- speaker-0: Hey, welcome back into Average Home Theater. I am Nelson. speaker-1: Hey, what's up everybody? It's producer Nick back at it again. Feeling we haven't done this in a little while. speaker-0: Well, i i I was on vacation. speaker-1: Some people take vacations. Right. speaker-0: And and I had this brilliant idea. Nobody has ever thought of this topic ever. Ever. This is an exclusive to the average home theater. That's not true. Maybe, maybe. But I was like, you know, I'm on vacation. I want to talk about vacation movies. Yeah. And not just National Lampoon, Chevy Chase vacation movies. speaker-1: Yeah. Right. Vacation inspired movies, vacation movies about vacations. speaker-0: I I I told you I said, let's do movies that are either about a vacation or movies that remind you of vacation or you know, something like that. I mean this is not like a yeah. A little casual conversation on what vacation movies. Correct, what vacation movies we like. speaker-1: Yeah. Not a really strictly. So listen, having said that, I was thinking, ⁓ yeah, that won't be too bad. I had as easy as you think. No, I struggled. So one which I know you're gonna have the same one, one movie when you when you suggested the topic immediately came to mind. It's not that this is a ranking or anything, but it's my immediate favorite. It's the one I'm gonna talk about first when we get to that point. But after that it was kind of rough. Like I had to Do some research and look through my collection and ⁓ and like there's some of ⁓ like, Okay, it's a road trip, but does this really count? 'Cause it's not really about that. So there's a couple of them that I'm gonna mention that I I don't think ultimately probably don't even fall into the category. ⁓ yeah, much much more difficult. And then and we talked about also like movies that make us think about vacations and things like that. I didn't we didn't take a lot of vacations as a kid. And when we did it was like we went to we went to Disney, ⁓ and we would do stuff like go to Toledo Bend and go fishing and all that stuff. So those kind of things like there was no we didn't I guess we didn't Right. Exactly. And when we were Yeah. speaker-0: Road trips really it's I started taking them a right around a teenager with my sister when she was you know she was much older so she was able to start taking us on vacations and then as a young adult to now like we take vacations. Yeah. You know, so I didn't grow up taking vacations necessarily. ⁓ it was kind of like you we go to the beach like ⁓ Holly Beach, you know, that type of thing. speaker-1: Sipamore Point. ⁓ And we like you and I had taken some trips in our like high school just after holl high school. We would go to Astro World when that was open, go take a day trip to Astro World. So we did a came to un went to Universal. ⁓ we did the we did our Star Wars trip, me and you and ⁓ Delta Henry. That was ⁓ that's a core memory. That was a lot of fun. speaker-0: Name the Universal Studios with me. Yeah it was. It was at the beginning of when Galaxy's Edge was only open like what a month? speaker-1: Yeah, it hadn't been long. The the ne the ride hadn't been open yet. ⁓ correct. What is it? Rise of the resistance, I think. speaker-0: Of the resistance wasn't even so we've gone to Galaxy's Edge and weren't able to ride that damn ride because it wasn't even open yet. Yeah. speaker-1: So yeah, vacations when I was younger or growing up, whatever, weren't really like tied in the movies. So I didn't have a lot. Now I do have one on that list, ⁓ well two that makes me think about a trip that was taken. But ⁓ other than that, I think I have a decent list, but I'll and I again I'll mention a couple that probably don't belong. We'll see. speaker-0: Well we'll just go we'll go one for one. Yeah, yeah. I'll do one, you do one. I'll do one, you do one. I think I only have like ⁓ see one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. I have like some honorable mention types, you know, that don't really fit with that's I wanna talk about the ones that actually make me feel like vacation or when I'm on vacation, make me feel like watching the movie. speaker-1: And and and again, go back to the the premise, not holiday movies, like not a Christmas movie. Right. Not National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Unless right. So so let's hear yours, your first one, and let's see if it matches the same thing that came into my mind when I heard the topic. speaker-0: Summer vacation. So this is my so you wanna go with like which one is number one? Or you wanna start at the the bottom and then work our way up? speaker-1: ⁓ whi whichever, whichever. speaker-0: I'm gonna start at the bottom. Okay. I'm gonna start at the bottom. speaker-1: So I didn't really do a ranking, so I'll I'll save my my speaker-0: I didn't really do ranking either, but what I'm looking at, I know which one I I'm the ones that I kind of spouted off first, obviously, those have to be at the top. Gotcha. But ⁓ anyway, this one, since I went to the beach, I thought of it. I went to the beach twice. I was there for a week, but I actually went in the water twice because I hate I'm like Anakin. I hate the sand. And jaws, while I was there, there was all there would we were. I mean, it was a crowded beach, right? There was probably a hundred people around me. speaker-1: Dun speaker-0: And I'm like, okay, I'm on the sandbar and I'm surrounded by people. So they'll start getting eaten first, and I can make it back to speaker-1: There will be warning, there'll be time. speaker-0: I just have to be faster or or farther away than they are. Yeah. But yes, while I was in the water, I'm just looking around, just thinking of jaws the whole time. speaker-1: Look. Second movie on my list, maybe I mean top five all time movie. ⁓ absolutely. Possibly a perfect movie. One of my all time favorites. Just watched it for the fourth of July. speaker-0: Well that's thing. I and that's why I I at first I was like, I don't know if this is a vacation movie because I watch it for the Fourth of July. I don't really watch it for summer vacation, but while I was at the beach I kept thinking of Jaws. Yeah. You know? So speaker-1: So and I've been we were kinda talking about this a little a little while ago before we started recording. I've been re watching like classics and things that I grew up with, things that I really enjoyed in my younger days. And Jaws is one of those. I watched it for the Fourth of July and I I've I've been having a bad habit of just like having things on and kind of looking at it but not really watching it. But I sat down and really, really watched Jaws this time o among others. But I I sat down and really watched Jaws and man, I it's it's it's awesome. It's just it's truly awesome. speaker-0: It's a masterpiece. I can definitely see how some people would have an issue with its pacing because it does get kind of slow in some parts, but I just enjoy watching the actors and their performances. So yeah, I don't mind the slow parts. Yeah. You know, when they're talking on the boat, comparing their scars, and then he tells the USS ⁓ whatever it is, ⁓ Indianapolis story. And yeah. So I I I think the movie's great. speaker-1: And and how awesome everyone should know the story about, you know, the the mechanical shark Bruce and how it broke down so it caused caused them to f to show it on screen a whole lot less. Like what a wonderful happy accident because to me that's what makes it. It's perfection. the less is more, the less you see of it, the scarier it gets. It Well, yeah. Richard Dreyfus speaker-0: He okay. So yeah, he's probably gonna make another appearance. speaker-1: He's gonna make another appearance. speaker-0: I just figured out what you're talking about. speaker-1: I blew it. ⁓ yeah, you you cannot go wrong with Jaws. No. I one of the ones that I have on my list is ⁓ it's a classic to me and it involves a road trip, not really a vacation movie, but a classic comedy that stands up that you can watch over and over again. I put Dumb and Dumber on my list. ⁓ not a vacation. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: But a road trip and it's really not even about that, but it kinda is. But as I was looking through movies and kinda struggling to come up with a like a bottom half of my list, I I put ⁓ I put Dumb and Dumber on there. Again, something that I re watched recently and laughed just as hard this time as I did the first time I ever saw it. speaker-0: My seven year old daughter thought it was hilarious. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. And yeah. Comedy usually doesn't transfer over generations, but that's one that you can really watch that in any time at any age and speaker-0: Definitely has that road trip feel because that's what it is. They go on a road trip. speaker-1: Trip adventure. Going across the country to Aspen. Something warm. Where the beer flows like wine. speaker-0: But the fur when he says someplace warm, I almost piss myself every time. Where are we going? I'll tell you. speaker-1: And then they end up in like Nebraska and he says that John Denver's full of shit, man. Every time. Gets me every time. So yeah, I didn't I wasn't sure that really qualified, but you know, road trip movie, two guys on the road trying to speaker-0: It gives you a vacation vibe, I guess I will allow it. speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ yeah, probably not the best pick for this list, but all of my ones are you know, and they're all they all seem to be kinda kinda comedies in the comedy. Yeah. speaker-0: Most of them are. So I have one that's not, but so my next one is hilarious. And I don't know if you've ever seen it. Okay. ⁓ but it's specifically a road trip vacation movie, and that is R V with Robin Williams. speaker-1: have seen that. I have seen that. It's been a while and I don't really remember it, but I have seen it. ⁓ Robin Williams, Nick Offerman, ⁓ speaker-0: The movie is hilarious. No no no no no no no no no no no you're thinking you're thinking of We're the Miller. Yeah R V is ⁓ is dumb and dumb or Jeff Daniels. Yeah, Jeff Daniels and I forget his wife's name. She's the the singer, the little blonde lady, she's a country singer. And then ⁓ RFK's wife, what's her name? Cheryl Hines plays Robin Williams' wife. speaker-1: ⁓ he was in within Miller's. Okay. Jeff Daniels was in it. Heinz, Cheryl Heinz. ⁓ Nettles Jennifer Nettles, ⁓ is that who you're thinking of, the singer? Miranda Lambert. I'm trying to think of country singers that I've seen in movies. I look I've seen it but man it's speaker-0: You know, there's this wonderful invention called IMDB. speaker-1: ⁓ yes. speaker-0: going to ⁓ look look it up real quick because it'll take Kristen Chinowith. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah. The one with the the little tiny lady with the squeaky boots. Yeah. That's speaker-0: Yeah. Right. Hilarious movie. I love it. Jamie and I watch it. Well, it's been a while since we've watched it, but we at one point we were watching that like crazy. Every summer. Just it was one of our, you know, go to bed relax movies. We turn on R V. It's a comfort. speaker-1: Yeah, I've yeah, I've definitely seen it, but I I really don't remember I remember Robin Williams is in it. Well Yeah. I'll try to have to try to check that out again. next on my list I'm going through kind of the ⁓ the honorable mentions at this point, I guess. ⁓ the lower the lower sections. ⁓ I have perfect getaway on my list. speaker-0: I think you need to remedy the remedy that. I'll fix that. speaker-1: ⁓ with ⁓ Steve Zahn and Timothy Oliphant when they're they're on their honeymoon backpacking wherever it was and there's ⁓ speaker-0: And the people aren't who they seem to be. Right. speaker-1: Right, right. ⁓ you had you had told me about that. I had never heard of it. That was my introduction to ⁓ that was my introduction to Timothy Oliphant, I had never seen him in anything else. ⁓ and then Steve Zahn, who's great, however, it's I had never seen him in a in a more serious role before. ⁓ I mean I knew him from ⁓ what's the what's the speaker-0: Really? And ⁓ what's her name? ⁓ yeah. speaker-1: The Jack Black movie where they were saving Silverman with Arlie Ermy impaled the guy with a with a ⁓ a down marker from a football. Yeah. ⁓ so yeah, ⁓ just ⁓ going through my movies going that struck me as ⁓ they were on vacation, they were ⁓ I don't remember I don't think it was a was it a hunt there was a honeymoon. ⁓ I think it was a honeymoon. ⁓ but that one made my list. speaker-0: Saving silver. Down marker, yeah, yeah. speaker-1: Again, kind of the the lower end of ⁓ of things. So yeah. speaker-0: Give us good one. Give us give us a good one. speaker-1: ⁓ a good one. This is something that I always really enjoyed every time I've seen it. It's more or less about a road trip is ⁓ Little Miss Sunshine. speaker-0: You know, I've never seen it. I I know I remember you liking it a lot. Yeah. But I've never I don't think I ever sat down and watched it. speaker-1: Seen it a bunch of times. you I know you like Alan Arkin. Old crotchety bastard. ⁓ Alan Arkin was in it, he was great. ⁓ Greg Kinnear was was really good. He plays the dad. ⁓ Paul Dano, speaker-0: Yeah, I know, I know. ⁓ I didn't know he was in that. speaker-1: Yeah, Paul Dano as a as a younger guy. He was actually probably my favorite character, just the the stuff that he goes through. And then another I'm a sucker for a a mostly comedic actor playing in a serious role. Steve Carell's in it. he plays a really serious, kind of serious role. ⁓ and it's a funny movie without being a comedy, I guess. ⁓ and the the the story is is the little girl played by Abigail Breslin. One of her first roles when she was real young. she gets into this, you know, the family's going through financial trouble and and all this other stuff. And she gets ⁓ invited to go to this beauty pageant, the state beauty pageant that she had wanted to get into. And well, they decide, okay, we're all gonna go together, we're gonna take a road trip. And Steve Carell's there, he's going through some stuff. He's the uncle who's staying with them temporarily while he deals with some things. He ends up going, Grandpa has to go, Alan Arkin. ⁓ just a just a fun little movie, lots of heart. again, funny without being a comedy, and then you you know, you're you're kinda really pulling for him to make it, and then whatever happens at the end kinda speaker-0: 'Cause 'cause I'm starting to remember the beauty pageant part of it. So I think I may have actually watched it. I just don't really remember much about it. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. So I had that one, ⁓ that one on there. I mean I look, I have stuff like Civil War. Civil War is by no means a vacation movie, but they sure went on a trip, didn't they? They traveled across the country. I mean that's that's that's the bottom half of my list. ⁓ Yeah. speaker-0: Hilarious. Well, hey, I have on on the bottom half of my list the hitcher. speaker-1: Okay. speaker-0: Remember he's he's driving that vehicle cross country. Yeah it's it's hot, it's in the desert. It kinda gives you that that road trip feel, but that's really on that's a stretch. That's on the bottom of the list. speaker-1: Yeah, and that's I have some some stretch movies. ⁓ Zombie Land is another one of my stretch movies. speaker-0: Yeah, but I can I can get behind it. Yeah. You know, I can get behind it. It it definitely I can see how it makes you feel like just taking a road trip. Yeah. You know, growing going cross country with some friends and apocalypse. Hey, let's let's just get in a car and go what el whatever the hell else we're gonna do, you know? speaker-1: In the midst of the Let's go try to find a safe spot where there aren't flesh eating human people. ⁓ speaker-0: ⁓ But on a more serious note I I say serious note. On a more ⁓ a more serious pick film. speaker-1: On topic notes. speaker-0: Right. ⁓ this movie, every time I watch it, I think of Vacation and I just watched it again. It's it's one of my wife and I are it's one of our comfort movies and it's The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. And it's because we love Universal Studios so much. We love the mummy ride and you know they have the guys on stilts and they have a Noxuna moon ⁓ all moon walking around all the time. So speaker-1: Yeah, okay. speaker-0: We just every time I watch the mummy, I just think of Universal Studios and Vacation. Every time speaker-1: Good. That's a really good pick and a really good reason to land on the list. That's good. speaker-0: So whenever every time I turn it on, Jamie's like, Ooh, we're watching the mummy because it just gives us that Yeah you know Yeah, we feel like we're there, man. And you know, we've been going to Universal Studios since I was sixteen years old, at least every other year or so. I mean we we go so much. Yeah. It's my wife's favorite place, it's my daughter's now her favorite place. And just every time I watch the mummy, I think of vacation. Every time speaker-1: Yeah. You feel like you're there. I it. I like it. Yeah. So so I have two movies on my list that are like that. which by the way, also let's not forget to talk about how awesome the mummy is. It's just a mummy. It's just fantastic. The best of the three speaker-0: Great. From one to two. I mean, because two is better than three, but it's really not that good. It's really not. I say it's not that good. The characters are still fun. There's still a lot of funny lines and great action sequence, but the actual story is dumb. It's really bad. The whole ⁓ reincarnating thing is just speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ And I I honestly don't even rem I've seen it a few times. I don't really even remember the story. The first one is so good and they just they couldn't they couldn't talk. ⁓ so yeah, we can't talk about the mummy without talking about how awesome it is. Yeah, it's so a along those lines of that pick, ⁓ I have a couple of movies that ⁓ not not vacation movies, but movies that we watched while on a little trip, ⁓ a couple of years ago when we went to I I say a couple years, I don't know how long ago it was. speaker-0: They couldn't even get close. speaker-1: When we went went to GeekCon in ⁓ Shreepport. Yeah. And met a couple of couple of people. We met Jason Lee and ⁓ Ethan Soupley. We had Jacob and I had just finished watching through the entire series of ⁓ My name is Earl. So that was a kind of a fun trip, a special trip. I think that's the farthest him and I had traveled together for something like that. Got a hotel and everything. anyway That night, the night that we got there, we were they had Netflix in the hotel. We were looking for something to watch. And for some reason he had never seen ⁓ we settled on Anchorman one and two. And we sat down in that hotel room and watched Anchorman one and two back to back. And, you know, the the con was the next day and we came home the next day. But when thinking about the list and thinking about trips and vacations and special movies. That's something that that I'll always remember that we were able to share together and you know, we had a great trip, had a good time and part of that was just hanging out and watching movies in the hotel room. And that's what we ended up watching. So that's so that's those two movies made the list. speaker-0: Yeah, so now every time you're gonna watch those, you're gonna think of that trip. speaker-1: Yeah. Yep. Yeah. And look, I'm not even the biggest Will Farrell fan. He's kinda he's hit or miss with me, he's whatever. But I I like those movies, first of all, and then th those kinda elevated him to that level to where yeah, I'll I'll always remember that. So I'll put those two on the list. speaker-0: Good pick. Good pick. Well, this one, I don't think I I'm pretty sure you said you've never seen it, which blows my mind, but loved it as a kid. It's been about two years or so since I've watched it, but it is so good. And that is Weekend at Bernie's. speaker-1: I have never seen weekend at Paris. speaker-0: How have you how are you forty six years old and you've never seen Weekend at Bernie's? speaker-1: So I think I've s 'cause they made two of ⁓ right? I think I've seen the second one. A as it as a kid, like not knowing what was going on, not knowing what happened or whatever. No frame of reference whatsoever. So I think as a kid I've seen the second one, but I can say with a hundred percent certainty I've never seen the first one. speaker-0: Yes, there's two. As ridiculous as the first one is, the second one takes it to a whole different level of ridiculousness. But it's still funny. The second one's pretty damn funny. But man, that first one is so good. So good. They basically they so Bernie is their boss. Right. Right. And they I forget what type of company he runs or whatever, but they are like auditors. And one Jonathan Silverman finds speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: a very big discrepancy and basically Bernie is in the middle of stealing money from the company, right? And they kind of discover it. Yeah. And so he invites them to his beach house on the beach. 'Cause you're like speaker-1: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Which is where vacations happen. speaker-0: Exactly. And he's like, ⁓ man, y'all, you guys, y'all saved me a ton of money. I wanna bring y'all out to my house. And they just think, ⁓ my God, we're we're in now. We're in. And then all kind of shit happens on the beach. I don't want to give it away. You need to watch it. But that's the basic premise of the movie. And it's hilarious. It it's it's shocking how funny it still is today. speaker-1: It's not something that was just ne it's something that just never was on my re It's not that I don't want to see it. I've just just never seen it and it's not something that I think about watching. You know? I'll I'll have to check to see if it's streaming on something. It's it's it's going on the list. I am typing speaker-0: Put it on your list right now. Put the notes in your phone. I mean I can understand you not seeing Southern Comfort. Week Weekend at Bernie's that's just that's crazy to me. speaker-1: Can that It's on the list. It's on the list. speaker-0: I couldn't remember if you had watched it or not, but I had a feeling you didn't. speaker-1: No, no, never saw that one. Never saw that one. ⁓ so my next I'm gonna combine these next two. They're not the same movie, but they have the same couple of actors. and these are I think legitimate vacation getaway movies. Is ⁓ due date with ⁓ speaker-0: Man, so good. I knew you were gonna have that on your list 'cause I know how much you like that movie. speaker-1: Due Date with Zach Galifanakis and ⁓ and ⁓ Robert Downey Jr. And then in the Zach Galifanakis world, the hangover. I put the hangover on my list also. ⁓ Due Date we actually really we watched it not that long ago. speaker-0: Is that the one with Mother Ephra Jones? speaker-1: No, that's ⁓ tar horrible bosses. Horrible bosses. Same actor. Same actor, yeah. Okay. ⁓ yeah, the first time I it it it's it is because of Robert Downey Jr., he's so dry and he's such an a hole to to I mean the Zach Galifine X's character is an idiot. He doesn't do himself any favors. But the hijinx that they get into and ⁓ I don't know, I I just thought Robert Downey Jr. was really good in that the speaker-0: ⁓ okay. The only thing I really remember is the them being in the back of the pickup truck and him flying up in the air. speaker-1: Yeah. That's after they meet Jamie Foxx, yeah. speaker-0: And they they keep waiting for the baby to be black 'cause they think Jamie Foxx is the dad. speaker-1: Yeah, they got it in it was so when when we watched it, it was it was raunchier than I remembered 'cause it had been a while since I had seen it. Yeah, it's rated. Yeah, it's it's rated R, but it's kind of adult sexual rated R but not ⁓ anyway. ⁓ and then I mean the hangover I feel like is kind of a comedy classic. ⁓ dude. ⁓ with those speaker-0: Right, isn't think that movie took that movie took the world by storm. Like I don't think even what's his name, the director, ⁓ is it Todd? ⁓ whatever I don't think that Todd Phillips. Todd Phillips. I don't think he thought that movie would be that big. And I mean it just blew up. Yeah. And I think it's because it was just shocking, you know? speaker-1: Philip. Yeah, no one was expecting it. ⁓ and I've seen I feel like I've seen the second I I think I own the second one. I've seen it maybe once. I've never seen the third one. I haven't heard all three. I haven't heard super positive things about the second two movies. But that first one was was gold. speaker-0: It's kinda like whenever Ace Ventura came out, you know, yet nobody had really seen anything like that. And I think the hangover was kind of had it had that shock value and like, ⁓ my God, type of thing, you know. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah, everyone ⁓ everyone seemed to seem to really love that one. So that's kinda I mean, just kinda looking over my list, that's kinda the end of my lower tier. I have a couple left. I mean look, I put Eden Lake, which I'm I need you to watch. But it's it's a getaway. It's a getaway. When you see it you'll you'll know. When you watch it, you'll have to let me know and let the viewers know if you think it belonged on this list. speaker-0: I mean in May. I mean you could also say cabin fever. I mean we could we could say evil dead, you know. I mean they go out in a cabin in the woods for for a little vacation getaway. Dead I'd come killing everybody. speaker-1: And then not not all not all vacations are fun and positive. No, you're right. Sometimes things go awry. So speaker-0: I just don't know when Nick goes on vacation if he thinks of Eden Lake. speaker-1: Probably not. Probably not. So yeah, that's the last of my kind of kinda borderline choices, I guess. speaker-0: Well, if we're gonna go borderline choices because I only have one real one left. Yeah. But I'll spit out two well, one borderline choice that I haven't and that's Texas Chainsaw Massacre. 'Cause they were technically on like little and they can stumble upon, you know, all of that. speaker-1: You know. I considered that one but I said nah speaker-0: I I don't think of vacation with it, but it technically does kind of fit it, but I don't think of it that way. I think of it as just a disgusting horror movie. speaker-1: Yeah, they were they were definitely they were definitely on a trip. I have two more also, but as we're talking something popped into my head. ⁓ the movie Vacation, the the the new one with Ed Helms and Christina Applegate and Yeah. With that ridiculous that ridiculous car that you know it's like backwards and shit and all that that was when he speaker-0: I have two more. I forgot. Where he's the son. And he tries to put the emergency brake and do the speaker-1: When he tries to do the fast and the furious drift turn and the car just flips over. When I tell you when I saw that, that was probably one of the funniest things I'd ever seen in my life. ⁓ yeah, me I you wanna talk about rewinding a section of a movie and watching it over and over and over again? speaker-0: Jamie laughed. Don't take a bath at a sewer pond too or something? speaker-1: Yeah, they take a bath in feces. They think it's a hot springs. What's that interesting smell? ⁓ yeah. So anyway, yeah, you have two left. I have two left. I'm thinking one of ⁓ at least is gonna be the same. speaker-0: Yeah, that's gonna be number one. But so my my second to best is ⁓ the sandlot. And the sandlot, I didn't grow up with ⁓ but now that my you know my wife really likes it and I've watched it several times with her, now it's it's just it's a good summer vacation 'cause it takes place, you know, the fourth of July summer movie. It's good and it you know, it just reminds you of playing with the neighborhood kids. speaker-1: That one okay. It is speaker-0: When we were you know, when we were kids, I mean, a lot of kids nowadays don't don't get to do that, but we sure as hell did. And that movie reminds me of that a lot. speaker-1: Man, yeah, you got me on that one. I have I have two cousins that I don't really keep up with anymore, but they live next door and we were all like the three of us total were maybe four years apart. And that's we'd spend our summers in the field next door playing baseball. The three of us playing baseball. ⁓ riding bikes, riding to Young'sville to go to Kenny's Video to rent movies 'cause he would let anyone in and and rent movies. speaker-0: Riding bikes. speaker-1: Playing young guns in the field when they would bail the hay in, we'd go out and they had the tree house in the back. Yeah, yeah. Sandlot definitely deserves to be on the list. Absolutely. Definitely. ⁓ so I have one that I'm kind of s a little surprised you didn't mention. I guess Star Wars has managed to creep its way into this list, but fanboys. ⁓ I put fanboys on my list. Yeah. speaker-0: Pick. speaker-1: group of group of guys going across the country trying to s trying to steal Star Wars from Skywalker Ranch. So they could be the first ones to watch it. speaker-0: So they can so they can watch it. I don't remember when the first time I saw that movie was if it was you that got me to watch it. Okay. But man, I it just it was one of the funniest things I had seen at the time. It was just, you know, we love the concept and ⁓ I love at the end, dude. What if it sucks? speaker-1: No, you saw it before I did. You got me a while. Yeah. What if it sucks? Turns out it sucked. It sucked. And it's one I I recently within the last few months or so, six or so months, ⁓ watched it again. And it's still it's still pretty funny. It's it's still great, it's still good, but ⁓ it's not like our I think our attitudes towards Star Wars in general has changed. So obviously when we watched it in the beginning, you know, the first time we saw it it was speaker-0: Everything speaker-1: And it's just kind of declined a little bit because of that. Not because it's less funny, less good, it's just less important to us these days, I guess. speaker-0: I mean I got William Shatner to sign mine, my ⁓ fanboys code. speaker-1: Yeah, I forgot about that. She sure did. speaker-0: Whenever I slid it to him, I slid just the you know, I had I took out the insert and I slid it to him and he goes, Ooh, fanboys. speaker-1: Yeah, he played a he played an integral integral part in that movie. ⁓ speaker-0: I'm William Shatner. I can get anything. speaker-1: Kristen Bell has never mind. speaker-0: Dude, whenever when those trekkies go in there and they're like, how much for the phaser? I'm sorry, boys, we don't hawk trek here. speaker-1: We don't hug ⁓ speaker-0: A phaser gun. So we could get little bitches like you and to get ⁓ outta here or something like that. Or no, so we could root out trick. speaker-1: Root out the trekkies, yeah. Yeah. speaker-0: Get the hell out of here. speaker-1: He was he was probably the funniest character. Yeah. With his with his van and yeah. Yeah, pretty good pretty good movie. Pretty good ⁓ pretty good road trip slash vacation type movie. So I obviously I know speaker-0: Woods. Here was the funniest part. Seth Rogan had ⁓ Jar Jar Binks tattoo. He's like, that guy's gonna be awesome. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah, he played two different characters. He played a Star Wars fanatic and he played ⁓ the main speaker-0: Three characters I think. It was the the Trekkie guy, the ⁓ Star Wars fanatic pimp, and I thought there was a third role, but it's at least two. speaker-1: It might have been. It might have been the third one. speaker-0: I I might be thinking of Cheech Marin's three rolls and from Dust Hill Dawn. speaker-1: ⁓ maybe so. You know that almost made my list also. ⁓ really it was a road trip. It wasn't a vacation, but it was ⁓ it was definitely a road trip. speaker-0: Yeah. So my last one, I guess, is probably your last one. Go ahead and say. speaker-1: It first thing without hesitation or delay that popped into my mind is what about Bob? Is that is that yours also listen and look I've been meaning to watch it again. It's on my list. I have the I have the DVD. It's also on Tubi. I'm not sure what the quality is gonna be. It does not have any type of Blu-ray release, I don't think. I searched for it. No other kind of release. So that's one speaker-0: That's so good. speaker-1: It's a D V D that I'm that I'll treasure. One of the funniest movies of all time. And not because of not that Bill Murray wasn't funny, but the movie was not funny because of Bill Murray. Richard Dreyfus, it was the Richard Dreyfuss show. He was he was so good, so funny. And watching his his slow descent into madness speaker-0: So good. speaker-1: And and f and anger and frustration. He played that so well. speaker-0: You need to relax. I'm relaxed. speaker-1: I'm on vacation. Yeah. I mean, it's really hard to get much better than that. speaker-0: We quote Richard Dreyfus way more than we quote Bill Murray from there. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, yeah. Although it does have ⁓ his the the the joke he tells is was Roses. speaker-0: Red, violet to blue. I'm a schizophrenic, and so am I. speaker-1: So am I Yeah. So I mean, there was no way that this list would have been topped by anything else other than What About Bob. If y'all haven't seen What About Bob speaker-0: can see it like it's no, you ain't gonna be able see it, but it's number one. Like it's the number one on my list. I immediately typed what about Bob? Yes. Yeah. ⁓ speaker-1: Go on vacation that's right. From my problems, speaker-0: ⁓ I think you can help me. speaker-1: Before ⁓ before the end of the week I'm gonna have watched What About Bob Again. I'll watch speaker-0: Most of it not that long ago. I think I fell asleep on it and I just hadn't finished it. But yeah. It was it's still so good. speaker-1: And it's it's one of those ones where as like I was saying earlier, I'm not I don't wanna just put it on. I want to right watch it and just take it take all those all the humorousness in. speaker-0: Doctor Marvin, would you like the breast? speaker-1: I mean the when he's jumping on his his back trying to save him from choking and it i I mean is there is there a calendar week that goes by that one of us does not say there's a groundbreaking week speaker-0: No, but I mean baby step speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: He has an entire shelf of it he's like there's a scrap speaker-1: Groundbreaking root book. Undisputed, undefeated. speaker-0: One of the funniest movies. Probably the two funniest movies ever made are What About Bob and My Cousin Vinny. I I don't know two other movies or or many other movies that would be funnier than those two. I know I know the Big Lebowski is is up there, but I will take I will watch these two movies way before the Big Lebowski. I mean my cousin Vinny's probably number one. My cousin Vinny is Hilarious. speaker-1: can't think of anything that would knock either one of those two out of the top five. I mean there's yeah, they're they're they're up there and it like why would we not have an updated, restored, Blu ray, high definition? speaker-0: No, man. I sure hope it's in the works. I mean, we just got the burbs, so the burbs almost made my list, by the way, because he's on vacation. You see? I'm on I'm in what he said. I'm ⁓ I sleep late. speaker-1: Yeah, yeah, he is on vacation. speaker-0: Going to the lake and and whatnot. So the burbs almost made it, but it doesn't quite give me that you know, I don't really like think of vacation when I watch it. speaker-1: He was on a staycation. ⁓ so yeah speaker-0: Hopefully we get we get a restored copy because why that movie is not hasn't been done is kind of interesting with everything else that's been done. It's Frank Oz, maybe he doesn't want to do it. I I don't know. speaker-1: And you know it's And you know, it's one of those that I think not a lot of people talk about it, but just about anyone that I ask, have you ever seen What About Bob? ⁓ yeah, it was great. I love that movie. It it doesn't get talked about a lot, but everyone's seen it, or a lot of people have seen it. It's not as obscure as it as it kinda seems at first. Because I think of it speaker-0: Deal. It was a big deal when it came out. I mean, it wasn't it didn't like fly under the radar. I mean, everybody talked about what about Bob when it came out. speaker-1: Yeah. See I I don't I don't remember it like that. I don't remember that. So that's always something that's ⁓ well I mean, I guess ⁓ unintentionally struck me. speaker-0: But yeah, now you watch the hitcher again. speaker-1: Yeah. Now that's the hitcher. We had talked about that earlier. That's the one with speaker-0: Yeah, you watched it here. speaker-1: ⁓ what's his name? Rudger Hauer? speaker-0: Rutger Howard, that gummit. speaker-1: It hit me right before I before I got to the IMDB page. ⁓ speaker-0: I mean, he we don't talk about him enough in Greatest Villains of All Time because in the hitcher he's he's up there, bruh, with one of the greatest villains ever. Like no motivate you don't know why he's doing it. We did a whole review on it. Look it up on channel. But ⁓ I don't even think he knows why he was doing it. He's just a sicko and the movie is great. speaker-1: Did a whole video. Yeah. Yeah, that was a good one. That's one that I was surprised how much ⁓ how much I liked it and that I hadn't I hadn't seen it. speaker-0: Man, the 4K is just it's by I think it's Second Sight that did it. I don't know where my it must be in the back over there, but man, it's a brilliant release. It's really good. But yeah, so I think that was a good little list. I for people to comment what ⁓ movies make them think of vacation or vacation type movies that we missed. I didn't yeah. I didn't grow up watching ⁓ National Lampoons Vacation. I've I've seen it as an adult, and it's good, but it doesn't really speaker-1: I would speaker-0: hold a lot for me because I didn't grow up watching it. But European Vacation did. That's the only one we had. Remember I've told you the story how we had tons of movies on tape, but they were like three movies per they were recorded movies. speaker-1: Recorded off TV or whatever. speaker-0: Off of HBO had European Vacation. It's the only vacation movie I had ever seen until probably teenager or late teen when I started watching ⁓ Christmas Vacation and Vacation, then Vegas Vacation, which is hilarious. So ⁓ that's why none of those made my list because you know, just and Christmas Vacation is only that's a Christmas movie. I couldn't put that speaker-1: Yeah, yeah. I I thought about that too. That's that's that was a holiday Christmas movie. ⁓ I I've never seen I don't think I've seen any of the vacation movies. speaker-0: ⁓ not even Christmas vacation? speaker-1: Well no, ⁓ Christmas vacation, yeah, but other than that, ⁓ I I could remember watching National Lampoons Vacation. It would play on T B S and I've seen bits and pieces. I remember Christy Brinkley jumping in a pool in the red car and was that is that the original vacation speaker-0: The original vacation, they're going to Wally World. speaker-1: Wally World and when they get there it's closed. It's closed. Okay, so maybe maybe I've seen most, if not all, of that one. speaker-0: directed by Harold Ramos, if I'm not mistaken. speaker-1: That was that was more difficult than I thought it would be with a lot of fun. speaker-0: Cool. So you get to watch Obsession tonight. I cannot wait to hear speaker-1: I got it in the mail today. It is still wrapped up in the cellophane plastic shrink wrap. speaker-0: We may have to do a discussion and and yeah, I know tons of people have done it, but I cannot wait to talk to you about this movie and we might as well record it while we're doing it. speaker-1: Yeah, yeah. I'm I'm gonna unless something happens between now and the next twenty minutes, I'm gonna be throwing it on a little bit and I'll be checking it out. All right. speaker-0: Man. Well, we'll wrap it up now. speaker-1: Yeah, y'all ⁓ let us know what we missed, what we got wrong, what we got right, what you agree with, share some memories. ⁓ and we'll ⁓ you know, we'll get back with y'all and ⁓ speaker-0: Hopefully we get some feedback because I like to engage. Like, subscribe, tell your friends. We'll catch you on the next one. speaker-1: Yeah, definitely. All right. See ya.
