- 0:03Speaker 2: Three!
- 0:04Speaker 3: More Mark.
- 0:05Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show. Now nine till noon weekdays.
- 0:11Speaker 4: 710WOR.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Let's take some calls. Let's go to, uh, let's go to, uh,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Gina in Staten Island. Gina, how you doing?
- 0:21Speaker 4: I'm good.
- 0:22Speaker 3: How are you, Mark?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Very good.
- 0:23Speaker 5: Okay.
- 0:25Speaker 3: I'm calling because I was in the city yesterday and
- 0:28Speaker 3: I met Caroline Schenkel. And I was very impressed with her.
- 0:31Speaker 3: And she's standing on the corner on the Upper West Side.
- 0:35Speaker 3: And I said, you're very brave to be out here.
- 0:37Speaker 3: And I hope she wins. And I did early voting.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I did R all the way down. And also, I
- 0:42Speaker 3: had just come out of the Museum of Natural History.
- 0:45Speaker 3: And I was upset because I was on a tour.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And the tour guide starts asking people, where are you from?
- 0:50Speaker 3: So this kid goes, I'm from Ireland, and she says,
- 0:53Speaker 3: the tour guide, oh, I wish I was there right
- 0:55Speaker 3: now because of what's going on in this country. And
- 0:57Speaker 3: I just looked at her like, what the? And I said, okay,
- 0:59Speaker 3: you're in Manhattan. Calm down. So I just left the tour.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I was like, instead of fighting with her, I just
- 1:04Speaker 3: walked away.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Just ignore it. They're like silly little children, just whiny
- 1:11Speaker 1: little children. Caroline Schinkel is a very good candidate. She's
- 1:14Speaker 1: running in Congressional District 12. That's Jerry Nadler's old seat.
- 1:19Speaker 1: It's part west side, part east side. So vote for
- 1:23Speaker 1: Caroline Schinkel. Election Day coming up. So you're from Staten Island.
- 1:29Speaker 1: That's New York. You shouldn't be a tourist on a
- 1:32Speaker 1: tour bus looking at the museums.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I couldn't help myself. No, it was inside.
- 1:39Speaker 3: They do tours on the half hour, and it's usually good.
- 1:42Speaker 3: They don't talk about politics, but this woman, I was like, oh,
- 1:45Speaker 3: my God.
- 1:45Speaker 1: That's going to happen. Just ignore it. Just laugh.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I said, I'm not going to fight. I just walked away,
- 1:50Speaker 3: and I just took a deep breath. And then I
- 1:51Speaker 3: ran into Caroline Schenkel outside, and I said, okay, I
- 1:53Speaker 3: feel better now about life.
- 1:55Speaker 1: All right. Just laugh at these people. They're just children.
- 1:58Speaker 1: They're like little children. Thanks for calling. Let's go to
- 2:03Speaker 1: Shelly in Long Island. Shelly, how are you doing?
- 2:06Speaker 5: Hey, Mark. How are you doing? I love this show.
- 2:08Speaker 5: You always make everything better. I just wanted to say that. Um,
- 2:12Speaker 5: I saw the Billy Crystal show. It was very funny,
- 2:15Speaker 5: but I will say, I don't know. Did you see it?
- 2:17Speaker 1: No, not yet.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Oh, okay. Well, he did spend a good eight minutes
- 2:22Speaker 5: bashing Trump.
- 2:23Speaker 6: And everybody who was liberal in the audience was clapping.
- 2:26Speaker 5: They were so happy about it.
- 2:28Speaker 6: And then he glosses over the reason that his house
- 2:32Speaker 6: burnt down. He didn't name names. He barely mentioned that
- 2:36Speaker 6: the reservoirs were empty. He didn't really talk about the
- 2:39Speaker 6: fact that the firefighters couldn't find water. He was very
- 2:42Speaker 6: specific about not going after anybody.
- 2:45Speaker 5: In California about that. And I really was disappointed, to
- 2:48Speaker 5: be honest with you.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Well, all right. That's a good point. If it's a
- 2:51Speaker 1: bias-slanted Trump derangement syndrome show, I guess we can avoid it.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But it's Billy Crystal. He doesn't know anything about politics.
- 3:01Speaker 1: You know, if you ask Billy Crystal... To break down
- 3:04Speaker 1: quantum physics, I don't think he'd be very good at
- 3:06Speaker 1: that either.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Very true. But I'm curious to hear what you say
- 3:11Speaker 5: after you've seen it. It is funny. I will give
- 3:14Speaker 5: you that. But I did not like that part.
- 3:15Speaker 4: All right.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Now that you've said that, I'm not going to see it.
- 3:17Speaker 1: That's it. I'm not going to see it.
- 3:19Speaker 5: There you go.
- 3:20Speaker 1: If it's that biased.
- 3:20Speaker 5: There you go.
- 3:21Speaker 4: All right.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Thanks for the warning. Thanks for calling. Let's go to
- 3:26Speaker 1: Jim in New Jersey. Jim, how are you doing?
- 3:29Speaker 4: I had to call in. I went to a one-man
- 3:31Speaker 4: show in New York November 2nd. 2002. It was at
- 3:35Speaker 4: the Little Theater, Helen Hayes Theater.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:37Speaker 4: And I got there early to make sure I knew
- 3:39Speaker 4: where I was going. It was Good Night Gracie. Okay, Mark?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah, who was that? I forgot who it was.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Oh, I'm going to get to that in a sec, Mark.
- 3:49Speaker 4: So next to it, as you know, you spent many
- 3:51Speaker 4: times there.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Sardi's.
- 3:53Speaker 4: I've never been in Sardi's. So I went up. The
- 3:55Speaker 4: doorman said, can I come in? I'm dressed.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Come on in.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I went to the bar. Very nice bartender. I had
- 4:01Speaker 4: a couple of beers, paid my tab. I said, let
- 4:03Speaker 4: me go back. And I turn, and who's standing there
- 4:06Speaker 4: with a baseball cap over his face, a cigarette down
- 4:09Speaker 4: to the nub? I'd met him before at an autograph show.
- 4:13Speaker 4: It was the star of the show, Frank Gorshin. And
- 4:16Speaker 4: I went up to him. I said, shouldn't you be
- 4:18Speaker 4: getting ready?
- 4:18Speaker 1: You're building this up like you met the greatest star
- 4:21Speaker 1: in the world, like it's going to be some unbelievable.
- 4:24Speaker 1: It turns out it's Frank Gorshin?
- 4:27Speaker 4: He was the star. He was in George Burns' pit
- 4:29Speaker 4: for the hour and a half.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Frank Gorshin was a brilliant impressionist, great impressionist, one of
- 4:36Speaker 1: the best ever. But if you took him out on
- 4:38Speaker 1: the street and stopped everybody in the streets, I'll give
- 4:40Speaker 1: you $ 10, 000. You can tell me who this guy is. Nobody.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Well, it was 2002. He's past his prime. But anyhow,
- 4:45Speaker 4: we talked about Batman. We talked about, he played the
- 4:48Speaker 4: Riddler in Batman. And he actually, at the end, Mark,
- 4:51Speaker 4: I'll leave you with this. When I helped, I think
- 4:53Speaker 4: he did it for me. He took forest, you know,
- 4:55Speaker 4: bows at the end and he walked off the stage
- 4:58Speaker 4: dancing like the Riddler. So he, It was a great memory, Mark.
- 5:01Speaker 4: If you got that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Excited about meeting Frank Gorshin, I'm going to introduce you
- 5:04Speaker 1: to Larry Storch. How's that? That will get you really excited.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Oh, I met him many times.
- 5:08Speaker 1: See, there you go.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Yes, I did. Thanks, Mark.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Let me test you on other names. Let me see.
- 5:13Speaker 1: We've got to stump this guy.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I met them all.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Milt Kamen.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Never met him.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Oh, right. That's a comedian in the 60s. Let me
- 5:21Speaker 1: try another. Nipsey Russell.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Oh, I would have loved to have met him, but
- 5:29Speaker 4: I don't think he did the autograph conventions.
- 5:31Speaker 1: All right. They go to these autograph conventions.
- 5:34Speaker 4: I met Ernest Borg twice, Mark. Ernest Borg twice. Not twice.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Both times he was in his 90s. All right. He
- 5:40Speaker 4: was at the autograph convention. So there you go.
- 5:43Speaker 1: All right. Thanks for calling. They go to these autograph conventions,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and they line up forever to meet Joe Flynn, who was–
- 5:52Speaker 1: the commander on McHale's Navy or, you know, the guy
- 5:55Speaker 1: that played the neighbor on All in the Family. This
- 5:57Speaker 1: is what they do at these autograph conventions. Let's go
- 6:00Speaker 1: to Vincent in Brooklyn. Vincent, how you doing?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Mark, you got me cracking up. I remember Nipsey Russell. Mark,
- 6:07Speaker 2: Kathy Hochul and Alvin Bragg must have heard your show
- 6:11Speaker 2: yesterday because look what happened when Kathy Hochul saw that
- 6:17Speaker 2: the union representing the Con Edison workers had printed placards saying,
- 6:23Speaker 2: They had to get a permit to protest down in
- 6:26Speaker 2: Foley Square. I'll bet anybody anything they want. Kathy Hochul
- 6:32Speaker 2: last night called up Alvin Bragg and said, hey. I'm
- 6:37Speaker 2: up for re-election. We can't have the black community turning
- 6:42Speaker 2: on us. She gave him a call in the middle
- 6:46Speaker 2: of the night and said, you upgrade those charges. And
- 6:49Speaker 2: on the news yesterday, they said, oh, well, they were
- 6:52Speaker 2: constantly investigating the program. Let me tell you how this
- 6:56Speaker 2: is going to go down. And hey, pal, you want
- 7:00Speaker 2: to save some money on your lawyer's fees? Listen to
- 7:03Speaker 2: Uncle Vincent. When you go to court next month, you're
- 7:07Speaker 2: not going to spend Thanksgiving with your family. They're going
- 7:11Speaker 2: to revoke your bail because that's what the wife and
- 7:13Speaker 2: the sister is screaming out. And normally, second-degree murder, you
- 7:19Speaker 2: don't get bail. Look, they didn't even give Diddy bail.
- 7:23Speaker 2: So let me tell you, pal, this is what you
- 7:25Speaker 2: should do. You should, when you go into court next time, cop.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Cop the plea. Because if you put the system through,
- 7:34Speaker 2: spending all this money to prosecute you, you're going to
- 7:37Speaker 2: make it worse. So this way, if you cop.
- 7:40Speaker 1: A plea— And I think you're absolutely right about everything.
- 7:47Speaker 2: He's not going to get bailed.
- 7:49Speaker 1: We've got to go do the news, Vincent. You've got
- 7:51Speaker 1: to stop at some point. But you're absolutely right. Absolutely right.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Thanks for calling. Now, why would Alvin Bragg have to
- 7:58Speaker 1: listen to Kathy Hochul? She's his boss. District attorney's a
- 8:02Speaker 1: state job. The governor can remove district attorney, so he
- 8:05Speaker 1: would have to listen to her. Hey, when we come back,
- 8:07Speaker 1: Steve Moore, the brilliant economist. We'll talk to him next
- 8:10Speaker 1: on 710WOR.
