- 0:05She's a happy girl. Hello, friends, and welcome back to another podcast of Woman.
- 0:10At the Well Ministries, where we believe that all of us have to come to Jesus
- 0:15like the woman at the well in John chapter 4.
- 0:18Our highest priority is making God real in your life.
- 0:21Whether you are listening in our app, in your favorite podcasting app,
- 0:25or on our website at watwm.org,
- 0:28we invite you to sit down with us as we look to the scriptures to learn more
- 0:33about God and to strengthen your daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- 1:03We live in a world where people seem to always want to impress others by who they know.
- 1:09It seems as if our society has evolved to where who you know is more important than what you know.
- 1:17Ironically, the world has come around unintentionally to a major truth.
- 1:21It is more important who you know than what you know when it comes to Jesus.
- 1:28Knowing Him far exceeds the value of any knowledge you may have or may acquire.
- 1:34Join us in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries as Kim introduces us
- 1:40to the Master of the Wind.
- 1:43We are looking at Hebrews 11.6 as the filter in which we are going to lay every
- 1:49single thing we hear from God through tonight.
- 1:54That verse reads like this, but without faith, it is impossible to please him.
- 2:01For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, that he is a rewarder of
- 2:08them that diligently seek him.
- 2:12Now, I want you to see that there's some important things about our filter,
- 2:17and we usually don't spend a lot of time on our filter, but we need to use it tonight.
- 2:21We need to use it effectively. So I want you to understand that Hebrews 11,
- 2:276 tells us that we have to have faith.
- 2:31Faith is believing without any data to prove it.
- 2:37Faith is believing when you can't see the end.
- 2:41Faith is fully and completely trusting. And what he's saying is you have to have faith in God.
- 2:47You must fully and completely trust in the one and only living God.
- 2:53In Proverbs 3, 5 through 6, he tells us to lean not into our own understanding,
- 2:57but in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
- 3:02Then he says, be not wise in thine and eyes, fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
- 3:07Faith is what it means to take a step back, remove yourself from the equation,
- 3:15and allow God to have complete and full reign.
- 3:20I want you to also see that Hebrews 11, 6 tells us not only that we have to
- 3:26have faith, But he tells us that we have to believe in who he is.
- 3:31It's really difficult to believe in something you don't know.
- 3:36So we must be dedicated to understanding the character, the will of God.
- 3:43And then he says something that I think it's important that we really know.
- 3:47He says, those that believe have to come to him.
- 3:52So often I am, I'm dumbfounded is the word.
- 3:57Of the people who tell me that they have a relationship with Jesus.
- 4:01They don't pray. They don't read. They don't go to church. They don't talk about him.
- 4:06Well, that's an interesting relationship.
- 4:08One that I think if you're honest with yourselves, it doesn't even take you
- 4:12long to come to the conclusion that no earthly relationship that you have would
- 4:17ever prosper, would ever grow,
- 4:20would ever develop if you did absolutely nothing to maintain it,
- 4:24if you did nothing to learn of the other person, and if you ignored them forever.
- 4:29Yet we don't seem to understand that when it comes to Jesus Christ,
- 4:34it is a personal relationship.
- 4:36There's some maintenance needs to be done. We're not working for our salvation.
- 4:40We are developing a personal relationship with a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
- 4:46So tonight, as we begin to adjust and modify this filter verse of Hebrews 11,
- 4:526, we got to get ourselves in the right place.
- 4:55We have to shore up our faith. We got to come to him because he's the source of our faith.
- 5:01If we ask for faith, he gives us faith.
- 5:05And then we have to believe and know who he is and understand that he's a rewarder
- 5:10of them that diligently seek him.
- 5:12Why do you suppose that's important for the rest of our time together tonight?
- 5:18Because one, I'd be amiss if I didn't point you towards a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- 5:25But two, if you don't have a motivation for the reward, you're not going to put forth the effort.
- 5:32And tonight's passage is so filled with the goodness and the greatness and the
- 5:39providential care of Jesus Christ that I don't want you to miss one piece of it.
- 5:45So as we walk through this scripture.
- 5:50I want you to implore all the faith you have i want you to believe in who he
- 5:55is and i want you to stand and watch the blessings of god simply flow over you
- 6:02jesus loves me this i know.
- 6:05For the bible tells me so so as we begin to look at mark chapter 4 beginning
- 6:12in verse 35 it's important that you believe that god exists and it's important
- 6:18that you believe that he rewards those that earnestly seek him.
- 6:21As we hit this passage in Mark chapter 4, it's right after he talks about how
- 6:27and why he uses parables.
- 6:30It's not too far from where he talks about the parable of the mustard seed,
- 6:35and then he talks about putting a light under a basket.
- 6:39So I set the seen for you that here are these disciples who've been with him all day long.
- 6:47They've labored, they've tarried, they've heard the word of God,
- 6:53they've listened to him unfold himself.
- 6:56In John chapter 1 verse 14, he says that the word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
- 7:02As we read the precious word of God, we are watching Jesus reveal himself to
- 7:09us and unfold his character, unfold his promises, unfold his love toward us.
- 7:15And in doing so, scripture says, if you know Jesus, you can fully know God.
- 7:22And so tonight, as we begin to read Mark chapter 4, verses 35 through 41,
- 7:28I want you to know he is real.
- 7:32And what he did for others, he'll do for you.
- 7:35The lessons he's teaching these individuals in Mark chapter 4,
- 7:40verses 35 through 41, they're relevant now.
- 7:44They're exactly what God wants you to hear now. I believe that with all of my
- 7:49heart, or I don't believe he would have asked me to change my message and do this one.
- 7:54So tonight, read with me in Mark chapter 4, beginning in verse 35.
- 8:03And the same day when the evening was come, he saith unto them,
- 8:08Let us pass over unto the other side.
- 8:12And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the
- 8:17ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
- 8:22And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
- 8:30And he was in the hinder part, or the honder part of the ship,
- 8:35and he was in the hinder part of the ship.
- 8:36Asleep on a pillow. And they awake him and say unto him, Master,
- 8:41carest thou not that we perish?
- 8:44And he arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.
- 8:51And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are you so fearful?
- 8:58How is it that ye have no faith. I mean, come on, people, they just listened to him all day long.
- 9:05And they feared exceedingly and said one to another, what manner of man is this,
- 9:13that even the wind and the sea obey him?
- 9:18Have you ever just stopped for a
- 9:21moment in your life and began to reflect upon
- 9:25what manner of man is this in this
- 9:28particular passage we're going to unveil what
- 9:31manner of man jesus is and i
- 9:34remind you that he's fully god and that he is fully man
- 9:37and he reveals that in no uncertain terms
- 9:40in this passage as we
- 9:43begin to look at that we begin to see that
- 9:46jesus is already in the boat they've been
- 9:49out doing all the things they need to
- 9:52do they have taken care of the multitude it's
- 9:56late in the evening and i want you to notice that that the lord doesn't just
- 10:01stay there he gets in a boat and he moves on to the other side because when
- 10:05you get in mark chapter five you see he has some work to do over there and so
- 10:09he's not being idle and he's not wasting any time he's positioning himself.
- 10:16To be where the action is, where the need is, where the work is to be done.
- 10:23So the first thing I want us to look at when we look at this passage is sometimes
- 10:28our faith has to be tested.
- 10:31Sometimes our faith needs to be evaluated.
- 10:35Sometimes our faith is to be assessed.
- 10:39Now, you know, these boys in the boat knew who Jesus was. They were his disciples.
- 10:46You have to understand that these boys in the boat believed in Jesus.
- 10:52But when trouble came their way, when an instance of fear took them.
- 10:59It was their fear they employed as opposed to their faith.
- 11:05You know, I looked at this for a long time, and I realized that the faith is on the move.
- 11:11It's not moving away from us, but when we have faith, we are on the move.
- 11:16We are taking our faith from one place to the other.
- 11:20We are exhibiting the faith of Jesus Christ in every step, in every word,
- 11:25in every act, in every deed. Faith is on the move.
- 11:30And what I noticed is that we have a choice every day to enact and activate
- 11:35that faith, or we can walk in fear.
- 11:40But you can't have faith and fear at the same time. It's impossible.
- 11:48And so as we begin to look at this, what we see is that faith requires you to follow.
- 11:54Now, I'm sure when the multitude was finished with them and they had met all
- 11:59of the needs of the followers, all the needs of that multitude,
- 12:04there were some people who wanted just a little more of Jesus.
- 12:07They wanted to dig just a little deeper.
- 12:10They wanted a closer relationship. So instead of going home,
- 12:14propping their feet up and having a glass of tea, they got in a little boat and followed.
- 12:23No doubt they just wanted to grow a
- 12:25little closer no doubt they just wanted to do something
- 12:28see jesus was always doing good jesus
- 12:32was going about doing the things of god
- 12:35and even difficulties that came hindrances that showed up nothing stopped him
- 12:43that's why he in the evening time tired exhausted spent he still got in the
- 12:49boat positioned himself for the next assignment,
- 12:53I believe what God is telling me and you in this passage regarding that is we need to get in the boat.
- 13:00And we need to step out on the boat on faith like Peter did in his account.
- 13:07But we have to position ourselves where God has called us.
- 13:13If he's called you to be on Avenue B, you better not be hanging on Avenue Z.
- 13:19God has a plan for your life. It's a good plan, and it is to give you goodness and him glory.
- 13:28And so we learn that Jesus lives a life that positions himself to be on the
- 13:35ready when he's called to activate and work.
- 13:41But let's look at those little boats that followed.
- 13:45They were willing to follow him where he went there's another little nuance,
- 13:55in this beginning part of this that talks about that when he was in the ship
- 14:02and they were also with him other little ships and he arose a great storm but
- 14:06it talks about that when he goes,
- 14:09He took him even as he was.
- 14:12And if you're not careful, you can miss that piece in Scripture.
- 14:17And you say, well, Kimmy, what's so important about that?
- 14:21There are some times we miss the call of God because it's not comfortable.
- 14:27There are some times we miss the call of God because we're getting ourselves already.
- 14:33I'm sure it was cold. He was on the water and it was evening.
- 14:36He didn't go back for a coat. He didn't go back for anything.
- 14:41Jesus got on the boat, moving in faith to the place he needed to go with his
- 14:47people and boats following him as he was.
- 14:52Jesus was on the ready. Now, that bodes a question for me and you.
- 14:59Do we live our lives on the ready? If he calls you right now to go and witness
- 15:07to somebody, can you do it?
- 15:10If he asks you to sit by the bedside of a dying saint, will you do it?
- 15:19Or do you have to get yourself ready, get the right clothes on,
- 15:24make sure all's going well?
- 15:26I missed an opportunity once. I've missed many, but one time in particular that somewhat haunts me.
- 15:33I was on my way to church to teach Sunday school in the previous church that I went to.
- 15:40And on my way down the hill, there was a lady there, and something in my heart
- 15:44prompted me to speak to her.
- 15:48She looked like she was in need, but I kept saying, I can't do it.
- 15:52I can't do it. I got to go to Sunday school. I got to teach the Sunday school class.
- 15:57So I got down the road quite a bit, and I felt bad.
- 16:01And so I said, Lord, as soon as Sunday school's over, you just keep that lady there, and I'll go back.
- 16:09Sunday school was over. I got in my car to go back. She wasn't there.
- 16:16I pray that somebody else was on the ready. I pray that when God spoke to somebody
- 16:22else's heart, they didn't think of the reasons why they couldn't help her.
- 16:25They just got up and went. They did it.
- 16:28What about if somebody asks you to pray for them? Are you on the ready?
- 16:32Are you prayed up? Or do you have to spend the first few minutes of your prayer
- 16:36praying for yourself, asking for forgiveness, confessing all your sins?
- 16:40And then you can get down to the business that is of urgency.
- 16:44There's nothing better than a praying friend. Nothing better you'll ever find.
- 16:49But you want a friend that when you say, I have an urgent prayer, pray for me.
- 16:54Pray for me now. and you know that that friend is prayed up.
- 17:00That friend has a recent relationship.
- 17:05That friend is in good standing, not because of anything they've done,
- 17:10but because of who Jesus Christ is.
- 17:12Don't miss that he went over in the evening, that his faith moved him,
- 17:19that it placed him on the ready, that it gave him a position and that he did
- 17:24not care for himself and his needs.
- 17:27He left tired, without a coat, pursuing his next task.
- 17:35And then I want you to read here in verse 37. And there arose a great storm
- 17:41of wind, and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full.
- 17:46What that says is that ship is taken on water.
- 17:50And we all know that when a ship takes on water, at some point there's more
- 17:54water than it can withhold, and it begins to sink.
- 17:58They're not in Beach Fork Lake, where if you fall out of the boat,
- 18:01you can stand up and it's at your waist. That's not where they're at.
- 18:05Now, they're in the sea, and storms come.
- 18:09It's a known fact if you're in a person who does any kind of boating in any
- 18:15kind of lake that's big or the sea or the ocean.
- 18:19Storms come, and they come out of nowhere. Storms happen.
- 18:24Some storms in our lives we cause.
- 18:29Some we endure. But just as sure as that storms are going to arise on the water,
- 18:37storms are going to arise in our lives.
- 18:41No doubt, there are times in our lives when we feel like we're being overwhelmed,
- 18:47when we feel like there's nothing but taking on water.
- 18:52And we begin to feel like we're going to sink. Now, this wasn't just for Jesus and the boat he was in.
- 19:02All those little boats that came with Jesus that were following after him,
- 19:07they were sustaining the same water.
- 19:11They were facing the same obstacles. They were facing the same difficulties.
- 19:17Friend, when you took Jesus as your Savior, you agreed.
- 19:26To walk with Him. You agreed to become like Him.
- 19:31You agreed to run the very same risks that He runs.
- 19:38We need to run boldly and cheerfully face forward into the path that Jesus Christ has for us.
- 19:46We must be willing to take on the risk through faith and knowing that it can't hurt you.
- 19:54What looks like a risk to the world, what the flesh may perceive as a risk for
- 19:59the Christian who has died in the world,
- 20:02full and completely saved, understanding exactly who Jesus is,
- 20:05placing their whole trust in him. They're all in for that person.
- 20:10It's not a risk. They're safe in the cleft of Jesus.
- 20:14We were called in Mark 8, 34, to remind you in my hearing,
- 20:20and when he called this people unto him and his disciples too, so all of his people,
- 20:25the Lord said, whoever will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross,
- 20:35and follow him when we begin
- 20:38to read this passage in mark chapter 4 in 35
- 20:41through 41 what we see is these little guys in the little boats were all in
- 20:46they were accepting the risk they were doing exactly what god had asked them
- 20:53to do and i have to believe they did it willingly and cheerfully how about you.
- 21:02Winds are blowing, the waves are rising, the boat is filling.
- 21:06And here said his disciples, I remind you again, they had spent all day listening to the master speak.
- 21:13They were close to him. They knew who he was. They understood his character.
- 21:18They knew what he could do. They'd seen it. They also heard him say,
- 21:23you have to have faith, that of a mustard seed.
- 21:26And if you have face of a mustard seed, just a tiny mustard seed.
- 21:30You can say to that mountain, move, and it'll move.
- 21:34I am literally enough to believe that if I had the faith of a little mustard
- 21:41seed and said to Mount Everest, move, it would move.
- 21:44I'm too stupidly educated to have that kind of faith. I wouldn't be able to
- 21:52muster it up, pardon the pun, to move Mount Everest.
- 21:56But there are mountains in my life.
- 21:59There are obstacles. There are issues. There are problems. There's broken relationships.
- 22:06There's dreams and hopes. There's tasks and assignments.
- 22:10All of which I need just enough faith of a mustard seed to make it happen.
- 22:16So there they are. You've all heard me before. I know that drowning is something I fear.
- 22:24Deep water is not my friend. So I can understand with no qualms what these guys are feeling.
- 22:32And I, in no way, am just passing judgment on them. But there is Jesus.
- 22:40As you move down, he says that the waves beat into the ship so that it was now
- 22:45full. and in verse 38, and he was in the hinder or hinder part of the ship, asleep on the pillow.
- 22:53Get out your pens, get on the edge of your seat.
- 22:57This is going to transform you if you catch it. He's in the hinder part of the ship.
- 23:04What part that is? That's the part where the pilot lives.
- 23:09That's the part where the pilot is at the helm to show that he's always in control.
- 23:18Jesus, who seemingly is asleep, who is asleep by earthly accounts because he's
- 23:25fully God and fully man. Oh, listen to me.
- 23:29He's in the pilot's house. He's at the helm.
- 23:34And even when he's asleep, he's awake.
- 23:38And I want you to know that these boys call on him, even though he's asleep.
- 23:46And because of their unbelief, Jesus, who was already on the scene,
- 23:52Jesus, who was already in control, Jesus, who was already at the helm, is asked to move.
- 24:00Think there are many times in our life Jesus has us going in the right direction.
- 24:04Jesus is standing in the right place. He's leading and guiding us,
- 24:08and we get some sort of whim in our mind, and we go left or right of the center
- 24:13of God's will, and then what happens is God is not standing there.
- 24:19He's now over here beside of us, and we have altered something.
- 24:23That day, I missed the blessing of talking to that girl.
- 24:29But God's work will get done, but I want it to be through me when it's supposed to be.
- 24:35So he's in the part of the ship where there's control.
- 24:41He's at the helm, even though he's asleep.
- 24:45George Herbert put it this way. Let me read this. When winds and waves assault
- 24:52my keel, he doth preserve it, he doth steer.
- 24:58Even when the boat seems most to reel, storms are the triumph of his art.
- 25:06Listen, though he may close his eyes, yet not his heart.
- 25:12Fully God meant.
- 25:27Because he was there. Sometimes me and you were in the storm,
- 25:33and Jesus seems as if he's asleep.
- 25:36He seems as if he's not listening. No matter how hard you pray,
- 25:40no matter how diligently you appeal, no matter how many tears you cry,
- 25:47he seems unconcerned because you can't hear him,
- 25:51and you can't see him.
- 25:53But according to Hebrews 11, 6, Without faith, it is impossible to please him.
- 26:00And you must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
- 26:05And through eyes of faith, when he's not here, you know he is.
- 26:12The fully God that we serve, Jesus Christ, the son of God, who never has failed,
- 26:19who gave himself that you might live, who paid a sin debt he didn't know for
- 26:24a people who couldn't pay it.
- 26:26He's on the scene, he's at the helm, even when you don't see it,
- 26:34don't hear it, and don't feel it.
- 26:38In Isaiah chapter 45 and verse 15, we read these precious words.
- 26:44Verily thou art a God that hidest thyselves, O God of Israel and Savior.
- 26:49Just when you think he's tearing you, you find out he's delaying,
- 26:53waiting for his perfect timing.
- 26:56Habakkuk chapter 2 and verse 3 says, for the vision is yet for an appointed
- 27:01time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie.
- 27:07Though it tarry, wait for it, wait for it, because it will surely come, and it will not tarry.
- 27:17That's eyes of faith. That's a life of faith.
- 27:21Then when you can't hear him, you can't see him, you know he's working.
- 27:26When there's no physical evidence, you know he's at the helm.
- 27:32How precious these first few verses are to take the time to tell us that faith is on the move.
- 27:39And when he's asleep, God is still watching because he never sleeps and he never slumbers.
- 27:47He will not suffer thy foot to be moved. He that keepeth thee will not slumber.
- 27:51Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither sleep nor slumber,
- 27:54according to Psalms 121, 3 and 4.
- 27:58What do we need to know up to this? He slept, but his heart was awake.
- 28:04Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
- 28:09There is nothing man can do to thwart the work God has for you.
- 28:14But here we are. The boat is feeling.
- 28:18I bet it's cold. It's dark.
- 28:22People are starting to panic. I'd be one of them.
- 28:27The disciples aren't able to have peace because they don't understand their
- 28:30situation. They don't know what's happening.
- 28:33They're on a boat with Jesus, and yet Jesus is asleep, and they are perishing, they think.
- 28:40The disciples feel that God is powerless because they can't see him.
- 28:46He was on the boat. He's in your heart.
- 28:49He's wrapped around your life. He's got a plan for you to prosper you,
- 28:53to give you a hope, to give you an expected end. he's already there. Peter proved that.
- 28:59Get out of the boat. Take a step of faith.
- 29:03We learned about that a few weeks back. But tonight, what we're saying is he's in the boat with you.
- 29:10For Peter, he was on the water. He's in the boat with you.
- 29:14This storm you're facing, this problem you've got, this situation that is overtaking
- 29:19you, this illness that you've watched someone you love have for their entire
- 29:23life. Hey, he's in the boat with you.
- 29:27Help isn't on the way. Help is there. But it requires faith.
- 29:34See, the confidence was placed in the fact that they had the master with them.
- 29:39That the ship had Christ in it, so it couldn't sink.
- 29:44The bush had God in it, so it couldn't be consumed.
- 29:49God is all-knowing and completely undefeated. Why is that important?
- 29:58If he'd have burned up in the bush, I don't know when he's going to burn up.
- 30:01I don't want it to be on my miracle I need.
- 30:04He's on the boat. And they couldn't see his presence. Even though they knew
- 30:10he was there, they began to panic.
- 30:12But they did know who God was. And they believed in him and his presence.
- 30:21So they went where they knew to get help. Even though they knew they were gonna wake him up.
- 30:27Even though they knew that something about this was probably not right because God makes no mistakes.
- 30:33And if he needed to be awake, he'd be awake. If he needed to be watching the
- 30:37storm, he would be watching the storm.
- 30:39But in that moment, they had their eyes on the storm.
- 30:42They had an understanding of who God was. But they didn't kick their faith in
- 30:46to say, because he is here, he's at the helm, because he has a plan,
- 30:51because he loves me, because he's taking care of me. I don't need to worry.
- 30:56I'd have woke him up, too. But the point is, they didn't have to.
- 31:02They woke him up because they thought it was necessary.
- 31:06When Jesus sees us, he knows what he needs to do.
- 31:12And sometimes he seems like he's asleep.
- 31:16He is awakened by the prayers of the people.
- 31:20That's why we pray the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
- 31:26Be on the ready.
- 31:28Jesus was there. They knew where to go.
- 31:32When we don't know what to do, we have to fix our eyes on Jesus.
- 31:37They knew he would forgive them of their error.
- 31:411 John 1.9 says, If we confess our sins, he's faithful and just to forgive us
- 31:44our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 31:48The disciples knew him, and they knew where to go for help.
- 31:52In 2 Chronicles 20, verse 12, it says, O our God, look that up,
- 31:582 Chronicles 20, verse 12.
- 32:01O our God, wilt thou not judge them? For we have no might against this great
- 32:07company that cometh against us.
- 32:08Neither know we what to do, but our eyes are upon thee.
- 32:13Many times in desperation have you prayed, Lord God, I don't know what to do.
- 32:19Jesus, help me. Jesus, give me faith. Jesus, put my feet in the right place.
- 32:27Jesus, give me the answer.
- 32:29Jesus wants you to follow him. Jesus wants you to know him.
- 32:33And Jesus isn't going to lead you in a place He isn't going to protect you.
- 32:39He won't call you to where he won't equip you.
- 32:42But you have to have faith. Without faith, it is impossible to believe him.
- 32:47Friends, we may be at our wit's end, but we're not at our Savior's faith's end.
- 32:53Get that? We may be at the end of our rope, but I'm going to hang on to the thread of the hymn.
- 33:00Jesus loves me, this I know, and I see it clearly in this passage.
- 33:06Then what we see Jesus is awake and he
- 33:10says and they say the master cares thou not we're gonna perish before you judge
- 33:17how many times have we said what are you thinking that would be a Kimmy Miller
- 33:22prayer what are you thinking are you sure you're looking at the right person
- 33:27that's why you let me perish.
- 33:30Why are you making this hard? Where are you?
- 33:34That's where they're at. They just spent the day with him. But now trouble's
- 33:39come. Situation is there.
- 33:42Problems are rising. And Jesus awakens. He does what only he can do.
- 33:49He rebukes the wind, and he calms the sea.
- 33:54How does this make me know he's fully
- 33:58god and he's fully man how does this make me know that when he was asleep on
- 34:04the pillow with his head there he still had his heart awake providing for these
- 34:09kids because he created the seas that made him god and then he told him to stop.
- 34:16Name god but he stood there as jesus when
- 34:20you can't see he's working i promise
- 34:24you he's already working jesus will calm that storm in your life right now the
- 34:30one that's bothering you and hurting you but you gotta let him he says in this
- 34:37passage peace be still and the wind ceased In the original language,
- 34:44it says, be silent,
- 34:47be silent, be dumb.
- 34:51In other words, stand still and know that I am God in Psalms 46.10.
- 34:58He tells the wind to be quiet and to cease.
- 35:04Why do you care that he says be quiet? it.
- 35:08Sometimes it's the noise that scares us.
- 35:12Sometimes it isn't the height of the wind if you can't even see it in the waves.
- 35:17It's the noise of the billowing waves. It's the noise of the howling wind.
- 35:22It's the noise of the naysayers. It's the noise of the lions in the lion's den.
- 35:26It's the noise of those that say you can't. It's the noise of those that say you're not good enough.
- 35:32It's the noise of those that say you're not qualified. It's the noise of those
- 35:37that say you aren't the one.
- 35:40He said, peace. Be still.
- 35:45Silent. When Jesus approaches your storm, because he's already there,
- 35:50when you engage the faith and you invite him in, when Jesus is allowed into your storm,
- 35:56he silences the noise and he stops the physical problem.
- 36:02He obliterates your obstacles.
- 36:04He enables you to overcome your difficulties, and he shuts the mouths of lions.
- 36:12It's important that you understand the creator of the universe,
- 36:16the creator of you said, be silent, be dumb, peace, be still.
- 36:22It's important because storms are coming.
- 36:26You know me. They say I'm a doomsayer, but I always say you're either in a storm,
- 36:31out of a storm, or going into one. They're coming.
- 36:35In Isaiah 57, 20, he says, but the wicked are like the troubled sea when it
- 36:41cannot rest, whose waters cast up my own dirt.
- 36:45Let our minds, in the midst of the storm, let them recall. Be silent.
- 36:53Peace. Be still. He silences the roar, but you gotta let him.
- 37:00Without faith, it's impossible to please him, and you must believe that he is,
- 37:04that he's a rewarder of them that diligently seek them.
- 37:07In Psalm 65, 7, he says, which stilleth the noise of the seas,
- 37:11the noise of the waves, and the tumult of the people.
- 37:15Be still and know that he is God. Don't be confused.
- 37:20Don't speak unadvisedly. Just be still. Thank you.
- 37:26Him. Fight your battles. Well, Jesus had just come from a day of laboring and
- 37:32toiling, and the disciples in the boat with him would have been involved in all of that.
- 37:37As I look at what takes place in this passage, I see that what he is telling
- 37:42us is that rest isn't guaranteed.
- 37:45You can rest in Jesus. He'll provide all of your needs.
- 37:48He'll give you the strength you need, but you can't say, I've worked 60 years
- 37:53for the Lord. I've retired.
- 37:55He has no Christians on the bench. There are no fill-ins, no subs.
- 38:00You are each called to a purpose, each called for a job.
- 38:04And sometimes the going gets rough, but Jesus is greater than your obstacles.
- 38:11He will supply what you need. And so he just kept going.
- 38:15Now there's a time to rest, but when God is calling, that's not the time to
- 38:19rest. It's not your schedule, it's his schedule.
- 38:24God used the ship as his pulpit. I want you to see that the ship wasn't going down.
- 38:31It was under his protection because it was what he was using.
- 38:36The storm beat against it, but it couldn't take it down. He cares for his own.
- 38:42Psalms 23 tells us that.
- 38:45The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
- 38:49Oh, as we look at this passage so rich in what he has for us,
- 38:54i'm reminded of isaiah 26 3 which says thou
- 38:58will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusted
- 39:03in thee i'm not judging the boys in the boat but in philippians 4 6 and 7 he
- 39:10says to be careful for nothing but in everything with prayer and thanksgiving.
- 39:16Let your requests be made known unto god and the peace of god will keep your
- 39:20hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 39:21In the midst of that storm, in the bit of this particular passage,
- 39:29they'd been with him. They knew him.
- 39:32They knew his commandments.
- 39:35And when things got scary, they forgot it all.
- 39:40They abandoned it all. They weren't hanging on faith. They were hanging on fear.
- 39:46But I want you to read something in this particular account in Mark that is
- 39:52very incredible that I don't wait and miss.
- 39:55Jesus is getting ready to rebuke the disciples for their unbelief.
- 39:59So he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful?
- 40:05How is it that ye have no faith? Let me read that in your hearing one more time.
- 40:12Why are ye so fearful?
- 40:17What God revealed into my heart is I am fully human. It's okay to have a little fear.
- 40:23You just can't live there.
- 40:27Believe in God, but do you believe in who he is and what he can do?
- 40:30It's normal to have the fear, but when you begin to trust,
- 40:33when you activate the faith, when you put your full end on him,
- 40:37and you are completely enclosed and overshadowed by his wings,
- 40:41when you've crawled up into his lap and said,
- 40:44let happen, whatever happens, I'm yours, you're going to take care of me,
- 40:49I'm following you to the end,
- 40:50I'm going to take what you give me, I'll take on the risk you take,
- 40:54I'll suffer for who you are.
- 40:56I'll do what you ask me to do. When you get into a place where his presence,
- 41:02is your protection, it preserves you.
- 41:06When you get in that place, I promise you, you don't care what the world says.
- 41:12You don't care what the world does.
- 41:14You're just following Jesus.
- 41:17In Luke 1.37, he says, For with God, nothing shall be impossible. Do you know who he is?
- 41:24Do you know what he's capable of?
- 41:26Do you know what he's done? Do you know his character?
- 41:30Is he your friend? He's a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
- 41:35He wants all of you. He says, hey, behold, I stand at the door and knock.
- 41:39If any man come unto me, I will sup with him and he with me.
- 41:43Revelations 3.20. He wants that personal relationship with you so that he can
- 41:49have a conversation with you like he's having with the boys.
- 41:51And he can say, why are you so fearful?
- 41:55We're going to recognize fear. We're humans. But at the moment we recognize
- 42:00fear, we've got to hang on to the lifesaver.
- 42:02We've got to hang on to the preserver.
- 42:04We've got to be where he wants us to be and let him cover us.
- 42:10And he gives us the armor of God. In Psalms 18, verse 2, he says this,
- 42:17The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God,
- 42:24my strength and whom I will trust, my buckler and the horn of my salvation and my high tower.
- 42:35Who is Jesus to you?
- 42:39When they feared the winds and the wave, it was lack of reverence to Jesus.
- 42:45It was a lack of respect for who he was and what he could do.
- 42:49But in this very last part of this verse,
- 42:53when you begin to see them in verse 41 say this, and they feared exceedingly
- 42:59and said one to another, one manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him.
- 43:07Now, in this verse, they saw him for who he was.
- 43:12They could see the demonstration of his power. They feared the wind and the
- 43:17wave less, and they feared him more in a reverent way.
- 43:23They feared the power and the truth of the creator in the storm.
- 43:28They were beginning to let him reveal himself and to unfold who he was.
- 43:33And they feared that storm. and now
- 43:36they were fearing the creator in the storm and that
- 43:39fear had torment and amazement but now they feared the
- 43:42power at the end of this they
- 43:45once feared the creator for the storm for
- 43:49the fear for the torment that was absolutely eating at them but blessed be the
- 43:55lord they kick in their face they see who he is he reveals himself to them and
- 44:01now they're fearing the power and the grace of the Redeemer in the calm.
- 44:06In the storm, they had fear.
- 44:10In the calm, they had peace. What was the difference? In the storm,
- 44:15their eyes were not fixed on Jesus.
- 44:17In the peace and the calm, it was.
- 44:23Feared the Redeemer in the calm, and they feared the Lord in His goodness.
- 44:27And it satisfied them. It helped them. And they gave glory to the Lord.
- 44:34The storm that was meant to take them down revealed Jesus in all of His glory.
- 44:40And when they activated their faith that's required, they praised Him.
- 44:46What manner of man is this?
- 44:49Who is He? Who is He to you?
- 44:53What manner of man is this, they all did say, that the winds and seas obey?
- 45:02What is it you? Who is it you?
- 45:06Have you asked yourself, what manner of man is this, that the winds and the seas obey?
- 45:13He's the one who sails with me. He's the master of the sea.
- 45:20Jesus loves me. This I know.
- 45:24And without faith, it is impossible to please him.
- 45:28And you must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
- 45:36What matter of man is this, that the winds and the seas obey?
- 45:43Let's pray. Lord, I pray that you would take these broken words,
- 45:48that you would hold them tightly in our minds and our hearts,
- 45:53that we would see you revealed,
- 45:56that we would understand you're at the helm.
- 45:59And when your eyes are asleep, they never sleep nor slumber.
- 46:03So as fully man, when you were asleep, your heart was awake.
- 46:07And your heart is full of love for each of us. And you wish that none should
- 46:12perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- 46:16Shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. So tonight,
- 46:20for that broken heart, let's walk in through the storm.
- 46:24Reveal yourself to them.
- 46:27Encourage them to employ their
- 46:29faith. For that person who has a broken relationship, reveal yourself.
- 46:36For those who've studied all day and trouble has hit tonight,
- 46:41reward them with your presence.
- 46:45Oh, what matter of man you are! What is man that thou art mindful of him,
- 46:50and the son of man that thou visitest?
- 46:53Tonight, make yourself known to each and every one of us.
- 46:59To God be the glory for the great things he has done and all that he will continue to do.
- 47:06In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
