Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
- 0:08Speaker 2: news twice a week.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm Kate Torber.
- 0:10Speaker 3: I'm Sophie Torber.
- 0:11Speaker 4: And I'm Amy Torber. And coming up on today's show,
- 0:15Speaker 4: Sarah's Day's surprising brand deal admission, Olivia Rogers' old money
- 0:19Speaker 4: baby name, and Tammy Hembrough's photoshopped stellar cover. But first,
- 0:24Speaker 4: the influencer world is healing. Sharni Grimmond and Michael Finch
- 0:28Speaker 4: have reunited on TikTok after years of not posting together.
- 0:32Speaker 4: So I feel like we're in 2017 again. It really does.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And I'm here for the nostalgia.
- 0:36Speaker 5: So for those who haven't seen this video, it popped
- 0:39Speaker 5: up on TikTok over the weekend and in it, Sharni
- 0:42Speaker 5: and Michael revealed to the camera that they're back together.
- 0:45Speaker 3: They're hanging out. They appeared to be heading.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Out because they were very nicely dressed. Michael was in
- 0:49Speaker 5: a black shirt and trousers. And the video was posted
- 0:53Speaker 5: on what appears to be Michael Finch's secondary account. I
- 0:55Speaker 5: was really confused to begin with. I was like, is
- 0:57Speaker 5: this some sort of fan page for Michael Finch? Because
- 1:00Speaker 5: the username was a ton of random numbers, but it
- 1:02Speaker 5: has 50,000 followers. and only features videos of Michael Finch.
- 1:06Speaker 5: So I'm like, oh, okay, this is definitely his account.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Well, it makes sense that he's got a burner account
- 1:11Speaker 2: because him reuniting with Shani Grimman, as much as it
- 1:14Speaker 2: has excited millennials, it kind of goes against his cooking
- 1:17Speaker 2: content that he's known for now.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of off-brand for his cooking content, isn't it?
- 1:21Speaker 5: Now, Michael and Shani have since reshared the video on
- 1:24Speaker 5: their main TikTok accounts. And at the time of recording,
- 1:27Speaker 5: the video has over 500,000 views and 78,000 likes. There
- 1:33Speaker 5: was actually no caption on the video, but it still
- 1:35Speaker 5: managed to capture a lot of people's attention.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Do you know what blows my mind? That there would
- 1:40Speaker 4: actually be people out there who follow Michael Finch now.
- 1:44Speaker 4: And wouldn't have known a time where he and Sharni
- 1:46Speaker 4: are friends. Like they are just legitimately following him as
- 1:49Speaker 4: a food creator.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 5: I'm sure there's some who would also be surprised to
- 1:52Speaker 5: find out that he was an OG makeup influencer because
- 1:55Speaker 5: he really doesn't wear a lot of makeup anymore.
- 1:57Speaker 2: That's why I love Michael Finch so much. I love
- 1:59Speaker 2: that he has been able to evolve with the times
- 2:02Speaker 2: and continues to reinvent himself and remains popular on the platforms.
- 2:07Speaker 2: In terms of a caption, I don't think the real
- 2:09Speaker 2: needed one. I think it spoke volumes. It's saying, we're back.
- 2:12Speaker 2: We're still friends. And it created a lot of excitement
- 2:16Speaker 2: and buzz. I think there's a lot of people hoping
- 2:17Speaker 2: that this may be the first of many videos of
- 2:20Speaker 2: the pair back together.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I disagree. I think there should have been a simple caption.
- 2:23Speaker 4: It should have been one letter, Q.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Yes.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Or Bindi.
- 2:27Speaker 4: I actually found in the deepest, darkest part of my
- 2:31Speaker 4: chest of drawers some old pink and white socks that
- 2:34Speaker 4: were Michael Finch branded. They had Q on it. And
- 2:37Speaker 4: so one foot said thank and the other one said Q.
- 2:39Speaker 4: And I was like, fuck, these are old. I probably
- 2:41Speaker 4: should throw these out. But because I barely have worn them,
- 2:44Speaker 4: they're in the best condition.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Don't throw them out. I reckon you should start wearing them.
- 2:48Speaker 5: I was going to say they're iconic, but apparently that
- 2:50Speaker 5: is a phrase that we throw around too much on
- 2:52Speaker 5: this podcast as well.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Don't worry, Sophie. I wore these with great pride. They
- 2:55Speaker 4: didn't match my shoes whatsoever, but I'm known to rock
- 2:58Speaker 4: and odd socks. I don't really care what the socks
- 3:01Speaker 4: looked like.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I need to now find my Q hat because I
- 3:04Speaker 2: think you gave it to me as a birthday present.
- 3:05Speaker 4: I forgot they even had the hats. I feel like
- 3:07Speaker 4: he would have made absolute bank on that because I
- 3:09Speaker 4: remember the socks being quite expensive at the time. Maybe
- 3:13Speaker 4: they were like 30 bucks.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I mean, they might've made a lot of it, but
- 3:15Speaker 2: I think it all got spent on designer items.
- 3:18Speaker 5: I was quite surprised to see him in a Hermes
- 3:21Speaker 5: belt before because remember he sold a lot of his
- 3:23Speaker 5: designer gear when he wasn't doing so well in the
- 3:26Speaker 5: influencer space. Maybe now that he's changed over to food content.
- 3:30Speaker 5: He's making bank again and thinks, oh, maybe I can
- 3:32Speaker 5: have a few of these designer pieces again.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I just love the hysteria that Michael and Sharni created
- 3:37Speaker 2: over this post. So one follower wrote, this is the
- 3:39Speaker 2: best thing to come out of 2026 already. And another said,
- 3:43Speaker 2: and suddenly my show is back from the dead. Other
- 3:46Speaker 2: people were feeling quite nostalgic. Like someone wrote, I'm back
- 3:49Speaker 2: in high school spamming. Thank you, Bindi, all over again.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Because this video was posted on Michael Finch's secondary account,
- 3:56Speaker 5: I was really intrigued to see if they'd posted about
- 3:58Speaker 5: each other on Instagram as well. And I noticed that
- 4:01Speaker 5: Shani posted that Michael delivered her homemade cookies. And Michael
- 4:06Speaker 5: also shared an Uber selfie from the night out with Shani,
- 4:09Speaker 5: as well as photos of a very fancy cocktail that
- 4:11Speaker 5: he and Shani shared.
- 4:13Speaker 4: So, I mean, they're back on, aren't they?
- 4:15Speaker 1: It's clear that they.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Want everyone to know about it. So it's got me thinking,
- 4:18Speaker 2: what does this actually mean? Yeah, are they teasing us about.
- 4:22Speaker 5: A return to YouTube or will we see them vlogging
- 4:25Speaker 5: maybe on TikTok?
- 4:26Speaker 4: I feel like they just got silly and had a
- 4:28Speaker 4: few drinks and thought, let's post this online on Michael's
- 4:31Speaker 4: burner account and see how much attention it actually gets. No.
- 4:34Speaker 5: I definitely think that they're testing the water to see
- 4:37Speaker 5: if the demand is there. And there is definitely a
- 4:39Speaker 5: want for them to return. I actually can't believe it's
- 4:42Speaker 5: been almost a decade since their social media heyday. Like
- 4:45Speaker 5: it's making me feel old.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Well, Sophie, you might be onto something because I've noticed
- 4:48Speaker 4: Sharni's been posting a bit more over the last couple
- 4:51Speaker 4: of months than usual. She was at Australian Fashion Week.
- 4:54Speaker 4: And she was sitting front and centre with Styled by Bloom.
- 4:57Speaker 4: She looked absolutely incredible.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Yeah, he styled her on a number of occasions before.
- 5:03Speaker 5: I mean, she does still have her swimwear line, Silk Swim.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Well, she was there last year, but I definitely think
- 5:10Speaker 2: her social media presence has ramped up.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I mean, she was also at Coachella.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Did you guys see all those influencers, side note, who
- 5:16Speaker 4: got caught in the rain at one of the shows?
- 5:18Speaker 1: It was all over TikTok.
- 5:19Speaker 4: They were like hiding their hair. Shiny was at that show.
- 5:22Speaker 1: What about that show that was at Bondi Beach? I
- 5:24Speaker 1: think it was.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And there was just a guy. who refused to actually
- 5:28Speaker 2: acknowledge there was a fashion show going on and just
- 5:30Speaker 2: went down to the beach to have his usual swim.
- 5:31Speaker 4: I love that.
- 5:32Speaker 1: And they were like runway models walking past him.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Is that like the same woman who sat on the
- 5:36Speaker 4: beach when Harry and Meghan just walked through? Just like,
- 5:38Speaker 4: I'm not moving my towel.
- 5:40Speaker 1: It was exactly the same vibe.
- 5:42Speaker 5: Do you know who we have to spare a thought
- 5:43Speaker 5: for with this reunion, who is probably hitting very hard,
- 5:46Speaker 5: is Skye Wheatley. Because she and Michael, of course, had
- 5:49Speaker 5: a falling out And recently she's sort of been throwing
- 5:53Speaker 5: out a bit of a bone that she wants to
- 5:54Speaker 5: be friends with him again.
- 5:55Speaker 3: She was talking about it on her podcast.
- 5:57Speaker 5: But he doesn't seem to want a bar of it
- 5:59Speaker 5: because a lot of people were saying this would have
- 6:00Speaker 5: been more iconic if it was Michael Finch and Sky
- 6:03Speaker 5: Wheatley popping up that they were friends again.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Disagree. It was always Sharni and Michael. It always felt
- 6:08Speaker 2: like Sky was trying to be a part of that group,
- 6:10Speaker 2: but always on the outer.
- 6:12Speaker 5: No, but it's because Sky and Michael legitimately had a
- 6:15Speaker 5: falling out. Whereas I think that Sharni and Michael have
- 6:18Speaker 5: still been friends in the background.
- 6:19Speaker 1: But they had a falling out years ago.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I remember there was a big blow up between them.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Is it just me or does Sky Wheatley strike you
- 6:25Speaker 4: as that sort of friend who you could probably see
- 6:28Speaker 4: them once every month, but they're so chaotic and full
- 6:31Speaker 4: on that they're quite draining, like lovely. but you're like,
- 6:34Speaker 4: I need to see this person in small doses. Whereas
- 6:36Speaker 4: Sharni seems like somebody who she's got her own stuff
- 6:39Speaker 4: going on. She seems a bit more chill and you
- 6:41Speaker 4: could just, you could see her after months of not
- 6:43Speaker 4: seeing her, but just pick up where you left off.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I mean, I do get.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That vibe, but I think that Skye would be one
- 6:49Speaker 2: of those friends who is really invested and really.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Caring as well.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Like she might be a bit chaotic and probably talk
- 6:55Speaker 2: a lot about her life, but I think it would
- 6:56Speaker 2: be really entertaining.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And I think she would have your back.
- 6:59Speaker 2: In terms of reunions, Do you think we'll ever see
- 7:03Speaker 2: anything like we've seen recently for Laguna Beach, how they've,
- 7:06Speaker 2: you know, got everyone back after 20 years? Do you
- 7:08Speaker 2: think in 10 years' time maybe we could hold it?
- 7:11Speaker 2: We could have our own influencer reunion.
- 7:13Speaker 4: That's actually a great idea. Lily Brown wouldn't attend.
- 7:17Speaker 3: No, because she's blocked us.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Recently you guys put a call out to another influencer
- 7:22Speaker 4: who happened to pick up on it. There may have
- 7:24Speaker 4: been a phone call. Are you guys trying to manifest
- 7:27Speaker 4: something else here? Are you trying to manifest a reunion?
- 7:29Speaker 5: I actually think this would be a wild live show
- 7:32Speaker 5: to be a part of. In saying that though, we
- 7:35Speaker 5: could be seeing a OG influencer reunion in a couple
- 7:39Speaker 5: of weeks because Lily Brown is tying the knot to
- 7:42Speaker 5: Jet Kenny. So it'll be interesting to see which of
- 7:44Speaker 5: her old friends actually get a call up.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I'm sure Lily Brown would, you know, be totally open
- 7:49Speaker 2: to us doing a reunion just before her wedding.
- 7:52Speaker 5: We give it to all of the guests. I mean,
- 7:55Speaker 5: maybe we could do a bit of a gift bag.
- 7:56Speaker 5: We could have some of the smelly pyjamas in there,
- 7:58Speaker 5: hand them out. I mean, again, I want to say, though,
- 8:01Speaker 5: she actually has done great things with her brand since.
- 8:03Speaker 5: I'm not just sucking up so that she appears at
- 8:04Speaker 5: our reunion. But, you know, Chili, it's actually a pretty
- 8:07Speaker 5: cool brand now. It's called Chill, Sophie.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Chill, sorry. Why do I always think it's Chili?
- 8:12Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I called it Chili.
- 8:14Speaker 3: No, but I see everyone wearing her dressing gowns.
- 8:16Speaker 4: No, we had to yell at you before, Sophie, because
- 8:18Speaker 4: you pronounced Hermes, Hermes. And I was like, fucking hell,
- 8:21Speaker 4: we're going to get littered with negative reviews that you're
- 8:24Speaker 4: going to lose your shit over. You know what, though?
- 8:26Speaker 5: We should clip it up on TikTok because people go
- 8:28Speaker 5: nuts for when you pronounce something wrong.
- 8:29Speaker 3: The post will absolutely go off.
- 8:30Speaker 4: I don't know if it's a positive thing, though.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I feel like you're rage baiting.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're just rage baiting. What was the other
- 8:36Speaker 2: brand that we kept pronouncing wrong?
- 8:37Speaker 1: Dolce & Gabbana.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Let's not bring that up again.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Did you say Gabbana? Like the meat.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I think I still pronounce it wrong. I want to
- 8:45Speaker 2: put it out there to outspoken listeners. Can you tell
- 8:48Speaker 2: us who you would want us to interview on this
- 8:51Speaker 2: type of reunion show?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Because I actually think we need to make it happen.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 8:54Speaker 1: We should get Chris Fox.
- 8:56Speaker 4: She was besties with Michael Finch and she does a
- 8:58Speaker 4: lot of makeup stuff. She's from New Zealand. And remember
- 9:01Speaker 4: there was some ad where someone dubbed all of their
- 9:03Speaker 4: catchphrases over. I think it was for like, hey Google
- 9:06Speaker 4: or something.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Alexa, wasn't it?
- 9:07Speaker 3: Alexa, yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 4: It was like, hey Alexa. It was like, I got
- 9:10Speaker 4: a dick in my mouth.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Like it was.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Yeah, because when they would vlog, they would always order
- 9:14Speaker 5: an Eggs Benedict and they'd be like, Eggs Benedict in
- 9:17Speaker 5: my mouth.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Can Michael Finch please go back to vlogging?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Please. Dad, how do you spell cantaloupe? Cantaloupe.
- 9:27Speaker 5: T-N-D-A-N-T.
- 9:32Speaker 2: See ya.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Fucking see ya.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Alexa, how do you spell cantaloupe?
- 9:37Speaker 6: L-M-A.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Fuck, fuckity, cunt, shit, bitch, what? Motherfucker, bitch-ass, dick.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Hey, assholes, vagina, cunt, slut, motherfucker, bitch-ass.
- 9:46Speaker 4: After more than a week on Baby Watch, Olivia Rogers
- 9:49Speaker 4: has announced the arrival of her baby boy. And just
- 9:53Speaker 4: as predicted, his name is giving old money vibes.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Oh, it really is.
- 9:57Speaker 5: So Olivia made the announcement on Instagram. Instagram sharing a
- 10:01Speaker 5: close-up video of her baby boy's face and writing our
- 10:04Speaker 5: boy Albert Nigel Brakey is here with a blue love
- 10:08Speaker 5: heart emoji. Before we get into the name, I want
- 10:11Speaker 5: to say I was actually quite surprised by this announcement
- 10:14Speaker 5: post because I wanted to see a photo of Olivia
- 10:17Speaker 5: and Hugo with the baby.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Usually, influencers are in the photos.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Well, she later shared.
- 10:23Speaker 2: A photo of her and Hugo holding Albert on an
- 10:25Speaker 2: Instagram story, but I was surprised that wasn't the main photo.
- 10:29Speaker 2: It was also interesting that she actually chose to share
- 10:32Speaker 2: Albert's face because she Previously, she's spoken about the fact
- 10:35Speaker 2: that she wasn't sure what she was going to do.
- 10:38Speaker 2: There seems to be a bit of a trend at
- 10:39Speaker 2: the moment of influencers being happy to share their newborn's faces,
- 10:43Speaker 2: but then stopping showing them at around, I don't know,
- 10:45Speaker 2: three to six months old.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Well, they do change so much. I mean, looking back
- 10:49Speaker 4: at photos of my son when he was a baby,
- 10:51Speaker 4: he looks nothing like he does at one year. That
- 10:54Speaker 4: being said, Albert looks a dead ringer for his dad.
- 10:57Speaker 3: So I don't know how much he's going to change.
- 10:59Speaker 3: It's quite interesting you bring.
- 11:01Speaker 5: That up though, Kate, because over the weekend, Laura Henshaw
- 11:05Speaker 5: and her baby Atlas were on the front cover of
- 11:07Speaker 5: the Sunday Life magazine. And literally the baby's face was
- 11:12Speaker 5: everywhere because she has chosen to share it. But then
- 11:14Speaker 5: part of the story was her saying, I'm not going
- 11:16Speaker 5: to show his face anymore. Like after this marketing campaign,
- 11:19Speaker 5: I'm not.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Going to show anymore.
- 11:21Speaker 5: Like I understand that her intentions are good, but from
- 11:24Speaker 5: an outside perspective, someone who is maybe critiquing the situation,
- 11:28Speaker 5: it kind of looks like, oh, okay, I've got some
- 11:31Speaker 5: PR opportunities out of his face being readily available. But
- 11:35Speaker 5: now that I'm probably going to go back to work,
- 11:37Speaker 5: I'm not going to be showing his face and.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Bringing him around anymore.
- 11:40Speaker 4: The boomers were having a field day in the comments section.
- 11:42Speaker 4: They're like, wait a sec, why is the kid's face
- 11:44Speaker 4: in this magazine article?
- 11:46Speaker 2: I think there was a bit of rage baiting going
- 11:48Speaker 2: on from Sunday Live because they literally juxtapositioned that quote
- 11:52Speaker 2: next to a picture of Laura and Atlas, which obviously
- 11:55Speaker 2: created a lot of the commentary. I very much support
- 11:59Speaker 2: influencers changing their minds. I think you only know what's
- 12:03Speaker 2: right for you once you have a baby and then
- 12:04Speaker 2: when they get older. Because for me, I showed photos
- 12:08Speaker 2: of my son up until he was a year old.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And then after that, it just didn't feel right. Like
- 12:14Speaker 2: I was thinking, well, who am I posting these photos for?
- 12:17Speaker 2: And I think when you start overthinking it and it
- 12:19Speaker 2: starts to make you feel uncomfortable, you have every right
- 12:22Speaker 2: to say, oh, okay, well, I'm going to choose not
- 12:24Speaker 2: to do this anymore.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Do you know what's shit though? It's not like anyone
- 12:27Speaker 4: ever attacks the father for sharing the photo. Like I've
- 12:30Speaker 4: never heard a dad who's an influencer be like, oh, well,
- 12:34Speaker 4: they've chosen to share his face. It seems to be
- 12:36Speaker 4: a very gendered thing that we seem quite judgmental of
- 12:39Speaker 4: women who choose to do it. I think it was
- 12:40Speaker 4: just the juxtaposition of saying, I'm not sharing his face.
- 12:43Speaker 3: And then there was a huge photo of his face.
- 12:44Speaker 4: No, no, I get that.
- 12:45Speaker 3: That's why it looks stupid. Anyway, getting back to Olivia Rogers'
- 12:49Speaker 3: baby name.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It had very.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Royal vibes, didn't it?
- 12:52Speaker 5: I mean, I assume that he's not going to be
- 12:54Speaker 5: referred to as Albert, he's actually going to be Bertie,
- 12:57Speaker 5: which I love.
- 12:58Speaker 4: That is our parents' cat's name. When I saw it,
- 13:00Speaker 4: I thought that he's going to be known as Albie.
- 13:02Speaker 4: That's what I thought.
- 13:04Speaker 5: Not Bertie.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Either or. I think both are really cute.
- 13:07Speaker 2: That's what surprised me though because normally if the child
- 13:10Speaker 2: is going to be known as a nickname, you would
- 13:13Speaker 2: normally see the parents write Albert and then like in
- 13:16Speaker 2: quotation marks Albie or Bertie.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Nigel Brakey.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Like I'm surprised that it hasn't been referenced that they're
- 13:22Speaker 2: using a nickname.
- 13:23Speaker 5: I think it's so refreshing to see an influencer actually
- 13:26Speaker 5: give their baby a A traditional name.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Is that the new trend?
- 13:29Speaker 2: Because Brooke Hogan recently named her son Jack, which I
- 13:32Speaker 2: was cheering for because that's my son's name. I think
- 13:35Speaker 2: that might have been inspired by Justin Bieber's child.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Baby Jack, hallelujah.
- 13:41Speaker 4: I had to tell Kate the other day that that
- 13:42Speaker 4: was actually in Justin's hallelujah song. She's like, wait, are
- 13:45Speaker 4: you taking the piss?
- 13:46Speaker 3: I'm like, no.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Haven't you seen it all over TikTok?
- 13:49Speaker 2: I've seen everyone's take on it, but you just kept
- 13:51Speaker 2: taking the piss with it. That's why I thought I
- 13:53Speaker 2: was actually correct.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I actually didn't know that because I haven't listened to
- 13:55Speaker 4: the full song either. It's so cute.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Now, at the start of the year, we did an
- 13:59Speaker 5: influencer predictions episode and you guys were correct. The middle
- 14:02Speaker 5: name is Nigel, which was Hugo's dad's name. He sadly
- 14:04Speaker 5: passed away when Hugo was at high school.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I think this is a really beautiful touch.
- 14:09Speaker 5: You also got pretty close with the first name saying
- 14:11Speaker 5: there'd be old money vibes, but you didn't quite get
- 14:13Speaker 5: it right.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Let's throw to what your predictions were.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I'm guessing... something in the realm of Rupert, Monty, even
- 14:22Speaker 2: maybe a family name. So Hugo's father sadly passed away
- 14:26Speaker 2: when he was in year 12. So I'm actually not
- 14:28Speaker 2: sure what his dad's name is, but maybe his dad's
- 14:30Speaker 2: name could be the middle name. I even think Jack
- 14:33Speaker 2: could be in there, which is a family name of
- 14:35Speaker 2: Olivia's cousin who very sadly passed away as well. Yeah,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I had the name Montgomery down on my list, Monty
- 14:41Speaker 2: for short. Because as you said, she gives an old
- 14:44Speaker 2: money vibe. Her niece and nephew are called Winnie and Walter.
- 14:48Speaker 2: So I could see Monty fitting in quite well there.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Maybe Olivia heard this and she did have Monty on
- 14:54Speaker 5: the list. It was like, fuck, I don't want them
- 14:55Speaker 5: to get the full name, right?
- 14:56Speaker 1: I mean, we were definitely on the theme.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's quite funny because I've only just discovered that Hugo's brother's.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Name is Rupert. So I'm thinking, God, we really were
- 15:05Speaker 1: on it there.
- 15:05Speaker 5: We had a couple of listeners sliding into our DM saying,
- 15:09Speaker 5: oh my God, Do you reckon she's giving birth today?
- 15:12Speaker 3: When is it happening?
- 15:13Speaker 5: Because she put up a TikTok where she was painting
- 15:17Speaker 5: some bookshelves for her nursery saying that she was 39
- 15:20Speaker 5: weeks pregnant and she can't believe she's about to meet
- 15:22Speaker 5: her son. So that caused a bit of a stir.
- 15:25Speaker 5: This week she also put out a podcast where she
- 15:28Speaker 5: interviewed her partner Hugo and he was really honest in
- 15:31Speaker 5: this chat. He spoke about how shocked he was. for
- 15:35Speaker 5: about a week after he found out the baby news
- 15:37Speaker 5: because it did come as a surprise. And he seems
- 15:40Speaker 5: to be really rattled by the news in saying that
- 15:43Speaker 5: he seems to have been incredibly supportive. He's been reading
- 15:46Speaker 5: all of the baby books. So it's going to be
- 15:47Speaker 5: really beautiful to see how they do in the trenches
- 15:51Speaker 5: in the first couple of weeks.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Well, I'm very interested to see if they lean towards
- 15:55Speaker 2: Albie or Bertie.
- 15:56Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 15:57Speaker 3: I like Bertie. Bertie is such a cute name.
- 16:00Speaker 5: I just can't wait to see more content, but we
- 16:03Speaker 5: are actually blocked by Olivia Rogers for it. So shout
- 16:05Speaker 5: out for those who have sent us the baby announcement
- 16:08Speaker 5: so we can have a bit of a, a bit
- 16:09Speaker 5: of a squiz, but yeah, wishing them all the best.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It's beautiful news. I'm not calculated. I'm conscious.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Sarah's day has revealed she turns down 99.9% of brand deals,
- 16:22Speaker 2: choosing instead to focus on releasing her own products. The
- 16:25Speaker 2: OG YouTuber confessed building her own personal brand has been
- 16:29Speaker 2: key to her longevity in the industry. So Sarah made
- 16:33Speaker 2: the admission on UK influencer Grace Beverley's podcast. She has
- 16:37Speaker 2: recently been getting the scoop with Aussie influencers. Yeah, because
- 16:40Speaker 2: back in April, she was in Australia interviewing a ton
- 16:43Speaker 2: of local influencers as part of a mini series she
- 16:46Speaker 2: was putting together. So far, she's dropped episodes with Kayla Itzinas,
- 16:50Speaker 2: Zara and Michelle from Shameless, and now Sarah's Day. Some
- 16:54Speaker 2: pretty epic talent from Australia. I'd love to see her
- 16:56Speaker 2: analytics and see how many more Aussie listeners she's been
- 16:59Speaker 2: getting because I've been tuning in This is a podcast
- 17:02Speaker 2: I've never listened to before.
- 17:03Speaker 5: I bet they had to make sure that they weren't
- 17:05Speaker 5: interviewing the Shameless team and then Sarah's Day back to
- 17:09Speaker 5: back because obviously they became really popular when they did
- 17:13Speaker 5: a segment on sort of calling out Sarah's Day for
- 17:16Speaker 5: spreading medical misinformation. And I think that Sarah was one
- 17:19Speaker 5: of the first influencers to block them and they seemed
- 17:22Speaker 5: a bit rattled by that.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I couldn't actually imagine those three women talking. I wonder
- 17:26Speaker 2: if Shameless could ever get Sarah's Day on their podcast.
- 17:29Speaker 5: I feel like they go on a bit of an
- 17:30Speaker 5: apology tour with people. So, you know, they could potentially
- 17:34Speaker 5: talk her into going on the show.
- 17:35Speaker 1: They have mass appeal.
- 17:37Speaker 3: It wouldn't be completely off the cards, I don't think.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, recently we've seen Shameless and Mamma Mia
- 17:43Speaker 2: reconcile over being interviewed on each other's podcast. So potentially,
- 17:47Speaker 2: I mean, I'd be very interested in that episode. Now, anyway,
- 17:50Speaker 2: back to Grace Beverly's interview with Sarah, the episode was
- 17:54Speaker 2: called Breaking Free from Toxic Fitness Culture and Building a
- 17:57Speaker 2: Routine That Works. It was a bit awkward that that
- 18:00Speaker 2: was the title because I feel like that is the
- 18:03Speaker 2: direction that Grace Beverly wanted to go in with the
- 18:06Speaker 2: podcast because she has really pushed away from that toxic
- 18:10Speaker 2: diet culture herself. Whereas I don't really think that Sarah's
- 18:13Speaker 2: Day is in that place yet. And that sort of
- 18:15Speaker 2: came through in the interview. I think Sarah's Day thinks
- 18:18Speaker 2: that she's in that place because she referenced, oh, I
- 18:20Speaker 2: eat bread now and I sometimes have lollies. But you
- 18:22Speaker 2: can see that the diet culture really still does control her.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, she did touch on how she has
- 18:29Speaker 5: this new relationship with the gym and how her body's
- 18:32Speaker 5: changed since motherhood. But yeah, you can tell me she
- 18:36Speaker 5: was talking about her new workout guide, which has been
- 18:39Speaker 5: slammed for being quite problematic. What I did find most
- 18:42Speaker 5: fascinating though about this chat with Grace was her approach
- 18:46Speaker 5: to the influencer space. So she admitted that she actually
- 18:49Speaker 5: doesn't follow any other vloggers. She definitely wouldn't be listening
- 18:53Speaker 5: to Outspoken if that's the case. And she said that
- 18:56Speaker 5: the content she consumes is very different to the content
- 18:59Speaker 5: that she creates herself. She also revealed that when it
- 19:02Speaker 5: comes to brand opportunities, she says no to almost everything.
- 19:06Speaker 5: And that is partly to do with the season of
- 19:08Speaker 5: life that she's found herself in with young kids.
- 19:11Speaker 3: But also it is a strategy of hers. Let's take
- 19:14Speaker 3: a listen to what she said.
- 19:16Speaker 6: I guess going back to your previous question of what
- 19:18Speaker 6: are potentially influencers doing wrong or how can they ensure
- 19:23Speaker 6: that they have longevity in this career? don't get too
- 19:26Speaker 6: excited by the short wins, like the collaborations, because that's
- 19:29Speaker 6: not going to build your brand. If anything, it might
- 19:32Speaker 6: detract because people hate to see sponsored stuff. A lot
- 19:35Speaker 6: of my energy right now is in building my own products.
- 19:38Speaker 6: I'm very, very, very conscious and decisive with collaborations. And
- 19:45Speaker 6: my collaborations, they're long lasting ones for like five years.
- 19:48Speaker 6: Like KiwiCo, it's like a subscription brand that's like for
- 19:52Speaker 6: kids Once Upon which is like family photo albums I
- 19:55Speaker 6: say no to I would say 99.999% of collaborations I
- 19:59Speaker 6: say no to unless I'm genuinely using the product.
- 20:01Speaker 1: They slide into my emails.
- 20:02Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, I'm actually using you.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 3: So that's fine.
- 20:05Speaker 6: But in terms of my time, I'd rather build and
- 20:08Speaker 6: I'm working on my second cookbook. I love 560 and
- 20:12Speaker 6: the pregnancy workout guide. So it's a lot of my
- 20:15Speaker 6: time if I'm not with my kids, I like building.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And I just want to do collaborations.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 1: It doesn't like fill my soul.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I think Sarah is in a pretty unique position as
- 20:24Speaker 2: an influencer because she's been in the industry for over
- 20:27Speaker 2: 10 years. Okay. She might not have as many people
- 20:30Speaker 2: buying her products as she did back in her heyday
- 20:32Speaker 2: in the early 2010s, but she definitely manages to shift
- 20:36Speaker 2: a lot of product. We saw that with the 360 challenge.
- 20:40Speaker 2: I think around 2000 or 3000 people bought her guide
- 20:44Speaker 2: and that equated into a massive cash injection for her.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I think we predicted at the time it would have
- 20:49Speaker 2: been about $ 300, 000 or $ 400, 000 made.
- 20:52Speaker 1: So you can see why she's doing that.
- 20:54Speaker 3: I actually think it's pretty good advice.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I mean, I don't necessarily think that every influencer out
- 20:59Speaker 5: there should start up their own brand, but I do
- 21:02Speaker 5: think a lot of influencers need to be more strategic
- 21:05Speaker 5: when it comes to brands that they choose to align with.
- 21:08Speaker 5: I think there is a lot of power in saying no,
- 21:10Speaker 5: because you instantly lose trust in an influencer. Well, you
- 21:13Speaker 5: can tell that they're just chasing the cash and they
- 21:15Speaker 5: align with a product that they clearly would never use.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I totally get that.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I think that you have to be savvy about the
- 21:21Speaker 2: brand deals that you take on and then also put
- 21:24Speaker 2: effort into creating content that doesn't just feel like an ad.
- 21:28Speaker 2: But recently we've seen this influx of influencer brands shutting down.
- 21:33Speaker 2: They're not making as much money as they used to.
- 21:35Speaker 2: We touched on Lily Brown earlier in this episode, but
- 21:38Speaker 2: she's been very vocal about the fact that she found
- 21:41Speaker 2: doing influencer brand deals a lot easier than having her
- 21:44Speaker 2: own business. So I think you have to be firstly
- 21:47Speaker 2: in the top echelon of influencers that have a big
- 21:49Speaker 2: enough impact that people actually want to buy what they're selling.
- 21:52Speaker 2: And then you also have to be very business minded,
- 21:55Speaker 2: like Britt Saunders, like Sammy Robinson, and actually build a
- 21:59Speaker 2: brand that stands alone.
- 22:01Speaker 5: I think she was trying to point out that people
- 22:03Speaker 5: don't want to be constantly sold to in such an
- 22:05Speaker 5: overt way. And you're never going to be successful as
- 22:08Speaker 5: an influencer if you're purely doing that. Because A lot
- 22:11Speaker 5: of influencers fall into a trap where you only see
- 22:14Speaker 5: them on Instagram if they are spruiking something.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Whereas with Sarah, because she back.
- 22:19Speaker 5: In the day was so big on YouTube, I mean,
- 22:22Speaker 5: she put out a lot of content, three videos a week.
- 22:24Speaker 5: She was really giving you insight into her life with
- 22:28Speaker 5: ads cleverly weaved throughout. That being said, she is an
- 22:32Speaker 5: influencer who doesn't often declare ads, which sometimes gets her
- 22:37Speaker 5: into hot water.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I think back in the day, she was a master.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Of putting ads in a video without people realising they
- 22:44Speaker 2: were ads. I mean, brands like Tropica were synonymous with
- 22:48Speaker 2: Sarah's Day. Like, you would have thought Sarah's Day had
- 22:51Speaker 2: shares in Tropica.
- 22:52Speaker 3: She probably did.
- 22:53Speaker 5: I mean, I think she's also probably saying to influencers,
- 22:56Speaker 5: don't necessarily just slap your name on any old product,
- 22:59Speaker 5: but maybe you should be strategic about where you're putting
- 23:02Speaker 5: your money. So maybe invest in some products behind the scenes,
- 23:05Speaker 5: similar to what she's doing with Hiro. I mean, there
- 23:08Speaker 5: are a lot of young influencers who I currently watch
- 23:11Speaker 5: And I keep thinking, I really hope that you're investing
- 23:14Speaker 5: some of that money into property or somewhere else because
- 23:17Speaker 5: people aren't always going to be interested in you, particularly
- 23:20Speaker 5: when the market is so oversaturated.
- 23:22Speaker 2: It was funny because despite saying she's not a big
- 23:24Speaker 2: fan of paid collaborations, she joked that this is her
- 23:27Speaker 2: year of saying yes and joked that people can send
- 23:30Speaker 2: opportunities her way.
- 23:32Speaker 5: I mean, she said as long as she uses the product,
- 23:34Speaker 5: she doesn't have a problem promoting them.
- 23:35Speaker 2: It is interesting though, because over the last couple of years,
- 23:38Speaker 2: she has cut ties with a lot of brands that
- 23:40Speaker 2: she has worked with. a long time with like White
- 23:43Speaker 2: Fox Boutique, Tropica. And I think she was in a
- 23:47Speaker 2: stage of trying to get new brands in. But I
- 23:50Speaker 2: think once she hits that quota of having a handful
- 23:52Speaker 2: of brands, that's when she starts turning brandings away.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 23:56Speaker 5: She was really reflective in this interview as well. It
- 23:59Speaker 5: was quite interesting to listen to. Grace asked if she
- 24:02Speaker 5: trusts her instincts now more than she did earlier in
- 24:05Speaker 5: her career. Let's take a listen to what she said.
- 24:08Speaker 6: I think I'm just a lot more mature and I
- 24:10Speaker 6: think back in the day I wouldn't consider.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Repercussions or consequences.
- 24:16Speaker 3: And I didn't have.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Little people looking up at me, my kids, and.
- 24:20Speaker 1: So I would share everything. I didn't care.
- 24:23Speaker 6: I was like I would share everything about myself, my
- 24:26Speaker 6: medical history, everything going on.
- 24:29Speaker 1: So I think I'm just a lot more.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Conscious now that my actions don't just affect me but
- 24:35Speaker 6: they affect someone. my children, their schooling, their friends, their teachers.
- 24:40Speaker 6: I'm so aware that a lot of people in our
- 24:42Speaker 6: inner circle are watching us.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So I'm not calculated, I'm conscious.
- 24:48Speaker 2: It's interesting because I find that Sarah's day always manages
- 24:51Speaker 2: to skirt around taking accountability for her past actions. I
- 24:55Speaker 2: think this is her way of touching on that medical
- 24:59Speaker 2: misinformation drama without actually acknowledging it or taking accountability.
- 25:05Speaker 1: For it as such.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 5: I mean, if that is genuinely how she feels, I
- 25:09Speaker 5: think it would be a good move for her to
- 25:10Speaker 5: remove some of those videos that she now sees are
- 25:13Speaker 5: potentially damaging.
- 25:14Speaker 3: That being said, I think that when you.
- 25:16Speaker 5: Do become a mother, you do have a complete change
- 25:20Speaker 5: in the way that you think. I mean, it's good
- 25:22Speaker 5: that she is now thinking about how her videos and
- 25:24Speaker 5: her content are going to affect her children. It definitely
- 25:27Speaker 5: made it sound like her YouTube channel has been a
- 25:29Speaker 5: topic of conversation and amongst the mums at the school.
- 25:33Speaker 5: I mean, this is probably pretty obvious considering the podcast
- 25:35Speaker 5: that we have, but if my son went to school
- 25:39Speaker 5: with a child whose mum was an influencer, I'd definitely
- 25:42Speaker 5: be tuning into their content to see what they were
- 25:44Speaker 5: up to.
- 25:44Speaker 1: And if they mentioned the school or the teachers, I'd
- 25:47Speaker 1: be like, oh, what did they say?
- 25:50Speaker 4: This week, Tammy Hembrough set tongues wagging after appearing on
- 25:53Speaker 4: the cover of Stellar magazine. The mega influencer opened up
- 25:57Speaker 4: about her high-profile hookup with Bailey Smith and the double
- 26:01Speaker 4: standards facing women. Yet the focus online quickly turned to
- 26:05Speaker 4: Tammy's face.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I mean, for those who haven't seen the cover photo,
- 26:09Speaker 2: Tammy's face has been incredibly smoothed out.
- 26:12Speaker 1: It has been photoshopped within an inch of its life.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Like I literally couldn't see some of her facial features
- 26:17Speaker 2: because they were so smoothed out.
- 26:19Speaker 5: I don't like people commenting on other people's appearances. But
- 26:23Speaker 5: in this case, it actually did take me a while
- 26:26Speaker 5: to realize it was Tammy Hember. I just want to
- 26:28Speaker 5: demonstrate how much editing went into this photo. I mean,
- 26:31Speaker 5: she's an incredibly attractive woman. She definitely did not need
- 26:34Speaker 5: this level of editing. It was just ridiculous. What made
- 26:37Speaker 5: things more awkward was alongside these photos, Stella also shared
- 26:42Speaker 5: a video of Tammy's podcast interview with them, and they
- 26:45Speaker 5: had footage of from the photo shoot that was used
- 26:48Speaker 5: as overlay. And in the vision, Tammy looked noticeably different.
- 26:52Speaker 5: And that is what a lot of people were saying
- 26:54Speaker 5: in the comment section.
- 26:55Speaker 3: It absolutely erupted.
- 26:56Speaker 5: One user wrote, looks completely different in the video of
- 26:59Speaker 5: these shots. Stop over editing women. Another said, love an
- 27:03Speaker 5: airbrushed photo that doesn't even look like you, but well done.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I found the commentary really interesting because it was only
- 27:10Speaker 2: at the start of this year that that there was
- 27:13Speaker 2: similar backlash when Tinder launched their ads featuring Tammy Hembrough
- 27:17Speaker 2: and Bailey Smith. And a lot of people were saying,
- 27:20Speaker 2: oh my God, Tammy Hembrough looks so different in this
- 27:22Speaker 2: vision compared to the photos that she posts. And a
- 27:25Speaker 2: lot of people were saying how heavily she Photoshop stuff.
- 27:28Speaker 2: And now the commentary is, oh my God, it's Photoshopped
- 27:31Speaker 2: even next level to the stuff that you post yourself.
- 27:33Speaker 4: I mean, at the time we came to the conclusion
- 27:35Speaker 4: that we thought that the Tinder ads people had done
- 27:38Speaker 4: Tammy dirty because the lighting was absolutely atrocious. And as
- 27:42Speaker 4: a videographer, I want to point out, it was similar
- 27:46Speaker 4: lighting in the Stella interview. Who was using this pinky
- 27:50Speaker 4: purple tone? It didn't look flattering for Tammy or for
- 27:52Speaker 4: the host.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Look, I definitely think there was an element of bad lighting,
- 27:55Speaker 2: but what I think has become apparent is Tammy Hembrough
- 27:58Speaker 2: really likes to control how her images go out on
- 28:01Speaker 2: her own platform. And I wonder how much say she
- 28:04Speaker 2: had in the airbrushing of that image that went out
- 28:06Speaker 2: with Stella magazine.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Like was it in her.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Contract that she had to approve the image before it
- 28:11Speaker 2: went out? Because it did really look different to the
- 28:14Speaker 2: filming of her behind the scenes.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Now, Kate, in terms of this interview, it was a
- 28:17Speaker 4: bit disappointing because Tammy really didn't say anything new. She
- 28:21Speaker 4: touched on some of the stuff to do with Bailey Smith.
- 28:23Speaker 4: And I'm assuming that Stella wanted to drop his name
- 28:26Speaker 4: in this interview to make it, I suppose, more relevant
- 28:29Speaker 4: to their wider audience.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they were trying really hard to get some good
- 28:33Speaker 2: soundbites to share on social media, but we've heard everything.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I mean, A lot of what she said she'd already
- 28:38Speaker 2: discussed months ago on Jade Tunchi and Lockie Brikey's podcast.
- 28:42Speaker 2: She also touched on the criticism that she receives when
- 28:45Speaker 2: she goes on brand trips. Again, she already spoke about
- 28:47Speaker 2: that on her TikTok. It has been a big week
- 28:49Speaker 2: for her PR wise in terms of mainstream media because
- 28:53Speaker 2: she's been appearing at Australian Fashion Week. And it was
- 28:56Speaker 2: this week that she decided to hard launch her new boyfriend,
- 28:59Speaker 2: Grayson T. Moana on her Instagram account. So she's appeared
- 29:03Speaker 2: at quite a number of public events with him. But
- 29:05Speaker 2: it's the first time she's actually shared a photo of
- 29:08Speaker 2: him to her 16 million followers where he's in full sight.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Like there's been a little bit of soft launching here,
- 29:12Speaker 2: but this was really a hard launch.
- 29:14Speaker 4: Do we know how many followers he gained off the
- 29:16Speaker 4: back of this?
- 29:17Speaker 1: Oh, hardly any. Like no one is wanting to follow
- 29:19Speaker 1: this guy.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Now, the photo in question was taken of the couple
- 29:23Speaker 2: before their appearance at Carla Zampatti's show at Australian Fashion Week.
- 29:28Speaker 2: We need to talk about their outfits because they were matching.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So Tammy was wearing a sheer skirt that showed off
- 29:33Speaker 2: a black g-string underneath and had a black corset top,
- 29:36Speaker 2: while Grayson was wearing a matching sheer top with oversized
- 29:40Speaker 2: black tracksuit pants it kind of reminded me of when
- 29:43Speaker 2: Olivia Rogers and Morgan Waterhouse were dating and they wore
- 29:46Speaker 2: that couple's outfit to Australian Fashion Week it had that
- 29:49Speaker 2: really cringy vibe.
- 29:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:51Speaker 4: It was kind of like, hey, look at us. I mean,
- 29:53Speaker 4: I know that is Australian Fashion Week, but I was like,
- 29:56Speaker 4: oh my God, I really felt for Grayson's ex-girlfriend.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I mean, that's the whole vibe of the couple though.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I mean, when Tammy posted this photo, Grayson commented underneath soulmate.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I mean, come on.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Oh my God.
- 30:08Speaker 1: More like rebound.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Well, I think we've got to go by that old saying,
- 30:12Speaker 2: if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it.
