- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the very cold garage.
- 0:31And we're in here because it's dark and the reason it's dark
- 0:34and it's well obviously day 6 of some food for thought.
- 0:38I thought this was perfect because it's dark, it's cold and
- 0:43today marks the winter solstice. It is December 21st and it is
- 0:48the longest night of the year. So we are here still in the dark
- 0:54talking about this. And this brings up a really
- 0:58great food for thought this today because, you know,
- 1:01obviously we all can use these metaphors, the Dark Knights, all
- 1:06of these things, but fear really does come into play with this.
- 1:09So when you think about fear, nobody wants fear.
- 1:14And as you've heard me say many times before, all our emotions
- 1:16are useful. All our emotions are here to
- 1:18help us, but part of the challenge we have and that we
- 1:22have to think about this year so we can control it and move
- 1:26through it, is that fear comes forth to teach you something.
- 1:30It's supposed to help you. It's supposed to move you in
- 1:32case of danger. That's the original intent for
- 1:35it like to to pay attention to danger and move through it.
- 1:38But what happens when you start to use fear and you start to
- 1:42terrorize yourself? You sit with it and you just
- 1:44lament on it. You go over and over.
- 1:46It becomes the long night, it becomes the longest night.
- 1:50It becomes the thing you're just thinking about all the time and
- 1:53your imagination and creativity are sitting near it and they're
- 1:57all having this conversation about how horrible things could
- 2:00be and they're not arguing for your greatness.
- 2:03They're arguing for the limitations, they're arguing for
- 2:05the what ifs and it goes on and on and on and it produces
- 2:09anxiety and before you know it, you are not sleeping and it and
- 2:14the longest night is all the time and you just drag through
- 2:18it. It is a very, very interesting
- 2:21thing when you break it down and you start to think about how it
- 2:24starts. Because where we go back to the
- 2:27root beginning, it was trying to just tell us one thing, two
- 2:30things that we might be have to get out right down, sit there
- 2:33and say, OK, but there's nothing we can do about it because you
- 2:35can't worry enough to change it. Whatever's happening, you can't
- 2:38worry enough to change it and lament it and keep going over
- 2:42and over and over and over because it's not going to help.
- 2:45And I, I tend to think when this starts to happen that they
- 2:50become the terrorist. And when you think about a
- 2:53terrorist, part of the, the, the, the power that they hold is
- 3:00in, in what never has happened yet.
- 3:02They start to put the fear in you, but it hasn't happened yet.
- 3:06And yes, there are some that cross the line and they do
- 3:08things. Yes, yes, yes, it all happens.
- 3:10But I'm talking about the, a big chunk of the fear is that they
- 3:15threaten you. It's a threat and you have to
- 3:18stay on heightened alert. It's that constant action that
- 3:22they put out there to just put you in a place of speculation
- 3:26and constantly worrying about it.
- 3:28And it runs rampant in your head.
- 3:30And the power that they that that motion possesses is in the
- 3:34fear, but it doesn't happen. And the fear just takes over.
- 3:40So on these longest nights, on these places that get so heavy
- 3:45for us on the things that we think about over and over, it is
- 3:50imperative to recognize that you've got to get it out of your
- 3:53head. You've got to put it onto paper.
- 3:55You've got to put it someplace that you don't have to look at
- 3:58it. You you don't have to think
- 3:59about it. You just have to see it in that
- 4:01one moment and you have to say, OK, it's on the paper.
- 4:04And now is this valid? Is this a valid thing for me to
- 4:07keep thinking about while I'm supposed to be sleeping?
- 4:10Should I let this go? Should I move past this?
- 4:12And the answer is yes, because the power that we possess as
- 4:16humans is in the moment. And it and that moment can take
- 4:19place during the longest night. That moment can take place at
- 4:22any point in time. That moment is now the moment
- 4:26that I'm with you standing in the garage getting ready to, you
- 4:30know, pack up the chicken screwed in the morning and go
- 4:32out and talk to them as soon as they, you know, have sun, some
- 4:35sunshine out there. And that moment is the moment I
- 4:39can stay in. And we always have the we always
- 4:42have the present moment to go to.
- 4:44That's why I love that phrase where, you know, this moment is
- 4:48the present. And that word has two meanings.
- 4:52It's like the now, but it also is the gift.
- 4:54And the moment is the gift. And I really believe that if I
- 4:58can stay in the this moment, I will find the gifts.
- 5:02I will find the peace. I will find the the way to
- 5:05release the anxiety because believe, believe me, I
- 5:08throughout my life until I understood a lot of this.
- 5:11And even now, I still have those times where I have the darkest,
- 5:15longest nights and I have to pull myself out of it.
- 5:18And rather than sitting there and lamenting all of it, it's
- 5:22write it down, get up, get it out and move on.
- 5:25So as we go into this winter solstice, my friends, some food
- 5:29for thought. Don't make the longest night all
- 5:32the time and celebrate the fact that we are now moving in to the
- 5:35most my most beautiful time of the year, which is spring.
- 5:38We're going to start to go through this winter and we are
- 5:41going to close it down and get ready for spring.
- 5:44So I hope you all have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:47Bye.
