh my god,
- 32:52Speaker 1: the Knicks or disaster, I don't know. Now they don't
- 32:55Speaker 1: want to play for Mike Brown. It's a very talk
- 32:59Speaker 1: to there. And then you got the Rangers. We need
- 33:02Speaker 1: some kind of hope here, Louis.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Well again, I'm got's let's let's uh, let's let's we'll
- 33:08Speaker 3: talk about the Nicks real quick. Uh. They probably should
- 33:11Speaker 3: not have pulled the trigger on Thibodeau. I was never
- 33:14Speaker 3: a big Mike Brown fan, but I am not going
- 33:17Speaker 3: to trash him yet. It's the middle of the season. Uh,
- 33:21Speaker 3: this team doesn't seem this team, they're behind the Celtics,
- 33:26Speaker 3: we don't have their best player. I mean, it's remarkable
- 33:30Speaker 3: to me. I thought the Knicks would be a one
- 33:32Speaker 3: or at worst the two seed, and they're closer to
- 33:36Speaker 3: the playing tournament than they r to the one or
- 33:39Speaker 3: two seed. Uh again, somebody said the Knicks aren't aren't
- 33:46Speaker 3: athletic enough to win the championship last week, an NBA
- 33:49Speaker 3: scout said an anonymous NBA scouts and maybe that's true. Momentum,
- 33:54Speaker 3: and I don't know, and I don't think this is
- 33:55Speaker 3: gonna happen for the Knicks, But momentum on Jannis and
- 33:59Speaker 3: at the Kupo getting ready before the February fifth trade deadline,
- 34:04Speaker 3: it seems to be getting stronger and stronger each day.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Brian Windhors makes it sound like it's definitely gonna happen.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Brian Winners of ESPN, he said, it's it's.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's getting ugly out into Milwaukee. I'm hearing
- 34:16Speaker 1: like everybody's sort of against each other out there now.
- 34:18Speaker 1: It's pretty bad, actually, what's going on out there.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so I could see that happening. I don't know
- 34:24Speaker 3: if he's coming to the Knicks. But Alex even if
- 34:26Speaker 3: he comes to the Knicks, I don't I don't think
- 34:28Speaker 3: that makes him a contender because how many guys are
- 34:30Speaker 3: gonna have to get rid of They're probably.
- 34:32Speaker 1: What's going on with Lebron by the way, I hear
- 34:34Speaker 1: that the Bus family is upset with him or something.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I don't exactly know what's going on.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Yeah, they were saying that, you know, Lebron, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 3: war out as welcome and kind of turned their back
- 34:48Speaker 3: on them and with some of the decisions that they made,
- 34:50Speaker 3: and Lebron is one of the reasons why they actually
- 34:53Speaker 3: sold their steak in the in the Los Angeles Lakers,
- 34:57Speaker 3: which is remarkable to me. But when they sold that,
- 35:01Speaker 3: when they sold their share of the Lakers, they walked
- 35:05Speaker 3: away with an amazing amount of money. So I don't
- 35:07Speaker 3: feel sorry for training of the buses.
- 35:11Speaker 1: And saying in basketball, I understand you got to mention
- 35:14Speaker 1: by Chris Carreno. Is that correct? I saw something from
- 35:18Speaker 1: our friend Dave Germany.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Oh uh uh yeah, no, I uh.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Our buddy J Horwitz, who has his own podcast, he
- 35:30Speaker 4: interviewed nets play by play announced so Westwood One play
- 35:34Speaker 4: by play announcer for NFL one of the best in
- 35:37Speaker 4: the business, Chris Carrino, and.
- 35:41Speaker 3: For his podcast, and he was talking. When he was
- 35:45Speaker 3: talking to Chris, somehow it came up that you know
- 35:48Speaker 3: cross where I you know, I worked for the NETS
- 35:50Speaker 3: And he mentioned some other people like Jimmy Lamparello and
- 35:53Speaker 3: Danny Harris and John murch who was their old their
- 35:57Speaker 3: former Uh, your director.
- 36:01Speaker 2: So I'm talking to a celebrity, is what I'm hearing.
- 36:03Speaker 3: No, you're not talking You're not talking to You're not
- 36:05Speaker 3: talking to celebrity. You're just talking to another guy, another
- 36:08Speaker 3: guy who loves the business of sport and who loves
- 36:12Speaker 3: sports on the field, court, ice, grid iron.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Well, I just want to clear that up because I
- 36:20Speaker 1: was pretty cool. You got to mention by Jay all right,
- 36:22Speaker 1: uh and Chris, all right, let's go to the ice
- 36:25Speaker 1: for a minute, because I've been saying for weeks now,
- 36:27Speaker 1: the garden's been changing it fire Drury at this point, Loui,
- 36:31Speaker 1: you have another letter come out and then your venera
- 36:34Speaker 1: being told he's not going to be extended. They've thrown
- 36:38Speaker 1: the towel, as you've said to me off there. But
- 36:40Speaker 1: is firing jury going to change anything? I don't know
- 36:43Speaker 1: what it's gonna change if they're already blown up, you.
- 36:47Speaker 3: May but one and the thing is, you know they
- 36:49Speaker 3: hired Mike Sullivan. Mike Sullivan has been a very successful coach,
- 36:54Speaker 3: almost like John Hobbor. When they hired Mike Sullivan, he
- 36:59Speaker 3: did not think that after the new year a couple
- 37:03Speaker 3: of weeks ago, he was going to be talking to
- 37:06Speaker 3: Chris Drewy and their longtime buddies that they were gonna
- 37:10Speaker 3: send a lot of season ticket holders saying that we
- 37:13Speaker 3: need to retool the team. That's why he left Pittsburgh
- 37:16Speaker 3: because it looked like Pittsburgh was going to retool the team.
- 37:19Speaker 3: But meanwhile, Pittsburgh since day one has had a very
- 37:23Speaker 3: good year. I mean, there was even talk about training
- 37:25Speaker 3: Cursby at the trade deadline this year. Well that's not happening.
- 37:29Speaker 3: And you know they are in the seventh or eighth
- 37:32Speaker 3: spot for the for the playoffs. I don't know if
- 37:36Speaker 3: Pittsburgh has the enough to get over the finish line
- 37:40Speaker 3: to make the playoffs, but they certainly didn't go into
- 37:44Speaker 3: a retool or rebuild situation. I mean, Alex, did you
- 37:50Speaker 3: ever think that the New York Islands would be eleven
- 37:52Speaker 3: points ahead of the New York Rangers. At this stage
- 37:54Speaker 3: and the season, it's almost hard to comprehend.
- 38:00Speaker 2: And that the terrible West Coast win.
- 38:02Speaker 1: I mean, it's been lost after loss and it's not
- 38:06Speaker 1: even it's not even good losses. I mean, we can
- 38:08Speaker 1: understand a loss that's close. They they don't even look competitive,
- 38:13Speaker 1: and as I'm not really watching that closely, but they
- 38:15Speaker 1: don't even look competitive right now.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Well, I mean they lost to an animal, a young
- 38:21Speaker 3: Anaheim team that's probably more that is more athletic than him,
- 38:26Speaker 3: in all likelihood faster than them. They lost. They lost
- 38:30Speaker 3: to a King's team. And the Kings are always tough
- 38:32Speaker 3: to play, especially you know in LA. But the range
- 38:37Speaker 3: that problems. Man, they do, uh and they have.
- 38:41Speaker 1: You've said the Molly Walker who continually updates us on
- 38:44Speaker 1: what line? I mean, she goes in depth. You get
- 38:46Speaker 1: the practice lines, you get the line.
- 38:48Speaker 2: I mean, first, she.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Worked hard, she is he works hard, always got it.
- 38:52Speaker 1: And even the quotes after the game I forward to
- 38:55Speaker 1: you and others that may not get them, like, man,
- 38:58Speaker 1: this is some interesting content she got even.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Through a rough year.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Maybe we should just stop celebrating one hundred seasons because
- 39:05Speaker 1: it's not worked out for the Giants or the Ring.
- 39:09Speaker 3: You're right, No, you're right.
- 39:11Speaker 1: And so by twenty sixty two, which is actually twenty
- 39:14Speaker 1: six dyslexic, maybe maybe we should not have the Mets
- 39:19Speaker 1: one hundred season in twenty sixty.
- 39:23Speaker 3: That's that, that is a very good point. But the
- 39:27Speaker 3: Rangers aren't free fall, the Rangers of the Arrows pointing
- 39:30Speaker 3: down the devil with the devils the average sideways. I
- 39:35Speaker 3: don't know if the Islands have enough to make the playoffs.
- 39:38Speaker 3: I don't think they do. I don't think I don't
- 39:39Speaker 3: think they'll make it. But even if they don't make it,
- 39:41Speaker 3: the Arrows definitely pointing out they've done a great job.
- 39:45Speaker 3: I mean, Palmery only played twenty five games. I think
- 39:50Speaker 3: now it's fourteen games without Horvat and then that you
- 39:56Speaker 3: know they need him, and they've still kept their ahead
- 39:59Speaker 3: of both ward. You know, Matthew Shaffer we talked about
- 40:03Speaker 3: a thousand times, and I'll throw another Matthew Shaeffer positive
- 40:06Speaker 3: statistic going going into this week, not counting the games
- 40:10Speaker 3: the last three four days, Matthew Shaeffer has drawn the
- 40:15Speaker 3: third most penalties in the NFL, I mean the NFL.
- 40:19Speaker 3: In the NHL. He has drawn the third most penalty.
- 40:22Speaker 1: It's okay, Louis I said the other day, Mendoza gonna
- 40:25Speaker 1: be drafted by the Las Vegas Knights, so we're on
- 40:27Speaker 1: the scene. Ah No, it's uh, he's physical, and I
- 40:32Speaker 1: know that hate that.
- 40:33Speaker 2: You hate that because he's such a young kid. But
- 40:35Speaker 2: he's physical.
- 40:36Speaker 1: He as that he survived a cross check and goes
- 40:38Speaker 1: in and scores the game winning goal. I mean, the
- 40:40Speaker 1: kids aggressive and they need that, but they all got
- 40:43Speaker 1: to pretend preserve his energy for future future seasons, you.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Know, absolutely so uh so, I mean, even if the
- 40:50Speaker 3: allenders don't make the playoffs, I still I think, uh,
- 40:53Speaker 3: the arrow was pointing up cal Ritchie has. You know
- 40:57Speaker 3: that was lou Lamarrello's last trade when he trade brought
- 41:00Speaker 3: Nelson to Colorado. By the way, Brock, Nelson's on an
- 41:03Speaker 3: incredible hot tear lately for you.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Oh, that West just looks more dominant in the East
- 41:08Speaker 1: right now.
- 41:09Speaker 3: It is. It is.
- 41:11Speaker 1: And that's not even talking about Connor and McDavid because
- 41:14Speaker 1: I don't even know what he you know, he's kind
- 41:16Speaker 1: of doing his own thing up in Edmonton right now.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Alex. He might score, he might score one hundred and
- 41:20Speaker 3: fifty points this year. I mean he might hit one fifty.
- 41:25Speaker 2: The likelihood of a three time.
- 41:28Speaker 1: You know, matchup between the Panthers and the Oilers is
- 41:31Speaker 1: a little likely, but will have to see.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Yeah, the Panthers are on Panthers are running on empty
- 41:37Speaker 3: so well, I mean they are out of a playoff
- 41:39Speaker 3: spot right now. They've actually been outscored this season. They
- 41:45Speaker 3: might be running on empty. But I'll tell you one thing,
- 41:47Speaker 3: the Pampa Bay is with all their injuries, with Headman out,
- 41:52Speaker 3: with Ryan mcdonno out, with Brendan point out. I mean
- 41:54Speaker 3: Headman has been out for a long time, so as McDonough,
- 41:57Speaker 3: I mean, they are they are cooking, and I think
- 42:01Speaker 3: they I think John Cooper is the best coach in
- 42:03Speaker 3: the National Hockey League. I really do. He's remarkable and
- 42:09Speaker 3: he's you know, he's gonna be the coach of Team
- 42:11Speaker 3: Canada in the Olympics against Mike Sullivan and another they were.
- 42:17Speaker 3: They went against each other in four nations last year.
- 42:20Speaker 1: So hopefully let's By the way, I gotta lay out
- 42:24Speaker 1: the sports calendar for everybody that may not be knowing.
- 42:27Speaker 1: We got the AMC NFC Championship. But you look to
- 42:29Speaker 1: forward to February. You've got Super Bowl, then you've got
- 42:33Speaker 1: the Olympics that takes us through to March. In March,
- 42:37Speaker 1: you have the World Baseball Classic, March Madness Spring Training. Uh,
- 42:42Speaker 1: and then in April we're back.
- 42:44Speaker 2: We're gonna have a lot.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Of funny here the next few months. It's like, finally,
- 42:47Speaker 1: there's not gonna be a dull moment after the super
- 42:49Speaker 1: Bowl for a while.
- 42:50Speaker 3: There will not be a dull moment. And that's that's
- 42:53Speaker 3: fine with me.
- 42:54Speaker 1: I'll be excited for that, all right. Speaking of owners, though,
- 42:58Speaker 1: can we just address what happened yesterday. I mean, you
- 43:01Speaker 1: fire McDermott up in Buffalo, and I think that that
- 43:05Speaker 1: was a long time coming after Saturday's loss. But then
- 43:09Speaker 1: you just make it messy of your pagola by throwing
- 43:11Speaker 1: everybody also like it was just shut up already and
- 43:14Speaker 1: just enjoy your new stadium, is what I was thinking, Alex.
- 43:18Speaker 3: That was one of the most bizarre, embarrassing press conferences
- 43:26Speaker 3: that I've that I've seen in a long time. It
- 43:30Speaker 3: really was Pagoula. He's the owner, to seem, but what
- 43:39Speaker 3: he did yesterday is stepping on the general manager Brandon
- 43:45Speaker 3: Bean ridiculous. I'm no fan of Brandon Bean. I think
- 43:50Speaker 3: that he probably gave you know, McDermott the old knife
- 43:55Speaker 3: in the back. McDermott, you know ninety eight and fifty.
- 43:59Speaker 3: Most teams would would walk on broken glass to have
- 44:03Speaker 3: a record like that. I don't think Josh Allen had
- 44:09Speaker 3: anything to do with the firing.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I think it will well, you know what, I applaud
- 44:12Speaker 1: him for saying quiet through all the drama, like he
- 44:14Speaker 1: just kept it zip. Well. He's no leader. He can't
- 44:19Speaker 1: start mouthing off against anybody. And I do believe though
- 44:23Speaker 1: he deserves better on that team. There's no doubt about it.
- 44:26Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it. Alex the only reason they
- 44:29Speaker 3: but they got. Yeah, he turned the ball over a
- 44:31Speaker 3: couple of times, and he had he never turns the
- 44:33Speaker 3: ball over in big spots, but he did. You know,
- 44:37Speaker 3: he did on on a Saturday. But he got He
- 44:40Speaker 3: gets no help. The only reason that they were able
- 44:44Speaker 3: to be in that game, turning the ball over five
- 44:46Speaker 3: times was because of him. Usually you do that, you're
- 44:51Speaker 3: getting uh, you know, you're getting wiped off the field.
- 44:53Speaker 3: But this was not a great Buffalo team we talked
- 44:58Speaker 3: about all year. They couldn't stop the run. They had
- 45:02Speaker 3: the wide receiver. They have no wide receivers that scare you.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Do you do you double? Uh? Do you game plan
- 45:08Speaker 3: for any of their wide receivers? The answer is no,
- 45:11Speaker 3: I don't care how good Josh Allen is and Uh McDermott.
- 45:18Speaker 3: About five or six weeks ago in a meeting with
- 45:20Speaker 3: Pagoula and and with Bean, they asked them, as this team,
- 45:25Speaker 3: I have a roster strong enough to go to the
- 45:26Speaker 3: super Bowl. And McDermott said no, I mean they might
- 45:31Speaker 3: have won because of Allen and and Uh.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And the you have a super Bowl caliber guy and
- 45:35Speaker 1: mkole Harmon up there. I mean, that's really all the
- 45:38Speaker 1: weaponry I know.
- 45:39Speaker 2: And then but.
- 45:40Speaker 3: McCole harmon's over the hill and he and he should
- 45:42Speaker 3: have made that catch on Saturday, which he didn't. But
- 45:49Speaker 3: they had to bring mcole Hartmon in late in the
- 45:51Speaker 3: season because they have nobody else. So what happened yesterday
- 45:57Speaker 3: is an embarrassment. And I don't know if they might
- 46:00Speaker 3: have to. Uh, you're not gonna see a bit. I
- 46:04Speaker 3: would be surprised if you see a major coach end
- 46:07Speaker 3: up there, like say a Tomlin or.
- 46:10Speaker 1: We're not a Dable Alan reunion that could be in
- 46:13Speaker 1: the works. We don't know that, but that.
- 46:15Speaker 3: I think that's a possibility. Dable's a safe choice, even
- 46:18Speaker 3: though we had a he had a Robert Salah unsuccessful
- 46:21Speaker 3: type tenure here, but that's I would not be surprised.
- 46:27Speaker 3: He's a safe choice. He's been in Buffalo, he was
- 46:30Speaker 3: Allen's offensive coordinator in the past. So Alex, I think
- 46:34Speaker 3: you're h you're right on the money with that.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Well, let me bookmark that in case it happens, and uh,
- 46:39Speaker 1: we'll replay that tape too. All Right, Lou, I've enjoyed
- 46:43Speaker 1: our wide ranging conversation, but we gotta end with this. Finally,
- 46:48Speaker 1: the Dodgers don't get somebody, and that somebody's Bellinger. He
- 46:51Speaker 1: does resign with the Yankees, we all act like, thank
- 46:54Speaker 1: god we got you know, the Yanks got him. But Lou,
- 46:58Speaker 1: I'm just hopeful let a revitalized infusion with as welldo
- 47:02Speaker 1: Cabrera can bring us over the top. I just I
- 47:06Speaker 1: know I shouldn't say us, but I'm a Yankee fan first,
- 47:09Speaker 1: as you know, so I can let that out a
- 47:11Speaker 1: little bit. I don't know Bellinger's being hyped as this
- 47:16Speaker 1: big return, But there.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Was nothing else the Yankees did this year, Loie.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Well nothing, I mean, uh, baseball's baseball is in a
- 47:26Speaker 3: little bit of a tough situation because we don't know
- 47:29Speaker 3: if a year from now, well they'll be preparing for
- 47:33Speaker 3: spring training or there'll be a lockout or strike or whatever.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Apparently Trump secured a deal for Greenland before the Dodgers did. Okay,
- 47:42Speaker 1: that's where we're at right now.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Well, I think I think you nailed that. You're correct.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Bellinger is a fine player, and I actually thought the
- 47:53Speaker 3: Mets were going to get him. But you know, he
- 47:57Speaker 3: signed a five year deal, which is really a two
- 47:59Speaker 3: year deal, you know, just like the set he signed
- 48:02Speaker 3: a three year deal, it's really a one year deal
- 48:04Speaker 3: because they have the opt outs. But the Yankees, the
- 48:09Speaker 3: Yankees needed Bellinger, and Bellinger is perfect for the Yankees.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Obviously we talked about these home and road splits. Uh,
- 48:16Speaker 3: he's perfect to the stadium, as you know, as a
- 48:19Speaker 3: left handed hither and he's and he's versatile, but he's
- 48:23Speaker 3: more and I agree with you, he's more of a
- 48:25Speaker 3: complimentary player.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Then he just keeps the line of stable right now,
- 48:31Speaker 1: that's the whole point.
- 48:32Speaker 3: Yes, that That's a good way of putting.
- 48:34Speaker 1: It, because if they lost him, that would have been
- 48:36Speaker 1: even more of a disaster. But it is sad that
- 48:39Speaker 1: the only thing that the Yanks can really, uh the
- 48:42Speaker 1: Yankee fans can really high bum about is the fact that.
- 48:46Speaker 2: They got Bellinger back.
- 48:47Speaker 1: That's really the only thing that happened. All right, all right,
- 48:51Speaker 1: let me let me ask you about this, because we
- 48:53Speaker 1: talked about it last year. What was the one thing
- 48:55Speaker 1: that we both agreed on? With the Mets, they have
- 48:58Speaker 1: the hitting shore, but the pitching was lacking. Now they're
- 49:02Speaker 1: rid of a few hitters like Alonzo and Nimo, but
- 49:04Speaker 1: at least they just solidify the rotation a bit With Parolta.
- 49:08Speaker 2: I'm kind of excited to see what this pitching staff
- 49:10Speaker 2: is now.
- 49:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think it was a good move. Again,
- 49:15Speaker 3: he is a free agent at the end of this year,
- 49:18Speaker 3: and it seems like we are going the deals the
- 49:21Speaker 3: last couple of years. Even Alonso last year had three
- 49:24Speaker 3: year deal with a one year opt out. These deals
- 49:29Speaker 3: are shorter now that the Mets are inheriting a deal
- 49:33Speaker 3: from from Milwaukee with Parolta. I like Parolta. I mean,
- 49:39Speaker 3: he's solid, he gives I would say he's like a
- 49:42Speaker 3: number two. He's not an ace, he's not a number one.
- 49:45Speaker 3: He's not a struble or or when Garrett Cole was
- 49:49Speaker 3: healthy and Garrett Cole type number one. But is the
- 49:55Speaker 3: Mets pitching staff better today than it was yesterday? With
- 49:58Speaker 3: I question it is? I always liked Boba Schett always.
- 50:04Speaker 3: I mean, he's never played third, but.
- 50:05Speaker 2: He's Louis Robert is a good requisition.
- 50:08Speaker 1: But you know, it's funny Cohen also touting these moves
- 50:14Speaker 1: like they made the best moves. Again, they're they're moves
- 50:18Speaker 1: that keep a team stable in there in the season.
- 50:20Speaker 1: They're not outstanding, Oh my god, we improve moves.
- 50:23Speaker 2: They're kind of like, well.
- 50:25Speaker 1: We'll compete.
- 50:26Speaker 2: We'll see how far we get those type of moves.
- 50:28Speaker 2: You know, I don't know it.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Just yeah, I mean, you know, I can't believe, you know,
- 50:33Speaker 3: obviously they're not gonna have as many home runs as
- 50:35Speaker 3: they did last year. I mean, you had Sot hit
- 50:38Speaker 3: forty three and you had Alonzo hit what he hit
- 50:43Speaker 3: thirty seven thirty eight last year. I mean, that's a
- 50:46Speaker 3: lot of home runs between two guys, even in this
- 50:48Speaker 3: day and age of them.
- 50:48Speaker 2: And I think, but can produce for you. I really do.
- 50:51Speaker 3: I'm a big fan. I mean, the guy led the
- 50:54Speaker 3: Markling and hits twice. He was going to lead him
- 50:56Speaker 3: again last year, but he you know, he hurt himself
- 50:59Speaker 3: on number eighth. Uh. He fought his way back to
- 51:02Speaker 3: playing the World Series. He hit that home run off
- 51:04Speaker 3: of Otani. He's a gamer. I like him. I think
- 51:08Speaker 3: it's a positive thing for the Mets. Are they are
- 51:11Speaker 3: the Mets and Yankees done yet? I don't know. I
- 51:15Speaker 3: don't know if they are so. So it'll be Alex.
- 51:21Speaker 3: He'll be interesting because we don't know after this year
- 51:24Speaker 3: when we'll see baseball nets.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Right. Well, that's the thing I want to line up
- 51:28Speaker 1: that Judge can actually win with because the lockout could
- 51:31Speaker 1: be another year wasted of Judge's career.
- 51:34Speaker 3: That yeah, that's correct. I mean, I think we talked
- 51:37Speaker 3: about it in a different sport. You know. Avechkin is
- 51:40Speaker 3: you know now he's got nine hundred and fifteen, nine
- 51:42Speaker 3: hundred and sixteen goals, but his rookie year was supposed
- 51:45Speaker 3: to be the lockout of the year. That went down
- 51:46Speaker 3: to drain the lockout year the two thousand and four
- 51:48Speaker 3: two thousand and five season. So say if he's scored
- 51:51Speaker 3: forty goals as a rookie, he would be he would
- 51:53Speaker 3: be be around nine to fifty five somewhere in there.
- 51:56Speaker 3: So again, you're right about Judge that that will affect
- 51:59Speaker 3: his his stats, and he's not getting any younger. You know,
- 52:02Speaker 3: Judge is thirty three. And you know what's yeld saying
- 52:06Speaker 3: Father time is undefeated?
- 52:08Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Louis well speaking of nine hundred something.
- 52:14Speaker 1: I'm glad he said that because one guy I keep
- 52:17Speaker 1: saying good luck to every few months, Rick Patino, is
- 52:20Speaker 1: on his way to win nine hundred. And look, I'm
- 52:23Speaker 1: kind of glad the Seaton Hall of Saint John's rivalry
- 52:25Speaker 1: is competitive again.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Saint John's had their number a.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Couple of years there, but Jean's got that Seaton Hall
- 52:32Speaker 1: team up and running almost full steam ahead. I mean,
- 52:34Speaker 1: they look good compared the way of their last couple
- 52:37Speaker 1: of years. So I'm glad it was a competitive game.
- 52:39Speaker 1: And I guess Saint John's came back from fifteen down.
- 52:42Speaker 1: That's impressive considering they've had some struggles. But so Saturday
- 52:47Speaker 1: in the Xavier, they could get coach nine hundred wins.
- 52:53Speaker 1: That would be quite a feat against his son. But
- 52:55Speaker 1: could his son do it? Could he knock off his
- 52:56Speaker 1: father in that game?
- 52:58Speaker 3: Sure he could, Sure he could it, definitely could. It's
- 53:01Speaker 3: really ironic that when number nine hundred is coming against
- 53:04Speaker 3: his kid.
- 53:06Speaker 1: But if it doesn't, I might actually get tickets to
- 53:08Speaker 1: the Garden because I see they're here next Wednesday against Butler,
- 53:11Speaker 1: and I try and go to that to see if
- 53:13Speaker 1: I get to see one nine hundred there.
- 53:15Speaker 2: So we'll see how the cards may fall this weekend.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Now you lead me, you lead me to another situation.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Now he's going for nine hundred on Saturday, a fantastic achievement,
- 53:26Speaker 3: but they took some victories away from him for I
- 53:31Speaker 3: don't know if either at louis Yeah, Louisville.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Oh, Louisville because of the FBI situation.
- 53:36Speaker 3: Yeah, And again I don't know, Alex. The way college
- 53:41Speaker 3: sports is nowadays, with guys getting paid, there's really no
- 53:45Speaker 3: rules with guys not going to classic words.
- 53:48Speaker 1: If Reggie Bush could get his his heisman back, why
- 53:51Speaker 1: not give Patino back his wins? After this?
- 53:54Speaker 3: Absolutely, Patino Beheim all those guys. I mean, there's probably
- 53:59Speaker 3: one hundred guys like.
- 54:00Speaker 1: To give give and I know it's a different situation.
- 54:03Speaker 1: But give the kids who had nothing to do with
- 54:04Speaker 1: the but the Penn State situation. Give those kids the
- 54:08Speaker 1: winds back.
- 54:09Speaker 3: You know that, without question.
- 54:11Speaker 1: That vacating really pissed me off because you were punishing
- 54:14Speaker 1: kids that had no idea what Jerry Sandusky was doing.
- 54:18Speaker 1: And by the way, today's Jay Paterno's anniversary of his passing,
- 54:22Speaker 1: I believe today. So that's interesting we're talking about it.
- 54:25Speaker 3: And a great He was a great man.
- 54:28Speaker 2: He really was, no matter what they say. And I've
- 54:30Speaker 2: had Jay on before and obviously I have a very.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Contrary to other people, I have a very respect for
- 54:37Speaker 1: the paternal family.
- 54:37Speaker 3: You always have me too.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I do too, And so you know, give those kids
- 54:43Speaker 1: winds back. Who else could I think of that? You know,
- 54:48Speaker 1: they've just taken away from because of things and and
- 54:52Speaker 1: of course the other thing that I'm thinking of now
- 54:54Speaker 1: I talk about them, I l and all that, the
- 54:56Speaker 1: gambling thing.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Let the kids do whatever they want.
- 55:00Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but if we're gonna partner with gambling uh
- 55:03Speaker 1: rings like fandol and all that, let the let the
- 55:06Speaker 1: players do what they want. Stop punishing them if you're
- 55:08Speaker 1: allowing it already, Well again.
- 55:10Speaker 3: But again, Alex. Alex, That's why I would disagree with you. You
- 55:13Speaker 3: can't fix games. You can't throw points, you can't shave points.
- 55:17Speaker 3: That's that that that affects the integrity.
- 55:20Speaker 1: Let me say.
- 55:23Speaker 3: That.
- 55:23Speaker 1: In my view though, it's like you're punishing someone where
- 55:28Speaker 1: the gateways.
- 55:29Speaker 2: There is the point I'm trying to make, Okay, I mean,
- 55:33Speaker 2: but uh.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I don't think they have to fix the games at all,
- 55:37Speaker 1: but I feel like the punishment should then be doled
- 55:40Speaker 1: out to the league for partnering with them in the
- 55:42Speaker 1: beginning to begin with.
- 55:43Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, again, the gambling situation is out of
- 55:50Speaker 3: control in sports, and we knew that shit like that,
- 55:55Speaker 3: crap like this was gonna happen.
- 55:57Speaker 1: I mean, we don't even know where this class a
- 55:58Speaker 1: situation is gonna go. But it's gonna be serious if
- 56:01Speaker 1: he's really uh. I know they suspended him, but it
- 56:04Speaker 1: could be worse for him.
- 56:05Speaker 3: Alex will never see him again pitching the major leagues.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I mean, they could still be jail time at the
- 56:11Speaker 1: end of these investigations.
- 56:13Speaker 3: Absolutely, yeah, they could all.
- 56:15Speaker 2: For throwing a pitch.
- 56:17Speaker 1: Did they not learn from nineteen nineteen? You know, It's
- 56:19Speaker 1: just it's it's a mess. But for the ones that
- 56:23Speaker 1: earn it, that don't fix it, give their wins back,
- 56:26Speaker 1: I think is the point you're trying to make.
- 56:28Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely, yes, that's the point. Yeah.
- 56:31Speaker 1: H And Patino, you know, I thought he was kind
- 56:33Speaker 1: of rod. How about Sean Miller or whatever his name
- 56:37Speaker 1: was out in Arizona who was wired to at by
- 56:40Speaker 1: the FBI. And I'm thinking to myself, you're wired talking
- 56:43Speaker 1: being an NCAA basketball coach while letting real tragedies happen
- 56:48Speaker 1: by falling by not falling up on tips. I mean,
- 56:51Speaker 1: the psyche of some of these institutions really bothers me sometimes.
- 56:54Speaker 3: So yeah, no, I sympathize with those situations, no doubt
- 57:02Speaker 3: about it.
- 57:03Speaker 2: In the na L we'll see what happens, but.
- 57:06Speaker 1: We always saw how badly he got with the gm
- 57:08Speaker 1: of of Saint John's.
- 57:10Speaker 2: That was kind of crazy, that story.
- 57:11Speaker 3: But well Patino says he knew nothing about about it.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Oh, I believe it. I know Patino would not let
- 57:17Speaker 2: that happen.
- 57:17Speaker 3: But Alex, like John Harbot, is the New York Giants
- 57:21Speaker 3: and he is running the whole show. Rick Patino is
- 57:25Speaker 3: running the whole show. I would I would, I'm really
- 57:27Speaker 3: I would have to. I'm a little skeptical that he
- 57:30Speaker 3: did not know what was going on.
- 57:33Speaker 1: The other Jim, how about Jim Harbor and and the
- 57:36Speaker 1: Michigan disaster.
- 57:37Speaker 2: By the way, the ad could be really in hot
- 57:39Speaker 2: water here.
- 57:40Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll see. I mean, these scandals happened, and
- 57:45Speaker 1: you realize how widespread, Like it's not just Michigan football.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Then they're investigating everything in Michigan. It's just it's amazing
- 57:52Speaker 1: what these investigators lead to.
- 57:53Speaker 3: You know, Oh, well, out of that opens up a
- 57:56Speaker 3: can of worms.
- 57:58Speaker 1: And uh and then so there's that what else on
- 58:01Speaker 1: the show? Hey thing, you can keep talking about that too, show.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Hey did he know about the gambling situation with this interpreter?
- 58:07Speaker 1: I mean, come on, he has Yeah, you're like, no
- 58:12Speaker 1: MLB network, everybody glazed over him. Joe Davis gets to
- 58:16Speaker 1: call Dodger World Series games and glaze over him.
- 58:19Speaker 2: There it's And I love his football. I love that
- 58:22Speaker 2: he's so Bertil and co can do football and baseball.
- 58:25Speaker 1: But I wish you woulduld be taking off the Dodger
- 58:27Speaker 1: stuff because it gets a little nauseating at times.
- 58:29Speaker 3: I hate to say, I guess I disagree with you.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and by the way, who was the team? Who
- 58:38Speaker 1: was the guy announcing you Miami versus Notre Dame? After
- 58:41Speaker 1: I had to hear him call the freaking Rangers loose
- 58:44Speaker 1: to the Panthers Sean McDonough, I'm like, are you kidding me?
- 58:47Speaker 1: I have to listen to this guy doing the fall anyway,
- 58:50Speaker 1: I digress.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Uh No, McDonald's a great announcer, Alex.
- 58:55Speaker 1: He's fantastic, And just when he calls your team on
- 58:57Speaker 1: the other side, it's like, which, what are you trying
- 59:01Speaker 1: to do to me? I want to send some win.
- 59:03Speaker 2: From the guy. But anyway, we'll see what happens.
- 59:06Speaker 1: Anyway, Louis, this has been a great Terminalo's take. We
- 59:08Speaker 1: went an hour, uh, just to kick off this year,
- 59:12Speaker 1: so how about that or second week of the year.
- 59:15Speaker 3: Hey, I love talking to you the third.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Week of the year.
- 59:18Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 59:19Speaker 2: But yeah, we went an hour long because we haven't
- 59:20Speaker 2: talked in a little bit.
- 59:21Speaker 1: So I'm glad we had this catchup and uh and
- 59:23Speaker 1: yous want to add on Totermino's take before we're done.
- 59:26Speaker 3: Well, I just see here your one of your favorites.
- 59:28Speaker 3: Tommy Reese is now the new offensive coordinator for Kevin
- 59:31Speaker 3: Stefanski in Atlanta.
- 59:34Speaker 1: You know, that's a guy I really want to meet
- 59:36Speaker 1: one day. So maybe that'll happen. Because I grew up
- 59:38Speaker 1: watching and listening to Tommy Reese and Don Crickie call
- 59:42Speaker 1: his game.
- 59:42Speaker 3: So Tommy Reese is getting closer and closer to a
- 59:45Speaker 3: head coaching job. I mean he's still a young man.
- 59:47Speaker 3: I think he's like thirty three or thirty four. I
- 59:50Speaker 3: mean he's still very very well.
- 59:51Speaker 1: When Alabama hires you, you're good stuff. I'll tell you that.
- 59:53Speaker 3: Yeah, now he's got he's got an impressive resume.
- 59:57Speaker 1: And I see, I guess he followed Stefanski to Atlanta.
- 59:59Speaker 1: So good fan, Good to see that how it all
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: shakes out. And you're right, we still have a lot
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: of coaching vacancy. So that's what we got to keep
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: an eye on for the next shop.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: And here's another breaking news. The Washington Nationals are trading
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: All star left hander Mackenzie Gore, who was linked to
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: the Mets, but apparently they wanted a boat load back
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: to the Texas Rangers for five players. They're not mentioned here.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: This' just broke.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I saw that as we're talking. All right,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Lou always a pleasure, and we'll do this again next week.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: Alex, you're the best. I appreciate it. Thank you, Pal
