Transcript
- 0:00Well look at that, this fucking guy, Don Dixon, after the helpful friend following his
- 0:07unfortunate discovery shared something else of interest regarding Eric's private life,
- 0:12but he thought my provide illumination in the case.
- 0:16He said that Eric had recently told him about a new relationship that he had struck up,
- 0:22supposedly with a Polynesian woman, who happened to be married.
- 0:27Oh no!
- 0:30Hi Cassie.
- 0:40Hi Caitlyn.
- 0:41Hi Creepy people.
- 0:43Oh hello!
- 0:46This is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where...
- 0:49What is it that we do again?
- 0:51I'm just kidding.
- 0:51We chat about true crime, the paranormal, and all things creepy in the Pacific Northwest.
- 0:57Or the PNW.
- 0:59If you're nasty.
- 1:01Oh, we did that good.
- 1:03That was good.
- 1:04I didn't know you were joining me.
- 1:06I felt I was feeling it.
- 1:08I feel like that's probably about the same as when you're in one of those churches, you
- 1:15know, and people feel the spirit.
- 1:17I felt your spirit, for sure, your nasty spirit.
- 1:20My nice spirit.
- 1:22What else do we do here?
- 1:24Oh, I think we do some tarot reading at the end of every episode.
- 1:28For a little deeper insight into our topic.
- 1:32All right.
- 1:33Should we get into it?
- 1:34I...
- 1:35Yeah.
- 1:36Let's do it.
- 1:37I'm ready.
- 1:38Let's go.
- 1:39Okay, great.
- 1:40Your enthusiasm is as per usual underwhelming.
- 1:45Eric Tamiyasu was born November 23rd, 1959, to parents Mitsugi, who went by mits,
- 1:54and Jinko Jean Kiyomura.
- 1:57Tamiyasu.
- 1:58JNCO Jeans?
- 1:59Isn't that like a thing?
- 2:01That's...
- 2:02Yeah.
- 2:03It's going to take a lot to get me out of that.
- 2:05Luckily, I think I'm going to refer to her as Jean, which was what she went by.
- 2:10Okay.
- 2:11I like the Mitsy.
- 2:12What is it, Mits?
- 2:13Mits.
- 2:14Not Mitsy, that's a cat name.
- 2:15But like...
- 2:16Yeah.
- 2:17Or, or, or, or, or, or, or, mitsie kind of has a little bit of a feminine air to it.
- 2:20And Mits.
- 2:21Mits is.
- 2:22Eric's dad.
- 2:23Okay.
- 2:24Mits was born and raised in Hood River, a graduate of Hood River High School in 1941.
- 2:31Wow.
- 2:32Yeah.
- 2:33Probably not a lot of people out there in 1941.
- 2:35No.
- 2:36And...
- 2:37Do two events?
- 2:41Sometimes there would be less people.
- 2:43Do you remember anything about the '40s?
- 2:46World War II?
- 2:47Yes.
- 2:48I'm so good.
- 2:49Only because we've talked about it recently in a bunch of episodes for some reason.
- 2:54We sure have.
- 2:55Yeah.
- 2:56I think we've discussed.
- 2:57World War II is sort of like my Roman Empire sometimes.
- 3:01Yeah.
- 3:02Yeah.
- 3:03Anyways, that one war.
- 3:06During World War II, mits and his family were forcibly relocated like many other Asian Americans.
- 3:13That old thing.
- 3:14That old thing.
- 3:16They were halted camps in both Wyoming and California.
- 3:21When they were eventually released, the family returned to their family orchard in Hood River.
- 3:27Oh, an orchard.
- 3:29Yeah.
- 3:30Because Hood River is like the fruity place.
- 3:32It's the fruit loop and stuff.
- 3:34Yes.
- 3:35I want to focus on the good stuff.
- 3:39Yeah.
- 3:40Yeah.
- 3:41Well.
- 3:42Yeah.
- 3:43I'm coming in hot with not a lot of good stuff and I'm going to be honest.
- 3:47This is I went back story and I was looking for some good, good folksy, awesome stuff and
- 3:56it's there.
- 3:57And then it's also real dark.
- 4:01This is also where mits met and fell in love with Jean Kiyomera who herself was an
- 4:08organ native born in Portland.
- 4:11Our family had also endured internment during the war at Minidoka in Idaho.
- 4:19Have we talked about that place before?
- 4:21Yeah.
- 4:22Okay.
- 4:23That sounds really familiar.
- 4:24I thought that might ring a bell.
- 4:27Yeah.
- 4:28Unfortunately.
- 4:31Shortly after she graduated from high school and the family was released, she went to work
- 4:36as a nurse for Shriners Children's Hospital in Minnesota.
- 4:41Okay.
- 4:42Despite the harsh realities, they had faced during wartime.
- 4:46Both were young people who seemingly went on to thrive and give much of themselves to
- 4:52those around them.
- 4:53Aww.
- 4:54I mean, a nurse at a children's hospital.
- 4:57Seriously.
- 4:58Yeah.
- 4:59It's unclear from my research what eventually brought her back to the state of Oregon, but
- 5:04once she made her way, the couple quickly united in a whirlwind romance.
- 5:09Oh, I love a good whirlwind.
- 5:12I know.
- 5:13In the post-World War II era.
- 5:15Oh.
- 5:16Say World War II whirlwind romance.
- 5:18Five times as.
- 5:19I barely said it one time.
- 5:22Thank you very much.
- 5:24Thank you and good night.
- 5:27The pair started a family and went on to have four children.
- 5:31Stan, Eric, Teresa, and Ramona.
- 5:37Jean seemed to revel in their fruitful life, tending to their children as well as orchard
- 5:45with her husband and some of their extended family.
- 5:49Having access to all of the finest fresh fruit one could want, led to legendary expertise
- 5:56in making her own jams, jellies, and particularly pies.
- 6:01I was literally thinking about like jam, jam.
- 6:09She was an accomplished woman when it came to traditional endeavors and homemaking and
- 6:14child rearing, but she was also passionate about her more leisurely endeavors like Cross stitch,
- 6:22playing the piano, and she was also a serious Portland Trailblazers fan.
- 6:27Wow.
- 6:28I know.
- 6:29Super wholesome.
- 6:30I know.
- 6:32And it's interesting because some of her hobbies in particular reminded me so much of Chris's
- 6:39mom all across stitch the Blazers adorable.
- 6:43I love it.
- 6:47She also kept in touch with many friends from all over by sending letters in her beautiful
- 6:53curse of handwriting.
- 6:54Oh, look at good handwritten letter.
- 6:57I know.
- 6:58I have terrible handwriting.
- 7:00So I'll bring you a letter and I'll make it smell real nice, but it's not going to look great.
- 7:06I mean, it might look great in the sense that do you enjoy gel pens?
- 7:12I mean, yeah, the shimmery kind.
- 7:14Oh, hell yeah.
- 7:15For sure.
- 7:16Mm-hmm.
- 7:17If you have bad hand, or you have to write in a gel pen, it's the law.
- 7:21I think so.
- 7:22Yeah.
- 7:23The tone is about to shift.
- 7:25And we're not even really getting to the sad sad.
- 7:27Sad sad.
- 7:28There's more sad than just normal sad.
- 7:30There's actually just layers of sad.
- 7:33Oh, yeah.
- 7:35I thought, let me open this with something light.
- 7:37How about a little bit of a chat about, I don't know, something casual like jams and jellies
- 7:44and, you know, the government forcibly in turning its own citizens.
- 7:51Yeah, that's disgusting.
- 7:53I hate it.
- 7:55That's the light part.
- 7:57Jean passed away at age 88 in May of 2013, just two years after her husband.
- 8:04They both seemed to have lived very full lives and both passed in May just two years and a
- 8:10handful of days apart.
- 8:15Though myths would live 80 of his 88 years in the very same house that he grew up in, his
- 8:22life was far from doldrum.
- 8:24They both died at 88 also.
- 8:26Oh, my gosh.
- 8:27I know it took me a little bit as I was reading through the information about both of them
- 8:33and, you know, their lives and then their passing.
- 8:36And I was like, are you kidding me?
- 8:38It's very notebook.
- 8:39Yeah.
- 8:40I don't know.
- 8:41Like, same month, two years apart, same age.
- 8:44And I was in that strange, but it's very strange.
- 8:49First off, if nothing else, there's a bizarre synchronicity of their passing.
- 8:54But myths actually died on Friday the 13th.
- 8:58Wow.
- 8:59A very lucky day, but we died on it, so I know.
- 9:02I just think it gives real bad ass vibes, you know.
- 9:06But getting back to the land of the living, myths traveled abroad extensively with his beloved
- 9:13local lions club, enjoyed foraging, fishing, and even collected antiques.
- 9:20Kind of a cool gay.
- 9:21Haunted antiques?
- 9:22I don't think so.
- 9:24Can we turn this into ghosts?
- 9:27He was an active community member and a friend to many, frequently sporting a jauntie hat,
- 9:33as well as a cigar and a smile.
- 9:36What is a jauntie hat?
- 9:37I think it just means like he just was like very casual about how he wore it.
- 9:42I'm not totally clear on that.
- 9:45A jauntie hat.
- 9:46Yes.
- 9:47I do have some pictures of him and I think it's an apt description, but I'm picturing
- 9:51one of the hats with like the helicopters on it.
- 9:53No.
- 9:54I'm stuck on his head just to twirl and I think maybe a skew is a good way to describe it,
- 10:00but I don't recall seeing a helicopter.
- 10:03That's just what I'm thinking in my mind.
- 10:05You know this little helicopter hat, you know what I'm talking about?
- 10:09Oh, I know what you're talking about.
- 10:10It's just a doesn't apply.
- 10:13By contrast, there's on the Eric at 41 years old, though he shared his father's occupation
- 10:19as an orchardist and the general good-naturedness of both of his parents, it seemed he was more
- 10:26reserved.
- 10:27I think that's why at least in part, so much of the focus on this family and Eric in particular
- 10:34has to do primarily with the strange circumstances surrounding his 2001 death rather than the beautiful
- 10:42tapestry of the lives that they all led.
- 10:47On 25th, 2001, Eric and his longtime friend Diana Anderson have been spending the evening
- 10:55together at his home, which happened to be located within a fairly isolated area of Hood
- 11:02River.
- 11:04Though the two had been very good friends for some time, they had met that evening with
- 11:08the intention of discussing their relationship as it seemed that they had developed romantic
- 11:13feelings for each other.
- 11:15Oh, they got a DTR.
- 11:19Wait, what's DTR?
- 11:20Define the relationship.
- 11:22Oh, duh.
- 11:24It looked to be the start of a new phase in life.
- 11:27One that might mean a serious relationship, though they considered that evening to be their
- 11:32first official date.
- 11:34Oh, yeah.
- 11:36Very sweet.
- 11:37Very sweet and awesome.
- 11:38At first.
- 11:40Well, at Eric's home that evening, the couple had heard tapping sounds outside and felt like
- 11:47the sounds were emanating from the area of the front door.
- 11:52Upon inspection after the doorbell rang, no one appeared to be outside.
- 11:58But there was reportedly a lone chuprint present somewhere outside.
- 12:05Okay.
- 12:06So tapping on the front door.
- 12:08Doorbell.
- 12:09Yeah, and then one chuprint.
- 12:11So someone's hopping around.
- 12:12Yeah.
- 12:13pogo sticking it.
- 12:16This was troubling to Diana as she drove home and has no doubt continued to puzzle her
- 12:22in the day's sense as the last person to see Eric alive.
- 12:27Oh, no.
- 12:29After he was murdered in his own home execution style, nearly a week went by before anyone
- 12:37was concerned about his absence, concerned enough that they actually went to check on him.
- 12:45And even what's her name Diana?
- 12:47Is that her name?
- 12:48Yeah, it's kind of unusual, I think, but I mean, yeah.
- 12:54What was normal for their relationship, but that seems like a while.
- 12:58There's a lot of discourse about that, to be honest.
- 13:01And I think just based on the fact that it was 2001, texting wasn't really as common.
- 13:08Yeah.
- 13:09So it's true.
- 13:10You might not hear from a friend for a week at a time and that probably wouldn't have
- 13:15been all that unusual.
- 13:17I think they just like DTR.
- 13:18Yeah.
- 13:19You think you would be like, you cited and want to see the person every day, but.
- 13:22Right.
- 13:23Or like, at least hear from them.
- 13:24Yeah.
- 13:25So you know that it didn't get weird.
- 13:26Right.
- 13:27Yeah.
- 13:28Yeah.
- 13:29Interesting.
- 13:30Like, who called you?
- 13:32Yeah.
- 13:33It's hard to be a woman.
- 13:35Sure is.
- 13:38On June 30, Don Dixon stopped by to check on him as no one in his life had heard from him
- 13:45recently.
- 13:47Conveniently, he had a key, reportedly to the back door.
- 13:52I'm not sure if this is something that's mentioned specifically because there were multiple
- 13:57different keys for entry to his home or if it's some sort of weird underhanded or almost
- 14:04Freudian way of insinuating something else.
- 14:08I'm not even sure what that would be exactly.
- 14:10It just feels.
- 14:13If I'm like, um, poking, I'm poking on that, I feel like he had the key to his back door.
- 14:20That kind of thing.
- 14:21I don't think so.
- 14:23I don't even know that that would be.
- 14:25No.
- 14:26It's just weird.
- 14:28And it's actually the whole thing about the key is just weird and maybe that's what I'm
- 14:34picking up.
- 14:35We're going to, we'll talk about the key.
- 14:37Okay.
- 14:38Yeah.
- 14:39It just feels like there's something there and.
- 14:41Yeah.
- 14:42I mean, I don't know how say I lived in has a different key for the back door.
- 14:46So I've not personally experienced that.
- 14:49Just because I just seemed odd.
- 14:52Does he only want hit like is that only giving him access to a certain part of the house?
- 14:57Like, what does that mean?
- 14:59Maybe they didn't use the front door.
- 15:01I, you know, so many questions, but obviously they someone, someone tried to do something to
- 15:08the front.
- 15:09They knocked.
- 15:10They bring the belt.
- 15:11I.
- 15:12So many questions.
- 15:14Yeah.
- 15:15It's interesting.
- 15:16Yeah.
- 15:17I don't know.
- 15:18Maybe that's not that weird.
- 15:20Seems weird.
- 15:21But like you bring that up and you think it's like really weird and I'm like, oh yeah, last
- 15:25house I lived in had a different key for the back door.
- 15:27Thanks a lot, asshole.
- 15:28Sorry.
- 15:29It's just my life experience.
- 15:31Yeah.
- 15:32Nope.
- 15:33I mean, it is, that is interesting because I feel like I thought that's odd.
- 15:38I don't think that's necessarily like a typical thing, but it certainly wasn't beyond
- 15:42the realm of possibility.
- 15:44I just was like, what does that mean?
- 15:46Yeah.
- 15:47Anyway.
- 15:48I don't know.
- 15:49Amongst other questions that can't be answered.
- 15:52Wait, I have one more question.
- 15:54What?
- 15:55What if it was just, it was just a key to the back door, you know that for sure?
- 15:59Or was it just like he just went in the back door?
- 16:01I don't even know.
- 16:02That's the thing.
- 16:03I'm like, what are they trying to say with this?
- 16:05Like, maybe because like, maybe there was a dead bolt on the back door.
- 16:14And he only had the key that like unlocked like the bottom lock.
- 16:18I don't know.
- 16:19Who knows, we get stuck on the weirdest shit, but we really, yeah.
- 16:24Trust me, I was real stuck on it and it's not even an interesting aspect of the case overall.
- 16:29Right.
- 16:30Can't choose when the hyper focus activates.
- 16:34Clearly.
- 16:35Right.
- 16:36Last time I learned a lot about heraldry.
- 16:38We have driven back.
- 16:42The nature of their relationship would be called into question later.
- 16:46And I can't help but think that the rumor mill might have gone into overdrive, which is
- 16:51actually the understatement of probably my week.
- 16:57Because remember what I was saying about rumors, right?
- 17:00tying our two episodes together.
- 17:03Yeah.
- 17:04Oh boy.
- 17:05Okay.
- 17:06Dixon readily identified an odor upon entering the home.
- 17:12And when he eventually discovered Eric's decomposing body, he quickly called 911.
- 17:20That wasn't the only call that was made.
- 17:26Though it's not entirely clear which call occurred first, either to 911 or the call I'm about
- 17:33to describe.
- 17:34I think 911 first.
- 17:36There's a lot of discrepancies or things that are unspecified.
- 17:43Eric's sister stated that in a phone conversation with Dawn at some point after he discovered her
- 17:49brother Eric's body in his home, Don told her that he did not see any exit wounds on
- 17:57Eric's body.
- 18:00You have the benefit of knowing that he was murdered in a style that is described as
- 18:07execution style.
- 18:10But she found this very odd because they didn't know he had been shot.
- 18:18Who didn't know?
- 18:19No one.
- 18:20Right.
- 18:21But no one knew he had been shot.
- 18:23But this guy goes in and saw his body.
- 18:25Right.
- 18:27And people that saw his body couldn't tell, could not tell.
- 18:32Interesting.
- 18:33Don claimed that he believed Eric had died by suicide, explaining that was why he mentioned
- 18:39potential exit wounds.
- 18:41Which is interesting because people can die by suicide other than shooting themselves.
- 18:48Yeah.
- 18:50It had not been apparent when his body was initially discovered that Eric had been killed
- 18:54by three gunshot wounds to the head.
- 18:58Law enforcement could not tell.
- 19:03Apparently both law enforcement and the man claiming to be a close friend of Eric, Don
- 19:08Dixon had no reason to suspect foul play.
- 19:13Hood County Sheriff Joe Wompler reportedly approached Don Dixon questioning whether there
- 19:18was a burn pile on the property.
- 19:21Oh, that is the correct response.
- 19:26It's never good.
- 19:27We also would have accepted what?
- 19:29What?
- 19:30Or, oh hell no.
- 19:32Yeah.
- 19:33I don't like to hear the word like murder and burn pile in the same situation.
- 19:39The same day.
- 19:40No.
- 19:41No.
- 19:42He intended to use the burn pet as a means of disposal for the mattress in order to spare
- 19:48Eric's family the grief of having to deal with it later.
- 19:52Not your job.
- 19:54Dixon was said to have agreed with this course of action at the time.
- 19:58Oh, but he did.
- 20:00Okay.
- 20:01In the many years since Eric's death, there have been a number of stories related about how
- 20:06exactly this unfolded.
- 20:08Some account state it was Don Dixon's idea to burn the mattress.
- 20:13It's important to note here that some source material states that the mattress alone was
- 20:17burned thereafter.
- 20:18While others stated it was both the bed and the linens.
- 20:24I do believe that this is clarified in statements made by the DA that I will share a bit
- 20:33later, assuming that you, you know, believe public statements made by the DA.
- 20:41Hmm.
- 20:42Certainly you wouldn't have any reason not to.
- 20:44I don't trust your face right now.
- 20:47Not a face to be trusted.
- 20:49It would be weird though to like burn the mattress and not the linens if your goal is to like
- 20:54get rid of it.
- 20:55So no one else has to take care of it.
- 20:57Yeah.
- 20:58And you don't think that death is suspicious at this point.
- 20:59So why would you keep the linens, right?
- 21:02What they insist.
- 21:04Hmm.
- 21:05I don't know.
- 21:06It's hard to say.
- 21:07I'd like to show me the linens.
- 21:08Where are the linens?
- 21:10Where are the linens?
- 21:12Though Dixon was certain that Eric was dead, he was quoted as saying of the discovery.
- 21:17It was like he was in bed sleeping and he was shot.
- 21:21There was no struggle.
- 21:23One of the sheriff's deputies who reported to the scene, detective Gary Tiffany stated,
- 21:29Gary, Jerry, not really sure.
- 21:32Don't really care.
- 21:33Sorry.
- 21:34Jerry or Gary?
- 21:36Somebody came in here for the sole purpose of killing Eric.
- 21:41They didn't steal anything.
- 21:42They didn't take anything.
- 21:44Heels were dundin' to say, but sorry.
- 21:48I feel like a dick.
- 21:49I don't know why.
- 21:51Jerry/Gary didn't really do anything wrong here so far as I can tell, but I'm just so fucking
- 21:56angry.
- 21:58If nothing was taken from the isolated home, it stood to reason that the primary motive for
- 22:04entering the home was likely the murder.
- 22:07The case took on a whole new dimension with the discovery of the gunshot wounds.
- 22:12It's remember they have no fucking idea this man was shot.
- 22:16And they've already found his mattress.
- 22:20But alas, what could have been critical forensic evidence in the case had already been lost
- 22:26forever.
- 22:28Because again, already burned it.
- 22:33How did they think he died?
- 22:34There's gotta be blood.
- 22:35He wasn't just, right?
- 22:37He had blood in his body.
- 22:40He did have blood in his body.
- 22:42I obviously, because you said the mattress and like, I imagine...
- 22:48I don't know how someone is shot in the head three times.
- 22:52And that's completely escaping.
- 22:57There's complete visual field.
- 23:01I have hurtive cases where they don't realize right away that the victim was shot.
- 23:06But like, obviously killed in a something happened, man, or...
- 23:12I just think we just have to treat all deaths as suspicious until proven otherwise.
- 23:17Right.
- 23:18Like the opposite of...
- 23:19Maybe wait for the autopsy.
- 23:20I don't know.
- 23:21Yeah.
- 23:22At least.
- 23:23It's a thought.
- 23:25It's just very weird to like walk in and be like, "Oh, he's dead.
- 23:29There's blood everywhere.
- 23:30Doesn't look that suspicious."
- 23:33I think if there had been blood everywhere.
- 23:35Doesn't sound like there was.
- 23:39Don't know how that's possible.
- 23:41I'm not sure.
- 23:43A lot of questions.
- 23:45That's the least of them.
- 23:48According to Eric's family, he lived a quiet life with no apparent enemies or conflicts.
- 23:56Three strong suspects in the case would emerge.
- 23:59So there is a fourth potential suspect that some have speculated about.
- 24:05In no particular order, the first will discuss is Eric Smith.
- 24:10It sounds like an alias, but it does infect his name.
- 24:14Allegedly.
- 24:16It actually is his name.
- 24:18Oh, okay.
- 24:19I'm just an asshole today.
- 24:22While Eric's family didn't believe there were any issues between him with anyone, Don
- 24:28Dixon shared a conversation that he had reportedly overheard between Eric and his business partner,
- 24:37also named Eric, which is unfortunate and confusing.
- 24:41The pair ran a small car sales company together.
- 24:45Eric T was our victim.
- 24:47Okay.
- 24:48We're going to use initials.
- 24:50Supposedly accused Eric Smith of embezzling money from their joint venture.
- 24:55With the tune of about $60,000.
- 25:02If there were any truth to this accusation made by Don Dixon, that could certainly go to
- 25:07motive for Eric Smith in the killing.
- 25:10Oh, wait, this was Don Dixon's in, Paul.
- 25:13Okay.
- 25:14Got you.
- 25:15I'm glad you're flagging that.
- 25:16I flagged it.
- 25:17I've put it in that.
- 25:18Yeah, that's right.
- 25:19Not just a hat, rag, my friend.
- 25:21However, it does not seem to have ever been substantiated.
- 25:27Each of the three suspects would eventually in turn take polygraph tests.
- 25:32While it cannot be said for all three suspects, Eric did pass.
- 25:36Good job, Eric Smith.
- 25:38Yeah.
- 25:39Also, I mean, first, so many.
- 25:45It was a long time ago, right?
- 25:47No, it was 2001.
- 25:482001.
- 25:49Well, it was kind of a long time ago.
- 25:51That was kind of 24 years ago.
- 25:54Yeah.
- 25:55It's basically like when I was born.
- 25:56Oh, yeah.
- 25:57Yeah.
- 25:58Yeah.
- 25:59Anyways, so he passed the polygraph for whatever that's worth.
- 26:03Eric Smith has always denied that there was any issue between them regarding their business
- 26:09or personal finances.
- 26:12And all ones ever pointed to anything that proves that there were any issues or financial
- 26:18misdeeds or business disagreements or even a stubbed toe.
- 26:27He said they were best friends and Eric T had even been the best man at his wedding.
- 26:32Aww.
- 26:33I mean, that doesn't necessarily mean you can't do something bad to your friend, but true.
- 26:39It's just if there's no evidence.
- 26:41Yeah.
- 26:42If that's the only evidence.
- 26:43I don't trust a polygraph, but knowing what I do for my research about the suspect pool,
- 26:48I just don't see Eric Smith as the most viable.
- 26:51Well, look at that.
- 26:53This fucking guy, Don Dixon, ever the helpful friend following his unfortunate discovery shared
- 26:59something else of interest regarding Eric's private life.
- 27:02But he thought might provide illumination in the case.
- 27:05Keep your mouth shut, Don.
- 27:07Yeah.
- 27:08Shut the fuck up, Don.
- 27:10We have feelings about Don.
- 27:12I don't even know why yet, but I just...
- 27:14But can you...
- 27:15Ready?
- 27:17Why are we talking so fucking much about Don?
- 27:20Yeah.
- 27:21With a fucking Don, even.
- 27:23He said that Eric had recently told him about a new relationship that he had struck up,
- 27:29supposedly with a Polynesian woman who happened to be married.
- 27:34Oh no.
- 27:35Well, look at that.
- 27:37This fucking guy, Don Dixon, ever the helpful friend following his unfortunate discovery shared
- 27:43something else of interest regarding Eric's private life.
- 27:46But he thought might provide illumination in the case.
- 27:50However, Hood River being such a small town with a total population of about 6,000 people
- 27:56at the time and the Polynesian population even smaller, some came to suspect this might
- 28:04have been none other than Sheriff Wompler's wife.
- 28:08Not the Sheriff's wife.
- 28:11Oh shit.
- 28:14If the Sheriff's wife had indeed been having an affair with Eric, which no one believes,
- 28:20or can substantiate in any way, except for Don, of course.
- 28:26Then perhaps the Sheriff had a motive to murder Eric.
- 28:30That pains his decision to burn potential evidence in the case in a very different light.
- 28:36Which...
- 28:37Is fair?
- 28:38It is weird.
- 28:40That being said, it does not appear that this theory has ever come even remotely close to
- 28:46being substantiated.
- 28:50See what I did there?
- 28:51How I said, you could see...
- 28:54You could see it in my eyes.
- 28:56I'm trying to force out like the nice way to say...
- 29:01Yeah.
- 29:02Sheriff Wompler also passed the polygraph test that he was administered.
- 29:07Okay.
- 29:08It's weird.
- 29:09Didn't I say that three people took polygraph tests and two of them passed?
- 29:13Hmm.
- 29:14Who failed?
- 29:15This seems like a door of the Explorer episode, like...
- 29:20Don Dixon sure had a lot of theories about who might have had a motive for killing Eric.
- 29:26Was he just a trusted friend trying to help investigators?
- 29:31Or was he a cold blooded killer trying to cast his vision on anyone and everyone else
- 29:36to save his own skin?
- 29:38Sounds like that's the one, that last one you said.
- 29:42You'll recall the unusual statement that Don Dixon made to Eric's sister when he called
- 29:46to inform her of Eric's death.
- 29:49At that point, it had not been discovered that Eric had died as a result of three.
- 29:54Again, yet is undiscovered, gunshot wounds to the head.
- 29:59Strangely though, he told her that there were no exit wounds.
- 30:03Maybe he meant something else.
- 30:05What else could you mean?
- 30:07Right, exactly.
- 30:08I was speaking to the house.
- 30:10Like no one broke it.
- 30:11I don't see any broken windows for someone to get out.
- 30:15We don't actually put all those exit wounds.
- 30:17We don't call those exit wounds.
- 30:18No.
- 30:19So the house.
- 30:20I was being facetious, but I really enjoyed that you played that up with me.
- 30:22Thank you.
- 30:23That was fun.
- 30:24That was fun for us.
- 30:26Maybe he really was aware of a secret battle that Eric had been fighting with depression.
- 30:32And that's why he believed that Eric had died by suicide.
- 30:35It's totally reasonable.
- 30:37Yeah.
- 30:38Right.
- 30:39I mean, it happens.
- 30:40It sure does.
- 30:42But then again, though Dixon had claimed that they were very close, other family members
- 30:50and friends of Eric claimed that that was not the case.
- 30:55Some of them didn't even know who he was until after Eric's death.
- 30:59Don Dixon.
- 31:00Who does Don Dixon?
- 31:02New number.
- 31:03Who died?
- 31:04Don Dixon was also the one to discover Eric, dead in his home, which was only possible
- 31:10as he'd entered the home using a key, which people didn't know he had, or that he existed.
- 31:18It's not necessarily a crime to make someone out to have been a closer friend than they really
- 31:24were, but does seem a little suspicious.
- 31:27Starting to think, did he ever produce this key?
- 31:30Well, he would have, I mean, to get into the house he would have had to have had the key.
- 31:34Once he picked the lock.
- 31:35I don't know.
- 31:36Like, did he ever give the key to the evidence collectors?
- 31:43We're doing great.
- 31:44The police.
- 31:45The investigators.
- 31:46Yeah.
- 31:47Did the investigators like ask him, like, "Hey, show me this key that you used."
- 31:51I don't know.
- 31:52It's unclear that that was ever like fact-checked, substantiated.
- 31:57Or he found like the high to key or something.
- 32:01I don't know.
- 32:02I'm starting to feel what you're feeling.
- 32:04Yeah.
- 32:05A lot of questions.
- 32:06Yeah.
- 32:07Okay.
- 32:08Don Dixon's test results from an independently administered polygraph were inconclusive.
- 32:14According to the Sheriff's Department, they couldn't even establish a baseline, which
- 32:19is not great.
- 32:22Yeah, so like a...
- 32:24I read like somebody who might be trying to obfuscate the test, but I've never seen...
- 32:30Oh, God, what is the name of that movie?
- 32:32I'm just asking questions.
- 32:34Hmm.
- 32:35I don't know.
- 32:36Sounds like something you say a lot though.
- 32:39Chris and I say that to each other all the time because it's this movie.
- 32:43Oh, my God.
- 32:44I'm going to have to pull up a clip.
- 32:45Okay.
- 32:46I forget what it's called, but she's a really funny actress and comedian.
- 32:50And she's playing like this super tropey, like Fox News, fucking type of character.
- 32:57And she'll do...
- 32:58She'll like ask these questions that are like so clearly inflammatory or like just ridiculous.
- 33:05And then she'll be like, I'm just asking questions.
- 33:08Right.
- 33:09It's so good.
- 33:10It's so good.
- 33:11It's so good.
- 33:12Oh.
- 33:13With as much confounding evidence or perhaps more accurately lack thereof and conflicting
- 33:20statements being made as rumors world, it's no wonder that the case garnered some intense
- 33:28interest both from the public and also some pretty serious media attention.
- 33:34The case was featured on unsolved mysteries after crime victim advocate Jackie Hansen helped
- 33:41the family draft letters requesting the show's assistance by spotlighting the case.
- 33:46Holy guacamole.
- 33:48That's right.
- 33:49That's really cool.
- 33:51I might have seen this.
- 33:52Good.
- 33:53You know the funny thing is this was I was so fucking mad and Chris got involved and then
- 34:01he was like, I'm fucking mad.
- 34:05What?
- 34:06So there's like eight thousand episodes, not literally, but there's a lot.
- 34:13You know which one you can't, you can't watch anymore just ceases to exist on God's greener
- 34:20than the internet.
- 34:21This one.
- 34:22Mm-hmm.
- 34:23They link to it.
- 34:24You know what comes up?
- 34:26Totally different fucking episode.
- 34:28What?
- 34:29We both tried it from multiple devices multiple different times.
- 34:35They link the wrong apps.
- 34:36Oh, good.
- 34:37There's no way to just like search the name and unsolved mysteries and have it
- 34:43tell you what episode it is.
- 34:45Oh my god.
- 34:46Why didn't I think of that?
- 34:47No, I'm saying I literally went to the unsolved mysteries catalog.
- 34:53Multiple different catalogs in fact with the episode number and the episode that shows
- 34:59up the one that's there.
- 35:01It's not the right one.
- 35:03Oh no.
- 35:04It has this name in the episode description.
- 35:07Oh, that's odd.
- 35:09If anybody finds it, I'd be.
- 35:11I'm sure like to watch it.
- 35:13Can you write like write them an email?
- 35:15Yeah.
- 35:16Everyone email unsolved mysteries.
- 35:19Where is this episode?
- 35:22The Hood River district attorney made statements that he was pleased that the case would
- 35:27receive high profile exposure.
- 35:29Because what the fuck else do you say?
- 35:32You sure about that?
- 35:33Yeah.
- 35:34Sure about that.
- 35:35They're going to see all your fuck ups.
- 35:37Yeah.
- 35:38And technically he hadn't fucked up yet.
- 35:43He just gets to be the public face of the botched investigation.
- 35:46Right.
- 35:47Exactly.
- 35:48Like you were taking, you're the face.
- 35:50You're responsible.
- 35:51Yeah.
- 35:53In most jurisdictions, DA and Sheriff are elected positions.
- 36:01So it's not a great look.
- 36:04Yeah.
- 36:05Let's talk about the fourth suspect.
- 36:07Oh, yeah.
- 36:08Yeah.
- 36:09OK.
- 36:10Who seems far less frequently discussed?
- 36:12Which actually makes him more interesting.
- 36:15Hmm.
- 36:16Through the course of the investigation, it came to light that Diana Anderson had an ex-boyfriend
- 36:22with a history of stalking behavior.
- 36:25She was the last person to have seen Erica live.
- 36:28And though obviously she was cleared of any involvement, she was at his home late into
- 36:32the night when they heard some odd noises.
- 36:37They even believed her and Eric that night thought somebody.
- 36:43It seems like somebody is trying to mess with us.
- 36:45Yeah.
- 36:46I mean, it seems like if someone's clearly tapping on the door, ringing the bell, like that's
- 36:49not just a branch, you know?
- 36:51Yep.
- 36:52Is it possible that a jealous, perhaps even deeply disturbed ex-boyfriend, might have decided
- 36:58to take out a romantic rival?
- 37:00I mean, sure.
- 37:01Almost anything seems plausible at this point, really.
- 37:04He told me aliens did it.
- 37:06I'd say they don't have enough evidence to prove that they didn't.
- 37:09I mean, he could have just been there stalking them and then someone else came and murdered
- 37:15that Eric later.
- 37:17I mean, super unlucky.
- 37:19Yeah.
- 37:21It would make more sense for that type of person to be ringing the bell and disappearing
- 37:26in an attempt to disrupt their evening that night than a typical teenage prankster,
- 37:31just given the remoteness of the home.
- 37:33Because I don't think that Ding Dong ditching when your neighbor lives like a mile down the
- 37:40road is kind of a weird choice, but I guess not a lot to do in a small town.
- 37:48There's not very much information available pertaining to this theory.
- 37:52If one enforcement has looked into this as you would hope, they've kept that information
- 37:57close.
- 38:00I'm not even sure that we know the name of the ex-boyfriend.
- 38:04Oh wow.
- 38:05Like the public.
- 38:06I'm sure the police do.
- 38:07Right.
- 38:08Maybe.
- 38:09Who knows?
- 38:10It's hard to say what they know and don't know at this point.
- 38:12Oh, God.
- 38:13Initially, Tamiyasu family offered up a $5,000 reward for information in the case, eventually
- 38:20upping it to $10,000, but still the case has remained unsolved.
- 38:27Given that fact, it can come as no surprise that the Tamiyasu family has been vocal about
- 38:32their frustration of how the case was handled from the very beginning.
- 38:38After learning that the bed where her brother, Eric, died, had been burned, Ramona questioned
- 38:43what she felt was a hasty move, very possibly resulting in important clues literally going
- 38:52up in flames.
- 38:55The DA has stated confidently that the crime scene was processed correctly enough—exquise
- 39:04me—correctly enough for a case to stand up in court.
- 39:10Despite the loss of potential evidence and the delays in processing that Sheriff Wompler
- 39:16pointed to budget cuts to explain, only the delays in processing forensic evidence.
- 39:23The budget cuts weren't responsible for the burning of the mattress.
- 39:27I can't believe that they said enough.
- 39:31Correctly enough.
- 39:32That's what I want.
- 39:34If my family member is murdered, if I'm murdered—correctly enough to do.
- 39:39I can go to court.
- 39:41Do we have enough evidence to do anything?
- 39:46Maybe.
- 39:47I just—yeah.
- 39:49These are things that men said out loud to other people.
- 39:55I also had a thought too, like what if he had had like hidden money in his mattress or
- 40:01like family heirlooms because I don't know, people do that.
- 40:04Yeah.
- 40:05That's not your property to be destroying.
- 40:08Hold that thought.
- 40:09Okay.
- 40:10Furthermore, Suol, who is—that's the name of the DA, Suol.
- 40:15That's his last name.
- 40:16Suol.
- 40:17Okay.
- 40:18The DA stated that all forensic evidence was gathered, including the bedding prior to
- 40:24the mattress itself being burned, despite the fact that given the condition of the body
- 40:29law enforcement would not be aware Eric had been shot until roughly a day and a half later,
- 40:33it's like they collected all of the evidence.
- 40:39Except the mattress.
- 40:40Why would they— technically they did collect it.
- 40:43Okay.
- 40:44They just incinerated it after they collected it.
- 40:47Or they were saying that it was nothing suspicious, so why were they collecting evidence even if
- 40:52they didn't think anything was suspicious?
- 40:54Because it's death.
- 40:55Okay.
- 40:56And they do that, but they don't.
- 40:57Because you're supposed to presume until—
- 41:00It's like they did, but they didn't, but they didn't.
- 41:05Yeah.
- 41:06Quite literally.
- 41:12It's unclear what, if any, professional repercussions, Sheriff Wompler faced related to mistakes made in
- 41:18the case, though he did express his regrets repeatedly.
- 41:25Ramona filed complaints regarding the destruction of private property and the Sheriff's office paid
- 41:32for a replacement bed.
- 41:36Wompler stating, "I take full responsibility for getting rid of the mattress, and it is a
- 41:40practice this office will not do again."
- 41:46Alternately he was quoted as saying, "I probably wouldn't do that again."
- 41:50I'm like, "Wait.
- 41:53You just said we won't do it again."
- 41:55Is this the same guy who said good enough?
- 41:58No.
- 41:59Oh, different guy.
- 42:00That's still.
- 42:01Yeah.
- 42:02But still, like, why are these people just like, like, non-challantly talking about this?
- 42:06Yeah.
- 42:07They probably wouldn't do that again.
- 42:09It's good enough.
- 42:10Yeah.
- 42:11I mean, to be fair, sometimes he says, "I take full responsibility and it is a practice
- 42:17this office will not do again."
- 42:19Okay.
- 42:20Unless he says the other thing where he's like, "Probably wouldn't maybe, props us.
- 42:25Props us."
- 42:26Additionally, as you might imagine, the rumors that hit his world about an affair took
- 42:31a toll on his personal relationships as well.
- 42:35How could it not?
- 42:37The complar was also quoted as saying, "The last rumor has been the hardest because it
- 42:41has caused embarrassment and hurt for my wife when she has done nothing to deserve those
- 42:48aspersions."
- 42:49Which, fair, detective, Gary, Jerry, Tiffany, detective, Jerry, Tiffany, sorry, Jerry, and
- 42:58DA Soule have independently stated that most of the rumors surrounding the case can be
- 43:04traced back to, I guess, Don Dixie.
- 43:11Himself a person of interest in the case, somewhere in the course of the investigation,
- 43:17as too often happens, the story has become honestly more about opposing suspects in the case
- 43:25than about the actual victim.
- 43:28It's far too easy a trap to set and snap.
- 43:32Maybe while Alice mere mortals are left chasing her tails, just gonna throw this out there.
- 43:38Okay, picture it.
- 43:39Eric's spirit is perched up on a beautiful tree, enjoying the fruits of generations of the
- 43:45family's labor.
- 43:47What began as a strawberry and asparagus farm eventually became an orchard.
- 43:53The first fruit trees planted by Eric's grandfather in the 1930s.
- 43:58The orchard is now run by Eric's sister Ramona and her husband.
- 44:05This case fucking sucks.
- 44:07But I'm just gonna say the cheesy thing that I put in my notes.
- 44:11Maybe there's still room for growth if we learn at least one thing from this story.
- 44:17Not to burn the mattress.
- 44:18Jesus Christ.
- 44:19Don't burn the fucking mattress.
- 44:21Leave it alone.
- 44:22But even then, would they have cared enough to even solve it if there were evidence in the
- 44:30mattress or whatever?
- 44:32I mean, it didn't seem like they cared a whole lot.
- 44:35I mean, I think the problem is that beyond the mattress, there wasn't a lot that they could
- 44:44point to in terms of forensic evidence and a lot of...
- 44:49There was just so much finger pointing.
- 44:52You know, and I think whoever did this did a good enough job of not leaving enough of
- 45:04a trail and then the focus just went to trying to identify who the best suspect was.
- 45:13And there's just...
- 45:15Who knows?
- 45:18I mean, I feel like there's more than one fairly reasonable theory, but I don't know
- 45:28if we'll ever know.
- 45:30And maybe the mattress didn't have any real probative value.
- 45:37I don't know.
- 45:38That's a point.
- 45:40Yeah, we don't know.
- 45:41We don't know.
- 45:42It's just...
- 45:43Let's just all not burn anything from what I'm seeing.
- 45:46Yeah.
- 45:47Just in case.
- 45:48Yep.
- 45:49Let's do better than good enough.
- 45:53Look at that.
- 45:54We learned one thing.
- 45:55We did.
- 45:56We did learn.
- 45:57We learned a lot of things from you, but I feel like that's one of the most important.
- 46:03Yeah.
- 46:04I just...
- 46:05It's so infuriating.
- 46:06That and don't trust anyone named Don Dixon.
- 46:09I felt like that without saying, "Did you need me to say that?"
- 46:14Well, I don't know.
- 46:15Should we do some tarot?
- 46:17Yeah, let's do some tarot.
- 46:18Okay.
- 46:19I really want to go to an orchard.
- 46:21I know.
- 46:22Just like hang out.
- 46:23I feel like if we can do a trip out this way, it's not that far of a drive for us someday.
- 46:29Do we go find a orchard?
- 46:30Do we look orchard?
- 46:31Oh, yeah.
- 46:32And they still...
- 46:33I have a little bit of information about the families, orchards and stuff.
- 46:40So I don't know.
- 46:41We have a couple of Patreon mini-sodes to get through, but I don't know.
- 46:46I feel like it would be fun to just kind of...
- 46:48I want to tell you more things.
- 46:50Okay.
- 46:51Yeah.
- 46:52So hopefully we can knock that bad boy out.
- 46:55We'll do that someday.
- 46:56Yeah.
- 46:57Maybe we do some things that we say we're going to do.
- 47:00All right.
- 47:01Let's do it.
- 47:02Okay.
- 47:03Let's do tarot.
- 47:04Okay.
- 47:05Wait.
- 47:06Before we do tarot, you got to open your little gifty.
- 47:13I just wanted to start by saying that we realized this episode was coming out Valentine's
- 47:18week.
- 47:19Yeah.
- 47:20Happy V-Day.
- 47:21Yes.
- 47:22Sad.
- 47:23Very sad.
- 47:24I know.
- 47:25What a topic to have chosen.
- 47:27But it kind of fit because we talked about the beginning how they were DTR-ing, you know,
- 47:33defining the relationship.
- 47:35True.
- 47:36Yeah.
- 47:37I thought there was a connection there, but since it was so sad, I just wanted to make us feel
- 47:42a little better, make Killing feel a little better because she brings us sad topics and she
- 47:47knows you do all the research and you see, we talked about it before you filter for us
- 47:52and you see like the worst of the worst.
- 47:54I want to make you feel better.
- 47:56And thank you for torturing us every other week-ish.
- 47:59You're welcome.
- 48:01Shall we cheer?
- 48:02Yeah.
- 48:03Let's cheer and open your little gifty.
- 48:04I got you.
- 48:05Okay.
- 48:06Okay.
- 48:07Torturing her because she's like unbelievably afraid to have something happen with these
- 48:14glasses or the electronics from the liquid in the glasses.
- 48:18So I'm famously not good with the long stem.
- 48:22I'm shaking.
- 48:23Actually did have a cortado today.
- 48:27So oh.
- 48:29And you have my last time, yeah.
- 48:32I had one yesterday.
- 48:33Oh, they're so good.
- 48:34They're really good.
- 48:35I heard the brown sugar.
- 48:36Oh, no, one.
- 48:37Oh, I think I just got a plane.
- 48:40I think I might have just gotten a plane one.
- 48:43I'm out of plane.
- 48:44She good.
- 48:45But the brown sugar.
- 48:46Okay.
- 48:47Okay.
- 48:48I'm going to have to try that.
- 48:49And our wine is like an orange wine.
- 48:51Oh, anyway.
- 48:52Open your present.
- 48:53Oh, right.
- 48:54Okay.
- 48:55Okay.
- 48:56Oh.
- 48:57This is how you know someone loves you.
- 49:03Seriously.
- 49:04Whenever Chris brings these home, I'm like, fuck yeah, I'm married that man.
- 49:11Fuck yeah.
- 49:12Fuck yeah.
- 49:13Okay.
- 49:14They're Valentine nerd clusters.
- 49:17Nerds for a nerd.
- 49:18Am I right?
- 49:19So I knew those would make you feel better.
- 49:22Oh, my gosh.
- 49:23Okay.
- 49:24Well, we have to get through this year.
- 49:25Oh, reading because I got to go eat a case of dillar.
- 49:28And now, like what is today?
- 49:32I don't know.
- 49:33Just food being put in front of me right before a microphone.
- 49:40Maybe we should start a mukbang.
- 49:42Okay.
- 49:45No comments.
- 49:47That would have to definitely be charged for.
- 49:49Oh, yeah.
- 49:50No, that's not free.
- 49:51That's paid a play.
- 49:52My dude.
- 49:53Okay.
- 49:54All right.
- 49:55Ooh, she purred it.
- 49:59Okay.
- 50:00So I'll flip it right side up just so that everybody can see it.
- 50:04Oh, the moon.
- 50:05Right in front of my face.
- 50:07Did you kiss it?
- 50:09I feel like I made kind of a duck sound as I was doing the, because if you can't see it,
- 50:14it's a duck on the card.
- 50:15I realize recently we've been kind of bad about describing what we're doing.
- 50:19Do you want me to set it?
- 50:20Oh, sure.
- 50:22We've been kind of bad about describing what we're doing because we are on video now.
- 50:26So it's like, we can see it.
- 50:27And then we kind of forget other people can't.
- 50:30Yeah, we forgot where we came from.
- 50:33You know, it's an audio medium.
- 50:36You said reverse, right?
- 50:37Yes.
- 50:38Okay.
- 50:39I feel like everything is in reverse for me.
- 50:42My brain is still not really braining.
- 50:48I have a fun little story of what we did last night.
- 50:52And in hindsight, considering how much my brain was just not braining, it's a little
- 50:58bit scary that I did it.
- 51:00Okay.
- 51:01Wow.
- 51:02Okay.
- 51:03I tried turning to page 18 because it's the 18th card.
- 51:09And I was like, what the shit?
- 51:12That's not the right page.
- 51:14Okay.
- 51:15Now we're on the right page.
- 51:17Okay.
- 51:18All right.
- 51:19Well, here we go.
- 51:20Yeah.
- 51:21No, I'm telling you, my brain is really having a tough time.
- 51:24Minus, too.
- 51:25Yeah.
- 51:26I'll explain later.
- 51:27All right.
- 51:28Keywords for the moon.
- 51:29The moon.
- 51:30The moon.
- 51:31Intuition, the unconscious mystery, illusion and secrets.
- 51:37Well, there was certainly a lot of that happening in this story.
- 51:41Yeah.
- 51:42Okay.
- 51:43I am going to kind of skip through.
- 51:46I know we've read a lot about the, in this first section of our interpretation book,
- 51:53it usually talks a lot about the writer, Wait Smith.
- 51:56When we've read this card several times, I'm going to skip it because it does, I don't
- 52:01think it really applies.
- 52:02We're using a non-traditional deck.
- 52:05So I'm going to get into the tail end here and then we'll read the interpretation.
- 52:09Unless something like really specific jumps out like about the imagery, then we don't
- 52:14really need to like read the description of the card.
- 52:16Yeah.
- 52:17Sometimes it does though.
- 52:18Yeah.
- 52:19Trying to pick and choose a little bit.
- 52:21And this is our P&W deck.
- 52:23So it's, you know, I'll look up what kind of duck it is afterwards.
- 52:26Yes.
- 52:27Way most.
- 52:29The water suggests the moon's link with the emotions and the unconscious realm.
- 52:35The moon urges you to pay more attention to your inner self, your lunar self.
- 52:43The light of the sun enables us to see the world around us.
- 52:47But the moon allows us to illuminate what springs naturally from inside us.
- 52:54Okay.
- 52:57There's some extra excerpts in here.
- 52:58So we'll decide if we want to read those or not.
- 53:01I think it's kind of funny that the moon is like emotions and feelings and then you put
- 53:05the sign out.
- 53:06This is ask me about my feelings and we literally got like the feelings card.
- 53:10Well, and as you were showing me the different options for the sign, I read it as don't ask
- 53:17me about my feelings, which is sounds like it.
- 53:22Well, it's like that thing where if letters are reversed in a word, your brain will still
- 53:28fill in and you can read things oftentimes that are misspelled.
- 53:33If it's like close enough, that's what my brain did.
- 53:36It was like close enough.
- 53:40The moon card is sometimes linked with deceit and self deception, disappointment and undoing.
- 53:48Usually because you weren't listening to that still small voice within.
- 53:53When this card appears reversed, it may advise you to tie up loose ends connected to the past,
- 53:58especially to your mother or other women.
- 54:02Oh, that's interesting.
- 54:04Yeah, very interesting.
- 54:05The first part of that though, like tying ends from your past reminds me you said that she
- 54:09had a boyfriend that was like possibly stalking them.
- 54:12Yeah, yeah, the ex boyfriend.
- 54:13Yeah, I definitely, that's kind of the energy that I was picking up as well.
- 54:19And like, we don't know when it happened.
- 54:22Or maybe we do.
- 54:23What?
- 54:24I just assumed it happened like at night time.
- 54:26Oh, yes.
- 54:27No, it was night time.
- 54:28Yeah.
- 54:29We got the moon.
- 54:30Yeah.
- 54:31The moon.
- 54:32In a reading about money, you may feel incapable of handling a financial matter.
- 54:38It's because you can't see what's really going on or you're too emotionally involved in
- 54:43this situation to be objective.
- 54:47This isn't the best time to make a major decision.
- 54:50Ups and downs are likely now.
- 54:52Try not to let them throw you into a panic.
- 54:55Hmm.
- 54:56Hmm.
- 54:57This card can also indicate buying stuff as a way to pinch hit or genuine emotion or happiness.
- 55:04It's interesting.
- 55:06Okay.
- 55:07If the reading is about your job, a secret or hidden situation may come to light.
- 55:14Interesting.
- 55:15Oh, the scandal.
- 55:19Yes.
- 55:20The scandal alleged.
- 55:21Yes.
- 55:22One of the many alleged scandals.
- 55:24Yes.
- 55:25This card can also point to an emotional, uncertain, changing work environment where nothing
- 55:31is clear.
- 55:32Perhaps you've let the pressures of the outside world throw you off balance and you feel disconnected
- 55:38from your true self.
- 55:40That kind of reminds me of like letting Don Dixon convince you to burn a mattress.
- 55:45Oh, that is a really good point.
- 55:50My head didn't really go there, but I feel like that fits.
- 55:55That's interesting.
- 55:57In a reading about love, you've probably deluded yourself about a partner or relationship.
- 56:02Okay.
- 56:03I'm getting next boyfriend vibes again.
- 56:05Or you may be attempting to cast yourself in an unreal light in order to win someone's
- 56:11affection.
- 56:13Things are not what they seem.
- 56:15Deceit, manipulation or inconsistency may cause problems.
- 56:19Hmm.
- 56:20That's interesting.
- 56:21Like all of Don's stories and how.
- 56:23Deceit, manipulation.
- 56:24Yeah.
- 56:25Yeah.
- 56:26Cause there's no problems.
- 56:27I mean, he certainly has not been charged with a crime in relation to Eric's death, but
- 56:34so much of what he said that kind of had investigators looking at, oh, is this a possible
- 56:40motive?
- 56:41Is this a possible suspect?
- 56:43None of that could be verified.
- 56:45Yeah.
- 56:46It just seemed like a very manipulative.
- 56:48Mm-hmm.
- 56:49I mean, maybe it's a coincidence, but.
- 56:53Yes.
- 56:54There is an extra excerpt.
- 56:57I don't feel as though it has a tie in and there are two other ones that I want to skim through
- 57:02to see if there's something we should read.
- 57:05But this extra excerpt at the end of the reverse interpretation is the triple goddess.
- 57:13And remember, there's kind of, I would say, like the long, held, potential suspects.
- 57:20There's three of them.
- 57:21Oh.
- 57:22I don't know.
- 57:23They're not goddesses, though.
- 57:24No, certainly not.
- 57:26Oh, it's a Pacific loon.
- 57:30Oh, okay.
- 57:32Duck loons.
- 57:33I mean, that makes sense for like nighttime because aren't loons, nighttime ducks.
- 57:40Nighttime ducks.
- 57:41Loons.
- 57:42Let's just say it in loons.
- 57:43Nighttime ducks.
- 57:44Night.
- 57:45And.
- 57:46Oh.
- 57:47I thought.
- 57:48Loons sound like that.
- 57:49Oh.
- 57:50Do they?
- 57:51I mean, they make like a crying sound, like a moaning cry.
- 57:57I did not know this.
- 57:58We should look up the sound of a loon.
- 58:00Oh.
- 58:01Okay, there is, I'll read this when looking for adventure in a dark and deserted landscape.
- 58:12Okay.
- 58:13I realize as I'm saying it out loud, that feels a little connected.
- 58:19Dark.
- 58:20But it's, I wouldn't say deserted more rural, rural, rural.
- 58:25We should only ask for the light of the moon.
- 58:29Then our imaginations can create more exotic explanations for the rustling in the undergrowth
- 58:36or the dark parentheses, bottomless question mark voids, which open up ahead of us.
- 58:43Ooh.
- 58:44Okay.
- 58:45It just reminds me of whoever was like speaking out.
- 58:48Yeah.
- 58:49Like around the house and they like from that footprint, right?
- 58:53Yes.
- 58:54The one foot.
- 58:55The one foot.
- 58:56We comfort ourselves too much with light.
- 58:59Sometimes we must wander in the dark so that our other senses can find their full expression.
- 59:06And we hear more clearly the message of the night, the wilderness and the strange creatures
- 59:12that inhabit the unseen spaces.
- 59:15Wow.
- 59:16Like a loon.
- 59:17Like a loon.
- 59:18They just get almost like when they're putting together like these special tarot decks, like
- 59:23they really put a lot of thought into like what animal goes on it.
- 59:27Because they get a lot of them completely so connected with even though it's not a traditional
- 59:32imagery on the deck, like just the word A is so connected with whatever animal.
- 59:37I can cut.
- 59:38Which it's, I like that.
- 59:39I love that.
- 59:40Yeah.
- 59:41Someone get my modicle.
- 59:42Oh, this is interesting.
- 59:45Most of the keywords are the same, but there's one in here that says vagueness and misconceptions.
- 59:50Okay.
- 59:51Instability, anxiety and security.
- 59:54Yeah.
- 59:55I mean, those all make sense.
- 59:57Yeah, totally.
- 59:58I don't know.
- 59:59I think sometimes it's like we will look at a glance at the keywords and say, oh, you know,
- 1:00:04they're basically the same or whatever.
- 1:00:07But I think sometimes words that are synonymous, they're not exactly the same.
- 1:00:14They have kind of different connotations.
- 1:00:15I feel like I'm always glad when we kind of read through and find something that maybe
- 1:00:21it expands a little bit.
- 1:00:22Yeah.
- 1:00:23I don't think your vagueness was like, no, it just reminded me of like, oh, good enough.
- 1:00:31Well, and they feel like there's something about like where it's talking about sort of mystery
- 1:00:36and darkness that implies sort of like a murky or, you know, vagueness.
- 1:00:43But yeah, just really screamed like just, yeah, we did a good enough job collecting the evidence.
- 1:00:50That was what they said, right?
- 1:00:51Yep.
- 1:00:52Yep.
- 1:00:53Yeah.
- 1:00:54Yeah.
- 1:00:55I'm hard to forget that, turn of frames.
- 1:00:56Okay.
- 1:00:57This is very short.
- 1:00:58Okay.
- 1:00:59It's breeding season.
- 1:01:00And the moon lays her two eggs, two gray, green, speckled orbs, each a perfect image of
- 1:01:07the other.
- 1:01:09Her nest floats upon the mirror of the lake.
- 1:01:11Oh, they're nest float.
- 1:01:14That is, that's like, I was starting to think about that.
- 1:01:17That's why I got thrown off.
- 1:01:18That's very interesting.
- 1:01:20Okay.
- 1:01:21Her nest floats upon the mirror of the lake, a surface identical in color to the night sky.
- 1:01:27That's pretty cool.
- 1:01:28Yeah.
- 1:01:29Looking deeper, dipping her head below and then back above, then below again, the moon
- 1:01:35dies into the gray, green glow of the moon reflected.
- 1:01:41The gray, green, green, the light.
- 1:01:42I can't even say it again.
- 1:01:45No, never again.
- 1:01:48She resurfaces with her catch and floats on the veil midway between two luminous speckled
- 1:01:53orbs, each the perfect image of the other.
- 1:01:57Hmm.
- 1:01:58You know what that makes me think of?
- 1:02:02I mean, it's a little bit, it kind of is, I don't know, it's all interpretation.
- 1:02:07So I guess, take it for what it is.
- 1:02:09But that kind of makes me think of, like, these are two, like, really good friends, right,
- 1:02:15that have sort of, like, just, I don't know, in a weird way, it just reminds me of, like,
- 1:02:21sort of their bond and how it started off as, you know, a friendship and now it's like,
- 1:02:27become more romantic.
- 1:02:28I don't know.
- 1:02:31That makes any sense.
- 1:02:32Or kind of, it made me kind of also think of, like, his family that had, like, the farm
- 1:02:38and, yeah, you talked about his family, right?
- 1:02:42Yeah.
- 1:02:43I don't know why, just like the mother with her eggs and, like, I don't know.
- 1:02:47There's definitely really strong feminine energy that it seems like plays into this card
- 1:02:55and into the reading.
- 1:02:57So that's interesting.
- 1:02:58The moon, yes, very feminine.
- 1:02:59It makes sense because there were multiple women that were involved, even just tangentially,
- 1:03:06because I was going to say part of the interpretation also reminded me of, like, speaking of shit
- 1:03:12that Dawn said that may or may not be true.
- 1:03:15Like, think about the sheriff's wife.
- 1:03:17It's like, I mean, yeah, I would reverse a small place.
- 1:03:21I'm sure she had met Eric, but like, wow, to just have this rumor start.
- 1:03:27That was, you know, one thing that the sheriff said, like, yeah, that was kind of the, one
- 1:03:32of the difficult aspects of, and like, the most difficult of the rumors for him to kind
- 1:03:38of, like, process and deal with.
- 1:03:40Because it's like, well, yeah, I mean, if she wasn't doing anything, you know, nefarious,
- 1:03:48then, you know, it's just, that shitty.
- 1:03:50You're just drawn into this?
- 1:03:52And it's, I don't know.
- 1:03:54It goes back to what I was saying about, like, this is a personal tragedy, you know, that
- 1:03:59Eric has passed and for his family.
- 1:04:02And then to have that sort of just become about these other characters that, like, maybe
- 1:04:07didn't, you know, like small town, but like, she, I'm sure she knew him, but maybe not
- 1:04:12even that well.
- 1:04:13Yeah.
- 1:04:14And suddenly we're talking about her.
- 1:04:15Like, yeah, not, not any fault of her own that, you know, that we know of, but, you
- 1:04:22know, yeah.
- 1:04:23Yeah, probably not.
- 1:04:24Like, oh, wow.
- 1:04:25Well, that was cool.
- 1:04:29Yeah.
- 1:04:30I really like to that it's like Hood River, and then we got like a water card.
- 1:04:35Yeah.
- 1:04:36Should we do that thing?
- 1:04:37Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:04:38We hope everyone has like a really good Valentine's Day.
- 1:04:41Obviously, whether you celebrate or not, you can have a gallon times.
- 1:04:44You could just, I was just going to say, Valentine's, Galantines, nothing at all.
- 1:04:50Valentine's Day.
- 1:04:54Yeah.
- 1:04:55Actually, creepy Valentine's Day.
- 1:04:58Yeah, maybe don't.
- 1:04:59Be safe.
- 1:05:00Yeah.
- 1:05:01Give your friends your location if you're going on a date.
- 1:05:03Just, yeah.
- 1:05:04I don't care how long you've known them.
- 1:05:05If you're married, I don't care.
- 1:05:07Give your friends your fucking location because like, the husband probably didn't.
