- 0:00I used to believe that rich people were evil, that marriage
- 0:03was gonna be hard, that I was the type of guy who couldn't

- 0:10came from. But they were quietly wrecking
- 0:12every area of my life, including my relationships.

- 1:19It's going to be 5 episodes long.
- 1:21And if you were here last week, we talked about how your wife
- 1:25perceives you and how to be the best version of yourself every
- 1:28time you're going to be around her.
- 1:30Super powerful message, super powerful episode.
- 1:32So if you missed that, definitely go back and check
- 1:35that out after this one. Lots of valuable information in
- 1:38there if you're trying to level up your marriage or if you're
- 1:40even trying to save your marriage.
- 1:42But yeah, welcome to episode 2 of this series.
- 1:45A little background on me, I don't know if I mentioned this
- 1:47last time, but I was in a relationship for 10 years and we
- 1:50had two kids together and I was a nightmare in that
- 1:53relationship. I did all of the wrong things
- 1:55thinking that I was doing all of the right things because nobody
- 1:58ever taught me how to be a husband, how to be in a
- 2:01marriage, or even how to properly communicate with a
- 2:03woman. And one day she packed up, she
- 2:05moved in with her parents and told me it was over.
- 2:08And I was left by myself. And I had two choices in that
- 2:11moment. Either I could crash and burn
- 2:13like everybody expected me to, or I can make the decision to
- 2:16level up myself, level up my life.
- 2:18So I dove into books, courses, content, podcasts.
- 2:22I learned as much as I possibly could.
- 2:24I got obsessed with learning what it means to be a man,
- 2:27especially in marriage and relationships.
- 2:29And that's what has called me to do this work is sharing all of
- 2:32the information that I learned over those years with men all
- 2:36over the world. And now I'm in my dream marriage
- 2:38with my dream wife and we have 4 awesome kids together.
- 2:42So I'm now a father of six. And that's a little bit of my
- 2:44story. That's why I'm here talking to
- 2:46you today. That is my credentials.
- 2:48And with all that being said, let's dive right into the
- 2:51episode. This message is titled The Mind
- 2:53of a Warrior husband Destroying the lies that are killing your
- 2:57marriage. You might have heard the term
- 2:58limiting beliefs before. It's really big in the personal
- 3:01development self help space. You hear it everywhere.
- 3:04Limiting beliefs. You got to destroy your limiting
- 3:06beliefs. And if you overhear it, it
- 3:08starts to sound a little cheesy, a little corny.
- 3:10It's what all coaches say, get rid of your limiting beliefs.
- 3:13But they are real and that's what we're going to be talking
- 3:16about today. And what I call them is life
- 3:18ruining fictitious mental constructs.
- 3:20I first called them that in my book Warrior Husband.
- 3:23And the reason that I called them life ruining fictitious
- 3:26mental constructs is because one, they're life ruining, 2,
- 3:30they're fictitious, they're not real.
- 3:31And three, they're mental constructs.
- 3:33They're made-up in your mind or they exist in your subconscious
- 3:36mind and they hold no base in reality.
- 3:38So you might ask yourself, where do limiting beliefs life ruining
- 3:41fictitious mental constructs, how do we begin to believe them?
- 3:45Where do they come from? Well, ever since we're little
- 3:48kids, we're being programmed and all of us are programmed
- 3:51differently. That's another fascinating way
- 3:53to look at it is I believe the things that I believe because I
- 3:56lived the life that I live and everyone around me, every person
- 4:00that you encounter has different beliefs, a different set of
- 4:02beliefs. They have their own set of
- 4:03limiting beliefs that might be completely different than yours.
- 4:06They come from things our parents told us, things our
- 4:09teachers told us, things our friends told us when we were
- 4:12growing up. They come from stupid things
- 4:14that kids told us when we were in middle school.
- 4:16You know what? Our entire lives were being
- 4:18programmed. You can even gain some new
- 4:21limiting beliefs in your adulthood.
- 4:22Like the process never really stops, but what's happening is
- 4:26it's building your belief framework, how you see the
- 4:29world, how you perceive the world and how it works.
- 4:31And some of the things we learn are true and some of the things
- 4:34we learn are nonsense. They don't make any sense.
- 4:37And a lot of them are universally believed things.
- 4:40Like let's give some examples of some life ruining fictitious
- 4:43mental constructs. One big one is that rich people
- 4:46are evil or they must be evil if they have a lot of money,
- 4:49because you can only get a lot of money if you do something
- 4:52wrong, if you wrong somebody else, if you're an evil person.
- 4:55And so you might think of all rich people as evil, when
- 4:58actually that holds no basic in reality, it's a life ruining
- 5:01fictitious mental construct. And that belief can actually
- 5:04hold you back from your success or even pursuing success because
- 5:08in the back of your mind you believe that if you were rich,
- 5:11somehow you are inherently evil. Another limiting belief that you
- 5:14might have gathered over the course of your life is that
- 5:17you're a shy, awkward person. And then that becomes a self
- 5:20fulfilling identity. You tell yourself that all the
- 5:23time and it keeps you from living a joyful life.
- 5:26You can't stand social situations.
- 5:28You get anxiety, you get nervous when you're going to be in a
- 5:30group setting because you have told yourself your entire life
- 5:33that you are shy. And if you trace that all the
- 5:35way back, somebody probably told you when you were eight years
- 5:38old that you were a shy person and you held on to that and told
- 5:41yourself that story your entire life.
- 5:43And you might be asking yourself, Michael, what does
- 5:45this have to do with marriage? This is a marriage series.
- 5:48Well, there are a ton of life ruining fictitious mental
- 5:51constructs that are programmed into us about marriage.
- 5:54And one of the big ones, one of the number one killers, is that
- 5:57marriage is hard or marriage is going to be hard.
- 6:00When you're a young man and you're going into getting
- 6:02married, people say, oh, you're gonna really have to work on it.
- 6:05It's going to be difficult. You better get some premarital
- 6:08counseling to prepare you for how horrible marriage is.
- 6:11And this belief is usually handed down by like, well
- 6:14meaning older relatives or you might have heard it a bunch of
- 6:18times in church, that marriage is miserable.
- 6:20It's going to be hard, that you're gonna have to work at it.
- 6:23And this is one of the most destructive beliefs that a man
- 6:26can carry into a marriage. And this is what's called a
- 6:29preconceived belief or a preconceived notion.
- 6:31When you go into something believing something about it,
- 6:34that outcome is based on that belief.
- 6:36So what happens when you go into your marriage believing that
- 6:40it's going to be miserable, that you're really going to have to
- 6:42work at it? What if the belief, the
- 6:44universal belief, is that marriage is the greatest thing
- 6:47that has ever happened to anyone?
- 6:49Everyone's striving and trying to get married because there
- 6:51couldn't be anything better. Everybody who's married is just
- 6:54so fulfilled and happy. What if people, those older
- 6:57people told you when you told them that you were getting
- 6:59married? What if they didn't say marriage
- 7:01is going to suck, it's going to be miserable, you better get
- 7:03some premarital counseling to prepare yourself for it.
- 7:05What if instead they said, oh you better get ready, you better
- 7:08get ready, it's going to be amazing.
- 7:10You are not even prepared for how awesome this is going to be
- 7:13to share your life with someone. What if that was the belief?
- 7:16How differently would you go into that marriage?
- 7:19Because here's the thing, marriage doesn't have to be
- 7:21hard. Ask me how I know.
- 7:23I'm in one of the best marriages I've ever heard of in my life.
- 7:25It's the best thing that's ever happened to me.
- 7:27Me and my wife are best friends. We want to spend every minute
- 7:31together. Marriage doesn't have to be
- 7:33hard. And maybe you're really having
- 7:35to work at it because you went into your marriage with this
- 7:38belief that's been normalized by society, that marriage is going
- 7:41to be hard. You know, the normalization of
- 7:44divorce, when in fact divorce is very weird.
- 7:47What is the point of committing to spending the rest of your
- 7:50life with someone if you could just break it off at any moment?
- 7:53It doesn't make any sense. It's a weird concept.
- 7:56Think about it. But it's been so normalized.
- 7:58Marriage problems have been so normalized that we believe these
- 8:01things. We go into our marriage
- 8:03expecting it to be hard, expecting there to be conflict,
- 8:06expecting for there to be problems.
- 8:08And you know, me and my wife disagree all the time.
- 8:11That's not what I'm saying. We have disagreements all the
- 8:13time, but they're not knockout drag out fights because we truly
- 8:16love each other. It becomes a discussion and then
- 8:19we move on and then we're happy again.
- 8:20So I'm not saying that conflict doesn't exist in marriage.
- 8:23In fact, I know and I say in my book Warrior Husband that it's a
- 8:27totally normal part of marriage and I have a whole chapter about
- 8:30how to handle conflict properly in a marriage.
- 8:33So like I said, it's completely normal.
- 8:35That's not what I'm saying. But what I'm saying is a lot of
- 8:38people go into marriage expecting it to be hard and
- 8:40therefore it is. And here's the truth.
- 8:43Most of those people who tell you that marriage is going to
- 8:45suck and marriage is going to be hard, if you really reflect and
- 8:48think on it, if you playback who said that to you, Those people
- 8:51are not happy in their marriages.
- 8:52They're miserable in their marriages and they're projecting
- 8:55that onto you. Most of them have been divorced
- 8:57a couple of times because they have no idea what they're doing.
- 9:00And they keep making the same mistakes over and over and over
- 9:03again, refusing to learn like you're learning from this series
- 9:06how to actually be in a marriage.
- 9:09Those people have no idea what they're talking about.
- 9:12If you go into your marriage expecting it to be miserable,
- 9:15guess what? You will find You will be
- 9:17miserable. When Michael Jordan dreamed of
- 9:19being the best basketball player in the world, what if somebody
- 9:22told him all basketball players are miserable?
- 9:25It's gonna suck and you'll probably never make a shot in
- 9:28your life. You should just give up right
- 9:29now. Would he go into basketball a
- 9:31little bit cautious, expecting it to be difficult?
- 9:34Do you understand what I'm saying?
- 9:35Because men, when somebody tells us we can't do something, we are
- 9:38driven to do it. But for some reason with
- 9:41marriage, everyone tells us it's gonna suck and we just accept
- 9:44that. Men just accept that and then
- 9:46let it suck instead of rising to the challenge, overcoming the
- 9:50challenge, saying you're wrong. Mine is different.
- 9:53So I gotta ask you, have you been living out your marriage
- 9:56with this belief in the back of your mind that marriage is hard,
- 9:59marriage is miserable, you're really going to have to work at
- 10:01it. You're going to have to go to
- 10:02couples therapy all the time because it just sucks so bad.
- 10:05Have you believed that? Have you expected for it to be
- 10:08hard instead of just truly making it great?
- 10:11And the whole 2nd chapter in my book Warrior Husband is about
- 10:15dismantling these false beliefs and gives many more examples of
- 10:18these life ruining fictitious mental constructs when it comes
- 10:21to marriage. I spend a lot of time in that
- 10:24book of the specific life ruining fictitious mental
- 10:26constructs that show up in marriage.
- 10:28So if you feel like you're marriage has been operating
- 10:31under a set of invisible rules that aren't working, this book
- 10:35will help you name them and destroy them and replace them
- 10:38with the truth. I also put everything that I
- 10:41know about marriage, relationships and communication
- 10:43with women into that one book. So if that is something you want
- 10:47to dive into, grab it in the description of this episode.
- 10:50That's Warrior Husband, How to Be a Better Husband and Save
- 10:53Your Marriage by Michael Riggs. You know what another huge
- 10:56problem is when it comes to false beliefs around marriage?
- 10:58Is the content work consuming, You know, the squirrel squirrel
- 11:01scroll? You might see it on your feet
- 11:03all the time. I saw one guy who's a divorce
- 11:06lawyer and his whole brand online is warning men about
- 11:09marriage and how women screwed men over and how marriage is
- 11:12terrible and you should never get married and gives the worst
- 11:14case scenarios, the worst examples.
- 11:17And of course the guy doesn't believe in marriage.
- 11:19He's a divorce lawyer. Think about it.
- 11:21He sees the worst examples, the worst cases.
- 11:23And when it really comes down to it, those people should have
- 11:26never been married in the 1st place.
- 11:27That's not everybody, those people didn't truly love each
- 11:30other and they are out to hurt each other and get each other.
- 11:32That's not the example. That's like the non example of
- 11:36how a marriage should be. There's another lady online, I
- 11:39don't even know her name. She's like a red haired girl
- 11:41with a dork face. She talks bad about women and
- 11:43that all women are evil. That's what her whole constant,
- 11:45her whole brand is about is that women will screw you over.
- 11:48They're evil, watch out for women and never get married and
- 11:51all that stuff. Well, she's just a hateful,
- 11:53miserable person who has built a brand around negativity.
- 11:56That doesn't mean that she knows what she's talking about.
- 11:59So don't let people, stupid people in content, fill your
- 12:02mind with negativity that's ultimately feeding you false
- 12:05beliefs, brainwashing you into believing all these false things
- 12:08that are ultimately destroying your life and destroying your
- 12:11marriage. Another life ruining fictitious
- 12:13mental construct when it comes to marriage or going into a
- 12:16marriage is that women are evil, that they're gonna screw you
- 12:19over. They'll take everything from
- 12:20you. If you go into your marriage
- 12:22believing that, if you have that fear in you, if that's a belief
- 12:25that you truly hold in your mind, in your body and in your
- 12:28spirit, you are never going to to be happy in your marriage.
- 12:31You're never gonna treat your wife as she should be treated
- 12:33because you're always waiting for her to stab you in the back.
- 12:36How is that constructive? And here's a hard truth.
- 12:39Women often don't screw over guys who are doing marriage
- 12:42right, who are good men. It's just the truth.
- 12:44If you're one of those guys who's been screwed over in the
- 12:47past, you're gonna say something along the lines of I did
- 12:50everything right and she still screwed me over.
- 12:52Well, really think about that. Did you?
- 12:54Did you do everything right? I get comments and messages from
- 12:57guys all the time talking about how their ex wives, they're
- 13:00horrible people and they screwed them over.
- 13:02They stabbed them in the back, took everything from them, how
- 13:04they were an evil person. And my message back to them
- 13:07every single time is and I'm sure you were a perfect Angel,
- 13:10right? Then they get defensive and do
- 13:12the same thing. I was a Goodman.
- 13:13I did everything right. I don't understand.
- 13:15No, no, no, no, no, no. You're lying to yourself bro.
- 13:18That's why I teach men to look within.
- 13:20It takes a wise man to look within instead of pointing the
- 13:22finger at the other person. Be honest with yourself.
- 13:25How good of a husband were you in that relationship?
- 13:28But I'm getting a little heated here on that.
- 13:29I'm going off topic, let's get back to what we were talking
- 13:32about. The man who refuses to look
- 13:34inwards will repeat the same mistakes, the same patterns
- 13:38forever. And the man who chooses to
- 13:40accept the truth, look inward and say I need to optimize
- 13:43everything about myself and my own life has the power to change
- 13:47everything. Remember what I said at the
- 13:49beginning of the episode? When my ex left, she moved out.
- 13:52It's a complete shocker to me. And I had the two choices of
- 13:55either crash and burn and self destruct, like everybody
- 13:58expected me to become a failure, succumb to the situation or rise
- 14:02to the challenge, become my best self that I ever possibly could.
- 14:05I chose to rise. I chose to learn what it means
- 14:08to be a man. One time I worked up the courage
- 14:11and I sent her a message and I said, I'm so sorry for who I was
- 14:15in that relationship. You didn't deserve to be treated
- 14:17like that. You didn't deserve to be talked
- 14:19like that. And I'm not like trying to suck
- 14:21up to you or anything. I genuinely wanted to say sorry.
- 14:24And that's one of the greatest things that I've ever
- 14:27experienced in my life is accepting like, wow, I was a
- 14:30piece of crap. And now that I'm seeking being
- 14:32better in my life, I made it a point to apologize to her.
- 14:35Whereas most men keep the battle going with their ex.
- 14:38They keep pointing the finger at her and saying she was the
- 14:41problem. I did everything right.
- 14:42They refused to accept to look inward and say I could have been
- 14:46better and that's OK. So now I'm going to move forward
- 14:49and be better in my life. True transformation came when I
- 14:53stopped blaming her, stopped blaming other people, stopped
- 14:56blaming my past and began blaming myself.
- 14:59That's a really hardcore way to put it and it's difficult to go
- 15:02through that process, but I had to look in and correct myself.
- 15:06And when it comes to limiting beliefs, false beliefs, these
- 15:08life ruining fictitious mental constructs that we hold in our
- 15:12minds, the way that we see the world, the way that we
- 15:14experience the world, the way that we perceive everything.
- 15:17It takes a lot of work to think your way out of all these false
- 15:20beliefs. So you need a proven framework
- 15:23to work through them step by step.
- 15:25And that's built into the Reforged Husband complete
- 15:27system, the mindset work, the identity work, the practical
- 15:31steps, it's all in there, organized so you can actually
- 15:35implement it instead of feeling motivated for a day and then
- 15:38falling back into the same patterns, making the same
- 15:41mistakes. The men who go through this
- 15:43program don't just feel better, they become different.
- 15:46There is transformation. Reforged Husband is an online
- 15:49program that I created that takes you through video lessons,
- 15:52reading sections, challenges and exercises that you can begin
- 15:56implementing right away. Dude, it is the fast track to be
- 16:00becoming an epic, leveled up husband.
- 16:02You can listen to a couple of podcast episodes.
- 16:04It's all in there. But there's something about
- 16:06investing in an online program and actually going through it
- 16:10that's an investment, a commitment, and that prevents
- 16:12you from just being motivated for a day and then just falling
- 16:15into the same patterns. Like I said, it's real
- 16:18implementation. There's a difference between
- 16:20learning something and actually implementing it in your real
- 16:23life. So if you want to dive into the
- 16:25Reforged Husband complete system, the link for that is in
- 16:28the description of this podcast. But how do you get rid of false
- 16:31beliefs when there's so many of them?
- 16:33It's about identifying what they are and then shifting the
- 16:36belief. You can do this on paper.
- 16:38You can do it in a journal. When a belief pops up into your
- 16:41mind, you can write it down and then write down why that's not
- 16:44true. Every time one of those false
- 16:46beliefs pops up into your head, I realize what it is and then
- 16:49shift the belief. Be really intentional about
- 16:51this. You know the false beliefs like
- 16:53I'm ugly, women aren't attracted to me.
- 16:55Remind yourself, really think through it and be like, no, I'm
- 16:58handsome, beautiful women talk to me all, all the time.
- 17:00My wife loves me. That should have been the first
- 17:02one, but you know what I'm saying?
- 17:04Just shift the belief into a more positive belief.
- 17:06Every time one of those false beliefs pops up into your head.
- 17:09Marriage sucks. It's going to be difficult.
- 17:11No marriage can be the best thing that's ever happened to
- 17:13me. Marriage is good.
- 17:14I love my marriage, I love my wife.
- 17:16Marriage sucks for other people because they don't understand
- 17:20marriage, you know, just shift the belief.
- 17:21That's how you get rid of these life ruining fictitious mental
- 17:25constructs as being really intentional about identifying
- 17:28them, reprogramming your mind and shifting your belief
- 17:30systems. And this doesn't mean that all
- 17:32beliefs are false or all beliefs are wrong.
- 17:35It's identifying which ones have been holding you back in your
- 17:38life, holding you back in your marriage, destroying your life.
- 17:41That's why I call them life ruining.
- 17:42What you believe about your life becomes your reality.
- 17:45What you believe about yourself as a husband and what you
- 17:48believe about your marriage will become your reality.
- 17:51So believe good things for your marriage.
- 17:53Believe good things for yourself as a husband.
- 17:56Begin believing for a great marriage, a happy, thriving
- 17:59marriage instead of a marriage that's going to be miserable.
